What Up with you? Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio
coming to you from the tyrat dot com studios tyrat
dot com. We'll we get there. Unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road has protection or ten thousand recommend sellars tyrat
dot com the way tire buying should be. I'm being told, okay,
I'm being told that there's a chance we get Luke
(00:39):
Fickle today. Okay. And this is a big one for
buyer because if you guys know, like Dan Bayer is,
he's a huge Ohio State football fan. He's from the
state of Wisconsin, but a huge Ohio State fan. And
I believe a big Luke Fickle fan from Luke's time
at Ohio State and of course Luke's time at Cincinnati
(01:00):
as well, and he's head coach of the Bidgers. Is
that a fair.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah, he was a member of a defensive line that
included Mike Vrabel and Matt Finkas and they probably should
have been national champs in nineteen ninety six, were Rose
Bowl champs that year. But yeah, Luke Fickley and obviously
filled in for Jim Trussell on that interim year and
then stayed with urban Meyer on staff and then spread
his wings to be a head coach and now at
(01:27):
Miolma Mater.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
So, by the way, we've gotten some other feedback, like
how interesting is Oregon? Like again, I think the Big
Ten's a fascinating conference because you add in the two
things that organ has had. They've had athletics them for
a long time, but you go back two coaches ago
and they became really good upfront. Okay, so Oregon obviously
(01:48):
new quarterback. That changes some things. But Oregon, you know,
to the Midwest, and one of the things about the
Big Ten expanding to the West coast is everybody talks
about the weather. It's like, look, USC is gonna play
in crummy weather twice a year. They played crime weather
twice a year. You know, in previous years, whether it's
at Notre Dame, at Washington State, occasionally at Washington, you're
(02:11):
not playing in December, you're not playing in January, like
you know, you run the risk of maybe playing one
snow game. Maybe maybe, But I do think the Big
Ten is a fascinating conference. And then look in the
in the SEC. It's gonna be interesting to see what
what Oklahoma looks like. You know, the people at Oklahoma
seem to think with Dylan Gabriel returning at quarterback, even
(02:36):
though I thought there were some limitations to him last year,
but they spent a lot of money. Venables obviously had
a bounce back year. But I just I think it's
a completely different way class when you're going week after
week after week in the SEC. But we we'll see
those schools are like the new conferences make it interesting.
The new college football is interesting. And when we've seen
(02:59):
rule changes, league changes, playoff changes, like all of these
things happen. We can act like we know, but nobody
really knows. Alabama has a new head coach. That's probably
the most interesting team in college football. Like you know,
bos did a great job at Washington, but it's a
weird fit to see him at Bama. And you're replacing
(03:19):
more than a legend an iconic college football coach in
Nick Saban, Like doesn't get any more interesting than that.
And then you have Texas that felt like they're back.
Now they go against the SEC teams of like spending,
and of course Oklahoma, who's dominated the Big Twelve there
now in the SEC to a lesser extent, the Big
Twelve is interesting with their expansion. What does Utah look like?
(03:42):
What does Colorado look like? Obviously Colorado took a bunch
on the chin, but the thought is that this year
in the Big Twelve they could be one of the
most competitive teams. What does that look like? I gotta
tell you, Like, don't get me wrong NFL ratings King,
But the combination of the College Football Playoff, the expansion,
(04:02):
the interest in those expansions, and let's also not underplay
college football twenty five. Once we get two three years
into it, not nearly as much buzz. It's just it
just becomes a video game and it doesn't sell nearly
as well as bad inseelves. But because we haven't had
it in like a decade and now it comes back
out along with all of these other storylines to college football,
(04:26):
it should make for a really interesting year. And I
don't have the answers, so Luke Fickle May we're trying
to get into big big ten media days taking place
currently may or may not join us, So no promises.
I do want to get to this. And by the way,
we're broadcasting live from the tirect dot com studios tyrect
dot com while we get there. Unatched selection, fast free shipping,
(04:47):
free road has protection for ten thousand recommends s allars
tyrat dot com the way tire buying should be. We
should mention that there's expectations of Jordan Love getting a
new contract like none of none of it is surprising.
