has offered throughout the show. DraftKings, the crown is yours. Uh.
Pretty good sports weekend. We got upsets in college football,
upsets in the NFL. Bookmakers made a mint because people
bet the favorites, especially the Cowboys, and the Cowboys reminded
us that they're the Cowboys. But we like to do
(01:00):
this every Monday. We kind of go around the room
give us our give each other our thoughts on what
we loved from the weekend, what we hated from the weekend.
We call it love and hate.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
What did you love? God, I love you and what
did you hate?
Speaker 4 (01:13):
These Claire Hays.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Do Do Do Do Do? Loo Stuck Gottlieb Show. You're
on Fox Sports Radio, Dan Byron, Jason Stewart. I was
Sam and myself. What I love from the weekend. There's
so much to love, so much to love. I love
(01:40):
social media. That was gonna fire, Brian Kelly until they
came from behind and beat South Carolina. Love that a lot. Uh,
just the overreactive nature to first half scores. I find
that to be absolutely fascinating. But I think what I
love the most is the fact that and that even
in a win, even when Colorado still showed their arses.
(02:06):
So Colorado who took on Colorado State last year incredibly
physical football game, and Colorado State at times to the
point of being being after the whist so being a
little bit late, a little bit a little bit dirty,
but had a chance at home for a remake and
they said, hey, this is We're not about the hype.
Colorado's about thehype, and Colorado came in and smacked him around,
beat him twenty eight to nine. And afterwards, should Or Sanders,
(02:29):
who had a spectacular game four touchdowns now interceptions, was
shaking hands with people, and Braden Fowler Nicolsi, who's the
quarterback for Colorado State, who had said like, hey, it's
about not about followers whatever. He didn't play well, they
got beat and he went up to shake Shaudor's hand,
(02:51):
and should Or wouldn't shake his hand because he says, yeah,
I don't f with you. I don't f with you.
That may be cool to some people, but like the
guy Legit had his helmet off, looked in the eye
and offered you a good game. And again it just
continues to show this is what's being coached and allowed
(03:11):
at Colorado and if you think it's about anything more
than that, then you're in denial of the fact that
nobody behaves that way. What do you got there, Jase Doo.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Doug.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
I love watching Caleb Williams struggle, and I know it's
not really his fault. It's kind of his old man's fault.
So for those that don't know, Carl Williams is Caleb's father.
Carl Williams also represents Caleb, and over the past year,
Carl tried to make us think that Caleb was going
(03:47):
to be a generational guy who was going to change
the paradigm in the NFL and how business was done
by quarterbacks and top picks. Remember Carl Williams uh tried
to get a team to give his son equity and ownership.
No one's ever done that, no one ever will. It's
(04:09):
against the rules, but he tried for it. But that
was just kind of the sentiment of my kids different.
This guy's gonna change the game. You don't know what
you're in for. And then he also, you know, had
some like some games that he played around the combine.
You know, there was a bunch of there was a
bunch of things where he went on GQ and said,
(04:33):
you know, there's there's a curse to be in the
first overall pick because you go to a bad team
and I might not even we might not even come
in coming out after this year. And I was just
put off by the entire framing of it. And it
ends up that Caleb Williams is just another quarterback who
struggles against defense, is trying to stop you in the
NFL nothing special after two games, I don't think there's
(04:56):
gonna be anything too special. Maybe he'll be above average,
but I just love that he's not a paradigm shifter,
he's not a game changer. He's just another guy. So
I'm going to continue to root for him to fail
because of his dad. Carl Williams.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Okay, what about you there, Wow Iowa Sam.
Speaker 6 (05:17):
Well, you know I have to love something Iowa related
every Monday here on the Doug Gottlieb Show. It's not
going to be the Iowhaw Gys rushing for two hundred
and eighty four yards on windless Troy and they're come
from behind victory. No, it's not going to be that.
It's going to be Caitlin Clark's weekend. Friday Night, they
did lose the game against the Aces, but she set
(05:39):
the record for assists assists in a season by any player,
and then Sunday, in a one point win over the Mystics,
she set the record for points by a rookie in
a season. So she has been collecting records left and right.
They're going to finish with at least a five hundred record.
Oh and she set a new personal best with thirty
(06:01):
five points in that win over the Mystics, last home
game for them, so really putting on a show for
that final home crowd, that final home game this season.
