and we are broadcasting from the Tirack dot com studios.

(00:39):

be by the way about fifteen to twenty minutes from now.
Bernie Fratto. You hear him on weekend overnights, he will
join us. Bernie lives in Vegas. He covers everything, but
nobody knows the gambling space quite like Bernie. So we'll
(01:02):
talk a little. I talked to Bernie a little bit
this morning. I said, we'll do a little college football
with him. We'll get a little NFL look ahead. Week
one is coming VJ.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
That is my guy. I love me, but I call
him big money Bags Burns. Well, yeah, big money bag
burn Yeah, big money bags Burns.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Well, he's the best.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
They'll be joining us about fifteen minutes from now, and
when we get to the Cavino on Rich Show, we
will definitely start looking ahead to the NFL season ahead,
because of course we are now what about seventy two
hours or so away from kickoff of Baltimore and Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Look at the skill, look at the box, look at
the goosebumps.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Day there. I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I will tell you the Thursday was the day it
hit me. When I was watching the Colorado game, I
was like, we're so back and you know, I.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Mid August. It was just like I can't do prediction.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Like we've all had our takes on the Jets, the Chargers.
Can anybody beat my homes? And you know and so
and by the way, same in college, you know who's good? Well,
how does the twelve team playoff? What's the bor gonna be?
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Like?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
How is Texas gonna be in the SEC How Sharon
More gonna be And it's like Thursday, it was like
we get to actually react to stuff. We get to
react to stuff. So seventy two hours from the NFL,
one week of college football in the books as well,
pretty notable result out of the swamp. Nick just told
(02:28):
us a minute ago that cam Ward, the Miami quarterback.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Not was it very intimidated by the swamp.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
The Hurricanes didn't appear to be intimidated at all because
they just ran right over, around, and through the Florida Gators.
Miami beats Florida forty one to seventeen on Saturday, five
hundred and twenty nine yards of total offense for Miami,
two hundred and sixty one yards of total offense for Florida,
and seventy one of those yards came on one rushing
(02:56):
touchdown from Montreal Johnson. So we're talking about under two
hundred yards rushing for the Florida Gator, yeah, or for
two hundred yards of total offense ecuse me for the
Florida Gators. The issue, of course, is that this continues
a trend under Billion Napier, back to back losing seasons
Florida if you go back to the Dan Mullens final year,
actually three straight losing seasons for the first time since
(03:18):
the forties. Billy Napier, the head coach, was asked about
the situation at the press at the situation with his
team at his press conference earlier today. This is sound
from Monday. Here is what he had to say about
what needs to change with his program.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
We got to go to work on the football part,
you know, and I think we got to get more.
We got to become a more consistent team, and we
have to execute better. And if we can focus on
those things and not necessarily what some guy in his
basement saying and you know, rural central Florida on social media,
then we got a chance to get better.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Right, So let me ask you this, peju.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
First of all, I had several Florida fans point out
they don't have basements in Florida because they flood during
hurricane season. So that's neither here nor there, you know what,
that's the I'm just going to shut up. That's the
first time you have heard that sounds. I'm going to
give you the on what you think about billion Apier
calling out fans in rural Central Florida in their basements
(04:20):
on social media.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Wow that and number one, that is the first time
I'm hearing that.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
You can play it again. If you want to hear
it again, Please.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Do play that for me again, brother, play that. Say
this was Billionapier at its press conference today.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
We got to go to work on the football part.
I think we got to get more. We got to
become a more consistent team, and we have to execute better.
And if we can focus on those things and not
necessarily what some guy in his basement saying, and you know,
rural central Florida, I got social media, then we got to.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Yeah, that's that's bad. That's bad. That's bad. That's bad.
That's real bad. Let me tell you something right now.
The one thing that I coach with my kids, the
one thing that I talked to my friends, even like
let's say for this like the dating world, right even
in your friendships, your relationships with your family, accountability is
so important in life. That sounded like he's blaming the kids,
(05:14):
and he's blaming the fan. I don't give a I
don't give a damn about a fan and what a
fan says, even about VJ. The radio guy. I don't
read that stuff. I don't care. I'm the one in
the chair, you're not. And I hate the sound like
that jerk radio guy. But that is just the fact.
I'm the head coach of Florida. We play for the Gators,
(05:36):
we represent. You had Javon Curse here, you had Tim
Tebow here, Danny Warful and his son was there, and
this is the product you put on the field and
you go to the podium and the first thing you
do is escape yourself of accountability, opposite of what Brian
Kelly did. And I gave him a salute.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
This is bad.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Now I'm starting, Aaron. I was trying to wrap my
head around a lot of people really saying that this
guy's not gonna last you yourself. I would listen to
you guys on the right home the other you and
other peop They're like, bro, this this guy all the jokes,
and I'm like, God, what is it so bad about
coach Naper. I'm trying to figure it out. Maybe I
haven't been watching them close enough. I cover a lot
of stuff, man, so some stuff slip slips through my fingers.
