(00:40):
a good day by So this show begins every day

By the way, it's sponsored by Draft Kings. Stay tuned

(01:01):
because you'll hear more about DraftKings and all it has
to offer throughout the show. So we got some great sound.
Van Roethsberger talked about justin Fields. I want to get
to that. Do you guys hear? Jerry Jones went on
a went on a rant that was interesting. Also, Dion
Sanders is going the Trump route, right, blame the media

(01:21):
for the fact that his son's acting like.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
An a hole.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
That's always good. That's what you do. That's that's like,
this is the it's the new playbook for people, like
when somebody it's actually not a new playbook, but it's
the classic playbook of guy does something that not acting
the way he should act, and media is to blame

(01:45):
for set actions. So I think, obviously I'm uniquely positioned
to discuss this because I am, in fact, on Division
one men's had basketball coach. But the other part too,
it is I'm experiencing all of the things that coaches experience,

(02:09):
and it's kind of a cool one today. So we
changed plans a little bit and Green Bay is in
the Horizon League. The team that won the Horizon League
tournament last year was Oakland. Of course Oakland and Greg
Campy as the head coach. He's been there forever. They
beat Kentucky in the NCAA tournament, and so they're kind

(02:32):
of the talk obviously of the league, and they did
an amazing job last year. So we have conference Media
day was today, okay in Indianapolis at this really cool
arena at the Fairgrounds it's the Colsseumet at the Fairgrounds, Indianapolis.
So if you want to know how it went down,
like I got up, there's four or fifteen this morning,

(02:55):
four fifteen, took the dog out, got them all situated,
out him a little grub. I put him in his
little area where he could sleep and chill out and
hang out, and then headed to the airport. And we
have PJ is private jet. We're Pepe Private prop plane. Right.

(03:16):
That does that work for you?

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Do you like the.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Alliteration there, Jay Stu, You you're a big alliteration guy.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Sure, Yeah, that's three p's.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
It's school three p's the PPP Private prop plane. So anyway,
our twenty flight to Indy, and we were kind of
like ballers, only mid major ballers, right like you think
of you know PJ. You roll up, you're in a
private jet and then all of a sudden, you know,
you get off. There's an escalade waiting, and some guy

(03:48):
opens the door to the escalade and then you hop
in the escalade and they say, you know, mister Gottlieb,
there's some water there for you whatever. And you have
like a New York Times and maybe a Bloomberg and
then they take you to the arena and then they
do an entrance video and then you meet with throngs
of media. All right, so now that back just a
little bit, just a smidge, and we had the Dennis Harrington,

(04:10):
my starred director of basketball ops. That's dobo. If you
ever hear somebody called a dobo. He arranged ubers for
when we arrived. The uber was a little tight, a
little bit of a tight fit. K was rab four.
We get the videographer, we got two players, my two
players and me. We piled in women's team, women's coach.
They piled into their uber. Arrive again you think of

(04:31):
we roll up in an escalade and they opened the
door for you right there. N they let us off
kind of across the street. We had to find a
way around a fence, walk through the fairgrounds, into the arena,
did media day, met with all the other coaches and
our ESTEAM commissioner, took a bunch of pictures, did the interviews, radio, TV, whatever,
blah blah blah. And then and then back in the

(04:53):
uber back to the PPP that's private prop plane, back
to Green Bay. Stopped and got coffee and I'm here
with you Now that's a that's a that's a full
day for most people. It's a half day for your boy.
It's a half day for your boy.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, and it's really interesting to be on the other
side of the aisle, if you will. Like again, just
last year I did West Coast Conference Media to Day,
Mountain West Media Day, Packed twelve Media Day, Big twelve
Media Day. And now we're now I'm I'm the I
guess the subject of the questioning, does have any media

(05:35):
day questions you want.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
To ask me?

