Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Boom, What Up America, Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to you from the
beautiful city of Los Angeles. We will have playoff baseball
this aid in. Plus you got the Cubbies taken on

(00:21):
the Nationals Game two of Indians Yankees. Wow, we got
some great and up Major League Baseball playoffs already underway
with the Astros holding a two to one lead in
the game, a one nothing lead in the series. Welcome
in Hope. You really enjoyed Thursday night. That was um.

(00:42):
Look in college football, it was what we expected. Every
time Louisville plays somebody good. They look like you'd expect
Louisville football to look. We'll we'll talk about the Lamar
Jackson hype train and how it got derailed. We will
discuss Major League suppose plays, something that I have told
you about all season long in baseball, and only now

(01:06):
is the public becoming aware of something that baseball people
know oh so well. And um, and then of course
we had NFL football. I've always been fascinated by this
is luck a good thing. And by luck, I don't
mean Andrew luck, I mean luck being lucky. I know

(01:29):
that oftentimes we don't like um to be told we're lucky.
We'd like to be told we're good. But but how
is luck a bad thing? Somehow when you tell somebody
they're lucky, oftentimes they take offense to it. But the
truth is last night the New England Patriots were incredibly lucky, fortunate,

(01:53):
if you will, you want to use a better term.
And it's weird because you know, before somebody leaves for
a game, you or when you shake hands before a game,
you always say, what what do you say to your opponent?
Good luck? Then when they actually have luck and you
say they were lucky, somehow people think that means they
weren't good. Like it's it's an affront to their level

(02:16):
of skill. William Patriots won five Super Bowls, five um
with Tom Brady is their quarterback. He was not great
last night. You might even say he wasn't all that
good last night. But they were lucky. They didn't have
Rob Gronkowski. Obviously they're trying to find out if Danny

(02:37):
Danniel Mandola can stay healthy enough to be there, Julian Needelman.
And though they won the game, it wasn't like they
won the game. It was more like Tampa lost the game.
Tampa's got all sorts of issues in their kicking game
and by missing three makeable field goals or at least
two of them were makable fifty six yards at the
end of the first half, which is part of a

(02:59):
cluster you know what of errors that the Patriots made. Look,
the Patriots commit dubbing penalties. They don't protect Brady there,
they don't pressure the passer. They are not an elite
football team in spite of the fact that people thought
they would be coming into the year. But if you've

(03:20):
looked at their schedule they have They have the Jets,
then they have Atlanta at home, the Charges at home,
they have a bye week, and then five of their
next six games are on the road. Right now, they're
in a seven of ten on the road stretched out.
Maybe that doesn't matter as much in the NFL, especially

(03:41):
with the Patriots having lost both of their games that
they lost at home this season, But as it gets
later in the season, teams play better at home, and
their home record over the Tom Brady era has been amazing.
You'd think at some point they'd figure it out. But
to do so in a short week without your best

(04:02):
offensive weapon without protecting properly your quarterback and kind of
being out played at times by a team that's not
playing at their best. They were lucky that Jamis Winston
wasn't also wasn't good Jamis ms Winston miss throws that
he should rightly make. You combine that with a kicker

(04:25):
who misses three field goals and missed two the previous week,
and you're kind of lucky. Here's Dirk Cutter, head coach
of Tampay Buccaneers, on those missfield goals. Wasn't what we
need tonight. I mean, you know that one before the
half that was that was a long one, but to win.
But um, you know the other one, the other one
was a forty nine or something. And then the one

(04:46):
the end that hurt. I mean, we that would have
that would have given us a good chance. But you
know it's just one. It's one play and it went
against us. Yeah, it's just look, we're gonna cut Nick Folk.
We just gotta figure out who's gonna replace Nick Folks,
since we already cut Roberto Aguayo, who went to Chicago
and probably missed. Nick Folks also missed two extra points
this year. He's just been bad. The kickers go bad

(05:08):
in a hurry, right to kind of like bananas. Right.
I've told you before I really like shopping, and I
don't know what your technique is for grocery shopping. For bananas.
My technique is you have to scan for bruises, and
he's sort of bruising is bad. And I like them
to be green, not completely green, but have almost like

(05:30):
a greenish hue on the on the seams, I don't
know if it's called the seams whatever, right where the
folds are. Worst case scenario, you eat a banana too soon,
because once you beat banana too late, it's kind of useless. Right.
The only thing you can do is sticking in the
freezer and use it for banana bread and or a
protein shake, because it becomes when the brown that's sugar
becomes like pure sugar, and it's not a great taste.

(05:51):
It's not a good smell. But bananas go bad in
a hurry. You're like one day, you're like, man, I'm
perfect banana. You come home the next day and there's
a couple of splotches a brown and the second you
open it, avocados same way. Avocados are way too expensive
to go as bad as as quickly as they go.
That's how kickers are. They like miss one, You're like, okay,

(06:12):
just missed hicle, No big deal, missed the extra point,
like oh the wind, the hold, Now a sudden, it's
in their head and they just start spraying things. You
don't have confidence in them. They don't have confidence in you.
Everybody's shaking their head, everyone's holding their breath, and you
gotta move on to the next kicker. You gotta go
back to the store, get some new bananas. So um, yeah,

(06:34):
it was bad. Here's Jamis Winston on the fact he
needs to play better. I just gotta execute. The main thing,
how to execute on third downs? Defense playing a great game.
You can't give them the ball back there you go.
I mean they even have first down, they even convert
a third down in the first half, not at all.

(06:58):
Such a missed opportunity by the Tampa by can years.
You get the you get the Patriots before their defense
figures it out. You get the Patriots, and granted they
had some injuries of their own on defense, but you
get him without Rob Gronkowski. You get on your home
field and your quarterback doesn't play well, your kicker can't
make makeup bo kicks. Right now, I want to talk

(07:19):
about Cam Newton. So Cam Newton apologized, or if you've
ever seen Alec Baldwin do his trump on Saturday at Live,
he apologized, he apologized, and he used social media to
do so take a listen to part of it. I
have to careful thought. I understand that my word choice

(07:40):
was extremely the great and and disrespectful. It's a woman,
and to be honest, that was not my attentions. And
if you are a person who took offense to what
I said, I sincerely apologize to you. Yeah, see looking
at your word choice. And if you were offended, listen

(08:06):
last night, I actually last two nights, I said something
to my wife I shouldn't have said. I just had
a gender. What happened was last night. I it's a
bit of a drive to my house, but in rude home.
My wife had my daughters, my mom had my son.

(08:26):
My mom took my son to get a haircut that
worked out like perfectly. My wife sends me a text,
hey can you pick up meat and cook dinner? But
when we get home, um, I haven't had a chance
to set anything out. No problem. I actually, as I
told you before, I like shopping at the grocery store.
So I run in and I grabbed wings because my
kids love wings, like chicken wings uncooked and some chicken thighs.

(08:50):
I like thighs, as you guys well know. I go
home and I start marinating, and I tell my mom, hey,
can you handle the vegetables? Handled the meats? Am I
my grill? The lighter button isn't working on my grill.
So I'm searching, searching, searching, can't find the little handhold.

(09:11):
What are those clicker lighter things called the long with
the long shaft? You know I'm talking about this. It's
like a lighter, right, but it's not like a cigarette lighter, Like,
I'm not like lighting a grill like that. I can't
find it. Called my wife, where is that thing? Oh?
I put it in the bathroom. You left it outside? Sorry,
So it ends up derailing me. It costs me twenty minutes.

(09:32):
Everything wasn't ready when she got home, not that she
was like, I need my food, get at home. Um,
dinner ends up going off without a hitch. Everybody eight.
It was relatively healthy. They chow the chicken wings. I
chowed my chicken thighs. We had some eggplant. We had
some kale I can't remember. We had some noodles as well,

(09:53):
some some some pasta with bread sauce as well. Kids
are happy, bellies are full, homeworks starting to be done.
My son had basketball. She's like, I'll take him. Can
you make sure the girls start their homework? No problem.
My wife comes back in from dropping my son off
at basketball practice, and I'm watching both the football and

(10:16):
the basketball game, a football in the in the baseball
game on the sofa. My mom's cleaning up, doing the dishes.
My girls are doing homework, and the first thing she
said was you're on the couch, which instead of just
like yeah, hey, yeah, I just checked on the girls
and my mom went insisted on doing the dishes. It was, hey,
I gotta what I kind of I was defensive, like, look,

(10:39):
I gotta watch these games for work, but it was
in a tone that was off, and you know, my
mom's there, kids are there. Just my tone was off.
So I told my wife, I don't like my bad that,
you know what, like your I didn't. You didn't have
to ask me why I was on the couch, Like

(10:59):
I'm a grown up. I hadn't stopped moving all day.
I got out of the car, start cooking the blah
blah blah blah blah blah. But it didn't have to
be defensive. My point is that in his effort to apologize,
he qualifies it with my word choice. He qualifies it
with if you were offended by it wasn't his word choice,

(11:19):
it was the whole thing. And as a guy, I
think if you just say, like, hey, I was an
a hole, you know for five minutes there, I was
an a hole, I could go back into my entire
day and all the questions and the practice and what
I ate or my coffee wasn't right. Like, look, I
have a certain way in which I get up at
a certain time and take my dog and for a run,

(11:40):
and then I go get coffee every day, and then
I come home and I make breaks my like, and
when things get out of whack, like sometimes I'm out
of whack, or when it takes instead of taking an
hour to get home, it takes an hour and a
half an hour forty five to get whatever. Like, you
get out of whack and you get a little tighter,
and you get like defensive, and you say something you shouldn't.
If Cam Newton would just say, like, hey, yesterday I

(12:01):
was an a hole. I'm not normally an a hole,
but I was yesterday and I'm sorry. Please accept my apology.
Wouldn't that be better than you know? I really had
some thought and my word choice was bad. And if
you were like, what are you doing? Dude? Just say

(12:25):
I was wrong, I'm sorry, I'll do better, and then
most of us be like okay. But instead now we're like,
still doesn't get it, Still doesn't get it. Rob Rainald
joined the show. I'll ask him if he thinks the
Patriots have fixed their defense or were they just fortunate
that Jamis was missing throws last night? Plus is he

(12:48):
surprised by the Buffalo Bills three and one start? I
know most of the NFL was that most the NFL
thought they were dumping games, dumping players left him right,
that's upcoming next, But first, um, I am right. I
had and bushy tailed. I did a apologize to my wife.
And the reason that I wake up feeling so good
is this mattress I'm sleeping on. It's called a Casper mattress.

(13:09):
Now I had heard it advertised on I think Clay
Travis is show and Clay talked about it. Then I
was like, man, I gotta get one of these things.
And so I got my own and is it's incredible. Um,
it's high quality, made it an affordable price, and of
course it's made here in the USA. And it comes
in this how they do it size box where you
get delivered the boxes cast from the site, like how

(13:30):
they fit a mattress in there. You kint it open
and then you roll it out onto where the bet
on your on your box spring and then all of
a sudden when you kind of open and just kind
of inflates and there it is. It's a it's uh
filled with this incredible foam. Sleeping on a mattress is
the best way to try it. So here's what I
want you to do. Put castor mattress to the test
in your home for a hundred nights risk free. Go

(13:53):
to Casper dot com and use the code gotly that's
g O t t l i EB for fifty dollars
towards the purchase of your next mattress. Casper dot com
used the code gottli. You get fifty bucks off sence
your house. If you don't like it, you don't like it,
they pick it up from your house. That's Casper dot Com.

enjoying more confident car buying experience. Doug Otlive Show, Fox
Sports Radio. Um, this is it feels like the Red

(14:44):
Sox series is already over as they're down four to
one to the Astros. But Springer headed too run home
run was at a solo home. It was too run
home runs four to one Astros. We'll take you to
uh to Dan Buyer in about eight or nine minutes.
But I mean when you get to Chris Sale and
jose A Tube hits three home runs to off Sale

(15:04):
last night, and now you know you start to work
through like the Red Red Sex just don't have the bats.
I just don't have the bats. And you know Dallas
kicks out there number two picture for the Astros. Wow.
And I told you guys before I tweeted out when
the Yankees beat the Twins, like great win but the

(15:27):
Yankees bullpen is wildly overrated because dellin Betances is not
right right now and all this Chapman hasn't been great
all year and more than anything like if if you
think any other nothing, no rotation that the Yankees that
face compares to what the Indians are throwing out. The
Indians third best starter went had a no hitter last
night into what the fifth inning? Yeah, no, the idiot. Uh.

(15:51):
And you know tonight you get the American League say
Young Award winner with C. C. Savatthews washed up, So
he's like those series are over and we're a game
and a half. In speaking of over could have made
the case he was gonna be over for the Patriots
that they lost last night would have been two and three.

(16:14):
And remember they have this crazy stretch of five of
six on the road coming up. Plus they have Atlanta
at home UM in two weeks, the Jets on the
road next week. Jets always give them trouble. And the
Jets are actually kind of decent, and even last night
didn't protect Brady Well, didn't have Rob Gronkowski, and yet
they get really lucky that Tampa doesn't have a field

(16:37):
goal kicker. Otherwise probably lose that game. But now they're
three and two and they get an extra time to
prepare for the Jets looking at four and two, and
they seem to somehow survive, knowing the division will be
soft by the time they get around to playing the division.
Let's welcome in Rob Ryan, who knows the Patriots oh
so well, he joins us on the Doug Gallup Show.

