Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Years in
the Bonus with Doug Gottlieb.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
What.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Doug Gottlieb Show and love on a sun Box Sports Radio.
I alright, radio, welcome in. So good. Are you guys
watching any international basketball today? Just see what happened earlier today?
That's right, the French French team beat Canada in basketball.
(00:40):
And we told you before that you look at Canada
and think they're awesome because they have really really good
uh NBA players. But it's not an NBA game. It's
a it's a you know that. One you're playing France
in France, that's always hard. Two, it's just a completely
(01:02):
different style of basketball. Yes, shake Gilders Alexander twenty seven points, okay,
but they were five of twenty one from three as
opposed to France was nine of twenty eight from three,
right and Cordinay Gordonay had four threes and twenty points.
(01:24):
That's the difference. It's it's a very different form of
the exact same sport, very different form. So we make
this assessment of who's going to win based upon what
they are as NBA players, and nothing should tell you
more about how NBA and feebe are not the same
(01:47):
than the fact that Team Canada just lost to France
by by nine points. Now, part of it is France
is playing at home. But that's gonna be an incredible
challenge for the Americans once we get to the gold
medal game. If we get to the gold medal game
beating France in France, that'll be crazy, truly crazy.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Be short to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Let's let's get to what the Fox.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Says and now.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Fu say every day. This time the Doug gotlieve Show
Fox Sports. Ready we play for your previous show on
Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports One. Here's Dan Patrick talking
about Brandon Ayuk in his situation in San fran.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
The framework is in place for Ayuk to be traded.
But if you're Ayuk and you know what San Francisco,
I'm going to look at it this way. The report
came out of the Bay Area, If it came out
of New England or came out of Cleveland, then it's
different from me. This feels like the Niners are passing
on some information to let everybody know you're open for business.
(02:55):
And also, here's your chance last call for Brandon Ayuk
instead of this is coming from the Steelers camp or
the Patriots camp, the Browns camp that somebody there broke this. No,
this is San Francisco saying we're moving on from Brandon
Nayuk because you can't afford him, because you're gonna have
to pray play paid rock perty and you're not going
(03:17):
to be able to do that. But you're paying Bosa Deebo,
Christian McCaffrey, Kittle compensated. Trent Williams still has to be paid.
But you know, this is a situation sort of like
Kansas City Chiefs with Tyreek Kill. At some point you
have to say it does not make financial sense to
(03:37):
keep him.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
I would agree it doesn't, and that's why he's being moved.
You know. It's like everybody has a value. Do we
want you back?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Who wants you back? At the top of the market. Now,
this is Brady Quinn talking about the Chiefs giving Harrison
Butker a big extension.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
You know, we haven't touched on the Harrison Butker topic
of conversation because well LeVar hates kickers. That's probably why
we're not going to highlight even the highest paid kicker.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
I don't hate him, I just don't like him.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
Yeah, well yeah, and it's not just Harris Buoker, it's
every kicker, that's correct. I will say this about the
Chiefs quickly on that topic. Bucker's a hell of a kicker.
He's the highest paid for a reason. He's been clutch.
He's been one of the better kickers. But then Mattareza,
the punter that they have gotten. Obviously, he's gotten passed.
Some of his past accusations it was super talented or
(04:27):
within his career before you know, all of that stuff
came to the forefront. Now the Chiefs have him. I mean,
this is a loaded roster and they're specialists are loaded,
so that three pet that has been elusive to every
other NFL franchise. I just feel like with the additions
of Xavier Worthy, who looks like he's bringing a lot
(04:48):
to the table so far, it I mean it could
be one of those years again. Could we see the
Chiefs just dominate time and Tom Agim.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah, I don't see that them dominating time time again.
By the way, he'savier' worthy. I don't know if you'
get press coverage got thrown into the like in the
next week. He's really thin. Do I think that the
chiefs one despite the fact there was a rather talentless
by comparison wide receiving core. Sure, but you know, Travis
(05:18):
Kelcey isn't getting younger, Chris Jones isn't getting younger, and
it's not like they dust stopped the competition last year.
Do I still think they have my homes He's better
than everybody else?
Speaker 7 (05:27):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Do I think they dominant this year? I do not.
I do not not. Any Way, this is Colin Kwher
talking about the NCAA violations that Michigan is accused of.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
This reads like a Saturday Night Live comedy skit. They're
accused of violations at Michigan. Here's one of them. Cling
Scale is accused of helping a recruit get verified on Instagram.
That same recruit you could pay a million dollars a
year to play out of high school. But this is
one of the big ones that the assistant coach got
(06:02):
one of his players verified on Instagram. I mean, is
this a witch hunt or not? Another one is allegedly
sending text messages to high school sophomores. You mean the
same ones Ohio State or Michigan or Clemson or Georgia
could pay six hundred thousand dollars to legally. I mean,
you gotta be kidding me on this stuff. So you
can pay a high school player half a million dollars cash,
(06:25):
you can wear shirts we pay players Park Lambeau's in
front of the recruiting facility. But you can't verify an
IG account or send a text. This is a witch hunt.
