Speaker 3 (00:49):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
I don't know, I don't know, JASO. I just I
love it so much. Breaking one nine, Breaker one nine, Comeback.
I just so much fun. Suppost like we have some
really cool sponsors, right like Tyraq. I had a manager,
My manager, Brady he got a flat tire we called Tyraq.
He's all hooked up, Brady to go the DraftKings. Guys
(01:12):
are great, right, and we have so many cool sponsors.
The rapid radio is one though. It gets all of
us to pretend like we're ten again, right except yeah,
except these things actually work. That's so cool. Come back anyway. Sorry,
(01:34):
we're just all playing art. We're all playing uh not
Dukes of Hazzard, but Dukes of Hazzard, had the had
the what is this called this the old Ham Radio
CB radio? Right, but I'm thinking more smoking the bandit,
smoking the bandit. Let's get to the midway, shall we.
(01:55):
He's not getting.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
It's time for.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
The Midway every Wednesday, which is the middle of the week.
Every you know it is the middle of the show,
the middle of the day. And remember you like middle
of the show. Like now we have a one hour
podcast version which drops it five on the east, two
in the west type and doug out the over download podcast.
We find a midway topic. Now the nine to eleven
(02:24):
could have been midway topic, right, understood, Chase. Do I
have a couple of others? Chase, do you got one
of your.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
Back Let's see here my group tech says the fallowing,
biggest over reaction from week one in the NFL, biggest
over reaction from week one in the NFL, or the
biggest beatdown by a team or athlete that you didn't
see coming ode to the Vice president's performance last night, it's.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
A good win.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I actually the vice President's one. There's there's a foot
game I'm thinking of. I got to get to what
it is. I got to remember what it is like
just because she was shaky at the start and then
all of a sudden, like holy cow, did she throttle
up fire? You like either those two or there's a
different one you want to throw out there.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I was I was planning on either of those two.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Bick one.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
I was going to say an overreaction from week one,
the beat the beatdowns, I guess could be college football
as well, if you if you wanted one.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
But we do over I think we do over reactions.
I'm okay with out reactions. Sam you okay without reactions.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I'm good with either. I got stuff ready.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Okay, Sammy wants you to start there, show us well.
Speaker 7 (03:42):
The team that put up the most points last weekend
was the Saints, and everybody is just saying that Bryce
Young's career is over that after that forty seven to
ten demolition. First of all, Also, a lot of us
were saying the Saints are just stale and we have
nothing to look forward to that team, and they came
(04:04):
out with their new play caller, guns blazing, very impressive win.
But I would say, you know, listen, Bryce Young has
not looked good and he's not lived up to his
filling as was he that he was the top overall
pick right two years ago. Yes, yeah, but I would
say give him more time, give him more time. He
deserves more time. He's been you know, coaching changes and
(04:26):
all kinds of stuff. Give the guy more time to
show that he can play quarterback in the NFL. So
that's that would say, just we're quick to bury people,
and he has not had a great start his career,
but he deserves more time to prove he can play.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Wouldn't you say that Bryce Young's size looks really bad
when they're losing, like maybe in high school and at
Alabama they were just kicking butt, so he it wasn't that, yeah,
him being so small a loser, he.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Looks so tiny, I don't you know, And I saw.
I listen a minute, like, I thought, Bryce Young will
be awesome in the pros. Just I've seen Kyler Murray.
He's small, but then you look and he's just so tiny.
He doesn't appear to have a strong enough arm. He's
not as athletic as other guy, as other you know,
as as a as a bright as a Kyler Murray is. Yeah,
(05:19):
I think it is. I think it's It's one of
those things where you know, whether it's Russell Wilson or
Drew Brees or Kyler Murray, we've all gotten to this
a you don't have to be that big, that's kind
of overrated. Then you're like, you watch him like maybe
they kind of have a point.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
I also think, and maybe this may be me being biased,
but I didn't. I felt that Bryce Young got to
pass because he was from Alabama and Alabama hadn't been
this great quarterback, you know, product machine with college.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
But CJ. Stroud was in the same draft. We see
how CJ.
