The Crown is yours. I do think some things that

(00:41):
we see from Vans are totally transparent. We act like
Texas beat last year's Michigan squad. Like most of our
team graduated quarterback, graduated, coach left, they're on probation. Texas
is good. Texas didn't win in the National semifinals last year.
Texas wins great, But like you act like you beat
last year's Michigan team and you didn't. I don't really

(01:03):
understand that one. Look, we don't. Today's not really a
time to talk college football. Week three college football or
week two whatever plus week zero. But I was thinking
about this watching Northern Illinois beat Notre Dame. The last
second kick was Imagine if Notre Dame had lost in

(01:25):
a close game the last second kick to A and
M and beaten the tar out of NIU, how would
you have felt then?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Which would have been really interesting?

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:36):
You were an underdog at A and M, and you
were a big favorite against that IU. But the craziness
of college football was on full display. Iowa States comeback
win over Iowa, Sorry Iowa, Sam, who was there vacationing
or visiting. We saw a couple other ones that were interesting.

(01:58):
I don't know why NC State was ranked. It was like,
let's just rank an ACC team randomly, and Tennessee went
down there and beat the crap out of him, and
then Nebraska. I mean, twenty eight to ten does not
do it justice. That game was over at the half,
it was twenty eight nothing and it was one of
those Colorado's really not good. I think Nebraska is pretty good.
And I'll say this about Dylan Royola, who's the freshman

(02:20):
quarterback who's basically doing at Patrick Mahomes in look and
actions whatever. There's a lot worse guys in the world
that you can emulate than arguably the best quarterback we've
ever seen play the sport. Don't bother me. Let's get
to love and hate, shall we?

Speaker 4 (02:37):
What did you love?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
God?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
I love you? And what did you hate?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
These? Claire Hays.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Okay, we go around the room every day and we
try and find out what people love, what people hated
for the weekend. Let's start with you there, Dan Byer,
so you're more of a longer than Jason Sewartz.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
The hate it, well, I appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
I actually was gonna just ask for a little time
because there's a piece of audio that I was just
trying to search for.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
And I fine, let's go to Let's go to Chris
Prefet Chris.

Speaker 7 (03:13):
Oh, I actually have a pretty good one here, and
I think I've got my sound keyed up for this.
So you touched on it a little bit before. But
let me just I want to like rine back back.
I grew up in Toledo, Ohio, which besides Ohio State
and Michigan football, meant Toledo Rockets football, which went the
MAC the Mid American Conference. And every year I would
always dread when the Toledo had to play the Northern

(03:34):
Illinois Huskies. That is a tough football team. They've been
tough for a really long time, and it always felt like,
oh man, they're going to ruin someone's season before too long. Well,
and I you went and did exactly that on Saturday,
going out and taking on Notre Dame, going into South Bend,
when Notre Dame looked like they had probably the clearest
path after beating Texas A and M to getting to

(03:58):
the playoffs, and you trip up over the MAC. And
I use first win ever over a top ten ranks team,
your top five for Notre Dame's case and their current coach,
Thomas Hammock. He was, He's an alum of the football program.
He was the running backs coach of the Baltimore Ravens
before being hired about four years ago.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Here he was.

Speaker 7 (04:21):
After the game being asked by NBC what this moment
felt like?

Speaker 5 (04:26):
It's deep for you.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Why I'm so proud about kids, the coaches because everybody.
They believe, they believe we came here.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I got it going.

Speaker 8 (04:42):
You told your guys this week that you didn't need
anyone to be a superhero or superhuman. They just needed
to be their best. What kind of performances did you
see out there?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
They listen to what I said? I told them all
week me. Look, we just got to be our best,
and I was their best today and we were hapy
to get it done.

Speaker 8 (05:07):
Where's this emotion coming from for you?

Speaker 3 (05:10):
You know, all these guys that Bend went off program
Ben through the ups and down and to continue to fight.
You know, I'm just like, like they my kids. I'm
happy for their adversity to push through well, you know,
no matter the situation.

Speaker 7 (05:29):
Yeah, overwhelming with it. The locker room celebration is something
I love. What I saw to Thomas Hammock and the
Northern Illinois Huskies. Maction really on display on Saturday in
South Bends.

