Speaker 1 (00:46):
Do you know what day it is today?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Of course I do, Doug. It's October the twenty fourth, No.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
No one week till Halloween.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
No, no, no, no, Jay Studio, what day day is?
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Jase to definitely your birthday? I thought it wasn't a
part of this bit. I already know the answer, So
I can I just say it out loud? Or do
you want to say it out loud?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
You can say out loud.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Today is Doug Gottlieb's first time coaching a basketball game
on the college level in front of live pride.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
That was a mouthful. I was going to say it's
game day. Was I was just gonna go with game day.
I thought game day was perfectly okay. But I do
appreciate that it's game I love What day is today?
Speaker 6 (01:33):
Game day?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
What what is day? Sammy? What day is today? Game day? Ah?
There you go, there you go, Okay, we'll get back on.
Get back to that at some point in the show.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
We're also where at Saint Norbert's.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah, we're playing Saint Robert's. I don't what is what
is Saint Norbert the Saint of That's what I'd like
to know.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I can, I can look that up with that that
will that be part of your pregame scouting report tonight?
Speaker 1 (02:03):
I don't know. It all depends on what is this
that if I can, if I can find a way
to put it all together.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Maybe that is where Lombardi's Green Bay Packers used to
have training camp back of the day.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Sure, well, I mean it's it's a ten minutes from
lambeau Field. It's it's in town. It's in the Pier,
which is the uh southern, yeah, southern, southwestern suburb, really
nice area of green Bay. But yeah, well, I don't know.
I've never heard of Norbert nor I don't know why
(02:34):
he was sainted. And what significance does Saint Norbert have
on us and on history? I'm not sure for me.
Really good team, really well coached. Coach Gresh played at
Green Bay, his son's their best player. They almost beat
green Bay last year, and this is the green Bay
team that won eighteen games, so it'll be it'll be
(02:55):
a really good challenge. And they they pushed and deliberately.
Speaker 7 (03:01):
Yes, Sammy, here's a little bit of irony here. You're
from Orange, California. Correct, there's a Saint Norbert Catholic church
in Orange, California. Kind of interesting, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Comes full circle and Stan and Saint Norbert himself was
a priest who founded the Norbertine Order in the twelfth century.
But apparently he could not go to his left, So
maybe that'll make it onto your scout and report tonight.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
St. Norbert was all right, huh, that's all right. Maybe
it was like Monogenobi montagebus left and only and I
went left and stayed left, and even when he went right,
he went left. All right, let's talk some cowboys, shall we.
As Jerry Jones said this on his on his radio
hit earlier this week about the play calling.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Well, we're designing bad plays or we're designing bad concepts.
The facts are that there's some of that, but there's
also some of the execution. There are some of the talent.
Speaker 8 (03:57):
I like our talent.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
I really do like our talent. I like our young talent.
But your young talent has a few more mistakes associated
with it than than if you are dealing with a
veteran player.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
So Jerry Jones says we're designing bad plays. The designer
of said plays is none of them. Mike McCarthy here's
what he had to say.
Speaker 9 (04:19):
I thought, Jerry all the time. You know, we've had
time to go through the cell scout, so I can't
really I didn't see the comments specifically, so but I
don't think we have bad callships of bad place, but
I'll go back and check.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
So it was one of those like, if we're real
with it, you guys, tell me what you heard, because
what I just heard and what I know to be
true is Jerry Jones just said they have bad plays,
bad concepts, and which is calling out his coach, and
his coach laughed at the comment the Cowboys, how's that
(04:57):
working out for you? Ah, I've never heard such a thing.
And again, as it relates to coaching, this is a
real thing.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
You know.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
My guys know, like, we're not saying anything any about
our players and definitely not say anything negative about our plays.
I can absorb any of the criticism if things don't
go well. But yeah, hey, think about how well that's
gonna go with me of one of our players, Like, hey, listen,
we lost to Saint Norbert's, but it was because we
had bad plays and bad concepts. Yeah, that's that's amazing.
