Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the best of the dun Got Leap Show
on Fox Sports Radio. What Up, It's got Leap Show,
Fox Sports Radio, coming to you from the beautiful city
of Los Angeles, where the Dodgers away the winner of
tonight's n L wild Card game. We'll talk some baseball

(00:20):
to begin in mere moments. Plus uh one former Steeler
calling out a current former Steeler and maybe that explains
what's going on with all of the Steelers. And uh, Well,
NBA g ms can make foollest decisions. They are not fools,
nor are nor are they fooled by what has happened
in the off season. We got a lot to get
to today. Kyle Whittingham, head coach of Utah. I don't

(00:43):
know if you saw this the Utes, both of them
do ut Okay, If you don't know that one, I
can't help you with movie references. The Utes are ranked
this week um in the ap n Coaches Pull. The
Utes are also underdogs at home to an unranked foe,
five point underdogs. Why the hey good no respect? Why

(01:04):
from Kyle West Kyle Whittingham, their head coach, Plus Need
COLLETI will join us. He's a former general manager of
the lawyers, The Dodgers await the winner of the Rockies
and Diamondbacks. Who do they want to face most? And UH,
can Clayton Kershaw get over the uh postseason disasters of
the past? Plus Daniel Jeremiah Peter king Man. Do we

(01:27):
have a good show for you? Let's get to what
we saw last night. What's great about baseball is you
got data, lots of data. Do you like data? If
you're a data guy, then there's nothing better than baseball
because you got a hundred and sixty two damn games. Right.

(01:49):
It's one of those things where you're like, I wonder
what I wonder how Aaron Judge hits against left handed
pitching at night with a two two count like that?
Hold on, we got that for you. I wonder, I wonder,
I wonder how good Brett Gardner is at home in

(02:09):
the first inning. Oh, we got that for you. Irvan
Santana is a starting pitching starting pitcher in Yankee Stadium.
Ques Remember he's pitched for two other American League teams,
been the league for almost a decade. Like, we got
that for you. We have data, lots and lots and

(02:31):
lots of data. And so while sometimes you get outliers
because this is a one game, winner, take all play
in game that we call the playoffs. Sometimes we get
sometimes we get things that are outside of of the norm.

(02:55):
High points in the average, low points in the average.
Like Irvan Santana had a very good season three point
to eight e r A. He had a hundred and
sixty seven strikeouts in two only walk batters, so doesn't
walk guys a ton strikes, you know, is a swinging

(03:18):
miss picture, although uh not at the very very top
of major League baseball. And oh oh oh, he gave
up thirty one home runs, which is the eleventh most
in Major League Baseball. And if you look at Urban
Santana's career and I know this mostly because I'm an
Angel fan, he's last year with the Angels, which is
going back like six years ago, he gave up thirty

(03:41):
nine home runs. So he's a good picture. His career
e r A is right out about four. Um. He's
pitched in three hundred and seventy nine games in his career.
We got data, lots of data, and he has a
tenants need to give up home runs. Oh yeah, and

(04:02):
it's Yankee Stadium, which is a home run hitters ballpark.
It has a short right field porch. It has a
breeze that comes in that pushes balls out to right
field baseball. The baseball is more live this year than
it's been. Hitters have also adjusted their swing planes this year,
even more so than in the past. The Yankees are

(04:24):
a home run hitting team, and so Urban Santana was
given an absolute gift. The greatest thing you can get
when you're a pitcher in a big spot in a
pressure field, Well, you hope a guy has confidence. You
hope a guy has been there before. This is a

(04:45):
veteran player. Urban Santenna has been a league for twelve years.
He's thirty four years old. He's pitched in the playoffs before.
He is not a spring chicken. The greatest thing you
can give a picture is run support. They give him
three runs. They jumped all out, out, all over the Yankees.
Servino did not last the first damn inning. And this

(05:10):
is what happened in the Yankees radio network. Swung on
and drill did he right? It is high, hit us far,
it is gone. It ties the game. Yes, and Dad
preclorious makes Yankee fans euphorious. There it goes deep, right,
it is high hit us far head is gone, second dirt,

