free road as a protection. Over ten thousand recommends dollars
tire raight dot com. So hey, tire buying should be
welcome in thank you. I thought the read went well
(00:41):
as well. I thought, I'm glad you recognized how good
that read was. You know, some people need everything to
be like you go to their desk and everything's perfect,
(01:02):
and you go to their dresser and everything's folded and
put away, and you go to their closet and it's
not just that everything's hung up, but they're color coded.
And you know, you have pants over here and shirts
over here, and jackets over there, and shoes over here,
and you're like, man, this is really somebody spent a
lot of time on this stuff, and there are people
(01:24):
that can only function when those things are done right
and lined out things very quiet, We speak to each
other that way, and it's very reasonable and YadA YadA,
YadA like all these things right, Okay, So it's just
really interesting to me on how some people perform better
(01:46):
that way. Some people like the pressure and the chaos
of not knowing what the future will be. Everyone is different,
and here's how it works. Tell me if this parallel
works to you. Okay, do you remember the show oh Man,
(02:07):
you can't do that on television? Well, it was like
what would you do? You guys? Remember it was like
a Sunday show on network TV, And basically there would
be scenes where they would put a baby doll in
a in like a stroller and let it roll right by,
(02:27):
you know, an outdoor seating area for a restaurant, looking
like the baby was rolling down the hill out of control,
gonna go into a car or gonna go into the
street or whatever. And they do it a bunch of times,
and you're trying to figure out, like, who's going to
react in a way in which saves this baby's life?
That wouldn't be a real baby. You're not gonna put
anybody really a danger. But they would do things like that,
(02:49):
and some people would do the amazing thing, and some
people would just sit there and watch the poor stroller
turn over and what they thought was a baby roll
to its ultimate death. The idea behind it is everybody
says they would do the right thing. Everybody thinks they
would do the right thing. Everybody believes that they would
act in a way in which was but the reality
(03:12):
is most people don't. It's just the same way with
if I said, hey, that team's under pressure. Everybody believes
in their heart they're better under pressure. Yeah, you put
pressure on me. That's when I really that's when the
because it sounds cool, reality is not everybody works that way.
(03:34):
Some people need security, some people need calmness. Some people
need to know this isn't the end of the world.
Some people need to be told, hey, dude, you either
do this or you're fired. Do this or don't come
back to work tomorrow. There is no more scholarship, there
is no playing time. Do it or be gone. That's
(03:55):
the reality to it. Everyone is different. And I bring
it up because I heard Jerry Jones, and he said
some really interesting things. Right, Jerry Jones was asked the
strategy behind letting his head coach go into the final
year of his contract. Right, there's a strategy of it, absolutely,
(04:15):
I really do. In terms of getting people's best when
they're backs upper against the wall. There's no question in
my mind that angst, pressure, competing will bring out the
best in the game from the coaches and players. But
in this game, this game, you have to have some
extra fire over those guys that you're in front of.
(04:37):
And that's why it's kind of amazed. I'm amazed by
someone talking about a job they're doing without a contract.
Blows my mind. You know, this is Cowboy Star Michael
Parsons giving props to his teammates. Oh, sorry about that,
So sorry about sorry, sorry about that. Okay, misread something.
(04:57):
So the idea is this that obviously he had to
relent and give Cede Lamb a contract, but he believes
that he's going to get the best out of Dak
Prescott and believes he's going to get the best out
of Mike McCarthy because he's going to have them thinking
they're coaching and playing for their football lives. Reality is
(05:17):
Mike McCarthy like, you got fire from the Packers and
you get the Cowboys out, but he's done a good
job record wise, you just haven't won in the playoffs.
Same thing for Dak Prescott. There does come a point
to where you're like, might walk from this guy. I
don't know if the Cowboys would really walk from him,
but at least let's see how he performs under pressure. Now,
the one thing about Dak is it feels like that's
not when he's at his best. It feels like Dak
(05:41):
is at his best when the pressure is the lowest,
or maybe not. It's not afraid of pressure, but there's
just a level that his skill set does not elevate too.
