Speaker 2 (00:16):
Cap pass Talk.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
You are listening to the longest running afternoon radio show.
And we're old enough to remember.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Back in two ty sixteen when it was last game
Chevin in the NBA Finals. I remember it like it
was yesterday. Lebron James was magnificent. Show too. Is Kyrie
Irvy welcome in?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
You know? I think there's I you know, like I
have friends who are like, hey, find the dub of
the day.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
You know, you have a bad day, Find the win
of the day.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
I think my win of the sports calendar, because really,
what happens after Sunday, that's the flipping of the sports calendar, right,
NBA Draft is next Tuesday, Cooper Flag, couple others, but
not really a huge but after that we kind of
flipped the sports calendar.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Some people say it's when you get to Baseball All
Star Break, right, then that's why we have SP's because
it used to be the dead day, but it feels
like that's the And my biggest win is also probably
jay Stu's biggest win, right, jay Stu has us all
kind of an agreement that, you know, the NFL. I
(01:39):
don't know if it's the level of Zuopa the U
two album that was a wall.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Wall, but.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
His win is getting us more over to the side of,
you know, quality of play in the NFL not great,
and my win is the opposite for basketball, which is
despite the fact the ratings will be down, it's been
a fun series to watch and it's it's always interesting
on when now this is the influx of politics and
(02:10):
the political siding and that you can't be in the
middle or you can't agree with the other side on anything,
because you'll have people that I'm not watching, they don't
play hard, the playoffs last too long.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
There's just isoball, there's no defense.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
There's this is that like you pick apart every little thing,
and then you actually watch this series and both teams
play fast. Indiana better at playing fast last night. You
have guys that come off the bench and some of
their stars that play incredibly hard. The level of skill
is tremendous. And yeah, there are some foreign born players
(02:53):
like Shay Gildess Alexander just to name one, but there
are also some stars like Terrese Halburton who are born.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
And so if your argument was.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Like, ah, foreign players like you can come up with
anything you don't like about something, and usually it's kind
of stacked behind the obvious thing, which is some of
the players were politically active or have been politically active
during these very strange political times. But my win of
(03:23):
the year is getting Jay stew to watch and go,
you know, kind of good hoop. Speaking of which I
thought Tyres Alburton was outstanding. He was aggressive, he made
big shots. Here's what Alberton said about playing with a
bad calf.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
It's the finals.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
I you know, all of us got.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
To get everything we have.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
You know, do you have everything I have for this
group in this locker room.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
So just trying to come.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Out here and by the best of my ability, my
guys have had my back all year and especially tonight,
and that means.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
The world to me.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
It's okay, it's okay, I got a couple, got a
couple of days now to take care of it, get
it right and be ready. You know, we got one game,
you know, all cards on the table. It's gonna be
a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
He also did you hear the line? And I thought
it was almost speaking directly to either my daughter Harper
or to Jay Stu that when he's at home, it's
before he throws on love love actually I'm not not love. Actually,
before he throws on Love Island, he's got to throw
some ice on the cap.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Did you hear that one Jay Stu? On television?
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I saw a reference to Love Island. Yeah, so that's
that's what he was talking about. What he watches it
all the time, and he was he was nursing his
calf while you watched it.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yes, or you know, I'm and him his girlfriend are
you know they watched It's it's a uh like guilty
pleasure watch.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
So that what that what it is?
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, that one's off my radar. I've been it's actually
actually been recommended to me that I watch it. But
I'm just I'm so dedicated to Bachelor and Bachelor in
Paradise first week of July starts up. For those wondering, ooh.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Ooh, that is an absolute poop show. Usually, right, I mean, really.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
It might be the best of the franchise.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
You know, it's amazing, Yeah, because it is.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
It is an abject disaster, but it's it doesn't it's not.
It's one of those no one even by Bachelor standards.
Everyone knows it's it's going to be a disaster, right, everyone, everyone, everyone,
everyone knows. And because of it, you know, because of it,
(05:29):
you can't take it seriously. You don't have to take
it seriously. It's a very light watch. I would say
Love Island a similar type of watch for you. I
think different producers. Obviously, you have to find the different people.
