Speaker 2 (00:35):
Randy Mueller is going to join us upcoming in thirty minutes.
But what we're gonna do is, uh, we're gonna welcome
in a special guest. And actually, not only am I
so happy for him and his family, but also, like,
look right now, he's the SoundBite everybody's talking about from
Big ten media days. He's the new head coach of

(00:57):
the UCLA Bruins. He's Deshaun Foster, former Ruin himself, former
first round draft pick at the Carolina Panthers. And hey,
he's a former Tuestin Tiller and for a period of
time he's my teammate at Testin. He was a freshman,
I was a senior. He played basketball as well as
being an absolute star and football. Ran for over three
thousand yards his senior year running the running the wing.

(01:17):
Tea Sean, how are you?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
I'm great.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
How you doing, bro, I'm good man. I know we're
supposed to catch up in LA. Obviously I get a
coaching job, You get a coaching job, and we'll we'll,
we'll figure it out. I gotta I gotta ask. Everyone's
talking about like you're opening salvo where it felt like
you had a bunch you wanted to say and you're
just like, hey, I'm just I'm just happy and yeah,

(01:41):
UCLA and USC in LA. Was that plan, Like what
happened with the opening salvo.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Well, we wanted to give them more chances to ask
me questions than me talking to that.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Okay, so was planned. You just didn't know how to
get to that. You don't know how to get to
the transition of hey, I'm here, ask away, I'm good,
You're you're you know, you know for now on you
could say like, look, I'm a number two chair guy
the two chair, and radio is the reaction chair. Ask
me anything, I'll tell you what you want to know.
Is that fair?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
That's exactly it?

Speaker 2 (02:11):
What was it like to go from Okay, because Chip leaves,
you're going to be the Raiders running back coach, and
then you circle back and now you're the head coach
of your alma mater. What was that month or so?

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Like?

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well, it was only like three days, so.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
But there was there was the lead up, if forgive me, Deshaun,
because it was the lead up of Chip kind of
letting it out there like hey, he'd take an offensive
coordinator job, and I thought like, no way, what So
so take me through what it was like she'd liked
for you.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
So I hear coaches leaving and then well no, not yet.
I actually took the Raiders off first.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Right, yeah, so so about about what day is this?
Do you remember that you took the Raidersoh, this.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Is like tuesday. This is Tuesday, I take the Raiders job.
I think coach left like a Thursday. No, a Wednesday. No,
I took the job on Monday. Coach left Wednesday. I
ended up getting hired Sunday.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Okay, so you get hired, so you take the job,
and then you're like, you take a job, what happens?

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I see coach, I see coach ends up taking off
of the coordinator job at Ohio State, and I'm like whoa.
And then that's when the school called me and we
did the zoom we zoomed. They interviewed me. I didn't
think anything else because I just talked to Okay, that's
just a They're just interviewing the coaches. Then they called
me and we did a face to face and then

(03:39):
that's when I was like, Okay, things are getting serious.
I ended up killing that and then Super Bowl Sunday,
Martin called me and was like, hey would love to
meet with you to sit down and talk. We sat
down and talked after the game was over, and definite.
They let me know I'm gonna be the next head
coach of Ushila.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
What's that feel like?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
It was unreal? You know, it was totally unreal. It
was just something that you can you can't put it
into work, you know, being being able to be the
head coach that'ster all my mother is just something that
you're not sure as as obtainable, can you know. I'm
just fired up I'm just fired up about it.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Who's your first call?

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Well?

Speaker 3 (04:19):
I called my wife and then what did she say?

Speaker 4 (04:23):
She was just fired up.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Well she kind of knew because when I left, she said,
I think you're about to get hired, and I was like, don't.
Let's just see what happens. And then, you know, he
told me they could be great news. And then I
called my wife on my way home and called my
parents up to that.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
What'd your parents say?

