Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Sports Boom, What Up America? Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio coming to you from the cloudy city
of Los Angeles. Championship weekend is upon us. We will
find out who will represent the a f C, will
represent the n f C in the Super Bowl, played

(00:21):
two weeks from Sunday in Chile, Chile, Minneapolis, St. Paul.
We will be going there all live during super Bowl Week.
Doug Gotlip Show will be on the road from Radio
Row and we'll bring you a litany of the best
guests getting ready for America's biggest sporting event. So look,
we have a ton to get to metric ton actually

(00:43):
to get to, which I don't know. Is a metric
ton bigger than uh uh than a ton in pounds?
I really don't know about that one. Numb I haven't
really thought about measuring. Here's what I do know. You
think you've got problems. Everybody's got problems, right. It's one
of the things that I find enjoyable about reality TV.

(01:06):
I understand that reality TV is not always the truest reality,
but when I watch other families, other relationships, I start
to think, you know what, I kind of feel normal.
Maybe that's the idea. They look abnormal. Some of it
is because the conflicts are made to be even bigger

(01:27):
than they are in reality, and your conflicts appear to
be much smaller, and their issues, some of them are relatable.
So when you watch reality television a lot of times,
there's some things that you can draw from and some
things that just make you feel okay about your own
issues at home. But what I find fascinating about this

(01:52):
levy on Bell story. So if you just um tuning
into sports rading for the first time today your national
sports rad you guys go local until you get or
you may have missed this story. Apparently Levyan Bell, who
of course has been suspended a couple of times. We
say for drugs, but it's it's for weed. Again. That
doesn't mean it's okay when you know you're gonna be
tested for weed. But I do think that most of

(02:14):
us in reality, No, this is more of a discipline issue,
more of an i Q test when you test. When
you test positive for weed, you're a dumbass. You just are.
In the NFL, everyone knows you're going to get tested once.
If you pass that test before the season begins, they
won't test you the rest of the year. So if
you failed a drug test one, that means you failed

(02:35):
one previously. So you failed one and then they told
you that we're gonna test you all the time now,
then you feeled another one. The first one that you
failed proved that you're an idiot. Everyone in the league
knows this. This is not a secret. I'm not breaking
any news. Failing an initial weed test is an i
Q test. It's not really a drug test. But whatever.
He's been suspended for weed before. All right, so not

(02:58):
the sharpest knife in the drawer. Okay, great running back,
but remember held out this year because he wants a
new contract. He's been injured before, injured, suspended, held out.
And then we come to learn not only did he
show up late for their final walk through of the season,

(03:20):
but he showed up late for the actual game. Uh
Kauughlin time. Tom Coughlin gets uh credit for this in
the NFL, but the truth is that there's lots of
old coaches that have this rule. Fifteen minutes early is
in fact on time. So he was an hour and
fifteen minutes late if you go by Couughlin time. Here's

(03:42):
Levian Bell, who clearly lacks discipline. Now some of you
would say, oh, Steelers are a mess, and I can't
help but agree with you, and Todd Helly never got
along with Ben Roethlisberger. Antonio Brown made a show of
how much money he wanted, and even after Facebook thing
which was in the locker room, which showed a lack

(04:02):
of team discipline, last year he got paid, he got
a new contract. Levian Bell held out and um, like,
look that the team still has there, you know what
to the fire because he's still the best running back
in the league. So you have this super talented duo
of Brown and Bell and the quarterback who didn't get

(04:27):
along with the OC doesn't really jibe with uh, some
of the younger players, some of the way guys are
doing things talked about retirement kind of does the passive
aggressive thing. And the head coach who's suddenly now taking
a lot of heat but hasn't held all these guys accountable.
It seems like a it seems like a situation that's

(04:48):
less than ideal. But then hold on, you take a breath.
You're like, wait, last week we were talking about the
Patriots and how the owner, the quarterback and the coach
aren't seeing eye to eye as far as who they
should keep and who they should get rid of. The
Kansas City Chiefs, who for the first month of the season,
we're the best team in football. In the last month
of the season before the playoffs were in the conversation

(05:08):
of the best team in football. As they always do
lose early in the playoffs. That's what Andy Reid's team does.
They're likely to jettison Alex Smith like they have a
quarterback issue. They think they have a guy who has
star potential, but he's only played in started in one
game in the National Football League. The Tennessee Titans won
their first round game and summarily fired their coach. The

(05:33):
Buffalo Bills got to the playoffs for the first time
in eighteen years, fired their offensive coordinator, and they don't
really have a quarterback. The Jacksonville Jaguars are taken on
the New England Patriots, and Blake Portals is their quarterback
just because he's been their quarterback for no other reason
at all. So my point is this, The Pittsburgh thing

(05:53):
is interesting. The Pittsburgh thing is a bit of a mess.
Pittsburgh did score forty two points Pittsburg Steel at least
to this point, has Antonio Brown, has Levy On Bell,
has Ben Roethlisberger, and has shown the ability to go
deep in the playoffs and to win super Bowls with
their quarterback. They have things others would dream of, and

(06:14):
yes they got it. They got problems, but guess what,
everybody's got problems. When I look at the Levy on
Bell story, I'm like, man, this feels like Odell Beckham Jr.
Park two Right, Odell Beckham Jr. Superstar talent missed most
of the year because of injury. But there's the The

(06:35):
concerns in New York are has his ego grown so
out of control that not only does he want to
be paid at a level above that of even the
best wide receiver, but if you pay him, you're only
making him more entitled, more empowered, so that the lack
of discipline he already has in terms of getting along
with others wanting the ball, uh penalties because he gets

(06:59):
into it with other wonder backs. All the little things
that he does that take away from his ridiculous talent.
Why would you stop if you get a huge contract
and somebody says, don't do that again? But then they
give you all the money in the world that this
is actions, not words. But when I see the Steelers

(07:19):
have these kind of issues, I think a lot less
of the issues that the Patriots have. I just do. Yeah,
Patriots got some issues. It's not gonna end well with
Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft. And it's
not you know, their offensive coordinator is gonna be gone,
their defensive coordinators gonna be gone. How their linebackers coach

(07:40):
has been interviewing for head coaching jobs in college and
coordinator jobs in the ENF. It feels like like the
last one out of New England. Make sure you turn
the lights off, because there'll be nobody left. But I
read this levy on Bell story and I'm like, Okay,
that's why the This is a good reason why the
Steelers never seem to achieve the level of success or

(08:01):
the level of dominance success they had, dominance they did
not have in spite of their talent. It's because of
things like discipline and that levy on Belt is so good,
He's been able to get away with so much. But um,
I also realized, much like when I watch reality TV,

(08:23):
we got issues, right like Ramos is as nice a
human being as I know. He's been married eighteen years.
I guarantee that if I told him, like the issues
me and my wife have, Like, man, we got one
kid that doesn't love her school, another kid he kind
of into it, another one doesn't really have any down
enough friends. We just don't know what we're doing. Do

(08:43):
we like where we lived? Like, oh you know, we
we we picked the place that we wanted to live,
even though it's far from more because it too far.
Do we want to move close? We move close and
move away from family and friends and all this stuff
like oh you got some issues? Like yeah, guess what,
everybody's got issues. And I don't know if that was
the true intent of reality TV, but that's always my takeaway.

(09:07):
I watched and go like, yeah, I kind of feel normal.
Yeah I can we argue every now and again, Right,
that's what happens. And people come over our house and
I'll get onto my kids and my wife and you
will say like, sorry, Doug, get I don't like it
when you raise your voice. I'm like, look, they all
have kids, they all you got kids. You're gonna yell
at your kids because it's like they do not. They

(09:30):
do not listen otherwise, especially now when you can't beat
him like we were beating all right. You know what
my dad would have done. He would have he would
have smacked me. But I can't smack you. That's no
longer acceptable. So I'm just gonna raise my voice. Dealer's
got some problems. They need to solve them. It's a

(09:53):
hard one. I talked to a couple of NFL people
and they're like, Levyan Bell is the best of the position.
Antonio Brown's a best of disposition. There's other guys that
are really really good. Those are the two best. And
the second that they say, like, hey, we're gonna move
on from Levy on Bell, somebody else is gonna give
him that big check. Bucky Brooks from the NFL Network

(10:16):
will join the show up coming next I'll ask him
what do you do with Levian Bell, superstar super talent.
You can franchise, tag him, you can give him a
long term contract, but aren't you just empowering him and
entitling him even more? Plus I get his thoughts in
the Championship Games this upcoming Sunday. All that's next. But
first I'm here to tell you about a supplement that
I take every day. It's called M Drive. If your

Doug Gatla Show Fox Sports Radio. In the end of night,
we broadcast from Sherman Oaks, California. If you, oh, if

(12:00):
I had a driver over the freeway, I've been in Sino, California,
which is where the late Tom Petty used to live.
Bore he met his maker a couple months ago. Shame
what a talent man. Uh. Bucky Brooks lives near her
He's coached high school football here. Of course, he played
in the National Football League. He covers the National Football
League for the NFL Network. He joins us on the
Doug Otlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. By the way,

(12:23):
Bucky and Daniel Jeremiah both picked the Jaguars to win
last weekend. Congrats on nail in that pick. I know you,
I know you said they would also score forty forty
five points against the Steelers. That was amazing. That was
amazing Radio. When you said they're gonna score forty five
Blake boys gonna step into some throws in the in
the third and fourth quarter. Um. Okay, so we we
heard this Levian Bell story. Okay, Levian who wants to

(12:45):
do contract? Levian who held out? Levi on Who's had
a past suspension or two and a couple of injuries?
You know, miss some you know, the injuries not his fault.
The suspensions were his fault. Um apparently late to walk
through and consistently late to games, Tomland one of them.
There two hours for games. He shows up an hour
before the game. But here here's the problem, Like, he's

(13:07):
the best running back in the league. What do you
do now? If you're Pittsburgh, I think what you continue
to proceed as if you were going to bring him
back on a franchise tag. I think everything in this
negotiation hasn't been about the Pittsburgh Steelers trying to figure
out where do we value the running back and how
much can we pay the running back based on how

(13:29):
long we expect him to continue to play at the
highest level. They offered Livyan Bill a long term contract
last year, and during this negotiation he turned it down,
elected to play on the franchise tag when the after
the Pittsburgh Steelers. You've seen the patting, the behavior that
you came from him, later meetings, late to games, some
of the things that are taken place off the field,
us to injury history. You may be more willing now

(13:53):
than ever to have him on a one year tag,
take a year to year, and eventually find a successor
to take his place down the road. How do you?
How do you if you haven't been able to discipline
him previously? I guess the first thing is how much
of that falls on Tomlin that he's been able to
get away with this. I mean, it all falls on Tomlin,

(14:13):
but I guess it depends on. What we don't know
is we don't know if they find him for those transgressions.
We know that he was late, but we don't know
if they took money out of his check form showing
up late. We don't know what kind of things they've
done to him from a punitive standpoint to get after him.
It doesn't speak well to the program that Levin build.
One of your stars, one of the guys who should
be the leader of the team is showing up late.

(14:36):
Some of that year you can put on the feet
of Tomlin. But if they have taken disciplinary action and
he's just been a guy that is like, Hey, I
don't care, I'll take the fine. What can you really do?
You gotta get him the show up on Sunday because
ultimately you need him to play. You need him to
be the number one running back that he's been. You
just have to figure out a way to take money
out of his check to make sure that you let

(14:56):
him know that you're not being able to get away
with the things that he's been able to get away. Again,
I agree with you. Um kind of lost to that
is the defense sucks right, Like I know they don't
have Chase Here and I thought when Shease Here went
down that was the end of that was the end
of that. But um, but I mean I didn't know
they'd give up forty thirty eight whatever to the to
the Jacksonville Jaguars. Obviously one was the defensive touchdown. How

(15:20):
do you fix the defense? Well, the problem with the
prinsierg stealers on defenses, they haven't been able to really
find that those impact players that they needed. In the
draft of late they took Blood Dupree. He was supposed
to be a dominant edge rusher. He has not been
able to do that. They've taken other players in early
rounds that haven't necessarily given them the impact that they need.

(15:41):
And in the middle of it, they've also tried to
transition from a team that was a zone blitz team
on the Dick Lebo to a team that is trying
to play a little more traditional Tampa two, to a
team that is now trying to be a little more
man to man a lot of moving pieces. But every
time you change your defense, you get to change the
kind of personnel that you bring in. And right now,

(16:02):
their team that hasn't been able to necessarily marry the
players that they have with the scheme that they want
to play. Yes, it's it's fascinating. All right, let's get
to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Um, do we change how we
look at Blake Bortles? Now? No, you know what Blake
Bortles is. He's had. Uh, he's coming off a really
solid game against the Pittsburgh Stellers, but the week before

(16:23):
he rushed for more yards than he drew. So I
don't think you can get excited about what he's been
able to do. I think the big thing that you
know if you're the Jacksonville Jaguars, I know how we
have to play to help our quarterback play at his best.
We need to be able to run the ball effectively.
If we are going to throw, we want to throw
on early down situations where the defense is loading the box.
We got one on one outside. We can make some

(16:45):
simple red throws and hopefully he's able to either find
the primary or you can get it to the check down.
The problem that you have when you go against the
New England Patriots to doing the pages are one of
the teams to play man to man defense, probably more
than any other team in the league, and so a
lot of those checked out easy things that Blake Bortles
has been able to rely on. They're gonna cover those

(17:07):
guys up because the man is assigned to a man,
so they're not gonna be any easy throws. He is
going to be challenged to make some tight when their throws.
And how he handles that responsibility high handles depressure of
having to be an efficient passer, will ultimately determined if
the Jaguars can stand a chance in this game. All right,
what about the what about the New England Patriots how much.

