The way tire buying should be. I'm gonna read you

(00:44):
a quote and then we'll talk about it. Lamar Jackson
told GQ when he was asked about his haters. I
always say this, people hated Jesus. Not to compare myself
to Jesus. But it's like, if he got hated and
he was still a good person and still did did
follow through with its purpose, why can't I So he

(01:07):
didn't compare himself to Jesus, but he kind of did.
But the bigger thing is this, we're going to have
to reassess a word which is often misused. There's lots
of words that are misused. Now there's expressions and phrases
that are misset. I'm not going to sit here like
I'm an English professor because I'm terrible at spelling. But

(01:29):
i do know that it's a tough row to hoe.
You cannot hoe a road, you hoe a row. You
couldn't care less, you couldn't care less. Remember this is
important because if you could care less, that means you
care and the expression I couldn't care less means I
don't care at all. That's why I couldn't care less.

(01:54):
We've actually changed, or maybe it's gen Z has changed
the meeting of the word literal where they've added an
additional meaning where it's actually more figurative than literal. Literal
is literal, Figurative is figurative. But for whatever reason, we've
changed that because we want to. But it's literally when

(02:18):
it's not literally is figuratively and figuratively is listed in
the Dictionary as the definition of figuratively is one of
the definitions of literally. Because pop culture is misused word enough,
we've also misused this whole hater thing. What is a hater.
Now I'm guessing that in Lamar Jackson's mind, it's guys

(02:41):
that tell him he sucks. But there's not really people
that say Lamar Jackson sucks, or there's not any that
are in existence anymore. Let's say he sucks. They may
not think he's a superl champion level quarterback, maybe not
a Hall of Famer, or he's a regular season quarterback.
But that's analysis more than hatred. Hatred would be one

(03:03):
off fan saying something stupid that doesn't make any sense.
But for whatever reason, we've allowed the word hater to
become synonymous with any type of negative analysis. So either
we have to redefine what a hater is or we

(03:24):
have to stop using the word hater, because to say,
Lamar Jackson, and as great as he is in the
regular season, he still has not shown the ability to
pick apart defenses in the postseason, where you have to
throw more, it's colder, it's harder to run. We don't
want you to run, we don't want you to get hurt.
You want a more developed offense, whatever, all these things like,

(03:45):
there is a balance there, and I would say ninety
five percent of the people who have said anything negative
about Lamar throughout his career, but especially now in the NFL.
It's more analysis than it is hatred. Yet we use
anything that's not one hundred percent positive be seen as
hatred and that ain't right. Jay s du Can you

(04:07):
think of a different way to say it? Am I
the one supposed to adjust? Do we just how we
how we usere haters? What should we do here?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
I think, Yeah, it's all in the the eye of
the beholder. You know, how you take criticism, how you
take comments. But I don't know. Yeah, detractors, distractors what's
the word detractor? Maybe that's distractors.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
But it's not even a detractor if you're just going like, hey,
you know, he still doesn't he still doesn't see it
well enough and pick a part well enough in doubs
like a doubter is fine.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, it's not even how Lamar takes it as much
as it is how Lamar defenders take it. Like you
never see the reaction like you do when you when
you hear something negative about Lamar Jackson. There's all these
people on social media that just come to his defense
and call you a hater. I don't know why. It's

(05:00):
him specifically because things said about him have been said
about other quarterbacks, but for whatever reason, it land's different
for him or with him. I don't know why that's so,
but you hear this all the time that he is.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Because of the one off story of a wide receiver
coach and I know who the coach was asked him
if he was going to run at the combine. That's why.
And people have taken that to take steps to thinking
that I guess there's some racial undertones to it or whatever,
and the whole world is racist and had to get

(05:34):
Lamar Jackson, and so when there's any part of analysis
which is negative about him, you're a racist. Like Russell
Wilson's been picked apart ten ways with sideways. It's not
because of his race. It's because he used to be
on path to being a Hall of Famer and then
he gets super weird and now he's been bad. But whatever.