Speaker 3 (04:42):
My dad was fired up. It was just fired up.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
You know.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
I didn't really tell a lot of people about the
process or anything, so I didn't want to, you know,
get too far ahead of myself, so I just kept
I was keeping close to the best and.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Told to new people, well, you and I are like
very dissimilar in terms of sport and locate, but similar
in this. You know, people look at UCLA and they're like,
well Chip on the left because Chip left because they
don't have the nil that they're not they're not they
can't compete, you know, UCLA too much about academics. You know,
stadium is now going to be half full with big

(05:14):
ten fans. I'm at Green Bay and people say, hey,
you know, not enough investment financially not enough nil. How
do you combat that where people come to the conclusion
without ever seeing you practice, without ever seen your team play,
that you can't compete because you don't have the money.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah, it's just outside noise. You just can't get caught
up in it. You know, we probably able to keep
on our top B tackle and you know, Texas offer
them a lot of money and we were able to
keep them. So everything isn't really always just about money.
You know, relationships do go the long way, and being
being coached up and knowing that you're going to get
developed go a long way.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Else on it.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah, how much of that is what you play on
because we do the same thing right, We sit there
and go like, hey, look, you know one you can
play here where you're going to somebody else is going
to pay you to sit. And the real money is
if you play right. And the other part is if
you're used in a way in which you can really
be successful. What do you use the same thing?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yes, I use the exact same thing, the exact same thing.
You know, I'm just huge in development. You know you're
not already ready already just ready to go. You got
to get developed town. You know, no other place that
want to be developed in.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Listen. I know you open up in Hawaii, which is great, right,
you get to get an Hawaii trip, But you play
at LSU, at Penn State at Nebraska. Are you on
a suicide mission here?

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Like? Can you?

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I mean, why are you playing LSU when you have
to go to Penn State and Nebraska as well?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
I know, I know, but you know, we don't turn
down any games. So I'm just excited that we're you know,
we're got a chance to play. They came to the
Roseball couple years ago. You know, we got after a
pretty bad so I know they're looking forward to Oh.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I'm sure they. I'm sure they are. Hopefully it's a
big game, not a night game. I do have to ask, Okay,
you guys ran wing tea in high school, right, you
had like thirty two hundred yards rushing. Is the wing
tea at all in the offensive package?

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (07:17):
It is?

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Oh my god, I can't wait.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Oh my gosh, I can't I can't wait. It has
to there has to be some level like who prepares
for wing tea?

Speaker 6 (07:27):
Right?

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Exactly exactly, dude.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Teams are thrown out there, eight nine defensive backs. We'll
run wing tea and we'll just line up in our
big uglies. We'll take care of business. That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
What are you going to do?

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Nothing you're gonna do? You better be able to block
and tackle. You better be able to tackle somebody because
they're coming at you. Last thing, I know, you got
to go, and I appreciate your time to Sean. Coolest
thing about this experience.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Just being at my alma mater, you know, just getting
the support. I already had a lot of support being
a player here too, so just now being a head coach,
it's kicked up. Not just so I'm just a credit
Ford well man.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
I can't wait to see you when you guys will
have to I have to get there to see a game.
I'm trying to think you don't play. You don't play
Wisconsin this year. I'll get out there to see a game.
I gotta see my guy, my Test and Tyler going
and code coach and ball. I don't know, you know,
my sister was the UCLA cheerleader. So I've been in
more games the Brose Bowl than any so, so I
do have some some a clapp in my blood. Listen, best,

(08:23):
best of luck and again just for facts, okay that
the plan was to open up to questions, right that
because everybody's talking about Trope and South. That was the plan.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yes, okay, man.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I have a great day. Congrats on the job. Let's
catch up in personal soon, all right, for sure, you bro. Thanks.
That's de Sean Foster, head coach u c l A. Bruins. Okay,
he's he's joining us here on the Doug Gottlib Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, I uh I do you
do you guys know, Sam, do you know what the
wing tea is? Like, I mean again, do you do

(08:58):
you have any idea what that offense is? It's like
one of the oldest offenses in football.

