there's one more reminder here, and this is really important.
A reminder. This show is brought to you by DraftKings
(00:46):
Spongs by DraftKings. Stay tuned because you'll hear more about
DraftKings and all has to offer throughout the show. DraftKings.
The Crown is yours. It was a great wild weekend
baseball races heating up and as we told you it
would happen. Just told you what HAPPENEDO Tani fifty for fifty.
You guys know there's somebody else going forty to forty
crazy though, But Joeyo Tani, maybe we'll have a discussion
(01:09):
on a slower day when there's not as many things
to discuss. Is there any conversation he's the best player
ever to play baseball? I don't think there is. But
regardless of that, that's just simply obviously a playoff. Pennant
races and wildcard races throughout baseball, wild weekend in college football,
the miracle in Boulder, Colorado, some of the their craziness
(01:31):
in the college game, Michigan not even throwing the football
and running it over and through USC to a win.
Got stuff there. And then of course the NFL Sunday,
which was interesting. I don't know if it's a great,
but very interesting. All part of our own kind of
personal snapshot is what we call love and hey, what.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Did you love?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
God? I love you?
Speaker 2 (01:51):
And what did you hate?
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Meet these player Hays's every Monday hearing the Dog Gotlieb
Show on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
We play for you a portion, Oh sorry, we play
for you. We recap a portion of the weekend that
we loved and then we hated. So a resident lover,
it's Dan Byer, Dan, what'd you love for the weekend.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Well, Doug, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
In a league that strives on parody, I love that
my Seahawks are three and oh and I know I'm
gonna get some pushback and say, well, who have you beaten?
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:35):
You baden?
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Yeah, Broncos, Patriots and Dolphins. Should I remind you there
are eleven Super Bowl championships super Bowl titles combined with
those three franchises.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
That was that? Is that really your pushback? I know
you're like smiling when you say that.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Well, I joke.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Dan Reno is not walking through that door. Tom Brady's
not walking is not walking through that door.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
But I will say this, on a schedule yesterday where
you saw the Broncos go to Tampa and take out
the Buccaneers, where you had a crazy comeback with the
Rams beating the forty nine ers, there are outcomes that
surprised many in the National Football League. I'm sure we're
gonna get to at some point in this segment. The
Seahawks have done what they've needed to do, win the
(03:24):
games they are supposed to win. They probably will not
have any three easier games than the games that they've
had on their schedule.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Here.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
But again, Buccaneers could have been three and oh. All
they had to do is beat the Broncos of the
Seahawks beat in Week one, and they couldn't.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Do it yesterday.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
So I'll take the Seahawks being three and oh and
having a two game lead in the NFC West while
I can.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
I want to mention one thing about that game, and
I encourage our listeners to go back and watch it.
Find it on Twitter, whoever, you gotta get it. The
bomb to DK Metcalf in that game was severely underthrown.
DK had beaten his DB's by twenty yards and Gino
Smith underthrew it. DK had to slow down almost to
(04:07):
a stop to catch the ball. That allowed two professional
defensive backs who probably run four three forties to catch
up to DK. He catches the ball and then somehow
just bursts another fifteen yards into the end zone without
them catching it. Was like a cartoon or like a
video game. He caught it and then you push the
(04:28):
button that makes you go really fast into the end zone.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
It's funny you say that, because on the Sunday show
I do with Carrie Rhoades, this play happened as we
were on the air, and he immediately just said, yeah,
they're not going to catch him. Yeah, that he was gone,
Actually was before we got on the show. That's why
he said it. We were getting ready. Yeah, as soon
as as soon as he caught it and he started
to take off, he goes, it's over. Good observation, Jason
(04:52):
three and zero. I'll take it, Ryan, what do you
got Well?
Speaker 7 (04:58):
I love the fact that Gino Smith was on my
bench in my fantasy league, but that's not what I
want to talk about. I despise the forty nine ers,
and I love the fact that they lost during football season,
and me and my family, all we do is talk trash,
and I was talking a lot of trash when the
forty nine ers lost. So whenever a Niner team loses,
it's a good day. Plus, I think Rock Purty is overrated.