(05:58):
I just the word hater is just such a weird thing.
It's so off putting because you're like, Okay, well I'm
not a hater. I'm just trying to give some real
football analysis, and yet any time you do, you're called
a hater, a hater I think is the football or
the sports term for it's used as flippantly as racist

(06:20):
is used, And the truth is there's very few haters
and there's very few racists. I think. I don't know, byer,
can you think of a better way, Like why do
we use this the hater thing that it's become so
synonymous with any sort of what could be constructive criticism
or negative analysis.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
I don't know. I don't know if it's just the
easy way out or people just feel that their accomplishments
aren't being viewed and it's only a negative storyline. Maybe
that's a portion of it. It also just seems to
be a lot easier just to say that they're haters.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
It's a good call. They're haters. Their haters. The other
part that's interesting about Lamar is he's remarkable. He's the
best running quarterback ever. He's been putting good systems run
but he's so elusive. He's amazing, and he does throw
a great ball downfield and he's a better version of

(07:18):
what he used to be. Clearly a much better pro
quarterback than Ay would have thought. Two MVPs. But I
don't know anybody who thinks he's one of the elite
actual quarterbacks in the NFL. I guess Tom Brady really
likes Simon, likes how he does what he does, but like,
if you have to go win a game and you
got eighty yards to go, are you taking him? Or
Josh Allen, are you taking him? Or Pat Mahomes are
you taking him? Or kind of go through some of

(07:40):
the quarterbacks and his skill set, you would think normally
you would take him because he can run and he
can throw it. But for whatever reason, he hasn't worked
out of such in the playoffs, and I think that
requires some amount of analysis, and not all analysis is
going to be, Hey, you're awesome, it's not you. Sometimes
it is you, sometimes it is you. Are we bothered

(08:04):
by the Jesus thing? He does? Specifically said not to
compare myself to Jesus, but that was that almost feels
like a hey, no disrespect, something disrespectful is going to
come out him.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
I mean, he said he used the Jesus thing, and
I'm not offended by that, but but I think that
maybe where he goes a little too far is what
he says next, and that he's not going to let
this distract him from his purpose or whatever. So to
compare Lamar Jackson, quarterback of the Raven's purpose of winning
a Super Bowl to what Jesus's purpose was, I think

(08:38):
that's where the comparison gets a little murky.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
No, uh yeah, did anybody ever say that Lamar wasn't
a good person. That one's weird.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
That's the thing. The hate that he gets has nothing
to do with him as a person or what he
does for the community. It's all football related, right.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yes, correct, comblity because he hasn't really given us anything
negative or we don't really follow him outside of it.
I don't I get it, but I don't get it.
I think it's a I know you love to pick
on gen zers. He's a gen zer, right he is. Remember,

(09:17):
like before he signed his new contract, if you don't
love Lamar to you know, five hundred and fifty million
dollars a year, you don't love Lamar, Like, well, that's
not actually how it works, dude. But he did get
his money. And it's the it's the mentality of if
you're not completely all in on everything I doing being great,
you're a hater. I just it just wears all of

(09:38):
us out. It's like, Okay, that's a guy who doesn't
actually want to get better. Rapid Radios official communication device

the whole thing is super super interesting, super interesting with
Lamar Jackson, super interesting with the use of Jesus, Like
I'm not comparing myself to Jesus, but there is sort
of a Jesus element to it, right, And man, there's
the expectations of how they're going to do. And with

(10:25):
all of this with the NFL, we have the exact
opposite opinion of Lamar as we do of Pat Mahomes,
which is Pat Mahomes, it's going to screw around. And
I think I think Buyer said this yesterday and it
was right, which is like Pat Mahomes didn't even have
a good year last year, like by his standards, but
when it was called upon, he delivered. Laura had a
great year last year, and then when called upon, they

(10:47):
couldn't deliver. That's not hatred, that's just watching football and
giving thoughts on it.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
This is the best of the Done dot lead show

Um.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Look, there's some stuff going on. Patrick certain signs a
huge contract. I guess there's a little baseball to talk about.
But Wednesdays are the middle of the week. It's a
big week because Thursday football, Friday football, Saturday, lots of football,
Sunday ton of football. Heck, we have so many. Yes,

(11:47):
football is unequivocally back. I mean Baltimore, Kansas City, Tomornight
is incredible. But middle of the week, middle of the show,
middle of the middle of the day. Let's get to
the midway. He's not getting the middle in here.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
It's time for.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
The midway. Okay, So here's what we thought we'd do.
Let's do just the most intriguing storylines from NFL teams
heading into the season. You guys, okay with that.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
I want one intriguing story, each intriguing story for each
of us.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Okay, well is your idea, so you go.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Aaron Rodgers. For those that didn't listen to the Dan
Patrick Show on Monday morning, Dan Byer and I gave
a book review to be honest, to be factual. It's
called the Dan and J Stu Audio Book Review.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
The literation was impressive.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
We'll be doing like Tolstoy War and P's probably next,
so look for that. I'm going to say, Aaron Rodgers,
I'm most intrigued to follow his story after reading the book.
I'm a fan of the guy. I admit on this
air all the time. I think he's very interesting. I