(16:57):
Feels like both they missed opportunity for the Bucks because
Jamis didn't play well, was was so not sharp, especially
on third down, and obviously the field goal kicker, and
that the Buccaneers let the Patriots off the hook? Is
that Is that a fair way to look at it? Well,
I mean I think you know, anytime you go over
on third down, which was most of the game, uh,

(17:19):
you know, it's not gonna go well for you. And
and uh they just kept playing the same coverage over
and over and and uh whether the receiver would drop
at the number eighty four the tight end, Uh boy,
he was having a hard day for Tampa. And then uh,
then he had some then Winson had some misthrows. But uh,
you know, I think Tampa did what they could to
stay in the game. I mean, Unfortunately kicker kept missing chicks,

(17:42):
but uh their defense was was doing an amazing job
holding them out in the red zone because you know
that's uh awfully hard place to stop New England's offense.
But you know, I think obviously when you when you
don't have Gronkowski, Uh the other tight end hasn't done
anything for him all year, so uh you know, that
takes a big chunk out of it. But um, you

(18:03):
know I thought, uh the other receivers stepped up pretty good.
Uh Amadola, Uh you know, did a good job. He
was catching a ton of passes, as was White. Uh
you know, so you know, I think it's a typical
uh New England win, except the defensive player that number
ninety one, the wise kid. He's not very wise because

(18:25):
I don't think I've ever seen a Patriot place. Uh
such a really a dumb game. I mean, the guy
is a penalty on third and twenty two, and then
he gives him another penalty to get him in field
goal range right for the half. Well, I mean I've
never how do you how do you explain? Like? And
I understand coaches can only control so much, right and

(18:46):
like I always thought you and your brother, you get
a you get a bad rap, like just because, uh,
you know, just because you guys are a little bit
looser during the week than other people doesn't mean you
encourage guys to commit penalties. And the previous example is
like Tom Coughlin was like known as a disciplinarian, right
and his team led the NFL Inteldys the last couple

(19:06):
of years he was in New York's like, wait, if
he's just there's not necessarily a correlation there, But like
for a Bill Belichick coach team, go ahead, yeah, well,
four of my last five years as a defensive coordinator,
we were the least penalized defense. But it doesn't look
that way. I get it for the perception of uh,
you know, against the reality of it that. But the

(19:26):
thing with Belichick is, look, no one makes more of
an emphasis on playing smart football than Belichick. I was
in there. I know that there's a point of emphasis
on everything. And when you get a hands to the
face of guy's six ft nine and you take him
back to the coreterback on third and twenty two, I
mean that's just inexcusable. And then bumping into the quarterback, uh,

(19:48):
you know, on the last play of the half, just
absolutely ridiculous penalties. I'll be shocked if that kids go
on on the team next week. Um, they've they've had
trouble with Stefan more in terms of figuring out where
he's supposed to be, what he's supposed to be doing.
How how fixable is that now they have this extra time.
It's not a bye week, but it's like a half

(20:09):
bye week. Are I know they can't likely generate a
pass rush unless they add some personnel, but can they
fix some of the miscommunication that defensive backfield? I think
I think they definitely have to and I think they will.
I think, um, uh, you notice their their plan was
really simple. They were playing a lot of three buzz
on first and second down and then just two man

(20:32):
on third down. So it's kind of a simple plan.
But with Steph, look, he's an extremely talented kid. He's
used to play in man coverage. That's what I noticed
when I went to Buffalo. Unlike other places, it was
it was really difficult to get uh you know, things changed,
things communicated, things checked, not not just with step who

(20:55):
also with Darby, a kid who came from man coverage
in Florida State, unlike any other place that had been. Now,
we finished six in the league in past defense. But
I'm telling you it'll take some time. Steph's a great kid.
He'll work hard, He'll he'll try to understand. And I think, uh,
Belichick's son, they're coaching. The secondary's got to really take
extra time and and uh and be with the young guy,

(21:16):
because he'll be there. He'll he'll show up. He wants,
he wants to do better, and he is an exceptional talent.
Rob Bryan joining us in the Doug Otlup Show here
on You're on the Fox Boards radio. Uh, what's your
reaction to Buffalo who? I think so many people thought, well,
they're they're they're playing for next year. Uh, he got
rid of he got rid of. Uh, you got rid

(21:36):
of some guys before the season began, made some kind
of curious trades, and here they are off to a
three and one start. I was wondering what your reaction is. No,
I think they're doing a great job. I think, um, look,
they went and cleaned house, they cleaned the coaching staff out.
Uh you know you know which, Hey, you know it'll
all come out and the work whether as a good

(21:57):
decision or not. I don't tell you it was, but
that's the way it is. But the front office, uh,
the personnel department and all that was the worst side
seen in football, so uh, you know that had to go.
And they they've got a guy in there that that's
working side by side with the coach. They're making decisions
what they think is the best of the team. The
teams responding. They're playing really well and good for them.

(22:20):
I mean, you know they uh they the last regime
wasn't committed, you know, committed to Tyron Taylor as much
as the coaching staff was, and now looks like this
group is giving him a chance to be the guy
and he's doing a great job. So uh, you know,
it's you know, it's not surprising. I think they had
a couple of huge wins that are surprising, but hey,

(22:41):
they're playing motivated and they're behind the coach. Um, okay,
they take on the Bengals, who you know, they changed
offensive coordinators and Bill Laser has gone to a lot
of quick game and they're getting getting to the ball
really quickly, getting out to guys, getting getting out to
their athletes in space. Does that does that work long term?
Or is that just a people haven't seen enough, haven't

(23:03):
been able to adjust enough, and the league, more specifically,
teams like the Bills have seen it two weeks in
a row, can't adjust with time to prepare well. I think, uh,
you know A J. Green is one of the best
receivers in football, and they never used them at all
in the first two weeks of the season, which was
kind of alarming. So now they finally realize, hey, let's

(23:24):
get the ball to him and maybe some good things
will happen. And uh, and look, Dalton was playing so
poorly early, but I think there was a major disconnect
there with with how the offense was going in Dalton.
But I think he's playing uh right now with you know,
like the old Andrew Dalton. You know, it's uh, he'll
take what you've give them. If there's a guy open,

(23:45):
he'll get it to him. If it's tight coverage, he's
gonna struggle. But uh, you know, this is a team
that last year the Bills went into Cincinnati and beat
uh in a in a pretty close game. But I
think it'll be a good game. I think uh, I
think they had to make a change there and Cincin
I had to spark detainment, and I think it's worked.

(24:06):
Rob Ryan joining us in the Doug Gotlic Show, two
times Super Bowl champion coach, and he joins us here
on Fox Sports Radio. UM, I'm intrigued by what the
Texans are doing. A lot of what they're doing is
bringing the strength of Deshaun Watson. Some r p o
s run pass options from the college game to the
pro game and look in the red zone. We see
that some with Aaron Rodgers, We've seen it with other quarterbacks,

(24:28):
but really it is more of a college kind of
spread field, and we've seen this from young quarterbacks in
the past. The problem is that they get hit too often,
and and they get hit, they get hurt. Is what
the Texans are doing sustainable? Well? I think the number
one thing is they drafted the right quarterback. I mean,
that's the Shawn Watson. I had a chance to see him.

(24:49):
My son played at Clemson so uh for last season
and I got to see him play about every week.
And he's such a leader, he's such a strong personality,
a great kid. And Uh, I think that they're utilizing
them really well. I think he's doing a lot of
things on his own. When when the Remember this is
a team that got sacked ten times opening day and

(25:11):
he gets back there. Sometimes it doesn't look like it's
improved any but that quarterback shore has and he's making
plays against the Titans up the middle, scrambling with Jorelle
cases of Pro Bowl d tackle and they're most people
are scared to go up in there. I mean, uh,
he's got great courage. He's doing a great job. Uh.
You know, you know in this league, Doug, I mean,
shoot you, you can't last forever getting your quarterback hit.

(25:33):
So uh uh you know, they gotta they gotta dress
the left tackle and uh situation there as well. But
I do like what they're doing. I think I love
the way that Sean's getting the ball of the outside
receivers and uh and that's a big thing. They haven't
been able to do that for for years now. Um,
really quickly, Cowboys welcome in the Packers who haven't been

(25:54):
healthy but are getting getting healthy er Um and uh,
but look at the Cowboys have done a good job
of getting after the quarterback, and the package have done
a poor job of protecting the quarterback. What are your
thoughts are in the Packers? Once again, going back into
Dallas third time in two years. They were one in
one last year, one in the playoffs, lost in a
regular season. Well, I think, you know, with MacArthur, he

(26:17):
does a fantastic job developing a plan for each opponent.
I know he's got the West Coast principles, but uh,
you know, when he lost both tackles and had to
play a quick game without either one of all of
a sudden, you know, and they're playing a really good
pass rush them, all of a sudden, He's getting the
ball out, never got hit. So I think that's critical.
I think with Lawrence is rushing the pastor as well

(26:39):
as he is. And then they get the big Irving
kid back. Yeah, David Irving come back from suspension. Right,
They're they're gonna have to do, uh to do a
lot of the same. And no one throws those slants,
you know, better than Aaron Rodgers does. I think that's
got to be a big part of it. And then uh,
you know when he does, when he does break contain,
that's a major problem for for the defense and and

(27:01):
the secondary for Dallas has been very uh susceptible to
the big play and uh, you know, so I think
it's gonna be a high scoring game because Dallas's offense
should be ready to go. I don't know why. Uh
they didn't run Elliott much last in the second half
of that last game. The shoot they had two on
eight yards a halftime, but uh, you know, they kind

(27:23):
of change way. He did a good job, but they
they didn't give the ball near enough to the running back.
I don't think so it'll be it'll be a great game.
But I'm sure Lena Hand will have a great plan
for the Packer defense as well. Rob. It's great to
have you on. That's just an incredibly valuable resource to
have you on. Rob Ryan. You can hear him on
Fox Sports radiol on our buddy Mark Willard at one

(27:43):
o'clock reacting to all the NFL games. So like if
you you're watching the game popping the car, put on
Fox Sports Radio and you hear the actual insight to
why everything's happening from Rob Ryan. Of course, has so
much history in the National Football League. Rob appreciate being
our guest. Can't wait to hear in the radio this weekend.
All right, thank to appreciate. Pleasure is mine, Rob Ryan
joining us on the Doug Gottlieb show. Uh playoffs playing

(28:07):
out exactly as I told you they would, and I'm
not talking about the wins and losses. And speaking of
the playoffs, let's get a score update. We're gonna get
a David Price sighting in a matter of seconds. That's
because the Boston Red Sox are making a pitching change
in the bottom of the third inning in their Game
two against the Astros. Price could have come in for

(28:27):
Drew Pomerantz because the Astros are up for one. Carlos
Corea a two run home run, George Springer a solo
shot for the Astros, and then jose L Tube had
an RBI single to extend the lead for one. In
Game two, Astros already up one oh in the best
of five series. Indians are up one game tonight on
the Yankees. They'll play at five Eastern time this afternoon.

(28:47):
CC Sabathia goes for New York against Corey Kluber. The
Indians in the National League Divisional Series get underway tonight.
Nationals and Cubs seven thirty Eastern time. Diamondbacks and Dodgers
go at ten thirty Eastern. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariotta a
game time decision for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins because
of a hamstring On Monday, the Vikings have the Bears,
and the Vikings are gonna have Sam Bradford practice for

(29:09):
the second straight day as the quarterback tries to return
from a knee injury that cost him the last three games.
And Doug More on the Josh Norman injury, remember it
was a broken ribbon an injury to longlining. Yesterday, well,
Norman tweets out that he's gonna miss four weeks of
action for the Redskins because of that injury. So that's
gonna hurt Washington for the next month or so, but

(29:29):
probably not as much as it hurts Josh Norman because
it sounds so painful. Jose, I'll two a third base
to get yea bassis Jack, David Bryce, Hey, Hey Dave Price,
you are ready to pitch? Yeah? Sure, Why don't you
come in with uh? Is that one out? Yes? One out,
one out in the bottom of the third inning with

(29:50):
the bases loaded, no pressure. Now, he has pitched in
the in high leverage situations out of the pen, going
back to his rookie year when he came out of
Vanderbilt and was pitching for the Raise in the playoffs
and went to the World Series that year. But boy,
that is zero to a hundred for David Price first
pitch of ball. We'll see if he can work himself
out of a jam. But it kind of amazing. So look,

(30:13):
here's one of the things I told you, well, I
don't Angel Hernandez is a strike zone to which I
don't think anybody else really follows in baseball. He's the
He's the Lane Kiffing of Major League basically, like, how
does he keep getting these jobs? I don't really get it.
I don't. I don't, I don't get it. Don't get it.
Um anyway, And and baseball players are ruthless on Twitter

(30:38):
because they don't like him either. Obviously, just a cheery fella,
but um, these games are ridiculously long. And I'm not saying. Look,
let's just I'll state the record to be very very clear.
I know baseball guy got super mad at me when
I said what I said about Adrian Beltre. I stand

(31:00):
by my wondering. I don't think it's crazy at all
to wonder into speculate. I just don't. And I know
Beltrey got hurt at the end of the year, and
so we'll never know if his production would have dropped
off whatever. Um. But the other things I told you
about baseball is baseball has more great, not good, great

(31:23):
young talent then they've had. You go back kind of
ten years ago, great young talent, and a lot of
it on the Astros. The Astros are kind of like
they're kind of like the Bengals, you know, where they
drafted well forever and then they went out this time
and added a Verlander because they knew they were ready.

