Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, this is the Doug gottle Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug Gottley.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What at the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio LA.
What up to?

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Not a whole lot? So tonight's last night's NBA Draft started,
and of course it continues on tonight, and it is
interesting on where we are at the league. I mean,
you got three French players going in the top six
of the NBA Draft. That's crazy, crazy, crazy, and it's

(00:44):
gonna be really interesting to see what Zach Edy does.
He got picked nine. That's that seemed very high. Also
in terms of fit, like he's not really a pick
and roll player, and you're gonna play with John Rant.
That's interesting one. But we'll see how it works out.
You know, well, I guess like if you're if you're
Memphis and you know, seven four, three hundred, normally that

(01:06):
would have been a top ten pick, you know, ten
years ago, fifteen years ago. It's not normally now. But
I think what's fascinating about it is going to be
how he's used and as long as you're reasonable about it,
Like you're not gonna able to play him huge minutes,
but the minutes you do play him, you can be
really effective throwing in the basketball. I just don't like

(01:26):
how it fits with John Morant, like he's not a
pick and roll guy, and John Morant not that he's
a pick true pick and roll guy. He's dynamic going
to the basket, and he's also not I guy who
dumped the ball off to a lot of people ask
why it's so hard to score in the post in
the NBA. Some of it is those skills aren't nearly
as developed as they worked previously, but a lot of

(01:48):
it is in the officiating and how you're allowed to
really be brutal in the low post. I don't know.
I can't wait to see Zach Edy play in the NBA.
I think nine was way too high. I think there's
definitely a for him playing, but there's a ceiling to
how long you can play him because he can't move,
you know, just patrols the paint. And most of these teams,
you know, everybody has a guy that's his set and

(02:09):
maybe not his size, but it's big and most of
those players can shoot outside or can roll with way
greater energy. Other than that, I mean, look, the reason
the draft won't be well watched is you're talking Hawks, Wizards, Rockets, Spurs, Pistons, Hornets, Blazers, Spurs, Grizzlies, Jazz.

(02:35):
That's the top ten pick of the draft. And the
bigger teams, the bigger program, bigger franchises in the bigger cities,
they draw more attention from from from the TV audience TV.
That's simply how it is. Was there any groundbreaking stuff
last night? Not really? Not really. I mean you had

(02:56):
two more Yukon players go. Donovan Clinlan went sevens Von
Castle four, So in the top seven you had two,
two Connecticut guys. We'll probably see another one or maybe
two go tonight. And I think it's gonna be interesting
to see if the Lakers do in fact take Brownie
at fifty five, because you know Dallas it's at fifty eight.

(03:17):
I don't believe Dallas, the Nuggets or Memphis has taken him.
But we'll see if somebody uh generates interest enough for
the Lakers to draft him because his agent Russ Paul
has said they're not taking a two way they want
to be in the NBA. Well you're not taking it,
but what's offered to you that'll be interesting.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
App Left Get get to what the Fox says and
now say every day, This time the Doug Gotlib Show
in the Bonus Podcast and play for your portion of
a previous show on Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports One.
Here's Ryan Leaf and Matt Hasselback having age about Kayleb Williams.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Has there hand been forced with everything that that's gone
on and no veteran there and all the pieces they
put into place with Keenan Allen and DJ Moore and
DeAndre Swift, all the things that are there is is
there just no way to ease Kayleb Williams into what
he's about to get into.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
Yeah, you can do it other ways. There's guys that
start day one first overall picks they start day one.
You take your lumps, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning. It doesn't
look good for a year, and then at some point
it clicks. The rest of the team catches up. The
defense is good, the playmakers are good. I think the
Bears have done a really nice job of surrounding this
young quarterback with great talent. So yeah, I mean there's

(04:38):
another way to do it. I would just say this though,
you're putting all your chips on that quarterback being who
you think he is. You're putting all your chips on
the fact that that guy is not only physically gifted,
but mentally tough enough. And then like, this is the
analogy I use a lot of times with the quarterbacks
that I coach. It's kind of like to use a
golf analogy. That's kind of what quarterback is. You have

(04:59):
to make your putts the first time when the opportunity
is there to make it. You get one opportunity.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
And a lot of quarterbacks that I've been around, they
could have made that throw. Oh let me try again.
I can make that throw. Yeah, I know you can
make that throw. There's like thousands of people out there
that could make that throw, but there's like fifteen that
can make it at the moment that it needs to
be made when that opportunity comes, and those are the
guys that never look back.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
I agree, you know, that's the that's the old competitive
greatness can't even great when greatness is called upon. I
love that. I love that take from Matt Hasselback super
super interesting. Here's Paul Pierre's talking about the Lakers in Dalton, connect.

