We'll let you get there at unmatched selection, fast free shipping,

a we got in the slate tonight? Boys? We got
some college hoop? Uh obviously some Major League Baseball spring

(00:44):
training games. Don't clap, don't lap? Oh look at this? Oh,
look at this. The Lakers host the Mavericks. Oh isn't
that interesting? Right? Oh? How are those two teams connected?
That's right, The Lakers and Mavericks pulled off a trade

(01:05):
a couple weeks ago, setting the sports World sports radio
sports talk show world on fire, as Luca is going
to face the Mavericks for the first time since becoming
a member of the LA Lakers. Now on the other side,
Anthony Davis still not healthy, still not playing. So it's
not the two sides of the trade are not completely whole.

(01:30):
But it does make it interesting and the Lakers, I think, obviously,
can capitalize on some emotional momentum, even if the actual
momentum it's like, well, when they lost two in a row,
nobody said anything. Now they beat the Blazers, who stink
and Lebron was amazing, and then they beat the Nuggets.
Now after a couple of nights off, they got the Mavericks,
then the Wolves, then the Clippers as we start to

(01:52):
get into the stretch run of the second half of
the season. But again I implore you to remember the
running back market. When you're talking about Luca, you have
to remember the running back market. And you're like, wait,

(02:13):
Luca is a point forward, he's a point guard. This
is not what is your deal with the running back market? Well,
it's we cannot lose sight of the fact that a
trade of this magnitude is not made for just one season.
And honestly, if the Mavericks do get you know when

(02:33):
they get Anthony Davis back. If they are healthy, I
would tell you the Mavericks have a greater chance and
I think most people would think they get a greater
chance of winning NBA Championship than the Mavericks two despite
having Lebron and Luca on the same team. They just
don't have enough high quality defenders. Yeah, there'll be some
games looks great, but and you can only you can

(02:54):
only play junk defenses so much. And that's really what
they did against the uh against the Denver Nuggets. And look,
when you're undermanned defensively, sometimes you just have to trick them,
and that's what they did. But for a regular season game,
it's hard. Over a seven game series, nearly impossible. But

(03:17):
when I say there's a parallel to the running back market,
I mean it from this perspective. Right now, everybody thinks
that the Giants are idiots, and they may well be,
as they were right there in a bidding war and
allowed Saquon Barkley to go out and see the market.
He ends up signing with the Philadelphi Eagles. They win
a Super Bowl, and it's, in all honesty, the best
thing that ever could happen to Saquon Barkley's career. But

(03:41):
had the Giants been willing to play ball and overpay
for too long of a contract for a contract of
a running back despite the fact the running back, no
matter how much they like, has been hurt and the
likelhood of him being great in year three isn't strong.
So right now, you know, look at how many running

(04:01):
backs the Raiders had. A high quality run back he's
with the Packers had a great year. But all of
these stories were about three year guaranteed contracts, not about
the first year. When people said the running back market
has been suppressed, yeah, they mean the top end of
the dollars. Sure, but in one year you're making over
ten million, you know, twelve thirteen million dollars year. It's

(04:22):
good money. The difference is that people weren't rolling to
go to that third year. Well, here's the parallel to
the Luca and Ad trade. My expectations are without Ad,
the Lakers are a much better team. Let's see what
happens tonight. But in terms of who got the better
of the trade, this is not a one year trade.
It's not. It's kind of a forever trade. But definitely

(04:44):
this and next and the following year are super telling
the Lakers will never let Luca go. Why would they?
He's the top five player in the NBA. And the Mavericks,
of course, out of what they extended to to the
Lakers and what they got in return. I guess is
Anthony Davis will never go anywhere either, and why should
he if he's healthy. He's awesome as well. But the

(05:07):
point is that this trade. While we're all of our
human nature says whoever wins tonight's game won the trade,
reality is it's what's done during the contract and you know,
if a contract extension is raised, if they had to
trade him again, all of that comes back to this

(05:28):
very trade. So it's really easy to get caught up
in a late February game between a team that reached
the NBA Finals last year, a team that reached the
Western Conference Finals the year before, one that has Lebron James,
one that has Anthony Davis, one that has Luka Doncik.
It's a good TV watch, but without Anthony Davis tonight,
you won't see the real Mavericks. And none of that