Mark McCarthy the same. Now, you got to if you're
gonna put your guys up against it, you gotta know it,
you gotta know what you dealing with. This guy is
(06:01):
better when there's pressure. I've often said that about Peyton
Manning in playoffs. Right. The reason that Peyton Manning is
such an incredible regular season quarterback was in the regular
season he could read a defense, pick things apart, throw
the ball. He just knew what you were gonna do
and in the playoffs, things get a little hairy, things
get a little crazy, And that's why sometimes it's better
(06:23):
to have a FARV who couldn't read a defense, didn't
try and read a defense. It wasn't an art, right,
but timing based offenses like the Colts had forever, you know,
and to a certain extent, the Broncos. You can knock
teams off their timing in the playoffs. You can be
a lot more physical with FARV. There was no play
calls or you know. It stands a reason Aaron Rodgers
(06:45):
like these guys are better when they're under pressure, when
they are playing backyard football, when they're just back there
Pat Mahomes and they're just back there making plays. They
don't do the pre staff reads. They don't pick you apart.
It's not the symphony that it was with pay Manning.
But when it's chaos, that's when they're not their best.
(07:05):
That's not your best. It's a gamble. It's a campbell
for Jerry Jones to behave this way. It's a gamble
to make plebui a play. But those gambles sometimes can
pay off. I don't know if that was the Baltimore
Raven's ultimate plan probably wasn't. They never got greatness out
(07:27):
of Joe Flacco again, but that one season of greatness
when his contract was up that ultimately they relented and
sign him to the biggest contract in the NFL. They
did get a super Bowl championship out of it. It
has worked before. Some people are better when they don't
know what their contract's like, but some people are not.
And you got to know how you are, and then
(07:48):
you've got to be able to articulate to your boss
what you need. What you need. By the way, Okay,
this is Micah Parsons giving props to his teammates Cede
Lamb about his new contract.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Congratulations to my man CD Lamb Man. Could be happier
for the guy. One of the best dudes in the
locker room, one of the best players on our team.
And to get the pay day, he got to take
care of his family. I come be more happy for CD.
So congratulations to my brother CD Lamb Man. It's a
dream to be watching you partner up with you and
soon up with you every week. So congratulations on your bread.
(08:25):
You earned every dollar.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Draft Kings has many ways to play fantasy football. Speaking
of fantasy football, let's take a look at the top
fantasy receivers in the league who will get in the
first round in your fantasy league. Number seven Garrett Wilson
of the New York Jets. Number six, A J. Brown
the Philadelphia Eagles. Number five Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings man.
(08:48):
I'm hoping he does for Sam Donald's sake. Number four,
I'm on Saint Brown of course, of the Detroit Lions.
Number three Jamar Chase. We know about the weird sit
in set out offseason he's had for the Bengals. Number
two ty Rekill. Number one, the guy who just signed
a new contract for the Dallas Cowboys. See d Lamb.

in the ESPN days, obviously a Hall of Famer and
a former San Francisco forty nine er. I thought this
was interesting. He does a weekly radio hit in San Francisco.
Here was the former quarterbacks take on Brandon a yuke
(09:59):
with his niners.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Most of us going to set the market, Trent's going
to set the market. Kind of get it in a way.
It's a bummer, like I wish that Trent would have
done this earlier or the forty nine ers, and I
get all that. But Brandon, because of his youth and
because he's not going to set the market yet wants
to set the market, says I want to be traded,
and then goes through this. I don't know how to
(10:22):
put it, but it was like, bro, if you want
to tear up the contract and do something big, then
you might want to pick you know, you might want
to go to the fifth year and go prove it out,
like to make sure that everybody's on board with you
setting the market. Or if you're going to ask to
be traded, then when they make a trade that works
(10:43):
for them, you got to say you're up for it.
