Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, All Right, coming to the

(00:25):
heart of north central Oklahoma and coming to your live
from the ti right dot Com studios tyright dot com.
Well you get there. Unmatched election fast, free shipping, Free
road has protection over ten thousand recommended sallars. Tyrte dot
Com is the way tire buying should be. That is
really weird. Do you know when sometimes you I'm I've

(00:51):
been good. I've been good about this whole thing. You know,
I haven't. I haven't sleeping a ton, but I don't
sleep a ton anyway, But I've been good like I was.
Just my son, Hayes is with me. We went and
got him. He actually needed some underwear because he's an idiot.
I was like, dude, what's taking you so long to

(01:14):
get ready for shooter? He's like, Dad, I didn't pack
any underwear, like what anyway, He's like, so, how you
feeling you nervous? And I was like, no, I'm good.
He's like I was like, I'm all the things and excited.
But I will tell you the second I heard Dan
and the dan Nets and I realized where I am
that it did hit me like this is real. And

(01:38):
people ask all the time, like, why why do you
do what you do? Oftentimes they ask me in a
sarcastic because I will say and do things that aren't
always maybe appropriator at the time timely, but why do this?
And the answer, honestly is today. And here's what I mean.

(02:00):
I'm from Orange, California. I went to Tustin High School.
There's no honest connection with this part of the world.
I grew up, believe it or not, as an Oklahoma
football fan. I used to love the wishbone Jamil Holloway, right,
I used to love the bas Like who didn't like
the boss? And everybody didn't here by the way, they
didn't like, No, they did. Everybody loved the bass. I mean.

(02:22):
The truth is that prior to probably the last ten
to fifteen years, Oklahoma state football fans were also ou
football fans really unless you went to school here in
your hardcore and the culture that Mike Gundy obviously, this
is a tough years created has changed things to where
there's now it literally is a divided state. It wasn't previously.

(02:42):
It wasn't basketball, it wasn't in football because it's hammer
the nail. They won ninety percent of the games. It's
really hard to be an Okaham State football fan for
a long time. But the point is there's a sign
that I have still packed away in a box in
Green Bay, and it says it all started in still Water.

(03:05):
And I've had times in my life where I've been
a little broken and I pulled in here and nobody
judged me. You know, nobody judged me, damn it. And
I still remember the day and it's interesting and it's

(03:27):
all kind of coming. Like I said this earlier today,
that my gift is my curse is that I have
an incredible memory. You know you have that you have
that for sports, which is remarkable. Dan and I always
call on it because you're like our personal like encyclopedia,
like oh no, no, that was October sixteenth, nineteen sixty six.
And here's what happened to the UNIFL was like, oh
my god, Dan, stop, but I have these my my

(03:50):
brain is flushed with these vivid memories. And in UH,
when I came here to go to school in August
of nineteen ninety seven, I went to Lake Havasuit with
my friend Nick, Nick Maruzzo's Nick played basketball at UC
San Diego. And it's basically twenty four to twenty five

(04:10):
hours from Orange County to Stillwater, and so it's five
hours out to have a suit. So I had like
a twenty hour trip. So I planted out like all right,
I'm gonna jet ski water ski for a couple of
days and then I'm gonna head out and I'm gonna
stop like in I don't know. It was like Albuquerque,
and then stop in Amillo one night, and then I'll
come here and I'll be your Sunday. And then Sunday
we had a team meeting and then Monday school starts.

(04:31):
And I was so excited, just like I am now
that I drove straight through. I pulled off, pull off
the road and slept for a couple hours in UH
in my Chevy Blazer. I am also still wanted by
the law in one of the Native American lands. This
is a real story. I got pulled over and the

(04:51):
guy's like, well, you know, it's like a one hundred
dollars speeding ticket. And I was like okay. He's like,
well this is on the I say it's the Navajo Land.
And I was like, oh, well, what happens if I
don't pay it? Like, well, then you're wanted. I was like,
in America, it's like no on Navajo Land. So I
if I ever get pulled out on Navajo Land, just
know I got thrown in the clink for something, you know,
twenty seven years ago. Anyway, So I pulled off the

(05:16):
road in northwest Oklahoma City. There's the I forty four
I forty four kind of byset or kind of cuts
through the northern part of Oklahoma City, and there's a
couple of bigger buildings there. But I had knew nothing
about Oklahoma. So I called my mom collect and I said,
she's like, what's it like. I was like, I think
I'm in downtown Oklahoma City and there's two buildings. And