(31:44):
You go back two years ago in the playoffs, last
year disappointing year. This year, I mean, all these young
guys all come through and al Tube has just been ridiculous.
I saw an article today about how he struggled against
the breaking ball going back to last year, and that
was his focus. He led the league in and batting
average on bass against the breaking ball anyway. Um, So,

(32:08):
even though baseball is more talented than it's been, you've
got more guys throwing plus than they've ever had, and
you have more home runs that have ever been hit.
In the actual game play, it's longer and more boring
and harder to watch than it used to be. And
You're like, how is that possible if they're hitting more
home runs because they're walking more and they're striking out more.

(32:29):
So there's these huge loves. Plus the at bats are
lasting a lot longer, I mean a lot longer, and uh,
we just don't have four hours for a game. Like
I think it hurts college football that the games are

(32:50):
going too long, But college football, the changes are easier. Right.
In college football, you just change how often you stop
the clock. Right, It's one of the things that happens
in the NFL is that the clock runs, so there's
just there's a finite amount of time, whereas baseball people say, well,
the beauty to baseball is there's no finite amount of time.

(33:12):
Like that sounds great in theory. In practice, I just
don't have four hours to invest when I'll see a
home run once every couple of innings, a bunch of
walks and a bunch of strikeouts. It's just not that interesting.
And lo and behold, people not tell how do you
fix it? There's only one way to fix it in baseball,

(33:33):
and there's actually two. One is to move the fences back.
They moved to a lot of fences in throughout baseball
to generate more offense. It's actually had the op it's
had the intent effect terms of home runs, but runs
being scored is about the same. Slightly up move the
fences back to where they should be, which guys can't
be swinging for the fences nearly as much. Those will

(33:55):
be doubles instead of home runs. There'll be more rallies.
The second thing is that I've been a big proponent
of this. Tell me another sport where a guy gets
to come onto the field of play and take some
warm up snaps or take some warm up shots. They don't.
You have a bullpen back there. You have a place
to warm up pitching. If I make a pitching change
your running, you pick up the ball and you start pitching.

(34:22):
But I told you baseball is gonna be long and boring,
and you're like, baseball already is long and boring. God,
they like, No, it's longer and more boring than it
used to be because of how analytics have told these
guys stop swingings for singles on O two pitch, don't
try and punch one, Okay, you don't try and just
put the bat on the ball and put it in play.
Swinging for the fences. Well, the Raiders have their Pro

(34:45):
Bowl quarterbacks Sunday against the Ravens. I'll tell you of
coming next. With True Car, you can find out what
other people in your area paid for the same car
you're looking for new or used. Visit True Car to
enjoy more confident car buying experience. So David Price did,
in fact get out of it. Dallas guy called Mosu

(35:08):
down and the Astros continue lead four to one. I like,
I like what I do, like I enjoyed doing this.
I've done this for a long time, if you guys know.
So when I first started Nashville Radio, it was a
nighttime over to ESPN Radio. It was seven to one AM,
and the first fall was two thousand three. Two thousand

(35:29):
three was the Grady Little where he didn't take out
Pagro and put Patro Martinez back in the game. And
we were on radio at the time, and so we
were the rights holder. But any market that couldn't carry
the game anyway, meaning again named Chuck Wilson and so like.
It's kind of a little bit of a throwback to
me that even though it's the middle of the day

(35:51):
here in southern California, you're watching playoff baseball be played.
I don't know if there's a fix for baseball in that.
Really got two day games here before we get to
the night for playoff baseball. It just seems problematic and
getting most of the country to pay attention to your games.
I guess the only fix would be like play him
on Saturdays, um or play him all at night. But

(36:19):
I do think this hurts the sport of that, Like
we're this is not like the n c A terminal
where you can go. It's not a national holiday. People
like ah, I just take it off, you know. The
You're gonna wake up and the Red Sox are down
two games to none in this series and most of
America won't have you even watched the first two games
because of the time in which the game started. And

(36:39):
that's the Red Sox and Red Sox are probably the
second most nationally the second most popular team or second
most watched team, first being the Yankees, third being the Cups.
Let's get to a games. This is game time, Tid

(37:00):
the Doug gott leave show day what he got for
me today? Doug, we have got alright, and I'm even
looking ahead and I can see some baseball in our future.
But let's start out on the gridiron. Okay, the Buccaneers
are gonna have tryouts for kickers this weekend after Nick
Folk missed three last night against the New England Patriots,
so psychic, Well, the Buccaneers actually make a change at

(37:23):
the position, no question, no question that you just you
can't keep telling him out there. You know he hasn't
been good. He's miss five field goals the last two weeks.
He's missed two extra points as well. I don't think
there's any question you're gonna make a change a kicker.
What do you do this weekend? If you're Nick Folk?
Then do you start to pack? Do you look for
other options? I mean, I think you just keep showing

(37:43):
the facility, and like when they have kicking tryouts, maybe
you go like I show you like kicking tryout. Yeah,
you know, like I know you're trying to find guys
to replace me, but I'll show you that in a
tryout like try out for him, I'm just as good.
Just I've had had some run of bad luck here
and I just take all the change in left pocket,
but in your right pocket. This is so the equivalent

(38:04):
of Hey, Nick, why don't you come to my office
Monday morning at eight am. And and as he leaves
the door on Friday or leaves the office like Stu
on this the entire weekend, we're gonna We're gonna talk
to you on Monday. That's what this feeling is. That's
what the trial expect. It's not like, right, he's a
grown up, he's a big boy. Oh sure, But going
back and forth, he's saying, Okay, what do I do?

(38:24):
How do I do this? Anyway? Raiders may actually have
a decision on their hands. Quarterback Derek Carr took second
team reps under center today, still dealing with the back
issue suffered at last week's lost to Denver, but the
Raiders are listening, listing him as questionable for their game
against the Ravens on Sunday. So psychic, who actually starts
at quarterback for Oakland against Baltimore? Derek Carr or EJ. Manuel?

(38:47):
I think Derek Carr starts. It's a it's a fracture
of the transverse process, which is a it's a broken back.
But like if you this is the same injury Tony
Romo had, right, m hm um, what what I When
I was told by a doctor, or maybe his name
was first name was doctor. Maybe he stayed a holiday
express was. Uh. It depends on where the fracture is,

(39:09):
how bad the fracture is. But you can't actually hurt
yourself any worse. It's not like it's not like there's
a uh it's gonna fray off and gonna hit your
spinal cord, you know, or it's not like it's gonna
break even worse. It's just a slight, a very slight
fracture of not technically it's your back, technically it's a vertebrae.

(39:30):
But it's like the transfers process is that like you
ever seen a skeleton in a doctor's office. It's like
the kind of little side piece that's kind of weird curvature.
That's what it is. So I think you'll actually play
with this thing. The comparisons to Tony Romo go a
lot more than just the injuries, because it's injuries. We
had good offensive lines. The Raiders have one of the
best in the NFL. But yet Derek Carr getting banged

(39:54):
up behind one of the best lines of the National
Football League. All right, let's stuck a baseball. The Astros
leading the Red side right now four to one. Indians
f Corey Kluber going up against C. C. Sabathia of
the Yankees this afternoon, so psychic. Well, either of the
A l DS matchups be even at a game of
piece at the end of the day. No, So Strows
go up to oh and Indians go up to oh.

(40:15):
Simple enough? What about what about tonight? Clayton Kershaw takes
them out for the Dodgers and their Game one against
the Diamondbacks. Psychic after coming through in a couple of
big games last year of the postseason. Will we see
the old postseason version of Clayton Kershaw tonight or the
new one that made an appearance last season. I think
we'll see the same one, because what what people forget
about him? He actually had a start against the Mets

(40:38):
a couple of years ago on short rest where he
was backs against the wall where he was great um
and even when he blew up against the Cardinals, it
was in the seventh inning was pitch count got high.
I think he'll be very very good through six and
I think it would be all about pitch count if
in terms of it does he go the seventh. But
I think he'll be dynamic tonight they and they benefit
from the fact that he did get hurt midyear. He's

(41:00):
not pitching with a dead arm. Final one. After last
week's two one victory for the Blue Crew, the John
Ramos Coach Girls soccer team takes the pitch tomorrow at
two o'clock specific time. Psychic Well, the John Ramos Coach
girls soccer team make it two wins in a row.
I'm feeling a second win. One reason. I was told
that the girls tied up Coach Ramos so that he

(41:20):
could not make any adjustments, and that's why they felt
like they won last week. This is game time on
the Duck Godli Show. Buddy of mine, J. J Mack
text me you know how he fixed baseball? As you
put Royd's back in baseball now Full disclosure. J Mack
is a former Royd's abuser himself. Um so he he

(41:43):
believes in the stuff. The point is like, it's it's
not that there's home runs missing in baseball, it's everything
else is missing in baseball. Everything else is missing in baseball.
We get distracted by big numbers in sports. I'll give
you a case in point and why there will be
no repeat Heisman Trophy Winner, next Boom, What Up America?

(42:06):
Doug Gottlib show Box Sports Radio. M hey am I
um am. I supposed to be in this Jeremy Lynn story.
Of all the stories that I have come upon, I

(42:26):
gotta tell you, this is the dumbest one. You get
familiar with this story at all. Uh. Jeremy Lynn apparently
has dreadlocks and Kenyan Martin called him out. You really
glent and got that. Huh you'd not not messing around.
Um No, that's that's that's amazing what you just did.
Rye Music. There's a lot of stuff we have going

(42:49):
on here. I'll get back to this Jeremy Lynn story
and then I want to crush Louisville football and Lamar
Jackson in a second. But I have I brought in
lunch today from a really good place and it's Mediterranean style,

(43:10):
got kebabs, and I just got a big vat of
jumas ums not hummas. Don't do the hummas jumas when
it's the real stuff. It's almost you're like at the julmos.
I like the jumos. So music is like he looked
at it and there's slobber coming from his face, like look, dude,
we can. And this actually is where breaking bread comes from,
like we should break bread sometimes it comes from you know,

(43:32):
ancient times to which you would actually break off piece
of your bread. It was a sign of friendship. Things
you learn only in the dug out lip show. Right anyway,
So I was kind of half kidding because there's a
couple of PETA's in here, and I could have broken
him off of Peter, but I didn't see how many
there were. I was like, you need to go over.
There's a whole Foods right around the corner. I believe

(43:53):
it was fifty dollars for what costs five dollars elsewhere.
You should go get some Lafa bread. Lafa is the
breast for best for bread, the best for breaking bread.
And he walks in with like a It almost feels
like he went to Costco to get a big that's
a big, thick amount of lava bread. We're gonna break
bread here during one of the breaks. Have you guys

(44:13):
heard the story about Jeremy Lynn. So Jeremy Lynn has dreadlocks.
Kenyan Martin took offense to him having dreadlocks because Jeremy lynns.
I'm not sure if you either were is not black.
I did not, And and Jeremy Lynn had this fascinating
piece that he wrote and spent a ton of time
on in The Player's Tribune about his hair and about

(44:35):
how the fact that he's actually sensitive to the cultural
appropriation of his hat of his hair. Are you guys
familiar with cultural appropriation with your hair? Like? I did
not know that. I mean, I guess I knew, but
I didn't no. It was now we're getting offended over

(44:57):
Asian dudes having dread bocks. I also did not know
it was such a thing. It was such a it
took so long to get dreadlocks. But it's just like
a process of it. Your hair gets dreaded. What I
was told, there's like a substance that's put you. I know,
you don't wash it, but you put some stuff in there.
And I don't think it smells particularly good, right, but

(45:19):
like oils in it. Right. Um, But I've seen other
white guys with dreadlocks before and they didn't have to apologize.
Why is Kenyan Martin want Jimmy Lynn to apologize? That
is one of the biggest non story stories I've ever heard. Right,
So does the guy with the Jiufro have to apologize

(45:41):
for having an afro even though he's really a white guy.
My son got a line in his head yesterday. He
likes this. He likes that look. A lot of the
baseball players have tight fade, keeps it pretty long up top.
But then for the part he gets a line put
in there. I mean the line was technically that's usually
that started in the black community, but also per Rican

(46:02):
guys have it. Hispanic guys have Latino guys have like
does he is that not culturally appropriate? I don't, I don't.
My My my deal is this. I told my wife
this aside from mohawks and the mullet, and I won't
let him grow his hair long, like look, you wants
to try a bunch of hairstyles. Her dad's bald. You know,

(46:22):
my hair is not perfect. You know what, if you
want to have a funky hairstyle while you have great hair,
go for it, big boy. It grows back, you know.
I'd cut mine super short. I'd shave mine if I could.
I just I'm not really comfortable with some spots that
might be showing and the fact that it might not
grow back. Like dude, I do the line in my

(46:46):
head right now. I do my line. If I had
my old hairline like I had when I was a kid,
I would do the line. I had to be just
like my kids. I had the same haircut. Be cool.
I can't do it. But I don't know if it's
culturally appropriate. I definitely don't think we should be talking
about it. You want talk about a nonsensical discussion, All right,
here's one. Can we stop with the Lamar Jackson thing?

