It's actually a beautiful, warm day in Wisconsin. We're at
(00:38):
seventy seven degrees or breeze coming in from the west.
Well Indian summer. It's Colin Coward used to like to say,
this is global warming. Now I'm gonna buy a hummer
and leave it running in my driveway. Right, Yeah, I'm bad.
He also used to say that Jordan Love couldn't play football.
But listen, dig I digress. We got a lot to
(01:02):
get into. Ooh, I like this topic and we got
buyer's remorse up coming in twenty minutes. I already expressed
some of my own buyer's remorse. But how do you
feel now personally? And while ask the guys, I give
my opinion a second and you can share this with you.
How do you feel now about Russell Wilson? My feelings
about Russell Wilson for a long time have been super cheesy,
(01:27):
not really relatable, you know, almost almost like a caricature
of what a star quarterback is supposed to be, right,
like there's just no real person there, but always really
good at throwing on the move, and every Russell Wilson
game in Seattle seemed to be on repeat. It was
(01:48):
Russell would have the ball, they'd be down a couple points,
and he'd run around and make plays, and more often
than not they'd win games. There'd be a lot of
pedestrian stuff during the meat of the game, and then
end the game he'd find a way to pull a
rabbit out of his backside. But that's generally, and I
know there's more to it than that, but that's that's
kind of the thirty thirty thousand feet belief. And Dan, respectfully,
(02:12):
because Dan watched every one of his games. He's a
huge Seahawk fan and has a far more educated opinion
on Russell Wilson than I have. But I will say
that if you asked me before last night or before
he's he got the starting job back, and I said
it on the radio, did I think Russell Wilson is
quote unquote good, I'd say no. I think he's passed
(02:32):
his prime. I don't think that he's a guy who
you can count on. I don't think the Steelers have
their quarterback for next year. And then last night he
played really well, which did it make me rethink my position?
Of course? Of course, what I've never understood about politicians
is no one, very few of them have the ability
to go like you know, you know twenty years ago
(02:53):
you said, like, yeah, it was twenty years ago. I
right rethought my positions. The world. Life has changed, I've changed,
the world's changed, and some of the semantics of these
things have changed. Very reasonable. It doesn't mean that I'm
coming down off of my high horse thinking, you know
what I was wrong. Russell Wilson's going to be the
starter for the next ten years in Pittsburgh until you
(03:15):
choose to retire. But if he plays as well as
he played last night, then you got a starting quarterback.
What I think we're gonna find is what you find
from some man of these older players, and I'll relate
it to the best one is Shaquille O'Neal. Do you
guys remember when the Miami Heat beat the Dallas Mavericks
in the NBA Finals. That NBA Finals, Shaq was on
(03:40):
the Heat. Most of the discussion was over Dwayne Wade,
the MVP. Anytime he did anything, he got to the
free throw line, like the free throw disparity was just ridiculous.
It's like the NBA like Dwayne Wade so much they
wanted to make him into a superstar. That's what a
lot of people thought. But what's lost in it was
remember Shaq was on that team as well. And Shaq
only had is a six game series. He had one
(04:02):
dominant Shaquille O'Neil game. So what happens when you age
is you don't just usually go from being good to
off a cliff. You go from being good to well.
And look what even when you're great, even when you're
Mahomes like Mahomes, you know, four games in five he's incredible.
(04:25):
One game in five eh one game in ten. He
might be like Man Mahomes was bad today, and then
the best of the best find a way even when
they're bad, to somehow figure it out and keep you
competitive at the end. He does that really well. The
ratio changes slowly over time. The point is that if
you go back to previous NBA Finals. In the NBA Finals, MVP,
(04:46):
if the Lakers played four or five games, three or
four of those games, he would be dominant Sequille O'Neil
when he was longer in the tooth. His last NBA
Finals with the Miami Heat, it was one out of
six games when he was Shaquille O'Neil, and after that
couldn't really help you. I think this is more of
a ratio thing with Russell Wilson. You go back three
(05:07):
four years ago, four or five years ago, it was
three games in five to four games in five that
he was really really good. Maybe one of those four
he was outstanding. Maybe two of those four he came
through late in the game with the play, even if
he was just average during the regular meat of the game.
