Fox Sports Radio. We're coming to you from the tyrat

(00:24):
dot com studios. Tyrat dot com let me get there
on match selection. No, No, you're two times fast free
shipping free road has a protection over ten thousand. Recommended
style of tyrat dot com sway tirebuking should be mm
hmmmmm mmmm. So I tant to ask myself self, what

(00:52):
what shall we talk about today? Right? And we'll get
to PACER's Celtics, which gets underway tonight. That game is
going to start at what eight o'clock Eastern five o'clock
Pacific time. But before we get to that, I want
to talk about some of the coverage stuff with the

(01:13):
New York Knicks, because people seem to want to discuss that.
You know, it seems to be kind of a point
of what a point of contention really is that ESPN
they had the Stephen A. Smith thing where he's walking
in and he does a pregame speech, which of course
is I mean, it's fairly laughable, right. One. He never

(01:39):
coached in the NBA, never played in the NBA. The
only associates in the NBA is covering the NBA, and
so that part is super weird. In addition to which
he is one of these what anyone would call completely
fake fans because if the Knicks lose, especially when they
have lost, he wants nothing to do with them. And
when they suddenly win, now he's mister nick like. That

(02:02):
doesn't really work that way. But we should also point
out that Lou Holtz did this for Notre Dame. Now,
of course Lou.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Holds the head to the kid coaching Notre Dame when
they win next championship.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
You know, he's always claimed Notre Dame. It's kind of
like hit School.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Don't forget Lou Hawt was the coach of Arkansas and Minnesota,
and of course they love South Carolina and that one
ended with a big brawl.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
And then he's coaching your yet for a short period
of time. Not that many people know that but Lou.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Holts need to go in and give a big game
speech to Notre Dame getting ready for the big games.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
And the and the point about it is kind of
the same. We'll get to the second. Here's Dan Patrick
talking about ESPN.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Now we turn our attention to ESPN's New York Knicks,
who lost in Game seven to the Pacers. Pacers did
play in the game. I just want to let ESPN know, Uh,
if you want to buy into East Coast bias, you
have every reason to buy into ESPN's East Coast bias
watching that game. How about some impartiality here?

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
I was embarrassed for ESPN because it felt like it
was all about the Knicks. Even at halftime, it was
about the Knicks. The Pacers aren't exciting. I get it,
you know, not big names, not a sexy team. But
you still have to cover the game. You got to
be fair. I don't need a stephen A Smith a
rival video. I don't need a pep talk with him

(03:29):
and Spike Lee. He doesn't work for the Knicks, you
work for ESPN. I was really surprised and I didn't
care who won. But after that I was rooting for
the Pacers. I thought, you know what, let's make this
uncomfortable for you.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I actually like that, and I actually think that's part
of it. Like, look, we can sit here and deny
that New York is the number one market in the country.
We can sit here and deny the fact that when
they're on TV it feels different than when other teams
are on TV. What we can't DENI is the numbers.
And then numbers will tell you more people care, more
people pay attention. It's the same as the Cat Dallas Cowboys.

(04:06):
It's the same as not Tree Dame. And granted, Notre
Dame and the Cowboys have been more successful more recently
than the New York Knicks have. I'm not in denial
of that. But what is important. What's important to know
is that all of this plays into the widest set

(04:28):
of the audience. Right. That's the biggest thing that people
need to understand about our business. If you're playing to
a narrower audience because it feels right to you or
you think it's the right thing to do, you're not
actually doing your job. Now, do they go overboard with
the Stephen A Smith's thing? Sure, sure, but making him

(04:49):
unlikable does not hurt what they're trying to do. If
more people tune in just because they want to cheer
against the Knicks and against Stephen A. Smith's pick, great,
They're in the business of getting people to watch their channel. Now. Look,

(05:13):
of course this contradicts I know what Jason's thinking right now.
He's thinking, well, didn't Steven A. Smith go on Dan
LeBatard Show and say I'm a journalist. No, you're not.
You're not a journalist. I would say you're an entertainer. Right,
And if you don't like entertainers, just understand Monday Night
Football has had entertainers in the broadcast booth for years.