(17:27):
I mean, like, I don't know about it about his hand.
He showed up today with a glove on gloves on
his hand. Maybe it was cold but or maybe he
was playing coy. But we heard that Tom Brady heard
his throwing hand. Um, how do you think, how should
how should that affect how we look at this game? Well,
I mean I think it can be Uh, it can't
have an impact on the game. Obviously, you never want

(17:48):
your quarterback to hurt his hand on his throwing hand.
And so depending on what he heard. If you orders, um,
if you're at his index finger where those gidgits really
controlled the flight of the ball. And so if he's
not able to squeeze the ball, he's made able to
grip the ball the way that he normally is used
to gripping it. Yes, it's gonna affect the way the
ball travels. And if you have cold weather, the ball

(18:09):
is slick, if it's harder, any of those things. If
he's not able to really use his dumb or the
next thing or whatever is hurt, it is going to
change the flight of the ball. I think the big
thing will he'll be able to play, But we'll see
very very early on. If he's able to fit the
ball and tight windows. If he's not able to fit
the ball and type windows, it changes their approach. It

(18:30):
changes how they're able to play. Maybe they become a
little more reliant on the running game, maybe they do
some things differently. But at two we really see him
in warm up, and still we see him play the
first part of the game. We really don't know how
the injury is going to impact his performance. We do
know that to beat Tom Brady, traditionally, you've got to
be able to really rush with four right, be physical

(18:51):
the line of scrimmage. You gotta get some multiple looks,
but rush with four and get him off his spot.
Is that the style by which the Justice Jacksonville Jaguars
normal operate. You have all the teams that can face
Tom Brady and make him uncomfortable. The jackson and Jaguars
have all the core ingredients. They have the ability to
rush before they can rush off the edges, they can

(19:11):
rush up the middle league Jackson Claire's campbell. Uh, you
want to pressure him and make him move off the
spot because he's not a guy that's athletic enough to
kind of do damage outside the pocket. They also have
defenders at the second level that can beat up the
receivers at the line of scrimmage. They can make like
miserable form. Don't give them free releases, make them work

(19:32):
for every caster they get. The one thing that the
Jaguars don't have. We haven't figured out who's going to
be a racer. For Rob Mankowski to really beat the Patriots,
you have to be able to minimize what Grenkowski is
able to do. How are they going to handle that matchup?
Are they going to put Jimen Ramsey on him and
have a big corner take on the big tight end.

(19:54):
Are they going to try one of their linebackers, Telvin
Smith from Miles Jack to match up with him. The
one thing that we is eighty seven is the controller
and really he is the um son of that passing
game universe. You gotta make sure that you take care
of eighty seven because the rest of the guys you
can contain. But if you don't stop Wronk, you don't
have a chance. All right, So what would you do?

(20:15):
I mean, do you put gentlemen, what would you do?
I mean, maybe you don't do one thing, but what
would your game plan be if Bucky Brooks was the
defensive coordinator. Well, I think if you look at your threats,
this is a game and this is a team that
really likes to use the tight ends and the running backs.
So I want to take away Rob Minkowski. I want
to make sure that we control the running backs the

(20:35):
rest of the receivers. I don't think they can get loose.
I think if they want to put Jyllen Ramsey on Grenkowski,
that's a really good idea. I think you need to
also have a double teamer to make sure that you
tell Tom Brady we're taking eighty seven out the game.
You don't have to go elsewhere. And then I think
you're linebackers Telvin Smith, Mile Jack. They're quick enough to
go and match up with those running backs in space.

(20:58):
The main thing is what your strategy is. If it's Jalen,
if a's a linebacker, double team and don't give him
a free release and make the other guys beat you.
If at the end of the day you lose this
game but Rob Rokowski has been contained, then what you
do with you tip You had to say they were
the better team. You can't let seven finished with over
a hundred yards in the past inning, because then there's

(21:21):
no chance for you to win. All right, Look, we
have no idea his health. Let's assume he's healthy enough
to be a good version of himself. Who do you
like in the game. As much as I want the
Jackman Jaguars winning, I picked him and I think they
certainly had the recipe to do it. I think it's
tough to go on Foxborough and deal with the Patriots
at home. I'm gonna say that the Patriots win, but
I'm deep down the side I'm hoping that the jaguarston

(21:43):
find a way to get it done. Minnesota taking on
the Philadelphia Eagles. Aside from what was just an atrocious,
uh justin absolutely atrocious tackle from Marcus Williams, that was
a remarkable win. Um, how do they match up against
the build up Eagles? This is as evenly matched up

(22:05):
for a championship game that we've seen it. Sometimes. These
two teams are basically carbon copies of one another. Their
teams that are really built the right way, meaning, yes,
the quarterback is important, but it's not the quarterback that
is a driving force for them being in the championship round.
Both have dominant defenses, Both have the ability to pressure
you are for The Eagles have a defensive line that

(22:27):
rolls at eight nine guys, so they've weig you down
in the back end. The Minnesota Vikings are standing, they
can lock luff. This will come down to really just
shoot out between Case Kingdom and Nick Foles and which
God do you trust the most. At the end of
the day, one of these quarterbacks is gonna have to
make a handful of play and the guy is able
to deliver those plays will lead his team to the

(22:48):
Super Bowl. Right now, I think the Minnesota Vikings are
better equipped to help elevate the play of their quarterback
in the Philadelphia Eagles. That's why I wen go with
the Vikings in this one. Why are they better built
to elevate the play? I think when you look at
the receivers and the tide end that Minnesota Vikings have,
Adam Feedland and Stefan Dx to me, are the best
one to punch at wide receiver in the National Football League.

(23:10):
Both of those guys can play as a number one receiver.
They both can get off at any time. The outstanding
route runners, they create problems. You have a big time
tide end and Cal Rudolph and then you have two
running backs, the Tavis Murray and jam McKinnon get a
founder way not only his runners, but as receivers. Case
Keenum had the villager around him to elevate his play.
Nick Foles certainly has that. But I think the receivers

(23:33):
in Minnesota are adjusted notch better and the suppointed Nick
Folds are gonna get from his guys. Great stuff, Bucky,
great stuff as always. Man, Really appreciate you joined us.
Look forward to talking to me this uh next week,
this time actually next Monday, we'll know who's playing in
the super Bowl in in the Twin Cities. Thanks for
being our guests. I appreciate it all right. That's Bucky
Brooks from the NFL Network. As conditions on the field change,

(23:55):
so can your insurance needs. Talk with the Farmers agent
today so you can says whether your policy is game ready.
Find an agent at Farmers dot com. We are Farmers.
Let's work in Dan Buyer here. Figure out what else
is going on in the world of sports. Is Dan
has at his desk at his fingertips. Uh, it's almost
like the nuclear codes, that's what that's how much stuff

(24:17):
he has in front of it in the nice twelve
minute conversation you had with Bucky Brooks. Also during that time,
you probably could have listened to Tom Brady's press conference
today about three times because it lasted just over four
minutes and contained stuff like this on Sunday physically capable,
a lot of short answers from the Patriots quarterback, who
met the media for the first time since he injured

(24:39):
his hand in practice on Wednesday, a lot of will see's,
we'll see Brady and the Patriots take on the Jaguar
Sunday at three or five Eastern time in the a
f C Championship game. What we also saw today gloves
on Brady's hand, yes, both hands, as he did the
press conference covering up the injured one, but again was
hurt in practice on Wednesday. Vikings wide receiver Adam feeling

(25:00):
questionable for their NFC Championship game against the Eagles because
of a back injury. Vikings and Eagles will kick off
at six thirty Eastern times Sunday. You will see the
game on Fox, and NFL investigation revealed that the Raiders
did follow the Rooney rule when they went through the
process of hiring a new head coach John Grudden was
hired to replace Jack del Rio, who was dismissed immediately
following the team's Week seventeen loss to the San Diego Chargers.

(25:24):
And they followed the the letter of the law, not
the spirit of the law. Yes, yeah, yep, I think
that's very fair. Some NBA news to pass along. The
Lakers will be without a Lonzo Ball tonight against the Pacers,
while brandon Ingram is a game time decision. Hornets reportedly
listening to offers for guard Kemba Walker, according to ESPN. Yeah, look,
I think that the Kemba Walker thing is interesting because, uh,

(25:47):
a couple of things. One, you know, because he played
so well in New York City, he's a bigger name
than he would be, um then he would you know,
he played Yukon prominent player, won a national championship. Had
none of these things that heard, I'm not sure we'd
pay as much attention to Kemba. But what is interesting
is twofold one. So let me get the straight team

(26:08):
that was a pleasant surprise a couple of years ago.
Adds Dwight Howard and suddenly they're not achieving nearly what
was hoped that is that right, where have I read
this before? Right? This is l A Houston Atlanta Like
Dwight Howard has the reverse might as touch like things
that go, well, you're bringing in Dwight Howard and unbelievable. Yeah,

(26:34):
you know, let's get rid of our best player. Let's
get rid of our best player. Uh. And the Charlotte
Hornets they're just good enough to not be bad, but
they're just bad enough to not be good right there
in that And I love people like, oh, could you
trade Kembo Walker like or you could just stand pat right,

(26:58):
or you could just hey, let's just stand pad it
at eighteen and now, I look, their head coach has
been sick. Uh Kemba did have They just beat the
Washington Wizards one thirty three to one oh nine. He
just had nineteen and seven two blocks in his last game.
By the way, Dwight Howard eighteen and fifteen. There's a

(27:21):
lot more issues with this team than just Kemba and
just Dwight Howard making everything. They got Marvin Williams who's
forever been overpaid and overrated right drafted ahead of Chris
Paul and Darren Williams um. But the other part is
like if you're the Cleveland Cavaliers. I don't know. It's

(27:45):
funny that the trade that they pulled off in order
to get Isaiah Thomas, Like, I'd rather have Kemba Walker
to Wasiah Thomas five days a week, twice on Sunday.
It was six days a week and twice on sund
Is that the expression I think it is? You know,
Kemba averages twenty one a game, but Kemba is and

(28:06):
though he's not big, he's so much bigger and a
little bit more capable at the defensive end. Also a
high volume guy, but I like Kemba. Kemba is more
of a one on one guy than Isaiah Thomas, who
needs to pick and roll in order to get going downhill.
Even the best athletes are put to the test at times,

(28:26):
and the same goes for your car battery. Luckily Auto
Zone offers free battery testing. Se never buy a part
that you don't need, stop in today getting the zone
Auto Zone. Uh wow, yeah, So that's I mean, kind
of amazing. The Dwight Howard thing right, like literally everywhere
he's gone, the team has gotten worse, not better. And

(28:51):
you know, looks statistically this year not I'm not a
terrible year. Not a terrible year, shooting a lower percentage
than his career percentage, but not a terrible you know,
averaging about twelve and a half rebounds. And Steve Clifford
being sick and me being away from the team. That
doesn't help, and they don't have a great bench. But
can you think of a guy who's gone more places

(29:13):
and after Orlando, everywhere he's gone has gotten worse. You
see a trend moving, huh? Tyron Louse says that they
need to get Kevin Love involved in the when the
offense struggles post the basketball, Loose said he referred to

(29:34):
the solution when the Calves go through dry dry spells,
need to get Kevin Love the ball. He had twelve
points on three of ten, shooting, eleven rebounds and to assists.
He only four shot attempts in the second half, while
the Calves shot just thirty two and a half percent.
Three cash players had more attempts than him after halftime.
Isaiah Thomas had nine, Lebron seven and Jeff Green seven.

