as we go or as we see fit for the
people we like in the decisions they make, and if
we like them and if we don't like them. We

(00:24):
got a ton to talk about. We might know we

(00:46):
right now on our Facebook page. We got so much
to get to. Rick Berry is gonna join us. We will,
in fact get into the verbal kerfuffle that he had
with Rob Parker on Fox Sports Radio over the week end,
and we'll talk about this Warrior's team and how sustainable, uh,
this championship run can in fact be I mean it's

(01:07):
Vegas has them as a two to one favor to
win next year already and there are some unsigned players
and some unforeseen pitfalls that of course fall on championship teams.
Let me first get into last night as I saw
the basketball game. I want to talk about narratives and
how they don't actually necessarily fit the game. You'll hear
from KD. You'll hear from Tyler, who said something very

(01:29):
interesting about just how big a gap there is between
the two teams. I think you're going to learn a
lot about the type of people Draymond, Kevin Durant, Steph
Curry really really are. And it fascinates me how we
look at them, how we judge them based upon maybe

(01:50):
if they celebrate or if they leave your favorite team.
Last night was a spectacular basketball game. There's no other way.
It was played at an exceptionally high level. And the
adjustments that the Cleveland Cavaliers made. They continue to try
to be physical. Some of that was mitigated by the officiating,
some of it was not. They really tried to pressure

(02:11):
Steph Curry. A lot of that helped them early on.
They tried to pressure and they tried to expose the
lack of rebounding from Golden State, and that in fact worked.
It was one of those games to which you thought
there would be one final great push from the Calves
and it just didn't come. They never really recovered from
the two to four run in which Tyrone Lou did

(02:33):
not call time out. Kevin Durant was spectacular, so too
was Lebron. James k d ends up with thirty nine.
I would point out Lebron didn't have some defensive missteps
in important parts late in the game. I thought Draymond
played his role to a t. He scored just enough points,
hit just enough shots, but also cleared the way for

(02:53):
Steph Curry, who who found some new found grit and
toughness to drive to the whole, get to the foul
line and get layups when his three pointers weren't falling.
But to me, the there's there's an elephant in the
room between the Calves and the Warriors and what the
Calves are actually missing and the likely change that probably

(03:16):
has to be made. We'll we'll get to that in
a moment. First, let's hear from a couple of the players.
This is Kevin Durant who was talking it's his first
championship and everybody thinks they know how they'll react, right,
like you think you'll know how you react when you
first get a scholarship. You think you'll know how to
react when you win a big game in college, win

(03:38):
a big game in high school, or it's senior day
or your prom, or you get married. You know, like,
how many guys like I'm gonna cry when I get married.
Then you're standing there and you're down the aisle, you
see your see your bride, and you're like, I can't
hold it in, right. How would Kevin Durant react to
winning his first NBA title? Here's him taking taking us

(03:59):
through it. Yeah, it was fifty five seconds left and
I went over to half court line. I've been down.
I was like, is this really happening? Andrey was like
keep playing in Andreda was like keep playing. We got
fifty seconds left. And I'm like, bro, we about to
win the title. And you know, I just tried to
stay in a moment. What's fascinating to be about Kevin Durant. Look,

(04:20):
I was as surprised as anybody that he left Oklahoma
City for Golden State because I did think they were
this close. I do think there is something to having
the sweat equity with Oklahoma City, with taking that entire city, hell,
that entire state, Like, look, that's a state that's always
been divided between Oklahoma Oklahoma State. And because of the
pro sports franchise, they mixed the colors, they mixed the

(04:42):
fan bases, and it was kind of a thing of
beauty and that like it was his team, that was
his town, that it was his state. He ran for governor,
he would have won, and they were this close. He
didn't play well games six, they lose Game seven, being
up three games one. We hadn't seen that before, but
he had told us the whole time, like, hey, it's
a basketball decision, And I mean, can you really argue

(05:04):
with the basketball decision that he made. There's there's only
two possibilities here. Either Kevin Durant was in fact this
good only he's getting to show us he's that good,
or he's gotten better and the talent that's around him
has allowed him to get better. But either way, you
could argue with me that Lebron was the best player,

(05:27):
uh in this in the finals, My argument would be, well,
his team didn't win, he wasn't better in the fourth quarter,
and a guy playing at the exact same position at him,
at the exact same time on the other team, team one,
and was better in the fourth quarter. So you can
argue with me otherwise. But if he was, even if
you thought he was one b you're talking about Lebron

(05:50):
James regarded as the greatest player in the world, and
Kevin Durant was every at least at minimum slightly less
likely A fair, uh, a fair depicture would be he
was at least his equal, if not better. So from
a basketball perspective, he went to a place to which

(06:11):
he looked or is in fact better. Then he made
the right decision, didn't he right? Didn't he? He also
took us kind of inside the fact that it wasn't
always easy this year. There were times in which they
struggled with do you go? Do I go? What do
you do? And he had the knee injury as well.

(06:32):
Here's what pulled him out of it. I had my
you know, lows in the season where I was beating
myself up, where I was struggling throughout the year. But
the great part about it is, you know, I'll get
a top on the hair from staff or Draymond or
you know. I can remember when we were in Sacramento
and we just lost the Memphis we gave up the league.
We were up twenty. Draymond put me to the side.

(06:53):
We were having dinner the next night in Sacramento and
he told me to beat myself, don't worry about anything,
just be you, keep working. Everything's gonna come around. And
to have teammates that encourage you, that lift you up.
That's what we all need in life, you know what
I mean? And and it was it was amazing. The
lesson here is not anything other than this oak. If

(07:18):
you can ever work at a place to which the
best version of yourself is what others try and draw
out of you, and where all your uh workplace colleagues,
all they say is be yourself. They're they're not telling
them to be anything. Just be yourself. That's enough for us.

(07:41):
Like that's all you look for in life. Like if
you want to have a happy marriage, you have to
find somebody who you can be real with, you can
be honest with, you can be yourself with, and they
accept you for it and they help you become the
best possible version of yourself. That's true in any workplace.
Like if you have to go in and be somebody
you're not, that is exhausting. Yeah, hiring that is I've

(08:05):
always thought that of people who are phonies, right, Like
there are people who live lives, lived those double lives
like Cat's gotta be exhausting. Remember what did I tell
this person? Which person was I to them? Do I
have to be nice? Like you could just whatever you're
raw motion or just be that that's good enough for us.
That's somewhere I want to work. That's somewhere I want
to play. Can I tell you the elephant in the room? Okay,

(08:29):
So the thing with how Golden State played, the reason
they won the game last night was because Andrea Goodala
had twenty points. He's there six man, but technically he's
really their starter, right, and he came in out the bench,
and yeah, he threw in a couple of jump shots,
but he was actually playing center. He's like playing around
the rim, or he's setting the pick and roll. He's
playing the four or playing the five. And so their

(08:52):
front line consists of Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Andrea
Guadala in most important times, and they to combat that is,
you have to be able to score inside and red
and dominate them on the boards inside and the Calves
could not do that in spite of the fact that
we're we were told prior to this series that they

(09:14):
had three stars, right, those stars of Lebron, James carry Irving,
and Kevin Love. There there's no argument for Kevin Love.
What Kevin Loves noticed, I'm not I never saw Kevin
Love as a superstar. I always agreed with Chris Bosh,
which is what everything Chris Bosh said, what happened has happened.
When Lebron loses, never Lebron's fault. Now, hey, you're gonna

(09:37):
be the third option. You're gonna have to play center,
and you're gonna have to stay out of the way,
and if you miss shots, it's it's on you. It's
never on Lebron, Like we have changed all the rules
for how people like, well, Lebron lost, but it's not
his fault. Wait, when did that ever happen? Historically before
to the victors have always gone the spoils. We've never
made excuses for teams at loss. We've always championed teammates

(10:02):
who make each other better and root for one another.
With the exception of Kevin Durant, we're so caught up
in he left via free agency when Lebron James left
via free agency. Lebron Jilne James left twice via free agency,
both for super teams and the answer to the only

(10:23):
thing that can change the the foreseeable outcome of a
matchup next year is one injuries to the Golden State Warriors,
but two a change with Kevin Love. Love has to
be able to score and dominate on the boards against
those lineups he was not. And take a listen to
Tyron Lou. I think the perception is, oh, the two

(10:45):
teams could not They're not close. Golden States way better.
That's not true. Cleveland shot to win last night, they
had a shot to win in Game three. They didn't.
Here's Tyron Loup. You know they beat us tonight. I don't.
I don't see a big gap. I thought we a
well and got better, you know each game, you know,
but against good teams, you can't, you know, give away
games like Game three at home and then expect to

(11:06):
come here and win in the hostile environment. So when
you have them beat, you have to beat them. You know,
you can't go back and forth or Tito on the fish.
You have to beat them. I thought our mindset was right.
You know, I thought we gave the right amount of
fight and the right amount of physicality, and now they
beat us tonight. Yeah, I would. I tend to agree.
Tristan was a no show the first two games. But
the big thing that killed this team was what the

(11:27):
hell were they doing in game three when they had
to lead and they started going ice so and stopped
moving the ball, and Lebron stopped attacking the rim and
they started setting for jump shots and they end up losing.
And Kevin Durant, by the way, like, if you want
to tell me, the narrative is that Lebron was better
in the one game that decided the series, Game three
on the road, Kevin Rant droobled up the floor and

(11:48):
knocked down a three right in the eye of Lebron James.
That decided the series. And the only thing that you
feel like could change the series outcome would be in
a husband to Kevin Love moving Kevin Love. I thought
it was fascinating. I thought it was good ball. I

(12:10):
end up becoming more and more of a Kevin Durant,
Steph Curry, even a Draymond Green fan, because if in
your life you can't root for other people to be successful.
That's a you problem, that's an insecurity within use. But
when they're on your team or within your company, or
they're your friend, that's you problem. And those guys root

(12:31):
for each other, lift each other up, make each other better,
and now our champions some for the second time in
three years. We'll get some of your thoughts. Eight seven

former NBA m v P Rick Barry joins us. What
was exposed with the Warriors the past couple of nights,

Eight seven seven six three six nine we will take

(13:34):
your phone calls up coming, Let's get to a former
NBA Finals m v PHO led the NBA in scoring
four time first Team All NBA player. Who's the one
and only opinionated former Warriors star? Rick Barry joins us
on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Rick, How are you hey? Rick?
So give me your sense of last night's game? What
to you was the biggest difference? Other Warriors played better

(13:57):
basketball than the Cavaliers in It really shown in the
in the second half when the Calves made a nice
run to get back into the game and make a
competitive where it was still anybody's game. And what happens
The Warriors get too uncontested shots because why because they
actually run plays where the defense has to make decisions.
They're coming off screens. There was a miscommunication and two
guys went to one guy and they got too easy

(14:19):
baskets at a critical time. How many times did you
see that happen with Cleveland? No, it doesn't have that often.
Why because Lebron's going one on one, Kyrie's going one
on one. They rarely play that type of basketball and
it hurts them. It did hurt them. I would also
I would also throw in that I felt like UM
as much as in the first half especially, and at

(14:41):
times in the second half, UM Cleveland was able to
pressure Golden State, they were able to try and out
rebound Golden State. I thought that that if anybody, Steph
Curry showed some more grit than he had previously. Like
there are times in the regular season where he gets
in lane and he gets those flip shots and he
gets layups, but he found a way to get to
the free to line to get some free shots. Draymond

(15:01):
kind of cleared out the lane form to get some
easier drives, Like Steph instead of just settling for contested
jump shots, got his nose bloody a couple of times,
and that kind of changed some of the aura around
Cleveland's defense, because you know, Rick, like, if somebody pressures you,
you can't simply settle for jump shots the whole time.
Steph didn't last night, and that's why he played so
much better from Game four to Game five. Is that fair? Yeah? Well,

(15:23):
certainly fair. He learned last year they they lost because
they just relied on the three point shot in Game seven,
and they didn't do that this time. They went to
the basket, which I don't know why they didn't do that.
And you know the end of Game seven last year,
they just were shooting three point shots the whole time
and you live and die with the three. And so
they had a more diversified offense, no question about that.
I agree with you that they got themselves in trouble

(15:44):
because they were giving up offensive rebounds and getting second
chance opportunities for for Cleveland, giving him a chance to
get back in it. But the reality of it is
is the Words are a better team. If both teams
played their best basketball game at the same time, the
Warriors are gonna win. Um, if you're the Calvs. What's
the one personnel adjustment that you make. They just they
have to get they have to get their players to

(16:06):
be more consistent so that they contribute on a regular basis.
The only game that they want was when the other
guys really contributed well and the other guys played well.
What would happened in this game. They got two guys
that or contributing all that well for most of the series,
and that was j R. And Thompson. They played really well.
In fact, that a word for those two guys. That
would have been another blowout because why because two of