(13:10):
think we lose sight of how interesting he is because
he says stuff that kisses people off. So this country
typically just dismisses you if you say something against the grain.
But he's a star in the biggest sport in the
country who says interesting things. All you have to do

(13:32):
is watch The Quarterback on Netflix with Mahomes and Cousins
and a Mariota. These guys are robots that have almost
no depth to them at all. They're freak athletes that
are good at their jobs, but they're not interesting. Aaron
Rodgers is and we should appreciate that. And I'm rooting

(13:54):
for him this season. I want the Jets to go far.
If he were to win Super Bowl, it might be
one of the greatest What do you call it that?
Resurrection stories comeback stories, And I'm not just talking about
the injury. People have come back from injuries before, but
coming back from the persecution he received in the wake of.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
All dude, hold on, stop with the persecution. Wasn't persecuted.
It's really strong, really strong. You can cheer for Aaron
Rodgers because he says what he wants and he's a
unique thinker. Please don't do that. He was persecuted.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Come on, buck, look up the definition of persecution. It
was a public stoning about the public.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
The act of mistreating a person because of their race, sexeticity,
sexual orientation status. Yeah, the persecution is confiscation of property,
incitement of hatred, arrests, imprisonment, beating, torture, murder, executions. The
guy lied about being vaccinated and then tried to outsmart everybody.

(15:09):
Be this. That's not being persecuted. He wasn't suspended for
a game, was he.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
I'm not sure if he received it. No, No, I
know he got COVID a couple.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Of weeks off. And here's another thing. Okay, we got
to stop with the all vacs, like the RFK all
vaccinations are bad. He's a quack. Okay, he just is.
We can argue whether or not the COVID vaccines should
have been mandated or what levels it should have been,
and remembering which presidency actually created and fast fast forwarded

(15:43):
the vaccine, that's a fair discussion to have. But like, dude,
really all vaccines. Yeah, polio that really hasn't worked. Yes,
it actually has smallpox, et cetera. Like we go to
crazy town over stuff. He was not persecuted. Aaron Rodgers
is super interesting. The jets are super interesting. I think

(16:07):
anybody could appen on the top. Let's not do the
persecuted thing. So I was, I was Sam.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Let's substitute the word persecution with the public stoning that
Aaron Rodgers received in the wake of the immunization point.
I'll clean it up and edit.

Speaker 5 (16:24):
Okay Rodgers prefers his stoning to be in private with ayahuasca. Yeah, so,
I think this is pretty obvious here. I don't even
know where that joke quent.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
Dan, your thoughts a good joke to get us back
on tracks, Sam, you know, lighten it up a little bit.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Where was the snare drum? But I don't know.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
It was a good joke, so we didn't need it. Yeah, yeah,
thank you. This is gonna be fairly obvious statement here.
But I think two things, huge things that are critical
to the success to your success in the NFL are
really good personnel and culture. Good culture that involves, you know,
good coaching staff. I think that the Detroit Lions have

(17:06):
both of those things, and I'm curious about if they
can sustain they can sustain their success that they had
last year. It's a team that hadn't won a playoff
game in more than three decades. And listen, everybody's back,
including their outstanding offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. And Vegas is
high on the Lions. I'm seeing, you know, about ten

(17:28):
and a half wins for their over under various sports books.
So obviously there are expectations for the Lions and I
think that two things that happened in the offseason were
really good for the Lions in terms of like keeping
the focus off of them and keeping them as sort
of the underdog role. Jordan Love's massive contract extension, which

(17:49):
obviously put more expectations on him, more pressure on him
and the Packers to do really well in the NFC North,
and the Bears drafting Caleb Williams number one overall. I
think both of those things took the focus off the Lions,
which will help them to sustain their success this year.
And They're just going to be a hohm, keep on
keeping on, keep digging away. And I think the Lions

(18:12):
are just great for the NFL. I think their fans
are great. I think that them being good is a
really good thing for the NFL. So I'm curious if
the Lions, I mean, it didn't really lose anybody Dan
They pretty much brought everybody, including Ben Johnson, Ben Johnson,
Jimior Gibbs, Sam Woporta, A Monroe, Saint Brown Goff. I mean,
they got an outstanding offense, the defense is up and coming.

