Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Boom, What Up America, Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to you live and
direct from the City of Angels. Seventies Sixers are in town.
Who would have thought? People are fired up about the
Sixers and the Lakers tonight at Staples. Everyone in l
a matter of fact, everyone nationally talking about U c
l A, the u c l A three, who have
(00:22):
yet to pe a drop in a u c l
A uniform. But President Trump bringing back bringing back the hostages,
that's what he's being champion like. He brought back the
Iran Iran hostages from the nineteen eighties. But we're gonna
talk about it. It is fascinating. What do you do
if you're Steve Alford, if you're Dan Garrel, Steve Alford
coach u c l A, Dan Garo, athletic director at
(00:44):
u c l A, what do you do? Um. We'll
get to all of that, but I want to start
with uh interesting story coming out of Buffalo. Buffalo, the
Buffalo Bills spelled with full or else to those of
us who remember history, Yes they got the four straight
(01:04):
Super Bowls. Yes they took els in all four of
those Super Bowls, and they have the longest consecutive streak
of not making the playoffs currently in the NFL. Even
the Browns have made the playoffs more recently than the Bills.
Mm hmm. So let's check in with Sean McDermott. Okay,
this was after the game on let me see after
(01:28):
the game on Sunday, he said, uh, in kind of
Lovey Smill when Lovey Smith was the head coach of
the Chicago Bears. He's like, Race gross was my quarterback.
Over that they get to the Super Bowl and there're
still questions about whether or not Rex Grossman should be
the quarterback. Well over the the after the game and
(01:50):
up until today. Today is Wednesday, right, So first first
couple of days. I after the game in which they
were blasted by the New Orleans Saints, Sean McDermott had
his quarterback, Tyrod Taylor's back. Tyrod Taylor's my quarterback, doesn't
turn the football over. He's a leader. Um, let's check
(02:13):
in with Sean McDermott. Asked to who the starting quarterback
of the Bills is. This is about becoming a better team,
and Tyrod has made improvements, has made a significant contribution
to our team, and I remain confident in Tyrod moving forward. Um,
this is not an indictment on Tyrod. He's an important
part of our football team and will continue to be
(02:34):
an important member of our football team moving forward. Do
you know what Tyrod is not? He is not the
starting quarterback this weekend of the Buffalo Bills. All right,
this is the man. This I do believe Sean McDermott
did the it's not you, It's me on National TV.
This is not an indictment on Tyrod Taylor. I still
believe in Tyrod Taylor. Thy Rod Taylor is still very
(02:57):
important as a leader of this team. Is Tyrd Taylor starting? U? No?
He is not. You are beautiful, you are wonderful, you
are incredible. I still believe that you are the right
person for me. Are we still together? No? We are not.
And like straight face doing it, it was kind of
remarkably like wait, what what what? What? What just happened?
(03:25):
What in the heck just happened? Um, look, let's get
to the story behind the story. We talked about this
all the time. You have to have a rabbi in
the room, somebody who believes in you, somebody who was
there the day you were drafted, or the day you
were acquired, or if you are to be acquired for
(03:45):
a free agent on the market, somebody who believes in you,
saw you achieve, helped you achieve some great success. That's
where you should go because they they've seen you perform
in the NFL, in the NBA, in Major League Baseball.
And remember Sean McDermott, And for the most part, he
is the president, general manager, and everything to this organization.
(04:06):
The general manager. He brought with him from Carolina, Carolina
Panthers where he came from. That's who drafted Nathan Peterman,
who's a fifth round pick. By the way, love his
dad's catalog. Love his dad's cat IM not sure about
the urban sombrero, but other than that, love his dad's catalog.
(04:27):
So Nathan Peterman, who none of us have ever heard of,
is the starting quarterback. By the way, um, Kellen Clemens
may well be the starting quarterback for the San Diego
Chargers the loan four o'clock game on Fox or l
A Chargers. Sorry, that's because Philip Rivers is coming out
of the concussion protocol. So what really happened, Well, there's
(04:51):
a couple of things. You have to know who Sean
McDermott is, right. He came up in the Andy Reid
school of coaching. He was he was underneath one of
the great defensive coordinators in the history of the NFL.
Jim Johnson was the legendary long time defensive coordinator, used
(05:14):
the architect behind those Eagles defenses that took Andy Reid's
team to what was it, five NFC Championship games and
one Super Bowl with Donovan mmcnabb. Right, but the defense
was a huge part of their success. Jim Johnson got sick,
Jim Johnson died. Sean McDermott took over. It was a disaster.
(05:37):
He goes to Carolina, becomes defensive coordinator, and two years
ago he was the architect of the best defense in
the NFL. They had only one loss in the regular season.
The second loss was in the Super Bowl. And I
will grant it. I will grant you that the whole
thing worked together. You had a great defense, you had
a great running game, Kim Newton had his best season,
(05:58):
and they played a soft schedule. Whatever it was, they
got to a Super Bowl. Now, last year the defense
fell off when Josh Dorman left as a free agent,
they changed the defensive backfield. McDermott was still the defensive coordinator.
Mcderman has since left. Now he's the brains behind the
Bills operations, which everybody thought they were gonna be tanking
this year when they started trading a way pieces acquired
(06:20):
by the previous regime Doug Whaley's regime, Rex Ryan's coaching staff.
And yet they were actually better than expected to start
the year, and so maybe they're not tanking. A couple
of things that are interesting. Carolina's defense is much better
this year, McDermott is not. There is there a correlation.
Maybe it's personnel not scheme. Uh. Secondly, the Buffalo Bills,
(06:48):
and this is really important, they allowed two hundred and
ninety eight yards rushing to the New Orleans Saints, prompting
all of us who pay attention to go, wait, did
Tyrod Taylor not tackle well enough as t back? Is
that why he got pulled? How much of this is
reaction to Tyrod Taylor, who, in a local newspaper interview
(07:10):
complained about the fact that because he's a black quarterback,
people talk about him like he's a running quarterback. Like
Tyrod Taylor is the only quarterback. Only person on earth
who doesn't understand he's an athletic running quarterback. Whether he's black,
whether he's white, with he's mixed race, whether he's Hispanic,
it doesn't matter. Tyrod Taylor runs it really, really well.
He's undersized, thus he's good out of the pocket. But
(07:31):
let's be honest, Tyrod Taylor has not been good. What's
crazy is they make a change now, which brings a
couple of possibilities to mind. The first is, it's a
great deceptive tactic. Deceptive tactic, right, don't pay attention to
how bad my defense has been and the fact that
we dumped Marcel Darius in order to get a draft pick.
(07:54):
Instead pay attention to the problems on offense. The second is,
and this is probably likely, you got a guy in
Peterman who you drafted, you believed in, and whatever you
heard from Tyrod Taylor in the meeting rooms in terms
of leadership and buying wasn't what you were looking for.
You want Tyrod Taylor, whether it was his fault or
not his fault, to act like what went wrong was
(08:16):
his fault, because that's what a quarterback does. And you
didn't hear it, and that's why the move is made.
And maybe the last possible possible explanation for this is
the Bills are really bad at tanking. It's possible like
we thought we wanted to tank, then we won a
(08:36):
couple of games, and then we decided we wanted to tank. Anyway, Look,
Tyrod Taylor as the second lowest completion percentage into tight windows.
He's an athletic quarterback with an erratic arm who's undersized,
and his contract is was terrible last year to get
out of and this year it's eight million dollars of
(08:58):
dead money. And they may want to walk away from me.
But if you're Sean McDermott and this is your first
head coaching job, and oh yeah, by the way, you're
also basically the president of operations and the GM, well
you better really really know the temperature of your locker
room if you're gonna make a change in this fashion.
It's not that they changed quarterbacks. It's that they said
(09:21):
they weren't going to change quarterbacks on Sunday, on Monday,
and on Tuesday and on Wednesday. They didn't just say
they're gonna change quarterbacks. He had the hutzpah. You don't
know what hits biss, definitely, audacity, nerve. They had the
balls to go, Hey, we love Tyrod Taylor. Tyrod Taylor
is a leader. Tyrod Taylor is important. It's Tyrod Taylor
(09:42):
starting quarterback. No, he's not. That takes hutzpah, gets it,
takes nerve, it takes bulls. If you're gonna do that,
you better know the locker room is gonna react positively.
Otherwise dudes are gonna shut down like man and and
Sean McDermott. He's he is playing for next year, or
(10:04):
he is playing only his guys are his guys, and
Peterman's his guy and Tyrod is not his guy. But
what a crazy situation from Buffalo, who, by the way,
is five and four. I don't know how they're five
and four, but we talked about this yesterday. I don't
know how the Saints are seven and two, or how
the Titans are six and three, or the Steelers, who
(10:24):
haven't even played that well this year, are seven and
two this year. It doesn't make any sense. Dania Jeremiah
makes some sense of it. The savant from the NFL

just called. He said he's uh stuck in a meeting.
I'm gonna get to us top of next hour. We'll
get his thoughts on the Buffalo bills with four els
with four l's upcoming. Um, I wanted to get to this.
(11:30):
I'm gonna get the U c l A stuff in
Uh on the other side of Dan Buyer. Okay, when
we'll get to the u c l A stuff. Dan
Buyer joins us about half past the hour gives us
the update. Here's some of the sound press conference u
c l A, etcetera, etcetera. Last night was the college
football rating a lot. Last night was an interesting college night, right, Yes,
the Boston Celtics one one again. We'll talk about that
later in the show. UM eight seven seven nine nine
(11:53):
on Fox. Is the phone number? What's the regular number? Guys?
I usually have the regular number in front of me,
but I don't eight seven seven six three six nine
eight seven seven three six nine. I guess here's my question.
If you're that this is you can call in and
share us your your thoughts. Eight seven seven nine nine
(12:13):
on Fox. What would you do if your U c
l A. What's the what's the right thing to do?
In terms of three freshman basketball players suspended indefinitely? But like,
what's the right length of suspension? How do you handle
offer up my thoughts on what's taking place and what
should take place and what the punishment should be in
(12:34):
ten minutes? But last night was a good college and
we had two basketball games and they were They're only
interesting because like, I'm not gonna sit here because I
love college basketball and tell you that college basketball is
always interesting. It's it's not. It's interesting to me, but
not to a big national audience. But last night you
have Duke taken on Michigan State, you have Kentucky taken
(12:54):
on Kansas. And if you thought the off season was
bad for college basketball, the regular season got off to
Austin inauspicious beginning, right. I mean, think about it. Marvin Bagley,
who's going to be the number one overall pick in
the draft, gets poked in the eye, only plays ten
minutes for Duke. So the one guy we really wanted
(13:15):
to see play for Duke barely plays for Duke. And
then in the nightcap, Kentucky looks like they got a
lot of something, but I'm not really sure what it is,
and neither did they. I just I do wonder what
have they actually been practicing, right, Like, what have they
(13:36):
because look, I was critical of Michigan State's off zone offense,
but they did have they had a plan against the zone.
I just think it's kind of our Kane. Their style
of attack is something that people have used for twenty
five years against the zone. But at least they were
prepared even for Duke. Would never played forty minutes solely
(13:58):
of zone since Maschowski has been head coach, but for
a college basketball season that the FBI probe. It has
this U c l A stuff, uh Rick Patino's fired
players suspended, then to have badly get poked in the eye.
Get Larry Curley and mode. Dude, do you guys know
(14:22):
Ramos knows what I'm talking about? I think Dan Buyer
does aloys younger than me music. Do you know what
I'm talking when I go, yeah, what um it is?
Oh my gosh, yeah, I am drawing a blank three stooges.
The three shooses names are well, there's Mo Curly and
(14:46):
then uh Larry and then there's also Shemp. Shemp. Yes,
it was you got Shemp. You know what you passed
you're supposed to do. You did go out of order?
It's Larry Curly Mo and then you at in chef
He's always Larry Curly Moo. But he got, he got,
he got, he got nono. He got poked in the eye.
(15:09):
And uh, I was the most college basketb Billy Preston,
who's the freshman stud for Kansas, doesn't play. Do you
guys see this story? He got into a one car
accident on campus shortly before, Like, this is not even
a three knucklehead U c l A freshman uh Go
five finger discount in China. It's the lead on CNN
(15:29):
local news. President Trump calls Billy Preston's a McDonald's all
American for Kansas. He gets into a one car accident
and the and the school releases a statement like until
we can more thoroughly identify who owns the car he
was driving, he will be suspended indefinitely. In other words, oops,
(15:53):
and that and that not good. That's not good at all.
But in between the two games, we had the college
football rankings for the college football playoff. And here's what
I tell people all the time about the n c
A tournament, and I will tell you the exact same
thing about the college football rankings that you can tell me.