(05:50):
actually matters because they won't face each other in the
playoffs very likely, and this is not a one or
a half yer trade. It's a forever trade, and it's
very easy to get caught up in that vortex of
thinking that one game means that the Lakers won the
trade or the Mavericks won the trade. It's you have

(06:12):
to break down the gross total of games and what
nets out. Do you net out a positive or not
on a negative because the guy you traded for. This
is the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
You know, I'm I'm intrigued by It's not that the

(06:36):
crowd response is interesting, but you know, and I'll bring
in buyer on this one. I thought it was cool
when Lebron let Luca be introduced last on his first
game as a Laker, and they talked about it going
back that way. What do you think they do tonight?
Not that it matters. I like being introduced last. That
was always fun in college. It's a cool thing. Do

(06:59):
you think they go back to that way just because
tonight's Luca's night playing against the Master?

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yeah? Probably, I'm sure that they will. It's funny because
I look at tonight, it's such a such a weird
night because Luca is playing and Anthony Davis isn't. And
so what do you do with the Lakers, And what
do you do as the Lakers fans with Anthony Davis?
Do they give him a tribute video? If they do,
are you just kind of caving in to that point?

(07:24):
But if you don't, do you get criticized for it?
So I look at that angle is more interesting. But
I think that when you talk about what the Lakers
do with Luca, yeah, I wouldn't doubt if they give
him that opportunity to stick it to his own own
old team, allow Nico Harrison to hear the cheers that
Lucas going to get. I absolutely for a team that

(07:44):
is all about showtime and showmanship, I think that that
would be the case. But I just wonder what the
Lakers do with Anthony Davis, who again still at least
a week away from returning from his aductor strain, but
he was in the building today, was taking sh during
pregame warm up. So I'm curious about how the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
What would what would your decision be if you I think.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
You have to err on the side of giving him one.
I think a tribute video a way to honor him
because you also won the trade what's at least I
think that they won the trade, and I think that
it's only the right thing to do, and to show
those clips. Well, it may be hollow, but I think

(08:27):
you can You can only look bad if you don't
try to pull out all those stops.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Sure, sure, uh yeah, I think I think the only
way you get out of it is if you tell
if you tell him, hey, we're gonna next time you're playing,
Because now do they play again later this year?

Speaker 3 (08:47):
They do, but it's in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah, so they will they Dallas will do I'm sure
a tribute. Oh yeah, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
People be crying, everybody will be cheering for the Lakers back.
It's actually true. Like I mean, there's there they loved,
they loved Luca there, and I don't I don't know
if Anthony Davis, I don't know if they'll put Anthony
Davis showing up to Lebron's record breaker via the tunnel
in their highlight montage of of ways to honor a
d But you know they're gonna have. They have to.

(09:17):
They have to at least do something, even if it's
just sixty seconds long. They got to do something for
Anthony Davis.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Oh, I mean, they trade away so much in their
arsenal in order to get him, and you know, obviously
Lebron gets a ton of the fanfare, but Anthony Davis
is you know, one b in terms of why they
won that title in the bubble and last year. I
thought last year, I mean, I think it's kind of inarguable.

(09:45):
He was in the best shape of his life and
that was the best season of his life, and he's
truly a dominant player. So I agree with you that
they won the trade, but I don't think that means
Dallas necessarily. Dallas lost in the PR game. But there
is a world there where you're like, you know, Anthony
Davis isn't as good, but he's not that bad, and
he's awesome on defense. And if that money that they

(10:08):
didn't spend allows them to continue to add and keep
a championship team together, that's a different distory.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Isn't this just so indicative though, of how we viewed
this trade and how it was meaning Tonight's game, like
the first game isn't in Dallas, it's in La so
Luca can shine, Anthony Davis isn't available, Like there's just
I think it's a small snapshot of how we feel

(10:35):
this trade actually went down and how it could play out.
To your point, but it just everything about it, everything
that we had said, like why would you trade Luca?
Anthony Davis has always hurt? This is all that you've gotten.
What do you know when they go and match up
for the first time, Anthony Davis is hurt. Luca's coming
off one of his best games in his short stint

