R A very very special day today here on Fox
Sports Radio, not only because the Olympics are winding down, Manzi,
it is a historic day in the history of sports,
one that I know is near and dear to Isaac
Lohenkron's heart. There are others here that may not remember
(00:40):
the actual moment, but in the theme of the Olympics,
we will decipher whether this moment in sports transactional history
is the actual gold metal moment of all sports when
it comes to transactions.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
It is quite incredible this transaction because even if you
weren't around for the name holds so much weight, and
we are broadcasting live from the Tyrek dot Com studios
Tyrek dot com. We'll help you get there and unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended
installers Tyrek dot Com. The way tire mine should be Okay,
I could have done it.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
You don't remember done it. Monsey got the copy right
and write in a split second time.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I know it.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I know he knows it by heart. I do not.
I do not. After after I still it is one
of my flaws. Can't do it.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
No, I've been I think I've said it just baby, Between.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
You and I, I always say it. So you know, maybe that's.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Why do you do you even remember this move? I
think you were maybe too young. Absolutely, yes, I don't
want to age. I don't want to age anyone. Yeah,
I know, Actually this move happened before you were born.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Oh great, there we go.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I know what happened before Ryan Bersinger was born and
Iowa Sam. I'm not sure exactly how old Iowa Sam is,
so I'm gonna just say somewhere in the neighborhood. But
he would not be old enough to remember when this happened.
I remember when it happened, and I'm pretty sure Isaac
Lohenkron remembers when it happened. So I want to at
(02:11):
least give the floor to him, because I feel like
he's the most invested to start this topic. What is
today the thirty sixth anniversary of Isaac lohincron.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
The biggest trade in sports history, literally the greatest trade
in sports history, when Wayne Gretzky, the most dominant team
sport athlete of all time, was traded in the prime
of his career from the Edmonton Oilers, who had won
four out of the last five Stanley Cups, two Hollywood,
(02:43):
Tinseltown and the Los Angeles Kings.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
So I just question here, was this done because of Hollywood?
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Was this done to send him to LA?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
The Oilers needed money right now.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
The owner of the Edmonton Oilers, Peter Pocklington, desperately needed money.
They were the dynasty in the NHL, but that did
not translate to his pocketbook because of their market size.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
So you trade Wayne GRETZKYU, you're gonna have to pay
at some point, right as well? And he goes to
LA And really, and I need Isaac herety because I'm
not a native Californian or from southern California. But this
changed everything in southern California with hockey, right this.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
It changed everything in southern California. It changed everything in
the Sun Belt. Barry Melrose, who a couple of years
later would coach Gretzky, and the Kings to the Stanley
Cup Finals. Said that the Wayne Gretzky trade didn't just
save hockey in Los Angeles. He said it saved the
National Hockey League. There you go back then only twenty
(03:47):
one teams. If that Gretzky trade does not happen, there
would be no San Jose Sharks, there would be no
Anaheim Ducks, there would be no Vegas Golden Knights, there
would be no Dallas Stars. It had that big of
an impact.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Enormous on the metal stand. Isaac says it wins gold,
But I'm just not sure if it does win gold.
And that's what I want to figure out today, is
on this thirty six anniversary, maybe we are prisoners of
the moment, Maybe we are prisoners of the anniversary. But
it brings to mind what are the actual biggest moves.
(04:27):
And when we're talking about this, and we're talking about
this anniversary. I believe you were the first one to
say it. What first popped into your mind? This isn't trades,
this is transaction. So this can be trades, this can
be you know, player movement, free agency.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
I instantly thought of Messi joining Inner Miami. I know
that's super recent but it was so big for MLS
and for soccer in the US. And then Ryan Bershinger,
our producer, brought up David Beckham and I was like, yeah,
he maybe started this.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
But the that is not the same.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
I don't want to say like like Beckham walked so
Messi could run, but sort of yes, yeah, that's that's
like the feeling that I got for I went to
an LA Galaxy game. Yeah, so like that's enough, Like
just Beckham was playing, so I ended up. It made
reason for me to go. Now, the thought process of
(05:26):
bringing old European stars over to a new league in
the United States, the actual growth of the sport has
its huge dynamics. The Galaxy were good. They were I mean,
and Beckham was even in his later years, is probably
better than most, maybe if not all, of the players
in the MLS at the time. But in terms of
(05:47):
like where the league has gone, like even Messi comes
over here in the waning years of his career and
then as immediately the best player, and the past year
whatever it's been, has been a bit of history. I
do think that your point is well taken, that it's
under consideration the biggest move that I looked at and
(06:08):
I believe that others would probably feel this when Lebron
left Cleveland for Miami. Yeah, like that I just for
and it's not the return trip to Cleveland. Even though
he won a title, it was everything that came with it.
