Speaker 2 (00:46):
All right.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
So no NBA game tonight because the Wolves fought off elimination,
so they did force a game five and they get
to go back home. So the chances are we could
extend it to six. We could see that very much,
see that happening. There are some other interesting things going
on in the world of sports. But we think that
the middle of the week, the middle of the show,
(01:06):
the middle of the day. Calls from the Midway. It's
not getting.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
It's time for the.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Midway.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Okay, there, gentlemen, what do we decide on we're gonna
do for the Midway. We're gonna do Kaitlyn Clark and
we're gonna do the uh the Negro league stats being
morphed into all baseball stats.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yeah, no decision as of yet. You could be the
arbor or there arbiteur ob a tour.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
I'm okay doing both. I think we've got time doing both.
We've been good on time today. Let's start. Let's start
with the Caitlin Clark thing. Let's see if we can
flush out the Kaitlyn Clark thing if we have a chance.
If not, we can always circle back on the pod
and get into the baseball stats. That okay with you, Jase.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Dou No, that sounds like a plan.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Okay. So I think here's the big midway question, right,
which is, at what point in time was it, JASEU,
that we move on from Kaitlyn Clark. What's the what's
the Kaitln Clark angle that you wanted to hit up?
Speaker 4 (02:10):
No, I mean we're two weeks into her professional career.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Now I am the person that says that time flies,
but it seems like a lot long, a lot more
long ago, what's the word. It seems like her pro
her pro career started more than two weeks ago. That's
what I was going for. So but I just wanted
to get check your guys's temperature here because you know,
(02:36):
I was live texting the game last night. And again,
I'm not saying she's not good, and I'm not I'm
not saying she's not getting along pretty well as a pro.
But like I thought, and I'm talking about my perspective here,
she needs to transcend the game to take it to
(02:57):
the next level. Her just being a decent rookie or
being a decent player, I don't think does that. Like
they have written checks that they need to cash down
the road with her popularity. So like, I'm just not
seeing that when I watch her, and it's not an
easy watch. I've never watched the WNBA, never watched NHL
(03:19):
hockey for a lot of the same reasons. It's just
not interesting to me, and I'm losing interest in it.
And I think I said last night, I think I'm
gonna give it maybe two more weeks and hope that
she transcends.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Jason let me ask Jason something.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
So, what if we're gonna like manifest transcending the game
at this point in her career, what would that entail?
Obviously winning more games?
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Like no, no, no, no, hold on, Sam, you did
a really good job. But if you're gonna ask the question, yeah,
let him answer the Sure.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Sure, I'm just adding a little further context to you.
Go ahead, need to sure you asked.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
A really good question. Yet what does that entail?
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Jase two and entails like, no matter what you're doing,
you need to tune in Tiger Woods, Uh, Tim Tebow
in college, no matter what you're doing, and you need
to tune in to watch that Tiba and the press
that transcends Tiger didn't he have to start somewhere or
(04:16):
on the building towards greatness.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Tebow had to start somewhere building his legacy at Florida.
So she's she's twenty percent into her rookie season or
eight games in. So wh're I mean, it's just like,
what are the are there? What are iolistic?
Speaker 1 (04:31):
I have a different a little different take a little
different perspective, but I want to get to that second
person buyer, where are you on your interest level? In
Kitler Clark.
Speaker 6 (04:39):
So I didn't watch last night. I have watched when
the viewing has been easy or easier, ABC, ESPN, whatever
the case is. I have tuned in on those occasions.
If there's not as much of a conflict, I have
tuned in and I've kept it on there. What I
thought was so telling, and specifically about last night, because
it's a clip that went viral and it's a bigger
(05:03):
conversation I think about the WNBA, is that you had
a woman at the free throw line last night that
was so focused on stopping Caitlyn Clark. She didn't realize
that she had another free throw after the one that
she shot.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Do you see this clip, thug Yep.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
She shoots the free throw and then she immediately goes
and tries to man up on defense when she has
a second one, And like, if you think about that,
first of all, this woman was so preoccupied with Caitlin
Clark that she didn't even think about her scoring or
where the game situation was. But also of all the
(05:40):
other players in the Indiana Fever, it was so important
for the La Sparks to make sure that you cut
off the head of the snake of Caitlyn Clark that
you would go to that length to do so, like
it was such a focus, which then tells me the
rest of her team stinks and the rest of her
team team you know, also includes like another number one
(06:02):
overall pick and.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
So like to be so.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
To Jason's point that he's talked about or that you
have talked about Doug in this conversation about making things
easier for for Caitlin Clark, I don't know if you
have to do that, but man, there isn't as much
talent unless it's all on the aces.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
In New York, Liberty.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
That's actually true, you know.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Then I thought that there was in the league if
if she is that important to that other team of
them trying to stop.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Okay, a couple of things to dig into here. Okay.