Speaker 6 (05:59):
Stroud's been and there has been a negative connotation with
Ohio State quarterbacks previously, and I felt like Bryce Young
was built up so much because he was from Alabama
and Stroud was taking this hit because he was from
Ohio State when they're two completely different quarterbacks. But the
(06:20):
success rate wasn't that great at Alabama that you needed
to believe it. I don't know if it's the Nick
Saban thing, but yeah, there was just there was a
lot more belief in Bryce Young than that I thought
should be in that draft.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
And did you guys see that still shot of him
getting sacked and his butts kind of up in the
air and just it just was a very compromising picture
and just didn't didn't stoke any kind of confidence in him.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Maybe.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Okay, what about you there, Jay Su, what's your the
overreaction from the weekend.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
I'm gonna take up for my guy Aaron Rodgers and
the Jets. I think that there was this remarkable style
last year. I forget the exact numbers, but I'm just
gonna paraphrase here to prove a point that the team
that plays the team that just played the forty nine
ers is like nineteen and one against the spread. In
(07:14):
other words, the team that just got done playing the
forty nine ers a week after is so banged up
and injured that they don't cover the spread the next week.
I thought that's an amazing stat but it also speaks
to how much the forty nine ers just kick your ass.
And I don't know if it's fair too, And you
guys were very measured yesterday, and I appreciate that. I
(07:36):
don't think it's fair to say the Jets are done
and I'm not even talking about their favorable schedule. The
forty nine ers are a really good team, and if
you get them playing downhill like they did on Monday night, lookout.
And Aaron Rodgers wasn't on the field enough to show
us if he's got everything, he's got back. So I'm
gonna take a pause and I'm going to not overreact
(07:57):
like the entire city of New York is doing right now.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Yeah, Okay, I felt there was more flak on Salah
because of the defense's performance.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Yes, well I think it was on both, but yes
it was. It was the idea and I heard Craig
Curtin save this earlier today and I think he's right,
which is like, I get it's been a couple of years,
but you're the defensive coording or you're surprised by the
running game, like what what were you doing?
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Sure midway by.
Speaker 6 (08:30):
Now this may be a bit of a reach. Okay,
but this really annoyed me yesterday, and it.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Really annoys you that it's not a reach. Dan, I
don't understand your tape.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
But I hope you guys see where I'm coming from.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
I'm seeing power rankings across the NFL, and I see
the Kansas City Chiefs number one. Great win on Thursday night,
no doubt about it. But if that's the case, does
the Baltimore Ravens better be number two?
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (08:56):
So the point is, is the Ravens again a toe
away from having a two point conversion attempt to go
to Kansas City and win that game. And for as
much as we love the Chiefs, and they've built up
enough equity in what they have done to believe that
they will be there at the end, I like I
(09:18):
saw power rankings yesterday, the Chiefs won in Ravens five. Well, No,
if the Ravens are that close to going to Kansas
City and winning the opening season game, then the Ravens
should be second. And if you don't want to have
Kansas if you don't have the Ravens second, you want
to have them fifth, then put Kansas City forth because
that's where those two teams are right now. They are
neck and neck for what we look at in the
(09:39):
National Football League. So I don't want to say an
overreaction to the Chiefs win, but I feel like there
is of like when we see, you know, Xavier Worthy
have the game that he had, now we're like, oh,
my gosh, Patrick Mahomes has weapons.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Agreed, all of that is true, and they will be
there and.
Speaker 6 (09:54):
No one will want to play them in the playoffs,
whether they're a one seed or a seven seed. But
if we are taking what we saw on Thursday night
and through Week one of the NFL season, then you
have to give the Baltimore Ravens at least some of
that credit as well. And that's so that's kind of
my overreaction. It's a combo of the Ravens and Chiefs.
(10:14):
You want to put the Chiefs one, fine, put the
Ravens to then, but those teams are neck in that
there shouldn't be a gap between them if you're trying
to sort out who's good in the National Football League.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Dan, I can't help but think, Dan real fast that
you mentioned the power rankings just so and gave me
kind of a ramp for me to mention that my
first power rankings of the season are going to be
released tonight.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
At Jason Stewart. Jason Stewart, all right, and I listen.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
I think that there's evidence for the Chiefs to be
number one. But then, don't disrespect you know, I'm looking
at Nick Wright's tiers right now. We know Nick's the
Chiefs fan, right, you know FS one they're number one, yes,
and I am a number.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
One imber one. I have the Niners number one. I
think nineer from one.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Yeah, there's the Niners two, then the Texans in the
third tier with the Cowboys and lines, and the Ravens
are in the fourth tier. Well, how could the Ravens
be in the fourth year when that again they were
a toll away from having a two point conversion to
beat you. They did go ninety yards on that final
drive to set it up, and there's and that's just
that's just my whole point about it.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Take it for what it is, not what you want
it to be.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
And you know, I might My only pushback would be
that the Chiefs did drop too pass in the end zone.