(05:36):
I mean, honestly, that's the Manning cast. They talk from
real football, but they also do entertainment. So there's no
one way in which you have to do it. But
denying the fact that playing up the New York Angle
is a good thing, this is not an you know,

(05:56):
people want to go, well, ESPN's dying. ESPN's not dying.
They're not going anywhere. Okay. Cable in fact, isn't dying either.
Cable is slowing down and whatever. But people are starting
to understand, like, hey, you know the cable bundle thing
was kind of a good deal back before we had streaming,
and eventually we'll move to all streaming, right, but we're

(06:20):
not close to being there just yet. But if you're
ESPN and you're trying to create a way to get
people to watch, we don't all have to watch because
it's Saturday morning, Sunday morning TV, right, doing the lovey dovey,
happy giggling no real content shows That doesn't always work.

(06:46):
You know, TNT shows they can't compete with because they
don't have Barkley, they don't have Ernie, they don't love Shook,
they don't have Kenny. So they're trying stuff. They're trying
to get your attention and oh yeah, by the way,
talking about it only helps catch your attention. Here's Colin

(07:07):
opening his show this way. The only people more disappointed
then Nick fans that they lost in Game seven at
home to Indiana was ESPN. Apparently, Yeah, because they do
a number, they do a number, they do a massive number. Okay,

(07:29):
Nick's Syracuse right, you can and don't get me wrong.
A lot of these people are self important people. A
lot of these people can rub you the wrong way
because of the way in which they cheer for their
fan and cheer for their team whatever. That's okay. The
numbers would tell you that more people watch. Now. ESPN

(07:50):
has trouble, and I think lots of play step trouble,
but Espen especially has trouble deciphering how to understand those
numbers and how to still do their job while playing
at least partially to that vibrant audience. I had told
the story on Dan Patrick Show a long time ago
that my last year at ESPN was during Tebow time

(08:11):
and it was hard at times because t BO time, Hey,
Tebow time was people trying to jam Tim Tebow stories
in that didn't really fit. They just didn't and they
went overboard. And the next thing you probably went overboard.

(08:31):
But you know what, you get as much juice out
of the Orange as possible. Because the Knicks were two
to beat up to win. They're gone and so their
number is gone as well. I'm not sitting here defending
doing an all Knicks broadcast. Actually, usually when you do
a broadcast, you do one more for the visiting fans
than the home fans, because the home fans are the

(08:53):
real ones are at the game. But in this particular instance,
when you're playing to the widest set of the audience.
I don't think it's crazy. I don't think it's crazy
to do a Cowboys game and play more of a
Cowboys angle. Doesn't always have to be positive Notre Dame game.
Same thing. More people watching the Knicks are on TV.
More people care when they win or when they lose.

(09:13):
Same thing with the Cowboys, Same thing with Notre Dame.
And whether or not they've won or haven't won recently
and they haven't is irrelevant.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio Coming to you from
the tyrat dot Com studios. You know what happened for
the first time and I can't remember, however, is I
heard an interview that Sirius XM had with Bronnie James.
Here's Lebron, Here's Lebron James un or Brinnie James on
what it's like to be well him.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
What was the decision making process like for you to
turn pro because it seems like it has just recently
come down where you just to stay in the draft.
Here you are here at the combine in Chicago. What
was that whole process like? And maybe take us through
your decision making.

Speaker 6 (10:07):
You know, I always want to end up where I'm
happy most Mom has always told me, you know, take
me where my heart wants me to be. And you know,
I just I just found found happiness and what I'm
doing right now, and I feel like that's where I
want myself to be at.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
What is it like to play the game of basketball
when your father is one of the all time great
to the sport?

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Tough?