(06:16):
But wow, this was really really bad for an upper
echelon coach and an upper echelon program, the Florida Gators
the swamp for you to say, we got to get
back to the football part and don't work. Who's worried
about it?
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Coach?
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Let me ask you that, who are you talking to?
Are you reading social media? Is your defensive coordinator reading
social media? Who are you talking?
Speaker 6 (06:38):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
You must be talking about the players. That's bad, bro,
That is so much unaccountability. That actually just kind of
pissed me off just now.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Well, and you know what actually pisses me off is
there was a lot of negativity around the program.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Wow, but the Florida fan showed out on Saturday pact
not to see I actually looked before the game.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
It was about the get price in a stadium that
holds ninety thousand people was close to two hundred dollars. Okay,
so it's like one hundred and sixty one hundred and
seventy bucks. Your fans had your back, Your fans were
begging to just have a good product on the field.
And nian Jmar talked about this on Saturday. If you
(07:19):
lose to on a walk off field goal, and it's
the best game that's ever been played, that's one thing.
But you get embarrassed at home to a rival. And
this is a point you brought up earlier VJ about
Brian Kelly, which is a good one. It's year three
for Billion Apier, It's year three for Mario Christobal. This
is the portal era. I'm not saying you gotta beat Georgia,
(07:42):
and I'll be honest the Gator fans that I talked to,
it wasn't about we have to beat Georgia and Texas,
who are both on the schedule later in the year.
But this is a game in state rival, thirty year
head coach at Miami. It's not like Crystal Ball's been
there ten years and his thing's been rolling at the
highest level.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
He's had to flip his program around. He had to
flip his program around. He took over the same time
you did.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
So that is where my frustration would be if I
was a Gators fan, because I'm sitting there saying I
came out, I spent hundreds of my hard earned dollars
and you're.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Worried about me in my basement.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
How about you worry about blocking and tackling, because you
didn't do very much of that on.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Saturday man that, like I said, that really just got
to me because you can't. You have no business being
a coach of a Power five conference school if you
can't just stand at the podium and just say, look,
it's on us, It's on the coaches. We got to
coach better. I hate to bring this back around on myself.
My team didn't play so well this past week. He's
a high school football country I coach. I coach Birminghamigh School.
(08:43):
Also shout out the coach full day. He just texted
me he's listening. I'm bringing more listeners. Coach Chef Jasmine
just Chef jazsm was listening too. I'm bringing more listeners
the Fox Sports Radio. But I told my team after
film studying, I said, I'm going to take fifty percent
of the blame.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
I didn't coach you guys up this week.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
It's on me. Okay, but we're past that. The stuff
that I've been coaching you on you're still not doing.
But there are a lot of mistakes. I will own
the same thing after the scrimmage we had two weeks ago.
I'm the first one to say, listen, I'm gonna take
some of the blame on this because I gotta I
gotta coach you better. I gotta figure out how to
get to all of you guys individually mentally and get
(09:18):
you to the point that I can make you good
young men first and then good football players.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
That's how I.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Approach every single day I step on the field with
my whistle. But I will never just say, oh man,
it's the kids and the kids on the internet and
the kids on this guess what. The Internet's not going nowhere.
Social media is not going nowhere. Kids on TikTok and
brand nil money, you got people, make it, you got stuff.
Every time I cut on the internet, Juju Smith and
Juju al Watkins is doing something new right, And it's
(09:45):
a beautiful young lady out here in La there doing
her thing for USC. But that's that's the world we're
in as grown men. We need to adjust to that
as coaches, not try to tell them not to do it,
because that's not gonna work. I tried that. That's not
gonna work. You have to learn how to adjust and
be accountable to what you were doing. He didn't have
them ready to play? How about that?
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Well, that's two other things on top of everything else.
Is he said, we just have to execute better. They
had two penalties for twenty five yards. Now, both of
them were crushing penalties because they kept drives going.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
But it's not like It's not like they lost.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Because eleven penalties for one hundred and fifteen yards they lost.
And yeah, they lost because Miami was better at every
single freaking position. But here's the other thing, too, man,
there's a way to tell your players. And this is
one thing I think Saban did a good job of
to block out the noise without calling out the fans.
He could have even said it in a manner like this, Hey,
(10:41):
you know, we need to execute better. To your point, VJ,
we need to execute better. A lot of it is
on me. I didn't do a good enough job having
them ready, but we also got to make sure that
they block out the noise and focus on the guys
in this building. But to call out the fans specifically
who are angry, and by the way, fans have a
right to be angry, okay, because the product stinks.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
By the way, just for people who don't know all
of the facts.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Back to back losing seasons, He's now eleven and fifteen
as the Florida head coach. It says year three, six
and ten in the SEC, lost to Vanderbilt in year one.