The first is we are kind of burying the lead
of what we most of us feel, and Sam, I
could be wrong. You may not feel this way, which
is it's hard to watch women's basketball.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Oh hold on, hold on, I have things to add
to that for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Okay, it's hard to watch and hard.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
To watch Jillie h seventy eight for seventy four game
with forty minutes of play, well, like they're playing eight
fewer minutes than the WNBA. But this is professional women's basketball,
and sometimes they're scoring in the sixties and seventies and
seventies and eighties.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Not just that they're just they're not. They're like you're
watching you watch Derek Lively play blocking shots above the rim,
Derek Jones finishing shots, and as much as Luca is
in a blur, athletically, the shot making, the skill, the
town is so much better.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
There's no dunking.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
It's just hard to watch.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
It's a different It just is.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
There's just no other And what's interesting is, like, here's
where I would push back on you, Jay stew in
terms of transcending sports. No, she's not Tiger. There's only
one Tiger. But it's also golf. Has there ever been
a professional women's sports that you have watched, like women's
soccer has had. I think they still have a league,
(07:58):
they've had leagues, there's been all maybe women's tennis, but
even that, when was the last time you sat down
maybe Serena on the on the going Away Tour sort
of thing, So she kind of has transcended. But the
first thing is I think what wears you down is
the fact that the overall of the sport you actually
nailed at dan Byer without even no maybe planning on
(08:20):
doing so. The league was a mess last year because
two teams have all the players right, all the players,
it's not really close. And then you factor in it's
not a great watch, not competitive games. There's a lot
of complaining about stuff when you're like, I'm not really
sure why anybody's complaining. Her team's not very good and
(08:42):
it's gonna get thankfully, there's not a ton of stuff
going on right now. But when the Olympics start, I
think that wears it down. And once we get to
win anything football, Like, you're not gonna watch WNBA basketball.
I don't care how much you say you are. You
know you're not gonna watch it when the NBA Finals
are on. You're not gonna watch it when the NFL
is on, and you know most guys aren't gonna watch
it when when there's there's a high level golf on.
(09:07):
So it's on. It's better than it's ever been. It's
a better watch than it's ever been, but that doesn't
make it a great watch. And just because she's transcending
how we watch sports does not mean that she's transcending
at the level of Tiger or the level of Lebron
and the level of you know of you name it. Anyway,
can I jump in there, of course, So.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
You know, she's obviously not Tiger Woods. That's an individual sport.
But she has a she this is not you know,
it can't be. She's not just succeed in the w
A if it's w NBA, if it's one on five,
Like she she's been playing basketball since NonStop, pretty much
since the fall. You know, she still needs time to
gel with this team. She's a fun chemistry. You know,
(09:51):
it's just been bang bang bang regular season college basketball
right into the pros, and I just feel like to
this team, they're just they're still just very clunky. You
watch them play, they're clunky. She'll be she'll be throwing
a dime down the court and it'll get into the
it'll get into the player under the hoops hands, and
then she'll she won't make the layoup and like that's
something that should just be sort of you know, almost
(10:14):
high percentage shot. Right, So there's there's just a lot
of clunkiness still. And again, she has played already the
Connecticut Son, the New York Liberty, and Las Vegas Aces,
who have a ton of the talent. The WNBA and
the Atlanta Dream have only played four games and the
Fever have played eight.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
So I think she's just exhausted.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
She's on a bad team, or a team at least
it's trying to jail still and they played a ton
of games and uh yeah, I mean like they're just
they're finding chemistry. And again we're twenty percent in and
people want to flush her. That's fine, but I think
those people like being out a game Friday night.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Her fans are for real. It's like, it's it's crazy.
I'm as Sam on that thing.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
Like, I think that there's a much longer shelf life
then then Jason is. I think, you know, Jason may
be the I don't want to say the one off,
but that's his individual situation. But I think that there
there is just like we're not going to be sick
of victor Ie Binyama, you know after one season and
then we saw what he did in that season.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
It's going to be amazing.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
But I think it would be disingenuous of us to
judge him out of his.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
First ten games and then be like, all right, I'm.