(05:39):
then I called Mary Lee Draper, who's the longtime secretary
for Eddie Sutton, and she gave me direction to try
to get the still water. It's pretty simple, right, get
out I thirty five North, get off on fifty one.
There you are. You know, turn left on a Hall
of Fame and you'll run into Gallagher. So I pulled
off into Gallagher, and you know, it's August in Oklahoma.
It's one hundred and eighty degrees. And I went upstairs

(06:02):
to Coach's office, which is on the second floor of
the old Gallagher, and he was like, what are you
doing here? I was like, Coach, I was so excited.
I got here on It's like a Friday, early afternoon.
So what should I do because none of the players
were there, and I could just check into my room,
but I didn't have anything.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
He said, well, you usually go.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Down to Joe's and get yourself so to eat and
then go over to the football game, the high school
football game. A bunch of people from the department are
going down there. So I came to Joe's. I sat
by myself up there, and I took it all in,
and then I went to the high school football game
and I met Matt Holliday, who we all had dinner
with last night. He's become a lifelong friend most of

(06:45):
you guys know, I got divorced couple of years ago,
and I have my first day with my wife right there.
I mean, my life started right here. So I tell
people all the time that I wake up daily with
true gratitude. But I don't even express how much this

(07:07):
place means to me. And what I want for my kids,
and by kids, I mean my players is they won't
all get that, but man, if I can have one
or two have the experience that I had and the
life that I've lived because of the three years that
I played basketball where an Oklahoma State crossed my chest

(07:29):
and then I have won. You knows what as it?
We were like, we get so screwed up in sports,
and it's the thing about NIL and the transfer portal,
and we have kids everywhere, and everybody comes from somewhere else.
And I mean this when I say it. My goal
is to have those guys have what I have. You know, tonight,

(07:53):
Desert Mason, Brian Mott, Naughty, Rodney Sewers will walk on
my former roommate Alex Weber, Andre Williams, They're all going
to be here now. Maybe part of it is none
of them have gotten a real job and moved away.
But the truth is that's my family and it all

(08:14):
started INSTI Water, Oklahoma. So I'm a competitive dude. I
want my team to win. I think we're fully capable
of winning. More than anything, I really want them to
represent themselves, our school, our program, and me personally the
right way. I just wanted to play hard and play
right and play for each other, because that's it. Like,

(08:37):
we didn't go to a Final four here. We didn't
win a Big twelve. We could have won the Big Twelve.
We choked and lost to Oklahoma in the last game.
The old Gallagher, right. I lost in the Big twelve
championship game my junior year to Kansas, and we scored
like thirty five points because we were exhausted, but we didn't.
There's lots of things we didn't do, but you know
we did do. We won, and we won because those

(08:59):
are my best friend on earth. Those are people that
I would lay down on train tracks for. This is
a school that changed my life, and that's what college
athletics is supposed to be about, not about all this
other crap. And I don't mean to go too far
afield because tomorrow is a very consequential day. In American

(09:20):
history with our election. But it's the same thing. It's like,
we got to get back to what it's about. It's
not about all that other stuff. You know, who we
elect isn't about all this. It's like, who do you
trust to make really good decisions? Who do you trust?
Regardss with what you agree or disagree with like some
of their politics. I just so much of this gets

(09:42):
caught up in money and glamour and fame and the
little things that are like sugar that take us to
these highs and fill us with a dopamine and then
we drop off. I'm telling you college athletics. Look, it's hard.
Aroma Mater stinks this year. You know, they're a preseason
top fifteen team. I love my school. Gun He's been
the greatest coach in the history of Oklahoma State. It's

(10:03):
not even close. Like if people understood you guys went
to the game Saturday night, if people understood how bad
it was at the old Lewis Field. Okay, there were
steel girders that were rusting. They called it. Everybody else
called it the Rustolium Bowl. It was a joke. Okay,
we were a joke of a football program, like the
only thing our football team was known for was on

