Speaker 2 (00:23):
Well we get there. Unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road ass protection over ten thousand recommended to dollars tiragt
dot com. It's way tire buying should be. So it's interesting,
right that the most famous play in Steelers history is

(00:46):
technically an illegal play, right and or it's illegal now.
And this tush push seems to be on the brink
of being illegal as well. So the touch push arguments
continue to pick up a steam. The combine is kind
of the facto convention for NFL front office and coaches.

(01:09):
Here's Bill's head coach Sean McDermott, when he was asked
why he'd be in favor of banning the touch push.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
To me, there's always been an injury risk with that play,
and I've expressed that opinion for the last couple of
years or so when it really started to come into
in the play the way it's being used, especially you know,
a year ago. So I just feel like, you know,
players safety and the health and safety of our players

(01:36):
has to be at the top of our game, which
it is. It's just that play to me, has always
been a or the or the way that the techniques
that are used with that play, to me have been
potentially contrary to the health and safety of the players.
And so again you have to go back, though in
fairness to the to the injury data on the play,

(01:58):
but I just think it to the optics of it,
I'm not in love with.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Okay, here's that Nick Sirianni. He's the head coach and
the guy who's executed the Tousch Push to another super
Bowl and this won a Super Bowl win. He addressed
all the band the Toush Push talk.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
I almost feel a little insulted because we work so
hard at that play, the amount of things that we've
looked into how to coach that play, the fundamentals, there's
always there's a thousand plays out there, but it comes
down to how you teach the fundamentals and now how
the players go through it and do with the fundamentals.
I can't tell you how many times we practice the snap.
We practice the play because it's not a play that

(02:34):
it's easy to practice. There's different ways we figured out
how to practice it. The compliments that come off of
it that can create explosive plays. We saw it in
big time games this year, and like the fact that
it's an automatic thing that like, we work really really
hard and our guys are talented at this play, and
so it's a little insulting to say it's just just

(02:57):
you know, we're good at it.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
So it's automatic.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
We work really hard at it. It's a skill that
our team has because of the players that we have,
the coach, the way the coaches coach it, the fact
that it's a successful play for the Eagles, and people
want to take that away, I think it is a
little a little unfair.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, Look, do I think there's technique with it? Yes,
I think there's definitely an art and a skill to it,
and you have to practice it, and I'm sure there's
some parts of the technique which you can use in
other parts of blocking, but the reality is it's super unique.
Now people have copied it, they have copied it to

(03:36):
less success than the Eagles. They are the best at
doing it. And this despite the fact they lost Chason
Kelsey to retirement, where a lot of people are like, well,
a lot of it is chasing Kelsey is so small
and so flexible. And then of course you have Jalen Hurts,
who's just a monster in the weight room. Like all
of those were thoughts on why there's so much better
at it, and I'm sure there's some technique to it.
Here's where I'll defend the coaches in terms of players safety.

(04:00):
One thing that's not said. So my team and you're like,
what's basketball on my team? Over the past two weeks
has had or three weeks, has had three concussions. Now,
part of it was two guys banging into each other,
but one of the things we started the year as
one of the worst rebounding teams in the country. Part

(04:21):
of it was by design. We were playing small h
and we you know, our big guys. We had a
couple that were not eligible, been hurt, et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera, and some of it's just we're playing small
and that's what you have to try and fight through
and be super efficient at the offensive end in order
to be successful. But in order to practice rebounding, hey,

(04:41):
practice rebounding you yet? Can you do it with pads? Yeah,
we do it with pads all the time, all the time.
But there's nothing like boxing out another body, and you
have to practice it, practice and practice, and what happens
is when you put your biggest bodies one, there's either
a fight or an injury.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
That's what happened.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
And I use that as a parallel to football because
that particular play like it's different than anything else you're
going to practice. And while you may think like, well, okay,
where's the injury data in the game, you have to
practice playing against it. In order to practice playing against it,
you have to have an offensive line that's going to
push out super super low and you have to practice