What I think is what surprising is Adam Schefter tweeting
out that Jordan Love, when this deal gets done, could
be the highest paid player in the NFL. That part,
(05:09):
to me is surprising because even though he obviously outperformed
anybody's expectations last year, and he's supposed to make eight
million this year, and they've been able to build a
really young, vibrant team with him on the cheap, and
now he appears to be he's going to be the
guy for the next at least five years, being under
(05:32):
contract and still being pretty early on in terms of
the volume of starts he's gotten. It feels weird to
give a guy the biggest contract ever, doesn't it to
anybody else, And especially for the packers, somebody who's been
relatively conservative. Now, you know, Like, it's just it's very
(05:52):
important to not do business with the f you mentality.
I'll give you an example, like, I take this job
and I am not playing Oklahoma State as an few
to my aln manor who chose to hire somebody different
than me, Like, I don't think that's a healthy way
to operate. I nearly did that once in my life,
(06:14):
in when I switched schools from Notre Dame to Oklahoma State.
Obviously everyone knows a lot of what went into the
Notre Dame switch, but not everything. But the point is
I nearly went to Marquette, and I think at least
a portion of it was because hey, every year, every year,
(06:34):
Notre Dame plays Marquette. But I don't think that you
give Jordan Love a gigantic contract, a gigantic contract simply
because everybody doubted him. And it's a way to say
(06:54):
to Aaron Rodgers on the way out the door. But
he's obviously going to get a deal. And if you
if you want to harken back, no one ever hearkens forward.
They always harken back. If you want to harken back
to when he was drafted, I said at the time,
made complete sense. Packers never drafted in the top ten.
He was a potential top ten prospect. He was coming
(07:15):
off a disappointing second year different coach at Utah State,
but he was a couple of years away and if
he was developed right, he could be a really good quarterback.
That has happened. Here's the Packers GM Brian Gunnikins when
he addressed to Jordan Love's contract situation yesterday.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
We're very down the road as far as we know
that he's our franchise quarterback and we're ready to move forward.
That's not it's not like we're trying to make that decision.
But at the same time, we want to put the
best team around him we can, and we want to
make sure that you know, there's there's certainly the structure
of it so that we can do what we need
to do for our football team moving forward, not only
this year, but years to come.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Is very very important.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Again, like I said, it's this is just part of
it not unexpected, and we'll work to get it done
and you know, hopefully he won't miss too much time because.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
It is you know, we got a lot of work
to do. You know, we think we have a very
good football team, but we.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Got to come together as a team and he's a
big part of that. So him being out there is
important for us.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, I
mean he's there. It feels like they are a couple
of eyes, a couple of eyes being dotted. Tea's being
crossed from getting this thing done. But what an amazing
one eighty right. I mean, look, we are all occupy
(08:31):
in the same space as radio hosts, and there's some
really talented people who who profess to be football people,
some that work with us, some that work with other places. Okay,
we have some really talented people. And I know two
of them that said, Jordan Love can't play last year,
(08:54):
couldn't play, like he stinks, can't play. Not he's okay,
not temper the enthus he has not he can be
a game manager specifically said there are lots of things
that Jordan you know, again I'm not paraphrasing, lots of things.
Jordan Loved may be good at football, is not one
of them. To go from that to the highest paid
(09:15):
player in the league, and I think that would be
an overpay, and I'd love to see the actual actually
what the finances look like. But you listen to Brian Goodencainz,
that's their quarterback of the future. That's what they want.
This is their guy of the future, and they want
cost certainty, so they will lock him in for long
term to go from last year this time, where again
(09:40):
I can name at least two people who host national shows,
one of who I'm on this network said he can't play.
It wasn't made by the way. I can't think of
a more you know, fascinating one to eighty than what
people are doing today. I'm not alone though, thinking if
(10:03):
it was over fifty, it's an overpay, isn't it.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
You Know.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
It's funny because I yesterday, as I was in for you,
I know that the team in the NFL usually has
all of the leverage, and I think that's probably the
same in this case. But I do think that Jordan
Love is a little bit more than maybe others or
in previous situations because of the Aaron Rodgers situation, there
(10:26):
isn't a safety net behind Jordan Love. But I think
to your point of what you're saying and what Brian
Gutekunsk is saying, is Aaron Rodgers took the Packers negotiations
so personally, and whether he was right or wrong to
do that for what he provided for the team and
the franchise, that's a whole different argument. But I don't
(10:48):
think that they looked at it personally. And to think
that they would look at Jordan Love and make a
personal decision with him just being there the short amount
of time that he's been there compared to what Aaron
Rodgers has been there, I just think would be foolish
to think that they would make that emotional decision. So,
with all that being said, you're probably right in terms
(11:10):
of where they would want to pay him, although I
would not blink an eye if.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
They gave him over fifty million dollars.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
No.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
I can only tell you that in this town, where
the Packers are everything, I have not heard anyone say
like they don't pay him?