(05:32):
That's crazy. Sound not just like Jerry Jones has said
stuff like that in the past. But then Mike McCarthy
literally laughing. Listen to Mike McCarthy's response.
Speaker 9 (05:43):
I thought that Jerry all the time. You know, we've
had time to go through the cell scout, so I
can't really I didn't see the comments specifically, so but
I don't think we have bad hanships a bad place.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
But I'll go back and check.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
I'll go back in check. Yikes this on the heels
of a ESPAN report that the players hate that the
fans are around, always around, and that he's you know,
taking them around. I will point out that's part of
the new business of sports where it's not just about
a ticket, it's about an overall experience. And if the experience,
(06:19):
you know, brings you into closer contact with the players,
then you know more people will probably purchase the set
experience that said, I mean, that's that's an interesting That's
just those two soundbites are all you need to know
about the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
Yes, I just thought of this, So there's there's another
piece to this, and I don't think we covered it
on the show. I know it was covered last week,
maybe earlier this week. Remember Troy Aikman went on the
radio and said this about the receivers.
Speaker 10 (06:47):
But I think the routes are terrible. I think they
run terrible routes. And I thought that beyond this year,
and I think Sadie's got to improve and his route running.
And as a quarterback, if you're not certain where guys
are going to be consistently, it's hard, it's hard to
play the position. And so that's that's what I see.
I see guys lazy coming off the line of scrimmage.
Sometimes they sometimes they run. Usually if they do, it's
(07:10):
because they're anticipating they're going to get the football in
that play. But if they're not, they don't, and it
all ties together.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
So that's that's Troy Aikman put it in on the players.
Jerry Jones probably took that personal because he's he's responsible
for the players. And then he turned this into a
coaching thing. And then Mike McCarthy basically said, Jerry can
say it to my face if he wants to.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
It's an all timer. They put the discs in dysfunction
and look, this is what happens when you lose is
people question it and the bad programs are bad organizations
fall apart. I don't think there's been lots of people
to talk about Jerry Jones and being a GM. He
doesn't make the GM calls. You know, he'll negotiate deals.
(07:54):
He's kind of the figurehead. But the reality is they
have a really good staff. They have they've had really
good players. They have some injuries, and i've they have
some imbalance in terms of their salaries. They've had an
offensive line that retired, they had and that's been replenished.
And then defensively, the lost or defensive coordinator brought in
Mike Simmer. I don't think that's worked. But this is
(08:17):
the height of distraction. Now how many times have we
heard from NFL coaches, football coaches in general, by no distractions.
Your owner is being a slight distraction, and then your
head coach added to that, did not take away from
said distraction. Okay, the good news is they have an
(08:37):
easy game this weekend against a desperate forty nine Ers
team that does is depleted by injury. How the Niners
done against the Cowboys previously? I think you know the
answer to that.
Speaker 6 (08:47):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports. Right now, the NBA is
officially looking into seventy six ers resting policy for center
Joel Embiid after missing all of the preseason, and Beid
also set out the one twenty four, one to nine
loss last night to the Bucks. The team announced today
or assue me Tuesday that he won't play in any
of its three games this week, but certainly isn't the
(09:19):
first year the Sixers have tried to be careful managing
the former MVP's workload. He's never logged more than sixty
eight appearances in a single season. However, it appears Philadelphia
and as best players are pushing things even further this season.
ESPN's Tim Bodtemp's got this quote saying, quote, I would
probably never play back to backs the rest of my career.
(09:40):
That's from that's from Joel Embiid. He also made other
changes and effort to stay healthy, such as shedding twenty
five to thirty pounds and playing with the brace on
his left knee. While the league's new rest rules curve
to the extent to which teams can proactively rest their stars,
there are various exceptions. Injury history falls under the category
(10:02):
and could potentially apply to Embid. In other words, the
seventy six is already setting in place a plan to
not play Joel Embida ton this year, and even though
there's this new tough policy, the fact is that because
he's been hurt so often previously, he's got to get
out of jail. Joel free card he's got. He's got
a note from his from his doctor. That's what it is.