(16:17):
It comes down to last ten games, strength of schedule,
road winds, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. But
you know what, it really comes down to what human
beings think. The human element, right, the human element screws
everything up because you know, socialism is a bad word
(16:42):
in this country, right for some people they say socialism
like whoa, whoa. But again, imagine a dream scenario, okay,
where everybody goes to work, everybody has a job. You
work as hard as you can at that job, knowing
the government's going to say of care of everything else, right,
(17:03):
like health, insurance, education, everything, everything's taken care of. Everybody's
got a job. You get your different jobs that you do, um,
but everything's just taken care of. Like that's the idea
of it, and you're like, well, that's kind of kind
of cool, kind of kind of cool. But the problem
is that people want to be recognized for the job.
I do a better job than he does, I should
(17:24):
make more money. Well, that's not how it works on
social That's because it's the human element and some people
are just lazy. Some people be along for the ride,
be like does it really matter. I'm still getting paid,
my kids are still getting their education. Like socialism in
in on paper in a textbook, like it actually works.
(17:46):
The problem is the problem with it is we want
to be recognized for being better than others. We want
to be rewarded as such, and we think there should
be a penalty for not giving it your awn. Not
everybody tries all that hard, they just don't. Well, that's
the exact same thing as the college football awards. I
(18:09):
mean the college football playoff system, like you can tell
me it comes down, Like Kirby hold cuts ahead of
the committee is like, well, you know, we're holding it
against Oklahoma because they lost to Iowa State. Like, hey, dummy,
Iowa State is actually good this year, actually pretty good.
They're not great, but they're pretty good. Un terrible, And
how can you compare that loss to Clemson losing to Syracuse.
They're like, well, Clemson lost their quarterback. Like okay, okay,
(18:35):
who's Clemson beaten? Well, they've beaten Auburn at home. Looks
like a better win now because Auburn just LAMB based
in Georgia, right, didn Oklahoma just be TCU? Oh? And
who have they beaten on the road? Well, Oklahoma's beat
Oklahoma State on the road and Ohio State on the road.
My best guess is that because Clemson has been in
(18:57):
the national championship hunt the past couple of years, because
they came through and one a national championship last year.
Because you have enough pundits on TV, like, dude, their
front seven is awesome, their defense is amazing. That even
though the results are Oklahoma has had better results, a
(19:17):
more difficult schedule, one tougher road games, and has a
less inferior not as high. I struggled with the superior loss,
but a less inferior loss. In spite of all that,
Clemson was ranked ahead of Oklahoma. It makes no sense
unless you're taking the count the human element, because at
(19:39):
the end of the day, you're supposed to take in
all these stats, but really you just vote your conscience.
That's what happens in the selection many for basketball, everybody's
got their own thing, like ooh, we got the ask curve,
we got to how that team get in? I thought
they were better than the other one. That's really what
it comes out. Yes, yes, So would you consider the
human element to be a bias? Then it's okay, So
(20:01):
this it's a bias, That's what it is. It's a
bias because the Big Twelve of scene and not play defense, right,
Like everybody a Big tell doesn't play defense. Like that's
interesting because TC was the best defensive team in the
Big Twelve and oh you had almost fifty and a
half against them, right, And that same Big Twelve defense
that sucked the week before and gave up fifty two
(20:21):
to Oklahoma State shut down Ohio State at Ohio State.
How does that work, and I'm not saying it. I'm
not saying Okahoma's defense is great. It's not. But the
offense is pretty good and the defense was good enough
to shut down Ohio State at Ohio State. Oh, they've
gotten better, They've gotten a lot better. They didn't get
better against Iowa. Right, I don't make any sense. So
(20:46):
the only explanation is the human element. Right. I think
therefore it is. That's why I voted that way. Let's
get to uh find out what else is going on
the world of sports. Tuesday in fire a lot of
news of the NFL. Doug First of all, the Buffalo
Bills are starting quarterback rookie need Peterman against the Chargers
on Sunday. He talked about this at the top, Tyrod
Taylor will go to the bench. Now Buffalo is five
(21:08):
and four with Taylor as the team starting quarterback asked
for his benching. Just disappointed that's one of the filings,
but definitely just disappointed. Like I said, I don't agree
with the decision, but awesimately coach McDermott and as a
vision for his team what he feels his best for
the team as well as the owners in gym so
I have to move forward to continue to be the
teammate and the deleted that I am from a different
(21:29):
role now. The Bills take on the Chargers on Sunday.
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is making progress from a kick cussion,
but as yet to be cleared completely from kick cussion protocol.
Has he make progress from throwing untimely interceptions? Um, that
seems to still be a problem. I look, I like
I I hold Philip Rivers in much higher regard over
the past couple of years than other people. But he
(21:51):
was bad last year and he's been bad and important
spots this year. Like it's a it's a like it's
a he has sucked when nobody has realized it sort
of thing. There was, Yeah, No, there was some talk
even at the end of last year, really specifically him
and Eli Manning of like, okay, is this the end
of the road for those two? See how they respond
in seventeen Maybe not much has changed to know, elis
(22:13):
in a tough situation, uh New York with nobody healthy
and nobody to block, but still case. Keenum is gonna
start for Minnesota against the Rams on Sunday. Teddy Bridgewater
will be the backup, but Fox Sports inCider Jake Glazer
said that the Vikings were really tempted to start Bridgewater,
but they are sticking with Keenum. Cardinals will reportedly start
blaying Gabbert Sunday against the Texans, even though it coach
(22:33):
Bruce Arians wouldn't commit to a starter today. Arkansas A D.
Jeff Long fired today after ten seasons, and the big
story the fire for one one reason, right, he gave
Brett Bilma contract. Yeah right, and they they Bret Bilma
a ton of money and he hired Brett Bilma, took
him away from Wisconsin. Everybody's like, you know that that
thing might work. It has not worked. And then he
doubled down on bad by give him a contract attention
(22:55):
when the Wolves were at the door and it's snowballed.
Now that had to pay Bilama like a hundred bajillion
dollars just to go away. And so they got rid
of They got rid of the a D so that
he can't be in a position to make another bad high.
The three U c l A Basketball players that were
charts with shoplifting in China have been suspended indefinitely. Le
(23:16):
Angelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hall. Suspending indefinitely is
Steve Alford. The Bruins said coach announced that today, Thanks Dan,
that's great stuff. Dan Buyer. You can hear top half
past the Hour. He joins the show periodically as well,
and I encourage you to listen to his show Sunday
Mornings here on Fox Sports Radio, which leads you up
to Fox NFL Sunday on their pregame show NFL and Fox. Uh.
(23:40):
He he mentioned the u c l A three. Does
anybody know how about this one? Ryan Music? Do you
know the name of the names of the other two
u c l A players arrested? And don't look it up?
Cody Riley and your Mall Hill. Jalen Hill. You know that,
(24:05):
Jalen Hills. It's interesting how many guys are named Jalen
and Shock now right. And there's some Kobe's as well,
but not as many, but Jalen and like, these are
names that no one had twenty like jail dudes. Every
how many people name their kids after Jalen Rose. That's
how cool Jalen Rose was. That's how cool Shack was.
(24:28):
But I mean go back and think twenty years ago,
and it's just it's interesting names that resonate, names that
don't resonate. Um and how many kids are named Jalen Now?
But anyway, Jalen Hill, Cody Riley, who are actually really
good basketball players. Jello Ball is not, but he's one
(24:51):
of the members of the Ball family. He is. What
Kardashian would he be like if? Um Courtney? Uh? Well, keet,
why because Courtney is fat and he's fat. No, Courtney
is not fat. Courtney was fat. Why didn't she know
which was the one that was that was with Lamar? Was? Um? Chloe? Yes? Yeah, okay,
(25:12):
so Chloe is okay, but boy way, I'm just I'm
just saying, so why Courtney and not not Chloe? I
I don't watch the Kardashians enough. I do know. I
do know which because because she's Courtney is the oldest one,
so he's not the oldest. Courtney was the one that
was was married to Scott. Correct, that's correct. Well, they
never were married. They weren't married. They never got She
wanted to get married and he he did not. They
(25:33):
were never married. No three children, no marriage. That's wrong.
Another wrong that I know. I know a couple of
people like that. Oh that they dont want to lose
half the stuff I got you. Where do I sign
up to lose half my stuff? Oh? Here? Ah? The marriage? Yeah,
no problem. Um okay, So which kardash you would Jello be?
(25:53):
Jello is the least talented the Jello though, looks the
most like his dad, Like he's built the most like
his dad. And when I say at least talent, to
keep in mind his brothers. A second pick of the
draft Lamello. Again, we don't know in terms of development
where he'll be, but seen as who's the youngest of
(26:14):
the Kardashians, Chloe is or Kim is. Chloe is the
youngest of the I know the first groups, first batch, right,
they're like they're like gremlins, I understand, like giving food
or water after midnight and all of a sudden there's more.
And then you have kind of the second batch. The
second way the Jenner's Um, yeah, I would say I
would say that's probably. I think I think he's more Chloe.
(26:39):
I think he's more Chloe, although Chloe doesn't look like
the mom that's anyway. Here's what Chloe or whatever Kardashian
Jello Ball said in talking to the media. Take a
listen to who he thanked for bringing him back from China. Sorry,
(27:00):
are stealing from the stores in China. I didn't exercise
my best judgment and I was wrong for that. I
apologize to my family, my coaches, my teammates, and U
c l A for letting so many people down. Also
apologize to the people in China for causing them so
much trouble. I would also like to thank President Trump
in the United States government for the help that they
provided as well. Ah okay, here's Steve Alford, head coach
(27:24):
of these three young men were being suspended indefinitely from
our program as we worked through the review process with
the university's Office of Student Conduct. During that indefinite suspension,
they will not travel with the team, nor will they
shoot up for home games. At some point, they may
be permitted to join team workouts, practices, and meetings, but
(27:46):
that timeline has yet to be determined. Alright, so we
we gotta figure out how bad this poop storm is.
Right before before we we we put them out there music,
let me ask you, you're the You're the only millennial
here on this show. Uh, what would what would you do?
I think that they can't be on the team anymore
(28:06):
going forward? Why is that? I think it's one thing
if you get caught stealing. I think it's an entirely
different situation if you get caught stealing in a foreign
country and the actual president of the United States has
to do some international diplomacy to make sure you get
home safely. Do you think he actually had to do
some diplomacy to get him on safe I think so. Yeah.
(28:28):
I I don't know if it was entirely necessary, but
I do think that it was implemented to ensure that
they weren't kept there for an extended period of time. Okay,
um Ramos, you are a father, Give me your sense
of what you think the appropriate punishment would be. Geez,
that's a tough one. I mean I've gone back and
(28:49):
forth kicking him off the team entirely or just suspending
them and definitely what is it? Definitely means what until
they end the review process then they may be able
to come back after that? Is that what you would
consider the indefinite to be de only means whatever you
wanted to be. Uh yeah, I'm okay with suspension and
definitely until they reviewed. I don't know if I kicked
him off the team. So how many games would it be?
How many games in the season? Half the season? H rama?
(29:18):
What about you, Dan Buyer, what would you say that
the appropriate U? Why, well, U c l a play
seven awful teams in their next game. Okay, you're taking
that into caupit. Okay, yeah, so I did. So if
you like, have him miss a couple of good nonconference games,
or have them miss good nonconference games, it shows that
(29:38):
you have value in it. But I think ten is
a good number. I also think that maybe we shouldn't
look at that had happened in China, if it happened
in the States, if he they stole something on campus,
what would the penalty be? And so I think that
ten games. I don't think kicking him out entirely or
banning him for the year, Um, he's warranted. But so
(29:58):
I say, okay, um, I'm more inclined to say five games.
To say five games, and you're like, oh, that's so,
it's just Look, it's embarrassing, and they embarrassed themselves. The
university held the Pact twelve College Basketball and the Black
afric College Basketball. Look, I love college basketball. That does
(30:19):
not help, does not help it it's bad for the brand. Um,
it's bad for the brand that is the big Balder
brand is bad for the brand that is U c
l A Basketball. But I don't believe it should be
a death sentence. I just don't. Um. Now, look, if
(30:40):
your music ran music says, hey kick him off the
team and they can be students at u c l A.
Which is what you have to do. By the way,
while on scholars like you could do that. I do
think here's the crazy thing. I said this yesterday that
if it happened, if if jello ball doesn't a like,
that's it's an easy way for them to wash their
(31:02):
hands of Jelly Bault. The problem is that one the
other two kids are more talented and they do need them.
And I think you're severely handicapping uh, Steve Olford's ability
to have have a good team, have a competitive team.
I think I think it hurts their teammates enough. But like, look,
I just think the big thing is the ball thing
(31:22):
made it bigger. President Trump made it bigger. It was
a big deal. And they have every gym they walk
into in the pack twelve, they will be made fun of,
humiliation galore. And I don't think it's a crime that
rises to the level of expulsion or kicking you off
(31:43):
the team. I just don't. I think I think there
this is a two strikes more than one sort of crime.
But I don't think it's three strikes and you're out
when it's really your first strike. I just I just don't.
It is in fact stupid college stuff. It is, in
fact shoplifting. It's embarrassing. But I wouldn't throw the baby
(32:08):
out with the bathwater just because the president chose to
get himself involved. Yes, right now, when I say they're
kicked off the team, my thought process is that it's
not that they should be banned from playing college sports
or anything. If you're the basketball program, you're essentially saying
your punishment is we can't have you represent our team anymore.