Speaker 6 (05:41):
Love the story, Dan Byer, all right, Doug, I got
my audio set up and while it would be easy
to say Seahawks win first win of the Mike McDonald era,
would be the big thing that I loved or Marshawn
Lynch going up to the head coach during the game
and talking to him. It was actually something that I

(06:02):
missed because I was doing my show with Kerry Rhoades
yesterday during the broadcast. This was Adam Marceletta on CBS
as bow Nicks was dropping back to pass for the
Denver Broncos in the second half of that game.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
I have thirty five left, they're down thirteen Knicks.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Oh no, has lt buyy to intercepted?

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Picked off by Lollan.

Speaker 9 (06:26):
Second interception throwed by the rookie Knicks. He's just trying
to do too much and hit the crossing route. But
you're gonna see when he decided to.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
Let this ball go. There's three Seattle defenders.

Speaker 9 (06:41):
You have Woland chasing him, you had the linebacker underneath, and.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
You get the point. But the oh no during the call.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
I didn't get a chance to hear a lot of
Tom Brady yesterday, But if on any throw he would
have said oh no by Deshaun Watson or Dak Prescott
that was gonna end up end up in the hands
of the defenders. I think we would be giving rave
reviews to Tom Brady for that. Because Adam march Alotta
saw it as it was happening. Uh, just a great
moment yesterday.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
For this is one of my favorites.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
First of all, all time great dude, like literally all
time great dude. And I think a brilliant broadcasters sometime.
You know, he just doesn't have as big a name,
but as a safety, he'd be able to see everything
that's coming. Is phenomenal.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Yeah, you have to feel about boats.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
By the way, I was never big on boat nicks.
I don't really get it.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Game one.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Game one, I think it'll be fine, but as far
as like an elite quarterback, I never saw.

Speaker 6 (07:36):
It, by the way, I just want to play it
one more time. Now that we know what I'm talking about.
Listen to like how soon he says, Oh, no.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
Thirty five left there down thirteen knicks.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Oh no, has.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
Or Spirodida says has all they knew that. Yeah, this
was not good. And he's right, there were three seahawks
in the area. But uh yeah, love that.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Okay, let me go to Jason Stewart what he got.

Speaker 10 (08:06):
I'm not a religious guy. I'm not even very spiritual,
but I do believe in karma. I believe that what
you put out into the world, you're gonna get back
positive and negative. So every time Deshaun Watson gets a
beat down, I love it. Like I was so joyful
watching the Cowboys utterly destroy him yesterday, making him feel

(08:30):
pain all day. I want to point out two tweets.
I think two people won Twitter yesterday, both having to
do with Deshaun Watson. At Barry on here very funny
Twitter follow, he says, Deshaun Watson might be a terrible person,
but he's also a terrible quarterback and that's what really matters.

(08:52):
That was only outdone by this tweet. Deshaun Watson is
getting abused. If he asked the cow Was to stop,
they should force him against his will to be assaulted.
Then when he leaves the field in tears, they should
send him a text message reading, sorry about you feeling uncomfortable.

Speaker 5 (09:14):
It's good stuff.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
That's really good stuff. That's really good stuff. You did
what I love for the weekend.

Speaker 5 (09:18):
Who sent that?

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Who said that on tweet?

Speaker 3 (09:20):
No?

Speaker 5 (09:20):
That was me. That was Jason Stewart at Jason Stewart on.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
X, at Jason Stewart on X anymore. Before I get
to go, go ahead, Doug, Okay, do you guys you
didn't realize what I was gonna love, right, I mean,
I thought Sam Darno was nineteen of twenty four. He
did have a pick nineteen of twenty four. Now, part

(09:48):
of it is I think the Giants might be the
worst team in football, but yeah, he was amazing. I
was so happy for the guy. I mean, he's just
got such good weapons there. He doesn't have to over
do it, you know. I mean you looking and with
Aaron Jones going for ninety four yards, but also Aaron
Jones being an out of backfield threat, Justin Jefferson, Jordan

(10:11):
Addison and Oliver and Chandler like they got a squad
of guys from a throw to I just you know again,
I've been a fan of Sam Donald hoped he would
live up to his lofty billing. I don't think he
ever will, but I was really happy that he had
a great day against a really bad team to get
a start season started. All right, let's get to what
we hated from the weekend. So much to dig into.

(10:35):
Jason Stewart, you're really good at this what you.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
Got, Doug.