(10:22):
You won't play pee today. I can't. I got a
note from my doctor. Mister Doug Otlabs show here on
Fox Sports Radio. You know what I need, guys, I
need to get some intro music. We got to decide
on the show what my intro music would be. And
maybe I'll just steal his intro music. Mark Medina's our
(10:44):
Fox Sports Radio NBA insider. I mean this is pretty
good intro music.
Speaker 8 (10:51):
I don't know, Doug. I ackree. I love the intro music.
Look into it. Dome is two million dollars. It's amazing.
Got all the bells and whistles, but them have this
interest song. So that was better.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
It doesn't okay, let's let's talk into it. Nome the
Clippers for people who aren't from Los Angeles. People aren't
from Los Angeles. This is forty years in the making.
Forty years in the making. Right the Clippers went. They
were good under Larry Brown. Right, and one they played
(11:24):
in Sports Arena and two the NBA Playoffs. That year
they had to play in the Anaheim Convention Center because
there were riots in La they're all real stories.
Speaker 8 (11:34):
Right.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
The pond of Anaheim where the Ducks play was actually
built to get the Clippers. And Donald Sterling said life
starts and ends at the seven to ten Freeway. I'm
not going to Orange County. So they've and they've been
the third tenant in Staples. They finally got an arena.
It's the best one in the league. Yet they don't
have a very good team. And Kawhy's is hurt your
(12:00):
thoughts on the juxtaposition of finally getting an arena in
LA and yet you don't have a championship caliber team.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
Yeah, it's very fitting. It's very Clipper like. You know,
you go back to Lob City think hey, you have
the perfect team that can contend for a championship, and
then injuries and personality conflicts get in the way. I
think the best way to describe into it Doome is
that it's an amazing arena. It's very modern, has every
amenity you want. That wall student section reminds you of
(12:32):
it's not a student section, but that wall section reminds
you of college basketball student section. So they have everything.
Perfect arena. Only problem is the Clippers playing it. And
to your point, you know, they didn't bring Paul George
back because of the financial ramifications, and Kawhi Leonard once
again has injury concerns and when he's going to be
available to even play. But the other juxtaposition is is
(12:57):
because tylu is such a masterful coach and they don't
have great players, but good players. It's not like they're
going to tank and be the worst team in the league.
But there is a very good chance they don't make
the play in tournament, don't make the playoffs. Frame of reference,
when Kawhi was out for his ACL injury, you know,
while he recovered the whole season, they were competitive, they
(13:20):
had roster depth, they even had Paul George, but they
only got to the playing game and then they lost
the playing game because Paul got COVID. So it very
well could be a recipe with that. But internally the
Clippers will say, look, they got James Harden. He can
become the number one guy like he was in Houston.
They do have roster depth, They're going to have more,
you know, expanded roles with Norman Powell to beat the zoopbot, etc.
(13:43):
But as with everything since twenty nineteen, it starts and
ends with Kawhi Leonard and that hasn't been a good
thing because that includes uncertain health.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yeah, let's go go over to LA. It was only
two minutes, so they got it done. Are we going
to see Brownie James the rest the year?
Speaker 8 (14:01):
I doubt it. He'll still be with the team practicing
on the bench, but I think until November. November eighth
is the calendar to look at because that's when the
G League season starts, and as soon as that starts,
I think he's primarily going to be with the South
Bay team. Now, you know, because he is on the
actual roster, has a guaranteed contract. He I want to
(14:25):
be surprised shuffles back and forth, maybe even travels with
the team during road trips just to practice. But I
think the mo is that because what we've seen with
him as a player that he has a lot of
deficiencies and the only way to at least address some
of them is they get playing time. So with that,
anytime there is a G League game, I fully suspect
that he'll be a part of that.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Stug Out Leaps show here on Fox Sports Radio Lost
in the Brownie James two minutes was Holy hell, Anthony
Davis is good.
