every day, in this case all from Southern California. Welcome in.
Good to be home, Good to be with the fellas,
my man Chrisohfett and the updates you got Ryan on
the ones and twos, and of course the great Jason
Stewart producing the show. For forty years, Tyrek has been
helping customers on the right tires for how, what and
where they drive, ship fast and free back by free
road ask protection, with convenience solation options like mobile tire

(00:43):
Insallation tyreq dot com. It's the way that tire buying
should be should be. Okay, got a big hour for you.
I do want to talk about Denzel and what he
said on first take. Denzel on first takes Big and
then Dianiel Jeremiah will join us. We'll get his take
on the Chargers now without Rashawn Slater, we'll get his
thoughts on you know, James Cook, the new running back contract,

(01:07):
and shod Or Sanders. I'm sure he's watched the film
by now. How what is he look in regards to
an NFL quarterback? And should he be higher on the
depth chart despite now he's he's out with an oblique injury.
We'll get to that this hour before we do. We
do this every week. It's the middle of the day.
It's the middle of the week on Wednesday, and s
really the middle of our show because after the show

(01:27):
we got a one hour podcast just download redwnload podcast.
That's what we call it. The Midway. He's not getting
the middle It's time for the Midway, Jay stew Now,
we had a couple of options for the midway. Throughout
the options, Thank you, Doug All taking from here.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
We've got a couple options, as you just laid out.
I sent on the group text today with Chris Purfat,
Ryan Smith and you. Nobody responded, So I said, let's
just have the production meeting on the air. But so
give it a little context here. I just got back

(02:09):
from a vacation where I went up and down the
coast to California. It was wonderful. Thanks for asking. And
I know you're vacationing or working in California this week.
I'm not sure what brings you out here. Chris Purfett
is a transplant now. I know he went to Wake Forest.
He kind of he lived in Detroit for a while,

(02:29):
so he gives that perspective of California. And then Ryan
Smith here, I don't think he's been outside a ten
mile radius of Los Angeles and anybody his entire life.
So I just wanted to say, what's the what's the
most kick ass thing about the state of California, or
or what's the NFL camp storyline that has the most

(02:53):
of your attention right now? And why?

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Well, here's what's interesting. I'm glad you had a great
trip from Central coast to California. It's beautiful area is
I'm gonna take that one and I'll tell you why
California's not perfect. You know, I was driving in Hollywood
yesterday and hit the brakes. There was a homeless person
staggering across the Street, you're like man, but but still awesome, right,

(03:17):
and they've got something for everyone. If you want to
live in the country, you can live in the country.
You want to live in the mountains of the mountains,
on the ocean, ocean, you want the city, can city
on suburbs, suburbs. There's plenty of great areas and great people.
And no, it's not crazy affordable, but there are more
affordable areas. But you also usually get paid more when
you live in the less affordable area. There's pluses and minuses.

(03:39):
I think what's funny is how much of the narrative
is anti California when young people still want to come
to California. They still put you know, La and SoCal
on clothes, they sell for teenagers and young college kids,
and people still eat it up, you know, because it's
still the California dream. Does it really exist? I don't know.
I'm gonna go with that.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I want to I want to vent.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
I feel like I vibe on that, just because again
as the transplant, you know, I grew up in the nineties,
grew up in the two thousands, and that was like
the vision of California was still always like, you know, skateboards,
skateboard parks and sun and and Volcom and everything, and
like I even into my thirties, I was like, I
still want to move to California. So when I was

(04:22):
able to secure a scholarship at USC and go there
and get my masters and everything, I took that leap
humble brock. Yeah, a little bit of a humble brag,
But I will take that humble brag that I have
a master's.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Yes, I a scholarship from USCA.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Honestly, which is very hard to get. I must I
must also break.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Now we're getting less humble, but still bah ahead.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Either either way.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
I've been out here for eight years now and I
would not trade it for anything, just because it is like,
as you say, I live in the San Fernando Valley.
Now I go to like I live among a lot
of people from the Middle East. It is wonderful to
meet new people and new cultures almost every day.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
And then you know my idea of a day off.
Is it expensive here?

Speaker 5 (05:02):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (05:02):
But also I get some of the best Euros I
have in my life. There is a and I'm from Detroit.
I know good Euros. I know good Euros, and New
York chicken and euros here in la is like fantastic.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
By the way, for the midwesterner, listen to the show
that's a gyro.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
I've always said a euros. That's me.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
That's how you're supposed to say it.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yeah, is it?