You don't say, oh no, that doesn't work for me,
because then it was like, well, what do you want?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
They can get it mended.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
It's not like they're like broken relationships, but it's it's stretched,
it's strained, and I think at the end of the day,
Brandon's now sitting in front of a contract that's probably
four names of stretch as much as they possibly can.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
They don't want to set the market.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
They don't want to do they don't think it's the time.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
It was a very thoughtful answer. I'm not sure my
huge takeaway from it, Jay, ste what did you hear
with with with I felt like, again what I heard
was normally they don't mind setting the market, just not
for branding a yuk and not at this time. And
(11:30):
it's a general level of annoyance with a Yuke trying
to set the market and he's not that player. Is that?
Is that what you're hearing too?
Speaker 6 (11:38):
I think Steve Young is saying what a lot of
forty nine ers fans were saying, and that is s
or get off the pot, Like what's going on here?
What are you asking for? What do you need? What
you haven't really told us? What you're looking for contract wise,
and you have been uninterested in the trades that the
(11:58):
Niners have tried to facil irritate. What do you want?
I think the answer to the question is I want
to be sent to play with my my bestie in Washington,
and nothing short of that is acceptable.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
And I don't And that's not except like we're running
a business here, we're trying to win a Super Bowl.
We can't get back in return what we want for you.
You know, man, you know, let's lit's do this. Let's
welcome in John Metalcoff of course used to live in
the Bay Area, knows the Niners really really well, and
we'll get his take. Have you heard what Steve Young said, Jummy?
(12:37):
What was What did you take from what he said?
Speaker 7 (12:40):
Yeah? I mean I think everyone at this point is
struggling to figure out what Brandon's outcome like where he's
at right, because if it's simply he wants to be
paid like these other guys, he hasn't produced like these
other guys, so he's not going to get paid like
these other guys. So I do agree, there's merits to
stee Young just saying hey, if you want to show
(13:00):
everyone your ceedee Lamb and Justin Jefferson go out and
have ninety eight catches and fifteen touchdowns, but you're not
getting paid that much money on seventy five catches. And
he'd go, well, and his argument I always thought was well,
if I was somewhere else and featured, I would be
that guy. Then the Niners are like, Okay, here's your opportunity,
here's six here's three teams, and he said no. So
(13:23):
it's like, I can't even imagine being John and Kyle.
They have to just be pulling their hair out. Like
the Trent Williams thing is pretty basic. Right, I'm a
great player. I want more money, and I got you
kind of bent over, you know, the kitchen table and
sign the contract, like make me whole the brandon A thing.
It's like he hasn't been on the level as these
(13:44):
other guys, but clearly doesn't want a resolution, right. I mean,
eventually to get a deal done, it takes two to tangle.
You got to you gotta eat and play ball. I
don't know what reality he's living in, but I don't
see the Niners' budget.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
No, I don't see them budget either. Leave show here
on Fox Sports radio. It is really weird.
Speaker 7 (14:08):
Wants the benefit of the Niners team, They're a huge brand,
makes his name bigger or they're winning, and like also
be paid like he would be on some crappy game,
you know, which it doesn't really like. He's never You
go into a game Week one the Jets, right, the
first thing you think about is Christian McCaffrey. We got
(14:29):
to stop Chritian McCaffrey. Then, I don't think the next
thing you think about is brand, not you. It's like, well,
where are they lining up debot right, because a lot
of debo stuff is around the line of scrimmage. So
is he in the backfield? Is he moving around? And
then I think, you know, you kind of split it
between you can kittle, but it does. You can't pay
a guy Ceedee Lamb money when the number. When you
(14:51):
playing the Cowboy, Kyle, stop Cee Lamb. When you're playing
the Viking, Ky, do we stop? Justin Jefferson? You just
don't say that, you know. When the coaches meet at
whatever eight thirty am on a Monday morning after they
watched the previous games tape to dive into the next
opponent with Brandon Ayuk and that's what you get paid for.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I'm sorry, Yeah, I agree with you. It is a
Doug Gotlib show here on Fox Sport. Trady, what do
you think of the CD LAMB deal?