(10:55):
to probably his best game as a Laker in his
short stint with the team. They come off of a
huge win against the Nuggets. It's everything is turning up Lakers,
kind of like how we felt when this trade went on.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yeah, it's a fair point. It's a totally fair point.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Stut gott Leeb Show, Fox Sports Radio Turin that up, Sammy.
I know it's a instrumental so he hasn't announced it,
but it sure feels like Brett Veach thinks Travis Kelsey's
coming back. Don't believe me. Here's Brett Veach earlier today
at the Scouting combine how we left at the end
of the season is that he was fired up.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
He has one more year under contract and if you
still think he has that fire and desire to play,
And as far as I'm concerner, there is no deadline.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
I think we left it as he'd be back and
it's a real excited to get him back. Yeah, so
no deadline, he'd be back. We're excited to get him back,
but there is there does come a point of no return,
right There does come that point where you're just coming
back to come back or you know, we talked about

(12:07):
it before, and we'll talk about a little bit on
the pod, the idea of do you run it back
just to run it back because somebody goes, hey, man,
we only got nine, you know, and I will credit
the great Dan Bayer who two seats not this season.
Season before. Remember he left during his bye week, he

(12:29):
went down to was it sal Paolo? Where was that
Dan that he went to go see you?

Speaker 3 (12:33):
It was Brazil or Argentina, one of the.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Two, Okay, so it's one of the two. And he
went down there for a couple of days, saw his
girlfriend in concert, and came back. And my point in
time was like, it's your time off, it's whatever. And
Dan's point at the time was like, dude, that wears
you out. Where's you out? Now? They end up winning
the Super Bowl, I guess it didn't matter. But there
is something too, like once you get a taste of

(12:57):
the good life. And I'm not saying he hasn't had
the good life previously, because he's been rich for probably
the past ten years or so, right like, and ridiculously
wealthy for probably the past six or seven years. So
money has not been an issue to Travis Kelce and
I'm sure he doesn't doesn't price hunt. Oh how much

(13:20):
is the steake? No? No, no, that's okay. I won't
order an appetizer like he doesn't do that. But it's
a whole different world when you're a private jet and
when you've got a security detail, when you have award
winning chefs falling all over themselves just to cook you
a simple morsel, right, and you know there is a

(13:43):
It's like the do you want to play football? Yeah?
Do you want to do all the things it takes
to be great at football?

Speaker 5 (13:49):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Football? I mean he he couldn't get out of his
stands in the Super Bowl and he didn't block anybody
in the superpool, and and it's like Brett Viach is like, oh,
we're fired up to have him back, Like should you be?
Is that going to be better? You know that can
be better? Who among us thinks that Travis Kelce's gonna
spend the whole offseason working and getting the best shape

(14:16):
of his life. None of us? None of us.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
I'm sorry, go ahead, No, I was gonna say, I
think like in this weird way, and I'm not trying
to devalue the relationship between him and Taylor Swift. What
I am trying to say by this is you wonder
if Travis Kelcey feels in a way that he needs
to continue to keep his identity as the Chiefs tight end,
as that guy it's tough to look at life after football.

(14:43):
His brother has transitioned very well with a lot of
media opportunities. But you almost wonder if Travis Kelcey, in
terms of if he's going through that decision right now,
is he still wants to be Chiefs tight end Travis Kelcey,
Because it's a completely different world once you leave that world,
and I think that that could be a part of

(15:05):
all of this as well. Andy Reid was not as
much on board with what Brett Veach was saying. Today,
Andy Reid says that he still doesn't know what Travis
Kelsey's going to do, but I would have to think
that would at least be part of some of the
decision that Travis Kelsey has. There's got to be some
insecurity on who am I going to be in my
life after football, especially when I'm dating the biggest pop

(15:26):
star in the world.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Doesn't that though, affect.

Speaker 6 (15:36):
Gentlemen, Oh boy, gentlemen, I need to interrupt, gentlemen, gentlemen,
for the first time and only time in the history
of the world. If you look up at your clock,
it is two twenty five pm Central Time, Doug. That
means that right now it is two twenty five on

(15:59):
two twenty five, in twenty twenty five, two twenty five
on two twenty five, twenty twenty five, the only time
in the history of the world. Whether it will be
that I wanted to appreciate it. I want the listeners
to take a moment. That was very interesting. Okay, back
to uh regular schedule programming. Travis KELCEI talk.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
By the way, do you guys know what the police
code two two five is in regards to it's obstructing
a fireman. Well, I'm just saying like, if you're playing
blocker on a fire refirement's trying to go in and
save save a kitten out of a tree or or
put you know, put in a fire hose into the