Speaker 8 (14:55):
Yeah, oh.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Have Do you think the basketball world has done a
good enough job understanding his level of dominance?
Speaker 8 (15:07):
Well, I think, frankly, he's taken his game to another
level the last two seasons because we always saw flashes
of it. Obviously we saw it during the championship run
in the bubble in twenty twenty, but it was always
attached with well can he stay healthy? Every time he
would fall you would win. Some think Okay, this is
the end of it. He's out for a few games.
Sometimes he'd get back up. Sometimes he won it. And
(15:30):
while I'm not going to ever be naive and think, okay,
he's going to be mister iron man, he has had
a track record basically since January of twenty twenty three
that he hasn't had a major injury, and that has
coincided with him playing his game at a much more
aggressive level. He's always been a great defensive player, but
you felt like he's taken even greater ownership and offensively,
(15:53):
He's done things we've seen before, but he's a lot
more aggressive, and I would suspect that this is what
we're going to see moving forward. You add the fact
that he's been miffed that. You know, he fell fourth
and Defensive Player of the Year voting and he did
go Kainse Rudy Gobert, who's been that four time winner.
It seemed like every defensive stop he made was a
direct message to that. And even when he is not
(16:16):
playing Minnesota, I suspect that that's going to be in
the back of his sode.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
We saw the Bossons Celtics just lamb based the New
York Knicks a lot of different things to get to
Let's start with the New York Let's start with the
New York Knicks. Obviously that's not the initial performance they want.
But talk around the league, do people think this is
a team that could legitimately take down the Celtics.
Speaker 8 (16:41):
I don't think take down the Celtics. When I talked
to a few GM's assistant coaches before the season started,
it was a feeling that, yes, New York got better.
At least the people I talked to thought, you know,
the karl Antone Towns trade was helpful for them. Even
though he's not considered a great defender, as far as
what his versatility is as a big man offensively is great.
Jalen Brunson is going to continue to do great things,
(17:03):
and they have a good supporting cast and Tom Thibodau
is a good coach. But the feeling was, it's not
like it's the Golden State Warriors during Kevin Durant's time
there where's inevitable they're going to win a championship. But
the Celtics were the predominant favorite and they didn't foresee that.
You know, they're going to be challenged barring major injuries
to any of their core guys, but there's not a
feeling that's going to hapen because they're all young, in
(17:24):
their prime and fairly durable. Obviously, Chris os Porzingis has
injury history, but he's a third option that whether he's
healthy or not, that's more of a luxury than a necessity.
So I think you fast forward to June, we're going
to see Boston hoist up another trophy.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Okay, where are we with the Golden State Warriors. They
just kind to kind of play this thing out with
Steph Curry. Is that just like this, let's just play
and not worry about it. And when he see how
how much we get out of Steph.
Speaker 8 (17:53):
Yeah, basically, I mean they're going with the whole man rotation.
They're trying to embody strengthen numbers, but without the fact
that they have all this other all star caliber talent
outside of Steph Curry. Everything starts obviously with him. He's
still playing at a great level, had a great offseason
obviously with that Olympic run, and you know, when you
(18:14):
look at their ceiling, I think that they're just one
of many teams that has a case to make the
playing or a SUC seed, and that's nothing beyond that.
But I think pragmatically, the Warriors only have that choice.
They're not going to, you know, start and rebuild without
Steph because he's still playing an elite level and he's
obviously a guy that brings revenue to the team. So
(18:36):
I think internally the feeling is Steph's going to be Steph.
You know, no one's ever going to think Draymond Green
is never going to get another technical or have an
issue with the ref but well, hanging fruit, there's reasonable
optimism internally that he's at least not going to get
major suspensions for punching a guy or dat him in
a chokehold, so he'll be more available this season and
they don't have great players, but they have decent rotation players.
(18:59):
You added it up and they feel like they can
still be a playoff team.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Did the Timbals get better or worse straight away? Karl
Anthony Towns.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
Yeah, obviously remains to be determined. Minnesota thinks that they
can make it work, but outside people think they took
a step back because I think there's a lot of skepticism.