(32:31):
So if we release you from our team, if another
school is willing to let you rebuild your reputation, then
that's the path you have to take. But we can't
associate you with U c l A Basketball anymore. Look, look,
it's a very hardline stance, and I would understand it.
I think it's reasonable. Stealing is stealing. Jeremy Anderson, who
(32:54):
was a foremer point guard at U C l A.
He stole a laptop, he got a game. I thought
that was light at the time. Obviously that was different
head coach um at a different time and a different
sort of crime. But I think what we have a
tendency to do. We have a tendency to do, is
we react so much to the reaction instead of just
(33:14):
catching our breath and looking at the actual crime. No woman,
no man, no child, no animal was harmed in this incident.
Reputations were hurt, reputations were but just like, here's the
crazy part about it, Like, do you think this reflects
(33:35):
poorly on Steve Alford? I don't. I don't like Steve
Alford didn't tell them to not steal stuff. They should
have known to not steal stuff. What's funny is like
we're like, well, this looks bad for you, Sailey basketball,
Like it does, but should it? Right? Should It wasn't
(33:57):
like this is grand larceny. Wasn't like they stole the car,
you know when like they went and did you know
when Lane Kiffin was at at U c L at
at Tennessee, Remember you had a couple of guys hold
up a shell station in Tennessee, football sweats. How'll they
ever catch them? I don't know, right, Um like that
(34:21):
to me strikes me as a far different and more
egregious crime than this, And it's petty theft. They're very
fortunate that they played for U C. L A. To
do it overseas is really, really stupid. I agree with you,
but man, they're going to be humiliated plenty every time
they go on the road every time, and considering a
(34:43):
reasonable five ten games is reasonable. I think fifteen games
a bit unreasonable. But you can also do fifteen and
be willing to dial it back. But she basically put
them on a no tolerance policy. Hey, this was stupid.
If you're great, slip, you're done. Your attitude lips, we're done.
If any there's any sort of off the court nonsense,
(35:04):
you're done. But you have made a fool out of yourselves,
that of your family and your friends. I'm sure you
feel terrible. You should, but I don't. I don't believe
they should lose the chance to get a world class
education because of something stupid like this. Chris Paul is
back for the Houston Rockets. That real news or fake news?
(35:25):
I'll tell you next sleep on a Casper and you'll
pick it over every mattress you've ever had. Test it
yourself for a hundred nights risk free. Go to Casper
dot com, use the code Gottlieb g O T T
L I EB and you could save seventy five dollars.
That's Casper dot Com. Code is Gottlieb. Minimum purchase requires
CEA styper details. Terms of conditions apply. Doug Gotlip Show,
(35:47):
Fox Sports Radio, Daniel Jeremiah Jonas the top of the hour,
let's quickly get to a game. This is game time
on the Doug Gottlieb Show. What do you got for me?
Dan Buyer? Today, Doug, we have got a game called
real News Fake news. Alright, real news are fake news.
(36:07):
The Houston Rockets are finally getting point guard Chris Paul
back this week from his knee issues, and they're spectacular.
That is correct. Chris Paul will return Thursday against the
Phoenix Suns. According to head coach Mike D'Antoni, he could
play about twenty minutes or so. After he's missed fourteen
games because of that sore knee. That's huge as they
(36:28):
try to integrate him into this offense and figure out
how he fits. Can he play without the basketball? Can
they use him and have have James Harden play without
the basketball. It's gonna take some time. They may actually
take a step back before they take a step forward.
Second best team in the West right now with a
record of eleven and four, behind only the Golden State Warriors,
And of course these Celtics have the best record in
(36:49):
the NBA. I'm moving on to the NFL. Real news
are fake news? Cardinals said coach Bruce Arians thinks that
the recent quarterback playing Gabbert has struggled during his career
is because he's been on and I'm quoting bleepy teams,
but I had to clean it up a little bit
end quote. Um, yeah, but isn't he part of the
reason he's been on bleepy teams? Like if this, if
(37:12):
we would all agree, this is a pretty good Jaguars
team and he's still bad. Are you still blaming bad
teams in the past, Like there's a flaw in that argument.
So you believe that Bruce Arians did say that today, Uh,
that's real news. Yet they're spectacular. Yes, that's he actually
did say that. That was an exact quote, Um, a
(37:34):
quick bite and of course we have to clean it
up here. But that was Bruce arians explanation and why
blame Gabbert um maybe hasn't excelled as much. Blame Gabert
may get the start against the Texans on Sunday, according
to our report from Arizona Sports dot Com. He will,
but Arian says he'll name a starter Friday. Drew Stanton's
got a sore knee, a spring knee, so the decision
between gabertt or Drew Stanton will come. Look, there's a
(37:54):
lot of there's a lot of football guys that like
Blaine Gabbert, they're just are There's a lot of football
guys that even Phil Sims told me last year he
was playing good football, just on a bad San Francisco
forty Niners team. But he's part of the reason that
he's been on bad teams. Real news are fake news,
Doug when asked about coaching again, current Monday Night football
analyst John Gruden said, quote, he is done period end quote.
(38:21):
He said that, yes, is that real news are fake
fake you are fake news. Yeah, that is correct. He
actually said you never say never. When he was appearing
on ESPN Radio talking about coaching, had a long answer,
saying that he hasn't spoken with anybody about any coaching
jobs of course connected with Tennessee, but ended with the
you never say never to nothing. Um, yeah, I actually
(38:43):
agree you never say never. I hate though that it
never say never is a cliche. But yes, real news
are fake news. Marlin's owner Derek Jeter says if there
is one thing they need to do this offseason, it's
trade Gihan Carlo Stanton. You are fake news. Yeah, you're
right about that. Jeter still hasn't take or spoken with
the slugger, but says that his baseball people have talked
(39:03):
with Stanton and it's their job to. Jeter said that
while they have financial issues to deal with, it is
in a foregone conclusion that Stanton won't be back next season. Yeah.
I don't think stan will be back next season. I
just don't think Derek Jeter would. The fact that he
hasn't spoken to him, it's just weird. Yeah, just real
news are fake news. Doug in Earth, Carolina, woman hit
(39:24):
two jackpots on lottery tickets in one day. The good
work shell shuffler won ten tho dollars on a scratcher
in the state, then her and her husband driving along
the highway. Feeling lucky, bought another one two miles away
and won one million dollars. But she did not take
the lump some, Doug. She took the twenty installments of
(39:44):
fifty thousand dollars a year for that million dollar payout.
You're supposed to take the lumps some, but hey, there's
something to always go into the mailbox and get that
check every month. This is game time on The Duck
Godly Show. Daniel Jeremiah joins his show. Up coming next,
what the hell happened in Buffalo that Tyrod Taylor got
benched after not being benched previously? Find out next in
(40:06):
the Doug Gotlip Show, What up to Gottlip Show? Fox
sparts Radio. U c l A three is back. They
are suspending definitely and they thanked President Trump for help
and bring them back from China. What we said back
in return? He's supposed to be Mr Trade deficit guy? Right, Like,
if we bring back three u c l A players
(40:27):
who had not played a minute yet, what do we
have to send back in return? I'm just I'm intrigued.
I'm intrigued. H listen, We'll give you LaVar ball full time.
You just give us the three kids. Anyway, more on that.
Give you my thoughts on the Celtics. Some people are
down on the Celtics winning streak. Ah, I think the
(40:51):
Celtics winning streak is about one thing and it's not
just about winning games. We'll get to that upcoming. But
let's talk some football, shall we. I would say the
news the day is the strange stuff going on in Buffalo.
Buffalo was and looked. They were at one point five
and two, and you're like, wait, are they gonna be good?
(41:12):
They trade Will trade away Marcel Darius, which kind of
reinforced the idea of getting rid of Doug Whaley and
Rex Ryan's players to load up for this upcoming year's draft.
But the problem is they're sitting there in position to
at least compete for the playoffs. They got embarrassed at
home by the New Orleans Saints, who traditionally are a
(41:33):
bad road team, and they got run over by the
New Orleans Saints, who are traditionally are a bad running team. Granted,
the Saints have run the ball well, but not two
yards on the ground well. Tyrod Taylor has been playing well,
but Sean McDermott had his back said he's the starting
quarterback for the last couple of days until today when
he said, this is about becoming a better team, and
(41:54):
Tyrod has made improvements. He has made a significant contribution
to our team, and I remain confident in Tyrod moving forward. UM,
this is not an indictment on Tyrod. He's an important
part of our football team and will continue to be
an important member of our football team moving forward. What
could it not possibly be if not an indictment on
Tyrod Taylor. Let's welcome in Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL network. UM,
(42:17):
I know that Tyrod is not his guy. I know
that they did draft Peterman. On paper, Tyrod's numbers are decent.
Ten touchdowns, three interceptions. He doesn't throw interceptions. He's good
out of the pocket, probably better out of the pocket
than in the pocket. If this isn't an indictment on
Tyrod Taylor, what is it? Well, I think when you
watch Tyrod, the one thing you haven't seen is you know,
(42:38):
I just don't think he's fitting up well in the hole.
I don't think he's he's getting off blocks and making tackles,
So obviously that's you. That's that. Uh, friends, that's what's
known as sarcasm. Well it was sarcasm. Tyrod Taylor plays
offense their defense, which, by the way, Sean McDermott is
is the architect of the defense, right, He's a defensive guy.
(42:58):
There's a Jim Johnson guy who filled alphee. He was
bad when he was their defensive coordinator. He was good
two years ago with Carolina, he was bad last year
with Carolina. Like, is this simply to deceive us and
take our attention away from how bad the defense is?
Is that what this is? I don't know what it is, Doug.
It's just bizarre. I mean, the one thing I could
think of is, Okay, we are getting ready to enter
into a full blown rebuild, and we don't think Tyrod
(43:21):
is going to be the guy that can eventually get
us a championship, which is the ultimate goal. So we're
going to We're gonna go ahead and see what we
have in Peterman, see if he could potentially be that guy,
which I don't really see him being that guy, and
I would imagine they'll probably jump with both feet into
the quarterback market in this next draft. It's just it's
absolutely so tell me about Nathan Peterman. Okay, other than
(43:43):
I mean, like, look, I gotta tell you. I remember
Pittsburgh last year did have a high powered offense. A
matter of fact, the offense was so well regarded that
Matt Canada got a job with l s U. I
think he's the highest paid assistant in college football. So
he has an NFL. People loved Pittsburgh's offense. So he's
not alone. He's not alone and paying attention to Peterman,
(44:04):
but he's a fifth round pick being thrown into the fire. Yeah, well,
the good news is I mean, the comparison was when
you watched him, Um, a lot of us had used
it was was Kirk Cousins, And we've seen Cousins obviously
come in as a mid round pick and develop into
a really, really good football player. Peterman's got a real
quick release. It's kind of a different offense they ran
there with Canada with a you know a lot of
(44:25):
shovel shovel passes and and uh and quick rhythm throws.
But he's very accurate. He's got a nice quick stroke
and he can make all the throws. So um, you know, look,
he's got a chance. I just don't know that to me,
it's not even It's really not about Peter Man. Just
I didn't think the Tyrod was playing all that bad.
I thought he was playing good enough for them to
win football games. I didn't think he was the issue.
So it's just kind of odd. But don't you run
(44:48):
the risk of losing the locker room this way? Right? Like,
if if you come in, I mean, I guess the
opposite is you come you run the risk of of have,
you know, scaring the hell out of everybody, Right, if
Tyrod looked twice at you, you got But don't you like,
if Tyron is not playing that bad, the defense is
playing bad, and you hook Tyrod and you throw a
rookie out there and he's not ready. And while San
Diego record wise isn't good, they got two nasty defense
(45:10):
events that are going to get after you in Melvin
Ingram and Joey Bosa. Like, don't you run the risk
of kind of uh losing that locker room? Yeah? I mean,
I think you always have two different groups. You have
a group of guys that are kind of thinking of
long term and they're gonna be a part of the process.
But you also have a group of veteran guys that realize, hey,
we've got a chance to go to the post season
right now, and these opportunities are few and far between,
(45:32):
and they've been very few and far between and Buffalo,
so to have that opportunity now and if they feel
like you're making a move that doesn't serve you know,
your interests for right now, Yeah, you can lose some
veteran guys with that. The New Orleans Saints uh smacked him.
They're seven and two and they're doing it running the football,
and they're also doing with a lot more short, short
(45:52):
and midrange passing more so than throwing the football down
the field. Um, is this simply a case of their
schedules was weak or are they really one of the
better teams in the NFL. Well, they've kind of quietly
built a really good offensive line. Um, you know, get
Armstead is one of the best guys out there that
doesn't He's made some Pro Bowls, but he doesn't really
get mentioned, you know with the Joe Thomas is in
the world. But he is really really good. Larry Warford
(46:14):
came over in free agency. They've they've got a nice
job of building up that front and they've got a
stable backs with different skill sets, and I think they've
thrown the ball to the backs in the league, so
the backfield and given easy completions and making things happen.