Speaker 5 (05:36):
I was hoping that we might be able to do
a little bit of ask the coach.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
There's a question the niece an answer, and the answer
is if only there was someone with the authority and
the wisdom to give us that answer.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
No, I'm the head coach.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
I get to set the schedule.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Hold on, let's ask the coach.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
We got to ask the coach early first segment of
the show. That's awesome. Yeah in the back you the
really really handsome gentleman with the smoking hot girlfriend. Uh,
mister Stewart from Fox Sports Trader, Yes, you had.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
A question, Doug are coach, So what is the what
is the burning question right now? In the Horizon League,
like what what is the hot topic among all of
the teams? Like what is the one question that all
the coaches are being asked.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
They're all being asked. I don't know what they're all
being asked. I'm for me, it's more the the work
work balance, how do you how do you do both?
And it's you know, what what is this? What are
you going to play? Like? What is it going to
look like? What is the experience going to be?

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Like?

Speaker 3 (06:46):
You know?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
But I would say the question that all the coaches
have is kind of what does college athletics has changed
so dramatically in the last five years, And next year
there is supposed to be a roster cap fifteen guys
next starting It hasn't been improved yet, but fifteen guys.

(07:06):
But you can split up scholarships, which you can't do now.
Right now you have thirteen scholarships. You can have as
many guys you want, but you only have thirteen and
they have to be full scholarships. Next year you can
break them apart and do everyone. You got a fifteen
roster cap, do what you want with it, and then
you know the settlement between the NCAA and the conferences
and the divide between the Power five and the non

(07:27):
power five and what that looks like and what the
future of college athletics. Those are more of the burning questions.
But in terms of what one question asked to all
these coaches, I just think it's probably there's so much change.
What can you expect? What do you know? And again,

(07:48):
I know a little bit about some of these players
because they all the teams have more players back than
we have back, but there's so much unknown. It's more
of just a getting to know you sort of thing.
Who's playing, how are you going to play? And who
are you heading into conference? Heading into the season.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
I gotta follow on that.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah, go ahead, you got to follow up.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Yeah, I get a question, let's ask the coach. So then, well,
I haven't looked at the futures for the league yet.
Who are the big contenders? I know you just said
that no one really knows anything about the league, but
like previewing, previewing the league, who are the two teams
that you're really shooting for?

Speaker 2 (08:29):
I mean, listen, Milwaukee's are are arch rival. It's also
a place that my my dad coached, and they beat
Green Bay twice last year. There's a little trash talk
in the papers between the coaches. Bart Lundy's the head coach.
He did a great job at Queen's College, who's now
Queen's University's a Division two coach. It's did a really

(08:51):
good job Milwaukee. So I'd say UW Milwaukee would be
one team and the other one is always going to
be Oakland Youngster has a coaching change, but they've been really,
really good, so maybe there's three. Those would be the three,
but IPFW is is very good. Wright State had a
coaching change, but they're pretty good. But I would say

(09:11):
I'm gonna go three. I'm gonna go h OAKLANDW Milwaukee,
Youngstown State.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Actually it's pronounced Miliwaukee.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Youngstown State. Really good nickname. Anybody anyone who
want to want to guess nickname, you get Penguins. There
you go, Thank you. Dan Byer Byer knows all the nicknames.
He's like me.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
Dan's a cheat code, he is.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
I'm he and I with that like Dan and I
have things. Obviously, his depth of knowledge of golf is
like a million times mine. The one place that we
do connect is college nicknames.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
And I think I was better about ten years ago.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
I feel like because there's so many additions to the
division one. Yeah, can you do the whole Horizon League conference?

Speaker 3 (09:59):
I probably not.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I think you're I think you're selling yourself short.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah, I'm actually on that. I don't know if this, I.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Don't know if this makes good radio. But I'm gonna
ask you real quick, don't look you ready?

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah? Yeah, I'll Oakland O gosh, Oakland.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
I know there's a literation with it.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
By the way, Uh, the Grizzlies, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
They are, but they're actually the Golden.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Grizzly Golden Grizzlies. Okay, yes, you.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Mentioned Young Sound State. That's the Penguins.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yeah, Right State Raiders. Yes.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Uh. By the way, does anybody know where Right State
is actually located?

