dot com studios tyrat dot com. Will we get there
on match election, fast free shipping, free road as protection
over ten thousand recommends to dollars tyrat dot com. It's
the way tire buying should be welcome in. You know,
there's an expression that so many of us use, and
it becomes tiresome, it becomes overused, it really does. It

(00:46):
goes like this, Chess not checkers, right, Chess not checkers,
And we all use it because it's smart and it's
the assumption that chess is a smarter game than checkers,
is right. Do you remember the last time you played
checkers or the last time you played chess? And by
the way, even suggesting that you played chess is like

(01:06):
saying the word sofa instead of saying couch, which brings
to mind we were discussing before the show the Donald
Sutherland passed away today. Donald Sutherland, one of my favorite
roles with him in movies is six degrees of separation, Right,
you remember six degrees of separation. Will Smith essentially plays

(01:29):
a con man and oops. If you not haven't seen it,
then you're like, wait. But the idea of six degrees
separation is there's you could put six degrees between any
two people and you find a connection anyway. One of
the other parts to it was the connection in the
word in how we associate words with your level of education, right,
don't say don't say beer, say bottle of beer. Don't

(01:53):
say couch, say sofa. Right, elite people say sofas, they
don't say couch. That's why we say chess not checkers.
It's the illusion of sophistication. I think that's what's that
case here with Rich Paul. It's the illusion of sophistication.
It's the attempt to play chess not checkers, when really

(02:16):
you can play chess and just be a bad chess player.
All right, stick with me now, because there's a couple
of different stories that come into one. I remember yesterday
we shared with you these quotes of Rich Paul saying,
like Bronny and Lebron not tied at the hip at all.
Lebron's not going to sign for the minimum. No one
ever said Lebron would sign for the minimum. It's beyond

(02:38):
stupid to ever try and dumb down any sort of
package deal and think Lebron James would sign for anything
less than the max. But when you say that, you're like, well,
I signed for the minimum. No one said that, but
it was this, Hey, listen, Toronto could take him. Dallas

(03:00):
Cooe Harrison, who used to run Nike, he used to
be Lebron's right hand man, would like he's like an
uncle to Bronni. Why would Dallas want Bronnie James? Like,
when I say Bronnie James can't play, I don't mean
he actually can't play basketball. I just mean he can't
play in the NBA this year, couldn't play in college
this year. And when I say can't play in college,
it means he could. You couldn't play him extended minutes

(03:23):
and hope to actually win basketball games. And that's not
a complete knock on him. Most freshmen. You couldn't play.
He doesn't have a position. He's a good player, he's
a good human. He has a chance to maybe eventually,
maybe be an NBA end of the bench player. But

(03:43):
right now, no, And if you're the Dallas Mavericks and
you just reached the NBA Finals, you're not drafting a
guy who may be somewhere down the road, Oh my gosh,
could be an NBA player, unless you're gonna get lebron
champs with him. We're playing chess, not checkers. Let me
come the two stories. Here's a story from Vince Goodwill.

(04:04):
James Brego could be a name to watch, league sources
told Yahoo Sports as well as ESPN analyst JJ Reddick.
And we're talking about the Detroit Pistons. Reddick is currently
the prime candidate for the Lakers job, so it isn't
known how much traction Detroit could actually gain. Reddick and
Langdon have a duke connection. They were in New Orleans
when Reddick signed there as a free agent before the
pandemic short in twenty nineteen twenty twenty season. Ooh, we

(04:25):
got a connection. But why would JJ Reddick? Let's that
was the story. Okay, I believe that story is bunk bunk. Okay,
Here's what I think is at play. What I believe
is at play is that the story of yesterday and
this story is one and the same. It's that you