Speaker 6 (10:28):
A lot of criticism gets thrown my way, but you know,
I got to deal with it. They don't know what
I've been through. But yeah, I just I just try
to make the best of my opportunities that's given to me.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
That's fair. I just look, I have always looked at
it from a lens I think of not positivity, negativity,
of just being honest, right. And the good thing, by
the way, now of him declaring that he's staying in
the NBA draft, is I can continue to comment like

(11:01):
if he's a college player, it makes it a little
trickier being at college coach. But now that he's gonna
be a pro. I don't. I think it's a mistake. Now.
It doesn't mean you can't develop in the G League,
but the way to truly stick and develop to get
the best the best basketball. Like Drew Joyce played growing
up with Lebron James, they are lifelong friends. Why wouldn't

(11:24):
you just go play for him for a year where
you can play thirty minutes, make mistakes, explore your game.
But I also think that, and I'm sure there'll be
people that take shots at him for saying, you don't
know what I've been through, But we don't. Do you
know what it's like to be the guy who's you know,
every time your dad walks in, there is just this massive, massive,

(11:48):
not just physical but you know, figurative shadow. Look. I
like him to make it. I mean he's gonna make it,
but I'd like him to earn it and make it.
It wouldn't be the first time this is a favor
on NBA roster. We'll see. We've seen that in Milwaukee
for years and I can't imagine what it's like to

(12:11):
be the son of Lebron. But I just think in
terms of individual decisions, the best one would have been
to go play for Ducune go, you know, get a
ton of reps, succeed, some fail, some succeed mostly again
and instead now you know it's going to be probably
G League and then hoping for the occasional call up

(12:33):
to be with your dad. Can he develop? Yeah, people develop?
The likely it is gonna be hard, all right? Well,
John's are John Mitcoff Joints just three and Ounce the
podcast and the Volume podcast network, And Johnny, how are you?

Speaker 7 (12:51):
I'm good?

Speaker 1 (12:51):
How are you doing good? How would like? What are your?
I know you have the Going Low podcast as well,
so we usually have you on to talk football, but
the Going Low is a golf podcast. What do you
think about what happened with Scotty Scotty Scheffler going back
to last Friday?

Speaker 8 (13:09):
You know my overall take. Obviously the situation transpired because
of the traffics backup because someone died, which was a disaster.
But I think the visual of him in an orange jumpsuit,
and for people that don't know because he's despite being
the best player, he's not like Tiger famous or Phil famous.

(13:30):
I mean he's probably the most low key, you know,
god fearing. He's pretty boring and for that to happen
to him, I truly believe, Doug. It's one of the
most interesting things that happened to golf in a long
long time. I mean, one thing that's riddled with the
sport right now, which I think fans are tired of
and ratings have been down, is just talk about rich

(13:52):
guys getting richer, you know, with the Saudi's.

Speaker 7 (13:55):
With the new equity.

Speaker 8 (13:57):
Like, people are tired of that crap and just want,
you know, fun, interesting stuff.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
And I think this kind of adds.

Speaker 8 (14:05):
It was legend. I mean, he's so good. He's basically
a two and a half to one favorite this week
in Congressional and I actually think it's a pretty good bet.
And that visual of the orange jumpsuit is just something
like when it happened to Tiger. You know, we all
saw that Duy video. That's a tough watch, you know,

(14:25):
this one. I think most people are like, this is
probably pretty stupid, and I think it just adds. It
helps just get him on the radar of a lot
of casual fans that probably weren't paying attention.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Yeah, what's amazing was how well he played that day,
and then of course didn't play nearly as well on
the Sun Saturday.

Speaker 8 (14:42):
I think, you know, I can't imagine. I've never been
detained or locked up, been close in my younger years,
but I would imagine the adrenaline his caddie, Ted Scott,
who's a longtime guy for Bubba Watson and who came
to Scottie and they've been a dominant Paring.

Speaker 7 (15:00):
Had to fly back.