(47:08):
Like Bill Pollian came out about a month ago and
said he thinks would be a wide receiver in college,
and plenty of college guys are like, oh, Bill, Polly,
what are you talking about? Like, Okay, Bill Polling was
the GM of the Bills that went to four Street
Troops and the Colts that had Peyton Manning. Like he
kind of knows a little bit about what it takes
into making the National Football League and what happened last year.

(47:33):
I was not fooled by, but most of America was.
He put up crazy numbers against Charlotte six touchdowns, no
interceptions and Marshall five touchdowns, one interception, and I know,
and Marshall guy stopped with the oh Marshall, We've won
nine games. Basically, Marshall is was one of the all

(47:55):
time great one double A programs and when everybody expanded
to go Division one I, technically their Division one technically,
but they're not really of the you know there're They
play in the Sun Belt, which is basically a one
double A league. They play most of the same opponents.
The only difference is who they can play in the preseason.

(48:17):
And Marshall is still awesome at their level, but that's
not an A C C level, that's not an sec
A Big ten level. Charlotte just started football last year.
Everyone was fooled by the U six touchdowns, no interceptions, passing,
two touchdowns rushing against Charlotte. That's eight of his touchdowns.

(48:38):
He had seven touchdowns against Marshall. That's fifteen touchdowns combined
in two games. Yes, they dominated Florida State at home
and he had four rushing touchdowns, but he threw for
just he threw for two sixteen and at the end
of the year when they fell apart when they played
legit competition, he wasn't good. He wasn't accurate. Against Clemson,

(49:01):
he had one touchdown one in reception, did rush for
two touchdowns, brought them back and to come back late.
They were down the entire game against Houston a loss,
one touchdown, completed of his passes against Kentucky two touchdowns,
three interceptions. Anytime they've played somebody who's legitimate in one
of the big conferences in the in the Lamar Jackson era,

(49:24):
they haven't been great. And it's not to say that
he's not a great story. It's not to say that
he's not fun to watch, but we just didn't with
a keen eye truly pay attention. We got caught up
in the numbers, the numbers, the numbers, the numbers, and
we didn't look at the actual substance. When now we
watched the substance, were like, hey, you know, it's not
like that. Great. He is more of a wide receiver

(49:47):
who plays quarterback. And this is one of those deals
to where people are like, well, he has a YouTube
video where he through eight yards in the air. Great,
I don't care how far you can like Jamis Winston.
Did you guys see the the play where he was
hit late at the end of the first half And
if you watch last night on Thursday Night Football, Jameis

(50:08):
Winston drops back to pass he's at about his own
forty five yard line and he's throwing a hail mary
at the end of the game, at the end of
the half. He got hit late and because of it,
the Tampa Buccaneers got a chance to kick a fifty
six yard field goal. Shocker here, Nick Folk pushed it right.
But what jumped out to me was, here's one of
the top young quarterbacks in the NFL. He had time

(50:31):
to throw it, time to plant, and he couldn't get
the ball to the end zone. Matter of fact, end
of the game, same thing happened. Couldn't get it deep
into the end zone. Like you would think that at
the peak of your powers is when you're in your
mid twenties. That's when you have your strongest arm as
a quarterback. That hail mary time you can throw its

(50:53):
seventy five yards on a line. But the fact is
a lot of these guys they don't have the overall
it doesn't actually take that sort of arm strength to
play in the NFL. Does it help, sure, But the
idea that Lamar Jackson can run fast, can throw it
far makes him an NFL quarterback. I give you last
night as case in point, when yeah, he compiled a

(51:17):
bunch of numbers three fifty four, had a touchdown, ran
for two. But he's not accurate, and they're just not good.
I hate to be that guy, but there's there. They're
playing at a level of football below that of big
boy football. Like that's the truth about most of the
A C. C. And he's a freak show athletically, and

(51:40):
he can throw it and occasionally hits guys deep and
he played they play as style and they get the
ball back a ton because they're deeper than not particularly
good either, but that's just what it is. It's just
like a lower level of football. Yes, music. So what
about what Bill Pollian said, Do you think that he
will eventually be used as a quarterback in the NFL
or do you think that's hie will take him based

(52:01):
solely off his athleticism and try and turn him into
something different. Well, I mean we've seen this, you know.
Cordell Steward slash right, Um, what was oh man? He
played for Indiana and then he played Steelers. He threw
a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl for the Steelers.
Antoine Randol right right. Antoine Randell was a great college quarterback,

(52:22):
or really good college quarterback. In Indiana, Like, no reason
he can't be that guy and he could also be
your backup quarterback too, Right, there's the guy that can
bring you a tremendous amount of value. Could play Look
like why can't he play in wildcat? Why can't he
play backup quarterback? But to be a starting quarterback in
the NFL, like when you're below six ft is hard enough.

(52:42):
When you're better out of the pocket than you are
in the pocket, when you're not accurate, like he has
all of these things going against him, it's just not
likely to happen. So, um, do I think somebody will
convert him? Yeah? Yeah, I mean, um, what's the man
is name? Who was that Ohio State who is now
in the NFL as a wide receiver Braxton Miller right?

(53:06):
Or Julian Edelman was a quarterback? I mean obviously not
as prestigious a quarterback. Uh Terrell prior Tarrell prior to
winless teams in the NFL go head to head on Sunday.
Who has more to lose? I'll tell you of coming

(53:26):
next at Farmers. We know a thing or two because
we've seen a thing or two like how to help
so you can make sure you're ready for some of
life's unexpected hazards. Stay ahead of the game with tips
from a knowledgeable pro at Farmers dot Com are When

(53:50):
I was in high school, UM, my high school program
actually for a period of time after I finished, it
was very It had more players in the NFL than
any other high school. I went to tust And High School.
It's in southern California, produced Mark Gray, Shawn Green baseball
um and in football, Frosty Rucker, Deshaun Foster, um, Sam Baker.

(54:17):
All tut And High School anyway, during my senior year
was it was a bit of a down era and
uh the lure of tust And High school football. A
matter of fact, I don't think they won a game
my senior year, not a game, and it was like
like they played a survey which is Steve Berline went

(54:37):
there long for me, but survives a traditional power Catholic school.
All boys school was in was in our league. Somebody,
some idiots scheduled them on like homecoming. It's like fifty
five to ten on homecoming. Uh, needle to say tust
And High School did not have fifty five anyway. UM,
at some point in the season, I think they played

(54:58):
at high School Westminster and Westminster, which uh public school
West Spinster is little Vietnam is in Garden Grove part
of Westminster, huge heavy, heavy Asian population. Needs to say
they're not pumping out great high school football talent yearly.

(55:19):
And both teams were winless and we decided to call
it the toilet Bowl, as we decided to call it,
like I had a toilet bowl, right. I need to say,
I don't think the football players were all that fund
to the fact that we put toilet seats over our
heads and said we were toilet Bowl champions if we
won the game. I actually think that was our lone
win of the season, so called in the toilet Bowl.

(55:40):
Thought it was pretty funny. There's a toilet Bowl going
on this year. This is a weekend in the National
Football League. And I'm intrigued by the Seahawks Rams game.
I pixeld be later on in the show. Uh Seahawks
Rams screams to me, screams to me. One side Bengals

(56:00):
Bills is interesting because Bengals seem like they've got their
stuff together, but the Bills record wise, do have their
stuff together. And when I say toilet Bowl, you would
have thought coming into the year be Jets Browns. If
the Browns don't win, where is the Browns win gonna
come from? Might be Tennessee in a couple points, But

(56:23):
the toilet bol right now is Chargers versus Giants. Both
teams have combined to lose all eight of their games
that they've played. The game is being played in New York,
and I guess that the interesting kind of hook is
um interesting hook is who's worse off if they lose? Right? Like? Look,

(56:47):
I've lived in New York the past three years, and
and one thing that the Giants have going for him
is the fact that the Yankees are still planning. Because
it's a eons town to Yankees towns and Knicks towns
of Rangers town. There are other teams in all of those, right,
But the Jets are a secondary team to the Giants.

(57:08):
The Mets are secondary team to the Yankees, the Islanders
a secondary team to the to the Rangers, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Right, so,
and the Nets are a secondary team to the Knicks.
And so the Yankees playing and still being in the
playoffs at least takes some of the attention away from

(57:29):
the disaster that has been the Giants season. But if
they lose, it's one thing to start out OH five,
it's a whole other thing to lose to an OH
and four team and b O and five. Combine that
with uh some of the antics of Odell Beckham, Odell
Beckham's desire to be the highest paid player in the NFL,

(57:49):
Ben mcadoo's at times mismanagement of his own perception within
the media. You've got Eli Manning, who has always been
a little brother of the payment, like the whole thing
just stinks to die. On the other hand, you have
the Chargers, who if the Chargers lose this game, and
keep in mind Chargers, if they could have gotten a
stop last week against the Eagles, could have won that game.

(58:12):
Had a game tying field goal that they made, only
to have it wiped off because the Broncos called time out,
then had it blocked on the second chance, then missed
a couple of field goals late to beat the Dolphins.
So they were even the Chiefs game they lost to ten,
the winnable football game. Their defense played good enough to win,
their quarterback didn't, so they're owing four. But if they lose,

(58:37):
then they go to take on the Raiders. Next, return
home for the Broncos, then go to New England take
on the Patriots. Oh my goodness, like do you're staring
ohen seven and they can't even fill up their stadium
and it's like a twenty seven thousand seat bandbox, Like
I don't know who needs it worse. By the way,

(59:03):
the Giants have the Broncos next on the road. If
they go to oh and five, they're staring at Owen sick,
They're not. That team is not You can't protect Eli
Manning on on solid ground. You won't be able to
protect Eli Manning against Denver Broncos in the road. Then
they return home to the Seahawks. I guess you could
say winnable, then the Rams, but I mean the idea

(59:28):
of oh and five looking at oh and six before
they return on and to home to take home the
Seahawks in New York City and the Yankees will be
eliminated from the playoffs. You yeah, they won't make that
big a deal of it. And and look there's there's
give and take with New York. Like I'm not sure
Michael Strahan's a Hall of Famer if he doesn't play

(59:50):
in New York, justin Houston had the same number of sacks,
right or half a sack last or whatever a couple
of years ago. Are people talking about him being a
Hall of aim er? No, um, and Brent Farr fell
down on that last stack, played dead for him, So like, look,
he's helped out by the fact that they want a
Super Bowl. Tell about the fact that he was a

(01:00:11):
really good leader. But his post post playing career career
helps him. And that post playing career was helped by
the fact that he played in New York. Like, there's
a lot of good to play in New York. When
it goes bad? What was this molding? Dumpster fire up? Pooh,
yes music. What are the chances these teams behind go

(01:00:34):
in and talk to talk to one another and there, yeah, look,
we both can't afford this bad this bad move. Let's
just we all cut our losses and call it a day.
Yeah no, no, no, but seriously, I mean, the other
interesting thing about this is the situation that both of
those quarterbacks are in well, I know, the same class

(01:00:56):
I both drafted. One was drafted by the Chargers, didn't
want to play for the Charge. Is there's that that
angle to it? Obviously a completely different organization, although same
ownership group in charge, So that that is interesting. But
how you had mentioned earlier this week, how you know
the Chargers need to be now thinking about taking either
Darnel there Rosen especially a quarterback to start building for
the future. And at this point, the way it's been

(01:01:18):
going in the past couple of seasons, so it's almost
the same way for the Giants and Eli, and I
know that they're dealing with this whole Odell thing, but
the way Eli has been playing, I don't think that
he's got much left in him as well. No, I
mean that that whole I mean, like, look that whole class,
Ben Roethlisberger and and you know, it's it's interesting that
we look at what happens. What happens with outliers is

(01:01:42):
we try and pretend like outliers are going to be
the norm, and they're just not. Like one running back
performs well in his thirties and we're like, oh, running
backs and thirties are great. Like like Frank Gore has
toured both the c l s. There's no reason for
his career to be as long and as successful as
it is. But he's the acception and not the rule.
Tom Brady playing this well late in his career is

(01:02:03):
the exception, not the rule. At some point these guys age,
and Philip Rivers looks older, and Ben Roethlisberger looks older,
and Eli Manning looks older like it's very reasonable to
think like at some point they just don't have it anymore.
And though they may have it longer now than they

(01:02:23):
used to, because you can't hit these guys, they're just
there is a point to which becomes a young man's game.
Billy says that, come on, Doug Lamar Jackson tore up
the Knowles lest year. Yes he did, he absolutely did,
but we stopped paying attention after that. He was bad
the last three games the year when they lost. Um,

(01:02:47):
let's find out what's going on these baseball games, and
a lot of you can't say what you got there.
I do love the day baseball, maybe in the minority,
or maybe it's because I'm a sports fan and it's
a maybe growing aspect, but I do like having it
in the afternoon. But I do also understand I'm at
a job that has me watching the games, so it

(01:03:07):
could be different. I just just like, again, we we
have a tendency to solely like hyper focus on ourselves.
Like well, like I I like watching day baseball. I
don't what do all these people do for a living
that they can just be like, hey, you know, I'm
going on the baseball. It sounds actually kind of like
a good time. But the idea that you're trying to
this is, these are the eight best teams in your sport.