(10:23):
their bye week they would have the best parties, right,
and they would usually get into a fight with the
guys from Langston the first weekend of school. Like that's
all anybody knew with football guys from Like we went
to the Alimo Bowl my first year, and you would
have thought they went to the super Bowl. And then
they stumped the next couple of years. And Mike came
in in his first year, he got rid of all
the nuisance and they won three games, and then after
that it's been a rocket ship. But again, like we

(10:47):
get caught up in what it's not about. And it's
not that you don't want to win, Please don't mistaken
that about it. Like I'm I'm so competitive that it
if we lose tonight, it will and then I'm still
worried about Like Friday, we play Saint Thomas, who's a
really well coached team. Like the level of stress and
anxiety I actually like and I enjoy, But also part

(11:10):
of it is because I want to win. You know,
when you do broadcasting, get done doing a game, you
click off, did we win, did we lose? I can
think I did a great job but if I boss
things I didn't like, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
We have a scoreboard for a reason. But when I
see that sign, it all started in still Water and
I was so good with the emotions, you know, so good,
And then it just we clicked on and I heard
the thing from Dan, and I just I started thinking
about all the nights we'd play a game, we'd win,
We'd come down here, we'd watch Sports Air, they'd crank

(11:41):
it up and there would be a highlight. I'd throw
an alley up to Mason and Mason would dunk it right,
and like we would stay up all hours of the
night just to watch ourselves on a Sports Center highlight
that Dan Patrick would call. It wasn't about hey, can
I get five hundred thousand dollars in nil? Well, you know,

(12:01):
and if not, I'm going to leave the school. And
the truth of it is, I have a home, I
have a life, I have people, Like the real reason
I wanted to play this game is all these things
that I've talked about. My kids will see the game,
my friends will see the game. But there's people that
have supported me to have this job as a head coach,

(12:22):
Like there was a big move bring Doug home. I'd
never coached a day in my life at the college level.
Right at that level, it would have been seen as
an obscene risk. And yet every time it's come open,
people have supported me. Why because I'm an Okahoma stake guy.
Because we take care of our own and that's what
it's supposed to be about. And I just hope that

(12:43):
in twenty years, Preston Rudeger, Marcus Hall, Foster, Wonders, Mac
Recky one or all of those guys show up at
the other guy's game and have a beer afterwards and
talk about how great it used to be. And you know,
we get far afield from what everything is about. And

(13:04):
I'm telling you my college experience at Oklahoma State was
about the right stuff, and it's what I want my
team to ultimately succeed in life at. And oh yeah,
by the way, we want to win a game. So anyway, God,
that was a lot. Holy cow, can we go to break?

We're live at Eskimo Joe's Right the Hardest, Still Water,
Oklahoma on Elm Street. We got a hell of a

(14:28):
pod that you can download at the end of this show.
Just type in Doug gottliber Ever download the podcast. We
had Stan Clark, who's the owner proprietor of Eskimo Joe's.
I don't think he knew that. Actually, my first apartment
in still Water was right here on the other side
of Duck Street, and so I used to stumble on
home occasionally after a long night of drinking iced teas.

(14:50):
And I can sell out a bunch of my friends. So,
so how this place works is everybody's. Everything's known for
the cheese fries. Dan, you tried the pepper bacon cheese
fries everything.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
Yes, they were your first pick in our draft on Thursday,
and it should have been my first pick if I
picked ahead of you. I can't remember if I did
or not. But yeah, delicious. And I'm a plain guy,
you know, like that, don't have a lot of common.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
But you're also Wisconsant guys, so you can you can
understand the beauty of cheese. Yes, right, what do you think?

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Delicious? They are magnificent.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Really.

Speaker 5 (15:27):
I wish we could go to break now so I
could eat them. You can eat them and down.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
You can just eat and Jason and I can handle
the rest. Yeah. So usually when bands play here, if
they play inside and Cody Canada played outside, for homecoming.
But bands play here just right by the entrance. You know,
they closed down the entrance here. You have to come
in for the side. My roommate, uh in college, Rodney Souter,