Speaker 5 (11:26):
Over rookie quarterback four games into his season. Like, let's
say we're still playing sixteen games quarter of the way
through the season and one in three, are we ready
to flush that guy?
Speaker 6 (11:38):
C J.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Stroud's probably the perfect example.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
These examples are to me don't count because the WNBA
meant nothing to me. I ignored it for almost its
entire existence. Same with the NHL, and I'll give you
I'll give you the analogy in the NHL. If some
guy in Canadian minors Canadian juniors was averaging ten goals
(12:00):
a game, just blowing away Canadian juniors and revolutionizing Canadian hockey,
I would tune into that players first NHL game, even
though I can't stand watching hockey, because I if you,
if you're a transformative athlete in sports, that gets my attention.
(12:21):
And then this NHL player that averaged ten goals a
game and the juniors just becomes a regular NHL player,
I'm going to go back to ignoring the NHL. That's
that's my point. You guys are bringing NBA in the
NFL in here that those aren't examples that I'm comparing
it to I'm comparing it to sports that I have
always ignored, and am I going to start paying attention
(12:43):
to you?
Speaker 1 (12:46):
I'm with j Stu on that one. I with J Stu.
I also would tell you that that there's there's a
part of this story which we're not really giving credit
to in terms of Caitlin Clark and I actually think
the WNBA players themselves won't say it, but they know
(13:07):
it as well. Have you noticed that now they're taking
and I'm sure it's existed previously, maybe we didn't, we
didn't pay attention, But now when they show up their
arrival videos are now going viral and many of the
women are dressed and men like, listen, there some very
beautiful women playing basketball. But it's like so much. Previously
(13:30):
there was like, look, the WNBA has a high percentage
of lesbian incident and kind of sold to that audience, right,
and it was it. Honestly, You'd go to WNBA games
and I'd gone to a couple because I have a
couple of friends of coached in the w and you
would feel like, as a straight male, like even if
you brought your daughter, it was a little different atmosphere.
(13:51):
Now this is kind of for everybody, and especially for
you know, it's it's like a for little girls that
play basketball in high school. Girls play basketball like she's there, champion,
And it's a very real thing that lots of guys
I played with or played against, they sent their daughters
to play volleyball and other sports. And one reason it
(14:12):
was was kind of the cloud over. It was if
you could you be straight and playing in the WNBA,
And now you can. And I don't think that's going
away because I do think that that support from mainstream
moms and daughters and dads that coach their daughters like
they're absolutely behind this, and I think that basketball people
(14:34):
are a little bit more into it than they have
been previously. But I think the mainstream bands or the
people are hopping on to the big story like linsanity.
They'll go away, They'll go away.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
I feel in a way Jason's trying to get himself
to stop watching is that it Are you trying to
self sabotage it all, Jason Area, I'm.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Rooting for it. I remember I said on when you
were in on Monday, I made the point on the
air that there was a second or ten second period
of time on Friday night's game that Sam went to.
When I saw the Caitlin Clark that I want to
tune in watch. She was leading her team from behind
on a fast break. She pulls up for a logo,
(15:15):
three nails it, fist in the air, moxie in your face.
That's what I want to see all the time. And
it's just not happening. I had to slog through that
game last night. It is really hard to walk.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
It's not happening. But you're getting you're getting little doses
of it.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
I mean, and I'm saying that's not enough.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
I know, I know, I just think that's unrealistic. I mean,
she's she's pulling out little magic tricks here and there,
but it sounds like you want her to, you know, pull.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
A rabbit out of it, hand out on the street. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
But I mean again, we're twenty percent into her rookie year.
That's that's a small little sample.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
But no, Dan, I'm rooting for her. I want to
see her succeed now.
Speaker 6 (15:56):
But if she then goes and hits ten threes in
a game month and you haven't watched for two or
three weeks, so you're going to be back in I.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Think so, Yeah, so you're saying there's an ability, that
there is an ability we can bring you back.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Of course, yeah, I'm just saying I'll stop watching in
two weeks.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
But that also, I think then tells to her staying
factor if she does get adjusted to the game. And
it is the thirty five footers, it is the thirty
seven footers. It's the same thing with Steph Curry. Yes, honestly,
that's it is.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
And I actually think that Sam's point that he's made
fifteen times, which is it's the first first two weeks,
is like, look, any other rookie we give grace to,
we just do Webin Yama is a perfect example of it.