So they're they're a balance football team. And they've they've
spent so many resources on defense, you cooks, you know,
(46:39):
last pick um. They they've tried to load up on
that side, and they've hit on some dudes. Marshawn Lattimore
is playing out of his mind, and they got a
lot faster on that side of the ball. So you're
so you're a buyer. Yeah, absolutely. I think this is
what Sean Payton's has been trying to do for a
long time and and finally now he's got it where
he can take some of the pressure off his quarterback
(47:00):
have balance. Doug Gottlib show Fox Board Trader that's the
voice of Dania Jeremiah also has an outstanding podcast with
Bucky Brooks. You can see him on the NFL Network.
The Dallas Cowboys could not block one guy. There were
other issues there, but they couldn't block one guy. And
while they said, like, look we chipped him, we let
the lineback. We had the running back there, we had
the tight end there. Like, I can't put all the
(47:23):
blame on Chaz Green, can I No? No. I mean
he's a look, he's he's overmatched, no question, but you've
got to give him help. And you gotta get some
help from your quarterback too, just in terms of climbing
up in the pocket and getting away from some of that.
I mean, you're the biggest thing as a tackle is hey,
just don't get beat inside. If you get beat outside quickly, Um,
he still has some room to climb up and get away.
(47:44):
It just don't get beat inside, and you've got no shot.
And a lot of those a lot of those rushes
were over the top or outside rushes where your quarterbacks
gotta help you out a little bit there. So there's
a plenty of blame to go around. But I mean,
if nothing else, it was a good day for Tyrann
Smith's agent, very good day for Tyron Smith's agent and
a good and and you know, over on the other side,
you've got a guy who could end up collecting a
(48:05):
huge bonus because of it. Um Steelers are seven and two,
so I guess that's good. But I mean they're down
seventeen three to the Colts. They struggle to put away
the Colts, Like, I mean, shouldn't they be hitting on
more cylinders by now? Yeah, I don't know how good
the Steelers are, um, but you know the only thing
(48:26):
winners win and losers lose. Like those are games that
if you take a team like the Browns, the Browns
find themselves and those types of games all the time,
but they can't win any of them. And the Steelers eymore,
it's just so ugly and you leave, you don't even
have a good taste in your mouth. But they, you know,
they get a win and they're what's seven and two?
So I mean, they just find ways to win some
of these ugly games. I don't think they're built to
(48:47):
last in the in the postseason. I don't know if
Ben's playing at high enough level for them to get
where they want to go right now. So I mean,
that's that's kind of the point that I made, which
is like we keep looking around for all these other problems.
He isn't a good portion of the issue that maybe
Ben Roethlisberger doesn't have it anymore. They've got dudes open.
I mean, like you take you compare the Dallas when
(49:09):
you watch Dallas, I always like to freeze the tape
when you're watching it when a quarterback gets to the
top of this drop and just see what he's looking
at and see how much separation you're getting. I think
gets a ton of separation with that group of receivers.
There's some easier throws out there, whereas Dallas is is
very slow, methodical, and you've gotta you gotta thread the
needle on Darnier every completion. Yeah, I mean, that's the
(49:31):
fall off of Dez Bryant and UH, to a greater extent,
Jason Witt and obviously Age, But that has been I
felt like it's been wildly under reported that that's just
kind of the way I look at it. Uh. Tennessee
is six and three, and I can't figure out if
there are any good at all, can you. No, it's
gonna be fun to watch, though, with him in Jacksonville
coming down the second half. I think the jack schedule
(49:53):
is pretty friendly, So if I was gonna guess, I
would probably lean more action. But yeah, no, you don't
no exactly what you're gonna get with Tennessee on a
weekly basis. I do like the fact that they're using
a dory Jackson on offense, and I think you should go.
I talked about the stinks under their backs Titans. I
think they might have been dead last in the league,
been and throwing to the run backs. They've got two pounders.
(50:15):
You almost need a you know, it's like a basketball team.
You gotta have different sizes and different skill sets. They
didn't really have a different skill set. And I think
getting the Dorry Jackson involved and giving him kind of
a big place threat screen draw, you know he's going
to have an impact there. The Vikings have at least
talked about case Keenum case Keenum losing his job to
Teddy Bridgewater. He's still going to remain the starter as
(50:37):
of now. Um. I feel like he's playing well and
he's good in their offense, and maybe the image of
Teddy Bridgewater is a lot better than the actual production
of Teddy Bridgewater even before he tore his knee. Why
would they be considering a change. Well, I think it's
the respect they have for Teddy. Um, you know, I
think it's it's you got hurt lean. Up to that
(51:00):
point he had he had really improved at pretty high level.
But I think more than the outfits should take we believe.
We want to. We want to let Teddy know and
the team know that we believe in him long term.
And that's why you're seeing this been thrown around. But
I'd be shocked if they're winning games in case, gadoms
playing solid football. You don't change that up. I would,
I would agree with you. Daniel Jeremiah check out his
podcast with Bucky Brooks. Check him out of the NFL network.
(51:23):
But when he joins us here on the Doug Gotlib Show,
great stuff, d J. Thanks so much for joining us.
All right, uh, the Doug Gotlib Show. We'll take a
look at taking a buffalo, get some local perspective on
what in the hell is going on. Take it to
Boston where the Celtics have a thirteen game winning streak.
Thirteen game winning streak. All that up coming next. But first,
you've heard me talk about my amazing shave that I

got some cabbage up top, still got some lettuce up top.
I even use their butt wipes because you know everybody

don't pretend to know everything, alright, sometimes as we do,
but um, we know a lot of stuff. And when
we don't, we find people that we don't know everything.
But we know people that know what you want to know.
(53:10):
You know, it sounds like you meet a guy. I
got a guy Doug got Leave Show, Fox Sports Radio. Uh.
Adam Himble's box covers the Celtics beat for the Boston Globe.
He joins us on the Doug got Leave Show. And
(53:33):
the Celtics have won thirteen games in a row. Thirteen
games a row. And it's crazy because this is through
Al Horford missing some games, through Kyrie Irving getting a
broken face and oh yeah, by the way, they're big
offseason signing broke his leg in the first quarter, right.
(53:56):
I mean, it's kind of remarkable. What's happened, Adam, Um,
what's been most impressive about the Celtics winstring? Yeah, I
mean some pretty wild the things you just went through.
I mean, Marcus Morris, another guy they are going to
count on pretty extensively, missed the start of the season
as well. Marcus Smart missed a few games, but they're
just kind of finding a way. And look, they spent
(54:17):
a couple of games they easily could have lost Marta
Roz and missed a shot he's made a trillion times
that would have beat them. But they're they're finding way
and they just have such balance that they've had some
misses the last few years, kind of like with draft
picks and some signings, guys towards the end of the
bench you didn't really contribute. But this year, like everything
Danny Age did hit aside from the obvious, like you know,
(54:40):
the Kyrie Irving of the world, but like these these
role player guys like Aaron Baines, Daniel Tye, Shane Larkin,
guys are a casual fan wouldn't be familiar with at all,
but they're all playing really well so far. Yeah, it's
it's very impressive. Look, Kyrie has a reputation as a great,
great score, but a guy who loves to pass and
(55:02):
not a guy who likes to play defense. How has
he passed? How has he played defense during this win streak.
He's really been a distributor more than a lot of
people thought he would be so far. I think part
of that was him just wanting to find his way. Um.
I remember Terry Rosier said about a week ago, He's like,
you know, we we all kind of had to adapt
(55:25):
Kyrie and learn his way. And we told Kyrie that
about what Terry said, and Kyrie kind of laughed. He
was like, man, I had to learn how to play
with these guys like this. I didn't want to come
in here in an Afric all of a sudden, this
like has to be my team. You guys felt me
like I wanted to learn and do this together. Of course,
he wants to be the leader, but I think he
really put an emphasis on trying to get people involved.
And you've seen a few times this season where he'll
(55:47):
have a clear shot that you know it could be
two points, but he gives it to the more open
shot for two, which some people may not have expected
out of him. And his defense has been solid um
for a little while, leading the NBA and Eels. But
the thing is, when you're in this system like this
has been an elite defense so far, it's the best
defense and the NBA by far, like there several points
(56:08):
ahead of the thunder Um. When you kind of around
other players who are who are a guarding and being
a system that works, it's gonna make you look like
a better defender as well. Is there any chance Cording
Hereward comes back this year? Um? I don't think so,
but you know that it's a long season, right, Like
it's November now, so all indications are that he's out.
(56:30):
But really we have no clue on what the healing
process will be like, what the rehab will be like.
Of course he's you know boot now, he's been shooting
shots out of a chair and and wants to get back.
But I think they're moving forward as if he will
not be here. And if something happened to change because
recovery somehow is accelerated, that would be a surprise. But
I think they're gonna be also careful not to brush
(56:51):
him back, um and think more long term with his
health there. Uh. Look they also they look they still
have draft picks that you know, they have the rights
of the Brooklyn pick up next year, could have the
Lakers pick, uh if it falls into a certain spot.
So they and they still have young players and assets
they could move. Um, is there a point to which
they go, you know what, we don't have Gordon Haywood.
(57:13):
But we're gonna go for it anyway. I mean, it
always depends what's out there. I think, Look, Danny Ainge
has made no secret in ownership of mine, they're going
for championship. This is a team that's like, oh, like,
we'd like to be the best team in the East.
If there's if there's a deal out there that would
make them closer to winning a championship, I think they
go for it. I mean, that's what you saw with Kyrie,
(57:34):
That's what they're thinking was. But you wouldn't see I
don't think is like them going after like an expiring deal,
like you know, like a star wish of epteran player
on expiring deal to try to go now. I don't
I wouldn't see them doing that because they've been really
careful about not sacrificing their future because, like you mentioned,
like they have this bright future. They got Jaylen Brown,
they have Jayson Tatum who right now looks like he'll
he's gonna be an All Star someday. They have these
(57:55):
future draft picks, like it'll be like at the Lakers
pick this year, it falls two through five. If it
doesn't fall on that, look at the King's pick next year,
which will also be a very high tech Avons is
not number one overall, so they've got plenty of assets
still stocked up along with these young players. Great stuff.
Adam Himmel's back from the Boston Globe covering the Boston Celtics,
who have the best record in the NBA. They've won
(58:16):
thirteen consecutive games, and they've done so through injury and tribulation.
And thanks so much for joining us. Oh thanks, I
gotta Jays Kirski is our guy in Buffalo. He works
with the Buffalo News, covers the Buffalo Bills, and he
will explain to us, to the world, what did Tyrod
Taylor do so wrong from yesterday to today that he
(58:37):
could go from still the starter to love him still leader,
not the starter. Yeah, that's uh what we've all been
trying to wrestle with today and and sort of figure out.
I mean, I don't think, uh, it would be a
stretch to say that we were Florida. Uh, you know,
we started to hear some rumblings of this, uh this morning,
(58:57):
shortly before Sean McDermott's press conference. Um, yeah, about nine
thirty this morning, Sean McDermot confirmed that that they are
going to bench Tyrod Taylor and replace him with Nathan Peterman,
a rookie fifth round draft picked out of Pitt who
has not had any meaningful playing time yet this season,
got in, uh just this past weekend for his first
action at all against the Saints and sort of mop
(59:18):
up duties. So, yeah, this is a big you know,
this is a big move. It's a bold move by
Sean McDermott, and it's one that I think it is
fair to say, caught most everyone by surprise. Um, was
it Tyrod Taylor's lack of tackling for him? You know,
they gave up two yards on the on the ground.
I mean, I guess you can't. You can't pull the
entire defense. You take the quote, Well, let's let's start
(59:40):
with the defense. McDermott is a defensive guy, comes from
the Jim Johnson system back in Philadelphia and I and
I understand they trade away some pieces for the future,
But what can be done to fix the faulty defense? Yeah,
that's a great question because it's not like, you know,
it's injuries or anything like that that you can point to.
I mean, they've had their guys out there. It's been
(01:00:01):
a pretty healthy football team. And for the last two
weeks in particular, for whatever reason, the run defense UH
in general has just been atrocious. And you're right, I
mean it reminds me of last season. You know, this
team starts owing two and and Rex Ryan fires Greg Roman,
the offensive coordinator after giving up thirty seven or forty
points at home to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Well this season, you know,
(01:00:22):
they give up forty seven points, six rushing touchdowns. As
you mentioned, there three yards on the ground and they
make a change of quarterback. Now, I will say though
that you know, you can pick offense, you can pick defense.
They're both equally equally to blame for what happened against
New Orleans. I mean, this offense has not been functioning
real well the last couple of weeks, and that's an understatement,
(01:00:43):
and that's the reason for the move. I mean, clearly
they're trying to spark UH this offense get more points.
