You're welcome. We haven't done that on this show. Have
I ever told you that your welcome story? Jase Tuo,
we used to do your We used to call picks
you're welcomes. But you've never heard that your welcome story?
Have you not Oh, this is really good. This is
this is this is excellent.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
You know like it.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
This show is sponsored by Draftings. Stay tuned, you'll hear
more about DraftKings and all has to offer. Throughout the
show DraftKings, the Crown is yours. We'll talk about the
Cowboys winning, the Giants covering and by the way, the
under under giants to the under progress who said giants
to the under yesterday? Oh that was this guy? Yeah,
that was that was this guy. Okay, So here's the story.
(01:41):
Here's the your welcome story. I think you guys will
really appreciate this. You'll have to look up years. But
my brother was a longtime assistant at cal Berkeley. At
cal Berkeley and when he was one time they played
in the pre season. N I t remember the pre season.
It was one of the big preseason ternaments, if not
the biggest preseason tournament. Well, I don't know if it
(02:03):
is that or is the v Foundation. I think it
was preseason ninety and the first night they played Syracuse,
and Syracuse was quite good this year, and my brother
was in town in the city. They got in the
day before the game. The morning of the game, I
drove down to New York and I had coffee with
my brother in New York and at the time, I
(02:27):
think Patrick Christopher was their best players, known as PC.
He went on and had a cup of coffee in
the NBA. His brother is bouncing in and out. He's
been in the NBA as well. Anyway, Patrick Christopher. So
we go to have coffee and I'm like, dude, and
I think my parents were in town too to watch
the game. I was like, what's the matter with you? Like,
(02:47):
you're playing in New York City, the weather's nice, Mathison
Square Garden Knight playing against Syracuse. Our mom's almater. My
dad went there for a year, Like this is good stuff.
And he's like, yeah, PC's got a stress reaction, he's
not going to play. Oh oh oh oh really yeah.
(03:10):
I was like, well, who knows this? He is like
nobody knows. I was like, oh, okay. So I have
a really, really, really good friend. I have several good
friends who fit into this, but one who's a Syracuse
alum and a complete and utter degenerate, utter degenerate, and
(03:31):
he kept texting me all day, like talking trash about
how his orange We're going to demolish my brother's cow
cow Bears. So I don't know about forty five minutes
for tip. He's on and on and talking about the spread,
and I was like, take Syracuse, you're welcome. And he's
(03:53):
asking me, like why wou blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah. So I was like, look, take Syracuse,
you're welcome. Anyway, Syracuse won that night by like thirty
or forty, right, they were really good. That's essentially a
home game, and without PC, it was Alice and cards
for col Fast forward to the next night and they're
(04:14):
playing like North Carolina in the Consolation game. And again
he was on me about playing in the Constellation game.
How you know, because I ever challenged the Syracuse name,
this is my penance would be they were going to
get beaten. And I was like, take North Carolina, you're welcome.
(04:35):
And it was because I knew that he wasn't going
to play and the line was off. So I didn't
bet it because I don't bet sports. I didn't bet it.
I didn't send it out to every one of my
degenerate friends because that wouldn't be right. But one degenerate
friend pushed me, and then he was like, how did
(04:55):
you know? And I was like, well, my brother's the coach. Dude,
I knew he wasn't going to play like no one
knew that anyway, that insider training. I'll give up who
it was at some point if the FBI tracks me down.
In the meantime, we started a segment on my then
ESPN radio show and we said it was called You're Welcomes,
and it started off as like, hey, you get a
(05:16):
tip from somebody, and then it was just when we
felt like the line was off, we would say, you're welcome.
So let's see your welcome story. Did you do you
guys know that one? I don't know, Jace do. I
guess we'd never told that, right?
Speaker 3 (05:27):
I had not heard that before?
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Right, So do you just give a pick? Like last night,
if I would have said New York Giants under You're welcome,
it's the idea of I got tipped from a guy.
Just follow my lead, all right, all right, okay, thank you, Okay,
You're welcome. Welcome stuck Gottleib show, Fox Sports Radio. Let's
recap last night's Cowboys win Giants covered. Here's Dak Prescott
talking about the win.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
It was huge it was huge after obviously losing two,
especially at home, coming on the road first division game.