But again, you're you're not, You're not. It is overreact.
We're talking about overreactions. That is an overaction. I got one.
It's the opposite of the Jets one. It's the Niners.
We all know the Niners are stacked, we all know
they're really, really good. But let's be honest. They played
(11:45):
a Jets team that had to travel all the way
across the country. Aaron Rodgers hasn't really had success against
them anyway, and like, that's a franchise that's ready to go.
And though they had missed some guys in training camp,
they have just dudes across the board. I just let's
see what happens with the Niners when next too, are
(12:06):
on the road in domes, at the vikings, at the Rams,
Let's see what happens there. Before we kind of crown
the Niners, and they had some money even performances last
year as well, Let's see what happens with them. It's
a little bit like the Giants. I think the Jets
aren't particularly good. I think the Giants are terrible. So
the teams that beat these teams, it's really hard to
(12:28):
tell you how good they are. If you want to
crown them, they've crowned our ass.
Speaker 6 (12:32):
I agree with everything you said. The one thing that
I do like with the forty nine ers is they
didn't rush Christian McCaffrey. They are getting bread and I
you can you know Trent Williams in I think that
they realize this isn't this isn't.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
A eighteen week season. They're going to be good enough
to make the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (12:49):
They got to make sure that they peak at the
right time, are hot in the playoffs, and then can
right the wrong of their overtime loss from February long.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
It's a long haul right now.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
But if Jordan Mason takes a bunch of carries in
the first half of the season, then Christian mccaffery's even
more fresh than the second half.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Anybody else any other massive overreactions? I got one, I
got one, like another one, all right, Like I don't
know if Tom Brady will ever be good. He was
not good this weekend. But I have broadcast games and
I may actually get the broadcast couple this year, and
we'll see. But I've done it for full time, my
(13:35):
job for twenty one years, and the first time back.
Even though I talk for a living and I do
a radio show, I've done TV shows. It's different. It
does take you a while to get kind of your
sea legs, if you will. And then I think, you know,
I think he did him they he did himself, or
they did him a disservice doing those practice games where
(13:57):
you feel like you're doing real games but there's just
no way to replicate. And I don't think he's getting
I kind of agree with Dan Patrick and with Colin
Coward and felt like he over prepared. But the big
thing is like he struggles being regular Tom Brady instead
of Super Bowl Tom Brady. And while I know we
(14:18):
all know Jason can't stand listening to Tony Romo do
a game, the one thing that Tony Romo has, it's
the John Madden relatability. Feels like a feels like a
guy who could sit on the couch while he's played
quarterback in the NFL. And Britty does not have that.
And he has that in real life. He's got a
great likability factor, like you see something talk to people
that he just it reminds me. Dave Reverson is a
(14:42):
dear friend of mine. He's been on the show. He's
the lead face of the Big Ten Network. And there
was a guy I won't name him. He was at
ESPN and we're playing golf with them one time, Like, man,
you've got a great personality. How about bringing out out
on the air sometime, you know? And some people just
struggle with that. But I do think we're overreacting a
little bit to Tom Brady. Lots dude start out and
they're not particularly good.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
Do you guys think Tom Brady over prepared for this? Yes, yeah,
that's it. Yeah, he was just do what Colin and Dan.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I think there were things. I would think there's some
things that he wasn't prepared for that he doesn't know.
Like you, whoever told him what to do shouldn't tell
him what to do. And I don't know who was
at Fox. I know I'm I would encourage. I don't
know what Dan Steer is doing now. He's he's the
guy who trained me at ESPN. He's phenomenal, phenomenal. You know,
(15:28):
you want to leave three quarters of what you study
and research on the on the cutting room floor, if
you will, But you just gotta speak and be And yeah.