It really did feel like it changed the game. We
(06:29):
blamed Lebron for the Big three, and even though I
don't think big threes really work and there were only
two titles, there were four straight trips to the NBA
Finals for Lebron there, and it also brought in a
true villain team in the NBA. The ramifications of how
other teams responded. It was just the TV aspect of it,
(06:51):
of ripping the hearts out of Cleveland. Like, I think
that is a top three. So if we've got Lebron
leaving Cleveland and the Gretzky and you're trying to make
it in this Olympic theme that we're tying it in
on this metal stand, if you will, there's got to
be one more. So we've got the biggest deal in hockey.
(07:11):
I think it's the biggest deal in basketball. So then
that leaves baseball and football.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
It is the biggest deal in basketball.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
But because it's Lebron James, right, because there's been so
many others in basketball. I mean, we could talk Shack
whether you want to say Shack from the Magic to
the Lakers or from the Lakers to the Heat. I
feel like that's also a really big one. But it's
like Lebron's name the decision. Absolutely, But I will say
that him going to the Lakers I feel like in
(07:39):
a way even diminishes.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
What he did going to Miami.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Like if he would have stayed there and then gone
back to Cleveland and just stayed on the East, I
feel like it had so much weight Now that he's
gone to Lakers. I'm like, well, I mean, in hindsight,
I don't know if this was that big of a deal.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I think people forget the Lakers championship at times when
you're talking about Lebron and his titles. You forget that
he has four NBA titles. I think that sometimes we
even just pass over because we remember Cleveland being the third.
I would also put the Durant to Golden State. Mmm,
like if there was a runner up, that would be
it for what it changed. But it doesn't rise to
(08:15):
the level of Lebron going on national TV taking these
meetings leading up to what he was going to decide
in free agency. The heat contingent are there, there's the
Knick's contingent, the Calves were able to speak with him.
There were all those things that were like leading up
to the actual decision, which then allowed the decision to
(08:38):
be such a big deal. Right.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
It was all, like you just said, everything leading the
drama kept surrounding that moment because.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
We weren't sure what was he gonna do? What is
he going to do?
Speaker 3 (08:46):
I feel like a little different than the Wayne Gretzky
situation like this one.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Just he you know, it's Lebron.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
He loves the attention, so he, you know, stretched it
out as long as he could.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
We'd love to hear what you think are the biggest
moves that we've seen in sports on this anniversary of
Gretzky's trade to the LA Kings. Hit Mancy up at
Monzi Blanos. He can find me at Dan Byer on Fox.
Would love your input. Here's the deal with football, Because
you talk about recency bias. I think if you would
argue there could be a point where if we were brainstorming,
(09:18):
if we were just trying to come up with a
bunch of different NFL deals. Tom Brady leaving the Patriots
for the Buccaneers is a big deal, but I think
there's recency bias, and honestly, while he got another championship,
I don't know if it really had the lasting effect
as a couple of other deals have in football. I
think that there are two deals, and again, sorry kind
(09:39):
of predates your guys time. One was in free agency,
and it was Reggie White leaving the Philadelphia Eagles for
the Green Bay Packers. Reggie White was the defender for Philadelphia,
Minister of defense, leader of that defense. But also now
you have free agency in the NIAFL, teams being or
(10:02):
players being able to sign with the teams that they want,
change the NFL, and then he goes to Green Bay
and really revitalizes the entire Green Bay Packers organization. It
was a huge, huge deal. So gi just of it
being free agency comes to the NFL and Reggie White
leaves the Eagles to the Packers is a big enough deal.
