Well what an experience it was last night for both
the Toronto Raptors on the road kind of expected, you know,
his cat playing with mouse a little bit. As the
(00:43):
calves dominated the Raptors, they did allow the Raptors to
creep back in the game before smashing them. You know
you're getting clowned in basketball when dudes are throwing the
ball off the backboard. Right. If somebody's throwing the ball
off the backboard and in transition to another dude and
he's getting a dunk, you know you're getting clowned. The
(01:05):
other thing, you know it's bad when guys who come
in off the bench are trying to fight, and that's
what happened in the nightcap. Like, there's lots of things
that are different about basketball at the NBA level than
basketball at the level that you and I play when
we go down and play pick up, or you might
have played at the high school level or the collegiate level,
(01:26):
or the youth level or whatever the the h the
adult level, lots of things are different. The spacing is
way different because the skill is way better. Guys cover
so much more ground. But you know what, what doesn't
change When guys can't play, when they can't beat you,
when they're not as good as you, they try and
(01:46):
start a fight. That's what happens, whether it's trying to
get mentally under your skin or trying to somehow even
up or make you scared about driving to the basket.
There are dudes that come out the bench with one
sole purpose. And Dwayne Deadman was that guy last night.
And the reason he was that guy is, um, it's
(02:06):
not Larry the cable guy. Who's the guy Ramos who
walks around with the drink in his hand and m
comedian and he says, you can't fix stupid? Who who is?
Who is you? Can't fix stupid guy. Wow, that's a
good question, Doug. You know, I answer a good question
we don't know the answer to because you can't fix
(02:28):
her stupid. And that's Ron White, right, Ron? Why does
the train wreck? He he always he has a cigar
and he has the drink and he says, you can't
fix stupid, But you can't. In sports, you can't fix old.
I mean some people will say, well, bother time undefeated.
But what happens when you get older. You have a
(02:49):
tendency to get wiser and get smarter. In basketball, usually
shoot better, you see things more clearly, your movement is.
It's like if you've ever you are set with an
old guy. Okay, a lot of old guys that the
other type of guys like you know, they have these
philosophical God gave you two years and one mouth, listen
(03:10):
more than you talk, and so when then they talk,
they say things in more concise fashion. It's almost like
they know their time on earth might be limited, so
they're gonna say less but say more. It's like the
old guy when he moves, he might not move as crisply,
but he gets where he wants to get, Like you
(03:31):
and you increase your level of intelligence and you're wherewithal.
But what you can't fix is the fact that you
can't move. You just can't. Once you you lose that step,
you don't get it back. And when you collectively, like
I said this about Mono Genoble, and I will go
(03:52):
to my grave telling you that I think Mono Genoble
has had a greater impact on European basketball based upon
his overall career than Dirk n Novitski. The most impactful
guy has been Monta Genoblic. He won two European championships.
He won Argentina's gold medal. Think about that, a gold
(04:13):
medal for Argentina. Go back and look historically, and I
know there was a good group of great Argentinians who
played on that gold medal winning team. I believe they
also won the world championships as well. On our soil.
You look historically like they were never They weren't even
competitive in South America as well. They weren't the best
(04:33):
team in South America, let alone in the America's how
but in the world they win the gold medal. And
of course he's been a huge part of several championship
teams with San Antonio Spurs. He was shooting fifteen cent
coming to last night's game, and last night's game wasn't great.
And the reason is he can't move anymore. He's washed.
(04:54):
It's over, it's done. You can't fix stupid in life.
You can't fix old in sports. What what's that? Vince
Lombardi said, He said that fatigue makes cowards of us. All.
That's true. Age makes mortals of us. All makes mortals
(05:14):
of us. All. Age will make you get hurt more quickly.
It's harder to recover. But more than anything, it kills
your athletic ability. Right, it just does. And different positions
are different terms of athletism. Do the Spurs have other problems? Yeah,
they went invested all that money in LaMarcus Aldridge and
(05:37):
one free agency for the first time ever. Right, they
went out one free agency in the past when they
had one in free agency. It's like when Michael Finley
was bought out by the Dallas Mavericks. They got Finley
on the cheap, but they legitimately competed for LaMarcus Aldridge
a prize free agent and got him. But LaMarcus aldridg
(05:57):
is soft. He's more of an offensive player. Than d
intensive player, and even though he's technically big enough to
move over to center, he can't move to play center.
He's not really needed at power forward, and when being
guarded by mighty mites last night, could do nothing like
that's a problem. But the biggest problem is you can't
fix old. You can't do it. Stuck got lip show
(06:21):
Fox Sports Radio eight seven, seven nine nine one Fox ramas.
Did you stay up and watch the game or docu?
Did not stay up? It wasn't really that late, But
it's so much different than when you're in the West
Coast and East coast. Unfortunately, I was at the Guardians
of the Galaxy movie premier things, so I didn't see it.
Wait what wait? How are you? How old am I
in my forties? Did you take your kids? Uh? No,
(06:43):
just my wife? Only two people could go um and
Guardian is is it? Please tell me it's good because
it looks it looks like something I would watch with
my kids. Uh. I would say, it's a little more
adult kids, a little little kids. So that's who you are.
You're an adult kids. That's okay. As long as you
know who you are, You're like, yes, music ahead, you
(07:04):
had your hand up. I'm just funny that I just
I cannot believe that I just heard that into my
ear that he went and see it. I didn't. I
went to see Guardians at the Galaxy. I like how
he starts it with unfortunately unfortunately when he knows that
it's not unfortunate. He was very excited to go see it,
which is fine. But I'm just curious, John, what was
unfortunate about it? Well, the question was about a basketball game,
(07:27):
and I didn't want to displease Doug by saying that
I did not watch. Listen you can you know, I
just don't like you know. Here's the thing I tell
people all the time. I don't lie, like I will
say things that you will be offended by that will
I can't believe you said that. Well, the good thing
is I'm not lying about I just say what I
think right. And the reason is the good thing is
if you don't lie, you don't have to remember what
you told somebody and go, damn what I tell him?
(07:50):
I can't remember what I told him. Where do you
think I was last night? Right? That's what you There's
all these different It's like when somebody texts you and
you have no idea who they are, and you you
do to who dis? Right? Who dis? Because you don't
want to act like you you know who it is.
You don't want to you know what a lines. So
if somebody says, do you know who this is? Like,
I have no idea who this is? How do I
(08:12):
know you? What I know you from Dan Buyer? You're
getting ready wedding plans. Apparently there's some sort of issue
with the catering. No, there's no issue. I just I
was just telling you what I did this morning. That
very exciting. Tell me about the very exciting telling me
about you. Did you watch the Rockets Spurs game? I
had it on in the second half, so it wasn't
like the game was over. It was over the the
(08:35):
the Houston Rockets scored sixty nine sixty nine points in
the first half. They were up sixty nine too, was
it thirty nine? You're up thirty a half? That game
is over? Like you have to be like me. You
have to be a ball guy to really really watch it,
So I I respect to understand it. Okay, So here's
my question to you. What was the reason what was
(08:55):
the biggest reason for the blowout? Um? I just that
the Rockets were on fire from outside and the Spurs
just from three point range, and many of those misses
were in the second half, right, so they hit it.
But E's like, well, they beat him because they shot
the ball really well. Is that is that a fair
kind of uh average analysis. You just watch for a
(09:19):
little bit. But here's what here's what people should know.
The reason they made all those threes is a lot
of them were wide open. And the reason they were
wide open was because the Houston Rockets were going right
by the San Antonio Spurs. And the reason they were
going right by the San Antono, well, you go right
by somebody, somebody has to help. They help you kick out.
That's how you get it open. Three. The reason they
(09:40):
were going right by the San Antonio Spurs dan Byer,
was because they were um faster and maybe the Spurs
were a bit slow. Lest you can't fix old. Can't
fix old. That's it. That's it. In a nutshell, It's like, look,
Payton Manning is paymenting to me payments. Should go down
as the greatest quarterback ever with a bad arm like
(10:03):
that's who he was. He never had a good arm,
but he he got to the point where they couldn't
play him in Denver. Like the the story is going
to be forever that Peyton Manning won his last game,
much like John Elway riding off in the sunset. But
the truth is they had to. He was hurt, he
was tired, he was hurt. He wasn't injured. He was bad.
(10:26):
He had nine touchdown seventeen interceptions, and they found a
way to kind of putter to the end. And even
in the Super Bowl he didn't throw many, if any
good balls at all in the Super Bowl. He was
washed up. Why because as a quarterback, when your arm goes,
you're done. Much like pictures, when it goes, it goes,
(10:46):
it's over. Tom Glavin was that way um in football,
for outside of quarterback, it's when you can't run, you
can't play. Do you guys remember when the Ravens won
the Super Bowl? Remember the forty Niners come back in
the second half and the four Diner. The reason the
four Diners came back was they finally figured out, hey,
why don't we just go to whoever Ray Lewis is
(11:08):
supposed to be covering because he can't run anymore. It
was there used to be game plans designed going away
from Ray Lewis at the end of his career. Remember
he was taking what was the it was the phony supplement,
that was Sprayer Antler Spray right like he was doing
whatever it took to try and get him to the
finish line coming back from a torn Uh try a
(11:30):
tricept I think tricept muscle. But the truth was, like
he couldn't run anymore, so you went right at him.
And that's what happened last night. Like those guys couldn't
contain the ball. They just couldn't. LaMarcus Alters can't get
Anyboddy pau Gasol, can't guard Anyboddy Tony Parker, you know, couldn't.
(11:51):
You couldn't really hide him defensively, Danny Green couldn't make
a shot. And he's good, but like what he's best
at doing defensively is bastidally shutting down the old school shooter,
just like tracking a guy. And you can't do that
against Houston because that's not the style of play, the
style of players. Give it to James Harden. Come off
a ball screen wherever the help comes, you kick out.
(12:13):
They couldn't stop the ball. And if you can't guard
the ball, you can't stop the rockets. And if you're
too old, you can't guard the ball. And I can't
fix old. I can't fix old. Uh, Dan, did you
get all the uh the rehearsal dinner stuff worked out? Like?
Are you guys? I was? You know what you know?
(12:33):
Give a band next time. I won't. I won't let
you into my life, Doug. You know, if it's such
a problem with you, just the problem. I'm just I'm
I'm concerned. I don't want things to go. This is
obviously your I heard I heard your show. I heard
your show on Sunday when you had your when you
had your Lisa came on. It was great, very sweet.
She's super excited. Why I have no idea, but now
(12:57):
you're a bad guy. But I just don't I I like,
I'm like, she's really really excited. Yeah, really excited. But
you guys are like adults, Like I don't understand what
really changes when you're adults. Well, Lisa is also a
well versed in the radio biz, so she knows that
you when you come on, you want to have some energy,
you know, you want to be excited. No, no, that
was not fake energy. She's super excited of getting married
to you, and I kind of think it should be
(13:18):
the other way around. Oh, I'm very excited, not to
her level of excitement, and it's kind of a bit
of a mismatch. I just I'm just gonna tell you, like,
you're you're married up, you're out kicking your coverage, You're
you're accomplishing the goal of any warm blooded American man.
But but her level of excitement was that was peak.
It was. It was when we get some Doug. You know,
(13:39):
it's like when you arrive on the super Bowl location
at super Bowl Week, when you get there, Like, that's
what it was. It was like the plane landed on
Sunday and all of a sudden, now she realizes she's
less than a weekend, and it was Yeah, it's game time.
It's time to play the biggest game of your life. Yeah,
just like when you guys touched down in the n
C Double A Tournament, you know, like all those other
(13:59):
games in the regular season, but when you went to
your first and second round sites. Oh, it's game time.
That's what she was all about. Gotta gotta crank it up.
She was cranked up. She was fired up, as she
should be. This weekend marying to catch like you, that's it.
Nick Saban is a catch. Uh. Nick Saban got paid today.
So does that mean that Nick Saban gets paid the
athletes should get paid. I'll tell you why. That is
(14:21):
a non sequitur. Next bat Boy used to be The
Jam d G Show rolls on eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox. Nick Saban got paid again today and
people are gonna freak out. He's gonna get a four
million dollars signing bonus to make six point seven five
million dollars in salary this year, gets another four hundred
(14:42):
thousand dollars for completing the season. We're just making it
through the season. Why don't you just like I just
why don't just put that in the contract? Listen, He's
gotta make it through the season and get the four
of those notes, bringing is total comp package to eleven
point one to five million. Has completion bonuses is in
each year of the contract, culminating with a three point
(15:03):
six million dollar payout after the two thousand twenty one
season for going back down to four hundred per year
in subsequent season. So he's getting paid kind of upfront
instead of a backload of deal. Quote Terry and I
carries his wife and I are please and happy to
agree to the contract extension UH to the University of
Alabama has offered us, ensuring our time here in Tuscaloos
(15:24):
will continue for many more years. This has become our home.