Speaker 6 (15:38):
I did something that I've never done before because my
show was on during Brady's debut. I recorded the Cowboys
Browns game to go back and hear Brady, and I
watched some of it last night, and I only caught
the first part of it before our show started being
Carrie Roads here on Fox. But I fast forward into
like the second quarter, fast forward into the second half
(15:58):
to hear them, and he was better than what I
felt the criticism was out there. I felt that there
were times You're right. The relatability is going to be
the key part. That's why I think he almost has
to go a football nerd on people, and maybe that
is his avenue because it's going to be difficult for
Tom Brady to relate like John Madden did. But there
(16:20):
was a point where the Browns had an incomplete pass
that was called to catch and he tried to like joke,
He's like, you know, like this would be a time
I like hurry up, and that's exactly what he said
on the broadcast, and trying to get everybody to the line.
So that kind of like was was able to break through.
There were awkward pauses in the beginning, but throughout I
(16:41):
when I listened more, it was better than I think
he's getting credit for. It wasn't great, but I think
that everybody wanted greatness because of the contract.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
There's a rhythm to it. There's a rhythm to it
when you talk that economy of words. And I'll just
be I know, I'm really good at calling games. But
the guy who's the best of the economy of words
is Jay Billis, Like he's amazing. He says so many
things in such such few words. He's the guy in
terms of preparation, like you can't do much better than
(17:13):
fran for Scilla. He does an incredible job at ESPN.
Those are basketball guys, football guys right, Like you know, frankly,
there's some guys that do football that are really good
that maybe don't do the NFL. What's uh, you know
(17:34):
who's really really good? I think he works for US
now at Fox, right brock cuor she still work for
US if I he college games for US? I think
brock your is outstanding, relatable, smart, knows this stuff, doesn't
overtalk like that's the guy I would. I mean, like
(17:54):
he's freaking fantastic, fantastic Anna former quarterback as well teaching
this stuff. And that is the Midway.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
The Midway. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk
lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at
Foxsports Radio dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app search
FSR to listen live.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Stuck Got Hip show Fox Sports Radio m Tyreek Hill was,
I don't know why they keep letting him talk in Miami.
There was some good actually to what he said, but
then there wasn't. Here's Tyreek Hill when he's asked if
he wants the police officer fired.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
So you want the officer gone, gone, gone gone?
Speaker 8 (18:47):
He gotta go, man because in that instant right there, like,
not only did he do treat me bad, you know
what I'm saying, he also treated my teammates with you know, disrespect.
You know, he had some crazy words towards them and
they ain't even doing nothing, like what did they do
to you? They just walking on the sidewalk. So I
(19:08):
don't know, bro like, he gotta go, man like And
not too many times that she to say, people gotta go,
but you ow what they saying, why or not gone?
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Mm hmmmm hm. I always think that did then be Yeah,
first of all, always really really good too. I don't
think he meant anything by it, but Hispanic officer don't
need to speak Spanish at the end of trying to
make it tell somebody's fired.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
I know.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Yeah. By the way, if we're gonna we're gonna quote
a TV show, we're gonna quote Nick Cannon's wilding out.
He just doesn't get he I mean, like, look, we
all know he's not smart enough to get it right.
Well we all know that about Tyreek Hill. So most
(19:59):
Fall player, especially professionals, are highly intelligent. He's just not
one of them. And I love the fact that he said,
you know, I could have been better. I got to
be better. I should have rolled down, kept down my
window right, handle it differently. It would have been differently.
And I would even say that the police officer probably
a little bit much, But you want him fired twenty
seven years in the force with no understanding at all
(20:22):
of Well, my teammates said, just walking down the street.
No they weren't. They were driving by. They saw you
being cuffed, and they pulled over and quickly hopped out
of the car, like you don't do that. This is
this is a guy. And look, he's a snapshot of
so many in gen Z who when something happens, they
whip out their phone and they film it and they
stick it in an officer's face and all they do
(20:44):
is escalate it. Even more instead of walking over to
an officer and saying, Hey, that's my friend, Like, what's
going on here? Well, that's Dan and Jeremiah in a second. First,
let's get to Dan, Dan byer, get a quick update Dan,
what he got.
