So the way tire buying should be welcome in Celtics
take game one and look dominant doing so, right? I

(00:47):
mean if you sit there and say, hey, the Celtics
go and take game one and Jason Tatum didn't even
play particularly well, man, does that does set bode well
for the C's. And as I told you, my expectations
were for the Mavericks to win because Game one is
usually a game you can come in and sneak in there,

(01:07):
get a win before the series gets going, and I
like the Mavericks in the series. Does that mean that
I'm selling all my Maverick stock? It does not. I
try to have some balance about me, some poise about me,
and understanding of it, and the knowledge that despite what
I saw appeared to be a gigantic chasm between the

(01:28):
two teams, I also know that I've seen that another series,
and it's even out in the second game or even
in the third game, right, I mean, look, look no
further than the Nuggets series against the Timberwolves, wearing games one,
in game two, they weren't really competitive at home, and
then all of a sudden, the thing goes seven. Of course,
it did paint a picture for us of what ended

(01:49):
up happening in seven. But the point is that it
became a really hotly contested series. So you know, you
sit there and you're like, Okay, well, maybe this is
a bad matchup, or maybe it's just Christos Razingi's plays
so well in the first half without any sort of expectations.
We don't know. I will tell you that, and anybody
who's played basketball, I think knows this that what happens, Okay,

(02:18):
what happens in basketball, oftentimes, if you haven't played now,
this isn't more when you haven't touched the ball, when
you haven't played that first time back you do make
all your shots, and then the second time, second game,
or the second day, you can't make any shots. And
granted they don't play today, but the obvious points are
Prazingis changes everything, not just because he gives them again

(02:38):
then twenty points off the bench, but because he gives
them rim protection on defense. And then when you have
a big guy who can make threes, it takes away
Dallas's ability to protect the rim because their center has
to guard him all the way out twenty four to
twenty five feet away. He's not their best player, but
he can absolutely change the dynamic and approach of the

(03:00):
Dallas Mavericks simply by making shots and by sticking in
that game. Can we expect that type of performance from
him for the rest of the potentially six games.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
No.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
But the other part in the Celtics can say is, hey,
Jason TATM didn't play well, they still end up winning
the game by double figures, and you know, and doing
so going away pretty handily. But again, like how many
times we have to see these series to know that
game one, while telling, doesn't actually always tell us the
whole story. You know. There's been a lot of criticism

(03:35):
of ESPN's halftime coverage and how how many commercials there are,
and how there's a lack of analysis, But it's always
fascinating to me on how little people actually investigate and
understand the difference in cable and network TV. Don't get
me wrong, they should on some level stand up for
their studio shows and not have as many breaks, but

(03:57):
the breaks are cut up so much because that's how
they make money. It's different than cable. Right with TNTTNT
has a longer halftime show because they can. They're also
making money on their subs, whereas withes ABC, you're not
making money on your subs. You can make money on viewership,

(04:21):
and you can make money on selling selling ads, and
the more ads you sell, the more money you make.
And the only place to place ads are interspersed within
your live programming. That's what they're doing. Then I saw
the Doris Burke, of course, who made history as the
first woman to call a championship men's professional sports. Then
she said she's done a life for that. One is

(04:42):
a weird one. Wait, you waited your whole career to
finally get to the NBA finals. In the first comment
that you have is yeah, I don't want to do
this forever, like really really, And then we'll have and
we're going to cover this. We'll cover some of in
the podcast. We get the Bellmont this weekend. Many people
watch the Preakness, and I know who didn't win the

(05:03):
Preakness only because there's no talk of a triple crown winner,
so it obviously wasn't whoever won the Kentucky Derby. And
the Belmont is not even in Belmont, New York. It's
at Saratoga in upstate. Didn't know that, right? All these
are new things, speaking of speaking of the Belmont throw
over at racing as a new independent regulator HAISA that