(05:20):
And that's all I have to say.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
He was good yesterday, though, he was really good. But
did he win?
Speaker 5 (05:25):
No, But if Ronnie Bell could catch they probably would
have fair point, So.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
Fair to say he earned another Bell contract. Dan and
I were Dan and I were on a group text
with our.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Friends job almost good and called Doug by the way,
I'm sorry, that's very good.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
You guys didn't even get that one did yet? I said,
what about Bell and BIV? Nobody gets that?
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (05:49):
Bad?
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Yeah Ben?
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Never never trust the big button to smile.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
That's what you want to vote. But yeah, we got it. Yep.
Uh so good. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
I sent a text to Dan and John Ramos, our
friend John Ramos, because those tweets of the home crowd
at so far, with all the red. It was a
forty nine er home game. Here we are how many
years now, six or seven years into the Rounds returned
to Los Angeles. They've been to a super Bowl, and
(06:24):
they won a super Bowl. This is an established team
with an exciting young head coach and a good team,
and they're still giving away home games to forty nine ers.
It's disgusting, it really is. But I have to give
them credit for the win yesterday for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Okay, can I give you what I loved? I just
I love Joshypel's speech.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
I did.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
I love Josh Hypel's speech. You know that's the reality.
It so just. I love that he didn't make it
about him, but he processed those emotions so much. And
for people who don't know Joshipel was quarterback at Oklahoma.
They won a national championship. There's a freaking statue of
(07:15):
him out front, and Bob steps fired him. And I
don't even know if Bob Stoops was wrong to let
him go that you know, at some point in time,
you got to make some tough changes, but it just
it feels wrong. It's a hard thing about coaching your
alma mater, really really hard thing. So I don't know,
that's that's uh, that's my love. I I you know,
(07:40):
it was a tough weekend for the state of Oklahoma,
but Oklahoma Oklham State both losing home games, one to
Utah new member of the Big Twelve, and one to
Tennessee as Oh, you moved in the SEC. And I
think Oklahoma's in for a tough year. But I don't
know the Josh Hipel thing. If you haven't seen the speech,
(08:00):
you gotta check that one out, because he held it in,
held it in, held in, and then it was pretty
obviously emotional, and I don't know, I can't imagine the
emotions of it. You know, like we're playing my first
game at Oklahoma State. They didn't fire me, they didn't
hire me, but I mean again, like it just gives
me more gratitude for for Green Bay, but for a
(08:22):
guy that was actually there and won a national championship,
Like I was a good player. He won a national
championship his quarterback in two thousand. I loved it. I
loved it all right, let's turn to the tables. Let's
go to let's kind of hate. What'd you hate from
the weekend?
Speaker 9 (08:36):
Hm m mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmm uh Dan on Jason Stewart, You're
you're the best for the hate.
Speaker 6 (08:52):
This is what I'll do. I'm gonna do a Instagram
live right after the show today to do what I
loved from this segment. So we're gonna shove it. We
skip me, but I'm gonna do an Instagram live right
for the show.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Thought. I thought you did you.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
I thought it was the Rams forty nine ers thing
that you loved that you were sending too.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I thought that was your DK Metcalf thing too. Yeah, Yeah,
I'm gonna, I'm gonna.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
I'm gonna. I'm gonna save my thoughts on Malik Willis.
Now let's get to what I hated, because this is
very vitriolic coming into the game yesterday, the Panthers had
given up seventy three points in two games, and that's
a low total because the Panthers played the Chargers and
(09:36):
the Chargers just stopped scoring in the fourth quarter of
their game, so they probably could have given up one
hundred points in the first two games of the weekend.
The Raiders were coming off this amazing win on the
road in Baltimore. The Panthers made a quarterback change. You
wouldn't think that would impact too much of the game.
(09:57):
I think it moved the line two points.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
You hate that.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
No, this is what I hate.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
I hate that I had the Raiders of my Survivor poll.
