Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Boom, What Up America, Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to you today from
Since City, actually Las Vegas, Nevada. Gotta get my Vegas
fixed in here before the new year. Yeah, well listen, um,
(00:25):
there's a lot of things that that we need to discuss.
It is. It is interesting. This is my first time
in Vegas since the uh since the tragic shooting over
outside Mandalais Bay. Well, that's a that's just you and
and for a second, I honestly landed forgot right, that's
kind of what you do. Right. The flight to Vegas
is so much different than the flight coming back from Vegas. Right,
people are all energized. It's kind of full of hope,
(00:48):
you know. Land You're like, I'm I'm I'm even right now.
I just hope to break even, you know, and maybe
win some money. And then you know, the flight back,
people stayed out too late, drank too much, eight too much,
lost too much. It's like, oh boy, right, percentage of
happy people on the way home from Vegas. So they
may be happy, may be content, but I was. I
(01:09):
was walking into Thomas and Mac which is the arena
or UNLV plays and they played and I played Northern
Colorado and doing the game. You can watch it on Facebook.
It's kind of cool of doing a bunch of Facebook
games this year and kind of relaxed chill broadcast to
where you can actually message me on Facebook during the
game and I can talk about your messages obviously, you know,
keep them p g if you if you would. Um.
(01:35):
But and I saw a science in Vegas Strong It's like,
oh my gosh, I I had forgotten. I've forgotten. I
don't know, and I know that that like what did
the after Sports? Nothing except you know, this is our
last show before Christmas and um our last show of
the new year. And I do think that every once
(01:56):
in a while, like not always, like I do. I
think it's good to take stock, sure, but I let's
not go overboard and have to take stock every day. Right.
This is like guy who praise guy right, like you
can like it's cool, I'm I'm cool with you. Everybody
with people praying for stuff, but like dude, every day
or for every meal, I don't know, it just feels
(02:17):
a little bit overboard, almost like God's upstairs going like
got it, I know it? Okay, thanks, You're welcome. Moving on.
Um anyway, I do think that holiday season is a
is a great time to stop and go take stock.
(02:38):
But like, yeah, you know what, stick, I'm still here,
still got it going pretty good. And landing in Vegas
today and thinking about the tragic massacre of so many
in Las Vegas kind of put me in that place
to where I I too was. I was thinking about it.
All right, let's get to sports, shall we. So there
were many um thoughts as to why Tom Brady's trainer
(03:02):
was essentially asked to not be around the rest of
the Patriots. Remember, his trainer was allowed access to the
team plane sideline to other players in the team, and
earlier this week, the Patriots said like, hey, dude, you
can still keep your office in the stadium, you can
still work out with TV and do your TV twelve
(03:22):
Methods stuff. But let's stay away from the rest of
the guys. Let's stay away from the sideline. Let's uh,
let's stay off the team plane. And I heard all
kinds of theories. I heard Colin Cowherd, my good friend, say, look,
this is simply them trying to ruin any relationship between
(03:44):
Brady and the team they've already traded away the two
backup quarterbacks. They're trying to leave it in bad fashion
so that Bill Belichick when he retires, the team will
tank and it will look his make his success look
even better. Alright, that's a that's a hypothe season. Then
I've heard others, even me, I said like, look, this
(04:05):
is kind of what they've done. They've always kept Tom
Brady everybody else in check. It turns out that there
was a straw that broke the camel's back. That straw,
quite simply was the fact that apparently one of the
other players who was supposed to work out for the team,
supposed to do squats for the team instead was doing
(04:27):
whatever tom Brady's trainer said he should be doing. I can,
I can actually totally completely relate to this. First, let's
hear from Tom Brady, get his thoughts in the matter.
They'll never told you that he was sideliner. Well, I
have a lot of conversations with him, so it was
our private between he and I, and I don't think
(04:50):
anyone knows what we talked about. Certain I've never talked
about it, and he's never talked about it, So I
don't know what you're talking about, Uh, how do you
know what he said? Yeah, I'm not saying anything. And
how do you say that he said anything? You don't
know anything about that. Yeah. Look, my read in the
(05:10):
situation is this when you read the story that came
out today in the Boston media that one of the
other Patriots was supposed to work out, its supposed to
do squats, and they're like, look, we're not doing squats. Um.
This this happens frequently. It happens frequently in that the
(05:31):
team hires a strength coach, and the strength coaches kind
of look, do they individualize each guy's strength program? Yeah,
but it's still a traditional strength program. I think many
of you have heard the name Todd urnovits right, former
first round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders, who of
course started for the Raiders as a rookie atter playing
at USC was robot quarterback and then uh flamed out
(05:52):
after he um. After he um. He did not after
you had to have to have drug problems. So I
his dad, who was a former NFL player and a
former NFL strength coach, was my personal one of my
two personal strength coaches coming up, as you know, in
(06:15):
high school and into college, and I like, when I
went to Notre Dame, I was a hundred and sixty pounds.
I was old for a freshman. I was nineteen, gonna
turn twenty, but I was a hundred and sixty pounds.
And when I got to Notre Dame, we started their
strength and strength conditioning program, and that was when people
first started using creating and um when I did, like,
(06:38):
I put on size. I looked. I looked like a bodybuilder.
My body at that point in time reacted really really
well to weight training, and I was a hundred and
seventy seven pounds with three and a half four percent
body fat. I was ripped, but I had lost some
of the explosiveness that I had previously. And when I
went home, I started working back out with Murdovich and
(06:59):
his many of you know, I had to leave Notre Dame,
but I did have to make one more appearance at
Notre Dame for a court appearance. When I did, I
came back and I worked out with the team and
I was lean duncan and I was jumping. They're like,
what have you been doing? I was like, I went
back to training the way I used to train. When
I got to Oklahoma State. UM, my strength coach was
a champion dead lifter, and we did kind of the
(07:24):
same same strength program that the that the football team did,
and while again gained a ton of gained a ton
of size and strength and was yoked, the fact is
that it wasn't the best for me in terms of athletically.
So the summer between my sophomore in junior year, my
coach and assistant coach, they were out in California. They
(07:46):
saw me work out with Mrnovich. Then they saw me
work out privately, uh in a in a one on
one individual session on basketball floor and like, what have
you been doing? I was like, I'm not doing any
of the stuff that Dan Austin had me doing at
Oklahoma State. It was two too many, too many dead lives,
too many squats, too many traditional kind of American there's
strength training, clean and jerk like. We didn't do any
(08:09):
of that stuff. We did balance, flexibility. H Brady calls
it elasticity. We did a lot of core work. Many
of the things you see done now, we were doing.
This is going back twenty years ago. And now, look
I was I was fortunate that my college coach let
me for my last two years of my career have
(08:31):
my own strength and conditioning program in terms of weightlifting
and and plios and all of those stuff that I
didn't have to do any of their stuff. I had
to do their their running, but none of the stuff.
But had my strength coach come and stayed on campus,
had he started working out with other players, there's a
good chance he would have offended uh, the strength coach,
(08:55):
and there would have been a butting of the heads,
and this would eventually have happened. So I do think
at some point we look at this with complete sinister eyes,
like we're like, oh, this is the beginning of the
end of their relationship. When this stuff happens all the time.
It happens in in medicine, where there's Eastern medicine, right,
and there's Western medicine. And some of these Eastern medical
(09:16):
techniques have been around for thousands of years. Some of
them work, some of them, some of them don't. And
it's hard to get Western medicine to buy into older
practices that are that are built on kind of older theories,
not as much on science. So I'm I'm I'm honestly fascinated,
(09:39):
fascinated by the fight between new age techniques biomechanics and
different types of strength and conditioning training and that of
kind of old school, though it does evolve strength training
and the you know, strength coach fights are always interesting, right,
(10:04):
but I think sometimes we need to take a breath
and look at this and think that it's a it's
a peeing contest, right, it's a that's what it is
between men, and this is the Patriots putting Tom Brady
in place, and then just kind of start to realize, like, look,
I get it, Brady's quarterback, which doesn't require nearly the
same sort of strength and conditioning program of anybody else.
(10:26):
If you go back and look like Brady Quinn was
built like a bohemoth, yet he couldn't he couldn't throw
the ball accurately. A lot of people still believe in
football that though you can be strong, you can't be
yoked up because if you if you lose that flexibility,
that elasticity, if you will, you can't be accurate with
your passings and you're more likely to break down. And
there's always gonna be the push between raw strength and
(10:50):
power guys in the game of football, which has always
worked and different both old and new age techniques that
revolve more elasticity, core work flexibility than they do pure
ross strength. I kind of think that's what has come
down to, and I think we're searching otherwise because we
(11:10):
just don't have enough stories. That's my guess. That's my
honest guest. Um. Look, Celtics lost again last night. I
do think they're regressing towards the mean. Continues to fascinate me.
How many games New York Knicks win in spite of
the fact they trade away Carmelo Anthony. It feels like
(11:33):
that Cleveland Cavaliers are coming back around to where we
thought they would be. Lakers tonight get another shot at
the Golden State Warriors. There's some hoop to talk about.
There's some Bowl games to talk about, Guys playing in ballgames,
guys sitting bowl games. There's the Baker Mayfield gonna play
in uh in the Senior Bowl as well. You know,
here's what we'll do. I will bring in Albert Brier
(11:54):
from the mm QB. I'll ask Kim what's really going
on in New England. I want to ask him about
some of these other clubs, like the Pittsburgh Steelers. Seems
like it's been a bad week following a disappointing finish
to a fantastic game against the Patriots. What are we
overreacting to the way in which Ben Roethlisberger is handed
handled the post the postgame pressers that have followed Albert
(12:20):
Brier from the MMQB joins us up coming next. First, though,
I heard this crazy story over the weekend about these
twins who grew up only to find out that their
mom doesn't know who their real father is. This just
crushes these dudes. So the brothers set out on a
mission to find their dad, and turns out their mom
was a bit of a wild child back in the day,
(12:41):
so there are many options on who their dad could be,
like a former NFL player, a small town veterinarian, a
big city cop, a coked out hedge fund guy. It
seems like literally anybody could be their dad. They fly
all over the country. These dudes are piecing together clues,
meeting up with all sorts of crazy characters, cat crashing funerals,
picking up hitchhikers, getting shot at, getting into all sorts
(13:02):
of crazy situations just to find the old man. And
then at the end it turns out psych I'm not
gonna give you the ending. This is the plot of
Father Figures. Father Figures is a hilarious new comedy starring
Owen Wilson and l Ed Helms. It also has a
bunch of other awesome people. Father Figures now playing. It's
rated R. Car shopping can be confusing with terms like
(13:24):
dealer price, list price, an invoice price. True Car shows
what other people paid for the car you want. You
can recognize a good price when you're ready to buy
a new or used car. Visit True Car and enjoy
more confident car buying experience. Dog Got Leave Show, Fox
Sports Radio. Kind of weird weekend the NFL. Right, it's
(13:47):
always interesting me to me about how teams complain about
scheduling and you know, except, of course I don't know. Like, look,
I get the not having a bye before Thursday night
football is a big thing, and there are some player
safety stuff, but like, no one seems to complain about
(14:08):
when they're playing on Saturdays. Yet that's a day earlier,
a day less prep. Granted, um, two days less prep
is far more disadvantageous for both teams, but always interesting
the complaining that goes on. And we'll see how it
affects teams heading forward. There is this Brady story, which
is interesting. You know what's going on there between the
relationship and Belichick and Brady, a relationship between Brady and
(14:30):
the and and the Patriots as a whole. And then
of course there's the Pittsburgh's Here is the team they
just beat, although it was really um the cockamamie rule
about what is and what is in the catch completing
the process of but how things went down and how
Ben Roethlisberger has handled relaying how things went down caused
a ton of intrigue. And then you have some of
(14:51):
the bad teams and what they'll do this weekend. Let's
bring in Albert Brier from the mm QB dot com.
He joins us on the Doug got Lip Show. Let's
start with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They lose, and there has
been this continual kind of back and forth between Mike
Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger. My assessment and again from Afar
and with far less knowledge than you have, is well,
(15:13):
maybe this is part of the reason that the Steelers,
though they have a spectacular record eleven and three, have
been a little bit disjointed, have been a little bit
disappointing in that the quarterback and the head coach aren't
really on the same page and maybe offensive coordinator two
and when things go bad, there's a lot of finger pointing.
Is that fair? Yeah, I mean I think you could
certainly see what look at some level of this organizations
(15:35):
hand to that game. Um, And you know, I think
it's very fair to say with the difference between the
two teams, you know, and in the way the Patriots
handled the last two minutes and the way the steel
channel in the two last two minutes, you could certainly
see the difference, you know, in particular on that last
play where if you look to the to the left
of the Steelers offensive formation, there too two receivers standing
(15:58):
there and moving and that allowed um, you know, one
of the Patriots defensive backster on harm and the peel
off and be standing right there when the ball came.
And so you know, I think that the lack of
communication on the field and the disorganization is kind of
bubble to the service with the comments during the week
(16:19):
and and and what has Electant we used I think
to all of us on the outside like some level
finger pointing. Okay, what about the what about the Patriots. UM,
the Patriots, they have this weird deal where they had
Tom Brady's trainer. Tom Brady wrote a book with him,
he had incorporated several other Patriots into his TV twelve method.