(05:23):
is implementing comprehensive reforms, and the sport is combining hands
on care with cutting edge technology to keep its athletes
safely or more. Visit Safety runs First dot Com. That's
safety runs First dot Com. You know it's interesting that
the story the breaking story yesterday and we may have
to break in with it today, will find out what
happens with Danny Hurley. But It's really interesting how many
people are like, Wow, Danny Hurley college coaches is at work,

(05:45):
and then you're watching the Boston Celtics and you're like, hey,
who runs the Celtics. Oh right, that's Brad Stevens. And
Brad Stevens while he hasn't take them to NBA finals,
they were in conference finals and wildly, wildly respected as
one of the elite, if not the elite co coach
in all the NBA during his time. He kicks himself upstairs.
Now he's the president of Basketball Operations. I don't know

(06:06):
to me that that one is a great sign if
you're the Lakers that maybe you're on the right path
if you're copying the Celtics in your own sort of
unique way. Celtics brought in Brad Stevens to be their
head coach, then eventually kicked him upstairs. The Lakers are

(06:28):
trying to bring in Danny Hully as coach and what
does that mean long term? I can tell you that
it has worked as far as Brad Steve is concerned,
and it did. I thought it worked well even when
he was the head coach. So we act like this
is a path that people haven't traveled to travel down
and then you watch the Celtics and you're like, wait
a second. I mean, Joe Missoula is the youngest coach

(06:49):
in the in the NBA, and I think he's doing
a fantastic job. But if you think that Joe Missoula
knows more about coaching basketball than Danny Hurley does, and
it's not just because Danny Hurley has won two national championships,
but he's done it multiple levels, high school, low major,
mid major level and all the way up to Super

(07:10):
high major and now coaching at the highest level winning
two straight NCAA championships. It doesn't mean he'll immediately be successful,
but you do look around and you're like, hey, wait,
the Celtics were able to do this, and that guy
runs their whole operation, and the Celtics have now I
have no falloff in terms of talent wise, it keeps
getting better on a yearly basis. Thanks for listening to

(08:44):
How you doing? Hey doing? Hey doing? How hate doing?
I got a question for you and this is kind
of an open discussion with you A Dan byer and
and Dan has done a great job of filling in.
Matter of fact, I was driving their day and I
was listening to Dan filling in and I was like, gosh,
he's better than.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
Me, And well, that's not true, but I appreciate the compliment.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Really really, really really good. And you know, it's interesting
because I actually spent the last couple of days at
what I would call it retreat. It was sort of
a retreat, sort of a symposium, and it was with uh,
there's some of these champions of business, and the topic
was purpose and culture, and it was really fascinating and

(09:31):
it really helped me in terms of how we operate
with our show, how I want to operate with my team,
and it's these successful business people and talking about how
culture dictates so much of the actual performance really really does,
and went through kind of some case studies in it
from the restaurant industry to the tech industry to the

(09:56):
gaming industry. We did talk a little obviously about athletics, athletics,
college athletics, and then you know, the Danny Early story
kind of came out of nowhere yesterday. And I'll just
tell you that I think there's a couple of parts
of this that have not been discussed. You know. One
of the big frustrations when Magic Johnson was there was
Magic had a couple of guys that were that love

(10:19):
Magic Johnson and why wouldn't they It's the greatest Laker ever.
But he would plant stories with them, specifically this guy,
Brad Turner. Those of us who have lived in Los
Angeles or fall the Lakers, Brad Turner was Magic's guy,
and so Brad Turner would basically tell you two days
before something happened, something was going to happen, which is

(10:42):
the terrible way to do business. Terrible way to do business.
And it's interesting, right because here I am around these
champions of business, and one of the things that everybody
agrees on is what is the actual point in publicizing
what's going to be a future big move? Make the
move and whatever the reaction is, the reaction. I will

(11:02):
tell you the most impressive part about this whole Danhurly
scenario is, and I again I don't know what the
level of truth is, but I don't take Asian war
Zanowski as a liar, you know, is that this thing
has these discussions had been going on previous to the
actual tweet going out that kind of changed the landscape

(11:27):
potentially of college basketball and of the NBA, And the
fact that the Lakers had kept it quiet is actually
really impressive. At some point, you can't keep it quiet anymore,
and now we're left with whether or not he takes
it or doesn't take it. But I'm actually really impressed
by the fact that they kept it quiet this long.