Last year lost to Arkansas, which was their only SEC win,
their first ever win at the Swamp. So it's not
just that you're losing to Georgia and now Texas is
on the schedule. Whatever, You're losing team two teams that
(11:29):
the Florida Gator should never lose to. But then again,
you get embarrassed by Miami when that program is on
the same timeline and trajectory as you are.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
And not only that, all they really added. They have
some talent there, but their main piece they just brought
in a quarterback from Nil, a transfer kid. Like it
wasn't like it was a whole roster overhaul. And they
have all these top notched kids. If you get enough
good portal kids, you could put together a pretty damn
good football team. Okay, you get a receiver from Mississippi
(11:58):
State and then you get a kicker from Arkansas State. Eum,
you get a left guard from Akron, and yeah, you
can find a bunch of good kids and your coaches
better do you guys better dial in.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
It's not going anywhere. God like me loves it.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
If I can change my program in a year and
a half, if I changed my program in sixteen months,
just by convincing the kids to leave that smaller college
to that other program where he feels maybe underappreciated, where
he feels a little disrespected. Yeah, buddy, come over here.
We'll show you love over here. Oh, by the way,
we got filetman, young and lobster. Every Tuesday and Wednesday,
we feed you good. You can go twenty four to seven.
We don't put no restraints on it. All the gatorade,
(12:33):
all the water, all the protein shapes, we got all
that for you.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Brother. Don't worry. We'll take care of everything.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Okay, just come play football here, baby, Transfer your credits
over here, baby, come get your degree over here. You
better lock in napier. Doesn't feel like I got to
get do that also too. You want to talk about
some of these numbers, that one hundred and thirty nine
yards on the ground. They were running the football like
they were one on one play exactly true, true, seventy
one on one player right, Okay, well, eighty six stat
thanks Aaron.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
But that's what I mean is they got you. You
and Martin were on during the game so I know
you couldn't watch as close as I would, but it's like, dude,
like you just got Emba. And the other thing too,
is this is just coaching pr That's not what a
fan wants.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Even even if you were, even if you.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Really think that's to blame, which you shouldn't. But even
if the negativity is getting to you, which it shouldn't,
you get paid eight nine million dollars a year to
you know, by the way, telling your players to block
it out. To the point you just brought up vj I,
it must mean that you're paying attention to it.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
So he probably blame on the players because he's paying
attention to it. The fans, not the players. Bro and
the fans who I'm paying. I know, people get mad
when you say this.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
The fans don't pay your clary, you know, they whatever,
the fans are a big part of what allows you
to get paid eight nine million dollars a year, whatever
it is.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
And it's like to blame the fans.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
I never get that, Aaron. I just never do it.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Aaron.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
When I read back, like you know, negative comments on
like Twitter or YouTube or whatever, a lot of times
I normally comment back, Hey, I appreciate. I appreciate you
tuning in. Thanks for the support. Yeah, how'd this guy
get a show? If it that all guy that VJ
guys on. I hate this guy. Tell them thanks for
listening and I appreciate your support. I don't need the
I don't need the fire back. Once again, you're the coach,
(14:21):
none of those guys. If any of those guys could coach,
that's talking about you, they'd be coaching.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
They're not.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
You are the head coach of the Florida Gators, the swamp.
You don't need to be paying attention to none of
that stuff. You're the one that's listening to the noise.
The kids aren't tell you the five hundred and twenty
nine yards a total offense for the Canes. How about
you talk to your.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Defense and I just go back to If anything, I
give the fans credit because coming off back to back
losing seasons, they were loud and they were ready to go.
In that game, Florida ends up losing. By the way,
it doesn't get much easier for them. They get Texas
A and m at home in two weeks, and obviously
I think most people know about the back half of the.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Schedule hard the schedule in college football.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Yes, last five games are against teams that were ranked
in the preseason top fifteen. Georgia on a neutral at Texas,
LSU at home, Ole Miss at home at Florida State. Oh,
by the way, I also got a trip to Tennessee
mixed in there. Four and eight loading, four and eight loading.
If me and J Martin went over this the other
day on our show, is I mean, you can pull
(15:20):
up schedule if you want.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
It's hard. It's hard to find the.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Wins because because you know, and I told J Martin
this the other day, is you know, everybody freaks out
about the schedule in June and July, but stuff happens,
right Look at Florida State all of a sudden, Florida
State isn't as good as we think, right A and
M maybe not as far along as we think. So
I just bring it up because there was a window
where you're like, okay, well if this breaks right and
(15:44):
that breaks right, they get to six and six, seven
and five. Because what I can tell you, I know
this for a fact, Florida doesn't want to fight. They
don't want to pay him. He bowed over twenty five
million dollars in buyout money. They want this to work.