(15:52):
he was a guy like this where anytime there was
a female lead singer, he was it was like it
was like they were a siren. He could not stop
staring and he was like, I got it. Can you
introduce me? I got to meet her. It didn't match.
She could have two heads. He wanted me. It was
something about female lead singers.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
I kind of have that thing. You didn't have that
thing too.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Yeah, yeah, I mean a Gwen Stefani thing. But I
uh not always.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Saying it his two heads like a new fetish that
I've never heard of it.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
No, I just I was making it like some sort
of yeah, probably didn't make real realistic sense. Is Doug
Gotlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio, And if you
didn't know, we have our first game so I get
to coach at Green Bay against myl Monoracle mistate tonight.
So we'll be talking about throughout the show.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
But real fast, I need to remind the listeners how
big a deal this is. There's a reason why Dan
Patrick mentioned it on a show today. I heard the
host Over the weekend. Dan and I were driving through
still Water. We heard the host mention it. It's a
big deal. This is a national story. Everybody in this
place right now is experiencing something that hasn't been done before.
A national radio host is about coach a D one

(17:01):
collegiate game. And I couldn't be more proud to be here.
I do need to give credit for Dan Bayer, Dan Byer,
it's his idea for us to be here. We would
not be here today without him planting that seed.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
So thank you, Dan Byer.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
And and then I would I gotta give credit to
Tim Holland, who runs the joint doing Brenda. Not just that,
but he's always been, always been welcoming and just whatever
you need, and even when I need a table and
there's no tables availabilities.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
I honestly think we brought this up on the air.
I think I mentioned it to Jason, but I don't
even know. If I mentioned it to you privately and
we set it on the air and you immediately said
we'll do it, I'd ask about Joes immediately.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Yeah. Yeah, there's no real other place to do it right,
It just is okay, let's talk about instead of talking
about the Oaklahoma State Cowboys and the struggles this season,
can we have some fun with the Dallas Cowboys. Can
we play that little intro intro music about the cowboys thing,
Sammy we got. Sometimes we make up things on TV

(18:00):
and radio to talk about the cowboys. This one is
actually a legitimate story. We need to talk about the cowboys.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
Let's talk about the cowboys. Why well, because they're the cowboys.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Cowboy So the first time listening to Doug Alab show
and this got a little segue segment. This is our
way of making fun of hot take TV, where oftentimes
in the offseason they just make up topics about the cowboys. Right,
Jerry says something we know he's gonna pay whoever is
like holding out, Like literally you can almost write the script.

(18:39):
Just change the name, like Ezekiel Elliott, go back to
EMITTT Smith, Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, you name it. Jerry
always says, well, I don't know, I'm on pay, and
then all of a sudden he pays him.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
There's also the fact Trevor Lawrence started to deal with
the Jaguars the next topic, then what do the Cowboys
do with Daka?

Speaker 1 (18:57):
It's a follow up of even other teams, right, so
a lot of times it's artificial. This is not the
Dallas Cowboys stink. What's even more incredible is their own
quarterback said we suck. But you guys also saw the
saw the video, right, I mean it doesn't even I'm

(19:19):
not even a good lip reader, can you guys red lips?

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Well, there was there was an episode a few weeks
back when Ceedee Lamb had said something to Dak kind
of in an animated way.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
He was basically saying.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
Jump ball captain or something, and everybody thought he said
something more derisive. This This wasn't even like a fifty
to fifty like what did he say? Everyone knows what
he said?

Speaker 1 (19:40):
We suck we blank and suck we blank and well
it was a family show. We're a family restaurant, but
we blanking suck. Yeah, that's amazing, like of all the
things to happen, and look, Saquon Barkley is like an
X Man. Did you guys see that play yesterday? It's like,
what what is that? That? Literally looked like something from

(20:00):
X manter from a Marvel movie where he just jumps
over somebody while going backwards, but he's actually going forward.
It's like what the Saints are a disaster. We'll get
to Derek Carr, who I've never bought into. Everybody likes
the Derek Carr story. He's not good. He wasn't good
with the Raiders, he wasn't good with the Saints. He's
just not that good a quarterback. And that thing's fall apart.

(20:22):
Dennis Allen took the fallow or today. All of that
pales in comparison to the Cowboys lose again and then
their quarterback says, we blanking suck. That's amazing.