And now a couple of years later we're into the
(05:28):
he's had two starts last game was, Eh, this game
is pretty good. And if we have five starts, there
might be one more pretty good and two more eh.
You know, very rarely do you go from being an
all pro pro Bowl level quarterback two can't play dead. Now, Look,
(05:50):
once it goes, it's gone. It's not coming back. But
I don't think it's gone. I just think he's not
as athletic as used to be. He's obviously lost some weight.
They simplified the play book because he does have a
tency to hold onto it too much, and he's got
some down aroundhim. They established a running game. He was
good last night, but they're not going to handle the
ball and say, you know, go empty backfield and go
(06:11):
oop to oop and let him just pick and jews
and pick a team. Part that's not who he is. Byer,
you've seen at least ten x the number of Russell
Wilson games I've seen. What are your thoughts on him?
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Well, you know this this whole scenario, and it's not
even the Russell Wilson specifically. I think that's even a
part of this whole whole scenario. It's number one, Russell
Wilson having the success that he's had in the last
couple of games has shown just again on how much
the NFL is dependent on the passing game and quarterbacks
(06:45):
in the National Football League. We thought justin fields was fine,
and justin fields, you know, could have served the Steelers well,
But it is a difference when you can just throw
the football downfield and have someone you know do it
in a competent fashion. He is You're correct, He's not
the same quarterback that he was with the Seattle Seahawks,
never will be. The mobility is not there. There's not
(07:06):
going to be any runs for Russell Wilson. When he
tried to run last night, it was a disaster in fact,
so that's off the charts. But to your point, if
he can just play well enough, whether it be in
three of five games or four of five games, and
get the ball to George Pickens and get the ball
to Pat Fryermouth and Najie Harris continues to run like
he does, they're gonna be fine, and they're going to
(07:29):
be in the thick of it now with the again
expanded playoff, maybe this will be the last year. I
say expanded Playoff because it'll been there for a while.
But mediocre teams getting to the playoffs, and when you're
sitting there at six and two right now, you're leading
the division. I'm sure they feel they have bigger fish
to fry, but worst case scenario, they should be right
there for a wild guard at the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
So I agree with you on all all of those fronts.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Can I give you another layer of this because it
has to do and I actually said this on the
I Want Your Flex podcast as well. The Pittsburgh Steelers
are who the New York Jets wanted to be. And
you had a defense, you needed to just have something
on offense. You needed to have some capability of your
quarterback to be able to do something with a good
(08:15):
running back and a target at wide receiver that you
need to get the football too. And this is before
the Devonte Adams trade. But be a defensive football team
and when your quarterback needs to make plays, he has
experience making plays. And it's been the exact opposite for
the New York Jets, and it has worked for the
Pittsburgh Steelers. The way that Pittsburgh won the game last
(08:36):
night is a way that I think that the New
York Jets would have loved to have won a game,
and if you needed Aaron Rodgers to go and save
the day, then maybe he could. But that ship has
seemed to pass. Their defense has completely fallen off, while
Pittsburgh is thriving at six and two with a recipe
that isn't too different than what the New York Jets
wanted to do.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
I don't know if I understand what you're saying about
playing off the defense, but they didn't try and build
running game first. They didn't, and I think acquiescing to
Aaron Rodgers so much offensively proved that it was a
bad plan. So I guess I'm going to agree and
(09:17):
disagree or maybe agree, but their plan was so out
of whack, right, like I.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
This is who they should be, but who they should be.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
By the way, it's who the Green Bay Packer. The
Greenyod Packers defense wasn't good enough, but if you saw
what made him into a multi time MVP in the
last stint with the pay with the Packers, once they
changed coaches, they became a team that ran the football
a ton. Yes, they had a late thirties quarterback and
they ran a ton. And he hated it because he
(09:46):
didn't understand exactly where he is now, they're like trying
to Aaron Rodgers wanted to be the old Aaron Rodgers
and run the old Aaron Rodgers offense. And one it's
little bit arcane. Two, he's not good enough anymore. He's
not that guy. He's just not.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah, this was their recipe for success. And you're not
that guy. Trust me, you're not that guy.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
No. I mean, like, look, it's I was watching the
Lakers last night and and Lebron looked old last night.
