How you doing? You do understand what this is? The
last week?
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Have right?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
You had this last week last week? Have no football
on TV? No football on TV. Hall of Fame game
is next week, so we'll have football on television in
the meantime. Yeah, in the meantime, let's get you to
some of the stories and storylines that are I think
more pertinent right now.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Don't get me wrong. I can't wait to see what
Ceedee Lamb gets in terms of money. I don't really care.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I mean Ceedee Lamb's gonna be a Cowboys, gonna play
for the Cowboys. It's because the question of do is
you play this year in the fifth year option, likely
with a contract extension, et cetera, et cetera. The Olympic
Opening ceremonies are tonight in Paris, France, and it's one
(01:37):
of those and guys, if you don't mind, we'll talk
about this on the pod. Some remember the ind The
bonus podcast is available right after this show. Just typing
Doug got download podcast. The opening ceremonies is it's one
of those things. It's way more for the athletes than
for anybody else, you know, But the games themselves what's interesting. Yeah,
(02:03):
Jim Nasa is going to be interesting. We'll pay attention
to swimming for a moment, you know, for a week
that it's taken place. Track and field is always cool.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
They have some new ones like breakdancing. I don't know
how you get great breakdancing whatever, and I give a
gold medal in breakdancing. But basketball, I think is going
to be a really hotly contested tournament. And on paper,
if you look at the names of who we have,
(02:33):
it's a very reasonable conversation in your brain to go well,
this won't be close. You know, over the last ten years,
the three best play, three best American players in the NBA,
or the last fifteen years, Lebron James, Steph Curry, Kevin
Durant all on the team. Throw in Joel Embiid, who
(02:54):
foreign born player naturalized the United States, and you have
four of the absolute elite players in the entire world.
Then you round out the rest of the roster with
the likes of Jason Tatum and Anthony Edwards, and you're like,
this is a rap. Why would any of the games
be relatively close? And yet every warm up game, every
(03:16):
friendly is just that, it's exceedingly close.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
And so you're trying to rack your head because you're sitting.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
There going like, well, you know, our guys, they don't
play together all year. Neither you're theirs, you know, neither
you're theirs. Now, some of them do come together and
play together during national team time every year, but many
of them, the NBA players do not.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
You know, the French players don't. They all play scattered.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Now, did they grow up playing together, sure, but it's
not like they train, they live, they travel the country
the world playing games together all year long. No they
get together, they got a couple, just like we do,
and they go and play, and yet they seem a
lot closer despite the fact their personnel is not close.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
How is that true? And I do think some of
it is, Look, we're not well liked.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
I think we're respected, or actually no, no, let me finish,
let me go back. I think we're liked. I'm not
sure we're respected. I think what happens is the athleticism
that we have across the board in basketball gets diminished
some based upon one the fact that it's a way
(04:37):
more physical game, the style of the other rules and
how they're how.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
They're officiated or adjudicator or whatever.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
And you know, some of the some of the ways
in which players sell calls and play whatever kind of
balances the playing field. My point is we're getting ready
for the Olympics, and if you just looked at the rosters, you.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Go, this is dumb.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
It's gonna be USA and Canada and nobody else even close.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Maybe France.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
And the fact is that Canada, I don't think they're
nearly as close as people think. And France has always
been disappointing in these things until recently. It is a
very rugged style. It is a different style of basketball
and it's gonna be fascinating to see Australia and Serbia.
(05:28):
I mean, we saw South Sudan give us trouble. I'm
excited for it. But as the favorite, and we've always
considered ourselves a country of underdogs, it's just a different
way to view basketball, in a different way to hope
we win, despite the fact that our talent on an
individual basis appears to be way better. You know, Jason,
(05:49):
you asked a question earlier this week, okay, about who
you're cheering for in the women's game, and I wonder
how many of us are going to do the same
in the men's game. Are We have more on this
discussion a second though. First, let's welcome to our good
friend Dan Byer. He's back, obviously after doing a lot
of other shows. Could be in a rich one of them,
as well as filling in for me yesterday. Dan's got
(06:09):
breaking news, Dan what he got?