We're looking forward to finishing our career at Alabama. I
want to thank Stewart Bell and Athletic Director Gregg Byrne,
our athletic administration, football staff, and the entire university community
community for all their support which has been instrumental in
the success of our organization. Saban is the second highest
(15:46):
paid coach annually in camp, in comparison to Jim Harbaugh,
who got his salary increased to nine million dollars a
year last October. I think some of the stuff is
actually really really interesting. Um. He also got his defense
to Jeremy Pruett got a hundred thousand dollar raises co
defensive Coordinata outside linebackers coach tash Lapoy, who just got there,
(16:07):
got a raised from five hundred fifty to nine and
fifty dollars, and his strength coach got ten thousand dollar
raised to five thirty five thousand dollars. UM. So there's
a bunch of different things. I like the inner workings,
the the fine print, the fine print of the coaches contracts.
(16:30):
Like I don't know if you guys know this, but
Jim Harbaugh's deal is really five million dollars a year,
and then there's two nine million to two million dollar
life insurance policies which are really money makers, and the
school is just paying the premium. Like this is one
of those deals to where when you make a certain
amount of money, uh, life insurance, people will come to
(16:52):
you and they're like, it's technically life insurance, but it's
also a financial growth vehicle, and that's it's not really
nine million dollars they're paying him. They're paying him at
the value of it potentially is nine million dollars and
eventually he'll get that money out of it. But it's
a really really smart way of of making a huge
amount of money, but as an kind of an investment
(17:13):
for you. Here's the thing about Saban, though I understand
that there are many of you who operate in a
world to which you've been told by many people in
my position that because the college coaches make money and
this is an obscene amount of money, let's just be honest.
It's in Tuscaloose, Alabama, which is a much nicer town
(17:36):
than you would think. And his deal is much better
than even this reads. Two years ago, the University of
Alabama bought back his house for like two million dollars
and then he pays like rent, like a dollar a
year in rent, So he's basically living there scott free,
(17:56):
just piling away cash. He's making eleven million dollars this year.
He's got this ridiculous lake house, and he's setting himself
up to this is his last job ever, and this
is the price for holding on to in our lifetime.
(18:16):
Nick Saban is the best college football coach that we've seen. Right,
He's had the most consistent run of success in college
football from the moment he got to l s U
and really what he did at Michigan State. He hadn't
turned the corner yet fully at Michigan State, but the
guy has been incredible and winning multiple national titles at
Alabama in addition to winning a national title at l
(18:37):
s U. Things that hadn't been done before, hadn't been
done the last fortift years. Crazy. So I understand that
your thought is always that there should be a trickle
down to the players, and there is there is in
the state of Alabama, or outside of Alabama, in Atlanta,
(18:59):
in places to where there is a fervent SEC alumni base.
When you're done playing football, the strongest thing you can
put on your resume to apply for a job at
Striker Right Medical Sales is football University of Alabama. It
just is. Everything they do at Alabama is built around
(19:22):
not just the football program, but the Nicktator, Nick Saban.
How they raise money because of Nick Saban, How they
sell season tickets because of Nick Saban. They've had three
different offensive coordinators they've had over the last five years.
They've had in fact, they had to last year in
the middle of the season. They've had three different quarterbacks,
(19:42):
three different styles, two of which could barely complete a
forward pass. Over the past three years played a national
championship game. The one thing that's been consistent has been
Nick Saban. Their TV rights packaged locally, nationally, their radio rights.
Every thing they do is that, hey, you know what,
(20:02):
trust me, we have saved. How do you think they
get recruits Saban? It's not just that he's an indefatigable recruiter.
It's that his name sells. Saban's gonna get you the pros.
You know, it's the same reason they get assistant coaches.
They go there because Saban, can you make your life? Hell? Yes,
(20:24):
can he undress you on the sideline? Absolutely? When things
go wrong? Are you to blame her he to blame?
Or is he to blame? You're to blame? But you
got Nick Saban pick up the phone for you. It's
worth it. And while this is an obscene amount of money, Like, look,
I'll gallant you a little secret on agents. Agents are
(20:45):
like college football coaches. They really are. They really are.
Not all college football coaches are are good. Many of
them are in fact overpaid. They just it's the you know,
the Peter principle is he doesn't know what the Peter
principal was. Uh, if you went to Peter, if you
went to business school, you know the story that the
(21:06):
Peter principal is. Basically when you're continually elevated because your
time and a company or success at a position, but
you're elevated above uh, your level, it's basically above your
level of competency. Like somebody's a great salesman keeps climbing up,
climbing up. You makeing the sales manager. He's a good
(21:27):
sales manager. You're makeing the CFO, and you're like, whoa,
he can't be the CFO. Why Peter Principal elevated but
above the level of his competency. There's lots of college
football coaches that were really good line coaches, became really
good coordinators, were in the right spot at the right school.
They get elevated. They get elevated to becoming head coach. Like, damn,
that guy is terrible head coach? Why Peter Principal. There's
(21:50):
lots of agents that agents. Generally in my profession, I
pay him agent ten percent off the top. That's a
lot of money. And like some agents, they just do
the deal and they're done. I could. I feel like
I have a pretty good feel. I think I have
the guy who's the Sabin of sports media agents where
(22:10):
everybody with everybody Alabama feels that way. I guarantee the
assistant coaches feel that way, the players feel that way.
And while you may think there's a trickle down, it's
a non sequitur. Players and coaches are different. A coach
works twenty years sometimes just to get that first head
coaching job, and then they continue to climb and they
(22:31):
are fireball players are not and players ability to make
money on the first job after college. It's based upon
their success in college. That's no different from football players
as it is for an engineering student or a marketing
students don't make the nonsecuitar of comparing salaries for a
college football coach and the lack of quote unquote salary
(22:53):
for a college athlete. Upcoming next, Benjamin Watson's gonna join us.
He's with the ravens now right with the Saints. I
want to ask him about the Saints and why why
they just they can't stop anybody like? Is it the
fault of the style of the offense? Is there a
(23:13):
way to why hasn't that work? He's also been in
New England. I want to get his take on New
England's draft, which they trade away picks for guys that
are ready made products. That tell us that Brady is
gonna walk away in a year or two. And he's
the author of a new book talks about fatherhood while
being an NFL player. He's got five kids. Is he
living a shoe? A lot of kids? Kids? We'll, we'll,
(23:38):
we'll catch up with Benjamin Watson of the Baltimore Ravens
Doug ot Lin Show rolls on Fox Sports Radio. Never
a bad time for low outcasts, That's what I say. Also,
never a bad time to catch up with Benjamin Watson.
Play for the Pats, play for the Browns, play for
the Saints. Uh ask a couple of years for for
(24:01):
a couple of years, right, and they couldn't stop anybody.
They couldn't they couldn't catch a cold. Um. And now
it is with the Baltimore Ravens and is now an
author as well as he's written a book, The Nude
Dad's Playbook and Beat Me to It. This is great.
He's got five kids and uh great cover picture as well.
You can pick it up at Amazon dot com. It's
also in h soft soft cover, which for those of
(24:23):
us who like to save money, it's a little bit
a little bit easier on the wall. Benjamin Watson, the
Baltimore Ravens joins us on the Doug Gotlip Show. How
are you good man? Okay, so you you wrote a
book about being a dad while playing in the NFL,
and there are topics in here. I read most of
it about sex. Uh, like, did you have to clear
(24:44):
with your wife, like hey, baby, I'm write in this
book and I'm gonna talk about our most in our
most intimate details. And even when you don't mention you
know her name, like you know, you know what people
are going all right, So how how how do you
how do you have that conversation? Well, the thing is
she was sitting right next to me, and she was
really the one giving me the advice about what to
(25:05):
tell because she wants these women to have the support
that they deserve from their husbands and the fathers of
the children that don't know what the heck to do
and how to navigate these things. So she was she
was actually the one that inspired me to write the book.
You've been telling me for five years, you need to
write a handbook from men so that they not only
are in power when it comes to father and so
they only have information, but so that they can support, uh,
(25:27):
the women who are carrying their child and helping them
through this whole process called pregnancy. It's it's it's great.
It's honestly, it's it's really good. I mean, like you know,
like we all and and there's lots of guys who
didn't grow up with the dad. I was fortunate to
have one, but my dad was never kind of the
touchy feeling wasn't really it was from the generation that
they weren't really involved in the child rearing, right. Like
my my son asked me all the time, like what
(25:48):
did your dad like play one on one with you
and play Like, No, my dad didn't do all that,
Like why do you do it? Like well, because I
don't know. I just that's how I want to raise them.
So what is like give Okay? So I actually I
got a buddy in my and his wife is pregnant
with twins. Um, and he he's asked me a but like,
what should I be ready for if your wife is
pregnant right now? What's the what are a couple of
(26:11):
the things that they can pick up this book? And um,
they can they can take from it? Yeah, and even
give up a good point because you know, men for
the most part, you know, I'm in the locker room
with eighty guys every year for the last thirteen years.
So there's been a number of guys who have had
fathers demonstrate things to them. A lot of guys have
not had fathers in their lives. Some of them have
(26:31):
children already and they just want to do things differently.
So you know, there's all these questions that come up.
And you know, when she's pregnant and you don't know
what a birth plan is, you don't know what to
expect on the from the OBI appointment where you're gonna
hear the heartbeat for the first time, or when do
you even hear the heartbeat? Or do I have to
buy a thousand diapers or is it gonna make or
break in new or can I go you know, a
(26:52):
package at a time. You know, well, what about you know,
people coming over after the baby's here, and should everybody
just be come over? Should I keep certain people out?
What about the ways to have birth? You know, there's
an epidural, there's a natural birth, there's a water birth,
there's a home birth. Please don't tell me your natural
birth guy, right, like my my sister, my sisterly we've
(27:13):
done well, she's done yeah, stop stop what we've done
and we've done right exactly. But but but all five well,
all four ways. So we've had the epidural with the
first one in the hospital. We've had the epidural that
didn't work in the hospital. We've had a natural birth
in a tub in a hospital birthday center. We've had
(27:35):
a natural birth at home in a tub, and the
last two I was the one to help pull the
baby out of the birth canal. And so every different
had all right. So we've only had we had I
had twins and then my son. They've all been seen. Uh.
And my my sister said, like I was. I asked
(27:58):
her after she had her first she's had three, and
she I said that did you have do you have drugs?
You have epidural? And She's like, would you would you
have a root canal without without medication? I was like no.
She's like, well then why would you Why would you
possibly have a baby without an epidural? So questions though,
because when it comes to, you know, the recovery afterwards,
(28:18):
a lot of times it's quicker for the mother when
they don't have an eadural um and so that this
pros and consent. So literally my whole point in the
book and this in that part of the book, the
technical part of the book is it is having guys
think about these issues are gonna that are gonna come up, um,
and how do you make a plan to address them.
We don't even talk about some of these things sometimes
(28:39):
next to you know, you're in the birth and room,
you're in the labor room, and and everything is going
on a mile an hour. And so part of the
book is is UH is equipping guys when it comes to,
you know, these technical terms that they're gonna hear. And
the other part, it's really the Brawley is encouraging men
that they have what it takes that even though society
may tell them that you know what, you're a dad,
(29:00):
you don't know what's going on. You are very important.
Even if you have kids, are important, and if the
kid is don't even hear yet, you're important in creating
the nest that this child is going to come into
so that they can be turned into successful young men
and women. Um, and just empowering fathers from that point
of view. See, I love this is all great stuff.
It's the the New Dad's Playbook. Benjamin Watson of the
(29:22):
Baltimore Ravens tight in Baltimore Ravens joining us Doug Gottlieb
show here on Fox Sports Treating. I love it, and
I also love that there are a couple of things
you didn't cover, like the fact I don't know if
you ever heard this, the difference in the first kid,
second kid, third kid. Right, first kid is don't touch that,
you'll hurt yourself. The second, second one is you're sitting
in your chair like, hey, don't touch that, you might
hurt yourself. The third one is watch this, he's gonna
(29:43):
hurt himself. Right. So I don't know what you get
to win. Four or five. We have five kids, and
I swear like, when the fifth child follows down, you know, well,
she's my baby girl, so I care about her. But
let's go to the fourth one. That's the board that's
actually on the cover of the book. He follows down,
it's like, whatever, he'll be okay. But one thing I
do talk about in the book is how do you
add uh kids to the mix when you already have children,
(30:06):
because as we know, they're sibling rivalry, there's all those things.
So I do kind of touch on that a little bit.
When you want to expand your team, so to speak,
you know, you have a team, you have five, you
have you're good dude as you guys, you guys done,
you guys, you guys done, or you're going for the
for for for five boys? We we are we are
done for now. We have three girls. We have three
girls and two boys, and and we're we are definitely
(30:29):
in a holding pattern, I would say, like a very
very strong holding pattern. Everything still works, like the funding
still works, so I guess I could still possibly score,
but I'm not really trying to score right now. Uh,
if you know what I mean. We're just you know,
my wife was was Our oldest is only eight, and
so we have eight down to one. And so literally
(30:51):
we have four kids in four and a half years.