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I know it's in Ohio. Yes, I think it's gotta
be in a red state. It's like I think it's self.
Is it around self of Dayton?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
So yeah, it's Dayton. It's basically in Dton. Okay, Yeah,
which is weird, right you'd think that Right State being
in would be in Dayton Dayton State. But anyway, our
nickname Green.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Bay Phoenix Okay, Middle Milwaukee Panthers Northern k they're the Norse.
They are. I do know that.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Purdue Fort wayn which used to be Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne,
not just produce Fort Wayne.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
I'm thinking, like it's like jaguars.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
I have a guess, Now that's that's that's it. That's
I E p U I, which now is I UI
MA Masterdons, Mastadont, Cleveland, Cleveland State Vikings. Robert Morris.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
I would say, like I'm gonna guess, I don't know,
like patriots or something like explorers.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
You guys want to I don't know, and you're going
with explorers and you're going with colonial colonials. I mean,
it's essentially the same thing, just a different word. Yeah,
I can imagine you're coming up with it, like, do
you guys want to do patriots? You guys want to
do explorers? Do you guys want to do let's do colonials.

Speaker 6 (11:49):
There's some exploration involved in that, for sure.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
There is, because why are they the I guess. I
know Robert Morris was a colonial, but it's not in
the colonies, so it's a weird nickname. Uh. Then there's
I U p U I, which is now I U I.
By the way, because p pulled out P being Purdue
Indiana University, Purdue Indiana University of Indianapolis, it's actually I

(12:11):
U Y. And then the last one is Detroit.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
They're the Titans.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
There you go, the Titans got to remember the Titans,
which of course kindred spirit with Jason Stewart, who's a
Titan's a cal State boarding Titan.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
Hashtag tusks up.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Oh wait, we got another question, I believe from mister Bayer.
Is there an ask coach, ask coach from miss.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Hold on, hold on, hold on the coach in the back.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Is there going to be a point in the season
where your dual role is no longer a topic of conversation.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
No, No, because it's different, it's unique, you know now,
I don't think so. I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Is that to benefit for your team? Or is do
you consider that a negative for your team? Because I
don't want to lead you in the question, but.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
No, it's a it's a great question in reality or
in the fact that it's sort of distracting to other
questions which could.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Be harder questions. I think it could be a gift
and a curse for you, okay, go, I think that
it takes pressure off of your players. If things aren't
going well.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Agreed, then it becomes about me.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
It's fine. Yeah yeah. And then if things are going well,
I wonder if you know the players will be getting
enough credit. That's what I'm curious about. I think that's
almost your job, isn't it. Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Yeah, yeah, I think that was probably the part today,
which is like everybody gets so caught up in the
one to talk about that stuff, or not having coached before,
not having coached in college. Yeah, that it's like, Hey,
I want to talk about my guys. I want to
talk about my guys.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
So and I can understand to a like when you
got the job, now you got the conference, media really
hasn't an opportunity to talk to you about it. But
at some point it, you know, does have to be
about them, agreed. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Oh oh wait, we have another from Iowa from the
IOWA from the Des Moines Register.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
Uh, let's ask the coach, Hey, their coach, uh, during
your intransit on your public propeller plane ride there?

Speaker 7 (14:25):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (14:26):
Did you were you served any snacks or drinks on
that short flight?

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Nothing else?

Speaker 1 (14:31):
No?

Speaker 5 (14:31):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (14:31):
No service there? No good news is snacks or drink service.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Good news is I can put all the bottled waters
in my bag that I could possibly bring and it
doesn't set off any radar detector, you know, any and
a metal detector or anything you know insecurity. Bad news
is no no flight attendant, no no help. Oh, mister Byer,
you have a one.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Was there any Was there any animas from any of
the rival schools in your interactions? Anything maybe off putting
or a little strange?

Speaker 2 (15:07):
No, No, I know most I almost the guys anyway. No,
I mean, look, do I think that when you're not around,
are there people gonna say, like, oh, you know clown show?

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Yeah, sure of course, like that's what sadly, that's what
we as people do. But no, couldn't guys, couldn't have
been any better, any kinder, you know, just welcome, shake
hands whatever. But plus, I mean the reality is, uh,
it's it's such a tight window that there's only maybe

(15:43):
there's probably thirty minutes for small talk, and I just
I was I was more with my players, so not
really not really a kumbai ya whatever there was. We
met with with our commissioner and she's awesome, And the
reason she's awesome is she used to work for the NCAA,
so uh so she can kind of give you us

(16:07):
a real sense, a real sense of what's happening. Uh
it's her name is Julie, Julie Rowe uh latch is
her is her name wonderful And she used to she
used to work in enforcement. So she's like, this hasn't
gone through yet, but we think this is what's gonna happen,
and here's what's gonna happen. And no one questions her

(16:28):
because because if you do, you're like, I used to
work at the nca for a long time, so like
oh yeah, and then we're all kind of in a
room in a locker room and everybody just sitting around
and yeah, I was so no, that was that was?
That's it? Anything else? Okay, well listen, thanks for coming,
And do I have to I need to go? Do

(16:48):
I need like an exit exit line?