Speaker 5 (20:31):
It's also amazing on the heels of Ezekiel Elliott not
making the trip to Atlanta, considering he came back to
Dallas for a second time a veteran and apparently things
haven't gone well where he's not doing what he's supposed
to do showing up on time.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
So you have that friction coming in. Surely, what's a
make or break here for Mike McCarthy. This was Jerry
Jones when he was asked about Mike McCarthy's job security.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
I'm good with Mike.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
I know how hard he works.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
I like his football mind.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I know how good he works.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
He's got, in my mind, an outstanding coaching record. He's
really good with the players. They think highly of him.
But he's got a lot of fire in his belly.
And so I'm just giving you this. I like the

(21:21):
positives I see him. And by the way, frankly, some
of the best coaches that I've been around. I got
to see him when times were bad.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
You gotta see when times are bad. Wait, what are
times now, Jerry? Do tell it's pretty obvious that the
Mike zimmer Higher hasn't hasn't worked right. And I don't
know if you guys saw on social media or today,
Danie or Lovsky pointed out that on their second third
down on defense, they had ten guys on the field
like they looked disengaged, disorganized and dysfunctional. And it starts

(21:57):
on defense. But it's not like the offense is much
better either. And I know they have some injuries, but
I just I don't understand Jerry's I mean, I guess
Jerry probably thinks if I say anything negative, it'll be
multiplied fifteen times over. But like, what are you talking about?
They look awful their own quarterback says, we y suck?

(22:19):
What Jerry? What are you looking at?

Speaker 5 (22:21):
There's also another layer to this because you just had
you mentioned Mike Zimmer being there in a one year
deal basically because of Mike McCarthy's job security. No up
becoming defensive coordinator is going to want to take that
job because of that. And the previous defensive coordinator is
now killing it in Washington. Yes, your division rival.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
In the same division. Yeah, in the same event.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
So if you're Jerry Jones, which I don't think, we
love the Cowboys going into the into the season, if
you look at what the Commanders have done in the
first nine weeks of the year with the guy that
used to run your defense, I would have much more
harsh words for Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
You think, I Mike, I cannot believe that's the sound,
but you heard It's like Jerry Jones, Like Jerry tries
to sell us something. I just always just say, you know,
shoot from they have to say, you say what I think?
And if that's really what you think, it's like, are
you not watching it? An HD? How is it possible
your own quarterback said the blanking suck? All right? More

(23:17):
on that to come first. Let's get an update with
our guy with the Monts.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
So with Dan Meyer, Mantzi's doing the tops, I'm doing
the bottom of the hour up there.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Talk good Sammy.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
The Dallas Cowboys got more bad news, Dak Prescott. You
spoke of out indefinitely because of that hamstring strain suffered
yesterday against the Atlanta Falcons. So likely the Cooper Rush
show for the near future. Tough times for the Dallas Cowboys.
Tough times for Dennis Allen. What kind of Lisa doesn't
have to deal with the Saints anymore? He's out of
a job, fired today after two and a half seasons

(23:48):
with the team eighteen and twenty five. They've lost their
last seven, including yesterday to Bryce Young in the Carolina Panthers.
So Dennis Allen out as the Saints head coach, losers
of their last seven. More NFL news. Christian McCaffrey on
the practice field today. He's could be making his season
debut coming up in Week ten against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Buccaneers,

(24:09):
by the way, they wrap up Week nine tonight with
the Kansas City Chiefs, kickoff eight to fifteen Eastern time.
Daniel Jones will remain the team starting quarterback for their
Week ten matchup in Germany when they face the aforementioned
Carolina Panthers. Bengals running Backsac Moss out indefinitely because of
a neck injury. Bracos on linebacker Jonathan Cooper to a
four year extension. Denver also sent at Rushier Baron Browning

(24:31):
to Arizona in exchange for a six round pick. And
I should say the first place Arizona Cardinals in the
NFC West.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Paul George is gonna make his season debut for the
six Ers tonight is they face the Suns in Phoenix.
And yes, the reason why we are here.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
The college basketball season tipping off matchups tonight include number
one Kansas at home against Howard seventh rank Duke Entertain's Maine.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
You got nobody cares. You got a top ten match
man yea Cooper Cooper flag against you know, his mom's school.
Nobody cares you.

Speaker 5 (24:59):
You get number eight Baylor taking up member six Kenzaga
season eight o'clock.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
Eastern time tonight. Just what two blocks away?

Speaker 4 (25:05):
Is that?

Speaker 1 (25:06):
Basically where we sure?