Speaker 1 (05:21):
You know? Yes, that's how Greek people say it.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
I've always said euros in Detroit. I don't know. Maybe
this is just me not knowing how to say words.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
No, no, I'm saying. You know, if you go to Omaha, oh.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Okay, yeah, Green Bay they call them gyros.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I see gyros either way.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
The East Coast they call them gyros too. It's a
real Greek is you don't.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Either way?

Speaker 4 (05:44):
I have all that, and then I can go out
to the beach in like forty minutes, Like I, is
it expensive? Is there a bunch of downsides? Was I
just complaining about all the haze in the morning?

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Sure, where's the where's the place that there's all positives?
Like I was in? I was in the Tri City.
He's on Monday. Tri Cities of Tennessee. Okay. The Tri
Cities is Johnson City, Okay, Johnson City, Tennessee, Kingsport, Tennessee,
and Bristol Tennessee. That's where the Bristol Motor Speedway is.

(06:16):
It is absolutely stunning and beautiful. And you got the
Smoky Mountains, you're right by the You're right by the
Cumberland Gap. You know, you got the Appalachian Fair there.
You got a lot of great things. But Okay, it's
like if you don't have a family, there ain't a
lot to do other than you still can go hike,

(06:37):
like Jay Stu likes to, you get all four seasons,
really temperate. There's no state say tax put like is
are there the things to do? There are to do
in California now? And again, it doesn't have to be
perfect for everybody. So I'm with you. I just think
we have a tendancy to hyper focus and stuff. Like
they have a big factory in the center of the
Tri Cities. That's a real thing. You know, it's like

(06:58):
you're rolling, You're like, man, Kingsport is it's beautiful. It
is beautiful, But you know there's also a gigantic factory
which runs the entire town and that's probably pumping pollutants
into the water. That's what happens there. They make plastics
there at Eastman, So you know, I mean, there's no

(07:19):
perfect place. It doesn't exist. Most kick ass thing about California, boy,
I think it's the cultures. It's just how homogeneous it is.

(07:40):
That it's so strange for other people to come here
and to see how many cultures there are. Just like
it's equally strange. You know the reasons so many kids
come back to California after going to school for a
year and get homesick. It's not just the weather and
the beach, but also they're used to seeing different faces
and a lot of times you go to colleges and
that's how it's built. I just you mentioned Giddo's right,

(08:04):
Like everybody's got a favorite taco place, everybody's got a
favorite sushi place. You have a favorite ghetto place, like
there's my favorite Greek place. It just it's just options,
that's all. It's just options. I think that's the thing
that I options and all the plurality. What do you think,
Jase too, what's you favorite part?

Speaker 6 (08:24):
Well?

Speaker 2 (08:24):
First of us and for listing our academia, I have
what's known as the opposite of a master's degree. I
have a bachelor's degree from Calstiu Fullerton that's just above
a what do you call those general degrees from thirteenth
grade GEDs. Yeah, that's just above a GED good enough,

(08:47):
a good enough degree. So this is my observation as
I was traveling driving down the coast of California. It's
amazing to me how much agriculture and I googled it
as as she was drive and I googled it. California
makes up for like eighty percent of the agriculture in

(09:10):
the United States. It makes up for a lot of
the agriculture around the world. There are hundreds and hundreds
of miles where you don't even see humans, you just
see crops, you just see landscape, and you know, just
not to get too political, it's amazing to me that
there is a political push to get the people that

(09:34):
farm that land out of the state. Like who exactly
is going to do it? It's incredible, but it's hard
to like until you actually experience it. All of the land.
It's hard to like even think about. You know, you
hear these people about talk about, you know, overpopulation, there

(09:54):
are too many people, not enough resources. Travel down the
coast of California just once those highways says that you
would probably change that one I think.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
I think it's a great point. I also think that
what's what's fascinating is you know you mentioned all the agriculture, right,
who who works in those fields? Correct? Right? What's that?
What's that going to look like? And like it's just

(10:25):
it's just very I moved in eighty one, moved to
California in eighty one, and the neighborhood next to my
house is is a barrio Bardio Almadina, And so I know,
you know, it's like if you went and raided there,
I don't know, half the people would probably be sent home,
sent to sent to Mexico, even though this has been
their home for you know, decades. So I think, and