(01:03:29):
Baseball is very fortunate they have the eight best teams
in their sport playing and some of those popular teams
in their sport playing. You want as many eyes as
possible to see these games, and just feels like the
start times are such to which less eyes are gonna
be watching. I do like how baseball can get everything
done in a month, So that is I do like

(01:03:50):
that that appealing aspect of it takes some seven months
to get eight months, nine months to get the season.
I'm just I'm just talking about the finished product though.
Speaking of finish, the Red Socks maybe down four one
at the top of the six in Game two to
Dallas Kaiko in the Astros, Astro's getting offense from Carlos
Korea a two run shot George Springer solo home run,
no home runs today for jose L Tubay, but he

(01:04:11):
does have an RBI single. Astros have already chased starter
Drew Pomrans. David Price came in in relief, but it's
the Astros up one game to none in the series,
up four one. In Game two on the Red Sox,
Yankees and Indians gonna get underwegh in about thirty minutes
from Cleveland. Trive up one oh and that series comes
in that start their series later on tonight, as do
the Diamondbacks and Dodgers. Some news looking ahead to more

(01:04:33):
of Week five of the NFL. The Green Bay Packers
have the Cowboys on Sunday. Running back Time Montgomery doubtful
for the game. Wide receiver Davante Adams is listed as questionable,
but there is a big butt Head coach Mike McCarthy
says that if Adams is not cleared from concussion protocol,
he won't even make the trip to Dallas, which is
going to take place tomorrow. Speaking of Dallas, Dallas Kaiko

(01:04:55):
being removed from the game for the Astros. Titan's quarterback
Marcus Mariota a game time decision for some days match
up against the Dolphins because of a hamstring injury. Raiders
quarterback Derrick cart took second team reps under center today,
still dealing with a back issue, questionable for that game
against the Ravens. Could be him or EJ. Manuel starting.
And of course, last night the Buccaneers lost to the Patriots.
But the Buccaneers are gonna try out kickers starting on Monday.

(01:05:17):
According to the NFL network, is looks like Nick Folk
will be out of a job after missing three field
goals last night. Good stuff, all right, we're getting ready
to see who replaces Dallas Kaiko as an All of
a sudden he gets interesting. Uh do you know who
Dan Buyer? Without looking? Do you know who their closer is?
Like this is always always love it and and don't

(01:05:38):
get me wrong, um you got Harrison Davinski who can
come out of the pen, and both have been have
been excellent this year at times. But do you know
who the who the Astro's closer is? And I know
we're not at closer time just yet. If I turned
my Mike on, um gosh, it was Ken Giles at
one point, but that may have been a while ago,

(01:06:01):
a while ago. It right now, I think it is.
I think I mean, like look he had, he had,
he had the best year. I mean he had. The
point is more like Ken John like that. That's where
it starts to get interesting for the Astros. Ken Giles
has not really been a closer. He's closed at times. Um,

(01:06:23):
he had a very good year with three strikeouts in
sixty two innings. Like that's swinging, getting guys to swing
and miss. So I'm I'm intrigued by This is the
part to the Astros where it's all of a sudden
starts to get interesting. Right where are they built? Are
they constructed the right way? Their lineup produces runs, unbelievable

(01:06:46):
hitting lineup, But you win. You win a World Series
based upon your bullpen. Like everybody knows that, right everybody.
So I'm fascinated to see exactly what happens now that
you've gotten with runners in score, You got runners on
on base? Can the can the bullpen come in and

(01:07:11):
do a job? I mean, let's play a little game.
And now Rama said I throw you off by saying
play a little game. Yeah, okay, my bad. That's I'll
take I'll take the blame for that. I mean I

(01:07:32):
shouldn't take the blame for that, but I'll take the
blame for that, because it is still kind of what
did the Fox says the game we usually play at
the end of the hour, but the guys have something
else that they prepared that they want to play at
the end of this hour, something I'm sure to make
fun of me. And I want to talk about Cam
Newton at some point. All right, earlier today on was
it what? First things first, Chris Carter and Nick Right,

(01:07:55):
we're talking about Cam Newton, take a listen. Is a
streak where he's a streaky ball player, so earlier in
the game. We'll see if this week what he's going through,
which I believe to be a real distraction, how it
affects a play on the field, and particularly if these
If I had a team and you told me, I
could draft Cam Newton and I'm like Cam as a
football player, or I can draft Matthew Stafford. I would

(01:08:18):
take Matthew Stafford because I believe that I'm gonna win
more games long term as a franchise. M is is
the NFL's version of a more talented j R. Smith.
And I know how I know how upset you get
at j R. Smith. You love j R. Smith, but
what you hate is he's streaky and Cam is a
more talented I would say Cam's more of the NFL's

(01:08:41):
version of Russell Westbrook. Uh maybe maybe. Um. Look, I
the premise of what it's actually not a bad comparison,
but I don't think he's as good as Russell Westbrook.
I understand. I understand what Nick Wright is getting at.
Was he hounting on the desk? It was somebody hammering

(01:09:02):
in the background. What the hell was that? That was
the weirdest thing ever. Look, the premise of what Chris
Carter is saying is what Cam Newton is a deep thrower,
an athletic quarterback, but not a high accuracy guy, and
not as good in the pocket as a Matt Stafford.

(01:09:22):
And Stafford a guy who has been maligned for years
for his win loss record versus above five teams. The
reality of it is the way in which he plays,
the style of quarterback that he plays, and part of
it is the evolution that he's seen under Jim Bob
couterss offensive coordinator will last longer, win more games in
this NFL, and I tend to agree. Look, my big

(01:09:44):
issue with Cam Newton and the quasi apolt Let's let
let's let's listen to the Apoloty. Here's the important part
of his apology that he posted on social media. I
have to careful though I understand that my word choice
was extremely big, gray, eating and disrespectful. That's a woman.
And to be honest, that was not my attentions. And

(01:10:07):
if you are a person who took a fit to
what I said, I sincerely apologize to you. See you
don't You don't qualify an apology, right, You don't say
if you're a person who is offended, then I apologize.
You say sorry. I look, all you really have to

(01:10:28):
do is just say this, I was an ass and
you're like, okay. Because we've all had moments, which like
my kids I am. I try to be as genteel
as possible with my kids, right, and there are times
in which I get upset and my my daughter Harper
will call me out, like dad, what what got into you? Like?

(01:10:50):
I just lost my mind for a second, that dude
cut me off. I was scared something would happen to you.
She's like, yeah, but you like got really really mad.
We all go through things. We all go through times
when you haven't slept, you didn't need, you ate too much,
you don't feel good, you had a bad practice, you
have a day of bad day of work, boss man
got you down, you know, and you say something you
shouldn't say, and especially as a dude, we just go like, hey,

(01:11:14):
I was an a hole, you know you know the
thing I said? You know, I mean it like, no,
I didn't mean I just I could go through a
a bunch of apologies and whatever I was wrong. That's it,
because now we start to go, well, my choice of words,
it was a lot more in your choice of words.

(01:11:37):
Facially you were incredibly dismissive, and um, the idea after
thinking about you had to think about it? Who had
to think about it? The moment we saw the video,
the moment we heard the audio, everyone I know Krim's goes,
oh what are you doing? No one thought that was good.

(01:11:57):
You didn't if you had to spend a lot of
time him and thought into wow, you know what that
could have been offensive to some people. Then there's some
wiring stuff that's just not right in there. Yes, music,
but isn't it also not necessarily just about like the
choice of words, more about like the intentions behind it,

(01:12:20):
Like I'm superior to you. It's not just like, oh,
you dropped the word woman into there, Like, it's more
about the intentions behind the message you're trying to deliver,
not just the words. I just I don't think he's
very I don't think he's very bright. I just I
don't I don't think anybody. I mean, and I am
I being a jerk because his syntax is all wrong.
And sure maybe, but years old, at some point you

(01:12:44):
know you can understand where there should be and should
not be an s like I always think of good
English and bad English as like traveling when you play basketball.
You play basketball, like, oh I think I just traveled there? Right?
Oh that doesn't like I'm um, you like when I
always you when you're texting somebody and go like, uh,

(01:13:04):
where where were you? You know, if you ever like wait,
should was be there? And like where was? Like? No,
that's not right. This doesn't feel right, doesn't sound right.
You know, if you ever use bad grammar, it should
feel like traveling feels if you played basketball time like
oh that was that? That was a travel Oh that
was the wrong syntax. There So is that part of it, sure,

(01:13:27):
But more than anything, just there's it's so robotic in
his apology, All you need to do, Cam, all you
need to do is, hey, I was an a hole. Okay,
you know that thing with that girl? My bad. Sorry.

(01:13:50):
I'd like to say it won't happen again, but that's
not realistic. There are gonna be moments in my life
in which I'm an a hole. Are You're like, okay,
I actually I would. I would find myself far more
forgiving of somebody that can admit that they have that
in them and that it just came out than I
am of somebody who waits, waits, waits and tries to

(01:14:12):
say the right thing while not really trying to apologize
because he doesn't really think he offended because he was
just kind of trying to keep it real. And that's say,
all right, we're gonna and introduce a new segment. Apparently
I do something that drives them crazy here and they

(01:14:34):
want to know exactly what I'm doing and what I'm saying.
We'll play it for you up coming next. What True Car.
You can find out what other people in your area
paid for the same car you're looking for, new or used.
Visit True Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience.

(01:14:56):
It didn't feel like we've freaked out enough about Tom
Petty Dyan right, like like Prince died. It was like
every you know, like every radio station, and Prince is
immensely talented. I'm not trying to I'm not trying any
way to go like, uh, you know, um two demean Prince,

(01:15:18):
but like, I don't know, aren't they equal parts awesome? Damn? Buy?
Am I wrong on that? Like it feels like we've
freaked out a lot more when Prince. I think there
are the reasons probably why for what's happened this past
week with with why that why that story may not
have got as much you know pub why well what
happened because of Vegas. Um, that's a good point, a

(01:15:41):
fair point. I didn't actually even think about it that way. Yeah,
I mean part of it is I don't listen to
as much to like Top forty radio. I just I
do remember that's it's a good point, bad time to die,
huh if you're like a star, just to get overwhelmed
by the incredible grief of what happened. There's some incredib
double stories and heroism though too. It's like I'm I

(01:16:02):
taught my son about silver linings, you know, and he
was he had a bad day last week and he
just was not in a good place. I was actually
Sunday night, I told I told you music that my my,
my dude had a tough baseball game Sunday, and so
he was he was just a mess. He was tired.
And you know in kids, even when you're eight, and

(01:16:24):
he does a lot of stuff to which you don't
have to be eight to do, and so you think
of him as older than he is, and you're like, well,
the day he's just eight, you know, he's still end
of the day, like I'm still his hero, and if
he had a choice, he would have me sleep in
his bed, like holding his hand any night of the week,
like that's his We're still that tight because he hasn't

(01:16:45):
gotten to where like he didn't need dad anymore. So, uh.
He and I was teaching about silver linings and I
said like, you know, hey, and every cloud's got a
silver lining it Like, what's that mean? I kind of
explained it to him, and he was talking about I
don't I don't love school and I'm just school forever.
I was like, well kinda, yeah, yeah, still like college

(01:17:09):
and then yeah, after college, then you're then you're done.
Then you gotta work every day, like I want to
work now, Like no, don't um Anyway, I was like, well,
what what don't you like about your school? And he's
like everything. I was like, come on, he's just in
a bad place. Like I was like, all right, tell
me something you like. Like there's three recesses are there?
You go, there's a silver lining three recesses. So I

(01:17:31):
guess in the just horrific tragedy of what happened that
Sunday night in Vegas, there are some silver linings there.
There are some amazing stories of heroism people you know,
shielding other people, And I would love to think like
I'm one of those guys. Like I love thinking, oh
I'm one of those guys. Like there's shooting starts, like

(01:17:52):
I'm gonna shield shield somebody like my kids, my wife,
but like some random stranger. There's lots of dudes walking
around like, yeah, I do that. Now. You would not
let me start shooting. You start running as fast as
you can, heading for the hills. It's amazing with people
are amazing. They are amazing. Alright, sorry, sorry to go
and get off on that. But if I just I

(01:18:14):
find the more I I think about, uh, think about
his death, the more I'm like, Wow, that guy was
really amazing, really talented talented guy here all right, there's
a new game that the crew wants to play. It's
called The Dog Say. Okay, so I do this thing

(01:18:35):
where I think maybe I think it's kind of like
a mini Jim Gaffigan, Like, do you guys know what
Jim is it? Jim Gaffigan? It doesn't where he does
he is comedy and then he does like the the
voice inside somebody's head of somebody else in the room, like,
oh love it, right, But I I do like my
own kind of running commentary at times alongside my own