And now of a sudden, we get to the end
(16:40):
of a season in which they'll probably have the number
one seed in the a f C, and we kind
of find out via the Boston Globe that there's no
access to the sideline or to the plane that was
previously granted to that same trainer. What he's going on
in Boston. You know, I, Doug, I don't think it's
gonna affect Um. They're run the Super Bowl fifty to
UM and their ability to win a championship. But I
(17:03):
certainly think it's things that kind effect because this is
the relationship this is, you know, these are relationships at
the highest level of the organization, the relationship between the
owner and the coach, and the quarterback and the coach
and UM. You know, Look, I think as much as
anything else, this isn't about Brady Um getting treatment from
Alice Guerrero. It's about the recruitment of other players and
(17:26):
how that's caused friction UM with the medical staff, the
strength staff, the training staff, and so something I think
Belichicks felt like he's had to manage, and you know,
to be the most interesting thing is run the macro
issue here, which you know, I think there's some level
of uneasiness and the organization about what all this is
going to look like post Brady. And you know, it's
(17:47):
something that I think really has been there for some time,
but it's become more serious thing since they traded Garoppolo,
because I don't think everybody in the organization felt like
it was time to trade Garoppolo when they did it.
And you know, now you look at it and you see,
not only is the quarterback so important ever they do
on the field, the most valuable player in my opinion
(18:08):
in the NFL by far two thousands and seventeen, but
you also see a lot of players in that long
room leaning on him in different ways and ways off
the field too, and so um, you know, there's just
a lot going on there. And again, you know, they've
always been able to departmentalize, compartmentalize these things and focus
on what's important and take care of things that they
(18:29):
need to take care of them. And that's why I'm
telling you right now. I don't think it's gonna have
any effect on their ability to pursue a six championship
over the next two months, you know, I I do
think it's something that we need to keep, we need,
we need to keep an eye on going forward, something
that could affect them beyond seen. Let's go to the
kind of other end of the league. Eli Manning is
(18:50):
still the starting quarterback for the New York Giants after
that one week respite, and then of course, uh he
gets the job back. The coach loses job, the general
manager loses his job. But it wasn't the idea was
a sound one to eventually play Davis Webb. But Davis's
Webb is still listed as the third string quarterback. So
when are they gonna When are we gonna actually see
Davis's Webb. Well, I think what they're telling us, um
(19:13):
all of us, is they it's not that important that
they see Davis's Webb. You know that they m are
going to go forward into the off season, um with
and again, we don't know which way is gonna go
until we have an idea of who's gonna be calling
the shots. But I think it does tell you that
they're gonna go forward into the off season the quarterback
(19:35):
in the future. Quarterbacks me very much at the top
of their agenda. Um. If they had pushed David's Webb
out there two weeks ago, then I think you look
at it, you say, Okay, they think they have something here.
But the fact that they're not, you know, forcing forcing
the issues there and in finding a way to get
him on the field. I remember, he's he wasn't. It's
not like he was the tenth take of the fifties
thick in the draft. He's the third. He was the
(19:55):
third round pick. UM. Thing tells us that whoever the
next Annal manager is is going to come in and
going to probably look at the team and say, if
we have a top five pick and it looks right
now like the Googy topics taking in the top two
or three, Um, then the quarterback for the next ten
fifteen years is a priority here, and we're gonna be
(20:15):
looking very hard at Sam Donald, Josh Rosen and the
rest of them. And hey, I wouldn't rule out either
do the idea that they try and keep Eli Manning
and draft a young quarterback. Um. Certainly, with the way
the economics work, with rookie players. Now that's feasible and
the only thing that you really need to do to
accomplish sent to make sure you live being okay with it.
And okay was kind of helping Shepard along as a replacement.
(20:38):
But I think something that's very much in play for
whoever the next years. Albert Albert Brier joining us in
the Doug Gottlib Show here on Fox Sports Radio. The
mm QB dot COM's website and it's just an outstanding
site for anything football. Uh, let me get to the Jaguars.
I thought, you know, when once the Giant season was
lost before the trade deadline, that's out. Well, Eli Manning
(21:01):
should be playing there because everyone knows Blake Bortles can't play.
But then Blake Bortles suddenly can play. Um, what's the
feeling around the league about the over the level of
competence for Blake Portles? You know what? I think it
tells you. It's just I think it's sort of explains
in a very interesting way how important environment is. Let's see,
(21:23):
if you noticed, Doug, who you know the Jaguars most
the biggest injury they've had this year? Who is it?
It wasn't for Net. They've played well without letter for Net,
who's the number one receiver? Okay? And now there and
now and now they just tell me if I'm wrong,
But what's his name? Marquis Lee's out with an ankle
(21:47):
injury this week. I mean, I don't know how much
that matters. So and so they they've had those issues
at receiver, and ye Blake has happen his best year.
And I would argue the reason why is because everything
around him is better, and because he doesn't need to
throw for three yards, and because you're not playing from
behind a bunch um. You know. I think we always
(22:08):
think when we when we look at you think we
always think a the best wayer to help him is
to give him a bunch of guys to throw too.
And I don't think that's necessarily right. I mean, I
think what you're seeing with like Bartles now, it's sort
of like what you saw was he was Dak Prescott
last year, which is if you give a young quarterback
a running game and you give him a defense and
(22:30):
what you're asking him to do is banageable, then he
can grow. And so I think we've seen that the
last three or four weeks from like Bartles is that
you're putting him into a more comfortable situation. You're not
asking the world of him, and he can go out
there and just play. And so, you know, I don't
know whether or not I'm not I'm not. I'm not
going to sit here and tell you that he's gonna
be the quarterback for the next ten years. What I
(22:53):
would say is that, you know, he had a dumps
he he he had an absolute tire fire around him
his first two years, and I think it's confidence was
shot coming out of last year, and it's them taking
them a while to rebuilt that um. But you know,
right now it looks like they've got a competent NFL
quarterback there. Now, you you want a lot more than
that if you're taking a guy. But I think that
(23:16):
what we've seen so far this year and and and
the difference in Blake from September to December, I think
shows you how important building the right support system around
the quarterback is. And that isn't always just about putting
guys who catch the ball. And you know, the Raiders
had done that going back to last year Albert, and
of course they won so many close games that could
(23:37):
have gone either way, maybe that gave us completely artificial
understanding of how good the Raiders were and all the
outside of khalil Mac. They don't have a pass rush,
the offensive line wasn't as good as it was supposed
to be, wasn't its dumb And then all of a sudden,
the wide receivers just like drops went through that team
like the flu. Uh. Now you've got this dysfunctional environment
(23:59):
where you get rid of a coordinator before the season
is done. Players are upset. When the dust settles, what
happens in Oakland, I think that there's going to be
some sort of showdowns the wrong word, but I think
that there's gonna be some sort of meeting um where
they're gonna talk about the staff and what Jack's got
(24:20):
to do with this staff, because there's just been too
much chaos there. They've they've turned over two coordinators, Bill
Musgrave and now more recently Ken dorton Um in a
time since they went twelve and four s and there
have been more internal issues on the staff and the
lake of all of that. And so I think the
(24:42):
first thing you're gonna look at it is where does
the staff look like coming back? And if Jack's asked
to fire certain guys on his staff. Is you're gonna
be willing to do that and move forward. So that's
the first thing, um, you know, And I think that's
something it's you know, it doesn't sound to the average
fan like a big deal, but it is. I mean,
I think it's gonna be big for them to handle
in the first few weeks of the offseason, you know.
(25:04):
And then I I think it's rebuilding the strength they
had in the offensive line last year. I think their
defensive front is gonna be fine, but they gotta get
a lot better at linebacker than in the defensive backfield.
And one of the key things here, um, is just
kind of how injuries and hold out has played a
part here. Now Again, that offensive line was a huge
strength for them. Well, Donald Penn held out for um,
(25:25):
you know, for the entire summer, and when he came back,
he wasn't quite the same player. And I think that
affected everybody in the offensive line. And they were going
to rely on a couple of rookies and Gary and
Connley and oil Final in the secondary, and both those
guys got hurt, and the linebacker position while they were
planning on on on on, dressing that in the draft,
but the draft called the way they wanted too. So
(25:46):
there were a bunch of little circumstances along the way
that have sort of led to the team not being
near what it was last year. And then that's kind
of that kind of the staffish underlying there to the surface.
And now, of course they've got doing a nice job
over the next few months of of resetting all of
that and getting it right. Um, I'm wondering about the Seahawks.
(26:08):
It feels like they're going to have to at least
refresh the house, if you will, maybe gut it to
the studs. And what that means for Pete Carroll. Um,
here's the guy that's a lot older than I think
people think he is. Does Pete Carroll having in him
for for a rebuild in Seattle? Oh? I think it's
an open question. I think it's something we're gonna be
talking about in January. You know it's I mean, look,
(26:29):
you know and you said it, there's there's a there's
a lot of decisions that they have coming. Um Cliff
Avril and camp Chancellor of injuries that are I mean
career threatening. You know that they both have neck injuries
and they've got those two guys, have got a lot
to think about. Michael Bennets thirty two years. Uh, you
know the secondary, Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas will be
(26:51):
going into contract years um. And that's I have five guys.
They are at the core of everything that you've been
over the last few years, and so I think they
need to make decisions there. And I know the general manager,
John Schneider, has always been aggressive about these sorts of things.
The trouble for them, Doug, is the lack of draft picks.
(27:12):
If you're going to replenish the roster and you're gonna
turn around and do things, um that are going to
make you younger, you know, generally the draft has to
be at the heart of all of that. And they
don't have a second round pick or a third round
pick this year, and they don't have a second round
pick next year as a result of going out and
getting Dwayne Brown and Sheldon Richardson over the last few months.
(27:33):
And those are two moves over very much winning moves,
and so I think there's going to be a pretty
high level of a turnover in the roster, and I
think we could see star players going away. The problem
for them is what you do on the back end.
And yeah, I mean I think if I'm Pete Carroll
and I'm sixty six years old, on the first question
I'm asking myself is do I really want to do
(27:54):
this for another three or four years? Because if they
are going to press reset on everything, um, they and
you know, obviously you have to be willing to go
through at least a tough year and maybe two to
get back to where you've been, where you've contumarily been
over the last few years. Our beer joins from then, MQB.
You know, listen, UM, I know everybody, myself included, were
(28:16):
infatuated with the Jimmy Garoppolo video, NFL films and the
turning point story Uh at the end of the Tennessee
Titans game. You compound that with all the draft picks
that uh, that John Lynch has acquired, and you're like,
all right, San Francisco, they got their stuff together. Uh,
they're gonna be good along with the Rams for years
to come. But one thing that I'm kind of taken by,
(28:36):
and I don't know if you noticed this in that
in that same video, the fact that the fact that
Jimmy Garoppolo knew what the Titans were doing, and the
Titans did nothing to adjust what they were doing. Like
that was as that was as troubling. As impressive as
Garoppolo was, that was equally troubling. Did you take that
away as well? You know what, Like what's interesting about
(28:57):
it is, you know, we were just talking about doing
on the Pittsburg And I would contend that's why New
England's always beats Pittsburgh because if you give the Patriots
the answer to the test, they're always going to pass
up with flying colors. And the Steelers have always been
that we do what we do team and you can't
be that way against New England. Well, where's Jimmy Garoppolo
from New England? Where is Dick labone type coordinator from there?
(29:24):
It is for you. I'm not surprised that Jimmy is
able to excel in that environment because he's around a
quarterback over the last three and a half years that's
always been able to I guess more of his game
is the very way to put it on the fly,
too exploit the weaknesses of the opponent. And so it's
something that not every quarterback can do. But I think
(29:46):
Jimmy's ability to recognize what was in front of them,
know it, and go after it and exploit it not
only makes him a little different than a lot of
other quarterbacks out there, it also makes them a perfect
fit for Kyle Shanahan and it just underscores all of
the reasons why, um, you know, the Diners, both Kyle
and John Lynchward so high on him during the seventeen
(30:08):
offseason and made those calls to try to get him
out of New England Van and then ultimately we're over
the moon when they found out he was available in October.

Is the Doug Otlives Show on Fox Sports Radio. Let's
get you to Steve to Seger find out what else
(30:51):
is going on in the world of sports. We got
another Bowl game blowout. What are you starting with, Steve?
Did you hear about quarterback J T. Daniels Modern Day
High School and Southern California? I did? Uh, And for
people who don't know, go ahead, you can tell the
story and then I'll tell the J. T. Daniel story.
But go ahead. He wants to go to USC, of course,
but he wants to go now. This is the National
player of the Year on the number one ranked team.
(31:11):
He's gonna enroll at the university next month, even though
he's a high school junior. That would require n C
double A approval reclassification. But that's apparently what Marvin Bagley
of Duke did from Southern California last year. Al Right,
Marvin Bagley. And now one thing about Marvin Bagley is
I think Bagley already nineteen, whereas jay T. I think
(31:33):
he's seventeen or eighteen or whatever. Um. No, Look, he's
he's awesome, and uh, he's from very close to me.
