Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Sports Boom. What Up America? Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio coming to you, uh today from the
Iron City of Birmingham. I'm gonna get the two Iron
Cities over the next two days. Birmingham Today, it's Pittsburgh

(00:22):
of the South and Pittsburgh, which is the Birmingham of
the North. Oh see what I did there? Anyway, from
the wonderful I Heart Studios high atop uh the hills
overlooking downtown Birmingham. Doug Gottlieb Show Lot Live to you,
and UM, if you watched the last night, it's kind
of cool. I did a game on Facebook. There's no commercials,
there's no like script. You don't do it like any

(00:43):
other game. And uh and John Ramos and my family watched,
so that's a win. Ramos is Ramos's back, he's healthy,
he's got his B twelve shot in his toss, and
he's he's ready to to uh to mix it up
on the ones and twos Ryan music alongside this. Uh.
He is the quah as I producer. I say quasi
because he doesn't book the show. He's only he's a
hey producer. Of course, this show is booked exquisitely by

(01:08):
Cindy Katz, who, um, I believe she got us Cooper
Cup today. Correct, Cooper Cup in forty five minutes. Cooper
Cup in forty five minutes, That's what I'm being told. Good,
all right, so Cooper Cup in forty five minutes. We'll
get to um very telling game in the NBA last
night that I've coming in fifteen minutes. But but tonight
is Thursday night football, and both teams have had a

(01:31):
true week prepare, so we can't go with the normal
narrative of Thursday night it's gonna be bad football because
you've only had like two days. He can't go with that.
By the way, we are keeping an eye on Tiger Woods.
He is three under through thirteen. He does have four birdies,
several par saves, and more than anything, he looked. He
looked good. He looked good. Tiger Woods trying to single

(01:52):
handedly saved golf on television, looking pretty good and doing it.
I'll give you my thoughts on Tiger the likelihood that
he he wins a major ever again, or he competes
for a major this year. And what I've always said
about my stock I'm a stockholder into Tiger Woods that
up coming in the show. So Cooper Cup, Dwayne Casey,

(02:13):
Jeff Schwartz former offensive lineman of course played with Eli
Manning get his thoughts. Also, I heard Bucky Brooks on
Colin Cowhert saying exactly what I said, which is, I
don't know, we're freaking out of bed, Eli Manning. The
Giants want to have one of the top couple of
picks that they can potentially draft a quarterback. And if
they decide they don't want to draft a quarterback, they
still want to have as high a pick as possible.

(02:37):
But enough about me being right. Let's get to tonight's
football game. Kirk Cousins was drafted where in the draft?
Ryan Music? Do you remember what round? I'm gonna go?
Fourth round? Uh? Dak Prescott was drafted in what round?
John Ramos third? M hm music you want to help out?

(03:00):
I believe it was the fourth as well. Yes, I
think fourth is fourth is correct as well. Um. The
point is not to point out that that that Ramos
has been out sick, he's been under the weather. A
normal man would have been in UH Cedar Sinai hospital
with doctors and nurses. Ramos Ramos still had the ability

(03:21):
to watch a ton of TV. By the way, Ramos,
when you're home sick yesterday, did you do the kid thing?
When you're home sick? Did you watch game shows? Let's
make a deal, and what's the one that follows that one?
The price is right? Did you honestly tell what you did?
I did? I did watch? Uh? Is that honestly? Did

(03:42):
you watch game show? I did I watch those two? Yes?
I did? And then what else did you? Did you
debt Flix? Amazon Prime? Which I don't have it on Prime?
Did some Netflix and just basically ate a lot of soup?
Or can we drank soup? Well? What kind of soup?
Did it? Was? Chunky soup? If you ate a lot
of soup? Um? Alright, So somebody needs that we need

(04:03):
to give We need to give Ramo somebody's Amazon Prime code, right,
I mean, not that, not that anybody. That would be nice.
I appreciate that. I And if you didn't have Netflix,
I would gladly give you my I do have Amazon
Prime code. Here's the problem. I would give you mine.
I actually don't know it. My wife. Yeah, and you
know why I don't know it because I've my wife
has put it into our televisions and in mark my

(04:23):
computer because she knows that I will. I don't like
I understand that in the media, I make money off
of people subscribing to things, with the exception of our podcast,
which is in fact free. You should download that. That
is a shameless plug. But it's been really good the
past a couple of weeks. Um Uh, but I would
gladly give out my code to anybody. I doesn't. I

(04:45):
have this problem with Netflix all the time. We're like, hey,
too many devices, and like too many devices. Oh yeah,
all my friends that have given out my Netflix code
to So she actually got wise, not because she's a
Debbie downer, but she knows that if I get codes,
if I give codes to people, that I also get
codes from people, and so she has stopped my ability
to give codes to people. Otherwise I would give you
my Amazon Prime code. Um alright. That aside, I just

(05:06):
want to point out how spoiled kids are now. When
I was a kid, right, we would have to stay
home and maybe play video games, and if not, we
would have to watch the price is right, let's make
a deal. Uh. Family feud and occasionally some show propers
in the afternoon. Now, these kids these days, they have

(05:28):
their devices, their phones. Hell, they can get on that
internet thing of a jig and can't be anywhere and
watch anything, including Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. All right,
enough about that, let's get back to the game tonight. Um,
it's it's. It is always interesting to watch quarterbacks who

(05:48):
essentially came in with some of the same billing in
the same round and how they're evaluated. But the fact
is that people are now finding fault with Dak Prescott, right,
he's only in his second year, but there was a
reason that he was taken in the fourth round. Um,
And I think you know, the same obviously can be
said with Kirk Cousins that as well as he played,

(06:10):
there have been times in which he's shown his ceiling.
The difference to me is um obviously in the experience
and in the money that's being made that kirk Cousins.
You can find fault with it, and you can say
should he or should he not be given a long

(06:31):
term deal. But kirk Cousins obviously has had a four
thousand yards season and is on track to have yet
another four thousand yards season. On the other hand, he's
being paid commensurate with that level of of of production
as opposed to Dak, who they can't they simply can't
pay him any more money. But the deal with Doak

(06:52):
is that the plan with Dak seemed to be, Hey,
look we're fine at quarterback. We need to fix our
defense in the offseason. And that's the only adjustments that
Dallas made. They expected improvement from Dak into year two.
They expected to have Ezeki Elliott, a solid running game,
the same wide receivers who may be not able to

(07:13):
win on their own, but with the help of another
guy in the box to stop the running game, or
even the running threat of Dak Prescott, the running game
of Zeke Elliott, he would give them a chance to
be as good or better. And so what they did
was they spent most of the offseason trying to fix
the defense, and the defense is a little bit better.
The problem is the defense lost Shawn Lee. The problem

(07:35):
is the offense lost its best player, and so some
of it just kind of works out. And if anything
as planned like this is not actually all that surprising.
It may be surprising to you that Dak isn't more productive,
that Deak isn't better, But I don't think it's it's
all that surprising, like things were going really, really well.

(07:55):
But it was because the offense was always on time.
It was always third and manageable. He had a running
game that people had to respect, and if they didn't
run it, uh Zeke Kelly could also catch down. The
backfield was really good and past protection, you lose all
three phases of running back. And this is what's going
to happen. On the other side, you have Kirk Cousins,
who's been good but not great. And I heard Bucky

(08:19):
Brooks talking about the possibility he could still end up
in San Francisco because there still is that relationship with
Kyle Shanahan. And now we're gonna see Jimmy Garoppolo this
weekend and over the next couple of weekends and they'll
get a chance. Do we want him long term or
do we want to make a trade so that we
can get Kirk Cousins. Tonight, it's a fascinating night in
the NFL. You got the Skins who sit at five

(08:40):
and six. They got two straight difficult road games Cowboys,
and then the Bolts in l A. They get a
little extra time to prepare for for the Chargers, Cardinals
at home, Broncos at home to the on the road,
to the Giants. You cannot get after these two road games,
you cannot get an easier finishing three game kick right.
Mean the Cardinals Cardinals are still competing, but three weeks

(09:03):
from now their playoff hopes will probably be extinct. The
Broncos have absolutely no offense, and there's a ton of
infighting and issues, and the Giants are complete and total
dumpster fire. Like if you're the Redskins and you can
simply win this week, you can't guarantee that you'll be
at nine wins, but you feel really good about playing
with house money when you come out to l A
next week, as opposed to the to the to the Cowboys,

(09:27):
the Cowboys finishing stretches like this, Redskins at home, Giants
on the road, winnable game to the Raiders Bears to
be a winnable game. They have their own issues. Seahawks
at home difficult, but remember the Seahawks don't have Chancellor. Uh,
they don't have um what's his name? They're they're there,
Richard Sherman, right, and then they faced the Eagles on

(09:49):
the road. Like both of these teams actually have, and
you say Eagles, and everybody thinks I'm saying Eagles are
going to destroy them. That's the Eagles. Week seventeen of
the season. That's when you rest guys for the playoffs,
even though they have three remaining road games, two of
them against non playoff teams, and you'll be playing the
Philadelphia Eagle backups in Week seventeen. Like this has become

(10:10):
a really important game, a really telling game for both quarterbacks.
Cousins should be ahead of Dak Prescott, but Dak is
at home and Dax had extra time to prepare for
a normal Thursday night game like tonight's game Thursday. This
is an interesting game, so I'm in on it now.
I think Cousins is demonstrably better demonsterns. What's the word music,

(10:36):
what's the word demonstra Demonstratively better? Is that demonstratively better? Demonstrable?
We can go ahead and say that that's it. Demonstratively
demonstratively That's what I was missing another t demonstratively better.
But that's also because of the time spent in the NFL.
Like Cousins lacks like the pure armed talent. He's not

(11:00):
a great athlete, he doesn't have a great arm, he
doesn't have great size. He does have a good brain, okay,
but sometimes the ball doesn't come out, doesn't come out
as hot as it would against the elite talents like that.
That's there's a reason he was a fourth round guy.
And the same as true with Dak. Dak's got a
big body. He's got good legs, but not a freak athletically,

(11:22):
though he has good arm strength, not crazy accurate, and
though he's bright, it's not like he's a It's not
like he's a professor up there with only a year
and a half. These guys are are flawed and good
enough to win with, but not good enough to carry you.
That's what you have in both of these quarterbacks and

(11:43):
Cousins is just more refined, more developed, and more comfortable
within this system. There's any football is interesting. I hate
to say it, but there's an old cliche and it
comes to raising animals. That absolutely makes sense as to
why the Oklahoma City Thunder are struggling defensively. And everybody said,

(12:08):
we hate cliches, but there's a reason cliches do in
fact exist. Right. We'll get to that upcoming next, but first,
here are some helpful car tips you may not know about.
If your cars are stuck in the snow, use your
floor mats for extra traction and for perfect garage parking,
hang a tennis ball so that it touches your windshield
and you don't plow through your backyard. Finally, here's another

(12:29):
thing you might not know, but that's also really helpful.
True Car also helps you buy used cars. That's right.
True Car isn't just for buying new cars. With their
certified dealer network and nationwide inventory of nearly one million
used cars, you'll enjoy real pricing on actual inventory and
a simpler buying experience where you buy new or used.
Here's something else you might not know. True Car users
can see what others paid, so they know if you're

(12:50):
getting a good deal for what they're buying. They're also
more likely to enjoy a faster buying experience. Here, buy
a car like this takes for it. I just want
the car, and I want to drive at home. Connecting
with True Car certified dealers can speed up that process dramatically.
So if you're ready to buy a new or even
a used car, go to a True Car. You're gonna
enjoy a more confident car buying experience, some features not

(13:13):
available in all states. With True Car, you can find
out what other people in your area paid for the
same car you're looking for, and on average save over
three m s r P. Whether you're looking for a
new or used car, Visit True Car and enjoying more
confident car buying experience. Here's what the cowboys and the

(13:36):
Redskins are actually kind of guilty of, and they're not
really guilty of it, right, Settling. Settling. Now, look at
every guy here settling, and they think it's a bad word. Right.
If you think you are settling, you think of um,
whether you're a woman or a man, accepting the fact

(13:58):
that whoever you marry is not at the level to
which you desire to achieve, or in terms of your job,
instead of reaching for the brass ring, you chose a
a lesser job in perception or maybe in financial compensation
for other reasons. So settling has a not negative connotation.
But settling is also a really really mature thing to do, right,

(14:23):
because there there are a limited number of Aaron rodgers
Is and Tom Brady's and um, I mean I even
you know Drew brees Is when he was in his
prime of the world. They're just there's like five guys
on earth that are that good. And so sometimes you
have to you have to settle. And it's not a

(14:44):
bad thing, it's a smart thing. Now. Look, I I've
chased after the brass ring in my profession, and I
can tell you that what I left behind I was
pretty darned good. Now, if you think well, almost always
work out for driven people, and you'll ultimately find maybe

(15:05):
a better place. And if you want to go with
the things happen for a reason. People say things happen
for a reason. Um, it's usually when they're gonna try
and talk you into something good after something bad happens. Right,
Nobody ever says that when just you automatically you win
the lottery, well, else things happen for a reason. They're

(15:25):
just trying to talk you up. But the truth is
that most things you end up, you know, working out.
But we have this negative connotation about settling, like sometimes
you're just making a really accurate decision as to what
you're what the best fit is for you, and how
to make it work around those things. You don't take

(15:48):
the job that pays twenty grand more because you have
to uproot your kids and they're really happy in your
school and you're happy in life. Don't mess with happy?
Is that settling? I guess a right like that. The
Washington Redskins yearn for something a little bit better than
Kirk Cousins. That's reasonable, that's reasonable. I mean all of

(16:09):
our wives wish we would lose ten pounds, and all
the husband's wish the wife would, you know, spend more
attention on us, work out constantly, take care of the kids,
dinner ready every night, and then ready to go to
hang out with daddy, right like we all. But the
realities is you have to break down your day and
sometimes you're just too exhausted. So your wife settled on you.