(05:33):
Oh let the GUARDI party begins. Gardener plant swung and
the right veil seats saw that GUARDI goes YARDI and
the Yankees take off four three leaves. The comparable John Sterling,
get it comparable because everybody always says the incomparable, like
Boog Shambi's call on the National Network. Incomparable the comfortable

(05:56):
John Sterling on the Yankees radio network with the call,
here's the thing. Baseball gives you data, tons of data.
And what if I told you all year about baseball games.
They're long, they're boring, and they're filled with these peaks
and valleys. The peaks are home runs. The valleys are
waiting for those home runs. And that's what we got

(06:16):
last night. Game went over four hours. He was eight
to four. The Yankees took a punch and then landed
a CounterPunch. Urban Santana was given a gift, a three
run lead heading into the bottom of the first inning,
and he could not hold it. And the Yankees do
what they have done, which is hit a bunch of

(06:37):
home runs when the game place goes crazy. So while
sometimes Major League basically like well, five game series. Uh,
it didn't fall in line with the data because there's
there's not enough of it right in this particular case,
Urban Santenna has a tensity to give up home runs.

(06:58):
Yankees have a tendency to hit a bunch either way.
The Minnesota Twins, who hit a couple of home runs
of their own, hit two of them of their own.
The Twins, who let off with home runs in the
first inning, uh, had two home runs of the first inning.
The Twins had more home runs than anybody in baseball
in the second half of the season. This fell right
in line with the data. Yankees had a better bullpen,

(07:21):
that better bullpunt ben one the day. But however, don't
be fooled if you haven't been paying attention, because if
you haven't been paying attention, you're like, oh, they got
a roll this Chapman, he's awesome. They got Dellan Betances,
he's awesome. They have David Robertson. You saw him last night.

(07:44):
He was, in fact awesome. That was the Yankees ace.
He did not make it out of the first inning.
He couldn't get the second out. So let's start with
the Twins. Okay, if you can't beat the Yankees, and
all you gotta do is beat them one game and

(08:04):
you get a three nothing lead. If you can't beat them,
you're never going to beat them. You can't beat them
when they're young. Now when they're pitching staff Is Servino's
only twenty three years old. Now they're gonna get better
in the future. Twins, if you see the Yankees in
your bracket, don't buy green bananas. Secondly, this fell right
in line with the data. Thirdly, most importantly, please don't

(08:28):
be fooled by the Yankees win last night. They were
in fact the better team. It was in fact a
great matchup. It was a tremendous comeback, but they got
huge problems in their starting rotation. And oh yeah, by
the way, there's no trust in Dylan batanceas that's why
you didn't see him last night. And Aroldis Chapman looked

(08:48):
good last night, three strikeouts, four batters faced. But Chapman
has been up and down all year as his arm
must be worn out from overuse last year with the Cubs.
The Yankees aren't good. They were simply better than the Twins,
and it fell in line with the data that told
us they were better than the Twins. I enjoyed it.

(09:10):
Playoff Baseball still cool. Playoff baseball and Yankee Stadium still
very cool. Um and Aaron Judge, I'm at that ball.
Holy hell? Do heat that hard? Right? Oh my goodness
that he as a line drive as a laser filled
with liquid hot magma. Sorry, I just I love Austin Powers.

(09:34):
I just do eight seven seven nine Foxes. The phone
number eight seven seven at Gottlieb Show is in fact
the Twitter handle. Yeah, Like the best news for the
Yankee pitcher there, like, hey, look, bad news is bad
news is that Luis Sorvino only last the third third

(09:56):
of an inning. Okay, that's the bad news, right. It
couldn't forge about making out the first inning. He couldn't
make it to the second out. Guy's bad news, right,
we all agree as bad news. The good news is
he might be so well rested we could use him
in Game two against Corey Kluber, who's gonna win the
Cy Young for the for the second time. That is

(10:17):
that is some spinning right there. That is some serious spin.
Who do you think I like in that series? Be
sure to catch live editions of The Doug gott Leaps Show.
Weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Every year there's
a survey of all the general managers in the league. Right,

(10:39):
and my feelings are that gentlemen people in their business,
in their industry. No, right, No. And I'm not talking
about like college football or college basketball rankings because oftentimes
those are not done by the coach themselves, and at
the end of the season they don't really know because