And in Nathan Peterman, I think they see a guy
who they believe can do what they want to do offensively,
whether that be getting the ball out quicker, going through
his progressions, throwing from the pocket. You know, Tyrod taylor
strength as a quarterback is this is his mobility, his
(01:01:04):
ability to throw on the run. And for whatever reason,
that's not what Rick Dennison, the offensive coordinator here wants
him here wants from his offense. He want he wants
a pocket passer. And you know, I thought it was
really telling when Cameron Jordan last week's in the Saints
said our goal was to make Tyrod Taylor be a quarterback.
And when you hear a defensive player say that, I
mean that's an indictment on the guy playing quarterback. That
(01:01:25):
that basically means we don't think he can beat us
from the pocket. And that is I think the biggest
reason for this change, because the the you know, the
Saints and and maybe the Jets before them too in
week nine had had a blueprint to keep Tyrod Taylor
in the pocket and say I don't think you can
beat us from there, and and those two teams were
proven right, improven right in a big way. And it's
interesting because Tyrod Taylor, and like you covered on the
(01:01:48):
day of the basis, remember and I think it might
have admitting your paper or one of the other papers.
He was very defensive about being labeled a running quarterback, right,
and it was it was white people because I'm black.
He is like, dude, you're an athletic quarterback. Whether you're
black or white doesn't really matter. That's who you are.
So maybe even he doesn't know who he is or
what he is or what his strength is while teams
(01:02:10):
are telling you what what he is and what his
strength is. Well, and I wonder if there's part of
him that you know, was determined to maybe sometimes stay
in the pocket a little bit longer than he normally
would have, solely because of that, because he didn't want
to be viewed as a guy who was only able
to be a running quarterback and make plays outside the pocket.
And that would be a problem for this team if
that were the case. I don't know that to be
(01:02:32):
true for for sir or for sure, but I think
that that would easily factor into their decision making. If
if he's making the wrong call and when plays do
break down and he should leave the pocket and he's
staying in there and holding the ball and maybe taking
sacks because of it, then yeah, that would be an issue. So,
you know, but I think to the larger point here,
it is this is a bold move by Sean McDermott.
(01:02:53):
I mean, this is a five and four football team
that currently, if the season ended today, would make the playoffs.
And and yes, they have been very bad the last
two weeks, both offensively and defensive defensively, as we talked about.
But to turn to an unproven rookie, a guy who
was a fifth round pick for a reason, you know,
is really I think the move of a coaching staff
that is feeling like, hey, you know, this is our
(01:03:15):
first season here. We can make some risks like this,
we can take some calculated and Sean McDermott himself called
it a calculated risk. I don't know the coaching staff
that felt like they were coaching for their jobs would
make a move like they moved that they made today. Yeah, no,
I mean like during their first year. And of course
he runs this entire organization. He even brought in the
general manager, you know, from Carolina, so he has the
(01:03:36):
power to do so. It's a bold move, but an
interesting one nonetheless, especially when you're still at least technically
in playoff in the playoff hunt, whether the reality of
the difficulty of their schedule San Diego Kansas City still
the Patriots on the road, Patriots at home. Those are difficult,
difficult games. Great great stuff. Jay, thanks so much for
joining us, really appreciated. Yeah, you gotta thank you for me.
(01:04:00):
So you needed a guy, we got you a guy.
That NFL discussion brought to you by True Car. True Card.
You can find out what other people paid in your
area for the car you want new or use visit
Truecar to enjoy more confident car buying experience. Uh. Let's uh,
let's get to Dan Buyer find out what else is
going on in the world of fortune. What he got
(01:04:22):
for is d well. Those three U c l A
Basketball players found out today they have been suspending indefinitely
after they were charged with shoplifting in China. The players
Lee Angelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill all apologize
for their actions. I didn't exercise my best dozen and
I was wrong for that. I apologize to my family,
my coaches, my teammates, and U c l A for
(01:04:44):
letting so many people down. That was Lee Angelo Ball,
I thought like. Director Jan Garrero said. The players stole
items from three stores while on that trip to China
last week to face Georgia Tech. The players also think
the school conference government and President Trump for helping them
in this situation. In the National Football League, some quarterbacking
news and a bunch of different spots. The Bills are
going with rookie QB Nathan Peterman against the Chargers on Sunday.
(01:05:08):
Case Keenum gets to start against the or for the
Vikings against the Rams is Teddy Bridgewater will once again
be the backup, but Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer said
the Vikings were tempted to start Bridgewater, but instead we'll
stick with Keenum. Arizona sports dot Com says the Cardinals
will reportedly start playing Gabbert Sunday against the Texans. Say
Young Award winners coming up tonight, Doug six o'clock Eastern time.
(01:05:31):
That National in one should be interesting. Clayton Kershaw one
of the three finalists going up against Nationals teammates Max
Scherzer and Steven Strassburg Um. Does do you get, Dan,
why they're announced it? Why they announced it so late?
I think you love baseball. I love bab I'm not
(01:05:51):
probably love it more than I do, but I just
I think it's because they don't want anything over the playoffs,
you know, That's why they you know a lot of
managerial moves aren't made until after the world season, kind
of the World Series, kind of that embargo thing. I
think that would be the reason why, because the voting
is done by the end of the regular So who's
paying attention? Yeah, who is paying attention? I want to
(01:06:13):
know anybody who's like, man, I can't wait tonight to
see the cy Young Award win. Who's gonna Who's gonna
give me? Quite Kuber? I can't can't I can't wait?
He can't wait? Yes, sorry, Honey, Dinners canceled with the neighbors. Honey,
we gotta have the TV on Why they're announcing the
Cyon Award? Yes, Ryan Music, couldn't you say that because
they're doing it at this point of the year when
there really isn't anything to talk about for baseball, that
(01:06:37):
they're trying to raise the prominence of the down season. Why.
I don't doubt that that's the philosophy, but has been
proven since they've been doing this. It doesn't work. It
just doesn't like. What's interesting is the Nationals are trying
to figure out what the hell are we gonna do
with Bryce Harper? He wants a huge deal and we
want to keep him. He's important. But I tell me
(01:06:59):
the huge it's two fifty million dollar, three fifty million dollar,
four hundred million dollar deal. Tell me the one for
an everyday player. That makes sense, right, Give me the guy,
Give me the guy works made says, we all pick
apart pictures, but like, at least Max Scherzer has has
performed like pictures. It's about fifty fifty the big contract
(01:07:21):
has performed hitters like and I will grant you Pools
didn't get paid and like the three million until he
was in the prime or even coming out of the
prime of his career. And there's still four years left
in the Pools deal. I think was the the last four years.
They're gonna be bad, and they're gonna be bad bad.
(01:07:43):
So like explained to me, like John Carlos Stanton, who's deal.
By the way, he he hit how many home runs
this year? Did he? Now? Fifty two? Was was Aaron judge?
I think he had? Okay, So he's fifty nine. He
nearly hits sixty home runs. He has the most prodigious
(01:08:07):
home run year in the history of the Miami Marlins.
And they want to trade him, right, like everybody in
baseball is like they want to trade him and oh yeah,
by the way, they're actually not paying him that much
money yet you guys, remember the financial it's a backloaded
deal that he can opt out of, so they haven't
(01:08:28):
paid that much money. He's performing at or above the
level of the actual contract, and there's new owners and
they still want to get rid of it. So like
to me, like that's the John Carlos standing thing, Like
if I'm MLB network, like that's interesting. Bryce Harper's interesting.
What the Yankees do is interesting. What the Dodgers do
it Like these things are interesting, Like the Cy Young Award, Like, okay,
(01:08:51):
they announced it, it's cool, But to announce it like
every day, like hold on, we got more information. We'll
see you tomorrow at six. Hold On, we got more information.
We'll see you tomorrow at six. It's like, that's it
to me. Do you want to grow the game? You
want to make it interesting? Hand out the war those
awards during the postseason. Corey Kluber wins Society Award by
the way, he sucked in the postseason this year, but
(01:09:13):
hand him the award on the field, so that way, we,
I mean, what's better then the motivation of going up
against the side award winner. What's better than let's say
Clayton Kershaw doesn't get it this year because he didn't
pitch for a good portion of time because he was
out with the back injury, right, Like, all right, does
that motivate him more? Right? Like, you hand who's gonna
(01:09:34):
win the National League? He doesn't win it. I guess
the Max Scherzer, Right Like, if you hand the award
to Max Scherzer and like he's pitching that, I'd like
to see what these guys, I don't know. To me,
that grows the game more than nobody's talking about baseball.
So let's make them talk about baseball with awards that
have been proven. You've had a couple of years. It
hasn't worked. Baseball does this. They did it with the
(01:09:56):
damn inter league play. Inter league play was cool, man,
It was great. It added to baseball. Gave me a
reason to go to the yard in the middle of
the summer that I get to see somebody I couldn't
see before. And look, there's always going to be uh
Raise versus Mariners. Like okay, not all inter league makes sense.
You know, Raise don't really draw it for anybody's. It
(01:10:18):
doesn't doesn't matter, but there's always gonna be. But at
least you gave me Angels, Dodgers, you gave me giants A's,
you gave me Mets, uh Mets versus yank you gave
me Orioles versus Nats. Like I'm I'm in, I'm all in.
But once you went to fifteen teams aside and you've
(01:10:40):
got inter League every damn series, you're like, uh like
even Seinfeld because I love and it's on every night?
Does anybody watch it every night? Like every night? Every night?
I love the fact that the kid's name is Peterman Peterman.
How good is that? How good is it that the
(01:11:02):
kid's name is Peterman? Mr? Peterman? Just it's too good.
If if Nathan Peterman really wants to win America when
the hearts and minds of America, when he does his
first press conference as starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills,
shouldn't somebody send him an urban sombrero? Wouldn't that just
(01:11:22):
be amazing? Mr? Peterman? Like he comes out in urban
sombrero and you're like, what are you wearing? Urban sombrero?
Peterman catalog? Come on, Mr Peterman, all right. Coming up next,
Nick Right thinks that Dak Prescott made a big mistake.
What is that mistake? Find out? Plus I'll tell you
(01:11:44):
if I agree or disagree. That's up coming next. What
True Car. You can find out what other people in
your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. Doug Gotli Show Fox Sports, Ready up
two in the moning. This is one of the great
albums of all time. Great. Huh, you're live shooting there? No,
(01:12:10):
I was just stretching, stretching, getting down. Don't get mad,
because I can get down, I'll get mad. Don't hate,
don't hate. Uh. Yeah, it's bad, not good, not good.
White Man's over by dancing not really particularly good. Uh.
I will be in Kansas City this weekend. Sunday night
is the College Basketball Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. Me
(01:12:36):
and Frand for Schilla whose of course it works for ESPN,
we will be uh the Masters of Ceremonies, the co
Masters of Ceremonies. It's a great time. And so if
you're in the area, come down and see us. If
you have them been to the cbe the college basketball experience.
It's awesome, super interactive. I should have taken my little guy.
Maybe we'll take my little guy. It's pretty cool, pretty
(01:13:00):
pretty pretty cool event. Anyway, Um, we'll get more on
that upcoming. The meantime, let's get this and now a
right earlier today on Fox Sports Radio. And look, we
got great shows and they're so good. In fact, we'd
like to bring back the best stuff from some of
(01:13:21):
the best shows. First things first, Nowtstanding Show on Fox
Sports one and on Serious x M Channel three from
I think three thirty to six thirty East Coast time.
Is it right in the morning, right or is it
no West Coast time? So it's six thirty to nine
thirty East Coast time, three thirty to six thirty West
(01:13:41):
Coast time. Uh. It stars Chris Carter, Hall of Famer,
Jenna Wolfe and Nick Right. Here's what Nick had to
say about a mistake he believes that Dak Prescott made.
I think Dak made a mistake here calling this must
win because I think you put your team in a
(01:14:02):
rough spot if you, as the leader, you was the quarterback,
say we have to win this football game, and then
you lose this football game. You do start out oh
and two with this suspension when your season isn't oh.
If Doc is saying for us to have any shot
at winning the NFC East, we have to win this game, well,
that's obviously true. And by the way, even if they
(01:14:23):
win this game, they are a huge underdog to win
the NFC East. They would still even though they would
be one oh on the Eagles, they'd still be two
games back in the standings. The question is can the
Cowboys get to the requisite ten wins? I think it's
going to take to make the playoffs in the NFC,
and they can lose this game and still do that.
(01:14:43):
I think that the problem becomes like, look, does does
must win mean must win? Probably not, It means you
should win. But that's not that far from the truth.
Remember that would take them to five and five. They
still have to go to Oakland take on the Raiders
at the end of the year itself, have to go
to Philadelphia home games against the Seahawks, home games against
(01:15:07):
the Redskins, uh home game against the Chargers on Thanksgiving Days.
You've got a quick turnaround after this game, and remember
you're playing potentially without Sean Lee has got a bad hamstring,
like this is a bad spot for them. So doesn't
mean cancel the season. No, it's not an elimination game,
but it must win. Is just simply telling you this
is really really important. I'm taking it really seriously. We
(01:15:29):
can't take it as anything more than that. I don't.
I don't look at his mistake. I look at his leadership.