(16:27):
the three really great players that they have didn't have
great games. Love has a subpar game and Kyrie didn't
have a great second half, and so because of that,
there was no chance in them winning that basketball game.
Am I wrong? No one saying that. Look, if they're
gonna play andre Iguadala, Kevin Durant and Raymond Green as
their front line, Kevin Love has to be able to

(16:48):
dominate inside and he just but he's not that kind
of player. He's not. He's not, or he no longer is. Now.
He's a face up shooter that occasionally can rebound, right Like,
That's that's who he's become. Make him do more than
a ki You're bound. He's amazing rebound. He's the heck
of an offensive rebounder as well, and hurt them in that.
But yeah, he didn't have a particularly great game, and
you know, and then they got a big game out
of Thompson, who you don't expect to get those kind

(17:10):
of numbers from. So they just have to get players
who are a little bit more consistent offensively and be
able to be a more consistent offensive team. That's the
difference of Warriors are incredible offensively when their guys are
all going there as they were possible to guard. Everybody
talks about two of the better teams right defensively, and
and they let them beat the hell out of one another,
goase of the way the officials called the game, which
I absolutely hate, but that's a whole another story. But

(17:32):
these great defensive teams. The lowest any team scored in
one game was like nineties something points. They're scoring a
hundred and twenty. I mean, it's crazy what would have happened.
That's why I keep telling people I don't care how
good you are defensively. If you're on offensively and an
offensive player is on, there's no such thing as a
defensive stopper. When I hear that, almost almost laugh. Nobody
stopped me offensively. If I was on my game, I'm

(17:52):
gonna score. Maybe you gotta work harder, but you're never
gonna shut me down. And that's what happened here. Look
at what those teams did. Look at the points they scored.
Because they have such incredible offensive talent. NBA champion, four
NBA Finals MVP, and of course four time First Team
All NBA selection, um uh Rick Berry joining US on
the Doug Gottlib Show on Fox Sports Radio. Rick, if

(18:14):
forget about history, historically, Lebron has had a better career.
But your basketball I tells you right now, who's the
better current basketball player, Kevin Durant Lebron James. Uh, they're
both great players, but different players. You have a powerful, incredible,
stoppable and movable force in Lebron who does things better
in some areas than Katie does. But k D is

(18:36):
another anomaly. I call them both anomalies. And you have
a more uh, you know, athletics, smooth kind of player,
who can shoot the three, who can get to the
basket and finished strong, who can shoot the mid rain shot,
who's gonna make his free throws. Much better shooter than Lebron.
James is and Lebron is a better rebound. They're probably
had a better pastor so both of them have things
that they do better than the other guy. Either one

(18:56):
as a player that you'd love to have on your
basketball team. And the scary thing is is that yachtually
could have both of them, because Lebron could play one, two,
or three, and that would be kind of scary having
to two, three being Lebron and Kevin Durant, how's that, No,
it's it's it's crazy, how skilled, how talented both both players. Yeah,
I believe who's making all this fun about criticizing Lebron.

(19:17):
I feel sorry for this guy's guy's the greatest three
to ever play the game. Kevin Durant's running right up
there with him as being one of the greats of
all time at the three position, and and and people
are trying to find fault in him. If he hadn't
made the past the Corver in that game over the heads,
he had made the past, hadn't made the past the
corporate and he had didn't score, and then they didn't
get a basket, they would have all said, hey, you
should have passed at the Corver. Well, I heard you

(19:38):
get into it with Rob Parker over the weekend, and
and my, my, my, you know, my, My pushback to
you would be this, I agree in terms of the
technical basketball play, Corver is a great shooter. He was open.
But I mean, like, look, you were a great score
You lad the NBA in scoring, and so wouldn't you
Would you find any any kind of grounds for agreement

(19:59):
if I told do that, not every bucket you got
with the game on the line, was the right basketball play?
But you were such a great score that I would
rather have you take a questionable shot than having somebody
else taken a little bit more open shot. If that's
where I disagree with you, because when you if you
know how to play the game the way it's supposed
to be played, you never take a shot if you
have a teammate in a better position to score than

(20:20):
you do. There was it wasn't like he had a
wide open opening. He was gonna get challenged by a defender,
so he had a wide open guy, one of the
great shooters in the history of the NBA from three
point range wide open. I mean, you just that's the
play that you have to make. That's the intelligent basket
in the smart play to make. Now, it doesn't mean
that he might not have been able to score. It
might have been able to do something, but it wouldn't

(20:42):
be is the correct play to make in that situation.
I never took a shot in my life that if
I had a teammate in a better position that I
wouldn't have taken the shot. Now, it doesn't mean I'm
gonna throw it. If I'm going and I got an
eight ft ten foot jumper, and I got a teammate open.
You know, Um it's a eight team foot jumper. I
got a teammate open to twelve? Why open? And I
can get my shot off, then I'm gonna throw to

(21:02):
the guy wide open, because if I'm a better shooter
than he is, I'm not throwing to him even if
he's open. That's a play that you don't make. Well
we listen. I don't know if we have this bruder
film of every shot you ever took. I I love
this one, this one i'd I'd love to challenge Rick
uh Rick Barry joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Um, okay,
So what about Quarver? Like to me, I know he

(21:23):
hit a big three in the fourth but of the
stories that don't get discussed, like he was brought in
for one sole purpose and he failed for the most part,
I agree he was. He was a disappointment. I thought that,
oh my god, he's going to really help those guys.
But he did not shoot the ball the way that
he had done in the past, and he got a
lot of great wide open looks. And that's why you

(21:45):
see the problem is that he got open, looks what
he missed. But the thing is he's a one dimensional player.
That's why. That's why I'm saying, you gotta add to
make Cleveland better, You've got to bring a guy who
could shoot the three, but also you can get to
the basket. Yeah, but the problem with that is they're
all their their lock up cap wise, right like they
You got to get young players. You have to have
the ability to recognize talent less like the Warriors didn't

(22:06):
bring in young people, and not get hung up on
the athleticism necessarily of a player. But find the guy
who has a great stroke, who knows how to play
the game and knows and that's the kind of players
you gotta bring in. You gotta look for those kinds
of players. The problem is these guys get so hung
up on athleticism. They bring all these athletic guys in
there who really don't know how to play the game
the way it should be played. Well. They they actually

(22:27):
the Calves actually have all older guys off their bench.
They have plenty of shooting, they don't have they need
kind of the mix of athleticism, right like they don't.
You're right, they need some younger bodies, but they they're
kind of caught in the well. We trust guys that
are older guys and they'll take a little bit less money.
I think the money is the bigger fact. Last thing,
let you go, um what outside of injury, Like, look,

(22:49):
if Kevin Duran gets hurt God forbid, or Steph Curry
gets hurt or Clay Thompson gets hurt, that's what usually
leads to dynasty's ending in their prime. Outside of that, Uh,
what what is your biggest concern that could change what
we think could be a multiple championship run from the
Golden State wards. This injury would be the thing. And
if somebody decided that they want to leave to get

(23:10):
more money, but money isn't even affected on it makes
so much even place that he'd rather be on a
team winning championships. And if they all go with that
attitude and keep playing the kind of basketball they do
and have the tweaking being done, wouldn't surprise me if
they look to find something to do something at the
center position. Those eyes are nice and everything, but come on,
you know they could do they could do better there.
They can get somebody that can help them even more there.
So that's what they're gonna do. They're gonna tweak it

(23:31):
and try to go and make themselves a little bit better.
But they've got a nucleus of players that if they
all stay together and they stay healthy over the next
five six years, they can win multiple championships without question.
At your basketball camp, do you how do you teach
free throw shooting? I don't try to teach. I don't
try to force that on anybody. I just you know,
if somebody wants to learn it, that's great. I mean
I don't It doesn't matter to me if somebody wants

(23:51):
to shoot or not. I just don't understand why people
want to don't want to try anything to get themselves
to be better. What they need to do is get
my son's scooter with the solid shots that my son
took DeAndre Jordan in three short sessions and Adam shooting
seventies something to present from the free throw line changed
his form and everything and he stopped working with it.
Using this incredibly sophisticated sleeve, my son, I said, Son,
you need to go hire yourself out as a shooting coach.
He could change guys shooting dramatically, and teams should get

(24:13):
ahold of them, which son, all your sons done shooter
because you like they can all shoot, Canyon can shoot,
like they can all shoot. Yeah, they all can shoot.
And the thing is is he has something to help
guys get to be better shooters and it works, and
it's the it's the greatest teaching tool I have ever seen.
The problem is he's got to get some people with
some investment who put some money into they get the

(24:33):
price back down. But I don't know. I'm trying to
get under armor. If under armor where to do the
Steph Curry shooting sleep and do this with step kids
could actually learn how to shoot exactly that stuff because
it would be programmed that way, they'll be flying off
the shows. I mean, it's the greatest teaching tool I've
ever seen. I've been around a long time. You can
I can see you when you shoot, what you're doing
growing It can't see everything every time. The sleeve sees
everything every time. Greatest teaching tool history. And it's going

(24:54):
to go to other sports. They're working on it for
other sports for various things. In baseball to help pictures
so they don't go and get the me John surgery.
They could do it for football and showed it to
some quarterbacks who were Hall of famers. They said, oh
my god, this would be unbelievable. Form my camps for
the kids. It can revolutionize the way people learn to
do the fundamentals in so many different sports. Incredible technology,
Rick Berry. Rick, thanks so much for catching up place.

(25:15):
Let me get a quick thing in there. You know
to to for me to go go g y V
dot com forward slash, Rick Berry. If people are trying
to go ahead and get themselves better, I got off
a prescription jug for inflammation and all by taking this stuff.
Go g y V dot com forward slash. Are Barry,
check it out and improve your life, Rick, great stuff,
Thanks so much for joining all right. Always a pleasure doctor.

(25:35):
That's Rick Barry. I played against his team. He's a
head coach of Fort Myers. They're good. Mike Lewis, who's
an assistant with the brask was his point guard. They
used to argue with each other during the game. Ricky like,
he's not scared to give his opinion and I disagree
with he kind of did you notice he kind of
supported my He's like, well, look if I have aleven
foot shot and somebody's not as good as shooters at

(25:56):
three point range. I'm not going to pass out to him, like, okay,
but what if you're Lebron James and there's a great
shooter out there because the semi contested shot, there's a
gray area there. Not every bucket is made on a
wide open shot. Get your phone calls in the second
Uh number is eight seven seven six three six nine first,

(26:18):
So let's find out what's trending. Doug got Live show,
Fox Sports Radio. Let's just work some of you guys
in get a chance to give your thoughts on the finals.
I don't want you to coast the show. Okay, this
is not a a a Doug and Greg and Arlington show.
But Greg, give me your give me the first thought

(26:39):
off the top of your head after the finals concluded.
You got me following the great Rick Berry and you
want another first thought off the top of my head. Yeah.
I think Lebron takes place off, man. I think that
it costs the Cavaliers. Look, I think they all take
place off. I mean that there's a percentage of plays
in which you take off. I think he fatigued badly

(27:00):
in the first couple of games, and that's one of
the reasons they had such a big lead in Game
four it didn't matter. But I think, you know, not
not managing when when how he takes plays off. I
do think there were some times last night defensively where
he wasn't as good as he could have been. Um.
But again, like we don't go back in and research
research Jordan, how many plays he took off defensively, but

(27:21):
it would be fair, I don't do. I think that's
the only reason, um, the only reason that they lost
last night. No, But like I was trying to just
good thanks for the call, Um, I was trying to
describe earlier today, like, oh, well, is it the GM's fault? Yeah?
Is it Lebron's fault for his decisions in influencing the
general management? Well? Yeah, is it all Lebron? Is it

(27:45):
Lebron's fault that they lost? Yeah? I mean, like he's
not absolved of blame when they lose, but he's also
not shouldn't be the biggest receiver of blame? Does that
make can't there be uh the truth be in the middle, right?
Like why does why do we have to do what
politics always tries to draw out of us? Why do

(28:09):
we have to do that like the greatest thing is
like try and be the first person to ever win
the abortion argument, right that like's never going there's never.
But the truth is, like most of us are in
the middle, Like we don't really want our significant other
to have one, but we know that it needs to exist,
and uh, we're even though those of us who know

(28:31):
it needs to exist believe that late term abortions shouldn't
be legal, with the exception of like if the mom
is in grave danger, or if the baby uh is
severely severely deformed, or possibly even you know, gonna be stillborn,
Like there are some exceptions to it doesn't always have
to be. Like, the truth is, most of us are

(28:52):
more in the middle, right, but in politics were drawn
to both sides. So if I'm asked, hey, is Lebron
to blame for them losing? Well, no, but yes, right,
Like it's kind of he's not absolved to blame. But
it's not like Lebron is the reason we lost, like
Kyle Corver. It shouldn't accept some Hell, I'm sure accept

(29:15):
some blame. Like Look, I was brought in to be
a shooter, and I didn't make shots with the one
fourth quarter. I didn't make shots, and I was bad
at other points, but like Kyle Corver, played with ten
minutes or something fifteen minutes, so you don't necessarily lose
a series in ten or fifteen minutes played in the game,
Rodney and san Antonio on The Dug Out Lip Show,

(29:35):
I appreciate you taking my call. I wanted to make
two points if I could. The first point is that
I love Kevin Durant. I'm glad that he won, but
that dude robbed me, man, he robbed me of Okay,
see versus the Spurs, Okay, see versus the Rockets, the
Warriors in the camps for three or four or five
years down the road. He robbed me of that. He

(29:58):
could have waited and and Chase Ring later. The second
point I wanted to make was that the real super
team is go to see. You got the Rent, Steph Clay, Draymond,
you got Wet Livingstone, and Igwadala was the m v P.
That dude was the faith of the seventies sixers. They're
all starters on any other team, They're not. That's the

(30:19):
real super team. No, they're not. Andrea Listen, like I
loved Andrea Goodala ten years ago with the Sixers, ten
years ago with the Sixers. The reason Andrew Goodala dominated
last night was they weren't guarding him. I hate to
be the guy that has to teach you a basketball lesson, right,
but I gotta teach you a basketball lesson. Andrew Godala

(30:40):
was a tremendous tremendous player, tremendous player, but like we are,
we are in the later stages of his career and
he is seen as kind of a non shooter. They
don't guard him. He was two of seven from three
last night and they were all wide open. They're daring
him to shoot. If he shoots, Cleveland thinks they have won.