Speaker 7 (09:02):
Is there is there like is there like seven linemen
on the line, Like it's just like a lot of
big moving bodies and maybe a little misdirection. It's it's
an old offense.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
It's it's yeah, it's very little. So see, yes, yes,
it's like I have to go go and look. But
remember with the high school team he played on, Okay,
had Sam Baker, who of course played at SC and
then played for the Falcons. Had Frosty Rucker played at
s C and then played mostly for the Cincinni Bengals
in the NFL. Uh they had at one time they

(09:35):
had more pros from test High School than any other
high school in the country. And it was all right
there in a couple of years. And but they ran
the wing tea and the wing t is basically like
when they talk about student body left, student body right,
USC football right and back in the day it was
you have basically a T formation in your backfield and yeah,
you run like a belly fake or whatever to one

(09:57):
side and then you basically pitch it out and then
everybody blocks to the right side like we're going on
swooping and yes, and then everything and then every once
in a while you pull it back and you know
you can chuck it deep because they commit they got
to commit both safeties uh in there. And so he
ran for like thirty two hundred and change like some
crazy record, and then uh, the other like fullback ran

(10:20):
for like fifteen hundred yards like it was. It was nuts.
And you know, then they get to the CIF finals
and lose to one of the private schools, I think
the Santa Margarita, which is where Carson Palmer played, but
outside of that, they would beat the snot out of
out of just about anybody else. But Deshaun is a
great dude. And that's the challenge that he has is
the challenge that so many of us have. At the
college level. There's the haves and the have nots. The

(10:42):
difference is in his league. You know, you got Ohio
State and what they're spending on players is ridiculous. What
they're spending on his former head coach is is ridiculous.
But I'll be interested. I'll be interested to see if
you if he can compete, If he can compete, we
got to get to here in the Doug Gotlib Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Rapid Radios is an instant push

missed it. Okay, I want to play for you really quickly,
Deshaun Foster. So you just heard from him and he
said like, look, this was planned. I mean, I don't
think it went as planned, but the idea was to
open it up to questioning. And here was his opening statement,
the first one in UCLA history, in front of the

(11:46):
Big Ten media.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
UCLA in a Big ten where a school that's won
what one hundred and twenty three championship so does fits
as being right in this conference football wise, which is excited.
You know.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
I'm sure you guys don't know too much about u
c l A but our football program.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
But we're in LA, it's us in usc.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
We got we gotta work on the film material there.
I'll open it up to questions. Yeah, you gotta go.
I'm opening up to questions. It happens, it happens. So

(12:38):
but Jay suh, he's getting crushed on social media.

Speaker 6 (12:43):
But yeah, and I think I'm gonna put it on
the handler. Whoever his handler was, did not inform him
that you should probably say something, you know, have something prepared.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
Well.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Just yeah, that's that's one of those deals where uh yeah,
but they just want to open questions. Hey, I could
talk forever about UCLA football. I'm better at answering anything
you want to know. You know, you don't even have
to have an opening salvo. But and you know, none
of that. It lasts for like a day or two days,

(13:17):
and somebody else is going to say something and we'll
go on. But Deshaun's a great dude, and obviously he
was an amazing athlete, and we wish him nothing but
but success. Yes, yes, they're Sammy.

Speaker 7 (13:29):
Well, we all remember how clunky and awkward Nick Sirianni
of the Eagles, how his uh what it was? His
I think opening introductory press conference got off to a
weird start, and then he totally redeemed himself and forgot
about that when he went on to you know what
was this playoff appearance in his first season?

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, went to a well obviously to a to a
super Bowl, and then even what's the what's the Cardinal's
head coach?

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Like he was?

Speaker 2 (13:52):
He was awkward too, who also came from the Eagles.
By the way, he had the he had the really
weird not just presser, but some of their videos that
they released and then some of the stuff in front
of the team Jonathan Gannon. Yeah, you were like, what,
but again, doesn't really matter, No, it doesn't doesn't really matter,

(14:13):
but it is. It is funny and obviously I think
he knew that question was coming without us even telling
him that question was coming.