And I have Modern Day is the Juggernaut program. It's
a private school that they've produced Matt Liner, they produced Tomnovich,
we talked about, they produced a litany of star quarterbacks
and players overall, Matt Barkley as well, So a lot
(31:54):
of USC guys. And then I live around USC, USC football,
Arizona basketball, all people and both are feeders Orange Counties
feeders for both. So if he gets approval, it's this
different than early enrollment, where you finished your senior year
of high school and then in January you're at the
college you're going to. This is this is without a
senior year of high school playing. If again, if he
(32:16):
gets n C double approval, that bowl game, like he's
he's been at, everybody knew he's gonna be a gonna
be a dude for a for a long long time.
I think the big question is does this mean that
they know Sam Donald's leaving. That's the big question. Yeah.
And from the reports, like Scott Wolf has covered sc
for years, he's saying, from the high schooler's perspective, he
wants to do this whether Donald is staying or going,
(32:37):
there is a college football game to in fact on
this schedule, Ohio, you about to win the dreaded Bahamas
Bowl over you a b It's forty one to six
with about a minute to go coming up in Boise,
Wyoming against Central Michigan. No more ranked teams play in
bowl games until December. FS one that night will have
a Top twenty matchup in the Holiday Bowl. Quarterback Baker
(32:59):
Mayfield a bout Lahoma, We'll go to the Senior Bowl.
Mayfield will be in the Rose Bowl against Georgia. The
Senior Bowl is late January seven at All Star Game.
Also due to be in Mobile, Alabama that week. Oklahoma
State quarterback Mason Rudolph and Washington State quarterback Luke Fulk.
Falcon's wide receiver Julio Jones, with his ankle and thumb injuries,
will play Sunday at New Orleans. Raiders wide receiver and
(33:21):
Marii Cooper with a bad ankle, returned to practice. Oakland's
at Philadelphia on Monday night. Bill's wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin,
with his bad knee, was limited in practiced again, and
Jacksonville wide receiver markis Lee is out this weekend with
an ankle injury. Jaguars wide receiver Alan Hearn's trying to
come back from a bad ankle, is questionable for the
game at San Francisco back to you. Yeah, so JT.
(33:44):
I mean, look, the big question is does J T.
Daniels uh does he want to? You know? He said, quote,
I've I've started forty games at the varsity level in
the toughest league in the in the country. I don't
know as toughest leag but they have played. They played
Bishop Gorman from Vegas. They go around the country play teams. Um,
and I didn't think I need another year of high
school football. My best friends are in the two thousand
(34:06):
eighteen classes of guys who grew up playing with I
want to graduate with them and start the next chapter
of my life. So yeah, okay, I mean, like, look,
he's a four point student and if you can do it,
you can do it. Bruce Wallinson is the head coach there,
and he's called this his his best team ever. Um,
(34:28):
he's only seventeen years old. I don't know, Like, if
he's going there and he's gonna red shirt, it would
make more sense playing right away. But I get it.
You play that much in high school and you're like
ready for something else. These dudes are just not that good,
just not that good. Gonna be fascinating to see how
(34:49):
this plays out, but the common assumption is that he's
going because he knows that Sam and Arld also an
Orange County product, although from like a public school and
Clementing a kind of a random public school. Is UM
is going to UM is gonna lose Donald. I don't
know if that's the case, be as Donna want to
(35:10):
go play in Cleveland? Is the big question? Uh, where
will Lebron James play next season? L a Cleveland, Houston?
I'll tell you. Next online shopping and be confusing, well

(35:35):
That's the island greeting that will bring you. So. Uh,
you know. There's a basketball tournament guys called the Diamond
Head Classic takes place at the u h Manoloa, which
is University Hawaii, and I've I've actually called that tournament
three times, so I think my wife only came out once,
so twice. I actually spend Christmas morning of a loan
(35:57):
in Hawaii. It's amazing, Galey, I shouldn't have gotten off
that train. That was a good. That was a good
train to be on. The diamond Ed Classic. That was
that was a fun deal. I'd stay at We stay
at the Sheraton, which is, uh, what's the little pink
hotel right next right next door to it where they
(36:18):
used to be Elvis's like favorite hotel. Anyway, Um, if
you're ever thinking of like, I'm in Vegas. Vegas for
Christmas awesome and Hawaii for Christmas also awesome destination Christmas.
I'm all for it. Santa makes Santa makes house calls
wherever you are, Let's play a game. This is game
(36:39):
time on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Steve the Seger is
in Steve. I know the game is Psychic. You know
why psychic? All right? Do you know where all three
of us are spending Christmas? Psychic Music's with his parents. Uh,
Ramos is with his Emley And I'll be here and
(37:02):
you'll be there. Question number one. The NFC South an
interesting division race, certainly as we get to these last
couple of weeks of the NFL season and Panthers and
Saints at tenant four Falcons just behind Panthers Head coach
Ron Rivera thinks their week seventeen matchup with the Falcons
(37:23):
will be the one that's flexed into prime time? Psychic
will that be the one? Uh? No? I believe both
the Raiders and the Chargers will win this week. They'll
have an opportunity to be in the playoffs, and that
will be the game that's flexed into a twenty five
thousand seat soccer stadium for Sunday night football. That will
(37:46):
be That will be one which will be a vicious
road game for the for the l A Chargers, because
that is the heart of Raiders Raiders Country. Yes, the
stadium is right next to Compton and by the way,
Jacksonville at Tennessee is probably the only other can we
call a worthy candidate to be flexed into primetime that
final weekend. Nobody's flexing jackson in a tennis There you go.
So if the Panthers and Falcons both win this week,
(38:08):
then their game the next week would be for the
conference title. A loser could make the playoffs as a
wild card. The bad news for the NFL is what
if all the playoff spots in one conference are set
after this weekend, They'll have even less to choose from
going to Week seventeen. Something's gonna be flexed into that
Sunday night to finish it out. Though number two tight
end Rob Gronkowski of the Patriots restructured his contract in
(38:31):
the off season, it created these incentives. Apparently, he's already
earned four and a half mill by getting a thousand
yards receiving. He has a potential two mill more he
can get if he reaches playing time on the year
or up to eighty catches or twelve hundred receiving yards
or All Pro honors. That's both conferences combined. Will Gronkowski
(38:51):
get another two million dollar bonus this season? If he does,
he have to hit all of those in order to
get any of those. Apparently, Um, remember remember you missed
the one game because of suspension. Uh, Gronk in terms
of receptions is at sixty four two games left. If
he plays in both games, that's the big that's the
(39:12):
big question. Oh that's a hard one, Um, Buffalo at
home and the Jets at home. I'm gonna say he
and what was the other one? The All Pro tight
end both conferences combined, not Pro Bowl, not that All
Star game, but the all I know what I'll prose.
But there was one other one. There was eighty catchy
(39:34):
time with the team. I couldn't tell you his percentage
of snaps for the years. Yeah, I couldn't tell that
either because he missed the game. Does that count against
him when he's suspended like that one? I don't know.
I'll say no, he does not receive any of those bonuses.
In other words, you're saying he may be sitting out
some time week seventeen, yeah or just yeah, Yes. Coming
up for Gronk and the Patriots this Sunday, the rematch
(39:57):
with the Bills. Of course, it was Gronkowski who was
suspended four his late hit on a Bill's corner. True
devious White, who has previously said the whole hood wants him,
Will a Bill's defensive player this weekend? Try to get
revenge a cheap shot maybe on Grounk? Yes? One percent
for this week? Yes, Uh, we have an NBA question
(40:19):
for you, psychic. There are a number of rumors regarding
lebron James future. Where is he getta finish? Where is
he going next summer? Obviously the Lakers have been part
of the rumor. Now ESPN saying the Rockets have emerged
since they have a new deep pockets owner Tilman for Tita,
would he would be willing to pay. The report says
pay into the luxury text in order to keep Chris
Paul and get Lebron on the roster. Will Lebron beyond
(40:41):
the Calvs roster at the start of next season? Um? Nope,
have been the Lakers roster. Wow? Having nothing to do
with the deep pockets of the Rockets and the great
record of the Rockets. You still think the Lakers are
a better possibility for Lebron James next summer. Yep, yep.
(41:02):
And finally, Vince McMahon, this came out in the last
couple of weeks. Could be maybe putting money aside for
a new XFL. Will we see a new successful version
of the XFL? In the important word there is successful. Uh.
The answer is no. If they do have another XFL,
it like the previous one will fail. This is game
(41:27):
time on the Doug Gottlieb Show. The most fascinating part
of the final couple of weekends of the season is
to play or to sit? Give you my long standing opinion.
Next in the Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. What up,
Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. I hope you got
(41:48):
all your shopping done. M I hope you're excited to
open your gifts. Do do do do Do Do Do
Do do do UM. So I was looking at them,
looking at the schedule the last two weeks of the
(42:09):
season and looking at where teams stand in the in
the NFL, and you know, we don't have the quandary
that so many teams have in the past, which was um,
which was you know, like, hey, do you go how
long do you try and maintain your undefeated status? Remember
(42:30):
when the Cults were undefeated and they sat there, guys,
and they lost in the playoffs. And I I know that,
I do know that that there are there is something
to be said for playing the first weekend and not
getting the by, right. There have been plenty of teams
that have gotten the by that have ended up losing
their first game. And the thought is you're rusty, And
(42:51):
you're not just rusty from the bye. You're rusty because
sometimes you didn't play weeks seventeen. But I don't know.
I the number one thing that derails a football team
is not rust it's health. It just is. And if
(43:12):
it's me, I just I don't even think it's a
conversation to be had. Now. The other thing you need
to know is that while you you have fifty three
in the active roster, there's really forty six guys playing
like they're just certain positions to which you can't sit guys.
You you know, you don't have the depth of guys
(43:33):
to play in the last two weekends, so you gotta
play him. But whether you're the Vikings at eleven and three, like, hey,
how hard do we go after home field advantage throughout?
Or whether you're the new England Page charts who are
eleven and three who right now would have home field advantage,
like I'm I'm always if I if it's if it's
(43:54):
even a discussion, do I rest him? Do I sit him?
I always go on the side of rest, always, always, always, always, always.
And then when you factor in the injury, the previous
injury history of a Rob Gronkowski, the age of a
Tom Brady, or if you're the Vikings, you take down
you take the fact that you know, you go back
(44:14):
two weeks ago and that offensive line had been decimated
by injuries, or with your quarterback, you're already dealing with
the backup quarterback. And as much as everybody loves Teddy Bridgewater.
Let's be honest, Teddy Bridgewater in the one playoff game
he started wasn't great. He hasn't started a game since,
and in no way do you think Teddy Bridgewater is
honestly truly ready to start a playoff game. And so yeah,
(44:41):
this is one of those ones where I don't think
it's close. Now, look, the decision is obviously not as
clear for a team like the Rams. But if you're
the Rams, you can't risk losing Todd Gurley. Um, if
your Rams, you can't risk losing Jared Golf Like you
are so much that are off playing Sean Mannion, you
(45:03):
are so much better off given carries to Malcolm Brown.
Then you are trying to win your final two games,
and and put a number out there. The only defense
for a team like the Vikings, for example, the only defense,
or maybe even the Eagles, And I don't think the Eagles,
like I just I don't think you can play um,
(45:25):
I don't think you can play a backup quarterback in
Week seventeen. And just that it's a bad it's a
bad plan. I think the only reason, the only logic
behind the Vikings or the Eagles doing it is And
you could say this with the Patriots because their home
playoff records is so good. But I mean, I don't
(45:48):
think anyone believes. I think the chance of the Vikings
going to a Super Bowl is far stronger if they
don't have to leave home. Same thing with the Eagles.
I mean, obviously, same thing with the Saints, but they
don't have a chance choice. They gotta go for it anyway.
They gotta play their guys anyway. But that's the only
thing if I'm the Vikings like, look, we're not we're
(46:11):
we got backup running backs, we got a backup quarterback. Maybe,
but I don't know. You look at all the injuries
that they've sustained and still been able to get here.
I still think you're better off setting guys because if
you look across the board at NFL, n b A,
even Major League Baseball, health is the bigger determining factor
(46:32):
as to who wins and who loses. Now that you
could say to me, and you'd be right, Hey, the
Patriots one last year without Rob Gronkowski in the Super Oil.
They did, they did, that's fair, But they also had
Julian Edelman and they're not gonna have Edelman in the
super Bowl or in the playoffs, and so they if
you lose you and Edelman was their top wide receiver
last year, you'll lose it. If you were to lose
(46:53):
them both, that's where they would be sitting music. Am
I crazy in thinking that? Now? I guess what the
problem is. You want to protect those key marquee positions,
as you were saying, whether it's like your quarterback or
you're running back. But I feel what a lot of
teams are dealing with is the positions where players are
(47:16):
actually really banged up, is like their offensive lineman or
impact positions like that, and then when you try to
give those players rest, now you're making yourself vulnerable in
other positions. I sort of that's what I see as
the problem is. Yeah, you can give the quarterback. Uh,
you could sit your quarterback hoping that obviously you don't
want him to tear a knee or something like that,
(47:36):
But what about your left tackle or your right tackle
who's had a bad ankle all season. It's tough to say, hey,
we're gonna give you some time off, because then you
have to sit him and your quarterback and you're running back,
and you're basically then playing a preseason game. Yeah, I mean,
my my thing is like, look, I don't think it's
a hard and fast rule for everybody. I do think
there are positions to which you feel, you know, most
(47:58):
defensive position, as you're like, you'll be fine, right, Like
to be fine? You can play? I mean, can you
get hurt in a non contact deal? Like, yeah, linebackers
would be the one. If I have a line a
hard hitting linebacker, you know, if I have If I'm
Caroline and I have a Luke Keikley, Now the problem
is they can't like you know, he has shut down
(48:18):
a quickly because he's had concussion issues in the past,
and when they lose quickly, their defense falls apart. Like yeah,
So I'm not saying that you you physically can't sit
everybody down, but I'm saying that if you ever come
into the idea of should I or should I not?