Speaker 7 (15:16):
Well, he was never going to not be a cowboy, right,
So really the only news we were waiting for is
what's he going to get paid? Then we see the numbers,
at least the last time. I haven't seen like every detail,
but they're very you know, they're in the ballpark of
Justin Jefferson. So Jerry Jones has known this right since
June third, I think the date was that they signed
(15:38):
Justin Jefferson. My theory was he wasn't gonna play it
all in the preseason, like it was just going to
be a lance you know, go out there and throw
a bunch of picks and prove that, you know, you're
one of the worst picks of all time. Ye maybe, Jerry,
you know, he's got some investments. My theory was he
was letting his money ride and basically trying to pay
for more of the contract these last three months because
(16:00):
he could a signed this deal a month ago. It's
not like the numbers.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Changed, no, it's it's it's an interesting. Maybe that's why
he wasn't stressed about it. He knew exactly what it
was going to be. Jerry also basically said that, hey,
Dak being in a contract year, Mike McCarthy being a
contract year, he thinks pretty performed better when their backs
are against the wall. My thought is some do, not all do.
How do you think they perform with with with that
(16:26):
hanging over their head?
Speaker 7 (16:27):
Yeah, I think that's an easy thing to say in theory.
Like you said, I mean, you have kids, you're coaching.
I mean, every human's different. And the other thing is
that most humans don't have to deal with Is there
really a comparable pressure to the Cowboys situation?
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Right?
Speaker 7 (16:42):
I mean there's the biggest brand in America. It's just
it's not really comparable to like ninety percent of the NFL.
So I hear them, But to me, the McCarthy thing,
I guess they've claimed out in the playoffs. But he's
been a major upgrade over Jason Garrett. Right, they've been
rattling off twelve wins. He's proved like, Okay, it's like
(17:03):
a boy coach up Aaron Rodgers. Well, yeah, he coach
up Dak. Prescott's good too, so he's proven, Like to me,
McCarthy's a real coach. I get the Dak thing because
this has been what like a decade now, a lot
of letdowns in the playoffs and the and the price
you have to pay is insane. We all know it'd
be very hard to replace him. But I get playing
(17:23):
that one out. You could argue the McCarthy things a
little unfair, like they fire him at let's say they
make the playoffs again and lose, they fire like who
they hire him like Mike Rabel, which I like Mike Brable,
But is that an upgrade over Mike McCarthy, You know,
I think it's yeah, you know, I think Belichick ends
(17:45):
up with the Eagles or the Giants or yeah, work
for Jerry like Watson Bill with McAfee, he was talking
about just some of the deals he likes. He doesn't
do deals like Jerry does deals. I mean, Jerry's like,
at the end, here's all the money. That is the
opt to the way Bill works. And I don't know
if he saw that article. I think Clarence Hill did
(18:05):
with a bunch of quotes from Jerry, how you'll never
you know, give up the GM spot. I just I
think it's fun to talk about. But the more you
think about it, it's like, even if Bill is cool
with letting like Howie or someone else kind of handle
that stuff, he would let Jerry. I don't know. I
have a hard time seeing that one.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. John mittlecaugh three,
now it's the podcast is our guest right now? Okay, John,
let's get to some of the other stuff. What do
you think that, Like, the Patriots are vacillating with quarterbacks,
They're not going to be very good? Are they just
not playing Drake May because they don't want to have
(18:45):
to bench Drake May? Whereas you played Jacoby Brissette, you
can very easily play Drake May when you want.
