Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening sports and boom, Johnny Ramos appears on a
Friday getting a set for the weekend. What better way
to live? Already one hiccup we are. We are eight
seconds in. If if you thought Louisville had a bad
night last night, we are often running like the Cardinals.
Louisville what up fourth under a second to go and
(00:23):
they still lose. We've already gotten one hiccup in the
first eight seconds of the show. I'm sure Doug would
be proud. John Ramo's great job starting off on this
Friday Friday is an eight my middle name, and so
we ready to go. By the way I heard, Louisville
their roster and a lot of that. They do most
of their good work in Italian restaurants after hours, so
they can understand why that game would have been a
(00:43):
little bit of an issue. Honestly, the fact is is
there was a lot more going on in basketball last night.
In addition to Louisville losing a lead with under a
second to go when they were up not by one,
or by two, or by three, but up by four.
It Zona last night played its first game since Sean
Miller had his speech yesterday afternoon, and then of course
(01:06):
you have the NBA Lakers go and roll against the
Miami Heat. But it's what happened with the Cleveland Cavaliers
that has us talking today here on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Cavaliers Jonas last night lose to the Philadelphia seventy Sixers
one o eight to nine seven in a game that
it seemed Philadelphia just kind of kept the Calves at bay,
maybe at times that cows agein within between one, but
(01:28):
then the Sixers would end end up extending their lead.
And now the questions about the Cleveland Cavaliers after another
home loss, this time to a team that who knows
how the playoffs will set up, but they could face
in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Um more questions are rising
in Cleveland. When we know that we're going to fill
in for Doug Okay, and most of the time we're
(01:49):
paying attention to what's going on, kind of jotting down
some notes, keeping keeping an eye on things, because you
can never bank on certain stories being stories because stuff breaks.
It's you know, it's the middle of the day, there's life, basketball,
all sorts of things that could happen, and they could
supersede everything that you do, but you just kind of
keep an eye on everything to try and just react
(02:09):
in what you're going to discuss the following day or
whenever you do a show next. And so I'm watching
that game, going, all right, we're working tomorrow for Doug.
Let me just go ahead and uh kind of watch
this game, going back and forth between that and Carnivalites.
Dan did something they did a they did a burrito,
like an ice cream burrito at this at this uh
this this truck at affair somewhere, and like Calgary, that
(02:30):
was unbelievable. We'll talk about it later, but I'm flipping
back and forth, and something became very clear as I
was watching that game between the Calves and the Sixers.
Philly just has better players. I mean they really do.
Like this whole idea that the Calves got better by
trading away all those guys when everybody fell and completely
(02:54):
fell head over heels to this new Calves roster, and
how they looked. And you saw a perfect example last
night to where if you were to list the five
best players on the floor, Lebron is number one and
Philly might have the next best. For I go back
to a couple of weeks ago when the Cavaliers had
won their third straight game, beating Oklahoma City and then
on the heels of destroying Boston. And again, this is
(03:16):
right before the NBA All Star Break, and the Cavaliers
seemed to have this new life in him. And I
looked at the Cavaliers and thought, with the dead weight
that I thought that they lost in Dwade Wade, in
Derrick Rose, in Channing Fry, in Isaiah Thomas, and in
all the moves that they made, that the new energy
that they brought in would help. With Jordan Clarkson and
Larry Nance. I really liked Rodney Hood and George Hill
(03:39):
gives them an upgrade at the point guard position, even
more so than what Isaiah Thomas did. Just because Issaiah
Thomas didn't fit you. Jonas at the time said hold
your horses, this is just three games. Let's wait till
all of this ends up playing out where maybe the
newness isn't there, where this energy isn't there. And again
with lab On James being at the age that he is,
(04:02):
I I am I'm not afraid to say that you
were right in the situation of the Cleveland Cavaliers now
having things settle out and everything isn't all dandy in Cleveland.
You were right about that. Well, and listen, I'm not
here to to you know, well, maybe I'll send a
tweet up. Maybe maybe. But this brings up the question
then in the end, when it comes to the Eastern
(04:24):
Conference playoffs, when you look at these teams, Boston is
playing better in the Raptors have been a different team
than the in years past. It's how are people are
you willing as an NBA fan to put your money
on the line and pick the Cavaliers to lose in
the Eastern Conference over any of these teams? And I
look at last night, Jonas is a game that you're
(04:45):
right Philadelphia after Lebron James would have Joel Embiid, they
would have Ben Simmons. J J. Reddick is a better
Kyle Korver. If you wanted to to compare the teams,
you have got better players on the seventies sixers. By
the way, when did uh Sarig becomes Sharig? Like now
where I I know, like the c at the end,
but we're just adding a lot of I'm still going
(05:07):
with sarage. But the hect is is you know, you've
got players like him, and when you get to the Cavaliers,
you're like, okay, yeah, six and seven. It reminds me
of the first time the Calves and Warriors played in
the finals when it was just Lebron and the Warriors
just had everybody else and the Warriors go through that
in five games. But I think last night proved Jonas.