You always do? You absolutely always do. I mean, I
especially agree with you for me when it comes to
(48:41):
the Patriots. I know what you were saying with the
whole like home field and because they're so tough to
play at home, especially in the playoffs. But I look
at that team and Tom Brady at his age, I
know he's sort of like defied time and gravity and
all conventional thought. But I mean, he just seems like
he's one hit away. I mean, and anyone really is
in football, but really, Brady, I mean, when you're that old,
(49:02):
there's just one big time hit and he could be
out with a rib injury or something like that. I
feel he's one of the exceptions where you just the
one thing. Brady gets rid of it. He gets rid
of it so quickly, and you can kind of, I know,
it can be just like one hit. Remember there seventeen
and three in home playoff games under Bill Belichick. Seventeen
(49:23):
and three. So now look they they've they've gone to
Pittsburgh twice in an FC championship games and won both
OH one and OH four, but seventeen three in home
playoff games three and four on the road. Not amazing.
They've only played seven road playoff games in the Brady
(49:43):
Bill Belichick era. Crazy. I got to imagine five of
those were probably against some sort of Peyton Manning team, right,
I mean, I can already think of like the most
recent one was when they had to play in Denver,
and I'm sure they had to play in Indiana. They
remember they lost in Denver, right exactly, Uh, Indianapolis. I
feel like they played most of them at home. They
(50:03):
played the Chargers at home. One year they've played the Ravens.
The Ravens beat them. Uh, the last team to beat them.
The loan loan loss in the f C Championship game
was to the Baltimore Ravens five and one. In home
a f C Championship games, the one loss was to
the Baltimore Ravens in two thousand twelve. So that's just
(50:25):
I've that has always been my philosophy is I am
a uh fresh legs, fresh minds, you know, bring out
the best in guys more so than the idea of
you know, do you want guys now? Look, you can
also let guys play in the first quarter, just especially
in offensive guys. Hey, look, we're gonna have you have
one drive or one quarter. Get sharp and after the
(50:48):
first really good drive, now we start taking guys out.
Now we start taking guys out. Your check engine line
comes on. Don't let your car suffer. Head to auto
zone today the auto zone fixed under can check it
on the spot for free. It could be something serious
or something simple like a loose gas cap, getting the
zone auto zone. I'm not really sure what the giants
(51:12):
are doing, Like I used to think there was a plan,
and now I think they're operating with the we have
no plan plan. I'll explain next. Car shopping can be
confusing with terms like dealer price, list price, an invoice price.

Olive Show, Fox Sports Radio, what's your feelings about snow? Ramos?
(51:54):
I like snow, but not enough to go to someplace
where there is a lot of snow. But I appreciate
it and respect it. What likely correct? We come to
work every day. We respect our opponent. We respect no question,
(52:15):
respect the weather. We respect snow, no questions. Certainly everybody
knows that, okay, okay, we respect snow. Snow is immense,
snow is dense, snow is fantastic. Okay, certainly by not like,
what what the hell was that answer? Is? Snow is white,
it's cold, white is cold. We give it the respect
it deserves. Snow is not your next opponent, dude, I
(52:39):
just asked you what your thoughts on Let me ask music, music,
any thing that snow. Man. I like snow every once
in a while. I'm not I don't think I could
ever live in the snow for an extended period of time.
That would be hard for me. It's kind of like
what I was saying with just a more elongated way.
But you respected I don't know that's what you said.
You said you respect me. You don't want to be
in it. You're like, I like that's basically like like
(53:00):
it in pictures. It's really cool with you in pictures.
But that's about it. But I like, first of all,
I like falling. Falling snow is the best snow. Right
when it's just falling, it's coming back coming down your inside,
and you're like, wow, this is amazing. And then when
(53:21):
you first go out there and sledding with your kid
is pretty amazing. Like there are some really cool things.
Snowball fights are a little bit overrated just because it
takes forever to pack all the snowball You're like, right,
and then and then you always get the like you're
a belly to from your wife when you're nailing your kids, like, dude,
they totally had it coming. Usually you gotta come out
of here and nail with a snowball. You will feel
(53:43):
so much better about your parenting. Um, I'll say this
about sleets or any sort of ice, which is the
it's the worst. There is one where I used to
live in the well actually where I live both times
in Connectic but I didn't do it the first time
because my kids were too little. But my house in
(54:03):
Connecticut that I just moved from the neighbor's house, the
ladies across the street. What up, Pat Lay, he's probably
driving around. Let's do us on serious sex. M Christine
Lahy on the herd H no relation. Um, when it
gets icy, we would I invented this. We'd get on
our our little sled things are like it's like a
saucer top whatever and slide down his driveway because it
(54:27):
was like downhill and curved and it gets it gets
kind of humming at the end and you're going down ice.
But ice is the worst. Um. I like snow. I snow.
I think snow is awesome. I don't there's a winter
storm on the way for parts of Vermont that's gonna
drop up to forty inches of snow. Like that's a
little bit excessive. Um, But the snow, it all depends
on where it falls and the amount it falls, amount
(54:48):
of time, and the type of snow that it falls in. Like,
not all snow is the same. And now, look like,
if you get two inches of snow in Atlanta, the
entire uh state shuts a state of Georgia shuts down.
If you get two the snow in Vermont, Like they
laugh at it, They're like, that's a dusting I like snow. Yeah,
but here's the thing. Yeah, do you respect it? I
(55:11):
do respect it. I respect the snow, respect the snow.
Uh Ramos's answer was one of the one of the
most interesting things ever. Here's the thing about snow or
appending storms. You've got to have a plan, right, Like,
you gotta have it in your mind, a plan. You
can't be like like, you gotta know wherever you go
(55:32):
it's gonna take longer. Um, you've gotta have a good
sense of what type of car you have, what type
of trip, what type of roads you're taking. Right, interstates
are the first things to be cleared off. UM. Public
transportation while it sounds like a good idea, like into
a city that the fact is that if the snow
is so immense, public transportation can shut down. And now
(55:52):
you're really screwed because at least when the snow is
bad and you think that whether the roads are uh,
you can't dry, Like if you've got a four wheel
drive vehicle, you can't. If you go slow enough, you
can ultimately get to where you want to get to
most cases, whereas if stuff shuts down it's a public
transport there you're just shut down. Um, a pickup truck
(56:13):
is the most overrated vehicle in the history of snow
right ramost like you don't know snow. So if I
said you had a four wheel four wheel drive truck,
that sounds like it would be pretty good for driving
over snow, right affirmative. Yes, yeah, that's the absolute wrong thing. No,
I'm serious, because they're they're so light, they're so light
in the back you have to put like bricks down
(56:35):
or sand down the back of it, otherwise you're too
light in the back. But you have to have a plan,
Like I'm not a planner guy, but plans are important,
and I have no idea what the giants plan is
because I think their plan a couple of weeks ago
was a decent plan. They're like, look, we suck. Our
(56:56):
wide receivers are hurt, our offensive line can't block. Our
quarterback is old. We're gonna get a good pick. Why
don't we see what we got in Davis Webb. Why
don't we kind of get him ready? And they might
have jumped the gun telling Eli man like, look, dude,
we love you, We're gonna play you, We're gonna start you,
but we might plug pull you at the end of games.
Of course, Eli, whatever he says publicly is bull What
(57:17):
he said, what he privately was he freaked out, and
everybody around him freaked out, and Jerry Rees lost his
job and McAdoo lost his job. And it's not the
only reason those guys lost their job, but that was
the tipping point, right, that was the what's the cliche,
the straw that broke the camel's back? Have you looked
at the Giants? Um? Have you looked at the Giants
(57:40):
depth chart here this week? Like the New York Giants
are still bad, they're still playing for a high draft pick,
and they're still starting Eli Manning and the starting streak
is over, and like, I guess there was supposed to
be some massive revolt. But you want to talk about
overreacting to social media. There's been a lot of overreactions
(58:01):
to social media. I want to get to some of
the Ravens have done too, which I think is just silly.
But like, what are the Giants doing with Davis Webb
still listed as a third string quarterback. They're playing on
the road against the Arizona Cardinals. They have lost four
consecutive games, and though they were competitive with the Philadelphi Eagles,
still lost at home to the Eagles, lost at home
(58:22):
to the Cowboys. Now they're going on a road to
take on, uh, take on the Cardinals, and Davis Webb
is inactive versus the Cardinals, He's not even active. What
are what are you doing? I mean, this is the
problem with firing your coaches. Now you have Steve Spagnolah
(58:45):
was like, look, I can't be thrown I'm trying to
win a game. Steve Spagnolah was a head coach for
like five minutes before remember with the with the Rams,
and I look, I'm trying to keep this job or
at least have a resume to get another head coach job.
The last thing I want is a rookie quarterback who
is third in the depth chart. But you want to
(59:06):
talk about a rudderless ship. The Giants were all management
ownership coaches, lockstep Hey, we need to get Davis Webb
ready to play, and he's inactive. I mean, this is
what a cluster, you know what? Because of the reports
earlier this week about he was getting first team reps.
(59:30):
Do you think that that just went so horribly wrong
and it was so apparent that he's just not even
close to ready that that's why he's inactive. Possibly and
maybe he's a gamer, maybe he's not, maybe, or maybe
he just sucks. It's it's possible he sucks. But you
know what, like now or never. Right now, it's literally
(59:51):
now or never. There is no loss at all in
throwing him out there in the second half against the
Arizona Cardinals. I mean, I do think that that's the
weirdest part about it is that he's not even an option.
I mean, they're not even think he's inactive right exactly,
And so even if you don't think he's any good,
(01:00:14):
then why did this whole like right like now, it's
like a chicken or the egg thing. Like, the problem
is anybody who thought he was any good, anybody who
has invested in him is now gone. Jerry Reach drafted him,
he's gone. Ben McAdoo drafted him, he's gone. So now
you have defensive coach going like yeah, I think he
sucks and new front office guys going like yeah, I
don't know, don't see it. I mean, this is why
(01:00:37):
you need somebody who drafted you to still be there,
otherwise you won't get that opportunity. But this is a
fascinating team without a plan, team without a plan. Um.
You know what. The biggest downer around the holiday? Um?
(01:00:58):
I I struggle with holidays small talk, which is weird. Now.
My wife she she doesn't like being around me around
holidays and holiday parties because everybody comes up and starts
talking Hoop with me, or they'll talk Cowherd with me,
or they'll talk about Rossillo with me. They'll talk about
all these these different people and because she's already heard
(01:01:23):
my opinion on these things and doesn't frankly value it
all that much in order the topics that she wants
to talk about, like, I'll lose my wife at parties
were like, She's like, I just can't be around you.
I don't care about talking about Arizona basketball. Sorry, um,
but sometimes I struggle with small talk, especially with people
who go back into what I called the vortex, like
this vortex of negativity in the in the past. And
(01:01:46):
I think everybody has so many people have somebody like
that in their life that they had a bad breakup,
or they had a bad job, or they lost money
on a house. Something went wrong, and they're trying to
figure out what went wrong. They still can't figure it out,
and they keep talking about it. You're like, dude, it
(01:02:08):
is over dude, it is over music. You know, a
guy like that or a girl like that, somebody who
where something just doesn't go right for them, and it
just keeps going back to like, well, you know then
once that relationship ended, then I just like lost my
(01:02:29):
job and then so that's why now like I can't
afford my car payments, Like really, that's that's how you
think it all unfolded, like that all happened just because look,
I think it's I think it's possible that there are
things that cause other things to go wrong. I just
at some point, like even if I have a level
of investing. There's two parts to it. One, when you're
starting a conversation, who I always I always think there
(01:02:53):
are reasons I haven't talked to this person before or
in a long time. If you're such great friends with somebody,
especially this communication era, if they're on Facebook and you're
on Facebook and you're not Facebook friends, you know, then
you really weren't friends, you really And if you don't,
if somebody had a dramatic life changing moment and you
didn't know it, it's possible you're a really bad friend
(01:03:17):
or you just have no level of investment in their life.
So sometimes you do need to be reset as to yeah,
what where where's Mary? Oh you didn't know? Yeah, Mary
and I broke up about seven months ago. Like that sucks.
And then they're going to tell you why. I'm like, yeah,
she slept with the postal worker. I'm like, okay, that's creepy. Wait,
the postal worker with the harry back that like you
(01:03:38):
used to billow out of his shirt. Yeah, that's bad.
But when they're gett in that and you know who's done.
Then the Ravens have done this. The Ravens have done this.