(29:56):
Derrick Rose tied him with four shot attempts. You almost
forgot they still had Derrick Ross. And because Derrick RoCE
just came back last night, Like, oh yeah, Derrick Rose,
where is he playing out Cleveland? The Cleveland Cavaliers are
one of those teams to which you walk into a
house and I love walking into real estate, right, And

(30:18):
they have pieces that in and of itself look really glamorous, right, like, oh,
is that a Viking top? Yes it is. That is
a Viking stovetop. It's beautiful, you know, is that you know?
Everybody's in on quartz countertops down those quartz countertops, Why,
yes they are. You know, all the hardware and the

(30:39):
doors is nice, got new windows. We did the bathrooms, like,
the faucets are really nice, but the you can't see
the pool from the kitchen. The kid's bedrooms are a
little bit too small, and they all share three bedrooms,
share one bathroom. The masters just massively over. We're done

(31:01):
to the point where it's a walking closet. It takes
up a ton of good space. And you're like, look,
I love all these different little pieces, but I don't
love the house. I don't love the bones of the house.
Whereas the calves, I mean, where's the the warriors. I'm
not sure that. I don't think the pieces are as good, right,

(31:21):
Andrea Goodala is not as good as he's been. Sean
Livingston is not as good as he's been. Those guys
are on the downward slide of their career. And then
they have the the Pat mccause of the world. You
got Swaggy pe who like he's just one mindset. I'm
gonna come in and score. You don't really it is
not really a true warrior. Right. Then they've got this
young crew, fresh rookies and sophomores that are good, but

(31:44):
they're not developed up like I don't think the pieces
are nearly as good. But it all kind of fits together,
it all works, it all flows, all got a theme,
and so the house is better, So the US is better.
Wouldn't you like a bigger tax refund? Tax Slayer was

Organ State game? Magnificent broadcast? Who was that guy? Who
was that guy? Nothing? Nothing wrong? Most you didn't watch?
You don't love me anymore? Right, I'm gonna I'll be honest.
I did not watch that game, but I know I
saw your tweet out congratulating your brother, so I assume
they want they want, they did, they did win. Way

(33:08):
to keep wait, way to keep up. That's good, that's okay.
What about you music? Chalci Northridge was not on TV
last night? Yeah? You know what, it's actually funny that Yeah,
because State Northridge was not on TV. I actually did
not watch either. There you go, thanks guys, appreciate it.
I feel significant. Let's get to a game. Okay, this

(33:31):
is game time. On the Doug Gottlieb Show, even the
best athletes are put to the test of times, and
the same goes for your car battery. Luckily, Auto Zone
offers free battery testing, so you never buy a part.
You don't need stuffing today getting the zone auto zone,
Dan Buyer, what's the game? The game today is Psychic. Oh, okay,

(33:53):
let's see Psychic. Let me ask you this, Well, Brian
Hoyer take any snaps in Sunday's a f C Championship
game at quarterback, we will take a step at wide receiver.
Well maybe if he has to hold hold for the
I just didn't want Psychic to take the easy way

(34:13):
out and say yes, the punter is going to be
I think I think he will take them. I think
they only they'll be in the fourth quarter when they
have the game in hand, maybe taking in a knee
or just handing off to one of the many running
backs that they have in the Patriots stable. Okay, Psychic.
Will the point spread for the Jaguars Patriots game move
anymore than it already has prior to Sunday's game. It

(34:36):
opened as a nine point spread in favor of the Patriots,
dropping now to seven and a half points. Yes, it
will move a point. I just don't know in what
direction it'll end up, either being eight and a half
or six and a half. I just don't know which direction,
you know, depend on news out of the Tom Brady front.
There is a report out of Boston that Brady suffered
four stitches when he was hit on the hand on Wednesday,

(34:58):
and that there was a lot of blood on at hand.
But it doesn't seem to be having any setbacks. That's
according to a report out of Boston. That would that
would make sense. You know what remind me of is
the Trevor Bauer. Remember Trevor Bauer with the Indians when
he cut his hand on the on the drone and
then he was pitching in Toronto, his first time back pitching,
and it just started bleeding all over the place. They
had to take him out. Yes, yeah, that's awesome TV.

(35:21):
But I was the one who was sitting there going, yeah,
bleed awesome. Rad Baseball had a little uh. It was
kind of like a Gaylord Perry, just a little different.
Had a little extra juice on him with the blood flying. Uh.
Psychic will Levan Bell will be a Pittsburgh Steeler next season?
I believe, Yes, yes, my my psychic powers tell me

(35:43):
he will be. They will franchise tag him and he
will be. There's anything to the amount of touches another
year where he had a lot of touches, over four
hundred and thirty. This year, I'm gonna make fourteen and
a half million now the latest report as he touched
on on the top. Or is he just too too
elite that they have to put up with all this garbage?

(36:04):
I look, I don't think they want to, but I
think they are going to continue to put up with
it because he's you know, and a short term deal,
though you're overpaying him for one year, doesn't lock you in.
And if you don't like him, you can always you know,
trade him or get rid of him at the end
of next year. But I think, you know, you try
to motivate him. Hey, if you want a long term deal,
you gotta show people you can produce and you can

(36:25):
be on time, you can do all the things you
need to do. Uh. I do think there's something to
the amount of touches. I think that's why they don't
want to sign him to a long term deal. But
I don't think it matters in the short term. Alright.
Some more news out of Pittsburgh. Psychic Well fired Steeler's
offensive coordinator Todd Haley be back in the NFL next season.

(36:47):
That's a great question. I think the answer is the
answer is yes. I don't think it'll be as an
offensive coordinator, though he'll have some sort of analyst job
or quarterback coach job or something. He has done a
good job like that. There's a reason he got the
job to begin with with the Kanci Chiefs to be
coming there their head coach. And there's a reason that

(37:10):
he got the job of Pittsburgh. And I know his
dad was a long time NFL life. I don't see
him taking a year off. It's pretty amazing on how
as you mentioned, he took the Chiefs to the playoffs,
that he loses that job, and then you're thinking, okay,
maybe maybe he resurrects his coaching career and becomes a
head coach again because of how great the offenses were.
Maybe he learned the first time. But all of the

(37:31):
actions that we've seen since in the new sense lends
to what you're saying is that no, he's not going
up towards head coaching. He may be actually going down
towards another job before he then jumps back up as
an OC. So he's reportedly interested in the Cardinals offensive
coordinating gig that he once was when he was Yeah. Yeah,
but Cardinal's have to find a head coach first, and

(37:53):
then that guy's got to figure out if he wants
Todd Hailey a couple of more. Uh, Kemba Walker, will
it contend to trade for the Hornets guard by the
trading deadline next? Yes, absolutely, we'll trade him. Yeah, just
twenty one a game. Uh. Look, I think in the
right I actually think Kendall Kemba Walker's right role is
a six man out the bench on a on a
playoff championship caliber team, right a Jamal Crawford type role.

(38:16):
Salary isn't an issue. Makes about twelve million dollars a year.
Is another year left on his contract. Finally, Doug, it's
a big day tomorrow in college basketball, not really on
the court because there aren't any huge marquee games on
the the schedule. I think there's a Xavier Seaton Hall
matchup tomorrow that maybe the only ranked teams going at it.
But Zion Williamson, the high school product from South Carolina,

(38:38):
makes his college choice. Where psychical Zion Williamson choose to
go to school, He's narrowed down to five Clemson, South Carolina,
North Carolina, Kansas, in Kentucky, where will Zion Williamson commit.
Um John Williamson will go to Clemson's from South Carolina
will go to Clemson. This is game time on the

(39:02):
Duck Godly Show. You guys see Zian Williamson left handed
like six five, thickly built freak athlete. It needs to
lose some weight though, I mean like, I can't imagine
how he would move latter later out on the floor
if if he lost you know, ten fifteen pounds and
looks like baby fat. But he is an absolute freak.

(39:23):
These shooting better too, but freak talent could go anywhere
from South Carolina. Recent reports are going to stay home
and go to Clemson. Yes, music any better than Marvin Bagley. Nope,
well Marvin bag is also left handed. Martin bag is
like six and can it's probably a better perimeter player. Now.

(39:44):
Um Williamson is better in highlights, like crazy level of athletics,
not just because he jumps high and dunks hard, but
because he thickly built right so it it looks even
like man. That's incredible how explosive he is, considering he's not.
He's not thin like Vince Carter has always been a
freak athlete, but he's also kind of been sinewy. That's

(40:06):
not how Zion Williamson is. Billt like he's just a
monster in terms of his size and explosiveness. Marvin Bagley,
obviously probably this year's number one overall pick, plays at
Duke because I Williamson. Of course, we just mentioned we'll stay.
I think I've everyone I know said they expect him
now to stay home and play at South Carolina. That'd
be huge news for Brad Brownell, who's also got Clemson

(40:27):
in the top although they lost for the fifty nine
all time, they've lost every time they've played in Chapel Hill,
North Carolina. That's crazy as a road too, crazy stuff. Um,
you know, it's it's kind of interesting. As as Bucky
Brooks said he as much as he wants the Jaguars win,

(40:49):
he thinks the Patriots are gonna win. We talked yesterday
about how it appears to be an easy road for
the Pats, um not just too. You know, they get
home field advantage, They play the Titans, who are going
to fire their coach and end up did firing their coach.
Then they then they now they're now they're gonna play
the Jacksonville Jaguars led by Blake Borrels and play him

(41:09):
at home. But there's one thing that the Patriots have
that no one else has. On the other hand, that
might not be the thing that you actually need to
get to and win the big game. The other three
teams have have that, and frankly so do the Patriots.
We'll explain up coming next in the Doug Gotlip Show
Fox Sports Radio. What Up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports

(41:31):
Radio Live and Direct from the City of Angels eight
seven seven Fox eight seven seven Fox Them was the
numbers kids, Feel free to uh do yourself favor and
give us a call. Musical do we had in front

(41:51):
of us this hour, AH Trail Blazer's head coach Terry
Stotts like Terry Stotts minutes during this show, all right,
we'll ask him about what Damian Lillard has said about
uh trying to be an All Star and how he
thinks the deck is stacked against him and some of
the other plaver about I even heard Stephen A. Smith

(42:14):
suggest Damon Litard should go to them and say he
wants to be traded, okay, and then they go that's cool. Yeah,
just the lack of reality and some people who just
go like, yea, you're the best player on a team
that's that's struggling, and of course you've been injured a
little bit this year, and you should go demand to
be traded. They should trade their best asset, Like, yeah,

(42:34):
we're not gonna do that, but hey, thanks, thanks for
the open line of communications. See your practice. Okay, anyway,
Terry Stouts will join us. Um. Look, I went on
Cowherd show earlier today and sorry, if you're in Boissey,
Boise runs cow Hurt show on what's called dB. You
know that doesn't mean cow Hurt is a d B

(42:56):
dB and radio terms means what Ryan Music delayed broadcasts.
It's like tape delay. You know, the NBA Finals to
be on tape delay. So if you're in Boise, I
guess ear muffs or you're gonna hear this again in
your ears, like in three hours when they replay Cowhard
great station up there by the way on six thirty
amph in Boise. So I went on and I said like, look,

(43:20):
you can tell me all you want that people. I oh,
I want the Patriots to lose, But do you really
want Blake Bortles and the Jaguars to be in the
Super Olver. The Patriots like, No, the best possible scenario
is probably Vikings Patriots great home field advantage. There's unbelievable
stories across the board for the Minnesota Vikings. It does

(43:43):
not diminish the stories of the Philadelphia Eagles. But I
mean case Keenum right with the with Houston and the
owner makes them play him in Houston with the Rams,
and he looked so inept that Ram's offense was so inept.
You know, he's really the third string quarterback there is.
He was a placeholder until Teddy Bridgewater could get back healthy.

(44:06):
Sam Bradford plays a great game and then isn't right
the rest of the year, and now he's the best
possible option that they have, the only guy with UH
with a healthy body, although he hurt his knee in college.
And then of course they lost their first round pick
Dalvin Cook and running back they're running their wide receiver

(44:26):
if he plays. Adam Theelan's got a bad back, but
he's like the NFL version of Rudy. So some incredible
stories there, But more than anything, a home field advantage UH.
Super Bowl generally doesn't have a great atmosphere all the time.
That would be as good at atmosphere as you find
and you and that way, like look at Miss Minnesota

(44:47):
pulls the upset, you'd still get huge numbers. Whereas though
you're gonna get a Matt Monster number, whoever's in the
super Bowl if it's Jacksonville and Philadelphia won't be a
great number. Jacksonville, Minnesota won't be great for by Super
Bowl standards. You understand, you know what I'm saying, Okay,
And the reason that you want to see the Patriots
is because they have an all time grade at quarterback.

(45:11):
And we talked about this yesterday where we said, hey,
you know it's not a I mean, it's the easiest
road you're ever going to get if you're the paths.
But what's lost in this conversation, Yes, do you need
a franchise quarterback. Sure, because the franchise quarterback will keep
you in the game, We'll make you viable. What you

(45:32):
really need is a great defense. That's what you really need.
And um, what if I told you that the defenses
playing this weekend. I had a conversation with Tony Romo.
Tony Romo, obviously you've heard of him. But this is
back when he was with the Cowboys, and he's like, hey,
look you want a little tip. Sure, nobody doesn't have

(45:56):
a top ten defense. Is winning Super Bowl ain't happening?
Just not. And so while we go crazy about the
franchise quarterbacks and franchise quarterbacks much like Aaron Rodgers can
lift you to a height that your team should not achieve.
The fact is that that height is not a Super
Bowl win. What's the number one stat for defenses in

(46:19):
your mind? Uh, let's start with you Music. Number one
stat for you? How many points a game do you
give up? It's pretty good stat. Ramos, what's the number
one stat for you? Uh? Quarterbacks? Like quarterback hurries or
something about the quarterback? How much pressure the quarstion of
the quarterback? Okay, Okay, Dan buyer um, Dan, Dan's work? Dan?