(11:48):
And I do believe that while JJ Reddick was and
probably still is a candidate, right, the fact that that
got out is probably part of either JJ's team or
somebody else's agent leaking that out, not necessarily the real
information from the team.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Don't you think it definitely didn't come from the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
I don't think the JJ Redick thing, no, the.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
Danny Hurley story.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
No, No, I don't think it did. But I also
think that whoever did leak it, it was all prepared
to be leaked because he talked to his team yesterday, right,
That was the part which kind of differentiated it. So
many of these guys they just deny, deny, deny, deny.
They make themselves look foolish. And he met with this
team and it's like, yeah, look, I'm having discussed with them.

(12:40):
I haven't decided on anything, but I need you to know. Yeah,
I don't think it came from the team, but I
did think it looked like all Ducks were aligned and
that they knew it was coming out.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
I think it benefits Danny Hurley, of.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Course, because he still doesn't have a new contract with Yukon.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Yes, it just got one list year, but yeah, to
what he could get. And also I actually think of
squeezing the juice out of the Lakers because of the
JJ Reddick thing. And I don't know if you're going
to get to this point, but the JJ Reddick hire
now seems, you know, a bit ridiculous if you pivot

(13:20):
to him from Dan Hurley. In the case of for
so long it was thought of as out of the box,
just like your hire Doug. But now all of a sudden,
you have Danny Hurley who's interested in coming coaching the Lakers,
and now you're like, okay, well that was kind of
out of the box as well, because we didn't think
Dan Hurley was willing to take this job. It was

(13:42):
different when James Brego and Sam Cassell's name were thrown about. Okay,
you know, current assistants one has head coaching experience, one's
a former player. Let's check out all those boxes. But this, like,
if they don't land Dan Hurley for whatever he wants,
the Lakers I think have enormous egg on their face

(14:02):
with all of this.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Yeah. I mean, look, I agree that the JJ wood
is outside of the box, but so is so is Danny. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
I know, that's my point because that was the uniqueness
of JJ Reddick. Just like with you, Doug, and people
don't understand your history of basketball and how often you're
in gyms and everybody you know, same thing with JJ Reddick.
But the JJ Reddick thing isn't necessarily even new to
the NBA. We've seen Steve Nash, We've seen other guys
take the job. But now if you're thinking, well, gosh,

(14:33):
if we could get Danny Hurley, the JJ Reddick hire
doesn't seem a special and unique and one that you
can convince yourself that is different and that can work
if you strike out on that.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
It's a good point. This is not the count of
that point. This is maybe to further the Dan Hurley
thing would be. It does feel like those are two
very different plans, right, And here's what I mean, the
JJ Reddick hire is a It feels like a Lebron
higher right, Yes, agree, Like I need a guy who

(15:05):
I can relate to, who's sort of contemporary. He's just
smart enough to figure out how to make some adjustments
and he'll learn how to coach on the fly and
work together on this thing for a couple of years
and then we're gone. Now. The supposed report is that
Lebron when they asked him about coach at coaching, like
he let it be known. Hey, don't worry about me,

(15:26):
you know, I'm not gonna be here forever. Worry about
somebody who can coach Anthony Davis and somebody who can
coach long term, long term. So you do wonder if
Lebron liked the idea of JJ Reddick then he stopped
and thought about it, like, yeah, I don't know. I
don't know, because Lebron usually is very passive, aggressive, doesn't

(15:47):
let anybody know. Everybody just tries to please him without
knowing what he wants. So that part is weird. But
I feel like the Lakers, this might be and I
don't know if Danny is the right fit, but it
might be the right idea for what they truly need,
which is somebody to change and shake up kind of
the culture of what they've done. I mean, like, let's