(16:34):
You settled there in your wife or on your girlfriend.
Like we look at his negative conotation. Sometimes it's just it.
It's actually the smart thing to do. Two. Take advantage
of what you have in front of you, make the
best out of it, and form the best possible life
or in this case, the best possible team. That's all

(16:55):
the Cowboys did. Cowboys had Romo, but he got hurt.
They end up getting dak in. They're like, wow, we
got a diamond in the rough, and they did. But
they just kind of settled, right. They didn't push the
envelope of making Dac better, of challenging him to to
think not why, because instead get a really good defense,
a really good line in a dominant running game. And
will you know that that's a formula that is tested

(17:18):
and worked and when suspensions happened, in injuries happened, best
laid plans of myce and men often go awry. They
settled on Dak Prescott, Okay. Now the Oklahoma City Thunder,
on the other hand, chose not to settle. They chose
to go for it. You know, they had Russell Westbrook,

(17:40):
and so they tried to support Russell Westbrook. Who can
we go out and get the best players possible. It's
a star driven league. And so they traded two of
their rotation players, one starter on actually two starters. I
mean in the all time h best best trades called
the worst trades. Think of what the Indiana Pacers did.

(18:03):
It got killed on every national radio show except this one.
Doma Sabonis was in his first year. He started half
the year with the Thunder, and Victor Oladipo was under
contract for like three or four more years, and yeah
he was disappointing with the Thunder, but he's not bad.
You've got two starters for Paul George, who wanted to
leave anyway, and you had to trade. Ah, I can't

(18:26):
see how that's a bad trade. So you go to
for one. There, you go too for one trade in
Cantor and McDermott, and you get Carmelo Anthony and now
the Oklahoma City Thunder are a little bit of a mess.
Can't guard anybody, can't stop anybody, and most importantly, can't
win games. But shouldn't we have seen this coming? What's

(18:49):
the cliche about dogs? Right? You can't teach an old
dog new tricks. And you know why it's cliche because
it's been used over and over again. You know why
else it's cliche because it's true. You can't like dogs.
Are I have had? Let's see here, how many dogs
in my head? When I was a kid, I had.
We had three dogs, Peanuts, Cocoa, and Brandy. Brandy wasn't

(19:12):
very nice. I don't even remember how Brandy died. Cocoa
I think ran away, which probably means got eaten by
a coyote. And then Peanuts got out One day and
like nobody chased step peanuts. We we moved to California
eight one. We went to the beach. First day lifeguard
found a stray mutt, and of course we begged and
pleaded my mom to let us bring the mut home
and leave up signs everywhere. Nobody came to clean the mutt,

(19:34):
and we end up having us our dog. Then we
went like four or four years or so without a dog,
and then we got a Gold Retriever named Casey that
I had a gold in them, a Gold Retriever named Hank.
And now there's Gus, who's fourteen. I've had Bandit a
bassant Hound, Bentley a bassant Hound, and now we have
Odell Beckham Junior. Junior is a sheepadoodle. And I can
tell you on equivocally, once they get to be an

(19:55):
old dog, you are not teaching them new tricks. It
is a cliche, but it is a true and overused
a true cliche, like you're not gonna go up to
a thirteen year old do and go hold on, hold on, sit,
lay down, roll over? Why won't he listen? And so
I guess we're supposed to be surprised that the thunder

(20:16):
we've lost three in a row. The Thunder, who are
two and nine on the road. A Thunder can't stop anybody.
I guess that's what we're supposed to be. They go
to Orlando and give up a hundred and twenty one points.
They lose to the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks are terrible.
They score eighty one. Give up Dirk Davitsky. Can't move

(20:40):
anymore and he has nineteen. Can't move, couldn't contain west Matthews,
couldn't contain Dennis Smith. And it should be pointed out
that that Dallas had a hot shooting game, made fifteen threes,
but so too did Oklahoma City making a thirteen. I'm
not putting everything on Carmelo Anthony, but there's a flaw

(21:03):
to the construct of this team when you put together
three elite scores. The way the Thunder were always built
was you had two scores and then you had the
rest of the guys. Could all really really defend? And
Russell Westbrook, though he gets he has a reputation of
playing hard every night, he takes plays off. He takes
nights off defensively, and Paul George's as for the last

(21:27):
half decade, been the best player in in Indiana where
you don't have to play hard every night defensively, and
Carmelo Anthony is the old dog. You can't teach new
tricks too. Not only is he being forced to play
more defense, but because of how the NBA has changed,
he's forced to guard power forwards who shootout and centers
who shoot all the way out to three and getting

(21:49):
caught up and switching on guards like he can't move Latterly,
you true, it's you train your body for fifteen years
as a pro to do everything is a score. You
don't train your body to be an active defender, to
be agile defensively. And now when you're in your thirties,

(22:10):
you're at the end of the prime of your career.
You're being asked to do things that you've never done before.
Go for that, try that like you're just You're not
going to a dog and teaching new tricks. That is
just not happening. Add to that the fact they don't
have great depth because they trade away four for two

(22:33):
and you have yourselves a team that's eight and twelve
on the year. After getting blown out and embarrassed the
hands of the Orlando Magic, let's get to see the
Steven Steager and find out what's going on with Tiger Woods,
who's playing in his first tournament in over a year. Yeah,
it's in the Bahamas, the Hero World Challenge. It is
a field of eight teen golfers. Wood is currently tied

(22:54):
for second at four under parties on the fifteenth hole.
He's only two back of the leader, Tommy Fleetwood. Just
Ston Rose is tied for second with Woods and Kevin
Chappell and Dustin Johnson Ricky Fowler, and they're tied for
second as well two strokes back. The NFL game tonight Dallas,
losers of three straight hosting Washington Carolina tight end Greg Olsen,
with a sore foot, was held out of practice again.

(23:16):
The Browns say wide receiver Josh Gordon will start Sunday,
finally returning from suspension. He will face the a f
c's Defensive Player of the Months defensive back Casey Hayward
at the l A Chargers this weekend. Vikings quarterback case
Keenum is the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month. Tom
Brady won the a f C Award. Ohio State quarterback JT.
Barrett will play Saturday night, although he had arthur scopic

(23:38):
knee surgery last Sunday. According to the Columbus Dispatch, this
weekend's Big Ten title game will be on Fox TV.
Ohio State against Wisconsin Saturday, eight pm Eastern time. Ole
Miss football is due to get its n c double
A ruling on in Fractions tomorrow morning. Fifteen Level one
violations were being investigated. The Angels acquired veteran reliever Jim
Johnson from the Braves. The form closers c r A

(24:01):
was five point five six last season, and he earned
five million dollars in the NBA. Tonight, the Cabs won
nine straight. They're playing at Atlanta Tonight's the Hawks four
and sixteen. Back to you stug Olip Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. Cooper Cup is gonna join us in
about fifteen minutes. We'll talk about this Tiger Woods thing.
But I look, I have a lot of friends in

(24:21):
the golf industry. Friends that work for the p g
A tour, friends that work for golf magazines that cover golf,
for UH for websites, and I got a couple of
friends that are professional golfers. And I got a buddy
who works for the golf to a good friend who
works at Brian Burr, who works for the Golf Channel,
and they are this is a really really big day.

(24:42):
There's a lot of what the What the Lakers did
last night in competing against the Golden State Warriors is
honestly kind of what you're looking for with Tiger Woods.
And and obviously Tiger Woods has been proven beyond a
reasonable doubt to be the greatest golfer in the modern
era of golf. So it's not like he has to

(25:04):
prove himself, but he has to prove himself yet again
that he can beat competitive. He didn't need to win
this thing to win the weekend. He just needs to
look like he could win this thing to win the weekend.
And the same is true for Um for the for
the the l a Lakers like they didn't need to

(25:25):
beat the thunder last night. I'm season to beat the
Warriors last night, but to push them to overtime, to
get Brandon Ingram playing as well as he did, Lonzo
Ball making some shots in the first half, to see
the competitiveness against against the Warriors. I think last night
was a huge night for the young Lakers, and that's
kind of what we're seeing so far. From Tiger. Let's

(25:47):
get to a game big. This is game time Tide
on the Doug Gottlieb Show programming note, Um, Dan fire
he is, Uh, he's not in today, but no, Romas
did not kiss him and make him sick. He kissed him,
but he didn't get sick. What happened? Uh? Dan Buyer

(26:07):
believes doing the Jason Smith Show. Right, that's correct. That's
a late night show. So hopefully he's taking an app
not listing Ryan Ryan Music is gonna host a game
Game time when he got Ryan. All right, Doug, let's
play a little let's play this. That's all right, So
we'll start off in some college football. Doug. First one here,

(26:28):
guess who the University of Tennessee finally hired to be
their head football coach. But they didn't hire anybody be
their head football coach. Yeah, that's correct. It was a
trick question. They still haven't found anyone to be their
head coach. Bruce Feldman, who regularly joins the show Fox
Sports One and Sports, illustrated his reporting that Texas A

(26:50):
and M's former head coach Kenvins Kevin Sumlin is their
current target. Uh. North Carolina States Dave Dorrin this morning declined,
and we'll stay at North Carolina State, along with Mike Gundy,
Jeff Brom and of course this all started with the
Greg Shiato debacle. So you were correct, they have not
found anyone. I know there's a sentiment out there of

(27:12):
my media brethren that don't like search firms, but all
of this would have been handled far differently if there
was a search firm. Search firms don't pick coaches. They
simply align you with five dream candidates that probably won't
take the job, but you need to see if they'll
take the job. Uh, and maybe five or ten candidates
to which would take the job you should really consider,
and they allow your process to play out. They do

(27:34):
so usually in private. They keep things much more hush hush.
Plenty of jobs are offered and turned down. The problem
with this is because you don't have a search firm,
you don't have anybody keeping it quiet. It's becoming public
and it's becoming more and more embarrassing. I think Kevin
some would be an outstanding higher coach in the league.
He'd be the first African American head coach in Tennessee history. Um,

(27:56):
I don't think he got a raw deal at A
and M. I think a m UH is a little
bit crazy, and he built up the expectations to be
um hard to obtain. On the other hand, he struggled
to keep quarterbacks. All the quality recruit quarterbacks he had,
they would get benched and then they would transfer. Kyler
Murray next year started Oklahoma, perfect example of that. UM.

(28:18):
Kenny Hill, who's starting at at TCU for in the
in the Big Twelve championship game, was a starter at
Texas m before he got pulled. So it wasn't recruiting
with him at first, it was the defense, and then
it was uh quarterback play, which ultimately did him in.
I think some of them be a good higher. The
problem is that the process has been so public and
so publicly flogged and flawed that uh, it's it's really

(28:42):
not been not been a good couple of weeks here
at Tennessee. Let's stick with college football. Doug guess who
had minor knee surgery over the weekend but will play
in their conference championship game on Saturday. J T. Barrett,
that's curve exit. Doug. We talked about this a little
bit sort of interesting story about hurting his knee because

(29:04):
of a cameraman on the sideline. Urban Meyer told the
media that he did have surgery to sort of clean
out that knee on Sunday, but he is good to
go against Wisconsin for the Big Ten Championship, which signals
to me, now, if you have uh, there's there's two
different types of scope. They go in and they have
to fix the meniscus. H, then you're gonna be out
for like six weeks, maybe longer. If they go out

(29:27):
and you just have a little fraid meniscule tear, they
could just cut it out and usually it's a week
or two weeks that you're out. Um, but it will
be interesting to keep his keep your eye like they
did go in there, and going in there takes a
while to come back from before you feel right. And uh,
considering he didn't feel right and had to come out
of the game, that's not great. Getting ready to play Wisconsin.