The Baltimore Ravens sent the letter UH this week to
season ticket holder, sweetholders, sponsors, and a number about the
number of no shows at M and T Bank Stadium
(01:03:59):
this season, citing a protest during the national anthem as
one of the potential reasons. The letter was signed by
team president Dick cass and the mention of empty seats
in the past when the Ravens have struggled on the field,
but this year is different, with Baltimore in the midst
of the playoff race quote, the number of no shows
are higher and it is noticeable. Cast wrote in a
(01:04:21):
six fifty six word letter. There are a number of
reasons for no shows, but surely the one time protest
in London has been a factor. The Ravens first team
protests occurred in London September when a dozen players nelt
during the national anthem um. It was in the wake
up President Trump's critical comments and tweets about the protests.
(01:04:41):
We have responded to our concerns about the protests by
redoubling our efforts to both the organization and players to
make Baltimore a better community. We want the Ravens to
continue to be strong, unifying force some source of pride.
When the Ravens win, we can bring families together and
the community together. We've done that before. Or I'm just like, look,
(01:05:06):
are people no showing because the protests? Maybe? Are they
may be protesting because your team is boring? Maybe are
they protesting because frankly it's better to watch your event
on TV so you can see other other games. Maybe,
but you know you shouldn't do. What are you doing
bringing it up? Why are you pointing it out like
that was September? Do you think anybody is like, dude,
(01:05:27):
that one time in September. Come on, come on, let's
bring in Steve to segrify out. What else is going
on the world sports? Well, Josh Allen is playing Wyoming
quarterback who's headed to the NFL Draft after this game.
He returns from a shoulder injury and he has thrown
two touchdown passes for Wyoming in the first quarter. Late
(01:05:48):
first quarter, fourteen nothing Cowboys over Central Michigan. They're getting
to spend their holiday in Boise, Idaho at thirty seven
degrees Bahamas. They used to be the humanitarian bull that's
what people through. Yeah used to orange bow. They suld
throw oranges on the field. They ever throw hip Manchians
on the field, I haven't even seen them throw potatoes
on the field here. This is, of course, now the
(01:06:10):
famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Bahamas Bowl took place gee
in the Bahamas earlier today. USA Today, by the way,
said it was, according to numerous accounts from fans on Reddit,
so easy to get in and go anywhere at that place,
holding a bowl game in another country. Bring your beer,
a bag of it. Do you have a ticket, doesn't matter,
(01:06:30):
Go ahead. There were almost no fans there anyway. People
were walking around the track out of their seats and
next to the field. Ohio, you for six the final
over U A B in the Bahamas today. Quarterback Baker
Mayfield of Oklahoma will go to the Senior Bowl Senior Bowl,
the All Star game on January first. You'll have the
Rose Bowl game January one for Oklahoma against Georgia. Falcon's
(01:06:52):
wide receiver Julio Jones with ankle and thumb injuries, will
play Sunday at New Orleans. Nine NBA games Tonight, the
late contest Golden State winners of ten straight, hosting the Lakers.
Draymond Green returns tonight after his shoulder injury. Andre Iguadala
is probable after having the flu. The Warriors are a
half game behind Houston for the top record in the league.
Houston twenty five and five now hosts the Clippers, and
(01:07:14):
Chris Paul, the ex Clipper, is out tonight with a
sore ductor muscle. He's averaging seventeen points nine assists. He
was heard in Wednesday's loss to the Lakers, though Houston's
first defeat with Chris Paul playing for them and Gary
Harris averaging sixteen points a game for the Nuggets, should
play despite his sore elbow. Tonight, Denver's at Portland, but
Portland guard Damian Lillard is out this week with a
(01:07:34):
strain hamstring. Back to you Alright. Three weeks ago I
saw him catch his first touchdown. Past two weeks ago,
I saw him seventy five yard uh a touchdown catch
against the Seahawks when he just burned kJ Right? What
hell is kJ right doing trying to cover him? U
Let's welcome in. Kielan Cole of the Jaguars. Uh A
nominee for the PEPSI NFL Rookie of the Week for
Week two. Thou for Week fifteen of two thousand seventeen.
(01:07:57):
Fans can vote for any of the five players, But
why do you vote for these other dudes? When Keeling
Cole went from being an undrafted free agent this year
out of Kentucky West Lane to being a star wide
receiver for one of the hottest teams in nash Football,
like he joined us on the Doug Gotlip Show, Calan,
how are you good? Good man? So what's this ride
been like? It take me back to draft day? You
(01:08:19):
go undrafted? What was the process like of of linking
up with the Jaguars? But you know, you you've got
a hope and pray that you get a team. Uh
And all our meeting was opportunity. I was gonna work
hard and keep doing what I was doing up to
that point. And just like I said, I hopefully a
chance and one day be on the team. And once
once I was on a team, I just knew I
(01:08:40):
had to pay my adama keep finding. Okay, so let's
let's start. When you knew you made the team, how
are you told? Uh? Well, I set out the last
preseason game, and uh well, I was sat out on
the last Continus game and all the events you know,
who's going on. You know, you kind of get scared
when the last because the game to do. Uh, some
(01:09:01):
vests telling me congratulations. I don't even want to believe it.
So I was reading to the final day second and
once I found out, I was excited pursue, but really, um,
I had to focus myself up so I can remain
humble and keep probably to get better in do whatever
I need to do. The hype of team. What happened
(01:09:21):
early early in the year. Obviously Blake struggle in the year,
but you struggle with some drops through in the season,
and and like look you're you'r m O. Obviously you're
a great deep threat, but you've got great hands. Man.
I remember the one hand and catch you made against
the Cincinnati Bengals where you're running to the left and
the ball is thrown like back shoulder on a what
looked like a deep post and you twisted your body
and cottage. The hands are not a problem. What was
(01:09:44):
going on early in the season when you had some drops, Well,
it's it's a faster game. You gotta get used to
me gotta you gotta teach to the quarterback and where
he likes to place balls and stuff like that, and
it was just a learning process for me. And I
was putting here, so I was studying the su quick.
Everything happened so fast. I just had to get it.
And I'm just glad it happened this year and that
(01:10:06):
got all the all the demons out the way and
auto drops out the way so that I can become
the player I'm trying to become. Okay, So what's what's
changed with Blake? Like, I mean, like, look, you can
people can tell us this is what Blake has been
all along. But we watched in the preseason he was struggling.
I mentioned that Bengals game. There was one one play
which people remember. It's like Internet fame, right, You're standing
(01:10:28):
wide open and Blake over throws you by by by
ten yards. And now we're watching him and he's dealing. Like,
what has changed? How has Blake Bortles evolved so quickly
during this during the season. I think it's just more repetition.
You know, this is this is a new team, a
new coach side that everything about the Jacks is pretty
much new. So I think it's just repetition, just trying
(01:10:50):
to get the groove of um, you know, the receivers
are running backs and the old line and just just
him being comfortable with with everything. But honestly, I feel
like it's always been hard working and trying to get better.
You know, nobody can really just come in and just
be greater what they do. They gotta profess it and
get better. So, uh, maybe he's just reaching this speech.
I don't know, Uh, partly because he got his breaking
(01:11:12):
my eyes. I've always felt like he's always been on points.
But but so there's there there was never any kind
of light switched moment where you felt like things changed. No,
I mean, like I said, it's always just being just
trying to get better repetition. Uh, he's always thrown some
some great balls and no quarterbacks as every the best
quarterback on everybody makes mistakes, and so I think it's
(01:11:34):
just everybody was picking out the mistakes and not the
good things. Uh. I've always thought Break was it was
a good quarterback. Um, obviously, Allen Robinson goes down for
the season you guys have had. You know, Hern's has
gone down with with with the ankle. I know Marquis
Lee is gempy right now, and this has provided like
great opportunity for you is there any part of you
(01:11:54):
that guys go down, You're like more targets, more targets
coming my way. No, I just just I'll think of
it as stepping up in cover of him that she
you know, uh, there's gonna be around. So he's gotta
learn quickly in in uh the fourth four year that
they are mentally, you know, you gotta you gotta try
(01:12:15):
to catch up with their mindset and with their games.
So that way to step in and replace them until
they get back, you know. Uh, That's that's the part
of the game. When somebody goes in, you gotta come
in and step in and grow up. Keithan Cole joining
us in the Doug Gotlip Show. Uh sixty one catches
in his rookie season. Remember he said he's an undrafted
(01:12:36):
free agent out of Kentucky Wesley. When you caught that
touchdown pass first of your career against the Indianapolis Colts,
what did you do with football? Uh? It's in my
cause it right now, I'm trying to fix out what
to do with it. I'm trying to maybe get to
bedazzle or something, uh, something nice. I'll probably fishing them
out a case or something they bedazzled. Seriously, you know
(01:12:58):
you know what I mean When I said that I did.
I knew exactly what you meant. I just didn't know
if that's what you like the new thing to do it.
I never really had a first uh down ball to half,
So I guess I'll ask at a glass case. Yeah,
put in a case like right, like, I'm sure at
(01:13:19):
some point now you're probably like again like I don't
want to get I don't want I want your addressed.
But you're probably renting, right, Like when you're undratted bridge,
you make things like I'm just right, but I'm sure
you've got a nice TV on the wall, like put
it right below the TV, or when you buy your
habit for when you buy your first nice house, right,
you have it right there on the mantel. So no
matter what you do the rest of your life. Huh,
(01:13:41):
I'll do that just for you. I appreciate that. Um uh.
Take me into the locker room when you guys, when
you guys just mauled Seattle, and of course they want
to fight at the end of the game. Um Like,
I've always taken it, as you know, when the old
champion in now wants to fight it means they can't
(01:14:02):
actually beat you anymore. Um, we talked with some of
your teammates about it. What was actually discussed after that
thing kind of got ugly at the end of the game. Well,
I mean, we just have to keep our cool, you know. Uh,
you never like the do you think of going on?
And we are just uh play football and have sportsmanship
(01:14:22):
to the Cockley zero zero and then if there's a problem,
there's a problem. But everything was cool after the game. Um,
we just walked at um uh to the locker room
and just do it. Canton Cole joining us on the
Doug got Leaves Show. All right, So look, you you're
you're starting for a playoff bound Jacksonville Jaguar team. Like,
(01:14:42):
I can't think of anything you want for Christmas other
than maybe a contract extension. What's on the wish list
this year? Super Bowl? Good? That's not that's not bad.
Although I don't think Santa can actually bring that down
the chimney. That's very It's very hard, very hard to do. Um,
I'm pretty heavy, but I think you can get it down. Okay, Hey, listen,
(01:15:05):
congrats on the season. It's been an amazing ride. I'm
sure hopefully it doesn't throw you off anytime in the
very near future. Keep it up and we'll talk to
you soon. All right, it's Keelan Cole who's up for
the PEPSI NFL Rookie of the Week. You can go online.
You can go online and it'll be announced Friday on
NFL Total Access in the NFL network on NFL dot Com.
(01:15:27):
Just go to NFL dot com slash Rookies through Friday
three pm Eastern Time. Like in fairness to him, in fairness,
it's a difficult question about Blake Bortles. He's like, look,
I've always thought he was great. Like, you don't really
have any experience with other NFL quarterbacks, right him or
Chad Henny. But still pretty amazing, pretty amazing stuff. Undrafted
(01:15:51):
Kentucky West Lean all of a sudden balling in the
NFL and wants the Super Bowl for Christmas. I don't
think that's that's not something you can unwrap on Christmas Day.
How will Isaiah Thomas fit in when he joins the Cavaliers.
Chris Bruce Hard thinks he may be the third option.
Could be my thoughts. Next. Car shopping can be confusing
with terms like dealer price, list price, an invoice price.
(01:16:14):
True Car shows what other people paid for the car
you want. You can recognize a good price when you're
ready to buy a new or used car. Visit True
Car and enjoy more confident car buying experience. Wishing you
and yours is the merriest of Christmas, Doug Gottlip Show,
Fox Sports Radio. And look to any of my Jewish
(01:16:38):
friends out there, like you wish people merry Chris are like, yeah, yes,
I do. Well, what if somebody wishes you a merry
christmasings thank you. We don't need to get us a
theological discussion. It's like somebody's saying, like, hey, I hope
you have a great day, Like whoa, whoa, why are
(01:16:59):
you saying that? You're saying that yesterday was a bad day. Like, dude,
somebody wishes you a merry Christmas, just go thank you.
Don't go them Jewish man or I don't celebrate holidays
or I don't believe it, like I don't care. I'm
just saying, hey, man, have a great day. Enjoy the
fact that most of you will be off. We have
college football, college basketball, NFL football, at NBA basketball, and
(01:17:22):
you got nothing to do. These these. I don't know,
if you got it, you can wish you a merry Christmas,
like what, oh you know his wife. His wife's Southern Baptist.
So that's why it's okay. No, it's just okay to
be a human being. Let's play what do the fox say?
No say? All right, So there's a lot of discussion
(01:17:45):
about Isaiah Thomas coming back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Chris
Brussard uh co hosted Undisputed earlier today on FS one,
which you can hear on serious XM channel three. Here
is what Chris said about Isaiah Thomas is likely role.
Here's the biggest thing to me with bringing Isaiah back.
Kevin Love is playing the best basketball of his career. Now.