(16:08):
look at the hires they've had recently. Luke Walton, no
head coaching experience, and their roster wasn't very good. And
you know what, he had one year with Lebron, but
Lebron was hurt second half of the season. They had
Luke Walton, then they had Frank. They did win a title,
but I think the Russell Westbrook and the changing of
the personnel after winning the championship really hurt them. And

(16:29):
then Darvin Ham. So you've had two inexperienced head coaches
but inexperienced NBA guys, and then you had one experienced
and championship coach but NBA caliber championship call. He had
won a championship, but he at least been to the
Eastern Conference finals. In Frank, that worked out the best.
This is a very different one, but it feels like
it's the Lakers want to be good. It's a weird one. Yeah,

(16:53):
Like Danny feels like he does feel like and this
is where I'll give a colin a tip of the cap.
He feels like he fits the nixt morning fits the Lakers.
But I do like the idea of Danny, the idea
of a guy who is completely energized into coaching and
is demanding. It's just a weird fit for the Lakers.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
I think when you were speaking with Middelkoff earlier, it
was my thinking. And this is why I think Hurley
is interested. As you said, number one, it's the Lakers.
I even said on my Sunday show this past week,
is the Celtics are in the NBA Finals. In talking
about brands, and it's something we've talked about on the show,
the Lakers and the number one brand in the NBA.

(17:35):
There's no doubt about it. The Lakers story yesterday overshadowed
everything about Game one of the NBA Finals last night
because it's the Lakers. In add Danny Hurley's name absolutely
with it. Number two. Instead of being the Lakers, it's
Lebron James. Just to have that opportunity to be able
to do so, I think would be would be great.
And even if it's a headache, you can say, hey,

(17:58):
I had a chance to coach Lebron James, who, at
some point, you know, maybe consider the greatest of all
time as we get down the road. But the other
factor is Doug, is if it doesn't work out with
the Lakers, how many college programs are going to be
lining up to sign Dan Hurley?

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Correct? You know, look, there's no loss here. Correct, there's
no lass here. He can take a chance with the Lakers.
He'll make life changing money where he'll never truly have
to work again. He can say he coached high school,
college and pro, he coached the greatest or one of
the greatest players of all time. And if it doesn't
work out in the NBA, every college team is going

(18:32):
to want him back. Yeah, right, like if Billy Donovan,
despite the fact that he's told people he doesn't want
to coach college, if he wanted to coach college, he'd
be the head coach Kentucky right now. You know, it's
a no lose. And the other part to remember is
it's not like he has his whole team back at Yukon. Yeah,

(18:52):
he has really one guy back at most he didn't
go to Yukon. There's not does he love you kind
I'm sure it's been it's been a great marriage, But
let's let's not act like he grew up dreaming of
coaching a Yukon and so yeah, it just makes sense
to me. And I think the I remember sitting with

(19:16):
Mark Few and I Few. He is a guy that
doesn't have regrets much, and I'm sure now he probably
look at this differently, but he told me one time.
I think it's when Indiana hired Kelvin Sampson that he said,
I can't believe I turned down Indiana. They had a
they had an airplane on the runway ready to go.
All I had to do is get on it. And
it was done Indiana and I turned it.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Down and I was I'm sorry I missed it, Mark,
you know.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
And obviously that was ages ago. That was way before
they made two final fours and they've become, you know,
a national name and a national brand, a national power.
But you know, it's like, look, you're you're gonna sit there.
And this is what what got me, frankly was CBS
was I was watching the Final four and uh, I

(20:07):
was asked, kick, are you gonna be able to watch
the Final four ever? Again, knowing you could have been
sitting on that desk, and I was like, no, I can't, No,
I can't. Now there were pitfalls to it it wasn't perfect,
and you know, I could have been better, They could
have been better. Whatever wasn't the dreamiest of scenarios. Maybe
where you know, I look back and man, I could

(20:28):
still be there and whatever. But I did take that chance.
And I know how my brain and heart is wired,
and I would guess that. You know, look, timing is
is obviously everything. Remember Danny's Sun got to dribble the
ball out for the National championship last year. That did
happen for me last year with the Green Bay job.