Speaker 5 (11:27):
What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Right?
Speaker 5 (11:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
No one, no one. It's all like they he is
beloved and they think he's got it. And they think
there's still more great football in him, and you know,
I would love to see a little bit more in
terms of a little bit more play. But dude, that's
it is crazy how many people were wrong. And I
(11:53):
think my issue with them being wrong is they were
wrong for the wrong reasons.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
Right.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Remember we had seen him fill in for Aaron the
year before and he looked really, really good, and yet
there still wasn't the buy in.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Then Rogers leaves, and you know before he had been
the starting quarterback and been the guy. There's people saying
he can't play. I was like, wait, did you have
information that no one else had? The Are you talking
to people with the Packers, because they profess both of
these people I know, professed to be somehow inside you know,
the locker room, inside the Beltway, if you are, if
(12:32):
you will, about their knowledge with the Packers. I was like, man,
maybe they know something we don't that he can't play.
I just I want to see a guy play sixteen games,
now seventeen, and then I want to see him play
seventeen more. And you know, after about two years you
kind of figure it out. But he's got a little
erran to his game. In his ability to make playsoff script.
(12:55):
He's got that athleticism, he's got the kind of wrist
snap of Aaron. He delivers the foot ball and off
the field, there's not an issue there. And I think
he's really well liked by his dudes. Like it's a
it's interesting on the juxtaposition of the if if he
becomes anywhere near like, let's not heap expectations of Farv
(13:16):
or Rogers, but if he can become the starting quarterback
for five years and you put him the juxtaposition of
Farv who is beloved but not a study guy and
just kind of an offscript guy to Aaron Rodgers, who
is a never turnover kind of a curmudgeon, was like
by guys, but can run hot and cold and kind
(13:37):
of kept to himself in very private in his personal life.
To Jordan Love who seems to be much more of
one of the guys and kind of this young group,
and how he plays in sort of his own style
of playing, how Aaron plays. It's a really interesting going
to be interesting what the final bottom line is the
(13:57):
expectations is his fifty a year, how he plays now
when he's held to a greater level of expectation because
of that money, and can he evolve into the quarterback
who at his best last year looked like one of
the five to ten best in the league. It wasn't
the whole season, but there were times.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Yeah yeah, and the second half of the season and
even that forty nine Ers game that they lost in
the playoffs, like you're thinking, wow, you know this is yeah,
this is this could be something for sure.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
It could be something.
Speaker 6 (14:31):

(15:05):
show's over, download, subscribe, rate, review, all that different fun stuff.
Uh and today we'll talk Chicago Chicago Bear football, Chicago
Bear football on the Bears on the podcast. Did you
guys see this note? It really interesting? What's happened to
the w NBA in the perfect timing. They're going to
(15:29):
get a new TV deal which is going to obliterate
the the old TV deal. They're still going to lose
money this year doing the charter flights. I think putting
cart before horses a little bit much. But the Caitlin
Clark effect is real. It just it just is. And
the latest sign is that they got a three point
(15:52):
four to four million people watched the w NBA All
Star Game on ABC, topping the previous record of one
point four to four million. So two million more people
watch the w NBA All Star Game, in which the
WNBA All Stars beat Team USA. Anyway, two million more
(16:14):
people watched. And I mean, I I can't equate every
one of those two million people to be because of
Kaitlin Clark. But are we, okay saying eighty five ninety percent?
Jase do is that? Would you say that's a reasonable,
reasonable percentage that that she brings eighty five?
Speaker 7 (16:33):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (16:33):
I hear ding dingy. That's but that's Sam. Okay. Sam
watches everything Kaitlin Clark does in a in a not
creepy way, Okay, want to point that out. It's not creepy,
respectful way. You just like watching him play basketball. You
love watching play basketball. But is that do you think
that's a fair number? About n eighty five? Ninety percent?