(31:02):
Now he got dunks and layups because again, they weren't
guarding him. They were making him score. It's the same
thing with Draymond Green. He's a superstar role player. But
Draymond Green on his own team and he's not averaging
five a game. He's in the perfect role. The proper
way to express what you like about the Golden State

(31:22):
Warriors is that they fit together. And here's the thing
that people are missing. He's right in terms of we
would have had better overall playoff series. We would have
better overall playoff series. Also, if Tony Parker hadn't gotten
hurt and Kawhi Leonard hadn't gotten hurt, If if if
Blake Griffin hadn't gotten hurt, like, that's that's not Kevin
Durant's fault. So he did change the league. But if

(31:45):
if the Golden State Warriors and they weren't necessarily going
to be comprised the same because Bogett left, Let's say
that they got Harrison Barnes back and Harrison Barnes was
back and they had Jasa, are they absolutely the favorite
to win the championship? No? I don't understand how this
year we don't care about regular season. Right, The Boston

(32:09):
Celtics the best record in the Eastern regular season and
nobody thinks that's indicative of them being a great team. Correct.
But the argument for Kevin Durant leaving the Golden State
leaving Oklahoma City for the Golden State Warriors and why
it's a negative is, hey, they won seventy three games
in the regacy didn't mean anything. Cleveland would have been
the favorite had he not joined them. It wasn't a

(32:31):
championship team that then that dominating the finals and then
added him in addition to what they had. They totally
reworked their team quickly. Curtis in South Carolina Curtis Shore
on the Dug Out Live show, thank you for accepting
my call. First thing I do want to say is,
even though I'm not a big Golden State fast, I

(32:52):
am happy that Dad got his read. And for me,
it's not about Hilp Jordan versus Hilp Jordan, the team
that last year he had a chance to beat. But
my main concern is I really do feel like Tyra
Lou dropped the ball. Coach of this UH coach of
the state gets the Warriors of the finals. I don't

(33:12):
understand why he feels like they could continue to keep
running gets this Golden State squad where I felt like
if they flowed the pace down then they obviously had
a better chance to win the game. I kind of
does want to get your take on that. Plus, is
Derrick Williams that bad that he can't get any play
at times? I mean he was he was on he

(33:35):
was on the street. He was on the street three
three or four months ago, right, I mean yes, I
mean there's there's there's no trust there. I agree with
you like. I would have liked I would have liked
in games one or two when it's a blowout to
see what they're because he was a guy like people
forget Derrick Williams. He was drafted out of Arizona, played
center at Arizona, and he was drafted to be like
a two three with Minnesota. But that's a series to

(33:56):
which you'd like to think maybe he could give you
something because you need versatile players. But then obviously was
no trust there, and it's part of what Tyrod louis.
Tyrond Loup might be a young coach, but he's got
those old school values, which is ISO ball and get
veteran guys because veteran guys know their role and don't
do anything they don't think they can do. I love

(34:22):
the fact that everybody's pointing out, like Lebron James over
a triple double, you should be the m v P.
Like did you see what Kevin Durant did shooting fift
from three, nine three from the line, eight and a
half rebounds, five and a half assists, one and a
half blocks, one stealer game. Oh yeah, and they won

(34:43):
four of the five games. What am I missing? I'm missing.
What are the chances the Warriors don't go to the
White House? Real news, fake news will tell you next
what True Car. You can find out what other people
in your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. Doug Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come on,

(35:07):
let's arms out. Oh yeah, uh huh yeah yeah, uh hi.
We got a lot to get to. We'll keep working
in your phone calls because like, look, everybody watched the game.
This is one of those weird things, right, Maybe you
went to a baseball game last time. My buddy went
to the Angel game and watched, uh, watched Judge hit

(35:28):
another home run. Angel fans, Yankee fans chanting m v P.
Kid's gonna probably win the m v P. I mean
he's so like what a story? What a story? Um?
But like with the exception of like I had something
my kids, my kids graduation or whatever, or I had,
uh I went to a like a major League baseball game,
Like what's your who didn't watch the game last night?

(35:50):
Things with your last chance to watch like legit sporting
event for important sporting event for how long when's the
next important sporting event September? I mean you want to
go US open this Sunday on on Fox. Okay, but
it might be good, it might not. But it's not
like that. Ain't like this right, Like there's we're still Americans?

(36:14):
This uh, major League Baseball playoffs? H college football games,
NFL games. What would guess say? Guess it's big for
some people. Let's get to my sex. Let's reach into
godly sack. All right, Dan byro, what's in the SEC today? Today?

(36:36):
We've got the chances? All right, let's start with the Warriors,
this question being post to a lot of championship teams
as of late. Warriors gonna hold their parade on Thursday.
But now the question is, Doug, will they go to
the White House? In a statement, the Warriors said that would.
They have not received an invitation yet, but we'll make
those decisions when and if necessary. Steve Kerr has also

(36:56):
been critical of President in Trump at times. What are
the answers? The Warriors already no show at the White House?
Chances there are no show chance chance. I don't believe
the story that they've already voted they're not going is
accurate I'm sure they've already said, like we ain't going,
but it's not like an actual vote. Uh but Steve

(37:17):
Curran going, Uh, Steph Currying going, Draymond ain't gone, Katie
ain't going, igodal and like I don't think they're going.
I really don't Joe Laca Bank going. I don't see
I honestly don't see them going. It would be Sean
is not going, Jamail McGee ain't going, Like all right,

(37:37):
we kind of keep working down the day. Lest ain't
going like those good they're not They're not going. It's
not happening. Oklahoma State had football coach Mike Gundy sound
a new five year extension and deal with the school.
This has kind of been in a holding pattern for
a little while, but it gives him a raise for
the upcoming season, where he'll make more than four million dollars. Doug,
what are the chances, you're all, my mater makes the

(38:00):
college football playoffs in those next five years under GUNDI, Well,
this would be a great year. The league is still
a little bit down. The problem is that they gotta
probably beat Oklahoma twice to do so what are the chances?
I'd say, chance, chance, now like, look, Olm never won
a league championship before he got there and yearly now
competing for one, they have in fact won one back

(38:22):
into one. Um, it's chance they get to a college
fall player. Finally, one are the chances that we actually
see Mayweather and McGregor fight in Las Vegas on August?
A lot of news about that date now being the
uh the day that we're going to see the fight
in Las Vegas. I'm gonna gocent chance. You know, there's

(38:43):
a zero percent chance I buy the fight. Chance it
happens to that day. I'd rather see Mayweather fight a
lion than fight Uh Siegfried and Roy and Uh are
they still around? I don't know. I haven't met the
Vegas in a while. That was Scott leap Sack when

(39:03):
tec somebody right, yeah, Tiger one person nothing. Couldn't see
that one coming. So the question becomes what's next for
the NBA? What's next? How do people react to what
we saw in the playoffs and what we saw last night?
I think I know the answer. I'll share it with

(39:24):
you next on the Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio.
What Up, It's the Doug Gottlieb show Fox Sports Radio
live and direct from Los Angeles, California. You can be
part of the show eight seven seven, six, three, six nine,

(39:46):
sexty nine Doubts Easy. I didn't pick out the phone
numbers eight seven seven foxes the phone number. We have
ourselves an NBA champion, But it's the reaction to it.
Still mad at still mad at k D Are you
impressed by Lebron or are you realistic about Lebron? There's

(40:07):
so much to get to, so much to get to.
Um I would I would say that the most interesting
thing is how do we react to something? Right? Like
everything is based upon who the first person in to
do something is, Does it does it change things? I

(40:28):
brought this up yesterday. Lincoln Riley was our guest yesterday.
He's the head coach at the University of Oklahoma. He's
thirty three years old, and he and I got into
part of our discussion was does anybody realize that Bob
Stoops brought the spread offense kind of validated the spread
offense because at the time it was it West Virginia

(40:49):
or two was at Tulane and then Clemson and West
Virginia with rich Rod and then of course it was
at Kentucky with Mike Leach. Rich Rich Brooks was the coach.
Then Mike Leach was the offense coordinator. When he brought
Mike Leach to Oklahoma's his offensive coordinators a defensive guy
and turned his offense over to a guy that threw
it like nine times in ten even with the lead,

(41:11):
that change college football forever. First didn't change his thing,
but also how we react to those things. So much
of what we do were reactionary society. We either keep
up with it or we go counter to it. That
that's kind of what we do, right. That's frankly, the

(41:33):
Golden State Warriors playing small ball. You either try and
match them small ball or you try and beat him
up inside. Well, the Warriors have now won a second
title in three years. But Kevin Durant is viewed completely differently,
Like Kevin Rent was awesome in the last five years.

(41:53):
He was injured one year, two years ago, or it
was three years ago. Three seasons ago. He was injured.
He broke his foot and then he had to have
he had a second surgery on that foot. He was
fifty one games. It was completely and utterly unfair that
Scott Brookes got fired that year because he didn't have
every player on his team had gotten hurt that season.

(42:14):
But maybe it runs runs course. Now he's in d
C and he's finally he's got a good young team there.
So I look at this and I and I wonder
how the NBA will react to Kevin Durant leaving Oklahoma City,
a really good team that had chance to compete for
an NBA title and going to a team that was,

(42:37):
like to Camp, was likely to be in the NBA
Finals and possibly win it all, I mean, or a two, three,
four year run. He's gonna get several shots at take
a little bit less money, because you're going to be
viewed differently if in fact, you win a title. If
you don't believe me over the next week, you'll be overwhelmed,
or if you haven't already been overwhelmed by the thought

(42:59):
that Kevin Rent is better than Lebron James. Well, he's
definitely a better He has definitely better offensive scoring skills
in Lebron James. His defense is not nearly as not
in many ways, there are things that he does defensively
better than Lebron James, and the strength that he's lacking,

(43:20):
and maybe some of the explosiveness that he's lacking comparison,
Lebron isn't as important now in the NBA as much
as skill passing, and then his his size allows him
to shoot over people. Look, I'm watching Sports Station right now,
and the first question they're posing is did Lebron overtake
did Katie overtake Lebron as best player in the NBA?

(43:43):
And the only reason we're having that discussion is because
he just won NBA title. And oh yeah, by the way,
I actually thought he was better than Lebron in most
of the games. I don't really understand this. This like
we you'd love Lebron, you know Lebron, Like you're defending Lebron,
like that's cool. But we've never had a player who
wasn't that good in the second half of games in

(44:04):
the NBA Finals and was outplayed the same position, who
continued to have the throne of being the best player. Like,
that's not the way it works. You can say Lebron
has had a better career and he's a better player
for his career, but in the last two weeks, Kevin
Durant has been the better player. Um. But the only
reason this is happening is because of who he's surrounded by, right,

(44:28):
the surrounding cast, supporting cast, the coaches, the style, of
the culture, of the scheme, all of those things correct.
So how does the league react? There's only two possible things.
If you're Gordon Hayward, you either say I'm just gonna
make my money, do my thing and whatever happened in
Golden State happens. Or like I'm Gordon Hayward, like I
haven't made the first three all NBA teams? Am I

(44:52):
a better Draymond Green made? Do you make second team
on NBA? Like it's a joke. Draymond Green's a really,
really good player. I'm not in any way trying to
defame Raymond Green. He's not one of the top fifteen
players in the NBA. If they'd redrafted the NBA draft,
they wouldn't. No one would draft Raymond Green in the
top fifteen. Wouldn't happen. He wouldn't go ahead of Anthony Davis,

(45:15):
he wouldn't go and he wouldn't go ahead of of
DeMarcus Cousins. He wouldn't go ahead of John Wall, He
wouldn't go ahead of Brad Beale. He he just wouldn't.
He wouldn't go ahead of and Anti d Kompo Jonas
and Kompo, he wouldn't. He's really important to how the
Warriors play. But stop it. The reason he's he's seen
as oh NBA player because he's playing on a championship

(45:40):
team to have the last three years in the finals,
the last three years. So if we use that, then
if you're Chris Paul, you're like, Look, Chris Paul thinks
to himself like any star player, who, by the way,
is also better than Draymond Green thanks to himself, like
I'm the best point guard on Earth. There's no us

(46:00):
a way that that in his heart of hearts, and
I'm sure it's probably come out to his friends like that.
Chris Paul doesn't sit there and go like, I'm the
best point guard on but as he's been able to
show it, no, because you're not viewed as such if
you don't win for at least compete for a championship.