I hate that the Raiders cost me a massive amount
of money yesterday. I hate that they didn't show up,
that they could not score on a Panther team that
had given up seventy three points in two weeks. Now
you could say the Raiders scored twenty two yesterday. No,
(10:24):
they had a couple of late trash touchdowns. That doesn't count.
They let Andy Dalton look like Joe Montana.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
That wasn't Joe Montana.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
They made him look like an incarnate of Joe Montana
and Dan Marino. This is Andy Dalton. The Raiders should
be embarrassed, and that was a home game for the Raiders.
If I'm a Raider fan right now, I'm probably turning
in my credentials and I'm joining the Charger fans. If
I'm a Raider fan right now, I'm embarrassed. It's disgusting.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Can we all like there's a bigger discussion here? He couldn't.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
So.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
One of the reasons that there was such a pushback
to having a team in Vegas was the nightlife, right
and again I don't know who went out and who
didn't go out, but that felt like a game. You
know what that felt like? What was the other boxer
(11:24):
that Butch killed in pulp fiction where he never laced
up his gloves? You know, the fix was in. Butcher
was supposed to take a dive, He didn't take a dive,
and then the guy died in the ring. That was
the Raiders. I don't know this for a fact, okay,
but in just in terms of final scoreack come. Everyone
says Carolina has no players, Caroline's not very good, and
(11:47):
Andy Dalton was a damn good quarterback for a long time.
He's turned himself into the consummate backup. He's good. This
just has to be a game where the Raiders didn't
prepare well enough for it. And you know, it's it's
one of those things where those old school coaches they
get you to you know, it's like we always used
(12:07):
to make fun of Lou Holtz saying, like, you know,
shid now, it's a heck of a football day. They
cut me the here bake it, and you're like, yeah,
no they can't. But you have to convince your team
to prepare as if they're playing the eighty five Bears.
And he couldn't do that. He could he couldn't couldn't
do that.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
I also say this because I pose this question honestly.
If we honestly say who would you rather have as
your quarterback, Gardner Minshew or Andy Dalton? And I think
the answer is Andy Dalton. For as much as we
love Minshew mania, there is a portion of that. For
as great as it was last week, Gardner Minshew will
(12:47):
bring your team back from you know, down ten in Baltimore.
I think that took a lot out of them. I
felt like they won a super Bowl like game last week,
and then you come home and you feel like it's
a home opener, but really the bigger high was last week?
Yeah sure, And how do you prepare, Like, if you're
the Raiders, you can't watch any Bryce Young film because
that is irrelevant. So I think that they were really
(13:10):
difficult to prepare for Andy Dalton because you didn't see
Andy Dalton and Dave Canalis's offense.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah yeah, I actually I actually understand that one more
so than some of the other ones. So I understand
your anger there, Jaysu, But I think that was a
game of they weren't prepared when you want to call
it letdown game or they didn't take it seriously or whatever.
Speaker 6 (13:32):
Right, Why didn't they tell me beforehand that that they
weren't prepared. I could have changed my pick.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
That's true, they should have.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
This is Jason was stuck on this pick, Doug with
this stuff, I go back and forth, and I'm wishy washing.
I talked myself out of stuff. Jason was locked in
for this all week long, all week long.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
It's one thing to it's one thing to pick a
Survivor pick and be pissed off at the team, But
like when you pick the team that you hate, so
you're you're essentially rooting for the team you hate and
they still lose. It just feels it feels even more hollow.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Okay, what about you there, Ryan.
Speaker 7 (14:14):
Yeah, so I'm a Raider fan, so let's talk about this.
I don't care about Jason's hatred. I do not care.
There's only one nation, and yesterday my team, the Raider Nation,
played like trash. And they always do stuff like this.
They go out and beat teams they have no business beating,
like the Ravens, and then they lose the teams they
have no business losing too, like the Panthers. They choose
(14:37):
Jason's point. They did make Dalton look like Joel Montana.