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Gallagher ibor Arena, Ohklahoma State home to the Green Bay
Phoenix it Doug Gottlieb's debut his head Culture Green Bay.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Uh, and we're gonna do something tonight, which I usually
don't like because I think it's the most confusing thing.
We're wearing our home whites, so uh yeah, I mean
there's there's a couple of different layers to it, but
our home whites have Script Phoenix. Uh my favorite uniforms,
most people's favorite uniforms at Oklahoma State for Script cowboys

(25:39):
across across the front. So I don't know if they're
wearing their orange or they're black. I just know that
they're they're not wearing white. Otherwise we had a major
problem around But we're wearing our our white. But I
usually hate that because you know, I, like everybody else
grew up. You flip on the TV. The team at
white is at home and the team that's where the

(26:02):
darker colors is playing on the road. But I do
want your opinion in our uniforms and you see him
because these ones I personally designed the rest of them.
Can I take no credit for it because we just
did the same design of previous years, despite the fact
we were going to change it. And then we're working
on a we're working on a First Nations uniform obviously,

(26:24):
as you know in Wisconsin there's eleven Native American Nations,
so we're gonna have a set the players don't know yet.
They're gonna be purple, actually, because that's the here when
they do the I forget what the n seven uniforms are,
like a turquoise blue, so I thought we're gonna do
turquoise blue. Apparently that's for the Native American Nations of
the Southwest, but in that part of the country, it's purple.

(26:46):
Is the is the color. So we're gonna have a
purple set nice eventually as well. Anyway, thanks to the
folks that the do this. But I want dan byer
is and you have to be honest about ill toalry Okay, yeah,
if you don't like it, I'll tell you exactly how
we got how I came up with everything we came up.
Is there anything like no? Okay, no, okay, now it'side
that deep. I wasn't able, like we're not that totally fine. No,
But like Duke, you know, they'll have like interwoven in

(27:08):
their jerseys like you can see like some of the
famous players, and they got all kind of sayings and
stuff like, we're not there yet, but we do have
some I think I really like this set. So it's
gonna it should work out.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
What are we in store for tonight? This will be
our first trip to this arena? What are we in
store for when we walked in those doors?

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Okay? So this Arina, it's a lot like And I
want to talk about the Packers losing. It's very much.
There's the similarities to lambeau Field in that lambeau Field,
the lower bowl is the same as it's always been,
you know, same bleacher seating, cheek to cheek, right. And
what they did was they built a whole new kind
of stadium over it. And they keep adding on and
adding on. They have the club level. You don't see

(27:48):
the steel girders me outside. Gallagh Graba is the same thing.
Galaghriba was a small little bandbox where you'd walk in
and there's the first level and then the second level
is right on top of you. And there used to
be a low flat roof and it was sixty sixty
four hundred like in seventeen seats or something. Now it's
thirteen to six. And all they did was add another layer,

(28:10):
another level, and then there's some boxes, which I don't
know why they put him up way way way up
to the top. So you walk in and the old
arena is still essentially intact, and then the third level
is all new. I knew, I mean twenty three years old.
It is. You mentioned how Boone Pickens fell to you.

(28:30):
What was the word you guys used, intimate?

Speaker 2 (28:32):
Intimate? Yeah, yeah, this is the top of the player.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
This is even more so, even more so, it's right
on top of you, and it's designed to be loud.
And what happened was Gary Sparks, the architect, and when
they redid the place, what they didn't want to lose
was how loud the old place was, even though you're
adding all these seats. So whatever he did in the design,

(28:55):
that part is mission accomplished. It's still loud. I have
no idea how many people will be there. We were
trying to do it with a thunder didn't play, and
they played tonight. Couldn't do it tomorrow with election day,
and there was some bad there's some bad weather. It's
actually kind of great now, so I think we're good.
I think we're in the clear. So I have no idea,
but whatever the number of people is, and they haven't

(29:16):
drawn great it's the opening game. I don't know, four
thousand people. I promise you, if they go on a
run and it gets close, it will sound like eight thousand,
nine thousand people. It is a really really bad place. Also,
if you're not used to firearms being fired off on
the inside, it will everybody's first time. It will freak

(29:38):
out when pistol fires off, fires off, the fires off,
the blanks, So what the heck like? You'll always see
there'd be somebody who jumps. Somebody jumps, and then they
do some other cool things. The floor is the same
white harted maple that they've had since day one, and
Will Chamberlain played on that floor and it's had some
of the greatest wrestling matches of all time colleg dress

(30:00):
the matches of all time there and I don't know.
It's just a great place. A lot of orange, and
yeah it'll be there'll be a lot of stuff going on. Now.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
You said you were gonna get me and down on
a T shirt? Did you bring one?