Speaker 7 (18:51):
Well, I think it's a couple of things. One, he's
he was one of the more raw guys of the
group in terms of like when you watch him on Saturdays,
he physically he had a bunch of tools, but he
was all over the map. So he was your classic
life This guy's upside super high. What's redshirt them? I
can't fathom playing Jacoby Brissett in these preseason games when
(19:12):
you're the other thing is their O line is atrocious.
So you play Jacoby Brissett who's thirty one years old,
and he's played a bunch like, You're not going to
be any good Internally.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
They know that.
Speaker 7 (19:23):
Why give him reps and put him in harm's way?
I mean, he got injured on the Sunday night game
to do because that happens, you got to put Drake
May out there unless you put the other rookie out
there to be a sacrificial lamb. But what if he
looks good? And then it just makes things weird because
I think they cut Zappi. So my overall take is,
I think New England's kind of a rudderless ship right now,
(19:46):
and I think they're in for a big no Belichick
welcome the reality moment these next couple of years.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
I tend to agree with you. I tend to really
really agree with you. What does that's a deal mean
for Ceedee Lambs? Deal mean for Jamar Chase.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
Well, I mean I think he could make the argument
like give or take a couple percent right and give
me the same deal, And I don't know he is
dealing with I would say one of the owners who
still kind of operates a little more like the the
eighties and nineties, though, I mean he gave Joe Burrow
a lot of money. Uh so, I you could argue
(20:25):
that's easier, Like who doesn't pay their quarterback when he's
that good? It doesn't I don't know. I mean this would,
wouldn't you agree? It'd be a little bit of a
turn if Mike Brown all of a sudden was like,
you know, I said, we're going to play this out
another year, now I'll pay you. You know, this gets
to the Jerry thing, like the owner of the GM.
They're all kind of the same guy, and it can
(20:45):
It's just it's a little different than some of these
other places. Like to me, if Jamar Chase was in
you name it, ninety percent of the league, he probably
would have got a contract four months ago.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah. I also think though that that since then he
has paid their own guys. You know, they're not going
to go out and overspending free agency. But you can
go back to Carson Palmer. Carson did and like what
they did with everybody else, but they did make him
the highest paid guy. It'll be. It's it's gonna be.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
I'm talking. I'm talking more. When he said like we
don't do deals after year three or you know, it's
not like they're not going to pay him. I just
they were more comfortable in like having another season and
then pay him after his fourth year. I get him
in Jefferson confused. I mean, this is this Chase's plate
three years, right, So this is this is going into
his fourth year because that's when he's eligible to be paid.
And I think they would just say, like, obviously you're
(21:35):
going to be on the team, long pick, long term,
but we plan on paying you after the fourth year.
A lot of teams try.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
To do that.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
I mean, I think the Cowboys right trying to do
that with Michael Parsons. The forty nine ers did that
with Nick Bosa. It does like, what's the point of
a rookie contract if I don't get even if you
were the fifth overall pick like Jamar to get four
years out of it. So it but this is where
I think the NFL, because these contracts now are approaching
like NBA Major League Baseball status. These numbers are so
(22:03):
big that this is where player empowerment of Like I
can't in football, you get injured, right, you could derail
your career. It's like I can't take another snap when
I have, and I don't blame an no human right
if I gave you, Hey, Doug, would you avoid all
disaster if you have one hundred million dollars waiting for
you on the other side, like you would do everything
humanly possible to make sure you get that hundred million dollars,
(22:25):
which I think has changed when the numbers were even
when it was like the difference between twenty five and
thirty million. Now you're just talking such big numbers that
these guys are like, I know, these are the rules
of the team, and you don't pay guys that three years,
but it's pretty clear that I'm in this level and
I can't risk having some dude take out my leg
and then it never being the same and then I'm screwed.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Yeah. Man, that's the voice of John Ment'll call three.