Speaker 10 (10:39):
Everyone knows who's been listening to the show and the
podcast that I can't stand Tony Romo as a broadcaster.
I had a unique view last yesterday, so there was
a double box on my YouTube TV, one being the
local Charger game with Tony Romo and Jim Nantz, the
other one being Tom Brady's debut as a broadcaster, and

(11:00):
the other. Now YouTube tv allows you to obviously highlight
one of them that you could listen to, so I
mostly listened to the Brady debut, but every time I
tuned into the Chargers game, Tony Romo only affirmed my
opinion of him that he's awful on the air and
he's like nails screeching a chalkboard. I wanted to play
this for our listeners because it's very apropos This is

(11:23):
Dreue Bledsoe and maybe Bayer knows the answer to this.
I think Bledsoe was interviewed for a feature on Tony.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Romo and it was on Brady.

Speaker 10 (11:31):
I thought within that feature he said this during an
interview in Dallas.

Speaker 11 (11:35):
Parcels made the decision to yank me at halftime of
a game and throw Romo in there. Really didn't agree
with that one. If you're watching this, Romo, you know
this is true. The minute that he became the starter.
He became pretty big in his own mind, and he
was no longer the curious and inquisitive guy, where that
was the difference between him and Tommy. Tommy became the starter.
He still was asking all the questions, where all of

(11:57):
a sudden, Romo was the guy that had all the answers.

Speaker 10 (12:00):
I think that's apropos for this broadcasting thing too. Rama
has been bad for years and he's obviously not taken
any teaching or guidance because he's still bad. I think
Brady is going to listen. I think he's going to learn. Uh,
Tom Brady had a rough day yesterday, But I'm not
going to make any conclusions yet. Did you guys have

(12:20):
any takeaway from the Brady experience.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
I just thought he sounded like a guyho hadn't done
a game and somebody who's been overly coached, and he
didn't know when to end his sentences, and that would
happen to me very early on in my career. And also,
first game of the year takes a while to get
your rhythm going, and so I mean, I think there's
some good things he said there. I just he's definitely

(12:43):
playing it a little too close to the vest I
think that'll listen up and he's trying to be an announcer
instead of just talking about football.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Yeah, I agree with that one.

Speaker 6 (12:53):
There was a part of the game that I did
see just prior to our show where the Browns had
a like a fourth and two or something, and they
were they were lining up for it, and you could
tell that Kevin Burkhart was giving him room to say something,
and at that point he didn't take advantage of it
to your point of he you want him to say
what a quarterback would be thinking, What are you thinking

(13:13):
if you're Deshaun Watson?

Speaker 5 (13:14):
What are you looking at?

Speaker 6 (13:16):
What information is going on within that triangle of you
and the head coach and the coordinator and whoever of
making that decision to go for it or kick a
field goal or punt. And I think they ended up
punting in that scenario. But you could tell that Burkhart
was trying to give him some rooms, some space to
say something, and Brady didn't say anything at that point,

(13:37):
and then when he finally did, it was a bit
of a cliche.

Speaker 5 (13:40):
But yeah, that'll come with times.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Not easy.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
Your first show is always your.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Worst correct, very very true.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
Prefet all right, I think we hit on the browns.
Let me let me pivot a little bit. I know
people like to think the best about technology out there,
that it brings new, cool and interesting things. But in
the case of what we are calling artificial intelligence, it
can't do the things people are saying it can do.
For example, ESPN announced before the weekend that they were

(14:12):
going to introduce artificial intelligence writing to several of their
quote underserved sports like the National Women's Soccer League and
Premier League Lacrosse. It just so happened this weekend was
also the last professional soccer game of Alex Morgan's career.
Alex Morgan, legendary US women's soccer player, announcing her retirement.
She's pregnant with a second kid on the way as well.

(14:34):
It was her last game with the San Diego Wave
and this was the first chance for ESPN's AI program
to come out and show what it had. Now AI
programs like this, we got to be clear. They don't
actually write articles. They take pieces and guess and think
what is appropriate to write about. They can't actually write
about it. So when the article came out about the
San Diego Waves game on Sunday, there was no mention

(14:58):
whatsoever about this being Alex Morgan's last game, nothing about
her performance. She was absent from the article entirely. ESPN
eventually went in, sent in another writer to write another article,
and even corrected the AI article. But this is just
flat out embarrassing considering how much they probably are paying
for artificial intelligence. If you can't put a writer, a

(15:21):
real writer who can actually like make deductions about what
is important and write a story, don't put a program
on it. It's worse than not even writing anything at all.
It was embarrassing, absolutely embarrassing for an organization that claims
that it's covering sports as a journalism outlet. It's malpractice

(15:41):
to the nth degree.