Division wins are always tough. As I said, then you
add on the road before a long weekend puts a
better taste and taste in our mouth. But at the
end of the days, as I've said, even after those
two losses a couple of weeks, you know, the past
(06:10):
two weeks is it's a process. So we're not gonna
get complacent. We're not gonna get over excited about what
we've done tonight. It's about building and it's about figuring
out what we can do better in all phases.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
But it's a lot easier to do that with the win.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Here's Mike McCarthy, send me up to win this way.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
What was the difference tonight with Dak and and the
CD getting going.
Speaker 7 (06:30):
I just think really as a whole, you know, as
a just the whole team. I mean, it's really the
first four quarter game we've played. I mean, we're you know,
it was a complimentary football game, you know, I you know,
I wish we would have been able to drive the
ball more offensively. You know, just felt like we left
our defense out there a bit much, you know, that
dead long swing right before the half, and then you
(06:50):
know they came right back here in.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
The first driver in the third quarter.
Speaker 7 (06:54):
So you know, I thought that was very challenging for
our defense and for them to continue to fight. But
I think the biggest thing was, you know, we were
able to you know that Franklin phil Nex the first
game I called, you know, for four quarters.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
That's the first game he called the feeling, the first
game he called like, I just didn't think that it
was a very impressive game. Al Michaels agreed, you're kidding.
Speaker 7 (07:20):
Well, start offense number thirty five yard penalty four.
Speaker 8 (07:25):
Down's the eighth penalty now.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Right, No, it's the one hundred and forty seventh. What
was that shot of you and Frank Gifford nineteen eighty six. Yeah,
you've called a bunch of Monday night football games right,
Thursday night and Sunday night.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
That was that.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
I don't know, is this a world record for you
in the first.
Speaker 9 (07:45):
Half laundry, Absolutely, thank you, without that question, without question.
You're gonna need some new flags to throw in the
second half. These things are filthy. Anger's kick he'll bounce
inside the five.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Oh my god, this is another flag. In fact, there
were two. We wouldn't lie to you. Yeah, Alice spread
down on the product. And Al's done this before on
Thursday Night football. Been a bit of a curmudgeon, and
he was a curmudgeon last night. There's just just no
(08:22):
question about it. But I think that we might want
to get to a different conclusion. I took the game
and had a different conclusion. You ready for it, Chase
do Are you ready for it?
Speaker 3 (08:37):
I want to hear more, al Michaels.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
You do, all right? Here's the more, al Michaels. Two
in a warning.
Speaker 9 (08:43):
Has not a curved We got another flag. It's like
June fourteenth here, otherwise known as flag days. You know,
play Martin looks like a referee had a central casting.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
It's like a young Terry McCauley out there.
Speaker 9 (09:03):
Besides the fact that the game is completely rhythmless. Yeah,
because what's being going on with the flags? What do
you make of the first half?
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Flip you the full.
Speaker 9 (09:12):
Back in the backfield, flare him out and pass out
of his reach.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Flag is down amazingly the first of the quarter. Hmm,
So do we got any more? Some more al Michaels.
I think that's it al not a fan. Can I
tell you what my takeaway is now? I just don't
(09:38):
think the cowboysh are they good? Now you can sit
there going like no whatever, no, no, no, no. I think
are expectations of them because of their record the past
couple of years is that you know, you still have Dak,
you got some of these pieces in place, and it's
pretty obvious. Their defense is not what it was and
(09:58):
it may not fit Mike's Zimmer. Their running game is
not what it was, their passing game is not you know,
the offensive line they had to go through redo and
they still probably potentially a playoff team. But you know,
the last two years they were in any conversation of
that second tier to compete to go to a super Bowl,
and I think this year they're more third or fourth tier.
Speaker 10 (10:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I mean, listen, we give the Giants a little bit
of credit, a little bit better than we thought. I
think the Commander's gonna be a little bit better than
we thought. I don't think the Eagles are going to
be as good as we thought. I do think they're
the second best team in that division, but I also
think that that division is not you know, the NFC South.
We think is better than we thought, and the NFC
East is not as good as we thought. I'm not
sitting here saying the Cowboys suck. I like the Cowboys days, Chuck.