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Right?

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Like you know all this all the coaches at all
the big football schools, you know, like over the Auburn
coach which is like ends in every interview with war Eagle,
or Michigan State coach co Green or what's his name
from USC fight on, I'm gonna say no I think
it's super cheesy, right.

Speaker 6 (17:14):
Phoenix Rising, you just end with Phoenix Rising.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
How about I'll see you in.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
San Antonio, seeing san Antonio, see you in San Antonio,
see in the gym you need me, I'll be in
the gym.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
One.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
I like that, but I kind of let it go.
It's like, eh, kind of let it go, Okay, see
in San Antonio, see in San Antonio because it's not
wrong because if we don't get to San Antonio, I'll
still be in San Antonio. Technically, it's not lying like
he did predict he be in San Antonio, and sure
enough here he is. Fascinating. It was fun though, like

(17:48):
it's it's just a I like, by the way, Jason,
that you carved this out for me because these are fun,
unique experiences, which for the first time, it's it's just
a different feeling right to be a Duck coach.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
If you will, sure to catch the live edition of
The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Stug Gottlieb Show with Fox Sports Radio. So I'm gonna
pretend that Ben Roethlisberger doesn't have any ulterior motives, right,
because you know, having retired recently, most of those quarterbacks
don't like Russell Wilson. They just don't. They just don't.
Guys do not like Russell Wilson. I can tell you

(18:31):
I don't know. I know seven or eight NFL quarterbacks.
I know probably ten to fifteen offensive coaches, quarterback coaches,
oc offensive line coaches. He's just not a guy that

(18:52):
anybody really likes or maybe even knows, and so they're
judging based upon perception or maybe the fact that don't
know him, when they all the rest of them know
each other. Anyway, here's what Ben Roethlisberger said on his
podcast regarding the Steelers quarterback position.

Speaker 7 (19:07):
I like what I've seen. I like that he's getting
into it. I like he's getting the feel of it.
You know, if you told me they're one on one
or ROWO and two and these are going on and say, yeah,
we got to do something. But again, he's not turning
the ball over. They're two and zero. Big test this
week with the I think the Chargers are coming in town.
To me, if Russ is healthy, I'm sticking with Justin.
I said it last week. I wouldn't but what I

(19:28):
saw today, I think that he has earned deserves the
right to stay there.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Okay, I think Look, the second game was better than
the first game. I don't think anybody thinks he was
particularly good, But I do understand the philosophy of Hey,
if one is not particularly good but doesn't fit at
all what you're trying to do. Like again, if you
know what they've what they've tried to say about, Hey,

(19:57):
all we need Russ to do is get rid of
the ball quick and see the feel well. And he's
always held the ball too long. And then he's not
nearly as athletic as he used to used to be,
and he's coming off a cap injury, so it ain't
like he's gonna be run around back there. If worst
case scenario, you're justin fields, you just take a look
and you don't like what you see, eat it and
run the football and play to your defense and your strengths. Again,

(20:20):
it's not a terrible philosophy, but you do wonder how
much of the competitiveness of people in fact you don't
like Russell Wilson plays into it. Stuck Out Leab Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. The show is sponsored by DraftKings.
Stay tuned because you hear more about Draft Kings and
all has the effort throughout the show. Draft Kings the
Crown is yours. Top of the hour. Usually that's the

(20:41):

war Moon, the Hall of Famer is going to join
us at one on the West at four on the East,
so let's do the midway now.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
He's not getting a little it's time for the Midwell.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
I am Doug Gottlie, your host Dan Byer alongside. Make
sure you check out Who I Want your Flex podcast
of course listen to on Sundays here on Fox Sports Radio.
Our steam producer and podcaster in regards to the Bachelor
or Bachelorett is Jason Stewart. And then of course I
was Sam the will Philibusterer. Without any question, when a

(21:24):
topic comes up is part.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Of this as well, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
So, So what's the discussion point today, guys? Owing two teams?
Is that what you guys want to do?