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Breaking news from Fox Sports.
Speaker 5 (06:16):
To a tongue of Iloa and the Miami Dolphins have
agreed to terms on a new four year contract where
two hundred and twelve point four million dollars. This according
to multiple reports the average annual salary will break down
to about fifty three point one million dollars per season.
That would be the third highest of any quarterback in
the National Football League, behind Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence,
(06:37):
in just ahead of Jared Goff, whose average salary is
flat at fifty three million, but again to a tongue
of Iloa, who was limited to practice earlier this week,
Doug and then was a full participant today. Now we
know why four year deal two hundred and twelve point
four million dollars according to the NFL Network and ESPN.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
We don't know how much is guaranteed, correc No, we
don't know much. Enta, I gotta tell you, I don't
love it. No one is willing to do what we
all know needs to be done. You know, no one
is willing to do what we all know needs to
(07:16):
be done. I'm sorry, I just I don't see it.
I'm willing to be wrong on this one. I'm not
saying he stinks, but no, it's it's just a bizarre
way of doing business where we put him in the
fifty million dollar category and he's not a fifty million
dollar quarterback. And I actually would think that the truth
(07:37):
is that tuas a guy who if he was on
the open market, I don't think he's getting fifty million dollars.
No one's ever tested that. No one's ever tried that.
He doesn't have great arm strength. We'll see if he
has increased mobility since losing weight. This offseason. He's been
oft injured, and he is surrounded by as much talent
(08:02):
and speed as you're ever gonna find. And so what
happens is, look, this year he'll play under the old
dealt even though he'll get the new money. Next year
it'll kick in and next year becomes the first part
of the challenge of being able to field the type
of elite roster around him. I don't think to a
(08:22):
tongue of Ailoa is anywhere near an elite quarterback.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Just don't. Just don't. Does he stink? No? But everyone
said the same thing.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
He has to have the right coach, the right pieces
around him, the ability to just get it and get
rid of it very quickly. He has to play either
in a dome and warm weather. All these boxes have
to be checked in just so, just the right thing
in order for him to be special. I'm not surprised
(08:56):
because remember the Dolphins brass. One of the reasons they
moved on from flores as their coach was he didn't
believe in Tua. So those guys drafted him. Those guys
believe him. Those guys are the ones that have said
he's our guy, We're sticking with him. And oh yeah,
by the way, you know, Mike McDaniels came in, he
(09:19):
got the job, and he made them believe, Hey, I can.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
Work with him.
Speaker 6 (09:24):
But the.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Bizarre thing is this is what we do. It's like,
it's like, do you guys remember videos of lemmings and
does a lemming translate to.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
People these days? To kids these days?
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Lemmings are a small animal. I think it's there, like
in the gophers, sort of family and they literally will
follow whatever the one in front.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Of them does.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I feel like that's what the Dolphins are doing. Well,
you know, we got to sign this deal. Why why
you mean to tell me that Tua would turn down
another year guaranteed if it was thirty two million dollars
and like, yes, he would really. Okay, you go back
(10:15):
two years ago and people are like, I don't know,
you go back last year, like he's really good, but
it has to be supported. And now the Dolphins are
all in. I don't love it. It feels like those
Lemmings and Lemmings by the way, with the ones. I
don't know if there's a real video. I remember being
kid watching a lemming. One jumps off of like a
(10:36):
cliff and then the others fall right behind.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
There was a video game like that too.
Speaker 7 (10:41):
Yeah, it was a computer game Lemmings.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
There was actually a National Geographic video. We're kids.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
See here's the difference, Sam, When I was a kid,
when you're a kid.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
When I was a kid, we used to get.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
The National Geographic magazines, not just in doctor's offices, but
you have it at school and that's where.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
You could say boy.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
But also there'd be some videos that would come with them,
and you watch them in school someday, and that's where
you learn about lemmings. Don't be a lemming, don't just
be a follower. Don't do something as the person in
front of you did it.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
That's where it feels like the Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Are Be sure to catch the live edition of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
It's Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. We'll get Mark
Dominic on in one second. So, Dan, do you have
any more details?