Speaker 8 (15:01):
I don't know where his kid went to high school,
but he graduated high school, so he was gone. So
like the PGA tour pastor who they are really close with,
caddied it probably didn't help. Could you look at his
other three rounds? You know, it's crazy. I think he's
gonna win the US Open at Pinehurst, and hell he
might win the British Open as well. We'll look back

(15:22):
and go if that incident doesn't happen, I think there's
a very good chance. You know, Scottie won all four.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Stet Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Trader, let's turn
our attention to football. You know, we've seen what Detroit
has done in terms of their quarterback with his money,
and it does feel like you know cost certainty, you
know cost certainty, you know who he is I mean
like he's Matt Ryan two point zero, right? Is that fair?

Speaker 7 (15:53):
Uh?

Speaker 8 (15:53):
Yeah, I mean he's he's a really good player who
you just feel feel good about. And now he's proved
he can win playoff games multiple places, which is more
to say than some of these other guys, right, didn't
want money.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
I do think it's there'd be an interesting deep dive there.
I know that that Sean McVay didn't draft him and
he got frustrated by him. But and I know they
won a super Bowl, but it'd be really interesting to
know in everyone's heart of hearts, if that is still
the right call. What do you say that was that
still the right call for them?

Speaker 8 (16:22):
Well, Stafford's I mean a much better play. I mean
Stafford when he's on, I don't think there's much of
a gap between him and the other cats. We talk
a lot about Mahomes, Alan Burrow. I mean he's right there,
he's I mean, honestly, when he's on, he's as good
as a guess. I think when you factor in the
age and some of the other stuff. Big picture maybe,
but you know, it's like Winhorse says about the NBA,

(16:45):
when you win a title, you never have to apologize.
No matter how crappy or dumb the trades look, I
think that trade still looks pretty good. It didn't look
good two years ago when he was banged up, and
the Lion's really benefited on that trade and ended up
getting their star young running back, you know, a tight
end that has a chance to be like Kelsey two
point zero. But they kind of answered the fell this

(17:05):
year and I got staff for that games last year.
I mean that one of the best games of the
year was that Ravens game on the road, where I
think that's good of a game as I saw all
last year when you factor in the element. So I
think the Rams feel pretty good about it. Even McVeigh,
you know he's he's younger. I think it's kind of
apologized for the way he publicly handled it. Because one

(17:27):
thing's pretty clear, even with your coach, now, you got
to get frustrated at your players. We're all humans, just
like in any business, you get frustrated with someone you're
working with, But in a public job like that with
a good guy like Gop is definitely not someone who
anyone's having any character questions with. I think they and

(17:49):
let's say make the Lions you know, one of the
best trades, you know, Quinn, the GM clearly is ever
going to make is he was offered the same thing
by the Niners and the line two first round picks
Jimmy Garoppolo or Jared Goff, and he one d percent. Now,
it turned out because the Niners were good two years ago,
the RAMS pick was way more valuable.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
But you didn't know that at the time.

Speaker 8 (18:13):
But to get Golf over Jimmy Garoppolo, I'd say the
aged pretty well.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
I would definitely say it aged very very well. Looks
like an absolute genius move, even though as we established,
that wasn't my question. But you did do a nice job.
You did a nice job with it. Johnny. By the way, Uh,
what'd you say was what was your honest reaction when
I got the job?

Speaker 8 (18:39):
Excited for you? I mean, you and I have been
talking for years. I know you're interested in these jobs,
and listen, I think the number one thing I tell
everybody is, uh, you know, follow your passion. And I
last week, maybe the day after we talked, I watched
your press conference and Maria looked at me and I'm like,
She's like.

Speaker 7 (18:59):
God, he's a good speaker. I'm like, hey, a broadcaster,
he knows what he's doing.

Speaker 8 (19:02):
But you know, you talking about how much it means
to you, and you know when you get a niche.
I think in life, especially the older you get, I
think life's too short and you get these opportunities. I
didn't know listening to you talk about your history in
the area, your dad started there, or when you were
born your dad was coaching there, listening to coaching the

(19:26):
best coaches I've been around by a mile, Pat Hill
and Andy Reid.