One more to go, they could clinch a winning record.
They're already in the playoffs in the sixth seed. So
a hell of a weekend for Caitlyn Clark. I haven't
forgotten about her. She's still setting records. She is all
(06:22):
that in the bag of chips.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
How does the WNBA work, guys? Since I might pay attention,
this year is like three game five game series started off.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Best of three to start out. They're all at the
higher seeds court, right or no? The first two are
at the higher seeds court, and then I think the
game three would be at the road team. I think
that's how I brich.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
It's the idea that buyer didn't have to look that
up and he already knew it was very impressive.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
Incredibly, their final game is the nineteenth and then they
start in the playoffs already on the twenty second Sunday,
so they jump right into this and they're the fevers.
Playoff window could just be shut really quick. I mean,
it's it's only three game it's only three games series,
so it could be over before I even know it.
But we shall see coming up Sunday.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Buyer, there are no more magical words in sports than
these two words. Game three, that's what you say in
the first round of the WNBA playoffs? Does that game?
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Nothing?
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Nothing's as exciting as That's like hockey guy, Nothing is
as exciting as.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Yes, it's the old rubber match. But it is weird
that it if the fever split, they would get game
three at home. It's just totally totally back. Yeah, it's
kind of wild, all right. Uh, I know. It wasn't
a great day for the Denver Broncos. Their uniforms again,
just man, like, why are the Broncos when they try
(07:51):
to do something new, it just doesn't Resonate didn't look
great and Bonnicks didn't look great yesterday. But what was
great it was a clip that was circling went viral
on social media when bo Nix was asked about the
interception that he threw in the end zone as the
Broncos were driving for points. Here was that exchange. Can
(08:12):
you take us through the interception in.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
The end zone? Uh yeah, chop back to the other team.
So good.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
He was struggling. They had a big play to Josh
Reynolds to set him up and then couldn't take advantage.
But yeah, it is great and it may seem like
a bit snarky, but just the delivery of it, I
just thought was great. And I think a lot of
people got use out of it on social media, all
(08:47):
with the same joke, which I didn't love, but it
was the SoundBite is just magnificent. Plus it's only six seconds,
so it's great.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
Did you guys see that the three starting rookies this
year have thrown for exactly zerouchdowns in three games? And
then add that to it, the number of passing touchdowns
is down considerably after two weeks. You know, there's a
lot of theories about, you know, the rookie quarterbacks coming in,
(09:16):
the new head coaches. I just think it kind of
adds to this the decline of the product of the
NFL and US being in Zuopa. But interesting, right, how
do we how do we explain the passing touchdowns being
down like, what's forty eight percent from the last couple
of years after week two?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I think it's that they have you not nailed a
little bit, which is you know, so many teams have
chosen to not do They do very little in the offseason,
then they do very little live stuff in the preseason,
and it looks like that. And generally defenses are ahead
of offenses anyway, but especially so now it's just not sharp.
(09:58):
And for the rookie quarterbacks, you know, we've gotten on
this thing where you're like, well, you're gonna start them
in week ten, so why not start them in Week one?
This is why you don't start them in week one.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Carrier rhads my partner again on Sundays, Fox Sports Radio
five Eastern says he also thinks that you're seeing a
lot more too deep coverage. Yep, you're not saying these
bigger plays defenses not I mean outside of Minnesota and
then with the Dolphins did in Week one, but there
was a busted coverage with the Seahawks and Patriots that
(10:29):
allowed DK Metcalf to get a fifty six yard touchdown.
But that's a busted coverage. So that was his opinion
on why we've had some of the lower numbers as well,
kind of what Pat Mahomes went through a couple of
years ago, and we're like, what's wrong with Patrick mahomes.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Like they're just they're in cover two the whole time. Man,
They're in cover two the entire time, making you, you know,
make it stay in front anyone else. Let's get to
all we hated for the weekend. Jason Stewart, This one's
right up your alley.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
You know. I woke up on a Saturday. I love Saturdays.