He just did. He got shut down really by the
kid from Virginia who's a really good rookie pro. I
forget his name, he's he's I like him. And it
was a weird game where the Sons got out to
a lead and the Lakers had a lead, and and
(10:31):
and I would I would actually say that, you know,
I do think that on some level, Lebron, even though
he can't stand it, can't help himself. He knows, like
Anthony Davis is probably the best or second best player
in the league when he's healthy him, he's right, he's unbelievable.
And you know, there they have a couple of other
(10:53):
dudes who maybe not maybe not at the level that
Anthony Davis or you know, Lebron James or whatever are.
But they got a couple others that can really really play.
I mean, actually one other that can really really play
in Austin Reeves. But I think Lebron is smartly for
(11:14):
the most part. He takes like, hey, I'm the third
best player on this thing. I just am. And that's
what Russell Wilson is kind of playing like like he's
the it's the defense, it's the running game, and it's
let me just make enough plays and get it out
to guys, Whereas Aaron Rodgers is still in the mindset
of if I play well, we're gonna win. Like we don't.
(11:37):
It's just not possible your age, coming off of this injury.
That's just not who you are. So I agree with
your point. I just think the whole their whole plan
was so out of whack and that's why they are
where they are.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
This was the this is the point that I made.
Maybe my word choice wasn't great. This was the path
to success for the New York Jets.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, no, no, you're you. I understood it, and I
actually agree with you. I just I think that it's
really interesting when you know people don't know who they are.
A franchises don't know who they are. And by the way,
it's probably why the Pittsburgh Steelers have been so successful
for so long that hey, like, we don't have a quarterback, Like,
(12:17):
all right, so let's build up a sick defense, get
a good running game, see what we can do, and
just and play off the defense, and we just get
good enough quarterback player. I mean, that's really what Mason
Rudolph did last year. Like Mason's a friend of mine,
but let's not act like Mason Rudolph is Johnny Unitis, right,
But he was just confident enough to get them to
win games. It became harder this year and they felt
(12:37):
like they need a little bit more and Russell Wilson
last night game a little bit more. So you're absolutely right,
and it's just it's gonna be I'm really interested by
what so many of these teams that need a quarterback
do this Offseason's who said Jamis Winston yesterday? Who said
somebody should pick up Jameis Winston, don't remember if that
was our show. I've listened to a lot of sports,
(12:59):
but like, these are these trends. You know, we went
through a everybody trying to get a rookie quarterback, and
especially a rookie quarterback outside the first round. And then
you look at Baker, you look at Flacco, you look
at Ian Jamis this year, you look at some of
these you we point out geno is not necessarily the
problem in Seattle. It's there's a world there where you
(13:19):
get those middle class quarterbacks that have achieved something or
failed somewhere else, and yeah, you don't You're not going
to be able to pay them a million dollars a year,
but you don't have to pay them thirty or forty
and fifty. And you put a good team around him.
Gotta know who you are, as as I think Dan
pointed out, and if you have a really good defense,
get competent quarterback play, be conservative offensively, just explosive enough
(13:41):
to take advantage of it. But that's that's the that's
the recipe for success. That's the that's the roadmap to success,
and it should have been for the Jets, and they
chose to God this round.