Now's the podcast I got leap show here on Fox
Sports Radio. I know, the longer we go, I think
Pittsburgh's a mess offensively. I just, you know, I just
do what's your level of concern with what they're going
to do on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 7 (23:03):
You know, I kind of have an overall take. Is
the AFC North right coming into last year and clearly
was one of the better divisions in football. The Ravens
were the one seed, Cleveland was awesome with Flacco and
the Steelers one ten games. I'm out on that that
division this year, right, I think starting with Pittsburgh, I
just think the drama because of the fame that those
guys have. It's like, well, these guys are more talented
(23:25):
than them previous years. Well yet, but no one cared
about any of their feelings. Now Russell's such a big name,
and even Fields is such a polarizing guy. If that
thing could get weird and they're on af their offensive
line being young, just isn't that good. You know, the
Ravens who've lost himself this offseason and just lost their
offensive line coach who literally, I mean who died over
(23:48):
the weekend. He's been on the on the roster or
i mean on the staffs since twenty seventeen, so there's
I would say the overwhelming majority of guys that have
been there for a long time have spent a lot
of time with him. That's pretty brattling. Obviously, They've they
lost other coordinators in the offseason. Cleveland is a mess, right.
I mean, Deshawn's health is let alone his play is
(24:08):
a major question mark. And then the Bengals, who I
kind of like the most, Joe Brookes should even practice
four straight days. So, I mean, it was kind of
an unprecedented injury for a football player, let alone a quarterback.
So I think that division, which has a lot of
individual talent and over the last couple of years has
been pretty incredible, has just a ton of major question
(24:31):
marks heading into just this early part of the season.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
I think Philadelphia is a team we've you know, you saw, hey,
you could see Belichick going there. There's the weird story
about the coach and the quarterback not connecting last year.
We haven't talked at all though about what the product's
going to look like. You know, last year it was
just they were ten and zero, but no one thought
they were that good and then they kind of fell apart.
(24:57):
What do we think of the Eagles this year? Question?
Speaker 7 (25:00):
I mean, on paper, their roster is really good. Now,
anytime you basically have three head coaches, you know the
history of the NFL that would say the red flag.
Yeah right, I mean, Vic Fangio doesn't have to answer
to anybody he gets to run the defense. They hired
Kellen Moore despite having an offensive head coach, and then
that article kind of elluded, like, yeah, they kind of
want Nick to separate away from there. So Nick leads
(25:22):
the team meetings. The other two guys really run the
half unit cost a weird bizarre thing, you know, So
that has a chance to fracture just anytime you have
that sort of division. I do think their talents are
pretty high. The main question mark is really center quarterback.
I mean, Jason Kelsey's one of the better players, you know,
in the history of the league at his position. Especially
(25:42):
what's crazy about his career It was really the second
half of his career when he became this all timer.
Well that that incorporates in Jalen's entire time with the Eagles.
So you lose that guy, even though they draft really
well offensive lineman. That's a huge blow on and off
the field. And then just Jalen, I mean, how does
he handle you know, let's say, Serry Eye is kind
(26:04):
of a hot head, and if even if Kellen Moore
is the head coach of the offense, things aren't going right,
can he contain himself? They start screaming at each other,
them and the Cowboys, like when adversity hits, just with
all the questions, like if adversity hits with the Rams
of the Niners are lions whatever, I mean, bumpie times.
We know all their guys are entrenched, their head coaches
(26:25):
aren't going with the Eagles and Cowboys. You know, people
are like, oh, it's so hyperbolic to say this guy's
going to get fired, Like it's not even debatable with
those two teams, right, Like one guy literally almost lost
his job six months ago and is definitely fighting for
his job. The other guy's on the last year of
his contract, so like and those I mean, the Cowboys
are the biggest media team. The Eagles are probably a
(26:47):
top five so and they always play each other. So
I mean that thing could get weird quick with the Eagles,
and I'd incorporate the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
There too, super super weird, could get weird super quick.
Speaker 7 (27:00):
They both just win. I mean they both they both
just have a lot of talent. I think the Cowboys
are going to be pretty good, and it's just they
just kind of fight off the noise by winning eleven
plus games.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Very possible? Are we Are we not talking about Arizona enough.