(29:47):
All right, we'll get one more here, final one. Let's
turn to the NFL. Though. Guess who in the NFL
could become the first team since the Greatest Show on Turf. St.
Louis Rams to win at least five games in a
row by a minimum of twenty points. Who could guess
which NFL team today if they went on Sunday by

(30:08):
more than twenty points, will become the first team to
win five in a row by at least twenty eagles.
That's correct. I was actually surprised that there was no
two thousand seven, two thousand eight Patriots on that list. No,
they had. They had some close games there, especially at
the end of the season. They blew some teams out early, early, early,

(30:30):
and that's that season they had you or they're putting
up ridiculous numbers. Tom Brady through fifty touchdown passes that year.
But there are plenty of games later on the season
that we're very competitive, including the Giants game last game
with the regular season. This is game time on the
Duck Gottlieb Show. Yeah. I've always said that that Patriots

(30:51):
team is super interesting because they won eighteen in a row.
They were eighteen and o going into the Super Bowl.
But they're not regarded as one of the great teams
of all time, even though they only lost one football
game on a couple of incredible plays an incredible pass
rush from the New York Giants. I consider them one
of the great teams of all time, But sports wise,

(31:13):
I guess we're not supposedly able to because they didn't
win that last game. Cooper Cup joins the show up
coming next, I'll ask him about bouncing back from that
look he had he dropped the ball against the Seattle Seahawks,
had to bounce back from that one could have won
the game for the Rams. And then he had a
tough game against the Vikings. Big fumble right at the
end zone, big drop deep in Vikings territory. But Cup

(31:36):
keeps bouncing back and keeps performing. What is he drawn
to not get caught thinking about his mistakes of his past?
We'll ask the Rams star young wide receiver. Next, and
the Doug Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, broadcasting live from
the studios of Fox Sports Radio. Here's Doug Gottlie what

(32:01):

your area paid for the same car you're looking for,
new or used. Visit True Car to enjoy more confident
car buying experience. Doug Gottlib Show, Fox Boards Radio. Ramost
does do you guys have an Elf on the shelf
or your kids too old for the Alpha? Now they

(32:22):
do the Elf? Lucas loves the elf. Do you like
the elf? I do, just you know what you have
to do with the elf? Dot takes some time magically
not touch it because magically over the elf magically moves.
You are correct for all the kids out there, Yes, yeah,
it's amazing. Yeah listen, um, I enjoy our elf. Our

(32:43):
elf is a He's a funny little sucker. I mean
he he reappeared in a in a in a bowl
of skittles, uh, quoting rapplers to my quoting rapplers to
my son. So it's kind of kind of remarkable. So
uh yeah, my my son has asked Santa for a
hoverboard in a skateboard, and so I need to write
Santa Santa no on the hoverboard and probably not on

(33:07):
the skateboard. My the worst parent ever to not go
to to go like, I don't know about the skateboard
because he's too young you think to ride a skateboard,
or you just don't want him writing it, or Santa,
I'm sorry, Santa doesn't want him writing it. No. No,
I mean I can tell saying I can mix it
with Santa. I mean, I mean he likes his bike.
I don't know, I get it with the skateboard. But

(33:27):
I was just like my dad, My dad, you said,
never want me to ride skateboards when I was younger.
Tell me somebody who rides a skateboard outside of Tony Hawk.
You're like, like that dude's awesome. Give me the Give
me the dude who's the skateboarder? Like that guy is amazing?
Like this, there is there a champion in business who

(33:48):
rides a skateboard. Plenty of people ride their bike. Plus,
I kind of want Santa to bring him one of
those big, fat tired bikes. I don't know what they're
I could just call him fat tires. I don't know.
Do you guys know? I'm talking about the the cruisers
with huge fat wheels. They almost fly, they're so fat
they are they are fat, um, But why would you

(34:10):
need that? In southern California. The cruisers with the huge wheels.
Aren't those for like running on the beach? Oh? I thought?
Because they had big, thick wheels, they were meant for
like off roading, to go over rocks and stuff. Not
like you can go over rocks, but not really like
no that those are more mountain bikes. It's more for looks.
But you know, look, they'll still tell you they'll sell

(34:32):
you out of like no, listen, it's a smoother ride
because there's more tire surface, and you can ride it
on the beach because there's more tire surface. But mostly
it's just for looks. I can, I can get on
board with the hoverboard. Those things seem like there's constantly
videos of people eating it and not necessary. But the skateboard,
come on, let let him be a skater. He lives

(34:53):
in southern California. Skateboarding to the beach, skateboard. It's just
such a negative annotation the skateboarders. Part of it is
honestly a little bit of jealousy because I can't skateboard
like I was one of those kids I could do
I could do anything, but I can never always just
a terrible skateboarder. I mean, I never put any time
into it. And I guess maybe some of it is

(35:15):
you're gonna put time into skateboard and you won't put
time in anything else. Mm hmm. We'll see what Santa does.
So these are difficult decisions. I'm just fired up because
he also we think that he should ask Santa for
like an Xbox one. Um, have you seen the new
PlayStation deal though, where you can kind of take it
anywhere you can, like you can you can set up

(35:37):
your buddies can bring over the device and they can
play it too. I just don't know anybody who does it.
I've always been an Xbox guy, always, always, always, all right,
let's um, let's turn to the Nashtional Football League where
Cooper Cup joins us. He of course, uh, he joined
us earlier in the NFL season. By the way, Love

(35:57):
has an army. You can help join the fight, help
the Salvation Army fight for those in need all of
our community this Christmas by going to Fox sport trader
dot com click down the red kettle icon to donate
called one A three three Salve Joy. That's one three
three sald join Uh, Coop, you have this weekend is
the my Cause my Cleats weekend. You're doing something with

(36:19):
four square missions international, right, Yeah, that's right. Um, just
some uh a friend of mine on the football team
back in eastern Washington. M His parents are currently over
in Cambodia. They actually moved the whole life over there.
You know that I sold the house and I've kind
of living there full time. And um, you're helping kind
of serve the people over there and kind of raising

(36:41):
up the kids and um, you know, to be leaders
in the future. All right, So what do your cleats
look like? Have you seen them yet? I've seen the design.
I haven't seen them in person yet. Um, but they're
gonna have the Cambodian colors on them. Um for some uh,
you know, Cambodian Ryan on it. Dello ago. I'll till
I get a picture for the game. Do you know

(37:03):
what it says in Camboni And you're just gonna take
somebody's word for it. No, I know what. I know
what it says that I mean, I'll say you guys
when it comes out. Uh. Cooper Cup joining us on
the Doug Gottlieb Show. Obviously, you had eight catches hundred
sixteen yards. Great win at the Coliseum against the Saints,
but I think it was especially important to you coming off.
You know, you had the big fumble at the goal

(37:24):
line and then you had a big drop against the Vikings.
The fumble really game game was it was I think
seven seven or fourteen seven at the time against against
the Vikings. This is the second time which you had
to bounce back from usually sure handed dropped something around
the end zone Seahawks game as well, What what helped you?
How how do you how do you you know, drag
over to your trash and delete what happened in Minnesota,

(37:46):
what happened against Seattle and play so well against No. Orleans.
I think the important thing is just being able to
learn from it, um, first of all, and uh, you know,
I think there's something you've been said about not just
dismissing what happened. I mean obviously was from mistakes and
um plays that I want to be making. And UM,
so I mean you have to learn from those mistakes

(38:06):
and carry those forwards. But at the same time, you
have to not let it hinder you, so you can't uh,
and you know, prepare and uh be ready for that
next week, you know. And then I felt like you
got seven days to prepare for this next team coming
in if you're carrying over stuff in the week before
and you know things are gonna go well for you. Um,
you know it's an imperfect GAMEC Well, I don't think

(38:27):
there's anyone in the league right now that you can
say they've never made a mistake as all the years
they played football, So, um, you know, it's the most thing.
You know, it's a learning experience day and day out,
whether it's making plays that win games, are making ones
that um, you know, are are affecting your team negatively. Um,
you know you have to learn from them. You have
to move on. I heard that when you had to

(38:47):
drop against Seattle that to a man, almost everybody in
the offense came over and said something to you after
the game at your locker. Is that accurate? Yeah? I know.
And that's the testament to the guys we have here. Um,
you know, an incredible group of guys of great football
players that, um, you're just worthing able to encourage me
and um, when you have that in locker room as well,

(39:08):
I mean that definitely helps. How how much different is
it now? Going from the Hunter start of the year,
not a ton of expectations for Jared down a ton
of a a lot of curiosity more than anything, to
now everyone knows that you're a tend tend catch a
game guy. Everybody knows you guys have a high powered offense.
You're you know, you're eight and three, You're in first

(39:29):
place in your division. How much different actually is it now?
That people not only have a book on you, but
the book says that you're really good and you're the
hunt dead, not the hunter. Well, you know, for us
in the locker room, and nothing's changed. You know, we
try to, um, we try to listen to any of
the noise, whether that's good, good or bad. And uh,
you know, our mentality in the locker room has never changed,
and um, it won't change. Um. You know, we're gonna

(39:51):
attack the week, week in, week out, prepared to get
better and better each and every day. And um, you know,
regardless of what people are saying about other people expectations
are doesn't change our Our expectations are for ourselves. Yeah,
and look your schedules backload. You got to go to
Arizona that's still in this fight, Gotta go to Seattle,
I gotta go to Tennessee. All and you have the
Eagles at home. All four playoffs caliber teams in a row.

(40:14):
Cooper cups our guest here on the Doug Gotlip Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Um, yeah, look, it's it's been
fascinating to watch you guys kind of kind of evolved
now that you've seen most of the league, Like, is
it reasonable to think that, uh, that competing for a
Super Bowl is not out of the question at all. Well, no,
I wouldn't say that. I don't think, Uh, I mean

(40:35):
I don't. I don't think even goes into the season
without you know, expecting to win games and are expecting
and having that ultimate going mind. But just like anything,
you have that ultimate goal in mind, but there's always
a lot of steps along the way that you've got
focused on. And um, it's that day to day mindset
that the daily improvement, daily excellence that's gonna get you there,
and um, you know, so our expectation is to be

(40:56):
able to perform at the highest level, to play at
the highest level, but there's lots of steps along on
the way that we have to get through first. Like
you said, you know, there's some very good teams coming up,
and you know we've got the Arizona this weekend, and
that's where our purposes right now. Alright, really quickly. My
son is a burgeoning wide receiver. He's eight years old.
He wants a skateboard. Should I let a kid who
wants to be a wide receiver get a skateboard? Hey?

(41:16):
Our skateboard? I was my dad wasn't but you know
something you know as a kid, I love you all
there and skateboard and do all the different things that
you know kids do. So um, you know it didn't
it didn't you hurt me, so obviously go for it,
all right, He'll he'll go skate or die. He'll go,
he'll shred it up and he'll he'll be the next
Cooper Cup. Coop, thanks so much for joining us. This

(41:37):
is a great cause. We look forward to seeing the
Cambodian style cleets and best of luck this weekend against
the Cardinals. Thank you very much. I appreciate all right.
That's Cooper Cup joining us on the Doug Gotlip Show.
He is okayed Santa bringing my son a skateboard. We'll
see if the big fellow listens. He's bigger than Lebron.
He's bigger, frankly than Jordan's Brady Peyton manning. An entire

(41:59):
sport depends on him. How's he doing? We discussed next
in The Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio Booming Up America,
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. It is a Thursday,
which gives us Thursday Night Football, Thursday Night Basketball, thurs
A night college football oh and Tiger Day, Tiger Day.

(42:24):
That's right. You're like, what who Eldrick Tiger? Would e
t W two some Tiger to others? Or that guy
who used to be the greatest golfer in the world
and is now the punchline for so many jokes, right, uh?
Like he was of of all these guys who I mean,

(42:45):
like I tweeted this yesterday, can you believe that? Um?
Like if you would have gone on a prop bet
and you would have said, Brian Miller, Brian Williams, um
on a prop bet with um, some of these other

(43:06):
guys let's just say hmm, with Charlie Charlie Rose, Matt
Lower and Brian Williams, who lasts the longest on network TV.
And I know that Williams is now on nb MSNBC
or whatever. Like you go back a month ago and
no one in the world bets on Brian Williams. No

(43:30):
one in the world bets on Brian Williams. But now, okay,
but before before Hollywood and before broadcast News and before
Russell Simmons all got their come up, and due to
things that they did too and did with women, there

(43:53):
was Tiger Woods. And I've told people before like, look,
I'm not okaying Tiger's behavior. Tiger has never married to me,
he was never alleged to do anything illegal. What he
was alleged to have done was in fact immoral. But
Tiger also is a is a little bit of a
victim of of timing. You know, if you if you

(44:14):
went into back when you know Jordan's and some of
his cohorts, when when he came up and Tiger Woods
came up, like some of that behavior could be par
for the course for the elite level superstars like Magic
Johnson contracted HIV. His wife Cookie does not have HIV.

(44:37):
Do I need to explain any further? So, so this
idea that like he's the worst, and well he was
a guy who got caught I would guess well obviously
stepping out of his marriage, but also in that foregone
era of where where we in the media turned turned
a blind eye. Uh you compile? I owe that with

(45:01):
the devastating injuries to his knee, his achilles, and of
course most recently his back, and Tiger Tiger has been
more of a punchline. Now it should be noted that
four years ago, two thousand thirteen, he didn't win a major,
but he did win more tournaments than anybody on earth.
He was he was too a player of the year.

(45:21):
Take a listen to this call earlier today on the
Golf Channel apps the most highly anticipated December round of golf.
For the first time in three hundred one days, Tiger
Woods is playing competitively for the world to witness. Takes
this one up the left side. It's gonna test that bunker.
The second bunker up the left, It's gonna need a

(45:42):
good bounce. Oh, he gets that good bunt. The bunker
got the bounce and just does find the fairway. Now,
I have a couple of beliefs here. I believe you
can't be too drunk to fish. And I believe that
you are never too old to play golf. Um And
and if you know, Arnold, if Jack Nicholas can win

(46:05):
a major in his forties, then why can't Tiger Woods.
And if you want to tell me that, all right,
he'll wear down, he will. He doesn't have to win
a bunch of other majors. But with his body and
his mind completely in tatters. Uh and and the shrapnell
still not pulled out from from him personally, He's still

(46:27):
been able to compete when healthy at the Master's. Matter
of fact, his first Masters after the crash, he finished
fourth fourth of the Masters. He could play that course
blindfolded and still finished in the top fifteen. So maybe
it's that I've been at I've I'm I'm still holding

(46:48):
onto my Tiger stock, right. America loves a good comeback story.
Alex Rodriguez, you know, suspended twice. First after his first
big suspend, should come into the Yankees and uh he
still won the World Series m v P. And then
after his second suspension and he was jettison from the team,

(47:09):
they asked him to retire early, going back a year
and a half ago. Like Alex Rodriguez right now is
in discussion to be the Yankees manager. He is one
of he is one of the most well regarded TV
analysts in his sport. Like there is second life and
third life for all kinds of guys. If you have

(47:30):
talent and if you have your health, it's a huge
day for the entire sport of golf. Like there was
no Nike Golf before Tiger. And if you want to
track Nike Golf and the Nike clubs, which now you
cannot find, they do not sell anywhere. It tracks directly

(47:52):
in line with when Tiger was playing. When Tiger was
not playing, it doesn't matter the clubs weren't any good.
People still bought him. Why because the Tiger Woods. I mean, like, look,
if you like watching golf on TV, if you enjoy
watching good round of golfing, you should root for Tiger,
even if you hate Tiger. And if you like Tiger well,
then you should be pleasantly surprised with how well he's

