Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio, booon, Yes that Oh hey,
hey Jonas, Jonas, look who's back rams right as well? Guys,
the numbers just in when we were at the on Wednesday,

(00:21):
well they were with us highest ratings ever. So just
music is a bridge between the material and spiritual, highest
ratings ever. And I'd like to thank mel anton for
all of that. To let you hand out of the
mel anton And joke. He is one of the best

(00:42):
baseball insiders that there is, Okay, but during the All
Star break, when baseball is the only thing going on,
we have put him on an eighty hour week here
on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, So that is the That
was the running joke that mel anton And seemed to
be on every show because he's got great opinions and
great insights, and we just complete lee overworked him for
the last week and a half. Yeah. In fact, I

(01:03):
heard that he was so inspired by our performance a
couple of days ago that Antoine Walker is changing his
first name to anton And Walks. So I don't know
if anybody is as here that news, but I think
we just broke it. We'll have to ask him. Well
when he comes up in ten minutes. Um summer league
grolling on in the NBA and a Lonzo Ball again
grabbing the headlines of uh, grabbing the attention of not

(01:25):
only basketball fans, but of sports fans. And last night
the Lakers hyay, news flash, there's a summer league tournament
at the end of the summer league. Okay, yes, that
that happens. And when you're not paying attention the summer
league and I just think that they're playing a bunch
of games, but there is a summer league tournament. And
congratulations to the Lakers because they finally made the quarterfinals

(01:47):
of something. They are in the quarterfinals of the Summer
league bracket in Las Vegas and tonight faced the nets.
Last night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was the second
straight game that we raved about a Lonzo Ball's numbers. Okay,
the acres point guard sixteen points, ten rebounds, twelve assists.
That's a triple double to go along with five steels.

(02:08):
That on the heels of his performance earlier this week
against gosh, what was it the Sixers where he had
points rebounds, I mean, the Lonzo Ball hype train after
that stop against the Sacramento Kings where he didn't play,
is now rolling and rolling and rolling. And it's just
pretty amazing that Summer League of the NBA has grabbed

(02:30):
the attention of the sports fan like it has so far.
It was amazing. So last year during college basketball season,
his dad was all over talking about how great his
son was and how wonderful his son would be at
the next level, and and all these proclamations about the
greatness of his son, Lonzo Ball. And all I heard

(02:52):
from so many people was, man, shut up, what this
is ridiculous. Let your son play. Man stop over hyping him.
We don't need to hear about how great your son is.
And then here we are in July and everybody has
now taken the baton from LaVar Ball and are doing
the same thing. The only difference is when LaVar was

(03:14):
doing it, those games mattered. Okay, these are summer league
games against a bunch of guys who couldn't make the
w n B A And all of a sudden, I'm
supposed to believe because he changed shoes like he was
like he was putting on a went from Clark Kent.
I gotta be careful when you say that last name
Dan for Kent to Superman. All of a sudden, I'm

(03:34):
supposed to go. You know what, there it is, folks,
round of applause for a Lonzo Ball. He's done like
you were doing what LaVar Ball did a year ago.
All you people ball washing a Lonzo. Yet these games
don't count and those did. I don't get it. I'm lost.
There could be an argument, jonas Um to what you
are saying that quite possibly in the competition that a
Lonzo Ball was facing while at u c l A

(03:57):
is on par or maybe in some situations even better
than what he is facing now in the summer league.
And you're saying, well, wait a second, all these guys
are professionals. Not everybody who plays in college basketball is
a professional. So the talent level's got to be higher
in the NBA Summer League. But when you talk about
what's at stake, what people are doing, what you're doing
within a system, I think that the games in college

(04:19):
would tell more about, maybe than the growing pains that
some of these players are having, whether it be in
this system or your opponent. You may have an opponent
who's not knowing what he's doing, so your numbers may
actually look better in a summer League than they did
in college. And that's that's where we are with the
NBA Summer League is because it's been fresh and it's
been new that we're now really starting to to have

(04:40):
it become a part of our sporting life. I was
in a sporting cycle Jonas at one point in my
life where it was football and goulf okay, where if
from from September until February, all football, then you just
wait for the masters, wait for the US Open in June,
British Open, PGA Championship. But once the PJA Championship has done,
what do you know, You're act to football. But there

(05:01):
were some lulls in May. Okay. Now the NBA ended
up taking it's it's uh full court press, if you will,
on grabbing the fans attention. And now when you leave
football in February, you slide right into the NBA. A
lot of people slide right into the NBA, whether it
be on Christmas Day or even Halloween now paying attention
for the whole season. But it always ended on June.

(05:23):
That's when it always ended. When there was no free agency,
when summer leagues weren't a big thing. Summer league now
and even take free agency out of this. Take Lebron,
take Kevin Durant. Summer League now has become something that's
so intriguing over the last couple of years that we
are sitting there focusing on what these guys are doing,
when when really maybe three or four guys from the
Summer League team that you are that you are watching

(05:44):
are actually going to be on the team. It blows
my mind on how much it's it's ratcheted up levels
over the last three or four years. Oh, I was listen.
If I'm Adam Silver, I see what what I've got here,
and I go, you know what, how can I maximize this? Now?
I get it, you don't want to get guy is injured.
I totally understand that. But you've got an open window
and a sports calendar that you could dominate for every

(06:05):
single year to come. And a lot of people are
gonna point to, well, different draft class. You know, this
draft class is loaded. You know all these guys. Two
points to that, Now, you don't know all these guys.
You know a couple of these guys, one of them
you know because of LaVar Ball, So guess what what
he was doing worked. The other thing being all if
you look at the draft for what it is. You know,

(06:27):
the draft provides fans, It provides you hope. I mean
nobody like the majority. These guys aren't gonna pan out. Majority,
these guys aren't gonna be Hall of famers, but it
gives you hope. And so if I'm if I were
the like to take NFL draft for example, why is
the NFL draft much more popular than the NBA draft?
Because you know who the guys are when they come in.

(06:49):
You've been watching them in college on big time stages
for years, most of them. In the NBA, you've got
foreign players, you've got one and duns, and you've got
guys that play at schools that you're not really watching
until the mark manager of the tournament. The last two
number one picks didn't even play in the tournament. So
if I'm the n b A, I look at this
and I go, how can we get our fans more
familiar with these guys in this draft class Bingo Summer League.

(07:12):
Put everybody on that stage, make it a bigger deal.
Do what you've got to do if you're all about
building stars, and you can't really do it in college
because of the one and done stuff. Here's your opportunity.
And if I'm Adam Silver, it's never the same after this.
Star power is a big deal. I tweeted about a
week ago. By the way, I think this is the
last week you're gonna see these reversible jerseys. I think

(07:33):
that you could sell these your spot on and and
I think that you're going to see that whether Vegas
has some sort of Vegas angle or Salt Lake City
as theirs and or Lando playing in their cafeteria at
a high school, either that league, but you're gonna see
different jerseys. The star power is a big deal. And
star power is what dominates the NBA, and it's always
dominated the NBA. And I will say this Jonas that

(07:55):
I believe the reason for the emergence of the Summer
League has been because of the emergence of the cavalryers
in the Warriors. And as we look at that separation,
and we look at the separation that is existing in
the NBA between what is the top and now what
is near the top, there is a clear separation. The
Summer League now has allowed us, as basketball fans of

(08:17):
teams that maybe aren't very good to whither actually see
what our future could be and see who the future
stars could be. The Lakers have been wanting a big
three ever since Koby left, and and they've been off
of the last few years. High draft picks allowed them
to maybe dream that they would get a big three.
This is the first look all these other teams are wondering, now, hey,

(08:37):
did we draft a guy who could be one of
a third of our big three that we bring in.
That is what's drawing it in, and and and when
you talk about the non existent competition that was in
the playoffs. At least this gives fans hope. The NBA
playoffs didn't give fans any hope whatsoever, because you knew
if you were a fan of the Raptors or the Bucks,
or the Utah Jazz or the Memphis Grizzlies that even

(09:00):
if you were lucky enough to advance to the next round,
that you weren't going to go much further than that,
and it was going to be a Warriors Cavaliers final.
At least, this is somewhat up in the air. At
least this gives hope. At least this is fresh, and
I think that's what's drawn it in. Really, the success
of the Cavaliers and Warriors have allowed other fans of
teams to not really be able to cheer, And I
think this actually gives them some sort of hope as

(09:20):
they're watching. It's like a bronze medal game, Like like,
who really wants to brag about being in the bronze
medal game? But you know what, you ever seen a
bronze medal game. A lot of those guys they're gunning
for it because at the end, it's a competition, So
you may not be the biggest stage of all. What
about the n I T. You think those guys that
win the n I T aren't proud that they won
the n I T. I get it it. It's a

(09:42):
notch below where they should have been, but it gives
them something to play for. And to your point about
the summer league jerseys, and I I saw you say
that on Twitter and I mentioned I said he was
spot on because you'll get a lot of these baseball
fans these and I love baseball too, but a lot
of these just old time, old fashioned churn are in
the front yard, rigid baseball fans who want to go

(10:04):
You think preseason exhibition basketball is better than baseball in July. Yeah,
did did you see the All Star Game? You got
Nelson Cruz taken selfies with Joe West. First of all,
I don't even want to go there. But secondly, it's
it's okay to accept a new idea, something that was

(10:25):
something that walks across the TV screen and you go, hey,
look at that. I get it that. It doesn't matter.
I get it that it's an exhibition. But the point
is you're giving people hope. It's it's an extension of
the draft. They don't have seven rounds, they don't have
college football schedules and platforms like the NFL does, So
this is an extension of their draft. And if the

(10:46):
NBA needs to milk it for everything it's worth, then
do it. And like you said with the jersey, and
there will be a lot of people to say, why
would I ever wear a summer league jersey if they
sold it? Yeah, how many times have you walked around
in public with that big foam finger fanboy? Okay, you
think that's cool to buy? Are you kidding me? It's

(11:06):
just I don't I don't know why people are struggling
understanding that this is that this is a bigger deal.
Marketing wise than it is what you're seeing on the food.
We get it. It's an exhibition, but it's a big
deal marketing one Jerseys altered. It sold everywhere. John Ramos,
I just I'm not sure, but I just want to
say this. I'm not sure if you're the first person
I said this. I've heard this other places, so you

(11:29):
may make sure that this is you're the first person
that I have I may have heard of other places.
Mark my words. I haven't put that in my streets.
How about that? Mark my words. And if you don't
believe me, ask me Lanton and John Robs you can.
It's a It's a b KR edition of Fox Sports
Radio here on the Doug Gottlieb Show in for Doug today,
having some fun. And I am just I am just amazed.

(11:52):
I knew Summer League was big a few years ago.
And I know friends who are in the business. Our
own Mike Harmon is out, was out this week and
lost Vegas. I've got buddies who've lived in Vegas that
have worked it. But to go to the level of
the sellouts, of of the stats, Jonas, I mean, it's amazing.
Donovan Mitchell is at a great Summer League for the
Utah Jazz. If you're a Jazz fan, and I are like,

(12:15):
all right, see you letter, Gordon Hayward, We've got our
next year. It is a feel good thing and and
when you're trying to have some sort of hope where
maybe in another sport you wouldn't have it, at least
the Summer League is providing that for this month of July.
It's growing before our very eyes. This is true. And
I'm not I'm not taking shots in anybody, because I
get it. Okay, there are certain and you've covered sports

(12:38):
long enough to where you cover some sports and you
understand that nobody really gives a rip about the stats
of the game. You're okay, Like, I went to a
lot of South Carolina Stingray games, minor league hockey. I
can't tell you the final score of one single game
I went to. So I acknowledge, you know, back when
I was working in a smaller market, that this happens.
The first Summer League game of the NBA. Yes, p

(13:00):
N dot Com didn't even have a box score, they
didn't carry statistics. Find me one game they haven't done
that with some It's growing before your very eyes. The
proof is right in front of you. Stop being so
rigid and ignoring it just because you want to believe
the baseball is a bigger deal than it is. Hop
on that bandwig because if if you haven't already, it's

(13:21):
really going to take off, steal that take chumps. He
is Danny Seals there it is. He is Dan Buyer.
I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here Fox Sports Radio.
You can also listen to the show on the I
Heart Radio app and on Sirius XM channel eight three.
You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox.