Speaker 10 (15:44):
Good.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
I like that all right?

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Byer did you go yet?

Speaker 5 (15:47):
I didn't.

Speaker 6 (15:48):
It was going to be a very self serving one,
and one that's a little bit, you know, backhanded. Remember
on the Gambler on Friday, I gave you guys a pick.
Then the pick was to take New England because I
just did not like where Cincinnati was. This was New
England with the points, and I think they were gonna
win outright, No, but they were more than a touchdown
dog at that point. And I just didn't like the

(16:10):
vibes coming out of Cincinnati. The only problem with what
I said Friday, Doug was on the podcast that I
record with Mike Harmon I Want Your Flex, that we
dropped Thursday night. I actually gave Cincinnati out as the
most likely survivor pick if you were to go.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
But I just had such a change of hearts.

Speaker 6 (16:28):
When I woke up the next morning that I left
that information out there. So I while I got the
Patriots one right, yeah, well, I got the Patriots one
right on Friday. I was with a lot of people
on Thursday with the Bengals as a survivor pick. I
also gave a seattle which ended up working, and I
took the Commanders in a pool and ended up hitting.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
But well and the Bucks. Yeah, yeah, excuse me, the bucks.

Speaker 6 (16:53):
Yeah, not the commanders, Yeah, the Bucks in that scenario
which ended up hitting.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
But yeah.

Speaker 6 (16:58):
I just wish I would keep my mouth shut times
because it was just so clear as day that the
Bengals just have their minds on other.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
Things and that's money. Yeah, complete distractions.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
I did not realize that either, because I picked them
my survivor pool. I did not survive.

Speaker 6 (17:11):
I was gonna pull thirty four percent of the entries
had the Bengals in and at one point the Dolphins
were losing big to the Jaguars, the Bears were down
to the Titans. You would have survivor pools that were
to have had fifty percent wiped out in the first
window of Sunday. But then Dolphins rallied and the Bears

(17:31):
defense obviously came to the rescue.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
That's my hate.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
I hate Nick Sirianni. I can't stand him. He's such
an incredible dB. It's unbelievable, like he just can't help himself.

Speaker 5 (17:52):
I don't know, Yeah, I agree, I just.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
What are we doing like we have? We've had athletes
that do that, know most the NBA players that just
and we just get worn out by him and they
move from team team. This guy's coaching one of the
best teams in the NFL and he's just every game,
every shot to the sideline. There's very little likable about him.
Can't stand him. Nobody won. So I hate that even worse.

(18:19):
And that's love and hate for the weekend. Doug Gottleep

(19:15):
All right, we got Monday night football upcoming, Jets taking
on the Niners. Apparently there's that Netflix documentary featuring Aaron Rodgers.
We know there's a book coming out which the Boys
did a very good review of, so much so the
author actually retweeted out. When we co hosted the guest
host of The Dan Patrick Show. But let's welcome in

(19:35):
Zach Rosenblatt. He joins this He covers the Jets for
The Athletic. He has a new feature as an article
featuring Aaron Rodgers. It's out today, Zach. For people who
haven't seen the or read the Aaron Rodgers feature, what's
in it?

Speaker 11 (19:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (19:49):
You know, I went to his hometown in Chico, California
and basically kind of asked people what they thought about Aaron.
And I heard a lot of stories about the impact
he saw in that community through you know, his donations.
He saved a lot of business during COVID, he was
very active and helping during some of the forest fires
they've dealt with. So I kind of just like dug
into how people feel about him in.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
His hometown and what conclusions do they come up with.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
I mean, the people I talked to is pretty universally positive,
because you know, it's a lot of it's like, you know,
I don't really care about his conspiracy theories and what
he talks about with COVID. I care about the impact
he's had on me and in my community, and you know,
the people that I know that he's interacted with. So
I think it's more like Aaron Rodgers can kind of
do no wrong here, Like, we don't really care what
he talks about. We just care about what he's done
for us.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Okay, how is Aaron Rodgers health wise getting rid of
this king?