(11:00):
they've been so laser laser focused on their particular team.
But um, but but here's the here's the here's the thing.
If it's the start of the year, you get a
really good sense for what they think of the talent

(11:22):
in the league. And though they can make foolish decisions,
like gms, make fullist decisions all the time, sometimes not
within their powers. Sometimes its ownership. Sometimes it's hey, this
is the best we can do, and we had to
dump a salary, we had to dump a personality that
didn't fit. They can be foolish, but they can't be fooled.
And the perfect example is how they how they ranked

(11:42):
and voted some of these players, and and what they
value and what they know to be reality. I'll give
you a couple of examples. Which team will win the
NBA Finals Golden State Cleveland seven, Eastern Conference Finals rank
Eastern Conference rankings Cleveland one, Boston to Washington three, Toronto four,

(12:05):
Milwaukee five. Uh. The one team that actually has has
they feel like has a chance to crack that top
four outside of those listed would be Miami. Eight percent
voted Miami as the fourth best team in the West.
Golden State one, Houston to San Antonio, San Antonio three,

(12:29):
Oklahoma City four. And what's interesting about this is this
is where I said they can't be fooled, Like we
get all Oh they got Carmelo Anthony. Oh they got
Paul George. Oh they got Russell Westbrook. But even though
the point guard situation seems a little unsettled, what San
Antonio will look like? Will Tony Parker returned this year

(12:51):
and how will he play when he returns? Even though
LaMarcus Alter is a bad fit. Like the end of
the day, that team won sixty games last year, can't
be fooled Minnesota, everybody thinks will be the most improved
team that that appears to be obvious. Who will win
the m v P Lebron votes k d the votes Kauai,
James Hard and Steph Curry. Where, oh, where is Russell Westbrook?

(13:16):
And the obvious answer is, hey, look now he's got
two other legit scoring stars. He won't have the volume
of possessions to have the triple doubles that he may
have a better season, but it won't look as good.
He won't average as many points, he won't shoot as
many shots, he won't have as many touches, he won't

(13:36):
make as many plays. Whereas Lebron take Kyrie out and
you don't have Uh, you don't have Isaiah Thomas for
the first at least half of the season, He's got
a chance to win that m v P. Again, if
you were starting a franchise today and you could sign
one player in the NBA, who would it be? Karl

(13:58):
Anthony Town's one, the Greek freak to Lebron three, Kauai four,
Kevin Durant five, Steph and Anthony Davis Uh round out
the top seven. So like, look, I I think it's
it's pretty interesting that NBA g m s are not
fooled by the bright shining objects of Houston of Oklahoma City,

(14:21):
even though they voted to Houston be the second best
team by a slight margin over San Antonio. Houston was
close to that last year anyway. And the m v P,
they're not voting based upon who the best player is,
although they all believe that Lebron is still the best
all around player. It's about opportunities. They make foolish decisions,

(14:43):
but I don't believe they can be fooled. Fox Sports
Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.

com and within the I Heart Radio app. If you
look at Matt Stafford and how he's viewed now, how
he's playing now, how that offense moves staff the fact
that he's cut down on his turnovers, you start to

(15:05):
realize there's a bit of a correlation there. In Hey,
when did Calvin Johnson retire? Wasn't it before last season?
Calvin Johnson's a great was a great player, great player.
He had over a thousand yards receiving six consecutive years,

(15:31):
seven of his last eight years, actually seven of the
nine and seven of the nine years he played in
the National Football League, he led the league in receiving
yards twice. Both of those were bad seasons for the
Detroit Lions. So part of it is there's a correlation
between when you're bad and you get down, you're gonna

(15:52):
throw the ball more. I'm not so obtuse to not
mention that. But part of it is that Matt Stafford
has become better and more efficient and less turnover prone
since he doesn't have Calvin Johnson. And how could that?
That's counterintuitive, isn't it. Normally you think, well, you gotta
have arguably the best wide receiver in the league if

(16:14):
you want to put up good numbers, and and that
is that is at least partially true. Partially true. Look
at Julio Jones is numbers, and you actually might see
kind of a similar correlation in for Matt Ryan. Julio