Speaker 6 (05:42):
I'll give it a seven based on life. Yeah, they
address some needs. I mean the Lakers need pretty much everything.
I mean, you know, they need everything. Like the ten,
you would have went with Edie, you would have gave
it a ten. They got a shooting and so it's solid.
But you gotta understand, like, I'll look at this as
a potential trade piece, you know, I mean, he's a

(06:03):
guy who has some value, who can help some teams.
I'm not sure if he can help the Lakers, you know,
based on what are the Lakers trying to get accomplished?

Speaker 1 (06:10):
You know, you think he's still tradable now.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
Well, yeah, I think he was projected to be in
the lottery, got picked at seventeen by the Lakers, and
you could possibly use him for a trade piece for
another superstar.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
I mean, and that's okay if they do that.

Speaker 7 (06:26):
Yeah, but as it stands right now, he's on our roster. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (06:29):
Yeah, I mean I like to pick, but you understand,
like translating to what he did at Tennessee to what
you got to do for the Los Angeles Lakers. Yeah,
you go from a small time school to the Lakers. Skip,
that's hard to be somebody who I'm thinking gonna contribute.
And not only is the Lakers, you got to play
with Lebron, So you got to ask yourself, how much

(06:49):
can this guy contribute right away? Yeah, he's a little older,
a little more mature.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
I like it.

Speaker 6 (06:55):
But for me, I think this is a good opportunity
for the Lakers to explore the trade.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
So you're drafting him to trade him, but you didn't
do a draft day trade, you know. I think it's interesting.
You know, Jereed McCain went right before jere McCain. Obviously
you listed six to two. He's probably not uh, but
so cal Kid. I like Dalton Connect I do. I
don't know where he plays this year. I mean, he's
just a bench player. Considering when they drafted. It's not

(07:22):
the worst pick in the world. There are some players
I would like. I like Ryan Dunn, who was available
at twenty eight, went to Utah, you know, not the
offensive player, but a dynamic defensive player. Baylor Shireman went
at thirty to the Celtics. There's a guy with great
positional size and an elite elite shooter, but so too
is Dalton connect. I think Connected is a better score

(07:44):
obviously than Baylor Shireman. Shireman requires less, but not the athlete.
I kind of like that first pick. Here's John Fanta
and Craig Carton talking about the biggest winner in the
NBA Draft Night one? Was there for you?

Speaker 8 (07:59):
A clear cut winner?

Speaker 6 (08:01):
Team wise?

Speaker 8 (08:02):
NBA yesterday we talked about would there be some trades?
What would Atlanta do? Would they trade the pick? Was
Trey Young on the move? What's Houston up to? What
are the Lakers gonna do? Et cetera, et cetera. Was
there a winner yesterday outside of the Knicks. Of course,
you're locking up o Giananobi yesterday and draft of a
kid that is not going to play.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
For them for some time.

Speaker 8 (08:25):
I will be in Europe in the G League for
a little while. Who's the big winner?

Speaker 9 (08:29):
I'm gonna do the exercise with you right now.

Speaker 7 (08:31):
Let's do it.

Speaker 9 (08:31):
If you told me I have to pick one NBA
franchise that is best on a track towards a championship
that's not named won the last two champions yes, so
get bottle, the Celtics and the Denver Nuggets. And not
Christ's nixt.

Speaker 7 (08:45):
What what what?

Speaker 9 (08:48):
What?

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Come on?

Speaker 9 (08:49):
I'll head back to Jersey right now. It would be
the Minnesota Timberwolves who got better last night.