(16:45):
fire hydrant, then and you're obstructing them, that's two two five. Yet, up,
I gotta rush. What if you got arrested on a
two two five at two twenty five on to twenty
five on two thousand and two hundre on twenty two five,
that would be a lot of two two fives, especially
if the address, especially if the address of where you

(17:09):
obstructed the fire person was on two twenty five Main Street. Wow,
just we had deep there.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Imagine what it was like eighteen hundred years ago at
this time. Oh man, somebody's using a Sun dial for that.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Crazy All right, stuck Got theb Show Fox Sports Radio.
John Middlecoff joins us. Of course, he hosts his own
pod three and out on the Volume Podcast Network. A
bunch of things to run through here. Travis kelce Beach
is like, yeah, he's coming back, and reads like, I
don't know My point is, like, when you're flying around

(17:45):
on private jets and you're dating a billionaire for several years,
what's the likelihood that you really really work and get
better so that you can block somebody this upcoming season?

Speaker 7 (17:58):
Yeah, I mean probably not high at this point in time.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
I mean, let's face it, you know, father time comes
for everyone in pro sports, and it definitely felt like
it was really coming for him last year. You know,
I think beats trying to be optimistic.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
But I listen to do.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
I think it would be the end of the world if,
you know, the transition just happened and he called it quits.
I think, in a weird way, I think they'd kind
of want that now. I also think what would be
on the table just because the you know, they're in
a weird spot because he's meant so much to the organization,
and the star quarterback and him are so tight. What
if he kind of pulled the Michael Straight hands and

(18:33):
just kind of shows up. You know, they improved the
team this offseason and he shows up late. I think
that would probably also be on the table.

Speaker 7 (18:39):
But if I was a betting man right now, I'd
guess he retires.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
If you're a betting man. What does Jaron Rodgers do.

Speaker 5 (18:49):
I think it'll have some clarity over the next week
because I think there are just a lot of dominoes.
It's kind of crazy to think. I mean, for his
entire career, if he was ever quote unquote available, he
would have been priority number one. I mean, the Denver
Broncos tried to move Heaven and Nurse. They literally hired
a guy in the hopes of trading for him, and
obviously that blew up his faith. But just a couple

(19:12):
of years later, like he's not you know, like Stafford's
way more important to his situation. And I think Cousins,
you know, some teams would go well.

Speaker 7 (19:20):
If they cut Cousins.

Speaker 5 (19:22):
I know, they claimed you they're going to keep him
at the lie if we can get Cousins for a
million dollars and he just you know, is healthier than
he was last year, which is risky.

Speaker 7 (19:31):
I mean, I may he might just be done.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
Is that a better deal than signing Rogers for twenty
five million and kind.

Speaker 7 (19:37):
Of all the baggage that comes with that. So, you know,
I think you got to look at the teams.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
You know, if the Rams and Stafford figured it out,
they'd obviously be out.

Speaker 7 (19:44):
It's the Titans, the Raiders, the Giants.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
I mean, that's that's kind of the crew squad.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Right, How good a shoudor Sanders?

Speaker 5 (19:54):
You know, I think historically, you know, before this quarterback inflation,
he was just your classic second round pick. And for
a lot of years, you know, Derek Carr drafted the
second round, immediate starter. Andy Dalton drafted in the second round,
immediate starter. But now these guys get drafted a lot
higher than you know, where.

Speaker 7 (20:11):
They used to because of the position.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
The emphasis has just gotten so strong. So I think,
you know, taking a guy sixth or fifth overall, it's
hard to live up to that standard.

Speaker 7 (20:22):
But I do think he's a good player.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
I mean I watched a lot of I gambled on
them a lot last year, and he's just.

Speaker 7 (20:27):
The skilled guy now relative to his dad, not the athlete,
not a huge arm.

Speaker 5 (20:33):
I think there are a lot of parallels, like guy
like Andy Dalton coming out of TCU, which sounds awful,
but for a long time, Andy Dalton was pretty solid player,
leading the team to the playoffs every year.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
No, Andy Dalton is a hell of a player.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
I think that Derek carr Andy Dalton just with a
lot more hype because of his dad.

Speaker 7 (20:53):
But I think what is he lacking?

Speaker 5 (20:56):
Well, not a great arm h you know, I say
his arms pretty average for NFL. Sanders, I would say,
you know, athletically, he's kind of like you know Burrow.
You know, he's not I think people think because of
the Sanders name. I mean, he's not some run around guy.
He's much more of a pocket play within the tackles.