(05:22):
force on force. And my guess is that part of
it is like when they say injury, they don't just
mean injury during games, they mean injuries in practice. Would
your life be affected greatly, Dan Bayer if the tush
push went.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
Away, No, it wouldn't be affected greatly. But I do
think and I understand your point about the practice and
the injuries, but I think that saying that it's an
injury risk is the only way for them to disprove
this or to get this play eliminated.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
I mean years past to allowing this, you weren't allowed
to push your player forward in any instance, whether it
be at the fifty yard line or at the goal line.
We've now seen stops with a whistle isn't blown, and
there's just a massive humanity, and the crowd actually loves
that play. They love it when you're running back gets
six or seven yards because the linemen come downfield and

(06:18):
push that massive humanity that really isn't different in terms
of what the play does than the tush push in
getting that shove. But I do think that if the
play does result in more injuries at the one yard line,
then it would be something that they would look into.
But I just don't remember many injuries from that, and

(06:38):
that's why I think it's kind of an excuse to
get it banned. Is it's the only way that they're
going to be able to do so. It's saying it's
such an injury risk. I don't think that it's as
an unstoppable play as everyone thinks it is, just because
the Eagles run it so well. And kudos to Siriani
for developing this. I saw a TikTok clip ax of

(07:00):
what he did with the Colts and how this kind
of all originated with Jacoby Brissette when Philip Rivers was
the guy. So for him to not find a loophole
but find a way to make this a successful play
and what the pieces you have.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
I don't think it should.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Be banned, Chase do anything.

Speaker 7 (07:16):
But I think Dan's exactly right. He mirrors my thoughts
on it. Seems to be the way to get anything
changed is to go to player safety. If you cry
player safety, then people have to listen. And again, how
much data have we seen with these concussions? How much
data have we seen coming off the you know, the

(07:39):
practices or lack of practices and soft tissue injury. They
have data on everything, and I just haven't seen any
data on this that shows that it's a danger in
practice or in the games.

Speaker 6 (07:51):
I also think it's a much safer play than handing
it off to your running back and watching him go
airborne over a pile of massive humanity at the one
yard line where he could get clocked or clock someone
else that's also trying to meet him six feet up
in the air, trying to prevent him from going into
the end zone.

Speaker 7 (08:08):
Yeah, and like Guda Constu think came out today and
confirmed that the Packers, you know, were the team, And
it's like, I think, Sirianni, that was a long way
of saying this. If don't ban it, just learn how
to stop it or do it yourself. If everyone does it,
then that'd be cool. But yeah, I don't. I don't

(08:29):
see what the band does. It seems like it's teams
being lazy and not wanting to coach against it.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Well, technically you're not allowed. You're not supposed to be
able to push somebody, right, that's like against the rule?

Speaker 8 (08:41):
Is it?

Speaker 6 (08:41):
You're not this should call a penalty on him, and
it used to you wouldn't be able to do that,
but like the bush push, Yeah, but now it's completely allowed.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Well it allowed or is it legal? Right?

Speaker 5 (08:53):
It's just not No, it's legal.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
So what about the play? Is it's that how low
they can and they take out guy's legs? Is that
the deal?

Speaker 6 (09:04):
The leverage on the play, I think is the key
portion of it. But what makes it I think they
feel so successful are the two guys behind him, behind
the quarterback and Jalen Hurts and pushing him forward.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
But yeah, I just think if you make it so
you can't push the guy forward, then the playgu I.

Speaker 6 (09:23):
Just think that the Eagles just have the one of
the best offensive lines in football, and so it works
with them.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
I guarantee the Lions would do.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
It if they didn't have Jared Goff as their quarterback.
If you had someone like Jalen Hurts as your quarterback,
I'm sure that they would probably do the exact same thing,
because that's their advantage over the other team, is their
offensive line.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Of course, Josh Allen's season came to an end in
no small part because they couldn't execute it properly.

Speaker 7 (09:50):
And this is a very small sample, but the guys
on get up this morning, so there's three football players.
Foxworth and a couple other guys. Greeney came out and
said that it's unsightly and it's boring and you're gonna
lose viewers, and each football player who played the game

(10:11):
completely disagreed with that. It's boring, I guess, but like
if you have Jalen Hurts on your fantasy team, it
certainly isn't boring. You know, if you're an Eagles fan,
that certainly isn't boring. It's stop it.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
It's boring to watch. It's effective though, Again I'm not
saying it's not effective. It's boring to watch.