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Again? Dan Byer joined us breaking.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
News on any more details in case you're just joining
us to a tongue of Iloa is now sign a
contract extension four years. Gargantuan money again on paper, fifty
three million dollars average, but we don't know what any
of the details are. Dan, there are any more details
you've gotten in the last so five minutes or so.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
Essentially, I think has kind of worked around Jared Goff's
contract because there are a lot of similarities in what
Golf signed with the Lions. To your point too, we'll
play the twenty twenty four season under the fifth year option,
worth about twenty three million dollars. Just north of that,
the guarantees are one hundred and sixty seven million dollars.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Goff's deal was worth one
(12:21):
hundred and seventy million dollars in guarantees to his average
annual salary that we mentioned was fifty three point one
million dollars. It's actually just north of Goffs who's going
to be at fifty three million dollars, but that's what
we know with the detail. So really kind of just
beating Golf on the average salary, but just slightly less
(12:42):
in the guarantees for to his contract compared to what
GoF had.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Okay, and like one can say, like, hey, Goff's not
the greatest quarterback in the world, look at his The
one thing that Golf is he hasn't been hurt like
to has been hurt.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
I'm not a huge Jereed Golf fan either.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
He's better playing indoors, but he's also coming off a
monster season where they were, you know, a player two
away from going to a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
So I get it.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
I just I'm just not one of these guys that
thinks that because everybody else is doing it, you have
to do it. No one ever lets their quarterback go
on the on the on the market. And if you
ask GMS, though, I'll say, you know, you're better off
of cost certainty overpay a little bit, but that feels
like overpaying a lot. I haven't heard anybody who I
really really really respect, and well maybe I'm wrong with
(13:32):
Mark Dominical say the exact tops he's gonna join us
a moment because, like you know, too is real, legit,
top five, top eight quarterback. Got to pay him and
he's not at that level, Like it's ninety you're not
paying him. It doesn't mean hey, we'll pay him fifty
three million or zero, but there is a certain certain
why not pay him thirty five? So you keep having
(13:55):
all those players around him, now you're going to lose
one or to those players on him.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
That's inevitable.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Look what's happened to Pat Mahomes for example. This is
going to be fascinating to see right the the Are
you Dan We didn't talk pre show, Jay stew and
I did. Are you in the Olympic opening ceremonies?
Speaker 5 (14:20):
Uh, not so much. It's especially the summer because it's
so long, because there's so many countries. But it's going
on right now. I don't know if I'll rewatch it
again tonight my wife. My wife may want to, but
I don't know if I'll be really into it.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Yeah, Sam, you into it.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
Let's let's come back to this topic. Let's let's get
Mark Dominic coon show.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Let's do it. Mark Dominic sire.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
He joins us in the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox
Sports Radio, Mark, I have no idea.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
If you're I have you been.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Alerted to it, But Dan's updated it us on some
of the details. Basically, the tua tongue of Bailoa signs
the CONTRACTXT and it's somewhere in the Jared Goff variety.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Of of dollar figures.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
As a former general manager with the Tampay Buccaneers, how
does that hate?
Speaker 8 (15:12):
Yet it doesn't surprise me, you know, I think you
and I talked about it last week or the previous week.
I was saying that I didn't think two was going
to get the five year deal. I thought it was
gonna be a three or four year deal because of
the concern that Miami has in terms of the health.
As good as he was last year in terms of
yards and percentage er, you know, there's still the concern
of concussions and could they rare their heads again. And
(15:33):
so this is the compromise. The Dolphins get their quarterback
done that one less year on the deal. Two is
probably understanding of that, and so that's why he doesn't
come in at fifty five million.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
With the Trevor Mullen's numbers.