Speaker 8 (14:22):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on

tied buying should be. Jamar Chase sat down with NFL
Media and he had this exchange about who the best
quarterback in the game.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
Is who is the player. I'm not saying him.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
I get credit when with due, but I'm not saying
his name.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
Yeah you do. I'm not saying his name. Brother, I'm sorry,
Joe Burrow. I'm not saying that guy's name.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
He's good, he's amazing, he's good.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
Not gonna lie. I'm salty, though, I'm a little salty
two years in a row. But I'm putting Burrough first.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yeah, I mean, basically, he's just saying, like, look, the
Burrow's my guy. You know, Burrow's my guy. What else
can I what else guys say other than Burrow is
my guy? And that's actually a ton of respect for
Pat Mahomes. I've said this before and I say it again,
Like I understand Brady right now is considered the greatest

(15:58):
of all time. I think a really good argument to
be made for you know, it's interesting, before Brady went
on his late Super Bowl run, there was a lot
of talk when Peyton retired about Payton being the best.
I was always a Brady guy just because of what
he did in the playoffs, but also you know, Aaron Rodgers.
But Rogers, though he's had the productivity in the regular
season and the MVPs. You know, for a bunch of

(16:19):
different reasons, hasn't had the success in the playoffs. And
I just I don't think he'll ever get to that conversation.
Maybe most talented quarterback ever, and he's performed well in
many big, tough situations, But how can you manage how
can you match that versus ten super Bowls and six titles?
I just don't seven titles. I don't think you can.

(16:42):
Stug Gottlieb show. You're on Fox Sports Radio. Let's talk
to NFL football, shall we. Randy Mueller joins this former
NFL Executive of the Year. Course he was a general
manager of the Saints and the Dolphins. He's the host
of the Football GM podcast on the with the Athletic Rady.
I want to start with Jordan Love because obviously the

(17:04):
contract's not signed yet. Feels like they're you know, picked
the yard line whatever. He's he's there, he's just not participating.
So they're close. But considering the one eighty everyone has done,
and if the Packers and look, I've got to know
Brian Gunnicans, I like him a great deal. They look
like they're going to you know, win any of this

(17:25):
argument over what anyone would have thought was the right
decision or wrong decision in drafting Jordan Love. But last
year they offered him I think eight million or so
in change on a one year extension. Right, they didn't
They hadn't picked up the fifth the fifth year, and
so it wasn't like they heaped all this money at
him that he had to prove it.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
He did.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Now it's going to be in the fifty million dollar variety.
How would you what what levels would you go to
to retain Jordan Love and to get cost certainty? If
you were Brian Gunnekins.

Speaker 5 (17:54):
Well, I think they're an agreement of where they're at.
I think it's just a little bit about structure and guaranteed.
If it were me, I think there's no question you're
going to pay the guy. He's probably going to reset
the market, and you've got a grin and bear at
this point. He showed you enough and flashes last year
to know what you're getting. So I'm not sure where
they're at in detail, but it sure sounds like you

(18:15):
said they're close. I think this deal will top all
of them, and I wouldn't have any regrets if I
was the Packers or Brian GOODI because I think they've
found their guy and they ought to reward him. And
you're right, the fixed costs and the plan going forward
will allow them to build around him, and they'll have
to have some innovative parts to this that still allow

(18:36):
them to add to the roster. But that's the beauty
of signing a long term deal. You can play with
some gap numbers that allow you to still build.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, what
about Tua in comparison.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
Well, I'm at a little different level with Tua, just
because if we know the jurability factors, we know where
he has been in the past with medical stuff, and
that's always going to be a concern for me. The
other thing is, I think they're a different level of
quarterback skill wise as well. Jordan Love can make plays
in and outside the pocket. He can make plays beyond
the structure of the offense. I haven't seen enough of