Speaker 7 (10:32):
You had Jalen Hurts on your fantasy team, right, I did. Yeah,
you profited from.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
It, I listened to. Again, I'm playing by the rules,
you know, playing by the rules. So I'm not disputing
that it's effective, and I'm simply saying I believe that
the safety issue is Is it a bit of a
cop out? Sure? Is it probably a reality of trying
to practice against it. Yes, you could. You could describe it.

(11:00):
It's the perfect play for a quarterback, right where you
have the quarterback who benches or squats however many pounds,
six hundred pounds, whatever, he squats, and he's able to
use that, which is part of quality coaching, right, find
something your guys do well and lean into that, and
they do it exceptionally well. It is I don't know
if unsightly is the word that I would use. It's

(11:20):
not a particularly pretty place, it's messy, but it's it's
super effective. It's super effective.

Speaker 5 (11:27):
I do have some clarification.

Speaker 6 (11:28):
This is from an LA Times article in twenty twenty two.
Mike Pereira spoke with the LA Times, and in two
thousand and five the league clarified their stance where you
weren't allowed to push or pull a runner into the
end zone or I guess, on any point to the field.
What Pereira said was that the league found that pulling

(11:51):
ball carriers was easy to rule on. It was pushing
that was difficult. So in the example that I gave
about a ball at the forty yard binding, you just
have this massive humanity and two or three linemen run
down field and end up pushing that pile. How can
you legislate that? What Pereira said here was that the

(12:11):
NFL just decided, okay, it's it's all right to push,
considering there's so many instances where they found it difficult
to actually officiate what was pushing and who was pushing who,
and who was touching who in that regard. So it's
been around apparently a lot longer than I had thought
I thought, or maybe decade at the most, but apparently
it's been for about twenty years now.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
I had no idea, and obviously this switch that'll be,
this change that's made, because then that doesn't change any
of the blocking up front. If you want to go
low with the blocking, if you want your quarterback to
go low, fine, which you can't have as the push
from behind. And I'm with you, guys, I don't think
it's a true safety safety issue in the game. Although
you know how many times have we heard guys say,

(12:56):
you know, when you get to those you know, the
victory formation, you know you don't want defensive linemen shooting
out of people's legs. Well, in this particular case, you
have to shoot out some of his legs if you
want to stop the play. Give us your thoughts at
Gottlieb Show, Twitter, at goatlib Show, Instagram. Matter of fact,
I've seen my social media pages. Don't give us your thoughts.
You're good.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Stug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Did you guys hear
the story of the IU Indie bus catching on fire.
I know, Dan Byer you were. You were on air
right when that's that story came out.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
We were, Yeah, we heard about it, and Sam brought
it up at Is Love Hate Yesterday as well.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, I just can't imagine. I mean, and we we've
had some long bus trips as well. Head coach of
Indiana University, Indianapolis. It's in the same system as I
you that's in Bloomington, I you Indy the Jaguars. Paul
Godero is going to join us upcoming in the show.

(14:08):
There's another like, I actually like this story. I know
people are like killing Hubert Davis. Hubert Davis got an extension.
It was kind of announced today, but we'll get to
the backing. We'll get to the background on that and
what really happens. And so many people have zero idea
how these things work. And that's what I can I
can help you with. I am oh and two against them.
That's probably why he's kind enough to join us, because

(14:30):
everybody's been beating down his stories. The head coach of
IU indeed his first year with the Jaguars, and he
joins us now on Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Coach,
how are you, hey, Doug?

Speaker 8 (14:41):
How you doing?

Speaker 5 (14:41):
Man?

Speaker 2 (14:42):
I'm good? First, take me to the game, okay, Sunday? Right,
So you guys traveled when on on Saturday?

Speaker 8 (14:51):
Yep, went down there on Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
What what's the How far is it from your campus?

Speaker 8 (14:59):
Right at all?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Right? So you hop in the bus?

Speaker 8 (15:02):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (15:02):
And what how do you how do you like to
handle with the bus? Do you like to you practice
on campus then you go? Or do you like to
go there and shoot around?

