Speaker 2 (00:53):
It should be.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
If you want to crown them, crown them. But it
does feel more and more like the The Boston Celtics
are gonna be NBA champions as last night they took
a three games to none lead. I'm gonna give credit
to I'll give credit to Jason Stewart, our Steam producer,
because he likes to say saying. It's not like he

(01:18):
invented the saying, but he does at least say this
quite often, and Buyer does as well, which these two
things can be true. Oftentimes we make statements. Oftentimes we
make statements as if we make statements as if if

(01:40):
you say one thing, well everything has to go in
line with that one thing. For example, Luka Doncik is
not a particularly good defensive player, and the Boston Celtics
were picking on that, have been picking on that all series.
On the other hand, you can also point out that
here's two other things that are true. One, some of

(02:00):
the way in which he plays when guys get by
him is by design. What yeah, it's by design, I'll
share with eighty a second. But here's the other thing
is the refs can still butcher fouls and butcher calls
at the end of the game, like we want you
to call the game. We don't want you to we
don't want you to hand the game to the Dallas Mavericks.

(02:22):
On the other hand, like what are we actually doing?
What in the actual flip and I think you know
what I mean. But that way, the last two fouls
on Luka Doncik, who is probably inarguably the best all
around offensive player in the game. We're calling those fouls

(02:44):
in the NBA Finals, Like, what is going on? And
it's not because and I know we had this discussion
about it's like the Kaitlin Clark thing, Right, Kaitlyn Clark
shouldn't be on on the women's US national team just
because she's super popular. Like she's actually really really good.

(03:06):
Is she said the State of Is she definitely one
of the top ten, top twelve, top fifteen players in
the women's game. I mean, I'm like, who am I like?
None of us actually, even Sam Kinsel, who's watched every
game that she's played at Kinsley, Sorry, every game she's
played at Iowa this year, every game in the WNBA. Again,
Like Sam, I'll ask you, have you watched any other
team play outside of when they play against the Fever.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
I've watched a little bit of the Aces because they
also have an Iowa player, Kate Martin, who's been done
really well as a rookie.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
But other than a great.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Great story, Okay, right, so you can't even you've done
a deep dive into the WNBA because of your Iowa background.
That's why he's known as Iowa Sam, and you can't
really give perspective, so none of us really know she's
one of the top twelve players. But it doesn't matter.
She's good enough and she'll grow the game. Right, Okay,

(04:00):
let me use that argument and move it over to Luca.
I don't I don't. I don't want him to get
away with murder. I don't want you to give the
game to the Mavericks. But it's pretty obvious that he's
the best player for the Mavericks, and within reason, you
want him on the floor at the end of a game, right,

(04:25):
And unless he blatantly fouled on his fifth and sixth foul,
what are we doing? And oh yeah, by the way,
did it go in concert with the way the game
was officiated? This is a big thing. We talk about,
consistency with players, consistency with officiating. No, it was a
really physical game. So you called two times he comes together,

(04:49):
both with Jalen Brown, both the Jaylen Brown's left hand.
Who knew he could dribble with that hand, and we
called two fouls there, which takes the best offensive player
likely in the NBA and definitely the Dallas Mavericks away
from a game and shocker, the Dallas Mavericks end up losing.
Here's Luca when asked about the officiating after the game. Luca,

(05:12):
what did you think of the whistles.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
That would against you in the fourth quarter?

Speaker 5 (05:16):
I mean, no, I don't know. We couldn't play physical,
so I no, I don't want to say nothing, but
you know, six fallow in the NBA Finals. Basically I'm
like this, come on, man, better than that.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
I could not possibly agree more, couldn't possibly agree more. Okay, again,
here's Luca.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
Every time they joyed, basically call a fall So I
tried to be better.

Speaker 6 (05:55):
So I gotta get.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Better, Gotta get better. Here's Jason Kidd when asked about
the officiating.