(13:43):
Up next, though, we're going to ask a thirteen year
NBA veteran if he knows where Lebron James is headed
after Cleveland, and we'll do that next. He's Jonas Knox,
I'm Dan Buyer. Johnny Ramos right there, a b K
r udition of the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports. Right.
You love getting the response on Twitter? Is Jimmy Boom

(14:03):
tweets in So the NBA season is from mid June
to early August August nowadays, that's about right. Yeah. I
would say that's probably been the most interesting part, at
least of the NBA season of the last twelve months
has been what's been going on in the summertime as
opposed to what happens in the three other seasons. Another
guy tweets in it doesn't matter. It is being force
fed down our collective throats. You damn right, it is,

(14:24):
and you'll like every drop of it. It's it's called
summertime programming. That I mean, that's like what else think
on the show X games from you know, I just
there's not There's not a lot that's going on, and
if you put my programming out there, why not do it? Plus,
if you're doing the NBA is solid and it's part
of the deal, why not shill the games? Hit us

(14:45):
up on Twitter. I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox Jonas.
They can get you at a JA and John Ramos
for the first time in a while. Your Twitter handle
if people want to reach you on Twitter is they
can reach me at j S Ramos zero six. So
hit me up now? Can they can do that? Right there?
Act now? Now? Do you also share Twitter on Instagram

(15:08):
with Suzanne? It's uh Instagram? Yes, what's the other one?
You said? Twitter? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, Well you're still sharing Twitter. Yeah,
there's a s there. And if she answers his phone,
I know that you can call to check on John
in the hospital. She answers, and it's like, uh, she's
the gatekeeper. I can't get through to John. Yeah, well
he's can't. And so I called back with a fake voice,

(15:30):
I face time with a disguise on. I still can't
get through. A shout out to my lovely wife Suzanne,
who's a very positive energy. Yeah she is. She definitely is.
The energy in New York has been atrocious, okay, with
the New York Knicks. Everything that has brought up Jonas

(15:50):
with the New York Knicks has been negative, okay. Whether
it be Phil Jackson, whether it be Carmelo Anthony, whether
it be the him Hardaway signing, whether it be the
play on the court joke Kim Noah Derreck Rose. A
lot of the stuff that you've got with the New
York Knicks has been negative. Let's not forget. Every time

(16:13):
the Knicks came in and grabbed the headline, it was
of the negative variety. And now the New York Knicks
are actually being treated unfairly, okay, And the reason is this,
we found out yesterday that the Knicks proposed four team
deal that would have sent Carmelo Anthony from New York

(16:33):
to Houston was put to an end as an I'm
using air quotes as you can't see on radio, was
put a stop to at the two yard line. So
they were so close to a deal, but the New
York Knicks ended up getting cold feats and pulled out
of the deal. And there are reports at the three
other teams that were involved were not happy and that

(16:53):
Carmelo Anthony wasn't happy. That's all understandable, but you are
taking the easy way out if you are being critical
of the New York Knicks for not doing this deal.
The New York Knicks have been held hostage. Phil Jackson
would come out, no matter you like Phil or don't
like Phil, would say, we don't want Carmelo Anthony around here, okay,
that is, we want him to leave on Carmelo wouldn't

(17:16):
do it. Carmelo had the power because of the no
trade clause. So now the Knicks were allowed a little
bit of a crease where Melo would wave his no
trade clause to Houston or Cleveland. But you still need
a new GM because you blew out Phil Jackson, Scott
Perry comes in from the Sacramento Kings. I just don't
think it's a bad thing for the New York Knicks
and Scott Perry, who's gonna have to run this team
for the next who knows how many years to be

(17:37):
like you know what, on my first day on the job.
I don't want to trade the superstar that's been here
the last ten years for something that I'm not sure
that I want or I'm not sure if we can
get a better deal. I think that the the criticism
of the things so dealing with for not doing this
deal to sent Carmelo Anthony in Houston is really unwarranted
because I think anybody else in the same situation would
also at least want to get some bearing to know

(17:59):
what they're going into. There are certain franchises and sports,
certain teams organizations that just get labeled loser, regardless of
the decision, even though it could be a smart decision,
it could make a ton of sense, they just get
labeled that way. I know this when I would hear
Bear fans criticize the play of j Cutler quarterback, and
I would just quickly remind them excuse you. You've never

(18:23):
had a good quarterback in the history your franchise, and
don't feed me Jim McMahon because he stunk. Okay, look
at the numbers. The guy stunk. He was a dreadful
NFL quarterback. But because the reputation was, well, you know,
nobody good. No, he was the best you had. You're
just so used to bitching about it that you're not
familiar with how it feels to have something that might

(18:44):
be decent. No matter who the Cleveland Browns take in
a draft for the next foreseeable future, they're going to
get criticized for it. Uh, you're going to hear people.
You see Myles Garrett get injured, there there's gonna be
criticism of the Browns. The Philadelphia seventy Sixers, Marquelle Folks
gets injured in a summer league game and it's like, oh,
here we go again. Way to go Sixers. Like, no

(19:07):
matter what you just get, people are just so used
to bitching about something. With the Knicks. Listen, they've made
questionable decisions a lot lately. They're the worst run organization
in sports if you just base it off James Dolan.
But people see Nicks and immediately they fill in the gaps,
you know, like like they see Nicks and they go
Guaranteed it was a dumb decision. I don't know. Was

(19:29):
porzingis a bad draft pick? Yeah? I mean, I don't know.
I see it worked out pretty well. If if the
Cavaliers traded Lebron James to the Knicks, the the the
message would be just gonna say the model. The message
would be Nicks get a declining player who wants a
guy in their thirties. Okay, like that's that would be
the message. You put them on any of the other

(19:51):
teams in the NBA, It's like, oh my goodness, what
a coup for that team. So forgives Scott Perry for
moving into an organization where he at least wants to
have some footing to decide what could go in the future.
A report from the New York Daily News says that
Perry wants to find out if there are other teams
interested in Melo, but really if Mellow would be willing

(20:12):
to go anywhere else, because if there is another team,
guess what leverage comes into play? Again? That was the
Knicks couldn't trade Mellow to the Houston Rockets. Because Houston
had nothing to give them. Okay, if they wanted to
get rid of them, they could have just shipped something
along and tried and brought back some salary and Ryan Anderson,
which they didn't want him. If they just wanted to

(20:32):
rid him, they at least want to try to make
a move to build something. And it's just so easy
to be critical because they're the Knicks, or as you say,
they're the Bears. It's it's easy to put it into
into that frame. But I'm sorry that this blockbuster trade
didn't go through because the Knicks were looking out for themselves. Sorry,
that's such a crime. And here's the other one too.

(20:53):
A Lonzo Ball is going to be a swite. Talked
about a Lonzo Ball earlier in the Summer League and
all this. There's certain teams that have the opposite reputation.
All the Akers took a Lonzo Ball superstar. Here we go.
Hold on, hold on a minute. I heard this a
couple of years ago. That was D'Angelo Russell, and last
I checked, he was in Brooklyn trying to figure out
who his new teammates were, So don't feed me this.

(21:14):
All of a sudden, he was drafted by the Lakers.
He's going to be a star. I heard the same
thing about Julius Randall and about four minutes into his
NBA career he pulled a joe. Thisman by himself. Okay,
so I don't want to hear anything about, oh he's
a Laker. Just fill in the blanks from here. Stop. Okay,
take everything for what it is. Don't use reputations all

(21:35):
the time as to why you come to the conclusion
on how something's going to turn out. Maybe this is
the right move for the Knicks. Who knows, Maybe Carmelo
Anthony not having to play underneath Phil Jackson is a
better player. I mean, you never know what is amazing
to me, and you use those examples. I jumped to
the NFL when you talk about what team, no matter what,
the Patriots have never made a bad move in the

(21:57):
last never never never. Okay, when they trade for Brandon Cooks,
okay from the Saints, Brandy gets another weapon. You know, Patriots,
the rich get richer. Okay, Brandon Cooks doesn't get along
with his quarterback in a past happy offense. A quarterback,
by the way, that's going to the Hall of Fame
in New Orleans in one of Super Bowl himself and

(22:19):
is considered one of the greatest of all time. So
it's because Brandon Cooks couldn't acclimates or get along with
Drew Brees and Seomp Payton and the Saints or whatever.
They were the problem. Now the Patriots are going to
take advantage of it. You know, Drew Brees not targeting
because you know, Drew Brees doesn't look around the field
and find guys like that. That's the issue, That's what
That's what you get in the NFL. Patriots have never

(22:40):
made a bad movie make They make all mad move
Remember that sneaky move the Patriots pulled. Who boy, did
they pull a fast on on the Arizona Cardinals. They
traded Chandler Jones, a pass rusher in his prime, for
Jonathan Cooper, first round draft pick offensive lineman. Ah, the
Patriots must know something. Well maybe not, because Jonathan Cooper

(23:01):
got cut about three weeks later. So maybe that was
just a bad trade, you know, I mean, maybe that's
what it was. It's just ridiculous you're hanging with Mr
Cooper yea Arty's at an Army's instead of at the
Patriots facilities. What I'll let you know. Today's Doug Gottlieb

(23:24):
He is Dan Buyer. I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb.
Here Fox Sports Radio. You can always listen on the
I Heart Radio app, as well as on Sirius XM
channel eighty three, and you can get me on Twitter
at the Jonas Knox up. Next, though, we have got
terrible news for one of the biggest fan bases in
all of sports. Find out what it is in sixty
seconds from now. First, though, let's find out it's trending.

(23:44):
He's Jonas Knox. I'm Dan Buyer. That's Gan Ramos. A
b k R edition. Baseball's trade deadline comes up in
a little more than two weeks. Cubs were busy yesterday
and they may not be done. Of course, yesterday getting
Jose Can China had a deal with the Chicago White
Sox where they gave up um just to Jonas are
Do you know how many prospects the Chicago Cubs gave

(24:06):
up in that deal with the Chicago White Sox because
I'm not too sure I do, you know, I I
think I think that I'm trying to think. Is it? Um,
I don't. I don't think it was one? Four? Four, Okay,
that's what it was. It was four. It was four

(24:27):
prospects and all I could have a little bit of
help from one of the all time greats, Mike frances
So it wasn't. It wasn't. No, it was four. Okay,
but it wasn't. Okay, it wasn't. I just wanted to
make sure. But the Cubs are looking for pitching five
and a half games back of the Brewers in the
NL Central, that creep Cantana conroll Man big Lebowski. Um, yeah, no,

(24:52):
So they gave up four prospects for for Jose Quintana,
and um, I understand the move. I get why they
did it, but let's you know, sooner or later, Cub
fans gotta be honest about what this team is. Well,
that's that's my question, okay, because now they're in it's
about a year after a year ago we thought that
the Cubs were going to be on a roll like

(25:14):
the Golden State Warriors, that this is a Cubs team
that you're going to have to deal with, Jonas. We're
not even twelve months removed from them winning a World
Series and we're already seeing a revamping of the Chicago Cubs.
And it's it's more than just Schwarber. It's it's been
the pitching and the Cantana move was interesting in in
two fronts was number one ties they have control over

(25:37):
him for a couple of more years. But number two.
What was surprising to me was for as great as
the Brewers have been and as large as that five
and a half game lead has is for the Brewers
over the Cubs, it's still the Brewers and it's still
a young team that the Cubs feel that they needed
to keep Kintana away from Milwaukee because that would be

(25:57):
their chance to advance in the NL Central. It seems
somewhat like a panic move for a team that was
just winning the World Series in October. In the first
and over years, well, it just goes to show that
they were very fortunate winning the World Series last year.
Like it it's I mean, it's you can almost it's
a fact that while you watch the Yankees back in
the early you know, late nineties, early two thousands when

(26:18):
they won back to back to back World Series. It's
so difficult for teams to go back to back now.
Remember we talked with Kevin Millar before the season started,
and one of the things we asked him was you
were part of the Red Sox team that want to
know for what was the most difficult was that the
off field distractions. I mean, the Cubs were doing every
late night talk show, there was Dancing with the Stars,

(26:40):
there was all these other events that they were a
part of outside of baseball because it hadn't happened in
over a century. And he said, the one thing I
noticed is that our pictures were tired. So if you're
the Cubs, when majority of your pitching staff is already
in their thirties and they've had two deep postseason runs,
you can't expect them to just pick the ball up
and fresh as new come the next season. That it

(27:02):
doesn't work that way. The body isn't built that way.
So I wasn't surprised at all to see them take
a step back. But the fact of the matter is
the Cubs and the way they built this roster. They
didn't want to do what the Mets did. The Mets
drafted young arms. That was the Mets strategy. We're gonna bat,
draft young arms with high draft choices, and we're gonna
build the best pitching staff in the majors. And they've

(27:23):
had issues with injuries and all sorts other stuff. The
Cubs drafted bats. They wanted guys that could hit, guys
that could hit for average for power, and then they
were gonna worry about pitching at the next level. They
are exactly where I expected them to be. Everybody saying, oh,
this is gonna be a dynasty, and what what an
incredible run this is gonna be. Remember the Red Sox.