Whereas the thing that you find with The Bachelor in
Paradise is you know these people from your years following
and podcasting about The Bachelor, and we let us not
get sidetracked. The point is okay that I mean, I
(05:54):
don't know how you can't love Halliburton, right, And I
almost like him more because he was so bad in
Game five and he's been so good at other times,
the game winner in game game one, the performance last night,
a couple of fast breaks, off steals and passes.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
That he made were outstanding.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
It's almost like if you hated the invincibility of Lebron
and some of these other guys, right because Lebron at
the end of the day. I mean, you go back
to some of the NBA Finals, you know, subsequent years
where you know, they lost to Kevin Durant and the
Golden State Warriors, like Lebron would put up gargantuan numbers,
(06:33):
and so even though I don't think Lebron played great
in the fourth quarter of those games, it was really
hard to argue with those numbers. So it seemed like,
you know, he's just he's that immovable object and irresistible force. Anyway,
point being, Haliburton seems very human, which is again all
new to us that we don't usually have this, Like
(06:54):
Leverry Bird didn't have games where he couldn't make a
bucket in the NBA Finals. Not that I'm comparing, I
kind of did compare Tyres Albert and to Larry Bird.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Here's his head coach.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
On Actually, let's go to Mark Dagnell mcdarkno is the
head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder. His team who
usually turns others over turn the ball over a ton.
Last night, here's the coach on his team.
Speaker 7 (07:16):
It was hard tonight. You know, Indiana was great and
we were not. So we have the same opportunity Indiana
does on Sunday, scorell by zero zero when the ball
goes up in the air. It's a privilege to play
in Game sevens it's a privilege to play in the finals.
As disappointing as tonight was, we're grateful for the opportunity
and we put in a lot of work this season
(07:37):
to be able to play that game at home, you know,
which is exciting to be able to do it in
front of our fans. So, you know, obviously disappointed tonight,
but we'll regroup, get back to zero, learn from it
with clear eyes like we always do, get ourselves as
ready as we can be to play Game seven on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Stut Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Trader. That's Mark dagno Is,
the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Here's the
Star Shay Gildas, Alexander the MVP this year's NBA season,
talking about how Game seven against the Nuggets, Humble Bragg
was there and that blowout went over the Nuggets prepares
them for Game seven Sunday night.
Speaker 8 (08:12):
Fee in the back of our minds for sure. Now,
we didn't play like it at all, and that's why
the night went the way it did. We got exactly
what we deserved, what we earned, and we have to
own that. The way, like the way we felt in
that series was it's a three to three series zero zero.
You have one game to advance and the better team
(08:32):
will win. And I think it's the exact same thing
is you try to learn from and you try to
put it all together for one night and see where
it takes you.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Stut Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Tray. That's shake, gildasag Xander.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Here's my honest thought, buyer. This is this is as
honest as I can be. You ever have somebody Dan
who says I'm a huge sports fan. Oh you work
Fox Sports right, listen all the time. What do you
do there? Like I've been there for how many years?
You've been a Fox Sports radio da? Yeah, I'll get you.
(09:09):
I remember when I was working at CBS doing the tournament. Oh,
huge college basketball fan?
Speaker 2 (09:15):
It's what do you do? Right?
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Yes, you'll have if if you tell people I'm a
big sports fan.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Hey you watching Game seven?
Speaker 9 (09:25):
Nah?
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Now a huge sports fan, right, I mean, isn't that?
Are we okay? I yes, I'm okay shaming people who
claim to be sports fans. And you have two teams
they don't carry the If you don't like the ego
of the Lebron, the ego of the KD the iso
(09:47):
of old school basketball, you're like, you know, I like,
I like tame ball better. I just they don't play
D like. If you don't like alis like, just watch
the series. But regardless of which, it's one game and
decides who's a champion. The crowds have been incredible in
the crowd of Oklahoma City. You know, it's loud city. It's
(10:08):
it's a remarkable watch. You don't have to know anything
about anything. It's Game seven NBA Finals on a Sunday night.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
What are you doing? Right?