Speaker 7 (06:03):
Luca's obviously dealing with a bunch of injuries. He has
such an intense workload on the offensive side of the ball.
What more would you like to see from him on
the defensive side of things? When he's the one that
Boston's hunting and all these switches and they're putting him
in off ball actions and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
Yeah, he's he's he has definitely got a bullseye on
his chest, and so he's got to be able to
guard and understand that we're there to protect him and
help him if he does get beat But again, he's
carrying a load offensively, and they are putting him in

(06:39):
every pick and roll and io, and so he's got
to be able to play the game where he can
rest on offense and let others, do you know, carry
the load.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
It's a really really smart answer and a really accurate answer.
There's part two that he didn't share. I'll get to
that in a second. So a lot of people we're
talking about what Brian Windhors had to say, because Wendy's
a NBA insider, I'll share my first thought. My first
thought is this is actually not under the purview of
Brian Windhorse. You're allowed to have your opinion, but generally

(07:14):
as an insider, you don't share it. You don't share it. Okay,
we'll talk about that more in a second. Here's what
he had to say on Scott Van Pelt about Luca.
Luca and Kyrie combined for actually more than Tate Brown did,
but Luca fowls out late. I just wonder your reaction
to that whole sequence.

Speaker 8 (07:36):
Yeah, I thought it was perfect that Luca fell onto
the ground there in an unacceptable position to put himself
in with four minutes left with five fouls and then
immediately looks at the bench and says, you better bleeping
challenge it, as if it's the bench's fault that he
just made a terrible play. I'm standing here in the
Mavericks tunnel over there as the Celtics tunnel.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
That's where the winners are.

Speaker 8 (07:55):
If Lucas ever going to be a winner coming out
of this tunnel here, he is going to have to
use this what's happened in this finals as a learning experience.
His defensive performance is unacceptable. He is a hole on
the court. The Celtics are attacking him. They are ahead
in this series because they have attacked him defensively. And
you've got a situation here where Lucas complaining about the officiating.
They have begged him, they have talked with him, they

(08:17):
have pleaded with him. He is costing his team because
of how he treats the officials. He's a brilliant player,
he does so many things well. They are here because
how he did. His performance in this game is unacceptable
and the reason why the Mavericks are not going to win.
He's got to get over this and the fact that
he came out after the game and blame the officials
showed me he's nowhere close yet. So maybe over the
summer somebody will get to him, because nobody with the

(08:39):
Mavericks or anybody else in his life has And that's
where the Mavericks are at this point. They're never going
to get to this tunnel with the trophy. If he
doesn't improve those aspects of his game.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
What I'll leave it right there. I appreciate this is
one of those both of these things can be true.
He has to get better, he has to complain less,
he has to get into better physical condition. But the
officiating was crap. Okay, Like, I don't know what he's
talking about. Him falling down. It was a terrible call.
It's a very simple no call, very simple no call.

(09:12):
Jalen Brown attacks him, drives into his body, Luca was
the ruling was he had an established legal guarding position.
That's crap. He's what's called the primary defender, okay. And
when you're the primary defender, when you are guarding the
guy on the ball, you're actually allowed to move loudly
and still it be an offensive foul if the offensive
player creates the contact. But more than anything, why are

(09:35):
we calling a foul there? And why are you calling
a foul down in the short corner on a post
uff for Jalen Brown when again Jalen Brown creates the contact.
That's bad officiating. Wendy can be right about Luca. And
by the way, Wendy's completely dismissing the fact that he
has been a winner. Okay, you may not value winning

(09:57):
the European Championships or value winning a FOBA championship. He
has been a winner, and he's also elevated, as he
pointed out, the Dallas Mavericks two heights beyond anybody's reasonable expectations.
Nobody thought they were an NBA Finals team. So I
agree with you. He's got to complain less. He's gotten
to get a better shape, he's got to buy indefensively. Now,

(10:17):
there's one other part to it which people are not
really taking into account, which is a good portion of
how the Celtics are able to beat the Mavericks is
because they don't play with the traditional center. So Derek
Lively is there as a backstop, right and the way

(10:37):
in which Dallas's defense design is they want Luca to
stay in front and pressure as much as they can,
and when he gets by, then he goes and switches
and fly switches and picks up somebody and Lively has
got the rim. So you got to take mid range
jump shots, which is what they want you to take
over the extended arm of Gafford or Lively. That's by design.