But you look at that schedule man A and M
and a couple weeks at Mississippi State. That's not gonna
be easy because that place is loud. It's just four
(16:06):
and eight might be loading. And if four and eight happens,
he ain't keeping that.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Money and money it don't matter.
Speaker 7 (16:09):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
The saga and I talked about that the other day,
is the bios like twenty plus million dollars, dog, that's
that's peanuts to them.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
They listen. They want to win, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
And you know the other thing too, And I know
most people know this, but most of it is either
offset if he gets another job or like the Jimbo
Fisher like people were freaking out about the buy out,
then you find out it's like paid out over like
a ten year period. So it's like, Yeah, you don't
want to be paying a guy seven million dollars a
year not to coach, but you're not giving him a
check for seventy five million dollars tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Yeah, so we'll see.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I'm not running against him, but that quote right there
was just shocking. Yeah, that was shocking. Wow, And he's
one that's usually pretty careful.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
With his words.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
But whatever, if you missed it again, billion Eate, you're
calling out fans in their basements in rural central Florida.
And as I had a couple of people pointing out
on me on t when I saw this video, most
places in central Florida don't have basements, of course, because
of hurricies. It was hurricane season in the swamp. I
can tell you that because cam Ward and those boys
ran through him.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Anyway.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Fox Sports Radio aer Tours Jason Martin, Jason Martin, excuse me, no,
Jason is on.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Yeah. It's all good, bro, You're used to it. It's
your partner. It's all good.
Speaker 3 (17:18):

mo Man, what's up brother?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
How you doing?
Speaker 10 (19:00):
Hey, guys, thanks for having me. I got to say,
a fantastic weekend of football. As we've said a thousand times,
sports continue to be the greatest reality show. And you
could script everything but the ending.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Let me ask you this, Burne.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
We're gonna get to some NFL stuff in a minute,
but let's look back to college football. If I said
to Bernie Frattle, the biggest story from week one in
college football, in your opinion is the floor is yours?
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Go ahead.
Speaker 10 (19:24):
You know that's a tough one because there weren't a
real big stories. But Georgia's dominance over Clemson sort of
answered two questions. Is Georgia that is still the best
team in college football even didn't win last year yet?
And is Dabble Sweeney's career done? Yes, listen, I know
they haven't had great quarterback play, but feel free to
(19:46):
play defense adapt or die dablos. Swinney just has refused
to embrace the transfer Portland and Io and look, Jim
Harbaugh didn't like it either, but he used it to
backfill in any advantage. So and there were lots of storylines. Really,
you could find on it just about every game, Notre Dame,
Texas A and N Colorado, North Dakota State, LSU USC
(20:07):
last night. But I think the dominance, incredible dominance that
Georgia showed over Clinton, who people were trying to tell
us was back to me stuck out.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
My man, Bernie Fridays. I just told Aaron doing commercial break,
I call them big money burns bags.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Baby, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Man?
Speaker 1 (20:23):
How you doing? Brother?
Speaker 10 (20:24):
Good to be with you, Good to be with both
of you, guys. VJ Copeall as welcome?
Speaker 4 (20:28):
Yeah, all as well, man. So let's stick with college football.
Let's move on to a program you and I are
very familiar with and very close with. To my near
Darren hard is my defending national undisputed champion the Michigan Wolverines.
Wasn't too disappointed about the game because it felt like
to me with Texas coming in Charon Moore and then
they didn't want to show too much. But I'm not
really big on this dual quarterback thing. Reminds me when
(20:51):
they were doing it with k McNamara and JJ McCarthy,
which I got because they weren't trying to lose one
to the transferporter, which they ended up doing in k
mcnamair break this thing down for me, is it David?
Is it war in the quarterback? Or should they just
go with Alex Orgy? The guy's not the best passer.
But you kind of get a Cam new In kind
of feel about this guy.
Speaker 10 (21:10):
Man.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
Where where should they be going to? What did you
think about Michigan's game against Fresno State.