(46:22):
And so the question becomes how does Chris Paul react?
And there's only one possible human reaction that today the
reason free agency should be today is when you're caused
to make a knee jerk reaction. You make one, and
it's usually through emotion, and the emotion has to be
I'm looking at Kadi, and Katie's the same guy he
was last year. The only difference is the supporting cast,

(46:45):
the culture of the ownership, the coach, the championship pedigree. Now,
I guess I'm fascinated by the idea that Chris Paul
could look at this and go, Look, I could go
from a guy who probably goes to the Hall of
Fame goes down as one of the better guards, uh
in my era. Or I could go to San Antonio,

(47:08):
have a shot to win a title, and if I
win a title with the San Antonio Spurs, I'm one
of the greatest players ever played the game. Gordon Hayward.
I can go to Boston play for a guy who
I know what he's like. Uh. They need my style
of play, they need my scoring. We compete for a title.
The Calves are not that much better. If get me

(47:30):
add one more played, trade away Isaiah Thomas as well,
continue to get more players like those are legit possibilities.
How does the NBA by NBA, I mean the players themselves,
How do they react to how Kevin Durant is now
being viewed in comparison to how he was viewed last year.
That's the most fascinating post mortem part about the NBA

(47:52):
Finals won four games and won by the Golden State Warriors. Yes, Ryan,
do you think the biggest threat to the Warriors? If
we're gonna say that for the most part, their their
team is gonna stay the same in this offseason and
everyone stays healthy. Do you think the biggest threat to
the Warriors is going to come from another team that's
close within the Western Conference? Or is it really only
the Calves and what they can do in the offseason

(48:12):
to get better out of the Eastern Conference. I think
what it's gonna come down to is it's it's going
to be what brings down a giant is a thousand
little cuts. When I was at ESPN that we used
to have these meetings once a year. It's guy named
Barry Blind and Barry is their lead researcher. And Barry

(48:33):
and this is going back, I'm gonna say six seven
years ago, He's like, Look, we don't think direct competition
is what's ultimately going to bring down ESPN. We think
it's gonna be rising costs of events. We think it's
going to be challenges from you know, uh NBC Sports
Network with their niche programming, you know Fox with their programming,

(48:56):
other channels with their programming, the fact that few things
are going to your devices into digital, the digital age,
and he went through like all the different things that
options that people have, and that ultimately is the ultimate
challenge to ESPN. I use it because I think Rome
has followed, like ESPN still has some awesome programming on it.
They're still gonna have some big time games. I don't

(49:17):
think it's that. My son night, we try and get
up and watch Sports Center and it's not the same.
Like a lot of times, it's not we want to score,
we want the highlights. We want the highlights to tell
a story. They get locked in on one highlight over
and over again, like what happened to the game? Tell
me how it happened, Tell me why it happened, Give
me something anyway. By my point is I think Rome's
kind of fallen there, and I do think it was
a thousand and even the Fox Sports one I, which

(49:41):
I know will succeed. I don't think it's a direct
frontal assault like that's not We've flanked him. That's what
will happen with the Warriors. It's the same thing that
happened to him last year. It's when you have short series.
Now they're not as worn down. Remember last year, Steph
got hurt so he didn't play. That caused everybody else
to have to play more. They didn't play the injured teams.

(50:02):
They went with the way they played the year before. Like, look,
if the Clippers are good, the Spurs are good, the
thunder is good, the Trailblazes are like. If other teams
can push them to five, six, seven games, and then
they get to the Calves, who will continue to reconfigure themselves,
that's what ultimately topples Rome overcast his entries. This all

(50:24):
reacting to Andy Kennedy of hoop Pipe, who wrote, excuse me,
Alex Kennedy. Andy Kennedy's friend of mine is coach Olmos
Alex Kennedy of hoop Pipe, who tweeted out executives and
players around the NBA absolutely believe Chris Paul to the
Spurs is a realistic possibility. Free agency starts in nineteen days.
Possibility different than probability, But I would guess that if

(50:45):
Chris Paul was pushed today, it would be more likely
than in nineteen days when you're like, all right, now
it's kind of worn off. Now you're like two million
as opposed to fifty million. What do you want to do?
I have some friends that work for USA Basketball and
they told me something about Steph Curry, and I I

(51:08):
saw some of it last night. It's what to me,
fascinates me about Steph Curry, who's now a two time
NBA champion of two time NBA m v P. What's
fascinating about him? Find out next? With True Car, you

(51:29):
can find out what other people in your area paid
for the same car you're looking for, and on average
save over three thousand off m s r P whether
you're looking for a new or used car. Visit True
Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience. Doug Otlip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. I'll tell you why I find Steph

(51:50):
Curry so incredibly interesting, engaging, and frankly different than any
superstar we've seen in major sports to my recollection, and
UM do so after we get to Larry and Las Vegas. Larry,
what are your thoughts? And the Warriors? UH? To be honest, Twitter,
you guys there's a lot of praise about their winning,

(52:10):
but believe it or not, as everybody woke up to
this morning, it's more disdain and dislike for them because
they want so I just want to touch on that
and one more other things. Why do they be because
you already know that it's first they don't like Howard.
Howard started with the Durant things, so you know it's
gonna be just as much more hate today as it
was uh a couple of months. And don't speak for
everybody else. Tell me why, Like, why do you specifically

(52:33):
not like the Warriors because they went and Kevin Durant
was a free agent, they got him to join him. Uh,
that's it. He he chose to do that. That's what
he chose to do it. They defies his character and
how he do things. I'm just referring back to something
that Rick Barry said earlier on the show. Rick Berry
made a statement was come up. It was kind of
almost like LaVar Ball when he said that, Uh, the
league is so tired of that athleticism. I mean, when

(52:54):
you say that, we all know who athleticism that he's
referring to, but we the honestly, but you think you
think he's saying he's saying the saying black people because
you're athleticism. You know, I didn't say that. You said that.
You're right, You're right because you're you're you're talking around things,
you know. So do you think rick Berry rick Berry
said something ratio because because he said athleticism when exactly

(53:17):
because we're gonna be honest with you too, because I'm
gonna be Charles Buckley to be honest with you. Stephen
Curry is not really like in urban areas and I'm
being brooding me honest, why I'm gonna I'm gonna tell
you why is he not? Because you know what that
you wanna tell you what they call him in the
neighborhood hontually they called him a jump shooting white boy.
That's what they call him. And he did the thing
that this was. I don't know. He is like skinned,

(53:41):
but he's but he's a black like both his parents
are black. So like, look, that's a that's a you problem,
that's a neighborhood problem. Like you can't like you won't
let me say what I want to say. I have
been here, I've let you you bound for a mint
your month from mint and fifty one seconds Larry, and
he's been talking around like it's okay if that's the
way you think. I think it's moronic to think that way.
That's how that's how I'm telling you, that's how I

(54:03):
do agree. I think that's just part of it. The
jerseys that's being said about step Y. I guarantee you
if you walk in herb. But he's supported by mortal
mostly middle white America. Can you, girl, I'm telling you,
I'm telling you the truth. What is he? What is
he specifically? What don't you like about him? What is it?
What is it about Steph Curry? It's that he's good looking,
he's light skinned, he's got to get married, he's got kids. Uh,

(54:26):
he's Christian. He doesn't appear to have a ton of vices.
He hasn't gotten arrested like he doesn't. Uh, he actually
does have tattoos. Like, what is the what's the part
that's not that doesn't break through to you that you
don't like about him? What you mean what I don't
like about it? What do you mean do I like him?
I never said that I didn't. Just like I'm telling

(54:46):
you what America views him as as I talked to
my prayers at Basketball Enthusiasm. The problem they do not
like that dude and the whole team, even with Clay
all the rest of them. To them, it's just like
they were to them. To of our friends call him
the modern day Boston Celtics almost because you think because
they're actually white guys, that's that's kind And why don't

(55:08):
this this is an honest question. Why why don't Why
do black people not like the success of other black
people just because their skin is letter. I don't understand
that one, I guess because you know they don't. They
He didn't come up the way the typical guys that
play in the league. You know, if you look at
you know he didn't. So he came up no question, no,
no question, country club kid. But but like but like

(55:29):
new grand Hill. He's the new grand Okay, but like okay,
so like the Grand Hill bad guy because he grew
up with money and like he's like, yeah, you know,
you know what's envy and in the in the world today, Doug,
you know how envy is and how it sets in
with some people. And the people that come up the
way we come up or come up playing ball in hood,
they look at like, you know, Durant, is that nice guy.
Durant probably come up in the hood, but the grand
kid and the nice guy. And and Draymond Green, is

(55:52):
he's doing that the guy to co to the court
with Steph and him and everybody tried him or fight
him or something, And is this just looks like that's
the way it's line up. Oh that stay wore daddy,
Draymond Green, he used to stick up for me. Anybody
gonna miss with y'all if y'all come to the hood
and ball. I that's the way they view and that's
why people do not really like them. Like the way
they built in the way they get down they wanted.
I applaud them. I think they hell of ball players.

(56:13):
They can get it. And all I said was the
most medical white America. They gravitate towards that guy because
he resembles what they feel is close to what they
do in the basketball arena. And I believe that whole hardy.
They can relate to stuff more they can relate to
other people that other ball player, let's say black, other
players darker skinned it or I love like Carrie is

(56:35):
a freak, there's no question, but hey, I appreciate the
call Larry Larry wasn't Larry was he was. Look, he
was trying to keep it real. I just I don't understand.
I'm like white guys, we don't have that kind of thing.
Like I hate chanderuh Chandler Parsons, but I hate Chandler
Persons because he's way better looking at me, way taller
than me, he's way more skilled than me. But I
don't actually hate him. It's just kind of yeah, way

(56:57):
more money. I just I there's an irony to the
idea that black people don't like Black people feel that
white people don't like them because the color of their skin.
Like I don't have any of these feelings, I do
know that some of that does exist. I think I've
said this before. I think people they don't like each

(57:18):
other for the color of their skin is a lot
like people that say Washington and worshier clothes. They're slowly
dying off, thankfully, right they We're not rid of them yet,
and it seems like there's more of them because of
social media, but a lot of it's because a lot
of it it's we're frankly, we're cutting them out of
the tribe. And a lot with it. There's no longer

(57:38):
this you can't date somebody for another race. There's lots
of mixed race people out there, thankfully as well. But like,
I don't under like there is a deep, deep irony
to the idea that black people don't like white people
because white people judge them because the color of their skin.
And yet those same black people don't like other black

(57:59):
Like Steph Curry is black, mom's black, dad's black. He's
just lighter skin black, but they don't like him because
he's lighter skin black and he plays more of a
finesse game. Let me just stick up for rick Berry.
Rick Berry saying skill over athleticism is not a racial mark.
It's just not. There's not. Like. One of the things

(58:21):
that bothers me about the judgment of Steph Curry is
in order to be a great shot, wau his dad
was a great shoot. Like, you're not born into being
a great shooter. Nobody like comes out in like two
years old, Like what Like, No, he's like, just you
learn and you spend hours upon hours upon hours upon hours.