It's not that the seventies sixers are just a flat
(05:27):
out better team than the Cavaliers. It's just the fact
that the Cavaliers are going to have a tough time
in every single playoff round that they have if they
want to get back to the NBA, I mean sooner.
Like I'm a firm believer that you can change and
all of that stuff, but at your core, it's just
what you are. Like, Like, that's like if we if
you have enough body of work, you go just follow trends,
(05:48):
you know, follow things that happened over and over again,
because that's usually where you can find the truth behind things.
What do we know about Lebron James teams when they
go to the finals, when he is clearly the best
player and really their only option, he never wins whether
it was the first finals appearance against the Spurs, when
he was playing with guys like Eric Snow and Zill
(06:09):
Drownsale Gal Skis and and Gives and all those guys
weren't good enough when he was. When when he was
in the finals last year against the Golden State Warriors
and it was really only him. I mean remember towards
the end of that game, he basically took the ball
every single time down the floor because that was their
only option. They're only sure fire way to get to
(06:31):
the hole and get points. Like we've seen this time
and time again. Like like we've seen this time and
time again now to where when he is it for
your team, that's it's over. And it's just amazing to
me how the title hopes of this team, whatever fleeting
title hopes you think those are, are reliant on the
(06:52):
guy that everybody has trying to chase out of town
every single year he's been there, Kevin Love. Like like
the guy that Dwyane Wade and Isaiah Thomas called out.
He is now the lynchpin to their only kind of
sort of hope at contending for an NBA title now
because after Lebron they're nothing after him nothing after while
you're no, you're right about that. I love looked at
(07:14):
the Cavaliers over these last couple of weeks, and I
just I think that there are two teams that can
win the NBA Championship, and that's the Rockets and the Warriors.
Um I give the Celtics maybe an outside chance, maybe
the Raptors. I never had the idea that the Cavaliers
got in that ring with either of those two teams,
that they would be able to compete, because it would
(07:38):
be the worst Cavaliers team that you would have going
up against a Warrior's team in that string of the
four finals. So I had never thought that there would
be an NBA championship. What's just amazing is how quickly
to me the East is now caught up. And I
don't think that there are there are teams. I think
Washington's got I mean, for Washington to play better without
(07:59):
John wall Is Odd. Milwaukee's got holes. They're they're they're
an okay team, but they've got holes. But no matter
what Jonas, whether the Calves match up with the Wizards,
whether the Calves match up with the seventies sixers or
match up with the Bucks, or Pacers, whoever it's going
to be. The fact is is it is not going
to be an easy series. They're likely to have to
go six or seven games I think to close out
(08:19):
any of those teams. And that is what's changed to
me in the Eastern Conference, and there's more issues with
the Cleveland Cavaliers. Want to quickly let you know that
today's show was brought to you by True Car. Online
car shopping can be confusing, not anymore. With true Price
from True Car, now you can know how you can
know the exact price you'll pay for your next car.
That is so as a True Car to enjoy a
more confident car buying experience. But more about the Calves
(08:40):
you mentioned Kevin Love. There's no Jr. Smith last night either,
And the thing that j R. Smith would turn things
around for the Cavaliers is just as crazy as thinking
that Kevin Love is going to be the difference for
the Cavaliers. So like last night's lost to eleven by
the seventies Sixers wasn't because j R. Smith wasn't there,
Now we're finding out more of y j R. Smith
wasn't there or because he apparently got into a some
(09:03):
sort of I don't know. Um argument, Uh maybe what
would you call it? Not a tussle? Tussle wouldn't be right,
little tiff? Is that Donny Brook? Yeah? Yeah, something like
that with assistant coach Damon Jones. And there are no
reports out of Cleveland that j R. Smith may have
thrown something at Damon Jones. Soup, Dan soup, hot soup,
(09:25):
you know, because when I get angry, when we're disagreeing
on a topic, my move is to throw hot soup
at you. What what the hell is that? What you very?