Speaker 6 (20:59):
Yeah, couple of things in baseball right now, Guardians on
top of the White Sox five to four, and the
seventh inning on Chicago South Side. The Mets in that
race with the Braves for the final wild card in
the National League. While the Mets right now trail Toronto
by a score of one nothing. They're in the sixth
inning in Canada. Also in the thing of things in
the wildcard race, the Diamondbacks there are two games up
(21:20):
on the Mets for that second wildcard. Arizona's up on
Texas right now, five to two in the fourth inning.
Earlier today, the Pirates dropped the Marlins three to one.
Michigan officially finalized the contractive at football coach Daron Moore
forty nine er sayed. Running back Christian McCaffrey limited in
practiced today with his ankle and achilles injuries. That was
the message from Kyle Shanahan, Doug back to you.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Thanks so much. Let's welcome in. He's Daniel Jeremiah. He
of course has the Move the Sticks podcast, which is
good to football podcast. You can find anywhere he's You
see him on the NFL network and you can hear
him calling Charger games where the Chargers, who last year
were eviscerate by the Raiders. Different game, and look, some
(22:02):
of it is confirmation bias, some of it is I
don't think the Raiders particularly good, nor do I think
they're particularly well coached, But I do think that looked
like a competent, solid football team, very different from the
past of the Chargers. You see every practice, you see
the games.
Speaker 9 (22:19):
What do you think, Well, I think it's interesting. The
name that came to mind watching the game was actually
Marty Schottenheimer. I was thinking back to, like the Marty
Schottenheimer brand of football, and that's what that felt like,
where the running game is not working, you just stick
with it eventually it'll break through, which which ended up happening.
(22:39):
The defense doesn't have to play you know, quite as
many snaps. They get rest, they're fresh, they're playing fast.
I mean the formula you can see it kind of
unfolding it and it's that don't beat yourself. You know,
I really believe that you can get that nine wins
is attainable for anybody out there if you'll play like
that brand of football. People choose not to do it,
(23:01):
but I think that's a very high floor brand of football. Now.
With Marty Schottenheimer as an example, Doug when he had
a Hall of Famer in LT obviously had you know,
big time Pro Bowl quarterbacks. They were great along the
line of scrimmage, Hall of Fame tight end. Now all
of a sudden, that formula looks like it, you know,
it could be a championship formula, thirteen to fourteen win formula.
I still think the roster has work to do in
(23:24):
that regard to get to that place, but I feel
like that what they're establishing here is a very high
floor brand of football.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
I would agree. I agree, solid solid. I do wonder
if Herbert fits it when they get some more pass
catchers out there, but I'm not sure that's really the
issue right now. Right now, protecting run the football and
play conservatively. It was pretty impressive. You and I have
been ardent supporters of the new quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings.
(23:55):
Samdhar looked really, really good. How much of that was
the opponent's being terrible, how much of that was the
Viking has actually got a chance to be pretty good.
Speaker 9 (24:04):
I think the Vikings got a chance to meet good.
I mean offensively, it's a it's a great setup for
Sam and more than anything else, you're just seeing Sam,
you know, play with some confidence and play free. I
remember watching those Jets games and you're like, man, they
could just get a first down early in the game.
I just get a little something going and it just
you know, it's so seldom happened. And then you pop
(24:25):
on this game and he starts out twelve to twelve
and it's like they actually made it. You know, you
can make life easier on your on your quarterback, and
that's what they've done there with with Kevin O'Connell. Obviously,
personnel has a lot to do with that. But no,
I thought he was I thought he was excellent, you know,
taking into account the opponent, Well, that's a good defensive
front that he went up against. So you know, I
(24:46):
don't think that was any of this needs that including
one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL in
Dexter Lawrence. So I thought it was I thought it
was impressive. I was definitely happy for him to have
that moment.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
What is your take on the Tyreek situation?
Speaker 9 (25:02):
Well, I mean I think, look, everybody, you know, everybody
has different opinions on it, and I don't pretend to,
you know, have all the answers on this. I tend
to agree with what you said in terms of, yeah,
could the officers have you know, were they a little
bit over the top, Sure, But everybody comes at this
from their own experiences and I respect that. I just
I have a family friend who is a police officer
(25:26):
who was killed in the line of duty in Orange
County on a routine traffic stop, you know, was shot
and killed. My daughter is just got married in November,
and her husband just graduated from the Fort Worth Police
Department and he's an officer there. And I know the
you know, the concern that just my daughter has of
him coming home every night. You know, there's so much
(25:48):
respect that I have for them, and it's you know, look,
it was over the top, yes, but I also think.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
You have probably reason for it, right, there's.