Speaker 5 (21:33):
I definitely want to get to that, but could we
do some house cleaning? Remember a week ago each of
us went around talking about the biggest overreaction from week one?
Could we just kind of give the listener an update
on how do you feel about that overreaction?

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (21:48):
For example, I said that the Jets and the knock
on Aaron Rodgers was a bit of an overreaction. I
had thought that that he's going to probably find his way.
I think Week two kind of verified my caution to overreact.
How about your guys' choices. Were you validated by week

(22:09):
two or maybe did that kind of go against your overreaction.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
I don't remember what I said week want.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Yeah, I don't know either.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Sorry, Jay, I'm Bill and I remember that one. Sam.

Speaker 6 (22:23):
I do remember saying give Bryce Young more time, uh,
and that that take might be expired now its shelf
life is it's rotten because he's been benched and the
coaching staff clearly said that he's been given enough time.
So on Andy Dalton, Well.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
I again, I think it's a it's a confidence thing
more than anything. But regardless, Okay.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
I am really curious what I did say last week.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
I don't know what I said either.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
All access.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
I wasn't here last Monday. Sorry, oh ask Wednesday? Okay, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
In the meantime, i'd like for you guys to take
a look at the two teams, and I want our
listeners right now, even if you're driving, look down at
your phone and look at the two teams. Dan Bayer
had a stat recently. It was the last couple of
days that in the seventeen game schedule there have only
been like what two teams that have started.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Yeah, this is from from bet online. Of the twenty
one teams that started out oh to two since the
seventeen game schedule was implemented, only two have made the postseason.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
That's significant. So looking at the O two teams right now,
I want to kind of know which which team is
in the least amount of trouble. Doug discussed his yesterday,
So I'll have you repeat your choice.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
To in the most trouble, least amount of trouble, own the.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Least amount of trouble. I don't think the Bengals are
in crazy trouble. I also I don't think the Ravens
are in crazy trouble either.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
A pie.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Well, I'm just telling you I think I think the
culture in trouble. I think the Broncos are in trouble.

Speaker 6 (24:18):
Doug, if you had to flip a Coin though, between
the Bengals and the Ravens in that division, who's getting
out alive.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
That's a really good question.

Speaker 6 (24:29):
Will rise from the Ashes like the Phoenix in Green.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
Oh look at look at you, Look at you. I'm
gonna say Bengals.

Speaker 6 (24:42):
Because they've dealt with the slow starts in the past.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
They dealt with the slow starts in the past. The
back end of their schedule is not crazy, like last
four games of their season at Titans, Browns, Broncos at
home at Steelers Steelers twice. Obviously difficult game, but Steelers
at home like again, so Seilers at Cowboys Titans late
by is weird. I think Bengals are my because they've

(25:07):
dealt with a slow start. They do have some you know,
like their next two games are Commanders and Panthers, and
then they have Ravens and Giants Browns. I think the
Bengals will be fine.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
I would also agree with that, and in fact, I
pick Cincin ninety to win the AFC North. I think
of the oh to two teams, those are the only
two teams that we shouldn't be worried about. I think
there's serious issues with the other OH to two teams,
whether it be their team construction or where they are

(25:39):
division wise, because the AFC South is basically all oh
and two, but the two and zero teams the Houston Texans.
So when the Tecans already have a two game lead
through two weeks of the season, it's pretty good start.
I think that's going to be tough to make up.
But the Bengals Ravens debate who the Bengals have been

(26:01):
at mess of chaos these first two weeks? Were the Ravens.
Wasn't it supposed to be a carryover from the successful
last season? Try to get over that hump. Let's add
Derrick Henry and it Sure again they were a toe away.
But at least the Bengals can say we've been dealing
with a lot of crap. Once that gets cleared up

(26:22):
injury wise, t Higgins gets healthy, we feel like we're
going to be fine. Were the Ravens. I'm just kind
of like, all right, how do you write this because
you're still dealing with the same stuff that maybe you
dealt with at other times. Buddy carry Rhades, who I
team with up with on Sunday, says Ravens playing down
to the level of their competition and that has not changed,
or playing to the level of their competition, that has