I look at it as Dak Prescott telling his team,
his teammates, and his fans that they're going to pay
attention to detail that they have to because if you fall,
uh two games behind the Eagles because you lost to
(01:15:51):
them at home, you're putting themselves at a severe disadvantage
to make the playoffs. Let's take it to Dan Buyer
and get you but breaking news update, breaking news from
Fox Sports Dallas. Cowboys running back to Ezekiel Elliott's released
his statement through his agents saying that he will serve
(01:16:13):
his full six game suspension and drop any appeals of
that six game ban. In the statement, Elliot said that
he consulted with the NFL Players Association and his lawyer,
and after the recent findings, decided that he will and
all appeals and now continue to serve that six game suspension.
Uh here, I want to read. I want to if
(01:16:34):
you guys on't mind, we had time. I want to
read the whole statement, just so you know. Is there contrition?
Is there? In consultation with the NFL p A and
his lawyers and after careful deliberation this from his agents,
of course, wrote this, Mr Elliot decided to forego any
further appeals and will serve the remaining suspension. The decision
arises from the practical assessment of the current legal landscape.
(01:16:57):
Mr Elliott's desire foreclosure in this matter is in his
best interests as well as the best interest of teammates,
family and friends. The decision is no way in a
mission of wrongdoing, and Mr Elliott is pleased that the
that the please that the legal fight mounted by he
and his team resulted in disclosing many hidden truths regarding
the matter, as well as publicly exposed in the NFL's
(01:17:20):
mismanagement of a disciplinary process. Mr Elliot will maximize this
time away from the game and come back even stronger,
both on and off the field. Blah blah blah, blah
blah blah blah. So I'm not saying I did it.
I'm simply saying, look, the legal challenges, it's too expensive,
it's not really worth it. And we showed you that.
We think that she's a liar. And here's why. Here's
(01:17:43):
all that matters. Two things the matter. First, do you
think he did it? Music? What do you think? Man?
I think I'm I can't definitely say that he did it,
and I think that is exactly what he hoped to
create a reasonable doubt. Okay, uh Ramos, do you think
(01:18:05):
he did it? I am not going to comment on that.
I don't have enough information for myself to make an
educated guess. It's not an educated guess, it's uneducated. This
is what you personally think. Do you personally think that
he in any way, uh physically mistreated his ex girlfriend? Yes?
You do? Okay, Dan Buyer, do you think in any
way like, look, this is what we do. We give up.
(01:18:26):
It doesn't mean you're you're right or you're wrong. But
this is what America when you're walking down the street
just kind of is actually the part that matters. The
football stuff doesn't really it does matter. I want to
get to that, but this is the part that kind
of really matters. Do you think what he did has
allowed you to think twice, maybe he didn't do it.
This is where I completely disagree with you, because I
think that from the information that I've heard, there's a
lot of gray area on what actually went on in
(01:18:51):
those situations. So that's why I think it's very difficult
to say did he or didn't he. I didn't say
it was I didn't say it was easy, but I
did say that telling me what you actually think inside,
you honestly think, is all I'm asking you. I know,
I just look at it like, if you're cheating on
a test, if you take one answer or you take
(01:19:11):
all answers, is that just black and white cheating? You know? Like,
and so that's why I got you. It's a it's
a very good and it's a very good analogy. It's
actually here's another one. Um. I talked about this with
my son's teacher in terms of spelling right, and she's like,
you know, every once in a while he gets a
word wrong and spelling and we were looking at the
spelling test and I was like, well, he got them
(01:19:32):
wrong based upon how the English language was written, but
it didn't get them wrong in terms of understanding the phonetics,
which is actually more important than how they're spelled right anyway,
So I agree with you there. Do you think that
he's that that? Do you believe that he's a a
woman beater? Like that's really right, that's really what this
(01:19:52):
kind of comes down. And then that I would say, no,
I agree with you. I don't and I probably, like
John Ramos, none of us have enough information. We don't
know enough about it. But the the information campaign to uh,
you know, to cure the misinformation campaign, they cure the
NFL of like, yeah, I'm sorry, I just I I
(01:20:15):
think she made it up. That doesn't mean I think
all women who are abused, most women don't make it up.
I think she, like others, did more damage to women
who are abused. Uh, even in many ways that women
that don't say anything that are like either way is bad.
But it's not because it's a cowboy. I don't carry
(01:20:36):
as a cowboy. I don't carry Jerry Jones is running back.
I don't have him on fantasy has nothing to do
with it. I just think like there's some stuff in
there that's really damning where she's talking about making up
stories about him. Sorry, I think she made it up.
And the cops think she made it up too, so
I could be wrong. Look, he looks really really bad
from it. I mean in this we also knew that
(01:20:58):
he was using drugs when he was based upon their accuzations,
he was doing some stuff he shouldn't have been doing
getting ready for the NFL drop. He doesn't look good
out of it. But looking bad and looking like a
woman beater, I don't think he does not to me,
based upon the information that's available. I'll continue to react
to the breaking news. Zeke Elliott is gonna service suspension.
(01:21:19):
We'll talk about it next in the Doug Gotlieb Show.
What Up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Chris Brusar
is gonna join us upcoming twenty minutes. Talk to him
and be a how are the Celtics performing so well
despite so many injuries and the fact they got a
completely new team? Uh plus um Lebron James continues to
(01:21:40):
put up points more efficient than than ever, but his
team mixed back finally got a back above five hundred.
And we'll talk about the sixers and uh and and
how they have trusted the process to being about five hundreds.
They take on the Lakers tonight, we'll ask Brussard if
the Lakers are concerned about Lonzo balls lack of offensive productivity.
(01:22:01):
All of that upcoming, Let's get to the news of
the moment, which we have just heard, which is Ezekie
Elliott is azek Elliott is going to no longer appeal
his suspension. He already served one game of that suspension.
He will see if the other five games of the suspension.
His agents came out and said this in no way
(01:22:24):
is an ambition of guilt, but look, legally, it's expensive.
He's already served a game, five more games. What's he
gonna do? Right, What's he gonna do? And so this
leads us to a lot of questions. Was this due
to Jerry Jones's fight against Roger Goodell? What does it
(01:22:48):
do to the Cowboys who looked terrible against Atlanta Falcons
and h their reward? The Philadelphia Eagles, who are much
better than the Atlanta Falcons, albeit they play the Philadelphia
Eagles at home. On the other hand, the Cowboys, since
they opened Jerry World, not particularly good at home. There's
no real home field advantage there, so you're not gonna
have Zeke. You're at five and four, struggling a little bit,
(01:23:10):
trying to make the playoffs. Your schedule is relatively backloaded
by the way, You've got two games in four days upcoming.
You still have to go on the road to Philly.
You got to go on the road to Oakland. Uh,
you have home to Seattle, like, you got some good
teams remaining on the schedule. And then what does it
do the reputation of Zeke Elliott? Right? The great thing
(01:23:32):
for Zeke Elliott is that there was seeds of doubt
planet in most of us that read what was leaked.
And let's also be honest, it's happened in the first year,
actually before the first year of his career, so he's
got ten more years. It's how your career. We forget
about so many things that happened early in somebody's career. Right,
(01:23:52):
if you can win championships, perform well, stay out of
trouble for the next five, seven, ten years. But let's
start with what it does to Jerry Jones fight. This
is the opposite of what happened in New England with
the flate gate, because in the flight gate, they punished
the team and they punished Tom Brady. Both said didn't
(01:24:16):
do it, and then Robert casts like, you know what, Fine,
here's the deal. We'll fall on the sword, we'll pay
the fine, we'll go up the draft pick. Fine, we'll
do it. So Tom Brady was left and lurched like yo,
(01:24:37):
I said, I didn't do it. I'm not turning over
my cell phone. And when he did, it was all
smashed up right, And so Brady ends up serving a
four game suspense for something he never admitted to doing.
There was a limited, if any, proof that he ordered
the code read, but because his team decided it's better
(01:24:59):
for the league if we accept the punishment then fight it,
especially considering our our our level of success, it really
end up hurting Tom Brady. Doesn't this do the same
for Jerry Jones and Zeki Elliott? Now, maybe it could
(01:25:21):
cause uh Jerry Jones two two uh to form an
alliance with Robert Craft. Craft has long been a supporter
of Roger Goodell, and now they can both say, hey,
we're two of the most powerful owners and both of
us been screwed by the commissioner. I contended to contend this,
(01:25:45):
nobody reads the fine print. Who are your fine print?
Did you get that Apple update that sucked that that
screwed up everybody trying to write I and instead it
was the question mark deal a in the box. You
remember that? Why did that happened? Because everybody got the
Apple Update and the second you got the Apple up date,
you like, yep, it's the latest and greatest. I'm in.
(01:26:08):
He didn't read it. You have no idea what it is.
You don't know the conditions like fine whatever, Like if
it said in there in the Apple sents you something
that said and if you change from an Apple iPhone
to a Motorola device to an Android device, you have
to sacrifice your firstborn. You wouldn't know how I wouldn't know.
(01:26:32):
Nobody looks at the fine print. Right. It could say
if you use Apple Wallet, you're paying us five cents
every time you use Apple Wallet, Like who would know?
Like five cents here, five cents there? How much cann
it add up to hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars?
You don't know, nobody. Do you have any idea what
(01:26:54):
the rate you actually pay on your credit card? Is no,
because you try and like we try and do it
will pay the first month, right so that you don't
have to pay the interest. I have no idea what
the interest is. None don't know. Do you know, I
don't know? Oh yeah, I know, I know. I negotiated like, no,
you don't. You don't know. And if you know one thing,
(01:27:16):
you don't know every bit of fine print you belong
to your gym membership. Can you get out of it?
I'm sure you. I'm sure somewhere there's a paper somewhere
that you probably threw away. There's fine print. You didn't
read it. You're like, look, I just want to work out, okay,
Just can you show me the room where the yoga
pants are? Yoga pants, by the way, ladies are a privilege,
not a right. Privilege, not right. But can you show
(01:27:38):
me the room where the yoga pants are? And I'm
gonna go and get swollen outside of that room? Right.
Nobody reads the fine print. The players didn't read the
fine print, and the owners certainly didn't read the fine print.
Because there was this huge lockout. It was labor strife.
(01:27:58):
They were gonna miss preseason games, and the NFL of
players and the owners ended up meeting in the middle,
end up agreeing to terms ten year labor piece. You
know what, they forgot to change that the commissioner has
autonomous power. You know, hey, they got less practice, less
(01:28:19):
practice time. Sure the product sucks, offensive lines can't block
the first month of the season, you know, and players
safety supposedly is helped by it, even though most of
the players actually want to be better off. They change
some of the salary cap, which raised the floor because
during the non capped year there was no floor, so
teams spent less than they ever could have been imagined.
(01:28:42):
Everybody's making more money. The league revenues are split, like,
what did we forget to get to the commissioner has
autonomous power. That was in the fine print. We'll get
to it later. And now you can argue with it.
You can say it's not fair because Kaela can say, like, look,
this chick is crazy. She's my ex girlfriend. She got
(01:29:05):
into it with my at the time current girlfriend. That's
where the scripes and bruises are. Look at the text messages.
The cops didn't things she was telling the truth. All
that's fine. I mean, look, the NFL got exposed for
they had somebody, a woman, investigate, and she was like,
I don't really see it here. Then they had the
meeting to decide the punishment. She wasn't even in the room.
(01:29:27):
Her boss was in the room, like, yeah, I think
you should punish him. The whole thing is crazy, But
you know what, it's all there in the fine print.
Here's the process. Even the six game suspension, like the
automatic suspension for domestic violence, like that wasn't really vetted.
(01:29:47):
That was just the league and everybody freaking out to
the fact that I can't believe that ray Rice only
got two games, right, that's why. That's that's where it
came from. Ray Rice got two games, and they're like, what,
ray Ice got two games? He hit jen Jen a
Rice and then she hit the the like the hand
the pole of the I don't know what you call
(01:30:08):
it in the handrail and the elevator and she went
down and then he dragged around the elevator and then
he pretended like she was not even interesting to him
and he just kind of tried to get away, like
and all I got was two games. Yeah, at the time,
that was actually the worst suspension, longest suspension the history
the league for domestic violence. It's like, whoa, I gotta
(01:30:28):
do six games. Nobody stopped to go like, hey, well,
what if there's like he said, she said things like
no gotta be six games, So like do I there
were seeds of doubt, huge seeds of doubt to which
I do not believe that I don't believe her story.
That doesn't mean I think that Ezeki Elliott Uh is
(01:30:51):
an I believe he's immature. Am I gonna do the
double negatives. It's not that I don't believe he's is
an image that it's too much. I can't even understand
what I'm saying when I say that I believe he's immature.
I believe that he probably was running through several different
relationships at the time, and I'm not sure he treated
it all together that well. But there's enough doubt in
(01:31:13):
the text messages about what she told her friends to say,
to which I'm like, not buying it, and the cops
didn't buy it, and I'm kind of good with it.