(19:15):
Tua outside the pocket making plays on his own. He's
a very good executor of maybe the quickest release and
most accurate medium the short range thrower, but I don't
see that same skill set. They can take the offense
to another level like a Jordan's Love, and I think
that's probably the rub in their negotiation. I think the

(19:37):
Dolphins know that they're willing to have given him an extension.
It's just I don't think going to be that fifty
to fifty five million dollars deal, and to that end,
they have him for really another year and in a
franchise tag if they so deserve. So there's a little
bit of leverage still in the Dolphins camp. I don't
think that the Packers in Love's case, are going to

(20:00):
use leverage. I think they know enough to extend at
the higher level.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Stut Gottlieb Show Here on Fox Sports Radio. Randy Bueller
is our guest and he has just unbelievable insight for us. Okay,
give me a read on Brandon Ayuk. Right, he's in
the last year of his deal. He wants to be traded.
Today he was kind of pulled off the practice field
to go and meet with execs. What do you think

(20:25):
happens in San Francisco.

Speaker 5 (20:28):
I think eventually he'll sign a deal, Doug, I really do.
I think the money that he has coming is good money,
but it is a solid year of a contract. So
his choices are, do I end up playing for the
seventeen eighteen million, whatever that number is. I think that's
close to it, or do I sign an extension at
twenty five, twenty six, whatever it is. I don't think
he's going to be able to reset the market. If

(20:49):
he wants to, he probably should go back and play
for the number this year and he'll have a chance
to reset it next year. I've always struggled with his
perception of where he that within the window of resetting
the market. We started hearing about his worry about his
contract last year as soon as the Super Bowl was over,
So I don't know that that's, you know, been realistic

(21:11):
for him. I think he will get paid. I think
he'll end up making the deal. I'm not a big
fan of these hold ins, and that's where he's at
because I do think the team loses some leverage when
everybody's hanging around and it's all kumbai yaw in training camp.
I think I'm maybe a little old school in that
those holdouts when the player wasn't there, I think tended
to help them benefit the club. But we are where

(21:34):
we are. I think they'll get something done. And I
think he'll get done and fairy soon.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
To be honest with you, Stut Gottleib Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, I mean, I guess. I guess
The question is, at what point, when you're the general
manager are you cautious of Hey, guy doesn't like his situation.
I understand there in last year of a contract deal,
but you know every guy. If you give in to

(21:57):
every guy, then every guy who's in the last year
of his deal is going to come and sit in
or sit out, you know what I mean?

Speaker 5 (22:05):
Yeah, the president is really what these decisions are about.
It's one the money, sure, and then negotiating the money
is always going to be there. But I agree with
you these hold in how you handle these negotiations. Who
we redo? You're finding that in Dallas right now with
Jerry Jones. They've set precedent in that they have redone deals.
They've rewarded holdouts in the past to why not hold out?

(22:27):
I think this is a big decision for the forty
nine ers and they want to keep by Uk in
the loop. I think he's their best receiver, so trading
him isn't really an option, and they know they haven't.
I think they're trying to hug him up a little
bit until they can get a deal done and keep
them all in the same room so that it doesn't
get ugly. And I think that'll happen. John Minch is smart,
Kyle Shanahan smart, They'll get it done.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Stug Gottliebs Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, let's
get to the brass tacks of of what people really
want to know, like who's going to be good, who's
not going to be that good? Right, let's go to
the Jets, you know, once again and lead the offseason
in off season chatter. Last year it was acquiring Aaron Rodgers,
then he was mister New York. This year it's Aaron Rodgers, Like, eh,
do I have to be there? Don't want to be there?

(23:11):
You know, it's son Reddicks sitting out right now. I'm
sure he'll end up, you know, coming coming back and
being in Give me, give me your honest thoughts on
what the Jets, assuming Aaron Rodgers is whatever level of
healthy you can get, assuming they have anybody who's sitting
out or holding out, how good actually can they be?