What are you doing? Like? Like? Who who thinks that's
a good idea? You don't have like a restaurant or
if like you did that to somebody would probably be
considered a salt if you burned somebody with sick Yeah,
(09:45):
that's true, that's true. I was thinking, like, why would
you throw soup? Because for the simple fact of would
there be a glass like a drink next to you
where I think would be a better option than the
chicken noodle that you're eating, or if there's happened to
be a dinner roll next to you, I would rather
throw that at someone than an actual bowl of soup, which,
in my mind wouldn't go anywhere, especially being in the
bowl container that it is. At least if it's in
(10:06):
a glass, it's in a more narrow where you're gonna
get the person with more than than the liquid than not.
But a soup soup could go all over the place.
Do you remember the T shirt that was made for
j R. Smith several years ago? Um, He's ended up
hitting up some girl in her d M s like
on Instagram or Twitter or one of those things, and
she was just saying, I'm really excited to go to
(10:27):
your game. It's just kind of a back and forth.
And then he just asked her, are you trying to
get the pipe? Who's going to be the first person
to remake that shirt? You're trying to get the soup? Okay,
who's doing it? All right? Are we taking bids on this?
Who's the first person to get in there is a
cafe press, who's the first person to get in there
(10:47):
and do that? You're trying to get the soup? And
happened the fact that Damon it was a Damon Jones,
one half of the Barnacle Brothers. He and Juwan Howard
are the Barnacle Brothers. You know why They're the Barnacle
Brothers because they stick the champion absolutely the Lebron boat.
They just sucked onto the side of it and wouldn't
let go. The Barnacle Brothers. I covered the Calves in
that two thousand seven finals against the Spurs, and there's
(11:10):
a guy I knowing Cleveland and he goes around here.
He's known as Amon Owns. He plays no D and
has no J. So that's that's why that was the
Damon Jones and the and the the best contribution that
Damon Jones had to that Cavaliers team was organizing. They
get together party after their Game two loss in San
Antonio on a Monday morning. I kid you not. I
(11:32):
come back from the arena after the Cavaliers just got killed.
There's a game three in less than forty eight hours
in Cleveland. We're in San Antonio. Is actually staying at
the Caves Hotel and I get there and t O
is there and Damon Jones is standing outside the hotel.
They're ready to go out like it's one of them.
On a London morning in San Antonio, they're down two
(11:52):
oh in the finals, have a trip to go back
to Cleveland, and Damon Jones is getting everybody in order
to make sure that everybody can go out that the
Barnacle brother Van him and Juwan Howard they could be
tag team. Chances like they'll probably be at WrestleMania out.
I think about the longer that they stayed in the playoffs,
the longer that they could party. Oh Man, all right,
Dan Buyer, Jonas sucks him for Doug Gottlie Pierre Fox
Sports Radio. You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan
(12:16):
Buyer on Fox. You can get me at the Jonas
knox Um up next. So somebody is lying, all right,
there's clearly somebody lying. It's a major story in the
world of sports. We just don't know who it is yet.
Our next guest will tell you who he thinks it is.
That's next year on Fox Sports Radio. I do want
to tell you, though about Death Wish a right because
(12:36):
in theaters now Bruce Willis stars and Eli roths reimagination
of the original action film Death Wish. After a devastating
home invasion, a family man morphs into a badass revenge
machine when the system fails him, so he decides to
take matters into his own hands to protect his family.
The big question is whether the audience views him as
a hero or a villain based on how far he'll
(12:58):
go to protect his family. Bruce Willis becomes both a
force to reckon with and deeply human, full of swagger
with a bit of that classic Willis charm. Don't miss
this action thriller Death Wish in theaters. Now, there's a
better way to buy home insurance with Progressives new Home

rate all online. See for yourself how much you could
say at Progressive dot Com. Fool me one, Shame on you,
fool me twice, Shame on me. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm
Dan Buyer. That is John Ramos. Why could I be
talking about. Let'll get to that in a sect, but
first I want to let you know Today's shows brought
to you by Truecar. Car shopping can be confusing with
(13:40):
terms like dealer, price, list, price, and invoice. Truecar shows
you what other people paid for the car you want,
so you can recognize a good price when you're ready
to buy a new or used car. Visit true Car
to enjoy a more confident car buying experience. Can I
take a guess as to what you mean by that
absolutely case of say it again, fool me once, shim
on me, fool me twice, shame on you. Actually I
(14:06):
had it the wrong one, shame on you twice. Shame
I know what it is. Our guest is showing up
this segment. Is our guest is showing up this segment.