(46:43):
What's the number one stat that you focus on to
determine whether or not a defense is good? Yards allowed?
All right? I do. I'm I'm with Ryan Music on
this one. The only thing that truly matters is how
many points you've allowed, right, I mean, like, look, and
I'm not saying that that your your the stat that

(47:03):
you focus on rammost is wrong or buyer the stat
that you focus on is wrong. But to me, the
most what what really signals signifies whether or not to
have good defenses. I point you allow you now because
the yards allowed? Well, the problem with that is if
you're behind all the time, this is like passing yards, right, Like,

(47:25):
if you're behind all the time, you're gonna accrue a
bunch of yards. What do you do in the red
zone when it's really important? So some people have red
zone percentage, some people it is yards allowed, yards for play,
et cetera. The Minnesota Vikings have allowed the fewest points
per game this year in the NFL. The number one
Jacksonville has a fifteen point eight Jacksonville sixteen point eight, Chargers,

(47:46):
who I told you should be in the playoffs seventeen
points a game, Eagles eighteen point four, New England eighteen
point five. So four of the top five defenses, at
least in that spot, at least in that spot, are
playing for the right to play in the Super Bowl.
Um yards of game if you want to do yards

(48:08):
of game, Minnesota's one, Jacksonville's two, Philadelphia's three. And that's
where it gets screwy with New England. New England is
actually twenty nine. They allow a ton of yards. They
are the ultimate bend but don't break defense. But some
of it is also you have more opportunities because their
offense can really really score, right, So you're gonna get

(48:29):
more yards because you're behind and you're gonna kind of
throw it all over the yard. Right. So, like, if
you want to go offense offense, if we do the
same offensive stat number one offense in the NFL is
and points a game almost you know, the Rams. I

(48:49):
was trying to give you a little love. Yeah, except
you're like, is it the Rams? It was like it
was like when it was like when you didn't do
the homework and the teacher calls on you. Anyway, that's right.
The car New England second, Philadelphia third, Minnesota is ten,
and uh the Jacksonville Jaguars where's Jacksonville? Jackson was actually

(49:13):
fifth in this So you actually have a couple of
the best offenses a couple of the best defenses, with
some exceptions. Minnesota obviously not a prolific offense, but allowing
a point viewer a game than anybody else in the league. Uh.
It's also important to realize that Philadelphia. Most of those

(49:33):
stats were recruited when they had Carson Wentz, who would
have been the m v P of this league. But
we fall in love with the franchise quarterback, and I
believe franchise quarterbacks what they do is they stabilize you.
They don't let you the really good ones don't let
you fall below five. They just keep you in the

(49:55):
playoff mix. But the teams that are elite, you ain't
winning listing unless you got a top ten, top five defense,
and all these teams have that. Ask Aaron Rodgers how
much could he possibly do with that defense? Which is
why the Green Bay Packers are changing their defense, Dom
Kapers out and they even getting you know, kicking Ted

(50:16):
Thompson upstairs the new philosophy in order to get some
new bodies in the defensive side of the ball. Uh,
Damian Lillard's All Star candidacy, plus the the fight, the
fight to avoid mediocrity, right, I mean, that's what you're
that's what you're really fighting for when you're in the NBA.
I want to catch up with Terry Stott's upcoming As

(50:38):
conditions in the field change, so can your insurance needs.
Talk with the Farmer's agent today, so you can assess
whether your policy is game ready. Find an agent at
Farmers dot com. Farmers. What are you guys doing for
the games? Good question. I think I'm just gonna end
up watching it at home, inviting some of the guys

(51:00):
over and just hanging out that way. Some guys meaning
not us, the guys. Yeah, you guys are you know,
you guys are friends. You guys are guys fighting over
some guys. What about you? No, no, no soccer right now?
Um yeah, I don't know. That's a good question. I

(51:20):
don't know. She's an you know, my family with his
ann's family and stuff. They're not really into the Super Bowl.
They just kind of are there. You know those people
that watch the game, but they don't really care what's happening.
Do they ask bad questions? Um? No, I wouldn't say
bad questions. They don't ask any questions. They just kind
of watched the game and just kind of do stuff.
So I don't know, we'll figure something out. What about

(51:43):
you buyer super Bowl? I'll be at the Super Bowl?
No, no no, no, this weekend? Oh watching the games this weekend? Yes?
Oh yeah, yeah, I'll watch both of them. I'll be
full seven hours. I know you're gonna watch Where are
you gonna? Okay? Was he was? He? I mean, I
know there's a wall between us and stuff, but you weren't.

(52:04):
Did I? Did I surprise you when I asked you?
Dan's a busy man. Do Honestly, you only go to
me like fifty of the time when you go to
John and Ryan, So sometimes I don't know if you're
gonna go to me a little bit about that, Like,
I just you have other things you're doing. I actually was,
I actually was. I was actually doing something else. But
then I heard but I heard John then say like
they're not big into the super Bowl, So I thought

(52:25):
you were talking about the super Bowl. Okay, no problem,
no problem. No, what we were talking about is like,
what are you guys doing for the game. It feels
like I tell you what it feels like. It feels
like this weekend people will watch more because of how
last weekend ended. Is that crazy? I'm sorry, Like I
thought it was super Bowl too, That's why I answered
like that, And that was by bad. I'm like, yeah,
super Bowl, not watch music. Did I ever say super Bowl? No,

(52:48):
you were talking about this weekend. I was with you
the whole time, and then rob Us is like, yes,
Suzanne doesn't care about the super Bowl. Well, I understood
what he said, but I thought, you know, maybe this
is leading. Sorry, No, it's okay. I mean I guess
I didn't really like I I heard what you said,
but I didn't really register to me, kind of in
the same way as what I said didn't register to you. Right.

(53:11):
Um yeah, so this actually is a lot like Ryan,
what it's like to have a conversation with a teenager, right, Like, sorry, Dad,
I couldn't hear you. I was actually looking at my
phone watching YouTube doing was it party? Was it the
house party? The house party app? Whether you can like
video chat with like five people at the same time,

(53:32):
none of whom are your parents. Um yeah, I here's
how I look at it. I think more people are
going to watch this weekend because of how last weekend ended,
because they everybody wants to see something historic. Everybody wants
to see something spectacular, see something cool, right, see something surprising.

(53:55):
You're like, oh, I missed last weekend. Last week was incredible,
Like you walked to work all week all week eyes
were like at the office, Like, did you watch Senda,
it was amazing. Can you believe our good borrels? Can
you believe that in the Minnesota thinking you what were
we doing? People like screaming out out their lungs, and
now you have people like this is what I thought
you were talking about Ronald's people who don't normally care
about football, or like, you know what, I kind of

(54:16):
want to watch because something crazy might happen, which of
course means we'll have like two super boring games. Blazer's
head coach Terry Stotts joins the show up coming next,
how does he feel about how his stars are viewed
by the rest of the league, I'll ask him next.

m um. Look, there's lots of tal around the NBA

(55:00):
about some trade deadline news, right, and um kind of interesting.
What's uh, what's happened up in Portland as Uh, they've
done a great job when Damian Lillard was out of
re establishing Shabaz Napier. Napiers had an awesome year, as
has Lillard. Of course they have CJ. McCollums. So there's
there's is this thought that boy they have Uh, they

(55:22):
have a wealth of guards. Blazers said at twenty four
and twenty one in the ever competitive Western Conference. And
we're joined by the Blazers head coach Terry Stotts. He
joins us on the Doug out and Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Coach, how are you? I'm doing well, Doug,
How are you doing good? I was up in Portland
and Eugene and Corvallis the past day and a half

(55:43):
or so. I did not I flew in and I
drove right to Eugene, did my show, when saw shoot arounds,
and then when did a game? So I apologize. I
know you had a game last night against the Pacers,
but I when you come to l A, I will
buy you a cup of coffee whatever you'd like. Um,
how do you think you played? I'm sorry? How do
you think you aid? Last night? Uh? You know we
played pretty well. Um, you know, forty eight minutes is

(56:04):
you're gonna have ebbs and flows. But uh, I like
the way we finished the game in the fourth quarter.
We held Indiana the twelve points and uh made some
good players down the stretch. The third quarter was a
little a little ragged, but um, uh, it's good to
win at home. You know, we had a tough spell
earlier in the season with the home losing streets. So
we've won a few in a row at home, and

(56:25):
that's that's been encouraging. What do you account that for?
Why why the struggles at home? That's not normally, that's
not the norm in the NBA. Well, uh, you know,
when we lost six in a row, I think all
more against basically playoff teams, So I think the quality
of the opponent had something to do with it. We
lost a couple of close ones that um you know
that usually makes a difference in in your records. But uh,

(56:47):
during that stretch, we just, uh we fell flat on
a couple of games New Orleans and Washington and just
didn't pull it through. Yeah, but and then and then
you know, you go and do things like when in
Oklahoma City and and do so without Dame like that's
so it's it's it's kind of confounding to watch, like
some of the results based upon the personnel and some

(57:08):
teams like, look, you're not gonna play your starters, you're
on the road, You're gonna get beat. How do you like,
how do you handle that? Some nights you're not, Like
if you don't have Damian Lillard, and yet you go
and beat the thunder And yet there are times in
which you've had your full allotment of players and haven't
played nearly up to your potential. Well, I think you
see it across the league. Uh, this year you have
upsets like you look at New Orleans goes and beat

(57:29):
wins in Boston, then loses in Atlanta. I mean things
like that. Things like that happen. Um, everybody has injuries.
It seems like a lot of top players have been
out at one time and another, and you gotta figure
out ways to win games. And uh, sometimes you keep
playing the way you normally want to play, and sometimes
you have to make adjustments. And during the stretch that

(57:51):
Damien was out, we I think we went five and two.
And as you mentioned in the in the opening, Shabaz
Napier has been playing very well, and different guys have
stepped up. At ru Minos had some really good games
for US c J. When Dame was out, one US
a couple of games. So I think, uh, when when
one of your top players is out, like when James
Heart is out, other guys just have to rise to

(58:14):
the occasion, not necessarily doing more than what they're capable
of doing, but just doing what they are capable of.
Damian Um he voiced some of his frustration I think
with the All Star voting more more than anything. Going back,
uh to last week, you know, Chris Haynes wrote the
article I've gotten frustrated. Here's the quote. I've gotten frustrated
just the fact that feels like I've always gotten to
be the fall guy. Every other guy has been deserving.

(58:36):
So he's not calling out other people. He's just like, hey, look,
it's really hard, and why am I the guy that
doesn't make the All Star team? And and Terry, you know,
we go back to last year and he was the
guy who came out in the office season and said, Hey,
if we don't ever win a title, I'm okay with
it because what I've when we've been able to do
here how they support me, how I get to play achieving,

(58:56):
you know, trying to be better and better with you know,
if this is our lot in life, it's okay. So
it's it's kind of saying one thing and then saying
another thing. How have you handled that frustration which he's
allowed to become public about. Well, you know, the last
two years, I think he was deserving and I know
how important he was to our team that he was
very deserving and showed it. Unfortunately, he showed it even

(59:20):
more so after the All Star break when we made
good runs in the last thirty games to make the playoffs,
great comebacks, um come back in the second half last
games to to make the playoffs. Unfortunately that was after
the All Star break. Uh. But I've always I think
winning is has always been a factor in All Star voting.

(59:41):
And frankly, we didn't have the record when votes were
into we're a losing team. We're six seven games under
five hundred, and I could understand it. Now this year,
I don't think there's any question that he should be
an All Star because you know, are he's carrying our
team were three or four games over five hundred. We're
right in the mix. With a bunch of other teams,

(01:00:02):
and his numbers support that. And that's just the that's
just the the objective stuff. It's not even the subjective
things of being the leader of the team and being
the franchise player and and doing all the things that
he does too with his teammates. So I understand the frustration,
you know, to your question, I think everybody has goals

(01:00:22):
and wants to make an All Star team or whatever
whatever their goals are, and uh, there's frustration when you
don't achieve them. I guess here would be my thing.
I don't don't know. Can you sell them on? Hey,
look man, you already got your shoe right, you already
wrote well well respected. And if they want to snub you, fine,
like take the time off and actually get rested, so

(01:00:45):
you say, you kick ass the second half of the
year and then you can use it to motivate, but
you can also use it to rest because, as you know,
when you go down to that All Star thing, especially
this year, it's in l A, guys are going out,
there's all kinds of different stuff you have to do.
He has to do for Adidas, like this actually could
be a good Is there any way to spin it
to a guy who's as competitive as Damian Lillard that
it could be actually a good thing if he gets

(01:01:06):
nub Oh. Probably, but he's done that. He's been there,
done that the last two years. So why not make
the All Star team? Yeah? I got you? How do you?
I feel like you mentioned the injuries for big name players,
and obviously Kauai is still out. He's had the thigh thing,
been very limited this season. Other guys like Damien have
missed different amounts of time. I I felt like up

(01:01:27):
until a couple of weeks ago, the new schedule had
really benefits, Like the quality of play was better in
the league. Give me the sense of a guy who
played in the league and coaching the league. Do you
think there's a discernible difference or do you think there's
still the attrition of all these games and all this
travel and all the competitiveness of the league and guys
are still getting hurt. Well, first of all, UH, just

(01:01:47):
to correct, I never played in the league. So I played.
I played in the Tupper League, I played in the
c b A. But no, the the schedule, Uh, the
schedule is certainly reduced. The back to backs, to travel
has been easier, there is more rest time. I think
the league has done a very good job with that.
I think the level of play has been I think

(01:02:07):
there's a lot of I don't know if parody is
the right word, but I think there's a lot of
competitiveness out there. Um, and you know you're still gonna
have uh, you know, playoff teams non playoff teams, but
you look at the teams in the West and how
competitive that playoff really is right now, and same thing
in the East. It's uh And I can't I don't
know whether to attribute to the schedule or not, but
I do think the league uh looked at that situation

(01:02:31):
handle it really well. All right. Uh. The Blazers have
announced that Jason Quicklin it covers the team for you
guys for NBC for the local NBC comcast affiliate. Uh.
He just tweeted out that you guys are going to
you sign a consulting agreement with and former NBA ref
Down Baden, who's gonna assist player on who assist players
on rules of the game, points of emphasis, and analyzing

(01:02:52):
officiating data from the NBA. There's been a lot of
talk that the officials are different in how they handle
the players, and that's what's caused uh kind of a
riff between the plate current players and the officials. Some
of these younger refs have a little bit more confidence
and calling technical fouls and how they call a game.
Do you notice that or is that just players being
a little bit more sensitive? I think, uh, throughout time

(01:03:17):
that there's uh, you know, the player referee relationship has
evolved just a lot of I think a lot of
the conflict, um might even be socially. Uh go to
our society where everybody has a voice and can free
to express their opinion, and everybody's looking for blame and
everything is out uh out there for public consumption. So

(01:03:41):
I think that's part of it. But I certainly don't.
I think it's a two way street, players and referees,
the relationship. Anytime you have relationships, it goes both ways.
I think the player's interaction with the referees and vice versa. UM,
I don't know how contentious it is. I just know
that uh that there. Okay, it's more, it's more noticeable

(01:04:02):
because of media and social media. I think just that
there's more when things happen, everybody knows about it, so
I don't know how much has changed. I know years ago,
players and referee still got into it. It just wasn't
on Sports Center. Do you guys have a backdoor entrance
into your locker room in Portland? We do not know?