(58:42):
He's the ultimate success story. All you've ever hoped for
if you're African American is to have a two parent home,
college educated kid. Get the kid get the same shot
that a two parent like you always thought if if
a black kid had the same upbring as the white kid,
what would he do. That's what Steph Curry at And
he's better than any white kids ever been. Who's a

(59:02):
two time m v P. And I'm telling you when
he when he came out, like people crushed me because
when he came out I didn't think he had the
upside of some other players. That was shared by a
lot of that a lot of people. And last night
and the last two games, when he get physical with him,
he's he's a different player. But I don't understand the

(59:23):
guy can ball guys made himself into a player. And
here's the part I love the most about him. Like
all we want our athletes to be is humble superstar.
Right do you want the Richard Sherman's do you want
to look at me? He's like when a guy doesn't
look at me. We don't like it when a guy says, hey,

(59:44):
I'll welcome in another superstar to be a better player
on my team if it helps us as one win.
How can you not love that? I love when Tim
Duncan welcome in LaMarcus Aldridge. Tim Duncan welcomed to La
Marcus Aldridge to take his spot, and man, come on

(01:00:05):
in here, play with me for a year, then him retire,
then you take my spot. It's your team. That's exactly
what you want from a human being, not just an athlete.
Take a listener. This is this is uh. This is
Draymond Green talking about a conversation he had with Steph
Curry around Christmas time. Step definitely took a back seat

(01:00:28):
to start the season until he realized we didn't need
him to take a back seat. We need you to
be aggressive as you're gonna be. And you know when
when Steph turned that corner, I think it was after
Christmas Day. Um, when he turned that corner, we became
almost unbeatable, and you know that's what we needed. And
so you know that was the whole thing. Who's gonna
take less shots. This is gonna be Steph, Katie Clay,

(01:00:50):
none of them. You know, the ball is gonna find
who we need to find at the end of the day,
and that's those three guys. And we need them guys
to shoot the ball let score for us. And they
did that here's here's Steph Curry on the same conversation.
You know, honestly, after that Christmas Day game, I kind
of understood that, you know, we have such high i
Q players that if I could be aggressive do what
I do and they need to do every single night,

(01:01:11):
everything will will kind of float from that. And I
think the proof is obviously what we were able to
accomplish from that point on the regular season, being sixteen
wanted the playoffs, everybody being the best version of themselves
and you know, putting all the puzzle pieces together. So
just happy to be, you know, a leader on this
team that can understand the goals that we we set

(01:01:31):
out for ourselves and try to get it done the
best of what we could. I love buzzwords right and
the buzzwords I hear. Is we a leader, not the leader?
A leader on this team, accomplished goals right, best version
of self. These are parallels to the rest of life,
Like these are the types of people you want to emulate.

(01:01:51):
You want to emulate people that the first thing they
tweet out after the win a championship is that they
don't accept all the glory, like I'm not. I'm not
even I'm I'm more a spiritual person than a religious person,
but I can respect people that like Steph Curry. I've
I've talked to people from Musa basketball like, Look, we've
had a lot of great people. We've never seen anything
like Steph Curry in terms of the type of person

(01:02:13):
he is, and that's on display last night. He was
a two time MVP. Was clearly his team success or
failure was based upon how he played, and he welcomed
in another guy and learned to be the better version
of himself with that guy. And last night a big
reason they won was he was constantly attacking, and Durant

(01:02:36):
gave him credit for that after the game. He was
a bulldog driving in there into contact, getting to the
free through line, making plays. So look, I hear who
was It was his name from Vegas who called us
Larry and Vegas like I hear. Don't get me wrong,
I hear it. I I don't necessarily understand it. I know.

(01:02:57):
I look, I have I'm white, I have a white son.
He loves Steph cur but he also loves Odell Beckham Jr.
And J. J. Watt and Cam Newton like they just
love bigger than life superstars. But I I've heard it
well because he grew up, Like, why is it I
don't understand why it's his fault that he his dad
played in the NBA and they grew up with some money.

(01:03:18):
He doesn't flaun it right, like he's not coming out
with diamonds everywhere and bling everywhere. He's just the dad
cooking with his wife and cooking up NBA defenses. I
just I think the whole narrative is so screwed up.
I think it's a real real it's a terrible snapshot

(01:03:39):
of who we are, our haters. Society finds things to
hate about people that we should have only admiration for.
Dude had no had one scholarship but no scholarship offers
from the a c C. And his dad is a
legend the a c C. Yeah, Clay grew up with
a little bit of money. Like remember former NBA players

(01:04:00):
back then, they weren't making huge, huge money. They grew
up some money, two parent homes. Same thing with Michael
Michael Thompson, Clay Thompson, you grew up a nice area,
all right, Daniel, I'll get to be Daniel and Palm
Beach once t why black people don't like stuff. Get
to that if we find out what's trending. It takes

(01:04:21):
more than a roof to make sure your home is covered.
Farmers Insurance has over eighty nine years of knowledge and
experience so you can protect what's important to you. Learn
more at Farmers dot com. We are Doug Golip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. All right, let's let's let's get into

(01:04:46):
this a little bit. Uh, Daniel and Palm Beach. You're
in the Dog Golip Show. Daniel, you black, see I'm
a black man. I'm a black man in American dog.
What's up, man? How are you? I'm good? My my,
my my. Um. It's not really about why black people
don't like stuff. It's why people and bought a lot
of people don't like the Warriors in general. They're young,

(01:05:07):
they're flashy, they're breaking all the rules, and and I
think there's a sentiment that they came up too sad
without really feeling adversity. Like what even m J so
when he's played the Pistons, what Boston l a went through,
What what Lebron has went through. I feel like a
lot of players and a lot of people who like
Warren look at them, like many guys just seem like
they got grandfather than things. Now. Him being light skin,

(01:05:30):
there is a sentiment in inner cities and stuff where
light skin black people may get a different kind of
flack versus dark skinned black people. And it isn't silly
and all in all, it's silly. It's really stupid and asinine.
But that's how it is with that guy was saying, though,
I felt like a lot of dude was his personal emotion.
I don't think a lot of black people I promised
steps Curry because he's a little pretty boy, light skin dude.

(01:05:50):
You know it's it's because the warriors in generals, they're
kind of copy. They're young, they're flashy, they came up
fast without much adversity, and they're just taking the league
by storm. That's why the sentiments towards the warriors so much.
They haven't earned that roy. I think, Look, I think
some of that's fair. I would also point out, like
stephanit went through a bunch of adversity, Like the reason

(01:06:12):
his contract is not big is he was hurt his
the first four years he was hurt. If you look back,
this is a true story. Okay. I used to do
a show called Leadoff on CBS Sports Network. Don't worry,
I call it the Winness Protection Program if you never
saw it. On our very first episode, I texted Steph.
It was the night of the first game. It was
the night before their first game of his like fourth

(01:06:33):
season in the NBA, his first kind of breakout season,
if you will. The first year, the second year, I
think he played over seventy five games, and uh, he
came on with us from his iPad and like, couldn't
tell us, he texted me, couldn't tell us that he
had signed his contract. Like that's how like normal humble
he had been. But he came on with us, and

(01:06:54):
his contract was only four years, forty four million at
eleven million year, which obviously a lot of to us,
but to an NBAS what's a superstar, it's not a
ton of money. If if you want to make the
case that he hadn't gone through adversity, that's not accurate
considering the litany of injuries he played for. I believe
this is third head coach, right, Mark Jackson was the

(01:07:16):
second head coach, So he played for Jack Jackson, who
coach him his first year. I'm trying to think of
coaches first year in two thousand nine, two thousand and
ten was don Nelson. He played for it first but
for don Nelson Mark Jackson, like they went through coaching changes,
he went through injuries. He was on the trade block.
They offered him as part of the deal to the

(01:07:37):
trade away Monte Ellis. They're like, hey, pick one played
for Keith Smart as well. He Smart was the inner room.
I think I don't think he was a full I
don't he coached the full year. Yeah, Keith Smart did
coach full year. D do he played for four coaches
in four years? Or for four coaches four coaches than
five years. Like that's adversity. So like you can like

(01:07:58):
we're creating all these narratives like I don't actually exist.
Oh man, all right, he they're they're they're flashy like
on the court. Okay, maybe maybe they're a little flashy
on the court, but like they all wear T shirts
and gd You see Kevin rant when he's wearing last
night after the game, like wearing T shirts and jeans,

(01:08:20):
especially not by NBA standards. Fine, you know, like I like,
I'm just tired of seeing Steph Curry's wife like as
opposed to what his mistress like, you know, I'm please,
don't take me a saying he is, like he's legitimately
married with two kids, like a salted Like, I don't
what what do you? What do you want? Just like

(01:08:42):
stop finding things that dislike about people. It's so not healthy.
It's not healthy. You're you're saying, right, well, the thing
that I find interesting and you've touched on this before
as like a bigger point, like things that are congruent,
like people who take the same logic and apply to
other people. But I don't understand about the Steph Curry
hate is They're like, oh, he's grown up with privilege

(01:09:04):
like all this other stuff. How does that not apply
to Clay Thompson, who's in a very similar siglation. It
does a little bit, but he doesn't get as much.
Clay Thompson doesn't give as much attention. And not only that,
My question for you is, like, did people have this
same type of reaction for Kobe Bryant. He's he's not
of that what you would consider light skin, but his
father was a professional basketball player, grew up with privilege.

(01:09:25):
Like but he's just afferent. But we also tried to
act hood and for a long time. He first he
tried to be Michael Jordan's, like if you if you're
old enough to marry When he first came in the league,
like he walked like Jordan. His interviews, he sounded exactly.
It was like he studied Michael Jordan's and he was like, wait,
are you trying to be Michael Jordan's. He was trying

(01:09:46):
to be Michael Jordan's. But there were guys that didn't
like Kobe because he it's Look, that's the thing that
all of us do, right, we brag about how bad
it was, how poor we were. We grew up, you know,
Oh it's just so bad, so rough. I grew up
in the worst neighbor we're's dodging bullets. Oh yeah, you know,
it's like Rodney Dangerville line. Like I asked the I

(01:10:06):
asked the officer how how far I walked to the
subway station? He said, I don't know. Nobody's ever made
it right. I grew up in a bad neighborhood. Bad neighborhood.
I closed my mom told me to close the window.
Always put it down somebody's fingers, you know, things like that.
I guess I just don't understand that if it if
the idea that some people have an issue with is like, oh, well,

(01:10:30):
Steph Curry, you know, didn't come come up as tough
as we did. Like there's plenty of other players in
the NBA who came from a similar background as Steph Curry,
but they don't take as much of an issue with him.
And in basketball, I would say this, like basketball especially
is more of a street game, and yeah, there is
a if you grew up you know, if you grew

(01:10:53):
up with money, guys will take shots at you. It's
just they inherently think yourself. Look callip guys from people
from California. We're supposed to be soft for a long time,
right always from Cali. He soft like pulp. Here's not soft.
He's from California. Like I kind of go through guys
that are from California that aren't soft. Karambus is from California,

(01:11:14):
Like he was soft. Hammer you. It's clothesline, clothesline. I'm
not saying there's not the anti staph Curry, but like
we're really trying hard to not like a guy like oh,
I hate the fact that he's married with two kids
and they his wife has a cookbook, Like, Okay, would

(01:11:35):
you prefer lamar odom? Is that you know? Is that
the lifestyle that you prefer? Yeah, I don't know. We're
reaching so hard. Just like I don't like him because
he's not on my team. Right, he celebrates when he
shoots threes. Yeah, because that's what you don't like, you'd

(01:12:00):
like as it celebrate when they shoot bake three. Okay,
let me get you in here real quick. Jay, you're
on the dug Outlet show go ahead. J Yeah. So
my mom coming is I don't think it's necessarily black
people hating stuff. Curry, you know, game recognized game Steph
Curry is an all time great player. So it's KD.

(01:12:21):
The problem is when the narrative starts and you know,
I hate ESPN, but they they the ones that started
all this is KD better than Lebron talk. So in
defense of Lebron, people are attacking Steff and they're attacking
k D. But it's really not them attacking their game
or their person or anything like that. It's really just

(01:12:42):
defending Lebron. James, how does the guy average thirty three
six twelve twelve rebounds tennisis and the other guy Because
he's on a better team. He's all of a sudden
better than Lebron James. That's all we're saying is Cleveland
fans as Lebron James fans get the narrative right, the
oldest taste, the better team. J who played j who
played better? The numbers, numbers? He has anyone ever average

(01:13:11):
a triple double one finals history. Yes, I thought Jerry.
He's the first player too, He's the first ever. They lost.
They lost. I don't care they lost. So again, my
question is to you, honestly, did he outplay Kevin rant
in game one? Did play play him in three games? Okay?
So they played five? Yeah, play okay? So to get

(01:13:33):
weight he outplayed him? Last side, I would say, Lebron
I played. You gotta understand Lebron's playing forty six out
of forty eight minutes, k D playing forty minutes, okay,
so he should he should have. He should have had
more minutes. He should have he should have better stats.
If you played more minutes, you should have more points.
You should have. And they were separated, of course, because
he played more minutes. Last year he led everyone and

(01:13:54):
everything this year. The only thing he didn't leave everybody
and was in points. Katie average a couple more points.
He has a better team. Dog. Come on, man, I
understand you want people to call into your show like me.
I'm like rate getting ready to go to work, sitting
in the parking lot and work. But come on, man,
let's be honest for real. Okay. Two things. Two things.
Best thing you'd never tell radio hosts. I'm supposed to

(01:14:15):
be doing something else, but I can't because I'm listening
to your show. That's a that's a great compliment. Right,
that's like a right, that's like a woman post compiment
going like that was really good, Like that's a good compliment. Okay. Uh.
Second thing is like, dude, I'm telling you I I
watched the games. I would say, if you want to
tell me that last night it was a push, I'd
be okay with that. But Durant was definitively better three

(01:14:37):
of the games and and all honestly, like, Durant statistically
had a great game for much like Lebron had great
stats the first three games, But no one gives Durant
credit for when he has good stats and his team
gets housed, like his team isn't that much better now?
His team might be at better pieces. How much better
is his team? What last comment? Seriously? You know, like
I know when you go to the playground, you know,

(01:14:59):
and honest fall is your career. You know what I'm saying.
You've got the five best players, you should run the court.
Of course, where you going to the court? Okay, you
got guys that go to the court, they don't care
who they play with, They just want a ball. Then
you got the guys that go sit on the bench
and they wait till their boy to show up so
we can dominate. That's what going to state is done.
It's a simple as that, But it's done. But the
but the most the most that that's that's that's true.