I don't know what they were thinking. It was somebody
I would say, you know, you know what, I would say,
Tom Brady. But Tom Brady cheats. But and I don't think,
and I don't think the Panthers cheated. Raiders just didn't
come to play. And I'm kicked off. I either turn
my phone off. That's how mad I was. So that's
(14:59):
all I gotta I'm chicked off. And by the way,
I will never become a Chargers fan. I'd rather drink bleach.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Well, that's a good way to get rid of COVID.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
That's harsh.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
Jeez, thugs on fire, first belve of devote all this.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
As if I was a lady they be. They called
me sadiny.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Did you were you up all that?
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Like?
Speaker 5 (15:23):
Are you wired from the first practice? Or did you
get good sleep last night?
Speaker 1 (15:27):
I got? I mean, did you hear the sleep number read?
I got great sleep last night? Totally factual? No, I
got like five six strong hours, but that's after being
up for thirty straight hours. So yeah, no, I'm I'm good.
I'm you know, I just I'm I personally take great
delight in just crushing our dudes. And then at the
(15:49):
end of our practice, I had everybody coaches included to
a five minute wall st and the coaches were like,
what five minutes if we gotta do it? Like, yep,
we're all in this together. Guys are dying. I mean
my legs are fried too. But it was fun to do.
So yeah, I'm in a mood. Not gonna lie. I'm
in a bit of a mood. Ah. What a good weekend,
(16:12):
What a really good weekend. Plus I had a really
good hung out with my son yesterday. We went to
Wild Wings and we finally like central time zone. I'm
convinced is the time zone for wild Wings because the
early window is twelve o'clock, right, So we went like
twelve fifteen and here's another like b Dubs or any
(16:33):
sports bar NFL fan college towns and we were in Stillwater.
College towns are amazing on a Sunday because it's not
really NFL territory, so there's places to sit. Whereas if
you're in LA or if you're in San fran or
in Chicago or even in Green Bay, like on an
NFL weekend, sports bars are packed. College Saturday not as
(16:54):
much so, so we nailed it. A college town go
to a sports bar on a Sunday in the Central
time zone and you get all those games at once.
So all of that combined with a great I think
five and a half hour stretched last night, Yeah, and
making everybody do five minutes of wall sits, I'm good.
Anything else, anybody else want to get anything off their chest,
(17:15):
anything else you hate from the weekend.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
I just hated that Baylor's defense was called victory cigar
on that hill Mary pass which I saw running around.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Why weren't they in a zone? Why wasn't there like
three guys back there and just in a zone. I
don't know what are they doing.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
They were all around Travis Hunter. That's what Hunter said. Awful.
I mean good for Colorado, you know, but gil been.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Bad for David Randa. I like Dave Randa a lot.
He had a winning really well. The losing has been bad.
And yeah, yeah, all right, that's loving hate.
Speaker 2 (17:49):

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Doug gottlib show Fox Sports Radio Monday Night matchups, the
Washington Commanders traveled to since s Anay night take on
the Bengals. It features two LSU Heisman Trophy winners, Jade
Daniels of course Commander's quarterback, and Joe Burrow. Hey, can
I ask you guys a question? I don't think I know.
I haven't discussed it with Jay stew I'm guessing I
(18:23):
know where Jay Stu sits on this, but again I
don't want to. Maybe I'm assuming that's not upfair. But
the Commander's name change to the football team happened. I
think before we all started working together and Buyer. Maybe
I think maybe you and I were working together. I
can't remember exactly when it went down, probably Buyer and
I worked together. There is a new push to bring
(18:48):
back the Redskins. I don't think that's happening, but it
really is silly. It's one of those wait, did we
really change the Washington Redskins nickname? It's like, yeah, we
really did, Like why did we do that? Well? People
were offended? Who was offended? Well, I don't know. It
(19:14):
still just doesn't work, and I don't And again it's
like we've talked about this in baseball season now. The
Astros in the American League took a long time for me,
The Brewers in the National League took a long time
for me, And so maybe eventually it does work. I
just Buyer, you and I are aligned on I mean,
(19:35):
you're the You're are the uniform god, and I just
enjoy talking uniforms with you. But am I wrong here
to sit there and go like I don't know if
it ever the Commanders ever.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Works, I don't think. I don't think you can go
back to the to the old nickname. But I also
just you're never gonna make everybody happy. It's not gonna happen.