(01:19:00):
commentary that makes sense? Is that is that a proper assessment? Okay? Sure,
that's at least what I think I'm doing. So, uh,
here's how are we going to do this? I can
I can tell you what we've got. Sometimes you'll say
a sentence and then what you'll maybe mumble is what's
in parentheses? That would maybe be the way that we're
gonna figure this out. You guys are gonna try to

(01:19:22):
figure out what's in the parentheses. So I'm gonna play
a little bit um from the Vito Violante world of audio.
We are gonna pull We've pulled some some of your parentheses.
Let's just put it that way. You, John Robos and
Ryan Music will try to figure out what you were
actually saying. So Number one, that's now one of the
five best movies of all time. That was easy, Okay,

(01:19:46):
I guess first, go ahead. It's not one of the
five best movies of all time, John Ramos, it was
the five best movie of all time. Ryan Music, I'm
gonna go with John. That was one of the best
five best movies that all time. It was a it
was a fun movie for a kid to watch, to
think of the power of sport right in the relationship
between a kid and a professional athlete. That's not one

(01:20:09):
of the five best movies of all time. So yeah,
Doug was right on. It's now one of the five
best movies of all time. That's the that's how it sounds.
That's not great radio. It's not I'm actually blushing and
I don't. I don't blush it many things. Hey, al right,
so I can understand Doug talk. That's good because I
am Doug. Alright, what else you got cares if it's

(01:20:31):
your one for one, so you're good at this game.
Let's go for number two. Becomes interesting to me. That
becomes interesting to me. John Rama, Yeah, that becomes interesting
to me. I agree, alright, going against excuse my Gundy,
it becomes interesting to me. There it is. By the way,
I had to rerecord some of these like four times

(01:20:52):
to just get the levels up high enough to do it.
But hey, we're two for two, let's go how about
three for three? Guys think it makes sense, hope makes sense.
I think it makes sense. I hope it makes sense.
I think it's sense. Ryan Music, I think he said.
I don't think it makes sense. I don't think it
makes sense, but I hope it makes sense. I think
that's right. I don't think it makes sense, but I

(01:21:14):
do hope it makes sense. You still aren't necessarily considered
that high major or super high major, and it's more
a budget commentary than it is a commentary about the
quality of your team. That makes sense. I don't think
I think it makes sense. Hope makes sense. YE think
it makes sense. That was right, So he so he said,

(01:21:35):
I think it makes sense. Yeah, I think it makes sense.
I hope it makes sense. All right, let's do let's
do number four here again? That no idea? You're up first? No,
I gotta hear it again. No, no, no, that's not
part of the game. I don't ad you're rolling. Don't

(01:21:59):
go all right? Anyway? Something about the other teams something
I can't tell John Ramos give it to me once again?
The other anyway? Anyway, it is the other team anyway,
I think who's the team? Who was the team to
do it? Anyway? The other team is Missouri? Remember there
to seed the less of Norfolk State? The other that

(01:22:22):
was the other team of do it. Oh, that's what
it was to do? Got a script? Yeah, I got it.
The other thing to do it? I actually heard it.
I got it right. And now what the sy alright,
so probably don't do the mumbling thing anymore. It's not
good radio because people can't hear it and understanding except
for me. Yeah, that's that's not it's not great. The

(01:22:45):
ruling radio is widest set of the ears and that
violates that rule. Will work on it. Thanks Cash for
point that out some But sometimes you need to be
lucky and good. Next in the Dug got what opposite?

(01:23:08):
Doug Gott leave show Fox Sports Radio. Um, if you're
just joining us, you're just joining us. Uh? The what
what the f did Doug say? Was my wife's favorite
segment every nice and you got it was driving. She's like,
I told you, mumble all the time. I don't mumble

(01:23:31):
as as Dan Buyers said, I speak in that's my parentheses.
That's the that's the humble, and that's that's the addition,
the addendum to the previous statement. That's exactly what it is,
Astros continued, lead is that an eight? Is that? Is that?
What that is? Is that that is an eight, eight
to one against the Red Sox. It's over, Jenny uh

(01:23:53):
in the top of the seventh inning with two outs,
make that the real outs. Yes, three outs, So we
head to the bottom of the seventh inning where the
Astros in complete control. Now, look, the Astros have choked
things up going back a couple of years ago in
the place, so it's not it's not over, but it's sure.

(01:24:16):
It's sure feeling close that way right there, getting ready
to roll the credits. They do have Verlanders still, they
can use Verlinder on full rest. It feels good, real
good to be an Astro right now. But um, yeah,
this could This could be like one of your If
you're a hater, this could be a great weekend for you,

(01:24:37):
right like Notre Dame on the road, big favorite going
against North Carolina. Starting quarterback, not likely to play. Oh,
that's a fun one if you're a hater. If you're
the same hater, Yankees are probably gonna get swept. That
just feels that way. Red Sox are working the way
of getting swept like all the haters out there, Like, man,
this is awesome. But I could just have Lebron lose

(01:24:59):
in the play offs and Kevin Durant missed a bunch
of shots, I'd be incredible. But a missed opportunity for
haters last night in Tampa Florida. By the way, it's
not in Tampa Bay. If you were in Tampa Bay,
you'd be in the water. You're in Tampa, Florida. Anyway,

(01:25:23):
in Tampa Florida last night, I guess the story is
the kicking game of the of the Buccaneers. But but
the truth is that though Folk missed a kick late
that could have made it closer, it's not like the
Patriots were kind of in control throughout in the second half.

(01:25:47):
But I've often often said this that it's better to
be lucky than good, it's better to be clutched than good.
And I don't know whether the Patriots were clutched last
night or they were good last night, and hell they
were Tampa Buccaneers did not convert a first down until
like the fourth quarter on third on third down, didn't
convert a third down until the fourth quarter. It was crazy.

(01:26:10):
So the defense was better, but a lot of it
was Tampa. Just how do they choked or they're not
that good or not ready for prime time. I can't
tell what happened with Jamis Winston, but that was as
disappointing a performance. And Thursday night games are not necessarily
bigger games. They can be poop shows, right, But to

(01:26:31):
go against statistically the worst defense in the NFL at
home on a short week and usually Thursdays at least
going back to last week right dominated by offense. If
you go with the Rams and the Niners, teams don't
have as much time to prepare, The Patriots aren't good defense,
So there's no stat that tells you come into last

(01:26:51):
night they were any good and they couldn't convert on
third down at all. So, Mike, look, if you're the Patriot,
it's and I think Patriot fans are sitting there going
kind of lucky last night, right, running into Tampa, who
a little bit depleted defensively with some injuries. Running into Tampa,

(01:27:11):
who Jameis Winston probably pressed, try to do too much,
was really missing on some throws. Running to Tampa that
doesn't know how in US competing in prime time games
and took advantage of it. But Tampa's only playing their
third game of the year because they didn't have the
first game because because the Storm, Patriots didn't have Gronk

(01:27:35):
haven't been good coming off a home loss shortly to prepare,
have to travel, and your kicker can't make a kick,
your quarterback can't make an accurate throw, and you can't
convert a third down. Like I'd love to say Patriots
for awesome last night, but they weren't. They just kind
of survived. They were more fortunate than anything. And fortunately
is just a very very fancy smart word something you

(01:28:01):
go to the source for, right, Like, how do I
say lucky without saying lucky? And fortunate is probably the
best way, you know. You go to the saurus for lucky.
And you'll see all these other antonyms out there, fortuitous, beneficial, blessed, charmed,

(01:28:27):
golden um, favored, promising, propitious, prosperous, serendipitous. But they're all
saying the same thing. Patriots of Lucky last night, right,
they played like a legit team. Beat You play in

(01:28:49):
Buffalo last night. You play in New Orleans, who they
beat earlier this year. But you play in New Orleans
now without grown, I think you beat maybe you can Carolina,
anybody in the NFC South. It's been weird the the
DNFC East and then sc South to start out against

(01:29:09):
each other, to play against the Rams, Legans, the Seahawks, Lagans,
the Packers, all Boys, Broncos play against the Steelers last night,
How are you even played the Ravens that can't score like, oh,
Tom Brady gets crushed by because he has because his
offensive lines a mess. Um, here's Dirk Cutter trying to

(01:29:32):
explain Nick Folks, kicking wasn't what we need tonight. I mean,
you know that one before the half that was that
was a long one, but to win, but um, you
know the other one, the other one who's forty nine
or something, and then the one at the end. That hurt.
I mean, we that would have that would have given
us a good chance. But you know it's just one.
It's one play and it went against us. One play

(01:29:56):
and one against this What is he talking about? He
missed three, He missed three field goals. He was trying
to not be mean to him, but try to explain
that it was kind of his fault. I don't think
it was all his fault though, right like music, do
you think all like the losses completely on if you
can't compete, uh, complete third downs? Like, it's not all

(01:30:17):
on him, I got you. It's not all on him,
but it's it's heavy on him. It's like him on
Jamis Winston. Um, Look it was six, it was sixteen
to seven when he missed a field goal. Because Jamis
did enough to wear at the end. That field goal

(01:30:38):
could have been a big difference. He missed two when
they're up sixteen to seven. You know, he missed two
and they're up sixteen and seven. That that parts for.
But Jamis wasn't like there's a bunch of bunch of
misthrows by Jamis Winston, bunch of mis throws. They were
terrible on third down Jamis was twenty six forty six
against against the defense which had been a sieve against

(01:31:01):
so many other quarterbacks. Like, let's not third down efficiency.
They were four of thirteen. All four of those conversions
were in the fourth quarter. Um, but yeah, I mean
they look. You could say the same that the difference
was kicking game in many ways, but like, look, you
score a late touchdown. I don't know. I think Nick

(01:31:25):
Folks struggling and Nick Folks struggling last week, it changes
your play calling. It changed This is what you saw
last night and what you'll see even what you see
him from the Buccaneers. When you can't depend on the kicker,
that's a lot. It's like the opposite of how people
used to play against the Yankees. Do you remember when
the Yankees were really good and they had an awesome,
just awesome BULLPENA Mario RIVERI You go eighth and ninth inning, right,

(01:31:49):
and you just felt like once you get to the
fourth or fifth inning, guys were swinging a lot sooner
in the count because you just you didn't want to
get down a run or two runs and have to
face that incredible bullpen, because you felt like if you
got to the seventh like set up Man into Mo Rivera.
It was over and there's not much you could do

(01:32:11):
about it. You got tight strikes and got loose and
it was over. Well, that's the opposite of what you
do when you don't have a kicker. I'm convinced that
kicking is a lot like quarterback play. Right, there's like
five great ones, there's like ten good ones, and then

(01:32:31):
the rest of it is like yeah, right, it's it's
There's just there's only a certain number of people who
can do that job, which is weird because kickers are
not that well paid and they're incredibly important. Don't believe me,
they're important. Find out what it's like when you don't

(01:32:53):
have one. Who's the best kicker in football? You think?
I always go Justin Turner. I think lines the best.
I want to saying Justin huh line of the Rams,
Justin Tucker. I'm Justin Turners. I'm looking at something with
the Dodgers in front of me. Sorry, Justin Tucker, Justin Tucker.
Remember of Texas, the end of the Texas Texas and

(01:33:14):
m rivalry made field goal. He's got a booming, booming leg.
Zir lines right there? Um, I've been a Dan Bailey guy.
Although Dan had a down season last year. We talked
about when we're up at Cowboys camp with him by
or who would you go? Is your who? He thinks
the best kicker in the NFL. Gaskowski is pretty good.
He is pretty good and last night obviously helped make
that argument. He's had some last year, he had some

(01:33:36):
miskicks that he should have made. Um, you know, zir
lines Number one, Praytors great Prator benefited from playing in
the altitude in Denver, but that's Prayer's season. When Tim
tebow led them, One's tebow time, like the untold story
of that. I was in the radio. I was like, oh,
one going like, does anybody realize how good Matt Prator

(01:33:58):
is because a lot of those drives were ended in
a fifty fifty six yard field goal in altitude and
Prater was so so good. Um good knows had a
very good year. Robbie Gold continues to kick well. Member
Robert Gold used to be with the Bears when they
went to Super Bowl. Now he's with the Niners. I
don't want to name every kicker, but Mason Crosby is

(01:34:19):
Ben Klutz for Green Bay and Stephen haus at least
from distance now with Buffalo previously of Seattle has made
like ninth straight fifty yard field goals. So yeah, I mean,
like like Justin Justin Tucker, he's amazing, He's he's incredible.
Now their their offense stinks, so that getting zero line
has been amazed. The thing about the Rams is the

(01:34:40):
Rams had the best punter and the best kicker. They
get their un and they're pretty good in the return
game too. Lot'll help me get to my picks, which
we'll get to a little bit later on this hour.
In the meantime, Bruce Feldman joins the show. Up coming next,
I'm gonna ask him about something that he kind of
semi broke about the college BASKETBA all FBI investigation on

(01:35:01):
Twitter earlier today. Pause, I'll ask about Lamar Jackson. What
we all like fooled last year? Um? Or is he
just you know, are we are our expectations too high?
Because I'm not saying Lamar Jackson is a bad player,
but can you stop with you? He's the best player
in college football. Thing that's up coming next, but first,

(01:35:22):
how would you like to save over seven hundred dollars
right now? How would you like to get in the
best shape of your life while saving over seven hundred dollars?