Speaker 6 (08:57):
And r a winner.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Crazy to hear the timber Wolves are a winner. It
really is. I don't know how much better they got
last night, but it's definitely gonna be interesting to watch
Minnesota and how they react to their success this season
and their failures this season. But I love Terren Shannon Junior.
I mean that dude who he can score. I mean,

(09:21):
he's probably the best basketball player right now in the draft.
He's just much older than some of the young guys
who people think will develop by him. So I like it.
I mean, there's an Anthony Edwards backup guard, not a
great shooter, but an awesome downhill player, tremendous go into
his left hand. I like that. Pick. I like that
pick a lot. That's what the Fox said.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
I'd say. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekday. He's at three pm Eastern noon
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Let's find out who or what is annoying Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
And it's your annoying.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
All right, Jay Stu, Who are what's annoying you? Today?

Speaker 7 (10:07):
Bud Travis Kelce was on was it busting Busting with
the Boys? I think it was early in the week,
and it's it's gotten a lot of love. There's a
lot of viral clips. It's hit big with with the
Swifties and stuff. Here's my angle on it. I was
wrong at the very beginning. I thought this was a
sham relationship for publicity, and I've been proven wrong. That

(10:31):
sounds like two people that very much care for each other.
That's very sweet, and I'm not going to rain on
their parade, but I do want to point out something here.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
How's it been going to the concerts?

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Due the concerts are a lecture. They're a lecture, and
she just switched it up. She just came out with
the new album, so she like kind of incorporated that
into the new show. So it's she's having fun up there.
So it's like I can enjoy seeing her in her
element killing it on stage. And I love the show man.
She's got bangers.

Speaker 7 (10:57):
Okay, So that very last part, the fact that he
really supports his girlfriend and he likes talking about it.
And they're in web. That's cool. The last part, she's
got a new album and they're bangers. Now, this is
a thirty plus year old guy. I'm in my middle ages,
fifty one years old. I don't know if I could

(11:18):
ever see myself sitting in a bus with two other
grown men and saying Taylor Swift has some real bangers.
Like the teenage girls really like her music. I get that,
and I understand women of all ages actually like it.
I get it. But he doesn't actually like the songs,
does he? That seems to be the only disingenuous part

(11:40):
of this entire thing. You can't actually like those songs,
do you?

Speaker 2 (11:45):
I don't think so. I mean you can like the songs,
but again, it's the description as bangers. There's not a
single song that she has ever released. She like, that's
a banger, right there, Crank down the windows, drop the top,
let's roll fellas. In No way are those bangers.

Speaker 7 (12:03):
That's what I'm saying. If you have a playlist on
your phone with bangers, it's like, yeah, I'm Metallica, some
Taylor Swift, you know, like it doesn't That doesn't make
any sense.

Speaker 10 (12:11):
MONS would like you to know this I think she's
looking at to see the glass with a very upset
She's a very upset face.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
What what's she upset about?

Speaker 1 (12:21):
I mean, Taylor Swift can have bangers.

Speaker 7 (12:23):
You could have Taylor Swift playing after a Metallica name.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Name a song that's a Taylor Swift banger. Well, for me,
I think Cruel Summer.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Look what you made Me do?

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (12:38):
Yeah, I like the song me exclamation point like that
gets me in a good mood. I don't know if
I call it a banger, Like it is not a
heavy bassline, you know, it's not slapping.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
What is? What is a banger?

Speaker 7 (12:49):
Give me a banger?

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Give me an example of a banker?

Speaker 7 (12:51):
Makes you a banger?

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Like actual like the well you can you can even do?
Like do you want to rap a hip hop banger?
Do you want to metal banger? What do you want about?

Speaker 7 (13:02):
Like French? How about popular?

Speaker 2 (13:03):
None of her songs are bangers. No one would describe
it as a banger.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
You wouldn't either, Okay, okay.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
No one.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
You can say it's not a banger without saying it's stinks.
Doesn't stink, it's just not a banger.

Speaker 10 (13:14):
That would not be the I guess what I'm saying
is like, for me, bangers are something that puts me
in the mood right, and I feel like.

Speaker 7 (13:20):
Many to break dudes.