(04:47):
got to create some sort of idea that JJ Reddick
needs to be had by the Lakers. Otherwise you're gonna
lose Lebron, just like if you don't draft Bronnie, you're
gonna lose Lebron. Oh, we got breaking news. Here's Moncey
blagyas Monsi.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Breaking news from Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Hey, Doug, you couldn't have been more on top of
the topic. But according to ESPN, Adrian war Janowski has
just tweeted, JJ Reddick has agreed on a four year
contract to become the next head coach of the Lakers.
Rob Polinka offered the job this morning. Reddick has already
started working on his staff to surround himself with experience.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
There you go, There you go, easy chest, not checkers.
All they're trying to do is get this deal finished.
How do you get the deal finished by getting a
little leverage? Hey, you know it could be up with
the Piston job. Piston. You know what could happen is
JJ Duke Ties. He could work with Trajan Langdon Duke family.
Why would they hire him, Why would he take the

(05:53):
Pistons job? No, No, that's that doesn't fit. That doesn't fit,
JJ Reddick. And you can't go from wanting to coach
lebron James and taking a ready made team to a
complete rebuild with the Detroit Pistons when you're a sitting
analyst calling the NBA finals. JJ's not an idiot, not

(06:15):
an idiot. So you look at that story and it
signified to me that they wanted to push to get
the deal done with JJ. Hey, you could lose JJ
here if you don't get this thing done. Detroit could
be interested in him because of Duke Ties. By the way,
JJ Reddick will tell you he has said publicly he
was miserable in New Orleans, miserable. So that snapshot of

(06:38):
JJ being some connector with Trajan Langdon, I don't buy
that one either, just like I don't buy the look
Bronni on his own merits could be like, no, he's not.
I mean, you're not even this is You're not a
Picasso in terms of being a BS artist. You're more
of a paint by numbers Lebron does that want to

(07:00):
leave LA isn't going to leave the Lakers, but wants
to control who's his head coach, and that Bronni ends
up being there. I don't believe for one second that
Lebron is off of the idea of playing with Bronnie.
That's dumb. That's not believable. It's not believable. If Bronnie
James is drafted somehow by another franchise, there is less

(07:23):
than five percent chance he gets a call up in
your one, Why would Lebron James when he can have
him with the Lakers and have him with the South
Bay Lakers and get him a call up, why would
he do that? Like, he's not staying around the NBA
for his health. He wants to compete for a championship,
but he also wants to play with his son. He
stated that as his goal this is do not fall
for really, really, really bad leverage plays. You know, I

(07:49):
got a guy in their line that wants to buy
this car. But if you want to pay over sticker,
it's yours right now. Like, why would I pay oversticker? Well,
there's a limited number of these cars. Okay, My guess
is you can go find another one, and if you can't,
that's gonna be tough. I just again, I think this
is a guy who plays checkers and he's trying to

(08:11):
play chess. And just because you play chess does not
mean that you're sophisticated. Just because you say the words
so far and bottle of beer does not mean I
have to fall for the idea that you know what
you're doing here. I've seen it with bad leverage plays
for Lebron in the past. Right when he was getting
ready to go to the Lakers, they leaked out, Hey,

(08:32):
he could go to the Spurs. We do know that
the San Antonio Spurs, Hey, their mantra is get over yourself.
Lebron James is a lot of things, Okay, good human being,
great basketball player, good solid teammate, one of the greats
of all times. Over himself is not one of those things.
I don't believe for one second that Lebron is going

(08:53):
to go to Dallas, is going to go to New Orleans,
and neither does anybody else. I also don't believe those
teams have any interest in drafting him unless they could
get Lebron James. Why would they? Why would they?

Speaker 4 (09:07):
So?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
What do you think about this?

Speaker 1 (09:09):
What I think about JJ Redick?