Speaker 8 (15:11):
We do trying of two ways. We had a full
out practice in the afternoon and then got down there,
did dinner in a film session, and then I let
I let my assistant do optional shooting with the guys
at the gym for whoever wants to go. So, yeah,
I don't go, and a few of my younger assistants
take whoever wants to go for an hour.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
So you guys go and play Northern Kentucky For people
whon't know, Northern Kentucky is just just across the border
from Cincinnati, so essentially you're driving it's a two hour
drive for your campus. Right, you go and play a
hard fought game and you lose seventy one sixty one,
you pile on the bus. What happened?

Speaker 8 (15:52):
Then? Yeah, so you lose seventy one sixty seven, lose
by four. You know, tough game, and you know it
felt like we, you know, felt like it was let
one get away. So obviously we're down, only up two
hours until we get home, so we feel like we'll
be home before we know it. We're eating our Chipotle

(16:12):
or our postgame meal, and you know, we're thirty minutes
up the road, just crossed over into Indiana and lawrence Burg,
and you know, felt like what it feels like when
you hit a pothole, just like when you're driving your car.
You know, we knew we blew a tire, and but I,
you know, I sit up front. You know, I'm the

(16:33):
I'm in the first front row next to the door,
so diagonal from the driver is where I'm at. And
I knew it wasn't a front tire. I knew it
came from the middle of the bus. But you definitely
knew a tire had gone. And so we pulled off
to the side and my assistant, who kind of is
the liaison of travel and kind of helps with the

(16:53):
bus companies kind of followed our bus driver, who you
know was was an older an older gentleman, to followed
him out to kind of assist him and assess the situation.
And you know, knew that we'd be dealing with the
blown tire. As soon as my assistant gets out there,
he goes, hey, everybody needs to get off the bus now,

(17:14):
and someone grabbed the fire extinguisher. You know, as soon
as he gets off, the middle the middle tire on
the passenger side, if you will, is blown and we're
on the right side of the of the highway. And
but right he noticed as soon as we got off
there that there was a fire underneath the bus that

(17:36):
started a small fire, and you know, I grabbed the
fire extinguisher because it was under my seat, and you know,
I'm the first one off, and I give it to
the driver and you know, we shoot it, you know,
three or four times with the fire extinguisher and it's
not taken or doing anything. The fire just keeps getting
bigger while everyone on my team is getting off the bus.
It's growing and getting towards the back of the bus.

(17:58):
And thankfully, you know, people are exiting and getting off,
so by the time everyone's off the bus that you know,
the entire back of the bus is on fire. And
I'm thinking, oh man, this this fire had grown rapidly.
So I made the decision man that you know this
is near the fuel tank. You know this could blow.

(18:18):
And I just said, hey, we need to get as
far away from the bus as possible. And I just
said to everybody, go like, coach, what about our things.
I'm like, I'm not sure we have enough time. It's
not worth it. So, you know, we get as far
away as possible. You know, we get a couple of
football fields away, and you know, the whole buses in flames,
and you know it eventually does blow. Tires all burst,
the windows all crack, and the and the top pops off.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
You know, So yes, I will Paul crochero head coach
of you Indianapolis, showing us here on the Doug Gotlie Joan,
when you on the Doug Gottlie Show Fox Sports Radio,
when you say that the top pops off, was it
like a slow melting or is it like a boom?
And the thing goes flying again? Like we you got
to describe this horrific incident to us.

Speaker 8 (19:04):
Yeah, So like I mean, it was a slow like
we're kind of jogging and back tedaling. Like by the
time we got about one hundred yards away, like the
entire thing was in flames. And then you know, we
got probably probably about two hundred yards away and it
was still just burning. You know, it had been about
fifteen minutes and it was just burning, burning, burning, and
then you know, we hear kaboom, kaboom, kaboom, and I

(19:26):
think it was like the tires going, the tires popping,
and then the windows popping, and then you know, the
the top popped and you kind of see you saw
some things fly up from the top, you know. So yeah,
that was it was. It was pretty bizarre, you know.
And then you know when we got like I said,
the fire station eventually got there about fifteen twenty minutes