Speaker 7 (19:31):
You know, Pat Hill was I think the first.

Speaker 8 (19:33):
Million dollar non Power five coach, and Andy's made an
ungodly amount of money. Their passion for football is I'll
never meet anyone that loves football more than Andy Reid.

Speaker 7 (19:44):
And you know that's a passion.

Speaker 8 (19:46):
And I say this all the time, like I realized
why I'm better at my job now than I ever
would have been in the NFL, is like I don't
know if I love football enough, and I don't think
fans quite realize like the deep yearning cash for the
sport and you obviously being around to your whole life
playing it the love. You can't fake that, So like

(20:07):
you said, it doesn't guarantee wins or losses, but that
passion gives you a chance.

Speaker 7 (20:11):
And let's fake.

Speaker 8 (20:12):
You know a lot of coaches now in all these
sports and gms, with the money flying around sports, you
know some guys I don't want to say they're in
it for the wrong reasons, but it's hard to match
that passion. Let's face it, the best coaches in the
history of time have all had this deep burning love.
I would say practice. You know, basketball is a little

(20:33):
different football because you practice so much. These guys love
going out to practice.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Yeah, you have to love it. I will tell you this.
And obviously I'm not allowed to talk about prospects and stuff,
but I had like the things that gives me goosebumps
is I I got a commitment from a player who
we're not ready to announce it just yet, but he
had he had two questions for me. Okay, guess what

(20:58):
the questions were.

Speaker 8 (21:02):
Probably not nil because that wouldn't be your style.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
It could be, could be, but but no it was not.
I would say, coach, how about this one? Coach? Can
I get in the gym twenty four hours a day?
And Coach, can are we going to win? I don't
want to go to a place where we lose, job

(21:25):
to lose, right And I said, and I said, well,
I wouldn't be talking to you right now if you
weren't going to help us win. And I and I said, like,
tell me, I lost my first year at Notre Dame.
Tell me where I lost outside of that, but I
need you to help me win. And yeah, whatever you want,
here's the keys. I have a key right here. It's
it's yours.

Speaker 8 (21:45):
So I think there.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Is that out there. I know there's the you ahead.
I'm sorry.

Speaker 8 (21:51):
The power of coaching that I was and I was
around Andy probably his late fifties. Coach Hill was probably
his early sixties. You know, your children are getting younger,
they go off to college. You don't, you know, see
him every day. It keeps you so young. You know,
you meet these coaches that are people like how does
Pete look so young? Well, he's around twenty three year
olds every day, sir. You know.

Speaker 7 (22:11):
So there's a power in that that.

Speaker 8 (22:13):
Let's faith that most people, I don't care how successful
you are in your industry, the older you get, you're
usually not as around young people as much, you know,
And there's there's a power to that that I don't
think we ever talk about in sports when it comes
to coaches, and I would say most older guys, there's
a there's a you know, like a life preservation of

(22:36):
the wrong word. But it keeps you going that a
lot of people just don't get in their life, and
that's a powerful thing.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
No question about it. Doug Gotlib show here on Fox
Sports Radio. Okay, in regards to quarterbacks and money, what
ultimately can we use as a guide to Craft two
as next deal?

Speaker 7 (22:57):
Well, I'm going.

Speaker 8 (22:58):
To beat the drum here until if they announced the contract,
but if they don't, I think it's the one hundred
percent right move. What has ever, like all we hear
about is it's going to cost more, it's going to
cost more. Well, if it's going to cost more and
I feel good about it, then who cares? You know,
the Lions could have given Jared goffa contract extension last year,

(23:20):
but you can give contract extensions whenever you want. But
think how much more he validated it. And the NFC East,
now you know the Bills. I think the Bills they're
gonna might pick to win the division, but they obviously
have a lot of turnover on the roster. Belichick's gone,
and the Jets are like two hamstrings away from being
in shambles. That I just think, we can you win

(23:41):
the division? Can you get us a home playoff game?
And then can you play well in that home playoff game?
Because there's obviously value. I remember when Dak signed his contract,
I thought it was pretty nuts. Okay, this for Dak
every year. You know, the last three years are good example,
twelve wins and they've won the division two out of
three times. Now he didn't play well in the playoffs,
but he's hosting playoff.