Speaker 7 (21:20):
Quarterback. And the other thing I think you.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
Just are concerned about if you play in the Big
ten or you play in the SEC, you're just playing
against big time NFL defensive linemen so and linebackers, so
getting hits and like getting a feel for what it
looks like. You know, he kind of you know, the
Big twelve is not a great defensive conference. And I'll see,
we'll see when the draft comes out, but I know

(21:43):
you follow that conference pretty closely over the last like
five six years. They're not pumping a lot of dudes
defensively high no apransitions.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
They haven't really ever. I mean that's that's always been
the argument for the SEC and against the Big twelve
is that as you see, just better defensive lines.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
Especially with Texas and oklahom Especially with Texas and Oklahoma gone.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Now, well with them gone, it's like it's it's a complete,
complete mismatch. Okay, Cam Moore, I like him, I mean I.

Speaker 7 (22:09):
Think he's solid. But do I like him at pick four?

Speaker 6 (22:11):
No?

Speaker 7 (22:12):
I like him to pick forty.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
Sure, So is he a long term start in the NFL?

Speaker 7 (22:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (22:18):
I mean I think when you look at like Derek
Carr and Andy Dalton, both those guys had long starting careers.
But I think a lot of times when you get
drafted really high, you go to really crappy teams, So
it can, you know, if you're not as talented, it
can kind of overwhelm you. And I think that would
be the concern because I mean, as we sit here,
a lot can change, obviously, especially with these veteran quarterbacks.

(22:42):
But would it be a little surprising.

Speaker 7 (22:44):
From where you're sitting if he's not drafted in the
top ten.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
It would be very surprising.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
Yeah, so he's gonna go to a bad.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Team, yeah, yeah, and he's gonna have to play right away.

Speaker 5 (22:59):
I actually think the Raiders with Pete Carroll, who you
know at the end he battled with Russell and they
wanted to pass more. I mean, let's face it, Pee
Carroll at his core, the guy who's you know, coached
in the nineties the two thousands, run the ball, play defense.
That actually be a pretty good spot for him, you know,
not right now. I mean their team's not good, but

(23:20):
I'm just saying philosophically how they'd want to play. I
think of all the teams that are bad at drafting
high you know, I think getting around Pete and that
energy and plus, I would say Pete is the one
guy who'd be pretty unfazed by you know, it's some
bridge starter started Week one and Dion went on first take.
I don't think Pete rattled by any of that.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
It's the doug ottlief Shaw on Fox Sports Radio, John
Middlecoff is our guest Sam Donald best. Guess where's he go?

Speaker 5 (23:50):
I think I think Raiders are in play. I think
all those teams and they quarterbacks are in play because
I think, you know, let's face that those last two
games had had some pretty negative ramifications on his value.

Speaker 7 (24:03):
You know.

Speaker 5 (24:03):
I think sometimes we can overhype, like, oh, there's a
lot of money on the line.

Speaker 7 (24:07):
I mean that there wasn't a lot of money online.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
Where the guy had those two games and it did
not go well, So could you get the guy for
a couple of years, you know, fifty million dollars. It's
a pretty unique spot where you can get a guy who,
if you do a good job, like you can compete
to make the playoffs, but doesn't cost you like crazy,
crazy money. And you know, the one thing, when the
Bucks paid Baker that you know, thirty million dollars a

(24:30):
year contract, they had already had him for a year.
So there is also some risk whenever you buy a
quarterback it's.

Speaker 7 (24:38):
Like you don't know the guy. I mean, look at
the Falcons.

Speaker 5 (24:40):
I mean they regretted that move pretty quickly. And so yeah,
I would say that to all the teams that need
a quarterback, I'd be stunned if they're not having like
serious meetings with his agents and just gauging the market gauging.
I would imagine they all like him because, let's face,
besides the last two games, he did play really well

(25:01):
most of the seasons.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
Okay, I'm I'm kind of interested in this. You might
have heard Dan Buyer's update where Kirk Cousins for the
time being is going to remain on the falcons? How
does that work? I mean, I guess also if somebody's
guy goes down, you know, then maybe they think they
can do the Sam Bradford.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
But he's got but he's got a no but he's
got a no trade class, right.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
You know, so he's like, is he gonna be happy
sitting there?

Speaker 7 (25:27):
No?