(01:04:23):
Nobody is breaching our locker room? Is that? Is that?
Have you seen or heard of anything like that? Again?
Like that? That's I guess my question. Um, Like, let
me ask you this is were any referees involved in
that breach? No? No, no, But I'm just I'm I'm
asking more for again for your your vast experience in
the league. Um, like, this does seem like kind of

(01:04:46):
cb A stuff though, right like I was in the
I B A, the A B A. I got my
last game in France. I'm actually suspended six games if
I ever go back to France and play because there
was a fight like it it does. I know that
guys say meet me outside, but Jen only guys don't
meet them outside when it's in the NBA. But like
you've been in this league for a long time. Um,
is this more normal and just being reported or is

(01:05:09):
something like what happened in l A different than the past. Well,
I don't, uh, certainly as you mentioned, I think, uh
scuffles in the hallway, UH postgame account encounters. I know
back I don't know how many years ago when uh Portland's,
Portland's was leaving Golden State and they're being chased by
a player. And you know, so there have been player

(01:05:32):
player issues throughout the years. Um, but I've never, like
I said, since I've been here, there there have been
those those conflicts, but no one has actually entered an
opposing locker room that I'm aware of. Um. Okay, So look,
I read the Oregonian. Um, I know that there's a
great passion for you guys to take kind of that

(01:05:54):
next step. What are your thoughts on your roster and
whether or not this will be the roster that you
had into the playoffs with? Well, I you know, I'm
not going to comment on any trade rumors. I'm the coach,
and I I like our roster, and I think we
have gotten better at our first forty games. First four games,
we struggled offensively, which I didn't think would be a

(01:06:15):
concern for us, and our defense was pretty solid, which
was what our goal was. But I anticipate coach in
this team, and you know, you never say never as
far as roster management, and Neil o'sha has done a
great job with the roster and I'm I'm happy with it,
and I'm I'm glad that we're we're going in the
right direction. So um, I think that's the best way

(01:06:36):
for me to answer. That means that that's the fairest
way you can possibly answered. Listen, really appreciate you join this.
I've listened. If I were you, though, somebody said I
played in the NBA and I'd only played in the
c b A, I would have just taken it. I mean,
who's gonna know, right, But you know what, yah, I
can't you know? Then then I would get criticized for,
you know, endorsing something that wasn't true, and I, in

(01:06:56):
good conscience, I could not do that. You never got
a tend No, that was my goal, you know, playing
in Great Falls, Montana for three years all I wanted,
That's all I wanted. You couldn't get it. You couldn't
get in. You couldn't get it. Man, But how about
the Big Twelve? But how about the Big Twelve this year?
Pretty amazing they're gonna get are They're gonna get nine
teams in the in the tournament. I don't think nine.

(01:07:16):
I think it's gonna end up being more in the
seven variety. Um. Oklahom States surprising in what they've done.
Uh not TCU lost to point guard Jalen Fisher. Uh
for people don't know Terry was very good player at Oklahoma.
Have you seen have you seen Trey Young play it?
I have you know? Do two rules? I can't comment
on individual players, but perhaps seen Oklahoma play and I
enjoy watching them play. Yeah, I mean, and the Steph

(01:07:39):
curiization of basketball is pretty obvious. Man, I know you
can't talk about it, but but like they're not the same,
but gosh, there's some similar the shots that he takes
in the way in which he plays, like oh my gosh.
And frankly, Damon Lilliard, Damian lillardization. You know, just how
the floor Like did I do? Do you do you think?
Do we do a good enough job in the media

(01:07:59):
of understanding how the game has evolved? Like we just
I think people just say, well, they shoot more threes,
But but it's not like this. Everything about the game
is so vastly different in the last ten years. It's
really hard to explain. And I don't think we do
a good enough job of it when we broadcast. Is
that is that fair? I would I would say that's fair.
You know. I don't watch a lot of college games,

(01:08:19):
but but even the pro but the pro game, like
the space of the pro game is amazing, how different.
And it's when you talk about just getting threes, it's
how you get those threes, you know, and people say
going inside out with the post. Well now it's inside
out with penetration and uh taking a quick three in transition,
which people have never thought about doing. And you know,
if anybody would look back at uh, you know, pick

(01:08:41):
and roll, how that's evolved because in the eighties there
were if you look at those old games on NBA
TV from the eighties, there weren't picking rolls. There's a
lot of movement, a lot of running. But the game
certainly has evolved, and I think personally for the better
because I think it's, uh, it's more of a skill game. Yep,
you were That's the whole things. You were born too soon,

(01:09:02):
right and you would you'd be a power forward now,
right like instead of trying to be a three, you'd
be a four and and you'd get get in the
green light and playing your system. Just stand out there
in the corner and have guys dime you up and
hit three. Terry, thanks so much for joining us. Next
time in Portland, I'll stop in or in l A.
I'll buy you a cup of coffee. All right, sounds good?
Always a pleasure, Thanks Terry. Terry Stotts joining us, old

(01:09:25):
Big eight guy playing at Oh you um he played
for John McCloud, who, of course I played for at No.
No trud Dame Terry Stotts in the dug Gotlip Show.
Some really good political answers there right, very good, God,
that's good. I just I you know, I couldn't resist.
I would have talked about Trey Young. I would have
killed the officials as conditions on the field chains soaking

(01:09:50):
your insurance needs. Talking with the farmer's agent today and
you can assess whether your policy is game ready. Find
an agent at farmers dot com. Farmers Dan buyer can
talk about very Young, but he has a whole bunch
of other stories that we are not going to interrupt him.
We're gonna allow him to do his job. What he got. Well,
we've got some news from New England. Yes, Tom Brady
officially listed as questionable for the a f C Championship

(01:10:13):
game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Patriots quarterback met the
media today with gloves on both hands. Spoke for about
four minutes or so, and it sounded a little like this,
you're managing an injury. Is that more of a functionality
of holding, gripping, throwing, or is in pain manage room
whenever you've dealt with injury in the past. They're all different.

(01:10:34):
Short answers from Brady. Who expects or we expect him
to be on the field Sunday, But again the Patriots
have him listed as questionable. There's reports out of Boston
is saying that Brady suffered a cut on his hand
Wednesday in practice that required four stitches. Nothing official from
the Patriots. They get the Jaguars Sunday at three or
five Eastern time. Vikings have a couple of key players

(01:10:55):
questionable for their NFC Championship matchup against the Eagles. You'll
see it on Fox at six forty Eastern time on Sunday.
Wide receiver Adam Feeling is questionable because of his back injury.
Safety Andrews and Dajo had the concussion. He is listed
as questionable for the NFC title Game. An NFL investigation
show the Raiders did follow the Rooney rule when they

(01:11:15):
heired John Gruden as their new head coach. Jets wide
receiver Robby Anderson arrested in Florida today a nine charges,
including fleeing an officer and causing harm to a public
servant and their family member. Anderson was reportedly clocked on
five miles per hour in at here's here's where I
know you're a broadcasting professional. Can you relate? Can you? Um? Uh?

(01:11:42):
Can you? Can you in some way find a way
to quote what he was alleged to have said to
an officer without getting yourself fired. I could say that, um,
it's very difficult because it was very very believable, what
very yes it was. That is a chance you have

(01:12:08):
my microphone? There you go, there you go. That's that's
what you've got. There would be there would be a
good eight seconds of pauses that we have to, uh
to take out for what Robbie Anderson said to the
to the office. I would here's what I would encourage
the listener to, dude, don't don't turn us off, but
to google Robbie Anderson police officer, and you'll go like

(01:12:31):
he said, what like just the idea you think you
could say that to any human being, well, let alone
a police officer who pulled you over for going one
oh five in It wasn't like he pulled you over
for going like forty five, which you like your your
ticktof You're like, why did you pull me over? Right?
Or you know, like you run bluetooth and the bluetooth

(01:12:53):
wasn't working and you're doing the speaker phone thing. You're
holding your hand and the guys like, you're like, why
would you pull me over? Like, well, you're holding your
phone like, yeah, I'm on speaker phone. I apologize, but
I didn't want to hang up the conversation. My Bluetooth
wasn't working. No, he was going sixty miles an hour
or so over the speed limit, so he was guilty.
Guilty is charged, gets pulled over and then wait to

(01:13:13):
hear what he said. Uh, Dan Buyers read what he said,
Dan Buyer's gonna repeat exactly what he's Dan Buyer wants
his job so he won't be repeating what Robby Anderson said.
Brandon ingram game time decision tonight for the Lakers, Lonzo
ball out against the pay Through Pacers, both dealing with
ankle injuries. Yeah, take the take the pacers and not

(01:13:34):
pacers plan on back to backs, But no Alonzo and
no brandon ingram Um. That's a that's a no bueno,
no bueno, no bueno music. Do you want to take
a shot at what Robbie Anderson said? You know what, Doug,
I'm gonna go ahead and pass. Have you ever said

(01:13:55):
that to anybody? I have not. It the kind of
thing that is so crass. It's the kind of thing
that's so crass if you were joking around, if there's
you have probably one buddy who might have joked around
and said that about your sister, right, and if you
said about your sister, you probably wanted to fight him.

(01:14:18):
And like even if it was so crash that, uh,
this is not reported, but I'm reporting it that there
were mechanics that dropped their wrenches because even they were
offended by it. Right, You're like, he said, what once?
You love a bigger tax refund. Tax Layer was recently

(01:15:00):
I experienced Doug Gottli Show, Fox Sports Radio. Thanks to
Terry Stotts, you missed any of that conversation. Here's the
problem with Terry. Terry always wants to talk about the
Big Twelve every time I have him on right, I've
have him on three different networks. The problem with it
is he can actually talk about the Big twelve because
he can't talk about players like man, how about the
Big twelve. It's great, let's talk about Trey Young. I can't.

(01:15:22):
I'm a head coach in the NBA. It's kind of
that kind of not like cool, Terry. You guys gonna
trade your bass napier. I can't talk about that, you know. Anyway?
I love that they're bringing in the raft to go,
like all right, so look, this guy hates you. This
guy doesn't hate you that much. This guy thinks you weird.