(14:28):
Before we get to that, let's get to a little
buyer's remorse.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Some have remorse.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior
I engagement.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
But there's nothing quite like buyer's remorse.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Doug, I would like to tell you that I thought
these Ohio State buck guys were just going to run
rough shot over college football. But like Jason is a
pessimist and cynic when it comes to the Dodgers, I'm
kind of the same way with the Buckeyes. And even
though they just have the one loss, the close loss
to Oregon, did not look great against Nebraska this past weekend,
and I think this Saturday is going to be really
(15:09):
tough against Penn State. So I can't even use the
Buckeyes in this but it is in college football. I
just again I love the expansion of the college football
playoff field. When I was a guy who again said,
if you want to move on from four, go to six,
but you can't go any bigger than six. And now,
(15:30):
and I know he's been talking about this all week
long because his love for this program, but Pitt has
a huge game against SMU on Saturday night and Iowa Sam,
you know how much he loves Pitt. He talked about
it on this show. This is a game in the
ACC that again has value because of the twelve team playoff,
(15:51):
and I just cannot underestimate on how it's made so
many more games relevant, way more than I thought would
be when you expand the field on just what would
be a normal Saturday night. I absolutely love it. There
are still holes in the system. I don't know how
many SEC teams are gonna get. I don't know if
the Big twelve should have an automatic buy the first week,
(16:12):
but just to make everything worthwhile, make more games worth
watching in the middle of the college football season. Job
well done by the powers that be in college football.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
It's interesting. I think it's a different sport between the ACC,
Big twelve and especially the SEC. Like, look, I'm a
Big twelve elum. I love what Brett Yormarck did to
save that conference. But I just I mean, Kansas State
(16:46):
and Colorado are not close to being elite teams nationally.
Speaker 6 (16:50):
What about BYU and Iwa State they're both undefeated?
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah, I mean, like you really think, like, like, what
does Iowa State finish in the SEC? Like, come on, man,
what are we doing where they finished in the Big ten?
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Gotta play the games in front of you though, well,
and the fact that those.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Teams that that's great, that's great, that is it has
nothing to do with what I just said. Zero. They
still don't. Yeah, but if you can the playoffs, Doug, yes,
because they're the better teams. They spend five times ten
times the money, they have, way better players. It's not close.
It's a completely different sport, completely different.
Speaker 6 (17:27):
I wouldn't want to watch a playoff that is nothing
but SEC teams.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
I just say, you and want to watch the good teams.
It's it's only because of the the conference that they're in.
That that's it. That's that's where your that's your brain block.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
I think I just want more representation across the country.
So if BYU comes and undefeated and they get smoked,
then still be it. But they still deserve to be there.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
But they probably don't deserve a first round buy That's
my problem with it.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
No. I mean, like, look, and I know Oakham to
stay beat Arkansas at home whatever, Oakle, let's say that
by you dead to right. It's like there, that's not
a good football game. They're depleted defensively and haven't been
good all year. I just there's no world. There's no
world in which BYU, SMU Pittsburgh just keep it throwing
(18:14):
out all the other ones that are in the discussion,
the Boise's of the world, like it's not close and
oh yeah, by the way, now, it's not like you
could get that one bowl game. You got to win
three games, zero point zero chance it happens.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
And the one other thing with this, it's going to
be a race for the five seed. And I have
no idea on how they're going to settle the five
seed because you're giving the automatic buyes to the conference champions.
Sure well, if you're if you have an opportunity to
face b YU or Iowa State, yeah you're gonna rather
have that And then you would play the the Group
(18:48):
of five champion in your first round game if you're
the fifth seed. So it's not automatic ticket to the
semi finals, but it's an easier path than maybe anybody
else would in that entire bracket. So there's a problem
with college football. But hey, I love meaningful games.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
I love him too. I guess the downside to him
is they are meaningful, but they may not mean as
much because, like we said, like Ohio State almost lost,
Nebraska did lose to Oregon, yet still in prime position
to get to the playoff. So all right, stuck Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Tradio. Let's get to John Morosi, Fox Sports Tradio,
MLB Insider. Of course, you can also see him on
(19:28):
the MLB Network, and he joins us now as we
could be, we could be, I don't know. Six seven
hours away from the end of Major League Baseball's season,
with the Dodgers up three games none on the New
York Yankees, John let's start game one walk off grand
slam Dan Byer, who he's like, I didn't tweet it,
but I have no doubt he's not a liar that
(19:50):
he didn't think it. He's like, I think it was
over right, then, how much did that all the things
that took place end of Game one take the air
out of the balloon of the New York Yankees.
Speaker 7 (20:01):
Well, we know this that the Yankees haven't recovered since,
and so we can only go on what we've observed.
I think two things can be true. The Dodgers have
been the better team. They are hitting better one through nine.