No one's going to agree on a name, and that's
the world that they got to live in.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I would agree, but I just am I wrong. The
Commanders doesn't work.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
No, but yeah, it's like it just.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
It doesn't flow off the tongue. It's hard for me.
I don't know. That's welcome and Ben Vollen, who joins
us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Ben,
of course covers the entire NFL is a scene writer
for The Boston Globe covering the National Football League Wild
Wild Wild Sunday. Let's start with the Cowboys. Dereck Henry's
(20:32):
Lives in Dallas comes in and runs over and through.
But there's lots of issues with the Cowboys. How fixable
are the Cowboys issues?
Speaker 8 (20:40):
They're fixable. This is the same team that went twelve
and four the last three years. So I would not
right off the Cowboys by any stretch. They Dak Prescott
to me, is still a top ten quarterback who can
leave this team to where they want to go. And look,
if the Cowboys had Dereck Henry, that wouldn't have been
the difference yesterday. It's rare that a running back in
today's NFL is a real difference maker. If the Cowboys
(21:04):
offensive line is an opening up holes, Derek Henry is
not going to have a big day. Derek Henry didn't
have a big day last week for the Ravens. Now,
you know, credit to the Ravens for exploiting the Cowboys
defense and running all over them. And that was a
desperate Ravens team yesterday that was staring oh and three
in the face. So that was not the easiest spot
for the Cowboys. They can get this stuff fixed, but
(21:27):
just it is the same old undisciplined Cowboys. You know,
are going to have a sloppy game and just not
not always be buttoned up in big moments. And you know,
that was a nice comeback for them, but you know,
the Cowboys still be a double digit win team with Dak.
But I still don't think this is a team that's
(21:48):
going to get, you know, to the Super Bowl or
be NFC contenders because they are still so sloppy.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
How do you explain what the Rams did yesterday?
Speaker 8 (21:57):
That was good, That was good heart, That was a
good win by Sean McVeigh. Uh. They pulled off teams,
big plays and the special teams, the fake pont. I
think the Niners had maybe some penalties on special teams
as well. And I mean, look, the Rams were facing
a nither team that didn't have George Kittle or Christian
McCaffrey or deebo scene, so neither team was operating anywhere
(22:19):
close to uh, you know, full power yesterday. But that
as a big win for Sean McVay. You're coming off
a blowout loss against the Cardinals, you're oh and two,
You're you're staring at oh and three with a loss yesterday,
you're by ten points in the fourth quarter. To have
the fortitude to uh to come away with that, that's
good coaching, that's good effort. That's a good sign for
(22:41):
the Rams that they're building a really talented roster with
good depths that can withstand some of these injuries, especially
if you can win games like this early.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
In the season. Stug got a lead show here on
Fox Sports Radio. I'm I'm fascinated by a couple of
different teams, and I just one, let's talk about the
Steelers now. One thing that help is the Chargers. You're
all banged up now, But I feel like while we're
(23:10):
talking about Justin Fields. It just means, like, is Russell
Wilson's career over.
Speaker 8 (23:18):
Russell Wilson hasn't said anything about this yet, but if
I were him, I'd be really ticked off because he's
getting he lost his job because he can't get on
the field right now. It's because of this cap injury
that's been lingering since the very first day of training camp.
During the Steelers conditioning tests. On the first day, for
some reason, the Steelers had their quarterbacks pushing blocking sleds,
(23:40):
which I can't think of one possible reason why you
need your quarterback pushing blocking sleds. Russell Wilson strains his
calf and it kept him out for a lot of
training camp and now for the first three games of
the season, and he's basically been wally pipped by Justin Fields.