(10:47):
They don't suck. They did win the game, but it
wasn't a pretty game. They're not nearly as explosive as
you think. They lack some of the basic parts that
could make them really good on both sides of the football.
And oh yeah, by the way, like remember this, this
team was built this season with Dak Prescott's current contract.
(11:08):
His current contract had the largest cap hit in the
history of the sport, so that's going to limit how
you build the team around you. My takeaway from the Cowboys,
instead of taking glee in the fact that they are
a way better team than the Giants and that it
was closed so maybe the Giants could have won, is
reality is Giants still aren't very good. They're a little
(11:28):
bit better we thought, but the Cowboys aren't that good
and that's why they only won by five points. Granted
should have been eight with the missfield goal. The Cowboys
are what do the kids say?
Speaker 11 (11:37):
Mid Be sure to catch the live edition of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Doug Gottlieb Show. Fox Sports Radio Doug Gottlieb Show is
broadcast live from the tyrack dot Com studios. Mark Domen
is going to join us momentarily, of course, former general
manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shout out to everybody
in Tampa all the rain down there in Florida with
the hurricane. You guys stay safe and hopefully everything dries
out and life will be back as normal in a
(12:11):
couple of days. It's just a hope, hope to people
in Tampa and parts of South Florida in the Panhandle
as well. This is Steve Young talking to Brett Brandon
NYUK during his radio hit in San Francisco yesterday.
Speaker 12 (12:24):
Brandon needs to look at in the eye, like, you know,
I'm sure there's things. Maybe the plays haven't been called
for him as much. Maybe there's some things odd, things
that happened on certain downs where he wasn't the primary
when they thought he would be. Maybe there's just some
you know, but in the end, the full measure of
what's happened, Brandon needs to own it, like I've come back.
I miss I missed the camp, and now I'm not.
(12:44):
That's not happening. So I have to take that on myself.
There's no blame other than yourself. Own it to me.
I'll go fix this.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
I think it's one of those things where we as
fans do a terrible job of holding guys accountable for
what they're doing. Missing camp. You know, this is nothing
different than you don't study the first couple of weeks,
then you have your first your first quit first test,
(13:20):
and you don't do well. You're like, man, they didn't
really teach them matuial It's like, okay, but you didn't
get the syllabus until a week in the class. You
didn't buy the book until two weeks in the class, Like,
what did you expect to have happened? So I agree
with Steve Young, but we've just reached this place to
where athletes aren't held nearly as accountable as they should be.
(13:42):
And maybe there was a time the pass where they
were held too accountable, but in this case they are not.
All right, stuck Gotlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
All right, Mark Dominical join us momentarily. I think this
weekend is several fascinating things this weekend. Yeah, Bama Georgia
(14:04):
this weekend. You can't. You can't try and sell me
on other games coming anywhere near that level of overall talent.
And then the pro side, I think this Vikings Packers
game is fantastic, fantastic. I am gonna go which it's
this is a hard one now, right because now you
(14:26):
now he's like, you're in you go to the Packers games.
But any of us who watch sports, cover sports for
a living, we're like, man, you go to a game,
especially in that early window, and you miss all the
other games, then you got to go back and watch
all those other games. I guess maybe I'm asking buyer
this one because Byro will be working, so Byer gets
the benefit of watching all these games. I just I
(14:47):
looked at this weekend's games New Orleans Atlanta sort of
interesting Rams because their comeback win against the Bears. Like
I do want to see if Kayleb Williams gets any better,
like Jacksonville to go to zero to four, like you
out of thinks some change will be made, But there's
just not a lot in that early window, is there.
You know, Billy Tampa, you.
Speaker 13 (15:06):
Know Dallas playing on Thursdays, you know, takes up a
lot of air. Bill's Ravens is such a good game
on Sunday night. That's another one. Uh So, so maybe
there isn't as much headlining. But Vikings Packers is really good.
The one thing that you should notice, Doug, And I'm
curious because you did go to the Colts game earlier
on Monday. Report back on the fans because there's a
(15:29):
Milwaukee game. It's a Milwaukee game, a gold Package game.