But honestly, I think the biggest deal in all is
(10:24):
the Herschel Walker trade, and it is still talked about
today because it set up the Dallas Cowboys for their
great championships, and herschel Walker was such a name in
the nineteen eighties, whether it be at Georgia winning the
Heisman Trophy and then him in the USFL and then
coming to the National Football League and being the piece
that he was for the Cowboys and having the Cowboys involved.
(10:44):
I would actually put the herschel Walker trade above Reggie
White signing with the Green Bay Packers because it is
still when we have a lop side of trade in
Major League Baseball at Stay you know, herschel Walker trade.
This is the herschel Walker sort of deal. What kind
of pack It's all you need, a herschel Walker's sort
of package. But it completely reshaped the Cowboys franchise and
(11:05):
herschel Walker was a big name at that time. And
so I think the hershe old Walker trade probably the
biggest move that we've had in the National Football League.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Well, again, we weren't around for that. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
I was thinking Randy Moss Minnesota Vikings, Surekland.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Raiders, Yes, when he went to the Patriots. But the
thing when we went to the Patriots, there was a
little he was soured on. Yeah, and Brady and the
Patriots revitalized his career because he went to Oakland and
there was Yeah, it was. He turned his career around
and obviously had the record sending year with the New
England Patriots.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
It was.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
It was a huge, huge deal baseball wise.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
There's a couple I think in baseball.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Ryan Burschinger is our executive producer. I thought a Rod
signing with the Rangers. I'm bringing bursch in on this. Yeah,
for some reason, that was just huge for the for
the amount of money that he got for the young
star that he was at the time. I don't think
it would top Gretzky or herschel, Walker or Lebron by
any means. But when I think of like enormous baseball deals,
(12:07):
a Rod is one of those. That's just him leaving Seattle.
And it wasn't even for the Yankees. No, it wasn't
Ken Rosenthal, you know, breaking any news or this and
that during the World Series. It was, you know, A
Rod leaves for the Texas Rangers, and that was a huge,
huge deal back in the day. No, I agree.
Speaker 6 (12:24):
I What we don't realize is A Rod was twenty
five his first season with the Rangers. That's that's amazing
for somebody to hit free agency at that age with
the amount of talent. I mean, Juan Soto's gonna basically
do that next.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
But yeah, it was.
Speaker 6 (12:40):
It was a gigantic shift in terms of what it
meant for the league because of just how much money
he got out of that deal. It was incredible when
I think of baseball transactions, and I understand that none
of us were alive at this time, but and it's
different because he wasn't who he was yet. But you
can't tell the story of baseball, the history of baseball
(13:04):
without Babe Ruth going from the Red Sox to the
Yankees and just what that meant for both of those
franchises for a century. It's the fact that we all
know about it now. Again, Babe Ruth was a very
good player when he was with the Red Sox. He
was a two way player, but he didn't become Babe
Ruth the legend until he was a Yankee. Sure, and
it completely, of course set forth the two franchises in
(13:29):
completely different directions for the next century.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Really, when that trade went down, it actually I read
about this. It actually broke Twitter. It did. It was crazy.
It wasn't around it's.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Just carrier pigeons. That's where they got the logo.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
I you know, that's a very fair point. That would
trump and that would and I'll tell you what, if
we're talking about it, what one hundred years, you know
later that it's it does carry the weight. So here
you go. So you got so, you got Gretzky, herschel Walker,
you got Lebron, and you got Babe Ruth, Like there
(14:05):
are other baseball deals.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
What guys, I mean, yeah, but Otani, I think we're
maybe we're having a different conversation about it in a
couple of years, seeing what he does with the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
I was thinking of David Ortiz, big Poppy going to
the Red Sox.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
But again at the time, he wasn't David Ortiz.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
He wasn't. But that's right, and that's what i'thing about.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
Like with Otani, maybe we're having a different conversation in
a couple of years, but right now we don't know
exactly what's happening with the doctor.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
There's if if I think you're gonna be the voice
of reason, and well I know that you put Gretzky
on top, but who's the odd one out of the
herschel Walker, Babe Ruth Lebron, and the Gretzky deals.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
Who doesn't meddle in this, I would say herschel Walker
because of the drama and the spectacle around it. From
a football standpoint, it was one of the most consequential
trades in sports history. I mean, it directly led to
the Cowboys winning three Super Bowls in a four year span.