He did not flake. Fool me once, shame on you,
fool me twice, shame on me. From from say it once,
get it wrong, say it twice, get it right. That's
(14:28):
also sometimes those hours are the least things. Gosh, So
we were gonna we're gonna talk some Arizona basketball, and
I think that there's a lot to talk about, because
the fact is last night Arizona beat Stanford in a
game that was very interesting for so many reasons. And
(14:50):
it all started earlier in the day when Sean Miller
had his press conference reading his statement on how he
is innocent of the charges that were levied against to
him in an ESPN report. It was then, prior to
last night's game against Stanford, that Sean Miller took the
court as the Arizona head coach once again after sitting
(15:11):
out last Saturday's game against Oregon. That was about. That
(15:31):
was Sean Miller's ovation as he came onto the floor
of the McHale Center last night in Tucson, Arizona. I
thought that was rama celebrating. Nobody was using the restaurant
in the case, Sean Miller gets a standing ovation from
the crowd prior to their game against Stanford, and Jonas,
I understand why the Arizona Wildcats and their fans would
(15:53):
be excited to see Sean Miller because they love Arizona basketball.
But there are so many things that just there me
about this whole situation, and it really doesn't even start
with the fan base at Arizona and what they did
last night. It kind of ends with it. What bothered
me Jonas yesterday was when Sean Miller made his statement
(16:14):
for all of the people that jumped down the ESPN
bandwagon a week ago when that report came out that
wanted to say, uh, this is it, Sean Miller is
done Zo and Arizona see you later a payers program.
A majority of those people then jumped to the other
side of the room after hearing Sean Miller speak for
(16:35):
about four minutes and seeing a few holes poked into
the ESPN report and it's it's the jumping back and
forth of it that I just don't understand, and I
don't understand Jonas and how an FBI investigation could be
so secretive and then all of a sudden shocked the
college basketball world last fall with the arrest of four
(16:56):
assistant coaches, and have nobody know that that is going
to happen for college basketball fans to think that Sean
Miller's statement was the end of this, and that is
that I just I don't understand Jonas. And that's why
I said, like the effect is, didn't we see this
with Louisville and with Rick Pettino and saying I didn't
know about the I didn't know about the stripper and
(17:19):
the escorts with the that's a rogue assistant. That's assistant
not doing it with my knowledge. And then all of
a sudden, this FBI investigation comes up again, which, by
the way, one of the four assistant coaches arrested by
the FBI came from Louisville, another one came from Arizona.
So why Arizona fans would think, hey, everything is, you
(17:41):
know what, We're good here? It just I don't understand it.
I don't understand how you can just get so such
little information and have an immediately, immediately change your mind.
There's also some people out there who still believe that O. J.
Simpson didn't nearly decapitate his wife in her driveway. There's
some people to believe that as well too. It's I'm
telling you, man, we have this thing and and I
(18:03):
don't know, I don't know if it's if glibal is
the right term, because I don't think it is. But
we all really, really really want to believe, like we
really do deep down we want to believe that everything
is normal and and and if somebody sells us something
like we all want to be sold, okay, like and
it doesn't matter. It just takes one sort of a
convincing argument and were we are we all buy in
(18:26):
and listen. I'm not immune to it. I'm like a
lot of you. I thought for years, every time I
lost a tooth, a fairy would show up in the
middle of the night and leave me two bucks and
a stick of gum I bought. I've totally bought into that, okay,
and I probably still do to a certain extent. Like
we just we we all want to believe this stuff
and can be sold so easily. How many times do
(18:49):
you have to be lied to over and over and
over again by your quote heroes in the world of
sports before you realize, Oh, they're just like us, they're
all full of crap. To neither all full of crap. Like,
there's no way that this entire article is all bogus,
just like the Seth wicker shampiece about the Patriots. There's
no way that every detail of it is bogus, because
(19:12):
if it is, then then who was it? Mark Leibaugh,
He should go right for the National Enquirer or the Onion. Okay,
that's what those those sites do, That's what those publications do.