Can the Julius Randall and Rudy Gobert pairing work because
of the floor spacing? You know one thing that Minnesota
does feel like.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Answer by the way, By the way, the answer is no.
Speaker 8 (19:31):
Yes, yes. And here's another thing to keep in mind here,
nas reed he's going to be coming off the bench,
but I want to be surprised that he's primarily part
of the closing lineups and the casualty is either going
to be Julius Randall or Rudy Gobert. That's going to
be interesting to watch. So yeah, they take a step back,
but the feeling was obviously this was a financially driven move.
(19:54):
They're trying to set up Anthony Edwards to have a
larger role. The last last season's lessons from making the
playoffs and not having enough to beat Dallas in the
West Finals. Is they got to improve their you know,
conditioning endurance that starts with ad so you know they're
going to be in the mix. But yeah, they're not
as good of a team with Kat there because he's
a great floor space or great perimeter shooter, great post
(20:15):
up guy. It's a much better fit. But they made
this because of financial reasons.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Yeah they did. They did financial reasons and not basketball reasons,
and I think that's you know, they're gonna end up
end up paying for it. You know, basketball reasons end
up kind of over overwhelming you there. Snug gotleap Shaw
on Fox Sports Radio. Kevin Durant is a fascinating, fascinating
like case study. You know, Uh, he just is. You
(20:41):
did an article about Kevin Durant. He's eighth on the
NBA's all time scoring Listen. I think if people ad
it up, remember, uh, he missed a ton of games
two different years, like the boat, broken foot in Oklahoma City,
the torn achilles tendon after the NBA Finals, right when
he was coming out of Golden State and going to
the Brooklyn Nets. What do people in basketball say about KD.
Speaker 8 (21:06):
Well, there's no doubt that. Obviously he has and always
will be. I think the game's most efficient score. Like
Tylou before the Clippers Sons game described him as a
walking bucket when reflecting on, you know, his time with
USA Basketball this summer and becoming the program's all time
leading score. There's no doubt that Kevin's going to continue
(21:26):
to play at a high level. It's just more about
can the Suns do enough defensively and have enough of
a supporting cast for them to make a run. I
think the supporting cast, you have a case Tyas Jones
could point guard. They finally have a traditional point guard
that can reduce the turnovers. But defensively they're very challenged
with Nurkic. But KD I look up these numbers after
(21:47):
talking to him, because he was saying, like, this is
the story about me. Look it up. You know, he's
eighth on the all time scoring list. He has only
eclipsed Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan for more games played.
Out of that list, he's fourth and career field goal percentage,
and the thing that he's at the top of the
list for is that he's done this while logging the
fewest amount of minutes, play in the fewest amount of
(22:08):
shot attempts, and so you know, usually when you're on
the high time scoring list, it's because you shoots a
lot of shots. Katie does shoot a lot of shots,
but the volume is a lot less compared to those
other scorers.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Yeah, yeah, Mark, great stuff as always.
Speaker 10 (22:22):
Man.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
We're so happy to have you back. We're so happy
to talk NBA season, and we're so happy to play
your intro music as which is your outro music as well?
Speaker 8 (22:30):
Love it Instead of all those things, Doug, appreciate you
and wish all the best with your continued coaching.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Thank you. Mark ton Loak had had a very unique voice,
by the way, to look still alive right he had
the Was it Young MC that had the epileptic seizure
at the at the Laker game? Or was it ton
Lok who had the epileptic seizure at the Laker game?
(22:57):
I cannot remember.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
All I know for a fact is that we've had
this conversation on the air almost verbati before I know.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
I know, but I'm getting that age where I need
to have things repeated to me that soon soon you
guys are be talking about me in front of me.
What are you gonna do about pop? Pop's got Pop's
got people coming over?
Speaker 5 (23:16):
So it's a mixture of two. It's a mixture of
two things you just mentioned. He indeed had the seizure,
but he is indeed alive.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Okay, So he had the seizure and he survived. What
does his voice sound like now? Like? That was his
voice probably in his twenties. Can you imagine his voice
now in like in his fifties?