I'm good with it. I don't think this is a
case of she got beat up at the cops, like, no,
he's an important football player, we can't charge him. That's
not what I think happened here. That's my own personal
bias that said, Look, the NFL has the right to
(01:31:37):
suspend these six games. The commissioner has the right the
legal legally, they're well within their rights, even when they
butcher and screw it up and they piss off one
of the most powerful owners. And so Jerry Jones going
after Roger Goodell because his guy was suspended six games
and it may completely submarine their chances of winning a
(01:31:58):
Super Bowl. Maybe you can bound together with Robert Kraft.
If it's me and I'm Jerry Jones. I think Jerry
Jones has a good argument about we shouldn't pay him
fifty million dollars, we shouldn't give him a free jet.
What I would do is just like all these NFL
(01:32:20):
teams do, just like you will do if you're in
a if you're in a contract year. I know so
many of you don't have contracts. We have contracts. In
my business, I have a three year contract. Who doesn't
perform well when under fire? Stadium attendance an issue, ratings
an issue, domestic violence and the handling of these things,
(01:32:43):
and how it's how it's litigated by the league, how
it's all of these things. An issue player compensation and
guaranteed contracts, and further labor strife and moving teams and
the proliferation of the NFL on TV, and all these
things are issues which has made the NFL's image go
(01:33:03):
from the best professional, the most valuable professional sport in
the land to still really valuable but got a lot
of issues. If you're Jerry Jones, you take the L
on this one much the way the Patriots took the
L on theirs, but you pocket it and you say,
(01:33:26):
let's not settle on the contract details until we see
how the commissioner performs in a contract year. Is he
gonna go Joe Flacco and fix everything and win a
Super Bowl? We'll give you the fifty million dollars. But
if he's not gonna fix everything, let me get rid
of him, or you lowball hum and make him walk
out the door because he doesn't want to accept five
(01:33:46):
million a year anyway. Fascinating stuff. It feels like it
derails the Cowboys season, which was already partially derailed. We'll
see if they can fix it. We'll see if they
get tyrod Smith Tyrone smithback so they can actually block.
But that NFL discussion brought to you by True Carbon,
True Car. You can find out what other people in
you are. You pay for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy a more
(01:34:08):
confident car buying experience. Chris bruce Are joins the show
up coming next Celtics. Should We Care? Find out next
what True Car? You can find out what other people
in your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. I hear that song and all I
can think of is breathe in, breathe out, breathe and
(01:34:31):
breathe out, breathe. That's a rite and I were saying too,
he said, we just kept thinking breathing, breathe out. Well,
look who is that machine had with Gavin Rosendale, right
lead vocals who married Gwen Stefani and then you know,
not married she's done her with the nanny, right? That
(01:34:52):
is correct? Yeah? Mh. By the way, Blake Shelton sucks
sexiest man a lot? Is that correct? That? Yeah? Not
getting a lot of good good pub on that from
a lot of the people saw on Twitter, like who
they talked to, They talked to you, like, listen, I
find nothing that there's First of all, like I don't
(01:35:14):
go that way. But if you do, that's fine, okay.
But I also find nothing wrong with the heterosexual mail
going like, yeah, that's a good looking man, right, Like
this man we can look at and go like, Ryan
Reynolds is a good looking man. My wife, when my
radio show was on television at the other place, she
never watched my show. When I had Ryan Reynolds on
the super Bowl a couple of years ago promoting Deadpool, um,
(01:35:35):
she watched, repeatedly watched. I mean he's a good looking man,
like Blake Shelton. I mean, like, look, I guess it's
helped there's hope for Ryan music, right, bearded guys, bearded
tall dudes with I mean, he didn't even have like
a like at least music is like cut, like ripped
(01:35:56):
up athletic, right, whereas Shelton's not. I mean's not like
super Doughey, but more Doughey than I guess. It just
proves kids that, like, look, if you can't be a
professional athlete, that's a hard thing to do. You have
to win the genetic lottery there, right, and you gotta
(01:36:16):
work really hard. You gotta be win a little genetic lotter.
You can't you go into golf hey, because golf doesn't
really matter your body type, like perfect example, like Ricky
Ricky Fowler, like his girlfriend is she's the pole vaulter, right,
I mean she's gorgeous, right, And Ricky Fowler is a
good look can do but he's like five seven like
(01:36:37):
five step. But work really hard at golf. That's just
that's just hard work and focus and steadiness of hand.
That's not athletic talent as much as desire and effort.
Or become a singer because chickstig singers, at least enough
of them dig singers, and guys dig singers as well.
Don't think this is some male show, but it is
(01:36:57):
my roommate in college, Rodney Suitter, who's happily marry two kids.
Listen outside Tulsa, Oklahoma, Like we would go we go
out on Thursday nights. If there was a band that
had a check lead singer, like he all of a
sudden became a groupie and this way I want to
meet her, Like why I don't look at her sexy?
Like do you just have a thing for singers? People
(01:37:18):
have a sing thing for singers. Some of it is
the words that they sing, right, the words just the
magic and a lot of I hate to be the spoiler,
none of them wrote their the lyrics, but just the
act of them singing. Act of them singing. Christopher starts
having phone trouble. Are we buying that one? He said,
(01:37:41):
he's having trouble. He's trying to get into a better
phone to call us back. Okay, that's fine, he's he's
just like phone trouble, can't do it or else? Stoden
you call and it keeps getting like two rings and
then declined like can I call you later? You get
back on your cell phone, like he's pressing the button.
What's going on there? What's going on there? Um, I'm
(01:38:04):
gonna ask him about the Celtics. I mean, there have
been some that have said, like, hey, let's not pay
attention to the Boston Celtics winning a row. I've talked
to Brad Stevens about this, and he's like, look, we
try and win every possible game that we play because
it establishes our culture as a winning culture. And oh yeah,
by the way, winning teams they don't have players only meetings.
(01:38:26):
They just don't don't have players only meetings. And um uh,
I think the Celtics winning a Row speaks to what
Brad Stevens. The culture has already been able to establish
the culture that they're continuing to push even with all
these new players and the fact that the Celtics are
(01:38:47):
there's there's a little bit of a message being sent
to the league, like we understand Lebrons is great, but
we're not going anywhere. We change personnel, we lose scrdon Hayward,
kye Irvan breaks his face, We're not going anywhere. We're
just not We are going to We're gonna be a
team that is always gonna guard you, and we're gonna
(01:39:09):
be there and we'll find ways to win games. That's
what they've done. Even they don't play terribly well at
times against the Brooklyns of the world, they find ways
to win games. In order to establish a championship culture,
first you have to establish a culture of winning that
you expect to win every game, and then you gotta
get it into the playoffs where you win games. And
(01:39:30):
they won games that they fall fell down zero two
to the Chicago Bulls last year. Bulls had Rondo got
hurt and they found a way and bounced back. And
Isaiah Thomas when his sister died was magnificent. But that's
when when you're talking about changing your culture. Yes, John Romn,
do you think to hire because I know there's a
lot of stuff that happened when Brad Stevens got hired.
(01:39:51):
He's too young, he's not he's not ready for the
big time. Do you think that Brad Stevens higher maybe
one of the best tires in the NBA in the
last like ten years as the Sean McVeigh hire looks
like it will be for the Rams, A young guy
who really got it and it's just a great higher. Yeah. Yeah,
I mean, like, look the I saw his practices early
on his first year and he was he was better
(01:40:12):
than others. And then I saw him when he was
in Hawaii the year they went to the National Championship game.
I was like, I like their team. Um. The thing
about Brad, that's that's awesome that I don't think because
he looks like he's in his mid twenties and because
he's he's also like clean cut and you don't hear
(01:40:34):
he does curse, but you don't hear him like curse,
and you just think he has such a professor oreal,
such of like old soul kind of approach to him
or whatever his teams. I remember when we were watching
him in Hawaii and the way it worked. I was,
there's a there's a tournament in Christmas time called the
Diamond Head Classic, and a lot of people are down
on like Oahua. Who's where Honolulu is? Like it's a
(01:40:57):
big city, is like, it's Hawaii. Do you want to go? Like, yeah,
I'll go on. The company's time went three years in
a row. You can still go hike Diamond Head. There's
still some places you can go that you can go
to the north Shore there. It's pretty sick, great restaurants,
good shopping, and it is Hawaii anyway. Um, the way
(01:41:20):
they had they had morning games and they had afternoon
games and the morning games. We had two different TV crews.
I would do the night games and I did sideline
for some of the morning games. Somehow would just go
watch because this year that year my wife didn't go.
And I remember watching a game and somebody said to me, um,
(01:41:44):
have you seen Butler play? Like yeah, like that's the
most physical team I've ever It was one of the ref's.
I was having a beer with the ref and he
was like, you've seen Butlers like yeah, He's like, that's
the most physical team I've seen in college basketball, and
like really like Butler, He's like, yeah, they look like
they look like choir boys, but they hit you like sailors.
(01:42:05):
And the more you start to watch, the more like, yeah,
they really do. And if you watch this team with
the Boston Celtics, you look at the defensive numbers. They
also are very physical. Look it's not and Kyrie doesn't
really guard anybody, and they're they're trying to get him
to come around. But he gets his teams to guard man.
He gets his teams to be physical, he gets his
(01:42:25):
teams to get after it. I want to talk some up.
Jello ball, Ella's Jello ball. Jello and the other two
knuckleheads from U c l A are back. What should
use c l A do. We'll get to that. Plus
Chris Persarge is gonna uh not gonna check it. Bailed
on us. Can't get a good phone, Get out of here.
(01:42:50):
You can't get a good phone. Well, I don't know,
Los Angeles, you can't get a good I don't know.
Look your buddies with him. When his phone starts working again,
call him out. His phone is not working. Where could
he possibly be. I can't answer that. Its like three
places in Los Angeles. One is if you take Beverly
Glen between you know, are there any of the two
routes to go from the valley to West West West
(01:43:14):
Los Angeles that no cell service? And I think that's it.
Then there's a couple of other like dead zones. I
know when I'm on the four or five going home,
I'm talking to somebody every day at the same time.
There's a spot there. There's a couple of spots. That's it.
There's no other excuse. Like most people who are NBA insiders,
(01:43:36):
that he has multiple phones, so one of them that
we normally use, he doesn't want to give out the number,
just going straight to voicemail. Then he has another line
that he's tried and he's called and it keeps dropping.
So we're not gonna put him on the air in
order for it to be like Chris, Okay, let's try
this again. Okay. So I don't know, I don't know
(01:43:57):
where he is. Maybe he's underground somewhere, but just let's
get the damn buyer and get an update. Chris Brushard
has been ruled out of the Dug Gottlieb Show today
because phone issues. No word on when Brussard will be
returning to the program. Ezekiel Elliott is going to drop
the appeals of his suspension and will now serve the
(01:44:19):
entire six game band one game already in the books.
Five more to go for Elliott, who will return to
the Cowboys in week sixteen when they faced the Seahawks.
In her statement through his agent, Elliott decided to drop
the appeals after assessing the legal landscape. But in that
statement Elliott's Elliott said that he admits to no wrongdoing.
Buffalo Bills are gonna start rookie quarterback Neath and Peterman
(01:44:41):
against the Chargers on Sunday, So Tyrod Taylor goes to
the bench disappointed that's one of the filings, but definitely
just disappointed. Like I said, I don't agree with the decision,
but awesomely coach McDermott and has a vision for his
team what he feels his best for the team as
well as the owners in GM. So I have to
move forward and continue to via teammate and deleted that
I am from a different role. I like the answer,
(01:45:02):
but did you notice and rolmost maybe you could bring
it back for us. He said, that's one or Dan,
I know you hit, you hit your own sound. He said,
that's one of the emotions is disappointed. I would love
to be the reporter in the room. They're like, um
uh tyrode. You said, being disappointed one of the emotions.
What are the other emotions you'd like to share with it? Right,
(01:45:24):
I'm piste off. That's the ball, right, But he didn't
he handled it like a gentleman. Yes, yes he did.
He did as he said, he did handle it. Well.
There's probably just more that he wants to say. Case
Keenum is gonna stay. They started quarterback for the Vikings
Study Bridgewater will remain the backup for Week eleven against
the Rams. Fox Sports in Center Ja Glazer said the
Vikings were tempted to start Bridgewater, but we'll stick with Keenum, who,
(01:45:47):
by the way, through four touchdown passes on Sunday and
went against the Washington Redskins. Cardinals will reportedly start playing
Gabbart Sunday against the Texans. Drew Stanton is a knee sprain.
This is according to Arizona Sports dot Com saw Young
Award coming up within the next up ninety minutes. Are
so going to get the a L in about forty
five minutes, Then in about minutes the n i'll winner
will be announced. Chris Paul back to the Rockets on
(01:46:08):
Thursday after missing fourteen games with knee injury. Houston, with
the second best record of the West, takes on Phoenix.
I'm fascinated to see how this Chris Paul thing works out.
Fastened to see how the Oklahoma City thing works out.
I'm interested to see as Cleveland starts to get better
when they get Isaiah Thomas back, how that thing works out.