(48:14):
playing and how healthy he looks. Ramasu, Team Tiger or
you you you're done with Tiger, You've seen enough and
you're ready to move on. No, I I definitely am
with you. I think that it's good for him and golf,
good for him to be there, and I think America
loves to see somebody get up off the ground and
come back. So all the power to him. See if

(48:36):
you can regain the glory years. I guess we would say,
I don't know if everybody. I don't know if if
everyone's um, if everyone in America roots for a comeback story.
I think there's plenty of trolls out there who will
always mention us some of the things that he's alleged
to have done. But I do believe that, I do

(48:58):
believe that your sensibilities are about in line with everybody else.
And you don't have to feel bad for rooting for Tiger.
Like it's not one of those things where like if
your wife's like, how can you root for Tiger? Like, look,
I'm not rooting for him to cheat on whoever he's
dating now or what happened with him in Etland. But
I think the golf world is better when he's out
there and he's competitive music. What about you, You're a

(49:20):
little bit you're old enough to remember prime Tiger, but uh,
you're not quite old enough to. I mean, most of
your adult life has been Tiger seen negatively more than positively. Yeah,
I mean I always told this to Dan Buyer, who's
not here today. He'll be filling it on the Jason
Smith Show. But Dan was always a big golf guy,

(49:41):
and when we've kind of seen this ebb and flow
of his Tiger back him having an injury, what I
always told Dan was that I remember, when I was younger,
Tiger Woods made golf cool because what I always ever
thought of golf before Tiger Woods was like, it's an
old man's thing, like ay, my dad kind of does
it or with his friends, And it was never something

(50:03):
that you ever really looked at and was like, hey,
golf looks like it's a cool thing. And then Tiger
Woods started dominating and it really sort of took on
that life of hey, you can be really cool and
be a golfer. That's how I've always thought of Tiger Uh. Yeah,
I would. I would generally tend to agree right, Like,
golf was not cool, y'all. Golf was not. Now, I

(50:24):
did not grow up in a country club community, but
I would. I would generally tend to tend to agree
with that. I tend to agree with that, And I
was just gonna say, and so because of that, I
always tend to root with Tiger Woods. And so I know,
as you were sort of saying, that doesn't mean that
I can agree with everything that he did or that,

(50:44):
you know, his personal life stuff. But in terms of
I have no problem separating his personal life from what
he does on a golf course. That's just me because
he didn't do anything like he wasn't physically abusive towards
his wife, like those things that are sort of non
non physical or whatever however you want to term it.
But I just that's why I'm able to separate it.

(51:07):
Steve to Segard, Tigers has finished his round. He just
completed around, just put it in. Uh did he shoot
what I thought he shot? You're correct? Uh, he's had
a sixty nine. Where is he on the leaderboard? Well,
they're only eighteen golfers, so he's tied for seven. She's
dead in the middle. But it's eighteen. There's no u uh,

(51:29):
there's no rummies in this thing. There's no who the
heck is that? This is a pretty alright. Ricky Fowler,
Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson. Yeah, Ricky still leading one back. Yeah,
he's on the final human there is. Yes, there's plenty
of punchline jokes to sixty nine and Tiger Woods finishing
with the sixty nine. But the world is better when
Tiger is good at golf. It just is. The NBA

(51:53):
is better when the Knicks are good, Bulls are good,
Lakers are good, Celtics are good. Like, it's just better.
The NFL is better when the Cowboys are at least
good at least one year. Um, the Packers are good,
you know, like you you want stars to come out
and there has been never been a bigger star than
Tiger Woods. But I think that today is a lot
like a lot like the Lakers last night against the

(52:16):
Golden State Warriors. The Lakers didn't have to win to win.
Tiger Woods doesn't have to win to win. You just
have to look like in the future you're going to
be competitive against the best of the best. And yeah,
this is only eighteen holes, only eighteen holes, But so far,
so good for the new look Eldrick Tiger Woods, who

(52:38):
looks like a young It looks like a young forty one.
He's forty one, right, I think trying to remember exactly
when his birthday is. I think he's forty one, Yeah,
forty two. End of December. Yeah, is it December? What
is what is his birthday? That's like December. Yeah, it's

(52:59):
right at the end of the here. Yeah. Um, Like, look,
I remember he grew up in Orange County in southern California,
and I remember hearing stories about Tiger Woods, and I just,
you know, I didn't know who he was and obviously
burst on the scene. Um, but uh, I'm I'm team Tiger.
I've been holding onto my Tiger stock even when it
became a penny stock and watching him today gives me

(53:21):
hope that he can put together a good season and
if he if he's relatively healthy, there's a dude you
know will be competitive at Augusta Raptors head coach Dwayne
Casey joins the show. I'll ask him what it's like
to be playing in the Eastern Conference when when we
only talk about two teams in the Eastern Conference and
his team is not one of them. That's upcoming next.

(53:42):
You've heard me talk about the amazing shave I get
with my Dollar Shave Club Razor. I use it in
conjunction with my doctor shut Carver's shave butter Well, I'm

(54:23):
Eye in the Nashville, I did the radio show, I
did a game in Bowling Green, Kentucky four hours and
I got to the hotel room and I stank, like
really stank. And then I reached into my DoPT kit
and I got out my my Dollar Shape Club stuff.
I took a shower, I shaved, and I was like, man,
I fell, and I smell and feel like a million bucks.

Doug Olive Show, Fox Sports Radio, keep an eye on

(55:32):
Tiger Woods, who shot a sixty nine. Now everybody's kind
of reaction to Tiger being back on some level. And
then you know, like you hold your breath because part
of being great at golf is it's not unlike any
other professional sport. Can you do it the second day?
Can you do it the third day? Can you do
it the fourth day? I mean, that's really the story
of the n b A is some of these made

(55:53):
for TV games we watch and we're like, we make
an assessment. That's who the team is, but it's can
you consistently consistently improved? Can you consistently compete? And a
team who has kind of quietly got in their season
going in the right direction, especially over the last I
don't know ten games are selling in there like seven
and three, eight and three over the last ten eleven games.

(56:14):
Is the Toronto Raptors. Their head coach Dwayne Casey joins
us on the Doug got Leap Show. Coach, coach, how
would you characterize your season to date? Well, Doug, we're
working progress. We changed our offense around a little bit
coming into the season and throughout training camp, and uh,
it's been you know, a little rough going there early,
trying to get a rhythm, guys trying to feel their

(56:34):
way how they were going to get there there shots
and how we're going to get guys shots in the
ball movement type offense. And I think it's smoothing out now.
But you know, just a concerning thing is just keeping
our defense consistent. That's the most important thing. We get
so concerned and so locked in on what we're doing
offensively sometimes that you know, we we slowed down a

(56:54):
little bit defensively, and we've really had a drought in
the third quarter defensively where we're we're last in the
league in in uh in defense the point differential in
the third quarter. So we've got to improve that. And
with that said, we're thirtieth in the third quarter a
number one in the fourth quarter. So I told the
players today, please explain to me how that happens. What

(57:17):
they say. They didn't have an answered, Like, you know,
it's it's amazing, you know, we're that's one thing we're
trying to to get over. Doug, is you know, having
a slow start in the third quarter. That's been our
kind of Achilles here a little bit coming out of
the locker room. But again we get ourselves going and
and you know, going the right way throughout the third

(57:38):
quarter and then to the fourth quarter, which you know
is really important. But that's just one of our things
that we've been working on trying to get better at,
is coming out of the locker room defensively in the
third quarter. That's the voice of Dwayne Casey here. They're
thirteen and seven on the year. You guys, are you
mentioned the change in your offense, a more bald movement
predicated offense. How how has that because look, even though

(58:01):
they're still ball movement, you're still looking for that kind
of high ball screen at the end of a shot
clock penetrating pitch. I know you're shooting about thirty one
and a half threes a game, so you're playing pace
in space. But but how much how much different actually
is it? U to the try to explain to the
layman fan the difference in what you've done done in
previous years where you've been successful into this year so far, well,

(58:24):
last year we were probably more you know, one on
one dominant with a very dynamic player in DeMar De
Rosen and Kyle Lowry, you know, having the ball and
their usage rate was really really hot. They had the
ball a lot in ISO situations and very effectively. We
were in top five offense offensively with that type style
of play. But what we found out, Doug, was in

(58:46):
the playoffs that people could kind of hone in on
what you're doing. They could kind of lock in and
kind of take you out one or two guys out
of the offense. Whereas now with the ball movement around,
our assists rates up quite a bit, our passes, you know,
per game is up per bit. It's it's hard for
teams to really lock in and take us out of

(59:09):
you know, what you're trying to do when that ball
is moving around and and going from side to side,
like you said, space and trying to get up the
floor quickly. So, uh, changing the style of play more
conducive to playoffs that can be successful in playoffs basketball
is what we're trying to do. And the hard thing
is we're you know, it's not like our offense was
broke last year. You know, we were top five in

(59:31):
offense to Martin Rosen was probably what number number five
or six score in the league, and so we were
getting it done a little bit. But just you know,
we're just trying to find a better way to be
successful in the playoffs with that stuff, with a different
style of play. I mentioned the average number three point shots.
Damar is still shooting about still not have a great
three point shot as much as a great score, but

(59:53):
you are, you're shooting, uh seven threes more a game
on average. Again, it's still early in the year, but
this is kind of the case throughout the league. Guy
that the teams are shooting on average thirty three's a
game for the entire league. I guess the question coaches,
what is the limit? Right? It's like like, you know,
I don't know if you ever heard this, like the
hundred meter dash right there, Like there's a limit to

(01:00:14):
how fast the human body can actually run, like Usain
Bolt has pushed that limit, but there's never going to
be like a sub eight hundred meter dash just won't happen.
What is the limit to the number of Like is
there a is there a magic number to which you're like,
all right, now we have exhausted. How many three is
a game? You can take Well, do you know again,
I think everybody is looking at at Houston. I think

(01:00:34):
they're the kind of the the you know, the top
of the league as far as the three is a
concerned and and I know they're getting up what forty
plus and you know a night, and so again, I
think you have to shoot as many as your team
are capable of making. I mean, if you have a
team full of three point shooters, I don't I think
there's gonna come a day when there's not going to

(01:00:56):
be a limit. Jug I think the league is going
towards that three points. Really think that's why you're seeing
so many games that are not out of reach. You know,
a team will have a fifteen, sixteen point lead and
that's nothing with with the as leap as a three
point shot is today. So you know our limit, you know,
we don't really put a number on it. You know,

(01:01:16):
we want to make sure that the people are capable
of making threes are taking them. And Marta rose and
will venture out there something like you said, that's part
of his game that I'm truly convinced it's going to
increase and get better as his career goes on. But
it's one of those things that you know, as long
as the right people are taking them, and there are
rhythm shots within what we're trying to do, they're not

(01:01:37):
forced and not not challenge three point shots. We want
to take them because again, we feel like that shot
is a better shot than a non pain two and
and the long run is gonna gonna help us more.
So that's what we're trying to trying to encourage with
our players, to make sure that the three point shooters
are taking those shots and not non pain two. Definitely

(01:02:00):
not a foot on the line too. Dwayne Casey joining US,
head coach of the Raptors, joined us in the Doug
Otlip Show here on Fox Sports. Trade you, obviously, I
think most people know that how much turnover there was
with your bench. Pat Patterson gone, Corey Joseph gone, p J.
Tucker tomorrow. Carrol of course was a starter for you
guys last year. He's gone, uh and so many of
the younger players are being asked to play more minutes.

(01:02:22):
You had to change the rotation because of it. But
outside of mentioning that and mentioning Damar and Kyle, you're
kind of one of those teams that I think everybody
expects to be in the playoffs, and few, at least
in the States, pay a ton of attention to until
you get to the playoffs. What's what's that like for
you in terms of, hey, look, we like we're a

(01:02:42):
franchise that poisoned win about fifty a year in the
three consecutive years, be right there, competitive with the tops
in the East. And yet onlyybody's talking about his Celtics
and all everybody's talking about the Calves good or bad,
and they don't talk talk about your team. Well that
you know. Again, we're used to it. Uh, you know
in the in the count in our in Canada were
pretty big deal, which is probably the most important thing

(01:03:04):
to the you know, fans here because we are their
only team in Canada and our players. We understand the
fact that, you know, we don't get the love and
the attention in the States, but that doesn't bother us
a matter of fact, I think what we try to
do is use that as motivation, you know, when we
do play against other playoff teams and hey, we're the

(01:03:24):
forgotten kids up here. We've gotten team here in Canada.
But you know, we use that, like you said, every
year were you know, in the money, in the in
the playoff race. So we're used to it. And I
really think the true NBA people understand that. You know,
we're trying to do things right way we play. You know,
we're top ten in defense, top ten in offense last year,

(01:03:47):
so we've been doing some things right. Uh. And at
the end of the day, it's what you know, what
we do in the playoffs. We made the conference finals.
We got beat last year in the semifinals by Cleveland,
and Cleveland the conference finals and last year by them
in the semifinals. So you know, again it's what you
do in the playoffs. And that, like you said, what

(01:04:07):
people notice and what they really respect, and that's that's
the hup we're trying to get over right now. Uh.
You uh, you guys have just had a run of
I think it was like six of eight on the road,
and now you have another like a long road stretch
up coming where you head out kind of the west
coast and then you go back to Philly. It's like,
I'm gonna say, like eight of eleven, eight of eleven

(01:04:28):
on the road. A couple of these these big long stretches.
Is that when you're gonna know exactly what you have
make so many so many times. You know. We talked
to Brad Stevens Um I think two days ago, coach,
and he said, you know, look, we only have like
you guys have a different schedule I do. They've had
like one day off in between all their games, so
it's hard for them to practice. You've had a lot
more back to back games and then you have two
or three, uh two or three days off. But a