(16:34):
Jones is without when healthy in the discussion best wide
receiver league. But his numbers actually went down last year
and the Falcons were two and oh when he didn't
play last season. That doesn't mean that he's not awesome.
He led the league in receiving yards two years ago.
Last year's numbers were down. What does that mean? Why

(16:56):
I look at this Antonio Brown thing? Um, remember Antonio
Brown through a hissy fit on the sidelines when he
was open. No one's disputing that he was wide open,
that Ben Roethlisberger missed him, but Roethlisberg came out and
criticized him. Now. He also said, Antonio Brownie thinks he's

(17:18):
the best wide receivemed to league, one of the best
to ever play the position. But he also criticized so
too did Mike Tomlin. You know a b as a competitor,
and we all know and understand that, Uh it aids him,
it aids us, But we gotta control it. He has
to control it. It doesn't need to happen. It shouldn't happen.
Hopefully it won't move him forward. Hopefully he's learned a lesson.

(17:41):
Antonio brown said, apologize for all the noise and distraction,
steal a nation. Let's stay focused. Hashtag push for seven
to be their seventh Super Bowl title. This's the same
guy who had the Facebook live in the locker room.
Is the same guy who shows up with the Great
poopon and the rolls Royce. This is the same guy
who got the big contract in the offseason, which only
makes him feel and act more entitled because he is

(18:03):
entitled based upon the money that he makes. But if
you want to know why the steel like, you look
at the steels like, man, I got some dudes there. Now?
Am I willing to put some of the blame on
Ben Roethisberger's solders? Yeah, Like, I think there's a very
good possibility that Ben Rothsberger is on the downside of
his career. Downside. That doesn't mean he's washed up, that

(18:23):
doesn't mean he can't play anymore. But there's a It's
fair to say that Ben Rossberger has been better in
the past, has been younger, fresh, or better. I'm not
arguing with that. But when you have when you have
Mark Tavis Bryant, when you have quality tight end play,
when you have Levan bell As you're running back, when
you have Antonio Brown like you got, you should be

(18:46):
dusting teams off. Their defense has been good enough, their
offense has been Isn't it fair to say that some
of it, maybe a good portion of it, is the
Antonio Brown effect. He wants the ball, he poules for
the ball, He's selfish, he's an egomaniac, and he is

(19:10):
It makes it really hard to call plays. Be sure
to catch live editions of the Doug Gott Leap Show
weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Welcome to Peter
King from Sports illus Trade Um. He joins us on
behalf of seat Geek. All right, let's let's start with
the Patriots. You know, everybody in the NFL says we

(19:31):
don't know what you have till October one, and this
is Bill Belichick's worst month historically, But he has a
defense that is historically bad, a four year old quarterback
who's actually playing quite well even though he lost his
top receiver from last year. Peter, how fixable are the
Patriots defensive issues? Well, I'll tell you this, dog. I

(19:52):
just spent a good portion of the day today watching
the Carolina game. All the Patriots defensive snap up and
after the game. Normally I don't place a lot of
stock in what players say after the game, but after
this particular game, the Patriots locker room was filled with
defensive players saying it's a communication issue. We simply have

(20:14):
to communicate better. And you know what, they're absolutely, unequivocally right.
It is amazing. Before the snap of the ball so
many times against the Carolina Panthers, guys are pointing particularly
Stefan Gilmar, who I think is the most culpable guy
on that defense right now. Stefan Gilmore and and another

(20:35):
defensive back on the Fozzy Whittaker touchdown that was just inexcusable.
Nobody covered Fozzy Whittaker and he comes leaks out of
the backfield to the left right into the hole that
Stefan Gilmore vacates to follow Christian McCaffrey in motion across
the across the across the field. And so to me,

(20:58):
all of these issues are know your assignments, play your assignments,
and don't make dumb mistakes. And in my opinion, a
lot of what is going on with the Patriots now
is making dumb communication mistakes that veteran players absolutely should
not make. And I'll just say one other thing about
the Patriots right now. This is the worst week possible

(21:21):
for New England to play a short week Thursday night
road game, you know, Doug. They flew this afternoon from
uh New England to Tampa for tomorrow's game. Today is
the day that teams normally start their practice week to
prepare for the next game, and the Patriots needed three