My wife was either pregnant, nursing, or both simultaneously for
about five and a half years, and so we're enjoying
this kind of not having the nursing and the you know,
we just have one in diapers now, So we're good.
All right. I got I got a couple of quick
football questions for you. Um, weird year for the Ravens
last year, right, I mean, it's just weird. Um, Steve
(31:13):
Smith's last year. Uh, Joe Flacco coming off the knee. Um,
you have you know, the defense. There's some some age
that got exposed on defense. How far away are the
Ravens to being with the Ravens we've always known them
to be well, I think this draft class answers a
lot of the questions. And I'm not one to put
a lot on drafted players, you know, college players. You
(31:36):
have to see how the transition is going to go.
But you see a lot of instances early in the draft.
We talked about corners and linebackers, rush players, um that
they're trying to definitely uh identify with with the identity
that the Ravens have always had being a player that
has been on other teams are coming here last year.
I wasn't able to play at tom My Achilles last year,
(31:56):
but I was able to observe and the Ravens have
always been, like you said, the team of a tough defense.
And so one thing I know about this league is that, well,
if there may seem like there's large gaps, when you
have an organization that has stability from the top down
from the head coach to the GM, that gives you
a chance to be successful in the league, that gives
you an opportunity, there are some teams that you don't
(32:16):
even have a chance because there's too much turmoil. And
so moving forward, Um, you know, we obviously had to
get a little bit younger in some positions, but also
there are positions. You know you mentioned Suns then although
he may be getting old and older, as they said,
the guy can still get it done. And so I
think that this team UH functions best in the past
(32:37):
and in the present when the defense is strong, and
we had great defensive play last year, except for a
couple of games here and there. Offensively, we need to
be more consistent. You mentioned your Achilles tenant tiered uh
t sizzle. He tore us Achilles tendant, didn't he? I
think I think before the tendan uh two years ago. Okay,
So so this it used to be. It used to
(32:58):
be when you're in your thirties, you tell your Achilles
tendant like that used to be a career ender. What
I mean, what are your own personal expectations for yourself
this year? I mean, like look and I look, I'm
a I'm a Charger fan. Antonio Gates, he raised a
pregnant woman, came in third. I mean, he he but
he still gets open tight ends. Jason Witten looks horrible
(33:18):
when he's running by himself, but he still finds a
way to get open. It's like it's like the only
position outside of quarterback that you can lose your speed
in the NFL and still be really effective. So what
are your realistic expectations this year coming off that Achilles, Well,
my expectations are high, Doug. I, Um, my rehip has
gone well. I haven't had many hiccups. Um. Yes, I'm
(33:39):
I'm over thirty five, which is weird to say. Um,
but I'm I'm at a place where the doctors have
said I'm here as as well as they thought I would.
I'm just in a place where I just need to
get a little bit stronger. But I am I'm running,
I'm running routes. I'm I'm strong. Uh. The calf muscle
takes forever to to come back to full strength and
(34:00):
so that's just the last little bit. Um. But by
the time it's it's time to compete, I'll be ready
to compete on percent and my actually taking other sames
on a guy here. I want to contribute to this
team winning. Um. That's why I came here and so
unfortunately I wasn't able to do it last year. But
my goal this year is to is to do that anymore. Well,
We'll be rooting for you as well as written for
the sale of this book. I mean it's pretty amazing, right,
(34:21):
Like you're thirty five, thirty six now, and you've got
guys in this draft class that weren't alive when the
Baltimore Ravens came to came into existence, right think, Yeah,
like they were like nineties six was the first year
which they were they were the Baltimore Ravens. That's that's
uh to me. To me, Baltimore still seems like common
(34:41):
new team, you know. But but yeah, you're right to
those guys. So but yeah, thank you, thank you. And
and New Dad's Playbook New dads Playbook dot com uh
is where you can find everything out about the poke
and as you mentioned, it took out goal uh in
all retail outlets. Yeah. And if that's your son, that's
a cute little kid. You obviously married up man, because
that's that's a good looking boy right there. Anyway, I
(35:03):
thank God every day from the now. You take God
for football. She went to married. You've not for football,
you know, and then then foot football gave your wife.
And you do you think you have a good brain too.
You're a smart guy too. But though I will say
though that we met because of in part because of football,
because she was playing softball at University of Georgia and
we met in Fellowship of Christiannapolis. And if I had
(35:25):
the transferred and she hadn't played sports, and you're right,
we wouldn't have met. Some sports. It's a huge part
of our life. Definitely. Hey man, I really appreciate catching
up with you. Will do so again in the summer
and not only tracked this book sales, but also talk
to more football. Thanks so much, so good. Thanks Benjamin
Watson joining us. I gotta, I gotta do it, I
gotta do it right. Coming to America the Benjamin Watson
(35:47):
Thank you, Benjamin A movie reference that's too old for
my twenty eight year old producer. He doesn't come coming
to America. You've seen coming to America. Of course I
have Hi the soup right, the soup Hi, the soup um.
(36:08):
Daron Conley is not going to be punished by the
NFL unless something happens that most people don't foresee happening.
Is the NFL being hypocritical? Find on X sure we'll
sell out? Uh? Doug got lip show? Brought you by
a true car. When you're ready for a new or
used cars, a true car to enjoy a more confident
car buying experience, but a troop car dot Com, Doug
(36:31):
got liepshow rolls on fs are and of course on
the I Heart app and Serious XM Channel three. Appears
that garyon Conley is not going to be subject to
discipline by the NFL core new Pro football Talk dot
Com unless he's charged with a felony doesn't appear to
be headed in that direction. UM League spokesman Brian McCarthy
(36:54):
confirmed that this position to Pro Football Talk via email
on Tuesday. He is Gary Conley, course is the former
Ohio State player who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders.
And of course many people going, why have the Raiders
done this? I think the answer is pretty easy when
it comes to REGI, Reggie Mackenzie said, is their general manager.
(37:14):
I don't want to get into all the details abou
who we talked to, but the bottom line is we've
done miles and miles of research and make sure we're
comfortable with our decision. Connley reportedly met with Cleveland police Monday,
and his lawyer has since admitted that Conley and his
twenty three year old accuser engaged in a consensual sexual event.
(37:35):
It's like consensual sexual event, so not no that uh yeah,
sort of like we don't all talk about we sort
of kind of And I guess the question becomes, is
this inconsistent from the NFL, Like Terrell Prior was suspending
for four games for like the stuff he did in college,
(37:57):
which was, you know, selling a goal the medallion right
that he shouldn't have, selling football pans that he shouldn't do,
taking money that he shouldn't do. That was a terrible
precedent set by the NFL. But just because you made
one previous bad decision doesn't mean you should double down
on it. I mean, it's it's a really hard path
(38:18):
for the NFL to walk, but it's one to which
in the future you'd have to advise them, and this
is something they've done until the actual findings come out.
This is the hard thing with the Great Cardie thing,
because even though he was initially found guilty, that became
thrown out, and then when it went back to trial,
she didn't show up, she took a payout, and then
he got suspended for ten games that got reduced. It's
(38:39):
really hard, but I kind of think that this is
the right path for the NFL. If if she made
it up, which is what basically everyone is saying without
saying that there was some sort of dispute and because
of it she called rape in there doesn't appear to
(38:59):
be in a rape that was committed. The Cleveland Browns
have their next quarterback question Mark question Mark that's next
to the Doug Gotlip Show, Boom, Dug Gottlieb Show, Fox
Sports Radio Live and Direct in the City of Angels.
With True Car, you can find out what other people
in your area paid for the same car you're looking
(39:20):
for and on average, save over three thousand off M
S r P. Where you looking for a new or
used carve as a True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. Do do Do Do Do do um.
This is kind of interesting, kind of interesting. I saw
this from Jason lock Camphora and there's some sound to
(39:40):
go along with it from Hugh Jackson. And it's in regards.
It's in regards to uh Deshaun Kaiser, who is the
the newest quarterback to try and erase the curse of
the quarterbacks with the Cleveland Browns, and it it doesn't
speak well about his leadership and just it's not that
(40:03):
great about his leadership. So the basics of it are,
if you remember before the NFL Draft and Jason lackim
four is going to join us, isn't he? Whence he
joined us? Ryan, he will be on the program in
the final hour five thirty Eastern time, so five thirty
cent time. That's two thirty specific time, specific time. There
(40:26):
you go. Um, anyway, I saw this is really interesting.
It's in his NFL draft notes, and uh it said
this that when you brought guys in from Notre Dame
and you asked them about Kaiser, no one was really excited.
It wasn't like he's the man, that's my guy. You
(40:47):
ask a Clemson kid about Deshaun Watson is like, that's
our dog, he's our leader. We do anything for that.
You ask, um, we do anything for that guy. You
asked the North Carolina kid about Trabinsky, It was the same,
but with Kaiser is like, oh, he's a cool guy.
That's gonna be challenging situation for for him going to
Cleveland having to be the savior. Brian Kelly's uh excuse me, um,
(41:12):
who wasn't one executive said the quarterback has to be clean,
especially when you're taking him that high. He can't be
a pain in the ask. It isn't just what Brian
Kelly said about him. That's not really it. It's that
he wasn't really a team leader. Phil Simms used to
be the number one guy at CBS. Now he's just
he's in studio analyst at CBS. Inside the NFL, he
(41:33):
has an expression where he says, well, you know, he's
a quarterback. And to anybody who doesn't know Phil and
doesn't understand the expression or kind of get what he's saying,
like what does that mean? And he told he's told
me that several times about different guys. He was telling
me that about last year about Dak Prescott. He's like, well,
you know, you meet Dak Prescott, he's a quarterback or
(41:55):
what does that mean? He's a quarterback means he just
has a presence, a leadership of I don't know who
that guy is, but I want to like him and
I want to follow it. One of the great things
about this business is and I think we're going to
continue it here at Fox Sports Radio, because you guys
do a great job at the Super Bowl. We've been
I've been able to do these Super Bowl shows the
last five years going out and I've done this now
(42:18):
for fifteen years, and Super Bowl specifically, you get some
you get face to face with a lot of these quarterbacks.
I've met and had had radio and drinks with Tony Romo.
I've met and had drinks and had radio with Aaron Rodgers,
radio with Matt Ryan, with Drew Brees, and like to
(42:39):
a man, they come in and you're just like, damn,
I are we best friends? Right? Like, there's a different
way in which they communicate. There's a different kind of
aura about them. It's it's leadership is just kind of
a like leadership is a lot like the definition of
portna you free right, you know when you see it
(43:02):
can't there's no there's no definitive to it. Now. The
one thing I will point about out about Kaiser and
all of this is stuff that you've heard, is that
he's not really the leaders, just kind of one of
the guys, a little bit pet and a little bit immature,
and a lot of that should freak people out in Cleveland.
On the other hand, they got him as the second
(43:22):
round pick, and having this feedback out there is a
really really good thing. It is. I mean, look, the
same feedback was out there about Geno Smith. Remember then,
Nolan Noraki has gotten killed for his scattered report of
Geno Smith, his scatter report of Cam Newton. And oh yeah,
by the way, if you read it, it's dead to
(43:44):
rights accurate. Pull it up rate. It couldn't be more accurate.
But like, I actually kind of think that it's a
good thing for Dushun that it's out there. One it
shows it would have been really hard for him to
go back to Notre Dame because you don't just become
a leader in your third year starting quarterback. Just that
(44:05):
ship is kind of sale. But he also knows the
locker room that he's walking into. Uh, this is kind
of a weird conversation that I didn't prep Dan Buyer for.
So Dan was hosting this time co hosting this time
slot with with Jonas knocks right, they were costing this
(44:26):
time this time slot in my stead. Um, and I
just like Dan, you knew at some point, you guys
knew I was coming to do before I would hope
before everybody else knew that I was coming to do
this time slot. Did you have a preconceived notion for
who I was or what type of person. I was, Um,
(44:47):
you don't know this stuck, But we actually met about
thirteen years ago. No, I really don't know that. I
don't know if I should be and and what do
you think? I I told everybody here, I said I
was working in Madison, Wisconsin at the time, and in
a eliot, and I said, Doug was working And this
isn't gonna help your story any but I said, Doug
was working the Great Outdoor Games. The old Lumberjack competition
(45:10):
was Lumberjack. I did the I did the dog frisbee
dog catch, sure, but I said we were the We
were the ESPN radio affiliate broadcasting live from the site.
And I said, Doug came up to us and approached us.