(01:04:51):
lot of times those road games, being away from home
and kind of the arduous test of the road teaches
you more about your club. Is that when you're really
gonna know exactly how good can be well, Doug, we
are our first two weeks were on the road. Our
first two weeks where we're on the West coast trip,
we had San Antonio, Golden State, Utah, Denver. We had
a tough road the Lakers, So that really helped us

(01:05:14):
tremendously of finding together, pulling together. Now, like you said,
we have another one coming up. So yes, I really
think the road, especially at the first part of the year,
the first beginning of the year, really tells you a
lot about who your team is. You have more time together,
you have more, more more quality practice times it seemed
like on the road in those situations, and and it's

(01:05:37):
it's it's us, it's only us together, fighting together, and
it really helped us tremendously. We had training camp out
in the western part of Canada and another week over
in Hawaii. So the first part of the year has
been really good for us to finding together, trying to
get our new offensive philosophy and and and that type
of thing. And again, you know, you much red to

(01:06:00):
rather have it at the beginning of the year than
at the end of the year. And now after Christmas
we're home quite a bit so that the schedule comes
back to us again. We've only had a total of
eight road games compared to twelve and ten and some
of the other numbers that other teams have. So it's
gonna be good to us when it comes back around,

(01:06:20):
and hopefully we've gelled together and come together as a
team by that time. Yeah, it's a it's a crazy
schedule you have, because I was looking like from January
and to the end of February, I think you play
like three road games. I mean, so like it's yeah,
I mean, it's it's really it's really weird how they've
constructed it, uh, considering you actually are more centrally located
to a lot of the teams in the East, and

(01:06:41):
I think people actually realize listen, coach, we've been paying attention,
even if some of the some of the other some
other entities that cover the NBA or not, we've seen
the change in the offense and style. Can't wait to
see you on the West coast. Will stop by and
see its staples in a week or so. But thanks
so much for spending some time on this year on
Fox Sports Radio. Gotta be good. I'll see you out there, buddy.
All right, that's Dwayne Casey, the head coach. Actually it's

(01:07:03):
a little bit longer than that there. It's December eleven.
So I like it is weird. I feel music. Are
you like this? Like you don't do that? You don't
set up the Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving? To you, No,
not at all. And in fact, the way this year
worked out, Thanksgiving Day I spent with my girlfriend and
her family, and then the day after Thanksgiving we were

(01:07:25):
spending it with my family. And she's a big Christmas
and I was always telling her not until after Thanksgiving,
so Friday came along. She's like, it's Christmas time, right,
And I was like, nope, We're celebrating Thanksgiving with my
family today, so you have to wait till Saturday. So
I even put it off another extra day. Good. Don't
give it now because once you give it now, like
it's over. Right, Well it's already over. But I feel

(01:07:46):
like I won that battle. Or she lets you win
that battle, right, think that she can fight somewhere else. Ramos,
when do you start the Christmas? Are you like all
in on Christmas? Soudents, Halloween's overtal to remember we respect
Thanksgiving and we started, Uh we stand for thanks we
stand you always got to give respect thanks to somewhere.

(01:08:10):
Donald Trump's like, why aren't people respect Thanksgiving? People died
for Thanksgiving? Like actually they were Native Americans who died
and never mind anyway. Uh I actually this is weird.
I think most people know that I was I'm Jewish,
I was raised Jewish. Um. I actually, my my wife
and my kids they call me the Grinch about Halloween.

(01:08:31):
My whole thing with the Halloween is like a couple
of years ago, when we last lived in California, we
the first house we hit they gave those king sized
candy bars and I was like, and they all like
pounded them, like you guys were good and they were
pint size at the time. I was like, you guys
gonna get sick from too much candy and which, of
course they've come back around you, but they call me
the grine. I like, I like Christmas, Like I actually
like Christmas music more than my wife likes Christmas music. Um,

(01:08:55):
we we put lights or she put we she put
lights out in front of the house, kind of first
time in a while, which I'm kind of I'm kind
of into. Problem with Southern California is it just doesn't
feel doesn't feel like Christmas, you know, I don't know.
It's not a bad thing to not feel like Christmas.
I was like, Oh, I really want a cold winter
chill and snow and ice and slip when I walk

(01:09:16):
outside to make it feel like Chrismas Like nah. Or
you can do Southern Californias like seventy and sudden. You
can heat up the pool. Love has an army. You
can help join the fight, help salve, help the Salvation Army,
fight for those in need all of our community this
Christmas by going to Fox Sports Radio dot com and
click on the red kettle icon to donate or called
eight three three sal Join. We mentioned that yesterday or

(01:09:37):
today was big for Tiger Woods. Didn't have to win,
just had to look competitive. Same yesterday for the l
A Lakers against the Golden State Warriors. Find out how
the Lakers coach Luke Walton thought his young kids did
against the defending champs. After we find out what's going
on from Steve steven Saga hero A World Challenge taking
place in the Bahamas. They finished the first round and

(01:09:59):
Tiger Wood it's not too bad. I know, it's only
a field of eighteen and he's tied for eighth, but
it was three under sixty nine for him. That puts
him three strokes back of the leader. Tommy Fleetwood, Ricky
Fowler and Matt Kuchery each shot five under far with
sixty seven, so they're each one back. Wood has been
out since February and he had a fourth back surgery
this year. In the NFL, Tonight, Dallas Losers is three

(01:10:20):
straight host Washington and Redskins left tackle Trent Williams could
return from his knee injury. Tonight. Cardinals running back Adrian Peterson,
with a neck injury, was limited at practice, but the
team thinks he'll be able to play this weekend. Titans
running back to Marco Murray miss practice today due to illness,
and wide receiver Richard Matthews was out again with a
hamstring injury. Well Miss football due to get its n

(01:10:42):
C double A ruling on in fractions tomorrow morning. Fifteen
level one violations were being investigated. Ole Miss has spent
four and a half million dollars so far fighting this case,
according to USA Today, in addition to four fitting millions
in postseason revenue on this Ohio State quarterback JT. Barrett
will play Saturday night, though he had arthur'scopic knee surgery

(01:11:02):
last Sunday. According to the Columbus Dispatch, this weekend's Big
Ten title game will be on Fox TV. Ohio State
against Wisconsin Saturday, eight pm Eastern time. NC State coach
Dave Doran is staying put after talking to Tennessee he
gets a new five year deal with the Wolf Peck.
Among the college basketball games, the top five matchup with
Notere Dame at Michigan State. Back to you, Notre Dame.

(01:11:24):
Michigan State Basketball should be outstanding, should be outstanding. I
really like watching Matt Ferrell play, Bonsi Coulson play, and
of course Michigan State, a team that all of us
believed could win a national championship this year. That's a
that's a cool game, a really really, really really cool
cool matchup. Here's Luke Walton on on how he thought
the Lakers played last night. We set a challenge to
our players tonight, and I thought they did a great

(01:11:46):
job of responding to that. A couple of little mistakes
here and there cost us when we had a lead
down the stretch, but overall, really happy with the way
that they came out in battled tonight, as that's that's
a fair assessment. I mean, they lost Steph Curia a
couple of times, uh in overtime, especially that it's such
a good job on him and UH and really kind

(01:12:08):
of figured out how they wanted to attack the Golden
State Warriors defense. I do think it's fair to wonder
if the Warriors are as good as they have been. Look,
it's it's really hard this time of year, but but
I think it's fair to wonder about that bench, which
has been once again reconfigured there's a ton of youth
on that bench, and there's some age like Iguadala is not.

(01:12:32):
We we think of Iguadala as the star of of
the finals like he was three years ago. But three
years ago, if you remember, not only was he younger,
but they were leaving him open like he was the
fifth option on the floor. Um, you know Jordan bells

(01:12:53):
if Jordan Bell is just a kid, Andrea Goodala is
thirty three years old, kind of an old thirty three.
You know, they still have Sean Livingston. Those are two
old heads, but the rest of the group, and they
have Nick Young who's just kind of uh, he comes
in and he's there, you know, come in and try
and get buckets. Guy got Pat McCaw, Pat McCaw, Cavon
Looney and Jordan Bell is there young guys. So how

(01:13:17):
that bench develops, I think it's really really interesting. They
might still be a guy short Amri Caspy when he plays,
can provide them three point shooting. JaVale McGee whose production
has been missed, like they got a lot of something,
not surely know exactly what they have, but it's still
the same mix of we go with our big three
and Draymond and then occasionally go big or sometimes go

(01:13:38):
really really small. H and then interesting about about the Raptors,
It's like you look and they're they're still very efficient offensively.
They were good last year offensively. The difference this year
is they're shooting seven more threes a game. Seven. That's
a lot. Seven more threes a game, and that is

(01:14:06):
honestly par for the course in terms of um the
NBA this year, Greg Costell thinks Philip Rivers is a
better quarterback than Eli Manning without ever winning a Super Bowl.
I'll tell you if I agree or disagree. Next, so

(01:14:27):
many things to get to today. Tiger Wood shoots as
sixty nine Warriors survive the Lakers. A lot of people
are freaking out about about Ben Simmons free throw shooting.
I told you, man, Ben Shamin, she shoot free throws
right handed. Problem solved. Problem absolutely solved. And of course
tonight we got Thursday Night Football. Gets you a little

(01:14:47):
preview of Thursday Night Football upcoming. Some of you we
lose to our serious x M Channel eighty three audience.
In the meantime, we like to play for your portion
of something we heard earlier in the day. We call it.
And now say Greg Cosell appears weekly on The Herd.
He explained why Philip Rivers, in his mind, is a

(01:15:08):
better quarterback than Eli Manning. The two Super Bowls make
a lot of people believe that Eli is a better quarterback,
and that's fair. The goal was to win championships. But
to me, if you isolate each quarterback their skill sets
their career, I would probably say to me that Philip
Rivers is a better quarter And uh, you know, I

(01:15:29):
feel pretty comfortable saying that based on probably seeing almost
every one of their snaps in their careers. Ah. Um. Like, look,
I agree with the general premise that if your only
argument for Eli being better than Philip Rivers is two
super Bowls, then then the argument isn't is it a

(01:15:52):
great one? Because there are Like look, the reason that
they won the Super Bowls was partially Eli, but a
lot of it was they had the most dynamic pass
rush in the NFL during both of those Super Bowl runs.
No one does it alone. Um. And also, I'll say
this about Philip Rivers. I like Philip Rivers a lot. Uh,
and I'm a Charger fan. I do think that he
has gotten a little bit more of a past than

(01:16:14):
maybe he should because the organization wasn't was dysfunctional for
a long time UM, and because you know, he didn't
have either defense and offensive line the last couple of years.
We should remember that when he first took over his quarterback,
they were a dominant team. They went fourteen games one
year and lost at home to the Patriots. On the
other hand, in sports, the way it works is we

(01:16:38):
judge you based upon what you do in the playoffs
and uh rivers who's tough play with the torn a
c l in the a f C Championship game against
the Patriots one year. He did win an India during
the peak of India's powers against UM against Peyton Manning.
But for the most part, he and his team have
not performed well enough when it mattered most. And so yeah,

(01:17:02):
I think in terms of skill set, in terms of production,
you'd probably take he's probably underrated in comparison to ELI
being overrated. And though he stuck up for ELI at
his press conference, it's not like he's breaking down tape
as to how good ELI has been the past couple
of years. Anyway. It's more based upon reputation, and reputation
doesn't mean you're unfireable or even unsuitable. But I think

(01:17:25):
we might give Philip Burrs almost too much of a
pass if possible. He played completely out of the spotlight
in San Diego, completely out of the spotlight with non
playoff teams, and we don't hold him in any way
accountable for any of their failures, which is honestly not fair.
It'd be it would be unfair to count them solely
accountable for their failures, but it's also not fair to

(01:17:46):
hold him completely unaccountable to their failures. And that's what
the Fox said. Does that make sense? Can you guys?
Is there anybody else in sports who we can relate
that too? Write? Like I think Tracy McGrady gets into
basketball Hall of Fame. Like, I'm not saying that Tracey
McGrady had to win an NBA championship, but he never
got out of the first round of the playoffs, never,

(01:18:07):
not once with the you know one time when he
was with San Antonio after he retired and came back.
That that's it. But when he's a rotation player in
the NBA, starter in the NBA, superstar in the NBA,
they didn't get out the first round. I'm not holding
him to to nearly the level of confidency in the playoffs.
That then everybody else's he didn't You don't have to
win a title. He didn't compete for title. He didn't

(01:18:27):
get out of the first round. Can you think of
anybody else in sports that gets a complete pass because
they've been playing in a bad organization? Ryan, that's tough, um,
one that I can think of, And I know he's
been battling a lot of injuries. But Blake Griffin, because
we've always talked about like how talented he should be,

(01:18:49):
how he was the number one overall pick, and the
Clippers have never gotten past the second round of the playoffs. Well, see,
I don't think he gets a pass. I think he
I think Blake griff and justifiably faces a lot of criticism. No,
I think he faces too much criticism, book, too much criticism. UM.
I would say John Stockton a little bit that way

(01:19:11):
got to the finals twice, didn't win. It did hit
a big shot to put them in the finals over
the Houston Rockets. But like we never mentioned that John
Stockton didn't win a title. I guess it's because he
was in Utah with the Jazz Ramus don you think
of anybody. I was trying to think of somebody in baseball,
but not Mike Trout. I tries the guy, and look,

(01:19:32):
Mike Trot has only been in the playoffs once, and
he was terrible when he was in the playoffs once.
But the playoffs, it is a limited It is a
small sample size, small sample size. Ben Roethlisberger said this
about Eli Manning's benching um. He said, it's eye opening

(01:19:55):
that you have to take every play, every game. Don't
don't take it for granted, take it for what it's worth.
Take it for what it is, because you never know
when you're gonna be done. I don't and I don't
mean to talk negatively about the Giants especially. I know
the Steelers and the Giants are very close and our
and our family too, but I don't think they would
do I don't think I think they would handle it differently. No,