(18:32):
I want to see if the Lions and their culture
is healthy enough to sustain success for the next few years.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
I have so many things and I don't want to
go out. Maybe I took an end of it.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
I can go ahead, Yeah, I just I want to
jump in on the Lions portion of it because there
are a few teams in the NFL that we look
like Baseball. We were so we were so wrapped into
the Cubs and the Red Sox trying to end their droughts.
White what's up?

Speaker 1 (18:56):
White Sox? Two eight eight years? Drink?

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Sure? But I think that the the the curse of
the Bambino with the Red Sox really go with the Cubs.
All of that stuff played in and especially with the
heartbreak that the Red Sox had, and when that went away,
I think major League Baseball lost something. Same thing with
the Cubs and the Lions haven't won an NFL title

(19:20):
since nineteen fifty seven. Only the Arizona Cardinals the Cardinals franchise,
have a longer drought. There's also the fact that they,
like the Browns, have never been in a Super Bowl.
So with the Lions, what I find is interesting is
if they go to the Super Bowl and lose, do
we find it a success? Because the Red Sox in

(19:42):
where they were the Red Sox were you know, a
Bill Buckner grounder away. We feel from winning a World
Series where like the Cubs drought, it's like, Okay, it's
been this long for this and this long for that.
Can they even get to a World Series? Then they
go and do it. Like I wonder if the Lions,
if they just make to a Super Bowl, if that
will be good enough for the season. I think so,

(20:04):
Like I think that is the case with the Lions.
Are it would end one of those you know, of
the have nots of the NFL, That storyline would be
pretty much gone forever.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
I think you're completely correct in you don't that one
does not have to win the Super Bowl. Getting to
a super Bowl. It's like the Bengals a couple years ago,
right where you're like, the Bengals are and super they
were so bad for so now the Bengals weren't actually
as bad as the Lions. Bengals had that five consecutive
beers making the playoffs when Marvin was their coach. But
still it's more perception than reality. I'm having trouble pairing

(20:37):
it down, but I will just stay close to home
with my my favorite team, which has been the LA
Chargers just Harbaugh's one everywhere. How long does this process take?
And can the team get to the place that that
magical place where instead of expecting something to go wrong,
expecting something to go right and then something goes right.

(21:00):
Like Notre Dame has had this in football for a
long time, and I know they haven't been great for
a long time, but what do you call it? Lucky?
The Irish? Whatever Oklahoma football has had, they call it
sooner magic. Just good teams find a way to win games.
They just do, you know, they figure out whatever it
takes to win. And I got to tell you, like,
I'm intrigued by the Chargers because it's a weird Greg

(21:22):
Roman's offense is a weird fit for the quarterback and
there is a part of me that wonders. Boy Jim Harbough,
I know he's won everywhere, but Chargers are hard and
the league has changed some. I'm just fascinate to see
what the Chargers do this year. How long and how
long he teach them to win? He can teach them
to win.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
They invested in the head coaching position, and I know
that sounds disrespectful to Brandon Staley and you yeah, yeah,
and you know Mike McCoy prior to that, but yeah,
that is that is what they did.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
I think Keenan Allen, if you talk to him in
eight weeks halfway through the season or nine weeks, whatever
it is, if you go to Keenan Allen, say do
you regret because Keenan Allen pulled a leverage move where
he wouldn't wasn't willing to take less money and harball.
I was like, okay, we'll trade you. I wonder if
you go to Keenan Allen the midway through the season
and say do you regret what she did? I want

(22:19):
everyone to remember this moment because I want we'll see
where the Bears are and we'll see where the Chargers are.
I really wanted Keenan Allen to be a part of
something great here because he paid his dues on dog
crap tunes.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
The midway Dan, It's funny.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Over the last twenty four hours, there's starting to be
some rumblings everything was turning up gold for the forty
nine Ers, and now I've seen some stuff online where
maybe the front office in ownership isn't necessarily that excited
on how John Lynch and the forty nine ers have
dealt with some of these contract situations, and that leads

(23:01):
to the point of they gave in to go all
in on the season, and those things can be scary
when you come so close to a Super Bowl, because yeah,
you feel like you're so close. And look at the
Eagles last year. Look at what ended up happening with them.
Is they started out and the record looked right, but
many said they don't look right, and by the end

(23:23):
of the year they did not look right. And I
just the forty nine ers like, this is it. This
is the last chance, the last chance before Perty gets
his deal, there are going to be other decisions that
they're going to have to make in the future. I'm
looking at a screen on the NFL network right now
where you have their four talking heads all picking the
forty nine ers to win the NFC West. I think