Speaker 4 (09:10):
Yeah, JJ Reddick going from the broadcast booth to UH,
from podcast to head coach. And there was that little
thing in between about Danny Hurley being considered more than
JJ Reddick. No hurt feelings there, no awkwardness. Was this
going to be JJ rehck the entire time? Was the

(09:32):
Dan Hurley thing a huge ruse? All these questions need answers.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
I believe that JJ was the prime candidate. I believe
they struggled to fill out of staff and that that
the the Danny Hurley thing was somebody coming in going like,
how do we who else is out there? Like you know,
Danny Hurley hasn't signed his contract. Really let's bring him
in and they want to move heaven and Earth? I

(09:59):
think a big question how many years and how much
money they gave to JJ? But yeah, this was probably there.
This was their plan sort of all along, and the
Danny Hurley thing was more of a did you know
that he was available? And I can tell you that
that happens like in my job and what I do
in terms of signing players is that you have guys

(10:19):
and then somebody calls you or sends you a video
and says what do you think? And you end up
going like, hey, I don't know what do I What
do I think here? Huh? And then you kick it
around and then you circle back to the guys that
you were honed in on to begin with, honed it
on to begin with. So that's my genuine belief. Will

(10:44):
it work? I got no idea. Let's see what they
do with the roster. But I don't think there's any
way in which JJ Reddick is a head coach unless
Lebron James. Okay, tod, Lebron James isn't going anywhere. You
don't hire JJ Reddick, who does podcasts with Lebron James,
unless you've gotten a guarante he that Lebron James wants
JJ Reddick to be his head coach and they're going

(11:05):
to pitch it to you as in so would I.
As Steve Kirk came right out of the broadcast booth,
had never coached a day in his life, and pat
Riley had sort of been an assistant. But pat Riley
basically came from the broadcast booth and became arguably, or
maybe you know, arguably the greatest coach in Lakers history,
he and Phil Jackson. So I don't think he was

(11:26):
ever in play in Detroit. I just think that was
some sort of bluff, probably coming from Lebron's camp in
order to make sure the deal got made, just like
Rich Paul with the sort of bluff. Hey, listen, Nico
Harrison loves loves Bronnie James great, doesn't mean he wants
him on his roster.

Stuck Gottlib Show, Fox Sports Radio, Stug Gotlib Show Here
on Fox Sports Radio. T Jay Whoshman Zada joins us
here on the Doug Ottlib Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Who's good to catch up with you. Trevor Lawrence's new deal.
What do you think.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
The way the market is, it's almost as if you
better do it now and you do it later, you
know it's gonna be greater. And so the way the
quarterback are getting paid, it doesn't matter if you're better
than the next guy. I'm next, and so I'll leapfrog everybody.
But Trevor Lawrence has had a pretty good start to
his career. Now he's gonna have to step it up

(12:34):
and lead Jackson little further than they ever been. Lado
generational talent coming in the best quarterback prospect in years.
That that what was said about him, and so he's
gonna have to play up and live up to that
high pan that contract.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Let's let's go to division. You know, well that AFC North.
This is from NBC Sports Chicago, one of their reporters
that Justin Fields apparently been struggling that Russell Wilson did
nothing through twelve practice or even slightly indicate he could
lose the quarterback competition to Justin Fields. That's because Justin
Fields looks like he really can't can't play. You know,

(13:11):
what do you think about Justin Fields and the likely
that he resurrects his career right way?

Speaker 5 (13:17):
Who released es reporter? Reporter out of Chicago. Yes, so
he's still bitter. Huh what did Justin Fields do to him?
I mean I would have preferred that if it's going
to come come out, come out from a reporter that's
in Pittsburgh, that's at every practice or is it here
say did another reporter tell him this? You never know, man,
There are certain players that Marvel Lewis will say, there

(13:42):
are all pro practice players, and so maybe he's just
not a great practice player, maybe the information is wrong,
whatever it is going to be, we all know that
if Justin Fields gets an opportunity and he doesn't take
advantage of it, he will be out of the league
or he'll be a career backup. And so we know
what the stakes are for him, and it's going to
be up to him to kind of dictate and control

(14:04):
how that goes. Now, if Russell Wilson's playing well, this
is all the move points. If Russell Wilson does not
play well and Justin Field get that opportunity, it's on
him to take to take advantage of him, do the
most with it.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Yeah. Sorry, I just want to corrack myself. It was
a report. It was on NBC Sports Chicago, but it
was Mark Kobaloi cabal excuse me, who's actually a Steelers
beat writer?