Speaker 7 (16:51):
Yeah? I think that's a little low, you know, like,
I like, what's what's ninety percent of three million?
Speaker 2 (16:59):
Well to two million? Is the difference, right, son? Of
two million? Yeah? Yeah, one point eight million more people
watched because of Kaitlyn Clark. I think that's reasonable.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Now do we do we include the fact that they
wanted to see how she did against Team USA because
they left her off?
Speaker 5 (17:22):
Or is it just the.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Caitlyn Clark is playing. I'm watching fact there? Because I
actually think that there could be multiple different audiences.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Can I say yes? I'm both?
Speaker 5 (17:31):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (17:32):
I think yes on both, But I don't think I
could be wrong. I don't think most people who tuned
in knew that it was Kaitlin Clark versus Team USA.
I think there's a percentage of people that knew that.
I vaguely paid attention to it. As you guys know,
I don't like All Star games, and I knew she
wasn't going to participate in the three point shooting contests,
(17:54):
and she said she needed a night off, okay, and
she used that night off and she played really, really
well and she just facilitated I mean, to me, that
made me want to watch more. And the other part too,
it was that it was actually a pretty good basketball game.
Like it actually goes counter to what the NBA guys
do is they think people want to watch them dunk
(18:16):
and shoot open threes and do crazy stuff. But it's like, yeah,
that works with summer camp when kids are eight and
they're sitting around and anyone who dunks becomes their hero.
But I think the basketball game kept the audience there.
And then the fact that USA basketball it's the same coach.
And did you hear what's her name? I'm sorry, she's
(18:40):
the Minnesota Links coach. She's the coach of USA basketball.
I don't know if you guys heard her after the game,
but she was asked about roster construction and whether she
would make any change. She said no, But again she
had no point. Did she say the committee decided? The
committee decided. This feels like it was her call. I mean,
(19:02):
all of this stuff feels like it's it's really you know,
because the end of the day, it is her team.
And I understand that Hey, it's your team and you
won it one way, But that was that was an
interesting one.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
I do also think Cheryl Reeves Reeve, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
She's the coach of the Links, and she's made some
comments which I don't think are perceived as negative towards
Kaitlin Clark. I think she's very negative towards the Kaitlin
Clark effect. Yeah, Kaitlyn Clark effect.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
I've been on record that I feel that the Caitlyn
Clark effect has been in place long before Angel Reese
started to do her taunting and pointing at the ring
and that you can't see me like Caitlin Clark did
in previous games. But I also do think that people
were curious on how Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese would
be as teammates, which was another reason why people may
(19:54):
be tuned into that game. They see how they would
work on the same team, considering we feel that they're
such adversaries.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Sam, what'd you think of watching?
Speaker 8 (20:09):
Yeah, it was a higher scoring game, which you know,
it was like kind of looked like an NBA score
because usually don't see WNBA games get into like the hundreds,
you know, versus the hundreds. Again though, a kind of
a problem. And I think maybe Caitlin Clark is aware
of this, is that her three point shooting has been
really bad. So she was zero for seven in that game.
(20:30):
She only had four points. She did have the record
with Tennis sis for a rookie, which was great. So
she's definitely she's definitely doing the quarterback thing while out
there on the floor. She is really she's really seeing
the court well. But yeah, I think she needs this,
you know, five weeks off during the Olympics too. First
of all, probably for the first three to five days,
just hang out and sleep, lay under a blanket, have
(20:54):
your phone off, and put a do not disturb sign
on her door.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
It is more than it's like can you can you
imagine being her?
Speaker 6 (21:03):
No?
Speaker 8 (21:04):
No, she's can you imagine logging into her Twitter? And
like you just you couldn't possibly look at all the
mentions and you know, just I think the best thing
for her is just to block it out, and she's
been doing that, I think pretty well. But she's tired,
physically tired and probably oh yeah, emotionally and spiritually tired
and just wants to be maybe left alone for a week.
(21:28):
But she's handled it well.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
I mean handled, she has handled well, she has hid
well and grown, and probably the best thing for her
is to not go. But I think it's bad for
the brand of women's basketball because otherwise it's just women's basketball.
We're dominant, we get it, we go out there, but
people will legitimately care about Caitlyn Clark.