(23:43):
a lot of people are picking them to win the NFC.
But if they don't, then it's over with. It's done with.
And that is to me, when you lose a Super
Bowl at overtime to bounce back and feel like we
just need to run it back. I don't know if
that always works, and maybe it will for the forty
nine ers, but we're already seeing rumblings. Once Trent Williams

(24:05):
returns to practice, Ayu gets his thirty million dollars deal,
everything seems to be back and great that maybe things
aren't great in San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
The offseason.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
I really yes, you know, is that a quiet off
season that we haven't talked about that has dominated the NFL.
We can't see Chiefs like none of us mentioned it.
And I know you wanted won from each and I
know it's boring, but we're literally watching like in mid career,
the greatest career that's ever happened in the NFL. Right,

(24:41):
the Chiefs aren't boring at all.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
I said recently, I am intrigued by those three people, Like,
how often in our lifetimes will we be able to
witness greatness? If they're in the playoffs and it's late
and they're not playing the Chargers, I'm rooting four of
the Chiefs. I don't think a lot of people do.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
That, did you, because Jason a month ago you said
that this this is the most intriguing storyline of the season.
So did you take this opportunity just to get your
Jets take out there, just to stir Doug's blood.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Up because he goes Aaron Rodgers spirit beat.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
There is because this was I used it on my
Sunday show and I gave Jason Stewart credit. I said,
Jay Stu said this to me a month ago, and
I poo pooed it on how intrigued he was and
how fascinated he was and seeing the Chiefs try to
go for a three peat. And then I even did
some more research on it, and it's even more intriguing

(25:33):
outside of the of just a three peat for the
Kansas City Chiefs at where they are. I told Carrie
Rhodes on my show on Sunday five Eastern, two Pacific
on Fox Sports.

Speaker 5 (25:44):
Radio, Yeah, that this is.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
The teeter totter to the Patriots. You win this season,
You've gone back to back to back, which no one
has ever done in the NFL in the Super Bowl era,
no one's won three straight Super Bowls. You have now
tipped it where you are with four super bowls with
Patrick Mahomes, you're four with Andy Reid, who would need

(26:09):
two a way to catch Belichick. Mahomes would be three
away from Brady with all of this now in reach,
So maybe Andy Reid's like, yeah, I'm gonna stay. If
they win the Super Bowl, they win four games of
the playoffs, Andy Reid will be a game back of
Bill Belichick for the most playoff wins. Ever, Andy Reid
also has an opportunity to pass Bill Belichick if Belichick
stays away for most coach the regular season wins in

(26:31):
an NFL career. Think he's about thirty behind right now.
So there's a lot at stake for the Chiefs this year.
And if you win, you may think, well, way, what
better way to go out with a three peat? But
I think that puts them so much closer to becoming
that dominant franchise that would be so difficult to walk
away from. You don't do it this year. I still
think that Patriots and Brady and Belichick still kind of
out of reach a little bit. But you complete that

(26:54):
three peat and continue that momentum. Wowzo if you're the.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Chief Wow is that wows? There's so many good storylines.
I mean, there's we didn't get to Bengals, right, and
I mean, you have everybody loves Joe Burrow, but you
know what happens with that team. We didn't get to Baltimore,
to Miami to Pittsburgh. Would they ever make a coaching

(27:19):
change or just the whole Russell Wilson thing, like will
that work out? So many good storylines this year in
the NFL. It's The Doug Gottlieb Show. And that's by
the way, the Midway.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
The Midway Sports Radio had the best sports talk lineup

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. This show is brought
to you by DraftKings. Stay tuned because you'll hear more
about DraftKings and all that is off for throughout the
show DraftKings. The crown is yours? Got a little candle
is kennelebox kennle box? Right?

Speaker 6 (27:58):
This is three doors down, three doors down? Yeah, but
it's kryptonite.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Just you know, I knew that, Yes, yes, I did
know that. That was a so I didn't know that. Yeah,
three doors down?

Speaker 6 (28:07):
Yeah, I actually forgot this myself.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
No, No, that's three doors down. Kryptonite is three doors down,
not this door. Three doors down? Do I count the
first door and I count? I don't know it's three
doors down.

Speaker 6 (28:16):
You're starting at door zero or door one?