(15:12):
But it didn't have the cultural or media drama as
the other ones. I mean, you know, the teletype machines
and the carrier pigeons back in the Roaring twenties, I
mean the newsboys on the corner extra extra read all
about it. That was a big deal, and it would
(15:34):
have been a huge deal if there was sports talk
radio back then.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
It was gosh. I just have a tough time taking
it off of the list. But to the point that
said Gretzky saved the league, I think Lebron I actually
feel that the free agency now should be a week
long of TV shows, just like Paul George should have
had a decision where he announced it. I'm sorry, it's
just sports, you know, like if you want to burn
(16:00):
jerseys or whatever, I think it's a much better option
but I would I would put Babe Ruth Gold, I
would put Gretzky silver, Lebron Bron Okay, that's that's what
I would do. Yeah, Lebron Ron. Ryan Berschinger's here, so
is Isaac low On Crowney.
Speaker 7 (16:19):

Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. A Happy Friday
to you. She's sponsor Belanjos. I'm dan By. Her kids
went to school in some places this week. Who they are?
Some friends in Nashville. Their kids started school this week.
LA starts next week.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Summer's over. Yeah, this summer is over. I didn't realize that.
Thank you for bringing that into your life.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
I it a summer is over. Think that. Think about
it as fall is almost here. So football is almost Yes,
that's a perfect transition. As Mark Dominic is here, former
GM in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, friend of the program,
here to talk all things National Football League. I guess now, Mark,
since we have preseason games, your summer is now over
and it is time to focus on football. How are
(18:54):
you doing on this Friday?
Speaker 9 (18:56):
I am feeling everything you guys just talked about because
I live in Nashville, so my kids in school, watched
preseason football last night and have preseason football. So it's
all of that combined. So yeah, summer is over, but
football is here.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
It absolutely. We had two games last night. I'm going
to start in a weird place, but I want to
know because of news that happened that we found out
this morning. The Carolina Panthers had a scary situation with
their playing going off the runway in coming back from
their game against the New England Patriots. I know it's
(19:30):
a really weird place to start, Mark, but I feel
you're a front office guy, like, is there's something like this,
Like are there contingency plans? I would assume that there
are in the NFL? But if something really drastic happened,
how does the NFL go about a situation like this?
You know where Carolina Panthers team playing was in a
(19:51):
scary situation last night. How does the league? How is
the league set up for something like this?
Speaker 9 (19:56):
Yeah, the league internally has a lot of things to
set a place in case the disaster struck and you know,
you realize that that could happen. It sounds like sadly
something's happened in Brazil today. So that being said that,
you know, you think about obviously there would be a
lull to the season and then there would be a
supplemental draft and you would have to rebuild a team,
(20:17):
and that's a really sad thought. But that's because there's
some of the things that that could happen or could
could go down that road. Thankfully, as we all know,
air traffic uh light problems aren't very often there are
between and you're hoping you've got the right staff on
the board, and you just you realize that. Yeah, but
(20:38):
it's it's a sad thought, but yeah, there's a there's
a there's a placement in place.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
I I just and I know I started the interview
in a weird spot, but I had no I had
no place to ask it. I couldn't do it in
the middle of the CD LAMB. And if the Patriots
do have a quarterback controversy, so I figured I would
just start with it and we'd get it out of
the way. But it was news today that the Panthers
plane and up going off the runway, and it was
could have been a much worse situation in Charlotte. So there,
(21:04):
that's off to the side. Now we are going to
talk football.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
Yeah, now let's talk about the Cowboys a disaster with
contract CD LAMB, Dak Prescott. Is Jerry Jones ego going
to get in the way of getting these deals done?
Speaker 6 (21:21):
See?