So if they're you know, tell us if there's any
difference from what you from what you heard, not it'll
be different because it's the Vikings.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
But Vikings, Yeah, that's it's a really good it's a
really good game to be at.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
But it is also really hard. It's a very hard,
very difficult one for me because you guys know my
fandom towards Sam Donald. Plus I actually know them a
little bit, like them a great deal. So it's like
the Vikings are the like second rated arch enemy of
the Packers and yet like their quarterback is I think
this is a great feel good story. Plus personally I
know him, he's an awesome dude. Mark Dominic joins us
(16:03):
here on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
You know, I was actually having a conversation Mark earlier today.
It is kind of interesting. Remember when Brian Billick was
there and they lost the NFC Championship game. Randall Cunningham
had a rebirth in Minnesota. Warren Moon had a rebirth
in Minnesota. Rich Gannon was drafted as a defensive back.
(16:24):
He first made it kind of in Minnesota. Who else
am I thinking there's some of oh Kirk cousins right,
kind of resurgence in Minnesota. What Farv had a rebirth
to his career in Minnesota. What is it about the
Vikings They've they I mean, Dante Culpepper was good for
a couple of years. They haven't necessarily nailed it in
the draft, but in the bounceback careers they've done quite well.
Speaker 14 (16:52):
Yeah. I think there's a secret in their dougs. And
I think this secret is the same things that they've
stolen down in New Orleans. And that is, for the
most part, instead of drafting the young rookie and saying,
let's let's develop the young rookie. You've seen the Saints
over the last twenty twenty one I know Drew Brees
is part of it, but the cars at also too saint,
so he's a high pick on a quarterback. They go
out and say, hey, look, let's go find a veteran
(17:14):
and have him come in here and play, and that
way we don't have to go through the achs and
pains and we get to see what he can be
in Boom. It seems to be working for Mickey Loomis
is he's the longest tended GM in the league by oh,
you know, twenty plus years as a GM. I think
the Vikings have found the same kind of a pot
of gold where they're like, why even though they just
drafted the young quarterback. I think there is something to
be said about, you know, instead of trying to you know,
(17:34):
swing and miss or swinging hits, to go grab the
guy that's still got some talent and go put him
in the roster. So you know, it's not the water.
There's ten thousand lakes, but it's not the water. I
think it's it's more of a I think this one
is the fit, and I think to your point, Sam
Darnold's a hard working dude, but he's also in the
same offense for two years row, and that has obviously.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Paid off dividence, no question, no question. I don't think
people understand when you have a different offense every year
and one that doesn't fit your skills. This one does too,
because you know, you got to get out on the perimeter,
on the you know, play action fakes and on those boots,
and that's that fits right into his skill set. And
he seems to be really comfortable. Plus they have talented players,
(18:13):
and I think they have talent around him, not just
a coach who is a quarterback, but I mean, you
got as too good a wide receivers as you're going
to find. All right, let's get to last night. I
had a takeaway that was maybe different than yours. I
don't know. It's we are holding the Cowboys to an
expectation the past couple of years where look, this team
(18:34):
was built I think initially with the intent of keeping
Dak Prescott on his current contract, and that current contract
had the biggest cap number in the history of the league,
and so that hurt their ability to support it with
a ton of talent. I just don't think they're that good.
Like it doesn't mean they're bad, but they're not twelve
or thirteen wins, good like they were the past couple
of years.
Speaker 14 (18:55):
Well, I think the big thing that they struggled with
is kind of what you talked about, you know, they
talked about being all in and in. They had to
make a lot of business decisions of people to keep
and people let go, of the people to hold on to,
and and be able to really add anybody outside of
the organization. And this because they were in the middle
of this contract trouble with the different guys, They're still
not completely through the woods. Even though you know, mikel.
(19:17):
Prson is obviously getting down so a little bit now
it sounds like that's another player that they're going to
have to figure out how we're going to get this
guy done at the highest rate to pay in the
league as well. So it's it's a tough situation that
they're in, There's no doubt about it. I I really
thought that they would walk away with this game. I
really thought that, you know, you know, I've been seven
Cowboys apologists for probably way too long now, but I
(19:38):
think I thought that this is a game that you know,
Dallas went by. I thought it could have actually the
double digits, and you know, they have a chance to
be up by at least eight. They just could never
close the deal. It's a team that's underperforming. I don't
think it's the talent so much. Is I just feel like, uh,
you know, it's been obviously up and down with Mike
Zimmer and the defense. And Mike's been around for a
long time, knows what he's doing. But they keep going
(19:59):
with different players different spots, you know, whether it's you know,
a guy like the Moon Clark played last year at linebacker.