Speaker 5 (25:28):
But I think what they're doing right now is everyone
and their mother thinks, well, you're gonna cut them because
he's got I think, you know, a ten plus million
dollar bonus coming here in a couple of weeks. He's
got a no trade clause, so it's full like you
can just you know, throw him around anywhere. And he's
probably thinking, you cut me, you pay me the twenty

(25:48):
seven million dollars and someone can sign me for a
couple of million dollars.

Speaker 7 (25:51):
I can go wherever the hell I want.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
I actually think, And I was just writing down what
I want to talk about in the podcast. I think
it's kind of embarrassing that, to be honest with you,
because it's like, you guys just missed the playoffs and
your quarterback situation was really clunky, and now to like
fletch your muscles like he's going to be the backup
making almost thirty million dollars, which is, I don't care

(26:16):
how big the cap goes.

Speaker 7 (26:18):
It's less the guy gets Bence mid season like he
did last year.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
No one goes into the season with a backup, I
don't know making more than ten million dollars. So to
pay a guy almost thirty million dollars, especially a guy
that's been a long time starter in his mind thinks
he can still play and literally just started for you
last year. I thought that comment with Rahee Morris is
and this is what happens sometimes we anoint these guys
Ernie Morris.

Speaker 7 (26:40):
Orne Morris.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
Doesn't that feel like the Falcons are a little over
their heads? Just the whole the whole situation just feels clunky,
Like that does that feel like something Hardball or Sean
Payton or Mike Mike Comlin or any of these guys,
Like it feels like they don't really know McVay his guy,
Like they don't really know what they're doing, and they're,
you know, come trade for him. Well, it's like even

(27:02):
if a team wants to trade for him, cousins can.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
Just say no.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
So I think Rahiem. I don't know, man, It's not
just him. I mean, it's just I'm sure the organization,
you know, him and the GM and Richard McKay have
talked about this.

Speaker 7 (27:15):
But give me a break.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
What do you think happens to Stafford?

Speaker 5 (27:23):
Listen, I'm not one to tell someone how much money
they should take or want or whatever. But when you've
made almost four hundred million dollars in your career, you're
thirty seven years old, I mean you've made more than
guys like Peyton Manning, and for the majority of your career,
in the prime of your career, your your team sucked
and you were just in football irrelevancy, and then you

(27:46):
get traded to this guy who didn't resurrect.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
Your career because you were a good player.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
But you've got to win and just consistently win, like
every year. So yeah, the Rams, I don't even they
can start one and four, they'll be in the playoffs.
I mean last year they went to to toe with
the champs. I mean they were what twenty yards away
winning that game in Philadelphia, and I understand he looks
around and goes, I'm worth way more than what I'm
getting paid. He's not wrong, but like you're in this

(28:12):
incredible spot. You have made an ungodly amount of money,
and you've made more money because once you get trade
of the rams, like I see you on Sleep number commercials,
you weren't doing those when you're on the Lions, Like
wouldn't you just signed like a two year, like fifty
million dollar contract and be like, Sean, let's build this,
let's go sign some sweet dudes and let's let's like
win the super Bowl again.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
I mean, Brady did it for a long time.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
It's like what in that listen the Stafford comes from
that Peyton Manning school with you know, Tom Condon and
now having Jimmy Sexton is running, it's like we need
every penny, we need every Tenny, It's like, okay, trade
go to the Giants and get fifty million dollars a year.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
Then buddy, John metalcoff three and now's the podcast. Check
it out, download it, put it in your queue. But
He's the best is the best, Johnny, thanks so much

Dan Byr.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
What do you got, Bud.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
It's a Tuesday, Doug. So the game today is rank
Rank them all? Right, we start in the NBA, Doug,
rank your top three candidates for the NBA's Most Valuable
Player Award. There's an overwhelming favorite right now, but there
are some others that are.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Trailing with the overwhelming favor What's up is Giannis the
overwhelming favorite.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Shay Gilgess Alexander about minus five hundred.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
Because they're winning so much. Yes, and just because of
the leagus of the league in scoring. Yes, he's played, he's
played all fifty six games.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
The last night couldn't get it done as the Timberwolves
come back from twenty to five down.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
And I mean the only thing you would pick apart
about his game on the offensive side is says three
point shooting is at thirty six, which is low and
nowadays compared to you know, heck Yoki shoot forty four
from three? You know ant Man shoots? Was it forty
and at point six from three? Okay? So I have
to rank them?