Speaker 9 (21:21):
I don't think so. I think that Jerry Jones desperately
needs to get these deals done, and he knows it
because he understands that, you know, how badly he wants
to be back on that podium and hold the Lombardi
Trophy before his career is all set and done. And
I know that he knows that that's the only way
to really get there is to get Cedee Lamb on
their contract, and so he's negotiating from a really bad
(21:43):
position of any type of strength because of how important
this is for obviously for Ceedee Lamb to try to
get this contract taken care of. And so I think
that I think both deals get done. I think the
only thing that Jerry's frustrated with is that Ceedee Lamb
didn't show up. The Cowboys camp is kind of doing
the way that they don't love it as much, and
that's you know, I'm not going to show up until
(22:03):
I get my deal with the Cowboys. Love it. If
you would show up first and then try to get
the deal done.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Answer this for me, Markus. You actually said this to
Doug last week that you feel that Dak will be
a Cowboy after the season and get a new deal.
Why does does Jerry Jones think he's going to get
some sort of discount in waiting until next year or
why why would Dallas just not want to wrap this
up and figure out a way, Because the last time
(22:28):
Dallas is in the situation, Dak broke his leg and
still got a deal. Why is Jerry Jones waiting on
Dak at this point when it seemingly feels like he's
going to be costing more a year from now.
Speaker 9 (22:41):
Yeah, he's pretty expensive now. I think it's all part
of a master plan. Like I say, like I said,
like you talked about with Doug last week, I really
feel like, you know, Dak's going to be a cowboy again.
I'm a bit I'm a Dak fan, and I think
what they're trying to do is figure this all out
at the same time, you know, and have one big,
wonderful Kumbaya Prescot reforts where you know, we got Dak done,
(23:04):
we got Micah done, we got CD done. But they're
going to almost have to use each other just to
get these deals all in play. So I think they
all work along with inside each other. But I think
in order, I think they would like to do Micah
and then they would do CD and try to hold
that a little bit of leverage over Dak, But I
don't think it's a big piece of leverages that got
on Dack.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
So this satur Day, the Chicago Bears is going to
play against the Buffalo Bills. Everybody's waiting to see Caleb Williams.
We didn't see him in the Hall of Fame game.
How much do you think we're going to see of
him in this Week one preseason?
Speaker 9 (23:35):
Yeah, you know what, I think it's going to be
at least two series, to say the least. I think
maybe maybe the entire first quarter. You could. We certainly
didn't see much of Drake May last night, so it's
hard to know exactly what it'd be. But I think
because he didn't play Week ones, but I think because
they want him to be on going forward and get
more experienced, certainly before the Week ones is the regular season,
(23:55):
I think you'll see him at least two series. I
don't know if he'll play the whole first quarter. I
think next week is the big show. The following week
Week two, but I think i'd be surprised if he
is not out on the field for at least ten
to fifteen snaps. At the minimum.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Hu Mark Dominic joining us here on Fox Sports Radio.
She's Monte Bolano. So I'm Dan Byer, sitting in for
Doug on the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Saw
the Bears Hard Knocks. I fell in love with the
Giants off season Hard Knocks. How comfortable would you have
been in that off season scenario that Joe Shannon and
the Giants were in?
Speaker 9 (24:27):
Yeah, you know, not that was really it was. You know,
it's funny. It's just it's such a unique spot. Like
as a GM you you know, you have lots of
conversations of different with different people trying to come up
with different answers to the solution. There's part of me
that says, it's nice that, you know, every season, Joe
Shane's a human being. He's trying to, you know, get
the pulse of the Giants organization in terms of making decisions.
(24:48):
Parts of me is like, you know, I don't know
if you want to know how they cooked the bacon
or maybe it could be embarrassing a little bit. I
think they got through fairly unscathed, but there were certainly
the sake one Barkley stuff I thought was you know,
stuff that the Giants decided to put out there. But
I don't know if I would have and I've criticized
some moves that they should have never let take one
off the door in the first place. But I think
that that was kind of an awkward look. But you know,
(25:11):
it's I think after watching it, I am not surprised
that the merrit family all said we have big expectations
this year. But I think that they're they do have
high expectations for this team. But last night, you know,
in terms of depth of quarterback, you know, now if
Drew Lock being down for a while, that's that's a
concern that they have.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Out of all of the second year quarterbacks that we're
going to see this upcoming season, who do you think
is going to have the biggest jump?