Like NBA continues to kind of fascinate me, here's the
(01:46:31):
let me let me just kind of give you the
the takeaway of of of like they're not going to
tell this story in the NFL like NFL films, Like
NFL films when they go back to the do you
have the NFL films music? By the way, Um, John Romill,
sorry through this on you. In the last second, I
was just thinking about this as we're talking about Ezeki
(01:46:52):
Elliott being suspended. But you know, they always go back
and they look back on the year of two thousand seventeen,
and you know what, they're not gonna do when they
talk about the playoffs and the Philadelphia Eagles taken on
the New Orleans Saints in Philadelphia, they're not gonna go.
As the Saints marched out of New Orleans to take
(01:47:12):
on the Eagles in the playoffs, it was only because
Ezeki Elliott was suspended for a crime that the police
did not believe he committed or did not want to
charge him with, and Roger Goodell thought there was enough evidence,
enough preponderance of evidence to suspend him for that. In
Aaron Rodgers was injured with a broken collar bone, and
(01:47:34):
the New York Giants were an abject disaster. Plus Odell
Beckham Jr. Was hurt, the Rams were able to push
the Saints in the playoffs. But the Rams only got
to the playoffs because Richard that far in the playoffs
because Richard Sherman, you know, tore his a c l
or no excuse me, towards Achilles tendon and they had
no offensive life. Like when they look back historically at
(01:47:55):
this year in the NFL, they won't bring up that
j J. Was hurt, that Odell Beckham Jr. Was hurt,
that Aaron Rodgers was hurt, that Ezeki Elliott was suspended.
But we're going to get a fictional champions that too
too too strong a term like we're gonna get, We're
(01:48:17):
not gonna I don't think we'll have a true sense
of who's really any good? Like you can tell me Tennessee,
you are what your record says, you are six and three,
But I don't think they're any good. I'm sorry, I
just don't like the Pittsburgh Steelers are seven and two.
They have not played very good football. They have not
played X that's an excellent record. They have not played
excellent football this season. Yes, right, music? Remember the first
(01:48:41):
year the Warriors one and they ended up playing Lebrones.
Well it's not just that. Hold on, let's go back.
Remember they played the New Orleans Pelicans. Drew Holiday didn't
play the first couple of games. Then they played the
Memphis Grizzlies. I'm gonna say Mike only didn't play a
couple of games. Then they played I'm gonna say, uh
(01:49:06):
they was was the Houston Rockets or was it Portland's Uh?
I'm trying to think who they played and who didn't
play in it. But remember they didn't play the Spurs
because the Spurs were beaten by the Clippers, and they
didn't play the Clippers because the Clippers were beating and
(01:49:26):
they didn't play the Clippers because the Clippers were beaten
by the Rockets. But somebody got hurt by Chris Paul
got hurt, or I think Chris Paul got hurt, maybe
Blake Griffin, maybe both of the Clippers. Somebody always gets hurt.
And then of course they play the Cleveland Cavaliers, and
the Calves didn't have Kevin Love because Kevin Loves got
his shoulders separated by um, what's the dude from Gonzaga.
(01:49:52):
Huh Kelly Olynic. Yeah, Kelly Olynnic separated his shoulder and
then Kyrie hurt his knee in Game one and they
lost Game one. In retired it was Houston, right, and
but Houston was missing somebody to like, were they missing
Pat Beverley? They were missing somebody in that in that series.
But Houston wasn't really that good. They simply had beaten
(01:50:14):
the Clippers because the Clippers were hurt. They Houston was
down three games to one that year and they came
back and beat the Clippers. So they didn't play San Antonio.
They didn't play the Clippers. They did play Houston. Houston
wasn't full strength. Uh, the Pelicans weren't a full strength,
the Grizzlies weren't full strength, and the Calves weren't full strength.
(01:50:35):
And so the Warriors won the championship. But they were
kind of lucky. And that almost feels like that's what's
going to happen to I don't know the Philadelphia Eagles,
Like Eagles are good, but are they that good? Or
is it? The Giants are in abject disaster and they
(01:50:55):
have massive injuries and in fighting. Uh um, the Redskins
are are okay. Redskins are much better than I think
than the record would tell you. The Cowboys have had suspensions,
plus Sean Lee has been hurt half this year and
that's really hurt them. They have a very difficult schedule.
Or hey, it could be that the New England Patriots
(01:51:19):
right like here, the Patriots are They've been beaten twice
at home. Their defense is not You cannot convince me
their defense is suddenly good. They lost Julian Edelman for
the season, and yet they can win a Super Bowl
And how would they do it? You know, like you
play Kansas City again in the playoffs, like nobody thinks
(01:51:40):
Kansas City is gonna beat you in the playoffs, especially
away from home, and they don't even sometimes win at home.
Andrew Lux out, J J. Watts out, Deshaun Watson's out.
Their their division is a joke. The Dolphins stink. The
Jets have been trying to be bad, only they're bad
at try to be bad. The Buffalo Bills, who they're
(01:52:02):
gonna play twice, are going to start a rookie quarterback
against them at least once? Like you're not putting Nathan
Peterman in and only starting him for one week? That's
gonna have a that's that's got a long shelf life.
Like the Patriots could win a Super Bowl be like man,
that was kind of a joke year, Like Ravens aren't
good this year. Yeah, Patrick Beverley didn't play because he
had a risk injury. Right, how long is long enough
(01:52:26):
for the three U c l A players led by
Jello ball to be suspended? I'll tell you next what
True Car You can find out what other people in

Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals join us tomorrow. I'll ask
(01:52:48):
him what it feels like to do something stupid like
break his arm playing football and let millions of fantasy
football owners down. What a loser that guy is? Huh?
How dare you break your man? Yeah? Plus, Brady huck
will join us. He's interim head coach at Florida. Um,
(01:53:09):
I gotta ask him what this has been like? Right,
there's all these rumors about who Florida is gonna go higher? Right?
Are they going to hire Chip Kelly? Like, Hey, I'm
trying to coach a football team. I mean I'm in
I'd say Tenant, Florida. I'm in Tennessee. There's always rumors
about Tennessee who they're gonna hire. They're cana hire Gruden whatever.
Brady hooks like, I still gotta coach a football team. Like,
what this is like? What it's like to go through? What? Uh?
(01:53:32):
What what Shones went through? Like when you actually you
get fired? Um? So you know, Brady went through a
year of calling games, He's gone through a year, a
couple of years of coaching games. Get his thoughts on
Tennessee Football, who they're winless in the SEC after the
last year being the champions of life. Let's get to
(01:53:53):
the president the press. Damn, what do you have for me? Well,
the other big news about Brady Hooker is that when
he is serving as the Tennessee Volunteers head coach, he'll
be wearing a headset, something that he didn't do at
Michigan and he got criticized for. But he'll be wearing
(01:54:13):
a headset on the sidelines to have communication with the booth.
How about that development. I thought it was fair criticism, right, Like,
how can he be coaching if you can't actually talk
to anybody? They couldn't hear me up there, Like, coach,
you didn't have a headset on there. I mean, I
think that's that's fair. Like I'm I am gonna ask him, like,
so are you actually telling them something and you're just
listening in? Like I'd like to know the philosophy of
(01:54:36):
the the no headset thing, right, I just want to
feel the game, Like, Okay, yeah, our quarterback got knocked
out and has no idea where he is, but we
couldn't tell you that coach anyway. Um college basketball news,
the big news of the day. Three U c l
A Basketball players suspended and definitely after they were charged
with shoplifting and China, all gave apologies. This was part
of the Angelo Ball's apology. I as president in the
(01:54:59):
United States, governm for the help that they provided as
little so he said he was sorry. And then also
think the president who actually called out the players for
not thinking him yet earlier today on Twitter. But now
we got his thank you. I mean, it is the
weirdest thing ever, right, super weird, Like I can't, I'm
I mean, do you have the tweet in front of
or should I bring it up? Go ahead, Okay, I'll
(01:55:21):
bring it up. I do, I do. Recall they were
facing ten years in jail, was the last line of
the tweets. Do you think the three U c l
A Basketball players will say thank you President Trump? They
were headed to jail, headed for ten years in jail? Like,
come on, man, he should have made it a poll
on Twitter? Do you think they will yes or no? Vote?
(01:55:43):
Twenty four hours left? Like there's nothing worse than search
for a compliment guy, or search for a thank you guy?
You know, like he's like lipping, He's like lipping. Thank
you to them, thank you ten years in jail really
for shoplifting. Uh, they dropped the chargers by the way,
because at all it worked out somewhat to the end. Again,
(01:56:05):
they're suspending indefinitely. At some point we'll find out how
long that suspension actually was. Cowboys running back is Zekiel
Elliott knows how long his suspension is and now he's
going to serve it, dropping the appeals of his suspension
and will now serve the entire six game ban Zeke
will be back week sixteen for Dallas when they faced
the Seahawks. He went out of the country. Okay, right,
that's the big thing. He went out of the country.
(01:56:27):
Did you guys have a problem with him going out
of the country to kind of recalibrate himself, um, while
he suspended. No, Ramos, No, you can't be at the facilities. Yeah,
I don't have an issue with it. I don't either.
He's yet. I mean, that was dead giveaway by the
way that he was going to the suspension wasn't gonna
(01:56:49):
be overturned. He was gonna accepted when he started going
out of the country, right, like he thought you were
gonna be back, you'd be in the country in you know,
in country working out. I don't have an issue. I
don't care be ready to play in in five weeks,
big boy and uh, and we'll see. I don't necessarily
think he got I think there's a a cumulative effect
(01:57:10):
for all the different Dallas Cowboys and frankly all the
different NFL players that have run a muck with the
domestic violence law. And I do think he was probably overpunished.
I'm not sure that he did. I don't know if
they say anything wrong. I'm not sure that he abused
his ex girlfriend. But it is the suspension. It goes
(01:57:31):
down as a as a scarlet letter, and we'll see,
you know, what type of human being he is, and
we'll see, by the way, what type of fight there
is in the Dallas Cowboys. If Dak Prescott is an
elite level quarterback, he'll be able to win with their
current running game even if they get especially if they
get Tyron smithback. CNBC is quoting a sources saying more
(01:57:52):
than half of the NFL's owners want to wait on
giving NFL commission or Roger Goodalt an extension, While the
report says there were support for Jerry Jones aside the
support could be more to do with the timing, which
the source said is quote a pr disaster end quote
if they would give Goodell the extension. Now I completely agree,
what is the rush? He's eighteen months out right? Like
(01:58:13):
what Look, one of the stories today is that Jeff
Long gave a contract. Jeff Long got fired. Is Arkansas's
longtime athletic director. Why do you get fired? He needs
to get fired. His football is bad. He got fired
because he doubled down on bad football and gave a
contract extension when Arkansas was a mess to Brad Bilma,
to Bret Bilma. So like the point is this, Like
(01:58:36):
it's like the Kirk Cousins contract or the Joe Flacco deal,
Like make a guy play in a contract here there there.
The NFL is still doing well, still rating very well,
super Bowl still rate very well. They have some issues.
He wants to be the highest paid commission all the sports. Fine,
you can use the private jet. Fine, show us you
can fix that. You got eighteen months. In the next
twelve months, turn around the narrative of the league and
(01:58:58):
we'll give you your money. I don't think that's an
reasonable Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took snaps from a trainer
in practice today. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rogers
has been out a month and won't be eligible return
to return from his broken collar bone from injured reserve
until week sixteen against the Vikings. I think you'll see
him week sixteen against the Viking. He's playing high shoulder
(01:59:20):
on the first play. Okay, thanks Aaron for that, but
getting smember the Remember the seventeen weeks, seventeen weeks. I
think you'll see him some week sixteen. I think you
see him weeks seventeen, and they finally look like they
figured out, uh figured out how to play without him.
Last week Brett Hunley looked the best that he has looked,
(01:59:42):
and their schedule is kind of manageable. Ravens who aren't
very good at home at Pittsburgh Steelers, tough Buccaneers at home,
at the Browns at the Panthers, tough game Vikings at home.
But if you get him back from Vikings at home,
it's not crazy to think they could still be in
the playoffs, especially with Detroit kind of middling um and uh,
you know, the Bears looking like a team that's again
(02:00:05):
playing for next year. It's not crazy to think he
plays Week sixteen. Finally, News five in Mobile, Alabama says
police there are on the lookout for a man who
shot another man in the thigh Saturday over an argument
over which team was better, Alabama or Auburn. Police say
it was the Alabama fan who shot the Auburn fan,
(02:00:25):
and the Tide fan currently remains at large. Look the best,
the best reason for gun legislation is this, some people
are just too stupid to have guns. The SEC it
just means more backing out there and pressed like, well,
it's my rights about rights, Like think of the dumbest
(02:00:45):
person you know, and then say should they own a firearm?
They're like, no, they should not. And I can turn
any gun n advocate to like you know your uncle Billy.
You know your uncle Billy? Right, Your uncle Billy doesn't
have to be a Bama fan, He could be an
SC fan. Should he own a firearm? Like this pretty
good argument, isn't it? Godly? I know I make them
(02:01:06):
all day. David Johnson, Brady Hoke Tomorrow plus our picks.