I just I like waking up on a Saturday because
you got two full days of nothing to do and
had my coffee, and all of a sudden, a notification
comes through. I think it was Ian Rapperport telling us
that Tua Tongue Vali looa if that's how he says
last name, has no plans to retire. According to Tua,
(11:27):
he does not plan to retire, which is kind of
a gut punch. I want to say, Iowa Sam made
this comparison last week.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Maybe not.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
It's kind of like when President Biden kept telling us
that he's not stepping down, that he's going to stay
in the race, and then everyone's like, well, I think
the last person who should be making decisions is someone
who's mentally compromised, like our current president, and I feel
the same way about Tua. It seems like this should
be a family decision, like a parent's very close family decision,
(11:59):
as a a twol of just saying I'm a football player.
These things happen. And the one thing I'm really getting
sick and tired of, Hey, everyone knows it's a risk.
When you sign up for this, you know it's a risk. Yeah,
you could say that about like leg injuries and whatnot,
But when you're scrambling your brain. I think that that
(12:20):
you got to take this a little bit more serious.
Because I heard a Peyton Manning analogy over the weekend.
You know, after he got his next surgery, he was
told that he want one bad hit and he could
be paralyzed for life. And I'll say this, this is
not a neck injury. This is a head injury, brain injury.
I think we should take it a little bit more serious.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
It is, but I do I don't know. Did you
see Darren Ravel's.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Post dot how much he's gonna miss or make or no?
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Just if he says he might retire. If he makes
the call to retire, they they don't have to pay
him nearly as much money. If a specialist says he
needs to retire, then he gets all his money, is
that right?
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Wow, it's all logistics and legalities. But yeah, you can't
get there that want to. I want to end this
career and move on. You're right, He's gotta gotta gotta
toe the line when it comes to that, all right.
I hated how the Giants lost yesterday to the Washington Commanders,
(13:22):
and I think we are focusing on the Commanders making
seven field goals because they know how to handle their
kicking situation where the Giants didn't. And Graham Gano popped
up on the injury report late in the week. The
Giants could have promoted a practice squad kicker to the
active roster in case something happened with Gano, and what
(13:45):
do you know, Graham Getoh got hurt on the opening
kickoff and the Giants were basically without a kicker for
the entire game. They tried to have their punter kick
an extra point on the first attempt. It didn't go well.
From that point on, they decided to not kick anything again.
They on fourth down when they had to, they went
for two when they scored touchdowns, and they were ill
prepared and Graham Gnall had a quat or a groin
(14:08):
injury prior to the week and then during the game
suffered a hamstring injury. Fact of the matter is the
Giants couldn't kick field goals or extra points, which put
them at a huge disadvantage in this game against Washington.
But Brian Daboll, the head coach, who was fully responsible
for this and says as much at the end of
(14:29):
this had this exchanged with a reporter yesterday about their
kicking situation.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
I'm going to start.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
Your reasoning for only having one kicker after today.
Speaker 8 (14:37):
Heck as we thought ground would be okay and got
hurt or chasing Donna a hamstring?
Speaker 4 (14:42):
You didn't orders growin? He heard his hamstring.
Speaker 9 (14:44):
But Brian, is it Are you saying that you can't
hurt your hamstring running with favoring your growin?
Speaker 2 (14:50):
I'm out a doctor.
Speaker 9 (14:52):
Is that part of the deal that you have to
You know that it is a risk. You had the
same thing mast year with him, like he came in
with an injury. You're taking a risk that it could
get reinjured. Why not have it?
Speaker 3 (15:03):
I mean, anybody can get injured.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Jordan's so, but again.
Speaker 8 (15:06):
He has again he was chasing, he was I got you,
he was chasing a kickoff return he pulled his hamstring
and not making excuses.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Whose decision wasn't not to Yeah, we thought he was
We thought he was good. He thought he was good.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Yours or all the decisions that are made our.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Mine immediately prior to him not making excuses, he gave
an excuse, and I just they should have won yesterday.
The stats say Washington dominated everything, but they kept him
out of the end zone. The Giants had an opportunity
to win. Yamlik Neighbors dropped the key fourth down, But
it was just I always say coaching malpractice, and the
(15:45):
Giants were not prepared yesterday. They're not going to win
a lot of games this year. Yesterday was a game
that they could have stolen Washington and they didn't, and
it was their head coach's fault.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Good I with him, all right.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
I hate that the Minnesota Vikings are winning football games.
And part of that is, of course, because part of
that hatred is, of course because UH baked in there
because I am a Packers fan.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
But really that's not the reason.