(10:48):
this is a lot like the discussion we have on
political discussions for other countries. We don't know the details.
You don't so many people don't understand California because how
it's sold in movies and then how it's sold news
neither are truly accurate. It's not like everywhere you go
there's a movie star, but it's not also not like
everywhere you go there's homeless people, rampant crime, and everything's

(11:11):
crazy expensive.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
And you're right, that does feel almost like a bit
of a different nation. After a point too, you consider
the size of the California economy, just how isolated you
you you would know this, but like the Midwest and
the eastern coast of the United States, they all kind
of feel like their own single political entity. Whereas out
in California, this is this has always kind of been

(11:33):
the outpost.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
It's always kind.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Of done its own thing for a very long time,
and that culture has always reflected it.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Yeah, I say it's funny though, Like especially East Coasters,
you know, I have a lot of families coasts that
are like, you know, they always like they have that
sentiment like California should just be its own state, you know,
it should just just know you don't want California to
be its own state. California does a lot for this
country economically, Culturally. We might have a bunch of nuts

(12:04):
out here and we're kind of weirdos, but we're way
ahead of the grade culturally, agriculturally, and financially. So yeah,
I'm not a big fan of our governor. He's been
telling everybody who will listen in recent months that the
this news of the great what do you call it,

(12:25):
emigration leaving of California is largely untrue, and it just
makes sense when you take a trip down California.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
It's funny because I think we had those stories of
a bunch of Silicon Valley guys all talking about how
they would move to like Austin, Texas. And I think
as of like last year, I started seeing a lot
of stories of those guys coming back realizing how much
they just do not like Austin, Texas.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Yeah, I look in Austin. Why part of it was
Austin's changed, you know, And people would say Idaho, same
thing like California. A bunch California reasons ruin it. I
get it. I understand. I do think there are people
that have moved. I know I have friends I've moved.
I've moved for work, but I've worked. But there is

(13:12):
it's going to be different. It's going to be different.
Pick the state and it feels really really different. And
if you're used to this and this becomes your jam.
I think the hardest thing is getting in, getting in financially,
getting into a community, and once you feel like you belong,
you're good. But because there are so many people who
still are from other areas, I still think it works. Ryan,

(13:35):
you don't want to any of this and any of this.

Speaker 6 (13:38):
Well, to Jason Stewart's point, I'm not from LA. I'm
from San Jose, California. I came down here in nineteen
ninety six for college and I got my bachelor's degree
from cal State Northrich So how about that, yeah, seasun.
I think the best part about where we are right

(13:58):
now is there's always something to do. Yes, you can't
be bored. I mean, where I'm from up north, it's
boring as hell, but down here there's always always a
party going on. You can go to a game, you
can go to a comedy club. It's just always something
on and popping. And that's why I love California.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
That's a great point too, because, like I think, especially
LA is always like oh, people are too busy to
like go to games. But like the sports culture here
in LA has been utterly fantastic. Like again, like I
grew up near Detroit, I consider that a massive sports town,
but like, come to LA sometime it's hard to say
this is not a sports down that people do not
love the Lakers, the Clippers, like you can support like

(14:40):
over ten teams here. Like the only regret I have
is that USC and UCLA haven't been good in so
long that nobody's really supporting college teams really like they
used to, like back when you know, Pete Carroll was
on the sideline for USC. But like everyone perfectly comes out.
I've even gone to Chargers games and like you you're
you're a Chargers fan, Doug. You know this, Like that
is still a growing and impotent fan base. And I

(15:04):
think both Rams and the Chargers are finding their foot
in LA and just I think people are trying to
see how long and make sure they'll last. But everyone
is more than happy to come out to football games,
baseball games, basketball games, you name it.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
So we're good. I mean, Jay Stu, You're still not
down on California even though the Angels are clearly better
than your Dodgers. I'm kidding.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
The Angels are better than the Dodgers, are a better team,
and the Padres are now tied for first place in
the NL West. But we were told as the trade
deadline came that all these guys coming back from the
IL work, it's going to be our trade deadline. Interesting
decision by Andrew Friedman, and Dodger fans are getting more

(15:51):
and more restless.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Well, they get the Padres get coming up home at
home this weekend, and then they go to Colorado, tick
on the Rockies, then back to the Padres, gotta be
after they finish up with the Angels gotta be pretty
good this weekend. And that that is a special edition
of The Midway. The Midway. Thanks for listening to The

Doug Gotleb Show podcast. Be sure to catch us live

Here's Denzel Washington, who everybody thinks is an amazing actor.
He is, okay, also a huge sports fan, apparently a

(16:37):
Cowboys fan. He had this to say about Jerry Jones.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
I've been a Cowboy fan since the sixties.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
He's making it hard for me, wow, not to.