Speaker 4 (14:27):
Beat?

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Oh yeah, good, the beat writers. I mean, you're not
playing well and not playing well, you're not practicing well,
and that's okay. You just can't continue to do that
come training camp. And so hopefully as we speak, he's
working on these things. He's working on is a problems

(14:51):
that he needs to take but whatever it may be,
and that's what June and July is for before you
had to camp the fine tune my game and hopefully
that's what he going.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
You know, it's interesting and you know I haven't talked
to you so that since I got the coaching job
here at Green.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Bay away man, congratulations, thank you.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
What you find is when guys transfer okay, and especially
from a higher level, and the expectations for so many
are when they come down a level, is that there
or you know, even the NFL, you switch teams in
that they'll somehow kind of resurrect themselves, fix themselves somebody.
But when a guy has a bad run and people

(15:31):
around him don't have confidence in him, it is really
hard to rebuild that confidence. It is really hard. We
had a great kind of discussion. We're talking about guys
that went to programs and they're really tremendous players, but
it just didn't fit. And what happens is you lose
self confidence. It's hard to get it back, like it
just is. And it's not that you don't have the

(15:53):
talent there, it's just a mentality switch that you just
it's very difficult to make.

Speaker 5 (15:58):
Oh yeah, many time you get banged to lose your spot,
you get traded, somebody doesn't believe in you, and so
the best players you use that as motivation. Man. That's
the thing is, let me use this as motivation so

(16:20):
that I'm not trying to prove you wrong. I got
to prove myself right. And oh, he's really You know
this from being an athlete, man, there is no substitute
for hard work. Shople, how are you going to do this?
You're gonna work your ass off. That's how the best

(16:43):
players are the best players because they work harder than everybody. Now,
there's some dudes like Lebron they're just physically, they're just born.
They're born with great talent, God bless them. But you
still have to work at it. And so you can
be you want to be. You've got to go put
the work in, man, And sometimes that work isn't easy.

(17:05):
You got to look yourself in the mirror and say
this is what I suck at and I'm going to
attack it to be better. And if you're not willing
to do it, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radar. That's the
voice of TJ. Whosh Min Zada whosh. I'm I'm fascinated
in a couple of of of the wide receiver combinations.
Like you look at the rams and you know you
add last year you have an unbelievable rookie season. But again,

(17:35):
now you have two weapons. How does that all work
together when they're all healthy.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
It's gonna be interesting. It's gonna be at interesting dynamic
for mcgrade to navigate because Cooper Cup when he went down,
that's when Pooka started to make a name for himself, right,
And you feed both of them and get them enough
charges to where both aren't happy, they're content, they're satisfied.

(18:04):
And as the offense being successful, are you moving a
ball you score on points? That's gonna be the key now.
And we saw it towards the end of the season
where it'd be one game Pooper would have a good one, oh,
and then Cooper would have a good one. And so
will it be one of those things or can they
both get off in the same game. That's gonna be
an interesting dynamic. McVeigh has shown he can do it.

(18:28):
It's just a matter of can you do it and
win at the level you want to win at.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
It's a great question. Same build, our same stadium, but
kind of interesting what the Chargers are doing right feels
pretty obvious they're doing, you know, the Ravens offense. They're
going to run the football, and it does feel on
some level like maybe not the name talent wide receiver,
but what kind of year does that mean for Justin Herbert.

(18:56):
Sure they'll be able to run it, they'll have better protection,
but does he have the weapons so that he can
throw the football?