Speaker 2 (20:35):
Yeah? You know, I think everything is full go with him,
you know, I think he's as healthy as can be.
I think the biggest question for me that I've had
throughout the off season has not been how he's gonna
look in practice. It's how he's gonna look when the
live bullets are flying, when he can actually get hit
when he you know, is he gonna hesitate when he's running?
Is he gonna get up when he gets sacked by
Nick Bosa inevitably like it? That's the biggest question I

(20:55):
have is how he handles that stuff. But otherwise he
looks pretty good. He's looks pretty good on the movies,
look good throwing the ball, and I don't have any
concerns about his health right now. It's just more about
how he reacts to that.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Okay, what about this team working together?

Speaker 11 (21:07):
Right?

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Obviously he missed some time in camp, They've had some injuries,
they didn't play together in the preseason. I know the
scrimmages are different and oftentime, you get more good quality
work out of the scrimmages. But what's the sense of
the readiness of this offensive unit.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Yeah, I think that's another big question beyond the health step,
it's how is this offense going to look because they
did not play in the preseason, Like you said, they
had some bumpy days during training camp. Towards the end
they really hit their stride. They did really well in
the joint practice against the Giants. Giants that turns out
are not very good. But yeah, I think that's a
big question. You know, they have three new starting offensive lineman.

(21:42):
They have a new starting receiver and Mike Williams a
rookie a Malcai Corley's like, they have a lot of
new pieces. So and Aaron Rodgers is you know, not
the easiest to play with in terms of like all
the asks of his teammates. So if they're rusty today,
I would not be shocked.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Okay, what about the defense? The defense carry him last year,
but they they thought they were going to have Hassan
Reddick as as part of that front seven. What does
this defense look like getting ready for the Niners tonight?

Speaker 2 (22:10):
I mean with al as on Reddick, This is still
a top ten to fifteen defense, I think, and they
could carry this team as far as you know, they
need to with a better offense with a Son Reddick.
You know, that makes a big difference. You know, they
left Brice Huugh leaving free agency, had ten sacks last year.
John frankl Myers was a solid better and they traded
him away, and they were banking aciss on Reddick filling
that production. He never showed up. So now they're banking
on a guy will McDonald. It was their first round

(22:31):
pick last year, not really proven anything, but otherwise, you know,
across the board, this is one of the most talented
defense in the NFL. Thos Gardner's he mostly quint Wi Williams,
Quinn Williams, Jermaine Johnson, Like they've really really high talent level.
But yeah, I do have questions about how they're going
to fill that void in terms of the pass rush.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
There have been some more outside the buildings that have said, hey,
bit of a mess there. You're inside the building, you're
an insiders as you join us getting ready for this game.
What's the level of a cohesiveness, cohesiveness of this entire unit.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Yeah, you know, I don't I think asking in terms
of like the messed up. I think ask again in
like a month, and if they've lost like a bunch
of games, then maybe I can tell you that they're
a mess. But I do not actually think they've been
very business like. They've been very smart in their approach.
I think Robert Solaz kind of changed his tone. Where
last year he's very boastful, this year he's been very reserved.
Other than Aaron Rodgers, you don't really hear guys talking

(23:21):
about how we're super Bowl contenders, which you don't really
You don't like when teams talk like that in the offseason.
I think you don't want to get Blischberg team that
hasn't been to the playoff until long. You don't really
want to get put the cart before the horse. I
think they've done all the right things, but now we'll
see how they handle it when they start losing games.
If they start losing games, things like that.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports for Radio, Zach
Rosenblatz our guest. He's joining us. He wrote a piece
today going to Aaron Rodgers' hometown talking about a Rodgers.
He gets ready to come back once again to Sam Francisco,
team that famously passed on him as the number one
overall pick in the draft. You mentioned this article. Is
that still part of his kind of burning desire to
prove people wrong, even though it's twenty years ago that

(24:00):
was that he sat there in the draft from winning
all that time.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
I think that's something that still does linger. He did
say the other day, and he did it kind of
tongue in cheeked him to kind of like point out
how long he's lasted. He's he's like pretty much there's
not a single person that's still in the forty nine
Ers organization that was there when they passed on me.
So it's been a long time. Yeah, I do think
there is something to be said about him going out
in that stadium. The team he grew up rooting for,

(24:25):
teaming dreamed of playing for, passed on him. He's a
guy that has chips on his shoulder. That's how he
gets motivated. So I think he's going to be thinking
about that.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Best. Guess what's his game play out like tonight.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
I mean a lot of it's going to depend on
how they look at the very beginning, Like if they're
very rusty and they turn the ball over or something
like that. It could get ugly, but I think it's
gonna be a competitive game. Forty nine Ers probably wind
up winning. They have a team full of guys that
have been there. But I think the Jets can compete
with them because they do have a talent level that's,
you know, in the top five to ten in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
Zach, I really appreciate it. Outstanding article today, Paul. Go
check it out The Athletic Zach Rosenblack Zach rosenblae. That
is the art author.