And so I said, in my only interaction with Doug,
he approached us and was very friendly. And I said,
there are probably national media that would not do that
(45:32):
to a local affiliate. Um, we didn't, you know. We
were just doing our two hour show there. And so
so I had an idea, but I just used it. Um,
I know this may destroy everything that you were planning
on doing. That was my That was my um, that
was my impression. And and so I said, I have
I have you know, nothing but good things to say,
because I don't know how many national media people would
(45:53):
want to, you know, come up to the local affiliates,
because sometimes it's a few and far between. Okay, well
that's good. I just you know, it's interesting because you
don't know what you don't know the room in which
you're walking into. That's the only thing I knew about
you were those two minutes. So they were That was
a good two minutes, That's what she said. How music?
(46:14):
What did what did you hear about Gotli before Gotli
became part of your life? I heard that he has
been in the game for a while and that he's
had one producer for a long time who knows how
to finish his sentences, and at times he can be
difficult to work with. M I would say, that's accurate.
Difficult one way though, that's just such a loaded heard.
(46:37):
It's just such a loaded right, It's just such a
loaded deal to go like, he can be difficult to
work with. I can be difficult, but just because sometimes
I can be out of Like today, for example, my
cell was dying. I was going into workout that I
was late to go get over to Cowherd because there
was terrible traffic chakra and but we were kind of
lockstep into you kind of know what we want to
(46:59):
talk about? You is it? Because like I actually think
this is a good thing for Deshaun Kaiser. Michael gets
a bad thing to not be a leader. And it's
really hard to make somebody a leader who's not a leader.
And most of those guys who are dudes, And when
I say dudes, I mean quarterbacks, lead dogs, Alpha's, Hey, fellas,
we're gonna you know, the Matt Hasselbeck. We're gonna get
(47:21):
the ball and we're gonna go score. And even if
you don't, everybody knows that you meant it. It's really
really hard to try and be one of those guys
when you're not one of those guys. But the the
only thing you can really ever ask for in this
world is honest feedback, right, Like every guy wants honest feedback.
(47:42):
You you finish with a girl, right you? That was
it for you? Like you don't really want her to
say if it wasn't good, But if it wasn't good,
wouldn't you kind of really want to know? Right? You
know that movie you did about midway through that didn't
really work for me. It's kind of faking. Yeah, it's
just kind of right, like you would kind of want
to know, like you want to know, like when you
(48:04):
go when you go into up. I had a meeting
with the the sales people up on the fourth floor,
fifth floor. What is what floor was that fourth floor?
It's amazing up there. You walk up, everything's white, everything's lit.
You can see for miles. You can see the San
Gabriel Mountains. I think there's the San Gabriel Mountains. I believe.
I'm not really a valley guy. And the fact that
(48:25):
you could see the San Gabriel Mountains with a smug
in the valley amazing anyway, I mean, it's unbelievable up there.
Like I went, it was like it was like walking
up It's like I almost felt like it was a
scene from a movie where you go up to heaven.
Because you know, God, everything with God, we always paint
a white you know, like whoa And I was just
you know, I was me. But you want to impress
(48:46):
the sales people because you want them to sell your show.
And when they sell your show, everybody makes money, but
specifically you make money, and that's a good thing. But
I'd like to know, like, how did that really go?
But nobody ever get there. Oh, it's great, you're great,
hey if And the biggest criticism, in addition to he's
(49:07):
not a leader, has been he's immature. Well, the greatest
side of maturity, by my estimation, outside of accepting a nap, right,
anybody who's it. Adults don't turn down naps. Adults order vegetables,
but adults also here feedback, even negative feedback, and make
(49:28):
an adjustment, megan adjustment. I'll give you some some feedback
that I got. There's a book called The First ninety Days,
First nine Days. Music makes make sure it's it's the
first I think it's the First nine Days, First ninety
Days as a book, and I wish I had had
this this book. Um, yes, it's a book on the
(49:50):
first nine days, critical success strategies for leaders at new levels.
It's a fascinating book. I had a really dear friend
of mine give it to me. Now he gave it
to me like two years into my gig at CBS,
which I could have used it like two years previously,
which I hate. It's one of the things in television
and in radio, like television your tie is a skew,
(50:12):
and people get way till the segment is over, like, hey,
by the way, your tie was off, Like, dude, come on,
you could have anyway. If you're going into a new job,
you should read the first ninety days. Frankly shouldad anyway.
But it just gives you a great Sometimes it's better
to lay low, let things happen, understand the power structure,
try and get a sense of personalities where you fit
in before you kind of unleash full whoever on them.
(50:37):
But I brought in Dan because sometimes you can people
can carry a perception of you, either from an interaction
that thirteen years ago, years ago, or music because somebody
told him could be hard to work with, like, but
that's just such a general term. No, no specifics, show,
no specifics, just hard today. Oh he is an ale
(51:03):
uh and you have and it's hard if and like,
I don't know if he would have told me had
I not asked him on live National radio, asked you
to be like either of either of you guys. And
so I think that Sean Kaiser, if he is in
fact mature, like he wants to be mature, it would
(51:24):
be great if he'd pocket this and go like, hey,
you know what, whatever I was doing, it notre dame.
Guys weren't. It wasn't like they were killing me, but
I wasn't winning them to which they were willing to
kill for me. And if you want to be a quarterback,
you gotta be a quarterback, you know what I mean.
(51:46):
We'll catch up with my boy b A Brian Anderson.
He's been on the call of a bunch of different games.
Return of Sports. I think he's up in um Oakland
right for Warriors Jazz Jazz have any shout at this thing?
And what are the Warriors like without Steve occur around?
That's just weird. He's not coaching tonight. That's up coming next.
(52:09):
So last week, I um, I stopped buying the Marina
del Rey, I'm a beautiful resort where my my boy
Brian Anderson was residing because he was doing he was
doing uh Clippers Jazz was that game was the game
that I didn't take you guys too. That was game six,
No Game five five because six was in Utah right
(52:33):
seven was in was in l a um somebody by
the way. As anyway, Kevin McHale was calling games with them,
and Kevin McHale pulled me aside and said, um hm h.
Kevin McHale pulled me aside and said, like, hey man,
in the playoffs, that's who you really are. And I
(52:56):
like it's again it's one of those expressions kind of
like whill Sim saying, kind of like Phil Sims saying, uh,
you know he's a quarterback to where if you listen,
you get it. Uh. Some guy named Eric Rouser Boys
twenty three who says that Doug just admitted he could
(53:17):
be hard to work with, confirming my suspicions that Doug
is a bit of a jerk but very entertaining. Ah.
This is the same Eric who he tweeted at Benjamin
Watson because I was joking with Benjamin Watson about hey,
let's because his kid is so cute in this and
it's his fourth kid. Five kids, is like, dude, slow
(53:38):
it down. Five and the oldest one is eight and
the youngest one is one. Like you're getting a Philip
Rivers territory, Like once you get to three. It really does.
Because it's not difficult to remember their names, it is
difficult to remember which name correlates to which child. That's
just honest, It just is like I always like I
will when I get to be a father, I will
(53:58):
never be like my my father. My father's name was Bob,
and he used to go Jake, my mom's name do
Greg Wedney Like he didn't know. He just would say
all three together kind of it once and eventually he
would get his point across. I do that all the time.
You look right at your kid, and I'm looking right
at Hartburn Grace. I'm not grace. Once you get to five,
(54:22):
that becomes difficult. Anyway, I was kind of busting chops
Ryan when I said, hey, let's just be honest. You
you married. It's one of it's it's actually it's a compliment,
right when you say you. I said it to Dan Buyer,
right like he outkicked his coverage. You married, You're over
your skis. Your kid is really cute. You must have
(54:42):
married up. It's all guys being kind of self deprecating.
She only married you because you play football. My wife
only met me, well, like me because I played basketball,
like and there's a certain there's a modocrum of truth
to it. But let's be honest. I'm a bit of
a catch. I think for Benjamin wats everything the same
thing for Benjamin Watson. Right, So I tell my wife
(55:03):
all the time. Uh, but I could be late to things.
I'm bit of a slab, but I'm a bit of
a catch. Yeah. I don't see how that's an insult.
You're you're saying you have a good looking wife. I mean,
you know, I don't know you have a good looking wife.
It's okay. I've never understood the sexism to saying a
(55:26):
woman is good looking. That don't I am so much
more than a good looking him. But you are still
a good looking woman, right, Like, that's not a I
don't know when that became a bad thing. Brian Anderson
is a good looking man. Uh uh, he's he travels
the world covering the Brewers, uh college basketball in the
n c A Tournament and now the NBA playoffs. You
(55:46):
are you're You're in the Golden States. Are you in
Oakland or in San Francisco right now? At this moment,
I'm in San Francisco. I will be in Oakland shortly though.
I know, like nobody nobody hangs in Oakland, right you
go there for the game. And I love hanging in Oakland,
and Oakland is one of my favorite places that hang
still you stop it. Come on, my brothers. Hey man,
I love Oakland, Oaklands, my more, my speed. Really, Oh
(56:09):
for sure, you're kind of a you're kind of you're
kind of a Midwestern guy. I get it. I mean
it's not actually the it's just funny to me that
the Warriors, Like I can't believe the Raiders left and
then they're moving to San Francisco in two years. Anyway,
you know that it's going to be interesting. It's going
to be interesting because they have about the vibe. I
don't know about the vibe in two years when they
do that. I saw the arena renderings. They look awesome
(56:29):
right on the waterfront. But I'm just I know they're
sold out for about twenty years. But um, that vibe
over there in Oakland, man, that's special. I love that.
I love doing games at the Colisseum for As games,
and then I did a couple of NFL games and
Raiders games over there. I just I like the whole
vibe over there. I like taking the Bark Yeah well no,
I like taking the bart places is amazing. I don't
(56:51):
know what the vibe with Raiders vie with Oakland. They
got they got raw sewage in the in the dugouts
in Oakland. Let's not act like the Colisseum is some
spectacular that if if if that place burned to the
ground and nobody was around, I don't think anybody would
would shed it to here. Um, you're you're covering tonight's game,
that the Jazz game, and Steve Kurrz is not coaching.
Um in your meetings? Is it? Is it weird in
(57:13):
any way to be approaching a playoff game with the
head coach night coaching? Uh? Not really, I mean I don't.
I think you know, you go in, You're just you're
hungry for information, so you go in. Our our relationship
with Steve was so good obviously. I mean I go
back to when Steve was a player and I was
the sideline reporter in San Antonio and he was a player,
(57:33):
so I've known him a long time. And then he
first came on the air. First time he ever did
television was with us on Spurs Television when I was
the reporter. So um, and then he went on to
fame with Turner and Um. But yeah, I missed that
part of it. And I feel really bad for Steve
going through this. This is like torture. I mean, for
him to miss a game, you know how tough he is,
but for him to miss games and um, he must
(57:55):
be an excruciating pain, and um, I'm sick warm. I
mean I would feel really bad. However, Mike Brown is
a guy that you know, for me personally, I've known
forever as well, back to those Spurs days. He was
one of Pop's assistance back in the early two thousand's,
and um, you know it'll be it'll be an easy
conversation and easy discussion. And you know, we go in
(58:18):
there with with things that we want to try to
get answered or game plan scenarios as much as they're
willing to allow, so that there's so much focus when
you go in there, like can I get these three
or four morsels out of these coaches that you know,
whoever it is, you're you're you're fine with. Uh, what
is your sense in terms of cur and whether or
not he'll return during this series? Yeah, that's a million
(58:39):
dollar questions. So my senses, I have no idea, because
he has no idea. My senses is that, um, he
could return, but unless they actually find the spot that
is causing the problem. So you know he had the
back surgery, and the way it was explained to me
is had the back surgery, and then there's a there's
you know, there's an area where there's leak it or
(59:00):
whatever it is. But if they find that spot, then
it's a it's a fix and and and he's better.
So but they're having a hard time getting to that
and you obviously just can't filet him open and go
find the spot. That's not how it works. So, um,
I think the Warriors are going about it the right
way and what Draymond Green said yesterday is exactly the
(59:21):
way they should be approaching it. That he's not coming back,
and Mike Brown's the acting head coach, and that's just
the way it's gonna be. And if Steve Kerr does
come back, it'll be seamless. At that point, I will say,
I was told he will will not be at the
arena tonight, but he has been. Uh last year when
he missed all those games, he was at the arena
and he was in his office, and so all the
(59:42):
communication parts, you know, talking to players and all the
psychological work a coach does with players is still active
and available for him. Um. But he's just not running
the team on the floor. With this team, it's so
they're so good. I their system is in there, so
good at what they do, curs a great presence. I
(01:00:02):
just think whenever maybe they run into some trouble later
in the postseason, that's where a coach really comes into play,
especially a guy like Steve Kerr. But I think they
have confidence in Mike Brown to handle that. Adams and
I feel really good for Mike Brown considering how it
ended in l A. Frankly, how it ended in Cleveland.
He won sixty one games and he got fired in
(01:00:23):
Cleveland and then Lebron left, Like you know, I feel
great for Mike Brown because he is one of the
all time great guys. I just I guess I wonder, like,
is it headaches? Is that? Is that what it is?