Speaker 5 (23:30):
I think they have a chance to be decent. Doug.
I'm not of the oak fit there in the elite
super Bowl contending position. I'm not drinking that kooling too
many what ifs for me. They're they're banking on some injured,
some old uh, some questions about their offense in general,
with the guy who calls the place, all of that

(23:52):
has to come together. So there's a bit too many
what ifs for me to really drink the Jets kool
aid that they've got it all sold. I just they
pick got questions at all levels, including the offensive line,
including a quarterback, including the coach. That's just too many
fingers to stick in the dike. I don't know if
they have enough fingers, So I'm not sold on where
the Jets are going to be. I guess time will tell.

(24:16):
But if there ever was a team that's won all
in for one year, they've done it, and time will
tell if that's the route to take. There's been a
long time getting there. This is really Joe's the GM.
Joe Juggles is year six of a rebuild, so no
one can say they haven't had a chance. So it's
all or nothing for everybody, and they really like that.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
We Stut Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. We know
Mike Tomlin's gonna get his team close to five hundred, right,
He hasn't ever finished below five hundred. But now you
go and you try and throw a lifeline to Russell Wilson.
And basically this is three head coaches, three head coaches
in three years that have thrown up their hands and said,

(24:58):
can't do it right Seattle, for whatever you know he
wanted out, they were good walking away from him, and
then two in Denver couldn't make it work. What leads
you to believe they can make it work in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 5 (25:11):
I think one good thing he has going for him
is that Arthur Smith's offense is a pretty good fit
for him. The thing that works against that for me
for Russell is that I think Justin field sits the
offense way better than him. So they can say what
they want about not making this a competition. I think
if Justin's and I'm not the greatest Justin fields fan,

(25:31):
but I am a fan of his skill set, and
if he can find a way to get the ball out,
there's no better fit than him with Arthur Smith's offense.
So I think that is the pressure and the rub
as much as anything as it is Ken Russ Cook again,
because I think those days are over. I do like
the identifying what we are. Pulman has always done a

(25:52):
great job of that, and I think Russ might fit
with that. But I think that playmaking ability and the
leticism of Justin Fields is gonna make this a hard decision.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Okay, the Chargers have decided. Obviously, you go with Harbaugh,
no problem, okay, But if you bring in an offensive
system which look got the Bills to the playoffs for
the first time in like thirteen years, got the Niners
two within one play of the Super Bowl, got the
I mean Lamar Jackson's first MVP was in the system.

(26:27):
But it doesn't totally feel like a fit for Justin Herbert.
Running the football does right, gives him time and the
improvement of the offensive line. But how do you think
it works with this offense and Justin Herbert.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
I think it's a pretty good fit. I'll be honest
with you. There's some things that Greg Roman and that
offense has done throughout his years in the league that
I think the matchup pretty good with Herbert's skill set,
So I'm okay with that. I think that the match
or the disconnect is I just don't know if they
have enough players or especially in the Predator, to spread
the field. I love the identity that hard Bob brads.

(27:05):
The fact that they will run the ball will make
life easier for Justin Herbert. I just don't know if
they have enough ability to score without having to drive
the ball for ten or twelve plays, because that's hard
to do in the NFL. So that's my question with them.
The tackle Joe All gives them really a guy who

(27:25):
helps them in an area where they really need. I
think he can he helps them define what they are
on offense because he's big, he's tough, he's physical at
a position where that's hard to come by. So I
like the move, the interior, I like the running game,
the people they've signed. I'm just looking for big playability,
and I don't know how much of that's out there.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Richardson's back obviously with Indianapolis Colts. I don't know if
you're a buyer out of college. But now he has
a couple of games under his belt. Of course, then
he missed a bunch of time with injury. What's your
perspective on what he'll look like here?