This year it's you know, it's Neeland, which is fine,
he's a you know, or overshown. There's different guys, but
it feels like they're still trying to figure out what
this roster is defensively.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Uh and how how, I'm sorry you're up Mark.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
How.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
What's the main difference from Zimmer and what they were
doing previously.
Speaker 14 (20:24):
Well, I think it's it's I don't know if it's
a it's they're going to play a little more zone
sometimes in this defense. But I think the bigger thing
is having known both guys and then you know, I'm
a Zimmer fan. I actually interviewed Zimmer for a head
coaching job when I had a head coaching job available,
but I also tried to hire van Quinn multiple times.
These are two completely different type of coaches, and I
(20:44):
think they're missing the dan Quinn personality.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Agreed, Agreed, We said that. I mean, we have the
tape somewhere with me saying I don't think people understand
what they're losing in a dan Quinn. I mean you're
losing and he's he was the architect of a defense,
and now you have a different architect of a defense,
and the build specs and the style is going to
be very, very very different. Let's let's bounce around the
(21:08):
league a little bit. How do you explain the rams
ability to get a win last week?
Speaker 14 (21:15):
Well, I think they just took advantage of a team
that probably took them for advantage. Like they probably looked
at the Rams and go, ok, they weren't a good spot.
Here were the forty nine ers. Obviously, you know they
were one and one going into it. It was just
a you know, for the four years to jump out
with that kind of a lead and then to just
let it trickle away is very I think they got
(21:35):
comfortable and I think that they were in there going okay,
we've got another debut here, we're gonna be a good shape,
and obviously when they're up twenty one to seven, things
really started to change for him. It was it was
a shock. I watched the game. Rock Pertty played really
well throughout the entire game, so it was like it
wasn't where he was struggling and they were able to
run the ball fairly effectively. So this was just to me,
like the defense just had a lapse and lets some
(21:56):
plays just develop and then that's where you know, the
Rams just took advantage. It wasn't like the Rams controlled
the block. I mean, this was just you know, great
opportunities and miss Field was a big part of it
for the forty nine ers as well, that that kind
of came back to haunting, But I think it was
just a team that kind of felt like they were
going to win and put it on cruise control and
ended up giving up big plays down the stretch for
quick scores.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Are you a buyer long term? And in my long term,
I mean this season into justin fields with the Steelers.
Speaker 14 (22:24):
I still feel like as good as he's played and
better than I thought he was, it's got to give
him credit. He's absolutely you know putting him at three
and oh at this point in chances for going to
be at four to o possibly with the Colts. I
still feel like Russell Wilson is going to find a
way to get back on the football field, you know.
But you know what Justin Field has been able to do.
It's hard to kind of battle. It's it's one of
those things where you sit there saying, hey, he's you know,
(22:46):
it makes me more look at the Bears. It makes
me more look at you know, what's going on with
you know, Caleb Williams. And maybe everyone's overrated that offensive
line and maybe that's really the truth. And that's where
you know, Justin Fields is like, hey, you played by
better offensive line, I got a better view to beat
in the pocket and completing seventy seventy three percent of
his passes not even the same stratosphere as what he
(23:08):
was doing in Chicago. So you know, it's he may
not have the throwing touchdowns, but he's making good decisions
with only one turnover in the first you know, three games.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Yeah, yeah, I mean the team hasn't.
Speaker 14 (23:20):
The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing fundamentally. The defense is as
we know, I think elite but in terms of turn
on like they haven't had a fumble this year, Like,
that's how good they have played this year. They have
played exceptionally smart football, and that's why they're given up
what nine points a game and not having to score
more than twenty to win games.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah, well, they short and they're shortening the game too,
you know. That's where he has he has some layup
throws and if not, he runs it and they play
very conservatively and it shortens the game. And that's he
played the strength of your defense and they don't have
to be on the field as long as they're fewer possessions. Right, exactly, right, yep,
complimentary football, Okay, Bills Sunday Night against the Ravens. Ravens
(24:00):
have been rather unimpressive much of the year, although they
did just go beat the Cowboys on the road. They're
ones that took the foot off the gas against the Raiders.