Speaker 6 (16:46):
Be a fan because I'm still a Cowboy fan.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
I'm still gonna have to stall on the side of
the hat.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
But he ain't thinking about us.

Speaker 7 (16:53):
He's thinking about his pocket.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Okay, I mean.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
Jerry John on the phone, Get him on the phone.
What does he say, You tell me, what does he say?

Speaker 1 (17:03):
He says that he's getting rip my cowboys.

Speaker 7 (17:07):
We're the most successful brand in sports.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
You know, you mean in terms of what championship.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
No, of course he can't say championship.

Speaker 7 (17:14):
Talking about recognition, notoriety, dollars and cents and sports that.
But in the end, you haven't been in the NFC
championship game or Super Bowl in thirty years. Thirty years, okay,
And for some reason, he's just stubborn, man, he just
and then you got his son sitting there talking about
Michael Pauls is like, hey, he gotta want to sign
a contract. What makes no sense, guys. But you know this,

(17:37):
there's box office and there's Oscars. Jerry been a while,
he ain't been to the show.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
You wouldn't know, I mean, Alisten, that's great trash talk.
At the end, reality though, is like he's whether he
pays Michaeh. Parsons or doesn't, Like he's Jerry's never not
paid guys. He's never not paid guys. And oh yeah,
by the way, none of that his bottom line. There's
a salary cap. They're going to spend it, and they're
gonna make gobs and gobs of money, and the valuation

(18:08):
of the team keeps going up. And oh yeah, by
the way, we learned because the Packers are a publicly
traded company that everybody got four hundred and fifty thirty
million dollars from the league. I love Denzil, but his
what they're doing negotiating with Mike Parsons has nothing to
do with his bottom line. Dan and Jeremiah joins us

(18:29):
uh first place, padres fan and your favorite Denzel movie.

Speaker 5 (18:35):
Well, I would go to to remember the Titans would
be up there.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Oh good one.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Yeah, in terms of the best like Speen or dialogue,
I would go hunt for Red October in the submarine.
Speech was pretty was pretty out there.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
He was he was Crimson Tide. He wasn't unproductive.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
Oh sorry, sorry, sorry sorry, Crimson Tie correct correct, correct,
But that speech it is with Gene Hackman, right, is that?
Who's with him there?

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Gene Hackman, Genackman.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
That is an awesome scene where he takes over control
of it of the sub So those of the two
that come to mind. I don't know, I couldn't tell
who was talking in that who else is on there?
But whoever said that incredulously. You think the Cowboys are
worth more than the Yankees. Yes, the Cowboys are worth
four billion dollars more than the Yankees. Like it's not
even close.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
I know, I know for people who don't understand, you know, owners,
does it really affect them in terms of how much
they pay a player?

Speaker 5 (19:26):
No, no, no no. And they have, like you said,
I mean, you can go through their their history with
Jerry there, they've always paid guys. It's and it's there's
been a lot of instances where it's dragged on and
going back to Emmitt Smith for that, but he's he's
never had a problem right in the check. So the
whole thing that like they're cheap, I don't know that
that's necessarily accurate. I mean just recently, look at what

(19:48):
they paid Dak, Look what they paid Ceedee Lamb. Like
they they're not afraid to come out of the pocket.
It's just Jerry and he even said it as much
like he likes being in the news, he likes them
being a topic of conversation, and it's almost like he's
going to make them just kind of wait for their money.
It's some I don't know if that's a power thing
or what but he eventually pays them.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Yeah, he did. He does, shad Or Sanders. You watch
film differently than average Joe. How do you actually look
when you booked down the film?