Speaker 6 (16:17):
The reason I hate the Vikings are winning is because
I picked the Vikings and our office studio a prediction sheet.
I picked the Vikings as the worst team in the NFL,
and that was an idiot, I know. Listen, Yeah, I
could have gone chalk, I could have gone with the Panthers,
I could have gone with the Patriots. I wanted to
go against the grain a little bit, and I picked
(16:38):
the Vikings as the worst team because I didn't believe
in Sam Donald. And there's a lot of Sam Donald
people who are there's a lot of people who back
Sam Donald here at Fox Sports Radio. I'm the villain
and I gotta wear this now. I gotta eat crow.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
You don't well, you don't know football. And I can
say that because I know football because I picked the
Saints to be the worst team. So so and look
at what they're doing. Dumb, Sam, A dumb pick by you.
That was just stupid. It was let's admit it, it was dumb.
With all those weapons.
Speaker 6 (17:05):
Yeah, I didn't think Sam Donald could get it done,
and so far he's getting it done. They're two to zero,
and so as long as they keep winning, I'm going
to continue to look like a schmo. And uh, you
know what, I'm not mister whiteout. I'm not going to
go onto that sheet and I'm not gonna, you know,
take some white out and blot out my prediction. I'm
just praying and hoping every week that the Vikings ultimately
meet their downfall and that Sam Donald stops playing like
(17:29):
a competent NFL quarterback, because right now he is and
it's making me look terrible.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Guys, could we settle something? I played this observation yesterday
that as Colin Cowherd's taking credit for being the only
guy who has is still standing believing Sam Donald, Doug
Gottlieb repeats on this show that he's the last stakeholder
and Sam Donald. Daniel Jeremiah came on last Wednesday and
(17:53):
said he's among the last stakeholders and Sam Donald. And
then we just heard TJ. Huschmanzada last hour Sam that
he's always believed in Sam Donald. So who is it?
And maybe the number of people that have lost faith
in Sam Donald is not as exaggerated as we may
have thought.
Speaker 6 (18:12):
I must be the only guy who is skeptical skeptical
of Sam Donald because Rich Davis of Covine and Rich,
the show that immediately follows this one, he is all
about Sam Darnald him too.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
My god, this keeps growing.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
List this Sam Donald, love in this building is really
is just seeping out of the cracks.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
But now, but now is it recent love or has
it been loved for the last seven years?
Speaker 6 (18:31):
You know, I would say with Rich I don't want
to speak on his behalf, but he believes.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
He believed. He's a big Niner fan, he's a.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Big Niner guy. But he thinks that this is gonna work.
And he thought that before the season started, and I
did not. I think, listen, we're only two games in.
Let's see if the wheels can fall off.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Well, I mean if they had, if JJ McCarthy was there,
they would trade him and you know, get a second
round pick right now, right, but try to trade Sam Donald,
I think, right.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
And it's nothing personally against Sam Darnald watching him at USC.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
You're you're fine, Yeah, it's really.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
He's he's finally got a situation where it's working for
and Doug, I'm glad you said that because your point
that you just made about if JJ McCarthy was healthy
or whatever, it was a point that I made when
McCarthy went down. This is actually the best thing to
happen for the Vikings. Sam Donald doesn't have to look
over his shoulder. It's his job. If he succeeds, awesome,
Now you've got a good problem on your hands. If
he stinks, awesome, JJ McCarthy's going to be your starting
(19:26):
quarterback next year because there's no time to waste. So far,
so good for the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Okay, can I get to what I Yeah? Sure, because
there was a lot, But I think I think I
hate the most is like again, I'm a Charger fan,
and I knew people with the Chargers and they would
always tell me, like everybody in the league knows that
the Chiefs get crazy calls at home, like it's it's
(19:54):
kind of like a it was it. It was something
to anger people. Then it was like you almost laugh
at it. Now you're just like what the hell? And
then yesterday, you know, tremendous football game and an interception
that should have won the Bengals. The game is overturned
on a DPI, which I just I don't know any
(20:15):
of us had thought that was dpi? Did any of
us think that was the DPI?
Speaker 4 (20:19):
There was contact. I did not think it flag should
be called.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Right, So like, look, I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I
don't think the NFL is wanting for any one team
to beat another. I don't think that's actually good for business.