Speaker 3 (31:02):
Yes, your top three?

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Rank them?

Speaker 2 (31:06):
I'll go, uh, I'll go ant Man three, Yo Kich two,
Shay gildzugs et one.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
All right, Doug, moving from the NBA to college basketball,
rank your top three college basketball coaches of all time?

Speaker 2 (31:28):
Oh, all time, all time.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
There's a reason while you mull it over.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Dick Bennett at three, uh, Brad Stevens at two, m
and number one? Sure?

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Huh So Brandon Tierney host in New York.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Yeah, one, he's a he pitched at Saint John's. I
guarantee Patino's one, yes, And I have no problem puting
Patino one. But I mean, you know, it's like you Patina.
I think Patino's amazing. I'll go Patino one. I'm okay,
you're done with that. Sure? Whatever?

Speaker 3 (32:16):
What about Wooden?

Speaker 2 (32:17):
I mean, he's amazing, incredible Coach K, Bill Self, incredible
Coach K. Remarkable coach Bennett because I mean what he
was able to do here Wisconsin. This is the twenty
fifth anniversary of the Final Four, you know, just building

(32:39):
and not having anything in terms of like top end,
crazy crazy talent. You know, his son was really good.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Obviously, I can't wait for the bro Bible article to
be like Doug Gottlieb doesn't have John Wooden or Coach
K in his top three of all time coaches. Whatever.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Let everyone be quiet. I mean you could you could do,
you could do Jay Wright hit what he did. But
you know, Bill Self, what I love about Patino is
Patino and this is winds a lot like it. Some
of the stuff people copy is O things. They copy
Jay Wright things, but like, how many things has Patino

(33:18):
come up with that everyone copies. He was the first
to tank. He was the first to tank when he
was with the Celtics state tank to try and get
Dave Robinson had two lottery Pickscott neither of them got
there for number one pick. You know, his conditioning, his
unique way of pressing into a matchup zone.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
I watched some of that Vice series that they had
on him, and they did a deep dive into how
Providence used the three point line to their advantage.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
Yeah, he was the first.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Yeah, yes, because that was the first year that it
was implemented, that in nineteen eighty seven. So so all right,
moving on, next question. Rank the top three teams in
college basketball right now?

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Okay, I'll go with who's my number three? I know
my number two, Number one is my number three. Mm,
I'll go Florida at three, Auburn had two, and Duke

(34:22):
at one.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
They got the they've got the head to head over Auburn.
Duke does, so they do. I'm game with that, all right, Doug,
Rank the top three teams in the Horizon League.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Oh, that's a great question. It's a really good question.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
It's just going to be bulletin board material.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Probably will be. There's like four teams that are like
better than four or five teams are kind of better
than everybody else, and then we're down in that bottom group. Obviously.
I don't know, Like Robert Morris is probably gonna win
the league. They're really good, and I don't know if
they're like imper better than a couple of the others.
But the pieces fit together really really well. I'll put

(35:05):
them at one. I'll put Cleveland State at two, and
they just make winning games. They got a good group
h and three. I'll go Milwaukee at three. Okay, they
went in and beat Youngstown in a great environment and
then lost to Robert Morris. I'll put put Milwaukee. They

(35:25):
got the kids still well. Who leads the country rearbounding.
He's a monster, all right.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
Final one dog the Wisconsin timber Rattlers. Not far from
where you are in greenvill Yeah, down, Haddington. They will
be for one game this season July twelve, twenty five,
be known as the Wisconsin Frozen Pizzas.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Okay, I told you frozen beacha is huge here.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Oh yeah, absolutely?

Speaker 2 (35:46):
I pick is my is the favorite kind?

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Well? What is your What are your three favorite frozen
pizza toppings?

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Oh? Well, I know what number one is. I don't
even know what the other choices are because I don't
think I've had anything else than that, but frozen pizza toppings.
Number three will be Canadian bacon, which I am. Number
two is sausage. Number one is pepperoni.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Not even a combo sausage pepperoni that would have been accepted.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
Oh, I didn't know that was possible.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
But it's too late, and that's game time.

Speaker 4 (36:24):
This is game time on the Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
I know it's like eighty where you guys are, but God,
I'm thinking of summer right now and it does not
feel like summer. Coming up next the tush push. Should
we get rid of it? We'll discuss next