But we we just are so easily sold on things,
and it continues to happen. I don't I really don't
understand it. I don't. I don't know how you could
be so thoroughly convinced when an Arizona assistant is already
(19:35):
has already been indicted by the FBI and the FBI
information and what is key here, And I understand completely
that we may never know what the FBI has, but
there is also a possibility that we could find out
and it's going to be a heck of a lot
more than what a Yahoo Sports report had or what
an ESPN report had. The Yahoo Sports report, you're sitting
(19:55):
there and you're seeing player's name. Guess what, Jonas, we
found out that Miles Bridges family did have a dinner
with an agent. He was actually ruled ineligible at one
point and then had to pay the money back for
the meal that occurred. To think that this is just
over with is shocking to me. And and the other
point about this is and this is actually where I
(20:16):
feel bad for Arizona and their fans. They're the ones
with something to lose in all of this. If Sean
Miller has found guilty of paying, whether it be DeAndre
Ayton or any other recruit or possible player, if there
is any more connection to the program of the a
payment would be made, he is likely to lose his job,
very likely that he would be dismissed. We found out
(20:38):
not only that if he is dismissed, that his contract
would likely pay pay him a majority of what is
left on it, so he wouldn't be out the money. Yet,
it's the Arizona basketball fans who would be with a
program that would be tarnished, likely phasing, facing sanctions, and
they're the ones who would have to show up to
the arena the next couple of years while their program
was on probation. Sean Miller would be at his home
(20:58):
with the ten million dollars in his bank, likely looking
for a new job that he would likely land in
the next two or three years once this thing would
blow over. Sean Miller had nothing to lose last night,
Arizona fans wanting and hoping that nothing has gone wrong
with their program, gave him a standing ovation when they
are the ones who have the most to lose, and
(21:19):
and when when you look at the fans and how
they get the support, but they are going to be
the ones who are really the true victims because their
love and their passion of their basketball program could be
in jeopardy based on the actions of one guy that
they just gave a standing ovation too. And for people
to sit there and hear Sean Miller speak for four minutes.
You ever see the King of Queen's episode when Arthur's
(21:40):
on on jury on jury duty and he's flip flopping
both ways after you hear the prosecution, after you hear
the defense, that's exactly what we've got going on right now.
Oh of course he couldn't. Of course o J couldn't
have done it. He was at his home. Oh wait,
but then this match done. You're going back and forth
with these things, and Sean Miller is the latest one
(22:01):
to talk. So now the mass, the masses end up
jumping from one side to another just because it's the
latest information they heard. This is just the tip of
the iceberg. The FBI has got so much. I'm sure
on what could happen for us to sit there and
think that this is all over with just because one
ESPN report at about three or four holes poked in it,
I think is naive. I'm telling you, man, it's all
(22:25):
around us. Right. There's somebody that you were on the
roads with and you don't even realize this, but within
the last year, somebody you shared a highway or a
road with earlier today actually thought they saw the Virgin
Mary inside a bag of Funyan's. Okay, Like those people
are out there, man, Like you can be sold anything,
(22:45):
Like somebody can sell you or talk you into anything,
like like it's those those infomercials in the middle of
the night. How many times I've been watching one of
those thing, knowing in the back of my mind I
don't need that and it's not gonna work, But I
kept watching because, man, you know I actually could use that.
I mean an ironing board that turns into a whiffleball bat.
(23:06):
Holy God, Like, give me some of that. Like we
just want to be sold these things, like how many?
How many times you have to be lied to before
you go? Yeah? You know what? Man? Whatever is it?
When's the tournament start in order now? And you can
get a second burden steel for just four while you're
rounding the bases. It's it's amazing. It's we we are.
(23:28):
We are so quick to judge. Yeah, and I get
the he's innocent until he's proven guilty and maybe I'm
putting the guilty. No, what I'm saying is four minutes
of a of a speech shouldn't just give you the
answer that you needed. And John Ramos yesterday when when
Doug was in you said you and John, I'm using
(23:49):
your words. John. You said, I'm naive to hope that
everything is is is well and good. Correct, that is
a fair And I actually have no problem with that.
Would by other's me as the people who saw the
ESPN report We're ready to convict Sean Miller, and then
hurd Sean Miller and then immediately jumped to the other
side without looking at the information that is out there
(24:10):
and said, oh, Sean Miller must not have done this. Well,
if you really step back and looked at Arizona had
one of the assistants that was arrested by the FBI
that the Sean Miller words were very very specific, and
then you think about maybe what is all there with
the what Sean Miller would actually have to lose. I'm
just saying, don't jump back and forth. I I when
(24:32):
I was told a long time ago, and that's not
to do with the FBI investigation, but someone who I
know well that has connected the college basketball it said
when there's smoke, there's forest fires. And I think that's
what you're going to get with college basketball. And it
may not be in this situation, but there's no reason
all of us and jump immediately off the Sean Miller
or onto the Sean Miller van wagen and think that
everything is gonna be dandy and college basketball because it's not.