Speaker 1 (10:15):
You come in off the lake you're watching? I just
are you okay with me? I don't care if you
I mean, I don't. I'm not going to change my opinion.
But would you share with me in the opinion that
it's a completely phony to say, huge sports fan, you
don't watch Game seven?
Speaker 6 (10:29):
Nah?
Speaker 10 (10:31):
Well yeah, yeah, absolutely, And I do think that there
is there is a parallel with people who don't want
to do something, They don't want to go to an event,
and they'll have four or five different excuses on why
they don't want to go to the event and why
they can't make it, and the reason is usually just
one reason. And I feel that's the same way with
(10:53):
the NBA. Where my problem, and because I've complained about
the NBA as well, Doug here of the regular season
is that so much is made about the playoffs in championships.
So that's what to me diminishes the regular season. And
I feel I'd be a you know, a hypocrite if
I wasn't invested into the playoffs some and invested into
(11:15):
the NBA Finals and obviously invested into Game seven. Now,
I mean, I have a dog in the fight on Sunday. However,
I feel like if you just weren't gonna watch, you
weren't gonna watch anyway.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
And then you're just broadcasting and brag. But okay, so
people who don't, they'll always people. You know, I like
the NCAA tournament better won and done. Well, that's what
you have. You literally have that it's one game. You
don't have to invest in the rest of it, right,
just one game one game, I just think it exposes
people as as phonies.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
I just I hate the Like a huge sports fan,
I'm a big sports fan. What do you do? Ah? Uh?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
And again, this series has given you a little bit
of everything.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
You had the unbelievable comeback and win in game one,
the uh snooze fest in game two, you had the
really surprising also.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Comeback and win for Indiana.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
In game three, to come back and win for Oklahoma
City Game four, the once again dominance at home, and
you know, and Tyres Halbert looked like dude cut off
the leg shut him down in Game five, and then
the Pacers know, you know, it's the old eighty six
Bears weren't beating them. The you know, the showtime Lakers
(12:36):
weren't beaten, weren't beating the Pacers last night. They just weren't.
They looked amazing, the defense, the transition, the athleticism, the
three point shooting.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
It was, it was.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
It was really fun. It's giving you a little bit
of everything. And again, I'm not a Pacer fan. I
love the Thunder just because my time in Oklahoma and
I do know people in both organizations, but that's not
it's about it's this is just about We talked about
cliches earlier this earlier this week, and we talked about
him something last week, and you talked, you know, don't
use a cliche. But there is a reason that that
(13:08):
statements become cliche. They are overused. But oftentimes they're overused
because there's a ton of truth to them, and the
ton of truth to the NBA Finals in Game seven
on a Sunday. And we're not a rights holder, okay,
And I'm gonna be completely honest with you. We never
talked about the Indiana Pacers on this show. For I
(13:31):
don't think outside of the Malice at the Palace, I
don't think I've ever had a segment talking about the
Indiana Pacers ever.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
I haven't known this a long time.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
And it's not out of hatred or I don't like you,
like nothing, It's just what was the point I do
national Radio, we talked about the biggest topics today. They
were outside of the mouse of the Palace. That was
the last time they were the topic of the day.
And yet I'm just gonna tell you the cliche is true.
It's kind of what it's all about. What it's all
(14:02):
about it's what all of the pushback to Lebron's statements
of you know it, he's not all about the rings, like, well, what.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Do you play for?
Speaker 5 (14:12):
What?
Speaker 2 (14:12):
This is what you play for, This is.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
What you dream of, This is what any kid who's
ever dribbled a basketball and Dan I remember a couple
of years ago went to Mylin High School, which is
really famed Hickory, and uh.
Speaker 10 (14:27):
It was the yeah, who's your gymnstown Indiana?
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Right?