Should have won that game. What are your thoughts on
Bills who They're in the middle of a stretch of
four road games in five games as they go to Tech,
they go to the Texans next, the Jets, home to
the Titans, and the Seahawks. What are your thoughts on
(24:21):
Bill's Ravens.
Speaker 14 (24:23):
Yeah, I kind of feel still, I mean securious obviously
stepped up quickly for the Buffalo Bills as a player
that was kind of on the roster and stepping up
a little last year. But when you I like the Bills,
you know when you're averaging almost what thirty five forty
points a game in that range. But the thing that's
different about the Bills is this, This is the Allen
that we all know. This is the guy that we
(24:44):
saw a couple of years ago that's back in business
right now. But it's also Cooks. Team. Cook has taking
a big role into obviously running the ball, but to
be able to catch the ball as well. He is
absolutely taking pressure off of Josh Allen to be able
to make it so much easier for him to feel comfortable.
And when he's completing, you had a record pace of
almost seventy five percent of his passes. And again another
guy that's not turning the ball over. This Buffalo offense
(25:07):
is humming and the defense is a very talented defense too.
I mean, I think they're plus nine in terms of
sacks versus sacks allowed. They're plus nine, and they're getting
after the quarterback and they're not giving up the hits.
And so this is a total complete team right now. Yes,
it takes a Baltimore team. It's very much dangerous and
very scary to play just because you know that they
could come downhill on you pretty quick and then have
(25:28):
a good game. But I still think Buffalo is playing
exceptionally well and I lean towards the Buffalo Bills for sure.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Trader. That's the
voice of Mark Dominic, who, of course spent twenty years
or over twenty years in the front office is Nation
Football League. Most famously, he was the general manager of
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Speaking of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
they and the Saints were like feel good stories and
then they get stumped at home by the Broncos. What explain, Yeah, it.
Speaker 14 (26:01):
Was a hard game to understand in terms of what
happened there. I mean, this is a team that obviously
you look at that game coming into it saying how
they got to feel really good about their chances of
winning it, and then suddenly boom, they run into a
buzz all of the Broncos and you know, Sean Paygne
has obviously been the head coach of the Saints for
a long time. He knows that Buccaneers team pretty good.
He's been battling them for years and years and years.
(26:22):
I know it's not all the same players, but it's
still that same, you know, feel of what this team's
about and knowing that you're going to play in that
heat and ring the James and what that means. And
this one, you know, I think it came down to that,
really they struggled to establish themselves in terms of the run,
and that was a big part of it. But I
think the other part was is that, you know, Tampa
(26:43):
just didn't tackle well in that game. They they they
didn't finish it and convert drives. And I think that's
the other thing. That they really struggled under the third
down and they were oh too on fourth down. And
I think that's where the Bucks you know, where they
went for it or were they trying to get a
third down. They just were bad at that point in
the game, and that's what really cost them. That's what
the point weren't there for them because they just couldn't
get drives going or keep the drives alive and the
(27:04):
you know the Broncos took advantage of that.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Hmm. Let's get back to Caleb Williams. I know you
talked about the line, but we see the number two
pick absolutely light up Monday Night football, and that was
that was the guy whore you said. I clearim if
I'm wrong, but you like Jayden Dane is better right
before the draft I did. Okay, obviously there's some confirmation biased,
(27:29):
but how concerned should the Bears be?
Speaker 14 (27:34):
Well, I mean, I think you've got to be somewhat
concerned just because you know it's not the same with
what okay, going into taking Caleb aside, what will Levis
has done in Nashville is more concerned to what Caleb
Williams is doing in Buffalo in Chicago. Excuse me, And
I know Levis is in year two, but you know,
when you see a guy pressing and forcing and making
critical errors, that's one thing Caleb to me just doesn't
(27:55):
look comfortable. Caleb to me, again, this is what I
talked about, even with you, Doug before the draft. I
think he thought this was going to be easy, and
it's super hard to play this game. And that's why
you see thirteen sacks because you know, he's he's like,
this is harder than I thought. This is things are
happening faster than I thought they would. And so that
I think is part of the growing process hopefully for Caleb,
and that hopefully works through it. That arm talent and
(28:16):
the ability still is there. I'm not sitting there going hey,
time to close the book and Caleb Williams is now
a bust. It doesn't look like you said towards Bryce
Young or anything like that which was going on in Carolina.