Speaker 2 (25:36):
C J.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis, Who do you think is
going to have the biggest jump?
Speaker 9 (25:41):
Yeah? I think I love that question because it is
such an important thing to watch these guys when they
had get to spin an entire offseason not worry about
vertical jumps or forty times or anything like that. You know,
it feels like it's supposed to be Ryce Young. I mean,
mine is supposed to be rich, young, but just because
of what you expect for him, there's two guys that
I would sit there and say that aren't the normal
Anthony Richardson answer. I think Will Levice has the potential
(26:04):
to have a huge jump. I mean, he's got beautiful
talent from the neck down. It's just how does he
do from the neck up? Curious to see what that
looks like. But I think he has a chance to
really have a big jump in terms of, you know,
solidifying the tight and starting quarterback job, because of his
physical attributes. They are they're that good. The other one
that's kind of down the line, and I know he
(26:24):
hasn't even won the starting job yet, but Aban O'Connell
could have a big jump because he is very strong
in football and tangibles, very smart, very methodical, very you
know going through the progressions. Knows what to do. The
problem is he's just your classic pocket quarterback. Will he
show enough at the Raiders even, you know, for the
games this weekend against Minnesota, will he show enough pocket
(26:46):
presence that he did a little bit last year where
he knows where to step and where to slide over
to right when people are coming, so he can buy
that extra half a second to a second to be
able to deliver the ball. But I know he knows
where to go with the football, and so it's going
to be interesting to see how he develops. But I
think it could be pretty good or it could be
really bad. But I think will Levis probably has the
biggest potential to really jump this year. But I think
(27:08):
they all, all of them except for CJ. Stroud could
fall down the ladder two Monty. I think that's a
possibility as well.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
She's Monte Bilano. So I'm Dan Byer talking with Mark Dominic,
former gyam of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, friend of the
Doug Gottlieb Show, joins us every Friday. As it is
now football season. We do have a game, a couple
of games. As you mentioned, the Giants played the lines
last night. We mentioned Patriots and Panthers Patriots quarterback situation.
There's already there's already been Joe Milton rumblings in New
England and Drake May and then last night Milton as
(27:39):
a nice second half of New England. Is there anything there?
Is there anything that we should keep an eye on
or is this just normal preseason stuff or what do
you see in New England with other quarterbacks outside of
Jacoby Brissett.
Speaker 9 (27:51):
Yeah, well, I think Drake May is going to see
a lot more in the next game. I mean, he
didn't do anything that was like what was wrong? When
he didn't do anything, it was like, wow, look at that.
When Milton got in, he did two things. He made
that spectacular run which was frightening the entire time until
he broke free, and then he made a really good
decision on the double move and to a laser down
the middle or down the sideline and it got the touchdown.
(28:12):
But so they both were I think, you know, Milton
probably shine. He was five the shiniest thing that was
on the game last night of anybody, quite frankly. But
the Patriots are interesting to me because they're a team
now with Bailey's appy that might be approached by teams
that might need a number two or number three quarterback
because they're not going to carry four. And so I
think they put bailey z appy on display last night.
(28:34):
I think that's why he played more more than I
thought he was going to, because I think they're trying
to say, hey, look, we're not going to keep him,
So let's see what he can do it. If you
can have a nice preseason, we can get a draft
pick for him. So I think that's kind of an
interesting situation where you're going to watch how they used Bailey,
but I think going forward you're going to see a
lot more Drake May and a lot less of Bailey.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Z Appie.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
What about Brandon Iyuke and the forty nine Ers? Is
he going to be a Steeler? Is he going to
be anything else but a four?
Speaker 10 (29:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (29:02):
You know, talk to Steelers reporter today and you know,
they said that the Steelers aren't given up a first
round pick for him, They are not going to give
up any players for him, but they are, you know,
in the midst of saying they will pay him and
you give up a draft selection. I feel like this
has been very interesting for a player that's, you know,
wanting to have his cake and eat it too, you know,
(29:23):
either you know, you had the money, it sounded like
everything was kind of ready to go for the Patriots
and then you just I don't want to play there.