Speaker 7 (24:00):
He's putting them in a position too well.

Speaker 8 (24:02):
Last year down the stretch wasn't as good, right, and
they were in a position where it looked like they
were going to cruise the division championship. The Bills are
six and six, the dust settles, and the Bills are
hosting playoff games, and the Dolphins are one and done
because they have to play in freezing cold weather. The
other thing in the AFC is, you know, the NFC,
if you got golf or you got pretty you know,
you feel pretty good.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
You know.

Speaker 8 (24:23):
In the AFC, it's like Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow,
Josh Allen. Now Herbert gets Harbaugh like, you better if
you just signed one of these times. You just saw
it with Russell Wilson and they signed a huge contract
and then immediately they knew they couldn't compete against the best.
It was obviously it was evident back when Nathaniel Hackett
was over his head. So you better be very careful

(24:45):
in that conference about because these these these deals are
so much greater than all these other positions. Like Bosa
got the most money ever and it was like one
hundred and twenty million dollars guaranteed, got got fifty million
dollar more guarantee that those are seasons where you're basically
on scholarship with his contract, So you better I just

(25:07):
I don't know the rush. Like he's on the books
this year for twenty three million. He's got a great
opportunity to kind of prove it again. He's obviously a
solid player. But there's a big difference between a solid
player and giving a guy I don't know, one hundred
and eighty million dollars guaranteed, no.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Question about it. Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio.
That's the voice of the one and only John Middlcoff.
Of course he joins us here and you can check
out his podcast it's called uh, it's called three and out.
What do you think happens in Minnesota where you have
a JJ McCarthy, but then you have a Sam Donald

(25:45):
And of course remember like Donald of course in San
Francisco again some their their general manager comes over from
San Francisco. So there's the ties there. On the other hand,
you're going to play the kid. How do you handle it?

Speaker 8 (25:59):
I think it's it's a pretty easy one because JJ
McCarthy shouldn't be able to beat out Sam Donald. So
you basically have, you know, a quote unquote competition. Sam
starts with the ones, and if he just takes it problem,
then you go with JJ McCarthy. But if he can't,
then you just sit them, develop them and let him
learn and make them your backup quarterback. My guess is

(26:21):
Sam Donald's started quarterback week one, and if they're a
competitive team, you know, a round five hundred and in
the wildcard mix, JJ McCarthy will just get his red
shirt ear and if things go a little poorly, like
we know how this works in modern day football, that
guy comes in. Now you got to be careful with
that because if things aren't going well, is he overwhelmed?

Speaker 7 (26:41):
Is the ruinous confidence.

Speaker 8 (26:42):
But there are also examples of guys Jared Gotsch rookie,
it was awful and he bounced back fine. But my
guest is Sam Donald's playing obviously if healthy, as long
as they're just competitive, and I think that was the
plan all along. That's why they've paid the guy. Say
that's for I've been critical at New England, but both

(27:04):
those teams were in positions to like pay eight ten
million dollars, get a bridge quarterback and just give themselves
a deep breath. Now Minnesota, I think we'd all agree
because we like their coach and they have more talent
on their roster, could just be a competitive team with
Sam Donald. It's very like it's hard with Jacoby Brissette
thinking they're going to win many games. And let's face it,

(27:26):
like I do believe the fans and just kind of
the narratives have a lot of pull in the NFL
because that's kind of what the owners watch. So Robert
Craft's getting crushed if they're you know, two and eight, Like,
no one's going to want to watch Jacoby Brissett and
you're forced to throw this guy out, you know, to
the Wolves before he's ready. At least with JJ McCarthy,
if you have to do that, they got enough weapons