(21:43):
very good hard practices to get out of this funk.
They had basically a half of one practice on Tuesday.
So I mean, you know, this is this is if
I'm if I'm the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I'm saying we're
never going to have a better chance to beat the
Patriot if then we do this Thursday night. Could Stephen
Gilmore be to the defense what Chad Johnson was to

(22:05):
the offense? And remember, people do remember because because Chad
Johnson didn't cost all that much money. I mean, I
just I just I just mean from this perspective, Peter,
that Chad Johnson could never figure like he was allowed
to freelance. He didn't know where he was supposed to be,
and they just figured it out before he got there.
You can't do that with Tom Brady. Same thing with

(22:27):
this defense. You can't even Junior say, who's the greatest
freelance freelancer is a linebacker we've ever seen? He wasn't
allowed to freelance with that defense, and ultimately he fit in.
I wonder if Stefan Gilmore can figure it out in time,
otherwise he'll be gone. Well I don't think he can
be gone. They owned too much money. He would be
too huge a cap hit for them because he signed

(22:50):
an enormous contract on the highest paid defensive backs in football,
So it's not like they can just wave a magic
want to get rid of them. My feeling is that
hold on, I'll have to get you Peter King back
in one second. Uh. My feeling is all of a
sudden that the cell phone went bad. You almost feel

(23:11):
like Belichick had put the little jinks and put the
little jinks on on the cellphone. Peter King will rejoin us,
Samir moments from the MMQB dot com like, look, that's
that was The Gilmore thing is basically this like can
he not figure it out? And it's It's would be
really interesting for a team that so rarely has missed
on veteran players in their evaluation those veteran players, if

(23:32):
the Patriots massively swung and missed on this guy, it happens.
It happened with Chad Johnson, Chad Johnson covering up otherwide
receivers because he's on the line of scrimmage, not knowing
and he was completely useless. All right, you're gonna Peter,
you were saying, My feeling is Stefan Gilmore and then

(23:52):
we lost you go ahead. Yeah, probably spent a couple
of days in the principal's office this week and basically
was told that, look, you're not gonna play if you
keep doing making mental errors. That's just my gut feeling
that somebody met Patricia Bill Belichick, whoever, um you know,
had to have talked to him about it, because right
now you can't make mistakes like that in the New

(24:14):
England offense and survived Peter King joining us on the
Doug Gotlip Show. Let's let's get to the Pittsburgh stealers.
Antonio Brown apologized on Twitter He's been chastised by his
quarterback and by his coach. And look they're still sitting
there top their division at three and one. Part of
it is the division, but they haven't been clicking on

(24:34):
our cylinders on offense. Is this the reason why? Because
there's dysfunction? Um or is there something else? No? I
think that was one play that Antonio Brown basically severely
overreacted to, and after he sat down and actually watched
the play and watched Ben Roethlisberger go through his reads,

(24:55):
he legitimately felt like he made a mistake in getting
angry about it. That's good for Antonio Brown. I think
the reason why both Mike Tomlin and Roethlisberger came out
and were I want to I don't want to say
they were strong against Antonio Brown when that usually happens.
What it means is that that stuff you want a
you want to nipot in the butt. B It's probably

(25:16):
happening a little bit too often. And you know, I
wish that O'Dell Beckham Jr. Felt the exact same way.
After he screws up, he doesn't seem to be able
to admit, Hey, I made a mistake. I apologized good
and good on Antonio Brown for doing that. But I
was at their game on Sunday, and the one thing
I really like about the Steelers is they don't like

(25:36):
they don't try to force it doug when when they
saw what was happening in that game. And obviously Brandon Williams,
one of the best run players in football, is out
for Baltimore, and they've got one of the best backs
in football, obviously Levi on Bell, they just kept feeding
him and feeding him. It was almost like an old
classic Emmett Smith game. He touched the ball thirty five times.