(10:59):
The difference with this. Celtics says they don't have a
traditional center. They don't have anybody playing in the dunker.
They don't even have anybody rolling right. They don't. They
just spread you out and go five wide, and they
run a couple actions and they take them and wherever
the help comes from, that's where the ball goes. So

(11:20):
there's a reality to some of this is matchup based.
And Lively got caught on a switch. It wasn't Luca
and a really big bucket was Drew Holiday driving the
left baseline throwing a beautiful left handed pass. I think
I'm trying to think who it was to. It wasn't
to Peyton Pritchard. I think it was to Derek White,

(11:41):
who had a gigantic three. That was because Derek Lively
was guarded, got a switch with with Derek White Hey
and he came to help on the drive. Why do
he come to help on the drive, because that's his role.
He's a rimp protector, shop blocker, and he left his man,
and his man ends up the shot in a beautiful pass. Again,

(12:01):
this is all kind of by design. Part of that
comes back to that that's not really Wendy's purview. He's
not really an analyst. He doesn't totally understand even if
he does understand that lucas kind of a cone at
times defensively. So he's not wrong that Luca's got to
get better. He's not wrong that the complaining is tiresome,
but the complaining can't be the reason that they make

(12:21):
those two calls. Like, look, we all look back and
say the San Antonio Spurs were one of the great
teams the last twenty five years and they won was
it five NBA titles. Nobody bitched and moan more than
San Antonio Spurs. They were completely obnoxious. I mean, Tim
Duncan has yet to actually accept the fact that he
committed a foul. And don't get me started on Antony

(12:43):
Parker and of course Mona Genobli, who I love. I
think up until Luca was the most influential and probably
best all around foreign born player. Okay, yes, and I
do a. I know what we're clown a Keem and
Dirk Novitsky. I think Manu was he changed the sport
in many ways. But they complained all the time, and

(13:06):
no one ever said they didn't get a call in
the finals because they complained all the time. And the
other part to it is when Luca does voul you watch,
he puts his hands up. Yeah, he complains. He's definitely
flamboyant and has like a running conversation with everybody. That's
how he plays. It's entertaining, and he doesn't care if
you boo. He doesn't care if you do the tears thing.

(13:26):
And he's got to get back on defense when he
doesn't get a call. There's things he's got to clean up.
But let's not act like because you have to clean
those things up, that's okay for those officials to make
those two horrendous calls. So that's where these two things
can be true. Caitlin Clark might not be one of

(13:47):
the top fifteen or even twenty players in the WNBA,
I don't know, okay, but she belongs on that team
because she's actually good enough, and she's going to change
dramatically how we perceive women's basketball. Luka, Doncik has to
clean up a lot of stuff in his game. Gotta
clean up, Gotta clean up some of the complaining, Gotta

(14:07):
clean up the body stuff, right, Gotta be in better shape.
I gotta be in better shape, Gotta be better defensively.
And oh yeah, by the way, you gotta complain less.
That can be true, but it also be true that
was just atrocious officiating at the end of a hard fought,

(14:27):
incredibly entertaining NBA Finals game.

Speaker 9 (14:31):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Let Express Employment Professionals
help you hire your next pro. Forget about posting jobs
and sifting through resumes interviews with unqualified applicants. Move up
to the pros. Go to expresspros dot comfind location near you.
That's Expresspros dot com. It's down time. I'm the Express
Pro Pro of the Week. The Pro of the Week

(15:02):
is Jason Tatum, who led the Celtics in scoring last
night with thirty one points, the Celtics were one went
away from their eighteenth NBA title. Congrats Jason Tatum being
our Express pros Pro of the week. There's a report
out there that JJ Reddick has set the interview for
the Lakers job this weekend. Huh did you notice that

(15:28):
the JJ, even in that last foul call he offered
zero paill. Well, that's a bang bang play. Thanks JJ.
That was interesting. Look here's the thing, and I again,
a lot of this is very very relatable, very relatable.

(15:49):
A lot of people thought JJ was going to get
the job, and then they turned her attention to Danny
Hurley and we'll play for you later on some of
the things that Danny Hurley had to say with Colin
Cowhert earlier today. And there's this thought that, well, JJ Reddick,
he's not gonna want the Laker job now because they
went after Danny Hurley. Why not? I mean, again, completely

(16:12):
different financial scale. Last year I was a finalist for
Green Bay. They hired Sundance Wicks. You have two options.
You can pout about it or feel like they chose
somebody instead of a bee, or he said they're going
like all right, if he gets it. Hope he does great,
and if he doesn't, I'd still I mean, what has

(16:36):
changed about the Laker job between now and last week
that they went after Danny Hurley?