And it's amazing how far the Patriots have fallen, right
the team that you know, everybody wanted to be a
part of because they win to Super Bowl. Now people
are like treating them like it's the old Detroit or something.
So you know, this is a spot where I think
I U in one more week is moved. But you know,
(29:45):
he has certainly made it difficult for the forty nine
ers when you start to change your mind or don't
want to go somewhere while you're trying to work with
the with the player trying to fulfill what he wants,
which is a you know, a contract, and the pickets
club is.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
It already a problem? Can they? Can they let this continue.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
To go.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
On any further?
Speaker 6 (30:06):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (30:06):
I like the question, and the way I look at
this is if I'm John Lynch, and I bet you
John has done this. Hey, Brandon, I'm going to do
everything I can to trade you. I'm going to give
you every opportunity to to get what you want because
I want you to get what you want. If we
can't get this figured out by the start of the
regular season, let's just play this thing out because I'm
going to give you the free too. I'll give you
the right to go anywhere, talk to anybody, do anything.
(30:27):
You just decide where you want to go and and
so therefore John's got the I think, the ability to
sit there and say, hey, Brandon, you know you didn't
want to go to New England, couldn't get anything worked
out with Pittsburgh or Cleveland or you know, Washington or whoever.
You know, now you're going to play on your one
year deal and you'll be an understricted free agent and
it's good to go, and you know we won't tag
you or whatever it's going to be. That's that's how
(30:48):
this could end up where you know, the forty nine
ers still end up with Brandon Ayuk. But you know
it's a it's a big jump to say I don't
want thirty something million dollars a year from the Patriots
and I'll go play back fift your option for the
forty nine ers. But you know, Super Bowl rings are
hard to get too.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
It's weird to watch the Patriots without There's weird enough
without Brady. This is really weird without Belichick. Mark, we
appreciate the time and enjoy week one of the preseason.
We'll talk to you next week. Thanks so much.
Speaker 9 (31:11):
Sounds great. Thanks having enjoy the weekend.
Speaker 2 (31:13):

Speaker 2 (31:35):
I do want to was my first question?
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Weird, No, But you're right you couldn't ask it in
the middle.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
At the end, I didn't want to end on a
down note.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Sure, sure, no, I agree.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
I'm gonna ask the voice of reason here right now.
Iowa Sam, Iowa Sam? Was my question to Mark Dominic
about the Carolina Panthers in their playing situation. Is that
a weird question to ask?
Speaker 6 (32:02):
No?
Speaker 7 (32:03):
No, I think it was okay. It was something that happened,
it's in the news.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
I felt Mark was a little uncomfortable with the question.
Speaker 7 (32:09):
It's not like a football it's about a football team.
It's not like a football specific question.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Sure you know, I can't ask the quarterback of the
Panthers on what the plan is you.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
Would expect someone like Mark Dominic to have information or
have an opinion on it, and I did so. Yeah,
I think it was fine.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
I thought you gave him plenty of runway with the question.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Oh, I just and I just didn't want to make
it awkward and end on a down note before we
let you go correct that sort of thing.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
I agree how you set it up.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
And at his point there was there was unfortunate a
crash in Brazil today which I didn't know about until
Mark mentioned it as well. But I mean, this is
this has happened before. I mean, you know, Doug Doug's
program Oklahoma State has had you know, situations where they've
lost family members, team members in aviation Rex Marshall, you know,
(33:05):
the the movie We Are Marshall was made like so,
for as uncomfortable as it may have been, it is
a real scenario and you just wonder on what is
the the protocol?
Speaker 7 (33:17):
Yeah, so and Dan, when we're thinking the teams like
in the Big Ten are going to be traveling coast
to coast now, so this is something air travel is
something that we're gonna have to probably keep our eye
on a little more now that these teams are traveling
across the country, you know, playing games.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
But it's not like they were busting the pullman anyway,
like like it's they still you.