(25:58):
I had thirty five rushes. I saw Bell after the
game and I said, man, I don't know if you're
gonna be able to keep up that pace. Heat You
had thirty five rushes and he looked at me and
I said, my god, I did. And he didn't even
realize how many times he had touched the ball, because
when you're in the middle of the game, you're not
counting that. But I think that the Steelers are going
to be okay on offense. But I do think i'd

(26:20):
be a little bit concerned after four weeks that you
really don't have your passing game and sink. All right,
what about the Ravens, who their offense has just been dreadful.
I know they beat the Browns and the Bengals to
start the year, but that offense was bad in London
and was was worse on Sunday against that Steelers defense.
I know they got look the Raiders, but the Raiders

(26:41):
without Derek Carr, and they get the Bears at home,
who will be starting a rookie quarterback. Then they go
to the Vikings in their quarterback situation and no Dalvin Cook.
So uh, the schedule isn't nearly as difficult as one
would have thought. To start the season. But what about
that Ravens offense which has been so dreadful. I'd be
extremely worried if were John Harbaugh. This is now going

(27:02):
on more than a year, because first of all, last year,
you know, we're not even talking about the time when
when when Flacco is not playing? But I mean this
when is when's the last time Joe Flacco put three
or four really good games together. I mean, it's been
a long time, and I think the Ravens have to

(27:24):
be concerned. I mean, I don't I don't see Joe
Flacco making a lot of great throws like he did
four and five years ago. Uh, you know, his throw
in the wild card game at Denver to get Baltimore,
to get him in position to go to that Super
Bowl and to win that Super Bowl. And that's the

(27:44):
postseason where he earned the twenty million a year contract,
um and he bet on himself and he won. But really,
I mean, he's he is. He is playing poorly and
without having a great running game. It honestly where you
have to depend on you really have to depend on.

(28:05):
Uh you know, you have to depend on your quarterback
to play well. I don't know, Doug, I I would
be extremely worried about the Ravens being able to come back.
And that plus the fact that I think their defense
played great early on obviously ten points in the first
two games, but the last two weeks they've been just
paper machee and so I don't like the Ravens much

(28:29):
at all. Right now, Peter King joining us. If you
go to SeatGeek dot com, you use the promo code King,
you get twenty dollars off your first seat Geek purchase.
Of course, the website that Peter is the editor in
chief four is the mm QB dot com. It is fantastic. Um. Look,
the part of it has to be that they didn't
lose their confidence because of a soft early schedule. But

(28:50):
part of it is they got some good wide receivers,
and they got Andrew Whitworth at left tackle, and and
and they've got a really good play color. I'm just
wondering if people in the league are buying into the
Rams as being legitimate after after I know some stats
pointed to the Dallas Cowboys, but they did come from behind,
go in and beat the Cowboys in Dallas. They're starting
to believe in them, and I'll tell you why you

(29:11):
mentioned Whitworth. Also that you know, Doug, one of the
things that people don't seem to realize about these Rams
is that they're a hugely different team on offense this
year than they were last year. Two of the offensive
lineman the best too right now, John Suliman at center,
Andrew Whitworth at left tackle, who probably is my All

(29:34):
Pro left tackle after four games. Um, you know, they're
new on the line. Three of the four start you
know three and I call them starting receivers Cooper Cup
and and Robert Woods and uh, Sammy Watkins. They're all new.
And add to that the fact that Jared Goff is
getting coached great by by Sean McVeigh and his offensive stuff.

(29:58):
And you know, I always thought that Jeff Fisher wanted
Todd Gurley to be uh Eddie George re Dux, Okay,
but Sean McVeigh wants Todd Gurley to be Marshall Falk.
And I think that the Marshall Falk model suits Gurley's
game a lot. And I don't think any of us

(30:18):
knew how good out of the backfield Todd Gurley was
going to be, but he is excellent. I'll tell you
one other quick story from training camp from my visit
to the Rams. You know, Sean McVeigh was out there
with with with the with the quarterbacks and this was
the first practice of their seat of their summer. Okay,
I went to their first practice. Sean McVeigh spent virtually

(30:42):
one percent of the practice with the quarterbacks, running the quarterbacks,
one running the quarterback drills with Jared Goffe and that
work has really really paid off. Peter. Uh, last thing
Adrian Peterson struggle in New Orleans. The Vikings need a
running back. You know how this thing usually works in