Speaker 5 (27:56):
Two I think the best thing about Ricky quarterbacks dugs
when they get year two. Get to year two, I
think he'll have a better grasp on the system. This
has been inexperienced but phenomenal athlete, and he needs to play.
He needs every rep. It'll be interesting to see how
they get him through preseason. We see teams sometimes resting

(28:18):
quarterbacks in preseason. I think this kid has to play
every down if you can that they're willing to risk him.
He needs time on the task, and I think once
we see more of him, we'll see everything that they
have seen to this point. So I like Richardson from
the standpoint of where he could go. There's just a
lot of water that's kind of flow into the bridge

(28:38):
to get in there. Who knows how long that's going
to take.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Randy Muellers, our guest here on the Doug Gotlieb Show
on Fox Sports Radio, Well, you talk about not in
the necessarily speed outside of the numbers, but a lot
of incoming talent. I think we're going to head down
and see the Bears next week. You bring in Kayleb Williams,
and this is like Matty Eberflu's They made a lot
of changes defense mid season last year fixed some things.
Now complete overhaul offensively like complete overhaul. What do you

(29:06):
think that looks like when the Bears take the field.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
I love what the Bears have done. I just don't
know if they're going to be ready for prime time yet.
I think my Strogg would be still with the offensive line,
I'm not as big a fan of what they have
going up front as probably most Bear fans are. I
think Caleb is really a special talent. I think the
thing he gives them is patients within the pocket and

(29:32):
the ability to escape and make plays on the run.
That's something that they haven't had he'll have. He'll show
them things inside the pockets that they haven't seen in
a long time in that city. And I know that
doesn't he doesn't get enough credit for that at USC
because he ran for his life half the time. But
this kid's an NFL passer and that excites me. So
I think they're going to be better and improved. I

(29:55):
just don't know how much we're going to see initially,
because they're going to have to find a way to
keep k upright, and I'm not sure that can happen
right now with this group.

Speaker 2 (30:04):

Speaker 8 (31:04):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Monty blang is what you got?

Speaker 9 (31:14):
Well, it is hump Day so what are we playing, Sam?

Speaker 8 (31:17):
For better or worse?

Speaker 10 (31:19):
All right, coach, we're gonna give you some things to compare.
You're gonna tell me for better or for worse when
it comes to the two, all right, Doug, for better
or for worse?

Speaker 9 (31:29):
Big ten football or SEC football?

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Big ten football or SEC football SEC football.

Speaker 9 (31:40):
That was a good question, mark.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
I mean, no, I don't actually, I don't even know
if it's close. Right, Michigan did win the championship, but
in totality SEC football, and look, Ohio State went and
spent a ton of money, not just bringing Chip Kelly

(32:02):
but also with their recruits. But again, if you go
top to bottom, and I know, you bring in USC
and you bring in Organ which massively upgrades. And of
course Washington had a great year although new coaching staff,
and you know you lose an incredible quarterback.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
I just.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
I don't know. I don't think it's totally close at
all in regards to the overall talent. Right. You compare,
for example, how many players were drafted, right, how many
players were drafted out of the SEC. It was twenty

(32:43):
five last year in a down year in the first
four rounds, whereas it was twenty out of the Big ten.
So you know, I know they upgraded and they improved,
bringing inn SC and bringing in UCLA and bringing in
an organ and bringing in Washington. But I don't think
they'll ever get to point. Remember so did the SEC.
The SEC added Texas and Oklahoma. There's a ton of

(33:04):
pros in those teams.

Speaker 10 (33:05):
Yeah, all right, let's move on here. So Trent Williams
is not reported to training camp. This is the latest
reports for the offensive tackle of the forty nine ers.

Speaker 9 (33:15):
So, Doug, for.

Speaker 10 (33:15):
Better or worse, Penny Sewell or Trent Williams, I'm.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
Gonna go Trent Williams. I know Penny is a lot younger,
but Trent Williams is a badass.

Speaker 10 (33:31):
Yeah, he is, as simple as that.

Speaker 9 (33:34):
I like it. I like it, all right, let's move
on here.