Speaker 10 (23:36):
Amazing.
Speaker 7 (23:36):
He was also in ace Ventura. He had several acting
roles in the early nineties, which is cool. He was
a decent actor.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
I actually didn't know that.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
He was in one of my favorite movies of the nineties,
Remember Heat with pa.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I Love Heat? Yeah, of course Love Heat.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Pacino did a scene with him Tone Looke was at
a table. He probabed like a I don't know what
you would call him. I guess an ex ex con
or something, but he was great in the scene.
Speaker 7 (24:02):
He was in blank Check as well, kids movie ninety four,
and he was in Don't know the one. He was
in Poetic Justice with Janet Jacks.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Great soundtrack. That's back when we used to sam We
used to actually wait and buy soundtracks, because soundtracks are
great guy compilations. Yeah, screw was awesome. Now. I don't
know if anybody buys or cares about a soundtrack anymore.
I really don't. Yeah, the Timberwolves getting worse is a
real thing, a real thing where you know, it's like, yeah,
(24:30):
they saved some money and an extra year. But Julius
Randall does they were close last year. They don't feel
close now, don't feel close at all. Okay, so this
is a legit question, Sammy, what should my walkout music be?
What do you think?
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Oh man, hmmm, Well.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
We cannot ask Isaac on this one kills He'll come
up with something goofy. So it's not that I don't
love you, Isaac, it's just I know you come up
with something goofy.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
I literally have my finger on the button of the
goofy song?
Speaker 5 (25:00):
Darn it?
Speaker 4 (25:01):
Should it be?
Speaker 1 (25:02):
What's the goofy song?
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (25:03):
Go ahead, Isaac, I want to hear it.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
It's from the Disney cartoon.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Doug. That's not bad, I should yeah, Doug. Yeah, it's
kind of funny.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
A lot of people would would know exactly what that
was as soon as they heard it.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
You know, my, my, my, favorite cartoon is KYU So
I'm kidding.
Speaker 5 (25:31):
Oh god, what about doing the Dougie? Is there a
song called the Dougie?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
And then yeah, I played dum teach me how to Dougie.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
That's a good one.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
You got to know. You have to It's like weekend
at Bernie's kind of dance. You have to do that
every you have to do that.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
Every time you come out. No, you have to do
the back like the show.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
I will tell you if I if I do the Dougie,
then maybe Colin will call me out on it and
you know, become a thing on his show. I'm thinking
because because remember he called out John Wall for doing
the Dougie when he first got introduced with the Washington Wizards.
Like that's the reason John Wall didn't have a great
NBA career. Like, yeah, I'm sure I see the correlation there.
(26:14):
Here we go doug Yeah, yeah, what huh huh?
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Just wait for it.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
This cap was one hit wonder though.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Right.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Yeah, this is called Cali Swag District.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
It's Cali Swag District. I think that's perfect.
Speaker 7 (26:40):
I think I think it is from California, California, and
it said.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Like you come out to this bar right here.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
It's not bad. How about I got I got one
for Jatu might know I got one for jay Stee,
might know Jayce. Dude, do you remember that song the
l A Dream Team. It was like this, like a
classic eighties hip hop song, really cheesy but not bad.
(27:10):
We used to use it. We used to play it
like it when we were an AAU tournaments, when we
played in Seattle, we played in Los Angeles, we played
in Las Vegas, we played out out of the area.
It was the LA Dream Team and it was called
the dream Team is in the House.
Speaker 5 (27:24):
I vaguely remember that if I heard it, if we
could just access it, let me see if I can
put it somewhere. You got a dream Team.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
LA dream Team? Yeah? See, like as the crowd, the
start's not bad.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
Oh yeah, I like this.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
It starts not bad. Watch let's let's just say, oh,
this is that got a little max headroom to it,
you know, very nineties, very eighties, very nineties.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Yeah, I totally remember this song. This is this was great.