Speaker 10 (21:14):
So I was in Michigan August sixth, and I talked
to some X players and still maintaining my contacts, and
here's what I was told heading into the season. And
I'll answer your question directly. They'll still have one of
the best defensive front sevens in college football. If you've
got Will Johnson, the best cornerback in college football. Yes,
but you're not going to have anywhere near the depth
(21:35):
you had last year, the skilled players you have last year,
and they were spoiled the quarterback. There's a reason JJ
McCarthy went twenty seven and one. He wasn't have to
do a lot when it was third down, red zone,
fourth quarter, the man showed up. I asked specifically about
the quarterback battle, and at that time it was Alex
Orgy and Jack Cuddle and Sharon Moore had a legit
(21:57):
competition going. All of a sudden, Davis Warren comes out
of nowhere. Here's a kid who had to beat leukemia
and he was a former walk on. And I know
they ripped Jeroan Moore for starting Davis Warren, but Droan Moore,
I'm going to defend him only because he said, when
it came to running the offense all the packages, Warren
(22:18):
will steal the best choice. Obviously, there are packages that
Alex Orgie can run that Warren can't, vice versa. But
when it comes to running all of them, et cetera.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Et ce.
Speaker 10 (22:27):
So I think you're gonna see Davis Warren as the starter.
They only allowed Orgy to throw two passes the other day.
Here's the problem with Michigan. Though offensively, they're going to
be challenged. We got to be honest about this. They
only had one hundred and twenty one yards through the
air and they only average four point three yards per attempt.
That in and of itself is very bothersome. So let
(22:50):
the season play itself out. Texas comes in for you
betting walks. The last time Michigan was a six and
a half point under dog was three years ago against
their house date and they went out right. Do I
think they're beating Texas? No, but I want to see
how they play, let the season play out. I think
what you're going to see. The answer question directly, I
don't take it forever to get there is Davis Warren
(23:10):
continue to be the starter with some packages for alex Orgy.
That's what it looks like it's going to be right now.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Last college football question for me. Then you know VJ
Cago wherever he wants. But I do want to get
to some NFL with you as well. A program that
I've been a little bit more down on than most
Penn State. Respect what they have been, but also understand
what they haven't been. They have been able to beat
Michigan Ohio State, especially these last couple of years as
Michigan has evolved into an elite program. Bring it up
(23:38):
to say, Drew Aller looked pretty good the other day
against West Virginia. Not sure what your moles are saying
are more importantly just what your big picture takeaways are
of Penn State. Is this finally the year they have
somewhat solved that offense.
Speaker 10 (23:53):
I don't think they've solved the offense. And if you
saw the game against West Virginia drew allers still only
through for two undred and sixteen. You know, I saw
this guy coming out of high school. He looked all
the world throwing the ball, right. But I gotta tell you,
you know, their offense looks moribunded. It's boring to me.
Clearly West Virginia was over match. Penn State ran the
(24:13):
ball on them, did whatever they want. They're still going
to be a run first team. You know, it comes
down to their schedule, and there's certain games Penn State
wins and there's certain games they don't. I think they've
got to play out. I don't see them as a
playoff team like other teams, do you know. I think
you're going to see three or four. You're going to
see Ohio State, Oregon, you know, the big boys. I
don't know that they're a playoff team there. And I
(24:34):
got to see more. Honestly, buddy, I'm still not still
on them.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Yeah, I'm with you on somebody that got to see more.
One of my takes from this weekend. I just sat
back and watched football, Bernie. I'm trying not to judge
too much of it, because, like you said, it's one
weekend college high school. We don't get to play other people.
We don't get the print scrimmage, we don't get preseason.
And when you buckle the chin strap and strap on
the show to pass and put the game uniforms on,
(24:59):
you really don't know what you're gonna get, man.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
So I'm with you on that.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
I'm holding my breath on making too many comments about
what's going on. Let's flip over to the fun stuff
that I think you are outright The best in Vegas
at doing is some of these over underwin totals in
the NFL. And we'll start with my beloved Miami Dolphins.
That locked up my man Oose, They locked up Tyreek,
they locked up the Penguin, and then they locked up
(25:22):
the big Coppo in charge, my God, Mike McDaniel. Vegas
has got in at nine and a half, first seven Jags,
Bucks Buffalo at Seattle, Tennessee, at the Patriots Indiana and
the Cards. I feel six and one, five and two.
I'm taking the over on this nine and a half.
Am I right, Are You're gonna tell me a reason
why I should go under and I'm wrong?
Speaker 10 (25:43):
Oh No, I think Miami's an eleven eleven win team,
maybe even a twelve win team. Not only are they
shut on offense, they scored more points than anybody. They
had John Robinson as an edge rusher, and I think
they're better in Mike mcgangels system that they've they've ever been.
So for them, it's a matter of how far they
go in the playoffs. If they have to go play
a hot, cool weather team and sure December, that's going
(26:05):
to be a challenge. But I got to tell you,
don't be surprised, don't be surprised at all if they're
playing to win the AFC East. I like this team
a lot.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
If I can't just piggyback on that another team in
that division, you know, I love to call them the
bum ass Jets because they just going to beat the
butm ass Jets to me until my cast get closes
nine and a half. Aaron and I were talking during
the break. They can either be really good, Bernie, are
they going to be really bad this year? I just
don't see no middle ground. You like that nine and
a half? Is it juicy enough for you to take
a bet on the over under edd or would you
(26:35):
just leave it alone? And where do you think those
Jets are going to be this year?