Speaker 5 (20:15):
Yeah, it was good. I watched it, you know, I
was on the prehaff and post on NFL network, and
then I went back and watched the tape of it
and he was good, like it was. It was fine,
like he there was nothing really different than what I
saw in college, you know, strengths and weaknesses. You know,
he showed some anticipation, made some nice touch throws. There
were times where he climbed up in the pocket nicely,

(20:36):
and then there was two examples of where he's drifting
in the pocket and then almost got caught in some
real long negative plays. So I thought he looked like
what we had seen when you know, to me, I
don't know what direction the Browns are going to go
going forward, but I did think he showed enough to
warrant some you know, some more reps. But now he's hurt,
so that's not that's not really going to happen. But

(20:58):
I always cautioned people when you're when you're watching these
competitions play out and You're like, I don't know why
this guy is running with the two's and this guy's
with the THREESU. We are not in we are not
in a room, we are not in a building. We
don't know what you know, one guy, you know has
processed offense wise versus the other guy. You know, there's
so many different other factors that go into it that
you're not going to be privy to by watching, you know,

(21:20):
vanilla football in the preseason.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
When a guy is hurt, now, he did put some
good plays on tape. When a guy is hurt, how
does that affect whether a team keeps him or doesn't
keep him?

Speaker 5 (21:30):
Well, I mean, there's ways to stash guys if they're
really really hurt. It doesn't sound like that was this,
but every rep is is very important for everyone in
that quarterback competition save Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco is the
only one of those guys that's got, you know, a
proven track record, and not only that, a proven track
record with this team and this coach. So the other three,
every single rep is extremely valuable, especially in these joint

(21:53):
practices they've been doing with the Eagles. I'll call my
buddies in Philly and so we talk next week. I'll
have a I'll have a better feel for you of
how the Browns looked and what that looked like once
I talked all my guys there, But that was that's
a valuable, valuable opportunity with these practices.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. What'd you
think of James Cook's new contract. He's only three years
in the league, so there he did a hold in
and I'm sure you saw that chefter made sure to
put in the agent's name. So the agents want these
numbers out there, But what's the reality to how the numbers,
how it all works when you give a guy thirty

(22:29):
million guaranteed and he's still under contract for two years
with the fifth year option.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
I think at this point in time, where Josh is
in this window, that you kind of lose negotiating power,
you know, when you're right on the doorstep and you're
so close to your goal. I think it's probably, you know,
in the agent's favor to have a team like this,
with a client like this where you can, you know,
kind of put their feet to the fire and play
a game of chicken with them because they're they're so

(22:55):
invested right now and trying to win this thing right
now that you might be able to pull this off.
I don't know that this same strategy works if you're,
you know, kind of a middle tier team, But I
you know, and I don't even I don't even know
who revers. I haven't seen the articles, I haven't seen
who his agents are. I don't know who they are
off the top of my head. But it's probably a
smart play on their part to realize the window the
bills are in and try and exercise some leverage they

(23:17):
wouldn't have otherwise.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Are do you believe teams are going to change their
philosophy on signing running backs due to the success of
some of these older running backs the past couple of years.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
Now, I still think that you want guys on, you know,
the front side, and you're going to be leery of
overpaying on the on the back side. I think there's
you have to and with any sport, you know, in
any position, I think you have to recognize who the
exceptions are. Doug and I still think these are just
a couple of exceptions we're talking about. Like I'm I'm
fascinated to see what Christian McAffrey looks like this year,

(23:49):
you know, he's making a lot of money. Last year
wasn't healthy, Like to Hee tried out there for seventeen weeks,
is he you know, going to you know, earn what
what the number he's got on the books looks like
because Saquon obviously crushed it last year. But you know,
and you saw Derrick Henry as well. You know those
But to me, those guys are more of like the
physical exceptions than what's normal.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Stut Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio, Chargers. They
lose one of the top left tackles the game. Now
the good news is they can move Joe Alt over.
The bad news is, well, now you'd lose Joe Alt
at right tackle. How much does this change what they
wanted to do?

Speaker 5 (24:28):
I mean, I think it hurts, you know, to me,
it shows up on third downs is where you're going
to see it, and you're just gonna have to devote
some help to the right side, you know, with Trey
Pipkins over there. And to be honest, it's no different
than probably twenty of the thirty two teams where you
don't have a right tackle, you feel comfortable leaving out
there on an island, so they're kind of they were
in that select club that could leave those guys alone

(24:48):
with the two tackles, and now that's not the case.
But I don't think any of their goals are out
of reach. I think it just maybe effects on third
downs given some help over there, and the Chargers have
three tight ends. I think the two sixty five that
basically can function as extra offensive tackles as well. They're huge,
so that that would be, uh, you know something I
would keep an eye on there.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
With them stuck outleap show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Do you want time to talk some trashy to Jay
Stune now at the Podgers your type the first place?