And I don't know if if Wilson's going to be
getting his job back. So if Russell Wilson, I'd be
(24:01):
more than a little tip at the Steelers for making him,
you know, push some blockings led and having this injury
now that's affecting his season. He's being a good soldier
because that's that's who Russell Wilson is. I can't imagine
him actually speaking out against the team, but he should
be not thrilled about the way that this thing is
unfolding for him. And at the end of the day, though,
(24:24):
there still might be an opportunity to to get back
in the game. Justin Fields is doing a good job
of minimizing turnovers right now, and his pick yesterday was
his first, the Steelers first turnover in three games. But
that's you know, once they start playing tougher teams and
more dynamic offenses. You know, Justin Fields had a lot
of issues with the Bears, you know, seeing the field.
(24:47):
And we'll see if he continues to be the best
option for the Steelers moving forward. But Russell Wilson, if
I were him, i'd be a little take to the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Yeah, the we're seeing a blocking sled as an all timer,
all timer, all timer. Will Levis just can't help himself,
right He keeps training the football over like that's that's
not the answer there.
Speaker 8 (25:13):
No, And I would love to know you know who
on the Titans decided that it'd be a good idea
to go into the season with Will Levis as your
starter and to not have a veteran backup really behind him,
or just to put all your eggs in the Will
Levis basket, because I mean, what did he show last year?
He was a second round pick who played four games,
made a couple of throws, but it was as big
(25:36):
of a head scratcher as the Falcons last year going
into their season with Desmond Ritter at their quarterback. When
you just hand the job to these guys who aren't
even highly touted prospects and then they haven't really earned
the job, you know, you're telling your fan base, we're
just trying to go young and cheap here, and yeah,
Will Levis is making close to the league minimum, and
(25:56):
if he ends up being anything, then it's great value
compared to the fifty million dollars you're paying all these
other quarterbacks. But when you go young and cheap, you
get what you pay for. And you know, Will Levis
is driving his coach crazy. It he feels like every
game Bryan Callahan is yelling at Will Lepis and calling
him an idiot, you know, even in the press conferences.
And you know it's just going to be a long
(26:19):
season in Tennessee because the Titans don't have any other options.
They've sunk everything into Will Levis, and to me, he's
clearly not the answer.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
How good? How big a game is tonight for Buffalo?
And I say that not just because it's another AFC team,
but the chance to go three and oh with some
of these other teams stumbling, How big is this game?
Speaker 8 (26:39):
Yeah, it's huge to be able to go three and oh,
and it's another conference game. Those are always huge when
determining the playoff beating and you know, the Jets are
two and one and Aaron Rodgers looks like he's figuring
things out. Although you know, when you beat the Patriots,
hard to know if they're just beating up on a
bad team. But it does look like the Jets are
(27:00):
kind of trending in the right direction and Rogers is
figuring things out. So it's going to be a two
horse race in the AFC East between the Bills and
the Jets. So every win obviously is going to be
very important. And with the Chiefs also being three and zero,
you gotta keep pace. I mean, the last thing any
team wants to do in January is I have to
go to Arrowhead Stadium and the Chiefs already have already
(27:22):
jumped down to a you know, three to zero record
and inside track for that number one seed. So yeah,
for Buffalo, got to beat the Jaguars tonight. And if
you're the Jaguars and Doug Peterson, I mean your seat
is on fire right now. The owner has put you
on blast going into the season. You know, zero to
two with two bad losses. This is probably a more
(27:43):
must win game for the Jaguars and Doug Peterson than
it is for the Bills, but definitely an important game
for both teams tonight.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Okay, so Danny Dimes is back right, We're good. All
good in New York.
Speaker 8 (27:54):
Daniel Jones, you know what, he had a good season
two years ago. He let the Giants in the playoffs,
and he's got a real receiver now. And Malik Neighbors.
Good to see them getting him involved right away. And
Neighbors is off to a record setting start for a receiver.
And Brian Dabele has always been able to coach offense.
Last year they struggled, obviously because they had all those
(28:15):
quarterback injries, but Brian Dable has always been able to
coach offense as long as they get you know, Daniel
Jones on the move outside the pocket and they can
limit his interceptions and frankly, keep his past attempts pretty low.
You don't want him dropping back forty times a game.
But yeah, Daniel Jones, he wasn't bad in we two.