Speaker 7 (27:59):
I think this should be it. This has got a
groove in the house.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Okay, there's another one. What about Roger and Zapp do Diddy?
Roger and Zapp do a Diddy. Obviously you come out
to dre That's cool, it's kind of boss. It's la,
It's whatever. Roger and Zapp do Diddy? I think like
that gets me. That gets me, It gets my motor
run in a little bit.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
What year? What year was that out?
Speaker 1 (28:30):
Roger and Zapp?
Speaker 7 (28:32):
I love Roger and Zapp a aka Zap and Roger
any way you want to phrase it. They are every
All these songs make me want to get you to
do what? Just just just dance, man, you know, just
do what?
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Did I think it does make you want to dance?
This is that? That's better for a team introduction song?
Speaker 7 (28:51):
I think actually their influence is all over hip hop
and like late seventies R and B dance music.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
If you have suggestions, send them on Twitter at Gottlieb Show,
send them on Instagram at Gottlieb Show. We Need, We needed,
We needed like A It's like a walk up song,
right like come out, It's a walk up song.
Speaker 6 (29:14):

Speaker 3 (29:54):
What happens when you stick your head into a refrigerator?
Speaker 8 (29:58):
I feel a draft?
Speaker 6 (30:02):
I feel a draft.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
By the way, I haven't gotten do I feel a
draft age yet?
Speaker 2 (30:06):
You know?
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Or people who are thinks are drafty streight? I know
I I do wear cardigans. I like cardigans. Let's think
about me. Maybe I'll wear a cardigan tonight.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
You gotta do it. You gotta do it. You can't
go back now.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
Problem is my cardigan's blue like bright blue.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Oh it's not Phoenix colors.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
No, But the opponent tonight, say, Norbert's is.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Also green, so they are the Green Knights.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
That's right there in the name.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Doug.
Speaker 7 (30:35):
You know you you're getting to feeling a draft age
when I play the rest of what Estelle Castanza had
to say.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
I feel a draft.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
We have a boat.
Speaker 7 (30:47):
Order a hot dish, order a hot dish.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
I thought he said hot fish, order hot dish or
hot fish hot fish, the same thing. On this edition,
we will be drafting the most important players in the
World Series between the Yankees and the Dodgers. So we
got eight players that we can pick snake format, Doug,
your number one, Sam is second, myself is third, Jason
(31:12):
Stewart fourth, and then all the way back around with
our number one pick, the head coach of the Phoenix
sh try to contain my amazement. There's Sam Sotani.
Speaker 7 (31:27):
I'm going to go with the New York Yankees Game
one starting pitcher, Garrett Cole.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Interesting, Okay, Wow, interesting, all right, wow wow.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
This is going to be maybe controversial, but I'm actually
gonna go with the third pick. I'm gonna go Mookie Bettsky, Jason,
you got the next two.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Okay, So what's off the board? What did Doug go with?
Speaker 3 (31:53):
Show? Hey Tani and Samta, Garrett Cole and then me?
Is this like Pavlov's dog? Whenever you mentioned Otani, You're
going to say showtime. I thought so.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
All right, So just to get this straight, you guys
allowed the American League's most valuable player to drop into
my lap. I'm just sitting here at fourth trying to
be creative with my picks, and you guys just allow
Aaron Judge to come my way. So I'm going to
go with him with the fourth pick, and then I'm
going to go with a guy who has a high
ankle sprain. And if any of us have experienced a
(32:27):
high ankle sprain, I have. It is so painful. In fact,
you'll be surprised at how many people you'll encounter after
you do a high ankle sprain who say, oh.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
I had a highprain, it's better if you would have
broken it.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
Takes a while to heel it's better if you would
have broken it. I heard that ninety times after I
had a high ankle sprain. Thank you people for repeating
that that message. Freddie Freeman with the fifth overall pick.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Is it October?
Speaker 3 (32:56):
It's almost November?