(01:18:08):
Some of that that they moved him the center, and
I think that's gonna help him against Golden State, that
he's a center, he'll go outside and shoot threes and
all that. But he also knows mentally, I'm the second
option and he's the definitive second option for the first
time since he's been in Cleveland. Remember well, I think
(01:18:28):
he that's gonna They're gonna have to work that out
because and it has to be organic. I don't think
you need to say you're the second option, you're the
third option or whatever. But it's tough being that third
option with Lebron. Remember Chris Bosh in Miami. He basically
became a glorified role player last year or the previous
three years when Kyrie was the second guy. Love was
(01:18:50):
never the same you know, wasn't the same player. So
I think Love is the better second option. I think
Isaiah can get his without being a quote unquote option.
I actually think it's the obvious way around. Like, look,
Isaiah Thomas, the question isn't I hate the first option,
second option, third option? Do you have to have the
(01:19:12):
ball in your hands to create shots for yourself or
can others create shots for you? And the answer to
Kevin Love is others can create create shots for him.
The reason he works at the five or at the
center as he's guarded by centers and many of them
try and protect the rim and help off him. And
he's become a very a depth three point jump shooter.
But you don't give the ball to Kevin Love and
(01:19:33):
go all right, big boy, go get us thirty. You
do that with Isaiah Thomas, And so I understand that
it may end up where Kevin Love gets as many
or more shots than Isaiah Thomas, but you don't run
the offense through him. He becomes an ancillary part. Even
if he scores a bunch of points. You use him
(01:19:53):
as a screen roll guys, a screen pop guy, or
as the spread guy away from the floor. You don't
give him the ball. As he showed live Steary Win
guarded by Steph Curry. He no longer has a great
ability to score in the low post against smaller players
and against bigger players. He's never been a great low
post scorer. So with that in mind, I don't think
this is really like is a discussion that they have
(01:20:15):
to work out roles? Yeah, but and and does Isaiah
Thomas work with what they're doing? I don't know. And
all of a sudden, now they're minutes for point guards.
They start getting divvied up their guards, and he he
struggles to guard people as well. Like those become issues,
but he's not gonna it's not gonna change. Kevin loves touches.
(01:20:35):
Kevin loves touches are always coming off of somebody else, uh,
creating help, demanding help, and then he gets a shot
that's what the Fox said. All right, So we're watching
UM watching Wyoming taking on Central Michigan, and it's gonna
make a point that that I have long made about
(01:20:57):
bowl games. It's the one I've long made about college
basketball in the n c A Tournament. We'll get to that,
We'll get to why Josh Allen playing, Baker Mayfield playing
Josh Rosen playing are all very smart ideas, very smart ideas.
To those of you who listen to us on Serious
XM channel eighty three, and you only get the first
(01:21:18):
two hours the show, first of all, you can feel
free to call Serious x and go, hey, why can't
we get our three? Can we get our three? That
can be arranged, But download the Doug Gotlap Show podcast.
I'll be on the Herd next week. We'll still be
spiring out pods and great interviews from the year. But
we appreciate your listening. It's been so great to be
back on satellite radio after five years in the abyss
(01:21:42):
of not being on satellite radio. So tell your friends
channel eight three every East coast afternoon at three o'clock
to five o'clock, every West coast midday from twelve to
two and of course, you can always download the Doug
Gotlap Show podcast on iTunes, on Fox Sports Radio dot Com,
or wherever uh you download your podcast. But coming up next,
(01:22:03):
for those of you listening, you can listen to us
on the I Heart Radio app. To play or not
to play. It's getting discussed in college football. More guys
are not playing and why more guys are making a mistake?
What up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Look, you
(01:22:27):
don't have to like these Bowl games. You can clown
these Bowl games. You can make fun of the fact that, um,
I don't know what Central Michigan and Wyoming are thinking. Like. Look,
this is the only time all year in which you're
the only game on right, the only really only game
in town, and we're all kind of sitting around watching
people are off work, and people are at work watching
(01:22:47):
games or whatever. A lot of people gamble on Bowl games.
I would not wear if I was Central Michigan, I
would not wear those hideous yellow jerseys in this particular moment,
right And if you're Wyoming, you're already stuck with the
fact that you're team's colors are brown. But if you're
ever gonna sexy up, sexy up the brown uniforms. I
think this is the time, right, Like this is literally
(01:23:09):
the only thing you got blue turf. You got one
team wearing yellow jerseys with red helmets, the other team
wearing brown uniforms with yellow helmets, and you could say
what you want about and like the kids are gonna
go where they can play, but if it's closed, you're like,
do you want to go play at Central Michigan? Like ugly?
(01:23:33):
Oh my gosh, I don't know. It's a tough sale,
Like I could never do a hundred green team, like
like Baylor and Organ changing their colors and sexing them
up is really important because whenever I remember like old
school like Hunter, green and yellow schools, both of them
are tough. Tough, tough sale for me, tough sale for
(01:23:53):
me personally. I'm watching the Idaho Famous Potatoes Bowl. Most
important question before we get to Josh al On the
quarterback from Wyoming and why what he's doing is smart
and what he's doing proves kind of the point I've
always made. It's a fair kind of potato. I've told
you before, Ramos, I've told you before music. I like
(01:24:16):
to grocery shop, so I know about different kinds of potatoes.
What's your favorite kind of potato? Only one right answer here, Doug,
that'd be a French fry. That's the favorite. That's your favorite.
That's your favorite style of potato. My next question, no,
I would go sweet potato. I'm a big fan of
the sweet, sweet potato. Sweet potato. You do kind of
(01:24:37):
look like a sweet potato guy. Now, sweet potatoes, those
sweet are actually better for the glycemic index right there,
Actually better if you're a card counting, which is a weird.
That's a really hard thing. It's that sweet potatoes being
better for you than regular potatoes is a lot like
what I don't understand about golf. Normally, you swing harder,
(01:24:58):
the ball should go further. That's not the way it
necessarily works with golf. But sweet potatoes, Okay, we'll get
to how you like them prepared in a moment. What
about you, Ramo's favorite style of your favorite kind of potato?
I like the what are they like? The little small
the red potatoes. They're very kind of like the red
(01:25:19):
ones you like. I like the little ones that are
like purple. They have different colors of them, but the
like little purple ones. You can seem like like breakfast
is or sometimes they get served with like, um, the
vegetables you eat when you're having a steak or something
like that. I like these. Okay, So do you like
you like the red ones, you don't like the purple ones?
I like them all, but I prefer the red ones more.
How's that? Okay, prefer the red ones? Can can anybody?
(01:25:41):
Obviously you can taste the difference in uh, in sweet
potatoes as opposed to regular pre potatoes. But can you
taste the difference in the the red ones as opposed
to the brusset potatoes? Um? Probably not. I mean they
tend to be a little bit harder, aren't they when
you eat them. They're not as soft as let's say, uh,
(01:26:03):
you know, a baked potato or something like that. But
I don't really taste the difference. I just like them
because they're small and the crunchy to me. Uh. There's
there's there's Curse Pink, There's the Laura's potato, the King
Edwards potato, which is like the white kind of classic
white potato. Um, there's the obviously the russet. The rusted
(01:26:25):
is probably the most famous of the potatoes. Right. Um,
I'm I'm a big purple potato guy, big big. I
don't know what it is about purple potatoes. I think
somewhere somebody told me that they were uh, that they
were better for you. And of course if somebody tells
me they're better. But there's russet, there's red, there's white,
there's yellow, and there's purple, and then there's fingerling. But
(01:26:48):
I'm a big purple potato guy. Doug, do you respect
all other potatoes? I do? I do? Now, how do
you like to prepare French fries? Is obviously the very
easy answer. Um, what about you? Rams? Is there a
different style prepper prepperedness that you've preparation that you you prefer? Um,
not a big mashed potato fan. No, what hold on,
(01:27:11):
that's upside of the century, right there. Hold on? But John,
do you respect I do respect rashed potatoes, yes, but
I've never been a big mashed potato fan. And it
just kind of sitting in your stomach for me, kind
of too too clunky. But well, how do you make it?
I mean, do they lighten fluffy or they thick and chunky?
How do you prefer your mash? I would say more
light and fluffy. How's that? Yeah, I mean I don't
(01:27:34):
dislike it. I just that's not my prefer I don't
prefer I would have a baked potato with you know,
the sour cream, the chives, bacon bits, things like that. Right,
as much non potato in your potato as possible. I'll
take the potato without the potato. But you have you
ever had a double baked potato? Nor does it sounds good?
(01:27:55):
Here's they do with a double baked potato. Okay, you
bake a potato, you take out the innerts, you make it,
You mash that potato, You mash the inside stuff sometimes
put some cheese, a little bacon in there. You put
it back in, and then you cook it even some more.
And so the outside and then some of the inside
is of baked potato variety and some some parts of
(01:28:17):
it of a mashed potato mixed with baked potato variety. Interesting. Yeah,
that's the double baked potato. That is that something you
could ask for at a restaurant or will they not
know what you're talking about? Okay? No, though, I mean
you can go a place that they have potatoes and
you go you have double baked potatoes. They say, yeah,
you'd be like, that's that's good eating. Um, it's it's
it's good stuff. Look, I have a daughter who can
(01:28:37):
eat like a whole bowl of mashed potatoes. Um. I
like everybody who doesn't like French fries. Like French fries
like pizza. Like you can say you don't want to
eat it because it's not healthy for you, but please
stop with the I don't like French fries right. Um.
To me, the best kind of potato you cut them
thin like I like what you call him. I we
call him like home fries. You know when you throw
some oneion in there and then you put a little
(01:28:59):
all of all down in the in the pan really,
or you could also do it in the oven, and
you cut thin slices at your potatoes and you just
kind of let them bake and you flip them over
and they get super super crispy, like those are just
through a bunch of of sea salt on them, and
you just go to town. They're incredible. I'm sure they're
bad for you. But there I'm saying this because I'm
watching the Idaho Famous Potatoes Bowl, and I the one
(01:29:23):
thing I don't think that a lot of these things
that makes me run out the cheer Bundy, Like, I
know they got one of the guys who started cheer Bundy,
and so they had the Cheera Bundy Bowl, right, that
was the Bahamas Cheera Bundy Bowl, I think, or one
of the bowls. The cheer Bundy cher Bunny is like
a cherry drink. It's really good. Um. So I don't
know if there's a I'm sure I don't people have
a run on cheer Bundy like chaer Bundy that sounds delicious, Han,
(01:29:46):
will you pick us up some cheer Bundy? And I
don't know if they sell even one more potato if
you could tracked, if you could track people buy more
potatoes because they turned like Idaho Potato bowl, Han, can
we have some potatoes for But there is something powerful
to bowl games. And so I'm watching Josh Allen, who
to start the year, he was mentioned as one of
(01:30:09):
the top three quarterback prospects in the country. And Josh
Allen's playing well and Josh Allen on a skinny post
had a wow throw and now all of a sudden
people are like, well, maybe we should draft Josh Allen
because Josh Allen has as a kid. He's got three
touchdown passes, no interceptions. I saw a cornerback from Louisville
(01:30:31):
isn't gonna play in their bowl in the tax Slayer Bowl,
And we look at at Josh Allen and of course, um,
he missed two games because of injury, the last two
games which they lost this season to Fresno State, to
San Jose State playing in this game, and I like,
I don't know why more people don't get it about
(01:30:54):
college sports. College sports exist basically for three reasons. One,
it creates opportunities for guys to keep playing in college
while getting a degree to It allows alums allums to
have some sort of pride and come back like, oh
there are football team, like they represent all of us.
(01:31:16):
And Three, as a promotional tool for the university and
for the players in that university. It's kind of simple,
kind of simple, and that's all this is. So you
can sit out of a bowl game, but you're basically
sitting out of a two hour promo for what you
can do. That's that's all bowl games are. That's all
(01:31:39):
the n c A Tournament is. Like when I do
the n A term for CBS is like, look tell
as many stories talk about as much of the about
these kids stories and backgrounds as you possibly can, like
got it check. Frankly, we do it when you're doing
a regular game. Tonight, I'm doing Facebook game, like I'm
do the same thing, like where the promotional tour for
universities and for the players. That's all we're doing. And
(01:32:00):
if you don't get that, like you're completely obtuse to
what college athletics is and all these guys, there's over
ten players sitting out Bowl games, like you can sit out,
it's fine, but you're missing a golden opportunity to put
something on tape and to play with no one else
is playing, and play when more people are watching your
team than whenever be what then watching the workout. And
if you don't think that's powerful, fine, but take a
(01:32:21):
look at Twitter, Google search Josh Allen up. People like dude,
maybe we should go get him six ft five two
three pounds looks the part feels the part, uh Matt
says regarding potatoes here the double cooked potatoes referred to
(01:32:43):
as twice baked potos. I said that I believe, didn't
I know what I said? Like a twice baked potatoes.
We like, look, I kind of think that um Baker
Mayfield gets it. He's playing in the now. The the
Senior Bowls even is different because you you practice U
and play for NFL coaches and a lot of times
those guys end up wanting to draft the quarterback anyway,
(01:33:05):
or those guys have But it's all kind of the same.