(01:20:19):
if they said, Ben, you're done here, I don't want
to play for anyone else, even if I felt like
I still had it in me that black and Gold
bleeds through me. Ben Roethlisberger said, Joe Montana, Joe Montana
did it for me. It killed me when he went
to the Chiefs. I couldn't watch. It wasn't the same.
I'm not convinced. I'm I'm not convinced that Eli is

(01:20:43):
absolutely done with the Giants. The massive overreaction to the move,
massive overreaction to it. Well, it's interesting because this is
sort of what happened with Tony Romo, right, I mean
what what it seemed? No, I know, but the idea
of like either being a back up or however, you're
not the starter here anymore, and then deciding whether you're

(01:21:06):
okay with being the backup or pursuing your career somewhere
else with a different team, and he decided that the
broadcasting job was too good to pass up like that,
That's how it looked to me, was it was, I
want to be the starter for the Dallas Cowboys, or
I have this great offer to be a lifelong broadcaster,
so I'm going to pursue that instead of being a

(01:21:27):
quarterback for the Texans or the Broncos or these I
don't think. I don't think the Texans or I don't
think the Broncos are the Chiefs. Where the Texans came
strong enough and and made it obvious that they wanted
him enough and they kind of they were they were
hoping that he would get cut so that he didn't
have the the leverage of negotiating under his current salary.
I mean, a lot of it came down to, like, look,

(01:21:48):
he wanted to be paid like a starting quarterback. He
wanted a long term Uh if he's gonna go back
and put himself out there in a new city with
brand new house. He wanted, you know, two or three
years of guaranteed money through with with the signing bonus
being extended. And no one was willing to do that.
And they were like, well, they're gonna cowboys, are gonna
have to cut him. And once they cut him, to
be on the market. And at some point CBS got

(01:22:09):
the nuts to go like, you know what, let's just
go for it. Like I think, I think the Romo
thing was all about timing. Otherwise he'd be elsewhere. But
can you imagine if Romo was the backup right now,
there will be a ton of calls for Romo to
get to start, be a ton of calls. But yeah,
I think if you stay somewhere long enough, eventually you're

(01:22:31):
going to get replaced. Eventually you will. And I don't
think what the Giants are doing is crazy. I think
it's smart. It's going to secure their spot early in
the NFL draft, which whether gets some a quarterback or
doesn't get him a quarterback. It is a quarterback heavy draft,
which somebody's gonna want to be up in one of
those one, two, three, four spots. And they need players
and they need a quarterback of the future. So there's

(01:22:53):
a pretty good sense of what they're doing. Will one
help them in terms of potentially the value of both
of their backup or maybe established one of their backups
could be a starter, And it's gonna help them lose games,
and they lose games, and maybe they don't need any
help losing games, but they lose games, they secure a
top three draft pick, it will be well worth it.

(01:23:14):
It will be well well worth it. Settling is not
a bad thing, just like flats on women not a
bad thing. I'll explain next in the Doug Gotliep Show,
Fox Sports Radio. What Up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio.

(01:23:43):
I'm doing a game tonight on Facebook and Uh, to
this point, I haven't talked to him to let me
wear a hoodie, but they did say I could wear
a T shirt with a sport coat. I don't normally
like the T shirt with the sport coat look, but
if it gets me out of wearing a suit and tie,
coat and tie, I'm all for it. I am watching
and covering a basketball game, so who really cares what
I'm wearing? Right? Um? Anyway, my one of my like, look, my,

(01:24:06):
there's a discussion I have with my friends. I don't
know if you guys ever have this. John Ramos is
back from illness. Uh. Some people would have their specimens
sent off to parts unknown to make sure that whatever
he had. Uh, he is clear of Ramos came back
still under the weather. But because he's just a he's
just a technical directing warrior. That's exactly what he is.

(01:24:26):
Fight for you and me, Doug, Yes, Uh, you can
take away my life, but you can never take away
my right. Elfreda. Um Ryan Music producing this along with
Sydney Katz. Do you guys ever talk about what rich
is like? But being riches mean with my family with Ryan? Uh?

(01:24:48):
Now with your family with your friends? Right? Like? What's
a rich thing to like? A rich thing to do?
I think like none of us are like wealthy? Like
wealthy is taboon. Pickens put his ray Inch up for
sale for two fifty million dollars. Like that's wealthy, wealthy, right,
Like rich is there's a there's a there's a quant

(01:25:12):
uh quantitative quantitative like that, there is a number tw
which you go like, all right, if I have that
in my bank account, I'm rich. If I'm making this
per year, I'm rich. But it's also a state of mind,
right in that you can go and at the holidays,
within reason, shop and not worry about like when I
run this, when I run this debit card, is it
going to go through? But if there's more than that,

(01:25:35):
it's being able to kind of do what you want
relatively when you want, enjoying what you do while earning money.
Like I consider myself a rich person even though financially
I'm not um. And one reason is like I get
to come to work, like I don't wear like full grace.
Sometimes I do wear full gray sweats. Guys, don't sell

(01:25:56):
me out. I mean, like, you know what's hot outside.
I can wear shorts and a T shirt. One day
I got caught. We did a Facebook live and I
was in a muscle shirt. It was I took you guys,
took everybody to the gun show. Like, I think that's
kind of part of being rich, Like being able to
be comfortable in your job and comfortable in your skin
and what you're doing. I think it's rich. I'm happy

(01:26:17):
Like I I look at Rob most and obviously I
know John. I'm sure you'd like to make more money,
but generally like you live a rich, full life. You've
got great kids, a great wife, and you get to
coach soccer on weekends. And outside of the fact that
we do make you whittle things out of wood, we don't.
We don't grind you too hard. Where is my figuring
you were supposed to widdle? Though I've little bit off
for a couple of days. I want my star I

(01:26:38):
want my Star Wars figure. I want my Darth Vader's
Star Wars figuring whittled damn it anyway. Um So I look,
I think you can be comfortable without always grinding and
squeezing for the last dollar. I have a friend who's
who His wife is beautiful. He's a it looking, well

(01:27:00):
to do guy, and he jokes with her about, Hey,
wearing flats is mailing it in wearing flats. Um, you
guys know what flats are right, like music shall be,
your interns shall be? What flat were? You guys don't
know what flats are? Well, I mean, I guess I
kind of do, but I just didn't know that there

(01:27:20):
was some sort of distinct definition. Like when you said
that before the break, John and I both looked at
shall be, like, so, what exactly are flats? Like, I
know there's heels and then there's flats, so I guess
that's heels. Wedges, Right, there's heels, there's wedges. Uh, there's
all different kinds of shoes. Flats, Shelby, I shall be

(01:27:41):
if you could shelby our intern Shelby flats are incredibly
comfortable than this is what I've been told. Yeah, Miami,
most of the time. Most of the time, they're fairly comfortable,
and they're they're kind of like dressy, but they're not
they're not necessarily they're not tennis shoes. They're not tennis shoes.
They're they're there. It's like a it's like what you

(01:28:02):
would see it was. It's like a it's like a
dress shoe for a woman, but there is no there's
nothing to push up the heel. So there's a little
bit of a lack of sex appeal to them. Like, look,
if women look good in heels, I'm sure guys probably Look,
it makes your calves look better, It makes you but
look better. It makes you look a little bit taller,
a little bit leaner. Like there's a reason women wear
heels because they look good in them. Right, And like

(01:28:24):
my wife she has all these problems with her feet,
so she almost never wears heels ever and there but
and women will tell you, like, look, flats are more
comfortable than heels. And so guys like I have my
buddy John, he'll see He'll say, well, flats are just
mailing it in. But like, look if if my wife
wears flats to a to a dinner party, Like we

(01:28:44):
get dressed up and we go out to a show,
and she wears flats. When we get home, her feet
aren't killing her scause she's not miserable, So maybe my
life would be a little bit better, right, Like, there's
a there's a little bit of a payback to it.
So while you give up in glamour and looks, uh
and in may be in sex appeal with a nice
tight fitting form fitting, especially getting ready for a holiday dress.

(01:29:06):
On the other On the other hand, the woman is
happier now. Sometimes they're not as happy because they don't
feel as pretty wearing flats. Although if you're a guy
and you're dating a girl she's wearing flats, make sure
you comment on them how much you like them, because
they can self they can be self conscious about the
fact they know that they but doesn't look as good
without the heels anyway. Kirk Cousins is like flats, That's

(01:29:29):
what he is. Dak Prescott is like flats, that's what
he is. Like. It's settling a little bit. Their fourth
round draft pick quarterbacks. But you know, heels like heels
can My wife got these things ne roma's, uh Morton's neuromas.
You have nerves between your toes, between like the you know,

(01:29:53):
the ballparts your toes. You have nerves in there. And
because of how her feet, the architect or the blueprint
of her foot or whatever, and when she would wear heels,
it would it would pinch a nerve and it would
get swollen to the point where if you run your
hand along the bottom or foot, it's almost like a
little bump, like there's a little like a seed inside there.

(01:30:14):
And it was really painful. For her, so she actually
had one remove. She's had shots in her feet and
she generally doesn't wear heels because it's super, super painful.
Now that may be mailing it in like hey, listen,
you you gotta go, you know, fight through a little
pain to look sexy. But if her feet are more comfortable,
she's more comfortable, she's happier at the end of the night.
That's that's basically what you have with Dak Prescott, right Like,

(01:30:36):
Dak Prescott is not Aaron Rodgers. He's never going to
be Aaron Rodgers. Kids, He's not. I don't think he'll
be Tony Romo. But right now you're under paying him,
no matter how good he is. Paying him fourth round
draft pick money a million dollarless than a million dollars
a year at the starting quarter. You're saving money there,
so you spread it elsewhere. That's how they tried to

(01:30:57):
fix the defense. And they're gonna have to in the
office and get more, get some wide receiving help because
Dez Bryant does not appear to be a number one threat.
They're gonna have to get a new tight end at
some point that very in near future. Because Jason Witten
appears to be washed, but it's okay sometimes to settle
that quarterback. The Giants for years kind of settled. Eli
wasn't a superstar. He was good and when they had

(01:31:20):
the right pass rush around him, when they had the
right wide receivers around him, when everything worked out just right,
he was good enough and was clutch enough to play
better above his level in the biggest games of his life.
But generally he was a better than average quarterback, just
like flats are better than average shoes. No dude would
ever go like, honey, you wore those flats in the night. Wow,

(01:31:41):
did you look amazing? But it's not like she wore sneaker.
It's not like she wore flip flops. Right, it's not
like she wore army boots. She wore flats. She got
dressed up there nice to fine. That's what cousins is.
That's what Dak Prescott does. That makes sense, guys. You
guys now know what flats are, Doug, I've learned a
lot on this show today. But the fact that I
can go and hang out with my girlfriend tonight and
tell her I know the difference between heels and flats

(01:32:03):
and wedges. And there's also pumps. The pumps are you know,
pumps are No, it's not pumps like the old Nike
or rebud pumps. Pumps are below. They're like high. They're
like they're they're so heels and Shelby, you help me
if if I'm wrong. Heels are like four to six inch.
They're usually thinner like stilettos are super thin like the

(01:32:23):
hooker heels, right, those are super thin. Uh, heels are
generally like four inches or more like the two inch
thick variety. Those are called pumps. And I don't think
anybody who's under under fifty wears pumps. Is that about accurate, Shelby, Uh,
pumps are more like pumps are kind of like an
interchangeable name for heels. I would say, I would like

(01:32:43):
anything really high, like six inches is like a pump.
Really Yeah, we're gonna have to throw this one out
to Twitter. I always thought pumping the little the little
booties now that women wear, which are kind of sexy, right,
the little booty it's like they're like boots that are
that have pump heels in the background in the Those
are just booties. Those are the I like those. I
I actually prefer those two flats. Uh, you can never

(01:33:07):
go wrong with a sexy heel. Anyway, there you go.
There's women's shoes one oh one. You gotta know because
here's the thing music, it's you can't just you can't
just commend a woman on her shoes. If you commend
a woman on the cut of the shoe, now she's
gonna know you're really paying attention, even if you're not
really paying attention. Got it. You know who's great on

(01:33:29):
women's shoes and food. Jeff Schwartz gonna join us former
Giants offensive lineman, get his thoughts on the Redskins and Cowboys.
How much of the Cowboys offensive issues has been offensive
line and running back? How much of it is Dak Prescott.
Plus i'll get his thoughts on Eli Manning being benched
big deal or completely overdone deal? That's next. But first,

(01:35:26):
Home Alone's in the conversation and I'm the rare, rare
kid brought up Jewish? Who I actually? You can? You know?
I never understand people like you say, like Mary Christmas,
like you know I'm Jewish, Like it's okay, Mary Christmas
is just a nice greeting with that, we welcome in.
Jeff Schwartz, h Merry Christmas, Jeff, thank you. I've never

(01:35:47):
been offended by that either. It doesn't you want to
do say though I often say happy Christmas. I'm so
he's just saying happy Hanuka and it throws people off. Yeah,
it's kind of a British thing. You kind of sound
like a stop right. I almost feel like your teeth
should be askewed and you have really bad breath. Jeff
Schwartz course played nine years in the NFL's and offensive
lineman Uh. He and his brother have a written a
book about food and family. It's outstanding. Follow him on

(01:36:08):
Twitter at Jeff Schwartz. That's Jeff with a G. He's
g Off. He's not really a jeff He's a geof,
not a Jeffrey. Um. I read his work in sp Nation.
He joins us, all right. So most of the media
world was offended for Eli Manning when he was offered
the possibility of starting, but being pulled at some point
when it became a mood point to take him out