Because you know, if he either he's sitting or he's
standing when he's not coaching, why can't he just sit
(01:00:43):
and coach. If if that's what he's doing outside of
the arena or in the bowels of the arena, well,
I think it's more than that. I mean, it is headaches.
And I mean I'm I don't I'm not an expert.
I have no idea other than talking him last year
during the playoffs when he you know, he'd lost a
lot of weight and he was just really struggling, and
you could just tell, you know, he from the inside out.
(01:01:03):
His body is just having such a hard time and
he's in constant pain. Um. You know, I just think
for him to be able, knowing him like I do
and knowing how gritty is first of all, and how
tough he is, it must be something major that he
feels like he can't focus, concentrate, put the prep in um.
(01:01:27):
The demeanor on the bench, you know, it can't be
what he wanted to be. And I think maybe demeanor
because of the pain. He can't hide it. He tried,
and I think he just can't because you know, you're
just so you're in so much pain. I mean, I
don't know if it's comparable to like a fibro mayalgia, um,
(01:01:48):
that kind of pain, with that searing pain that can
radiate up and down. I'm not sure, But whatever it is,
it's significant enough for him to step out. And that's
all I need to hear from him, because I mean,
this dude one of the toughest guys you know, and
so it's if he could do it, he would And
I man, it's just really troubling that a back surgery
(01:02:08):
could go this poorly. I got I got two full
more for you kind of quickly. And Brian Anderson from
Turner Sports joining us. You mentioned all the time you
spent in San Antonio, and so when you watched last night, like, ah, well,
Pop will figure it out, but he can't fix old.
And they looked old. They it looked like a bad matchup,
and it looked like an old versus young matchup. Am
(01:02:29):
I crazy to think that, even though San Antonio probably
wins a game or two, that this is just this
is a mitch match of styles. This is a mismatch
of youth and athleticism. When I watched the Rockets and
the Spurs, well that certainly was the case last night.
But I guess my my opinion on that is, you know,
I've seen the Spurs get blown out before, not to
(01:02:49):
that degree, but I've seen him in the playoffs and
have moments and on the other side. And I will
say this, this came from Kevin McHale, so it makes
it valid for me. I would not have thought of this.
Kevin McHale who's my partner for this series, made a
made a call this morning that I agree with it.
I totally get um. You know, when you go through
a series with the Memphis Grizzlies, or in utass case,
(01:03:11):
with the Clippers, and you go through this series where
you're grinding it out and it's a six game series
the Spurs had with Memphis, you almost forget a little
bit of what the paces. You get into this rhythm
of what the rhythm of the game is and and
your pace as a player is. And even though you
played the Rockets a ton and you've scouted them and
you know what they are, it hits you in the face.
(01:03:31):
And then so you you start this speed basketball that
they're playing, and they were just running by the Spurs
making them look old, as you said, um, and then
they're hitting shots, and then there's a little bit of
panic that sets in, and now you know the Spurs
are morphing into more isolation basketball than they probably want to. Well,
I know that they. You know, Pop told us last
(01:03:52):
week I had Game six in Memphis and it's just
not a style that they've ever run in San Antonio.
It's all about, you know, body and ball movement and
and cutting to the basket. Well, when you have Kauai
and you have LaMarcus Aldridge, then you know you really
aren't afforded the opportunity to do that unless Tony Parker
has one of those throwback games like he did in
(01:04:12):
Game six. And you know, Monta Genovoli is going to
be forty in July, and so you it's a it's
a bit of a change for everybody in personnel and style.
And I think it hit him in the mouth yesterday.
It was like the perfect storm. Rockets made everything, especially
those like extender threes. You know when you're up eight
and you hit a three to go up eleven windows
just they beat you down. So I am fully expecting
(01:04:34):
the Spurs to get in, do what they have to
do on video and and clean up some things, and
then they'll be ready for the speed of the Rockets
come game two. That's my expectation. Enjoy San Francisco and
enjoy Oakland and enjoy the series. We'll enjoy the call
and we look forward to talking to really show. All Right, Dougy, thanks,
But as Brian Anderson b A who of course you
can hear in tonight's call on T and T. The
(01:04:56):
Warriors welcome me into Utah Jazz. The Warriors will be
with out Steve Kirk quickly, let's find out what's trending.
Uh killing. In the name of Doug Godlip Show rolls on.
Brought to you by True Car. When you're ready to
buy a new or used car, visit True Car. To
enjoy more confident car buying experience, go to true car
(01:05:20):
dot com. All right, listen, here's the Here's the thing
about God Leave that you don't know is that I
encourage dudes to come up with ideas, like you got
an idea, like, let's go for it if it sucks
wet to admit that wasn't a good idea. Let's you know,
kind of start overs. You know, just yeah that that
was that was not a good idea. So as we
reach into my sack, let's reach into God Leaves sack.
(01:05:46):
My man Dan Buyer, who you can hear weekends here
on Fox Sports Radio, except for the fact that he's
getting married, so he's probably gonna take like a month
off Wait, no, no honeymoon, Dan Buyer. You know why.
That's because he's a grinder. He's a grinder, right, Radio
one week from now, I'll be back in this chair, Doug.
That is that is true. Okay, So I've been pulled.
You got your own game, that's in my sack. Well, yeah,
(01:06:10):
I've I've been looking around your sack for a while
and I have found something there that I think you
might like. Just got paid, just got paid. And it's
not Friday night, but it and Nick Saban. We know
that Nick Saban got paid and in seventeen is gonna
make eleven point one to five million dollars. Okay, jillion,
(01:06:32):
jillion dollars. That's a lot of money, a lot of cash. Okay.
Your quest today, Doug, is to tell me if these
athletes throughout major professional sports in the United States make
more or less than Nick Saban in twenty seventeen. So
we're talking just base salaries for seventeen compared to what
Nick Saban is gonna make, which is eleven point one
(01:06:53):
to five million dollars and a salaries. We're doing greater
than or less than? And is the greater than the
athlete or is the great than well, I will stay
put it this way. For an example, if I said
Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, you would say Nick Saban
is making Nick Nick Saban is greater than where's making more? Absolutely?
(01:07:16):
And then I would say, correct, Yes, you got the
cash register Fitzgerald making just eleven million, so sabing a
little bit more than that. Nick Saban makes more or
less than whoever I give you. You're ready to play
the game. Let's let's play the feud. Yeah, let's see
what got paid? What about cardinals picture Mike Leak? Does
(01:07:37):
Nick Saban make more or less than Cardinal's picture? Mike Leak?
Mike Leak is a starting pitcher, Okay, going ready to
starting pitchers who are like average, like like not wa
is like ten to fifteen. This is got to be
(01:08:00):
right in the middle. I'll go, I'll go greater than
I'll go, like, I can't believe how much Mike Leak
makes because I really don't know. I don't think Mike leaks.
So Nick Saban makes less than Mike Leak. So I
was right? Is that's what that's what you're saying? Yeah,
Mike Leak makes Yeah? Okay, So Nick, Yes, sorry, I
know I screwed. That's all right. You started off with
Nick Saban makes and then more or less than whoever
(01:08:22):
we're saying. I know I could get a little confusing,
but okay, okay, I got it. I got it. Now
I'm sorry. I alright. This is like the first time
you go through a game, like when I go through.
My son is really good to connect for. We started
playing a little bit more advanced games, and he now
he can dust me at connect for. It's really really interesting.
Mike Leak by the way, one point three five r
A right now with the St. Louis Cadineals just thrown
out yet another young arm million dollars? Yes, what about Jocy?
(01:08:48):
Mike Leak walks into here, does anybody know who? Anybody? So,
Mike Leak is making more than Nick Saban? What about
Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen? Does Nick Saban make more or
less than Dodgers? Those are Kenley Jansen less? And I'll
tell you why without even knowing, I remember that the
Marlins wanted Kenley Jansen when they have Don madding Lee.
(01:09:09):
And so he got a new deal, and he got
a new deal Dodger money. He was a free agent.
It's not his rookie deal. I'm gonna go. He's one
of the lead closers in major League Baseball. I'll go
Nick say makes less than Kenley Jansen A ten point
eight million for Kenley Jansen, catcher Kenley Jansen. The Utah
(01:09:30):
Jazz tonight are in Oakland to face the Warriors. You
just talked with Brian Anderson. What about Derrick Favors of
the Utah Jazz. Does Nick Saban make more or less
than Derrick Favors as he favors is on his first
deal or second deal. I'm gonna say favors this, uh,
Nick Sayon makes greater than Derrick Favors. I'm happy as hell. Yeah,
(01:09:51):
listen to the cash register. We I need to pump
the volume up of that cash register. We need to
crank it out. But you are right, Derrick Favors ten
point eight million dollars um. How about this name just
got ousted from the NBA Playoffs Grizzlies forward Zack Randolph. Oh,
Nick Saban less than Jack Randoff ten point three million
dollars for Zack Randolph of the Memphis Grizzling. I remember
(01:10:12):
when he signed that deal. I thought it was but
then again, that was in the old salary cap. He
signed like a big deal, like a I'm gonna say
like a five year, sixty million dollar deal or something
like that. This must have been like close to the
last year of it. Anyway, go ahead, let's know we
got a couple more. What about a Draymond Green of
the Golden State Warriors. Nick Saban make more less than
(01:10:32):
Draymond Green. Draylon got a big deal two years ago. Right,
I'm gonna say Nick Saban less than that is correct,
fifteen point three million dollars. I gotta toss some NFL
into this. How about how about Texans defensive end J J. Watts.
J J Wats the superhero. I don't know if he
saw hard nuts, but he spends time working on his
swim move by himself over on like the third football field. Um,
(01:10:57):
I don't look, I don't know based. Basically, remember he's
in bay salary. I'll use bass salary. I'll go Nick
Saban makes more. You know the game, yes, you know
the game. And let's wrap it up with this one.
How about Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who could be playing
his final season in Kansas City with Pat Mahomes on
the horizon. Eleven million dollars talking about a starting quarterback
(01:11:18):
in the National Football League. Yeah, I don't. Uh, I'll
say Nick Saban less then well, Doug Well G. J.
Watt made ten and a half million dollars in or
will make Alex Smith just ten million. So Nick Saban
makes more than both of those National football and that
is a new game we call just Friday Night. What's
(01:11:45):
the name of that song just got Is it called
just Got Paid? Jeff god Bay? Who's the singer? Is
it was it Guy? No? It wasn't god was the guy?
Or is it Gerald Leaverte was Guy? No? It wasn't
Gerald Leavert got Paid? I yeah, it was terrible. Sorry,
Uh it was Johnny Kemp also covered by in Sync.
(01:12:10):
By the way, it just Got Paid? Was was it? Yes?
All right, I'm gonna have to download that one. Just
got the Johnny the Johnny Kemp one, Johnny Kemp. I
can't tell as he mixed or just had really bad hair.
He had kind of an interesting look. Going back. You
should hear Sean Kemp's version of it. It's great, Oh, John,
come on, John didn't like that? Was it was just
a random basketball player? That's all? Could have said. Matt Kemp, Uh,
(01:12:33):
Matt Camp, Matt Kemp braves Now he's still rounding the
bases in Milwaukee. Matt kempt Kemp of the Braves. He
he just got paid, remember, and then he stunk as
soon as he got paid? Man? Did he get bad?
In a hurry? Um. We we also play a little
game called what did the Fox Say? You'll be interested
to hear what Colin Cowherd said about what the Spurs
(01:12:57):
should have done to stay ahead of a E. G.
E H. Getting old. That's next. I didn't know that
Johnny Kemp got the callee. You guys know, Johnny Kemp
died a couple of years ago, native of Jamaica, felling
some rocks, hit his head and drowned. That's a that
is not on my top five ways to go, but
(01:13:17):
it was in Jamaica. Well, Johnny Kemp for this is
the number one song in eighties six. I was ten
years old, Doug gotlip show rolls on Fox Sports Radio
Ramos eighty six. Did you like just got paid? Did
you like Johnny Kemp? I have no idea who that
was in Night six? Really, I did not know. I'm
honest with you. What will you grew up listening to six?
(01:13:38):
I was like depeche Mode for me and you're depeche
Mode Ramos, You're not white, You're a chick? What I like? Seriously,
like I like Depeche Mode? Was I grew up in
Orange County and that was white chick music or like, yeah,
that was that was. I don't I don't see you
being U. I honestly don't see I like Duran Duran
in eighty six, stuff like that, Duran Duran. What's your
(01:14:00):
favorite Duran durand song? My favorite song is the Reflex,
the Reflex, and that's it. Yeah. I don't even know
what the reflex is. Though nobody knew what was the reflex.
I have no idea, but it was a good song. Yeah,
like where where Frankie said, Frankie goes to Hollywood? Frankie said, relaxed,
like we know what that You know what that songs about? Right, Okay, good?