Speaker 10 (13:23):
No, No, for like, I don't know, maybe go work out,
maybe put you break.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
It doesn't, but it doesn't put you in the mood
to go work out. She'd know I do.

Speaker 7 (13:33):
I have a lot of tea swift when I work
out playing way. I don't don't that. Yeah, I don't
do that.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
We wouldn't consider them bangers, No, I would, as Kelsey
definitely wouldn't consider them bangs.

Speaker 7 (13:44):
There's one song, there's a tailor show song on my
phone that I listened to a lot, and it's called
never Calm Down or is it?

Speaker 1 (13:50):
It's just calmed down?

Speaker 7 (13:51):
You should just calm down, you know whatever? Okay, I
don't even know that in the song, but it has
a great beat to it. It has like a great
driving beat to it, and I've always enjoyed it ever
since the first time I ever listen to it. So
it's not like I don't dislike her songs. I would
just never include her songs on a list with other
guys by saying banger, like, if you're the one guy
in the room. If like one guy's talking about pour

(14:11):
some sugar on me, the other guy's talking about party
all night long by ACDC. This guy brings up Metallica
and you're like, yeah, that Taylor Swift song. I think
you would get a sideways look, you know.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
I also think it's fair to say and like, she's
there's no part of her that's like a smoke show, right,
You wouldn't describe her as a smoke show, like, oh,
she's a smoke show. Now you can say she's beautiful
inside and out like that we don't know about. That's
kind of cool, But again, it's the same type of thing.
Like you can describe her as a lot of things,
the smoke show is not one of them, right, just

(14:44):
not so I would say the same thing about her music.
What else is annoying you?

Speaker 7 (14:51):
Caitlin Clark has pissed off a lot of people, and
I think one person, if I give her any credit
at all, who hasn't really hid that, Like you could
tell that this is a genuine reaction. So Diana Tarassi
is on some team they play. They played Caitlyn for

(15:11):
the first time this weekend. I'm not sure how that
is because it seems like she's played thirty games and
there's only twelve teams in the league, so I don't
know how the how that plays out. But she was
asked this question and gave this answer.

Speaker 9 (15:23):
It's going there facing Kayn Park for the first time
on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Yeah, it'll be fun.

Speaker 7 (15:29):
So for effect, we could have left in the other
five seconds of dead air at the end of that.
He's asking her to give give us some thoughts on
playing Klayton for the first time on Sunday, and she
said it'll be fun. Now, what the listeners don't see
is that she gave a little fake smile during the answer,
and then the smile went right away. And again I

(15:52):
give Tarassi. I give her credit for being very genuine.
I don't think she's into this. I think that she's
pretty probably pretty board with it. She's already kind of
had her career, so it's not like Caitlin's gonna lift
lift her up in the in the coming years. But
I will say this about TARROSSI, there's a gracious way
to answer a question and there's a non gracious answer, right.

(16:15):
I don't know if it would have taken too much
to be like, you know, what I am looking forward
to seeing, you know, the arena full of Caitlin fans
and that's going to be an interesting dynamic. And you know,
playing her for the first time, seeing her up and
up close and personally, that'll be fun not just h yeah,
it'll be fun.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yeah. Kevin felt like he blew off the comment, right
Is that fair?

Speaker 7 (16:40):
Just yes? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:43):
That that is? That is in fact annoying. That that
completely annoying. What else?

Speaker 7 (16:49):
So this is going to be and I think it's
going to because just because the the talk radio vacuum
is going to be pretty empty over the next couple
of weeks. Should Shoheyo Tani be in the home run Derby?
I want to get a head start on this one.
The answer is no. He has been rehabbing an injury

(17:11):
where he can't pitch. People don't know that maybe he
can only hit this year. He can't play the field,
he can't throw the ball. He can only hit the ball.
There's a certain there's only a certain amount of swings
he has in that as he's rehabbing for next season,
I don't need him doing the home run derby. There's
over exertion. There is a home run Derby. All participants

(17:34):
will tell you this, and I've heard this for years.
It's a different it's a different exercise. It's not BP.
It's obviously not your regular day to day game swings.
It's lots of cuts and lots of repetition, and I
don't want anything impacting that rehabbing a situation with his arm.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Wait, so how does that affect the home run derby.