Speaker 10 (25:01):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
It features Aaron Rodgers. It's available right now. Just cool
to the Athletic dot com. Zach, enjoy the game. We'll
talk to you soon. We appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
Yeah, thanks, Doug. I have a go one Stug.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Gottlieb show, you're on Fox Sports Radio. Wasn't just good
to have the NFL back on yesterday? Man, that early window.
There's so many games in late window, a little bit
of downer, right, Plus you have the game tonight, and
you had the Thursday, you had the Friday, so we're
a little bit depleted in terms of games.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
I was exhausted. I got I fell.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
Asleep and woke up. I took a nap of the
couch and I.

Speaker 6 (25:34):
Said, he, I said to my wife last time, and
go we wait all off season for this. And maybe,
you know, it's really difficult watching football, but I think
the Friday night game made it a longer week. I
don't know if that that's the reason why, but I
felt more exhausted last night. And then the Sunday night
game goes into overtime. Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (25:57):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (25:58):
I hate to admit it, but there was a small
part of me that's just like, could this just end?
Can I just need a breather here, just for a second,
I just need a time out? Can I please? Can
I please just get a little breather? But yeah, it
was a lot.

Speaker 7 (26:13):
Our guy in the back, Bo Benson kind of had
a theory that because of that Friday game that we
were going to feel pretty well exhausted from all this football.
And I think it really hit in. And I don't know,
maybe it's because of how long I you know, I'm
here on Sundays covering a lot of the games too,
and it just feels like Sunday night football. We hit
that Sunday night window, and I'm like, I could I

(26:33):
could use the break. Yeah, I mean the Lions were on,
so I watched it, but there was There's been other
weeks where I've had to tap out of Sunday Night Football,
even with West Coast time on my favor because it's
like I've been watching football for eight hours now.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
I've done done.

Speaker 6 (26:47):
You know this, I've said this for years on your show.
If you could take any window out of your viewing
for football, I would take Sunday Night Football out it. Actually,
I don't like it that it usually has the prime
time key matchup that you want to see, because I have
just devoured eight hours of football that whole day.

Speaker 7 (27:06):
Even more when there's the London games on to start the.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
Day, Lunny games on, it makes it just the longest
day ever. I think part of it is Dan, you
and I watch a lot of college football too. Sure,
you know, I think the NFL fans like, eh, that'll
be good, and Sunday was Saturday was incredible as well.

Speaker 6 (27:22):
I also feel that there is a majority of fans
that will watch their team's games and then they won't
watch the other afternoon window whatever it is, and then
we'll have the Sunday night game on. You know wherever
they're home. And as you said, we're in a time
zone where it's still daylight out right now and those games.

Speaker 5 (27:37):
Are kicking off.

Speaker 6 (27:38):
But on the East Coast that's not necessarily the case,
so it's probably a different viewing experience as well.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
We at sunset right at kickoff, yes, last night. Yeah,
it's it's moved up some I will. We also have
in green Bay, we have a little bit of the
Powder's complex, right that green Bay lost, Jordan Love hurt,
and so there's the oh man, this is going to
be a tough year here, right, So then you don't
even want to watch any other football. Normally you'd be like, Sunday,

(28:05):
my team already played. My team wins, like I guarantee
Ego fans they watched with great joy, Like, ah, Guyans lost,
that's awesome. Cowboys look pretty good. But we'll split with them,
you know, Washington still stinks. Were good. Like, if you win,
you'll watch more football. If you lose, you go Powder.
You're like, I don't want to watch anything. I want
to talk to anybody I want to. I'll just go
to home depot and and figure stuff out.