Speaker 5 (19:03):
That's that's the question that we all like to answer.
I spent some time with the Charges. I was able
to spend some time Harbor inviting me now went to
a few practices. Qwn Johnson can play. He can he
can play. It's a matter of mentally does he believe that.
Can he put last year behind him? Will Lad McConkie

(19:27):
come in and make a difference, Josh Palmer, But the
biggest thing that Harball is just that dude man like
sitting in the meetings and listening to him and being
on the field with he. He is just He's a
great coach man, and so I have no doubt in
my mind he's going to find a way to make
it work. I mean, he's been successful everywhere he's been,

(19:51):
and after being around him, I see why. The way
he talks to guys, the way he treats him, the
way he encourages them. I wasn't expecting that, just certain
things you just see being around them, and the belief
just this offseason and the way he was talking to

(20:13):
Herbert and Derwin James and putting so much confidence in
him and their abilities, and that's gonna rub off on
the teammates. And so there's no secret he's had his success,
but I was able to see why, and so he's
gonna find a way to make the Chargers in that
organization cautle Fult to another level.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Tjo just Beside is our guest here on the Doug
Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, help me out
with with Jordan Love. I mean, there was there were
three or four weeks where you're like three or four
She's like three or four weeks You're like, Wow, this
dude is a dude, and then a lot kind of
in the middle. Did have a big lead against the Niners,

(20:59):
but could put him away the next time around a
lot more difficult. What are your expectations are for Jordan Love?

Speaker 5 (21:07):
I say Jordan Loved to kind of pick up where
he left off. I really do you look at that
receiving core and you say they can go three four
deep in each game. One of those three or four
guys that this Romeo dives is Christian Washston. If he
can stay healthy. I'm having a brain fart, the kid
from Michigan State. They have so many weapons that each

(21:33):
game you can see a guy get a hundred yards.
And so I just see Justin Loved. You're talking about
Jade and Reid Michigan State. Yes, I just see him
picking up where they left off. Man and the Packers better. Well,
we talked about earlier with Trevor Lawrence. You get better
sign him now because you let this season start. You're
gonna be paying me more later, and so get it

(21:55):
done now or just pay him a little more later.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Okay, they're gonna face the Eagles, and like I don't
want to do like a preview of the game. It's
in Brazil, but it only allows me to jump off
and talk about the Eagles. Hurts didn't have nearly as
good a year, right, different play color on both sides, obviously,
some different personnel, but mostly on the defensive side of
the ball. Same question two years ago. Probably the best
and most efficient quarterback in football. Last year didn't didn't

(22:23):
didn't feel like he was a top ten guy. What's
this year?

Speaker 5 (22:28):
I would we all would expect him the rebound. You
don't lead a team to the super Bowl, you don't
have the type of season that he had and just
can't play. Last year wasn't the type of year that
he wanted. We all know that if he was nicked up,
if he had any type injuries that we didn't know
about that they kept a secret. Who knows. But I

(22:52):
expect the Eagles to be better. They'll be better defensively
because the Fangio is a really, really good coach. So
just that aspect of it defensively is going to make
the team better on offense because they're not going to
feel like they have to score on every possession. And
so I think mentally that that's gonna help him. But
I expect Jalen Hurse to rebound and have a really

(23:14):
good season.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Who's you're the best? You got to get up to
the Green Bay to come see a game, and of
course come over see my team hang out. I can't
wait to see you man, you got to you gotta
come and uh and chop it up with us for you.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
I got again once again. Man, congrats man, you gonna.
It'll be great for them young men, teach them how
to play with teaching how to be men at the
same time. Man, wish you the best, bro.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
I love it, Thanks so much. TJ. Tjhish Mainzada one
of the one of the all time good dudes that
I've ever worked with, and that that relationship started when
he was a player right obviously Sorito's College, and then
he went to Santa Monica College and then to Oregon
State and then onto the NFL. Former Pro Bowl wide receiver.

The way tire buying should be welcome in thank you,

(24:47):
thank you. That's more than a That's more than Rory
McElroy would get today. The collapse at the end of
the US Open was epic and Bryson Deshamba ends up
getting the win, and you know, it leads to the
question of did Rory lose it or did Bryson win it?