(01:36:29):
of the game and throw some of the other guys
in as a as a guy who played alongside him
and knows and you know this league so well, what
was your reaction? So I wasn't offended so much that
he got benched. UM. I was more just upset the
way it was handled. I felt like a guy who
deserves the respected organization for his time obviously spent one

(01:36:50):
of two Super Bowls, two ten games in a row.
It just felt very casual. It felt like they were
just benching somewhat of my caliber. Canestly you know when
I got released, they sounded press release, they set out
press release for this. I think this occasion should have
been more formal, um. I think there should have been
a press conference. I don't think you should have sent
Eli out there to talk um in front of the the
media like it was any other day. I just think

(01:37:12):
it wasn't handled um with the professionalism that was that
was afforded to Eli for what he's done for the organization.
And I think that's where a lot of people were
upset about it, and those a lot of people were
also upset about Geno Smith playing. I'm actually not because
Davis Webb, who they want to play eventually, is nowhere
near ready to play the football game. He was for
string all training camp. He didn't get he didn't get

(01:37:34):
any he didn't get any reps. Can you smack those
can you smack those kids? Like? How dare they talk
when you're on a national radio show. I just got
to Los Angeles, so my my son's in the car
with me, um, And so I just think that that
that's not an issue for me. The issue is more
just a lack of what I feel respect towards Eli

(01:37:56):
doing this in this in this manner. I listen, I understand,
but like as you went out, most guys in the NFL,
when they get older and they get pulled, they don't
get benched. They get released. He's getting benched, which, if anything,
will help him be healthy for next year. Right, And like, look,
part of this is I think they want to lose.
Part of this is, you know, they gotta play Gino,

(01:38:16):
not just because David's web is not ready, but you
got a reward of veteran guy who started. Give him
a shot, you know, give him a look so that
he can get a job next year. Like I kind
of think all this stuff makes sense. It's just our
emotions being tied to Eli. Many people have been rough
on ELI, even when he's been successful, and I think
those are the people like, well, I said he sucked,
but I didn't mean he sucks so bad you want
to start Geno Smith, right, I think that's I think

(01:38:37):
that's really what a lot of the reaction is, right.
And I actually think they should deactivate him. I don't
think he should dress like I don't. I think they're
kind of doing this both ways. And I think ELI
did call them a little bit on their bluff because
I don't think they expected to go down like like
you did. When you're John Marr, the John Turner talking
about what we didn't really expect to go down with it.
They accept starting the game and then being pulled no

(01:39:00):
matter what it happened. You know what if on Sunday
he throws three touchdowns in the first half against Oakland.
He shouldn't be poled for that. Um So, I think
they expected Eli and say, Okay, I'll just kind of
go along with the plan, and when he didn't, the
Giants didn't really know how to respond. I mean, I
just think it's kind of degrading for Eli to be
taking scout team reps in whatever, you know, fift Keith
year starting all those games. He should be deactivated. They

(01:39:23):
should put Davis Webb at second string and essentially, you know,
you keep him around to be a leader like he is.
He was in you know, sitting in the meeting room
yesterday with maybe the breakfast room with Davids Webb at
six third in the morning, you know, talking to the
young kid and helping him out. But I think you
shouldn't even dress him. You can't have it both ways.
You can't have him be there if dud Know doesn't
play well, if you Know gets hurt, Oh here comes
to the ELI to save the day. You've moved on

(01:39:45):
from him. You need to use to deactivate him for
the rest of the season. Jess Howard's joining us on
The Doug Gotlip Show here on on Fox Sports Radio.
How much does Eli actually have in the tank. So
this is a this is a good question, and and
to be honest, I don't no, because everything around him
is not what it's supposed to be. I think Eli's
the point of his carese thirty seven now where he

(01:40:06):
needs a lot of things to be good. He needs
to be good protection, he needs to have skill weapons.
He's not going to leave the potting and make plays
with his legs. So it's it's very hard to judge
what he is he's had. I think I saw the
statue has had like less than ten percent of snaps
this year with everyone healthy on you know, his on
on the edge of skill weapons. He doesn't trust his
offensive line. If you watch him play, he's generating back there.

(01:40:29):
He throws the ball quickly sometimes when there's kind of
feeling a little bit of pressure. I think next year,
if the Giants were to release him or trade him,
I think he would do well in Arizona, Jacksonville. I don't.
I don't like Deniver. People have thrown that out there. Um,
but you know in Jacksonville where he knows off Ce
Coughlin and they'll they'll be a heavy play action team.
In Arizona with Bruce Arians he'll get back to what

(01:40:49):
he's done bestness for which is a lot of play action.
That's what Kevin and Kevin Gilbride was beforehand. Run the ball,
run the ball, and let Eli chuck the ball around
the field. So I think he would do well in
both of those systems if he gets opportunities for that.
That's the voice of Jeff Schwartz's joining us on the
Doug Gotlip Show. Let's get to night's game, Cowboys taking
on the Redskins. Um. I'm not gonna say I never

(01:41:10):
bought into the Dack thing, but I did think that
he was wildly overregarded because he was a fourth round pick.
There was also always some vitriol towards Tony Romo um
because of turnovers and because of of injuries. So replacing
Romo helped him behind a great offensive line with a
great running game helped him. And he was a rookie
playing against the soft schedule, playing with a dynamic team

(01:41:32):
where he didn't face a ton of adversity, and I
feel like he's been a little bit exposed. Is that
a fair perspective on on deck considering doesn't have Zeke
and he's had a little bit of change in offensive line.
How was totally Um on the Romo training last year
until about week sixteen, and even that he had that
little spot series in Week seven team he came in
and four plays and drove down score touching against Philly. UM.

(01:41:56):
I think galax three last year with Romo. UM obviously
thinking Dad did some great things and and like you said,
he got put a situation seeing about this. It just
really he has three all Pro offensive linement not just
like Pro bowlers to best at their position, and Zach
Martin the right guard, center, Travis Frederick, and and he
has a All Pro running back he didn't have to

(01:42:17):
Pro Bowl wide receiver, and a Hall of Fame tight end.
That's who he was dressed into playing with UM. And
so I think that he was a little overvalued last year.
I think we're seeing right now that some of those
parts aren't there, and he's struggling, and I hope he can,
you know, overcome it and do better essentially, but it
hasn't looked good. What twenty three points and three games
now without Zeke Elliott and then another it's not really

(01:42:39):
a short week because they played last Thursday, but uh,
you know another you know, the Redskins are division opponent.
They'll play him tough tonight. What about what about the Redskins?
You know they have been reticent to uh, to give
Cousins a long term deal. Uh. There have been times
in which Cousins looks like a really he was good
in Seattle. There's been spots to which he's had to

(01:43:00):
win games, and he has. But there are times would
you're like, oh, yeah, Kirk Cousin. I said like, hey,
here's what I equated to. I equated Kirk Cousins to settling,
you know, to But sometimes settling is a smart thing.
It's we talked about this five minutes ago before you
joined us. It's like, look, would you like your wife
to wear heels every time you go out shore? But
sometimes the smart thing is to wear flats so their

(01:43:21):
feet don't hurt the end of the night. Sometimes the
smart thing is just keep the quarterback you have so
you don't have to search for the quarterback that you want.
Am I crazy to think that they'd be settling with Cousins?
But settling is not always a bad thing. Well, my
wife would would never be caught dead without heels on
outside the house, so she might have a different answer
than I would. I think they have to sign him. Um,

(01:43:41):
you know, this year is interesting. They're like the best
of the bad football teams. I mean they're kind of
just right there, almost beat the almost beat the Saints
go to Seattle, like you said, and win that game
with down four offensive linemen. Um, I don't think they
have a choice. What are they gonna do. They're not
in a draft in a position in the draft to
take one of these top quarterbacks. So maybe you know,
they take someone like a like a Josh Allen from

(01:44:02):
Wyoming later in the first round. But you're kind of
starting over if you don't if you don't sign Cousins.
And like you said, he's gonna have his bad days,
gonna have his good days. But he's playing decently this
year with no weapons. I mean they got rid of
Deshan Jackson, Pierre Grosn. The offensive line has been messed
up this year at times. Um, I think he deserves
a contract and of washing the side not to pay them. Um,

(01:44:24):
they're gonna be starting over. I don't think they want
to start over. Are the Are the Steelers good or
are they just slightly better? Than the teams they play,
like helped me out. They have Antonio Brown, they have
Levian Bell, they have Ben Roethlisberger, they got Ryan chas here,
they got some pieces that I and they have a
record of a team that looks like a dominant team.

(01:44:44):
But I've watched him and they fool around with these
teams that should be and they have guys running wide open.
They're confused their defensive secondary, like explained to me, the
Pittsburgh's the enigma that is the Pittsburgh Steelers. They're just
not very crisp. But they're not being efficient this year.
And I don't know if it's because lady on Bell
wasn't there a training camp and and I do think

(01:45:04):
part of the offensive problems. I wrote about this a
couple weeks ago. You know, Big Men has talked about
retirement almost too much for a superstar um, especially at quarterback.
So you know, is he I think he's totally there
every Sunday, but you know it's just preparing. Is he
is he mentally all the way there? At times? I
think they know they dealt with that. The offensive want
is still playing good. Their defense has actually been pretty good. Um,

(01:45:27):
you know, they have those couple of bowing coverages. So
you wonder why that is, is that a lack of concentration?
Does that start with the head coach to start with
with with with the GM moving down? I don't know.
I don't know. I mean, they're good enough to beat
New England, but would you trust them to beat New England?
I won't. I think that New England whens that an
FC championship game by fourteen points. Yeah, I tend to.

(01:45:48):
I tend to agree with you. And then the question
is do we do we buy into the Eagles who
are blowing everybody out, have a chance to first time
since it was the greatest show on turf beat five
teams in a row by twenty or more points that
they've been early dominant. You don't. They don't play anybody
like they had that last place schedule like the Cowboys
did last year. And I love the Eagles are doing.

(01:46:08):
They're they're running the ball, they're playing great defense ball.
Like you said, like, is it it's a big turnaround
in one season. I'm with you, Um, it's it's a
little bit too much for me to believe that. It's
That's why I think Aaron Rodgers comes back in plays.
I think he sees it and he's like, you know,
the Rams not totally bought in on golf in a
big spot right, too much, too soon? Saints like defense

(01:46:32):
looks better and unless they're playing at home. I'm not
big buyer into that. I'm not sure who's coming out
of the NFC. And then outside of New England, there's
no one in the a f C outside of maybe
the Chargers. I think that that have the talent to compete. Uh.
You can again follow him on Twitter. Uh, that's that's
a good way to start. Or you can read his book,
giving his brother's book. He's have swarts at GEO f

(01:46:55):
F Schwartz or we just work. It's it's sports nation.
What are you doing in a supports station? Uh? Sp nation? Um?
What do you do in l a oh So? I
am um giving me a f on network on Sunday
and I'm actually going tomorrow to do some stuff as
Fox so. Um just uh, I brought my son to
so we're from l A so So doing a bunch

(01:47:16):
of media things like usual. All right, welcome to a Saturday.
You want to come and hang and and to have
your boys swim in the pool. Uh, and we can
have a block from my son at some point we can.
We can do that. In the meantime, Schwartzy, thanks so
much for joining us. All right, we'll do it. Text
you off are. We're setting up play dates here on
the Doug Gottlip Show and we'll bring in Steve to
segri find out what's going on in the world of sports.

(01:47:38):
Of course, we are leading with Tiger Woods, who shot
a first round sixty nine, and the Bahamas he sided
for eight and an eighteen. Man Field Woods three shots
back of the leader, Tommy Fleetwood, Ricky Fowler one back
as he's Matt Coucher. The NFL games at Dallas tonight,
and the Cowboys have lost three in a row. They're
hosting Washington. Each team five and six on the season.
Cardinals running back Adrian peters In with the neck injury,

(01:48:01):
was limited at practice today, but the team thinks he'll
be playing this weekend. Lions running back Amir Abdullah with
the neck injury, miss practice again, Bucks running back Doug
Martin with a concussion missed practice again, and Saints tight
end Kobe Fleaner has a concussion. He's out this week. Reportedly,
Jets running back Matt Forte, with a bad knee, returned
to limited practice today, but wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, now

(01:48:22):
with the Bill's miss practice again with a knee injury.
Vikings QB case keenum. As the NFC's Offensive Player of
the Month, Tom Brady won the a f C Award.
Ohio State quarterback J T. Barrett will play Saturday night,
although he had Arthur Scotpic knee surgery last Sunday. According
to the Columbus Dispatch, the Angels acquired veteran reliever Jim
Johnson from the Braves, and tomorrow morning on FS one,

(01:48:44):
the World Cup draw live from Russia ten am Eastern Time,
getting set for next summer's tournaments on Fox back to you,
I cannot play what Oh my bad, my bad. Uh
that's uh. And look I know there's like my my

(01:49:06):
Fox TV brother and like dude, don't ever say that.
What are you doing? Um? Look, it's three to four games,
that's all that's changed. Three to four games. That's otherwise
we weren't winning the thing. We might have advanced out
of the group. Three to four games, huge number. We
have done a huge number. The World Cup will still
go on by the way. Italy's not in it either,

(01:49:27):
which is a much bigger upset than the US men's
national team not not getting in it. Let's go to Vegas, like,
give my money, right? Are you tired of losing money
every week? Yeah? Do you want to be in the knows? Well,
we might not know, but Vegas always knows. Bring r

(01:49:54):
J Bell, that's right. R J Bell from pregame dot com.
You can hear his radio show Straight in a Vegas
Friday nights eleven o'clock the Pacific time or Saturday nights
ten o'clock Pacific time. Follow him on Twitter at r
J in Vegas, or go to his website pregame dot com.
R J. Let's start with the Bears. They're favored by
three hosting the San Francisco forty Niners, who are starting

(01:50:18):
Jimmy Garoppolo. Uh, tell me that the smart money is
telling you that you got you gotta take the Niners here,
don't you. Yeah, that is the smart money. I like it.
I don't love it. And here's why. I think there's
an overreaction with Jimmy g No doubt about it. He's
an upgrade, but some guys in Vegas are saying four

(01:50:39):
point upgrade. Now, I think four points is right once
he understands this Shanahan offense. But think back to Matt Ryan.
He didn't really get this Shanahan offense a very savvy veteran,
until the middle of the second year. So I think
it's gonna be a steeper learning curve than people think.
I still though, I think it's a signific again upgrade.