Speaker 10 (33:38):
I like this one from our intern Dean, So I'm
gonna give him credit for it.

Speaker 9 (33:41):
It's a good one, Okay. For better or for worse.

Speaker 10 (33:44):
More international games in the NFL or fewer, I will
go with.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
More NFL games or fewer. More NFL games or fewer,
I'm gonna go with fewer international games.

Speaker 9 (34:15):
Few were international games.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
I mean, I know they're only gonna add more.

Speaker 9 (34:18):
Yeah, but I hear you.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
I don't mind it because I may go more. Yeah,
you know what, let me change it. I'll go more.
And here's why.

Speaker 9 (34:27):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Do you love watching football on Sundays? Yeah, okay, so
instead of watching three different scheduled games or time, you
just add in a fourth.

Speaker 9 (34:37):
That's true.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
So it just and I know, like your West Coast,
Now I'm Central time zone. So now I wake up
and football is gonna be on right right right where
like East Coast, Remember that early game starts at like ten,
you know here it'll start at nine, So you just
go like from nine to noon to three to you know,
like six thirty like game game, game, game game, It's

(34:59):
all all day. So I guess more, you know, I
again for the players, more and more, and he does
screw up, like you lose a home game. So you're like, man,
I paid all this money, but you have more.

Speaker 9 (35:11):
Yeah, more for sure? Okay, all right? For better or worse?

Speaker 10 (35:15):
Doug to a tugo by Lois supporting cast on the
offensive side of the ball, or Caleb Williams supporting Cast.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
To a tongue about or Caleb Williams oh to a
tongue by Lois.

Speaker 10 (35:29):
Yeah, because Tyreek Hill, I mean more than just more
than just Tyreek.

Speaker 9 (35:37):
Yeah, yeah they do that.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Yeah dudes, they got mostered, Yeah right, he mostered right Yeah,
Jalen Waddle like they got dudes on that offensive side
of the ball.

Speaker 9 (35:50):
Yeah, Devon chan Chan.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Yeah yeah, I mean he had an awesome year and
they went out and had another running back like yeah,
I don't think it's really close.

Speaker 9 (36:01):
No, yeah, for sure with you on that one. All right,
let's move on here. For better or for worse? Doug
Deadpool or Wolverine? Are you gonna watch the movie Deadpool? Deadpool?

Speaker 2 (36:14):
I love those?

Speaker 9 (36:16):
But is it because the way Ryan Reynolds portrays him?
Do you think that's why we all love him so much?

Speaker 2 (36:22):
What do you mean by like, it's not based on
a true story and Ryan, it's Ryan Reilds portrayal.

Speaker 10 (36:27):
But it's he does have his his way of, you know,
portraying Deadpool.

Speaker 9 (36:32):
You don't think so, I know what you're saying, but
I feel like he makes it.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Yes, yes, he is not portraying Deadpool. Deadpool is not
like a character that like, it's not like Batman. There's
been like ten different Batman's You're like, oh, I love
Christian Bale the best, Like, there's only one Deadpool. Renan
Relds kind of created this whole thing.

Speaker 9 (36:48):
True, that's I hear what you're saying. Yes, yeah, I'm.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Arguing semantics more than yeah. Of course it's Ryan Relds.
I mean Hugh Jackman, Ryan Roulds, and I know Wolvering
is just kind of a badass. But no, Deadpool. Well, yeah,
we're going it comes out tomorrow, I believe.

Speaker 10 (37:02):
I think so the twenty fifth No, yeah, twenty six something.

Speaker 9 (37:06):
Yes, yes, that sounds right about right. I'm very excited.

Speaker 10 (37:09):
Okay, quick, Quinn here for better or for worse Clipper
fans or Paul George.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
Clipper fans.

Speaker 9 (37:15):
Yeah, that's right. I hate Paul George.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
Both of you.

Speaker 9 (37:21):
That's game time.

Speaker 8 (37:25):
This is game time on The Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