And I don't know that the way that Game one
ended affects the ability of Aaron Judge into baseball two
(20:25):
or three days later. I think that that sometimes might
be a bit overstated. So I think two things can
be true. That the Dodgers earn it. They've been the
better team. The Yankees have never really been back in
Games two and three because principally they're starting pitching has
not been good enough. And we can argue about why
that's the case. But Rodin in Game two and Schmid
(20:48):
in Game three, neither of whom was involved in Game
one in any way, shape or form, they just haven't
been equal to the moment in games two and three.
They have not gotten deeper enough into games, and they
haven't pitch well enough. And Judge is one of many
Yankees hitters, who is not doing enough in this World Series.
So do I think Game one was a game for
(21:10):
the ages that that probably in some way impacted the
overall energy of the series. Yes, I do. I think
it was that big of a game. But the Dodgs
have just been the better team because they're starting pitchers
in Games two and three have been better. If if
the Yankees had had had a better pitching performance from
each of their starters in Games two and three, they
(21:30):
might be one of the series two games to want
to be a fully different conversation.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Yeah, John, if heads I had two heads, I be
in the circus. Okay, If I be in the circus, okay.
With with that said, uh, what are you hearings going
on with Aaron Judge?
Speaker 7 (21:49):
I think a couple. First of all, what we're hearing,
what we're seeing, it's it's all the same, Which is
his timing is not there right now. His timing is
not there, And we can argue I don't buy the
notion that he's unable to perform under pressure, because he's
done that before numerous times. He had sixty two home
runs of the New York Yankees, and you can't do
(22:11):
that unless you're able to perform under pressure. But he's
just not delivering right now. I don't think he's hurt.
I'm not seeing that that's an issue. I think mechanically
he is off. There was a really great graphic on
the Fox broadcast last night that showed that his swing
has gotten too long, too long, too much of an uppercut.
And certainly I'm not a hitting coach, but you can
see that with the metrics that he is, his swing
(22:33):
is not on time. And the Dodgers, who have done
a really good job of executing, they believe they don't
have to give him a strike to get him out.
And I don't care if you're Aaron Judge or Babe
Ruth or anybody in between. If you are swinging outside
the zone repeatedly and not even making contact with those pitches,
you're just not going to see a strike because the
(22:55):
other team believes they can get you out without throwing
you ball on the zone. And so the Dodgers, and
you got to at Mark Pryor and their game planning group,
they've done an excellent job of identifying where they can
go on judge and where they can go on judge
right now, is a bigger area than in almost any
other point in his entire season, because he's just not
catching up to pitches, so he's out of sinc I
(23:15):
don't think he's hurt. I don't think he's any more
more to it than that that he's had. Certainly layoffs
in the month of October take him a long time
to get his swingle. I thought he had a decent
at bat last last time on the one flyout to Hernandez,
but he just is not He's not in sync and
if he doesn't get it figured it out very quickly,
it's going to be the end of the Yankee seaver.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
John Morossi are on Fox Sports Radio MLB Insiders joining us.
You can see him on the MLB Network as well.
He joined us in the Doug Gottlieb Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. The opposite of that is Freddie Freeman. Obviously,
you know home runs in five straight World Series games
which he's appeared in. Home runs in the first three
games to walk off home run And for those of
us who paid attention you started the playoffs with he
(23:55):
was all banged up and people are like, get him
out of the lineup. Well, how the heck, has he
gotten not just healthy but become the likely MVP of
the series.
Speaker 7 (24:03):
Well, I think it's exactly what he said to Ken
Rosendhal after the game last night, which is when Ken
asked them about what's happened. He basically said, the ankle's
feeling better, and as a result of the ankle feeling better,
he's able to do the work again. I think when
you looked at what happened in the first two rounds
of the playoffs, anybody has gone through a significant injury
in life or especially in athletics, and then you know this, Doug,
(24:24):
it's if you are if it's taking your entire day
to just get yourself to the point that you can
function on the field of the player on the court,
you're not really doing a whole lot of skill work
as well. You're basically just like investing your whole mind,
body and soul and just like being able to walk
out there and go to the post. And I think
(24:44):
that once his ankle started feeling better by the layoff
of that week, he was able to actually work on
a swing again. And he's not missing pitches. He's he
is not missing pitches in the way that judge is
just not getting them and not making contact on the
ones that he can actually drive. Freeman is getting a
couple pitches a game to drive and he's not missing them.