(01:51:01):
And also this is more of a like against the Bears.
The Bears team that I mean, Doug. The stats were
pretty good last year, like surprisingly good in the beginning
of this year, but the last three or four games,
this is one of the worst teams in the league.
And history tells us do not bet the Bears with
as a favorite. The last six times they've been a

(01:51:23):
favorite all six times under John Fox, owen six against
the spread, and they lost all six games they were
supposed to win all six. They lost all six against
the Bears on the Niners. Yeah, I mean, look, I
I agree with you. I think it's it's twofold one.
It's John. Everybody knows John Fox is getting fired, right,
and it appears that the Bears are just as bad

(01:51:45):
as we thought, uh they would be that the Steelers
win in the early season near you know, the near
miss against the Falcons was not indicative of who they
actually are. And then you got Garoppolo, who's a competent quarterback.
You you, you put those two facts together, and I
think that's where uh the love affair comes from, not
from any sort of other substantive, uh substantive logical reasoning, right,

(01:52:08):
I mean, that's really kind of what when it comes
down to, let's let's move on to the Broncos with
no quarterback playing in Miami against the Dolphins. But the Broncos,
how are they a favorite? There is real disdain even
for the Dolphins. I mean, this was a team not
that long ago whose record was mighty good, but Vegas
thought they were like the twenty six or twenty seventh

(01:52:30):
best team. Now they've lost a few games, and some
Vegas guys consider the Dolphins to be the worst team
in the NFL. Here's the thing, how much better is Denver?
Let's kind of accept Dolphins are the worst team, but
you know, Brown's I think are worst. But let's say
Dolphins are thirty one. How much better are the Broncos.
They have lost now seven straight games, now our database

(01:52:54):
goes back thirty years. Doug. In thirty years, the Broncos
are only the fifth team to have lost seven straight
games and be a road favor. Is there any reason
that they're historically good as a team that's lost a
bunch of games. I don't think so. Maybe if the
defense was playing with vigor, perhaps, but this defense feels

(01:53:16):
like the effort isn't there, and now you've got a
situation where it's one of the worst offenses in the league.
Simmon might be the best option, but it's kind of
like the tallest guy and a with a bunch of
very short people in the family. And thus I think
the Dolphins. I don't like them much as a team.
This is a pure value play. I like the Dolphins
getting points at home. That's r J Bell. Pregame dot

(01:53:39):
Com is the website. This is the Doug Otlip Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. R J joins this weekly
his weekly radio show or bi weekly radioho Friday and
Saturday night here on Fox Sports Radio eleven o'clock West
Coast time on Friday night, uh ten o'clock on saturdaynight.
Getting ready for all the NFL games. Let's get to
the Titans taken on the Houston Texans. Titens a six

(01:54:02):
and a half point favorite at home against Houston. Houston's
pasty has been terrible. Their quarterback play since Deshaun Watson
has been erratic at best. I take it you like
Tennessee even though it's a big number. No, I do not.
I like Houston. I think Tennessee might be the most
overrated team in the NFL. Tennessee seven and four record,

(01:54:25):
that looks mighty good. There's a narrative right all third
year for Mariotta. He's trending upwards. No, he's regressing. And
if you look at d v o A, a favorite
Saber Metric major of teams, they've got this seven and
four Tennessee team number twenty two in the NFL. I
think that's about right. That is about right. Texans not good,

(01:54:47):
Savage not good, but they're playing hard and the offensive line,
which has been a problem this year, has played better
the last few games relative to early in the year.
And once again, as we moved to the end of
the season, Doug, we're gonna be looking at these underperforming
teams and putting them into two categories. They're still trying,
really hard, or maybe not every week, almost like the

(01:55:09):
NBA every night. You gotta look at the motivation of
NBA teams. Usually in the NFL you don't late in
the year with losing teams, you do. I see Houston
trying hard. I want the Texans getting almost a touchdown
against an overrated Tennessee team. Saints are great at home,
right like that. We know anybody who looks there, they are.
They are built to play at home taking on the

(01:55:30):
Carolina Panthers four and a half point favorites, not a
huge number but but big enough based upon how they
played recently. You think Carolina, this is a game they
could win. Who do you like? I actually like the
Saints here. This is one of my best picks of
the week. And here's the thinking. Last week they had
DBS out a couple of key absences, and still we're
pretty competitive on the road against a very good a

(01:55:53):
very good Rams team. Now they're home. You mentioned they're
good at home. Well, when they're good end at home,
that's very different. When the Saints have a winning record
at home last twenty one games seventeen three and one
against the spread, seventeen three and one. That's pretty amazing.
Why because the crowd gets really enthused with a winning

(01:56:15):
team and that dome it's a huge advantage. I look
at this Carolina team, cam is hit or miss. And
also you look last week, the scoreboard looked pretty good
against the Jets. They covered two non offensive touchdowns in
that game, which lends that final will be a little
bit deceiving. I like the Saints laying the lumber. Yeah,

(01:56:36):
and uh Austin's ferry and Jenkins had a touchdown wiped
off the board again because of replay, So that that
that makes a ten of sense. Okay, So uh, then
then you have the Eagles traveling to Seattle, traditionally very
difficult place to play, but Seattle totally banged up um
in the defensive backfield and their defensive line hasn't been great.
Offensive lines a little bit better. Eagles have won nine straight,

(01:56:58):
four in a row by twenty or more points um,
and they're the Seahawks are home dogs five and a
half points. Who do you like? Biggest home underdog for
Seattle in Russell Wilson's career, and I like him here
getting a lot of points. Hey, listen, it's built into
the line. The defense isn't what it was, and the
legion of boom isn't there fully or even close to fully.

(01:57:22):
But look at this Eagles team. This team you mentioned it,
four straight twenty plus point wins, only the ninth team
to do that in the same season in the last
thirty years in the NFL. And that that those teams
two and six against the spread in their spots. And
if you look at teams, it's one three in a

(01:57:42):
row by twenty plus thirteen and nineteen against the spread.
What's the logic here, Doug. It's teams get expensive when
they're obviously dominant, and Philadelphia has been obviously dominant. That
means they're expensive. We like cheap teams. We're taking Seattle
plus five and a half. That's our j Bell. Go
to pregame dot com or at r J in Vegas,

(01:58:03):
or just listen to the show. It's called Straight at
Vegas Friday Saturday nights here on Fox Sports Radio r J.
Great stuff. Thanks much for spending time, Thank you, pleasure
is all mine. Tiger made his professional golf return today,
but is he actually back? Get it back back back.
I'll tell you next what true car You can find

(01:58:25):
out what other people in your area paid for the
same car you're looking for, new or used. Visit True
Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience. This from
my man gil Brandt. Russell Wilson is accounted for nineties
six point three percent of Seattle's TVs this season, highest
percentage of any player in the Super Bowl era. Only

(01:58:47):
one offensive touchdown has been scored by the Seahawks this
season that did not involve Wilson. That was a thirty
yard run by j D. Mckissic. That's an amazing stat um. Tomorrow,
Mohammed Sanu will join us from the Falcon. Lorenzo Alexander,
linebacker for the Bills, will join us. We had Wayne
Casey earlier today, we had Jeff schwartz Ledge to day.

(01:59:07):
Who else do we have earlier today? Guys? We had
somebody else earlier in the day. Oh my fre you
who wasn't Cooper Cup, Oh, Cooper Cup. Cooper Cup of
the l A. Rams. If you missed any of those interviews,
download the Doug got Leaves Show podcast. Brad Stevens interview
is on there from a couple of days ago. I
thought that was a good one. We've had some great
stuff Um, Cyndey Kett has been doing an amazing job

(01:59:28):
of booking this show. Ryan Music not really sure what
he does other than whisper in my ear. That's time
we're gonna break Hey read this. Uh. Steve de Seger,
Steve de Sager joins us with the press. The press, Steve,
you've been working hard today. What he got for me? Well,
of course we're gonna lead with Tiger Woods because he's

(01:59:49):
actually playing competitive golf again. As one golf writer put it,
oh golf clap in the background. Thank you, Rama's encouraging
first step for the fourteen time major champ who was
making his first start in over three hundred days, three
under par sixty nine in the first round of the
Bahamas That Hero World Challenge. This guy is in an
eighteen man field, tied for eighth place. Should have had

(02:00:12):
back fused in surgery years ago. Uh, here's the fusion
will provide him. He'll be able to play three four
more years competitive. I think he'll win, He'll win a
couple of tournaments. He might win a major this year.
Um yeah, Now, look, it's gonna hurt his flexibility. And
by the way, when you say this year, people don't
realize the golf year starts before January. Yeah, but I

(02:00:35):
mean more in Yeah, I think he'll win. He'll win
a couple of tournaments in eighteen um and you know,
like and you look at the majors and some of
them he's had success in, most notably augusta obviously very
competitive field, but a lot of the guys in the
field have uh with her down the stretch. Now, we
still don't know if he's gotten rid of the short game. Yep,
so Whateverybody's had plenty of time to work on it.

(02:00:56):
When he's making his if his back doesn't hurt and
he's making his puts six feeting in, there isn't anybody better.
So um, yeah, I think it long term. I Ain
can play for ten more years. And I don't think
you'll have consistently the distance because he doesn't have the flexibility.
But he looks really good early on. Let's see how
he finishes up before we go crazy on the story.

(02:01:18):
To Clay Matthews commenting on the perhaps returning from the
injury list, Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay, a comment from
his teammate, we probably should have kept him off ire.
I mean the way he's coming along. I mean some
of these balls he's throwing accuracy wise, and you know,
everything that a quarterback has to do is pretty remarkable.
That is talking about Aaron Rodgers, who we saw throw
in public before the game in Pittsburgh over the weekend.

(02:01:41):
Is he coming back in December? And in fact, Matthew said,
who knows if it will give us a booster or
a drill, but it's good when he's on the field. Yeah. Look,
it's a hard thing to know to put him on
I are, because you know, do you want to carry
three three quarterbacks, especially when one's not gonna play? And um,
I guess obviously the answer was was yes for them.

(02:02:02):
So it was a hard gamble and that gamble they
may lose because uh, they need him. But look, if
they can win this weekend, that puts them right there
still in the playoff hunt. And I think he'll be
back week A guy who is back this weekend and
starting for the Browns, Josh Gordon, finally back from suspension,
and his coach, Hugh Jackson, was asked about him starting

(02:02:24):
in l A against the Chargers on Sunday. His response
to the media, am I comfortable, saying he'll start. Heck, yeah,
you're kidding me. Yeah, he's gonna start right away. And
then the question will Josh Gordon be on a pitch
count response? Let her rip pitch count with this guy. No, well,
he's he's super super talented, but has been several years

(02:02:45):
since he's three played in the NFL. The idea that
he's gonna come in and set the world of fire.
But what else do they what do they have to lose?
They're the Browns and they're playing against team with an
outstanding pass rush. They need to get They need to
get the ball out of the quarterbacks hands, get it
to him as quickly as possible. For the record, he
will be likely facing Chargers corner Casey Hayward, who was
just named a f C Defensive Player of the Month today.

(02:03:07):
It's been great, he's been great and once last year
Oklahoma state quarterback Mason Rudolph has beaten out Baker Mayfield
of Oklahoma today to win the Johnny United's Golden Arm Award,
getting to the nation's top senior quarterback the awards ceremony
in Baltimore, December eight. Rudolph finished the regular season as
the leading passer in FBS nearly three eighty yards per game.

(02:03:29):
I love Mason Rudolph. He's been a great representative of
my alma mater on and off the football field, and
the numbers are incredible. But come on, really, Baker Mayfield, Okay,
I mean, look, it's given to the best senior quarterback.
They're separated by uh four hundred and fifty yards. Baker

(02:03:51):
Mayfield hasn't lost a road game as the starting quarterback
at Oklahoma, whereas Mason rudolph Is three toughest games were
at home. They lost all three of them. Uh, I
don't know, I don't know. I don't know. I don't
know what we're doing. I oh yeah, By the way,
in those losses, he had six combined interceptions in those
three losses. Like, we didn't play well in the three

(02:04:13):
losses that they had all at home. The other cats
undefeated on the road, Like, what are we doing? I
had mentioned finally that tomorrow morning, FS one has the
World Cup draw a live from Russia, ten am Eastern time.
Another news item coming tomorrow morning, Old Miss football is
going to find out the n C double a ruling.
Lack of institutional control has been alleged fifteen Level one

(02:04:35):
violations is what the rebels are accused of. But they've
gotten a twenty four hour notice from the n c
double A today, so we'll find out the results. Is
the self imposed stuff enough to sway the n c
A not to go with more penalties tomorrow. No, I
think they'll they'll get hammered pretty good. But they changed coaches. Uh,
they gutted this thing, and they'll get hit, but they're

(02:04:56):
not gonna it's not gonna be like some such sort
of devastating a penalty like they launched. They launched on
USC because they have self imposed and said we've done
some things wrong by get out there and pressed. That
was the press. I'm not Golaudia kind of think the
Cowboys are a little bit of a mess and um,

(02:05:16):
cowboys are at home, but Cowboys have never had a
great home field advantage. Redskins are two point favorites. I
think they went by more than that. This is the