Speaker 10 (26:39):
To stay away for me, because first of all, Aaron
Rodgers has to be healthy. He has to start fifteen
games for this team to be competitive. Here's the kicker.
They were able to manage seven wins last year with
pretty mediocre quarterback play. The problem is they only score
two hundred and sixty eight points. Was an offense I
(27:00):
couldn't score with a fist full of fifties in a
women's room. The bottom line is it they're going to
have to get much better offensive play. There's a problem
though that hasn't been reported. I don't like their culture.
I like Robert Shala, I don't think he's a good
head coach. I think they're full of distractions. Well, we
don't know what's going to happen when the heat gets
hard to breathe, and if you find yourself in October
and you're three and four, they've got a tough You know,
(27:23):
there are no easy games in the NFL. But they've
got a couple of stretches that are really really going
to test him, including the final three games of the season.
Five games of the season. They got to go to Miami,
they got to play the Rams at the Bills in December,
and then you know the Dolphins again. So the bottom
line is it's a tough start for the schedule, it's
(27:44):
a tough end of the schedule. And how are they
going to react to adversity. That's the thing we don't know.
I think it's an odd culture.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
There last one for me, Burn, I'll just ask a
big picture Thursday night. You know, if you don't have
a pick, that's totally fine, but we're all excited. Ravens
at Kansas City. Expect to see when those two teams
kick off about seventy two hours from now.
Speaker 10 (28:05):
I think you're going to see a lot of offense.
I think you're going to see two teams getting after it.
It's hard for me to believe the Chiefs lose that
game at home after losing to Detroit last year. This
is a focused team. I think they have an excellent
chance of three peating. I really mean that. I will
not be involved in that game. I will tell you
one strong trend that's been there since twenty fourteen, seventy
(28:26):
six percent. Divisional dogs Week one covered a seventy six
percent clip in the last nine year, the Raiders catching
three and a half against the Chargers, hat Carolina catching four,
four and a half against New Orleans, and then the
Holes catching two and a half at home against Houston.
It's been a formula that's been rock solid for nine years.
Why both teams are at full strength. Depression hasn't set
(28:49):
in for the bad teams yet. The teams with the
better athletes haven't really gotten into gear to week two,
week three, and so you're going to get max effort,
best effort at full strength week one in a divisional matchup,
and your divisional games are like two, they're count like
US two. So Divisional dogs Week one have been absolute
rock solid in the last nine years. Beyond that, currely
(29:11):
tough card, got to be very careful Week one, you
gotta be careful. I don't recommend teachers week one. I
don't recommend totals week one. Let's have it, Let's see
how this thing plays out.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
Berdie Fridle, Fox Sports Radio and guess right now on
The Doug Ottley Show.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Aaron Torres VJ.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Husky Filling and Berti Fridle Show you got can catch
on the weekends here on Fox Sports Radio. Great betting expert.
Here last one for me too, Man, the forty nine ers.
They get AYU done. Still no Trent. We've seen these
trends of teams that are really good and coming off
of Super Bowl losses, and only two teams in the
last thirty years have been back right. It's been the
(29:45):
Buffalo Bills in the New England Pagers after a loss.
And I'm kind of in, but I kind of want
to get out of the Niner business going back to
the Super Bowl. I know they got the deal done,
but it just it just feels weird. Party didn't look
good all preseason. I know it is preseason, Bernie, but
the tape don't lie. You're still out there, you still
got pazo, You're still throwing the ball around. Help me
(30:07):
pull out. So I don't go all back in on
the Niners this year.
Speaker 10 (30:11):
Well, you got to get Trent Williams in there. They're
they're really not the same team without him. We all
know that. And let's face it, here's a guy he's
not afraid tomit the game check He's made one hundred
and forty eight million dollars in his career, and yet
you know he's still he will stand down if he
needs to.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (30:30):
They open up against the Jets on Monday Night football.
We're going to see what they look like right out
of the gate. Over the aggregate. Rock Purty still runs
that offense, Honest to god, guys, the preseason means nothing.
I covered the greatest preseason team in the history of football.
Two They scored eighty points and gave up thirty two
and then they went oh to six. Yeah, I would
(30:52):
say if you look at the analytics here in Vegas,
we believe the forty nine ers have a seventy chance
to repeat it's NFC champions And as to your point,
no team in the past five seasons that lost the
Super Bowl reached the Big Game the year after and
last time. Then you know, so right down down the line.
So the bottom line is, I still think the Niners
(31:13):
are the team to beat in the West. However, VJ.