Speaker 9 (25:58):
Yeah, there's a reason why when they say roll your
window down, and when they say, you know, keep your
hands on the wheel or the other instructions you get
from officers. I think some people view that as a
power trip, where others realize that there's a lot of
these guys that have lost their lives because of routine
traffic stops. So I come at it from a little
different spot there.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
I'm actually it's actually the spot that we've all been
the same. It's like no one has and especially we
shall have empathy on a day like to that nine
to eleven. Well we remember, you know, first responders and
what they have to what they have to go through,
things that they do that others will not. And one
is simply knocking on a car window asking for a
driver's license when you were sweeding. You were the one
that created the violation, Like they don't know, they have
(26:40):
no idea what's going on in your car? None, none, none, none, no.
Speaker 9 (26:46):
And I'm kno going to pretend like they're you know,
everything was handled perfectly there and they could have filed
it back. But I just think everybody comes at these
situations from their own experience and I can't relate to
it as as somebody from on the other side of it.
I just I try it to empathize there, but I can't.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
I haven't.
Speaker 9 (27:03):
I don't have that experience. So I respect a lot
of different opinions with this stuff.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Danil Jeremiah joining us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
How fixable with the Bengals issues, I don't know.
Speaker 9 (27:14):
They've started out bad in the past, so I'm hopeful
that they can that Joe can get a little more comfortable.
But I mean, he wasn't really looking down the field
at all. He looked a little jittery. I'm hoping that
some of that just you know, kind of ring where us,
so to speak, that he'll he'll be able to knock that,
knock that off a little bit and find his normal rhythm.
(27:34):
I'm tempted to just throw this one out now. If
we're talking next week and we see what we saw
last week, then that would be majorly, majorly concerned, because
it was it was pretty bad.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
I think the Giants are that bad.
Speaker 9 (27:49):
Yeah, offensively they are. I know I talked about Sam
and the job that he did, But I do think
their front has a way to keep them in some games.
I just don't know how they're going to get to
the point. I need to get to have a winning season.
I just don't see it.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
I don't see it either. What about the Jets. I
know it's you know, I know it's across the country.
I know the Niners are really good, But like the
Niners running game like you were in the Robert Solo
was in the same building for a couple of years
as a defensive coordinator. I was. I was stunded how
ill prepared they were. So some of it is personnel based.
What's your level of concern with the Jets? Have to
(28:24):
watch them ONNY Night?
Speaker 9 (28:26):
Well, I don't know how many teams are equipped to
do to them what the Niners did to them, you know.
So I still feel the same about the Jets as
I did going into that one, which is I think
they're a you know, they're on the uh, you know,
kind of in the mix on the border, playoff team
type team. I don't think they're a super Bowl type team.
But you know, there's some some plays in that game
(28:49):
offensively where Fred Warner makes plays on Brice Hall that
I don't know if there's another linebacker in the NFL
is going to make, you know, so some of those
are going to break free and they're going to pop.
They do need to find, you know, to find more
guys to get the ball Tom. That's Mike Williams getting healthier.
The involving tight ends. But it can't just be here
at Wilson and uh, you know, and especially Allen Wizard.
(29:11):
That can't be their passing game. They've got to find
some more guys. I thought Rogers was a little you know,
there was some rusts there. I thought he was laid
on some throws, but I also saw a couple of
you know, big time throws in there. And they've if
they get competent quarterback play, I think with the you know,
with the schedule that they have, I think they're you know,
(29:31):
they're a game over five hundred type team that's that's
competing for a playoff spot. But I don't necessarily view
them as a championship contender.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Okay, what's your what are your thoughts on? Lamar obviously
ran it more than we thought, and look, I know
that's his credit night, and it's it's the Chiefs, and
the Chiefs appear to be better at least at this
time this year. They were last time this year. But
you know, there were two just just misses on final
drive and some other misses during the game. What are
(30:03):
your thoughts on Lamar have to watching in last Thursday night.
Speaker 9 (30:06):
I mean, I think it's kind of we've been and
what he's always been. You take the good with the bad.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
There.
Speaker 9 (30:11):
He's never going to be someone who makes every strow.
