Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug Gottli.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio app Welcome in
the News of the day yesterday is something that kind
of resonated with me, and I just I want to
talk about him this podcast. You know, I I talked
with some NFL scouts. I watched some of the Charger

(00:31):
game because I'm a Charger fan. I didn't get a
chance to watch it because I was at the Packer game.
And I've seen Bryce Young play a lot of football.
I've never seen him play so poorly as he played Sunday.
And it wasn't that he forced the ball in the traffic.
It wasn't the reads that guy shook. His confidence is gone.
And we've talked about this a little bit before in

(00:51):
the pod, definitely on the radio show. I you know,
everybody does their three something, three d's, three b's, three c's.
To me, when you're co are conditioning, you got to
be in great shape. You gotta have great culture, and
you gotta have confidence. And I don't know what's caused
Bryce Young to lose his confidence, but he doesn't have it,
and if you don't have it, you can't compete in

(01:12):
the nash FOOTBA League. He's shook and and there's a
lot of things that are hard to get back. That's
one of the hardest is your confidence. When that sucker
is gone, it's kind of sort of gone, just kind
of sort of gone. And you know, we have this
rush to playing guys immediately. They didn't have a good

(01:34):
enough roster around him. Well, it's rush to playing guys immediately.
Nobody takes into account the fact that you can ruin
a guy from playing it before he's ready. You know,
everybody wants everything now, now, now, now, now. Some things
you gotta wait for do you gotta wait for? But
whatever what's done is done. They played him too early.
They don't have very good players around him, and he's shook.

(01:58):
And when you don't have confidence, that's how you look.
That's how you look. So I don't know what the
answer is if we'll ever play for the Panthers again,
I mean I do. I think he'll have some time
and watch Andy Dalton and stepping away from him. Maybe,
But my guess he's he'll get one more chances here.
But that's real coaching. He's trying to find a guy
who can get his confidence back.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Let's hit the Fox says, and now.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
What does say?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Here's Colin Cowherd on the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Now let's talk Philadelphia, a very popular team. I'm actually
concerned about the state of Pennsylvania. You do realize if
you look at all the polling, you're going to decide
the presidential election. We need adults in the room here,
not throwing a tantrum every time you lose a football game, Folks,
Saquon catches the football, you're two and zero. You beat

(02:59):
a team. If he catches the football in Green Bay
that could win their division and Atlanta could win THEIRS.
Kirk Cousins is good. It happens. It's football. Your division's
a mess. Giants Washington don't look very good. Dallas is
typical Dallas roller coaster. You'll be fine, Now, Nick Sirianni's
not Andy Reid.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Who is?

Speaker 3 (03:15):
There's one people even complain this weekend about Kyle Shanahan.
Sean mcvayzo and two John Harbaugh zoh and two Yeah,
you don't have Andy Reid, but Aj Brown, your number
one receiver, did not play.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
That is a thing.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
You can defend Philadelphia much differently when Aj Brown's not
on the field for most of the game. You look
like the better team. You also have a very expensive offense,
and because of that there's some liabilities or weaknesses on
the back end. You know what you really are and
you should take pride in this. You're really the opposite
of the Steelers. You're great at quarterback. You spend your

(03:50):
money on offense, but you're not Probably don't trust your
defense to win a Super Bowl? Would you rather be
the Steelers who spend all their money on defense and
that quarterback room is just not good? Two and oh
start Yeah, check back in eight weeks.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I think the yes, they could have been to and oh,
but they very easily could be ohing too, because the
Packers had plenty of opportunities to beat them as well,
and of course Jordan Love got hurt. I think it's
more a couple of things. One, you had that game one,
or you had it in position to where it should
be really really difficult for Atlanta to come back and win,

(04:29):
and you didn't do it two. It just there's just
a lack of likability on any level for Nick Sirianni.
And then the last part is, you know, I know
a couple of years ago he was an MVP candidate,
probably would have wanted he didn't get hurt. But Jalen
Hurts is not better as a passer. He's just not
picky through is terrible. And so you know, it's like

(04:52):
there's a reason that he he was a second round
pick and it's starting to rear its head. And so
I I understand some of it was the offense and
the play calling of last year, and it does appear
a little be a little bit better. And obviously went
on and got a big time running back even though
he didn't catch that ball of the backfield. But I
also wonder if we're giving Jalen Hurts too much of
a pass. Here's Dan Patrick talking about Saquon Barkley was

(05:16):
scheduled to do a sponsored appearance on his show today.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
We were scheduled to have Saquon Barkley on, and as
soon as he dropped that ball, I said to myself,
probably not having Saquon Barkley on and we talked about
this in the final segment yesterday. If the Eagles happened
to lose that game, this is the tough part. You know,
Fritzy's booking people. We can get somebody or they have

(05:40):
a game the night before, and this is a sponsored booking.
So he was going to be on because he was
selling a product. And then I said this morning when
I came in, I said, it's probably wise if Saquon
doesn't join us. I understood it. I understood it because
you know, first well, if you're the sponsor and you're

(06:01):
paying him to endorse you, people aren't going to be
focusing on the product. They're going to be focusing on
the fact that Saquon is on a show right after
this drop, right after this loss, and he's selling something,
you know, to America.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
I've been doing this a long time, and we just
celebrated the twenty fifth anniversary of the Dan Patrick Show.
I could probably on one hand tell you the number
of times that I've heard from an athlete who had
to cancel. It's very very rare. You hear from an athlete,
now you might hear from a PR person. Now you