Air Force, Marines, m m A guys, even professional athletes.

you like to have the body of an Olympic sprinter?
And the best way to do so is to go

with tips from a knowledgeable pro. At Farmers dot Com,
we are Doug Gallump Show, Fox Sports Radio, My picks

(01:37:01):
up coming in ten minutes. As I know, America waits
with bated breath, no question, I just wait with bad breath.
Bruce Feldman will be on the sidelines of TCU West
Virginia matchup of two ranked teams TCU undefeated one at Arkansas,
one at Oklahoma State. So they got probably uh, the
two biggest roads scalps of anybody in the Big twelve.

(01:37:23):
I know that, oh you went one at Ohio State,
but to to not just win out of conference but
went in league, that's great stuff. Of course you can
see that on that Bruce, that big Fox or Fox
Sports one. We are FS one tomorrow, Doug, alright, FS one.
That's because baseball probably over on on the Fox side, Uh,
TCU for real or just fortunate, No, I think they've

(01:37:45):
gotten a lot better. I mean last year they had
about eighteen years. This year it's up over twenty. Gary
Patterson's team, I think now has has some good depth.
They got two really good running backs. They're gonna get
Kyle Hicks, who's probably as verstal as any running back
in the country back to with Darius Anderson. I think
the other key is Kenny Hills playing well. I mean,
they've been really good on third downs. They've been the

(01:38:06):
best in the country on third downs. He's been very
smart with the football and uh, you know, they got
a rolling I mean, everybody knows Gary Patterson's a great
defensive coach, and I think right now this team has
uh it's like they were able to red shirt some guys,
so I think they're they got there. They got their
kind of kind of juice back again. It feels like
though that the Big Twelve is gonna end up as

(01:38:27):
the Big Twelve always does. Right, three teams with one loss, Right,
they finally get a championship game, Oklahoma State losing at
home to Tecu. Uh if they if Oklahoma State and
they got to get some stuff together to now they
got no walk in the park when they go, you know,
when they play Texas for example. That that's West Virginia
is not a walk in the park because you're gonna
see the Ears take on the horn Frogs. But it

(01:38:48):
does feel like the Big Twelve in their effort to
finally get a true champion, you're gonna end up with
three one lost teams and that's not gonna be good
for anybody. Yeah, well, I'm good luck to the team
that's gonna notknock off Baker Mayfield, though I think that
he's still to me with behind a really good offensive line,
and even though there's no DD restaurant, it's a deep
group of receivers. I think what's critical for them is,

(01:39:11):
you know, they had some mental breakdowns in the secondary
against Baylor, but I think Mike Stoops has a more
experienced defense, a lot of seniors on that group. And again,
I wouldn't bet against Baker Mayfield there, you know, anywhere,
against any of these guys, just because all these other
teams have had significant flaws. I mean, Oklahoma State, as
great as they are on offense, the defense is still
a big question mark. And you look around the league.

(01:39:34):
But like you said, you know, all it takes his
one stumble and then you're you know, you're you're back
into in the pack again. It's interesting we talked about
Baker Mayfield. Obviously he's been in the Heisman discussion, he's
been a Heisman finalist, and he hasn't wanted. Then you
watch Lamar Jackson last night and like, look at the numbers,
still look really good, but there's a lack of accuracy,

(01:39:55):
and I know his his surrounding cast is not great either,
but it does feel like I don't want to say
we were duped, but boy we we sure did take
that Florida State game last year a little bit too seriously, right,
Like we didn't even pay attention to the fact he
didn't play well down the stretch. He let him on
a comeback that came up short against Clemson. I just

(01:40:16):
the more I watch, maybe it's a shot at Louisville,
or I don't think they're nearly as legitimate as they
have been ranked or thought of in the start or
middle of either the past two years. Maybe it's Lamar Jackson,
maybe it's a combination of the both. But anytime it's
feels like they play a legit team, they look just okay.
Is that is that crazy talk? Yeah? No. Look, I
think what it comes down to is they're not very

(01:40:37):
good on the offensive line, and it gets exposed against
Houston and at Oliver's or got exposed last year with
an l s HU team and a bunch of NFL players.
And I think the other thing is Todd Grantham is
a really good defensive coordinator. Now he's in Starkville, and
I think they've had to adjust, uh, scheme wise, I
think they've had adjust a little bit. You know, personnel wise.

(01:40:57):
They lost some good players who were on that defense
last year, and so I think they're a good team.
And sometimes Lamar, because he's such a special athlete, can
can cover over a lot of that and he's gonna
put up ridiculous numbers, which he's done, but you know,
the realities are probably an eight and four and nine
and three kind of team, just because the offensive line
is not really good and because the defense is really

(01:41:18):
is pretty average. Um, Doug Otlie Show Fox Sports Trayer,
that's the voice of Bruce Felman. I know you cover
the college game and cover well, you've written books about
the quarterback position. But earlier today you tweeted that your
sources say the FBI stuff is not done that there
will be some more schools. Do you care to indulge
us as to what you know? Yeah? So you know,

(01:41:41):
from what I've read from a couple of multiple sources
now is it's been an issue now that several schools
have had to start vetting and further their investigation basically
the check phone records and start to see how widespread
some of these issues are within their athletic departments and
within their basketball program. So you know, from from what

(01:42:03):
I've heard earlier in the week, it could be as
many as thirty schools who could get uh implicated in
this and that staffords who were in serious jeopardy. Um,
you know. And then what I had you know, reported
this morning was something I had heard last night. And
I think it's a situation where right now, I think
there's a lot of people who really need to be

(01:42:23):
If you're a big time college basketball program, I think
you need to be holding your breath at this. And
if you're you're if you're a fan of a big
time program, I think you better be careful who you're
wishing gets in trouble because it may end up being
your own school who gets who gets you know, caught
in this. Yeah, and we just we just don't know.
And of course all of the coaches that have had
assistance involved, all of them have coming out and said,

(01:42:45):
I had we had no idea anything any of this
stuff was going on. Of course none of them, None
of them knew. Um. And and you know, the question
is not what they knew what they did, but what
can be proven that they knew? Right, that's the and
what But Doug looks different here than the n c
A is we're talking about, you know, the FBI. And
there's a lot stronger justice, you know engine that's driving

(01:43:07):
it than kind of how the n c A system
of just this is kind of has a Keystone Cops
element to it. That's not this anymore. There's there's a
lot more teeth behind it. Now. Bruce Felban joining us
on the Doug Gotlich Show at ours Ron has a
twelve million dollar buyo. Is there any possibility that they
execute that? Biou? No, I don't think so. Um. I

(01:43:28):
think I remember they're still playing less miles off of
you know, his deal from from before. I think you
know you hired the guy. I think you have to
give him a couple of years to see where you know,
what he can do. I mean, I know, I get
that people are saying, oh, well, he struggled mightily at
Old miss He's not that guy. I mean, if he
was that guy, he wouldn't have been uh Stanford when

(01:43:49):
they were top five team in USC had no roster depth,
but they wouldn't have blown out Louisville, to be honest,
last year, or won a bunch of games last year
in the SEC. I think what you see is a
program that is seriously depleted in terms of you know,
on the d line and places on the offensive line,
and I think, you know, they need to step up.
They did not respond well when they played Mississippi State

(01:44:10):
on the road. It's a young team, but there's no
excuse for that. And then last week, I mean, just
to just to lose Detroit, I mean credits and people,
Brown staff and they have there. They won ten games
last year and they almost be Clemson. You still can't
lose to them at home. And so I'm curious to
see how they pick up the pieces. Now. They go
three and nine and lose the rest of their games,
and I think they'll be serious panic. And then you

(01:44:31):
start seeing, okay, well, how wide spread that the issue
become to sponsor stop, you know, pull back to the
fans who say, hey, well, I want no part of this.
But I think you have to be realistic here. It's
year one and they signed on for this and they're
three and two. It's not like, you know right now,
there's there's no there's no magic all over the Peah.
There's no magic one there. I think there's there's two things.

(01:44:54):
One and Bruce Felman joining us uh Fox Sports College
Football analysts reporter joining us on the Doug Otlip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. There's two parts to it. The first
is Matt Canadas system is such a departure from what
they have done for the past decade plus that there
are going to be growing pains right there. Just are

(01:45:14):
and um, you know they're getting beaten. And but here's
the troubling part to it. And I understand that transition.
Everybody wants change. Transition is really hard, um, but orgeron
Colin plays or having them stop at the motion or
with any of the formation changes during the first half

(01:45:36):
is really like, what are you doing? Dude? You're a
d line coach and a good one and a head coach.
You hire a guy to do a job, Let him
do his job. I just thought that was a really
bad look from a guy who's been an assistant, been
a head coach. He's been around enough, he knows better.
Why did he do that? Yeah? I think that you
know you you're right. You you pay a guy a

(01:45:56):
million and a half a year or whatever. You gotta
let him do his thing, the through the positives and
the and the lows. And I think kind of what
happened is you saw a lot of penalties and a
lot of struggling to get out of their own way.
And I think he saw a panic move. I don't
know if he was. I don't think he was actually
really saying, hey, I want to I'm gonna call this

(01:46:16):
or that. I think what you have to keep in mind, though, is,
like any head coach, I mean, they're going to have
say in what happens. I mean, if you think that
somebody who's a defensive minded coach doesn't have influence over
you know, what they decided to do on third and
short or something like that, I mean, I think you're
kidding yourself if you don't think that goes on. But
I think in the case of this when you're losing,

(01:46:37):
and when you lose it home to a to a
Sun Belt team, I think everything gets heightening. And I
think that's how it. It's kind of blown up. And
my death is he he knows, you know what I
gotta I gotta ride with Matt count and I believed
in him enough to hire him. And even though there's
been growing pains, Uh, you know, he knows what's best
and I'm gonna I'm gonna have to deal with it.
And I think he's got to learn that and ride

(01:46:58):
it out. You know. It's funny. Um. I talk with
an SEC basketball coach and he said, hey, look, man,
look because of the simplicity with which a lot of
these guys are, how how they're taught and Um, in
basketball at least, He's like, if you watch SEC teams play,
they're not running the most intricate offenses basketball wise? Is

(01:47:21):
that the same in football? My can't is Canada style
just too complex to go from? They were kind of
running rudimentary stuff under under less? Uh? Is that what
it is? That it's just too much for them to
consume in a short period of time. I think some
of it is you have you know, I think conditioning wise,
there's a lot of there's a lot of motioning that
goes on. Receivers better be in great shape, especially when

(01:47:42):
guys I've played a lot, and I think what you
see is you see too freshmen were starting on the
offensive line. You see a lot of new, new new guys.
And to remember, if Darius Guys, who's probably the second
best running back in college football, if he's not banged up,
you know, he's a big function of the offense right now,
he didn't even play the other day. So I think
a lot of these things just came to the surface
with it. I don't think it means that these guys

(01:48:04):
can't handle something that that intricate is intricate. Maybe it
does take a little more time though, for for them
to get it drilled in, just because of it's something
very very new for them and for the longest time
unless he was really you know, it wasn't exactly probably
what Cam Cameron wanted. It was what Less Miles wanted
in the past. Fascinating stuff. Bruce listen enjoy fort Worth

(01:48:27):
can't wait to see on the sidelines. That's Fox Sports
one West Virginia taken on TCU. Bruce to be on
the sideline was great, great information, Bruce, Thanks so much
for joining us. Always a pleasure. Thanks for having me.
Pleasure is mine. Follow him on Twitter because there's a
guy so connected he even knows about the basketball schedule
that's taken place. Um he's cut, He's cut. Corey Clover

(01:48:49):
has cut. I feel like this is the moment where
Rocky uh where um Ivan Drago was bleeding. Was that
rocky for Dan Buyer? Is that what it was? I
think it was that I'm gonna, I'm gonna. We know that.
That's fine. He wasn't hit by a gavel thrown by
Aaron Judge, but Aaron Judge was one of the Yankees
that scored on. Gary Sanchez is to run home run

(01:49:11):
off of Corey Kluber on the top of the first setting.
Now heading to the bottom half of the inning, Yankees
up on the Indians to nothing in Game two of
their America the Divisional Series. Indians lead the best of
five matchup one game to non. Still playing in Houston,
all Astros this afternoon, Stros taking into the Red Sox
eight to one in their Game two is Carlos Correa
has homer and knocked in four as the Astros are

(01:49:33):
just five outs away from going up two oh on.
The Boston Red Sox comes in. Nats will play at
seven thirty Eastern time tonight from d C. Domind Backs
and Dodgers do it late in l A at ten
thirty Eastern time. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has considered a
game time decision for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins because
of a hamstring injury. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was taking
reps with the second team in practice today, still dealing

(01:49:56):
with that back injury. He's considered questionable to play against
their against the Ravens in Week five. Vikings will have
Sam Bradford on the practice field on a limited basis.
Today limited in practice was Bradford. Vikings have the Bears
coming up on Monday night and of course the Big
show Down on Sunday afternoon in Dallas, says the Packers
going to Arlington to face the Cowboys. Packers running back

(01:50:17):
Time Montgomery is doubtful to play in the game because
of a rib injury. Davante Adam still in concussion protocol
but considered questionable, and tonight a big soccer match. Doug
United States men's national team taking on Panama in a
World Cup qualifier. If they win and would be a big,
big step for them qualifying for next year's World Cup
in Russia. Basically, we win, we're in. Is that the thing?