(20:53):
I don't know if the timing was right with my
daughter's still gonna be seniors in high school. But I
do know that when I was asked this year, it
wasn't there. There's no hesitation, and I knew all that
was at sake and I said yes. So I do
wonder if Danny, when he when he was first asked,
was like yes, and everything has fallen from them, So
we'll see.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
I'll tell you too if for as I think warmly
this has been received by Lakers fans. If you just
go into an NCAA tournament, let's say Yukon loses in
the second round, you don't have that Pizzaz anymore as much.
Still you're Dan Hurley. Still you're there, two national championships,
But you want to talk about a news item that

(21:31):
seems to be university loved by everyone in the fan base,
Like this is striking while the iron is at the
absolute hottest. And I'm not saying that the opportunity wouldn't
come down again, but if the Lakers are hiring a coach,
you'd have to expect them to be around for at
least two more seasons, and a lot can change for
Danny Hurley. And if he wanted to be the Lakers

(21:53):
coach in twenty twenty six or twenty twenty seven, maybe
there's not as much behind his name as there is
right now like it is. I haven't read a bad
thing on social media from any Laker fans about the
possible hiring of it.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Well, yeah, the interesting part is probably like had not
had the JJ Reddick thing not gotten out first, I
wonder if it would have been the same, right because
now they go well compared to JJ Redick, Like, holy caw,
this guy's John R. Wooden.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Did you hear Reddick early? Because I was in for you.
Did you hear him on Gojo and Golic when they
asked him about his plans.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
He made it seem like it was a dundee.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
Yeah, we have it. Here's the audience. So this is
what makes the whole situation even more crazy after what
Reddick said earlier this week.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
Right now is on calling the NBA Finals. I am
so fortunate that I'm in this position and I get
to call these finals with Doris and Mike. My day
to day right now is consumed with calling games the
nineteen different podcasts. I feel like I have my obligations

(22:57):
to all of our partners, so my focus is on
the NBA Finals. I will I will say that in
terms of shams that will be addressed once the season
is over.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
So I'll just say that.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
Yeah, it feels like he thought he had the job.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
Yeah, yes, maybe Rich preliminary.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
That's got a feel that's that does not feel I
guarantee that. I like, Look, here's the I know JJ
a little bit, and I told you guys like I'm
not I wouldn't be who I'm the last person to
be against against the job, considering how I got my job.
I will say that them o on duke guys, and
they're not all this way it's not fair. But they're

(23:45):
very confident to the point of most people think they're
super arrogant. Right, All the Duke guys are like, man,
they just think they invented the damn game of basketball.
And I mean, JJ does have a way of And look,
I can come across that way too. I'm not gonna
lie to you like I can come across like because
I do know more basketball on time at times on television,

(24:06):
the people I'm talking to, it's a hard thing. Like,
you don't want to sound condescending. JJ can come across
as condescending in that one boy, did he sound confident
to the point of being arrogant. We'll address that when
the season's over. Excuse me, Okay, Okay, Dave, We'll keep
an eye on that. I just can you imagine waking

(24:29):
up to that phone call, because I know there was somebody.
I don't think it wasn't JJ. There were some people
that were reaching out to potential assistant coaches and looking
at staffing possibilities for JJ. That's why I thought it
was gonna happen. Imagine waking up yesterday thinking like, I'm
gonna call my first NBA Finals and then I'm gonna

(24:51):
be the coach to the Lakers and look at your
phone like, wait what I thought she was going to
problem with me? Ryan? If you're the head coach of Yukon,
you went back to back national titles, you kind of
have keys of the kingdom. You've turned down Kentucky. Do
you take the Laker job or do you go back?
Do you come?