(19:48):
later and start hosing it down, and by that time
you just see smoke surrounding everything and the fires going down,
and yeah, it was just it was crazy, you know,
and you know, you never think something like that's gonna
happen to you, but like, you know, it's just one
of those things where it's a mechanical issue. The tire
definitely blew you know looking back that you know it

(20:12):
could have been something that there there. There might have
been a mechanical issue and there was a fire underneath
that caused the tire to blow. You don't know, I
don't know what happened. There's there'll be an investigation to
find out. But just like with any plane or any
bus or any automobile, there's always a risk, and you know,
thankfully that we're all safe.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Wow. Okay, so you guys lost the road unis was
did you have one set of unis or two set
of unis in the bus?

Speaker 8 (20:43):
We got two sets on there and uh our practice gear.
You'll get a kick out of this. So, I mean
we've lost pretty much. We almost all our team, our
team gear and staff gear and equipment, and you know,
pretty much all of our personal items. I grabbed my briefcase.
I at least had my my work computer and you
know my nextcut, you know, like my suitcase and stuff
was under there as well of my players are all

(21:04):
of our players stuff. But yeah, so our road unis
and our practice year. Last night I'm sitting there and
around eight thirty at night when I'm thinking about practice.
The next day, we had the day off yesterday, I
called my assistant and I'm like, hey, we don't have
practice jerseys, do you? And he's like nope. I'm like,
so what are we gonna do? He's like, yeah, I
was actually going to call you about that. You know,
we're do insuran and skins or what and uh so

(21:27):
and then I I remember that we actually had some
of our old I U p U I stuff before
the name change, so we actually kept using that today.
So thankfully we had a name change and some of
our old school name stuff that we we used today,
so uh that we kind of pivoted and went that
route today. And uh, we've just kind of been, you know,
improvising and adjusting on the fly. And yeah, it's been

(21:49):
it's been crazy, you know. And you know, like I said,
our guys, you know, they lost laptops. You know, we're
working with professors on getting extensions on things and you know,
going through the lists of personal items and going through
insurance claims right now, it's it's it's pretty bizarre, you know.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
I mean, obviously you're a head coach at you Indy,
which is a Division two school also in your hometown
in Indianapolis, right you were assistant coach there, you went
up to Fort Wayne for a couple of years an
assistant coach, then back at you Indy, which is for
people to understand, it's a different school than IUI, which
used to be iup UI at Combo of Purdue in Indiana.
Now it's just under the Indiana University umbrella. This year

(22:32):
first year there. But you know, you you brought you
you Indy up to being a top five team in
Division two basketball. Go back through your years in Division two.
You ever had anything like this, anything crazy like this happened?

Speaker 8 (22:45):
No, never, never. You know, I've Division two, my years
at Division one at for due Fort Wayne, now I've
been this is my fourteenth year in college basketball, and
never anything close. You know, I had one bus breakdown
when I was at p due Fort Way. You know,
was a Division two a long time. I never had
one trouble issue when I was at Division two. When
I was at due Fort Wayne, we were coming back

(23:07):
from Southeast Missouri State Semo, and we had a bus
breakdown and we had to stay one additional night overnight.
So my two travel issues really came at the Division
one level, never even at the Division two level. But
even that was just a typical breakdown, nothing to this magnitude.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
The worst part is you lost the game, right like
that's I mean all that stuff, all the personal stuff.
You're like, do you won the game? The story would
have been like, you know, hey, at least we won,
but you lose the game. You guys could have had
a two game winning street come down for the home
stretch site. You play well and you're just sitting there
how much of the game, because I'm sure you're wired
this way where you're sitting on that bus and maybe

(23:46):
you're watching the game at the time at the laptop
and you're just seeing all the different things over and
over your head, and now the bus catches on fire.
In the time since how much time has been dedicated
to in your brain the bus and how much is
on that damn game they got away that afternoon.