There is nothing in this ruling, nothing that proves Harbaugh
new any of it. He's being punished honestly because he said, no,
you can't have my cell phone. No, it's nonsense. That's
(06:46):
what he's in trouble for.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
And you know his assistant coach, who became the head coach,
did delet fifty two messages right to the guy who
is accused of all this stuff. So let's sound act
like he's super innocent. But yeah, those rules are dumb.
They're dumb. I congratulate Colin. Here's another one. Did you
know it's against San c rules to punish a player
with any sort of physical activity outside of the scope
(07:14):
of practice. So I can't buy NCAA rules. I can't
tell a player you know, he's screwed up in class,
and hey, you gotta come and do you know, crunches
for an hour or you gotta go and run five
miles And it's technically against sand C rules. And I'm
(07:34):
sure there's plenty of good reasons for these rules, but
there's plenty of bad ones too. Plenty of bad ones too.
That's what the Fox said.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Fuck say. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Let's find out who or what is annoying Jason Stewart.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
And now it's your annoying.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Jay Stu.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
What do you got, buddy, I'm annoyed that this story
isn't true. So there's a story that made the rounds
about Kaitlin Clark turning down the View for a million
dollars didn't ring true at all. I don't think the
View pays their guests. If they do, it's not a
million dollars. So it was kind of bullshit from the beginning.
But the problem is is that like one of these
(08:30):
comedy Twitter handles put out the story with a meme
with a quote, have you seen the View? All they
do is yell. I can't figure it out why. I
can't figure out why they're on TV attributed to Kitlin Clark,
and I really wanted it to be true. But I'm
annoyed that it's not true. It's just that like a
semi reputable site picked it up. It's like how things
(08:52):
work in the modern age. A comedy site posted it,
a semi reputable Twitter like re quoted it, and then
it got picked up as maybe true. So that's annoying.
The whole thing's annoying. But the most annoying thing part
about it is that it's not true. I will I
want to remind our listeners though, that if Kaitlyn Clark
(09:12):
did turn down an opportunity on the View, probably has
something to do with their host, Sonny Houston, who is
one of the more far left members of a very
far left panel. Here's Sonny Houston on Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 8 (09:27):
I do think that there is a thing called pretty privilege,
there is a thing called white privilege, there is a
thing called tall privilege, and we have to acknowledge that,
and so the part of it is about race because
if you think about the Britney grinders of the world,
you know, why did she have to go to play,
(09:47):
and that she wouldn't pay because they wouldn't pay. They
wouldn't pay, not because she was black, but because they
didn't believe in the WNB. Answer is part of my points. Yeah,
now you know, Caitlin Clark is bringing this much these
sponsorships we hope into the league and other players will
benefit from it. But I do think that she is
(10:08):
more relatable to more people because she's white, because she's attractive,
and unfortunately there still is that stigma against the LGBTQ
plus community.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
Count how many misinformed things are said there. I love
that sound by it firstus how ignorant it sounds.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
So they're actually there's a ton of ignorant stuff, but
some of it's just like misinformed she had to go
play in Russia, Like, no, you can make a bunch
more money if you play in Russia, and you can
in the WNBA. The WNBA has a legit revenue split.
Speaker 7 (10:45):
No.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah, by the way, they don't do net, they do
gross revenue, because if they did net, then they wouldn't
make any money. Yeah, there's a lot of misinformation. I
just think that that going on the view in addition
to facing off the people who are complete fucking idiots
that don't know anything about basketball or again apparently basic economics,
(11:05):
it's also putting yourself clearly on one side of the aisle.
And I think similarly Kayln Clark won't go on Fox
News by the same thing, Like, what's the point. It's
the old Republicans by sneakers too. In this in this
remarkably divisive time, will have the most divisive presidential race
maybe in history or since the Civil War. And there's
(11:32):
no win there for Kaitlin Clark picking a side. That's
just the reality to it.
Speaker 6 (11:36):
So I've worked in the business a long time and
one of the just just things that happens when you've
worked in the business a long time, you either know
everybody or you know someone who knows people. And I've
never known anybody to not like Trey Wingo. I'm guessing
you have a personal relationship with the guy. Sounds like
he's a good dude, but he really stepped in it yesterday,
(12:00):
so much so that his tweet got picked up by
all the all the I guess you would say, the uh,
the usual suspects on the on the right wing. This
is what Trey Wingo wrote in a tweet. The Harrison
Butker extension, making him the highest paid kicker, underscores the
inherent truth of the NFL, which is this, the better
(12:20):
you are at the job, and the more that a
team is willing to put up with pure and simple
the term, the more the team is willing to put
up with got got a lot of people pissed off,
And I guess the example would be like, what are
they putting up with? Example exactly, Trey a husband who
(12:41):
is married and is a Christian who really cares about
the family, hierarchy, all this stuff. So Trey Wingo, I
think what annoys me about this isn't necessarily like the
stuff that triggered the right It's like not knowing that
if he tweeted this, he was going to get a
very negative reaction. Trey Wingo doesn't spark me as a
(13:04):
guy that is provocative or who wants negative attention.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Doug No, No, I would agree with you. That's not
usually his m o. Look, if you think what he
said wouldn't be offensive to a good portion of the country. Well,
then that one is you're clearly mistaken. I'm saying you, Jason, like,
I think there is a reality to women's groups, and
(13:28):
others have clearly complained about it. So and he is right,
Like he got a contract not because of anything he said,
because he's fucking really good at kicking of football and
if he was just a marginal kicker, it would have
been easy to kind of pull the plug just to
keep people happy. So I do think he's right. But yes,
showing us your average stance, especially when that's not really
(13:49):
putting up with much, is sort of laughable.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
What else?