There's gonna be critical moments where you're gonna want a
little bit more in terms of the accuracy department. But
he still makes some crazy plays, you know with his legs,
and uh, I think they you know, if Isaiah likely
gets his toe down, you know, maybe we're having a
little bit different you know, look at that game. So
I think they're fine. I still think they're one of
(30:32):
the you know, four best teams in the in the conference.
I just don't, you know, I don't see them hoisting
the trophy. I just don't.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
I don't either. I don't either.
Speaker 7 (30:43):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
A couple more DJ Anthony Richardson makes that one kind
of freakish throw.
Speaker 9 (30:49):
By the way, with that is that just stupid? Like
that was just a stupid throw and.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
All you guys, you guys have seen this throw, right,
so it's like sixty five sixty six yards in the air,
but he like stumbled to has no legs underneathing it
away and he and it's on a dime on a
dime on a dime.
Speaker 9 (31:07):
That was freaky man like. And there's other things he's
got to clean up. But my thing on young quarterbacks
is you want to have those moments you can dream
on and say, Okay, this is yah. We got to
get you know, a little more consistent and a little
more dialed in, but we know we can do as
a runner. And the arm stuff is ridiculous. And I
think he's with a really good coach to develop him
in Shane Steichen. So I know they didn't win that ballgame,
(31:30):
but I would have come away from that as a
Colts fan saying, Okay, I think we got a chance
to be solid this year. It tans to be pretty good,
maybe playoff team, but if this guy can tap into
it and become more consistent and just keep getting better,
like this could be a pretty fun ride with this dude.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Kirk Cousins is going to throw for six thousand yards.
Last year he did not look good and then last weekend,
what do we think, is it you know, rust coming
off an injury, new team works itself out, or is
it is it age coming up some injury, and this
is kind of the path that he's on.
Speaker 9 (32:03):
I think we got to wait to make any determination there.
But he can't move, and it's tough to say, you know, well,
you know, hey, he's just a pocket passer. He doesn't
need to move. Well, you do need to move. You've
got to be able to move the launch point. Mike
Commlin talked about that. You know, this week they're playing
against the team, and he said, we won't have the
luxury of knowing where the launch point is going to
(32:24):
be every play like they did last week with Kirk Cousins.
So your paththress can get comfortable and get in a
rhythm and know where you're going to be. That becomes
a major problem. And then not being able even I
think Nate Tyce might have posted this, somebody posted it.
You know, when you can't even carry out your play
action fakes, you're never going to hold the backside into
the run games. So that's usually a person you don't
(32:47):
account for having to block because he's got to contain
the quarterback if he boots. But if they have absolutely
no respect that you'll ever pull the ball. TJ. Watt
is just screaming down the line and making tackles. So
that lack of mobility, that's that's something that's he's got
to either find the mobility or they have to trust
(33:07):
him more to do some of those things, or it's
going to be very difficult.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
You're the best man, DJ, great stuff. As always. Appreciate
you joining us, and I wish you guys played in
Green Bay. We can see you this year. In the meantime,
we'lld you have to listen to you on the radio.
Thanks for joining us.
Speaker 9 (33:23):
Thanks Buddy. Remind you too that Tatis won the game
for us last night. Thanks.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
I'll make sure to remind him. I just casey he's forgotten.
Dana Jeremiah joining us.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Cause we got to run to meet in Atlanta and
there's beer in techsar Kenna Stout Gottleib Show, Fox Sports Radio.
How did you guys have seen this movie? Chase too?
I'm sure you've seen it.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Correct, Smoking the band O? Yeah, oh yeah, I've seen it.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
But it used to be on replay on on Uh,
you know, non sports days on TNT all the time,
TV or TBS. Maybe, Sam, have you seen Smoking the
band I have not really this. Yeah, I'm sure Buyer
hasn't either.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
No, I did when I was a kid.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
But okay, do you know the premise of it? Sam?
Speaker 5 (34:23):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (34:24):
Yeah? I think so?
Speaker 5 (34:25):
What is it?
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Wait?
Speaker 7 (34:29):
No, I'm confusing Smoking the Bandit and Dukes of Hazzard
are not related, are they?
Speaker 9 (34:33):
No?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
No, okay, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
I don't Okay. So there used to be a law,
okay that you couldn't take Coors beer and take Cours beer.