Speaker 7 (28:23):
Yeah, that's definitely that's definitely a phenomenon early window Thursday games,
Like if your team wins, you're ready for more. If
you're if they lose, you you're turning it all off.
You don't want to deal with the outside world.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
I'll say this about college football as well, because I
felt this watching Oregon and Boise State on Saturday night
the twelve team playoff, Like, if Oregon loses that game
other years, absolutely crushing. Same thing with Michigan against Texas,
but you still think, like maybe you can bounce back.
But if Oregon were to have lost at home to
Boise State after how they struggled against Idaho, now you're

(28:56):
saying to yourself, uh oh, yeah this is over. We're
not gonna make the four team playoff. Now the twelve
team playoff, you're like, all right, we just got to
keep winning games and maybe beat Ohio State in mid
October and we should be good. Completely different feel of urgency.
It is the college game.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
Yeah, I agree with you. I also think it's interesting,
you know, like my own Monora beat Arkansas, and I thought,
I mean, Arkansas ran the ball all over the place
on them. Just turn the ball over and game the opportunities.
But it's interesting because Arkansas had struggled in Sam Pittman
when they were so bad last year, closing winning close games.
And you lose another close game. It's like the old habits.
You know, die hard, but like that one win, double

(29:33):
overtime you have. I had nothing to hang your hang
your head on it in Arkansas. A matter of fact,
I actually think Arkansas really good. The questions are more
Ocla mistate. With all that talent back offensively, they couldn't
do anything in the first half against Arkansas.

Speaker 7 (29:47):
You want to talk about windows and like getting exhausted
from too much football though, Dan Doug eleven pm Eastern
USC kickoff eight pm Local, Like, I mean, you kind
of had to given.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
How hot it was out here. Yeah, But the.

Speaker 7 (30:00):
Same time I hit that I love college football as
much as NFL, and I hit that eight pm Pacific window,
and it's like, I have to be up in the morning.
I can't deal with this.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Well, you know, I think they look good. They did
look good. That's why Alma Mater.

Speaker 7 (30:14):
I wanted to watch it, but I had to be Like,
I watched thirty minutes and then I had to go
to bed because I had to be back here at
like five am Local.

Speaker 6 (30:21):
But Doug's point earlier about Notre Dame and how do
we look at Notre Dame if they're one and one
after two weeks, and it was flipped around a different way.
There were people who were saying Notre Dame clinched a
spot in the twelve team playoff with their week one win,
and and by the way, like that analysis isn't that
bad considering you look at their schedule and you can

(30:43):
point out where you think that they'll probably get wins,
and even if they were to lose the season ender
against USC, you know, they got a game against Louisville,
who's looks to be pretty good this year. But even
to that point, you're sitting there and they're like, okay,
they're a three loss team and they should probably get
into the playoff. But that's that's the craziness of it.

(31:03):
Now you think of the loss in Northern Illinois, does
it hamper them that much? Probably not for as great
of a moment as it was for NIU. I don't
think Notre Dame's playoff chances. They obviously took a hit
from where they were a week ago, but they are
not lost by any means, And in other years, that
would have been a death nail for Notre Dame to
get into the playoff.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
I think it'd be really hard for them to overcome that,
really hard. I agree with you. It's not a death nail,
but it's about as close as you can. Like they're
in that medically induced coma. I mean, like, no, they
there's a chance of recovery. There's a chance, like yeah,
what's the chance, like five percent?

Speaker 6 (31:42):
Okay, So if they're ten and two with a loss
at home to Northern Illinois and a loss at USC
at the end of the year.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
They're in the playoff, right, I don't think so. You
don't think so?

Speaker 7 (31:52):
No, I guess the question that the code question, well,
who else is?

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Who else is has those losses? Then we don't know
who else did they beat? That's any good because their
schedule is not particularly strong. Yeah, I doubt it though.
That's a hard one because nor in Illinois it's not
And I know they've been in the MAC for probably
twenty years, but they're not even like when you think
of MAC, you think of you know, Ken State, Akron whatever,

(32:18):
they're like and it's not like Jerry kills there. So yeah,
I don't because you know Northern Ollily ends up with
five losses. At that time, You're like, whoa, how's a
bad one?

Speaker 7 (32:30):
What if NIU runs the table on the mac though,
that's a different story, Like is that that quality loss?

Speaker 5 (32:35):
For yea? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Absolutely? Which is which wouldn't be the only pushback I
would have dan on you on Oregon, which is a
lot of people think Boise State wins the Mountain West
has a chance of the playoff had they lost that game,
and I know you coupled it with Idaho, you you
contextualize it perfectly. They lost the game and boys, he
ends up going to the College Fall playoff.