Speaker 6 (13:53):
And then you have Charles Barkley. He went on a
podcast I think it was Paul George's podcast, and he
made news. The news he made was that he's staying
with T and T Sports after next season. I have
no idea what that means, what he's gonna do or whatever.
But he did say this within that podcast about ESPN's
NBA like studio shows.
Speaker 9 (14:15):
I don't know if anybody gives ever give it a
chance to be honest with you. You know, ESPN, which I love,
They never give anybody a chance to like get any
chemistry they're all just kind of throwing stuff at the wall,
like let's put this group together, and they'll do that
for like six months to a year and then they're like,
(14:37):
it didn't work.
Speaker 10 (14:38):
Well, you didn't give it a chance to work.
Speaker 6 (14:41):
And I completely agree. And I'll also say this, you
even talk about ESPN Radio, which I know they've kind
of waved the white flag with the audio part, but
they've always been this way, and in the thought process
is that it's it's always been about ESPN and not
about the talent. Now. I think Steven A. Smith is
is is the one like outlier in this, but that's
(15:05):
typically the way they do things. They program stuff like
these NBA shows and they'll switch out talent year by year.
And I think the thought is that people are going
to tune in regardless of who's on these studio shows.
And I think so. I think Barkley's got a point,
and I think it's been that case for a long time.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
I'm going to disagree. I'm gonna disagree. I do think
ESPN has has made a lot of changes over time,
but I think it's because they're trying to find their
own Barkley and they gave Jalen Rose like a decade
of opportunities with newcasts and it could you know, he
(15:50):
had plenty of opportunities plenty, and Jalen is just he's
just not Barkley. He's he's liked and he's respected, but
he just doesn't the viewer didn't love him. They didn't.
So I you know if after does does it take
like two years? Yeah, it takes like the second year
you start to be able to answer you but you'd
(16:12):
also know if you have something. The other part too,
it is some of their changes of me because they
hire guys like you know, like Doc Rivers that go
back into coaching, and that that changed the stuff. The
only real dynamic of the of the TNT show is
Barkley and to a lesser extent, Ernie you know that's
(16:33):
you know that could that might seem as disrespectful to
Kenny and Shack. The reality is they have a show on.
When Barkley's not on, it's just not any good. It's
not any good anymore.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
No, So I got the Kaitlin Clark fakes story not
being true is annoying. Trey Wingo uh right, in a
tweet that was going to get negative attention and ESPN
for switching out their people.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
I'm gonna go with Kaitlyn Clark, that story not being true.
That is anoy.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Why are we doing this?
Speaker 2 (17:12):
I do.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Because we can.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
What you got.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
So every day I try to I try to find
something from someone in sports that uses blue language for
this segment. Oftentimes I find it, but today I did not.
But I found a comedian and his gaggle of friends
talking ignorantly about Aaron Judge. This as Shane Gillis and
(17:40):
a bunch of dudes on a podcast.
Speaker 7 (17:44):
Yeah, I saw Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
You might do That picture is insant. That guys, who
is that guy?
Speaker 7 (17:51):
He's the best, He's probably the best player.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
I had a feeling. I had a feeling.
Speaker 7 (17:56):
He was like six seven.
Speaker 10 (17:57):
It's like he had a super Mario fucking mushroom. He's like,
not like weird big looking. He is a normal looking
dude that's just way bigger than you. This is fake, dude,
someone edited this.
Speaker 7 (18:09):
Yeah it was. That was the most nervous I've been meeting.
I couldn't believe I'll start your holy shit, that's he
saw me during bating practice. Was like, so I'm coming
over there and I was like, fuck, he's gonna come
over here, I said, joked, and then he came over
and I was like, how.
Speaker 9 (18:25):
Are you.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Kind of weird that they didn't know who Aaron Judge was?
That's right, he is weird all j STU. I just
think that you don't know who you don't know who
Aaron Judges, Like, I understand if you don't know who
plays second base for the Twins, but you don't know
Aaron Judges.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
I think we lose sight, especially people and entertainment that
are completely supremely focused on one thing, and a lot
of pop culture stuff goes by the wayside.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
I don't know, like I know baseball has fallen, but
he holds basically the home run record and he plays
the New York Yankees. I don't know anyway, Michael played
for you because we can. That's it, friend. The bonus,
check out the radio show every day. It's on at
three to five Eastern Doug Gatlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio,