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (16:42):
If anything, they showed you that if they want to,
they can pay seventy million dollars over six years now.
They probably won't get there for JJ, but don't don't
let it get twisted. If I'm JJ's agent, that helped
me a whole great deal, like do you want to
coach the are not? Well? I wanted to, and then

(17:02):
they wanted to hire somebody else instead of me, Like, Okay,
do you want the job or not? I don't really
see the difference. I don't. The only difference is the
Lakers have shown that if they're pushed to it, they
could get to seventy million dollars over six years.

Speaker 10 (17:21):
Now.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
They probably won't get there for him, but they'll definitely
get higher than they were last week. Stuck got leap
show here on Fox Sports Radio. I'm excited, by the
way about this story with the Big Big twelve potentially
selling their naming rights. Have I ever told you this
buyer my idea for naming rights of an airport.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
I think it does sound familiar.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Okay, so this is just that again as a pie
in the sky idea. Okay, but this is trademark patent Penning,
patent penning, Penny Penning. But okay, any time people give
away the West, give the weather report on radio or
on TV, don't they always do the airport? Right?

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:00):
So what if you know, cities are trying to raise money,
they you know, they need to pay for all this
different stuff, right, That's why they legalize gambling, legalize weed. Right,
and you run out of things to legalize an attacks
and you're like, what if you got the naming rights
for example, lax you know, uh, what if it was
sleep the weather out at Sleep number Los Angeles International Airport? Right,

(18:27):
doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but work with me here,
what would the naming rights be to something like that?

Speaker 2 (18:35):
You could just I'm I'm flying into Pepsi and people
would know that airport.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
And all these corporations they like they want to. The
reason they do the arenas is like that's our town,
we you know, I mean, think about it, right.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
I booked my wrong flight. I flew to diet Pepsi
instead of regular PEPSI, Well, you'd still have.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
You'd still have the lax or sfo or s NA.
By the way, the Duke of the Duke, right, Little
John Wayne Airport the Duke Duke's greatest airport in the world.
But what if you sold the naming rights to it?

Speaker 2 (19:14):
That's actually not a bad idea.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
I got Dan to say, it's not a bad idea.
Do you guys have any idea? How hard that is?
I have a lot of bad ideas, and Dan said,
that's not one of them. Pretty fired up about it?
Can we play his his theme music? Shall we?

Speaker 9 (19:29):
Can?

Speaker 6 (19:29):
We?

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Can we do that? For Mark Medina, I'd appreciate stuck
ottlib show Fox Sports Radio. When you hear that music,
it's Mark Madeina our Fox Sports Radio NBA Insider, Funky
Cole Madina himself. Mark, do you want to share any
opinion pieces on Luca don Chicks defense? Why he that

(19:52):
Brian Wenthorse is like, I'm gonna beat insider, but right
now'm gonna be an analyst and tell you why why
he didn't win?

Speaker 6 (19:57):
Uh?

Speaker 10 (19:59):
It was wild John because Luca ironically put them in
a position to win, as he often does, but then
he also put them in a position to lose, and
it was disappointing because Luca, relatively speaking's improved on defense.
He's not all NBA defense, but he's more willing. He's
improved relatively without complain after at least every call with

(20:19):
the refs. But now in Game three, we just saw
it dial back several steps and hence their face and
elimination down three.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Now you've seen a lot of playoff games, though, like
the best player on a team with a couple of
collision plays in the fourth quarter. I can't recall, Like
I watched a lot of basketball, and I'm not gonna
say never, but I would always I remember, you know,
like I can't remember Michael Jordan fowling out. I'm not

(20:49):
saying Luca is Michael Jordan. I can't remember Magic, I
can't remember Bird, I can't remember Kareem. I can't remember
those guys filing out.

Speaker 10 (20:55):
Yeah. Well, to be clear, dog, I thought his sixth
found most notably, it was the wrong call. I was
also disappointed that they challenged and looked at again and
still decided it was the sixth South. But the thing
that I have problem with with Luca is that whether
he's right or wrong. The constant complaining sucks a lot
of energy out of the team, you know, and for

(21:16):
someone that's carrying the team, there is a correlation where
he's in really strong first three quorders, not as effective
in the fourth quarter so far this series. And the
second part is it affects the rest of the team.
They seem more focused on trying to have Lucas back
and be upset with the officials and trying to elevate
their play, and I think it all ties together. You know,

(21:38):
obviously you're not as good of a team if Lucas
found the floor. But you know, even with Kyrie raising
his game a little bit last night, they weren't able
to hold the fourth down and he was out.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Stut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Trader, that's the
voice of Mark Medina. What does it say about the
Celtics that they're able to do this even without Christas.