Speaker 8 (24:03):
It's not as much as it typically would, you know,
Like I feel a little bit behind Doug, to be
honest with you, because you know, it's just been kind
of a role wind, you know, and we did feel
like we let one get away. I mean Kreitton, Northern Kentucky,
they're playing really, really well right now, as you know,
they're playing some of their best basketball. But you know,
seventy one sixty seven on the road. You know, we

(24:24):
had a really good week last week. You know, we
beat Detroit eighty to seventy one on the road. Then
we lose by four at Northern Kentucky and you know,
and you know how that is possession basketball. Four points,
And there's a lot of things that we did that
we could have done better. We gave up ten threes
and didn't defend the arc really well, and had some
blown plays down the stretch, especially offensively, where we've done

(24:47):
to execute some of our sets. And it's like, guys,
you know, two three different possessions right there. It's a
different ball game. So yeah, I am pulling my hair
out and then I'm upset and then that happens. It's like, man,
what this That week could have been just a great,
great week and then it came to a crashing burn.
You know, no pun intended. So it could have been
a great finish of the week. But hey, the sun

(25:07):
came up all Monday and we're still here. You know,
we're still here.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Yeah, I just I picture, you know, how the dudes
get in the back of the bus or they got
the slides on, they got the headphones on. You're like
everybody off the bus, and you know, there's like trudging
along and then all of a sudden they see the fire.
They wake up and they move a whole lot quicker,
like I just.

Speaker 8 (25:27):
Well, they they thought we were going to get back on,
and like you know, when we send everybody off the bus,
it's like, yeah, okay, we'll be getting back on. Most
of our guys got off like real quick and didn't
and grab their cell phones with their wallets because it
was like a fire drill at school. Yeah, you know,
like hey, you know we're going outside real quick, we're
gonna get back on. Like you know, I had a
kid that you know, didn't grab his wallet. You know,

(25:47):
his id's burned, his credit cards, You had a couple
hundred dollars cash, the cell phone burned. You know, like
that's kind of stuff we went through and blame and
we didn't We didn't tell them they grab everything. You know,
we didn't know what was going to happen, you know,
and so it was you know, items were lost. But
you know I said this yesterday and I'll keep saying
it several times. You know, items can re replace people can't.

(26:09):
You know, that's the most important thing. I'm really proud of,
you know, my staff, especially my assistant that had the
presence of mind to say everybody off right now, because
if he would have waited, you know, that could have
been really bad. And you know, I thought that was
really quick thinking on his part, and I'm glad we
made the decision to get as far away from the
bus as possible and knowing that things popped and ultimately,

(26:32):
you know, you know, certain things on the bus end
up exploding because you know, people could have been hurt
if we were closer. So safety first, you know, it's unfortunate.
But you know, playing the number one team in the
league on Thursday, which we do, doesn't seem like as
big of a challenge after being on the burning bus.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
No, But but it is what is out there for you.
It's been since what twenty nineteen that the program and
it's just Paul Caser's first year as head coach, Benston's
nineteen that you had double digit wins in the look
it's not the ultimate goal, but does it what does
it do or what does it maybe change or adjust

(27:09):
in terms of trying to get to that goal of
getting to double digit wins and then making a run
to Indianapolis coming off of this incident.

Speaker 8 (27:20):
Yeah, I mean that would be incredible, you know, I
kind of you don't get me wrong. I've used that
fuel for fire, you know. And remember a few years ago,
I remember the year but Michigan kind of went something
with through something like this with John DeLine where you know,
the plane went down or on the runway and they
had to play in their practice jerseys. And I think
they made it all the way the Big Ten Championship
game or maybe maybe even won it. And you know,

(27:43):
I mentioned that to our guys, so you know, and
I think we're playing really well right now, Doug, and
you know in in our hometown. So yeah, definitely that would.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
Mean a lot.

Speaker 8 (27:53):
We're one went away. We've already won the most games
that are programs won in six years, you know, nine,
So that's that's in for in year one with pretty
much a brand new program. No one's won our uniform,
you know, in our program. We we have a completely
new roster. So I definitely feel like we've done some

(28:13):
good things, you know, programs sitting the right direction, but
definitely get into double digits and and making run of
the tournament. That's the next step. We're not satisfied.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Yeah, well, listen, if you shoot like you shot against
us in the first half, ten of fourteen from three
against against Robert Morris, you're being really really good shape.
And most importantly, you guys are you guys are healthy?
And okay, hey, real quick, coach. If somebody needs to,
you know, they to donate or to help you guys out,
do you guys have a way to do so?