The more we see you, when we get to know you,
like what are you hiding from? Either you can play
or you can't play. And I know that the Jailen
was the Jalen Smith, is that the kid from the
Dallas Cowboys. The jail and Smith injury is awful, awful,
and there's always going to be an injury to We're like, man,
that sucks, but like one as debilitating as that injury
(01:33:32):
one and one in ten thousand injury is he did
start and play this year in the NFL, so um
and and two. So like there's there aren't really many,
if any, career ending injuries anymore. And I'd also think
(01:33:52):
it's position dependent. I just do remember Jalen Smith got
rolled up on on what I think was a dirty hit.
If your check engine light comes on, don't let your
car suffer. Head to auto zone today the auto zone
fixed finder tool. You can check it on the spot
for free. It could be something serious or something as
simple as a loose gas cap getting the zone auto zone.
(01:34:13):
So many potatoes, styles of potatoes all grotten, You guys,
do not discuss um obviously baked potatoes. There's a potato salad.
There's potato sat with mayo, potato said with mustard, that's
the German. And what's the other kind of potato salad?
(01:34:33):
There's There's lots of different ways to have potatoes. But
the the potato bowl makes me think of potatoes and
makes me understood, allows people to understand why it's absolutely
smart business to play in these Bowl games. We'll take
it to Dallas upcoming next, where playoff hopes are dimly
alive and Ezeki Elliott is back. But will he be
(01:34:55):
the real Zeke Elliott or will he be rusty? We'll
discuss next in the Doug Oatlup Show. Carsha think can
be confusing with terms like dealer price, list price, an
invoice price. True car shows what other people paid for
the car you want. You can recognize a good price
when you're ready to buy a new or used car.
Visit true car and enjoy more confident car buying experience. Ramos,
(01:35:18):
who is this Kobe Kelai? Yeah, Kobe kel A, Okay,
do you like? I like Kobe Kla Kobe Kela. I
don't necessarily love this version of Santa Claus is coming
to town? Yeah? So, um, trying to think, what's what's
(01:35:41):
the iconic version of Santa Claus is coming to town? Hm,
it's it's It's a decent question, isn't it. Yeah, trying
to think who sings? Who sings the best? I'm sure
Mariah sang it right on her Christmas album. Michael Bubley
also like who Who's who's sanging it better? We can
do like the US magazine who Wore it Better? In
(01:36:02):
the meantime, let's get back to talking football here in
the Doug Gottlieb Show, I got a guy who can
help us with the Cowboys. Hey, we don't know everything,
but we know people that know what you want to know.
You know, sounds like you meet a guy. I got
a guy. John Maschoda covers the Cowboys the Dallas Morning News.
(01:36:25):
Check out his podcast Candidly Cowboys. Uh, Candidly John. We've
seen Ezeki Elliott In terms of physically look thinner. Uh.
He apparently has a documentary coming out, and he didn't
want to talk about what he did in Cabo. Candidly,
what are the Cowboys saying about how he looks on
a practice field? Everything we've seen, everything we've heard that
(01:36:48):
this is as good as a Zelot's ever looked. So
they're they're obviously not trying to eat him back into anything.
They need to win out. So the last four games
before he started serving the suspension, he was getting thirty
touches a game, and I expect to see the same
thing on Sunday again Seattle. I expect them to five
carries and get the ball throwing him two three more
times and there's no saving him. Uh. They need they
(01:37:10):
need everything, every last sound thing can get out of him,
and I expect to see him, uh play pretty well,
all right, So uh he comes back. I mean, obviously
it changed the dynamic of it, but it's still there's
still a lot of things that have to go in
their favorite in order for the Cowboys to make the playoffs, Right,
they don't control their own destiny. They can win out
and still not get in. What has to happen for
(01:37:32):
them to get in. Well, they need to win out
and then they need they need the Detroit Lions to
lose at least one of their two games, which is
gonna be tough because the Lions have since EE and
then they have Green Bay at home, so that's not
not exactly likely, but they need it. They need the
Lines at least lose one, and they need somebody out
of the Saints, Panthers, and Falcons. One of those three
teams needs to lose both of their last two games,
(01:37:54):
which the most likely out of those scenarios is probably
Atlantic because they still got to play New Orleans and Arolina.
So and then the other two teams both have games
against Campa, which you think that they'd win. So yeah,
it's certainly not any guarantee or any I mean, it's
probably less than it is less than a chance that
they would even get in. But yeah, they have to
win out and that's not gonna be easy. But they
(01:38:15):
need a lot of help as well. They do what
what are the returns on their quarterback? You know? I mean,
like look if you came into the year and you
said you got you got Dak Prescott. In year two
back with Zeki Elliott, there were the thoughts that somebody,
for some that he would prove to be a superstar
at all pro caliber quarterback. I thought, hold on now,
(01:38:36):
more pressure, tougher schedule, and more expectations. I don't think
any of us knew that that that Dez would look
uh like he had lost the step. I think the
assumption was at some point Jason wenton, would look like
he lost the step. But both have happened. The offensive
line hasn't been as dominant, has had some shuffling with it,
and the Zeke whether returns on Dak Prescott with two
(01:38:56):
games remaining. It really is he's just a different player
when he has Ezekiel Elliot and then when he doesn't.
Um he's just not a guy at this stage in
his career where you know you're just gonna allow him
to kind of carry the offense. He's just that's just
another type of player that Dak Prescott is. And you know,
if the Cowboys fall short of making these playoffs, everyone's
gonna point to that Ezekiel ell At miss six games
(01:39:18):
and was suspended and they're gonna forget about everything else.
But you bring up a good point with the with
the Dez deck relationship on the field that they just haven't.
They haven't hit at all. And they've been saying since
week two, week three that oh, it's gonna hit, it's
gonna hit, it's gonna catch on, and it just hasn't.
And that to me, right but below Zeke is the
next biggest thing of why this offense hasn't taken off.
And I you know, it's really hard to put your
(01:39:39):
finger on it, but they just don't have the same
report that you saw between Dez and Tony Romo. So
I think you will see a better deck Prescott these
last two games because when everything starts with a running
games Ezekiel Elliott and then Dak falls into place there,
that's when he's at his best. But when he just
has to win the game on his own, he's just
not that stage at as a quarterback in this league
to just win games on his own. Okay, here here's
(01:40:00):
the big question. If the Cowboys could magically go back
to last year when Tony was healthy, would they would
they install him as the starter. I don't think that
they would. I really was surprised last year when they
when they didn't put him back in towards the end
of the season. That that. So with that line of thinking,
(01:40:21):
I don't believe that they would. I think a lot
of other teams would have would do that. But I
don't think the Cowboys were all in on Dak Prescott
when they when they started rolling, uh, when Tony was out,
they were all in with with Dak and what he brought,
not just on the field but behind the scenes, the
leadership kind of the way everybody followed him. I don't
think that they would go back they They've they've pitched
their wagons to him, and I don't see them them
(01:40:43):
turning another direction. Plus, even if they did hit Romo,
they don't see him as being their future. The Dallas
Cowboys seen Dak Prescott as being their future. All right.
So let's say they don't make the play because you
make the playoffs, and everybody starts convincing themselves that, well,
we had injuries, well we had dysfunction, well we had
the suspension, will be better next year. But if they don't, somebody,
some change has to be made. One of the most
(01:41:03):
likely changes we'll see in the upcoming off season. I
really that's funny is that that I don't like. But
when they were lost their first three games without Zeke
and they were getting blown out. I thought there was
a decent chance that Jerry would go on in their
direction in terms of head coach at the end of
the year. I don't see that happening at all. Uh.
And and with that, I don't see Scott Linehan, the
(01:41:23):
offensive coordinator, going anywhere, and Rod Marinelli, the defensive coordinator.
He would be if you had to pick out of
those two, he'd probably be the most likeliest out of
those two if they were going to go in another direction.
But I don't see that happen either, because they're finally
starting to get the defensive line play to where they
thought it would be when they first when he when
they hired him. So I don't see any significant changes
on their coaching staff at all. Uh. Jerry Jones is
(01:41:46):
a huge fan of Jason Garrett, probably a bigger fan
uh than most And UH, it's gonna be interesting to see.
And I really do think that they're what they're gonna
do is they're gonna say that it was because they
didn't have Zeke for six games and if they can
just have this all back together next year, they can
make us super Bowl run. And I don't see any
any big time changes at all coming from the Dale.
Cowboy Johns showed up from the Dallas Morning News and
(01:42:07):
of course his podcast is a good one. Candidly cowboys
fall him on Twitter, John Machoda spelled m A c
h O t A. John is not with an with
an h j O n j O n m A
c h O t A or falling Dallas Morning News John,
great stuff, Thanks for the insight. Appreciate you joining us,
thanks for having all right, that's we got you. A
(01:42:30):
guy in Central Michigan sucks like like I don't know
what their quarterback is doing, but he's like left handed,
rolling to his right, throwing side arm and throwing another interception. Like, man,
they're not they are. I've I've I have determined in
my thirty seconds of watching them play football they are
(01:42:51):
not good at football. That's it. That's my knee jerk.
They're down twenty seven to seven to uh to Wyoming.
All the US people out there saying Central Michigan's the
next Alabama. I don't know what they're thinking, Doug. The
guy's name is Shane Morris is their quarterback. He's a
senior from from Michigan six three to five. He's a
(01:43:13):
left handed quarterback. Um, how come quarterbacks always have quarterback hair?
A lot of quarterback hair or a quarterback name? He's
got both? Is he like long hair? He left handed
and his name is Shane right, Like there's a guy
who's destined to be a quarterback. I like. Go around
the NFL, and most of them good. I would, Yes,
(01:43:37):
Tom Brady did, but Tom Brady used to have quarterback here.
He still has great hair now, but he used to
have the long quarterback here. A lot of these college quarterbacks,
high school quarterbacks, they all have the long hair, and
then they have a name that goes with it. Let's
getting Steve to Segre find out what else is going
on in sports? But he got Steve. So you're saying
that Central Michigan is as good as its uniforms. I'm
not the only one who thinks those uniforms rugly right,
(01:43:59):
it's a specially bad contrasted with the brown and yellow
on the blue turf today. The only thing I like
about about like, the only thing I like about Wyoming
wearing brown jerseys is like they're the only team that
wears brown jerseys, right, And it's a potato Bowl that
kind of look like potatoes. But other than that, But yes,
(01:44:20):
the juxtaposition of the two colors and the yeah and
the blue turf is a non Central Michigan team started
three and four this year. But but you get a
bowl game, and you get a bowl game and so forth.
We hadn't in a bowl game. Play better. We had
the Bahamas Bowl earlier Ohio forty one to six over
U A B. We got college basketball today. We had
(01:44:40):
a couple of matinees that have finished in college hoops.
Number three Arizona State is still undefeated after ripping Pacific
one oh four sixty five as you will open conference
play at Arizona a week from tomorrow. Arizona State's already
beaten Kansas and Xavier, among others. Number twenty one Texas
Tech defeated Abilene Christians seventy seven. Texas Tech host Baylor
(01:45:02):
next Friday to start conference play. Nine NBA games Tonight,
Lakers at Golden State the late matchup. Warriors have won
ten in a row. They're a half game behind Houston
for the top record in the league. As far as
Golden State, Draymond Green returns from his shoulder injury tonight,
but for Houston. Chris Paul, the ex Clipper, is out
tonight against the Clippers eight pm Eastern Time. Saw a
(01:45:23):
doctor muscle the problem he was heard in Wednesday's loss
to the Lakers, Houston's first defeat with Chris Paul playing
for them. Denver at Portland. Damian Lillard still out for
Portland with his strain hamstring. Four NHL games tonight. Baker Mayfield,
Oklahoma quarterback, will go to the Senior Bowl. Falcons wipe
out Julio Jones with ankle and thumb injuries, will play
Sunday at New Orleans, and Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper
(01:45:46):
with a bad ankle, returned to practice Oakland's at Philadelphia
on Monday night. I guess see Big Clin's had a
tough day here today. Yeah, I see the arrows pointing down.
Yeah it was. It was over nineteen thousand, eight hundred
on Sunday, trading nearly at fifteen thousand, five hundred on Thursday.
(01:46:07):
If it was legitimate. They were saying, they were wondering
price so high? Is this still a legitimate thing? Yeah?
It dropped below as low as ten thousand, four hundred.
Like I like, I don't know if anybody who knows
what it is. It's like digital currency. It's literally a
creation of nothing. Like you've heard a show about nothing.
This is a currency about nothing. It's the most amazing
(01:46:30):
thing ever. So so you're saying, it's like when baseball
card prices were really up high twenty years ago and
they were being traded on the value that wasn't real
and doesn't exist anymore. Jonathan Day points out, Yeah, that's
(01:46:50):
that's the baseball cards. At least there was that there
was some sort of that there was something substantive, like
you could look at the card and somebody had done
something and you can see if the card is But
this this is like, this is like when um, you know,
it's like a little bit more like, um, what's that
called storage wars? Oh yeah right TV storage wars. When
(01:47:12):
they're like they start going through what they bought, they're like, oh, yeah,
that's five hundred, that's six hundred, that's and they're like,
oh that that storage unit was worth twelve dollars. You're like,
I want to see you actually sell it and get
that money for it. Show show me the money you
can get for it. Jonathan Day tweets the show and
he says, Ramos, he sent me a video of it,
and so did Eric Stock. So Bruce Springsteen Santa Claus
(01:47:35):
has come in town is the best. Okay, we've played
that already. Remember we talked about Bruce Free I'm working
so hard what I'm singing this song? Uh? Are we
(01:47:56):
doing college picks or just doing pro pics? Like I
was preparing to do college picks for bowl games? But
I think you're only preparing to do pro pics. Do
I think that that's a poor assumption on your part
since the segments called five five, I understand, but we
didn't really in our in our short pre show meeting
where we both said, man, there's not a lot going on,
(01:48:17):
and you said you have your picks? I said yes.