But I think you've got to see over the next
two to three weeks that you've got to start to
see Caleb. The sacks need to come down. You've got to,
you know, get rid of the ball quicker, trust what
he's got to and if you've got to dump one
(28:36):
off for a bad incompletion, it is what it is.
But his accuracy can he also has been struggling. So
those two things are just staring in the face, going,
you know, this is what you were concerned about. But again,
I think he just needs a taste of some success.
And you know, the week one was nice, but that
was hand delivered on the platter. You know, this last
loss was pretty bad. With the Colts. I think it's
(28:57):
a long season for the Bears, but I'm not riding
the book on Caleb Blains yet. I need he needs
at least a half a season to watch and see
how he develops and see how he can grow early
in his career like.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
This, Mark, you're the best man. Have a great weekend,
are you guys? You guys safe. I don't know where
you're calling us from, but I know there's the hurricane
coming through you guys.
Speaker 14 (29:17):
We're in Nashville, Tennessee. Its range for it's nothing like
it was down in Florida, but it has rained twenty
four hours. We've got flash flooding everywhere. But it's not
anything as bad as what we seem to happen to
Florida or what's going on probably in Atlanta or Georgia area.
So it's rough. It's about as bad as what it
probably feels like a giant right now watching Sei Kwon
Barkley play for the Eagles as.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
A doctor crush. By the way, real quick, I know
being in Nashville, can you fix what Will levis? His
problem is where he just I mean just a one
or two moronic throws the game can you fix. Is
that fixable?
Speaker 14 (29:51):
My gut is it's not. My gut is that is
one of the things that made people kind of pass
on will Levis and why he fell to the second round.
My gut is that, you know, he's got the from
the neck down. He's an absolute NFL quarterback from the
neck up. You know, there's there's concerns about, you know,
miss firing, and I feel like that's what we've seen
(30:11):
and from the coaches to what their reactions are. I
don't think this just happens in games. I have done.
This happens in practice as well.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Mark Dominic, former gentlem manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
spent over twenty years in front officers scouting as well.
He knows it all and he shares it all with
us right here on Fox Sports Radio. Mark, have a
great weekend, stay dry.
Speaker 14 (30:28):
Enjoy the game, Buddy.
Speaker 11 (30:30):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio every day at this
time in the Doug Gotleep Show live at the Tireck
dot Com Studios, we hand the reins over to Dan Byer,
and he leads us to a game.
Speaker 11 (30:52):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
What do you got there, Dan, Doug?
Speaker 5 (31:04):
The game today is I got DIBs? All right?
Speaker 13 (31:08):
This is where I throw out a topic. We have
three of them today and we just, yeah, try to
get DIBs on who we like within these subjects. Subject
number one. Topic number one, what team in any sports?
What team relocation in any sport that you'd like to reverse?
What team relocation you'd like to reverse to have that
(31:31):
team go back to its original city, not all at
one time, guys, I'll take the Expos.
Speaker 5 (31:38):
I'll take the Expos from DC.
Speaker 13 (31:41):
Yes, go back to Montreal, absolutely, because of everything that
is great about that hat of just the Expose.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
Absolutely. I think the Nationals are.
Speaker 13 (31:54):
A pretty non descriptive team, even with the World Series
five years ago.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
You kind of have a team in our nation's capital,
in America's pass.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
Well, we didn't for a long time, and we were
fine with it.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Okay, but we have one. The It wasn't like the
Expos existed forever, right, It was like a twenty five
thirty year project.
Speaker 13 (32:12):
Well, in my in my life, they they did when
I was born the Expos were there, so when they left,
I didn't know a world without the Montreal Expos. But
I like having the Montreal Expos. I would take the
Expos back to Montreal.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
I fine, I'll take the Grizzlies back to Vancouver. Vancouver,
Canada getting some love. Vancouver has changed and evolved, international city.