(01:14:23):
You know what. I didn't at the time, But I
just want to point this out. I took I went
to her Name for a year, then went to junior
college for a year, and then went to oaklahom State
for three years. So I was just telling a buddy
mind this. My favorite class I ever took was the
history of rock and roll at Golden West College. Sounds
that was great. It was incredible, and like the professor,
the entire first lecturer was basically proving to you that
(01:14:46):
everything about traditional rock and roll, including rock and roll,
was about sex. And it was like a light bob,
like I had no idea. And then he plays for
you at the end. He was like playing for you.
Frankie goes to Hollywood, which is from my my early
my mid adolescent years. And I listened to the words,
(01:15:07):
it's like no way. I was on the radio every day.
Who knew? Who knew? Um, let's play for you? What
did the Fox saw? The Fox? So Colin Coward was
talking earlier today on Fox Sports Radio and of course
on FS one about the debacle that was the Spurs
(01:15:28):
last night, and he had this to say about the
difference between Greg Popovitch and Bill Belichick. But it's over
for the Spurs. And it's over for the Spurs unless
they get Chris Paul or Younger at the point guard position.
Why because Greg Popovitch has let it happen. Bill Belichick
would have shipped Manu genobly Tony Parker out of town
(01:15:49):
four years ago and gotten great value. But as Tim
Duncan ages. They got one title in ten years in
san Antonio, New England just won another one. You get
Tim Duncan, you win titles, but they didn't happen before him.
And now that he's gone, what is san Antonio an
old old roster? Now, look, their bench is not as old.
(01:16:11):
They've they they've developed some younger players on their bench.
Some of them haven't improved enough to become starters. But
he's generally right. It should be pointed out that San
Antonio played the free agency game in an attempt to
elongate the the run, and it landed them La Marcus Aldrich.
(01:16:32):
But of course the Marcus Aldridge hasn't gotten them a title,
hasn't then gotten them even close to a title, because
the constructor of that team is they've gone up against
just far more youth, farm, more athleticism, farm, actually hybrid players,
something that's kind of the new wave in the league.
He's not wrong, but he's also not Collins not right
because as much as you'd like to say, hey, just
(01:16:53):
Jenison those guys like Bill Belichick does, that doesn't happen
in the NBA because of contracts. And though I could
maybe get Chris Paul. Does Chris Paul really want to
move to San Antonio? Chris Paul makes sense to San
Antonio Milwaukee. Those become championship teams if he goes there.
By the way, Chris Paul, speaking of getting younger, is
thirty two in May. So he's not wrong, but he's
(01:17:14):
not right because you don't you can't make You're not
as versatile. You're not as able to cut guys or
move guys out, or trade guys with one year left
in their deal in basketball as you are in football.
Different contracts, structure, different cap and so you almost have
to live with your guys and right out the string
as long as you can. That's what the Fox said.
(01:17:36):
Every day, we're gonna try and play for you a
snippet of sound that we heard early on Fox Sports Radio.
We have an incredible lineup on serious sex time. You
got Undisputed in the morning as well as Clay Travis
in the morning. Uh, and then you have Dan Patrick,
Collin Cowherd, Rich Eisen all the way to Steve Gorman
Sports and JT the Brick. If we hear it, If
(01:17:58):
you hear it and you want us to talk about it,
tweet us at Gottlieb Show at Gottlieb Show. Huh. I
don't know if this is a hashtag first world problems
or not, but it sure feels like it. Wait, do
you hear what Tyron Lou had to say about coaching
the Cleveland Cavaliers and how he views the job in
(01:18:21):
comparison to other jobs in the NBA. Uh. I think
you'll find it interesting. It's upcoming next on the Doug
Gotlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. What up? It's Dug Gotlieb Show,
(01:18:42):
Fox Sports Radio. Just another bomb track here in the
Doug Gotlieb Show. With True Car, you can find out
what other people in your area paid for the same
car that you're looking for and on average save over
three thousand off F S r P. We're looking for
a newer used cars a True Car didn't any more
confident car buying experience. I'm actually going to I think
(01:19:03):
drinks with the carpet the True Car people, and I
love I love the idea. You can find out what
other people make. It's like my favorite day. Do you guys?
You guys um music is not old enough? Did you promise?
Did you ever get the Sunday Paper? You still get
the Sunday papers do not. But did yes, music you do?
You get your parents get it? Yeah, I mean I
was around when it was still prolific things. My mom
(01:19:26):
still gets the papers. My mom's seventy one years old,
so she still gets the paper. And her thirteen year
old gold retrievers blind and as arthritis and UH an
ulcer still goes out and gets You gotta kind of
take him out there and direct him towards the favor.
But he gets it. He brings in any gimme a
bone every day. Hey. My favorite UH Sunday paper is
the one that has the parade magazine. You know parade
(01:19:48):
magazines like the fake magazine. You get it for free
on Sundays. Well, once a year they have the what
people make it the greatest thing ever, Like, oh my god,
they make that much that or that little which I'll
use that as a reference point at different points in sports.
It's one of my favorite things to do. It's like,
once you know what somebody makes, you look at them
completely different. It's one of the unfair things about being.
(01:20:10):
One of the unfair things is how much money they
make in comparison to us. For us, it's unfair. It's Also,
what's unfair is everybody knows how much they make. And
when you know how much somebody makes you, you hold them,
I don't know, more accountable or you. Your expectations are
raised to a ridiculous level. I mean Joe Johnson's perfect example,
see him tonight, right, But Joe Johnson forever was only
(01:20:31):
known as I So Joe. But he was the highest
paid player in the NBA for a good couple of
years there. And Joe Johnson has always been good for
a bucket like that dude can score. He will go
to his grave getting buckets. But he was an underachiever,
not because he wasn't a good player, but because of
how much money he was making because of the parade
magazine effective you will, But the true card thing, that's
(01:20:51):
kind of like the same thing, right, It's like, Oh,
I get to find out how much Jimmy down the
street paid for his Toyota Corolla, like I want to
get it for less. I'm competitive that way, competitive that
way anyway. So the Calves last night dominated Toronto and
the Spurs were dominated by the Houston Rockets. And while
(01:21:15):
I understand the fact that the Spurs had is a
complete change of pace, and they just got blown out
of the water, and there will be some adjustments and
they will probably win a game or two because they
are the Spurs. The fact remains, if you can't guard
the ball, you can't guard the ball, right. You can't
guard the ball. You can't guard the ball, period, and
(01:21:39):
that's forever going to be an issue with them. I
believe the Calves are much better than the Raptors. I
still think the Raptors will probably find a way to
win a game. They're ugly enough. Both teams who are
undermanned are gonna try and make the series into a
physical hand to hand comment. That's the only way you
compete with a better team in basketball is you just
(01:22:02):
mall them. You just all them. Speaking of the Calves,
I thought there was much ado about nothing with Lebron
faking like he was going to take a drink of
a beer. Now had he slugged that beer, Oh, I
think it would have been better. I do. I don't know.
I felt weird about him. It felt think that he
(01:22:24):
was like now with some one, I would have taken
a drink ha ha ha. I felt like he thought
he had a jerk store line and it wasn't It
was like the jerk store line. Um. But I saw
this from Tyron Louis, and it I don't think it
came across as he had planned. He was talking about
(01:22:45):
how hard it is to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers. This
is Tyron lou who did a magnificent job last year
when he took over the adjustments he made in series,
motivating his team both last season and this season to
get them to play. He had this to say about
(01:23:07):
coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers. There's thirty jobs in the NBA.
I would say this one is different than all the
other ones. It's the hardest job by far. Um, it's
the hardest job. But you know, I've been through a
lot of tough things in my life anyway, and I
just try not to um listen to the outside noise,
you know, to the media and what they have to say.
(01:23:28):
You know, as long as I have the support of
you know, David Griffin, you know Dan Gilbert, my players,
the city of Cleveland, you know the state of Ohio.
Long as I have that support, that's all that matters.
It's not the hardest job by far. What a is
he talking about? That is his first world problems. All right,
that's the guy in first class going, oh, I don't
(01:23:48):
have late flat seats. Can you believe we don't have
late flat seats. This is the worst first class light
of all time. But there is no perspective there at
all for hilu of it. I think it's much more
difficult to coach the Lakers who are young, immature, not talented,
(01:24:09):
and you bring in veterans that aren't winners and underperformed, Like,
I think that's harder, considering there's seventeen banners that hang
and you stink, and then when you when you're supposed
to lose at the end of the season, your team
starts winning. Like, that's a harder job. It's harder when
you don't have players. Oh, it's it's That's like guys
(01:24:33):
saying I get the greatest agent in the world when
you represent Lebron James, Like, dude, Lebron James can command
as much money as he wants, Like Max Steel, what
do you got. It's when a guy is out of work,
has burned some bridges, is coming off an injury, like
that guy gets a job. That's a good agent. Look,
(01:24:58):
I'm not trying to diminish the job that Tyrone Lou
has done. I'm not. I think he's done an outstanding job.
I think he's proved positive that. Look, he didn't have
a ton of coaching experience being on doc staff and
being elevated to associate head coach and then thrown into
the fire when they were a mess last jan January. Like,
(01:25:18):
he didn't and he has been the perfect hire for
this organization. But this is a lot like Lebron James.
And when Lebron James said, like, hey, I'm just a
kid from Akron, Ohio, I'm not supposed to be here, Like, hey, dude,
you're six ft eight two sixty pounds, you're a world
class athlete. Where the hell else are you supposed to be?
(01:25:41):
So had he said, it's different, it has uh, it
has it's it's it's has its difficulties. There's ridiculous expectations
because you have Lebron, because you have Carrie, because he
had because of the investment of the ownership, because you
don't have a dynasty unless you went back to back tomes.
But one reason, like the Spurs, if they lose and
(01:26:02):
it this offficiently becomes over something we thought we wanted
to do Time of Death for the Spurs like a
couple of years ago, right, right, you want to feel
like it was done, it was over if we if
we do call it, I don't believe you'll ever call
it a dynasty because they never won back to back titles,
Like don't you have to do that? Well, they almost
won and then ray Allen hit a three and Lebron
(01:26:25):
carried him and gave something, but they didn't write dynasties
have to have a run in basketball. All the dynasties
have back to back titles. Um, but that's a hard job, right,
Like I don't think Pop has to be a jerk
to everybody, Like people are scared to ask him a
(01:26:49):
question after the game. What is like, how is that
a good thing for the sport? Oh? Greg, Pop? It's
treating somebody like crap who's doing their job? Come on, man,
we be better than that. Ask him a question. He
can give a respectful answer and dude, I'm doing my job.
What went wrong to night? Why are they getting some
mandy open looks? But anyway, the point is like that
(01:27:11):
job has its challenges, Like I would say that coaching
the Brooklyn Nets, who had no players. None is a
harder job. It just is there may not be as
as lofty of expectations, but do do you want to
take all those elves? Like do you think Brent Brown's
job is easier or harder than Tyrone? Lose job by
(01:27:34):
by like he was like by far, dude, like to
talk about a no perspective? Can you name can you
name the starting lineup? A starting lineup for the Brooklyn Nets?
You can't name the next the nut last game because
the last game of the season, remember they sat all
their guys, which made no sense at all. Can you
(01:27:54):
even name the coach of the Brooklyn Nets? Can you
Ryan Music? Can you name a starter on the book?
And that I only I. The only one that comes
to mind is Jeremy Lynn. Jeremy Lynn was injured a
good portion of the year was a starting point, gup um.
And then you have to guess which Lopez brother right,
(01:28:16):
Brooke brook Lopez correct? So then you got to two
of five? Is not bad? Oh, it's the hardest job
by far. That's like that. That's like the CEO who's like, man,
this is such a tough job. Man, Like, yeah, you
make like fifteen million dollars a year, dude, Like, it's
(01:28:37):
a lot harder when you're making ten an hour and
you've got three kids at home and you're trying to
Like whose job is really harder? Yeah, Like I that's
like me complained. Like, man, this coming up with something
to talk about for three hours, that's difficult. And Rama's
is like, dude, try following you and pushing all the
buttons and making it sound right and getting paid, you know,
(01:28:58):
getting getting getting paid worker money, Like, come on, man,
Like it's it's crazy. Do you think he means that,
Doug because of dealing with Lebron James, that what he's
is that what he's trying to say, that's what makes
it the hardest job in the league. I think there is.
I think look, he and Lebron are friends or friendly,
but look, Lebron has an ego. Everybody like, you're dealing
(01:29:18):
with men, they have egos. You're dealing with players who
are hurt, players who are injured. You're trying to find
your the Their egos can get hurt, their egos can
get injured. There's a lot of different parts to it.
I just think like the guy who complain, guy who
has the best player in the world complaining about how
difficult his job is after having won a championship in
(01:29:42):
his first half of a season being a head coach,
saying it's far and away the toughest job in the league.
A league of thirty two teams or thirty teams, excuse
me when he hasn't been on all of them. He
definitely hasn't. He hasn't coached more than one of them.