(27:48):
on offense they can keep it relatively simple and make
them look, you know, ideally not bad his rookie season.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Johnny, you are the best man. Crazy stuff. And we're
talking about uh stuff with cops and a golfer on
the way to his round and uh and and not
talking about that with football. So always always interesting. Going
low is the golf podcast. Three and Out is the
big podcast that's covers the Nation Football League. He's the
one only John Middlecoff. You know what, I I got
a country club membership as part of the deal here, dude,

(28:20):
not that. So what I'm saying is, grab the sticks.
You and I will go over. We'll hang with Mark Murphy.
He's a friend, he's awesome. And then we'll go out
to Onada country club and we'll hit him.

Speaker 8 (28:32):
Let's get let's get a fight some Murphy the floor.
Goot me and you you want that? I mean, you
don't got to tell me twice.

Speaker 7 (28:41):
I'll be on playing tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
I'll set it up. We'll text you, thanks so much,
John Buds, Doug Gottlieb Show, John Middlecoff being on a
plane tomorrow, that's not hard, not bad at all. We
gotta gotta find that golf time for the President of
the Green Bay Packages Doug Gotlieb Show here on Fox Sports.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weeked. He said, three pm Eastern noon Pacific, Doug.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Every day at this time
the Doug Gottlieb Show, we turned over to Dan Byer.
We have some fun and play game.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 9 (29:25):
All right, Doug, the game today is rank Them. I
don't know if I was more offended not being included
in your group with middle Coff and playing golf, or
that it was a five sum.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
He said five. I was like, what, yeah, so Bayer, Bayer,
you wanted okay, so who would we add? So then
we'd have six? I mean two three, that's way better?

Speaker 9 (29:48):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (29:49):
Yes, how about we do two threes and then I
get two donors?

Speaker 9 (29:53):
There you go, perfect, let's go out and do it
and you're at Oneida.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Is that right?

Speaker 9 (29:59):
I think it's right off of twenty nine. Yeah, so
all right, all right, well let's get no, never.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Have either, but eventually i'll have that course knowledge. Yes, yes,
all the course, especially the right side.

Speaker 9 (30:13):
I know of a pro in Wisconsin, a friend of mine.
You guys remember Jerry Kelly? Yes, yeah, remember if if
you guys want to add Jerry Kelly, I've got his number.
Oh that'd be great.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
Is he gonna donate to my collective?

Speaker 9 (30:27):
He went to the Did you go to the Rome
Tour stop Jason and Madison? Yeah, that was that was
where I met him. Yeah, yeah, because I was going
to say that's where he went on stage. Ah, yes,
that was good twenty one years ago. All right, anyway,
let's talk about twenty twenty four. In four sums instead
of five sums or three sums, Doug rank the final
four teams left in the NBA playoffs.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
I'm gonna put Celtics at one, I'm gonna put the
I'm gonna put the Mavericks at two, the Wolves at three,
and the Pacers at four. All right, what do you
want me to follow up as to why or actually

(31:12):
what are your rankings? And we'll see how if we're
if we're part of all.

Speaker 9 (31:16):
You know, I'm gonna put you ready for this Minnesota one.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Wow, not crazy.

Speaker 9 (31:25):
Yeah, I'm gonna put the Celtics two in the MAVs,
three in the Pacers four.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Okay. My my logic behind it was the Celtics have
been to the NBA finals before, right, so they have
gotten to this place and succeeded before. I do think
with perzingis that's a really talented crew. I would I
would tell you I think Minnesota is super talented too,
But you have so many pieces that haven't experienced any

(31:52):
success in the playoffs. And then you know, I, I
know Luca's been to the conference finals before, but also
Luca's you know, one of your championship. I just and
you have Kyrie whus one NBA championship. I just viewed
that experience as being the siding factors.