(27:44):
The Red Sox one in oh, four, oh seven, and
two thousand thirteen. So the Red Sox in a decade
won three World Series titles. Pretty damn good, right. That
means they also didn't win seven times. So you know,
I I hope that the Cubs don't look at this
and go we gotta panic and make a move and
all this stuff. Sooner or later, you just got acknowledge

(28:05):
maybe this isn't your year. Yeah, And I think there's
a lot to to what you're saying, because when you
look at a team that is is white hot right now,
they're not red hot, they're white hot. And that's the Dodgers.
I can remember Dodger fans for the for takeaway last year,
but even even parts of last year about the criticism

(28:25):
that Andrew Friedman and far Anxiety would get for not
putting a winner around Clayton Kershaw. Okay, and when you
talk about prospects and and that's the thing is, hey, hey,
if you've got Clayton Kershaw, don't you want to I mean,
why are we wasting him? We're gonna be wasting the well,
look at what's happened now. I mean you can argue

(28:46):
that Seeger and Bellinger are a better duo than maybe
anything that the Cubs have. Okay, when you look at
the rotation that they've got with now, Alex would coming on,
rich Hill is when he doesn't have a blister is
coming on. And you've still got Shaw Now you've got
to back into the bullpen and Kenley Jansen. So like
the pieces are there in the Dodgers. Now. As you're
sitting there, you're saying, oh wow, okay, we're set up

(29:08):
for a longer run. And it's it's the the knee
jerk moves, and that's the that's the the scary thing.
I remember two thousand and eight when the Brewers made
the deal for C. C. Sabathia, Okay, a great movie,
because they knew they weren't going to keep him after
that season. He wasn't gonna stick around, so they used
him as much as possible, and it ended up getting
them in the playoffs and got the the monkey off
their bag of twenty six years and not being in

(29:30):
the post. And they used him as much as humanly possibly.
They used him more than we use melantomate. Okay, that's
how much that they used to CC Sabathia. But the
fact is is when you look at them, what happened
to the Brewers? There was another appearance in twenty eleven,
and guess what, you're rebuilding again. And and that's that's
some of the risks that you take now when you're saying, well,

(29:51):
what about this move in that move and Zach Granky, Yeah,
well they also gave up L. C. D. Z Escobar,
Lorenzo Kane, Jake Gorderreesi in those deals to bring in
Zach Rinky. So when you're looking at making moves. The
one year to make that move to sell off your
your future is the Dodgers have kept. It's a big
risk and it's interesting when you look at the Cubs

(30:12):
and the moves that they made. In a way, Jonas,
it was built for last year because of the old
arms that you were talking about. And by the way,
the Brewers you see Ce Sabathia so much that season
that he went dressed as Jim Abbott for Halloween. No, No,
that yeah, what are you saying that? That's a fact?
That was I can't spit some facts on the radio, John,

(30:35):
What is your problem today? He is Dan Buyer. I
am a Jonas Knox in for Doug. Gotlieup here Fox
Sports Radio. You can listen to the show on the
I Heart Radio app as well as on Sirius XM
channel Lady three, and you can get Dan on Twitter
at Dan Buyer on Fox. You can get me at
the Jonas Knox. But up next though, an NFL team
expected to make a Super Bowl run just got some

(30:59):
terrible bull news. We'll have the very latest for you
coming up next year on FS are Right it is.
It's a b k R edition of the Dug Gottlieb
Show today. He's Jonas knock this God, that's John Ronald's
not singing. Those are me the tones of the lead
singer of Dishevel. Yeah, Jonas Knox and I'm Dan Buyer.

(31:21):
Glad to have you with us on this July big day, guys,
in two days, the all half birthday right here. Yeah,
it's half going up on Sunday. The the one wish
that I have, Okay, it's to dive into Jonas is
sac Let's reach into Jonas is Sack. And I found

(31:48):
David Gascon. Okay, what else is he there? David Away
to start a Friday off. Let me take a look psychic, gentlemen,
one more time, Johnny Psychic. According to Bleacher Reports, Jason
Cole to NFL general managers have the idea that a

(32:10):
team could place a monster roster bonus into an offer
sheet for Kirk Cousins if the Redskins do give him
the transition tag next year, and there's a sense Cousins
is not expected to sign a long term deal by
Monday's deadline for franchise players to do so. That being
said to the Redskins cave and give Cousins a monster

(32:31):
deal long term or do they roll the dice. I
see the Washington Redskins giving Kirk Cousins a deal after
this season. Okay, I think that is what you are
going to see. They don't want to risk losing their
their quarterback, but they just didn't want to commit to
all of the money. Um I said, so, I think

(32:52):
there's gonna be a long term deal. I don't think
that you're going to see an offer. I think he's
gonna stay with the Washington Redskins. I'll just put it
that way. I'm uncomfortable talking about out this because of
their team name, you know. I find it as so
the Washington football team. I don't think that the Washington
Football team is going to offer him extension after the season.
I think they're going to try and get it done

(33:14):
before the season. Dan that Washington Football team right, a
third consecutive franchise tag with result in him getting paid
thirty four and a half million dollars This year, He's
making closer to twenty four million dollars. Not bad for
Kirk Cousins, and I was moving forward to corner ESPNS
Adam Schefter. There's a growing sense that Ezekiel Elliott will
face a suspension for his involvement in two thousand sixteen

(33:36):
domestic violence incident. Now, the investigation is not over just yet,
but the NFL is waiting to hear from Zeke. Now
there are thoughts he could face the suspension anywhere from
one to two games. So fellas does Elliot get benched
by Goodell? And if so for how long? Okay? Well,
what's what? What do they have? I know that they're

(33:56):
doing this investigation, So what happened? Like, that's what I'm
a stand like, Well, like what proof did they have
that this that this took place? Well, there was the St.
Patty's Day. I shouldn't laugh about that, there was. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
there's Maybe it's like a history sort of thing. So
we just I mean, maybe it's the allegation from when
he was in you know, coming into the league. Um,

(34:19):
there's the recent one. Yeah, it seems that the NFL
wants to punish um just for an accumulation of things. Yeah.
If this is so, this is just them getting in
front of it before something more serious happened, so that
they don't look back and go, oh, you had all
these warning signs, why didn't you just make them do
something about it before. The problem is is if they

(34:40):
don't have enough of the information that when you just
panalize him the one or the two games, it makes
it look like you have the information. Okay, And wasn't
that really part of the deal with the Ray Rice situation? Okay,
because we had to say, how in the world did
you not see this video when you came down with
the penalty? Okay, because it turns out we believe that

(35:02):
the NFL, most of us believe they did see the
video and that it was it was provided to them.
But if you end up giving him a suspension for
one or two games from an accumulation of events, whether
they were there or there was nothing there or not,
you're you're almost you're putting yourself in a bad light
because you're saying, Okay, this is what this amounts to,
and then all of a sudden, you're making the public think, well,

(35:24):
maybe the maybe the NFL knew more than what we knew,
and now that came out. So this would be a
dangerous situation for the for the NFL to just hand
out a one or two games suspension for these incidents
unless there were more to it. Yeah, without giving out
details because then everyone I want to know, Okay, well,
you gave Ray Rice to games, so this must have
been just as bad as Ray. Right. That's why this
whole Ray Rice thing continues to come up, because the

(35:46):
NFL box that's so bad that now everybody's got something
to compare to. Everybody's got something they can compare punishments to.
So gentlemen, helln does he get suspended for I'm gonna
go sixteen games? I think I think sixteen is fair.
I don't think I don't think it will be um
two games, and I don't think that it will be Okay,

(36:11):
I know I already in Mike, Okay, I don't think
he's gonna get suspended. Sorry, Mike, Okay, I'm just gonna
move on. Yeah, I think that that he plays all
sixteen games with the Cowboys in the regular season. Bengals
head coach Marvin Lewis spoke glowly about second round draft
pick Joe Mixon, saying he's off the charts talent wise, big, fast, catch, run,
c smart, and he's just a twenty year old kid.

(36:33):
According to Marvin Lewis, he's as smart as a whip,
and I keep reminding everybody he's just a twenty year old. Kids, So, gentleman,
injuries aside, does mixing rack up at least fifteen hundred
all purpose yards this season? Hold on a second, can
you read the part of the what Marvin Lewis is
rundown is of Joe Mixon again, big fast catch, run,

(36:55):
see smart, and he's twenty years old. Ladies and gentlemen,
your new head coach at this Sinnati Bengals. Dr SEUs,
Doctor Seuz. Congratulations. We always wondered when Marv was gonna
get fired. Take care of Marv. I believe that Joe
Mixon will be over all purpose yards this season. Jeremy

(37:19):
Hill isn't providing them anything. Joe Bernard's coming off of
an a c L injury. So I believe that Joe
Mixon will surpass the number that Dave laid out there.
I actually think he's gonna be a big part of
the Cincinnati offense, and b because it's a new fan
base that may not be as familiar with him, I
actually think that he ends up. Um, you'll have a

(37:40):
different persona in Cincinnati. There's not a person listening right
now who plays fantasy football who hasn't had either Geo
Bernard or Jeremy Hill on the roster as like a
late week pick up because somebody was on a by
Somebody somewhere has had those guys, and you're always thinking
to yourself, hold on a sec, could you just give
him the ball at the goal line so Dalton doesn't

(38:01):
fumble it again. I'll give you some fantasy football advice.
I won't eat green green eggs and ham. I will
not draft in l a ram. Yeah, gentleman will close
with this, when does the ride end the ball field
going back to the wall? This one is gone five

(38:24):
five Baseball Tim Tebow will walk off run mettspin five
four Tim Tebow the magic at the Advanced A level.
In sixteen games, he's got three home runs, ten runs
driven in and batting three, slugging five and his ops
gentleman is at two. I gotta okay, I gotta trend

(38:49):
tread lightly here because like, I really want to say
that he's gonna be brought up to the majors, but
I just don't want to steal anybody's take. I think
I don't think you gonna see him at Cinnabank Field.
I don't think you're going to at City Field. I
don't think you're gonna see that. Um, I think he
stays in the minors. By the way, there's a better
shot of somebody finding Jimmy Hoffa at City Field than

(39:12):
Tim Tebow this season. Okay, that was Jonasis. What's the
what's the worst part of this sentence? UM? I need
six points from Jared Goff on Monday night football? Is
it that you need six points from Jared Goffer that
the Rams are actually on Monday night or having a
Monday night game around the Colosseum, I'd rather play mel

(39:32):
antonin Welcome Back Baseball. Second half of the season. The
second part of the season resumes tonight. Summer League rolls
on as we talked about earlier, and you know what
else wraps up jonas the main back Tour. Okay, stop
number four going on as we speak in London where

(39:52):
Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor are continuing their world tour.
We continue our world tour with Jenny Romos, who's here
with us as well on a b k R edition
here today on Fox Sports Radio. They could both have laryngitis,
there could be technical difficulties, and they could no show.
This London presser they're doing right now, and it would
be better than the one they put on in Brooklyn yesterday,

(40:14):
because that was a disaster. The fact of the attention
that these are drawing in in just a week though,
makes it when you when you talk about like a
road show from going town to town and performing from
the response that you got in l a and the
response that at least you got in Toronto with what
now we're seeing in hearing in London with Floyd Mayweather

(40:36):
and Connor McGregor, where it is a very McGregor role,
McGregor crowd, and Floyd Mayweather is trying to dodge, trying
to dodge the punches of the verbal chants of the
London fans. I think I've got no problem with it.
While yesterday may have been a mess, I have no
issue with this. I actually think it's interesting. I like
to see it go different places, just like the Big Three.