(26:43):
not changed through two weeks of the season.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
I would I agree with you. I'd listen. The fact
is they should have beaten Raiders and they probably can't.
Could have the Raiders, I understand, and they probably you
could have maybe should have beaten the Chiefs. The Chiefs,
you know you're playing them and the refs. Let's just
be honest. Plus, it's like a toll out of line.
But Lamar struggles to stay healthy for an entire season, right,

(27:11):
the Derrick Henry thing, it just doesn't seem like a
great fit. And the offensive line is not good. So
I again, and we can pick apart the Bengals, but
and they lost one. You can't lose to the to answer, say,
I hear you, but you can't lose the Patriots at home?

Speaker 6 (27:30):
Right, Yeah, I know both the Bengals and the Ravens
have been chiefd We'll just say that they've both been chieved.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
They both lost it to.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
An inexplicable Yeah, you shouldn't lose at home too, And
they are both games that you know, the Bengals probably
should have won. There's a touchdown that was called out
of bounds and it wasn't upon further review. Uh, and
then the Ravens had them. I just yeah, I just
think the Bengals are going to be better. I really

(28:00):
don't like the Ravens offensive line. I don't think their
defense is a dominance bin and I think a lot
of that is how much you're paying them are And
then they go out and bringing Derrick Henry and like that.
He's guy. He has to get the ball twenty five
times a game, and they're not going to play that way.

Speaker 6 (28:16):
There is such a strong culture though in Baltimore. I
would argue it's strong, much stronger, maybe not much stronger.
It's stronger than Cincinnati. So I mean, like you look
at Harbaugh, you look at what he's built over the years.
They have maybe the mental wherewithal to pull themselves.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Out of it.

Speaker 6 (28:31):
But maybe you're saying the Bengals are in a better position.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
I would also say that I think the Rams would
be a part of this conversation if they weren't so
injured and now have to host San Francisco and what
will be a semi home game for them, if not
more coming up this Sunday.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
So Rams are so banged up, and they go to
the Bears and look, the Bears obviously Caleb Williams hasn't
been good. Then Packer's at home, Raiders at home after
the Bible like, they just got to get to the
bye week, and even then it's gonna be. It's it's rough.
Their schedule is their crossover schedule is really hard, all right?

(29:14):
So yeah, because they still have they still have the
Bills in the schedule, they go to the Saints and
the two that in the AFC East. That feels like
winnable games, right. Winnable games are when you play the
Jets and when you play the Patriots. They play both
those on the road, Dolphins at.

Speaker 5 (29:34):
Home, and and the one guy that isn't injured always
gets injured. Like wouldn't you would you be shaftered if
over the next couple of weeks Stafford doesn't go down
with something, especially if if he's asked to do more
than he has to do.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
I saw was it Chase Daniel said he should trade
Matt Stafford.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
I like left.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
And I don't know.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
I don't mind the outside the box thinking, but it
is early on in the season. I didn't know how
a deal like that would go down. But at some
point they are going to need a reboot.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Yes, they they scot They got a lot of juice
out of the Orange last year that we didn't see
coming right, and then this year it's been it's been
a mess. You have two incredible wide receivers and they're
both hurt. Team, What are you really going to do?
What are you really gonna do? So fascinating? Okay, how

(30:30):
about this one, I'll ask I'll ask you guys, if
you if you had to bet on one two and
oh team collapsing Vikings, Saints, Buccaneers, Seahawks, Bills, Steelers, Texans,
Chargers in Chiefs, who do you think is most likely
to not make the playoffs of those two and oh teams?

Speaker 3 (30:55):
I'd say Minnesota. I had agree that.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
I think that's a pretty easy call, right.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
I admit the Seahawks haven't faced a murderer's row of
opponents right now, But I also think that the NFC
North is a difficult division and that would be tough
to navigate.