And Lebron is surrounded by all of the talent that
Lebron wanted and fits kind of their general theme of players.
(01:30:07):
That's the guy in first class complaining about first class service.
I can't believe the seat doesn't lay back. I can't
believe they only have white wine. Why are they only
have white wine in this God, this is the worst
first class flight ever. I like red, they have white.
We'll take you to Alabama or Nick Saban got paid.
(01:30:29):
We'll take you to Boston where the Celtics from want
and oh trying to make it too and oh, We'll
tell you to the Bay area. Just the area, somewhere close.
Find out what the Golden State Warriors, having tapped for
the Jazz, we got guys everywhere. They join us next
every day we take you to take like to take
you around the country, get you updated on stories that
are poignant that are important to you from the people
(01:30:50):
that cover them. Jason lack camp four from CBS Sports
is gonna join us upcoming in fifteen minutes. We'll get
his take and his insight from people within the NFL
he talks to on last weekend's NFL Draft, maybe specifically
some of the commentary he heard about Sean Kaiser. We'll
get to that after we kind of span the country
(01:31:11):
for people we know covering the games we want to
know about. We don't know everything, but we know people
that know what you want to know. You know, it
sounds like you need a guy. I got a guy,
(01:31:32):
all right. Now. Let's let's start in Tuscaloosa where Nick
Saban signs a huge contract extension to remain as head
coach with a Crimson tie. Ryan Fowler host I wanted
to point nine FM in Tuscaloosa at Ryan C. Fowler
covering the tie. Ryan, Uh, why the Rays? Well? I
think you look at Nick Saban and there's a lot
(01:31:54):
of other coaches that had went at least close to him,
that had accomplished very little when you compare a hundred
nineteen wins and a hundred and thirty eight contests when
you look at Ford national titles for SEC titles. Uh,
you know, Jim Harball makes more and I can paying
here in Tuscaloosa And asked the Athletic corrector a couple
of weeks ago on my show, when was it gonna
(01:32:14):
be time that you pay the man if you look
at it from a local standpoint, and Doug, if you
ever have a chance to come to Tuscaloosa and see what, Yeah,
he has changed the town. I mean thousand students at
Alabama there was eight team when he arrived. Yeah, no, listen,
I look. I I have a friend who there's a
group of of kids from Orange County who now they
(01:32:37):
go to SEC schools and a lot of them want
to go to Alabama. And big reason why is they
college football looks like a good town. I'm not saying
that he doesn't. No one's arguing that he doesn't deserve it,
but like in there a limit to how much is
a good idea to pay to a college football coach? Well,
you know I was talking about that a few hours
ago on my show, talking about the disconnect and when
you start paying. You know, they're paying eleven point one
(01:33:00):
US year, which includes the signing bonus Hill drop down
the seven point one to five. For the next couple
of years, that will go up to ten point three
I think in one, which maybe the year that I
think a lot of us are circling. But you know,
he distributes a lot of that money. You know he's
got He's got an assistant coach here that makes nine
hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Now that's not a coordinator. Uh,
(01:33:21):
that's Tosh Slupoi that you know knows a lot about
the West Coast. He's a great recruiter from a five
fifty to nine hundred fifty thousand dollars. Uh. That is
you know Alabama's you know, got crazy fans. They don't
it a ton of money. And I think this is
one of those that the athletic director told me a
couple of weeks ago. He said, we want to make
sure that Nick Saban knows that we appreciate it. And
at sixty five, you pay him so much money that
(01:33:43):
even if if retirement crosses his mind, you know, he
looks up and goes, all right, I can go one
more year. I can go one more year, and one
more year gives Alabama chance to want another national title.
And I think that's the motivation, is to make sure
that he doesn't think about retirement. Question. Uh, best guess
who's there starting quarterback when they start SEC play. Wow,
(01:34:06):
you're really putting me on the spot. I'm a huge
fan of t A Togo by Loa. Uh, Jalen Hurts.
It's hard to argue with what he did, but I'll
say by November the first that to A Togo by
Loa will be the starting quarterback. I think he's just
too elite. Just said on the bench. Jalen Hurts has
earned a lot. I'm still not impressed with the way
he throws the football. I think I still think he's
(01:34:28):
got a long way to go with reading defenses. Uh.
To A Togo Byla is a absolute stud. When you
talk about a freshman quarterback, I think he'll be the
guy if I November the onet. I tend to agree
with you from what I've heard, but you would know
a lot more because you're in the area covering it
for one or two point nine FM. Ryan Fowler follow
him on Twitter at Ryan C. Fowler as Nick Saban
(01:34:49):
got paid. Thanks so much, Ryan, Thank you, sir. I
got a guy, got got a guy, Jill forton Ball
who covers the among other things, the Golden State Warriors.
You can hear him six to ten am Pacific time
point seven the game in the Bay Area. Do you
think there's any effect on the Warriors at all in
(01:35:09):
the playoffs without Steve Kerr A little, a little when
it comes to substitutions and Doug, it's a pleasure to
be with you. Thank you for having me on the show. Um.
Steve Kerr has become a master and knowing the exact
moment of when to pull a Clay Thompson, when to
substituted Draymond Green, so to move to Mike Brown. Brown
did a very nice job in the Portland's series of
(01:35:29):
pulling the trigger on those decisions right around the time
kur would have done so. Kurr even mentioned that in
an interview after the first game Brown substituted for him.
My question would be, as it pertains to Draymond Green.
You see the number of three point attempts for Draymond
Green doubling when Steve Kerr was out of action. Steve
Current Draymond had been known to get into it regarding
(01:35:52):
his three point shooting. It seemed like once the teacher
was away in the substitute was in. Draymond extended that
leash a little bit, But by and large, I don't
think it's to be a major problem moving forward. All Right.
Kevin Durant, of course came back. It came back from
injury and looks like he's close to fully healthy. But
like Steph Curry's numbers spiked when k D was out,
(01:36:13):
how much of a work in progress is it still
going to be now that kads back at full strength.
I thought it was gonna be a work in progress,
But any of those thoughts were eliminated as soon as
Durant came back at the end of the regular season,
and these two took it to another level. Anyone you
talked to, the chemistry is there. They had figured it
out before the Durant injury. All that really was was
(01:36:34):
an opportunity for step to remember whose stath was, and
that's the reigning two time m v P of the
National Basketball Association. When Durant came back, those two kicked
it into another level. Now, Clay Thompson is the one
who's points in scoring disappear at times. But that's nothing
new for Clay. He finds that year when they needed most.
I e. What we saw in Game six against Oklahoma
(01:36:57):
City last year. So in terms of a chemistry issue,
I don't think there's anything to worry about. When they
played together at the end of that Portland series, they
put it on the Blazers when those two were out
there together. The Utah Jazz survives seven games against the Clippers.
I thought it was a good matchup against the Clippers
for them because Clippers aren't strong defensively at the two,
not strong offensively at three, allowed them to kind of
(01:37:17):
shrink the court at the right spots at the defensive end.
How do you think, how does this Jazz team match
up with the Warriors. Well, the Jazz have done a
nice job of bringing the pace down as it pertains
to the Warriors. In the eleven meetings they've had in
the three years since Steve Kerr took over as head
coach of the Golden State Warriors, the Warriors have eclipsed
the hundred and six points only twice, just two times.
(01:37:39):
And this is a team that's been scoring at an
alarming pace, especially this season. Late in the year when
Durant was out, they were averaging somewhere around a hundred
and sixteen points per game during that thirteen game winning
streak prior to the return of k D. So the
slow pace, which the Jazz ranked thirtieth in the NBA,
and that tends to bring the scoring down a bit,
(01:37:59):
but will be interesting to see how go bear is
used when the Warriors make the switch about five to
six minutes into the first quarter from Zaza Patrulia to
JaVale McGee. That's been one of the nice little tricks
the Warriors have implemented this year is that just when
a team gets a little comfort against the Petrolia lineup,
here comes McGee to add a new wrinkle. And then
just when you think you might be figuring that out,
(01:38:21):
the Warriors make another switch and possibly go back to
the death lineup or the Hampton's five lineup, which gives
you another wrinkle altogether. So the Jazz will give it
a fight. They've won two of those eleven aforementioned games
I talked about, and they've played competitive basketball against the
Warriors before, but by and large, they're gonna be overmatched
in terms of a seven game series. Joe Fort and Ball,
who you can hear six to ten am Pacific time
(01:38:44):
on ninety five point seven the game in the Bay Area.
You can follo him on Twitter as well at Joe
Fort and Bajoe. Thanks so much for joining us. Enjoy
the game. We'll talk real soon, my pleasure. Doug, thanks
for having met a guy. Gary Washburn, NBA writer and
a good one for the Boston Clube Globe. He joins
us here on the Doug Gottlib Show. They get down
sixteen and nothing in Game one, Gary, and then they
(01:39:05):
come storming back behind nineteen three point shots. I got
a new little back and forth with Colin Cowherd earlier today,
and I said, look, you know this is they're gonna
They're gonna play a small line up against the size
of of the Washington Wizards. How much of what we
saw in Game one is replicable in other games for
the Boston Celtics. I don't know if they're gonna ever,
(01:39:26):
you know, are they gonna make nineteen three pointers again
in Game two or Game three? But when they can
shoot well, they can play with anybody. And that was
the case in Game one. Uh and Isaiah Thomas did
score thirty three points, but he got a lot of help.
Every Bradley, J. Crowd or Al Horford had a really
good game. Um. They just seemed comfortable, especially home playing
(01:39:46):
against Washington. Uh, and that was the case again on Sunday.
So I do think that they can play this well,
but I don't know if they can shoot this well.
They're gonna have to play better defense. They can't fall
hind sixteen nuns or twenty two to five. Um, and
they've got to get ready for the for the onslaught
because I'm sure Waite Wall and Bill will be ready tonight. Uh.
(01:40:09):
They used Jalen Brown only in the fourth quarter. They
started Gerald Green, but he looked badly overmatched. What do
you think Brad Stevens does in Game two? He might
It all depends on this. Marquis Morris is playing. Uh.
He's a big that gives the Celtics some problems in size.
If they decided to go small. I'm sure they'll go
with Marcus Smart along at at at the three and
(01:40:32):
move Jay Crowded to the four, which makes them really small.
But they're more first of the lineup without Horford at
the five, who can bring uh Marcin Gortat away from
the basket, and that was the lineup that essentially beat
the Wizards. But if Morris's playing, you've got to account
for him, and you've got to have another big on
him and you might see him near Johnson. Green has
(01:40:53):
got to just step up. I mean, there's games he's
played well in the games just kind of disappeared in.
But that's kind of been his history. I don't think
the hels a surprise, and he's playing up and down
because that's the way he's been in the last couple
of years. Great stuff. Gary Washburn from the Boston Globe
covering the Celtics. They try and take a two commanding
two games this none lead over the Washington Wizards. Gary,
thanks so much for being our guest in Boston. Hey, thanks,
(01:41:16):
do so you needed a guy, We got you a guy.
Those are our guys, including my little guy Hayes. At
the end, let's take it to the NFL upcoming next,
Jason lack Camp for CBS NFL Insider will join us.
Just how bad was the vibe around Deshauan Kaiser at
Notre Dame and does that mean he won't be able
(01:41:38):
to start this year for the Cleveland Browns. Find out
if we find out what's trending? Sounds right? Right? Does right?