(01:15:45):
Say something about this guy's mother, and he's gonna see you.
And now every day at this time, we try and
play you. A portion of a previous show on Fox
Sports One or Fox Sports Radio. Chris Carter. It's on
a show called First Things First, he nick write Jenna Wolf.
It's on sixty nine a m. Eastern time on Sirious

(01:16:07):
XM eight three and Fox Sports one. He had this
to say about quarterback play in the NFC channel. Not
only is Case going there trying to win an NFC
Patrick Pat Summers trying to go back there and send
the Massachu because he he has history in Philadelphia. I
think he has the Giants job. So I believe that
his ability to develop quarterbacks is very important. He's gonna

(01:16:28):
get Case to play an aggressive style. They have a
very good defense, and he has enough tape to be
able to trust Case. That's the big difference. If you
ask me who's the better quarterback in this game, Case
Keenum is a better quarterback right now then Nick Foles is.
So I'm less concerned about the Case because he has
a style Nick Foles is trying not to lose the

(01:16:49):
Eagles the game, I can I tend to think that's
that's accurate. Like my issue is that, look, each guy
has a has two notable flaws, right case, let's start
with case keenum case keenum verse. He's tiny and doesn't
have a great arm I think we all kind of
know that, right and I Rama's you know that probably

(01:17:10):
better than anybody because you're a Rams fan. And even
though that offense is limited, the offense did expose that,
especially outside. If you thought arm strength was an issue
last week's inside, in the cold weather of Philadelphia, it's
going to be a bigger issue. So lack of size
and arm strength is a problem. But the other problem
is that he does kind of have a little bit

(01:17:32):
of a gun slinger mentality there, right, Like he's the
guy with a bad arm that doesn't know he has
a bad arm um. On the other side, on the
other side, you have Nick Foles, who does have a
good arm um and is a pretty good athlete, but
he's he was flit into an offense to which the

(01:17:53):
starting quarterback is a much better athlete. He is square
peg into roundhold. They've had to adjust things too. Now
his problem is the opposite. He doesn't really have confidence,
like he lacks this when things go bad, he kind
of goes into a shell and and they got to
kind of play around him, so they kind of have
He actually has a much better arm He's a much

(01:18:14):
better pure pocket quarterback because of his size and his
arm strength than case Keenum is. But he's the guy
with the arm but not a great quarterback, not mobile,
and knows his own limitations but then allows himself to
mentally be limited by it. That makes sense, So I agree,
and I kind of disagree. Here's a crazy thought that

(01:18:37):
no one has brought up that I was thinking about
driving in today. Who's the backup quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Like,
the best quarterback who's available this weekend in Philadelphia is
Sam Bradford. And like, look, you may not like Sam

(01:18:57):
Bradford because he got fifty million dollars out of college
at Oklahoma. You may not like Sam Bradford because once
they drafted Carson Wentz, he saw the handwriting on the
wall and said, hey, check please, I'd like to get
out of here. You may not like Sam Bradford because
after the first week of the season this year, you're
all in and his knee, he's got a bone spur
and is and he's probably just not right. But Sam

(01:19:20):
Bradford can throw that ball. And if you've ever like look,
part of the Vikings thing is so many guys that
they've had have been haven't been well regarded. I don't
want case Keen to fail. But if God forbid something
happened to Case Keenum, I can't imagine what an incredible
moment it might be for Sam Bradford, who was less
than beloved by Philadelphia Eagles fans, to come in there

(01:19:44):
and lead a team to an NFC Championship game. If
I had to rank quarterbacks at the NFC Championship Game,
I would go in order Bradford one, Keenam two folds three.
Does anybody know who the backup for the Eagles is?
Do you guys remember? I want to take a shot
at Ramo's. No, I'm not gonna take a shot because

(01:20:05):
I don't know, and I don't want to just throught names.
The only reason I know is because he got he
got a he got like he got a rousing ovation
when he came in Week seventeen. Buyer knows this buyer
go Nate Sudfeldt. Yep, yeah, we both have. We actually
are we have Nate Sudfeld as our backup quarterback and
fantasy football. I'm in a forty team two quarterback league.

(01:20:28):
If Nate Sudfeld was sitting right here next to us,
would any of us know who he was? But his
name is actually his nick name is Cooper, Cooper Cooper.
The one thing you know about Nate Sudtfeldt, there's no
black guy named Nate Suddfeld Right, Am? I wrong? They're right?

(01:20:50):
Like that's a all right, He's a white guy. He's
got brown hair. How did I do? I mean, look
the with the uh, with the you have Nate Subtel
played at Indiana at Indiana as conditions on the field change,

(01:21:13):
So can your insurance needs? Talk with the Farmers agent
today so you can assess with your policy. Is game ready?
Find an agent at Farmers dot com. I was taking
a leak yet last night halftime calling the Oregan State
u c L A game, and a guy came up
and goes, they got the listen you on next m
and then I switch over to the I Heart app
for the third hour. So there you go. Somebody knows

(01:21:36):
that third hour exists. Of course, all you with our
trust store radio aphiliates don't exist if you're on serious
exam flip over do the flipover thing. Coming up next,
Brady Quinn will join the show. I'll ask him about
the two backups who are trying, who are starters trying
to lead their teams to the Super Bowl? What do
they have to do to get to Football's ultimate game?

(01:21:56):
Ready Quinn? Next in the Doug Gotlop Show, Box Sports Radio.
What up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio? Can I
be the bad guy here? I'm gonna be. I'm gonna
say something that's gonna depress you. You're like d G.
I turn you on every afternoon. You're supposed to make
me excited, make me, uh look forward to the weekend

(01:22:21):
in sports? Made you feel good about my sports fandom? Okay, sorry,
but I'm gonna tell you something. Three. You know that
number signifies ramas. You know the number three signifies for
you are just in general in general, it's a sports

(01:22:42):
sports number, sports number sports three. How many teams? Yeah,
I don't know. Another stupid music music on the number
of NFL games remaining this year's football games. You got
three game tame is left to what three times? Three
times left to watch football? Right? That's kind of depressing, right, Like, man,

(01:23:06):
I went fast, Like after this Sunday, there's one more
football game you get to watch until late next late August,
and you'll see college football. And don't give me spring
football or arena football. Stop it. Already three games left.
Let's make the most of it. Let's get some analysis,
but not paralysis by analysis. A guy who knows, a

(01:23:29):
guy who played, and a guy who can give us
a real sense of things. Brady Quinn, We're not gonna
mourn the fact we only have three more football games left.
Brady Y, you're forgetting a very influential game. Stop Bowl?
Have you? This is honest question. We were talking about
the NBA All Star Game today on TV. Do you
have you ever when was the last time you watched
the Pro Bowl? Do you watch it? I do not.

(01:23:51):
It's uh, it's it's awful to watch. To be honest
with you, you know, I don't watch to look, I'm
a basketball guy. I don't watch the NBA All Star Game.
It's allfu to watch Major League base Ball. It's kind
of got the best pomp and basketball should be the
best because you actually could play hard and not get
hurt as opposed to football, like you just why would
you put yourself in harm's way? But they don't, so
we can't legitimately consider there's three legit football games left.

(01:24:14):
It's crazy, That's that's true. Um I when you see
keenum and fools run out there, there's gotta be two
things that go through your mind. Brady Quinn joining us right,
one of the two things. There's one of these two
things are going through your mind and maybe both. One
is damn that should have been me? Right? If I'm you,
I'm if I'm Brady Quinn, I'm like, shouldn't me? Should
just stay in the league, just stay ready. I would

(01:24:37):
bit of backup the right job at the right time,
the right coach that could be me or two. Man,
I'm really rooting for these guys because they're both backups.
They're both guys who have been starters and gotten that
starting job pulled from him, and I really want them
to play in the ultimate game, which is the truest
link to your emotions. Uh, that's so soft to answer,
because because honest, I'm it's it's a little bit of both,

(01:24:58):
and I think I feel like so fortunate to be
in the position I'm in I'm in now doing broadcasting,
that it's kind of more of the second at this point.
If you would asking that question, you know, maybe two
years ago, there's no doubt about it, it would have
been the first one, like like wishing I had, you know,
wishing things would have went differently. I mean part of
those health too, Like I don't know that my back

(01:25:19):
could have ever held up. I mean, that was one
of the things I stopped getting with reality. Okay, you're
you're an athlete, We're not realistic, Okay, like you. But
in all honestly, I think I think two years ago
would have been one. You know, this year it's it's
probably more too, it's probably more just kind of cool
to see it actually happened right Like I was in
that position and you dreamt about it and you hope

(01:25:41):
for that opportunity and and then it never really comes.
But for like case Keenum and for Nick Foles, it
actually happened right like it's pretty neat. And and the
fact that it's it's happening in the NFC Championship game
with the chance for both these guys to go to
the Super Bowl or one of them is gonna go.
I mean, it's it's it's pretty incredible, and you have
to think about their path to right. I mean, Kate

(01:26:01):
Keene was undrafted free agent. He honestly was kind of
a wild card and if he would even make it
as a backup. I mean, Nick Foles was at least
drafted where he's the third round pick, and he had
the size and the dropback of buildy people talked about
in Arizona, so people thought he could eventually one day
develop into a starter, and after sales, a lot of
people thought he would be. I mean, Jeff Fisher thought
he would be when he tread for him to St. Louis.

(01:26:23):
But you know, he ended up not working out, but
he's continued to kind of keep the faith and now
he stopped himself in this position. Um, okay, so here's
how I kind of pitched both quarterbacks. You tell me
mutant uh Britty Quinn joining his son the Doug Got
Leap Show. Okay, So I look at it as uh
Keenum has a lot more confidence, but he lacks kind
of the art, not just the size but also the

(01:26:45):
arm strength, whereas Foals. It feels like he's playing in
an offense or until you know, they changed some things
in the second half, uh and in that week off.
But Foles is playing an offense that he's not terribly
confident in. But he does actually have, you know, the
number one skill needed, the ability to actually throw a football,
especially in cold weather, but he he lacks that. Like

(01:27:06):
the flaw to two Keenum is he might actually have
too much confidence for his lack of arm strength, whereas
Fulls lacks confidence even though he does have skills, but
that skill doesn't set their offense. Is that those fair? Yeah?
I think they're fair. I mean it's kind of polar opposites, right,
You're talking about Fulls, who has the size, has the
physical ability. It just comes down to, you know, his comfort.

(01:27:28):
This offense really more geared towards Carson Wentz and he's
just kind of sitting in right, and he's still trying
to get that chemistry with everyone else that you know,
he didn't practice with mostly probably in training camp and
in preseason and obviously until the latter part of the season.
I can assure you you know, Carson Wentz was taking
all the reps with Tory Smith and Alshon, Jeffrey and
zach Ertz. You know, now it's been Nick Foles for

(01:27:48):
a number of weeks, and you know, for whatever reason,
like people think like, oh, well, he's an NFL quarterback,
or he should be able to like get on the
same page him immediately. That's just not how it works,
you know, Like like it's like driving a car and
constantly being able to make split second decisions where you
avoid crashes all the time. I mean, that's what it's
like playing quarterback. You you're making decisions in seconds and

(01:28:12):
literally depending on what you do and how you anticipate,
where you throw the football, where your eyes are, where
your feet are, and all that. That, all those little
things out up and it terms the outcome of of
a play. Um. So for fulls, he's he's got all
those abilities. But to your point, it's just an offense
that you know, I think Doug Peterson is doing the
best he can to work it around his skill set.
That's why you saw some those like r P O s,

(01:28:34):
the run pass options that you saw on Chip Kelly's
offense when he was running in two thousand thirteen. You
saw some of that against Atlanta. I'm sure you're gonna
see more of it against the Vikings. And for Keenum,
you know, I think sometimes you know, he feels like
he has that confidence, like if you saw m Houston
coming into the NFL, he's been that player. But the
differences he's got a defense that give him the football back.

(01:28:55):
Like that's something that's pretty powerful to have as a quarterback.
You can go out there and take risks and throw
the football up and to see you when the root
off or whoever it is, digs and you could take
those risks because you've got that defense on your sideline
that can they have got your back. They're gonna get
it three and out or they're gonna get it turned
over and they're gonna get you the football right back.
So even though he made lack some of those those

(01:29:16):
physical skills that fools has, there's no doubt he's playing
with a lot of confidence and in this offense is
built around what case Kingdom excels at. Okay, so it
sounds in your voice it sounds like you like the Vikings. Yes,
but slightly. I mean, I'm not one of those guys
who thinks, um, this is gonna be a runaway by
any means I would not be shocked or surprised at all.

(01:29:37):
Assilly ended up winning, and I think it's largely because
of how good that defensive front played a week ago,
ver some very talented team and the Atlanta Falcons. I mean,
if you're gonna compare of rosters, right, the Atlanta Falcons
roster on paper is probably as good as anyone in
the NFL, and they just had a disappointing season. Things
never really click on offense. Defensively, I thought, you know,

(01:29:59):
they wouldn't do enough to get off the field to
give up too many field goals to Philly, and Philly utilized.
Don't feel advantage. Um. But now they've got a Minnesota
team coming in that their defense is no doubt playing better. Um.
But you look at the offense and you know, I
give him an opportunity to kind of shut down case
gave him the Vikings offense. I'll be kind of curious
to see what past Stimmer can come up with, you know,

(01:30:20):
to see how, you know, how much production they can
really have them. This is probably gonna be a low
scoring game. I think, you know, there's a lot of
people who would be surprised by that, But I do
think the Vikings. In the end, we'll be able to
find a way of edging one out. All right, let's
go to the paths taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars. I
think what Bordles has gotten that again, And this is
like just kind of honestly like, look, as a as

(01:30:41):
a guy, I didn't make the NBA, but I wish
I would have. Everybody wishes they were drafted and then
given the opportunity to fail and then fail some more
than ultimately figure it out. And and and maybe this
was his last chance, and they took so much of
the pressure off him. But he did play well in
some really important downs last week. They'd didn't have a
three and out. They have a three that's why Pittsburgh

(01:31:03):
kicked the on side kick. Whenever you think of that decision,
they have a three and out. So he did play
well enough, and obviously the offensive line the running game
really really helped him. What are your thoughts though on
the overall level of confidence in Blake Bortles in the
game of this magnitude. I just think it's tough to
do what he's gonna you're gonna try to do, and
and that's really it's kind of out of his DNA

(01:31:24):
and let's not turned the football over and I make
that mistake. UM, and he hasn't done it so far. Right,
Like up to this point you talked about, you know,
third downs. I mean, they didn't have a negative play
versus Pittsburgh, and they ran like sixty plays or something
like that. The only negative play they had was a nil,
Like that was the only thing. So it was also
it was him, but it was like the entire offense

(01:31:44):
and the offensive line, you know, really rerepplying at a
high level and probably not getting enough credit for how
well they they played. UM. But in the end, like
this is this is exactly why New England's New England,
Like they get home field advantage. They forced you to
come to Foxborough and you end up making one or
two mistakes ended up being the difference in the ball game.
Because they're playing at home. They've got everything to their advantage.