Speaker 7 (33:34):
Know, oh, I know, but there's there's more air travel
now in college sports than there's ever been.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
So all right, totally properly good good because I felt
that I was maybe just you know, maybe he wanted
to talk about Brandon. I you can see the Lamb
more than that situation.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
I mean, yeah, we love Mark. Yeah, you had to ask.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
She's WATSI blaio. So I'm Dan by her in for

this summer. I am basically zero for three. I haven't
done any of them and summer's almost over. One of
them was to go to an Oakland Ace game. Monzi
just told me that her and Brie are planning to
fly up to an E game and.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
Come back the same day.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
And you never like, you wouldn't like I gave you

What this might be an awkward time to ask this manci,
but what time does our flight leave on Southwest?
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (36:15):
Exactly exactly nine am? Games at noon?
Speaker 5 (36:18):
Okay, yeah, because Monty told me that when she called
up the A's and she said, what time's the game?
And the ACE told her what time?
Speaker 10 (36:25):
Can you make it?
Speaker 2 (36:27):
All right?
Speaker 10 (36:29):
Onto our game today? I got dips all right.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
So it's just a free for all. But then again
it usually is around here. I'm gonna throw out a
topic and then the gang here, Dan, Moncey, Iowa, Sam
and Bush you get to tell me who you got
DIBs on. So we're gonna start real basic with the
regular season now just about a month away. NFL teams
(36:58):
in the twenty twenty four season. We'll start real basic.
Which NFL team do you have DIBs on for twenty
twenty four?
Speaker 7 (37:05):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (37:06):
I got dims on the Seahawks. I mean there my
favorite team, So there's no doubt I'm going to take
the Seahawks as my favorite team.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Obviously, I'm taking DIBs on the Chargers because I'm excited
as to what's gonna happen this season.
Speaker 5 (37:17):
Well, adding to the tension between the two of you,
they actually played the more on a preseason.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Tims on the Packers to be burst. Although all those
dims on the package, I thought you were trending towards
being a forty nine Ers fan, weren't you? I do well,
you know, I can't really It's hard to read team
in the NFC. It would be like you offering up
a suggestion to go to a sporting event and then
Iowa Sam taking somebody else to that sporting event instead
(37:45):
of you.
Speaker 11 (37:45):
That was real mad the same thing. I guess I'll
take the Kansas City Chiefs. Jeez, I've thought about this
the other day. If I wasn't a Seahawks fan, like,
who would I be.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
A fan of? The Saints interest. Wow, I don't like
someone with the gold and the black.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
Yeah, they do have nice uniforms.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (38:08):
Great logo the Florida ly Yeah. All right, we're gonna
jump ahead here to a much more important subject. We're
also approaching college football season. Who do you have DIBs on? Actually,
where do you have DIBs on? I'm asking best college
football stadiums to tailgate outside of who do you got
(38:32):
DIBs on?
Speaker 2 (38:32):
There?
Speaker 4 (38:33):
DIBs on the Colorado Buffaloes?
Speaker 10 (38:36):
Really?
Speaker 4 (38:37):
Oh yeah, I would like, well, you know, I'll go
there first.
Speaker 5 (38:43):
Okay, I didn't expect that one.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Honestly, I would go back to a game at Clemson
any day, any day of the week. I yeah, I
got to go about fifteen years ago. It was awesome
Death Valley. They're great, the whole deal.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
So this is both atmosphere and food. So the Colorado
tailgating as far as a food standpoint, that didn't really
jump out of me.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
I'm just saying, well, I've never tailgated a college football game,
so yeah, I've never done.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
I mean, I'm from LA. We want to tailgate a
USC game?
Speaker 1 (39:14):
I have?
Speaker 7 (39:14):
It's just okay, yes, I got tips on Brian Denny.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
I'll take it. Oh jeez, you should have taken Iowa.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
You should have.
Speaker 10 (39:24):
You Iowa, Iowa.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
That is game time.
Speaker 10 (39:32):
This is game time on The Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
She's mont So, I'm Dan Byer. Coming up next, Why
Major League Baseball needs to take a cue from the
NBA