(01:15:21):
The most fun thing, though, is when the other team
has better players and you still want you still run
the court. That's actually the more fun thing. But anyway, Hey,
j I appreciate call any time. Okay, get to work,
but I don't want to be the reason you get fired,
right Jay, I'm I'm guessing he's calling for dating. He's
not third shifts in just yet? What did the fox say?
Wait till Clay you hear what Clay Travis thinks he
can fix about the NBA salary cap. That's next. What

(01:15:46):
true car? You can find out what other people in
your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used? Is the true car to enjoy more
confident car buying experience. Doug Olive Show, Fox Sports Radio.
I love this, Darryl uh Darryl tweets me, Darrell J. Griffith,
that's not Dr Duncanstein. Come on, Doug, Lebron is better.

(01:16:06):
Clearly Katie runs with three not two all stars. Braun
still had had similar, if not better numbers. Like look,
if you want to tell me stats, that's cool. I
can bring up second half and fourth quarter stats are
all better. Win lost stats are all. But you know,
we all watched the games like stats are for like
if you didn't watch again, like I watched the games.

(01:16:27):
Dran was better at the more important time. It was
better in game one. Yeah, it was better in game two.
Yeah it was he better in game three? Yeah, like,
oh he was? Lebron was better in game three? Like
was he was? He He made ten of his first
eleven shots and he made five out of his next
what was it fifteen shots or sixty five of the
next sixteen shots five of his next sixteen shots. So

(01:16:51):
after like the first twelve minutes of the game, who
was better? I didn't know we handed out awards for
who was the best first quarter player in this series?
We didn't. And the reason that we started the a
Katie might actually be better is because it appeared to
be that way throughout the five games of the playoff
of the series. It's not crazy talk. Scooter Jeanette is

(01:17:13):
gonna join us upcoming at the top of the hour.
Do you know who Scooter Jenette is? Ryan, You've been
working on this one for a week, so you did.
When I texted you, did you? I said, I want
Scooter Gette. Of course I wanted him when he had
n RB. I had you had any idea who he
was before the Romist? You know he is? I did? Yes,

(01:17:35):
you knew he was before the ten RB. I that's correct,
you did, yes, because we've had him on before in
previous years on this network. Really yes, why I don't
know why if he was ever on before. Let's get
We'll get Clay Travis next hour. That's what we're doing
in time to Dan Buyer, uice Scooter Jeanette outside of

(01:17:58):
you tell me anything outside of the ten r B
I that he had. Yeah, he played for the Brewers,
so oh he's a brea. He was drafted by the
brewersund and not only that, he was in studio here
as a guest. So it wasn't just a phone booking guest.
Who book Scooter in studio? He was He was late though,
that was the problem. He showed up. He shot up late.

(01:18:18):
The show was over. John had him on his podcast, John,
you want to go out the employ for your podcast,
it's uh, the John Romo's podcast. And uh, right after
this show's over, Doug, why did you have Scooter Janette on?
I just I'm struggling with this. Outside the fact he
played for the Brewers and he's a major league player,

(01:18:39):
that's it. That was the That was the hook. Probably
an agent tie in, you knoww those things go when
when when you're when you're don when you're a guest
book you're like, you know what, we'll take We'll take
him because you also represent this other guy that we want.
At some point, maybe that was it. Okay, Okay, that's

(01:19:01):
the Scooter Jeannette had. He went five for five, He
had four home runs in one game and the best part.
But I think his last hit was a Grand Slam.
It's like the greatest game to get a single hitting
game in recent memory in Major League Baseball. He'll join
us up coming next on the doug Otlip Show Fox
Sports Radio. What up, It's the Dug Outlap Show, coming

(01:19:33):
to you from the beautiful, beautiful studios of Fox Sports
Radio in sunny southern California. Do Do Do Do Do? Do? Do? Do? Do? Uh?
We have NBA champions. They are the Golden State Warriors.
They only lost one game. Um, and look, I think

(01:19:56):
so much of this is about putting the right team
in place individually, Like, is Steph Curry one of the
five best players in the NBA? Would you take Steph
Curry individually over Kyrie Irving? For example? Is just in
a series? Like just one guy? One guy? Who would
you take? Would you take him over Russell Westbrook probably wouldn't.

(01:20:21):
Would you take him over James Harden? Maybe? I don't know.
James Harden disappeared in game seven, Game six, whatever it
was game five in game six, Like I could kind
of go through other players, which you probably rather have
them than Steph Curry, Like I don't know, Um, would
you like Clay Thompson is a great shooter and has

(01:20:42):
these explosive quarters and halves in the times games. He's
a really good defender, but as he honestly is he
one of the top ten players in the NBA to
fifteen players in the NBA, probably not great to a
player Draymond Greeny told you before. Are awesome role player,
but not one of the top fifteen guys in the NBA.

(01:21:05):
Andre Goodala former star in the league with seventy sixers teams,
but that that was years ago. That was years ago.
The truth is Andrea Goodala is a shell of his
former self, and he's not a particularly good shooter. I mean,
when when teams are trying to make you shoot like
that's there, the goal of their defense is to make

(01:21:26):
you shoot the basketball, that's not usually that good a
sign for how good a shore you are. When Andrew
Godala was a star in Philadelphia, like a legit star,
that was back in two thousand nine, you know, I mean,
we're not gonna two thousand nine. We're in two thousand

(01:21:50):
and seventeen. Now two seventeen. It's it's kind of been
a while, Like, oh, Andre Goodala could be a star
anywhere else and like, no, he couldn't, no, and actually
he couldn't. He's in the perfect What this is is
it's a really well put together team. Biguadala is thirty

(01:22:10):
two years old. He has an average double figures since
he came to the Warriors. He in in Denver. In
eighty games in Denver, he averaged thirteen games. That's in
twelve thirteen. In Philadelphia, his last two years he averaged
fourteen and thirteen. He had never he averaged twenty points
a game in O seven oh eight. That's O seven

(01:22:33):
o eight Philadelphia, Oh seven oh eight. What year was that?
Oh that was? That's O seven O eight. I just
want to make sure, make sure I checked what what
exactly what year that was? And by the way, that
was a five dred team forty and forty two. Wasn't
like they were a dominant player, like you know, like

(01:22:56):
he's always been a good player, but now at thirty
two years old, as a guy who shoots thirty from
three but only on wide open ones and um, he
shoots lay ups and dunks, plays really good versatile defense,
and he's the perfect role player. He's a star role player.

(01:23:20):
I think the we get so caught. It's crazy because
here's what happens. Kevin Durant can't be the best player
because he's surrounded by all these great players. But all
these guys are considered great players because of all the
players they're correct surrounded by. It's a vicious cycle. That's
a catch twenty two, isn't it. Draymond Green is only

(01:23:43):
UH top three, second or third team NBA guy because
he plays in might, because he plays with these other
guys and they win all these games. But we can't
consider Kevin Durant the best player in the game because
he plays all these guys like that doesn't make any
sort of sense to me. Yes, right, It's similar to
what we talked about with the Kyle Korver play. Right,
you say Lebron is the best player, He's better than

(01:24:05):
during He's the best player in the world, and the
reason they lost is because his teammates are not as
good as the Warrior's teammates. If the Bron is the
best player and his teammates earned as good as the Warriors,
why is it the smart play to pass the ball
to Kyle Corver on the game winning shot? I guess
because the one thing he's brought there to do is
to make three point shots, and he was. It was
a fairly open although it wasn't open for long three
point shot. That's the but I generally agree with your argument,

(01:24:28):
like a semi contested shot from the supposedly the best
player in the NBA, or in this case, to drive
to the lane is a You're more likely to get
fouled and to maybe have an and one than you
are to make a three point shot that would end
up being contested. It wasn't as open as it seemed
at the time in which he made the pass. Look.

(01:24:50):
I thought Lebron was really good at times last night.
There were times which he got tired and he settled
for jump shots in opportune times. Part of that twenty
two to four run took some bad shots. Um. I
felt bad for Kyle Corver, but I feel like it's
one of those things that you can't analytics guys will

(01:25:10):
never understand because analytics guys believe that stats don't lie.
That if Kyle Corver is a fifty three point shooter,
you know, on corner three's, well, then he's a fifty
three point shooter on corner threes. But if you've never
taken shots like that of that magnitude in your life.

(01:25:32):
And if you've never had to play defense with that
sort of effort in intensity like its screws you up.
I'll give you a good little kind of pick up
all analogy here. Okay, So one of the hard parts
about being a guy who used to play basketball professional
basketball is whence people know who you are, there's like
an expect and you cover basketball, people have the expectation

(01:25:55):
that you've got to be good when you play pick up.
And there are times which like I haven't touched the
ball in a month and I out there and play,
and it's hard because you're more likely to make shots
early in a pickup game when you haven't been playing.
Then you are late in the pickup game, like you
want to get loose and get everybody's ball and move
the ball around and and not be the jerk that
comes out in the first time you touch it. You're

(01:26:16):
going one on one jacking. First you haven't touched the ball,
you're not as likely to make it. But also you
want to share the sugar a little bit another the hand.
The more you play, the more tired you get because
you're not really in shape right, So then even though
you're you're now loose. Now you're tired, so you're once
again less likely to make it. So even though you
might be the best guy on the court or one
of the best guys in the court and the guy

(01:26:36):
most likely when you're tired, you're more likely to miss.
So for Kyle Corver, the stats are, well, he makes
this percentage of three point shots from from a corner three,
he should always take that shot. But we've never seen
him in a game of that magnitude ever, And it's
fascinates me what and NBA coaches do the as well,

(01:27:00):
Like they take what a guy has been they take
the stats like, okay, it's it's all about and it's
all about arranging the chairs just so this guy's here,
this guy's there, that guy's there because of the percentages
when there really is no, uh no stats to show
you what a guy is gonna do in a situation
like that. And Corverate, who I love, is a fascinating

(01:27:22):
I don't know if you guys know, Like he does
this thing with his trainer where every year he tries
like he's he's paddle boarded out to like Catalina some
stuff like like he's done all kinds of crazy stuff.
He doesn't just to kind of keep it fresh. He's
an incredible self made shooter. But that was his chance.

(01:27:42):
He blew his chance, didn't play well in the series.
I was gonna say, so that makes a point about
about Kevin Durand even better is that the fact that
he did rise up in the occasion, like he didn't
like back down like he he he is and and
said I'm in the biggest show of the world and

(01:28:02):
now I'm gonna rise up and he'd be even better. Rahmis,
you just nailed a great point. Like the the part
that we have discussed the least about Kevin Durant is like, oh,
he's surrounded by all these guys in the most pressure
field situation of his career, going back to last year
in Game six he was terrible, but instead of having

(01:28:26):
that reverberate into this year, he was great. You can't
how could you possibly take shots to the guy that
under that much pressure, under that much dressed in games
that matter that much, with those type of expectations. He
shot from the field forty seven from three from the
free throw line. What more do you want him do?