Speaker 7 (21:48):
How about the opposite? How about the opposite I want
to pull. Maybe we'll put it out on our Fox
Sports radio Twitter feed. Are you rooting against Team USA
women because Kaitlyn Clark's not.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
I can't stand show reeve. I think she comes across
as well. I think you know what the word is,
no I I I would really no. I just again,
her whole, her whole act, her whole bravado is. So
(22:22):
it's not just unbecoming of somebody who's a coach, but
you know, your your job when you're USA Basketball, the
coach USA Basketball, like you're a champion of the game.
You're growing the game, and there just isn't like you know,
there's a coach speak code that everyone knows. And she refuses,
and it shows her what has to be an insecurity right.
(22:45):
She feels like Shooter McGavin that she feels like that
was too busy winning, Like, all right, dude, but she
took the worst team in the WNBA. They're terrible to
start the year and now they're competitive and oh yeah,
by the way, she's really good and people care. They
want to watch her play. And when I put in
a situation where you have better players around or she
becomes a facilitator, like I don't understand what her deal
(23:05):
is other than some massive, massive insecurity. And as we've
said before, she is the embodiment of what's wrong with
what's hard with women in the workplace is that the
biggest challenge, biggest hurdle for women to get over in
the workplace is other women. Rapid Radios are instant pushed

Dan Bayer, who will join us, and then I want
to talk a little bit about the Patriots. The subcommis.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
I'll say one other thing, and I did not watch
the WNBA All Star game, but I did see that
Eriquo Goumbalwalle had thirty four points. And if there was
a name that people felt deserved to be on that
was left off solely because of her play, it was
Rique a Goombalwally. So maybe surel Reeve also didn't look
good that the person that she left off ended up
(24:16):
having thirty four.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
And a few times in a row.
Speaker 8 (24:18):
Dan, Yes, I think she was in the Olympics pool
to make the team twice and she got left off twice,
and now she's burning Team USA.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Yeah. The one thing about Rique goobalwallely thank you, is
that she high volume, high volume, high volume, and her
team doesn't win, correct, So it's one of those things.
But yes, I mean that's that's what that game was
set up perfectly for. Oh, you don't want to you
(24:49):
don't want to take us? Well, Kaylen Clark shows she
can even shooting poorly, dish it out, and then Erika
and Gonwally shows obviously she can score and the game
wasn't particularly close. All right, thanks so much, Doug gotlip
show here on Fox Sports Radio. That's the voice of
the one and only Dan Byer. You know the other
thing like Alabama new football coach, we talked about college football.
(25:14):
We'll also you got Michigan State new football coach. Like
we kind of go through all these differ polic coaches.
The new England Patriots have a new football coach. And
as much as in the NFL you get new football
coaches all the time. For the Patriots, you're talking about
twenty plus years of the Bill Belichick regime. Take a
listen to girod Mayo course for a Patriot player himself,
(25:36):
the new head coach of the Pats, when he was
asked about expectations for the season.
Speaker 9 (25:41):
Successful season, you know, in my eyes is really about
the foundation, Like have we put together a good foundation
of a combination of young and older players to really start,
you know, competing. And I'll say, it would be great
to get up here and say like we're gonna win
a Super Bowl. But once again, it's about the process.
And I tell the guys all the time, it's about
process and progress and moving forward.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
That sounds like we are not going to be very good,
which the expectations are. And if you're ever going to
take over for Bill Belichick. Hey, taking over after a
couple of disappointing years. It's a good time to do so.
But did anyone else listen to that and think they're
not gonna be very good? Yes, there's a balance there
(26:25):
between being braggadocious and not being able to back it
up and just being quietly confident. He's not even anywhere
near that balance. Hell, it's not. I don't worry about records.
It's about process, and anytime you say that, it means
we think we're going to stink.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
I also thought that it was interesting though that he
was saying that they need to build a foundation, and
it's likely under his regime. Yeah, but that was one
of the things that Belichick I think was known for
in training camp of they would just kind of start
at the basics and the fundamentals and build up from there.