Speaker 8 (28:40):
Yeah, I mean we appreciate that. It's about the players,
you know. You know our link you What we're gonna
do is anything within il We're just going to divide
up right away over the course of the next couple
of weeks and and and just and just give it
up to our guys even late. That's the easiest way
and the legal way to do it. In terms of
program stuff, you know, we're gonna get that through insurance

(29:00):
and Adidas of stepping up there. It's all about the players,
you know, and insurance could take months. I want my
guys to be able to you know, put money in
their pocket and get closed and you know, take care
of their laptops and that kind of stuff, and and
and that that's my main concern is my guys.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Well, hey, good luck against against the Colonials. We hope
to see you in Indianapolis. We got our own tough
games upcoming, but really appreciate join us and glad you're safe.

Speaker 8 (29:26):
All right, Thanks a lot. Good talking to you for sire.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, everybody
has things that they wish they could take back, but
only Dan has buyers remorse.

Speaker 9 (29:38):
Some have remorse.

Speaker 6 (29:39):
I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior.

Speaker 9 (29:44):
I engage, but there's nothing quite like buyer's remorse.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Danny, what do you what this week? Would you do?
You have remorse?

Speaker 5 (29:55):
Couple of quick ones, Doug.

Speaker 6 (29:56):
Those Ohio State buck guys on a slide and fall fast.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
From the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 6 (30:02):
Picture amazing to think that this team could still be
on the bubble. But that's exactly where they are. And
the buyer's remorse really is a buyer's remorse in regard
to some of the nil moves that Ohio State made
this past offseason, and it is a real, real picture
of what the other side of the coin is. Sometimes

(30:22):
there's a lot of big hits. Cam Ward at Miami
could be the first overall pick in the draft. Maybe
a big hit there. But in college basketball, some of
Ohio State's NIL players or players that came for NIL
have been absent. Michie Johnson hasn't been with the team
for months, Aaron Bradshaw is in and out of the lineup,
didn't play against UCLA this past weekend. And yeah, there

(30:45):
is a flip side to NIL. And there's also this, Doug.
It's do you feel bad or do you not feel bad?
I was always told never criticized high school players when
you're doing play by player.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
Of those games.

Speaker 6 (30:55):
Totally get it, and I almost felt that in a
way college players were a little bit under that umbrella
as well. But now in the NIL era, you know,
is it fair to be critical? But yeah, just given
a different look on it. So some buyer's remorse when
it comes to NIL not working out in college basketball.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Well, listen, I I think we've talked about this. You
go back to Spencer Rattler at Oklahoma and there was
I don't know if that was and I don't think
NIO was involved at that point, but it was. Sports
gambling has become so widespread, even with colleges that I
think we view players differently and now you nil they

(31:33):
people view them as essentially professionals. Yes, I think it's
way more vicious, way, way, way way more of it.
Fans are just awful. Does it make it okay as
a broadcaster, I think it would depend on what you said. Again,
I just depend on what you sure and at your life.
If somebody does a dumb play, you can say that.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
I'm also in the point one percent. But I think
even with a fan base, there are people who are critical.
And now you're wondering if do they have more of
a like to stand on because of NIL commitments to
these players.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
Yeah, it's a it's a fascinating it's a fascinating question.
I don't know if I have the answer to it.
I've I've never been scared to be critical of a player.
I just what I always find interesting is you can
be critical of a player but not a person. There's
two very different things. We smart people can make really
dumb playing. I have a point guard who's absolutely brilliant kid,

(32:26):
a really smart basketball player, and he made two just
dumb plays that kind of got us beat if out
a three point shooter and then Youngstown State has the
nation's leading shot blocker, and we talked about, hey, when
you get in there. He had the playoff a shot
picker keeper dribble alive and we caught gnashing out of there.
Let other guys cut through, and he tried to He
challenged the boss and the boss one in late in

(32:48):
the game a two point game. So but again, I
think you can be critical of the play, not the
person you know that I think is regardless of nil.
But it's it's a hard one any other ones.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
Nope, that's it.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
Okay, great stuff, Dan Byer Buyer's remorse, And of course
he's got the I Want Your Flex podcast and you
hear him Sunday's here on Fox Sports Radio, coming on
next to the Doug Gottlieb Show. You know, Rocket is,
Rocket wants to have you have the biggest and most
important part of the American dream. Right? What is that?