(01:28:48):
Oh yeah, in his team one. Not quite Lebron like
or k D like, but for at least one game
he did something that no one in the hist three
of baseball has ever done. Scooter Genett joins us, and
I don't know if you if you look like last
week he was. He was player of the week right

(01:29:08):
for the National League, and in one game he had
four home runs, five hits, ten r B. I now
he's the first player ever to do that. And the
final hit was the Grand Slam. So now we're like
a week removed because it was getaway Day, was like
last Wednesday. We wanted him right then and schedules didn't
line up and we had the Scooter Genett joins us

(01:29:28):
in the Doug Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio. Scooter, how
are you. I'm doing great, Doug, Thanks for having me on. Dude. Um, so,
how has your life changed since this incredible night? Well,
it was definitely the first time I saw my uh
you know, my name in my face all over ESPN
and all that, So it's it's been a little different. Um,

(01:29:50):
you know, the autograph guys are still they're still after
me like normal, but they just want me to put
uh you know, six six sevent team four home runs
kind of RB. I's on the ball now, so that's
a little different. Okay, So here's here's how I look
at Like, look, you're having a nice career obviously, and
you're having a very good year hitting over um, but
here's how I look at if, in fact, you are
a one hit wonder, you need to embrace that you

(01:30:14):
need to do because here's the thing, most of us
we never had that one hit. It's like, um, what's
what's the one hit wonder from your childhood? That's both
like hubba wamba, right, I get knocked down? But or
the Macarena? Remember the macarena? Or right said fred I'm
too sexy for my right? Do you remember that song?
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah that was that was a good one.

(01:30:35):
But yeah, you're right man. It's uh, you know, it's
definitely something that, um, I never expected to do. And
I don't really uh want to hold the standard at
you know, a four home own game every night for myself,
but um, but you know, I mean it's it's just
one of those things, uh, you know, obviously being the
first Red to do it, being a Reds fan growing up,
it's something that I'm gonna I'm gonna embrace, but at

(01:30:57):
the same point in time during the season, Uh, you know,
it's important to stay consistent, stay level headed, and um
obviously keep focused on winning ball games. So I'm gonna
take the personal stuff out of it for you know,
for a while. But once the off season comes around,
I might you know, get around and do some cool
stuff about you know, just the four home run game

(01:31:18):
and you know, embrace it. At that point, you guys
swept the Cardinals as part of that series, and you
go out, you're out here in l A and now
you're in San Diego, and you just got stumped, like what,
what's what's gone so wrong? Specifically with the pitching? I
mean seven, five, nine, nine, Like, guys getting lit a
little bit. What's gone on since you guys were dominant
over the Cards? Uh? You know that's the thing, man,

(01:31:39):
that's baseball. You know. At times you're you're like, man, like,
we might not lose the game for the rest of
the year. And then there's times we're like, man, I
we can't even score a run. So you know, that's
just baseball. Uh. I think that we we have a
lot of um, young talent on this team, we have
a lot of young players, uh, myself included. I mean,
I only got a few years in the big league,
so um, you know, that's why it's important to to

(01:32:03):
kind of learn from those mistakes and learn how to
handle those failures, uh in the minor leagues to where
when you get to the big leagues you can you
can control those as much as you as much as
you can. And I think that's what lately, that's what's
been going on. Man, Just you know guys that you know,
we're young that that are going out there and they're
they're trying to earn a spot, they're trying to maybe
some time to do a little bit too much and

(01:32:25):
and you know, then you kind of get out of
what works for you. So I think there's some uh,
you know, there's some learning going on with with some
of the guys up here, myself included. And uh, we
also have a lot of vesteran presence on this team too,
with Rosloria Scott, Feldman, Joey Votto, coz are Um. So
there's a good mix of of you know, experience and

(01:32:47):
you know in rookies. So I think as the season
goes on, we're just gonna um continue to put all
those pieces together, and and there's a lot of there's
a lot of upside with with our team. There's a
lot of talent in the minor leagues in the Reds organization.
So the future is definitely bright and we're all excited.
Obviously got under green um last night, so you know,

(01:33:09):
the future is looking bright and and we're just excited
to come to the ballpark every day and and get better.
You mentioned Joey Votto, Scooterageett, joint Uman since they Red
of course, going back to last week had just a
historic night four home runs, ten r BiH to go
on with five hits. Um, Joey I have, I have
some friends in baseball, tell me, like, Joey is the
most incredibly technical guy, Like he is constantly working to

(01:33:32):
perfect even at first base was a gold Club first basement,
Like he worked this offseason on being better. What what
has what has he done this year that you've noticed
that he's technically continued to improve upon. Well, this is
the first year that I've actually got a chance to
really get to know Joey. Being with the Brewers. I
talked to him a little bit when he would get

(01:33:52):
on base, which it seemed like every time. So we
had some talks uh then, but but just getting to
know me, and it was really it was really great
to see a guy that's you know, at his status,
that's at the top of the game, that's um, you know,
a franchise player who's making you know, the money that

(01:34:12):
he isn't and he is not satisfied with just being
you know, average or not getting better each day. And
that's something that's really refreshing to see because I mean,
all throughout sports, sometimes guys they get deals and they
just kind of like, all right, you know, I'm making
my money and that's it. It's like this guy is
extremely hard on himself and expects greatness, which it's just

(01:34:39):
so awesome to see as a young player, and it's
something that I look up to. It's like, Wow, here's
a guy that's that's you know, making millions, that is
in the cage, you know, bussing his but every single
day if he gets out, he's he's truly you know,
upset about it. He's not like, oh whatever, you know,
I'm making him you know, millions of dollars. So it's

(01:35:00):
really refreshing to see. And I had something that I
definitely look up to and and yeah, man, he's he's
very consistent in his work ethic, he expects um, he
expects a lot out of himself, which which obviously he
set the bar pretty high. So, uh, just just seeing
that and getting to know him more and more each day,
I learned a lot from him. He's an extremely smart player,

(01:35:23):
but also obviously he's very talented too, So it's definitely
been a pleasure to play with him. As far scoot
scooters yet joining us in the Doug Gotlip Show, I
I got, I got about a minute a minute or
so left. Okay, So here's how you gotta tell the story,
like ten years from now. Okay, So first first home
run was off? Who what do you throw you? No? No, no, no, no,

(01:35:43):
no no, not your first home run ever. That's pretty
awesome that Bronson's on your team. That was your first
ever home run? Yeah? Um, she hit it off? Wayne?
Would you hit what was cutter? Cutter? Inside? That was
the Grand Slam? I thought that was the last. I
thought you had a Grand Slam last though, No you yeah,
grand Slam? Last second one? What I think was a

(01:36:06):
two run off. I'm not sure, dude, you gotta go back,
and you gotta go back and remember this kind of stuff.
This is important. You gotta like this is part of
what this is part of what makes like the story
even better. Do you want me to walk you back
through the through the game. I can do it for
you if you'd like. I have the I have the
stats in front of me. But like this is these
are the things you gotta know, Scooter, you gotta go like, yeah,

(01:36:27):
I remember Waynewright tried that weak cutter on me. He
didn't he didn't want to throw me Uncle Charlie right,
and he went over the curveball and grew me the cutter,
and I just deposited it, right, Like, you have to
learn how to tell this story. And by the time
you get to be like fifty and you got like
grandkids running around or whatever. Now it's got to be
eight home runs in the game. Can't be four home
runs in the game. Oh man, Oh jeez, yeah, I'll

(01:36:48):
definitely work on it. It's honestly, man, it's kind of
a blurk just through the whole night. I just know
that the um the last three we were you know,
awful guys that were you know, I've never faced before,
so I'll definitely look back and learn their names. Let's
tell Dant Dant Pitt. Gant was the second one, Okay, okay.

(01:37:10):
John Gant was the second one, and the third one
and the last one I believe was off of uh yeah,
John Brabia. Yes, John Baree. Skim It's it's skim. But
you know you played in that that band box hey man,
congrats on the night. Let's get a win tonight in
uh in San Diego. And thanks for joining us. I

(01:37:32):
appreciate guys, all right, that Scooter Jeanette joining us. God
it needs to be a better story teller about the
greatest night in his life. Clay Travis on the Salary
cap next Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Usually we
do this in the second hour of the show, so
satellite radio missed out today just because we didn't have time.
But I think we have a great line up. I

(01:37:53):
think we have interesting people that say interesting things or
have interesting guests that have interesting takes. We're trying to
up the best of the best together and present to you.
What does the Fox U uh uh yeah, you got it.
Claiy Travis had this like the reason the NBA, the

(01:38:17):
NBA teams are not as deep as they used to
be is because so many of them are top heavy
with salary issues because of the salary cap. Clay Travis
has this idea for fixing that problem. The NBA should
have a salary cap, but they should have at least
one player on every team who isn't maxed out in

(01:38:37):
the salary cap. In other words, a team should be
able to pay as much money as they possibly want
for one player. If that happened, then I believe the
era of super teams would basically end because in my plan,
in the NBA keeps tweaking the the the the salary cap.
They've got the luxury tax and everything else. But Lebron

(01:38:58):
James this year was probably worth a hundred million dollars.
He made around thirty million. That means that effectively, he's
paying a seventy million dollar tax on his earnings because
he's artificially capped as to what he can make. Look
that all that sounds good? Okay, that's that's Clay Travis.
The uh what does he consider himself? He's obviously capitalist, right,

(01:39:23):
And Clay t I was thinking, like, this is a
tax situation, this is a union negotiated deal, and that
will never happen because the NBA owners will be like, fine,
but they would hammer the players somewhere else. They have
to make money, and many of them don't make a
ton of money on the on the day to day
because their their expenses continue to uh uh to explode.

(01:39:46):
Now they're making more money with the TV deals than
they did previously. But the most money you make is
on the value of the franchise, not in the day
to day operations. And if there's no sound and oh yeah,
by the way, there's always going to be some sort
of loophole, right and as much as you have I
go that would shut cut down on on team on

(01:40:09):
on teams, yeah, but it would also in some ways
prohibit player movement. And by the way, what happens the
teams that have two superstar players? Right? So who do
you pay with your your few of the Warriors? You
pay Kevin Randy, you pay Steph Curry? Why can't you
split up the unlimited thing? What happens when you're unlimited

(01:40:30):
guy gets hurt? Or what happens you're unlimited guy isn't
as good as he thought he'd be, or what if
what happens when you pay your unlimited guy and unlimited
some money and he turns out to be a total
turd and you want to get rid of him. And
and look, salary caps are there not for the richest players,
but for the everyday wage earners. Look, all you have

(01:40:54):
to do is look historically, the NFL had a season
without a salary cap. Do you remember it? Do you
remember what happened during the season, and be like, oh, costs,
contracts are going to explode. It's gonna be crazy. NFL
team spent less because with no ceiling, there's no floor,

(01:41:14):
so they can pay minimum earners as little as they want.
You know, salary cab fine. So with with with any
salary cap, there's give and take. And the reason that
and like, look, the max contract thing is is cute,
is clever even now, even now, like there's guys that

(01:41:38):
get max contract money, Like what he's worth, what this
whole thing could be avoid the way lebron makes it
up as an endorsement deals, the way all the guys
make it up. He's the second highest paid athlete in
the entire world to next to Cristiano Ronaldo, who makes
more because of endorsement and and his his contract, he
plays a lot more games as well, or actually no,

(01:41:59):
he don't think he plays him against play in front
of bigger crowds. Um. The way in which Lebron could
have had a better team was take less money instead
of taking more. Take less. Nobody's disputing that he's worth
being the highest page by the ways, highest pay play
in the NBA. He's worth it fine. But had he
taken less, and had he demanded that other players who

(01:42:21):
play with him, you guys all take less and we're
gonna win more, he would have a better team around him.
He didn't, and so is goose is cooked. If you will,
sam Ammy joins us. Just around the corner, we'll ask
the USA Today NBA insider, how does this cause Chris
Paul to react, Gordon Hayward to react? And what do

(01:42:44):
the Calves do to keep up with the Joneses? I e.
The Warriors find out if we find out what's trending?
Doug Olive show, Fox Sports Radio. It is on the list,
You're right, Sam Ammick joins us from USA Today, Sam
who who played better Kevin Rander, Lebron James. I'm gonna

(01:43:04):
give it to Kevin doug um Lebron was great. You know,
your average trouble double. But you talk about moments, you
talk about momentum and timing, and also you're talking about
a Warrior's team that you know, I know the hypothetical
game is hard to play, but if if Kevin's down
on that team, I'm not sure they survived. And that

(01:43:27):
that's a great sam I want to stop you. That's
a great point that you make. There is an assumption
that's made post championship that they were gonna win a
championship anyway because they won seventy three games last year,
And that's just like, I don't we don't we don't
think of the Celtics as being the best team in
the East this year because their regular season record. Why
do we think of the Warriors being the best team
last year when they didn't win it just because the

(01:43:49):
regular season record. Like, there's no telling what they would
have done with with Harrison Barnes if they even kept
Harrison Barnes had they not gotten to rent. I mean
they also sacrifice. This gets forgotten to uh And you
know the fans who don't like him, they don't want
to hear this. They don't care about the nuance, but

(01:44:09):
you know, you had a major overhaul on the roster,
a lot of guys who ended up getting sent out
of town from Andrew Bogan on down and Barnes and
the Andrew Barbosa, the guys like that. They were key
parts of what they did last year and they had
to reach out on the head to retool. And uh,
I mean I just in a vacuum though. You look
at these finals and again, I just Kevin Durant, he

(01:44:30):
just got it done and Steph's had one bad game
and uh, and they can afford for that to happen
because you've got a guy like k D by his side. Um.
I found it just fascinating to hear about some of
the things Draymond has said to k D, some of
things Draymond has said to Steph, and like, look, I
don't think Draymond is a Hall of Fame player, and

(01:44:51):
I think part of what Cleveland want to do is
make him score and he's just not. But he's a
Hall of Fame role player if possible. You know, he
just does you know, whether it's creating ace for uh
Steph when he drives down the lane, he's ability to
guard multiple positions, but more than anything, like what I
found in the post championship commentary is what an incredible
vocal leader he is behind the scenes more than anything,

(01:45:15):
for sure. I mean, you could argue, if you want
to have the m VP debate in the context of
excuse me, Doug, just the Warrior season, you could argue
that his Draymond, which sounds crazy when you're talking about
the you know, absolute lock hall of famers like Steph Curry,
Kevin Durant, but in terms of their culture and in
terms of how this team was built and the messaging

(01:45:35):
behind the scenes and the fabric of the team, no
voice has been heard as consistently, as loudly and as
meaningfully as Draymond's. And he was the lead recruiter on
Kevin Durant was. By the way, this other guy doesn't
get enough credit. Adrea Goodala was right there. He was
important as well. But he has connected with Steph Curry
in a way where those guys created that culture together.