A little bit tracer from Duke by the way, we
get s Matt Guy. Benjamin Watson joined us earlier in
the day. Let's keep it with football. Jason lack can
Ford joined his CBS NFL insider joining me on Fox
Sports Radio. Jason, thanks so much for spending some time
(01:41:58):
with us. You had an interesting piece. We had notes
about a lot of different things, but one about Deshaun
Kaiser Um in comparison to Mitchell Drobiskie, Deshaun Watson, with
some interesting quotes from people who asked about their time
at their previous universities. For those who haven't read the piece,
what would they learn? Well, I mean just reaffirming a
(01:42:20):
lot of what I heard leading up to the draft
about why Kaiser was invariably going to slide and why
he wasn't going to be a first round pick, or
at least part of it. Um, they just weren't guys
who he played with who were willing to sort of
pound the table and thump their chest and say, you
know that's our dog, that's our leader. We ride or
die with him. You know, he is the program. You know,
(01:42:42):
he he'll you know, we'll go down swinging with him
no matter what. He's the guy on one of my
fox All. There wasn't a whole lot of that really,
the teams I talked to, and these are teams that, um,
you know, have no no skin in the games, teams
that maybe we're going to take a developmental quarterback down
the road who kicked the tires on a ton of
these guys, But we'ren't going to be taking someone in
(01:43:02):
the first two rounds. But still you're gonna do your
homework on everybody because if DeShawn Kaiser was all of
a sudden there in the fourth round, you've got a
big decision to make. So um and I heard, you know,
the same sort of things, which was like, you know,
he's all right, and yeah, we're cool with him, and
yeah he's a pretty good quarterback. But there wasn't really
a lot of enthusiasm. There weren't. There wasn't. Um. People
(01:43:24):
did not want to campaign for him. People didn't really
want to put their neck out there for him. And
you couple that with a head coach who was out
right I mean, I don't know sabotage is too strong
of a word, but certainly wasn't endorsing him. And you
have a down final year in college, it's not as
good as the year before, and you have, you know,
him not necessarily given off the greatest aura when he's
(01:43:46):
meeting with teams and seeming overly confident and too cocky
for his own good, and questions about how coachable he's
going to be when you're talking about making an investment
this significant and I don't meet financially, but I mean
for a Brown's franchise that's been purpurchased, you know, perpetually
chasing its tail at the quarterback position since they came
back in the league as an expansion team, you know,
(01:44:09):
to have ended up with this guy who was not
the guy who they thought was the first quarterback by
any stretch, and frankly was not the guy that I
heard Hugh Jackson really wanted. Later in the draft, I
had heard about Dobbs from Tennessee as fourth round and
later maybe we sit out quarterbacks, really pushed defense first
two three rounds and maybe come back with the Dobbs
(01:44:29):
as the developmental guy. Later. Somehow they end up with
Kaiser in the second round, which not saying it won't work,
but there's a reason he ended up there in the
first place. All right, So do you think what do
you think it's Cleveland's plan. Hey, let's see if it
works and if not, next year we have a couple
of top quarterback prospects. Where do you feel like there's
a legit investment that Kaiser can't in fact be the guy? Well,
(01:44:52):
I mean if he look here, I mean they just
took him. It's the highest they've taken a quarterback in
a while. If he can't beat out Kessler and Oswalder,
you've got a problem right there. I mean, I don't
know how long you're gonna keep him at Bay. The
fans are gonna want to see him play. Um, the
owner is gonna want to see him play. And I mean,
(01:45:14):
I don't know that anyone's gonna have a whole lot
of faith. I mean, Kessler is is I mean, he's
a system guy. He's somebody who could be a nice
career back up. He doesn't have high end potential. So
if this kid can't beat him out, what does that saying.
I mean, Brock Oswalder within minutes of trading for him.
They were shopping the contract all over the league, saying,
(01:45:34):
we'll give you a pick in ten million dollars to
take him off our heads. So he's gotta beat him out.
Jason lockham Ford join us from CBS Sports Dot, got
the show Fox Sports Radio. Uh, what about c J.
Beth There are some that think he's the Kirk Cousins
of this draft. What have you heard when you kind
of peruse the league and asked them about bethar I mean,
(01:45:56):
it's mixed feelings that when we start talking about day
three r backs or when he went late in Day
two but perceived day three quarterbacks, if we don't know
what the hell they are in the first round, right,
we definitely don't know what they are in the third, fourth,
or fifth. But there were people who liked him, who
felt like he's already highly functional. Um, you know, coach
buying NFL style. Coach in Iowa has played in a
(01:46:21):
ballgame four straight years, right, one one, A fair number
of games played against decent competition. Has the right bloodlines.
Um that there's some you know, there's there's some positive attributes,
some clay that you could mold and it's you know,
Washington was another team that liked them, and they've got
Cousins right now. And the team that picked them San Francisco, well,
(01:46:42):
the guy who picked them, called Shanahan, is the guy
who with his dad picked Cousins in Washington whatever six
years ago when they were there. So you know, it's
not surprising that those two teams were among those who
liked them. Um, you know, is better going to be
a high end starter. I think it's difficult to project that.
One thing about Cayl Shannah and as well as you know,
(01:47:02):
he likes to find or develop sort of that system
guy who will be there for a long time, who
will do things the right way, and who will help
others learn the system. I mean, there's a reason he
reached back the whole. You know, his horrior in shop
this time around right in San Francisco is going to
sign one of those two because they both fit that mold.
If they have to start six to twelve games for
(01:47:23):
you because of injury, they can keep your competitive. If
they have to start sixteen games for you or multiple
years for you, you've got a problem. Um, but they
could be a really good Todd Collins type for you
for a long time. And those guys make a lot
of money in the league. Now, you make five six
million dollars a year doing that now, So, um, you know,
that could be the kind of piece they find there
where a year from now, when Horrier's probably gone and
(01:47:47):
when if Cousins isn't available, Kyl Shannah has looking at
drafting a quarterback or or what have you. A year
from now, Bet there's one year in the system and
somebody who can you know, help you along the way
with that kid and be a little bit of insurance
if the kids not ready to play. Jason lock cam
for from CBS Sports joining us Doug Gotli show, Fox
Sports Radio. Um, I sure hope the Raiders have more
(01:48:10):
information than the rest of us, or then they're letting
on what's what's your take on the garyon Conley and
how they handle this situation heading forward. Well, they're not
the only team that was still considering him in the
first round. I would have been shocked had he not
gone in the first round based on the kind of
information teams were getting. Um, you know about where that
(01:48:33):
where that case stood. I don't even know if it's
fair to call it a case where that allegation stood.
Uh as we got into the draft last Thursday. I mean,
he was certainly under consideration for the Saints at thirty two. Now,
if Ruben Foster were still there, they you know, they
probably would have gone Reuben Foster. But you know, again Conley,
they were looking at him in the first round. Um,
(01:48:54):
the Houston Texans, had they not made that trade up,
had they stayed where they are, their defensive coordinator, Mike
Rabel recruited kindly to the Ohio State, knows him the
family very well and was strongly vouching for for him,
even at sort of this time of crisis. Uh, parts
of those allegations based on videotape evidence don't seem to
(01:49:16):
hold up. Obviously. He just spoke kindly did with the
authorities on Monday. The d A, you know at the
time we're talking right here, hasn't said anything one way
or the other. But there were three witnesses in that room.
I spoke to people with multiple teams who spoke with
those witnesses. In some cases, on more than one occasion,
teams were talking with Connley. They were talking to Conley's lawyer,
(01:49:38):
their security people were reaching out to NFL investigators and
to the police department in Cleveland. There was a polygraph
test involved. Again, there's some video evidence that was already
available to some teams, and based on all that, the
Raiders made the move, and I'm telling you others were
very comfortable doing the same based on what they knew
(01:49:59):
at the time, what what I said, um yesterday, and
you tell me that this is right or wrong. There's
a there's a little bit of a knee jerk reaction
with with for Net and McCaffrey skipping Bowl games and
that they protect themselves. They didn't get hurt, Jake, but
does get hurt. We saw Jalen Smith get hurt the
year before. There's gonna be more players skipping Bowl games.
(01:50:19):
I do think that's only telling half the story though, Jason,
as you know, covering it far longer than I have
and far more in depth than I have. A lot
of these players make a name for themselves and really
use the Bowl game to elevate their draft status and
it becomes a showcase for him. What are your thoughts
on the future of Bowl games, especially the ones that
that that by our estimation don't matter because they're not
(01:50:42):
for a national championship. Yeah, I I don't know that
I'm ready to project one way or the other that
don't be looked at as an anomaly five years from now,
or that this will be a complete landslide. Um, you know,
the whole the whole evaluation works a lot of different ways.
I mean, go back to some of the biggest games
I'll Bama's played, and Ryan Anderson looks like the best
(01:51:02):
defender on the field. Right, But Ryan Anderson doesn't jump
through the ceiling at the combine and he doesn't run
a great time, Sir, Ryan Anderson goes in the second round.
As kids on the Alabama program, who are the alpha dogs,
the men among men in your in your on your defense?
And to a man, they'll say Ruben Foster and Ryan Anderson.
You know, so he bowled out in the championship game,
(01:51:24):
and if they beat Clemson, he's probably the defensive m
v P. But you know what I mean. So I
don't know, Doug, you know what I mean, Like, these
teams come to these conclusions in so many different ways. Um,
I don't think they'll be the last two to do
it by any stretch of the imagination. Will it start
happening in droves? Um? You know, I'm not sure about
(01:51:44):
that either. I think what should be of maybe even
more concern or more on the front burner his kids
blown out achilles and blowing out a c ls A
pro days and you know what I mean. They're not
NFL p A l sigible quite yet, and they're not
NFL employees quite yet. But there's very real risks involved
(01:52:05):
in that. And I'm wondering, especially some of the top kids,
if these agents get together amongst themselves and say, you
know what here, you know what we should do. Whether
the PA is totally behind us or not, maybe some
of these kids just don't do it. And if we
do it in numbers, then we'll get people's attention and
maybe others will catch on. You know, same thing with
coming to the draft and being a part of what
(01:52:26):
is a money maker for the NFL, but one that's
not necessarily putting any money in the kid's pocket in
terms of appearance fees and being a part of that
television product and licensing and all that. There's a lot
of agents who are frustrated about that process and feel like,
you know what, the league's making all this money, pay
these kids fifty thousand or whatever to go there, otherwise,
you know we're gonna advise our clients not to do it.

The press. All right, how about the press. Here's dan buyer.
Buy what you got. But let's start off without the
NFL because it's somewhat breaking news is Jamal Charles has
found a home Doug Bronco, signing the former Chiefs running
(01:53:49):
back to a one year deal where three point seven
five million dollars. Mm hmm. Don't love had a had
a knee knee injury that didn't heal for surgery. I
had to go back in and get it fixed last year.
Don't love man? Is he productive? He won me to
Fantasy League championship to How about staying within the division.
(01:54:13):
Leading rusher goes to Denver? Yeah, I don't you know.
Guys switch au teams, guys don't really matter. Uh, that's
backup running back money. The question is always back up
in third string running backs when their former stars. Usually
that's you gotta play special teams, you gotta do other things.
He doesn't do that. He's very very effective. I think
this has taking a flyer on him. I wonder how
much of that's guaranteed. I don't know, boy, I'll root
(01:54:37):
it for him. I'm hoping for the best, expecting expecting
one of those big name veteran running backs who have
signed elsewhere. Adrian Peterson's the Jamal Charles or somebody else's
signed elsewhere as well. I'm expecting them to not do well.
John ramas is Au team was called Lava Angelus Um.
The Vertical reports LaVar Ball wants his big Baller brand

Adidas and am already passed on the shoe and he
already knows how much he wants to shoot as I
am stunned that nobody wants to do business with this guy. Stunned,
baby two hundred bucks? Interesting, um, let's move on. Penguins
(01:55:20):
captain Sidney Cross me not gonna play in Game four
of their series against the Capitals because of a concussion
cross check last night in Game three. Remains a concussion protocol.
Was that that what it wasn't a purposeful cross He
was falling down. It was like he fell into the stick,
wasn't it? And it's especially scary because of his concussion background.
Uh at the stinks, It just stinks. It's marred his spectacular,
(01:55:42):
otherwise spectacular career. Yeah, and with his history, who knows
if he's gonna come back in the series or even
at the in these playoffs as he remains as I
mentioned in concussion protocol, how about this the Boston Red
Sox issue an apology to orielsullfielder Adam Jones after Jones
said he received racist taunts and had a bag of
peanuts throwing at him during last night's him at Fenway.
Doug quickly Jones earlier today, they don't have a place
(01:56:04):
in the game. I mean, I thought we'd we've moved
past that a long time ago. But obviously, with what's
going on in the you know, in the real world,
it's unfortunate that I had to be involved with him.
I just don't know how anybody considers themselves a human being,
let alone a fan of a supports team yelling things
out like that to anybody, I guess my my biggest
(01:56:24):
question be what did the people if this was really
said to him, what do people around him do? Yeah? Right,
like when the people, Like when I hear people cursing
him out a baseball game, like, yo, what are you doing?
I can't imagine if you heard racial epithets. I mean,
if you were, if you were to be a Red
Sox player and you knew this was going on during
the game, stop playing. Yeah, I mean, look, Boston has
(01:56:48):
a bad reputation, but there's a reason it has a
bad reputation from Celtics, days from Patriots, days from red size,
say you got a chance to get one more in
um quickly. Tom McDonald's friend Roy Regal, who was a plumber,
passed away about ten years ago. McDonald is now going
across the country flushing his friends remains away down toilets
of at various ballparks throughout Major League Baseball. Has hit

sixteen of them so far. So his buddy wanted his
ashes um down the drain of ballparks, and his buddies.
Following through with that wish, she went on on the
field at the ballparks. I don't really went on the
field too much of a drain. Ah, oh, Dan Buyer
with the press get out there and pressed that was
the press. Yeah, I don't know, but I'm not really
that the I'd like my parts donated, you know, like
(01:57:34):
I gave use them anymore like you can have them.
You have them. My liver is actually a lot better
than a lot of your guys liver. That's for sure.
That is absolutely for sure. But I don't know if
I about down the toilet like, yeah, it's not really
not really what I'm looking for. Dori Jackson's gonna join
us tomorrow, so to his Rick Buker. Stay tuned for