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Yeah, who did I see? I saw? Lincoln Park has
a new lead singer. It's a chick and she's really good,
but it's just hard to tell how to go. Like, Okay,
these are the same Lincoln Park songs solmnly they debuted
last night, but with a different lead singer.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Is so odd they should call they should rename the
band of pinkin Park. It's a literation and there's a
female lead singer.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
Also other controversies coming with that.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
It's just it's just hard to replace anyone.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
What are the other controversy I'm not aware of. I'm
just tell me.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
She is a scientologist and uh vouched for Danny Masterson
during his uh rape trial. So there's some uh yes,
some some backlash from various people on social media.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
Some other stuff. Didn't know that Doug otlib show here
on Fox Sports Radio. We won't get into scientology today's show.
I don't I think that'd probably be it. Hey, you
asked for the backlash, No I did, I'm not yet. No,
I'm not bringing backlass Chedle. I'm just saying we're not
going to dive in, dive in deep. That'll be the podcast, right,
we'll do the podcast. We'll do that on the Saturday podcast.
We don't have a Saturday podcast as you do. This

(29:26):
is this is the new and improved Doug. Is what
I'm trying to point out, Dan Byer that normally I
would go into the I would go into scientology. That's
the deal with scientology. But instead I'll bringing Mark Dominick.
You spent over twenty years in the NFL front offices
and scouting, former gentle manager of the Tampay Buccaneers. Okay,
if we take off all of the armor and the

(29:49):
reputation and we just say, hey, Lamar Jackson, the player,
the guy who's done this his entire professional career is you.
You've evaluated, you've assigned he is a two time MVP.
What are your thoughts on Lamar the player last night?

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Well?

Speaker 7 (30:07):
I didn't expect him to run that much, right, I mean,
I think that's what everybody Vegas certainly didn't see that coming.
I didn't see that coming to lead the team in
rushing when you have Derrick Henry, I don't blame him.
I think he made good decision. Obviously, you don't get
over one hundred and twenty yards on the ground by
making four decisions win to tuck and run. I thought
Lamar played well. I thought he put them in a
position to win. He certainly went in different directions in

(30:31):
terms of the amount of throws, which is great to
Isaiah likely and what he was able to do as
well as putting the team on the back. There's no turnovers,
which is obviously a very big piece of the puzzle
for him too. I know he had to have the fumble,
but no interceptions, I should say so. I thought Lamar
Jackson played fine. I think they were good enough to
win the game. Unfortunately for Ravens fans they did not.
But he put him in position to win against you know,

(30:53):
a very very talented as we see Kansas City team
in Kansas City, which is going to be hard to
do for anybody.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
Okay, what about Kansas City? Where are they in comparison
to years past?

Speaker 7 (31:06):
So a couple of things I think for the Ravens,
I think they messed up.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
Though.

Speaker 7 (31:10):
I will take a step back on the Ravens and
just say you don't have Derrick Henry touch the ball,
you know, fourteen times thirteen on the ground and just
one catch up.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
But can we get into this discussion a little bit.
Here's the thing, Okay, and I've I've noticed this because
I'm not a Titans fan, but I have. Maybe I'm
glutton for punishment. I've watched a lot of Titans football,
and you're right, it's not He's not your tradition running back.
If you hand, you can't pro rate the thing like, well,
we'll give him fourteen carries to keep him fresh whatever,
Like he needs thirty carries, and what happens is usually

(31:41):
carry twenty one or twenty two. Now he breaks one right,
and it's a series of body blows, body blows, body blows,
body blows. But they have all these conflicting things, right,
Lamar is trying to prove to people he can throw.
You know, you have an offensive coordinator who's trying to prove, okay,
like I can put Lamar in position to where he
can throw accurately. Lamar is competitive and so at the

(32:01):
end of it, he's just like I want to win.
I don't trust it. He's not a great third four
to three sort of guy anyway. And he got Derrick Henry,
who he's kind of a one trick pony. In that trick,
you got to go to the body blow action like
it does feel like they got a lot of stuff
and it may not all put together.

Speaker 7 (32:17):
Yeah, I just think that they got caught up and
throwing the ball so much against Kansas City. Maybe they
looked at the secondary and said, well, you know, they're
not very good. They're going to struggle because La Jerry
Sneed's not there. So we believe that it's going to
be a battle for them. That's going to be They're
not gonna be able to handle us. But to go
into a game against Kansas City when you have and
I agree with you one hundred percent on Derek Henry,
you got he's got to. I think he's got to
have twenty two to twenty five touches and he'll break

(32:39):
one big one. He says, that's what he does. It's
what he's done his whole career. And I think it's
what he would have done last night, and they didn't
do that instead the way I looked at it, and again,
I think the Ravens are really good. I still think,
as I've said with you guys, I think they have
a chance to still you know, I was still Lombardi
or at least be at the game, and so I
think they're that talented of a team. But when you
look at the big picture, to your point, you throw