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Okay, but it's the anyone who's ever picked up a
basketball and shot in their driveway or shot in an
empty gym has done either NCAA tournament, high school championship,
NBA Finals game in line game seven, ball goes in,
you're the greatest, ball goes ball goes around and out
and you're a complete dope. So yeah, I mean my
(14:55):
win for the year is getting Jay Studigo.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
You know, I don't want to say this out.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Loud, but NBA playoffs without Lebron and Steph and Katie,
it's been kind of good to watch. I just like
me coming around to his You know, the NFL can
be a bit of a rough watch. Now, look, it's
never going to affect the NFL's ratings because people bet
on it, they're so invested in it, and I'm not
chasing ratings. I don't care if the NBA rates, I
(15:23):
really don't doesn't affect me or our business or anything.
All I'm telling you is, don't come at me with
a huge sports fan. Got love your takes, but you
know I'm a big sports Bob'm not watching game seven.
Why don't say you're a big sports fan when you
have something a sport that is absolutely one of the
three biggest in the United States, easily one of the
two biggest. One game, likable teams, Likable Watch, Competitive Series
(15:49):
one team, by all accounts, didn't everybody ESPN pick them
to win? Like everybody picked them most of them in six?
It goes game seven, and it does feel like anybody's
ball games. Here's the cliche what it's all about. For
over forty years, Tyrak has been helping customers find the
right tires for how where they drive, ship fast and
free and back by free road as protection with convenient
(16:11):
installation options like mobile tire installation. Tyreq dot com the
way tire buying should be. And now it's time for
our Tyrek Play Today Care the Pacers Radio Network them
hartw with five to shoot, can't clear the shot up
top Siaka beats the shot clock and delivers a Freeman.
Speaker 10 (16:27):
Shop ready to fish it just waiting to receive that pass.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Just beautiful execution as a go well, you can hardly
ask for a better performance, particularly given the fact that
if you didn't play well, your season would have ended.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
MJB.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
This team just in case you didn't though, NBA Finals
Game seven and they still have an opportunity to win
a championship.
Speaker 8 (16:52):
How cool is that?
Speaker 6 (16:53):
Be Sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Jay Stew Chris Proffett back in studio along with our
guy Dan Byer. Hear from him in a moment, let
me play some for you here before Mark Dominic joins
us So Short Sanders in the news. I even heard
(17:26):
it obviously during the break. I don't know what your
brakes lest sound like, but all of our shows have
been talking about the the speeding ticket that he got
going over one hundred and in a sixty.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
And again it's dumb.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
It's dumb, but you know, you get you get one,
you go all you're running late and as I said yesterday,
like hey, I'm I got a lead foot.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
I've struggled.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Honestly, the biggest adjustment I have had in moving to
Wisconsin because it buyer can attest to this. In Green Bay,
everything is fourteen minutes max.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Away.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
You get from one side of town the other side
of town, anytime of day fourteen minutes away. It's remarkable,
like how long is they they get there fourteen minutes.
If it takes more than fourteen minutes, you start kind
of breaking out in hives. But with that, you may
have somebody in front of you that drives like you know,
Morgan Freeman and driving Miss Daisy, super super super slow
(18:29):
and it's hard. So I've gotten speeding tickets. I've gotten
frustrated before. I've everybody knows I've run late before. But
once you get over ninety, you're like, yeah, you're not
getting a lot of sympathy. Good over one hundred and
now you look like an idiot. Oh yeah, by the way,
apparently there's a second Jase too, there's a second speeding
(18:49):
ticket over one hundred miles an.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
Hour, not over one hundred. I think it was a
ninety five.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yeah, So like if you get pulled over going ninety
five and then you get pulled over going one oh one,
and like now we're like.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Not getting it. Message is not getting through.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Here's Shador when he was asked about the speeding incidents
at a charity event.
Speaker 8 (19:08):
Amade some wrong choices personally, and I got hold up
to him, not great choice, saying.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
That because he's an incredible person.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
I learn I learned from the real people.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yeah, well, if you learn from the ninety five, you
wouldn't get the one on one, you know, or at
least you give it like a couple of months. And
when you come in carrying the reputation of acting like
you're entitled, and then you act like you're entitled, what
what do you expect us to think?