Speaker 8 (15:46):
It's a little bit more like you said towards the
Trevor to the Jared Golf world, and I think it
all plays out well. I think it's finding a way
to get your quarterback done, but maybe not exposing yourself
to as much caring money as those five year deals
are exposed themselves to. And that's the only way Miami
can try to come back and protect themselves. So in
(16:07):
two years from now, whatever happens sometime from a medical standpoint, they.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Can still survive as an organization and move forward.
Speaker 8 (16:12):
So I think the contract probably comes in right in line,
and I think Jordan loves Camp is probably very happy
to see this.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Okay, So what does it mean for Jordan Love? Yeah, obviously,
as we know that that deal is close to being done,
what do you think this means for him?
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Numbers wise?
Speaker 8 (16:28):
I think Jordan Love is going to be pushing Trevor Lawrence,
and I think they're pushing to be north of Trevor
Lawrence is where I think Jordan Love's trying to get to.
And I know it's just one year of work, but
if I was Jordan Love's agents, it's not my fault
that he's only been able to play one year but
he's had a better one year than Trevor Lawrence has
had a three. And that's the argument that think that
they're going to make, and they're going to sit here
and say two is injury prone. He's missed all these
(16:50):
games and he's at fifty two to fifty three million.
How is my guy not fifty six a year? And
so I think it's that close. It's just that the
Packers want to be the next team to start to
move the ball half a million or a million dollars
more per overall in the deal. But I got to
think that Trevor Lawrence is the Turba Larrens contract is
the bell whether that Jordan Love is trying to say,
(17:11):
I should have a little bit more than that, and
I think that will get done enough. That's done in
the next three days.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
So I guess my question to you is Tua is
a guy. Do you think he gets fifty million dollars
on the open market?
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Like I don't. I get that.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
The win is we didn't give him five years. I
understand that, but I mean, look, he's he's a good quarterback.
He's middle of the pack, you know, and he's surrounded
with elite elee talent, and we know how this thing goes.
Like Pat Mahomes' ability to win last year with that
wide receiving corp is nothing short of miraculous. Tua doesn't
(17:50):
have that, and it's fine you don't. I mean, like
you're talking about one in thirty two has that. But
how come there is no world where no anyone says,
go find that in the open market, especially a guy
who's been injured and the guy has some arm strength
and physical limitations.
Speaker 8 (18:08):
Yeah, you know, I'm not angry with any player that
gets paid and extended in all those things. But I
go back to Trevor Lawrence and say that contract has
spurred everything else by Trevor Lawrence, you know, breaking the
bank and being the second order the whatever, the type
of the highest paid player in the NFL based off
his overall work. It's hard for other quarterbacks to sit
there and say, I'll take less, but not much less,
(18:30):
because if that's the market for a guy that's you know,
never thrown for thirty touchdowns in the NFL, I just
led the league in passing yards. I just I almost
completed seventy percent of my passes last year. And I
know I'm talented with players, but I still got to
put the ball in the right spot for them to
make the play, or you know, those kinds of things
to understand what to do.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
So I don't disagree with you, Doug, like I.
Speaker 8 (18:50):
Think that you know, Trevor Lawrence would struggle to get
fifty in a real open market. But it's because if
you don't have one, it's misery. And I've lived that
life in Tampa. When you know, I've lived a year
without a quarterback and we went four and twelve, and
that's really hard. And when you don't have one, you're
willing to say, what would it be like to have one?
Speaker 6 (19:11):
In Tua.
Speaker 8 (19:12):
I think the injury is the bigger part. I think
the talent maybe you know below what some of these
other quarterbacks have, But at the same point, the reason
why they get drafted, you know, six in the top twelve,
and the reason why now it's fifteen million dollars a
year for a good quarterback, it's suddenly because you just
realize that you have to have one to even have
a chance to keep your job and be competitive in
(19:32):
this league.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Stug got leave show here on Fox Sports Radio, and
Mark Dominic is in fact our guest. All right, what
about Ceedee Lamb. He's in the fifth year of his
rookie contract, he's sitting out. Yeah, have Dak's contract on
the horizon as well. How do Cowboys handle this?