They only lost that game to the Commanders because he
didn't have a kicker, and he looked pretty good against
(28:38):
you know, a decent Browns team yesterday. So yeah, Daniel
Jones not not as bad as everyone was giving him,
you know, kind of credit for I guess, and you know,
I don't know if it's gonna be enough to save
his job this year, but he's at least a competent
starting quarterback when he's got a few pieces around him.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Explain the Saints, who everybody myself included brought into like, man,
Saints are they're cooking? This is pretty good. You know,
could not stop Sakuon Barkley at all yesterday. And then
the Eagles, in walking off the field point out something
that I believe as well, which is, hey, you got
(29:22):
Derek Carr, It's forever going to limit you. But which
team is the Saints? The one we saw the week
before in Dallas, so the one we saw yesterday where
they could move the ball against Eagles at home.
Speaker 8 (29:34):
I think probably more towards yesterday's team, and I would
agree with what the Eagles playing players were saying. Derek
Carr at age thirty three is not suddenly going to
morph into Joe Montana. So I think the offensive explosion
in the first couple of weeks was maybe the Saints
just catching some opponents off guards, certainly the Carolina Panthers
(29:55):
in Week one. That was a disaster for the Panthers.
I got to say, though, I was actually kind of
impressed by the Saints yesterday. I know, they had trouble
with Saquon Barkley and they gave up four hundred and
sixty yards, but that defense still only gave up fifteen points,
and they had a few turnovers on downs in the
first half. They create cast a couple turnovers, they blocked
a kick. I thought the Saints actually proved that they
(30:17):
have a decent defense, and I think that's gonna serve
them well throughout the season, more than the offense, which
is probably gonna be a little bit up and down.
But you know, they're the latest team to bring in
this forty nine ers offense, the Shanahan offense that just
travels so well, they're going to be a competitive team
this year. And I don't know. I think their defense
actually showed something yesterday, holding the Eagles only to fifteen
(30:40):
points even though they racked up all those yards. And
I still think the Saints are going to be a
team to reckon with in the NFC this year, even
though they were kind of exposed a little bit on offense.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Yesterday's fair, It's fair they were exposed. But I just again,
I'm kind of with maybe it's confirmation biased a little
bit with the Eagles in terms of what their limitations
actually are. Jordan Love hadn't played the last two weeks
for green Bay. They've They've won two games in a row.
It's not like I'm sitting here saying moliqu will it
(31:12):
should start. I'm saying, what are your impressions of green
Bay now that they've come back from Brazil one too
in a row. They got Vikings at home this this weekend.
But you assume you add Jordan Love and I don't know,
what are your what are your thoughts in the Packers
now having seen them without Jordan Love for a couple weeks.
Speaker 8 (31:34):
Yeah, Matt Lafleur is a heck of a coach, you know,
really done a tremendous job getting Malik Willis up to speed.
They only acquired this guy at the end of August,
you know, at the end of training camp, get him,
getting him up to speed, getting him into the lineup
so quickly, And he played really well the last two weeks.
I mean not that you said, like, let's not go
crazy and compare him to you know, starting caliber quarterbacks,
(31:57):
but given his circumstances, you know, Malik Willis played really well,
very safe with the football and made some baked rows
on third down yesterday, like you know, converted a third
and sixteen and had a third you know, like third
and longs. Malik Willis was was doing a nice job
of moving the chains. And to me, it's just a
(32:17):
reflection of Mattlifler and how good you know, if a
coach he is, and how good of a roster they've
built there. And to me, if you're the Packers, you've
now stolen two wins without Jordan Love, I would not
rush this guy back. I would take an extra week
the long season, you know, you know Minnesota in Week four, Yes,
that's a big game for the division, no question. At
(32:38):
the same time, I would just be very careful and
unless Jordan Love was one hundred ready to go, I'd
sit them for one more week, you know. And the Vikings,
even though they're they're three and zero, that's a beatable team.
Sam Darnold is not Joe Montana either. The Vikings could
be beatable. So I just think the Packers have stolen
(32:59):
two wins here without Jordan Love, and they that should
allow them to be very judicious and bringing him back
and making sure he's healthy and ready to go.