Speaker 2 (19:44):
I know.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Shortly after the show, the show goes up in podcast form. Plus,
you know, we have the our podcast, our only podcast
version of the show. If you missed any today's show,
check out the podcast. Just search to Gottlieb whatever your
podcast and follow, rate review the podcast.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
Again.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Just search to got let me get your podcast.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
So it's as has been described for many people, it's
not one thing, it's a thousand little things. It's ill
death by a thousand cuts, if you will. And when
you're trying to show people that no, I'm not entitled,
No I'm not arrogant. No I'm just I'm just a
(20:25):
guy trying.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
To play quarterback. I'm just a kid from.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Tough scrabble part of Dallas where my dad was a
Hall of Famer and he coached me at every level
of football. I'm just that's who I am. Mark Dominic
joins us. He's a former general manager of the Tampay Buccaneers.
Over twenty years in NFL for offices or scouting. When
you're a GM and a guy gets a three digit
(20:50):
speeding ticket, right, what happens? What's the What would you
do when you were in Tampa and something like this
would happen?
Speaker 9 (20:59):
Yeah, I mean number one, I do. This is the
one where I do talk to the kid, and I
do bring him in the office and do ask him
what's going on. And at the same point, I've got
the article sitting on a desk on Rachid Rice, I've
got my article on Henry Ruggs sitting on the desk,
if I want you to read these in front of
me for me and just make sure that they you're
taking in exactly what you are doing to yourself and
(21:19):
what could happen to you, I mean, what should do
or in his position. It doesn't make it right when
receivers speed versus quarterbacks. No, it's not better for either
one of them. But to your point, Doug, and to
the quarterbacks, what was the last time you remember having
a quarterback go one hundred? Maybe you know was a
cam might have maybe done something like that, but it
just doesn't happen much. You know, they don't. You don't
put yourself out there like that if you're going to
(21:40):
you know, you're playing a position that's a leader, and
when you make mistakes like this, you're not showing leadership
as good as a camping pad. So I think you
just got to be straight to the point with him.
And in Tampa we had a thing called the Hall
of Fame, and the Hall of Shame two boards down
the hallway. And hall of Fame was obviously you know,
guys that are doing things well in the community, and
it didn't have to be buckingy that could have been
Steelers or Falcons or whoever. And then the Hall of
(22:03):
Shame where guys that were making terrible decisions or bad mistakes.
To help these guys, remember, you got a side which
all you're trying to get to, And that was I
think a very helpful thing we had in Tampa.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Stet got lib show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
What do you think happens.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
With with with the Browns with the reps once they
get an actual training camp.
Speaker 9 (22:24):
My gut instinct is, you know, I would sit there
and I would be pulling reps away from Joe Flacco
because he might be the two thousand and twenty five
most ready quarterback, but he's not the twenty twenty six
or twenty twenty seven quarterback. And you've got to figure
out in that room, with that many different arms, who
does the reps belong to and who's really taking charge
of the offense. And so I think you've got to
(22:44):
give to the three young guys and you got to
pull back on Joe. But if Joe's the week one starter, great,
you know, no problem whatsoever? You know, and to me,
you know, as good a story was a couple of
years ago, you know, watching some Colts tape again just
even this last week go you give some balls up
and more and more as he continues to throw. So
(23:05):
I think you limit Joe Flacco. I think you give
the reps to the rookies, maybe to Kenny Pickett also,
And you already have in your mind as you walk
out of the off season program in the veteran mini camp,
you kind of already got them stacked a little bit
in terms of where they are mentally and physically. And
so you're you should already getting with your head coach
and talking with your offensive corner, like how you're going
to address the snaps and that should be something that's
(23:26):
already figured out before you can get the camp.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
That that that's the voice of Mark Dominic, who joins us,
of course, former general manager Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is
the Doug out Lib Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Aaron Rodgers and actually that the Rams have admitted that
there was interest there if if they made a move
at quarterback. I guess I ask about Rogers and the Rams.