(24:54):
Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here Fox
Sports Radio. You can get down on Twitter at Dan
Buyer on Fox. You can get me at the Jonas
Knocks up next there is so you're hearing somebody talked
about at the combine and they're being talked about way
too highly. All right, we'll tell you who that is
next year on Fox Sports Radio. But for all the
latest from her on the world of sports, A guy
(25:14):
who never lies. Steve de Seger, Good afternoon, gentlemen. You
know Sean Miller was so outraged and discussed it as
he put it by that report last Friday, it took
him six whole days to tell the country he was
actually outraged. And to that point, I argue this on
Sunday morning. The only reason Sean Miller didn't coaches because
he didn't want to answer questions in a pregame, halftime
or postgame interview which he would have had to. And
(25:36):
and I think that's the only reason why he didn't
coach less Saturday, which doesn't necessarily answer why he didn't
even fly back with the team. He literally just left
town on a road trip and went back to Arizona
and then six days later tells us how outraged he
is by reading a statement. Well, I mean it's Arizona,
though it's not like they've had any issues with their
football coaches, not at all or outrage By the way, Jonas,
(25:58):
you you getting two bucks from the tooth fairy? We
got two quarters? How how did you get two dollars? Sir? Well, listen,
I have Vaneers, Steve, all right, we're not on the
air so I can talk about this. I have Vaneers.
But when I was younger, it looked like my tongue
was in jail. And let me just tell you, let
me just tell you, you look like the dog in cocoa. Yes,
(26:18):
that was pity. Okay, it was pitty. All right. Listen,
we know it's not working in the front, So why
don't we give you a couple of extra bucks for
what went on the back. And let's just hope they
all pushed together, and they did not, so that went
towards my veneer fund. Later if anybody had deserved a
couple of extra bucks. I'm not sure our teeth were
actually out officially, and we just they were gone in
the parting. Let's get to the NBA News with j R. Smith.
(26:39):
When you were talking about earlier, if You guys were
looking at how to characterize that disagreement with the Cleveland
assistant coach. Maybe since it was a bowl of soup
thrown at him, maybe they had a beef, you might say,
because the Calves Jared Smith was suspended for last night's game.
There ten NBA contest tonight, Cleveland not in action. The
late game will at Minnesota at Utah. There's college basketball
(26:59):
right now. The Big Ten Tournaments quarterfinals today at Madison
Square Garden Number two. Michigan State edged Wisconsin sixty three
to sixty. Miles Bridges twenty points and nine rebounds. Halftime.
Michigan leads Nebraska thirty twenty four, Nebraska seven for thirty
shooting from the floor. As for the NFL news, the
forty Niners want a coin toss today, so select ninth,
(27:22):
not tenth overall at next month's NFL Draft. Tiger Woods
will play in two more p g A events, both
near his Florida home before next month's Masters. Back to you,
do we know if the forty Niners called heads and
it was heads? Or do they just have a Raiders
forty Niners coin? No, we do, we do not. I
did see pictures of John Gruden there, I did not
(27:44):
hear audio. It would be great if the Raiders actually
won the toss of deferred and didn't realize that they
needed to take the ninth picketstead of the you know
the way their last fifteen years have gone. That thanks
a lot. By the way, can I say this real quick, Dan? Yeah?
You know how we were talking about, like, you know,
some of these headlines like they should be like like
(28:05):
if if he completely butchered that entire article talking about
an FBI probe, like he should be writing for The
Onion or National Enquirer. So ClickHole is apparently some website
or something. I think they do sort of gag headlines,
and this is a This was retweeted by The Onion
like moments after we said that. Here's the headline. Major scandal.
(28:28):
Greg Popovich is taking an indefinite leave from coaching after
admitting to taking home a basketball for personal use. Like really,
we really think Schli like that's what he wrote, Like
stuff like that just completely made up. This is the
Dutli Show. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer, John rolmost
here as well. Think about that. You're willing to believe
(28:49):
Sean Miller speaking for four minutes, the Mark Slavell putting
his entire career on the line of this, he would
always be known as look at look at Mortenson from ESPN,
A long time respected insider. But how many times will
Patriot fans never forgive him for reporting the numbers and
(29:11):
at the flight gate And when Mortenson reports something, I
will accept what he says because I feel that his
sources are are are strong, and he's had the history
out of side. But the fact is is there's a
whole part of the United States that will never ever
trust anything that Chris Mortenson said just because of that
one report. Mark Schlabaw is doing this with I mean,
(29:34):
his entire career on the line, coming out with FBI information,
and so that's where it's to me, It's like, alright,
what's who again? Who has more to lose? And why
are is everyone believing the guy who really has the
least amount to lose? You think Sean Miller has the
most to lose because he could lose his job and
he's had a big program. But it's the exact opposite.