Maybe it's that there hasn't been a big gap between
college and pro and because we saw college and she's
(16:48):
been less efficient, And it's the turnovers. But the part
of it is, did anybody pay attention to the turnovers
during the college season? No, of course not. We just
saw We just saw the highlights of h hitting thirty footers.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
There's there's also something interesting that's going on with this,
and it's an ESPN only deal. They are trying so
hard to push Angel Reese. Yes as well, Like I
saw a tweet this weekend of Angel Reese was the
only w NBA rookie to score in double figures in
(17:21):
every game this season. They were three games in and
the high that she had was thirteen. That was a
tweet set out by an ESPN personality. Caitlin Clark had
what thirty last night? Was that in yep, thirty?
Speaker 1 (17:35):
So what do you think is behind that? Because I
think Jason and I both suspect we know, and I
wonder if you think you know.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
Well, I think they're I think they're trying to feed
two fan bases.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
I think they're trying to not be called racists.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
I think they're also trying to keep a rival alive
and well and keep irrelevant.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Maybe that's actually not bad, that's not bad because the
big I think the big thing is they don't want
to called racist because what's been labeled is well, if
you only follow Caitlin Clark and not and not Angel
Reese with then you're racist. Sure, No, she's better and
she's a better watch and more people like how she
plays better. She happen to be white.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
There was also something that was that was said where
Caitlyn had thirty points last night in ESPN said like, well,
something that Angel Reese did may.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Have been more impressive. Did you see this?
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Yeah, yeah, so so, but again like you need, you
need Caitlyn Clark to be a part of the story
to make Angel rees and that may not be fair.
Angel Reese took it, took a subtle shot at Caitlyn
Clark when she was wasn't subtle when it was it
was very passive aggressive. Uh, she just it was what
(18:44):
do they call it on on on Twitter, on ex subtweeting.
It was a verbal subtweet of Caitlin Clark when she
was talked about her hard follow and this past weekend
and saying like it's not because I'm a rookie, you know,
and blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
So it's very interesting.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
It's Caddy and that is the Midway, the Midway.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I know the answer
to this one, but I'll ask buyer, buyer, it's not fair.
He's done a movie guy, JASETU do you know what
movie this is from?
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Let's see what movie is this? I don't know, no,
what is it?
Speaker 1 (19:37):
This is from the movie Juice. I believe is that correct? There? Sam?
Speaker 2 (19:44):
I believe so the sounds.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
You don't know.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
What's the name of the movie, Eric g and rock
Him Juice nos a Ledge.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Yes, this is the this is the title song or
theme song to the movie Juice. And Tupac Shakur was
Tubac was one of the had a starring role in Juice. Yeah,
and I think I think in the in the movie
(20:13):
was a song where Snoop Dogg guested on, and it
was like Snoop Dogg's first song. He was he that
broke through since he was released from prison. That was
like nineteen ninety two, and then obviously now Snoop Stoope
has dominated the rap scene for a while. So speaking
of that Scotty Scheffler deal, right, we seem to have
(20:36):
gotten a little bit more clarity on it. I mean,
maybe a bit too much clarity on it, but we
definitely have some clarity as charges were dropped and the
more videos you see, the more all Scotty had to
do was stop. But it felt like a to say,
over ambitious police officer would be an understatement. I mean, look,
(20:59):
the fact that this kind of disrupted a major is
probably the biggest story. Like it's a it's obviously a
weird story where you want to go miscommunication, everybody's chili's
running too hot and all he had to do is stop.
And I'm sure Scotti Scheffler probably you know, one of
the things we have a tough time adjusting to as
(21:20):
civilians is how you're treated on a daily basis, and
then when you're not treated that way, any anyone within
reason can struggle to adjust. And the point is that
when you're Scotti Scheffler and you've been you know, you're
a superstar in golf. I mean, he has been the
name in the sport for the last year and a half.
(21:43):
You're so used to everybody you know bowing to your
whim that the one time or the first time somebody
goes like I don't know who you are, you almost
think either they're they're intending to offend you or they're
offending you, because how do you not know? Everybody else
knows sort of thing. But it got definitely got weird there.