(23:51):
Now being a Steeler, what do you think of the
fit with the Steelers and with their play caller?
Speaker 9 (23:58):
I think it'll be good. You know, I thought a
long time ago. I think we talked about it thout
Aaron Rodgers. He ended this somewhere else that could be
the Rams, And you know, I'm not surprised. I just
knew that the West Coast thing was real. He fit
with the Steelers and coordinators and what they're going to do.
I think you've got to adjust your game a little bit,
but I think it's gonna be fine. Aaron's got a
lot to prove now. You know, he's not coming back
because of the money. I think he's finally coming back
(24:20):
because hey, you know, I got to prove that I
still have it. And I think that that's a good
ship that's on his shoulder that you know, the Jets
was a disaster for him obviously for everybody, but yet
he still feels like he can, you know, help a
team get over the hump, and the Steelers, certainly a
team that's been there. They just can't get over the hump.
And so I don't think it's gonna be a bad
fit at all. I think it's going to work out
fairly well for the Steelers in a division where with
(24:42):
Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow. I mean, it's it's brutal,
and so, you know, I think it gives them a
chance to be competitive against those clubs, even though it's
hard to imagine Steelers getting out of third place in
that division.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Henry Ruggs formally kind of apologized to the Tinder family.
Of course, Tina Tincher and her dog Max were killed
in this terrible accident early in the morning in was
in May of twenty three. Right, he was drunk, He
was driving one hundred and fifty six miles an hour.
(25:17):
If you're a gentleman tr what do you have to see?
What do you have to know in order to give
him a shot?
Speaker 9 (25:24):
Yeah, I got to spend time with Andry Ruggs prior
to the draft. I did a lot of interview prep
with him and got to get just to know him.
And you know, a huge decision, a huge mistake, a
huge tragedy. You know, I still think that there's a
chance on the other side of this that there's something
that good comes out of it. And I think that
based off the words he used the other day and
(25:46):
having time to spend around him and possibly spend some
more time around him certainly would lean towards Nick Saban
and talking to coach Saban a little bit because he
spent more time with Henry Rugs than prime most of
us did, or any of us did, and making sure
that what I thought I knew is to THELA guy
that I think we're going to he's going to be
and you know, I think I would be willing to
let him play again. I mean, we've let Leonard little
(26:08):
Along kind of though, who had a dui and kill
the lady. He came back in the league and played,
so it's not new. Uh, you know, it's more about
like what he's saying and that he certainly feels saddened
and disappointed in his actions and asking for forgiveness, and
I think it's something that I would grant, you know what.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
So can I give you my my side to it,
because it's interesting. You know last year when I got
the job, I kind of laugh about it now when
I said, hey, we had two choices, freshman's or felons, right,
and we did. We I took a player who had
a felony, and we recruited others that had a litany
(26:49):
of cases at some point in their life against them.
And my number one rule Mark was this, can't lie
to me, tell me what happened, and then tell me
what you've done since to make me feel and make
my bosses feel comfortable that there's no chance of it
(27:11):
ever happening again. And I only took one, and the
logic behind it was simple, Like you know, it would
have been hard to push through someone else with a
record like that, but one not it ha'd be no
non violent right, I'm not violent towards women, violence in general,
gun stuff like I'm out, I'm just out. But but
(27:36):
my rule is you just can't lie to me. Just
tell me what happened, because what happens is if I'm
gonna go to bat for you, I can't go and
say this is what happened and like, yeah, actually that's
not what happened. And do you have anything other I mean, again,
Henry Ruggs, you have a personal relationship with on some
(27:56):
level from having really dug in deep with him. But
what do you think of that as the Hey, here's
the bar. Can't lie to me? And then you know,
then I would go into what's your support system? Who's
going to continue to support you when you come here?
What's what's your home environment? Who you're going to be
living with. You know, if we have this baggage, you
(28:18):
can't smoke, can't drink. Sorry, doesn't mean you can't be
any human being, but those things are out. But that's
that's how I went about it. Do you think that's
a fair way to look at it.