(25:04):
The one that he get out in Game one was
a high, high middle in hit me pitch and he
completely rocks it. Whereas Danton is missing some of those
pitches all of a sudden, You're just missing a lot
of them right now, and I think Freeman is just
executing in a really superior way. It's almost like it's interesting.
And I've heard different athletes describe this when they've gone
(25:27):
through an injury scare. It was a real injury that
Freddy had, obviously, It's almost like when you get back,
your focus is so basic and simple on just finding
a way to do the simple things well that it
almost narrows you in. I've had players and it's almost
it makes no sense. But I've heard people say they're like, yeah,
(25:47):
when I'm a little bit hurt, I played better. It
doesn't make any sense. It really does, you know?
Speaker 2 (25:52):
It actually does? It actually does? You know? Like this,
I've tried to tell people when you're sick, oftentimes when
you feel better when you're playing, then if you're just
kind of laying around, and then two, like you're not
thinking about all the other stuff, you know, all the
other mental hurdles or whatever. You're just thinking about me,
like I don't feel particularly good and I'm just trying
to get through it, And that ends up kind of
(26:13):
focusing you on just getting through it instead of worried
about all that all that other stuff. It does actually
does make sense us speaking of which, what's what's the
actual status of Showhy in terms of his ability to
to be himself swinging a baseball bat?
Speaker 7 (26:26):
Well, he's he's not himself and I think is at
bats in game three, said that it's interesting he was
he was actually even in games one and two. Yeah,
he has one one big run scoring hit, but he
he really hasn't had a great World Series. And again
it's three games. In one of the three games he was,
you know, barely able to get himself back out to
the field to be able to play. And you could
even tell running the bases last night he wasn't comfortable
(26:49):
at all with the shoulder. So he's clearly there's no
way that anybody could tell me and convince me that
he's not compromised. He clearly is compromised. I think he's
he's probably at a spot and with all all the
doctors and all the works they've done, he probably can't
make it any worse in the long term. And will
there be kind of some different way of rehabbing in
the winter time. I'm sure there will, But they've probably
(27:12):
gotten to the point where he can handle the pain.
He can tolerate the pain, he can go out there
and swing a bat. There's not somebody else sitting right
there that they say, yeah, we got to get this
other guy in because he's eighty percent as good as show.
And really there's nobody that's that good right now that's
just sit on the bench. So I think that you
just get him out there, have him play and his
(27:33):
presence and clearly he had a big walk early in
game three. His presence matters for something. But you can
tell when he misses he really feels it.
Speaker 8 (27:42):
Well.
Speaker 7 (27:42):
I think when he makes contact it's it's painful but manageable.
I think when he misses, it's excruciating, and I think
that's what he was experiencing a little bit there in
game three, So clearly compromised. Will it matter if the
rest of the lineup keeps doing what they're doing. Maybe
not because the Key had a big run, scoring hit.
Lux has had I think a really productive series as well.
(28:04):
Of this, their depth has been better than the Yankees depth.
It's almost like Otani and Judge that both been, if
you want to be fair about it, not terribly impactful
in this series. But the rest of the Dodgers have
been better decidedly than the rest of the Yankees, and
that's why we're in the situation that we're in right now.
Three to zero to the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
No question about John Morossi joining us here on the
Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Traders our MLB Insider.
Of course you can see him on the MLB Network.
What's your sense of the amount of fight when the
Yankees for tonight?
Speaker 7 (28:38):
You know, I think it's interesting because I think that
there is enough left. It's a proud group. I think
what Aaron Boom said after Game three is the right
thing to say, which is we got to win Game four.
And in the recent history of the game, there have
been enough times, whether it was even you go back
four years ago, the people forget the Astros forced a
seventh game they were down three to zero in the A.
(29:00):
They got it all the way to Game seven before
they lost, so we can be surprised here. I think
a lot of it depends on the quality of the
at bats they have early. I think du Goo what
he did late, I think was good. They made the
out on the bases earlier on with Stanton being sent,
which I actually had no problem with it because you're
(29:20):
trying to make something happen in a good way, and
I know it didn't look good at the end, but
I was actually fine with that decision to send him.