Speaker 10 (22:01):
It says that they're way too deep of a team
and they have continuity. It's interesting, Doug. I thought that
Chriss Porzingis would have been like a significant game changer,
and he is significant. But talking to a few assistant
coaches from other teams last week, they felt that even
when you account for Porzingis's four spacing and passing and
just additional minutes less pressure off of Tatum and Jalen Brown,

(22:25):
that they are so deep that they felt the Celics
are winning with or without him. And that's not to
say it's going to be just as easy or just
as challenging. But they have Jason Tatum who can afford
to not shoot always efficiently. They have Jalen Brown who
has improved as both a shooter and playmaker. I think
Drew Holliday has really been the key difference maker because

(22:47):
he's much more talented than an X factor. He's been
an All Star, he's won a championship in twenty twelve.
But he does literally every single thing on the court
that he'd want in both a star player and a
role player with the intangibles. So they just have too
much connude, too much depth that I think Dallas they
could win a game or two, but it seems very

(23:10):
clear that the separation between both teams chemistry, as well
as their ability to have reinforcements when a star player
isn't bringing their best stuff is pretty night and uck.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
Yeah, I think it's interesting, you know, Drew Hollidy made
I thought the two biggest plays of the game, after
Luca fould out where he flopped there was a flop
on the PJ. Washington screen. It was a bad call,
and then he drove to the baseline made a beautiful
left hand pass to Derek White who hit a three
when it was I think like a two point game
at the time. It's really interesting on how people are

(23:42):
starting to come around to like, hey, you know, you
can be a great basketball player and win championships without
averaging twenty a eight. And that's who Drew Holliday is.

Speaker 10 (23:51):
Yeah, look, Doug, I'm with you. I'll take a two
way player that can score and shoot but provides all
the other intangibles than a player that's high volume scoring
shooter but has so many weaknesses elsewhere with not being
a willing able passer and takes plays off on defense.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
Okay, where are we with the Lakers.

Speaker 10 (24:10):
With the coaching search. Yeah, they're back to Plan V
with JJ Redick. You know, interview this weekend. It wouldn't
happen tomorrow because of Game four, but that suggests that's
going to happen Saturday, and then we'll go from there.
I think prior to the Dan Hurley possibility, that the
Lakers were trying to pursue the whole ball along. Wasn't

(24:34):
just about seeing if JJ Reddick is the right candidate,
but can they have the right coaching staff around him?
And so that's the other piece of the puzzle they
have to figure out. Maybe James Barrego is part of that.
The problem is James Barrego can also have other options
with Cleveland, and so it's certainly my expectation the Lakers

(24:54):
hope they get this all sorted out before the NBA Draft,
but as we speak now Thursday, June thirteenth, that's not
entirely guaranteed.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
All right, So I'll share with you a conversation I
had with two different people around Cleveland that Dan Gilbert
is gonna I think Dan Gilbert is going to go
meet with all of his star players individually and kind
of get and get their thoughts on who they should

(25:26):
hire and how they should proceed. But what are you
hearing about Cleveland who they want to hire as of
now as their head coach.

Speaker 10 (25:34):
Yeah, I think I think James Barrego definitely has an advantage.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny Atkinson's still in the mix.
But I think that that coach and coach and search. Ironically,
because the Lakers have taken a lot of twists and turns,
there's been a little bit more open endedness with Cleveland
search because on one hand, they've been more proactive with

(25:56):
actually interviewing guys, but the direction isn't quite clear. That's
not to say the Lakers direction has been clear, because
it clearly hasn't been, but it's understandable to a little
bit more of a degree only under the guys that
it wasn't just about the coaching candidate, because they knew
all the options had its imperfections, But what about the

(26:19):
rest and totality of the coaching staff. Where with Cleveland
I don't have as much clarity on what they're looking
for with the entire staff.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Trail. Let's go
back to the Lakers. Any chance Lebron go plays elsewhere next.