(01:32:06):
And I gotta tell you from from being in that
stadium before, it's funny how all of a sudden the
headsets sometimes go out and third down and you have
some of those issues with communications, the sideline that long
one st long one second at the end of the
first half, last week. You're like, wait, that was like
three seconds and the clocked in movie like it's New England.
Of course it does. Here's here's the thing though, like
that clock operator actually is hired by the NFL. Think

(01:32:30):
but like but but look, those things happen for whatever reason,
and I just I don't trust that Blake Bortles will
be able to play a clean game, not turn the
football over and be able to score enough UM to
allow them to stay in the football game. Their defense
is amazing. Their defense is gonna have to be special
again and score. You know. I don't know if it's
a pig six or a fumble return something like that,

(01:32:52):
which is something that the Patriots just just just don't
do um. But they're gonna have to do something like that.
In my mind, I think to be able to win
this game. I do again think it will be close, though,
like I don't think, especially with Tom Brady's hand and
not really knowing what the status is of that, supposedly
you think this game would be close. Supposedly it's a knuckle.
They hit a knuckle on one of the screws, and

(01:33:13):
there's a lot of blood. But then he threw he
throwing the ball fine, So he had a couple of stitches,
but it was on the knuckle. It was not on
not in any of the kind of the webbing of
the hand, not in the palm, not something like that.
And like my concern with that is, I mean, I've
I've broke my right and next thing before I have
tins put in and end up having the missed six
weeks and missed the rest of the season. What alfin
Cleveland hit it off a helmet on Monday night football,

(01:33:34):
um and and you know try to play the following week,
but you know, couldn't be effective really feeling the football
off my finger because the bona shadow the liiglands ripped off,
so it wasn't like I could really use that digit,
which is kind of important. And I think when it's
cold outside, and if there's a little bit of wind,
like last time I looked at the weather report, supposed
to be like tween ten and fifteen mile winds, that's

(01:33:55):
not too bad. But when you combine the sack that
it's cold so you can't feel your hand as much,
which typically your grip isn't as good. Then you combine
it with the wind, and if you've got some pain
in it too, like all those things that up where
it can affect your downfield throng, it can affect your
accuracy and just your ability to spin the football, and
that's big, that's really key, especially when you're playing in

(01:34:15):
somewhat of a windy conditions. You want the ball to
spencing cut through the wind and it's not just knocking
the football down. So all kind he's curious to see
how you know, the game goes early on and then
saying if if he's affected by it at all, or
if it's just one of those storylines we hear of
New England before a big game. It's fascinating stuff. Last thing,
um Levy on Bell the story out of Pittsburgh is

(01:34:36):
that in addition to one new contract and sitting out
and he's had you know, some injuries and suspension before
with weed Um, he he was late to almost all,
missed almost all of the walk through the day before
and would consistently show up late to games. Was asked
and they you know, Mike tom likes some two hours.
There are two hours before the game. He gets there

(01:34:57):
an hour before the game. You've been in a bunch
of NFL locker rooms, how par for the course. Is
this for from star players? Uh? Not not very part
for the course. I mean, to be quite honest with you,
you know, most professionals wouldn't dare show up an hour before.
I mean, you're you're doing team warm ups by then,
I mean legitimately, like two hours before. Typically you're out there,
you know, with your wide receivers or guys kind of

(01:35:19):
going through some light routes things like that. Maybe Todd
ends you're doing some works to your body warmed up,
talk to your coaches over some final game plan adjustments,
looking at who's scratched, who's active, who's not. I mean,
all those things are important to the game plan. An
hour before, guys are in pads, are literally walking out
to start going through their you know, team warm ups
and and you know, handing the football off seven on

(01:35:39):
seven routes on air like all those things. So it's
it's kind of stocking to think that, like that's how
he would go about approaching things. One, because the team
was trying to play for a Super Bowl. I mean
they're working, they were trying to work their way to
an FHC championship, you know. Two, he's kind of in
i won't say a contract year, but he's playing under
the tag they they can tag him again. He's kind
of helpless against that, like the whole idea. You know

(01:36:00):
that he's gonna retire in the prime of his career
and try to sit out. I mean, unfortunately for him
that the Pittsburgh Steelers, they've got his rights, so they're
not just gonna give him up for nothing, so big
at tagg him in and trade him. But he's not
helping himself then, because now I want to trade for that.
As talented as he is, maybe there'll be a suitor
out there, someone who's gonna get something up for him.

(01:36:20):
But if you're that team, why would you want to
sign it to a long term deal or lucrative contract
like he's looking for because he's not been able to
prove himself to be a pro as talented as he is.
You know, again, maybe someone takes that risk, but it's
a big risk to take when you don't know how
this guy is gonna be able to transition. It's a
point from your team, Brady, great stuff man, really really
good stuff. Enjoy the last full weekend of of a

(01:36:41):
double header, and then we got one more game afterwards.

(01:38:33):
in Eric Mangini, former head coach Cleveland Brown's New York Jets,
longtime assistant New England Patriots. Of course you'll see him
on Fox Sports covering the National Football League. Um, Eric,
let's start with with Brady's hand. You know everything that
goes on in New England. We're we're hearing uh that
it was a knuckle, the right knuckle hit a helmet,

(01:38:53):
maybe the screw uh that you know, screws in somebody's
face mask, whatever. There's a lot of blood, some stitches,
but it was the outside of the hand. He's wearing
gloves today at the press conference. Uh, what's your thoughts
and the likehood it affects Tom Brady this Sunday, Well,
it's it's pretty amazing to me that he hit his
hand on on anybody's helmet. One of the things that
we start on from the O t A S the earliest,

(01:39:17):
the earliest time that were on the field is to
always stay away from the quarterback. I mean that's preached
over and over and over again, but it did. In
terms of how much it's gonna affect him, Um, you know,
I think it's gonna be something that that's annoying to
him throughout the course of the game. I'd say that
he's probably gonna be frustrated by the fact that he

(01:39:39):
had the misreps during the week that that he normally
would have taken so that he didn't aggravate it. I
don't think it will be the difference in the game
by any stretch, but I think it will be one
of those annoying thays that that he's just gonna have
to work through from a pain perspective. Early. All right,
let's get to uh, let's get to the game itself.

(01:39:59):
Um like those of us Layman out there, Eric, we
sit there and go all right, well, Brady just forced
him off the spot, right, like force him to move.
He's different. That's what Atlanta did in the Super Bowl
in the first half. That that's what Miami did when
you didn't have Rob Gronkowski, like be physical because they're
they're now kind of like the Colts used to be
a lot of timing based stuff, right, be physical and
forced them on the spot. I know it's a simplistic

(01:40:20):
way of looking at it in terms of all the
schematics of the NFL. But does Jacksonville have Is that
their style? Because because what the Giants were able to
do to the Patriots twice the Super Bowl, that's what
the Giants have always done. Is that how the Jaguars play? Well, yes,
yes it is. And when when you look at this,
you look at the front that that Jacksonville has may
are able to get to the quarterback with four which

(01:40:42):
is a key thing when you're playing in New England
because blitzing really isn't isn't a very effective path to Tom.
And then they've got linebackers that can run. That helps too.
They've got quarters outside that can match up. Now, all
those things are are great for Jacksonville, but they they're
do what a do type team, which which is also good.

(01:41:03):
And there's that simplicity to it, so guys know what
they're doing. They can play fast. That that's great until
you run into a team that can figure out something
to do against you that works, and and New England
will and and the question is what's Jacksonville's second pitch?
And I don't see that. I don't see how they're
gonna be able to deal with the inside part of

(01:41:26):
the field that New England is able to exploit so effectively,
between the slot receiver and Grondkowski. That to me is
going to be an issue. The other thing about in
New England is they take what you give them. So
if you're gonna give them a bunch of hitches, they'll
take them, and they'll they'll take them all day. Then
they put pressure on you this no huddle and and
catch you in things. And then once they catch you

(01:41:48):
in something, they just keep hitting you, They keep going
after you. And I'm not sure if if Jacksonville is
gonna be able to handle handle all those things, that
New England is going to be able to attack them.
With idea of putting Jalen Ramsey on drunk, I don't
think it's I don't think it's what they do. I
think it'll it would probably be controductive. You see that

(01:42:09):
happens sometimes in the postseason, Doug, where teams change and
they want to they want to incorporate new schemes. But
it's not something that guys are used to doing throughout
the course of the season. And so when you when
you try to go to that, they can't figure out adjustments.
They can't figure out where they're supposed to fit in
the running game. You know, maybe on obvious passing downs

(01:42:30):
where you're you know, third down, you know that they've
they've got to throw the ball. You could go and
get that matchup. But to do it down and down
out against multiple personnel groups probably too hard for him
at this point. Okay, Uh, look, Jacksonville, they obviously want
to protect borders and buy protect him. I don't mean
just block form. I mean they want to protect him

(01:42:51):
from himself from the big mistake, but he did make
some big throws. My thing is though, that like, look,
we have enough data on Blake Borrows to know who
he is and to know that we don't have a
ton of confidence. And I kind of think, like, if
you go by points allowed, New England's fifth in points
allowed in the NFL, their number one since I think
Week five, like the defense is actually pretty good. They

(01:43:13):
allow a lot of yards, but they're also on the
field a lot of snaps. Um. It seems to me
that we're trying, we want so badly to change who
Blake Bortles is, Like he's a below average quarterback? Is
he not? Well? I imagine going into the game, New
England is not gonna let the running game beat him,
so they're gonna handle for net. Now. The second part
of this running game is Bortles, and that's that's where

(01:43:35):
he's He's actually heard a lot of teams and been
able to sustain drives is with his feet. But if
you can force him to win the game and then
force him to win the game in obvious passing situations,
he was really effective last week because they were able
to run the ball off running the ball. They're able
to hit the play action, they were able to move

(01:43:55):
the pocket. They're able to do a lot of things
on their terms. I don't think you're going to see
the missed fits that you saw with Pittsburgh in the
running game, where these huge holes for for net to
run through. New England's gonna take that stuff away in it.
Then you're right, they're gonna say, okay, can you beat
us with Blake Bortles as a true passer? Um, you

(01:44:18):
hear about the stuff out of Pittsburgh, and how do
you mean, Like, how do you handle it? Like? I
know that every every you know fans like, well, just
get rid of Levian Bell. He wants to show up
an hour before games and miss miss most to walk through.
You get rid of him. On the other hand, he's super,
super talented, right, you can't let him walk Like, how
do you how do you handle Levian Bell? If you're
the Steelers. The look, that's an ongoing problem that every

(01:44:41):
team faces, and you face that problem when you draft
guys that have an extremely high amount of talent and
can produce on Sunday in a in a significant way.
But then there's a bunch of other issues that you
have to deal with to get him to Sunday or
to get him to the next season, and organizationally, you
just ask a question whether or not it's worth it. UM. Typically,

(01:45:06):
when you pay those guys and you give them a
lot of guaranteed money and long term contracts, those situations
don't get better, they get worse because you have less
leverage as an organization. So collectively, you've got to make
a decision. Is this something we're willing to deal with?
Is there anything that we can put in the contract

(01:45:27):
to two help protect the downside? But once you start
paying guys at the levels that that he's going to
get paid at, or any superstar gets paid at, the
fines don't really they aren't that big of a stick anymore.
And you've got to deal with the issue. And it's
it's whether or not you want to Eric Mangini joining

(01:45:48):
us in the doug Out Lip Show, Let's go to
the NFC. UM look Folds is limited, but they hided
they hid some of those limitations last week as best
they could and be a good Falcon's team at home. UM.
You know, Keenum is limited, but he's got some talent,
a wide receiver. I guess some of it is, you know,
limiting him from trying to do something he can't do.
What are your thoughts in the quarterback matchup in the

(01:46:10):
NFC Championship Game, Well, I think Foles is going to
have a harder time. Minnesota's defenses is really good and
they're able to do a lot of different things. They
do a nice job of disguising pressures. They're able to
play man and man really effectively. You got three number

(01:46:31):
one draft picks in the secondary. They can match up,
you know, from from that perspective, and then they do
a nice job in his own defense as well. The
key thing for from Minnesota is to be able to
disrupt the timing and the spacing of of Philly's routes.
That's what they want to do. They want to get
guys to spots they wanted to be on time, and

(01:46:52):
they want Foals to get the ball out quickly. Being
able to get up there and press those wide receivers
that changes everything. Things get cloudy and now Foals has
to make decisions that you know, it's not your first read,
it's your second read. And to me, that's where they
can they can force him into into some mistakes. I
think it's gonna be hard, hard for him if they

(01:47:13):
can make it a again, a one dimensional game and
not let J J I a UM take over. Uh.
So it sounds like you like Minnesota New England. I like.
I like Minnesota New England. I definitely do. The New
England game is is so interesting just because of the
Tom Coughlin effect. You know what. I what I love

(01:47:33):
that Jacksonville did this week, and to me is a
great indication of the effect that Tom has on that team,
or has had on that organization. They bring in the
left footed punter, so the punt returners, you can get
a feel for what it's like fielding those balls in
the course of the week. It's those little details that
I think set those giant teams apart, and you can

(01:47:56):
see that impact. So I I like that aspect of it.
I like the fact that Tom has been able to
do it in the past. UM. I just don't think
it's gonna be enough at this point for them. What's
the what's the coaching higher that to you feels like
the best fit right because so much of it's about fit, fit, opportunity. UM.