(25:07):
And I would say yes, yes, but what an absolute
disaster down the stretch. And look, it's fair to say
those greens were ridiculously difficult to pun out, but whatever
their level of difficulty, it's made worse when you get
tight and you're under pressure and it's really pulled the

(25:29):
opposite of a Tiger Woods. You know, Tiger used to
get a lead and then on Sunday, you know, he
would just shoot for even and then people are trying
to make up shots, make up strokes, and they choked
behind him for that one. What a week for Rory
McElroy where it's announced right before you know, he teas
off on Thursday that he's reconciled his marriage, and then

(25:50):
he's on this dream run and then he's likely to
win a US Open, and then he's not, and Bryson
to Shambeau ends up coming from behind to get the win.
That's that's a crazy week. And then of course afterwards
he speeds off in his car and doesn't want to
talk to any reporters, which we can get to a
little bit later on the show. But I find it

(26:13):
to be fascinating that, you know, I'm one of those guys,
and I've I've told you before there's three types of
people in this world. The ones that look that don't
want to ever see a limb breaking, you know, a
bone breaking or anything. Uh. There's there's some that don't
want to see it, and then there's some that like,

(26:35):
we'll see it just once. And then there's others that
want to see it over and over and over again.
I'm usually that type three. You would think that when
it when it comes to collapsing, when it comes to
collapsing down to stretch, I mean, it's a lot like
a car wreck. Some people don't want to see it.
Some people want to see it once, some people want
to watch it over and over and over again. That

(26:57):
one I'm a little squeamish about. Like I'm more squeamish
about watching somebody completely gag away up a historic major
win than I am watching somebody's leg break in half
when they're playing soccer like that just feels uncomfortable. And yeah,
if you don't like Rory, but I don't know, if
there's this anti Rory sort of sentiment, it could be wrong.

(27:21):
And Rory's the guy who remember he said so many
glowing things about the PGA tour and crushed the idea
of going to live, so he would have been everybody
wants to celebrate, and yet he couldn't close. And one
let and a day like Sunday that finishes that way,
you feel like you don't ever get back. And I

(27:43):
know I've said it before and then been proven wrong
that eventually athletes do get over the hump. But man,
an individual sport like golf, when you have only yourself
and your clubs and maybe your lie to blame that
it doesn't usually work out well. I feel legitimate empathy
for Roy and Mackelrich today, legit because watching that collapse

(28:05):
was painful to watch painful, and then you're trying to
convince yourself, no, you can still get it together, you
still get it. No, you can't. That train came off
the rails and it hit every part of the cars,
the train cars that are next to it, every part
Dan Byra, Did you do you enjoy watching that? I mean,

(28:27):
I know you love the sport of golf. I know it,
and I know from going to us opens with you
how intrigued you are. I know how much you know
about that course. Was that enjoyable to watch him collapse
down the stretch?

Speaker 5 (28:41):
Well?

Speaker 6 (28:41):
I he did collapse. He folded. I think is the
word that I would use. I think it's a little
less harsh, but I still agree with your sentiment of
the shots that you need to make. But I was
enthralled with the whole afternoon, to be honest, because I

(29:02):
actually felt that the week was really good and then
to have it build up the way that it did
and to have it come down to Bryson and Rory,
and there were other players, you know, Patrick Cantley was there,
But it really was kind of this two horse race
that you just watched unfold for the final, you know,
two or three hours of it. I thought it was
I thought it was magnificent. And for Rory to have

(29:24):
a two shot lead when he did and to not
be able to capitalize and to miss the putts that
he missed on sixteen and eighteen, yeah, I mean it
was tough. But I enjoyed the entire afternoon of golf.
I thought it was great.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Yeah, I mean it was a great afternoon golf. But man,
that's hard to watch, that's right, especially because you know,
anyone who's gone through marital stripe, whether you've been divorced,
whether you reconciled, you know, been divorced and been remarried,
you know whatever, you just when that becomes public, it's
more than a little uncomfortable, right, and then you know

(30:02):
it's and all of a sudden he reconciles. You're like, wow, like,
what an amazing week. You reconcile with your wife and
now you're you're back playing great golf and you're gonna
win the US Open. And then again, it's one thing
to not win the US Open, happens to all the
other competitors. It's another thing to to collapse, to fold,

(30:23):
fold up shop. However you want to deem it, that
was Oh god, I just can't now. I will tell
you that I think the speeding away and he didn't
like speed away, wasn't like you anybody was in danger,
but he definitely didn't stop. Uh, he didn't didn't stop
to answer questions.