(22:05):
So this is this is sound, I believe right, this
is sound. This is sound from the altercation between the two.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Yeah, Doug.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
This is the bodycam footage after the incident happened with
the original police officer, because again the original police officer
did not have his bodycam footage on. But what this
will also do, This will back up something that I
said hours after this incident happened and why this whole
(22:40):
deal happened. This was the bodycam footage of him talking
to a different officer that morning prior to the second
round of the PGA Championship.
Speaker 7 (22:49):
As I was pulling in, my window was down. An
officer told me to stop, and as I was, first
of all, I did not know that he was a
police officer. I thought he was one of the security
guards that was mistaken and as I was won't buy me.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
I'm stop right there.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Why doesn't matter if he's.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
A security guarder of police office.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
We just short of somebody's sewing you stuff.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
Yes, you're right, I should have stopped. And I did
get a little bit impatient because I'm I'm quite late
at four my tea times.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
I I mean, like, look, I I kind of get
it for both, right, I kind of get it. I
should have stopped I'm running late. I can't believe this
guy didn't know who I was. The cop was way
over the top and I was in a hurry.
Speaker 6 (23:31):
I don't think that Scotty's ever played that you know
who I am? Card because he was even asked about it.
I think it's just a matter of fact of he
probably felt that maybe he had more urgency because he's
a player, not because he's Scotty Scheffler, no.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Question, no question. But but it also, like Dan, like
if we're reasonable people, you're you do adjust to your
life of people going like, oh it's Scotty. Oh, Like
every who doesn't know who Scotty Scheffler is in golf,
you know you're around, and I under standing that you're
sitting there going like, hey, if you're a cop, you're
on a golf and you don't know. But when you're in,
(24:04):
when you're in that realm of literally everybody knows who
Scotty Scheffler is. He has been the dominant golfer on
the tour. It's not about do you know who I am? Look,
I got pulled over in Title Town. Like I went
out one night to just grab I got water and
I got two protein bars. And I'm in a rental
(24:24):
car and I didn't have you know, I just thought
it was on auto, so my taillight's were on. I
got pulled over and the guy's like, you know, where
are you coming from?
Speaker 7 (24:34):
You?
Speaker 1 (24:35):
And oh, yeah, by the way, Dan, you'll appreciate this
Illinois Plates. Got pulled over at Illinois Plates.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
There you go, and the guy's looking at is like.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
What are you doing here from California. It's like, I'm
the new basketball coach at Green Bay, like women's coach.
Like no, men's coach. Not that like Kayla's right around
the corner, but no. Anyway, Uh, it was. It was
a weird feeling and then multiplied by one hundred in
your Scotti Scheffler. But again, sometimes we can be humans
and make mistakes. I thought I thought, I thought you
(25:05):
said it was okay to go, or I was in
a hurry. You were a little bit you were in
a little bit of tough guy cop mode, nobody's listening
to you mode. And there was also something going on.
There's uh, somebody had like a medical incident, and that's
why they were holding people back, right. I believe that's
that's one of the reasons that the cops were a
little over zealous. Was there was actually some sort of
(25:27):
medical emergency and somebody died right as any scheffler that
doesn't know any about anything about this, he's just trying
to get th tea time.
Speaker 6 (25:34):
It was all backed up because a person was struck
and killed by a shuttle van shuttle bus earlier that day.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Right or like an hour earlier, which is terrible.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
And oh yeah, by the way, the cops are sitting there,
you know, they're they're being a little over zealous, one
because they're cops, and two because somebody just died. So
my my honest takeaway is I'm maybe this goes I'm
usually radical centrist, Now I'm just centrist. Is like, look,
sometimes you're in a hurry and you act, you know,
you're you know, you get agitated, and sometimes in you're
(26:06):
a cop, people don't understand all the other baggage that's
going on, and you're a little over the top, and
we can just go like, you know what, my bad,
my bad, you're bad, My bet, we're good. Let's move on.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
Nobody brought the cool head. It's two hot heads, two
urgent people running into each other.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
I get it.