Speaker 9 (28:26):
I think it's a very fair way to look at it.
And I think the lie part is a big piece
of it, because you know, to get to the point
of even bringing Henry Rugs and you've got to explain
it to ownership and you can't even have a chance
of slipping up on a detail in that situation, because
it is an organizational decision. It's not just a GM's
decision or a coach's decision. It's a we're going to
you know, because we're going to be the ones all
standing in that press conference having to explain why we
(28:47):
came to this. So if you know the full truth
and nothing but the truth, it's certainly a lot easier
for you to be able to stand up there with
confidence and say this is what I do know happened,
and this is what I knew is going to this
is what's going forward, and you would clear always say look,
it's on one strike policy. Like, I don't think it's
going to happen he or we wouldn't bring him in,
but he's certainly very aware that it's one strike away
from you know, it's all gone and so and if
(29:09):
he crosses that line then then we'll cross him off
the list. I mean, it's just that simple. But at
the same point, I think you're a spot on in
that because I do think as long as you know
what's going on, there is I mean, people make mistakes
and terrible ones, and obviously this was a life and
death decision, but you know, it still doesn't mean that
you still can't find the right side of something in
(29:30):
this kind of tragedy.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Jay Yr Alexander just could stay healthy with the Packers.
What do you think of the fit.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
With the Ravens.
Speaker 9 (29:38):
Well, he's a great player. I mean the problem is
exactly what you just said. And I think the Packers
know that too. They're like, look, he's a good football player,
we just can't keep them on the football field. And
we see this from time to time. I think people
just kind of forget, like, you know, how much you
as a general manager you have to kind of like
weigh in injuries into when you see flashes of like, Okay,
this guy can be a perimeter, shut down corner. I
(30:00):
think it's a great fit for the raven To think
Marlon Humphrey said it best, you can't have enough good corners.
I agree with that, just like in this game with
Hamsters and the Ravens are this weird team as we've
seen before, sometimes as they get an injury, it just
seems to hit that position group NonStop, and so I
think they're in really good spot. I think it's a
good fit for Gire. I think it's a great defense
and I think he's going to fit in the well.
(30:21):
But again, his ability is availability when he's on the
football field and he's one hundred percent. He's a very
very talented corner.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Game seven Sunday, Will you watch?
Speaker 9 (30:33):
Yeah, I will watch. I couldn't believe last night. I
was just kind of like I kept waiting for something
that rally. Not that I'm rooting for harder for Oklahoma
City or anything like that, but it was just like
that was impressive performance. I mean, Indiana came out just
they came out on fire and just played great defense
and shot the ball off the chain and you know
(30:53):
they could never make a run. So yeah, I mean
three to three. You know, I don't follow a lot
of NBA basketball. I follow all the playoffs basketball in
a great series to watch you go back and forth,
and you know it's going to be fun to watch.
I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I asked, because my whole thing, my whole premise was like, hey,
don't tell me your sports fan. And you're like, I'm
not going to watch Game seven, Like stop it, all right, right,
this is a great series. One game. Both teams play
a fun style, right, It's it's not in the seventies.
It's in the one tens, one to twenties, maybe one thirties.
As you as you point out, you don't have to
have any dog in the fight. It's it's just it's
(31:26):
great athletic competition. Hey, Mark, you have yourself a great
holiday weekend and uh, I mean, excuse me, summer weekend.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 9 (31:34):
Seeah, I talk to you next week.
Speaker 6 (31:35):
You're the best of Be sure to catch the live
edition of the Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm
Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Doug Gotlib Show, Fox Sports Radio, Dodgers Padres got heated
last night, seven hundred million dollar man got plunked. Plus
you'll never guess who stole the show at the Pacers
post game, And uh yeah, Dad, of the no question.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
We'll get to that next hour.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Before we do, let's go to dan Byer and get
a game.
Speaker 6 (32:09):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 10 (32:15):
All right, Doug, the game today is I got DIBs.