Speaker 5 (25:16):
No, no, no, no, no no. I mean, look, Doug,
I don't I think it's unrealistic the expectations. I mean,
they they only spent one point six billion dollars in
the last two years. You can't expect the Dodgers to
run away from a division when they're just not committed,
you know, to investing in what it takes to win
at the highest level.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
The sad thing is like Jase DU's gotten no retort
because he's he said he doesn't love the mix of
this team and what Andrew Friedman's done.

Speaker 5 (25:42):
Go ask me this, well, Jase doing this one because
this makes no sense. Mean, look, the Dodgers off full
of readily admit they could still go win the whole
thing and none of this will matter. But when you're
at the trade deadline, really as much as many prospects
as they have, you really were that beholden for those
guys that you would part with some double A players
to go get one of these top end relievers and

(26:04):
almost virtually guarantee yourself another World Series. Like that's insane
to me.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
It's I think, equally insane to Jason Stewart, Correct, Jason.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I think that Andrew Friedman he gets cute, you know,
Andrew Friedman. I've always said this, It means more to
Andrew Friedman to win in his cute way than just
to win. He took a World Series team with an
amazing chemistry. A couple of the Glue guys were let go,
and he spent a lot of money on other guys,

(26:34):
and the chemistry isn't there. Something's broken about this team
and the trade deadline strategy of just letting il guys
come back hasn't worked. The Padres did a phenomenal job
at the trade deadline. I don't know where they're getting
all these resources. They're supposed to be going.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
Broke, Like Mason Miller is arguably the best reliever in baseball.
He's making six hundred five one undred thousand. What it
cost us was a ton of prospects. But I don't care.
I mean, I, as a fan of a team, like
a J. Peler, just keeps scouting and scouting and scouting,
and somehow they magically have more prospects every year. But man,
I love the fact that my GM is just going

(27:14):
for it. He's not going to let some twenty year
old kids stand in the way of them trying to
win a championship, and he goes for it. To me,
as a fan of a team, I love his mindset.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Well, boys, we'll see because there's a big showdown this
weekend at the Ravine Big and we gotta get through.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
And we got to get through the Giants and we're
only up seven to nothing in the third inning. So
you know, I don't want to get ahead of myself
here on today's.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
Game Stut Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Tradio, What
are you hearing about how about Caleb Williams.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
I don't know, Doug, if it's if we're just getting
tough love or if there's disappointment. I don't I haven't
had a chance to talk to anybody in the building there,
but it's one of the two. I don't think there's
a third option.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Uh so it's not good.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
Well, I mean it's either tough love, like, hey, we're
just gonna make this hard on him, and we're going
to be hard on him and we're confident that this
is the best thing for him and he's actually gonna
be really, really good, or uh oh, we're wildly disappointed
and now that's you know, that's seeping out. I don't
know which one of those two things it is.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
What are you hearing about? JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
Up and down? I just have so much belief in
KOC that they can kind of, you know, navigate around that.
I think it's going to be a slow start to
the year though, just no Addison for three games. Jefferson's
missing a ton of time in terms of getting their
chemistry together. So they got three new offensive linemen. I mean,
I could very easily see people panicking on the Vikings
with a little bit of a slow start, but I
think they'll, you know, they'll have time to get going.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Okay, last quarterback that I want to know, what you know,
Aaron Rodgers. You know some have said May looks old,
May looks old. What do you heard?

Speaker 5 (28:49):
Not what I've heard? And I know, I know, you know,
I'm always careful with when you talk to guys on
teams and personnel departments starting training camp. It's very optimistic,
you know, for the most part. But I've heard they
the guys I've talked to in Pittsburgh have been very
happy with what they've seen from Aaron and they feel
like they have a chance to have one of the
best defensive It's not the best defense in the league,
and he fit in there. And uh, he's you know,

(29:12):
the fact they're at Latrobe, they go away for training camp.
He's playing cards with the guys, he's engaged with him.
He's you know, they've been very, very, very pleased what
they have so far.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
He's the one and only Daniel Jeremiah. Uh. Six games
seeing the Dodgers and the Padres over the next week
and a half. So we can settle that on the
field and talk about it on air, DJ, thanks for
joining us.

Speaker 5 (29:32):
Appreciate they about the Angels first.