(40:57):
I like them going to different cities in all allowing
people to see the product. Sure people are gonna go
and buy this fight if this, if if this was
it was in our town here in Los Angeles, But
as if going on when I wasn't working this would
be something that I would want to see that I
would be interested. Yeah, it's fun, man, I just I
don't like there's a lot of people critical all. This
is so stage man. Whatever you do, don't buy the

(41:20):
pay per view. First of all, don't listen to those people. Okay,
there's a word for people that are telling you not
to buy the pay per view, and that world would
be nerds. Those are nerds who don't want you to
have any fun. They're the same people who show up
to a costume party and say, I'm not dressing up.
I'm too good for this. Get some friends together, save

(41:40):
a little cash if you have to, and watch the fight.
What else is going on? Why are these Do you
think it's just coincidence that these press conferences in this
tour was scheduled on this week? You don't think they're more.
They're smart enough to realize nothing is going on in sports,
by and large, so why don't we schedule it now?
They've been great yet Brooklyn was a disaster. We're hearing
bits and peace is in between the breaks. Because if

(42:01):
we aired any of this live, we would be fired
because they are dropping F bomb after f bomb. But
I mean it basically sounds like John Ramos during every
break anyways. Um, but I just I don't get the
whole you know, picking on it, and I'm not. This
is just a charade. This is all for show. Yes,

(42:21):
so what you guys will stand in line dressed up
as Star Wars characters. You won't pay a couple of
bucks to watch guys fight, You know what? I love
how press tours and promotional tours are not supposed to
promote or do press. No, like what the goal of
the reason we're going to all these thirty cities is
to not gain any attention whatsoever and expose people to

(42:44):
our product and try to bring a new people and
get the people who know what excited about. That is
not our goal at all. That that that that is
what people are saying because this has done that. And
if you were gonna buy the one hundred dollars, you
were gonna buy the one fight. Whatever the case may be,
at least this is interesting. At least this is bringing
you something that in advance, in a month advance of

(43:06):
of what's coming. And John Ramos, you've got an email.
We've got an email in from John Ramos inbox. I
just I it's it's like the Knicks. It's easy to
pile on. It's easy to say this is stupid, they're awful,
They're stupid, this is dumb, This is a joke. This
has been the same thing for four cities, you know what.

(43:29):
Each time it's been entertaining. And and if you're if
you're in on it, if you're looking at it, I mean, listen,
this is this is obviously something that both of guys
are in on. Okay, you wouldn't do this for a
real UFC bouts. I mean, you wouldn't take a heavyweight
championship about Jonas and go town to town and mouth

(43:49):
off when the guys seem to want to beat each
other up on stage. Anyway, Okay, Like for these two
guys to be able to verbally spar for four days
shows you what's there. But just sit back and enjoy it.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. We do have our
first homophobic slur of the tour. Connor McGregor or is
not Connor McGregor Floyd Mayweather, according to several people on Twitter. Again,

(44:11):
we have the volume turned down in the studio here,
but according to several people on Twitter, just drop the
f bomb, homophobic slur, the F bomb Dan so sure
that'll play well. That's a lot of stuff hasn't played well.
Some of the stuff hasn't played well in these tours,
whether it be Connor McGregor or Floyd Mayweather speaking Connor McGregor.

(44:31):
This was him earlier in London. A painted is my
hands and the color is unbelievable. Maybe you're forty, get
a phone like a d for year old man straight

(44:55):
Hello six weeks I'm when I see, I'm gonna put
his head on the campus as well. I mean he's
got a point, though, John, get the phone out of
your hand. What I what I want to know? Does
Floyd Mayweather? Does? He does? He turned forty and a

(45:19):
half on Sunday, That's what I want to know. I
want to know if if Floyd Mayweather turns forty and
a half like I do, if Connor McGregor would call
him out look at him a half? I don't know
if that would be Oh man, I just listen. They're
promoting a fight. Everybody knows that it's part of part

(45:41):
of the promotion. You're selling a fight, you're doing you're
doing promotions? Are you are? Do you are also the
same people who in the previews. Come on in the
movie theater, you guys, step outside because you just can't
see any of this. I gotta get some fresh air.
I cannot have any more of this. And then promoting
these upcoming movies. It's it's just ridiculous. And this is
what it is. I don't know if you can see it, Jonas,

(46:02):
but Floyd Mayweather Jr. Is actually wearing the Bengals Color
Rush jerseys for this season. Look at that. Yeah, it's
the new color Rush. It's it's the brown and sort
of Bengaled striped T shirt. I've loved every second of it.
I've loved hearing Connor McGregor go back and forth. I

(46:22):
love hearing Floyd Mayweather. This fight Jonas is a month away,
so why not just sit back and have fun with it.
It's summertime. I just I don't understand. This should have
changed the format? Okay, what what's what should it have been? Then?
What what do you wanted to do? Each each Canada's
five minutes and then one rebuttal Well, I think what
they wanted to do. So Dana White and the UFC

(46:44):
had to make a bunch of concessions. And Boxing Showtimes
are the one that set this up, this format where
each guy gets the mic and they they roast each
other and they go back and forth. Dana White wanted
to have it where they're at a table and the
media asked them questions to how the UFC runs it.
It's more organized, it's more efficient, but you know, Floyd
Mayweather and and Showtime preferred this way. Floyd Mayweather and

(47:08):
Showtime also had no idea why they were going to Toronto.
Why are we going to Toronto on our press stop?
And that's been the best one, so they've had to
neither one of the like the agreement was easy to
come to get done, and the deal was easier to
get done than Dana why and had you know anticipated,
But they've also had some frustrations with each other, which
I think is also being built up there trying to

(47:30):
create a boxing verse mm A type rivalry, a Showtime
versus UFC. And and that's just that's how this whole
thing has been done. I just the people complaining, it's
ridiculous looking at the two fighters as they end up
having words, and this is gonna be the final stop.
I'd actually love to see one more I just the
one liners, the the the quick bites, especially from Mayweather,

(47:55):
excuse me, from McGregor on Mayweather, has been entertaining. I
don't think there's any reason to be like this, I
won this press conference? Is guy won that press conference?
I just don't. It's taking it too seriously. It's okay,
just go back into jail. We're not doing that. I
thought we were gonna score each press conference. Nobody's nobody.
Nobody has done that yet. Hey, would you consider the

(48:16):
Toronto stop at ten eight or at ten seven? Really
like that we're doing now like a t k O
that we've got in London. I just like, like, that's
that's really what it's come down, dude. It's just so
funny to be the people out there that are like,
I'm not gonna get duped. I won't buy this charade.

(48:40):
The press conferences are going to be better than the
actual fight. I am superior with my purchasing abilities. I
won't buy this. Okay, let's go through your wardrobe and
see which dumb purchases you've made. All right, I'll take
my dumb purchases go. You don't want to lose couple
of ponds. I'll fit into this. That's that's where my
dumper just eight shirts that are way too small that

(49:04):
have never been worn. Yeah. Man, it's everybody trying to
trying to tell you, like what's worth buying and what's
not worth buying. And come on, man, you can't put
aside a couple of bucks. Go go watching a bar somewhere.
My brother's bar is gonna get it. Twenty dollar admission.
Get in there. There's there's something to look at when
the fight's not on, if you know what I mean,

(49:24):
and uh, you have a good time. John Ramos Jonah
said you gonna be there in Vegas? No, No, at
your brother's bar. I mean a second, I work. Okay.
It was a legit question to be like, hey, are
you going to the fight? Not what are your weekend plans?

(49:48):
Six weeks now at an establishment. Um. I actually am
hosting my highly rated weekend overnight show that night, John,
So I don't believe that I will be at the
bar watching it. Um. But you know, if you would
like to go, John, I'll I'll put you on the
list and instead of paying twenty bucks, it's only five.
Hey John, when the Rams open the season, are you going?

(50:10):
I'd like to go. I'm talking to your aunt Susan,
watch the game. That's what I was curious about. Do
we have more Conor McGregor from from today? Was there
no more? Okay, that's that's what we've got so far.
Nothing we can air yet. Heavy duty editing here. Just
take take one guess to the button has worked more
than this week. Just one wild guess. Tweet us and

(50:32):
I'll tell you what. You can win a prize. Yeah,
this is uh yeah, there's you know. I was when
the when the first press conferences went on, when the
first one went down Fox Sports Too. I first of
all didn't occur to me that Fox Sports Too that
I was actually watching Fox Sports two. I thought I
was watching like Showtime. And then afterwards I was saying

(50:54):
to myself, oh, this is f S two and they're
letting it all go. And they were thrown back back
at first. But I don't know to this day like that,
every single press conference f S two has aired has
been f bomb city. I don't know if they picked
up the homophobic slur from earlier, and I think now
they're taking questions from the audience finally, but but this
press conference seems a little bit more organized as they

(51:15):
wrapped this whole tour up and again the fights up
more than a month away. But speaking of more than
a month away, Dan John, what are you guy going on? Yus? Oh,
Ryan Music, our executive producer, Um was giving us the
heads up that you can also buy this uh year
that in standard definition this fight Yeah amazing, yeah h

(51:42):
d um. And I was thinking to myself, is when
you were talking about that standard f like nobody has
standard deaf anymore except for these Fox Sports Radio studios.

about the Summer League for a long time, but Kurt's
has it ever ever? Did you ever believe it would
reach the level that it has in now? It's kind
of stunning how popular it's become, Like it's selling I
mean long Zo ball and the Lakers always do better.
And I remember the crazy buzz when the Lakers drafted
Kobe they sold out the Pyramid where Long Beach State

(53:30):
plays five thousand, fifteen, there were seventeen thousand people zo
ball play. It's it's become such an event even when
they don't have them, like the Lakers don't have a
major star, which is always the biggest draw. It's still
now a massive summer event for a lot of hard
hardcore basketball people just come out and hang out for

(53:50):
a few days in Vegas and watchball. Kurt which lottery
pick has looked the worst? Oh? Um, we'll talk to tell.
I'm starting starting to run through my head, folks. Looks
pretty good until he got injured. He looked a little
better in in in Utah before he came to I'm
trying to now run through it looks great. Marketing did

(54:12):
marketing from three One was about to say, the guy
who comes to mind is marketing, Um is as the
guy who just there's pieces there. I mean you could look,
he did hit some threes. He's you can see moments
of it, but he's got a ways to go. Like
and the thing is like I felt the same way
about Jack Collins, but I could see more with Zack Collins.

(54:34):
I can see the path more than I could see
it with marketing. And basically they're just comp to be patient.
That's that's a it's a couple of years before you
really know what you got with marketing. He was way
off the market in that night. Thank you very much.
I'll be here all week after Summer League, Kurt Hell
and her Basketball Top Pro Basketball Talk joining us here
on Fox Sports Radio. We argued, Jonas and I were

(54:57):
talking about this early and it wasn't an argument. It
was a conversation on why this Summer League has grown.
And as you said, it was the Lakers and Lonzo Ball,
it's Kobe Bryant when he came on the scene with
the Lakers. Both maybe the Lakers trying to to form
a new identity. How much do you think, Kurt, does
it have to do with what we've had in the

(55:17):
NBA the last nine months of where we felt we
knew the outcome and of the other twenty eight teams
not having the halt that the Calves and Warriors had.
How much does that play do you think in the
interest of at least these fans just wanting something to
care about with their basketball team exactly. Look, most of
the teams in the NBA are selling hope right now.