Speaker 6 (19:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (19:53):
I think I think Ceedee Lambs gets done, but I
think it's going to get done a little bit later
the Cowboys. The Cowboys like to negotiate with people that
show up to camp first if they can. There's one
difference between the franchise tag where you if you don't
get a deal done before the franchise tag, you just
can't talk deals anymore. There's another mole in the fifth
year option, where you can wait. I think they'll get
a deal done, probably faster with Michael Parsons because he's there,
(20:15):
and they're going to want to make a point again
that we negotiate with the guys that show up at camp.
There's no way they're not going to get Cedee Lamb done.
Jerry Jones understands it. For whatever we want to say,
he's on the nineteenth hole or whatever it is, on
the back nine. He wants a championship in the worst way,
and there's no way he's going to let a CD
Lambs it out for any games in the regular season
that might compromise his chance to go to a Super
(20:36):
Bowl again, So cdee lab will get the deal. It's
just the funny thing is both guys want to become
the highest paid player outside of a quarterback and they're
both on the same team. That gets a little tricky
when you're in that situation. But I think Michaeh. Parsons,
might you know, out CD Lamb by just a few dollars?
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Yeah, I think yeah, I think that's a fascinating way.
Can they make it all work with those too, and
then Dak in this upcoming offseason, Yeah, I think you can.
Speaker 8 (21:04):
The trick you're going to have is the Osa digo
zuas for really good players to Tyler Smith who have
great guard they're just going to have to play their
deals out and the Cowboys are just going to cross
their fingers and say, I hope we don't lose them,
but we can only sign so many guys. And when
you have fine that are going to be you know,
Dak is going to be.
Speaker 6 (21:21):
Asking for fifty five to.
Speaker 8 (21:22):
Sixty million a year if everything goes anywhere near remotely well,
and certainly you're going to have two other guys that
are gonna paid in the mid thirties at their salary.
So the fortunate thing is I think it can work
because the salary cap has been growing at such an
exponential growth rate. I also think that's why you're hearing
more and more about eighteen games, because that's going to
help the salar cup go even more. But I think
(21:43):
that's the way Dallas is looking at it. They're looking
at the future saying, we think the CAP's going to
go up another eighty ten percent next year and that
will be the difference to be able to hold on
to these players. So that's why I think Dallas feels
like they can do it, and I think they will.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Steg Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Trader. That's the
voice of Mark Dominic. He joins us here in the
Doug Gotlib Show on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, a couple
interesting teams. I just I want to ask you about.
Let's go to the Jets. You know, they lead the
offseason in Cora. Everybody talks about them, yet at least
when everybody talks about the Cowboys. Cowboys recently have been
(22:17):
really good in the regular season. The Jets bring back
Aaron Rodgers. We know some of the camps that he's skipped,
but he's coming off of achilles tendon and you know,
you know, now you have really talented players sitting out.
But it feels like they fix their offensive line some.
It feels like they cleaned some stuff up some and
if they had any sort of offense, last year could
(22:39):
have been a playoff team. What do you think this
season looks like for them?
Speaker 8 (22:44):
Yeah, I think it is. I think they're right there
battling with Dolphins for the second spot, and I think
they're a ten and seven, eleven and six type of team,
at least with Aaron Rodgers. I think Garrett Wilson's going
to catch one hundred and twenty to one hundred and
forty balls and have fifteen hundred yards that of a
player to produce the way he has with Zach Wilson,
imagine the thought of him producing with Aaron Rodgers and
(23:05):
what you know, Aaron and DeVante Adams are able to
do together. So the running game is good. And I
think you bring up a very important point, and that's
the outfensive line. It was a businal as we all
know last year and their offense was specifically struggling. I
think it's going to be completely different, and I know
that you know every holding their breath on Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
The real truth is he should be healthy. He should
make it through.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
It was an unfortunate injury last year. I think the
Jets are a playoff team. I think it's either the
Dolphins get in or the Jets get in. I think
you've still I think there's still both at least one
win to two wins behind the Buffalo Bills. But I
think they're certainly going to be in the postseason in
my personal opinion, even though it's hard to just pick
seven teams in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Kirk Cousins coming off another Achille coming up an Achilles injury,
just like Aaron Rodgers suffer a little bit later on
in the year, but was on a path to maybe
throw it for six thousand yards with the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
How does he fit with Atlanta?