I either failed to mention or you failed to ask
like I thought you said, are you okay? Spider right?
Like you forgot to ask me about picks. So what
do you think are we doing? We're doing college and
then what where can my college picks go up until?
(01:48:38):
Because there are not five football games before Monday? But
I'm not back on Monday. This is my last show
of the regular season of of the of the new
of this year on this show because I'll be hosting
Colin Cowherd Show all next week. Man, well, I would
say that, uh, it's only three games this weekend in
(01:48:58):
college football? Do you not only to pay the college
football games? I think we should just go NFL. Let's
do it. Well, we gotta five NFL five college it's
five for five, which Doug Goblin, Let's go five? All right?
(01:49:20):
First one, I'm gonna just keep I'm just gonna keep
riding this, riding this until uh, I mean it's bucked
me off several times. I'm just keep getting back on
this horse. I feel like the Browns gotta win a game. Um.
The question I did ask you, Ryan Music, is how
much I would have to pay you to attend the
Browns Bears game. It's it's supposed to be sleeping in
(01:49:41):
twenty seven degrees in Chicago during during the game. I
think there's gonna be there's gotta be a comma in there,
gotta be a comma. I think thousand dollars, A thousand
dollars would you go to the game? Yeah, you pay
for the tickets, you pay for everything that I want
to have there. And then once you're not sitting inside,
You're not sitting in a box, You're sitting outside. You
have to stay the entire game. Yeah, it would be
(01:50:04):
minimum thousand dollars. After I go to the game and
you've already paid for all the beer and food that
I want there, you have to be drunk there. I
have to I have to have a thousand dollars in
my pocket after it's all said and dog, all right,
I'm taking the Browns. I'm taking the Browns. Give me
the Browns. They're getting six stamp points to playing at
the Bears. I'm taking. I don't know if you saw
(01:50:26):
the staff, but I, um, uh, what's their head coach's name? John?
What that is? John Fox? He's I don't think he's
ever won a game as Bears head coach when they've
been favored and their favored. So I'm going with the Browns.
Um I was I was told, I was told that
(01:50:50):
that this was a bad pick. I was told this
was a bad pick. But I don't care if I
was told that this is a bad pick. The Dallas
Cowboys are gonna stomp the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks are done,
They're washed. Everybody knows it and the whole Hey, Russell
Wilson will save him, No, he won't. They've gotten their
ass kick two straight weeks because they're just not that good.
Cowboys four and a half points getting Zeke back Um.
(01:51:12):
Their pass rush isn't great, but you don't have to
have a great pass rush to get to UH, to
get to Russell Wilson. Give me the Cowboys and give
me the points. True Chargers are taken on the Jets now.
(01:51:32):
The Jets obviously don't have their starting quarterback Um from
earlier this season with Josh McCown. But the Cowboys but
the But the Chargers are all banged up injury wise,
I mean all banged up. And the question becomes, can
the Chargers play without Denzel Perriman. Inside, I think the
(01:51:53):
answer is yes. I shouldn't be doing this. I know
they're on the road. I know that the Chargers. I
started today thinking I would pick the Ats, but I'm
gonna roll with the Chargers at six and a half
point favorites. I think if you can beat the Giants there,
you can beat the Jets there. Playoff helps still faintly
alive for the Chargers. Give me the Chargers. Bills are
(01:52:14):
taking on the Patriots. Patriots coming off a huge win
over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Remember these two teams met earlier
in the season. Patriots won twenty three to three, and
of course everybody's going everybody was going crazy about Rob
Gronkowski and the forearm shiver to the head. The Bills
have won the last two games against the Colts and
the Dolphins since and um uh, this is a Patriots
(01:52:40):
team that's eleven and a half point favorite. I feel
like that spreads just too big. I'm gonna take the Bills.
M I do like this music. John, you can be
so happy for that, alright, Veto. By the way, Merry Christmas.
Tevito good Man does the imaging for this year show. Um,
(01:53:06):
you know, the Arizona Cardinals haven't been terrible here late
in the season. They haven't. I know, Blake Gaverage is
not great, and you know they're dealing with Kurwin Williams
and Elijah Penny as their running max. They're taking on
the Giants, and the Giants aren't good and their three
point favorites against the Giants. Give me the Arizona Cardinals
and their backups beating the New York Giants. And do
(01:53:27):
you see that JPP is gonna be playing with a
broken finger. This is the guy with three fingers on
one hand a broken finger in the other. Um, he's
gonna pleap playing with seven, seven working fingers. I'm gonna
take Arizona. I get one more, don't I. I just
want to make sure my math was good. This is
the one I struggle with all week long. John has
(01:53:48):
two Rams Titans. It feels like the Ram's value is
over inflated, and people are freaking out because the Titans, well,
they've lost two in a row to the Cardinals on
the road, to the Niners on the road. They return home. Um,
and this is a team that at home has beating
the Ravens by three. They beat the Seahawks at home
by six back when the Seahawks were healthier. They beat
(01:54:09):
the Jaguars way back when in the season. But look,
I think this Rams team is for real. I think
they take care of business, giving the Rams as road favorites.
Those are my picks there. It is five NFL five
college five for five with Doug Godley. I got all
these college picks. I guess we have to go down
(01:54:29):
the casino and make real college picks for you. A
huge mistake that cost them the game, and they'll do
it all over again. I'll explain online shopping and be confusing.
Well not anymore. With True Price from True Car, now
you can know the exact price you'll pay for your
next car. So visit True Car and enjoy more confident
car by the experience. It's cool outside in southern California
(01:54:58):
this morning, forty four by my ounce this morning, US
forty four in California. It feels like like ten in Connecticut.
Do you ever noticed that, Like you get your blood
gets so thin. And I know there's people listening to
us in the Midwest, in the Northeast are like, give
it a rest, dude. It literally is ten degrees here.
I'm just saying it was. It was chilly today. I
needed a coat. I needed a coat. Let's get to
(01:55:21):
the press, all the press ramos in the sticky button,
Steve Seg We'll start with one. Derek Carr. Of course,
you've mentioned the end of that Raider game Sunday night.
They lose to Dallas even though they were down three
final minute had the ball Oakland did, and the quarterback
(01:55:43):
on his run toward the pylon, got the first down
on the play, reached out for the pylon, lost control,
the ball rolled in the end zone, and with a
stupid rural Cowboys gat possession. That was the game. He
finally had met reporters yesterday. It was talking about it.
He said, Yeah, we mentioned ball security and jumping with
two hands and stuff like that, but I honestly didn't
(01:56:04):
think I was going to drop the ball. Of course,
he says, I think of it in basketball terms. I'd
rather take the last shot and miss it than pass
it off and try and do it another way. The
quarterback car said, from a competitive standpoint, I would try
it again, but with a better technique, two hands. I
don't know something where we don't lose the game. But
for making that decision, I would go for it again.
It's over, Jenny got I mean, of course you would
(01:56:29):
go for it again. You just hold on the football.
Can't do it. I mean, that's that's really what it is.
And he noted the rule that penalizes the offensive players.
I think, yeah, I think the I absolutely think the
what's it called? The rule is a stupid rule? Uh
(01:56:49):
touch whatever? The rule exists, and you gotta hold on
on the football, and you know, all you would have
done was not reach out for the pylon there you
held out on the ball. But of course you go
for it, no question, you roll out and go for
a game you can't play scared onto Men's college basketball
will have our first ever telecash that's commercial free with
the coaches miked up next month FS one on a
(01:57:10):
Friday night game Providence at De Paul. Is not only
gonna make up the coaches, no commercials for announcers Joe
Davis and Len Elmore, live Mike's huddle, locker room, sidelines,
from tip off to final whistle, everything in between. They're
gonna do it for women's game as well January second
on FS two from Seaton Hall. They tried at Fox
(01:57:31):
did last year for women's game. It was shockingly exciting.
It was a very good telecast and nice idea. That's
because that's because the women's coach is hilarious. That's why
which is what you're which is going to pick? Well,
that's what you're gonna get with um Ed Cooley is
is hilarious and I'm sure he'll know he's miked up.
(01:57:52):
The only thing that stinks is well Providence basketball right now.
So that's the only thing bad about the game. But
it's fun. And by the way, we do a game
on Facebook tonight on Facebook Stadium Sports, and there's no
commercials there. Now, we don't have the coaches miked, but
you can ask questions and have healthy back and forth,
so you don't go silent for two minutes during breaks.
(01:58:13):
You'll actually keep talking and answer questions. Oh yeah, Onto
the NFL and Jadeveon Clowney was sent trash cans by
Jacksonville fans after he said at Blake Bortles he's trash
after the game against the Jaguars Week fifteen. He has
used it as an opportunity. He has tweeted out a
photo Clowney has thank you Jaguars fans for sending trash
(01:58:36):
cans NRG Stadium. It has inspired me to fill them
and an entire truck with toys and turn a negative
situation into a blessing for some deserving women and children.
That's cool. I mean, it is cool. And I don't
even mind that he called Blake Bortles trash. There's lots
of guys that do think Blake Bortles is trash, and
(01:58:57):
I guess we'll find out once we get in the
playoffs if he isn't vectrash. But like do you're allowed
to talk. You're allowed to talk junk, You're allowed to
talk trash. You're allowed to say somebody stinks, especially somebody
who's going to be in your division next year. Totally
allowed to do that. There was an incident at lambeau
Field today. Headline suspect had been fired from food service job.
(01:59:17):
There was a one call at all. This is at
the Packers Stadium. Obviously no that no game today, but
a Green Bay man is in custody. He crashed his
car into multiple other cars and drove into a storage
area in the interior at the stadium. He got that
far while chasing a former co worker. Green Bay Police
chief says the twenty year old suspect had been fired
(01:59:37):
earlier this month from his job at lambeau Field, where
he worked for a contract food service company, after he
was involved in an altercation with a co worker. Police
do say the suspect at lambeau Field today was taken
into custody just six minutes after. Uh yeah, that's um.
This is like usually a pulsal worker. Instead it's a
(01:59:59):
guy who to the stadium. Yeah, it was a food
worker inside the stadium who who went to police earlier
in the day to make a report maybe about wrongful termination,
and then drove to lambeau Field saw the guy whom
he had the altercation with, crashed his car into the
other guy's vehicle this afternoon, forced it under the minivan
that was in front of it, and chase the victim
with his car, got onto a loading doc got even
(02:00:22):
actually threw into the interior of the stadium because the
security gate was raised for a truck before. Wow, I
haven't seen some stuff like that since I've watched he's
watched cops on reruns. Yeah, this was This was not Florida.
And finally, Tiger Woods in the news, saying today on
Twitter that since his fuse and surgery on his lower
back in April, the latest comeback now is going to
(02:00:44):
come without a swing coach. He has been relearning his
body and his golf swing, relying on field and the
previous three years of work with the Dallas based Chris Como,
who he's grateful to for his past work. Nothing with
respect for him, he says, but for now, I think
it's best for me to continue to do of this
on my own. Well, he's got so many coaches, and
the question becomes is the Hines fifty seven guy? But look,
(02:01:05):
part of it is no one knows your body like
you know your body. At some point you've gotta be
able to do it on your own and not take
anybody else's suggestions. And I we'll see. I'm still team
team Tiger. Although the fact that he can't keep up,
he can't keep a swing coach is uh, strikes me
as a bit of an issue. But I do think
he knows his body better than anybody else. Get out
(02:01:26):
there and pressed. That was the press. San Francisco's housing
crisis so bad. A development is rising on an ex
nuclear test site. That sounds lovely. It sounds lovely. I
read something the other day where Compton is now one
of the hottest markets in Los Angeles because it's the
only place you can get a house for less than
four hundred thousand dollars. I'm not gonna stick my stake
(02:01:49):
in the ground, be the first family to move in.
Go like hi, gris Walds are here speaking to griz Walds.
Enjoy yourself a merry Christmas and watch Christmas Vacation. That's
a funny movie, a great movie. Um. I'll be on
the Game of Night on Facebook. It will be fun.
First things first on Monday music will be with me
Tuesday through Friday on with Colin Calherd. And you know,
(02:02:13):
have a safe and merry Christmas. And it's a great
time to catch up with family. Also a great time
to catch up on sports. Great time to catch up
on sports. I will not be in my time slot
until the new year, but I've been at the time
slot for ten years and as far as I know,
next two years will definitely be there. So um, it's
(02:02:35):
been great to be on satellite radio, on Fox Sports Radio,
on the I Heart app for these eight months. Will
continue on the other side of the new year. In
the meantime, keep it locked to Fox Sports Radio. We're
doing some big things in seventeen and eighteen to come.