(55:37):
You know, there's only a few teams who can begin
to sell title contention, and even they, you know, ultimately
realize if Golden State's helping, you know, it doesn't really
matter what Houston does. Um that said, I think for Philadelphia,
for Boston, who's there this year. I mean, not only
do Boston fans you know, get the Gordon Hayward thing,
but they're there to see Katum. There's a lot of

(55:57):
them there. So it's also just because it's in Vegas
in July when the rooms are cheap, because it's the
coolest day when I was there. I just got back.
The coolest day when I was there was a hundred
and seven degrees, So you can get in a room
at a relatively affordable rate. You know, it's not that
bad to fly out there and spend a couple of
days in Vegas and CEO team and have some fun
with some buddies. Is there a way that Adam Silver

(56:19):
can make the Summer League bigger? Like he's looking at
this going there's a lot of opportunity, you know, financially
to try and present these new players to to fan
bases around you know, these one and Dunn's foreign players
that they're not familiar with. Is there a way that
he can make this even bigger than it already is.
I mean, it continues to grow and I don't know

(56:39):
that you know there there is a building next to
the Thomas and mcintoc Center where they play these things,
which are connected by a lobby, which makes a lot
of fun. If you buy a ticket, you can just
kind of go back and forth across and see games
on either side if you can find a seat. Um,
there is another building there. There's you know, they could
move the championship game to that the new as a
team mobile center or whatever where the you know where
the eager fight and stuff is. UM. But I will

(57:04):
also tell you for the teams, the bigger it gets,
the more they're going to be attracted to spending some
time in Orlando or Utah where it's a little quieter
and they can get one on one time with these guys. Um,
there's real value in coming to Vegas, both in terms
of level of competition and all the teams are there,
and it's a convention now like you know, every GM,
every agent, you know, players drop it. It's a big

(57:25):
deal and everybody's got to go. But I think for
developmental purposes there's teams that would be happy to you know,
do the Utah and Orlando summer leagues and not necessarily
have to deal with Vegas. There are obviously perchas, meaning
in Vegas, with figuring some things out about guys. I
had a GM tell me a few years ago, like,
do you find out who's serious and who just wants
the party really quick? Um? But that and that doesn't

(57:47):
matter if you're talking about a guy who's going to
be at the end of the bench or a second
you know, a second round draft pick, or a guy
you're just checking out. But for the first round picks,
I'm look, honestly, I'm surprised the Lakers are still playing
loss of all. I'm as right as I didn't just
shut him down because you try to win some really
yeah court, he'll joining us here a pro basketball talk, um,
you talk about guys who are just there to have
a good time. You tweeted something a little bit earlier

(58:09):
about rumors coming out from various sources and various outlets
is saying that maybe Doc Rivers doesn't put in the
time that some people think he should. How much is
there to this that maybe Doc Rivers isn't putting the
commitment to the Clippers is something he should be. I
think that this is a case of some spin coming

(58:29):
out doc doc lobs his golf doc isn't. But he's
also had a look. I think there's some truth to it,
but he's also had a really veteran team, Chris Paul,
you know, Blake Griffin's not you know, he's a veteran,
but he's also a guy who's battled injuries. He did
this in Boston. He didn't work them that hard. You know,
they practiced less than any team than they that that

(58:51):
is out there. It's a much more okay, we're gonna
do this at our pace, but when when you hear
you've got to be professional type of atmosphere that works
with a veteran team. Um, I don't know if i'd
hire him to be a developmental coach, but it works
kind of for his team, So I don't there's a
I mean, I get what they're saying. I'm just not
and I don't think that that's not true. I think
there is some truth to that, but I'm not sure

(59:13):
that it matters as much with the teams he's coach
either in Boston Railway as it would if you were
in a different organization. In a different place. Kurt, There's
been a lot of rumors out there whether or not
Lebron James is going to leave Cleveland after next season
and where he ends up. We're gonna give you the
opportunity to go ahead and confirm the rumor that Lebron

(59:33):
James is headed to the l A Lakers. Is that true,
Kurt Healen, I'm going to free I'm going to I'm
not going to answer your question the way you want to.
I'll tell you what the people, second, people closest I know,
closest to Lebron have said, which is he is keeping
every option open, and that's one he likes. But I mean,
how would you have the right to keep every option

(59:55):
at this point open if the Cavaliers, let's say, let's
say Golden States stumbles or there's any areas or something,
and the Cavaliers make the Finals and witnessing he's not leaving,
so I think it. I think he's just trying to
keep every door open because a year in the NBA
is like a lifetime. So you know, maybe the way,
maybe the Lakers don't look that good after the next
year's regular season, but maybe they do. So it's It

(01:00:16):
is certainly a possibility. And I say that, you know,
with obviously being sarcastic, because everybody's trying to fill in
the blanks that Lebron's gonna end up in l A.
And I've been hearing this about l A landing these
big time free agents. If I'm a Lakers fan, what
other teams besides Cleveland should I worry about that you
could see Lebron James considering, well, here's the thing. Lebron

(01:00:37):
is like the Rams like movie. Maybe there's five players
in the league like this westbook. A couple of hardened
teams will find a way to clear the cap space
to get Lebron James. He is, He's a different animal
than everybody else. So if if Lebron decided he wanted
to go somewhere that was capped out, they'd find a
way to make it happen. The Clippers are up. If

(01:00:58):
you want to come to l A. The Clippers with
like Griffin, Danilo Gallinari, some nice young players like that's
not a horrible roster. It just lacks a true alpha.
That's not out of the question. Now, um, there's other
teams that are out there, but it's going to be
interesting next year. Next year, it's really the top guys
are gonna get paid Lawn Westbrook, Paul George. Even the

(01:01:19):
second tier guys that are gonna come up, like um
Um Wiggins is up for for an extension, he'll get
one that's really big. But I will tell you the
third tier guys, it is a type market. Guys. A
lot of teams are already capped out, are really close
to it. And those the guys down a step who
were getting paid a couple of years ago, and even
some of them this year. Look at Tim Hardaway Jr.

(01:01:39):
Those guys are going to find the market really rough
next year. Final one for Kurt Hell in a pro
basketball talk here on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonah Stocks.
I'm Dan Buyer here on the Doug gott Leap Show.
The Knicks um backing out of this proposed four teen
trade that would would have sent Carmelo Anthony to the
Houston Rockets. I side with the Knicks of if you're
bringing in Scott Perry, at least give the guy more

(01:02:00):
than a day to figure out maybe what the future
will hold. What were the reasons why the Knicks Withdrew
and what are the reasons that the other teams are
so mad about this trade not going through and maybe
why Carmelo is mad. Well, part of a Scott Perry
is a really good higher for them, like that this
is a if they give him power. I mean like
you've got a caveat these things with the Knicks, Like

(01:02:21):
he's a really smart die if they bother and listen
to him. So he did really wondering wonders in Sacramento
where they did listen to him in the summer. Um,
it wasn't just the Knicks backing out, although they didn't
like the offers. There's a lot of problems there because
Houston has to move basically Ryan Anderson's make this work,
and nobody wants Ryan Anderson's contract, and now you've got
to you're gonna move Ryan Anderson somewhere. People are gonna

(01:02:44):
want sweeteners or to dump bad contracts back on you.
And it just once you get to four teams, you
can't make four teams happy that somebody's just not gonna
like what they have to give up. The Nicks what
part of that, Um, I think you back off and
you talk to him, and I don't think he starts
the season there and then somebody comes around and they
find it better deal um wants the season gets moving.
It's just that Knicks don't have pieces that Cavaliers don't

(01:03:05):
have pieces. If nobody wants Kevin Love. I mean Denver
wouldn't even give up Jamal Murray for Kevin Love, Like wow,
it's going to be hard to move those kind of
contracts and this kind of guy in this deal, and
that just makes it. Scott Perry's brilliant, but you know, yeah,
he's David. As you said, it's it's so easy to
pile on the Knicks, But I don't know how anybody

(01:03:26):
could blame them, especially if you're bringing in a new
guy who's just going to be fresh on the job.

it mel antonin Summer League or some other guy you know.
I know he sounds like he's got a great jumper.
I know that name, sounds like he may be able
to just be the next Lebron James. I'm gonna go
with some other guy's a Major league baseball insider, David

(01:07:14):
David Gascon. That's kind of David Gascon, Los Angeles, really
killing it. But David Summer League or some other guy. Okay,
Troy Williams. I'm gonna go with the summer league guy
a summer before clearing the board. You guys are good

(01:07:35):
at this game. You guys know your Summer League. You
also know your guys. Yeah, are you talking to me now?
I am Jonas Okay, Seal Henry Samuel Summer League or
some other guy, Seal Henry Samuel. God, that's a mouthful. Dan,
who the name too? I gonna go Summer League. It's

(01:08:04):

(01:08:26):
Bones McKay, Oh, I love that name. That's some of
the guy that is Yeah, yeah, Bhil Nicholson's former cadet
now now turned broadcaster for a golf channel and NBC Sports.
Good job. Okay, spread If you didn't include Phil Milkinson's
former bookie, let's go to David Gasco or updated. Let

(01:08:48):
David all that's comin David Gascon from the Los Angeles
Voice Department. It's an American guy, Kay Felder, Summer League
player or some other guy. Kay Felder. I'm gonna go
with some other guy fell their place of the Cleveland

(01:09:09):
Cavaliers in the Summer League. Ryot of Music, our executive producer. Okay,
we gotta get back on track here. Matt Costello Nott Costello.
That's Summer League. Yes it is. You're listening to nonst music.

(01:09:34):
He actually was performed with Elvis back in the day.
They called the group Elvis Costello. You do that one, okay,
Jonas are you ready? Brandon Paul? Two first names? He's
in radio. Who Brandon Paul? Mm hmmm, some other guy Dan.

(01:10:00):
That would be I know another Cleveland Cavalier. Okay, the
final one, Johnny Ramos as we get close to the
break here, get close, Yes, Reginald Dwight. I'm gonna say
that's some other guy. Do you know who that guy is?

(01:10:23):
Elton John, Yes, it is Elton John drel name, that's
Alton John d real name. Yes, Reginald Dwight, Yes, better
than Melton John. Why have you changed his name? Hell's
wrong with Ane Buyer. I'm not sure he's still standing though.
Um okay, I actually have two more names, too bad,

(01:10:44):
I can't anymore. Dennis Smith Jr. Ryan Music. Some league
is of course, heck. Steve Gorman says he's gonna be
the NBA Rookie of the Year. David Gascon you can
end it? Are you ready? So's an American Guss? Aubrey Graham.

(01:11:04):
Aubrey Graham? All right now my microphones on Summer League? Guy. Okay,
it's actually Drake's real name. Drake's real name. Get Aubrey
Drake Graham. Good job, guys on Summer League or some

(01:11:25):
other guys can speak for yourself. I think I missed
every single one. Oh you got Donovan Mitchell, you nailed
and now there is an asterisk next to the ones
that I missed, because if they are in the Summer League,
they won't be in about a week, so they will
be some other guy in a week. So I was
just ahead of it, ahead of my time. Very very
good points. He is Dan Buyer. I am Jonas Knox

(01:11:46):
in for Doug gli via Fox Sports Radio. Do you
want to let you know that with True Car you

know where Lebron James is headed after Cleveland. Find out
who that is. Coming up next. This is the Doug
Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. No Doug today, I'm
Dan Buyer. That's shown us naxies. Johnny Ramo is hanging out.
It's a b k R edition. We've already got a
hashtag out there, Roy Combs hashtagging hashtag Summer League or

(01:12:32):
some other guys. So it's already out there taking a
picture of the stats that maybe some NBA stats people
would have some troubles with. I got a tweet, but
I like when people trying to code my world famous teases.
Al Right, wrong again, but I will read the tweet. Dan,
I'm going to take a wild guest and assume the
person with the Lebron James news will be on around
the same time as mel Antony listen. Very good guests.

(01:12:57):
That is a very good guest, but in correct, Johnny
robot robo Dan, the hashtag is going around. You know
it's hot right now. But we have some inside sound
of the actual recording session that was went on between
the two guys. League song. This is hot off the press,
no music. This is just the voice some the league,

(01:13:21):
some of the guy rolling through the choices. They're crazy.
Well they're a duo. Yeah, they're the board Operators. That's there.
That's their group name. That's the spelling is b O
R etna. What are you got to call yourself? The

(01:13:47):
next and dishevel. You're gonna get a dumb You're gonna
get a dumb tattoo on your arm too. You know
what I want to know what does the Fox say? Now,
what does the Fox say? This is where we dive
into something that was said on Fox, not on Fox
FS two because we can't bleep those words out. Okay,
but Fox Sports Radio FS one, even Big Fox when

(01:14:09):
something big is going down and jonas in the in
the world of sports, um, nothing grabs the headlines like
Lebron James. Okay, Chris brus sorry who hosts here on
weekends here with Us on Fox Sports Radio, can also
see him on Fox Sports one lending some insight on
where Lebron James could land next if he leaves Cleveland.