And they've won plenty, so at some point we'll get
to the Kansasity Chiefs fatigue. But it's like, I'm just
so irritated. It hates so much watching games of Kansas
(20:45):
City because it does feel like it's on repeat. It
feels like fog Allenfield House and Arrowhead Stadium are one
and the same, and that everyone who goes there walks
away with thee. I mean, you're playing five on eight.
That's what it feels like. That's what it feels like
for the Chiefs. You're playing aginst the Chiefs is that
you know, you've got to overcome the fact that they
(21:06):
can hold, they can line up in the backfield when
they're not supposed to, and in this case, if anything happens,
they get bailed out by a flag. I just I
don't like it. I don't like how it looks for
the league. I don't like it watching it. I don't
think it's necessarily fair and equitable. I don't think it's
because the league mandate. I just think it's because one
(21:26):
of the best teams have a tendency to get a
benefit of doubt. But I also think that crowd, like anything,
it can intimidate people and can make people miss things.
But god, they can miss things in kan City's favor
a lot. That is kind of hat. That's what is.
Hater is gonna hate, sure, sure, and that's love and hate.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Doug gottliebschell, it's Fox Sports Radio. I met this little
curly curly Do do do Do? Do Do do? Monday
(22:23):
night football matchup Eagles versus Falcons. Atlanta surrendered one hundred
and thirty seven yards rushing and lost of the Steelers
last week, and then Philadelphia comes to down Saquon Barkley
one hundred and thirty two yards totally the opener against
the Packers, including three touchdowns. Of course, remember they were
in Brazil, but they've gotten a long time to kind
of get their body clocks set. On the DraftKings app
(22:43):
right now, you can get Saquon Barkley over seventy four
and a half yards rushing right, pretty obvious that the
folks in Vegas think Atlanta's going to stack the box
and make Jalen Hurts beat him in the air.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
In the air.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
It's, I don't know, a fascinating game tonight, but it's
it's interesting. You know, we saw the Eagles and they
looked Okay, they weren't great, but they did they were
able to run the ball a ton can they run
the ball against Falcons? And then of course, you know,
how how different does the you know, the tush push
look with a new center, What does it look like
(23:23):
on the road. Kirk Cousins massively improved and Kirk Cousins
as bad as he was last week, and he mobules,
he looked Remember now it's prime time Kirk Cousins where
oftentimes he's failed. Oftentimes he's failed. Stuck out leave show
here on Fox Sports Radio. Bengals are one two, but
(23:46):
two incredibly close losses. Probably should have won the week before,
and then you you lose another close one where I
do I do I disagree with the DPI penalty, sure,
but I don't also point out that the Bengals had
the ball with the lead, chance to extend that lead
and you know, seven plays and got nothing out of it.
(24:09):
So they've had plenty of opportunities in both the past
two games against Chiefs playoffs last year and this year
in the regular season in the fourth quarter to continue
to get points. So it's let's not say it's all
the defense or it's all the officiating. Sometimes it's their
inability to capitalize on a late lead. Here's Spigel's head
coach Zach Taylor on Joe Burrow's performance moving forward.
Speaker 7 (24:32):
So we know what this feels like, we know it's
a long season. We know we can get ourselves out
of it there, stick together, get our emotions in check
with an extra day this week, come back, Where do
you play great game in front of our crowd. I
expect to be a great crowd.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Here's Joe bur We're.
Speaker 7 (24:46):
In great shape, okay, and so Joe play do I
can we expect our passing game to perform.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Here's Joe Burrow on the Jamar Chase penalty.
Speaker 8 (24:55):
Just trying to de escalate the situation, you know, hopefully
hoping that that I'm not entirely sure what was said
or who through the flag, but you know, usually yeah,
that was Uh, that's all I gotta say about that.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Yeah, that one is.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
That.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
I mean, look, I think that here's one of the things.
And it's the same with Kansas in basketball. If you
go in with the idea in mind that you're gonna
get screwed, you're gonna feel like you're getting screwed. The
problem is in Kansas City, Man, it just feels like
they get a couple per every per every game. And
I don't know how you get out of that feeling
(25:45):
other than to you got to keep kind of pushing
through when you get a late lead. And look, Burrow
through a bad pick. Was that in the end zone
or was right around the in zone? You know, through
a bad pick? And that was in the fourth quarter.