Speaker 6 (24:01):
I think it'd be a great fit.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
And I think the reason why I say that is
there's so many young players on that Atlanta team, but
every kind of trying to figure out how good are
they that they're going to know how good is Kyle Pitts,
we're going to know. I think it's going to be
really good. How good is Drake Clinton. I'm not sure
that one's one.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
I'm a little bit more interested.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
To see how he does in the red zone and
different things. But you know, Darnell Mooney, Rondelle Moore, I
just and I think their offensive line is underrated. I
think the Falcons have a very strong offensive line.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
So I don't need to.
Speaker 8 (24:28):
See Kirk Cousins play in the preseason. I just will
be ready for him in the regular season, making sure
he's one hundred percent ready to go.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
But I've said.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
At the beginning and I'll say now, I still think
the Falcons win the South because I think that they're
going to be that much better, and I know the
defense is a little ways away, and that may be
the Achilles heel for the Atlanta Falcons can be stopping up,
but I think they'll score on us. And I think
the South is still fairly weak, and so I think
that ten and seven Falcons team is real under Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Are you buyer into Pittsburgh. I know Russell Wilson's mispracticed today,
but are you a buyer into Pittsburgh with their one
or maybe even two new quarterbacks.
Speaker 8 (25:11):
I am, and it sounds like Justin Fields has taken
advantage of these reps that he's getting, which is great
and it's good for Pittsburgh. It's good for Mike Tomlin
to see what you can do with them in different
ways in that offense. And I think it's all in all.
You know, I can't bet against coach Tomlin. I mean
when you go in the National Football League and I
know Ben Roethlisberg is there for a while, but to
you know, never have a losing season. And the drafts.
(25:34):
I think that the Omar kh has put together the
last two years, which I like both drafts, that he's
done very much this year and last year's. I just
think the Pittsburgh Steelers are very dangerous out every week.
I think they're gonna be very hard to beat. And
Nijah Harris is certainly doing everything he can to be
the best year he's ever put together based off of
them taken away the fifty options, so he's a free agent,
(25:54):
so usually you're going to see your best in and
get your best. So I think all those things tied
together to say I'm a.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
Believer of the Steelers.
Speaker 8 (26:03):
I just don't know what's going on with Lamar Jackson.
I don't know if Joe Burrow can stay healthy. You know,
we'll see what Russell Wilson could do. But I just
think the overall team, Pittsburgh's probably from a deepness standpoint,
the best team in that division.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
As good as Baltimore can be.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Okay, they can't all be good, so who in that
division won't be as good as their expectations.
Speaker 8 (26:22):
I really I wonder about the Bengals and if they
can stay healthy in that team. I mean, I think
there's so much it's hard to ever think negative about
the Bengals and what they've done there. I just I
am so concerned about Joe Burrow. He has been as
great as he is and again deserving to be the
highest state player. He's unbelievable, leader, all those things great.
(26:43):
The problem is he's at injury since he was at LSU.
This isn't something new the last couple of years. He
has been happening since he's gotten to college, and so
that's the concern I have. And then I wonder where Deshaun.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
Watson will fall in.
Speaker 8 (26:55):
As much as I was a big fan and saying
he's top five quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (26:59):
He should go get him.
Speaker 8 (27:00):
I don't know what's happened, and I don't know if
it's a love of the game or if it's just
been circumstantial. It's been all the injury stuff. But I
think that Cleveland brown said they will be the team
that takes the biggest step back.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Yeah, the Browns are an interesting one because so talented.
But yeah, that one is just such a difficult one
to figure it really really is, Doug otlib Schell, you're
on Fox Sports Radio. Mark dominic Is is our guest.