I'm going to watch early tonight, Doug. The quality of
the at bat are they able to and again, it's
a bullpen game, so depending on how this all plays
out with the Dodgers and who they run out there,
the Yankees might be able to get some good at
bats off and and just make this a series. Again,
(29:43):
if you win a game, you put a little pressure
on them. So I'm gonna stop well short of saying, hey,
the Yankees are gonna come back and win, but I
think they've got a much better chance of at least
winning Game four than a lot of the naysayers would suggest.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Right now, all right, John Morosi, John, enjoy the World Series.
I'll look forward to whether it's a Game five setup
or a recap of the series in the season. We'll
talk to you very very soon.
Speaker 7 (30:06):
Thank you so much, Sales d Doug and by the way,
but when you were describing that with data with the
College Football conversation, it reminded me of all the different
iterations there, the ball Alliance, the Bowl coalition, remember that
stuff like thirty years ago. That seems all due, and
actually I kind of miss a little bit that stuff.
I really I missed. I missed some of that old
timmy football from thirty years ago.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
You missed, you missed dual national champions.
Speaker 7 (30:29):
I do because the guests what it was. It was
chaotic and it made us, it made us talk about
it for months afterward, even during the season. It was
champion the Big Ten, champion of the Pac Ten, and
then the Orange Bowl was its own thing, and then
you had you had a debate about it and one
game would end your season, whereas your point earlier, Ohio State,
(30:49):
who's the game? They're still doing fine. I don't know,
there's some elements of what it used to be that
actually missed. I really don't.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
I'm actually I'm actually with you there as well. I'm
actually there, but we're we're not going John Morosi, uh
doing subdug. Thanks thanks so much. John. Let expressfessials help

Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Lean back twenty years later. I mean, like, listen, I
didn't it didn't land the way they wanted to land.
It's Doug Gotlib Show, Fox Sports Radio. But I do
sometimes think of Fat Joe and think of like, there's
just not a lot of people who can do what
he did, which is guy a microphone and go on
(31:54):
the field at Yankee stadium and you know, and rap
and you know, if it's not going well, not even
think about it. You got to just kind of do
your thing, you know. So shortly after the show our
podcast to be going up. You missed it. You can
hear all of today's show. Just download, subscribe, and rate,
and don't be afraid to review the Doug out Leap
Show podcast. Also, if you just searched Doug gottliebherever you
(32:16):
get podcasts, you'll get that one. Let's get to all
the stories of the day. Let's get to the press,
the press, Danny be, what do you got?
Speaker 3 (32:26):
I will say this. On my Sunday show with Carrie Rhodes,
we were talking about ice Cube's performance and Carrie said
to this, not verbatim but paraphrasing, the Yankees should bring
out Fat Joe to see how it would go. And
I like laughed. I didn't think that that. I also
didn't think it was comparable. No disrespect to Fat Joe,
(32:48):
but there's just something about La and ice Cube and
the vibe and what he did and then sure enough
came to fruition. So Carrie Rhodes actually predicted it. I
wondered if it was a Fox thing like foxes. I okay,
we should do this, you know, we both stadium and
see how it works. But I haven't gotten any insight
into that whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
What's your next one?
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Yeah? My next one is also not related to do
with sports. In the entertainment industry, Terry Gar passed away
today at the age of seventy nine. Jason Stewart just
found out and is a shock. I know. Terry Gar
appeared in a bunch of movies that Jason likes, but
guys are age. She always kind of played that motherly figure.
I just remember Mister Mom how great she was. But
(33:37):
Terry Gar passed away at the age of seventy nine.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Young Franklin. She was in Tutsy, wasn't she.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Think so?
Speaker 7 (33:44):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (33:44):
Yes, yes, Close Encounters of the Third kind too.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
That was kind of her thing.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
She was great at playing opposite that great comedic actor.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Was she in? Was she in Nine to Five? She
was not.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
I just did a podcast on Mister Mom. That's like
one of my favorite comedies. John Hughes movie. She's so
good opposite Michael Keaton, very underrated part. I think she
worked with Chevy Chase and obviously Dustin Hoffman.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
But she was great. She was great, So rip to
Terry Ghar. All right, let's get to the headlines of
the day in the world of sports. Jerry Jones making
some headlines speaking with one oh five point three the Fan,
as he normally does every Tuesday. Well, I had this
to say about their season so far and what's to come.