(31:03):
your career. You retire and then you sign a one
day contract with the Vikings. But could the Vikings get
a what would it be a twelve game contract? Any
thought to the Vikings reaching out and bringing one of
their all time grades back. I don't think it's impossible.
I don't think it's impossible. But Adrian Peterson really had
some bruise feelings, uh, you know, at the end of

(31:25):
his time in Minnesota, because he felt like the contract
he signed the Vikings committed to him, and he thought
he was going to live out and play out his
contract and that didn't happen. Um I'm not saying it's impossible,
but I'm saying that a lot of uh there'd have

(31:46):
to be some interesting conversations that would take place for
Adrian Peterson to swallow his pride to go play there.
In my opinion, I don't say it's impossible, but I
say I would call it right now unlikely. The MMQB

gonna take a lot of heat and I'll give you

(32:26):
my thoughts on it. Here's Cam Newton. He's asked a
question by female reporter at his weekly press conference. Take
a listen. I know you take a lot of pride
in seeing your receivers playing well. Devin Funchs has seemed
to really embrace the physicality of his routes and and
making getting those extra yards because I give you a

(32:47):
little bit of an enjoyment to see him kind of
truck steaking people out there. It's funny to hear female
talk about routes like it's funny. Um, of course, at
some point there's going to be an apology coming, and
we're supposed to feel. We're supposed to feel like Cam's
the worst person on earth. And if you saw the
smile and the look on his face, it was it

(33:08):
was condescending. But we know what he's getting at, don't
we music What is he getting at the I play
the game and you don't play the game, reporter, Now
I don't. It's not I play the game and you
don't play the game. It's you never played the game.
You're talking about something that you have no idea what

(33:29):
you're talking about. Now, UM, real quick, let me just
add this. This also isn't The reporter's name is Jordan's
Rodrigue for The Charlotte Observer. She also tweeted, UM, I
spoke with him after and it was worse. I chose
not to share because I have an actual job to
do today and he will not keep me from that. Um, look,

(33:49):
it's hard to be it's hard to be a female reporter.
It's hard to be a fuel reporter. And it what's
amazing about it was, um, what's what you know? What's
what's what's amazing about it is that, Um I I look,

(34:10):
I think that there's plenty of NFL reporters who never
played football either. And I do think I do think
there's always a disconnect with NFL players. Man. I think
Danigel Williams, like, does Daniel Williams know that I played basketball?
Do you have any idea? He's no idea? Who I am?
He comes on, he does the I played you didn't think?
Doesn't bother me. I think it's kind of funny. It's

(34:32):
a it's kind of a fun thing we do. We're like, well,
let me get the non players, Like all right, dude,
go for it. Here's here's my opinion. Like I'm a dope,
Like I don't know what I'm talking about. Um, but
it is something that it's like, look, I know that
we're so wanting for an NFL coach to be or
an assistant coach to be a woman, and I think
somebody hired a woman who's is on staff on some

(34:56):
level quality control coach. Right. I think it was the
Bills who hired like a quality head of quality control.
Quality control watches the films and and you know they
go through film every day, which is a great way
of of kind of breaking into coaching, breaking into the
front office. Yeah, it's Katherine Smith Smith, who's the Bills

(35:21):
special Teams quality control coach. Like that is not a
high level assignment. On the other hand, it's gonna be
really hard for her to climb the ladder because she
didn't play. Like, look, the reality of it is inside
a locker room, when you didn't play and you didn't coach,
athletes don't really respect you. They just don't. And then

(35:47):
when you're a woman and there's no chance that you
played in their mind, they don't. And so look, obviously
Cam comes across incredibly condescending. It's gonna be made out
to be sexist, but really this is it's not sexist.
This is an I played and you obviously did not. Boy,

(36:10):
Cam is not He is not good at the press conference.
Not good. Do I think that makes him the worst
human being on earth? I don't um, but I think
this continue This is like, look, dude, you finally played
good this year. Like, just take a breath and understand

(36:31):
that she asked a question which I don't think she
had to ask about the routes or whatever. But you
also didn't have to go there and do the I play.
You didn't. You're a chick. I'm a dude. You don't
know anything about what you're talking about in football, even
if we all know it to be true.