Speaker 7 (18:03):
And whether or not he plays in the homeown Derby? Yeah,
I just explained it.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
What you think it affects his arm?

Speaker 7 (18:11):
Yes? Why I just explained this. There is a certain
amount of repetition and over exertion and when it comes
to swinging for the derby.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Did a doctor say that.

Speaker 7 (18:23):
No, I'm not saying. I'm not saying the doctor said.
I just know. I'm going by what other players have
said after coming off of that home run derby. It's
a different exercise. It's not regular BP. It's not the
day to day swings in the cage. This is repetition
swinging out of your ass for five to ten to
fifteen minutes. However, you last in this thing and it

(18:45):
takes its toll, and I don't want anything fucking with
that rehabbing arm.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
I think that's fine with the exception of the fact.
Has he been in the Home Run Derby before? Sure, Yes,
I'm sorry. I don't watch Homer in Derby. I just
i'd like, I don't want to be a liar and
tell you I watched. Okay, so he's been in before.
Where's the where's the All Star Game this year? Do
we know? Is it in La?

Speaker 7 (19:14):
Efforting? Efforting? I went to that that was a couple
of years ago.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
That was a couple of years ago, or crazy. We
don't know, right, I'm not saying you don't know. I
don't know either. Lmby All Star Game twenty four it's
in Texas? Yeah, Texas. I wouldn't. I would only it
was like in La or in New York or whatever. Yeah,
I'm fine with that. The repetition of it, Yeah, I

(19:39):
get it. I mean, again, I don't know enough about
the specific injury and the surgery and the rehab and
how it affected. I think what you're saying does stand
up stands to reason. There isn't twisting of that arm,
so maybe not. I don't know, but yeah, I mean,
if he's playing in the All Star Game, that's enough.

(20:04):
Who else is annoying you anything else.

Speaker 7 (20:06):
I just think that the conversation about show hey being
a part of that thing's annoying. I think Diana Tarassi
choosing not to be gracious is annoying.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
She's a complete bitch. She's a bit. She's not gracious.
They're all this way. Do you see the Minnesota Links
coach she had another comment you know about now that
now they'll pay attention to us, like she's the reason
Caitlin Clark isn't on the team. Just let's just kind
of be honest. We talked about this in the radio show.
But yeah, I mean, I dian Tarassi has just got

(20:38):
to pay me such an a lot over this thing.
It's great.

Speaker 7 (20:40):
By the way, the Minnesota Links won the playing game
this week.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
The playing tournament. They have a planer, they have a
playing tournament in the In the w.

Speaker 7 (20:48):
NBA, nobody knew, nobody care, nobody cared, And that I
think that tells you where the w n B A
is right now. If there's you know, you reach certain
markers of like is it a Kaitlin Clark or is
just everyone real excited about women's sports again? And I
think it's I think that's a great example of it
being all about Kaitlon that went by the news cycle

(21:09):
and almost nobody's care or talked about.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
It completely and totally. I agree, completely and totally agree.
So Tarassi, oh uh yeah, Tarrosse's annoying. She's annoy.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Because we can.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
All right, here's a setup. Okay, we do because we can,
we can play things for you right here in the
doug Outleap Show podcast. You can't hear anywhere else. Here
is Travis Kelcey is part of that busting with the boys, So.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
I could probably set you up with everything. And she
just walked right through the front door. It's just like
there's no like going down, like to like getting hit,
talking to security making sure that she gets to hers.
She was just like, I just want to be around
the family and friends and like experience this with everybody.
I was just like, she got bookoo points for that.

(22:09):
I was like, damn, she's just fucking She's in the
She's in the madness, man, she wants to be a
part of it. She wants to support me and do
things like that. I was like, man, she really won
me over with that one, though.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
Yeah, what is in the madness? By the way the
madness of his life. Is that what she's talking about,
the madness in terms of being in his family's life,
whatever it is, I do love that element to the story.
We can only play for you because we can. All Right,
that's it for the end the Modus Podcast. Check out