Speaker 10 (26:37):
Year, I'd be very surprised, Doug, as you know, anything
with Lebron can technically happen. He's going to opt out
of his player option, but the Lakers have never got
any indication during the season, since the season ended, since
they fired Darvinham, that he's going to go anywhere. And again,
I know that Rich Paul's said on record Lebron's going

(26:57):
to be a free agent, but I think the way
the Lakers have been interpreting that is it's more, you know,
letter to the wall that yeah, he will be a
free agent because he's going to opt out of his
player option to have a new deal, and the Lakers
are totally on board with that. But look, I mean,
when you're talking about the Lakers and the dynamic with

(27:18):
Lebron James, while they do say that he's a stakeholder
and they obviously take what he thinks into consideration, you know,
they all parties have made it a point not to
have any direct conversations about the coaching search, and as
a result, there's not direct conversations about the future either.
But with those caveats aside, I don't think there's any

(27:40):
feeling within the Lakers or even around the league that
Lebron's going anywhere.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Jimmy Butler, what happened to Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 10 (27:49):
Yeah, that one's tough to untangle because I think if
if Jimmy Butler. I think he's going to be, don't.
It's just a matter of, you know, how much can
Miami squeeze, as they always have a high asking price,
and as we saw with the Damian Liward trade negotiations,
that doesn't always work out. But if it wasn't for

(28:10):
the fact that Jimmy Butler was eligible for an extension,
I don't think the Miami Heat would think, you know what,
we're done with Jimmy Butler. It's just more that that's
create a fork in the road moment that they're not
ready to give him that extension because he still has
yours left on his contract. But that's kind of the
unintended consequence of what that happens. You know. In theory,

(28:31):
the NBA and the players Union agree to that so
that teams would have a stronger ability to keep their
incumbent players as and at least be able to get
something in return if it's clear that they want to leave,
you know, once they become a free agent. But here
it's created you know, sometimes, like in Jimmy Butler's case,
shorter deadlines than normally anticipated. So yeah, I think because

(28:55):
of that, they'll look to deal them because they're not
ready to give him an extension because of the fact
he is at in his career and he's dealing with
a lot of injuries, so I would expect that he
gets traded.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Awesome stuff. As always, Mark, we'll talk with you again
maybe as the finals conclude and get ready for this
wild off season. Thanks for our guests on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 10 (29:14):
I always appreciate you, sir.

Speaker 9 (29:16):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Stug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I'm really excited for this.
Today is Thursday. I know a game's coming up. Let's
get to game time with Dan Buyer.

Speaker 9 (29:39):
Is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show, Danny B.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
What's the game today, Doug?

Speaker 2 (29:47):
The game today is.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Rancum. Nope, Nope, nope, Let's try again.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
Let's try this again, Stanza, do we need her to
the rest.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Of damn Bier? What's the game today?

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Ah, Doug, the game today is rank Them.

Speaker 11 (30:11):
Okay, it's not rank them, It's not rank them. Today's
I thought I was a long pause. You guys didn't
like this. The game today is I feel a draft.
That's the game today. It says on the sheet that
I gave to you, Sam.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
There it is there you go, I feel a draft.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Oh boy, I were fine. Now, all right back on track.
Today we are drafting players that you love to hate
in the history of the NBA. We and it actually
comes off the heels of all of Luca's whining. I'm
sure that rubbed people the wrong way, especially you know
Celtics fans, who, by the way, I already hate Kyrie.

(30:51):
So this kind of stems off of that. If you
can remember back in your time, who did you hate
in the NBA. Jason Stewart, you are pick number one.
Samue will pick second, Doug third, and then I'll pick
fourth and we'll reverse it in that order in the
second round. All right, Jason, you're on the clock.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
Thanks Dan, I'll take it from here. Larry Bird. Now,
this is a nuanced take because Larry Bird was my
most hated player growing up through the Showtime Lakers. I
lived and died with the Lakers at the time, and
he was the one nemesis. But I have learned to

(31:31):
like and respect him since, Like I look back on
those years and he was just so darn good that
I spent so much time hating him. I didn't appreciate
how much of a standout he was, so I really
love him now, but at the time I really hated him.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
All Right, Bird is off the board, Sam, you picked second.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
He has a obviously current and future career in media,
and he's a guy you love to have on your team.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
But I'm going to say Draymond Green.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
The physical, antics, the faces, everything, he's a very hateable guy.
I'm sure he's a great family man, all of that
off the court, but on the court people like that hate.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
All right, Doug picked number three.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Who did you love to hate Bill Lambier?