I only bring it up because, againnon he was kind
of a disaster in the early weeks, but in terms
of coaching, they were pretty good. Now Kyler's back fully healthy,
and should we talk at all about the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 7 (27:29):
I remember having a wide receiver coach tell me that
you can't argue Marvin Harrison's talents. He's like, the guy
is an incredible player on film, but the human and
even his data said this. When I didn't get thrown
the ball, I'd scream at Peyton or the quarterback or
the offensive coordinator. Marvin doesn't really say anything, and the
wide receiver coach said, what's going to happen week one?
(27:51):
When he's not playing Rutgers or Minnesota. The guy across
from him is a twelve million dollar player with three homes,
two Pro Bowls, and three kids is and they don't
have anyone else to really like. Their receiver room is him.
So we're at Ohio State. Obviously he became the elite guy,
but he had help. I mean, they had a crew
(28:12):
of dudes and that adjustment where like Rome, for example,
gets to go to the Bears, it's like, what are
you gonna do is double cover him when they got
Keenan and DJ Moore. So it's gonna be a huge
adjustment for Marvin and to me, the offense like and
I like Marvin Harrison, I like Terrey McBride. James Connor
is a good player, but it just does it all fit.
(28:34):
And I don't know if you read Sando's article in
The Quarterbacks, I thought they summed up Kyler pretty well.
It's like his flash play and his just physical skills
on an individual, like a series, a drive, a back
to back play stretch as good as anybody in the league.
Mahomes Josh Allen. But over the course of a game,
over the course of a month, over the course of
a season, does that consistently translate? And history would say no.
(28:58):
So like he's kind of a role or coaster ride
despite being this like like Bryce Young, let's say he
ends up stinking or like Terry Lance Clear is how
they good? You watch him? You go, yeah, they don't
really see it. No one ever says that when they
watch Kyler right, like gotten, this little guy is a freak. Now,
I don't think their defense is good enough, but because
of that, it's like a random NBA team with like
(29:19):
one third team all NBA guys, like they could beat
you on any given night, Like they might only win
six games, but three of them could come against the Rams,
the Niners, and like the Packers.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
You know, completely agree. They could go a lot of
different directions. I think they're gonna be a little bit
better than people, but maybe I could be. I could
be way off there. We'll we'll see. That'said John Metlcoff

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Hey there, Monsy b, what you got? What up?
Speaker 8 (30:26):
Coach, Well, it is Tuesday, so what are we playing.
We already kind of told you rank them. We gave
you a little hint there, a little foreshadowing because Iowa
Sam was so excited, so Doug college football. I mean,
we had a week zero. It is just around the corner.
It is all gonna kick off really soon as we
wait for the NFL, who basically is on the first
(30:46):
bye week, we can say to start the regular season.
So you're gonna be ranking a bunch of college football stuff.
All right, let's start rank the top three schools when
it comes to college football in the Big twelve.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Not teams this year school like we're just doing this year.
Speaker 8 (31:06):
We're doing overall this year, like going into this team's
going into twenty twenty four. The top three teams.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Okay, I'm going to say number three is Kansas Believe
or not?
Speaker 9 (31:19):
Oh okay, see.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
The McDaniel's back. And then number two I'm gonna put
Utah Jutah, and number one is Oklahoma.
Speaker 9 (31:29):
State Oklahoma State. All right, Okay, well you're gonna do
the same thing, but we're gonna move to a different conference.
You're gonna rank the top three schools in the big.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Ten, a big ten, the Big ten.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Number three is going to be is going to be Penn.
Speaker 8 (31:50):
State, Penn State.
Speaker 9 (31:52):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Number two is Oregon, Okay, and number one is Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
Oh, Ohio.
Speaker 6 (32:00):
Date.