Speaker 9 (32:06):
Can I pose this quick question, since we're just talking
about teams. I did it this past weekend. Would you
rather be a fan in the next ten years of
the Mavericks or the thunder.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
Good quession.

Speaker 9 (32:23):
I appreciate you saying that because I thought it was
because I thought, like on the surface, you say, well,
look at the thunders picks, but then you say, well,
the Mavericks have Luca and vice versa. Like I just
was going back and forth on it. I settled on
Oklahoma City, but.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
I think the I think Oklahoma City is gonna be
a consistent winner. But I do think Dallas right now
has a better chance of being They'll have higher peaks
and maybe lower valleys.

Speaker 9 (32:53):
Speaking of peaks, Rudy Gobert was a unanimous pick to
the All NBA Defensive First Team. Today, Doug the three
best defensive players in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
Oh man, I don't, I God, I don't know if
I'm equipped for this one. I would say Gilbert. I mean,
I think Jane McDaniels is amazing.

Speaker 9 (33:10):
Yeah, he was second team, Drew Holiday second team and
the first team. By the way, for those that missed it,
Rudy Gobert, Victor Woman Yama, Anthony Davis, bam Adebayo, and
Herb Jones.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
I'm gonna go uh, I'll add I'll add Anthony Davis
as the third best. So that's my list, all right.

Speaker 9 (33:34):
Donovan Mitchell could be leaving Cleveland, but if he does
or doesn't, Doug rank the best spot for Donovan Mitchell
in the twenty twenty four twenty twenty five season. By
the way, there was a report that said that there's
no way the Calves would trade him to the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Just thing that, hmm. I would say number three is
New York, number two is Cleveland, and number one is Miami.

Speaker 9 (34:04):
All right, this on the heels of a little bit
what you were talking off on the top Stephen A.
Smith getting his own walk in video montage rank the
top three NBA media personalities of all time, all time? Yes, yes,
So when you think NBA we kind of did this
with the NFL pregame show, you know, a few weeks back.

(34:26):
But NBA personalities that just come to mind, and I'm
sure we're probably gonna leave some some out, but.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Uh, Hub at three, all right, he'll be at three.
I know who's number one?

Speaker 9 (34:45):
What about the late great Craig Seger.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Craig Sagger was great, was great, but he was a
sideline guy. But he everybody because of the Jackets and
how much how beloved she was. I mean, Barkley is
clearly number one, and I don't think Sega is number two.

Speaker 9 (35:09):
What about Snapper Jones Back in the day, Marv Albert.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Marvel, I go about Marvel. I'm okay, Marv Alberto.

Speaker 9 (35:19):
All right, And finally Doug right the three best things
of week, Numero uno.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
At Green Bay, oh Man, the three best things. Number
three has been connecting with kids, these kids and their parents.
Is he's telling them a vision and getting the ones
that we've gotten signed back up to sign up.

Speaker 6 (35:44):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Number two has been just the area Green Bay has
blown me away by how beautiful it is. The ease
of because it's built for football Sundays. There's like no
traffic at all at any other time period. That's crazy.
And number one is the mental and emotional fulfillment of

(36:06):
the week.

Speaker 9 (36:08):
All right, and that's game time.

Speaker 4 (36:11):
Game. This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 1 (36:17):

We're live at the tyrack dot Com Studios. A lot
of stuff to get to, but tonight the Eastern Conference
Finals gets underway. The Boston Celtics are a prohibitive favorite.
They had the best record in the East, and if
we're honest, the Indiana Pacers, well, they benefited greatly from

(37:02):
the fact that the New York Knicks just couldn't stay
healthy against them. So everybody thinks that Celtics are going
to win this series. But you have to ask yourself,
or maybe you guys can ask me, what do the
Pacers need to do other than win four games? What
they need to do to beat the Celtics. How about

(37:23):
we dive in next on The Doug Gottlieb Show here