(01:45:58):
He's been fantastic and the defensive identity that he brings,
and as flashy as they are, high powered as they
are offensively, the defense still gets overlooked. They are you know,
either one or two with defensive entirely, and that's partly
how they got this job done. You know, sam Ammy
join us FM USA today. Uh. It's fascinating because I
think people think of them as a super team, like
they're throwing out. I just think they're so perfectly put together.

(01:46:21):
Like Andre Goodala played power forward and center most most
of last night and that's how he had twenty points.
And uh, the Calves made him score, and he did score.
But he's in like the perfect situation and the perfect role,
and they use him at those smart places on the
floor so he can he can be effective. Al Right,
So the question becomes like, look, Cleveland has plenty of

(01:46:41):
star power and they have plenty of quality role players,
but it feels like, uh, they can't expose the lack
of size on Golden State enough. With Kevin Love, he
just he's become more of a three point shooter than
anything you can get other three point shooters for less money.
Is he the guy who gets moved this season order
to keep up with the with the Joneses? I think

(01:47:04):
if we're handicapping it for sure, I mean to hear
Kyrie Irman talked last night about his relationship with Lebron,
and then also to talk to people with the Calves
about how they look at Lebron and Kyrie is to
feel pretty confident that that dynamic duo is not going
anywhere anytime soon. So you look at Kevin and the
tone of that narrative in the subplot with him, it's

(01:47:25):
changed because it used to be all about his failings
and his inability to fit in and whether or not
that might lead to a trade. Now I think we
got to acknowledge that he's been a good fit. He
gotta ring. He's had some very good moments in these playoffs,
but they have to upgrade. And there's a value for
the guy like Kevin Love that's not there with most
of the other guys in that roster. They could, you know,
end up getting you back something in return. I don't

(01:47:47):
know what that looks like, you know, certainly, I think
we're probably all going to be speculating over the summer
about whether or not Lebron can get one of his
buddies to town, whether it's Carmelo or you know, he
made something like that. But but Kevin is the guy
try and watch for sure that has the value, and
it maybe use him to to pivot and do something new,
be fascinating. Okay, So then the question becomes, how does

(01:48:07):
the NBA react, Because all those guys are watching, even
if they're on vacation, they understand how much the narrative
has changed. K D goes from a trader to hey,
wait a second, maybe he's the best player in the
NBA and it's all because of the stage that he's
playing on and the fact that he has the right
pieces around him so that he can he can be
the best possible version of himself. Does that cause Chris

(01:48:29):
Paul to leave and say, like, look, if I got
to go on a hunt to play in that NBA
finals so people can finally see how good I am,
it might I think Chris is front and center right
now in terms of you know that the top candidate
to make that kind of move. I was firmly in
the camp that he was going nowhere. The Clippers have
a high level of confidence that he's going to resign.

(01:48:51):
A lot of it is personal, not even professional. His
family loves l a very comfortable got kids that love
their schools, things like that. But if you're a guy
like Chris Paul and and you know, Father Time has
been knocking on your door for a while. He's still
playing at a high level. You just might need to
think outside the box. You might need to get out
of your comfort zone if you think that basketball wise,
that one situation out there like San Antonio is potentially

(01:49:14):
better than what the Clippers can get done. And the
scary thing for the rest of the league because I
don't know where the conversation goes from there in terms
of potential guys who could make that kind of a boot.
You know what I mean with this free agency class
right now? Go ahead, Gordon Ayward, go to Boston if
you want to. You know, the Celtics are not scaring
the Warriors with Gordon next year. Um, even the Spurs.

(01:49:36):
I would love to see it. I think Kawaii and
Chris Paul together would be fantastic, But I'm still picking
the Warriors in that scenario right now. I think that's
kind of the message and the shot across the Bouts
and the rest of the league is these guys aren't
going anywhere anytime soon, and now they've gotta figure out
what to do. How big a problem is that for
the league? And I bring it up because and I
know Adam Silver has has defended players and he's been

(01:49:57):
the player commissioner um. And I know that the numb
bers for the individual games of the finals have been very,
very good, but there weren't enough playoff games, and that's
where you get the highest ratings, right, I mean, the
Warriors played seventeen and the Calves played eighteen, Like those
are their cash cows for ESPN and Turner. And and
now you go forward to next year, and because this

(01:50:19):
year's regular season was not really indicative at all as
to exactly how the league really was, right like why
would anybody pay any attention to some of these regular
season games? And they got more games on than ever
going forward with the new TV deals, this seems like
it's a legit long term or that maybe short term problem,

(01:50:41):
even though in the short term we also have a
potential dynasty brewing within Golden State and frankly within Cleveland
as well. Yeah, the league that you know, their feedback
on that front has been interesting, Like you said, they'll
in the in the short term, the first thing they're
gonna do is make sure they email you the TV
rating which are off the charts. In fact, they just
announced a couple of minutes ago, you know that there

(01:51:04):
was another banner Finals. I think, uh, you know best
since nine I believe they said. But the bigger picture
is you talk about volume, the quantity of games, and
the ripple effect on the finance. That's big. And this
is probably a deeper media interview type thing, but you've
got the st n T n T contract where the

(01:51:24):
leagu's got its money. It's the networks who are gonna
just take a beating on this. And then you've got
the fact that that as a partner and as the
n b A, you do want to have a successful
with situation as possible. Um. I'm torn on it though,
because I do think that dominance cells. I do think
that dynasties are compelling, and you know, maybe not as
less drama as people want, but while you're kind of

(01:51:48):
there interesting a ton of characters, and you know, and
how that question of what is the rest of is
drama and it's all right, and we're all gonna have
to wait and see how things untold and how all
these other teams responsible. Sam, great stuff, It was a
great Finals. Appreciate your coverage and look forward to your
coverage of the NBA Draft. Thanks so much for joining
us on the Doug Gotlieb Show. Sam Ammick from USA Today.

We'll get to that up coming next. Broadcasting live from

(01:52:52):
All the phone calls for now, let's let's get you
updated on some of the stories you might have missed.
Let's dig in as many as possible. Let's go of
the press, the press, Dan Buyer what he got from it? Well,
we can start out a Major League Baseball Doug. How
about that? Because as we lead up to the All

(01:53:13):
Star Game, we get voting results every Monday and Tuesday
on how balloting is going. And today it's the American
League's turn. Aaron Judge extending his lead over Mike Trout
for the overall lead as he is the leading vote
getter in the American League. Yankee Slugger, joined in the
outfield by Trout who's not gonna play because he's injured,
and the Astros George Springer. Should be noted that the Astros,
who didn't have any starters a couple of weeks ago,

(01:53:34):
with the best record in baseball now would have three
A voting ended today, But Aaron Judge, far and away
the most popular American league. Here comes the Judge. Ball
for a Ron have all the things I've ever seen?
Roger Clevins is in Gods Dad bet his box of

(01:53:55):
all the things that I haven't seen. Um, that's not
even a heavy lifting all ras. Well, the Judge, he
had another rocket out of the big a last night
that still hasn't landed. He hits balls that need to
have a stewardess on it. Um. I think Aaron Judge
can kind of say baseball regular season baseball, like I
like postseason baseball, but like regular season baseball, why would

(01:54:17):
you watch? You have to has to be a big
name team. Yankees. Your big name team Yankees are a
team to which you're you in. You either love or hate,
and there's gotta be it. There's gotta be a guy
that you haven't seen a bunch of and preferably we
like seeing the long ball. And then you watched his
batting practice like makes you want to go to the
yard early. I used to go to the big a early,

(01:54:39):
sit out in left field try and catch home run balls.
Now I would do it with Aaron Judge in town.
Uh he's he's fantastic and if the season were in
the day it doesn't he'd be The m v P
Yankees are quite the story. So well bad there, let's
move on. Dodgers place first baseman Adri Gonzalaz on the
ten dadal with two hernie Into discs in his back.

(01:55:01):
I was trying to find the Susan Waldman call that
you had. That's that saying. I thought we thought we
had it in the in the system, and I probab
with John is he can't see a long fly ball
is called at second base. Uh, John, ball's here like

(01:55:24):
a rocket. Oh, one of one of the greats, one
of the greats. The Dodgers plays first base when they drink.
Gonzalas at the ten daie dl with two hernie Ado
discs in his back. Now that's from Gonzalez. Dave robert
said today it's not gonna need surgery. Hasn't made a
great start to the season, as Gonzalez already was on
the d L. Once asked if he's gonna be back
before the All Star break, Dave Roberts says, they're not

(01:55:45):
gonna put a timetable on it, but Adrian Gonzala is
gonna miss some time. That's not good to herniated disc
in his back. Yeah, that's what he says. That's that's bad.
I mean, like that's bad. One is bad enough too,
is really really crippling for a guy who's just he's
kind of got and Ernie El's type of swing right,
just smooth, almost effortless with how he hits a baseball. Um,

(01:56:07):
but the Dodgers did, We pointed out they demolished, demolished
since they read when they came to town. So no
worse for the wear. Alex has special balls. That's a
little Susan Walman. Yes, there we go about Alex Rodriguez. Um.
Following rain and thunder storms on Monday, the ground screw
at Aaron Hills for this week's US Open started to
do some trimming of the fescue. Doug Now, this was

(01:56:27):
planned because what they don't want is the fescue to
be matted down and it could be impossible to even
find the ball. Well. Rory mcarror responded to the news
that some of the fescue was being trimmed done some holds.
These are the whitest fareaways we've ever played in the
US Open, and even the first and second cut it's
another ten yards on top of that. So if you've

(01:56:47):
got fifty or sixty yards to hit into and you're
complanting up with the fescue that's whititer than that. I mean,
I don't think that's an issue. I get that it's
thick and whatever, but I mean it's a hazzard again COVID. Yeah,
if you can't get another fairway, go home. I mean,
isn't that the story with the U s Open. Hasn't
it always been that way. They've changed the setups, but
it's wider fairways this year. It's not as tight because

(01:57:10):
the they've got more room to work with. I think
it'll actually go over really well over the next couple
of days or so, but the fescue will be a
problem if you hit it in the junk. Um. Yeah,
I don't want to get hitting the junk either, I
mean yeah, uh yeah. Look here's what they're trying to do. Okay,

(01:57:31):
it used to be par winds right or one under,
and they're reacting to all the rest of the sports
have been bonused. But as I've seen a bump because
they've had rules that create more offense. That's why the
US Open is going to more of a p G
A set up, aren't they. I mean they want more scoring,
which only brings me back to the tournament which has gone,

(01:57:53):
which used to precede the U s Open, which has missed.
Do you remember the International they had the modified stable
flood system which gave you extra points for going for
an eagle, and it was in Colorado, so you know
you had like three hundred six hundred yard par fours
and dudes, you're driving the green right. I missed the
modified And I'm telling you, offense wins in sports trading.

(01:58:14):
It'll be more fun this week. Finally, a woman in
Wyoming arrested for stealing almost two thousand dollars worth of
merchandise from a Walmart. She claimed that she was doing
a research paper on kleptomania. So that's why she left
with three TVs? What else is there to do in Wyoming? Right?
Three TVs? Yeah? Is there any like? Research? Dougets research?

(01:58:34):
Televisions have become incredibly useless, backing out there and pressed,
not a really good not a really good TV. I'm valueless, right,
Like you can buy a really nice TV for a
couple hundred bucks a couple ducks. All right, I'll be
hosting The Herd tomorrow check me out on FS one.
Dan and Jonas will be hosting this show. It's called
The Doug Gottlip Show. It's on Fox Sports Radio one.