(01:14:31):
And your desire is to win, to beat Golden State,
I think there's one place that's ahead of everywhere else.
And it's not the Lakers. It's San Antonio. Don't say
that it's San Into he's calling He's up. But that's
Christian said that for about a week as he was
on the Herd earlier today on Fox Sports Radio. It's

(01:14:52):
because here's why, alright, Colin Coward has been doing this
long enough to know, and you and I haven't been
doing it as long as him, but we have picked
this up pretty quick. There are certain markets that move
the needle and certain places where when they land a star,
it's a bigger deal. You know, Alonzo Ball being a
Laker is a big deal. Tom Brady playing in Boston's

(01:15:12):
a big deal. Lebron James playing in San Antonio, I mean,
it's it's it's not it's not that sexy market like
some of these other places are so selfishly it would
move the needle more if Lebron went to another to
the Lakers, San Antonio is a better organization period I'm
not I'm not discrediting that, but it's it's part of

(01:15:34):
the reason why if Kevin Durant, he would Kevin Durant
would never leave Golden State to go to Oklahoma City,
but he leave Oklahoma City to go to Golden State.
You know, you would just never see that in reverse,
So I understand it. I don't know. I don't think.
I'm not sure Lebron would make that move to San Antonio,
but who knows. I don't think he would make the

(01:15:55):
move for this reason. Is Lebron to be in charge, Okay,
and history proves that, and in San Antonio he wouldn't
be in charge. He wouldn't be in charge of what
the team does. On the court, he wouldn't be in
charge of what the team does personnel wise, and that
just doesn't fit. Plus, I think it would take some

(01:16:17):
of the luster, some of the star power off of
Lebron if he went to a place where it looks
like he is admitting that he needs help. Okay, because
if you're in Cleveland and you're putting together your big three,
he's the one who hand picks Kevin Love. Sure, Kyrie
Irving was was already there, but Lebron James is the
center of attention, just like you was in in Miami.

(01:16:39):
He could do that in a lot of places. Sure,
he's gonna be the best player on San Antonio, but
it's a way an admission that hey, I'm not good
enough to do this by myself, that I'm gonna need
help from other people. And I don't think that that
also drives with what Lebron has done in the past.
And there's a real likelihood that Lebron James has already
conceded He's never gonna win as many titles as Michael Jordan's.
That's never to happen. But what can he do that

(01:17:02):
Jordan hasn't done. He brought championships to Miami. They had
already won one, but they weren't exactly a team known
to win a ton of championships. He brought multiple championships
to Miami. He brought a championships to Cleveland for the
first time. So maybe he looks around and goes, where's
another place I can go and I can be the
guy that can be the missing piece to a championship.

(01:17:24):
And that's why when people try and discredit him going
to the Clippers, I don't know. Man, If I'm Lebron,
I look at that and go So you're telling me
I could bring a championship to the Clippers, one of
the laughing stock of the league. Try and beat that.
Mj Somebody go tell me where Michael Jordan delivered championships
outside of Chicago to two to two places that are
never known to be winning organizations. And if I'm Lebron,

(01:17:46):
that's why I think the Clippers are still in play. Yeah,
the luster of winning a title with the Spurs wouldn't
be as great. He would just sit in. It would
even be different with the Lakers. It would be better
than it would be in San Antonio. Because of what
now we see of this Lakers team, and Lebron would
get a lot full credit. And that's now now you're
putting them up there. Now you would put that championship
team if they would win with a Magic led team,

(01:18:07):
you know, a Kareem led team, a Kobe led team,
a shack led team, and now you've got a Lebron
led team. He would like to be in that conversation
if he did it in San Antonio, it wouldn't work
out that way. Yeah, you're right, of of the circumstances
of finding the right place. What do I want? What
my legacy? That's that's what is a majority of it
is going to be. And and nothing, to be honest,

(01:18:28):
nothing changes in Cleveland if he wins another one. There
you're getting more of an impact, whether it be with
the Clippers, whether it be with the Lakers, whether it
be with the Knicks or or someone else. You're getting
more of an impact for Lebron winning a title. And
and let's just be on and you know, you can
also go and say, well, why would you know, why
then why would he go to l A You know,
it's a big market and all this stuff. But let's
also point this out because and only in fairness to

(01:18:49):
give the other side of the argument. Lebron James has
always been a front runner. Who's who's favorite teams growing up?
The Yankees and the Cowboys. Guy grew up in Akron, Right,
what the hell are you doing being a Yankees and
a Cowboys fan? But we've seen it before. His favorite
player growing up was Melante. Oh my god, Johnny Ramos,

(01:19:11):
is you're as well? On this Friday b k are
addition or as Jonas just put in a b k
F origin of the Doug Gottlieb Show and Summer League
is everywhere you turn on TV, you are talking hoops,
and that's kind of been the the theme today. We

(01:19:32):
played Summer League or some other guy, which is a
game that's gonna be sweeping the country. We've talked a
Lonzo ball. There is so much happening with the NBA
Summer League, keeping the NBA in the conversation for another
week longer. It really goes in stages, Jonas. You know
I mentioned earlier in the show that my sporting calendar
would go football to golf. That was the big part

(01:19:54):
with you know, a nice seasoning of the NBA in
college basketball. But when I'm really looking forward to things.
I was looking forward to the NFL season, and I
was looking forward to the PGA Tour season really getting
into full swing and heading into the majors. That was
my calendar. Now with the NBA's emergence, is it's extended,
but it always ended around the NBA Draft. Then when

(01:20:17):
free agency really became a headline over the last five
in the last couple of years and dating back to
Lebron's decision, it was more into July. But now we're
in the middle of July and we're still talking about
the NBA with training camps, by the way, only three
months away. Okay, so you're gonna get about a two
or three month break of no NBA after the Summer
League wraps up on Monday, and then you're gonna have

(01:20:38):
the NBA quickly on the other side of it. So
it's just been amazing on how the legs and how
much it keeps running off and growing from what used
to be a dead time in the National Basketball Association.
Is that right, Dan? Yes? I think I think so.
I think so because I don't think that you're being
quite honest here. I don't think that you're telling the

(01:20:59):
truth because I know, we've we've talked about the popularity
of Summer League, and we've talked about how the Summer
League is bigger now than it ever has been before.
And you've talked about how the Summer League has kept
your interests longer than you ever thought it would. So
let's put Dan on the hot seats. All right, Dan,
let's see how popular the Summer League is. All right,

(01:21:21):
with one simple question, is this going to delay the
purchase of your football season preview Magazine's Dan? Buyer deal
or no deal? Well, if I take the deal, it
would mean that there would be a delay in football

(01:21:45):
season is just around the corner. If I don't take
the deal, it means that I would have to purchase
the football magazine is to get ready for the upcoming season.
My family is here cheering me on. Um, I think Jonas,

(01:22:09):
I think they want me to They want me to
press out no deal, Damn, look at this. We've got props.
Yeah magazine? Yeah, yes, he is locked it. You got
a street in Smith's in there, dad though, you got
a little street and scare on the street. Yeah, that's

(01:22:34):
what I'm talking about. What else we got in that bag?
Then you have to put in my office after all week.
Hold on, let me let me reach into that bag.
There's only five grand in here. Yes, the football magazines
have been purchased. In fact, if you look at the
Fantasy football magazine Jonas, you're gonna notice um some highlighting

(01:22:57):
already done. Yeah, that guys that may want to targets.
Green means go for those guys. Pink means they're already
in my fold. Okay, like that, I've got those guys
as a hold over. Gray means ineligible, they've been held
over by other man. That's good. I actually bought a
sports magazine recently, Dan, Yeah, the body issue meant only

(01:23:19):
John Body Racing. Yeah, hot babes on hot rods. There
it is. Look at that chevy right, Okay, Because and
I asked this because we both acknowledge Summer League is
a bigger deal now than it ever has been before.
And we've had experts on and insiders who have talked

(01:23:39):
about it as well too. But so if that's the case,
when do you really start to ramp up for the
NFL season, Like when, Because it's gonna happen soon, if
it hasn't happened already, it's going to happen soon. So
so when for Dan Buyer does he turn off the
NBA completely and switch over to full throttle. Got the
hitch already? I really do have the hitch. And that's

(01:24:00):
what That's actually why when we did our list of
lists things last week, when we were making fun of
the the top ten lists of lists, that's the part
that bothers me is because I'm ready for it. I
don't need filler. I don't need to know who the
greatest safeties are, who's the best punters of all time?
I don't need to know that stuff. I don't care
who's got the best chance of going worst to first? Okay,

(01:24:23):
that argument, by the way, has been done everywhere since May.
Who's got the best chance of going worst to first?
In the National Football I guess what everybody. Everybody thinks
the Eagles, that's what we think. Like that stuff annoys
me because I'm just I'm ready to see pads. I'm

(01:24:44):
ready to see helmets, I'm ready to see the action.
I'm ready for the Hall of Fame game, to see
the graphics on the screen. We've talked about this and
we've actually done some shows with the preseason schedule starts
I love that part of the NFL because then you
know it's going to be a part of your life
for the next five months, and it's finally here. So
I am, I am really really ready for the NFL
season to start, and I can't wait till we can

(01:25:05):
move on and and really focus on on the gridiron.
Ask me when I'm ready to just ask me, because
we're not in the air and now so nobody can
hear this. Ask me when I'm ready to start talking
NFL and skip the NBA. When Jonas, are you ready
to start talking NFL and skip the NBA. That would
be tonight, But as a weekend, all the nights go,

(01:25:27):
we're gonna We're gonna wave bye by the mini sports.
We're getting right into the NFL. All make up stuff.
I will make up topics and thin air just just
to talk NFL. I'm sick of not talking NFL. Well,
the summer league is grabbing our attention. But tonight on
Jonas Knox Show, it's Football fever um has been popular.

(01:25:50):
Kurt Healing actually joined us earlier. By the way, do
you know, John, do you know what Kurt's Twitter handle is?
It's I'm Phil and Hilling phil it Hillan too. It's
at Sexual Healing. No, no, no, it's it's it's at
Basketball Talk. By the way, the next time, Kurt Healand

(01:26:14):
joined us to talk about the popularity and maybe why
the Summer League has struck a chord in a good
way with so many teams around the league, most of
the teams in the Wait a second, why was he
silent for like three seconds? There was he doing? Was
he doing this in London as well with the Mayweather

(01:26:35):
McGregor and it just took a while for the sound.
Let's hear how long it takes Kurt healan to finally
answer my question? Spen it out. Most of the teams
in the NBA are selling hope right now. You know,
there's only a few teams who can begin to sell
title contention, and even they ultimately realize that Golden State's healthy.
You know, it doesn't really matter what Houston does, I
think for Philadelphia, for Boston, who's there this year? I mean,

(01:26:58):
not only do Boston fans, you know, get the word Heyward,
but there That's what's amazing too, is the Celtics. The
Celtics are in the thick of it now. They just
want to be a keys and entertained by Jayson Tatum.
When do you just start like sitting guys. I mean,
this is enough. We've seen what each guy is. We
don't need to push the envelope here. We don't need

(01:27:19):
to do you think. Here's the other one thing I
want to ask you. A Lonzo Ball got a lot
of heat for sitting out the game against Sacramento. All right,
A lot of people just took it as oh, he's scared.
He's totally. He's scared of, you know, of of dealing
with with Sacramento. He's scared of that matchup again. Okay,
so do you think the Lakers here that do you
think a Lonzo Ball heard that and said, well, I've

(01:27:40):
got to play like like I've got I don't want
people to think that I'm intimidated by anybody. I don't
want people to to think that I'm walking into this
NBA season and I'm not ready to play. So I've
got to put up numbers. I've got a pad stats,
and I've got to look good now. I don't think
they care enough. I don't think that they I mean
to have him sit out that game. You could argue

(01:28:01):
that it would do more damage than good, than than
what he would do there. But I also think that
when you're looking at the summer league, I think that
it does I think it does very little good. Okay,
I don't think guys make great strides over these five
to two seven days of summer League. Maybe they get
to know the system a little bit better. But again,

(01:28:23):
if you're a Lonzo Ball and you're on the court
and Brandon Ingram isn't there, how many guys on that
quarter are you gonna be playing with? And maybe a
little bit more for the Lakers, but we're for some
of these other teams from like the Minnesota team or
a Wizards team is playing right now. When you don't
have when you don't have John Wall, Bradley Beale, Otto,
Porter Jr. And those guys on the floor, how how
much can you really gain from all of this? So

(01:28:46):
that's that's where I just don't think. I I know,
like it, it looks like he's shying away, but I
just I don't think that that is there. I don't
think that these teams value it enough to want to
risk anything. Dan does. The NBA make more money on
regular season games, and two NBA owners make more money
on regular season games or do they make more money

(01:29:07):
on summer league games regular season games? So, for all
the people out there saying he's intimidated of Deer and Fox,
if you're the NBA, wouldn't you rather those two guys
meet for the first time since the n c A
tournament during a game that actually matters, when they can
make money as opposed in the summer League? Like why
why would you? It's like a super Bowl matchup that

(01:29:29):
takes place in the preseason. No, why wouldn't you do
it in the regular season as opposed to the preseason? Why? Why?
Let that be what people look forward to, not a
meaningless game that doesn't count. So everyone out there trying
to take Shaw he's scared. We knew it. He's scared.
He's not really hurt. Come on, let's let's all we
we acknowledge it's a bigger deal. We acknowledge there's more

(01:29:52):
eyeballs on the tournament, on the Summer League than ever behore.
But let's not lose sight of the fact that it
still is just the summer league. A Lonzo ball at
sixteen points last as part of his triple double. He
was six of twenty from the floor. How many times
do you think that the Lakers are gonna want Alonzo
Ball taking twenty shots during the regular season. I don't think, Benny.
I mean, if Lonzo Ball is taking twenty shots, the

(01:30:13):
Lakers are losing. Okay. You want Brandon Ingram to get
those shots. You want Jordan Clarkson to get those shots.
You want Julius Randall to get those shots. Those are
the guys that you want to shoot the ball. If
Alonzo shooting twenty times a game, it means the Lakers
are probably losing. He's not gonna get those sort of
opportunities in an NBA regular season game either. He is

(01:30:34):

(01:31:20):

that's John Ramos. It is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Love
your feedback. On Twitter, I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox.
He could get Jonas at d Jonas Knocks and John
Ramo said j S. Ramos zero six Eric tweets in
what a great way to start the weekend. B k
R you know hashtag b K alright, we appreciate that.