(01:48:16):
You know the landscape of it when you're seeing who
we assume is going to get a job and who
has gotten a job. What's the one you're like that
one will work. One one that's really interesting is is
Josh McDaniels going to Indianapolis with with a guy like
Andrew Luck. I loved Andrew coming out of college that
I've loved what he's done in pro football. I know

(01:48:39):
he's hit some um, you know, he's hit some roadblocks here,
but I could see him being like Peyton Manning or
like Tom Brady. And I think Josh with that type
of quarterback talent and his ability to develop a system
of of really smart football around a quarterback like that

(01:49:00):
to me as a chance to be really successful for
a long time. I guess the question is doesn't he
have to know that Andrew Luck shoulders? Okay? And no
one seems to know if Andrew Luck shoulders okay? Yeah,
that's that's you know, you never know. I'm sure they
went in this season thinking that his shoulder was going
to be fine, you know, this year, you don't know,

(01:49:21):
you don't know, and then that's the leap of faith.
Look at Miami with Ryan Tannehill. They thought his knee
would hold up and it goes out in in the preseason.
You know, Tom Brady at this point hurts his hands.
They get rid of Jimmy Garoppolo. You're there's there's leaps
of faith. That happened all the time. But if it
is right, and I would imagine Josh Field is pretty

(01:49:44):
good about that. If if that's where he's headed, that
that pairing has a chance to do some good things.
They're great stuff. Man. Wait, I can't wait to catch
up with you again. Talk some football the meantime. Have
a great weekend with the family. And thanks for joining us.
All right, thanks Doug Alight pleasures mind Eric Man, Jean
Man genius joining us on the Doug Gottlip shows conditions
on the field change. So can your insurance needs? Talk

(01:50:04):
about the Farmers agent today so you can assess whether
your policy is game ready. Find an agent at Farmers
dot com. Are Farmers Let's go to Dan Buyer. Dan,
it's a Friday. Sometimes there's news dumps Friday. Anybody dumped
some news that on a Monday would be a huge thing,
but Friday pipe people might have missed. How about the
NFL revealing today that the Raiders did comply with the

(01:50:25):
Rooney rule when they hired head coach John Gruden. Remember
Jack del Rio was fired immediately after their loss to
the l A Chargers in Week seventeen, and then the
groomers started and ended with him getting a ten year,
one hundred million dollar contracts. But the NFL says the
Raiders did comply with the Rudey rule when hiring John Gruten.

(01:50:45):
Interesting the New England Patriots matchup with the Jaguars is Sunday.
You just talked with Eric Mangini about that. But Tom
Brady's press conference, I think of beauty today for the
quarterback four minutes of no answers. Here's a sample of
how the first twelve seconds of it sound. Did the
game more pain than during right now. I've played a
lot of games with pain, so gloves. If you would

(01:51:07):
played again in books, I's been a long time. Thank you.
That's how pretty press conference ended today. Yes, just about
four minutes and then two questions and then that was it.
At the end. Brady reportedly has a cut on that
hand that required four stitches. Vikings wide receiver Wide receiver
Adam feeling questionable for Sunday's NFC title game because of

(01:51:27):
a lower back injury. Vikings and Eagles on Fox at
six forty Eastern time. Lakers Gard Alonzo ball out tonight
against the Pacers with a spraying nakel espn s is.
The Hornets want to trade Kemba Walker and are listening
to offers a couple of golf notes to pass along
Career Builder Challenge right now. Zack Johnson and John rom
one shot back of the lead at thirteen under par.

(01:51:48):
Will philm Michelson is eight shots back of the lead.
Andrew Landry as the lead at fourteen under US Open.
Champ Brooks kept out until the Masters because of a
risk injury. Dug good stuf uh because dance Doug gotl
the show Fox Sports Radio. Um, so I have we
have these really good friends and well I have three kids.

(01:52:08):
They have three kids, and um, we're talking with him
one night and they started to kind of argue a
little bit, and like they are the nicest people, right,
and h he works super hard, Like he he is
a seven to seven am to seven pm guy, just
works every day. But it's kind of a cool job
because he can travel around while doing the job, so

(01:52:31):
they could literally be anywhere. And so like when they
will go on vacation, Like he won't always take a
day off, he'll just work. But the kids will get
and they they'll go you know, they'll get a they'll
go out as a family for a late dinner. So
it's a well paying job. He's a good dude, good kids, whatever.
And we're at dinner with him and they kind of
start to argue about the different merits of having a

(01:52:54):
fourth child. And their youngest is just turned seven, so
there's a kind of sizeable gap. And they're a little
bit younger than me, so starting to get up there
into the you know, mid late thirties, so it's it's
starting to get was a yogi berra is um late
early and the fight didn't wasn't nasty in any way.

(01:53:17):
It was just like he was like, look, we're good.
We got three great kids. We're a good spot. Like
I'm putting away money for college. We have a house,
like it's a lot, but it's not crazy. I have
a job that's a lot, but it's not crazy. Like
all these things like we're kind of good here. And
his wife God blessers, just like hang on to the kid.

(01:53:38):
And so she was even at some point teasing but
the teasing became a little real, like well, what if
I just went to the spurn bank and I just
got artificially inseminated, And because I want a child, and
like if you can't, you don't want to do that?
Child is fine, Like let's just go have a baby.
And um my wife and I we talked about having
forth and there's one thing that would involve that, you

(01:53:59):
know that kind of cuts us out and I'm kidding, uh,
and like, look, we have discussions or even arguments about
different things. But I remember sitting there going like, this
is one of our one of the couples that we
I don't know, idolize or we really revere like their relationship,
like they get along really well, but here is a

(01:54:21):
complete disagreement in what they should do. One wants to
do one thing, wants to do the other. And I
remember my wife and I we were driving home from
having dinner and she was like, wow, she really wants
the fourth I was like, yeah, he really does not
want it. For I was like, it's funny because I
want a fourth but you don't. But it's like not,
we don't even argue about it because it's like not

(01:54:43):
kind of a nonstarter conversation. Anyway, I remember driving home thinking,
we're not screwed up. Yeah, I mean, like, look, we
have arguments, we have things we disagree with about, probably
none of which are wall arguments. No, and yes, maybe
close to, but not that much. I bring that up

(01:55:03):
because I saw this story about Levyan Bell, and I
asked Eric Bongini just moments ago about, you know, how
do you handle the Levy on Bell thing where he
doesn't want to Brady Quinn's like, that's the not even
professional showing up an hour before a game for a
playoff game, Like what are you doing? Leveyan? Bell is
alleged to have h showing up super late for the
last walk through the season and showing up um consistently

(01:55:30):
late four games. Mike Tomlin one in there too, on
the field two hours for the game. He's getting there
an hour before the game. And then I we go back,
was it a week ago or two weeks ago? The
New England Patriots story was out where there's the disagreement
between Brady and Belichick and what happened with Garoppolo and
Rissette and why they trade these guys away and is

(01:55:51):
this and there's the Brady's trainer thing, and because if
you just listen to the wait, Brady has a trainer
and he was with the team. And then there's some
guys wanted he wanted to stop guys from doing squats
and they regular trainers want them to do squats, and
you're like, wow, that deal is really messed up. Then
you hear the Pittsburgh Steelers, You're like, well, Ben Roethlisberger

(01:56:14):
doesn't get along with Todd Haley, but doesn't want to
claim responsibility for Todd Haley's death as quarter coordinator. Antonio
Brown had the Facebook thing last year, got the new contract,
and um is a tremendous player, but does his contract
take away from their ability to surround Big Ben with talent?

(01:56:35):
Levy on Bell we have these issues, plus wants a
new contract. Like you kind of start to go through,
like wow, Pittsburgh's kind of screwed up. They look at
Jacksonville and while everything is great, like let's just be honest.
Everybody knows jackson was playing without a quarterback. The Kansas
City Chiefs, we know who their air parent is as
quarter These is a playoff teams we're talking about, like

(01:56:58):
go through the playoffs, you know, like, wow, Tennessee won
a game in the playoffs and fired their head coach.
Buffalo got to the playoffs first time in eighteen years
and fired their first year offensive coordinator and Tyrod TEMs.
My point is that the Levy on Bell story in
and of itself seems problematic, and there's some confirmation bys Oh,

(01:57:20):
that's why Pittsburgh wasn't as dominants they should be. But
if you look at all the stories in totality, much
like when you're at dinner with any other couple and
you find that one key argument disagreement, you're like, you
know what, the Patriots aren't that screwed up. Sure they're
screwed up, but everybody screwed up, right, everybody screwed up.

(01:57:45):
I mean, look, we watched movies like Rocky and Red Dawn.
That's we grew up on. Some of you guys grew
up on on Grand Theft Auto. Did you see the
Do you see the car in Santa Anna Ramos that
was that crashed into the second story of a building
airborne got airborne? Right, You're like, what is this grand
theft autot Like, no, this is real life. Anyway. Anytime

(01:58:09):
you think you're screwed up. Just no, everybody screwed up.

athletes who put to the test at times. The same
goes for your car battery. Luckily, Auto Zone offers free
battery testing. See you never buy a part you don't need.

(01:58:50):
Stopping today getting the zone Auto Zone depress bringing Dan Buyer.
You'll hear him on the weekend here on Fox Sports Radio.
Damn what he got? All we have got news involving
Tom Brady. Now Tom Curran, the longtime reporter from the
Boston area. Not a report, Doug, necessarily, but what he
is hearing saying that Tom Brady suffered an injury almost

(01:59:15):
between his thumb and pointer finger when he was trying
to drop back and the football got caught in that
webbing area that may have caused the cut that could
have caused the four stitches that have been reported the knuckle,
so that that is. Curran says that he is hearing
he doesn't want to put it on a report, but
one of the things he's hearing is that, yes, some

(01:59:35):
of the webbing between the yeah, that is there an
area that that there's names for everything on the human body.
Webbing is really good. But I think of webbing between
the first the pointer and middle finger middle and yeah,
is that well, I would think the name for that
you had a name for um, I don't know. I'm
not sure. I don't know what that area would be called.

(01:59:58):
But Current also said that Brady hasn't been taking any
snaps under center, so it's just been in the shotgun
where you may not think it's a big deal except
for the fact that you know, when they're in fourth
and short, Tom Brady quarterback sneaks quite a bit and
gets those short yardage plays. Yeah, we'll have to see
what happens on Sunday. But officially listed as questionable for

(02:00:21):
that matchup against the Jaguars. Touched on this a little
bit earlier, but yeah, apparently the Raiders are a ok
in the NFL's eyes and hiring Jon Gruden, saying that
didn't comply with the Rooney rule. Yeah, people don't understand
the Rooney rule, right, it's a letter of the law.
That did they comply with the spirit of the Runey rule?
Probably not right. They knew who they wanted to hire,
and it was not They didn't offer that. They didn't

(02:00:42):
open up to the possibility of a minority coach, but
they did interview a minority head coaching candidate before they
ever made an official decision on who they were going
to hire. Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson arrested in Florida
this morning, charging with nine charges, including being a police
officer also causing harm to a public servant and their

(02:01:03):
family member with the comments that he made, second time
in less than in about eight months that he's been
arrested by police. Yeah, I mean, like, look, this dude's
a baby dude, um, and I don't think that will
stick that he caused harm to somebody because of what
he said that the old sticks and stones might break
my bones, but words and never hurt me. But those
are some pretty hurtful words and just kind of shows
like I'm the Jets. Yeah, thanks dude, exactly, very very

(02:01:28):
very well done. Pretty good this year too. That's a
shame that this stuff has to happen. Tim Tebow one
of nine minor league players that the Mets have invited
to Major League spring training. How about that in the
least shocking news ever? Right? Yes, the Cavaliers reportedly have
an interest in trading for veteran Sacramento King's guard George Hill.

(02:01:49):
That never seen. That seemed odd, especially with the young
guards at Sacramento got in the draft of George Hill
come in there, and now they're gonna be arresting their veterans.
So George Hill could be a possibility another guard. I
don't know. I mean, I guess like they're gonna say, Derek,
they're gonna try everything, absolutely everything. Warriors forward Draymond Green

(02:02:09):
finished second and fan voting for the All Star startists,
but just seventh amongst players. Green said he didn't expect
players to vote for him for the All Star Game.
That's really high for that's really high. I mean, I
think that shows they think he's incredibly versatile. He's not
the seventh best player, but he's an important player to
the best team in basketball. Finally, Dion Waiters has a
ten ft wide bed. Yeah, put it on Instagram. The

(02:02:29):
NBA guard and a normal king size bed is uh,
you know about six and a quarter feet wide ten
ft wide king bed for Dion Waiters that could even
even uh, Antonio Camarti could maybe fit his all his kids.
It's called the Camarti That's what it's called. If you

(02:02:53):
go to our Fox Sports Radio Twitter feed, John Ramos
has reviewed H twelve, the twelve Strong movie. Ramos thumb
up or thumb down? He goes thumb very much up.
I'll retweet that one out. Follow Fox Sports Radio. Simple
picks here, right. I think the Patriots. Patriots are nine
and a half point favorites. They're gonna win. They're gonna cover,

(02:03:14):
all right. And I think the Vikings are gonna win.
The Vikes are gonna cover. What quarterbacks do I have
more faith in? And I don't have a ton of
faith in case Keenum, especially playing outside. But I really
like that defense. And I really don't have a lot
of faith in Folds, only because Fools doesn't seem to
have a lot of faith in himself in that offense.
I like him. The middle the webbing is called the perlcule,