Speaker 6 (30:44):
Yeah, and didn't help.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
I just.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
It's a terrible look. But it also speaks to what
we've how we've changed how we viewed the media. Right,
how have you the media? Yeah? I do think you
have to do that, I do, you know, take us
through what happened. We're not the reason that you lost.

(31:13):
We're not the reason that you pulled it up shop.
You are, And I think it's honestly very human to
kind of just be defeated and deflated. Like I get it.
But just the speeding off thing is such a bad look.

Speaker 6 (31:29):
There was there was so much in terms of the
two players and who they are, because if you go
back three years ago, there maybe wasn't a more disliked
person on tour than bryceon de Shamba who would be
heckled by fans. And then you have the obviously the
obvious live PGA Tour rivalry. Whereas you mentioned, Rory was

(31:51):
very outspoken, outspoken at one point in favor of the
PGA Tour. He is backed off quite a bit from
that and doesn't engage in that as much as he
once did. And then you have Bryson being the actual
fan favorite and you have Chance of USA. It was
just it was so different than maybe what you would

(32:13):
have gotten if it was two or three years ago.
And to see Rory do that, and to see then
how Bryson handled himself afterwards, and I don't know if
he saw in Golf Channel where you know Bryson not
only joined them on the desk but then went on
the course when Johnson Wagner was trying to replicate Bryson
shot like it was it was. I mean, the Bryson
de Shambeau meter is like at twelve right now, like

(32:36):
there's just so much goodwill. And then you compare it
to Rory driving off after another heartbreak. He finished second
last year, you know, so like this is the second
straight year where he's he's come up short in a
completely different fashion, by the way, than he shod a
year ago. But you just couldn't catch Wyndom Clark because
he had sixteen pars on a scorecard. Bertie the first

(32:57):
hole and didn't birdie another hole the rest of the
roun last year and this was more of a more
of a roller coaster. Still shot sixty nine, you know,
in the final round when you entered, you know, trailing
by by three shots. But it's tough tough to take
when you're when you're down, or when you're up two
strokes playing the back nine on Sunday and then to

(33:18):
drive off like he did. Yeah, it was not a
good look.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
No, not a good look in any sort of way.
So Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio as
we were reminiss and it's interesting like here Bryson Deshambo
ends up winning the US Open. But I would say
I think Rory's collapse gets rightfully more of the attention,
more of the attention.

Speaker 6 (33:38):
Yeah, you have to also look at how many more
times will this It's crazy to think of because of
how on top of his game, Rory is. But if
now you know, Bryson's on top of his Scottie Scheffler's
been dominant through most of the season, Like these things
don't grow on trees. And so now the further you

(33:58):
go without winning in a decade, the more it's gonna
build up with Rory and now you're gonna want it
the next time. He's you know, he's in the in
the lead in the final round. How much do those
two footers and four footers from Pinehurst enter into his
mind again?

Speaker 1 (34:14):
And it's interesting too because he actually, you know, technically
had a better round than than Bryson. Right, he shoots
sixty nine, Bryson shoots seventy one. But it's it's how
it ended, right you under you end, you know, bogie bogie,
par bogie, Like, yeah, you missed it and that was
the two footer. Yeah, you know, you.

Speaker 6 (34:34):
Know, Bryson may have gotten a bit lucky on his
web shot, but he still had to hit the shot.
Even said last night, like four, you know, four out
of one hundred he'd be able to hit like that,
He thought four or five. But yeah, the the you know,
Bryson missed a short putt on the on the back
nine as well at one point, but he didn't miss
two of them.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
No, no, Then he finished par bogie par par and
it's enough to win the tournament.