(33:00):
the ball forty one times, and Lamar Jackson's run sixteen,
which really you would probably say thirteen of those were
probably designed pass plays. You're gonna roll Lamar Jackson out
there fifty five times to throw the ball to beat
the Chiefs. I just don't think that's the right recipe.
I think you got to, you know, wear them out,
make those corners, tackles, get the ball outside of Derrick
Henry's tosses, and make those guys that they have to

(33:21):
work for it. I think that's how you have to
beat the Kansay the Chiefs. It didn't work out for
them last night, but that's where I think that they
messed up. And if you're going to trade or if
you're gonna add Derrick Henry, I think you need to
see twenty two touches next week.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Okay, what about the Chiefs? What's your assession?

Speaker 5 (33:38):
Yeah, the Chiefs.

Speaker 7 (33:39):
You know, an interesting thing for me was when it
was all said and done and I looked at the
line score or the box score, you know, I'm looking
at Isaiah Pacheco going see he only averaged three yards
to carry. It seems so much better than that. Like,
I felt like he was such a and maybe it
was the catches, but I thought Pacheco looked better even
though the average was three yards per attempt. They felt
like they were very good attempts are very good runs,

(34:01):
you know. And I think that that's that was interesting
because I really thought when I and I don't usually
I never look at the box scot in the game.
Usually I don't look at it till the next day
when I looked opens up, I thought we just gonna
be like four point two, four point four yards per carry.
It was only three zero three point zero, So that
was surprising. I mean, Rice looks fantastic, as I think
everybody kind of predicted or hoped to see that he

(34:21):
would do in Mahomes. Obviously, besides the interception, just keeps
making plays. The nice thing for them, I think that
really stood out was that they were able to spread
the ball around so much. You know it, two different
guys make catches, getting them involved. And there were a
lot of plays of those chunk plays, right, whether it
was in the run game with Worthy and his beautiful run.
But then you get rice as over twenty yard play

(34:43):
Kelsey did, Worthy did, just you know, Watson did, Procheco did.
So they all had twenty yard chunk plays and I
think that was the biggest difference of the two teams.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Stut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Trader. That's the
play of Mark Dominic, who joins us here on the
Doug Allan Show. Of course, Mark's former general manager Tampa
Bay Buccaneers. Right tonight, we have the Green Bay Packers
taking on the Philadelphi Eagles. Okay, so last year the
Eagles new OC New DC start out ten to zero,
but didn't feel right and doesn't finish well. Now we
go another new new DC, new OC and they add

(35:15):
in Saquon Barkley. Okay, same question, right, Like you have
a Derrick Henry Sake one. Barkley a little different. He
catched out of the backfield. What do you feel like
the Eagles offense should look like tonight?

Speaker 7 (35:26):
Yeah, I think I think that this one feels like
it's going to be a little more bound. I think
that Barkleville will get sixteen to eighteen touches because I
think he's different. They're gonna want to try to you know,
salace him through the season. I think Derrick Henry just
he just realized that it's a ramrod and he just
keeps throwing it against the wall. I think in this one,
I think with Saquon Barkley, I think it's gonna be
more than fifteen to seventeen eighteen touches or carries, and

(35:47):
then I think you're going to see them kind of
blended together with this passing game and be able to
you know, the nice thing is, we all know what
the Eagles is. They've got so many options and that's
going to be a really nice thing for I think
Jalen Hurts and I think it's going to be a
tricky thing not to get caught up in that because
I think they just got to play smart football. But
when you've got DeVante Smith, obviously, I don't know what
John Dobson's going to do, but a J. Brown, we

(36:07):
know that those guys are going to get their touches.
With Goddard, I just think that the Barkley's probably going
to get again sixteen to eighteen touches. I think that's
the right thing in terms of carries and another four
or five catches. That's what I would want out of him,
and that's what I would expect the Eagles to do.
I think it's going to be a great game because,
like I said last week and what I said this week,
is the game we have on Thursday night and the

(36:28):
game we have on Friday that could end up being
the AFC and NFCY championship teams. These teams are that good.
I'm very excited to see what the Packers roll out
on defense with Jeff Hapley at the new defensive quarteror.
I think that's going to be a tremendously different seal.
And I think that's going to be the one thing
I want to watch more out of Green Bay than
their offense is what if their defense look like under
a new coordinators Halfley.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
What's his reputation, Well.