Speaker 6 (26:22):
Yeah, I think that that's fair now. And this happened
the I mean, this happened, you know, forty eight hours
after you were introduced as the head coach. So I
was actually in for you that day. And I'm still
getting tweets from people on this topic. When I said
that this was Scotty Scheffler's fault, that all, like, if
Scotty Scheffler just listens to the person, sure who tells
(26:43):
him to stop, whether it be a cop, whether it
be a security person, whether they're a cop or not,
they're there for that instance and to help in that
chaotic situation. They are brought in, just like the people
at a concert that you're like, follow that guy with
the you know, with the range, and then the guy
at the orange vest is follow that guy with the
yellow vest. And so that that's what you do. You
(27:05):
just don't go off and do your own thing. If
Scotty Scheffler would have done that in this instance, no question,
it wouldn't have ended up with him being in jail
two hours before his you know, rescheduled tea time.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
I don't think there's any question. I don't think there's
any question. And because he's running late and again you're
taking it from a guy who's always running late. One
of the things I've done a really good job of
adjusting is when I'm trying to be on time more right.
But the other part is like being really understanding and
empathetic and how you approach people like they're just trying
to do their job. But my kind of thing is like,
(27:40):
I'm not excusing Scotty Scheffler, and I'm also not saying
and you're right, like in the if we do the
blame buy, most of it just goes on a Scheffler
if you're not late and you get there and you're like, hey,
what's going on now? I'm sir, I'm actually in the tournament.
I'm in a bit of a hurry, like could I
just get through here? Right? Those things? And sometimes that's
(28:01):
not even well received. But but I also realized that,
you know, cops can be a little bit over the top.
That guy felt like he was a little over the top.
You could bring in the fact that somebody was struck
and killed. Who knows what else is going on with
him and how agitated he was, and he probably thought,
who was his car not taking to my instructions? So
(28:24):
there you go. Trying to solve all the world's problems
right here in the dug outage.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
I will also say this is I do think that
we felt that this was the likely outcome, whether you
were and I don't even think that there was a
contingent against Scottie Scheffler, but if you were thought in
that case, I guess I would have been put in
that category, because I to think that his actions were
the reason that it escalated to this point. But I
(28:49):
don't think of anybody who actually thought that there would
be a trial that this would linger on. I think everybody,
in fact, everybody kind of assumed it last week when
they had that press conference, and then when they didn't
do it, you're like, wait, why are you holding a
press or a news conference when you really didn't do
anything and the charges are still up, And all it
was was just to say that the bodycam footage was disabled,
(29:10):
and it's them obviously just trying to be as transparent
as possible. But his arrayment was next scheduled for next
week and now it's off the books.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
All right. That's the complete update from Dan Byer, plus
a lot of discussions about Scotti Scheffler, and now that
it is off. We don't ever have to talk about
it again. There's a topic we don't ever have to
talk about ever, ever, ever again. Yay, yay yay. Come

Let's get to the press.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
The press.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Okay, there, kiddos, what have got damn?
Speaker 6 (31:01):
Doug, the agent for Bronnie James Rich Paul told ESPN
that his clients will not be going back to school
and will keep his name in the twenty twenty four
NBA draft.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Yeah. I just say I disagree with it, you know,
I disagree. I think he needs to develop as a
college player first. I do think you can develop in
the G league. I just think it's really hard. I
think it's very, very difficult. Didn't develop?
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Paul come out last week down and say that there's
no such thing as a two way deal, Like it's
not going to be an option for Bronnie.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
That sounds familiar. Yeah, I can't remember off the top
of mine.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Is that a thing?
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Doug?
Speaker 4 (31:37):
Could you as a player going to the NBA and
say that we're not doing a two way deal?
Speaker 1 (31:41):
You could? Doesn't mean that the team has to do it,
you know. I just you can say a lot of things,
you know, but is that really smart? Like you're really
gonna put him on the full time roster? Why would
you do that he's not good enough, and that's okay.
There's four hundred and fifty NBA players on this planet,
(32:05):
eight four billion males and give or take hey four billion,
there's four hundred and fifty NBA players. So when somebody says, hey,
he's not good enough yet, he may never be good enough,
I don't know. It's not like you're not like defaming
him as a human being. So he's on some levels
of prospect. I just I don't this just it's just
(32:30):
this positioning of arrogance which just rubs everybody the wrong way,
you know, and it's going to push the Lakers to
likely draft him and a draft pick. Just you know,
you're like, well, that's the second round pick. What's the matter?
Those are worth about four million dollars. That's how much
they're basically sold in the open market for late late
second round picks. Four million dollars.
Speaker 6 (32:50):
I mean, if his name was Jason Kinsley and he
ended up going to the NBA draft after what had transpired,
we would be like this is this is absurd or
it would be so far off of our radar that
we wouldn't even be talking about it. Yes, but because
he's Brownie James, I combine you and Jason, Yes, that's
(33:15):
l Tinsley, but it's also in an NBA draft where
there is no buzz whatsoever. The only buzz is us snoring.