And to think that, I mean, again, he obviously wants
(27:02):
to set his own path, but to have that be
the focus. Maybe there's a part of that Belichick in
him that is doing that. But you would also have
to think that a foundation was there with Belichick no
matter how bad the season was previous, and it.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Will be weird to not see Belichick on the sideline though, right, Yeah,
really weird, really really really weird, really weird. Fox Sports

buying should be. I mean, you have a couple of
long tenured coaches that are no more. I mean, obviously Dan,
you're Dan's a big Seahawks Van. Pete Carroll no longer
(27:57):
the head coach of the Seahawks. So watching him to
chew his gum vigorously and walk quickly up and down
the sideline, that's gone. So no hoodie and no Pe Carroll,
No hoodie, no.
Speaker 5 (28:09):
P Carroll quite a change.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
And then for the Raiders, is this coach four and
four years? Four and three years? Trying to think like
how long it's I think it's four and three.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
Years, right, McDaniel had did he do?
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Did he do? A year and a half?
Speaker 7 (28:28):
I remember John Gruden was the coach when I started here,
and I started three years ago.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Okay, okay, So he had Gruden and then he was
replaced by Bisacia Bissacia the Raiders, and then you have
and then obviously you have two. So it's four and
four years, I guess, or four and three years, third year?
I mean, how about that one? Right, that's an all timer.
(28:56):
And they hired Tom to LESCo and most times gms
to get fired, they they never get another job. He
gets one within the same division. Also their third general
manager I think during that same period of time as well,
so and maybe fourth in four years as well, if
if I look back, because yeah, or four and five
(29:17):
years with the general manager. Meanwhile you got the Patriots
and Patriots who you got like twenty five years, and
even the Seahawks you're dealing with like fifteen years. They're
finally getting new coaches.
Speaker 6 (29:31):

(30:02):
the Bonus Hour podcast as well, where you find out
what is or who is annoying. Jason Stewart and I
think I think everyone would admit that today's year annoying
is somebody who's really annoying. Let's get to the press,
the press.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Hey there, Dan Meyer, what do you got, Doug. We're
actually going to start out with a golf note. Play
has been suspended in the second round of the US
Junior Amateur, where Charlie Woods is teeing it up. A
tough first day for Woods yesterday, shooting a twelve over
par round of eighty two, not likely to advance into
the match play portion of the event, However, Charlie has
(30:43):
currently went over on his round today through four holes,
but play was suspended due to dangerous weather in the area.
The news though not as much about Charlie's play as
maybe some of the appearances we've seen, because Tiger Woods
has been at Oakland Hills in suburban Detroit checking out
his son playing.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Crowds at least one.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Hundred people following Charlie in these first and second rounds,
Charlie donning a titleist cap and a Sunday Red polo,
which is Tiger's new product, new apparel line that came
out after he and Nike parted ways at the New
Year And maybe most surprising of all, even TMZ made
an article about this. Tiger's been spotted in shorts, so
(31:28):
you actually see the scars from the car accident that
he suffered three years ago here in southern California. Tiger
usually wore pants or wore a sleeve over his leg.
Now you're seeing some of the scars from Tiger Woods's
accident that he suffered three and a half years ago.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Tiger in shorts? Does anybody buy Sunday Red? Has that
sold it all?
Speaker 3 (31:49):
I bought a pullover the first day that it came
out and I actually really like it, Like I really
like it. It's just I don't know how much the
logo resonates. But have not seen a lot of Sunday
Red on the golf courses.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
No. I mean, I've heard that they're struggling to sell stuff.
But it's one of those one of those deals where
it's actually really cool gear. Right, it's very cool, very stylist,
like anybody would And whether it's because it's not affiliate
with Nike or because Tiger is no longer the dominant
(32:23):
player used to me, whatever it is, Yeah, it's not
viewed as maybe it should be.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
I'll also say this because I argued this on on
one of the shows that I can't remember if his
minor when I filled in the reason why I think
you saw Tiger play the schedule that he played this
year was because of this apparel deal. Tiger only played
in five tournaments, four of those were majors. The only
other tournament that he played in was here in La
(32:52):
at Riviera, but made the cut at the Masters and
then missed the cut in the next three at the
PGA US Open and Open Championship. I think you're gonna
see him play more over the next couple of years.