Speaker 7 (36:50):
I had him in Tampa. He was our DV coach
back in the day before he went off and obviously
came the head coach of Boston College. He is known
for energy, he is known to he's a very intelligent coach.
You know, players are going to feel like they're getting better.
And to Jeff Hapley, Uh, he's got uh this, Uh,
he's got a really good charisma and he knows how
to interject to different players at different levels, and I

(37:13):
think that's really a key part of being a great
head coach or being a good positional coach. It's how
do you react to the different people within the building
because they're coming from different areas of life. Jeff is
really good at working through that and kind of figuring
out how to communicate with each level to make sure
that they're getting the best they can. And so that's
going to be interesting to see how do all these
high picks, these draft picks, these high picks on defense,

(37:34):
how do they perform tonight when they have a chance
to be on stage in this new system, which I
think is going to be a much more aggressive system.
It's going to have some you know, you're gonna they're
gonna be much more aggressive. They're going to be, you know,
coming downhill a lot more. So there's going to be opportunities.
It's just that Jalen Hurts has to you know, be
able to cash in on them. But Zager McKenney, I think,
is big gire at Vanderstein healthy, He's going to be

(37:55):
a big piece. But again, I want to see uh
this defense because I think it's going to be a
much better defensil we saw last year.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
Jamar Chase told reporters today that he believes he's close
to reaching a long term agreement with the Bengals, but
he's also willing to play on his current contract if
one's not reached. He's been limited in practice, he's been
a hold in during training camp. Do you believe they
get this done before the first step?

Speaker 7 (38:20):
Oh, Doug, it's a great question. My gut is that
he's questionable, that he doesn't they're going to want to
see no one. I'm going to guess the Brown family
isn't going to give him the deal until he's you know,
he shoots up and plays in the game. Maybe, is
what is the right answer. I mean, we're seeing Pat
Fariremouth get a deal today with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Spencer
Brown got a deal today with the Buffalo Bills. So

(38:42):
we're seeing clubs kind of good deals done at the
club level, like Firemouth deals four years forty eight million
less twelve twelve and change a year. That's not blowing
out the market at all. And I think that's where
you look at it and say, all right, So then
Firemouth wanted to get a deal with the club, and
that's usually where the clubs take advantage these guys right
before the regular season starts. Can I get a player
to take a deal that's much more club friendly? I

(39:03):
think those two guys got one of those. I don't
think Jamar Chase is going to get that lucky, so
I think they're going to make him play another week.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
What do you think is that is the team that's
most interesting to you? Like, there's a lot of we
went through, there's so many different storylines. I have one
in mind. What's yours? That the team that's most interesting you?

Speaker 7 (39:22):
I think the most interesting team to watch this year
is going to be the Arizona Cardinals and find out
exactly what do they look like. There's been a lot
of good mojo coming out with Kyler Murray and what
he may be doing or be able to put on tape,
and then with the addition of a Marvin Harrison with
I think with the explosion of Trey McBride last year,
I think the most interesting team will be what Arizona

(39:42):
does in twenty twenty four?

Speaker 1 (39:44):
Can I give you mine?

Speaker 7 (39:46):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (39:47):
I think the Steelers are a mess on offense. I
think they took up they took a bunch of parts
that weren't great, and then they reconfigured the me like
who I might that might be worse. You know, Like
there are people that think Justin Fields is going to
be the answer, and I don't think he is. I mean,
thirty one other teams don't think so. And then Russell

(40:10):
Wilson like he's got the cap, he's never healthy. I
don't think he's very good. He wants to hold the ball,
they want to get rid of it quickly. I just
I don't love it in any way.

Speaker 7 (40:21):
You know, I understand it's amazing what Mike Tommins was
able to do last year with Kenny Pickett. I understand.
I hear what you're saying. You know, it's it's a
hard team to bet against just because of their consistency.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
Sure, and I think their defense.

Speaker 7 (40:34):
Is good banked up too. You know, there's that whole
division might be you know, a lot more depending on
the quarterback play, and to be able to keep the
quarterbacks healthy will be everything. But I agree with you
that if, if, if it's Justin Fields becomes the quarterback
for the Pittsburgh Steelers, those Steelers will be in the
draft next year drafting the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Mark, you're the best. I would like you to assume
the position on the couch tonight, as most of America
will as well, and then report back after a Saturday,
and a Sunday and a Monday on the couch as well.

Speaker 7 (41:08):
Okay, it's great, right, we got a lot of good
football in front of us. We're happy today back in
the twenty twenty four seasons, so enjoy it too, Doug.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Thanks