(06:39):
might hear from a sponsor, but Saquon texts the show
and said that he was sorry and that he'll do
his best to make it up to us.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yeah, look at it's classy the text. No one's ever
said anything less about Saquon. I still think you did
the appearance, especially now, especially now, but class act good dude.
But I don't. I don't think people care that much.
I just don't. I think you can making fun of
yourself being a human being, and you tell people that

(07:16):
you don't have to say like there's anything special about
you doing the appearance, but it would have been celebrated.
How you done it. Here's the bar and Brady Quinn
talking about David Tepper's role in the Bryce Young situation.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
Tepper said, you figure it out. Is there a quarterback
out there that's available, who can we try to use
to try to get a jump starts? It's that or
your ass, And I will not hesitate to replace your ass.
This is self preservation. But go ahead, you got it. Well,

(07:49):
it could be to a degree.

Speaker 6 (07:50):
I also think there's an element of maybe even David
Tepper taking accountability or coming to the realization that Bright Young.

Speaker 7 (08:01):
Isn't going to be able to do it at this level.

Speaker 6 (08:03):
And if you go back to last year, you know,
one of the reasons why I think there is, you know,
a firing and they kind of went their separate ways.
Had a lot to do with the fact of well,
who decided on Bryce Young as the number one overall pick?
Was it David Tepper? Was it the former coach? Their staff,
because it seemed as if there was a bit of

(08:25):
a divide.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yeah. I mean like, look, I we talked about this
in the radio show, and I mean it, I don't
know if we'll ever get him back. But Bryce Young
is not this bad at quarterback. Bryce Young has completely
lost his confidence. I mean, you lose your confidence. It's
just hard to play in the Nation Football League. Nothing

(08:50):
nothing more than that he has lost his confidence. It's very,
very difficult to play, very difficult to play that way.
And you know, obviously now everybody's playing the blame game,
and you have a new GM, you have a new coach.
I don't think that they're going to have any of
the blood on their hands, But real coaching is can

(09:11):
you get his confidence back? Maybe it's gone because he
looked like a shell of the player. I mean he couldn't.
It was like Chuck Knoblock throwing to throw in the
first base. That's how bad it was. And that has
nothing to do with your evl of him before the draft.
That's what the Fox said.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Say.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Let's find out what's annoying Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
What do you got dude?

Speaker 8 (09:53):
Hey, Doug, I'm annoyed by this For the listeners that
don't consume content on a daily basis, like I, I know,
I'm pretty sick about this. You can google Belichick Falcons
Manning Cast, so the a lot of the industry blogs
are doing this that Bill Belichick really had it in
for the Falcons last night. Because remember back in the

(10:15):
day when Arthur Blank said no thanks to Bill Belichick.
So Belichick's got an axe to grind with the Falcons,
and he was negative about the Falcons during the Manning
cast last night. And I think that's bullshit because, uh,
Bill Belichick has been ripping on everybody. I love this guy,
like he he goes negative a lot, and he doesn't
give a shit who hears it. If if you also

(10:37):
google Caleb Williams. Bill Belichick inside the NFL, he told
us what Caleb Williams would be before he became the
last two weeks of Caleb Williams, he said he was unrefined.
He said he wasn't accurate, that he saw nothing special
in the pregame, in the in the in the preseason
games against twos and threes, and what happened Caleb Williams

(10:58):
basically showed what he did so well. The Bill Belichick
negativity about the Falcons last night, I had nothing to
do with the Falcons. That had to do with him
giving his very raw opinion of what he sees on
the field.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Agreed, and look, his opinion is one that's won of
the Super Bowls and he's just more educated than you are.
I think I get this from people all the time,
where they think you have an extra grind because of
something that happened to me or whatever, when I just
I don't think that's how most successful people operate. They

(11:33):
just don't. I think that's how a lot of people
act and feel. But you're like more normal, regular people
as opposed to super high achievers like somebody like Bill Belichick.
I just don't like he can't stand the Jets organization.

(11:53):
How come he hasn't taken a shot to the Jets
organization because they're not part of the game and they
have present themselves as such. I agree with you.

Speaker 8 (12:02):
I love this so Bill Pelichick. Lazy blog writers who
think Bill Belichick has an extra grind that's most annoying today.
But we really do need to get to because we
can today because I want to play this.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Why are we doing this?

Speaker 7 (12:18):
I do.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Because we can.

Speaker 8 (12:24):
Kevin Garnett is a gift to us. In this particular segment,
this is him playing against the Wizards. Michael Jordan Wizards.

Speaker 7 (12:33):
We're still talking that shit. Yeah, I'm still talking, still
talking that shit. He was still skilled. It was just
health with him and I had to guard there. Motherfucker.
Motherfucker gave us forty I got like thirty eight out
of that shit too. Yeah, he was too driven. You know,
I ain't played the three in a minute, but Flip like, nah,
you're the only one that can go like we got
two guards on here, what the fuck we sate? No,

(12:54):
you're gon girl, like all right, cool, I ain't tripping.
Let's get it to so Hope.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Damn, what up?

Speaker 7 (13:00):
Hope? What up? Hope? Watch out Hope. They weren't even
in no triangle shit. He started making up the triangle ass.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
He was doing that.

Speaker 7 (13:08):
Send it by here, No watch out? What up Hope?

Speaker 2 (13:12):
That's awesome, so good. I can't play for you because
we can. That's it for the end of the Modus podcast.