(29:54):
It's the guy who has less that may not ever
be able to get what he's got. Sean Miller's Miller
has millions and would get another job within five years
if he ended up losing his job at Arizona, So
Sean Miller doesn't have anything to lose as much to
losing this as people would like to think. I was
seventeen years old and at Zuma seven, the beach Zuma
seven out here in Malibu, and I had a like
(30:17):
a boogie board and I turned as a wave was
crashing in and it completely knocked me on my ass
and dragged me across these rocks because there was a
lot of rocks over in that area. So my whole
back was scratched up and bleeding. And I got out
of the water and it didn't really hurt all that much,
kind of stung with the salt water and all that.
(30:37):
And somebody asked me, oh my god, what happened? And
I told him a dolphin bit me. I swear to God,
I swear to God. Like ten years later, one of
my buddies was talking with another friend who was sort
of an acquaintance in school and like, yeah, my buddy
Jonas or whatever, and he's like, oh, is that the
guy who got attacked by dolphins at Zuma was a
(31:00):
total lie, like not even not even possible that it
dolphin attacked me and it was believed for ten years?
Like what what? Like? People will believe anything. Man, It's amazing.
It's amazing. It's it's it's amazing. And to see the
emotions that are tied into it, to see how people
are just willing to go along with what they want
(31:22):
to believe and what they hope is the case is
it's listen, it's it's a grand scheme of things. But
just to see what I saw over this last week
on social media, in the tweets that I saw last
Friday and Saturday about Sean Miller, and then what I
saw yesterday about Sean Miller and so many people now
taking the side. I'm not saying he's guilty, and I'm
(31:44):
not saying he's guilty before, but I'm just saying, keep
it open in mind, and whatever has happened in the
last seven to ten days really shouldn't have changed your
mind on how you truly feel, because not enough has
come out of the act, not enough information, not enough
evidence has come out to really sway you either way.
(32:05):
And That's what I'm getting to. If you think college
basketball is corrupt, you should probably still think college basketball
is corrupt. If you don't think college basketball has any problems,
you should probably still think it doesn't have any problems.
There's nothing in this last week that really should have
showed you that you should feel any different about it.
Because Jones were poking holes, and in what Yahoo does,
we're pokeing holes, and what ESPN does, We're trying to
(32:26):
think what Sean Miller says and putting it up on
a pedestal. None of that should sway you for how
you really feel. What should sway you is if the
FBI ever comes out with those documents and they become public,
that should give you the real answer, because they're the
ones who will truly find the real answer. I don't
care if if Sean Miller paid a hundred thousand dollars
to each one of his players to get a sex
(32:46):
change win my bracket. For me, that's it. I'm still
watching the tournament. Does not matter, does not matter. Golden
tea clap, Dan, that is a golden tea clap. Clearly,
that is a golden tea. We were, we were supposed
to talk about the combine it we got caught up
in Sean Miller. Ralphie tweets in. John Lynch was on
the Herd and he told Colin that they actually do
have a Raiders Niners coin. So they make a coin
(33:09):
specifically to figure out you want to talk about waste
of money? Yeah, you know, waste of money. To go
and tell him, Mints, we need a forty Niners logo
on one side, we need a Raiders logo on another.
Make this so we can figure out who is going
to pick ninth in the draft. Yet yet, Jonas and
John they will not do this for the Super Bowl.
(33:31):
They say, okay, Eagles, you're the visiting team. You know
you guys will call uh, this is the head. It's
got the Eagle with the flag on the other side
of the Vince Lombardi Trophy with the two helmets, and
you're thinking it shouldn't the helmets be head because you
wear it on your head and you have no idea
what's heads or tails. If they could do this for
the draft, the NFL should actually make a coin for
(33:51):
the Super Bowl that just as Eagles or Patriots and
call it good. Isn't it fantastic that they can get
the Raiders and the forty Niners a joint coin and
have them stand side by side while they flip at
a determined draft selection. But they can no longer play
preseason games because the fans are too drunken, too chilent.