Where are you on the It's not a trend. I mean,
it's it's happened with not playing your guys at all
(27:33):
in the preseason.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
If you were back running a team, how would you
handle it?
Speaker 6 (27:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (27:38):
I think the four thing you've Doug, is you have
to have these conversations when you're you know, in July,
before your team shows up. How do we want to
handle it right? And what are we going to do
for each preseason game? And are are we doing any
joint practices? Because you get so much good work there
as well. I'm not a big if I've got a
guy that's got some established, especially at the quarterback spot.
I don't I get worried about playing them in the
(28:00):
first two preseasons or the first person to be for sure,
knowing they only have three total, I don't worry like
Aaron Rodgers is gonna be rustier, Kirk Cousins will be rusty,
or even you know, Russell whoever. You know, they've been
throwing with the offseason and with the guys for months,
and so it's more of like, who am I going against?
Who am I going to have healthy on the offensive line?
(28:21):
As I walk out there of that game, which offensive
lineman do I actually want to put on the field.
And then because all the things you're in your mind
are going is there's only three preseason games. That means,
you know, a lot of the roster is going to play,
and the ninety man guys are going to play the
eighty to ninety five man rosters, and all they're trying
to do is make a play so they can flash
in case they don't make the club they're at, they
can make another one. That can cause guys to kind
(28:42):
of do a little bit more crazy than the normally would,
and that would make me concern to somebody roll into
one of my players roll up the back, doesn't even
wants to finish off a block a little bit too
far away from the ball where it doesn't matter, and
suddenly I've got a guy going down. So you factor
all that stuff into your brain. But I'm I'm I'm
comfortable enough knowing it's kind of who my offensive coordinators are,
my head coach. I don't need to go see Patrick
(29:04):
Mahomes doesn't really. I know Patrick's going to want to
play a series or whatever theoretically, but he doesn't need
to to prove to me that Patrick's going to be
fine over the seventeen weeks. So I'm comfortable with I'm
not playing. It's a business decision, but it's an internal
for the organization ship to Maybe you have to talk
to owners about it too, Dougs, because owners still want
to sell tickets that game, and so they're like, what
(29:24):
do we selling, you know, and so that it becomes
that conversation with the ownerships get involved as well.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
That's the one only Mark Dominic, Man, you're the best dude.
I love having you on. I know this is the
time of year where all of a sudden, the juices
start flowing. I'm sure you miss it. Yeah, we're going
out the Bears, going to check out the package this weekend,
the Bears on Monday.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
I'll be thinking about you. Thanks so much for joining us.
I appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
Thanks arg for having me Ondrey weekend.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
But be sure to catch the live edition of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
The show Fox Sports Radio. So Sammy, can you do them? Hey,
we're gonna talk a little NBA choosing Amazon over TNT upcoming.
(30:18):
In the meantime, let's get to Dan Byer with a game.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Hey there, Dan Byer, what's the game?
Speaker 7 (30:34):
Doug? The game today? Iss? All right, Doug?
Speaker 5 (30:37):
Here are the four categories that uh I'm gonna send
down the line. The final one will be favorite French Food.
Then we will also have our favorite pre or postgame
show of all time. This comes to sports and on
the heels of the TNT News Favorite Olympic Athlete of
all time. But we start, Doug, countries other than the
(30:59):
United States of America that you will cheer for in
these twenty twenty four Paris Olympics. Who do you got
DIBs on? I got dibbs. I got DIBs on Norway
because I'm a quarter Norwegian. Wow, even though I'm more German,
(31:21):
I feel the Germans fare better in these summer games.
So I am going to go with Norway on this one.
So any Norwegian Summer Olympics success I will be excited for.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
I got dibbs on South Sudan and basketball.
Speaker 7 (31:35):
Okay, wait a minute, what's.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Got dibbs on South to Sudan.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
In basketball, they don't have an indoor facility in the
entire country.