That is the buzz that you're getting from the NBA
draft coming up in a month. Correct, And so now
you have this story. So this helps the NBA. But
(33:36):
even in a bigger picture, again it's if people who
are sick of it or sick of Lebron, it adds
to that factor. But even those of us who can
tolerate Lebron to great extent, if you also feel that
the NBA is manufactured and that there there isn't as
much legitimacy, this adds to it. During a playoff run
(33:57):
where you have two of the most genuine when I
think stars going head to head in a Western Conference
final that we've had in a long time, like it's
it's actually been so refreshing. And I'll leven go back
to the to the Western Conference finals and even the
Eastern Conference semi finals, excuse me, the Eastern Conference semifinal
or Western Conference semifinals and Jokics being there in SGA.
(34:18):
It wasn't heavy, it was light. It was fun and
this just again brings a heaviness back to the NBA.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Uh yeah, I mean I would all I I the
first part you said is interesting, which is nobody cares
or knows anybody that's going in this draft. I would
also say what's also interesting is if his name was was.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
It Jason Kinsley?
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Jason Kinsley sounds like a winner. He wouldn't be drafted
in this draft. I think one of the reasons that
you you wonder is like, well, maybe he's a late bloomer.
Maybe he maybe there's a big growth spurt coming, maybe
there's something we're missing. I just I feel bad for
Brownie because I don't think he's done anything wrong at all.
(35:03):
But I also think it is disingenuous for anybody who's
an analyst to go like that the heart issue has
any part of it. With or without the heart issue,
he's not he's not really a draftable prospect at this
point in time based upon his play and his size.
Now he fits in. Then you factor in that he
(35:25):
did have a heart basically a heart attack, and you're like, wow,
that's a super risky thing, Like what are we actually
doing here?
Speaker 6 (35:32):
And here's my other kicker because this happens a lot
in the NFL, not as much maybe with the NBA combine,
but I know it does in the NFL combine. When
a guy runs a huge forty, no you know, our
fast forty, he shoots up draft boards. Right, or if
someone maybe doesn't do bench press or his forties bad,
it can take a hit his measurables fell short. Right,
(35:52):
It's like he's not six ' four yet he has
now jumped thirty spots in some mock drafts to be
a first round pick to go to Phoenix, So then
he and Lebron could team up.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
If Lebron opts out of his contract like that, it
is just it is so absurd. It just flies in
the face of everything that we.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
Have, you know thought that we knew anyway.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
And just to clarify Rich Paul five days ago, Bronni
will not sign a two way MBA contract. Teams know
that I'm not doing that, says Rich Paul.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Go for it, go for it, right. I'd like to
see him hold out on that. I mean like the
Lakers would literally be the only team that would say that.
I can't imagine them doing that.
Speaker 6 (36:41):
Tyler is going to be back as the head coach
of the Clippers getting a five year deal that will
pay him about fourteen million dollars annually, total value seventy
million dollars four times.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
You can thank the LA Lakers for that one, right, Yes,
I think Tyler is a great coach. Okay, but and
he won an NBA title with the Calves. But let's
not act like this was a great finish to the
Clippers season going in New Arena. The only reason that
they overpaid him for more years was because he had
LA as an option, and probably Phoenix is an option too,
to be honest with here.
Speaker 6 (37:11):
By the way, I had some other NBA opt in
and opt out news go, but I didn't know what
I could all say with your stature of you know,
if you commenting on other teams players and whatnot. Because
guys are coming back to school, I don't know if
there is they're not.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
They're not going to play for me, so it's fine.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
All right. So Alex Caravan's going back to Yukon.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
I think he's awesome. By the way, I think Caravan's
a pro, But him coming back means that while scheduling games,
I want no part of Yukon. He's too good.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
So Jen L. Davis is leaving faith.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
In Arkansas right, yes, yes, doing time.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
And Chase Hunter is going back to Clemson.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Ooh, that's good for Clemson. Really good. He's tough, he's tough. Good.
This is the great, This is the actual good part
about nil is that in the past, all these guys
would be gone. Now they returned to college basketball. So
there is some good to the chaos of the new
era of college athletics. And that Stan Byron the press
that you get out there and pressed.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
That was the press.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