Speaker 1 (33:06):

to jinx it. I can tweet me if you know
what I'm talking about, Jace do you can text me?
Dann body you can text me, but don't say it
out loud. I'm doing the uh picture has a perfect
game going. Don't talk to him, don't sit next to him.
(34:06):
Thing on the guy that I think you know what
I'm talking about. Let's get to the press.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
The press.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
By what do you think the chances are that Jay
Stu just flirts out his name just to be that guy.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
Oh a zero percent?
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Yes, I'm no, he's not Ryan Smith. He might go
and I'm definitely not that guy either. I do want
to tell you that Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold is expected
to start Sunday at Green Bag Bad Mri showed no
structural damage to his injured left me.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
That's just because his grandpa's name.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
That's because his grandpa's name, you guys, rumber his grandpa's name.
His grandpa is one of the original Marlboro men. Anybody,
I do you were his name?
Speaker 4 (34:53):
But Jase dou.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Ryan Smith, Ryan Smith, you want to take a shot.
Speaker 7 (35:00):
I'm still giving Dan buyer standing ovation.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
He's so good, he's so good, He's so good.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Dick Hammer, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Grandpa's name, because I think his grandpa is an Olympian
dick Hammer. Like, of course he's not hurt. His grandpa's
name is dick Hammer. Anyway, go ahead, Dan, I'm.
Speaker 5 (35:23):
Sorry, Oh that is that is a name I should
have remembered, a name that we also remember.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Jordan Love.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
Head coach Matt Lafleur the Green Bay Packers says that
Love will be limited in practice again this week as
he tries to come back from that knee injury suffered
in Week one.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Yeah, I just I think, I mean, most people around
here think he's gonna play. The thought was gonna play
last weekend and ends up being bettered by a week
You know again, every day you buy is better for
the team and better for Jordan Love. I don't know
if you can beat the Vikingstadam on the other end, Right,
you got another quarterback coming in kind of dinged up
as well with the Vikings, but gonna be a big
(36:03):
one here at Lambeau.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
All right, we got some news on the college movement front.
We kind of broke down news earlier that Brett McMurphy
said that Gonzaga was going to join the Back twelve. Now,
Ross Dellen Jur of Yahoo Sports and John Rothstein of
CBS Sports say talks are ongoing, but no done deal yet.
We can tell you. Air Force says they are staying
with the Mountain West Conference. Memphis, Tulane, USF, and UTSA
(36:27):
did speak with the PAC twelve, but they're going to
stay with the American Athletic Conference.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Yeah. So yeah, it's one of those What does this
PAC twelve look like, right with some sort of hybrid
of West Coast Conference teams and Mountain West teams and Hawaii.
Speaker 6 (36:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
It doesn't do much for me anyway. I think it
just if Gonzaga moves to the PAC twelve, it means
they couldn't get into the Big twelve, which is the
one they really wanted.
Speaker 5 (36:57):
Maybe North Carolina get it. I don't know the ACC wantson.
After losing to James Madison seventy to fifty, mac Brown
didn't know if his team wanted him, as he even
admitted as much that he asked the team if he
should resign in the locker room afterwards. This was Mac
Brown today talking about those comments.
Speaker 10 (37:16):
So as walking off the field, I thought, I'm responsible
for all this. It's on me, So I should ask
the players about leadership and if they feel good about
me moving forward. That's something I shouldn't do. I shouldn't
put that pressure on those young people at that point.
Speaker 8 (37:32):
Hm.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
Surprising from a veteran coach, You wonder it's.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
A it's a weird one though, right, Like you're walking
off the field and you ask him like, come on,
that's a I like Mac, but it's a little bit
over dramatical. Maybe I should quit. That's that's good coaching
right there. No, coach, don't quit. We love you.
Speaker 5 (37:59):
As you were doing the five minute Uh what the
chair squads? What wals it walts It's that's what it was. Yes,
do you think they were hoping you would quit?
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Like at that point I actually did stand. I haven't
talked to them for like ten seconds and like wait,
what are you doing? What are you doing? And that's
suppress all right?
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Check out the podcast.