Speaker 7 (31:48):
Former Hawkeye on that South Sudan team, Peter.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Plus Royal Ivy's their coach. Ivy I covered he played
at Texas. I think he was a might have been
a freshman my senior year. I'm this player a tremendous coach,
but an NBA assystem for years. But more than anything, like,
I don't know. I think it's an amazing story.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
That's an upset.
Speaker 7 (32:11):
I thought Israel was definitely going to be eros. You
must not like Israel.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
No, no again, don't do that, I said in basketball South Sudan,
I didn't know Dan. That was kind of my question
which I was going to get to, which is does
it have to be one country only or can we
pick different country for different sports.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
Well, I didn't think of the specific nature. I just
think that you always kind of pull for maybe what
your heritage is sure, and that's you know, maybe if
there's a country where there's just athletes yourself Sudan, I'm Norway.
I had no idea what events they are actually competing in, but.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
I got dips. I'm half English, half Scottish, so if
any Welsh win a medal, I don't know about them
Scottish or English.
Speaker 9 (32:57):
Dang, it just screwing around me because I'm the one
who Welsh. So I was gonna pick Wales. You know
that Wales is sending thirty one athletes this year to
the Olympics, which is the most since nineteen oh eight.
Speaker 7 (33:07):
That's always the confusing thing.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
They the UK or Great Britain doesn't doesn't just stand
on its own with all the athletes either.
Speaker 9 (33:14):
Individual country Wales, tiny obscure little country west of England.
Speaker 5 (33:19):
Is that the case? They're not under the Great Britain.
Well we are, they're part of the greater they're a
Great Britain. But they are their own country. They're part
of the United Kingdom. Yeah, I know, but do they
play under the ban or the flag of the United Kingdom.
Speaker 7 (33:33):
Their own Whales.
Speaker 9 (33:34):
Wales has its own flag. Yeah wow, I know, they
have their own flag.
Speaker 7 (33:38):
They are Welsh.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
I know they play in soccer. We saw the United
the United States, Gareth Bale, but in sometimes it's a
little different.
Speaker 7 (33:47):
In terms of the Olympics.
Speaker 9 (33:49):
They are individually sending thirty one athletes to the Olympics,
so most since nineteen oh eight London Games.
Speaker 7 (33:56):
All right, two for them, Good for them Whales.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Obviously, I'm cheerful Israel.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
You know, all of this complete crap, and I mean
it's it's really sad how social media promotes lies about
what's gone on there, what goes on there, whatever, And
when you factor in what happened to the seventy two Olympics,
with some of the threats that are being made today,
if you're if you know, I can't think of anybody
(34:27):
who wouldn't cheer for any American who wouldn't cheer for Israel,
because again, they are our ally the only democracy in
the area in the Middle East, and their survival is
important to our survival so and then of course the
Jewish heritage side, so Israel is an obvious.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
One for me.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
That's all right. And again Sam Wales will play under
Team Great.
Speaker 7 (34:53):
Okay, I'm seeing that teams. Yeah's quite weird.
Speaker 9 (34:56):
So they don't get to send a dividual that big
cluster of so Con countries.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
All right, Well, go Great Britain. I guess favorite Olympic
athlete Summer or Winter of all time.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Favorite Olympic athletes Summer.
Speaker 7 (35:12):
I got DIBs on Dan Gable. We'll go ahead and
pick him, all right. I got another Dan. I got
DIBs on Dan Janssen speed skater dance.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
I got DIBs on the two dance. One of them
didn't make it. One of them didn't make them.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah, okay, Dan, Dave uh douga DIBs don John Smith
one of the many Oaklhoma State wrestlers. Of course, he's
the now retired oklham State wrestling coach, multi time gold
bellists John Smith.
Speaker 5 (35:41):
And because of the controversy involving Wales, we will not
get to the final two topics.
Speaker 7 (35:46):
I got DIBs, gross, and that's game time.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
This is game time on the gott leaf show.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
We all love inside the NBA, but inside the NBA
maybe no more. Did the NBA make the right move
choosing Amazon over TNT. Let's discuss next to The Doug
Gottlieb Show.