Speaker 1 (30:12):
Yeah? I have them there at the hotels.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
We need to represent.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Yeah, was our our tea shirt? Say family with the
pH family we'll probably just go to wear those anyway.
But I brought my green hat. You're wearing the shirt.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
You need to wear the T shirt.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
So that's that's it. And we have you know, the
challenge is in trying to prepare for them for something
that they haven't seen before, right, because you have of
my players, only four of them have played a team

(30:46):
of this level really before. Yeah, four. I have fifteen guys,
so I have, you know, three foreign players. I have
a whole bunch of fresh and a couple of my
kids are red shirt fresh been you know, one transfer
form Providence, one mac Reky he red shirted last year.
So you can tell them what it's like. But until

(31:08):
you've experienced it, and I think we all anybody in
life can understand it, but especially in college basketball, you're
a totally different person. When you've gone through a year,
you know you've seen it all, you've done it all.
So we've been doing five on six in practice because
that's what it feels like. Is it an easy place
to shoot for everybody but me? That's what I tell
If everybody made, it's a great shooting gym except for me,

(31:31):
So yeah, it's a great it's it's I think it's
a perfect basketball environment like Kansas right now is the
mark for best places to play. But I think anyone
who's honest with themselves knows this is the best home
court advantage because for the last fifteen or so years,
Oklahoma State has had just a handful of NCAA tournament teams,

(31:55):
been a pretty big dry spell and so they haven't
drawn particularly well. The thunder also take and a lot
of luster of coming to games, but they still pulled off.
I mean, they've probably split with Kansas, and Kansas won
the league every year. And this is the place where
Bill self, who went to school here, is almost ever wins,
and I think that's because of Gallagher i Arena. So anyway,

(32:16):
we got a lot to get to you here on
the Doug Gottlieb Show. We're live at Eskimo Joe's in

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Yeah, this is back when MTV played music videos where
I'm gonna be that guy. Right. We've also indoctrinated Jay
s Tu into needless small talk Oklahoma style right where
your indeed of this small talk that you always hate
is said November already. I love it.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
That's amazing. How time flies?

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Yeah, how time flies?

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Like everybody agrees on that one.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
I've never once heard a person say, you know what,
actually it's gone by a little slow.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
Everyone just thinks it goes by it like that.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
By the way. Uh I said this on the podcast,
which you can download and listen to. Congratulations as of
after tonight, you've made it. No more political ads, no
more political ads. So you get to go back to
watching your regular commercials that you're like, Man, I almost
miss that. Everybody was a horrible human being, but this
guy is on our side. As you said, you know.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
What I'm excited about. But I don't love the time change.
But now we're just standard time. Everybody's on Standard. Some
people get daylight and standard mixed up. We're just standard time.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
Is that how it works? Yes, I didn't the in
the summer.

Speaker 5 (34:13):
Yeah, you're on daylight time, so it's you know, CDT
if you're in the Central Yeah, now CST, that's what
you're on. Oh, Mountain Standard Time and Pacific daylight Time
are actually the same time.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
Just heads up. Okay, I'm really confused.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
I just damn byer. Now, well it's a standard time. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (34:33):
I just get more annoyed when people say it's standard
time in the summer when it's actually daylight time.

Speaker 1 (34:39):
But I don't like us changing our clocks. Do you
want to play a game? Yeah, let's let's do that.
Let's get to a game.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
This is game time. On the Doug Gottlieb Show, we.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Went on that off ramp and I was like, we
got to get back.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
On the road here, guys.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Anyway, all right.

Speaker 4 (34:59):
The game is a big deal. Little deal, no deal.

Speaker 5 (35:04):
Big deal, little dealer, no deal, Doug that the Saints
fired Dennis Allen after two and a half years on
the job.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
Has it been that long? It felt longer for the
same I know, I thought it was a year and
a half. I thought last year was his first year. Nope. Yeah,
the little deal, it's a big deal when you consider
that two and oh. We were like, wow, Saints are
pretty good this year. And I mean the the bottom
fell out, the bottom absolutely fell out. And then he

(35:32):
got Michael Thomas, the former the former Saint just crushing
Derek harr on social media. Pileon.