(01:31:42):
Thank you very much, thank you, Burger King rules right,
Burger British Nights rules. Remember the shoe wouldn't be nothing
without the BK button, wasn't that? The shoe wouldn't be
not with lout the b K button. British Knights were
you do you ever have l A gears? No l
A gears double aces you know cool? I got double

(01:32:05):
aces too, bad, the bottoms falling off. How about you
put double stitches in. Put double stitches in so I
don't have a flint stone car for a shoe where
my feet are touching the ground. Before we get into
the quick news of a big suspension in the NFL today,
um we're we're l A gears big in l A.
Because Jonas and I have had the conversation when we

(01:32:26):
were in Pittsburgh for the U S Open last year,
there is a place called l A Tanable. Yeah, Oakmont,
across from the course. Randomly in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, there's a
tanning salon. Yeah. It's like I'm wondering because in l
A there's no place called l A tan Unless it
was the first. I would think it would have to

(01:32:47):
be the first one. But like in New York, they're
not like hey, New York style pizza. It's just pizza.
But I all I'm saying is is that the city
where it originates from wouldn't have it. Where maybe the
other states would, you know, Oklahoma would have an l
A t I think my hometown is like an l
A hair salon, okay, where they only do hairstyles of

(01:33:08):
people in l A. Well, that's I used to watch
Friday Night Fights. Friday Night Fights was a boxing show
that was on ESPN two for a year. It was
one of my favorite shows. And so every Friday night
at nine Eastern time, they would have Friday Night Fights.
And I remember one time they were promoting We're gonna
be in Miami for next Friday Night Fight, and I'm
thinking myself, like, wow, this is pretty cool. Where are
they gonna be. It's gonna be at Joe Robbie Stadium.

(01:33:30):
Are they gonna be outside the Clevelander No, that was Miami,
Oklahoma on an Indian reservation as her fact. Yeah, that
was That was Friday Night Fights for you. Uh. It's
like Big Ops Brooklyn, Brooklyn, Wisconsin, just a few miles
south of Madison. UM. Moving up from Madison to the
Twin Cities. News from the NFL today that Michael Floyd

(01:33:53):
received a four games suspension by the National Football League
as the wide receiver is gonna miss the first four
games of the upcoming season. Um, here's here's the one
question I have. If he's not going to be playing
those four games, how the hell is he supposed to
have a postgame drink? Okay, Jonas. Okay, all right, let's

(01:34:15):
let's I can't take ahead. I'm looking out for the
guys social, social life, and I can't take ahead this
This dates best to last year with his d U
I R s. All right, let's hope that he, you know,
cleans things up. But he'll miss the first four games
against the Saints, Steelers, Buccaneers, and Lions. Okay, for the
Minnesota Vikings who are trying. That's why he wanted to

(01:34:39):
talk about this, just for the joke. Just I swear
to god, I thought of it when you when you
started talking about this thing. But you're awful. You're awful.
The first four games. Floud's gonna miss Saints at the Steelers,
home against the Buccaneers, and home against the Detroit Lions.
But here's a Vikings team that start it off five

(01:35:01):
and oh last year ended up not making the playoffs.
Have a bunch of changes, including Adrian Peterson out with
Dalvin Cook and Latavious Murray in in that backfield. Offensive line,
they need to stay healthy. It's a four game suspension,
but Michael Floyd's roll with the Minnesota Vikings, UM, this
isn't going to be a thing where you're like, hey,

(01:35:22):
there were two and two. I mean Stefan Diggs is
still the main target there, right, You know, we just
hope we're two and two when Tom comes. If we
can navigate when Michael Floyd can come back to us
in week five, will be all right. But this is
it's from last year. But also the Minnesota Vikings had
to know that this was going to be part of
the deal when Michael Floyd ends up coming on board.

(01:35:42):
This probably isn't fair to do, but screw it. Why not?
Um So, let me get this straight. If you fall
asleep at the wheel, bombed out of your mind to
where the cops finally get your attention and you pretend
like you're being abducted by aliens because you're so hammered,

(01:36:03):
that's the same number of games you're suspended, as opposed
to if you may may or may not have taken
air out of football's I just want, I want to
get this straight. That is correct. So you team managers
out there that are in charge of letting the air
out of balls at whatever sporting event you perform or
play in, just understand that that is the equivalent to

(01:36:24):
falling asleep at the wheel. Hammered out of your mind.
There's there is more to what you are saying when
you're talking about d U I s and getting there
there for marijuana, okay, for the use of marijuana, which
a lot of people say helps their aches and pains.
Players former players that have used it say it helps them.

(01:36:46):
John smoking a joint right now, Well, it's it's pot
Friday here. The fact is is that you could you
could for any punishment jess of A and not just
a regular d Y. He was extreme d u Y
okay for any punishment like that with the NFL, any

(01:37:09):
sort of number higher than four I still I would,
I think would be okay. You could do eight games,
you could do six team games. There's there's no way
around it to say to make something like that be good,
you know what I mean? Like if you said, you
know what, you get busted for a d U Y
and you are convicted or you take a plea deal,

(01:37:31):
you're not playing the next year. And I think that
the fan base of it would be like, alright, cool.
The the one thousandth of a percent that doesn't care
would be fantasy football owners, and and that's about it.
I think people would be good if you just at
least saw any sort of big suspension with something like
this where no benefit can come well. And and also

(01:37:52):
and I say that, and I'm not being completely serious
when I when I compare Tom Brady's letting the air
out and all that stuff to myke of Floyd. Obviously
it's a completely different circumstances. But also there's the cambucha
T situation in which he was found on you know,
five days away from his you know, in home you
know where he was basically had to stay at home.

(01:38:14):
Is in home house arrest. I want to say, you
call it to where he was five days away from
getting past that and they found that he had the
point zero five five percent blood alcohol and he said, oh,
it was cambucha T. And then the vikings handed out.
So I think that's also why he was handed an
additional couple of games, because the precedents had been sent.

(01:38:35):
If you get busted for a d uy, it's two games,
it's extreme d u. I And then on top of that,
he violated you know, his ninety days. So I get it.
I don't think this is a big deal. Like you said,
they're not gonna be counting down boy. We just hope
we can win a game without Michael Floyd. I don't
know how much he really factored in long term into
this offense to begin with. If you're you know, hey,

(01:38:57):
we can win our home games and just go three
and one, lose that game against the Steelers, we are fine. Which,
by the way, the start could be realistic. You know,
the Buccaneers are gonna be pretty good, but you maybe
take a loss to the to the Steelers, should be
able to hang with the Saints and maybe beat the
beat the Saints early on, and that Adrian Peterson matchup
got the lines of Week four, which could be a
winnable home game. It's like could start three on one.

(01:39:20):
It's like that tool in your fantasy football league last
year who took Tom Brady still in round one, and
his response was, well, you guys just started thinking long term.
You're the only thinking about the first four games of
this season, a pal, when you're owing four, you're probably
still not making the playoffs. Okay, so why don't you
take somebody that can play? And I know that, Dan,

(01:39:42):
because I was that tool that drafted Brady in the
first round. Hey, I'll tell you what I I grabbed
them a little bit later on, but if you could
navigate it and go one and three and two and two,
you're the one laughing at the end because you had
Tom Brady on your team. I'm glad you brought up
the Minnesota Vikings. Okay, Johnny can get some can we
get some Fox NFL music here? Because the reason we

(01:40:04):
brought up the Minnesota Vikings was this. Jonas and I
right now going to tell you what NFL team has
the best chance to go from third to first in
the NFL. Yeah, baby, Okay, some NFL in my pants
off right now? Dan, screw it. You think it's gonna
be the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC, Nor slow down,

(01:40:26):
my friend. When you look deeper into the NFL standings,
when you look into the NFC South, the third place
team there only finished the game back up first. Give
me the Colts the most likely team to go from
third the first of the National Football Loop. Dan, I've

(01:40:46):
got my answer. A lot of people are looking all
around the NFL. They're looking at the A F C.
E S and they're saying, is this the year somebody
topples the Patriots. They're looking at the NFC. They're going
Division by division. But Dan, a team you didn't bring
up that will be the team in the NFL to

(01:41:07):
go from third to third to first in their division.
The Indianapolis Cole Yeah yeah, oh yeah. Coming up next,
who's gonna go second to first in the NFL? Okay,
we want your tweets at j s Wamo Cerial six
to send them all there. You can also reach him

(01:41:27):
at Sexual Healing and at mel Anthony. Those are the
three places if you want to take your second to
first in the National Football League, you can do that.
And by the way, to get a faster response from
John on Twitter, just hashtag It's six hashtag pot Friday
as well. Hello Yeah, Dan Buyer, Jonahs Knocks, and for

(01:41:49):
Doug gott Leevier Fox Sports Radio. You can listen to
the show on the I Heart Radio app. Up next,
though this may go down is one of the worst
contracts ever given out in sports. Find out who we're
talking about sixty seconds from now. But first though, let's
find out what's trending. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm Dan Buyer.
That is John Ramos on a b KR edition. But

(01:42:10):
I'll let you know. Today's show is brought to you
by true car. With true Car, you can find out
what other people in your area paid for the same
car you're looking for. New War use it was a
true car to enjoy a more confident car buying experience, Dan,
this makes my toes tingleh. Duran Duran is so good.
If you're listening to the podcast, too bad, This is
so good, Dan, Track six. Doesn't this make you just

(01:42:35):
want to get undressed? I mean, I already am, but
don't you want to get undressed? Now? We have different
we have different feelings for this song. So that's this
track six of the wedding album, Dann. I just said
it was track six? Did you literally said it was
track seconds? Okay, okay, you don't do yell? But have
you have you pointed out to the audience that this
is tracks? Yes? Absolutely? You know there are there are

(01:43:01):
things this actually this album is something that Jonas and
I when we didn't know each other, um knew that
you know, we had this is something we had in
common that we both thought that this is this song
in ordinary world again is I think magnificent. But these
are two of the best Duran Duran songs there are.
Dan and I have been dating ever since his name
is Gascon and he's got the press full the press.

(01:43:28):
It is spot Friday. So John took the bus. Yes, Yes,
what's going on, Dave? What's the latest happening in the
world of sports, sports and everything else? You guys know
that he has no man versus foods coming back in August? Yes,
I do, different hosts because the other guy almost exploded, right.