Speaker 6 (32:52):
Well it's a different story, sure, sure, but I would
say no loss to Northern Illinois for Notre Dame is
a good loss, even if Northern Illinois is unbeaten, no question,
no question.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
I mean, like, look, Notre Dame has Purdue, Maam of Ohio, Louisville, Stanford,
Georgia Tech, Navy, Florida State, Virginia Army, USC like all
those wins don't really help you just don't.

The press.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
Got there, Doug the Yeah, Dan Yeah.

Speaker 6 (34:04):
The big news that is making its runs on social
media is that James Earl Jones has passed away at
the age of ninety three.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
James Old Jones.

Speaker 5 (34:17):
Voice of Darth Vader, Field of Dreams for Me.

Speaker 6 (34:24):
Many, He's uh, he's in CNN.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
Remember this is CNN.

Speaker 6 (34:31):
He's an egot guy, right Emmy, Grammy, Oscar Tony.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Yeah, amazing man. What else?

Speaker 6 (34:41):
Okay, I'm sorry, we have like three we do, but
James Earl Jones just died.

Speaker 5 (34:48):
Everybody saw can can can?

Speaker 6 (34:50):
Jason or Chris just be like you love the movie
of his because I'm not the guy and then we.

Speaker 5 (34:56):
Can move on lack of faith disturbing. Okay.

Speaker 7 (34:59):
I I literally just watch Fear Clear and Present Danger
the other night.

Speaker 6 (35:04):
All right, Jason, you want to put this in any
perspective at all.

Speaker 10 (35:08):
It's one of those things where I've always loved his
pipes and I've always wondered this if you needed James
eld Jones to like intro your Game one of the
World Series. Okay, how much is it going to set
you back? Is it a million bucks flat? I bet
he had so many of those one offs. I would
love to know the rate. You know, I think about
I was.

Speaker 7 (35:28):
A Shakespeare nerd in high school, and he is like
a Shakespeare guy, and there is some stuff out there
of him quoting Shakespeare, and it is just you'll get chilled.

Speaker 5 (35:36):
Now you've lost me. Now you've lost me.

Speaker 6 (35:38):
Let's talk some football. Daniel Jones is going to stay
the quarterback of the New York Giants. Brian Dable reconfirming
today that Daniel Jones is their starter week two against
the Commanders after yesterday's dismal day against those Vikings.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
They are bad. He's bad, They're bad.

Speaker 5 (35:56):
I understand.

Speaker 6 (35:57):
The Giants have been in the league one hundred years.
So I am not necessarily against how awful those uniforforms
looked yesterday. I get it, but it just points out
the reason of why do we have throwbacks at times
from like the nineteen fifties. No one is appealing. It's
not appealing to anyone. The people who remember those teams

(36:21):
are in their eighties and nineties and don't care about
the uniforms, Which brings me to the point of the
Seahawks Doug as you mentioned earlier, of them wearing their throwbacks.
Everybody seems to like them. It's awesome, it's great. Seahawks
are one of the newer teams in the NFL, coming
in in nineteen seventy six, but there's no reason to
have throwbacks in the nineteen forties and thirties, even though

(36:44):
it'll give the Giants a pass for their one hundredth anniversary.
Jordan Love If he can't go in Week two against
the Colts, Matt Lafleur says, Malik Willis will start that
game on Sunday.

Speaker 10 (36:54):
If there's an if.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Yes, yeah, I suppose that he's trying to get back
to play.

Speaker 5 (36:58):
Wow, all you need is love, hell, bump, bu.

Speaker 6 (37:04):
And Matt Lafleur says he has confidence that Malik Willis
will go out there on a and play well. Mark
Fewer reiterated. Will Mark few reiterated to John Rothstein of
CBS Sports that once he retires, assistant Brian Michaelson will
replace Few as the Bulldog's head coach. Is that pretty
well known in the hoops world, Doug.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
No, I mean yes, and no, I mean Tommy Lloyd left.
He's got other guys other spots. But yeah, Michaelson's been
there for a lot lot. It's it's not surprising, but
surprising that he said it.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
Okay, that's the press. May get out there and pressed.

Speaker 4 (37:42):
That was the press.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
All right, check out the podcast. It's up top of
the hour. It's an hour only. I think you'll actually
love it. In the meantime, I like the Niners Big Tonight.