So it's not like he's been perfect. It's sounded like
they were up five touchdowns and the refs, you know,
took points off the board. But there were a couple
(26:05):
of calls that didn't go their way that were game changing,
backbreaking calls.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
In addition to.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
The fact that they didn't capitalize when they had to
leave and had the ball and the defense did get
a stop. I still think they'll be fine. The Steelers
are two to zero, I'm not convinced there's anything special
by the Steelers. The Browns aren't very good because they
have no offense. The Ravens are owing to, the Bengals
are owing to and Joe Burrow was remarkably better, markedly
(26:37):
better than he was last week. This week, I would
expect the same or even more moving forward, Dan, you
were going to say some about the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Yeah, just you know, and you know Jason at his
tweet about Justin Fields, and it's funny with Cherry Dulac
last week of the Pittsburgh Post, Caasette reported that Justin
Fields is going to start against the Broncos and was
going to start next week. Again, it's the Chargers coming
up this Sunday now in week three, and then you
see what Justin Fields has done, which Jason is full
(27:08):
aware from the comments that everybody made. But it's funny
because Arthur Smith is the head coach or excuse me,
the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And I think
you're right, Doug in your assessment of the Steelers. I
don't think that they're a great team for what they've
needed to do. In the first two weeks. Fields has
been very very limited, and you just wonder if that's
(27:32):
what Justin Fields needed to do, And if Russell Wilson
ends up being healthy, would Arthur Smith even open things up,
or if they're just okay with being what they are
right now. And I don't know which way it shifts,
because I do think that Russell Wilson does do more
for them in the air game. But if they do
feel comfortable winning this way, I don't know how far
(27:55):
it's going to get them. I just wonder if they
just end up sticking way. I don't think they should.
I think that Russell Wilson still should get a shot
for how limited their passing game does feel with Justin Fields,
but with Arthur Smith's reputation, and I don't think Mike
Tomlin would necessarily want to be, you know, veer away
from a winning recipe as he used air quotes. Yeah,
(28:18):
I don't, I don't. I'm really curious and how the
Steelers move forward in this. I'm with you. I don't
think they're a great team, but right now, no.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
And you know, tom look, they know who they are.
That's probably what you're saying right now. Keep in mind
they played the Falcons and the Broncos. Those are two
teams and I think both of us would be surprised
if they're in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Fair, but now, at the start of the year, I
thought the Falcons would be better. But it's an opening game.
But yeah, the Broncos obviously were a work in progress.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Okay, so yeah, I mean again, it's I think Arthur
Smith sticks with Justin Fields because Arthur Smith, end of
the day, likes a mobile quarterback and and I just
nothing about how Russell Wilson plays, says that's how you
should play as an older player, holds the football longer,
(29:05):
doesn't read the field great, you know, not a guy
who's been mobile that's not nearly as mobile anymore. Whereas
Justin Fields has plenty of flaws. I don't think he's
I think neither of us, any of us think he's great.
But if you tell him winning out, just run it
and then we'll punt it and play to our strength.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (29:24):

Speaker 4 (29:52):
Let's get to Dan Buyer with the press the press, Buyer, Buyer,
what do you got, Doug? Some news from college basketball,
not the Green Bay Phoenix, but it was made official today.
(30:16):
Reported last week Connor McCaffrey joining the staff of fad
Mata at Butler.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
Well, remember Patrick, his brother transferred there, and then Jack,
their younger brother, has has committed to going there. He
might be the best of all of them. Connor, of course,
is former starter at Iowa's Dadey coach Iowa and a
boyfriend of boyfriend of Kaitlyn Clark.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
They all want a reason to be in Indiana.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Back home in Indiana.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
It's a McCaffrey's back home, and the Clarks at the
place I love.
Speaker 6 (30:54):
And France just stuck in Iowa City, right, just he's
stuck there with a pretty good three point three point
shooter in Peyton Sandford. So that's definitely On a Monday,
after Week two of the NFL, I'm like, let's start
out with some college big ten hoops.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
Let's do it ready, all right? I did mention the
college football head coach saying something that was pretty interesting.