(01:43:49):
I don't know how he's still alive, to be honest. Yeah,
he thought he lost a lot of weight. He did,
he did, but he said that eating all those spicy
foods destroyed his insides. It's hard to believe. What about
ginormous food? Have you seen that? Yeah, it takes like
eight guys to carry a pizza around the corner. Have

(01:44:11):
you seen Carnival eats pretty good too? No, Actually, you
know what we've I've only seen deep fried masters. That's
what I've seen that Carnival eats. Well, guys, I bring
that up because the Boston Red Sox, who were in
first place the American League East Division three and a
half games of the New York Yankees, been a transaction today.
They have designated Pablo Santoval for assignment, nevertheless ending his

(01:44:35):
time with Boston, the team owes him forty nine million
dollars still on his contract through the end of twenty nineteen.
Were bringing it up because it was like Panda Express
out of town, was that he's gonna be leaving. Yeah,
I just never seemed to work out for Pablo sval
in Boston. But okay, but Boston again, when we talk

(01:44:59):
about ball market in the NBA against the large market teams,
it's the same thing in baseball. There are some teams
that can absorb HiT's better than others. If you took
a risk on Pablo Sandoval and you are a mid
market team, it's much much worse than it would be
than what the busted Red Sox are. The Red Sox
were doomed when Sandoval signed the contract, and San Francisco

(01:45:20):
Giants players couldn't wait to throw him under the bus
after he left. Get this guy out of here. They
were doing when he signed it in gravy sensitive and
the thing two. As you mentioned, Dan, the San Diego
Padres are also a team that was heavily interested in
his services and they gotten him huge blow to that franchise.

(01:45:40):
By the way, as somebody just sending a tweet and
said and right now we're almost has got to do
be burning gentleman, Scott Petty, you'll sign a five year
deal with the New York Knicks to be the team's
new general manager. He was forming the VP of Basketball
Opts for the Sacramento Kings, but he's in quite a

(01:46:01):
fire right now with this team obviously firing Phil Jackson
just a few days ago. He left the Sacramento Kings
after turning them around in his short stint as the team.
But still, you know, it's a it's a petty move
by the New York naw. I also heard that he
took the gig because his sister Laura Petty didn't want it.

(01:46:22):
Really Yeah, I heard his brother Tom was for it though,
and some are the heartbreakers? Yeah, John, did I did
hear that? Actually, you know what exclusive information. When Scott
Petty took the job with the Knicks, his brother Tom
told him, you got lucky, guys. We'll bring back some

(01:46:48):
TV for a little bit. The final falling. That would
be the obvious one. Go ahead, Dave. Sorry. Finally, the
return of Game with Thrones season number seven is a
Sunday nine o'clock Pacific, six o'clock Eastern it's an HBO staple. Now.
Last season season six, the average over ten and a
half million viewers. Five of the show's main cast members

(01:47:12):
every port as signed single episode records of two point
six million dollars per episode. Then they last up till
season number eight. But it's about ten episodes per season.
That's a healthy amount of changed for the HBO product.
I'm I'm not into the warlords and the dragons and
all the other stuff. I just wasn't into all that

(01:47:33):
growing up. But I'll be honest with you, Game of
Thrones is fantastic. Dan, your favorite Game of Thrones episode?
I like to play mind Sweeper on the Throne's that
in solitary? Dan, you're not a big fan of the
Game with Thrones? Never seen one episode? Not one, not one.
I haven't seen it. I haven't seen a minute of it.
What about Lisa? No no, no. I would, by the way,

(01:47:58):
I would jump off a bridge for Amelia Clark. It's
a good call. It's a good call. Yeah, gentlemen, we go,
we go from the National Football League. Previous to college football,
Bovada gave out some futures today odds on conference champions

(01:48:18):
The famous winner is Florida State there at one to one,
fall by Clemson at three to one. The Big ten
Ohio State is the favorite at five to six. Second
places Wisconsin, Big twelve is Oklahoma. Pack twelve is Southern Cow.
There's one team I left off this list, Jonas they
play at you Mass on August. That is right, yea.

(01:48:45):
Hawaii is forty to one odds on favorite to win
the Mountain West Continent straight. How about that? Brought pasta
longboard ride me on a seat tortoise brought uh Fox
Sports listening on Oahu right now, Danio? Al Right, when
is Leland gonna throw the uh the coin toss? Leland
and Duane Lee? Are they going to come out there?

(01:49:05):
Hey listen, We've lost a lot of money on that
damn team. Man, I would you wear? Okay, one of
these shows tome on, Dave. This isn't overnight, okay, this
is weekday radio. Okay, yeah yeah yeah, And this is
this is weekday s this is this is the big time.
By the way, Dave, now your time zones. It's still
November on a wall. So let's let's get that straight. Okay,

(01:49:29):
one of these days, what do you say you and
I if we're filling in for Doug before the college
football season. We come in throwback Jersey's I'm Colt Brennan,
You're Timmy Chang and sure let's do it. Absolutely. By
the way, my favorite thing of the week, um the
a CEC trying to tell us there the premier Conference. Sure, yeah, absolutely,

(01:49:55):
go right ahead, gentleman. One last story in college football
for Buckeye lin'm acker and Fox Sports analyst Chris Spillman
has filed a class action lawsuit today against the Ohio
State to quote block the usage of players images for
promotional purposes and quote. The lawsuit also include the likes
of Nike, Honda, and the i MG Sports radio network,

(01:50:17):
who Spillman claims have unfairly used images of former Ohio
State athletes. Hey, he's mad because they'll put like, you know,
Toyota sticker on a picture. You know, like it's all
for promotional sort of gain. If it wants to be
like come to Ohio State and be a Buckeye or
you know, all American. He's all with it. But yeah,
it's the the slapping of the corporate sponsors on it.

(01:50:39):
Chris Spielman was still with Fox. Yes, Yes, I support
whatever he says. Very good We've done with this interview.
Absolutely amazing. Um. If you listen to the podcast, David
gas Gun will run down all the odds for every
college football team. Yes, so you can get that edge

(01:51:00):
on one through who just started it today. It's called
podcast Plus. It's a separate track. You can listen to
what happened to Extreme podcast? That one got taken off. Okay,
I just wanted to know, just wanted to make sure. Thanks.
By the way, John also does another podcast called a
pod on Rods, so you can you can a lot. Now,

(01:51:23):
get your minds out of the gutter. Okay, get you
get get your minds out of the gutter. It's it's
the greatest Rods in the history of sports. Rod Woodson,
Rod Smith, how do you guys are perverse? Jesus, Yeah, no,
I know what you mean. Rod Carew is never one
not to spoil it. But John's a baseball fan. Absolutely. Uh.
Dan Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb. Here Fox

(01:51:43):
Sports Radio. You can listen to. The show is always
on the I Heart Radio app. You can get Dan
on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. You can give
me at the Jonas knocks up next though, we have
a preview for you of something major in sports, but
you were going to hear it like you won't hear
anywhere else. That's next year on FSR. I'm Dan Buyer.

(01:52:05):
That's Jonas Knock sees John Ramos. I honestly have no
idea what we've done for the last three hours except
goof off. It's a system of a down, Dan. This
is your wife's Saver band. Yes, ye them and you too,
So that's whenever they're in town, we always go always always. Um,
I don't know any system of the down song. I
probably know them, I just don't know the name of them,

(01:52:27):
and I wouldn't be able to say track six because
there would be zero seats. That is actually uh that well,
that was um the name of that song, John is
not Aerials, not Chop Suey. That was toxicity. Yeah, that
was that's track twelve. I don't know what track it is.
Track twelve. Well, I know you have stolen music, but
if you actually paid for it, it's track twelve on
the seat. He's Jonas Knocks. That is John Ramos. I'm

(01:52:52):
Dan Buyer in for Doug Gottlieb today and today also
is the start of the second half of the Major
League Baseball season. Okay, And so as we like to
do here on Fox Sports Radio, we want to get
you ahead of the game. Okay. We want to tell
you what's going to happen. Sure, we react to what
has happened, okay, but we want to let you know

(01:53:14):
first of what is going on. So we are going
to let you know what is going to happen in
the second half of the Major League Baseball season. Let's
get it going, n Okay, major League BA. We got
the wheels, we have the wheel. We can just do it,
all right, all bring it in, Ryan and Lee have
it all right, guys, Yeah, don't know god, okay, okay, alright, okay, alright, good,

(01:53:43):
we're in place. Alright. Let's just spin the wheel and
see what teams we land on. And whatever team lands on,
we will tell you how their second half will end
up playing playing out. Okay, but we are gonna do
it via analysis and also our favorite sound drops. All right,
let's spin the wheel. Let's spin the wheel. Man. All right,

(01:54:08):
there it is, uhh Yankees, Johnny Rabmos, what do you
got for us on the Yankees second half? Of the season.
Things aren't gonna be smelling good for New York right now,
three and a half games back of the Red Sox

(01:54:29):
in the American leagues. But Jonas, I think more people
actually think that the Rays could be more of a
threat to Boston than the actual New York Yankees. Of course,
we heard the news Michael Panete's out today. Uh, the
Yankees could be stinking According to John Ramos, all right,
let's crank that wheel again and see who else we
got up. Um oh, let's go Crosstown, the Mets, the

(01:54:52):
New York Mats. Thoughts on the second half for those
in New York Mats over here? Man, Yeah, can I
get a single a player over here? Um? I need
to have a correction that also would include the Mets
first half of the season, So it's not only a
look ahead, that is also what they have done so far,

(01:55:13):
So it fits both once you think, yeah, no, it
makes a lot of sense. And uh, and I don't listen.
You and I have been on this for months. You
and I were the first people here on Fox Sports Trading.
And I don't care what anybody else says. Who told
you Tim Tebow would be called up to the name.
Let's spin that wheel now, that's a fantastic Okay, all right,
thanks Doug. That's a fantastic time to spin the wheel

(01:55:36):
right now, right now, it would be a fantastic time
to spin the wheel. Okay, no, bands, shut up, you
don't have the wheel. Now, would be a fantastic time
to spin the wheel. Okay. By the way, it is
a Friday. Every Friday, John runs the board with his feet.
So Cubs, the Chicago Cubs, her Cubs. God, well, what

(01:55:58):
do we got in the second half of the Chicago Cubs? Hell?
And I'm not gonna take this anymore? Is Lelia not bad? Yes?
That that makes a lot of sense. They're not going
to the playoffs. Cubs fans should be mad because now
you know what it's like to deal with expectations. Yeah,
you're no longer the lovable losers. You're just losers this year.
Why don't you nerds go right on the outfield wall

(01:56:20):
again so they can just spray it down two days later.
How about you take that W flag and add inners
like your whiners? Yeah yeah, or just hanging L. There
is an L flag. By the way, that people don't
know there is an el no, John, there is they
hanging l flag when they lose. That's why it all started.
But Cubs fans don't have those. Um Let's spin the
wheel again. The band new their place this time? Jones, Dodgers, Goger,

(01:56:49):
all right, what do we got for the Dodgers today?
We celebrate our Independence Day from the mast of the
week West that they are in their own division where
they will get their own birth. The good news is
is they'll finish first. The bad news is they'll finish last.
You know what's funny about that. We could have done
a season preview for the Notre Dame football team that

(01:57:11):
would have been the same. Found that those independents like
can stick together. Dan absolutely. Apparently the doctor is just
gonna go out on their own. Actually it maybe apropos
because that race is over with. It's done. Market down
right now, he market down. You know what backdated? You know,
post dated. Let's let's back it up whatever you need,
say June twelve, the Dodgers are gonna win the NLS banded.

(01:57:36):
Let's spin the wheel. Brewers all right, what do we
got to the Brewers? Was that Bernie Brewer? Yeah, Hell,
Bernie Brewer and the oar Ball the way Bernie Brewer now, now,

(01:58:00):
the fact that he was able to do that while
sliding down drunk, he's impressive. Here's the here's I'm gonna
give you guys the backstory. Okay, LaVar Ball stole Triple
B because it was the Bernie Brewer brand. Okay, and
that's why Bernie Brewer is mad at LaVar Ball. There's
some quartz stuff to be worked out. That's why Bernie
Brewer said that about LaVar Ball. I'm believable. Oh look

(01:58:25):
at that too, kid, Washington Nationals. It's over, Jenny, Oh
my god. For more on the nets, we're joined by
melt Antony Combers, the Nationals and other Major League Baseball
Oh what was the nets sound again? I forgot? It's over, Jenny. Yeah,
that's over. Especially with that bullpen. They aren't going anywhere.

(01:58:45):
Let's crank it, crank it. Oh, yacky way, baby Red Sox,
Red Sox Final one, the Red Sox. How's the second half?
Looking a painted is mats in the cauld is unbelievable.
He's Damniti it is damn I have no idea what

(01:59:05):
that man? I don't either,