I don't think they go over there eleven and a
half wins. I think they're gonna be eleven eleven to
ten win team.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (31:22):
Yeah, yeah, I think I think they're gonna struggle. That's
not fair. I think they're gonna have a bit of
a you know, a dog fight in their division and
and you know, in the rest of the NFL. So
I still think they make the playoffs. I still think
they're gonna be fine. But that doesn't mean they're gonna
be back in the super Bowl. So uh, there's some
more in than mill.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
He is Bernie Frado of the Bernie Fratto Show.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Man He of.
Speaker 3 (31:46):

the way on social media at Bernie Fratto as well.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Tell you what.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
We'll come back react some of the stuff that Bernie said,
but first let's get it over the news desk, Nick Cope,
what is trending?
Speaker 1 (32:31):
My man? The model? All right?
Speaker 6 (32:32):
The forty nine ers have plays to receiver Ricky Pearsall
on the reserve non football injury list. Not a surprise
as he recovers from the gunshot wound he sustained in
an attempted robbery on Saturday. The Athletic reported today that
Piersoll did not need surgery while he was in the
hospital and he was awake in lucid the entire time.
It's all positive signs there for Pearso Vikings receiver Jordan Addison,
(32:57):
back at practice today is he works back from an
ankle injury. Chiefs placed running back Clyde Edwards Hilaire on
the reserve non football ill this list, so he will
miss the first four games of the season, just like
Pearsal Bengals receiver Jamar Chase did not practice today as
he continues to seek a long term deal. Day baseball
Brewers on top of the Cardinals nine to three in
(33:18):
the seventh inning, Orioles lead the White Sox three to
two on the fourth inning. There no score yet between
the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers in Arizona. Red's hav an
early two to nothing lead on the Astros a second inning.
In Cincinnati at the US Open, American Jess Pagoula is
into the quarterfinals and twenty twenty one men's champion Danil
Medvedev also cruising into the final eight. And finally, Joey
(33:42):
Chestnut said a new world record consuming eighty three hot
dogs in ten minutes as he defeated Takuru Kobayashi in
their Netflix competition. First to the first time that those
two are squaring off in fifteen on Netflix.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Yep, are you O, kiddy? Yeah? They announced this couple
months ago.
Speaker 6 (34:02):
Remember, Chestnut kind of got blocked out of doing the
Nathan's Hot Dog.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Eating Contest on the fourth of July, right exactly, so
a few days.
Speaker 6 (34:12):
I don't know if this was always planned, but it
was basically like Netflix swooped in and created this competition.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
So yeah, it's one of the most disgusting things I've
ever seen in my life. Nick, I'm out on food
eating competitions, bro, I'm out.
Speaker 6 (34:24):
Yeah, it was pretty I feel like the Netflix cameras
were better than the ones ESPN.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Uses and you could really just see.
Speaker 6 (34:31):
The the food particles just all down there.
Speaker 7 (34:34):
Shirt.
Speaker 8 (34:35):
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Yeah, I'm good. I'm good.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Back to you guys, Yeah, I'm good. Thank you very much,
Nick Cope. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Doug Gottlieb
is out. Aaron Torres and VJ Husky are in. We'll
come back what we do. Nick will rejoin us because
it's time for the press. That's next Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (34:52):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
Welcome back everybody, the This is the Doug gott Leap Show.
Doug is out this afternoon air tours. VJ Husky filling
in for Doug. By the way, if you missed any
of the show, make sure to download the podcast that
will be available shortly after the show.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Doug is out.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
But just because Doug's out doesn't mean we're not gonna
stick with this schedule every single day.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
Around this time, What time? What does Doug do around
this time? Sam the press? Time for the press. Let's
toss over the news desk, Nick Cope, what do you
got for us? My man?
Speaker 6 (35:33):
All right, guys, let's get some NFL topics here. You
guys are talking about Trent Williams with Bernie Fratto a
little while ago. He's not the only guy still holding
out of note. Bengals receiver Jamar Chase did not practice today.