Speaker 1 (32:57):
I know, I was thinking of all the things that
Jason Stewart.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
It's better if you if you broke it, you know,
one week from Halloween. Oh, it's my turn again. I'm
gonna go.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
One so to so, Sam you've got the seventh pick,
and then Doug, you wrap.
Speaker 7 (33:12):
Up, I'm gonna take a guy for the Dodgers who
is nothing but clutch hits and energy, Key k Hernandez.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Good good call there.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
That draft pick was called the Nico Collins of base
perhaps the Robert Ori. Yeah, all right, Doug last pick.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
I mean, obviously there's I could go either closer. I
could go. I go John Carlos Stanton, who had you know,
okay year, but outstanding postseason so far. But what I'm
gonna do is a little bit different, a little bit different.
I am gonna go with Chris Taylor.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Okay, I tell you why.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
I'm gonna tell you why. First, obviously, he's played the
World Series before, didn't have a great you know, has
a had always had a great season. But how good
was show hey tany? With nobody on jasetu?
Speaker 5 (34:10):
He at some point he was like, oh for twenty five.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Right, he did lead off one of the games, I
think it was Game five or Game four with a
home run, but he's, you know, with nobody on how
was he with runners on base?
Speaker 5 (34:22):
It was ridiculous. At one point it was something like
sixteen for nineteen. I think that the numbers are a
little worse now, but they're still ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Okay, he hits number one in the order. Chris Taylor
is number nine in the order. It's just the idea
of if Chris Taylor gets on, now you got a
problem because show time comes up next. Jeez, I'm gonna
say the bottom of that lineup is actually probably the
most important part of that lineup because of.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
It show hey is crisp when he has risp Ooh,
that's actually very good, Thank you very good.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
I don't know if it was very good, but it was.
It was fun.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
I feel compelled to adding a duendum to Doug's pick
only because I know there are Dodger fans screaming at
the radio as we speak. Gavin Lux is gonna play
second base more than half the time, so okay, I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
How Gavino, whoever hits the night, Yeah, whoever hits night.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
And listen, h's just as good too. Just got to
have somebody on. If you put somebody on base for
show heyo, Tani he he gets a hit fifty percent
of the time, not on base gets a hit fifty
percent time. The guy is ridiculous because you have to
pitch to him. If you have to pitch to him,
you're not gonna get him out. So, yeah, he is crisp.
(35:37):
When he has risp.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
It's growing on.
Speaker 5 (35:40):
You notice the starting pitching missing from our draft other
than Garrett Cole. That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Why do you like the fact that we don't have
to sit here and go like, you know, this could
be the time Clayton Kershaw. This could be the one
Clayton Kershaw. Like, we're just past all that.
Speaker 5 (35:56):
But I will say I think he's going to start
in game too. I don't know if it's been announced officially,
but Carlos, Carlos Radon is helped me out without Isaac.
Radon used to be with the White Sox and the Giants.
I think he's pitched pretty good this year. He's a lefty.
I think that could be a crucial start game too,
if he's on the mountain.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
I mean, the Mets closer is nasty.
Speaker 5 (36:21):
Well, let's ask Sam who the Mets closer is. He's
a big apple, Sam.
Speaker 7 (36:28):
I don't want to go back to that dark time
and I don't know. Someone tell me, well, the Mets
closer is Edwin Diaz. Yeah, I have a poster in
my room.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Oh yeah, yeahs closer anyway, Luke.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
Oh yeah, Luke Clever, I have a poster in my room.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
Yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
People still have does kids still have posters in their rooms?
Speaker 7 (36:58):
I had am Elijah Wan poster in my room that
I got for free in like a box of honey
Crisp Cereal.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
We were talking about we were talking about Dougs come
out songs. I think Luke Weaver, if they haven't already
done this when they announce him coming out next year,
they could just go with dream Weaver.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
Josh Barnett says, I should do Eminem lose yourself, although
I think Obama may have ruined that for me.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
Right, Thanks a lot, Obama.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Thanks Obama, Thanks Obama. That's the Gottlieb Show. That is
game time.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
This is game time on the dog Gottlieb Sho.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