Speaker 9 (32:01):
You don't have Michigan in there.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
No, they lost a lot from last year and they
have a new coach. Lose hardball, lose you know, most
of your defense. No, no, just no in your quarterback.
Speaker 9 (32:12):
Yeah, okay, makes sense, makes sense?
Speaker 8 (32:14):
All right, all right, right, the top three schools in
the s.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
E CEC South Southeastern Conference, I will go with hard
I'm gonna go with.
Speaker 8 (32:32):
Oh it's a little harder, a little harder.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Well, it's just trying to I'm gonna go with Bama
at three, Okay, Texas at two, and Georgia.
Speaker 9 (32:46):
And Georgia at number one. Oklahoma's not in there. No, no, no,
all right, okay, let's move on here.
Speaker 8 (32:56):
Obviously this is a prediction for you, Doug. But rank.
That's three coaches that could be Coach of the Year
in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
For college football, Yes, for college football. Okay, top three coaches.
Speaker 8 (33:12):
Okay, I'm put now that Nick Saban is gone.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
You know, Lance Leepold who continues do an amazing job
at Kansas. Put him at three.
Speaker 8 (33:20):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
I think you know there's a world there where you
know Texas A and m has a surprising season with
Mike Elko in his first year. I'll put Mike Elko
at two. Wow, okay, and then at one one I'm
(33:46):
gonna do Lincoln Riley low expectationed sc not crazy. I
think they have a surprising year. Lincoln Riley at one. Wow.
Speaker 8 (33:53):
No, Kirby Smart.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
No, I mean, like everybody knows Kirby Smart's really good,
but he's also won two national titles, so he's not
going to get Coach of the Year.
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Mm hmm, I see, I see what you I see? Okay,
all right, all right, let's go to the next one. Here,
Doug rank the three players that could be Heisman Trophy
candidates in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
Move Heisman Trophy candidates is so hard because we graduated
so many from last year. I'm not a I'm not
a huge Dylan Gabriel guy. I'll go Carson Beck at three, okay, Okay.
(34:37):
I'm gonna do Jalen Milroe at two, and I'm going
to say Jackson Dart at one from Ole miss Wow.
Speaker 8 (34:49):
Yeah, no, Dylan Gabriel, no quinn Ewers from Texas.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
Like Queen yours.
Speaker 8 (34:54):
Jenna could have been in there, could have been there,
could have been there, could have been there.
Speaker 9 (34:58):
All right, okay, all right, here we go.
Speaker 8 (35:01):
Doug rank the top three mascots in all of these
schools college football.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Top three mascots the actual physical mascot.
Speaker 8 (35:11):
Yes, yes, okay, well.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Pistol peach one. Pistol pas one. So who's three and two?
I continue to think that why am I Ralphie the
Buffalo has to be up there? We'll but Ralphie is two?
Speaker 9 (35:30):
Okay, yeah, okay, sure.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Ralphie is two. And then I like Uga. I like
the bulldog right there sidelines, Ralphie, pistol p.
Speaker 9 (35:44):
Those are pretty good.
Speaker 8 (35:45):
I like those. I do like those.
Speaker 9 (35:47):
All right, that's game time.
Speaker 4 (35:54):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlief Show.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
You know, if you you ever heard the if you
parachute it in from outer space, if you parachute in
from outer space, and he said, take me to America's
greatest sporting events, and they take you to an NFL game,
and with all of the incredible things they have in
these stadiums, all the replays, all the use of technology,
(36:20):
even the use of advanced analytics, we still mark the
ball okay, with eyesight we can correct it. And then
we have the chain game, which keeps track of first
and ten yards to gain whatever like. That's really really rudimentary,
So come up next, first, chain gang not going anywhere. Secondly,
(36:41):
how would that compare to other kind of grandfathered in
rules in sports that, again, had you parachuted in from space,
wouldn't make any sense. We'll have that discussion next in
the Doug Gotlib Show Fox Sports Radio.