Speaker 4 (25:10):
I would take the Laker job. It's as you've been
saying the whole time, it's the Lakers. That brand is undeniable.
I would take it.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
The one thing about the Lakers is outside of players,
they are seen to be cheap. They are cheap, so
players they take care of some of the ancillary support
staff they do not. But it's uh, it's really really interesting,
really interesting. All right, what about you, Chris Prophet? What

(25:42):
would you do?

Speaker 6 (25:43):
I know, I had some reservations yesterday. I I'm still
gonna go with my arena analogy. You know, some rock
bands they really want to play, you know, giant arenas,
and they realize the audience isn't there, and they go
back to the smaller venues and feel right at home.
I see the appeal the Lakers. I understand the allure

(26:04):
of that job, but I think I think, I think
staying at Yukon is probably the right choice. They may
not be able to pay you that much, but if
you can keep stacking up national titles, like your legacy
is going.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
To be saying him plenty, I mean, like dollars a
year or whatever in stores Connecticut is plenty of money. Yeah,
you know, it's it's I don't think it's a financial issue,
although they can obviously the Lakers, there's no salary cap
to coaches. You know, if you want to, you can
blow somebody out of the water financially.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
And he's he's turned down Kentucky before, so clearly, like
I mean, you're turning down the deep pockets of Kentucky.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Like well, the allure to the NBA for basketball people
is it's just basketball. Yes, and while people will say yes,
but you're managing egos and like fine, but honestly, all basketball,
you're managing on some level egos. At least these egos
are supported by the fact that they're the best players
in the world. So, I you know, I don't know

(27:00):
how tedious the portal has been, how tedious the other
ancillary things are, but there's no booster meetings. There's no collective,
there's no money to raise, there's no nothing. There's just basketball.
And I think that and the fact that it's the Lakers.

Speaker 6 (27:16):
And that is Lebron James for the time being too,
which may or not be a plus or minus depending.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
On how I think it's a you know, look, obviously
people that have experienced it, it's not easy. But I
have friends that have coached Lebron and they're like, look,
if you're prepared and engaged like he's he wants to be,
he still wants to win. Yeah, and he will listen.
He wants to be coached.

Speaker 6 (27:39):
And it seems like Dan would be that name that
he would respect too. Sure, that's that's not off the
bottom of the pile. This is Dan Hurley. This is
a national, a national champion. Yeah. I think I think
you'd get the buy in from from Lebron for sure.

Speaker 1 (27:51):

(28:12):
sixty eight where every download podcast. You can see him
on Stadium Sports as well. Jeff, what's your reaction to
the news.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
I was shocked, like everybody. I mean I just saw it.
Then a couple of weeks ago in India, I've been
texted with him and nothing, nothing, So I was I
was surprised because again, I mean, Tom's just put out
the three couple of days ago that and everybody kind
of thought it was just JJ Reddick and that's why
nothing had been done right. They had to wait for
the NBA Finals to finish, for JJ to finish doing

(28:42):
his job, and then they were going to announce JJ
Reddick is the next head coach of the Lakers. And yeah,
this one's a little bit shocking, only because I've always said, Doug,
I don't know if Dan Hurley translates to the NBA,
and not because of the x's and oh's. I mean
he's terrific at that, we know that, but more because

(29:04):
of the ego involved and the fact that ken NBA
guys handled Dan Hurley. You know, like again, the college game,
it's all about the players in the in the in
the college game, it's all about the coaches. In the
NBA game, it's all about the players. I just don't know,
Like Brad Stevens worked right, no ego, low key all
that he worked for a while in the NBA. I

(29:26):
don't know if Dan, and again I respect the hell
out of Dan, I don't know if he's gonna be
able to change enough to whereas he's gonna be able
to coach these guys the way he wants to coach them.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
See my my perception of Dan at Yukon, especially recently
is yes, he coaches some hard, but he's not a
crazy person. You know, he's not crazy for the the.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Part Doug is the part with the fans, in the
in the in the officials like that part of it.
He's going to have to calm down, like he can't
be doing some of this off of course, to Tony Brothers.
Tony Brothers will honestly toss him out of the game
in about three minutes.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, look, I don't think there's
any doubt that he's going to have to tone that down.
Can he Can he handle a groom full of men?
Can he is Danny? Is Danny over himself enough to
where he can make it about them not about him?
That's the that's the biggest question. I think the answer