It's an amazing port. And oh yeah, by the way,
if you you might not have to have a team
in Seattle, but if you do have a team in Seattle,
and he got a team Vancouver, and he got a
team in Portland, like you got a real Northwest Division there.
(32:47):
I'm gonna go Vancouver, get the Grizzlies back.
Speaker 10 (32:50):
I got TIBs Okay Raiders back to Los Angeles, Woo
Raiders back to LA and then I don't know if
I can put in a dun them on those the
Chargers back to San Diego. I want, I want. I
want it to be nineteen eighty three again, That's basically
what I'm telling you. I want it to be eighty three.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
I like the I like the Chargers back to San Diego.
Although I don't know if you saw they sold twenty
seven percent of the Chargers and their evaluation is over
five billion dollars. I mean, here, here's the thing. The
reason the Chargers moved is the valuation. Right, they were
like a billion dollars. Now they're worth over five It's crazy.
(33:29):
But I I do think the Raiders fit Vegas. I
think Raiders in Vegas works works.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
Sam, And you want to DIBs on any of these
or move on.
Speaker 8 (33:39):
I like the Chargers one, definitely. You know they were
it was just yeah, I'd fit down there. And I
get it, it's money, and it's money, better money.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
But man, an.
Speaker 8 (33:49):
Excuse to go down to San Diego on catch a
game is a is a good excuse. And I saw
the last game at qualcom is Iowa's win over USC
and the Holiday Bowl and then they demolished it.
Speaker 7 (33:59):
You know.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
The one issue you have with like the Titans moving
back is that there's already the Texans already there. Yeah,
need them, you know, But that back when they were
the Oilers, colors were amazing.
Speaker 13 (34:11):
I also considered just to go way back with the
Colts back in Baltimore. Yeah, but Baltimore has seemed to
move on, to have moved on from that two Super
Bowl wins I think they're good with it. I think
the Ravens Now have been around longer almost I think
even longer than the Colts were in Baltimore.
Speaker 10 (34:30):
It sounds like each of us just wanted to be
nineteen eighty three again. We want terms of endearment to
be the best picture and then that the song that
had the has the best bridge in the history of
any song in the history of music. Every Breath You
Take by the Police was the top charting song in
iteen eighty three.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
You take all right, We'll go.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
It's kind of a stalker song, though, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Yes, but it's got the best bridge and.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Movie you make I'll be watching you like it's kind
of creepy.
Speaker 7 (34:59):
I know.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
There's a lot of other stuff talking about Puffy ar
tag on the Guy anyway, but the.
Speaker 13 (35:06):
Uh that cover was so awful of the of Every
Breath You Take?
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Did he Yeah? He was so bad.
Speaker 13 (35:15):
Is it called missing You? Yeah, I'll be missing you.
But everybody loved it and it was not good at all.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
They were he had a lot of zuupa to him
like he had a lot of just put his stay.
Speaker 13 (35:27):
I understood it was for notorious big, but looking back,
listen to that song and tell me, like how that
is cheesy, really good.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Yeah, the whole deal.
Speaker 13 (35:35):
All right, So last topic, and I got dibbs. You
only got time for to today. Best wide receiver right
now in the National Football League.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
I got dibbs and Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
A very good pick.
Speaker 8 (35:46):
I got to go back to our first top. Mike
came running here and he said, I want I got
DIBs on the Rams going back to Saint Louis.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
And I don't know, that's very controversial. Well that's surprising
that he ran.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
So that's uh, that's what's to Saint Louis. Then go
back to Orange County, go back to niam Stadium, or
then go back to the coliseum where they played before
they played in Orange County, before they played in Saint Louis,
before they played in so.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Far, I'll take ceedee Lamb.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
Yeah like lamb.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
I like Lamb. I like Lamb.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
I like Lamb.
Speaker 8 (36:14):
And you guys know, I'm gonna go get DIBs on
Nico Collins.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
See in Iowa, guy.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
Who loves Nico Collins. No, he's just been blowing up.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
He's a little back day Clark because Galen Park and
she played wide receiver.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
And she can play the quarterback all the time.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Game quarterback out.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
This is game time on The Gottlieb Show, Doug Gottlieb Show,