I got DIBs. A couple of topics that we throw
out and basically you just got to grab your DIBs
on it. Starting out topic number one, on the heels
of the four Nations face off, outrating the Stanley Cup Final,
on the heels of the WNBA voting that's taking place,
(32:39):
and on the heels of Major League Baseball's All Star
Game that is coming upon us favorite All Star game.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Starting now, Get DIBs on hockey.
Speaker 10 (32:50):
Oh that was quick. I thought that could be the case.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
It's kind of easy. It was the only watchable one
and all.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Yes, yes, much of that All Star Game. And I've
been trying to compartmentalize that because the NBA is trying
to capture the magic international magic next year, I want
to say that maybe this year was a one off,
coming off attention of the election and everything else. It
just seemed like this was captured on the ice for
(33:24):
one year and then next year it won't be as exciting.
Speaker 11 (33:27):
I think. I think you're echoing something I've seen from
hockey fans, because the fear is that the NHL, much
like outdoor games, will take this look at this and
try to run it every year and just run it
into the ground rather than have a nice like once
every other year.
Speaker 10 (33:40):
I will I will disagree. I actually think that while
I was cheering for a Canadian city to win the
Stanley Cup, happened to be Edmundson because they were the
last one standing. I still will cheer for USA over
Canada every day of the week. Yeah, because of what
I think. That's that this is Canada's sport. So if
(34:02):
we as Americans can then beat them at that sport,
I think people go in and watch that and.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
It's a rivalry.
Speaker 11 (34:09):
Another contest too, the Olympics and World Hot.
Speaker 10 (34:12):
Correct and it will be a part of the Olympics. Yes,
you know the pros in coming up in February in Italy.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
So I'm a buyer on this one.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
I don't think this is a one off, but I do.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
I think that it probably hit its peak.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Sure, but yeah, I mean part of it is, you know,
we're not the bully in hockey.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
We're not, but we were the bully on the world
stage when the presidents calling them their fifty fourth state
and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
That helped. That helped.
Speaker 10 (34:42):
Yeah, but I do remember back to twenty ten in
the you know, the gold medal game in Vancouver and
the drama with that. Anyway, moving on, all right, guys,
favorite mascot that doesn't end.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
In s I got DIBs on fanatic.
Speaker 10 (34:59):
What team is saying?
Speaker 11 (35:00):
Philly fanatic?
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Philly?
Speaker 10 (35:01):
You know what? You know what this is? This is
too literal, This is a this is a damn mistaken
it is. I meant nickname because I was going to
take white sox, because I don't think you will think.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
That's what I just said.
Speaker 9 (35:19):
Chris, I said it was my mistake.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
I should have said nickname.
Speaker 10 (35:22):
I don't need your rubbing it in my face. I
go with white socks and at the so so here's where.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Let me just tell you where I land. I understand
you both right. I knew it, Dan Man, I knew
what he was what he said, literally pretty.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
And I was like, I was confused.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
I was like, uh, I just let somebody else get
I thought.
Speaker 11 (35:47):
I kept thinking of like pause and oh god, rubble, rubble, rubble.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
I'm like, I was like, does he rubble.
Speaker 10 (35:58):
All sing?
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Alert? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (36:00):
I got the DIBs on Red Sox, but it was
one A was the San Diego chicken.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
All right quickly.
Speaker 10 (36:09):
Sammy Selsa is back at Wrigley today for the first
time in twenty years. Most memorable steroid home run hitter.
Speaker 11 (36:17):
I got dibson with wire.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
I got DIBs on Sammy because Sammy was a platoon player,
but people loved him. First day of my honeymoon, we
went to Chicago, Sammy ran out. It was like it
was like Jackie Robinson right.
Speaker 11 (36:33):
Now, that home run race is the defining moment of
me as a child with baseball.
Speaker 10 (36:39):
I'll take Brady Anderson.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
He did it because he ate fruit loops.
Speaker 10 (36:45):
It was fruit loops and that's game time.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
It's pretty impressive. I'm hold enough to remember fruit loops.
Doug Gotlieb show here at Fox Sports Radio. Guess who
stole the show last night.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
That's next