But I think that the reason why you saw him
play was because he needed to be out there to
launch this sort of stuff. Even the week prior to
(33:12):
the Open Championship. Last week, there was a new round
of apparel that came out from Tiger that you know,
navy blue more like the Open Championship, and I actually
think that played a role in him competing despite having
zero practically zero reps in any other event.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
I don't think there's any question he did it for
the apparel deal. And look, I didn't think I think
we talked about it. You weren't here. I thought he
would never play golf again. So one of the problems
with how we view Tiger now is like, oh, when's
he gonna retire whatever. Just the fact that he's able
to complete rounds of professional golf is a win considering
how bad the damage to his body has been over
(33:50):
the years, plus obviously the last car accident. Now, as
you get further and further away from that accident, he's
gonna have to be more competitive and you know, make
the cut at more majors to continue, because I just
at some point I think his competitive nature will compel
him to shut it down. But I don't think enough
people are zooming out and remembering just how close in
(34:11):
proximity we are to thinking Tiger might lose a leg,
might have died, might never play professional golf ever again.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Now making a transition from apparel to another sort of apparel,
this is the date we've been waiting for. Mark it
down on your calendars. Sunday, October twenty seventh. That's the
day the Buccaneers will wear their creamsicle uniforms in a
divisional showdown against the Atlanta Falcons. Last year the Lions,
where the opponent for the Buccaneers kind of gave some
(34:38):
old NFC Central vibes. This time it's the Buccaneers and
Falcons on October twenty seventh, with the Bucks wearing their creamsicles.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
I love the cream Schools. I've always loved the cream Schools,
even back when people made fun of the creamsicles. I
think it's really interesting on how the cream Schools now
represent retro cool whereas previously and you have to be
of our age Dan to know this, Like the Buccaneers
when they wore the creamsticles were the laughing stock of
the NFL right when they you know, when John McKay
was their coach, they were it was a clown show.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
Yep, so this is what Chris Berman called them.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Sure, yes, they used to be in the same division. Yeah,
NFC Central Tampa and Green Bay used to be in
the same division. That's a crazy one.
Speaker 7 (35:26):
The uh the cream circles are kind of like members
only jackets. They were so popular in the eighties and
now when you see somebody wear one, you think that
they might be homeless.
Speaker 5 (35:36):
Come on, I thought it was the other way around.
I thought, thought that's it.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
I think the other way around. Yeah, the cream schools
were not popular back then. They were. They were like
a laughing stock, whereas members only jackets were popular. Now
that you remember jacket people go like, yeah, uh.
Speaker 5 (35:56):
Brandon a.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Training camp for the San Francisco forty despite requesting a trade,
John Lynch saying that they fully expect Auk to be
a forty nine er and be a part of this team,
and also had this to say.
Speaker 10 (36:09):
I take a lot of pride in having things done
so that our team can focus on the job at hand,
and it hurts me when that's not always done. At
this time of year, so I understand that, but I
think we're in a Fortunately, we've got a lot of
talented players and we've rewarded a lot, so that it
does become more challenging in time when you've rewarded so
many players. So that's also why this is a very
good team that has such high expectations.
Speaker 5 (36:33):
So we paid everybody. But Brandon Ayuk is what he's saying.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Look, I think the thing is like they want to
play brand Ayuk. Bran Ayuk wants to be played like
a number one wide receiver, and the don't view as a
number one wide receiver. Is that Is that fair?
Speaker 5 (36:45):
Right? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (36:47):
And by the way of somebody else who go ahead, No, I.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Was also going to say that this team is going
to undergo a transition at some point in the next
two or three years when you have to pay brock
party and Christian McCaffrey isn't Christian McCaffrey anymore. So I
think I think they're trying to decide their identity at
that point, and I think that that identity maybe is
without Brandon Ayuk, and I don't I'm I'm.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
A little surprised by it.
Speaker 3 (37:10):
But that's where I also think that this, and plus
they're all in this year like they have to win
the Super Bowl this year otherwise I think that that
window really really gets close to shutting with this current
iteration of this team.
Speaker 2 (37:25):
I completely and totally agree. And that is the press.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
I get out there and pressed.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
That was the press, all right minded. The Doug Goatleeb
Show podcast will be available at the top of the hour,
plus the podcast only version of it. Still no Jordan
Love deal, but my guess is by the time we
turn on the air airwaves tomorrow at three o'clock Eastern time,
I think that deal will be done. I just I
(37:54):
just do. In the meantime, this is the Gotlieb Show.