Speaker 6 (31:18):
The Chargers too, I'd throw them in there.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
I think you're the real deal.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
I think the Chargers are exactly what we think they are. Yeah,
I think there's a limitation in terms of their actual ceiling.
But I think they're a very physical team and being
a very physical team and being a team that's running
the football, even if they have get running backs banged up,
that's going to keep Herbert playing most of the entire season.
I think they're going to be good. Solid. I think

(31:42):
they're gonna win ten eleven games the Seahawks, Dan, can
you tell me if you agree with this? I think
this Dolphins game is a huge one. Dolphins starting a
backup quarterback. They're playing at home, chance to go to
three and zero before they go to Detroit. They're going
to beat the Giants at home. If you can get
the three, you know, four wins in your first five
games before you take on and they always play the

(32:04):
Niners well. And again here's the schedule part that you like.
Seattle's always a difficult place to play, and they some
of those tough games they get at home, right, they
get the Packers at home, they get the Bills at home,
they get the Vikings at home. So but I think
if you can beat the the Dolphins this week, I

(32:26):
think you'll beat the Giants in week What is that
six or five five. Yeah, I think the Seahawks got
a real chance to get to double digits and wins again.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Go ahead. I don't mind if people say that they
don't think they're going to make the playoffs because they're
two and zero. I just I don't think they're fraudulent
right now. It's you know, they may be a nine
and eight team. Yeah, but you know, maybe maybe they
don't make the playoffs. Maybe you know, it ends up
being it will behind, but will be Yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Dan buyer, what you got, Doug.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
Today's game is for better or worse?

Speaker 5 (33:46):
All right?

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Who's better or worse in these situations? Playing the role
of America's team the matchup Doug Cowboys versus Chiefs. Okay,
playing the role of America's team, who's better shoot for
that role right now in the NFL, or who is
worse suited for that role?

Speaker 2 (34:05):
I think Cowboys are still better, still better.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Better.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
I understand the Chiefs thing because you have the Taylor Swift,
you have Taylor Swift part of it. You have the
defending champions. But you know, some of America, America is
really really good. I think it's still the greatest place
ever nowhere else I want to I'm not moving anywhere.
I'm ditching my country, ever, incredible country. But we're living

(34:31):
a little bit of our past glory a lot like
the Cowboys, and every year we expect it to be
the best, and there's something that holds its back, like
right at the end, we screw it up, we shoot
ourselves in the foot. I'm gonna go Cowboys more America's
team than the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
All right, this may be on the opposite end, because
we could do.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
The chief It could be the Chiefs could be the Chiefs,
because hey, end of the day, the Chiefs are always
they always win in the end, and America does always
win in the end. That's hard. I'm gonna go with Cowboys, though.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
I actually agree with that assessment. This one actually will
likely be the worst side of things. Okay, worst loss
for the Cowboys the Saints loss this past weekend, or
the Packers loss in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Packers playoffs. Packers playoffs because the year before, Dak was
bad against the Niners. The Packers fired their defensive coordinator
after winning playoff games, and their defense helped really help
them win a playoff game, and the game was over
at halftime at home. Yeah, I mean, like, look, we

(35:32):
two of the season, they got embarrassed, like happens playoffs again,
Packers bad defense, two pick six in the first half
that Packers lost way worse.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
All right, for better or worse? What's the better? Former
Panthers quarterback Revival Baker Mayfield versus Sam Donald.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
You know, I know I love Sam Donald, but I
think it's Packer Mayfield, you know, because Baker was so
much look at me, look at me. There's so much
attention to him, and you know what, he's gone down
and made the playoffs last year. They're gonna make the
playoffs probably this year. He just he's good, solid, Like
was he truly worthy of the number one overall pick.
Probably not, But you know what, when Baker Mayfield is

(36:16):
the underdog, you don't want to doubt him. He has
a tend to I'm gonna say Baker Mayfield, all right.
He's also done it longer at a higher level than
Sam Donald. Sam Donald had a couple of games with
the Panthers that were good, and he's had a couple
of games with the Vikings are good. As much as
I think Sam Donald could be better eventually than Baker
because he's stronger, better arm, better athlete, I'm reasonable to

(36:36):
say Baker's better right now?

Speaker 3 (36:37):
All right? Final one? Who's the better insider? Shams or
woge woach woach?

Speaker 2 (36:44):
I mean he invented the woje bomb. Right, Yes, that's
game time.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
Show, War Moon's gonna join a subcome next. I'm gonna