(33:22):
What is the American dream? It signifies to me owning
my own home. There's nothing like that feeling of signing
your name on the document going this is my little
place in heaven. Right. If you feel like owning your
own home is out of reach, well, Rocket is here
to give you back the keys because they believe that
everyone deserves a shot at the American Dream. Own the dream.

Speaker 6 (34:48):
North Carolina men's basketball coach Hubert Davis is going to
stick around for a while, sign an extension with the
school this past summer through twenty thirty that no one
really knew about. UNC also announced earlier today that NBA
agent Jim Tanner has been tabbed as the Tar Heels
men's basketball general manager.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
Yeah, listen, I understand Tar Hills aren't having a great year.
I get it. I know here personally, he's one of
the five best human beings in the sport. I mean
that is just incredible, incredible human being. The way these
deals worked, are you agreed to him a long time?
Then lawyers get it. It's a lot like the Bill
Belichick thing with well his contract wasn't signed. Yeah, when

(35:27):
you become the head coach, you sign an MoU a
memo of understanding, and then within the memo of understanding
there's an explicit number of days thirty sixty ninety. Just
like closing on a house, when you got to close
on the contract, so it doesn't get done overnight. That's
the reason that this thing just now gets out there.

Speaker 6 (35:43):
We had a conversation last week when you were outdug
with former tar Hills, said coach Roy Williams talking about
his role with the program now and what he's done
with Hubert. So I encourage people to check out the
podcast to.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
That Broy Williams on last week.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
Yeah, yes, yes, yeah, here's some of it.

Speaker 10 (36:00):
I had tremendous confidence who still have dremendous confidence in Huber.
He knows where I am. I don't go and knock
on his door and say, let's talk about this on
offense of this on defense, I don't do that. We
do talk, we do text back and poor. But I'm
a fan right now and that's the way.

Speaker 8 (36:18):
I like it right now.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Wow, that's a good get. I encourage everybody to go
listen to that. I'm gonna listen that. I didn't even know.
That's awesome. What else?

Speaker 6 (36:27):
Doug Open quarterback competition in Indianapolis. We have the news
a little bit ago, but Chris Ballad says that there
will be a competition with Anthony Richardson and whatever quarterback
they decide to bring in.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
That is a vote of no confidence. Who's going to
compete with I don't know, but anybody sure.

Speaker 5 (36:45):
Well he has been given. Joe Flacco was there.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
I know it is the reality of it, but it
is interesting that he was. He that was his response
as opposed to like, well let's see what it looks like,
you know, and then you get a quarterback and you're like, okay,
well it's going to be the open competition. They're like,
well who, I don't know, but they're still gonna to
be with Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 6 (37:04):
Falcon say Kirk Cousins will remain on the team as
a backup to Michael Pennock Junior for the foreseeable future.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Also weird, right, super weird, and like Kirk obviously handles
it like a pro. I'm guessing they're going to hold
onto him until somebody lose their quarterback try and trade him.

Speaker 5 (37:18):
And as for any news on Miles Garrett, here was
brons Jim Andrew Barry.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
You've had plenty of dialogue throughout the season and after
the season ended. You know, certainly both both him and
his camp again.

Speaker 8 (37:26):
You know, our interest is in uh in keeping Miles.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
In Cleveland, so right now, no deal for Miles Garrett
to leave Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
That they're very matter of fact with with how Andrew
Bury asked that question. He's like, yeah, we had lots
of talks. He's not We're not traded him.

Speaker 5 (37:41):
That's the get out. They're impressed.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
That was the press. The other part two those trades
is all those guys that want to be traded won
a new contract and they're like, yeah, I don't think
anyone else wants that. Check Out the podcast Doug Gottlieb Show,