(30:29):
is yes.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
But I'm part man. He's smart dude. And again, you
get him off the court. You know this, Doug Like,
is there a better guy to deal with like off
the court in terms of just having fun like like
Lebron will love him. They love Dan Hurley off the
court because you can, you can screw around him, you
can have fun with him. You can you know, you

(30:52):
can rip on him, He'll rip on on your back
all that, you know. I just think, you know some
of that stick has he's got to tone it down.
And the other part, for you know, the problem is
no matter who that is going to get that job,
Doug Like, I just don't know how you can succeed
with a forty year old Lebron. But you're going to
worry about whether he's going to be healthy enough to

(31:13):
make it through the year. At some point, his body's
probably going to fail him. And Anthony Davis, whose body
I know it's been better the last couple of years,
but whose body isn't exactly you know, it's failed him
plenty over the years, and then you've got a bunch
of just role players. So but but haven't said all that.
If I'm Dan Hurly, I take a shot off this thing,
I absolutely take a shot.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
I would two wig the Lakers. You've won two titles
and you have basically a whole new team for next year.
So it's not like he's leaving these kids. Adler's caravan
is the one kid He's like, man, that would really
suit you. And I'm and I'm guessing though, that they
probably keep it in that in that same family of
all those guys on the bench.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Now, I'm not so sure. I'm not so sure of that.
I was with you this morning on that I'm not
so sure that they're going to keep it in the
family just to keep the players.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Okay, I think would Kimmani get it? Or who would
have the best shot Kimani I'm just telling you, I
don't I don't know, I understand, I understand. Who of
those two do you think would have the better shot?

Speaker 2 (32:18):
Kim on Hee would have the better shot? For sure,
he's the associate. He's been with Dan longer. Kimanie Young
would be to me, if you're going to keep it
in house. But listen, if I'm a betting man, I'm saying,
I'm now thinking they're probably not going to keep it
in house. If I had to guess, who.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Would it be? Who the news the first call that
that that would make sense.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
So my first call is Bruce Pearl. That's my first call,
New England guy, got the personality, got the fight. Now,
I don't know how old's Bruce? Now? What's Bruce sixty three?
That's the only the only worry, right, the only worry
is number one? How much does Bruce have left in

(33:03):
the tank to do this? Through David Bennett the ad
you don't want to have to make another higher in
three years, you don't really And I don't know if
Bruce has got more than three or five left to
do this. And does Bruce really want to come up
to yukont and deal with that? Like he's got a
good thing going at Auburn, he's got a son there.
I don't know if you can get Steven the job

(33:23):
at Auburn yet, I'm not sure the deal he's not
written in the contract is the next head coach yet,
maybe he can use it as leverage. Bruce would be
one Sean Miller one.

Speaker 5 (33:36):
B for me.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Okay, I don't know if they go to Sean Miller up,
but okay, who else?

Speaker 2 (33:46):
I mean, I can't come up with other names. I
don't know, but there aren't a lot because most of
these guys Nato. It's his bio to seventeen million. Scott
Drew is not going from Baylor to Stories. We know
that there's no shot of that one. You know, Billy
Donovan last jacked. He's still employed, and uh what do
you got?

Speaker 1 (34:06):
What about? Uh? What about Speedy Claxton?