(01:50:38):
That would be a very very good situation. Because there's
only two matches left. The Americans will face Trinidad and
Tobago coming up on Tuesday. They're the worst group or
the worst team in the United States group. So you
would imagine that they would be able to win that match,
even though it's on the road. But it would be
a very, very huge step if they win um today
to qualify for Russia. I kind of think very huge

(01:51:01):
is redundant. I hate to hate to be that guy.
I hate to be a syntax guy, but it's in
very huge because huge is already big, and in very huge,
I guess maybe not because you say very big, very huge,
I don't know, what do you think very huge? Yeah,
it's big, I think I can say. I think I
could say both, Okay, that was, that was? That was?

(01:51:23):
What was your parent? What did you say under your parenthice?
And then again I don't know there was And then
again I don't know Okay, I listened to. I listened to. I.
I speak very good, mumble speak, very good, mumble. Let's
get to my pick, shall we I want? Well, we
got him five NFL five college. It's five for five,

(01:51:46):
which Doug Godli, Let's go five. Let's win some money,
shall we money? Money, money, money, money, put on like money.
The USC has taken on Oregon State. My brother coached
an Organ State in basketball, basketball, not football. Football is terrible.
They are terrible. They are bad. I think the only
question is does UFC USC call off the dogs early

(01:52:08):
after the win last week getting ready for next week?
That's like, literally literally the only question you have because
Organ State the Beavers who last week at home against
you dub they lost forty two to seven. They gave
a fifty two at Washington State. Uh, they gave up
forty eight at home to Minnesota, fifty eight on the

(01:52:29):
road to Colorado State. So if you're scoring at home,
they have given up eight and fifty two on the
road in their only two road games. That is an average.
Help me out here, Ramas, is that fifty five points
on average? I believe that is um If Colorado State
and Washington State can score five USC off of loss

(01:52:51):
can score fifty five or even sixty, and they don't
have much offense to boot. They've actually lost their starting
quarterback for the year. Um. I like USC and and
that huge point spread. Um, but I'm also gonna go
against some huge point spreads tech. SA and M is
not great at quarterback, but they are athletic across the field.

(01:53:11):
They welcome in Alabama. And I don't think Nick Saban
was was He might have been using a little HYPERO
wasn't that much hyperfotly when he said this is the
most talented team we will played to date. He's right,
A and M has talent. Now is A and M
able to just sit on the ball and withstand a beating? Um?
Kind of do the Floyd may Floyd Mayweather verse three

(01:53:34):
rounds against Connor McGregor. Right, just put your dukes up
and let them wear wear themselves out. Probably not, but
I do think Texas A and M can make this
a game. The fact that they are a twenty six
and a half twenties six and a half point dog. Um. Look,
Jalen Hurts coming back home. Well, he's a good player.

(01:53:54):
I don't think he lights the world on fire. I
don't think they win by a huge number. Alabama wins,
but Texas and m covers. Give me the twenty six
and a half points. One more big spread. Maryland is
a thirty and a half point dog against Ohio State.
Say Maryland team to beat Texas Texas, same Maryland team
that is coming off of a win on the road
against Minnesota. Maryland's not great, but they're also not terrible.

(01:54:18):
Um and on the road this year they are two
and oh they're going into the horse shoe against Ohio State,
who hasn't been as thoroughly dominant. And they don't throw
the ball deep downfield. They'll just try and grind you.
And uh and and let's just try and win the
football game. I know they beat Rutgers fifty six nothing.
I know they beat un L v. Fitte, but I

(01:54:40):
think they're closer to this is closer to a grind
them out game than it is an absolute blowout. I'll
take thirty and a half points to take my chance,
take the terms to keep it relatively close on the road.
Um and then a couple other One more big spread
Michigan taking on Michigan State at home. I'm not a
buyer into Michigan State, get blown out by Notre Dame

(01:55:01):
at home. Go to Michigan, who is much better than
Notre Dame, play him on the road. I know that
Michigan had to change quarterbacks because of injury, doesn't really
matter to me. Michigan is a better team. Michigan State
won't score against their defense. Ten points isn't enough to
give me Michigan. And we talked to UM Kyle Whittingham,
the head coach Utah, earlier this week. That is a
very good defense against the run, and the best thing

(01:55:23):
that Stanford does is run the football. They'll win in
kicking game, they'll win in the punting game. Um, they
got a decide on which one of the three quarterbacks
they're going to play. But I think Utah at home
in altitude, I'm getting four and a half points. I'll
take them. So the underdogs, I'm taking Texas and m
at home, underdog, Utah at home, underdog, Maryland at home

(01:55:46):
at Maryland on the road, underdog. Take them. The favorite
sizeable I'll take USC at home against Oregon State, take them.
Michigan at home against Michigan State, take him. Let's go
to the NFL. Uh Let's start with the Dogs, shall we.
Miami has not played a home game, and they have Uh,

(01:56:06):
they look terrible the last two weeks, right, terrible overseas.
But I mean, look, I don't think they're as bad
as they've played. And I think all things the NFL,
we have a tendency to freak out to take it
on the Titans. We don't know if Marcus Mariota is
gonna play. We don't even know if the Titans are
any good even in Marcus Mariota does play. I'm gonna
take the Dolphins to bounce back. There a home dog

(01:56:28):
by three points in the NFL was three, no hook,
I'd feel even better. But I like the Dolphins to
win outright. Give me the Dolphins. Chargers are three point
dog on the road against the New York Giants. The
Chargers have two of the best pass rushers in the
National Football League, and last time I checked, the Giants
have no offensive line. Do you think for one second
that Eric Flower is gonna block Melvin Ingram or is

(01:56:49):
gonna flock block Joey Bosa. The answer is no. I
think they'll be in the backfield all afternoon long. I
like the Chargers to win outright as three point dogs.
The same can be said for the Green Bay Packers.
I know you heard the update from Dan Buyer about
the running game that's problematic, but uh, there's something amiss
with these Cowboys. They just don't seem to be focus cohesive,

(01:57:12):
sharp good and Aaron Rodgers place where the Packers still right?
I'm thinking Davante Adams clears percussion protocol. Remember, they've had
extra time to prepare for this game. I like the
Packers to win outright on the road in Dallas, couple
of a couple of favorites. Give me Detroit at home
against the Carolina Panthers. This Cam Newton stuff only masked

(01:57:35):
the fact that Cam was great against the Patriots, but
they still had to survive the Paths. Their defense is
not that good. And give me the Rams at home
against the Seahawks. Every year the Rams beat the Seahawks.
Seems like now the Rams are actually good and Seahawks
are just okay. Rams are good pass rush, Rams can
run it, Rams can throw it. Rams quarterback is better
than decent. Rams are a good football team. One a

(01:57:56):
half point favorite. Give me the Rams, give me the Lions.
Arger's Packers Dolphins. Those are the picks. There, it is
five NFL. Let's go five college five for five with
Doug Gottlie. Will we see a former Heisman Trophy winner
and franchise quarterback on the field this weekend? I'll tell

(01:58:17):
you next what True Car You can find out what
other people in your area paid for the same car
you're looking for, new or used. Visit True Car to
enjoy more confident car buying experience. Doug Gotlief Show, Fox
Sports Radio. Carlos Beltron for the Astros. Now do you

(01:58:40):
remember Carlos Beltron is with the Astros? Laces single? Colus
Beltron is a great post season player, man the whole.
His postseason numbers are holy cow really really really good,
Holy cow really really good. So um and Craig Kimberall
in for the Red Sox. Red Sox just running kick
Craig Kimberrell there. That's just like when you have a

(01:59:01):
really nice car and you're like, hey, would somebody take
it on the block? Like why why is your awesome
closer pitching in an eight one blowout? Like ah, you
gotta get some oil, you know. That's why he might
not be in again. I mean Freddy Gonzalez still hasn't
used Craig Kimbrell. He's still waiting in the braves bullpen.
Let's get to the break the press. M M Byer,

(01:59:31):
Dan Buyer, what you got? My friends? Well, the Yankees
and Indians are in a dandy and it's still early
in a Donny Brook. Are you gonna use any other
nineteen twenties expression? Is too bad? I'm gonna have a
drinking and speak easy. Gary Sanchez a two run home
run on the top half of the first inning. Yankees
jumped out to it to nothing lead tribe answered in

(01:59:54):
the bottom half. Is Gary Sanchez really left handed and
simply playing with a mitt on the wrong hand? Oh
my god? This he I had heard? Like my Yankees
buddies are like, dude, Gary Sanchez can't play catcher? And
then um who It was like it was like remember
when Jason Veriteck got caught and had to catch Tim
Wakefield in the playoffs, and you're like, oh my god,
that's exactly how he looked yesterday playing the position he

(02:00:17):
he stings defensively. They should have put one of those
nets that you throw at and then it just has
the catch, you know, the square in the middle or
a bounces back to you, that would be another option. Um,
I gotta get to the Idiots bottom at of the
inning because they tied it up at two a piece.
They're tied up at two a piece in the top
of the second, but Edwin Encarnacione squeaked his ankle trying

(02:00:39):
to get back to the back in the yeah, and
he had to be helped off the field. He's aching
in today's game, but it doesn't look good for inc
because of that ankle injury. Something to watch, you know.
They they they activated Michael Brantley, UM, and that was
it was a big ship. They're going one less picture,
so Brantley could come in very very useful. I mean,

(02:00:59):
my col Brantley, super super talent, have been outmost a
year with an injury. So we'll see. If Michael Brandley replays,
it could be the d h for the Indians for
the rest of the day today. One other baseball note,
Diamondbacks and Dodgers will play to in l a Diamondbacks
coach Aerial Preto find for wearing that apple watching the
dugout that we talked about yesterday. That fine will be
donated to Hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. But Major League

(02:01:21):
Baseball did hand down a fine for wearing that Apple Watch.
He looked fine with it, right, you like the look
of it. I like, I like an Apple I have
an Apple Watch. I was critical of apple Watch one.
I was like, why would anybody buy an apple Watch
other than to be a dB, you know? And then
I saw apple Watch two and my friends hadn't said
it's super useful. And then I got an apple Watch.

(02:01:41):
I'm all in an apple Watch. Nowine in an apple
Watch three. I'm gonna have an apple Watch collection. I
was a Swatch Watch kid as a friend as a kid.
Now I'm an Apple Watch, guys, an adult. Next question, Okay,
well this is how the answer. The Titans are gonna
have Marcus Mariota as a game time decision for their
game against the Dolphins and was one of your picks.
But if you want Marcus Mariotta to start for your

(02:02:03):
fantasy team, you're gonna have to wait until about ninety
minutes prior to the game against the Dolphins on Sunday
because of that hamstring saw Sam Bradford uh but said
he felt he felt much better. And of course they
don't play until Monday Night. Told you about time on
Garmery being doubtful for the Packers. Packers have another injury.
That's Davante Adams. We know that he's in concussion protocol

(02:02:26):
but considered questionable to play against the Cowboys, but he
won't be a game time decision, Doug. That's because Mike
McCarthy has stated that Adams must pass concussion protocol before
the team leaves for Big D tomorrow, So Adams, they'll
find out about his status at least twenty four hours
before they're gonna take on the Cowboys. I think he played.
I think he'll magically pass concussion proticle magically. Um, how

(02:02:48):
about this note from the NBA, the sacrament O King say,
rookie forward Harry Giles is gonna be held out until
January as he tries to build strength that is surgically
repaired knees. Yeah he I What I was told was,
you know, he's had a couple of surgeries on his
knees and the one of the surgeries was not done correctly.
I think they're gonna have to go back in and

(02:03:08):
redo the whole thing towards veniscus and meniscus in that knee. Um.
All that said, like, I know he's a great kid
in immense talent in terms of potential when he looked
lost last year, and I just I felt like it
was a wasted pick. When it was made, I felt
like it was one of those feel good deals, but
I just felt like a waste to take him late

(02:03:29):
second round. Don't take him where they took him. And unfortunately,
I think I've been proven right. In the final one,
I mentioned the US men's national soccer team taking on
Panama tonight tomorrow. We mentioned the Big Blue Crew match,
but apparently Doug it's gonna be a silent Saturday for
John Ramos who soccer team. I don't know what that means.
Saturday means coaches can't say anything. They don't say they

(02:03:51):
do it so the parents, No, parents don't yell or
say anything at games. Kids just play. It's actually a
really good idea backing out there and pressed that was
the press. It's really gonna like the kids want to
be coached, but parents coaches, they go overboard. So yeah, Dan,
you'll if people have had kids that know like silence
Saturdays is it's really eerie to go where all you

(02:04:11):
can hear is the girls or the boys playing and
the referee talking to him and nothing else. No one
else is supposed to say anything. It's like a library.
John Romos can't mess anything up as well, Right, Nope,
they cannot take credit for a win or a loss.
You can take credit for winn, John, No, no question,
Uh all right. Dangel Williams enjoined us mounday will recap

(02:04:32):
the baseball, the college football, the pro football. Enjoy the weekend.