He's still looking for that new contract and coach Zach
Taylor said they're considering him day today at this point,
trying to get a deal done before the first game
(35:55):
of the season.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Uh wow. Hm.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
The Jamar Chase one is big for me because once again,
guys holding out always just worries me, man, even if
they show up, because when they get a deal, he
hasn't been practiced, and he hasn't been with the team,
he hasn't been working out, he hasn't been and they're
coming off of an injury riddled year with their quarterback
at Joe Burrow. You would think guys need to get
in there and get focused and try to compete with
Baltimore in that AFC North.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
That's what worries me as well. I filled in with
Kerry Roads last week and he talked about this. He said,
when you miss time in training camp, your body has
to get used to it. Obviously, back in his day
there is more hitting, But he said, I always worry
about those guys. And by the way, VJ, we're gonna
be in for Cavino and Rich we're gonna talk. We're
gonna go division by division. But the Bengals are one
I really loved, probably six eight weeks ago, but now
(36:41):
no Jamar Chase. I'm a little bit hesitant. So yeah,
this is not good news for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 6 (36:48):
Obviously, I were getting ready for Jim Harbaugh's debut as
Chargers said coach, and in an interview with ESPN, he
shot down the narrative that he is hard to get
along with, saying, quote, nobody's ever doubted where my heart
is every single time, what's in the best interest of
the team that I'm on close quote. So Harbaugh knows
(37:09):
that that sentiment is out there and obviously does not agree.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
With it, right, not at all. I don't agree with either.
That's Jimmy Burger's right there, man, that's my guy. Everybody
isn't easy to get along with.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Letty Burger. Jimmy Burger's maybe you got because of the
jeez Berg. Yeah, I call Jimmy Burgers baby.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
But also to pe, we're we're always afraid of the little, weird,
quirky guy.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
Right that he's not the guy drinks milk with his steak.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
He still tucks his his polo into his kakis, is
out there training camp with his players, on pulling another
human being on his sled. He slept on the floor
in a sleeping bag over kicker, over recruit that he's
trying to get. We're always so afraid of these guys.
But what has he ever done wrong? But been on,
has been a good coach, coached up guys, got guys paid,
and won a national championship, and now he's going to
try to turn around the Chargers. I'm with him on this,
(37:53):
and I'm glad that he I'm glad that he openly
said it.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
Ar.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I also just think to win at the highest level,
you have to be a little bit difficult, right, I
mean true, if you're not going to elevate everyone around you,
got you know, elevate everyone around you. You got to
push them to places that they didn't think they could
get to without you. So I have no problem if
he is difficult because the results, uh speak for themselves
pretty much not pretty much. Everywhere he has gone, he
(38:16):
has won at a very high level, and so I
have no problem with it even if it is true,
and it too it up where real quick? Jordan on
the last dance dock right right, get right right? Jordan
would punched the teammate.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
Difficult to get with, but Jordan said, I wanted them
to win as much as bad as I wanted me
to win. I wanted them to feel that. That's why
I did that and pushed them all right.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
We touched on this just moments ago.
Speaker 6 (38:36):
But the Niners placing rookie receiver Ricky Piersoll on the
reserve non football injury list, so he's out at least
the first four games of the season. Just really wild
story over the weekend. Guys with an attempted robbery, shot
through the chest, exiting out the back, but didn't need surgery,
and he's out of the hospital on Sunday. So best
case scenario of what was a very scary situation.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
Yeah, best case in But it also shows too he's
a soldier. It also shows to whoever the scumbag was
just trying to get his rolex for him. I got
a lot of choice words for you that I'm not
allowed to stay on air. S Double would be calling
me and telling me I'm no longer part of family here.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
But good for him.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
But it shows what with being a good person, good karmer,
like through the chest, right through and I'm right back
out the hospital, baby, So you tried to take me
out and I'm still standing right here.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Come anyway, go ahead, Aeron, Not much sad, just glad.
He's okay.
Speaker 10 (39:28):
Man.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
Scary you know you see a headline like that, you
don't have details right away, scary stuff.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Glad he's okay. Yep.
Speaker 6 (39:34):
Cowboys have named Cooper Rush their backup quarterback, so that
means Trey Lance is QB three, Dallas paying a fourth
round pick for him a year ago, but Lance probably
not going to be active too much this year.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
Lance's number three? Really after five interceptions in a meaningless
preseason game. Is Brady just told us, Oh wow, what
a shock Trey Lance has done. Guys, I was holding
out hope on him. But you know, if you can't
fix him by now, Mike McCarthy can't do anything with
him on the side. It is what it is. Dallas
just needs to worry about getting back in sixty million
to move it on.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Yeah, people are going to criticize how you gave a
fourth round pick. A lot of fourth round picks don't
make it. It was worth the shot. He's a former top
three pick.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
But he's done. Yeah, he's done. But he's done. All right,
squeeze one more in here.
Speaker 6 (40:16):
I know we're talking about captains in the NFL with
Russell Wilson, but Bear's rookie Caleb Williams. He's one of
their eight captains this year.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
No bueno at all.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
You do not make a rookie quarterback a captain on
your team, especially with the picking up the trash stuff
that they went through and cleaning up the locker room
where some people question, are you doing it? Because this
is really you? Are you doing it because the cameras
are on, You're trying to look like a certain guy.
There was somebody that told him that he looked like
Russell Wilson doing that type of stuff.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
But yeah, that was the Gottlieb Show.