Speaker 2 (34:10):
Oh, I mean it's a jump, like you're not winning. Yeah,
I mean I love Speedy, but that's a jump. That's
a I mean, you're gonna go speeding.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
You might as Holloway, Yeah, that's the other one.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Yeah. Like Shaheen would be good. I like Sehen. Sehen's
done a good job. He'd be solid. You know, again, it.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
Would be hard to leave your alma mater and go
in conference. I don't think it's incredibly hard to leave
your own mater because they're not as well funded, but
in conference that could be yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
Harder, harder, harder, but you're gonna be.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
My thought. My thought is though that that Danny and look,
Danny is a bit of a force of nature, but
Danny was it was like he was he did well
at Rhode Island. He wasn't killing the world at Rhode Island,
but it was more here's a Northeast guy, he's got
that edge to him. Form player in the Big East
gets it, like I think Shaheen and Speedy are those
two types of guys that that they that they could

(35:01):
circle in on. Obviously it would be completely different than
how Danny's done it, but they've both both been very
successful in their own right.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Totally, totally. I just think those are those are second tier.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Sure, sure, but you're also doing they go after the
name thing, right, Bruce is a name, Bruce's a right, whereas.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Don't you have to? Don't you?

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Did they go after a name when they hired Danny
They couldn't.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
There were the American Athletic Association.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
I understand, I understand, I get, I get that it's
different now, but you know, the top.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Five job again it is now. Dan Hurley has elevated
this thing where there probably aren't five more sought after
jobs in America right now? Now again, follow do.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
You want to now? Do you want to follow a
guy who went back to back national titles?

Speaker 2 (35:47):
I mean you got to find the right guy, right
like the right personality has the guy who's been again
at Auburn at Tennessee.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
Oh no, No, if you get Bruce, you get Bruce
because he's gonna he's he gets everybody into it. I
just don't know Bruce, if that's what he wants to do.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Well, you can win a title at you cunt? Can
you win a title at Auburn? I mean you've got
to the final four?

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Why can't you win a title at Auburn?

Speaker 2 (36:14):
I'm asking you. I'm saying it's harder, it's harder to win.
But could you Yes? This is always your thing when
I asked you, right like, can can they? Yes? They can?
Will they? I don't think so?

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Fair? Fair? No, it's it's a it's a fair point.
Real Quickly's Celtics MAVs tonight. Jeff Goodman joining us here
on the Doug Otleb Show on Fox Sports Radio. What's
your level of faith that Jason Tatum can play to
the top level of his game in this series.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Eleven of ten, eleven of ten. I'm not worried about
him at all at all. Seriously, I'm not worried about
Jason Tatum at all. I'm more worried about Jayalen Brown.
Although I will say this, it's going to be really
interesting to see who Derek Jones is going to be
on Who Because Derek Jones is an elite defender, right elite?
So do you throw him on you start him on Tatum?

(37:12):
I assume you start PJ. Washington on Tatum, you start
Derek Jones on Jalen Brown. Jalen Brown hasn't seen anybody
even bad in the postseason this year, so that's going
to be the interesting one to me is Jalen Brown.
Does he continue his play from last series? If he does,
this is a rap. There's no way Dallas beats Boston

(37:35):
if Jalen Brown plays the way he did last series.
I don't worry about Tatum. The thing with Tatum that
everybody needs to get over is the dude just makes
the right play so often now Boston fans are never
happy with what he does right. And a couple of
years ago, is Ah he took bad shots, didn't pass
the ball enough, didn't find his teammates. Now that's all

(37:57):
he does. And they yelled at him for not being
as assertive. So he'll shoot the ball better from three.
But Jason Tata, I think the Celtics win this and
seven and Tatum wins m VP and shown his all
round game and condescending Kyrie. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
Well, you're just you're still bitter about Kyrie. Still better,
playing great.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
He is, Hey, Doug dog, I'm gonna give him the
credit he deserves. He actually guards now, he like he
looked like for years he didn't guard anybody.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
No, no, but now he al, says Derek Lively and
Gafford behind him. So that that helps you, as that
helps you as well. Good, all right, Well we'll probably
touch basically again. If this happens, it becomes a real thing,
but right now, it's just preliminary stages. Thanks for our guest.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
That's good man, that's such.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
By the way, Jeff could have been not calling me, coach.
What's the deal? You good? Call our best guys. I'm
kidding