Speaker 2 (32:22):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Hate Bill Ember? Hate Bill Ember.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
I want to add another layer to this because it's
to Jason's point of now there's this newfound respect for Bird,
which is completely absent I feel with Lambier. And I
watched recently. I watched and it was again The Bad
Boys thirty for thirty, and there was just there was

(32:51):
no remorse from Bill Lambier on any of it done.
And it's just like, Wow, he is he is. I
guess that I he like there are guys who will
take on that role. And then when the playing days
are over, they admit what they were and maybe have
a I don't want to say, turn over a new leaf.
But that's not really who they were. But that sure

(33:11):
seems to be Bill Ambier.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
No doubt. God, is he is exactly exactly who he
purports himself to be.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Yes, yeah he was, Yeah he was. He was one
of the worst. I'm going to kind of go a
little off the board, but it is a former Celtic.
But I hated Jerry Ceasting. Oh yeah, my goodness, as
a as a you know, a kid that followed the
Bucks when I was a kid. Just something so annoying.

(33:41):
You know Burn McHale are are you know who they were?
And you know Robert Paris big center. But there was
just something about Jerry Ceasting that was just so annoying
that would just completely, I don't know, get under your skin.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Can you remember when he got in a fight with
Ralph Sampson the NBA Finals?

Speaker 6 (34:00):
Oh yeah, he was like Jersey.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Was like six feet six one. He got if I
was seven foot four. Ralph Sampson wasn't he like?

Speaker 6 (34:07):
He was like Danny Ainge without having game like Danny
Angel was a starter and a pretty good player. In
the league and he was haterable. Seasteine was like a
poor man's Danny Ainge on that Celtics team.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Uh, Jerry Ceasting was a very very uh successful college player,
I believe, right at PURDUEU.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
I know he was in a state of Indiana guy,
but I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Yeah, he's he's Martinsville. Yeah he played, he played again.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
I think I went to a college with the guy
from Martinsville, and I remember he was like, it's the
home to Jersey Ceasting.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Yes, but he also I think I remember reading in
Steve Alford's book. I think he played for Steve Alford's dad.
And he was a really good player in college. I
mean not Yeah, he was not Dan Danny Aingel was
a good better pro like I think six Man of
the Year. But yeah, he was a very good college,
very good college player. And I don't know NBA wise

(35:09):
if he had great years. I think he had a
couple of good years when he was in Indiana. But
those teams are the Celtics. He was annoying, no question.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
This is good.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
He was aged before he was aged.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Yeah, I'd make this quick. This is gonna sound crazy,
but I didn't like Magic Johnson. I didn't like either
the Celtics or the Lakers. Couldn't stand both teams, but
Magic was maybe because he was just too good. I
was not a Magic Johnson fan.

Speaker 6 (35:29):
Yeah, that's not fair. I didn't.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
I didn't like I don't think I love Magic Johnson
because I wasn't a Laker fan either. And you know, uh,
I mean Rambus too. Rambus was ever hatable.

Speaker 5 (35:42):
He was.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
He was the Lakers version of Bill Embier.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Yes, you got Rambus at six? Is that who you got?

Speaker 9 (35:52):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Oh, I get another pick? Are you background of me?

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (35:55):
I was totally not paying attention to where we were
in picks. I just got lost myself. Hateable guys, hateable guys,
hatable guys. Who do I love to hate?

Speaker 5 (36:04):
Well?

Speaker 1 (36:04):
How did I not say James Harden? Mm hmm current, Yeah,
James Harden pretty hateable Sam.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
More so with his time with the Grizzlies. He slipped
into a little bit of obscurity with the Rockets. But
I'll sa Dylan Brooks. We all know his antics from
a few years back.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
Ye, yeah, same role, all right.

Speaker 6 (36:22):
Jason Karl Malone was really fun to hate. I hated
him because we always beat him, and then when Magic
got hiv uh, he basically ran Magic out of the
week by saying he wouldn't play with the guy because
he might bleed on him. It's a real en whitened take.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
Yeah, he's a pretty enlightened fella.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
That's game time.

Speaker 9 (36:44):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Show, covering next to the Doug Gottleeby Show live at
the tireg dot com Studios. There is always a number.
Don't believe me. Listen to Danny Hurley next to the
Doug Gallic Show.