I think it was east of the Mississippi, right, And
there was beer in Texas, Cana, Texas, and big Enis Burdette.
(35:00):
I forget how much money he paid him whatever to
illegally go in only like twenty four hours or forty hours.
They had to drive from Atlanta to text our canna,
steal the beer, and drive back. And the bandit, which
is which was Burt Reynolds of late Burt Reynolds character,
ran what's called blocker right. He'd a black trans am
(35:21):
and he would attract the cops and then the snowman
would drive the semi which had the truck. So that's
weird that actual used illegal to take beer East the Mississippi.
A Coors Beer East the Misissippi.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
It's all laid out in the lyrics pretty much, so
I kind of did know that.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
I think I did know that.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Then, correct, Let's get to the press. The press Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. If somebody wants to tell
us why that beer log existed, I would love to know,
love to know. The show was sponsored by Draft Kings.
Stay tuned because you hear more about DraftKings and all
has offered throughout the show. DraftKings. The Crown is yours,
(36:00):
dann by what he.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
Got, Doug, I got one quick thing to say about
Jerry Reid. I remember watching those movies when I was
younger and seeing those movies, so I was familiar with
Jerry Reid. But I really became familiar when he appeared
on Alice and would see episodes of Alice that Jerry
Reid was on. I don't think he was on a
bunch of them, but he would be on certain sitcoms.
(36:23):
I think he was on Mama's Family, remember that one
with Vicky Lawrence. Yes, but Jerry Reid was a bit
of a television star as well, so I remember, Oh, yes,
I don't.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Think Jerry Reid.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
By the way, Sam was a snowman. That was his callson.
Do we have call signs for alwalkie talkies? We need call.
Speaker 6 (36:44):
Signs the rapid radio is only one was designated to
the anchor room. We don't have specific ones for anchors,
so you're gonna don't have your own.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
No, I was not.
Speaker 5 (36:55):
I was.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
I'm calling damn Meta right now.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
I was.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Hold.
Speaker 6 (37:00):
One was designated to the anchor room. They were all
taken up.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Everybody Again, we need a walkie talkie in the anchor room.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
We need a wrapping radio. Rapid.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
We need a rapid radio. Comeback.
Speaker 6 (37:13):
We've got a developing story in Major League Baseball. We
are on no hitter watch in Toronto. Bowden Francis of
the Toronto Blue Jays is not allowed to hit so
far through seven innings of work against the New York Mets.
Mets are in the thick of that playoff race. But
again being no hit right now by Bowden Francis of
the Toronto Blue Jays. I have to admit I was
(37:34):
not very familiar with Francis's game. But here's this is amazing.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Oh I think you're doing O'Neil no, no, we got
a no hitter in Toronto come back.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
A month ago, he was basically converted to a starter.
He had been a reliever, but now as a starter.
This is him. This is performance is since he's been
a starter. Five innings at three hits, seven innings allowed
one hit, seven innings allowed three hits, eight innings allowed
one hits. That was against the Angels, seven innings allowed
(38:07):
one hit, and then in this last downing against the
Phillies last week, went six and allowed six hits. That's
nasty comeback, but in three of his previous six starts
he had thrown one hit baseball and is now throwing
a no hitter against the Mets.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Six outs to go for that no no in Toronto.
Speaker 6 (38:27):
Deshaun Watson released a statement through his attorney deny I'm
that he sexually assaulted a woman in Houston in twenty twenty.
His attorney, Rusty Harden, said that they'll fight those allegations
in courts.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
In that civil suits.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
Oh, Rusty Harden, remember him? Miss Rodgrick Clemmons right, Roger
Clemons right, this case will be is worse than the
Duke case. That's what he said right in this.
Speaker 6 (38:48):
Case and your Christian McCaffrey update, Kyle Shanahan says, you'll
be limited in practice with that achilles and calf injury,
an ankle injury.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Doug back to you dress, get out there and pressed.
That was the press.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Or reminder our
podcast to be up top of the hour. Okay, can
download that podcast. And Coors beer was not allowed to
sold to east the Mississippi River in nineteen seventy due
to distribution laws. Many states had tric regulations concerning the
sale of alcohol. Who knew?
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Who knew?
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Now you can buy Coors Beer wherever. I'm smoking men
and he's going to need a new, new new storyline.
Stuck gotlib show