Speaker 8 (34:39):
But I have a lot of faith in these players,
and I have a lot of faith in this coaching staff.
We'll have some players coming back that played critical role.
As for us, we ought to get better seventeen game season.
Let's get this thing turned around and have a storybook
ending to a rough start.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
And Dougie also said when it came to Dak res
Scott and Dak's mobility, that if it was up to him,
Dak would not be running, and that their goal is
to keep Dak as a pocket passer because they don't
want him to risk injury if he does try to
run and scramble.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
I just I don't I don't get it. I don't
get any of it. One, I mean you're taking away
Dak's ability to run, which is one of the things
that used to make him kind of special and different.
And two I just they keep going on. They went
all in on him again and with a new contract
and stop. Mave heard this for two more interceptions against
(35:35):
the against the Niners, Like how many times we have
to see this thing on repeat? We're like, I don't
think this dog. Now they're stuck with him, so it'll
probably be a coaching change the end of this year.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Dak Prescott against the Niners, one carry minus one yards
against the Lions, one carry one yard against the Steelers,
one carry three yards against the Giants. Two carries minus
one yard is high as a against the Saints when
they were blown out in Week two, two carries twelve yards.
That's what Dak Prescott has done on the ground so far.
(36:07):
News just in from the NBA actually got to hold
off on that. We got some other NFL news. Stefan
Diggs done for the season towards ACL Texans placed team
on injured reserve.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
Well that moved a network at will home.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Did for the first half of the season, but now
they were without Nico Collins. They have a short week
against the New York Jets. They play on Thursday night.
Be an interesting matchup at the ED And.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
You know, I saw CJ. And you know they played
against the Packers and like I thought they ran the
ball well, I didn't think CJ. Stroud looked great. And
now you take away his top two weapons, that's, you know,
crazy impression the season.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
There has been something different this year. He had a
great rapport with Tank Dell entering the season and that
has just not been there. I mean, somebody had to
take to hit with Stefan Diggs coming in, but even
with Nico Collins out, this these past couple of weeks
just hasn't been there for the Texans. You touched on
this earlier, but for those that missed it, Colts are Benching,
Anthony Richardson will start Joe Flacco Sunday Night against the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Excited for Flacco. I mean, there's a guy who just
how old is Joe Flacco now?
Speaker 3 (37:15):
Thirty eight?
Speaker 2 (37:16):
He's so comfortable in his own skin too.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Somewhere on there actually maybe thirty nine. What's his birthday?
Speaker 2 (37:24):
It's not January sixteenth, It is January sixteen. January sixteenth,
which is also Dan Buyer's birthday.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
Me him and Ronnie Millsap in shade.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Ronnie Millsap Yes, wow, good.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
Doug the seventy six ers are fined one hundred thousand
dollars for their public statements that they made about the
health of Joel Embiid. Embiid has yet to play this
season and will not play tomorrow night against the Detroit Pistons.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Such a weird deal, Such a weird deal, Like is
it load management? He's really screwed up and now they're
finding him. I don't know. And by the way, none
of it matters. It's all if he's healthy and they
can play in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
And again, I don't want to break any NCAA rules,
so you can feel free to not comment. But Duke
freshman phenom Cooper Flag signed an NIL deal with Gatorade,
the first collegiate player to ever sign with the brand.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
I think it's great. I mean, I think it's real
Nil Cooper Flag. I mean, listen, I can I can
talk about Cooper Black. He's never gonna play for me, right,
I wish? Uh. He's incredible. But this is that's what
NIL is supposed to be, supposed to be. Corporations having
kids as they're spokespeople, small businesses as well. It's not
just people writing checks. And that's the press get out
(38:35):
there and pressed.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
That was the press.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
I don't know if we're gonna have a world series.
After tonight, we'll find out. Stunt Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio,