Speaker 5 (35:40):
Yeah, never made the playoffs at least during his time.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
Seven game losing streak. Dennis Allen out in New Orleans.

Speaker 5 (35:47):
Big deal, little dealer, no deal that Jordan Love seems
severely limited in their loss for the Lions yesterday.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
I'm gonna say it's a big deal because Jordan Love,
who I personally have gotten to know a little bit,
like everyone in Green Bay is talking about him being
the next far with yet another big interception right pick six,
is Yeah, playing hurt when you probably shouldn't be playing
and throwing these untimely interceptions. That's a little bit too

(36:15):
far vying for anybody's taste. So that's a big deal.
That was a game that they didn't play well. They
wont it Like now all of a sudden, you make
the Lions have to think about playing on the road
in the playoffs. That was Jared Goff's first road game
of the entire season. Now they're in great position, great
position to have home field throughout.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
Green Bay's got to buy next week. There was some
question on what they risk love because of the extra
bye week. Maybe they should have that. The Lions are
rolling Doug, big deal, little deal or no deal.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
This is where we sprinkle some of the happenings.

Speaker 5 (36:46):
Is Doug Gottlieb makes his debut tonight is the Green
Bay Phoenix, said coach against his alma mater of Oklahoma State,
the only men's basketball coach who also hosts the national
radio show making his debut tonight, Big deal, a little
deal of no deal? Doug that you made your team
this after flying in yesterday, Like did you landed?

Speaker 1 (37:03):
And then you guys worked out right? But yeah, a
little dealer, no deal. I think it's a no deal,
like were they supposed to git a vacation now?

Speaker 6 (37:10):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
I heard some rumblings at the team dinner last night.
One anonymous person said, you know, it's an example of
coach Gottlieb keeping us out of our comfort zone. I
took that as a I hated practicing where I got.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
I took it as a positive. I thought it was
a good thing. I thought it was great. Seventy five
minutes sharp and we had no breaks, no water breaks,
and they just kind of got after it like, no,
we're good, good practice. I actually thought it was really good.
Shoot around was not great, but it was it was
good in terms of the the energy and intensity. Maybe
the execution wasn't a big deal, little dealer, no deal.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
That James Franklin lost to Ohio State again now one
to nine all the time against them.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
That's a big deal. It's a big deal. It's starting
to get to be, is it. John Cooper, Yes, it's
starting to get to be the John Cooper thing. John Cooper,
of course famously at Oaho is taking beat everybody except
for Michigan, and ultimately that's what cost him his job
and then like James Frank, like what are you doing
talking to the fans who are booing you when you
go out the field? Like, sorry, dude, you make five

(38:10):
million dollars, it's part of the deal. They're going to
boo when you're one in ten against Ohio State, Like
that's what happens. Like, you know, don't be a janitor
and complain about cleaning toilets or fixing toilets, right, don't
be a coach that makes five million dollars you know,
more than most anybody combined in the stadium and complain
about fans being unhappy when you lose at home to

(38:32):
the best team in your conference. Like I don't.

Speaker 5 (38:36):
I don't understand that last one big deal, little deal
of no deal that I took leftovers home from the
holidays last night.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
I think that's that's a no deal. That's right. It
was a family dinner and a family dinner and it
was really, really good. The question is would you take home?
I just took two pieces of chicken in a couple
of rolls. He didn't match. Tatters were credit. Yeah, it
was good? Was it that they you didn't think they'd
keep you couldn't reheat them? Why not bring no one
that it's easier with chicken? Yeah, yeah, mashtatoes are an

(39:03):
interesting reheat. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (39:04):
And I don't even know if I have a microwave
in my room. I know I had a fridge.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
Yeah. And that's game time, game, This is game time
on The Doug Gottlief Show. All right, coming up next
to The Doug Gotlieb Show here live on Fox Sports
Radio on the tirack dot Com students, And of course
we're now creeping up on How's My math? Five hours
away from tip off? From five hours and change away

(39:31):
from tip off. By the way, you guys know the
trend in college basketball half SIPs instead of suits. Will
discuss if I should go suit or half sip upcoming,
But what we'd love from the weekend? What do we
hate from the weekend? That's up coming next The Doug
got Leap Show, Fox Sports Radio,