That was head coach Steve Sarkisian, who not only downplay
this team being at number one in the latest eight People,
overtaking Georgia for that top spot, but trying to downplay
any sense of a quarterback controversy as Quinn Ewers has
that oblique injury. Sarkisian did say that yours is questionable
(31:34):
to face Louisiana Monroe because of that injury. But when
asked today on how you handle your quarterbacks and how
you handle Arch Manning in this situation, Sarkisian said, quote,
I don't do anything. Arch is just another guy in
our team. And the reason I'm able to do that
is because that's who arches every day. He's the selfless teammate.
He cares about the guys on the team. He cares
(31:56):
about Quinn. They've got a great relationship. YadA YadA. I
don't address with the team. I don't address it with
the team. He's just part of the team. End quote.
I added the YadA, YadA, YadA to it, But you
get the you get the point. Arts just seems like
one of the guys in Austin.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
He does and he's doing He's done a good job.
I mean, look, I think I think yours Yours has
proven to be worthy of his his hype when he
went to Ohio State. I'll be really interested to see,
you know, when he comes back healthy, how easy that
transition back to him is.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
Yes, I think that is. We know what's going to
happen after this year. Yours is going to go to
the NFL Draft, which actually think is the bigger question
because now he's hurt again. And when you're starting to
look at the quarterback situation around the NFL team, you
already have teams who are looking for the next quarterback
and quinn Ewers is going to be one of them.
And the injury history is one of the in the
(32:50):
pros and cons of quinn Ewers. I don't think there
are tons of cons, but injury history is one of them.
So I'm curious to see how that would affect things.
How about this in Kansas City. You may have heard
it in the update, but the Chiefs are bringing in
running back Kareem Hunt for a visit. This after Isaiah
Pacheco was injured in their win against Cincinnati. Of course,
(33:12):
Kareem Hunt once a member of the Kansas City Chiefs
but then released following a domestic violence incident. Involving hunt.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Always interesting when can you as he was there in
Kansas City when that happened, and he has gotten a
second chance and he hasn't had another issue that we're
aware of with the law. But remember that was a different,
a little bit different era where they did take some chances.
But there's a guy who knows the system cost them
nothing and just gives them a body to take a
pounding during the regular season.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
Let's get an update from Jason Stewart on is Justin
Fields tweet yesterday that caused a ruckus retweeted by Daniel
Jeremiah and others. Jason, someone called you ugly in one
of those tweet tweets. What's the latest on the comments?
Speaker 5 (33:59):
Thank you, Dan. I'll take it from here. I sent
out the following tweet during the game last night. When
do Bears fans start asking if they could get Justin
Fields back? It's kind of, you know, ironic, sarcastic, but yeah.
Daniel Jeremiah quote tweeted it with a serious comment about
the interior offensive line, and then everyone in Chicago just
(34:20):
went nuts on me. I got comments like never, you
obviously know nothing about football, and then this guy, I'm
Jamis gets personally. He says, God, this take is as
ugly as your face. What geez, Sam, that seems a
little harsh, Jamis.
Speaker 6 (34:40):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
That it is as ugly as your face. I mean
you don't have a great face. You're a really personality guy.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
Jay, I disagree with that.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
You're saying he's hot.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
Yeah, Jason's a good looking guy. I will say my girlfriend.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
My sense of humor, Trump's most aspects about me.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
Thank you? Sounds hot? This sounds hot. How about a
stat passed along from good buddy Jimmy Schapiro bet Online.
Since the NFL went to a seventeen game schedule, twenty
one teams have started the season. Oh and two. How
many do you guys think have made the playoffs?
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Was it like eighteen percent?
Speaker 4 (35:22):
So we'll just give me a number between zero and
twenty one. Twenty one teams have started oh and two,
how many do you think made the playoffs? Five? Jason's
in with five, Doug, I'm gonna go six, six, Sam four.
The number may surprise you. Only two teams have made
the playoffs after anh and two start, even in a
(35:45):
seventeen game schedule. Nine and a half percent.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Right now, those two teams, who would they be? How
about Raiders and Bengals.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
I can't even remember who they are and we don't
have it in this sheet here, but this is not
good news for the Bengals, Colts or Bengals, Broncos, Colts, Giants, Jags, Panthers, Rams, Ravens,
and Titans. Correct. So there's at least you have that
going for you. Yeah, rough start. It's a long season,
but not that long. And that's the press.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
They get out there and pressed. That was the press.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