Like because because a guy at a Jeff Hosstetler Jersey
(34:13):
threw down with a guy a gang member and a
Tom Rathman Jersey three years ago, like, we can't add
those anymore. I couldn't believe. Elvis Girbach jumped in, Do
you believe that? All right? Dan Barr, Jonas Socks and
for Doug gott leevir Fox Sports Radio. As conditions on

I'm I'm picturing Jonas surfing at Zuma Beach with this music. Well,
I had to dolphin, had to do with that story,
had a little bit to do with the sunshine out
today here beautiful Los Angeles, and so that song is
called California Son, his son seven Sports, Johnny, Can we
please don't that story on the air, please. I don't
(35:21):
think it's going to translate. I just don't think it's
I think it's too much of an inside joke. I
I really do. The The guy who's our insider here
on the show is Steve de Sager, as he's gonna,
I don't know, play a little game. This is game
time on the Doug Gottlieb Show. All right, what game
(35:43):
do we have today, Steve John Ramos Game Today News
most psychic on a Friday. No, in fact, you are
not able to correctly predict what game we are playing today.
I thought it was the pot is Down fake news.
I thought that's what the I think it's fake news.
Were actually playing psychic. I will give you a little
(36:03):
headline and you tell me whether this is real news
or fake news. Easy to follow along, Gent's number one.
The Marshawn Lynch experiment might be coming to an end
with the Raiders. His reports are the Raiders are uncomfortable
with how much Lynch will make this next season and
could release him in order to save money. Is that
real news or fake news? I am going to say
(36:24):
there's a fifty percent chance. I will say real news. Steve,
I'll go with that as well. Real news. Yes. The
Las Vegas Review Journal says the team is uncomfortable with
his pay for the upcoming season could make a decision
to move on from him and save the money, and
they reported wide receiver Michael Crabtree is in the same boat.
(36:47):
It's not clear what the right price would be to
keep him, but maybe they just don't want to pay
the eight million that Lynch would be due as part
of the last season of his two year deal. Crabtree
schedule to make seven mill in base salary. That marsh
Shohn Lynch, Dan, let me tell you that Marshawn Lynch
gonna get himself cut. Let me tell you that Dan,
the guy who did say last month if he wants
(37:09):
to be at the Raiders full time, boy needs to
be in Shade for the coming well, let's be honest.
The Marshall Lynch signing was also to try to make
Oakland fans feel better about their team leaving in three years. Now,
you've got the John Gruden distraction, so you don't need
that other distraction for the eighteen season. So it's just
it's a great game of three card Monty that the
Raiders are playing to try to distract the fans from Ay,
(37:30):
the countdount is on of your team leaving that Michael
Crabtree there, Dan, that Michael crab has got great hands, man,
great hands. He's gonna need those hands to pick up
some some employment papers somewhere else. Getting cut, Dan, I did,
I thought I've heard Chris collins Worth on the show.
I don't know, I do it. You gotta bring a
(37:50):
owl still geling. I I gotta tell you story to
real news fake news, Thank you very much. Heisman Trophy
winner Baker may Field told reporters today at the combine,
if anyone's gonna turn around the Cleveland Browns, it's gonna
be me. Is that real news or fake news? On that,
he said that, I mean that's fake come on the yes.
(38:13):
Baker Mayfield said that. He also said, I don't think
I'm coming cocky, just confident. Whichever team I go to,
I'm not gonna settle for a backup job. And he
referred to himself as the most accurate quarterback in this
draft by far end quote, Have I told you guys
my idea about NFL combines? I reveal this on Sunday.
You should have NFL combines like the farm equipment that
(38:36):
you could get like a packer, a packer harvester, a Bears,
like an Iowa. Think about that. Just a huge Bears tractor,
you know that harvest on actual NFL combines. I think
that that's a way for the NFL to spread their product.
But with specific logos on the side, you can get
an idea and who's interested in whom. Like the door
(38:57):
would have the logo on it, you just have a
stripe going up the back of the tractor, just like
a regular helmet. I think it would be great. I
would I would kill not literally, not literally, but I
would kill to be in the interrogation room during comby
weekend for Baker Mayfield. I want to know which team
is the first to ask him why he grabbed his crotch.
Who do you think it would be Dan, who's the
(39:18):
first news? All right, That's not the only question that's
gonna come up in those private conversations. Goodness, like why
like why were you chased down by Somata shape Arkansas cops? Okay?
Like what does that say about your forty times bake?
Frantar contend you're a nut? Apparently? Next item. Seahawks quarterback
Russell Wilson had one at bat during Yankee spring training
(39:41):
today where he hit a lead off double bottom of
the fifth inning. Real news or fake news? Uh? Fake news?
You don't even get a chance. I was gonna say
fake now. He didn't get to stand in the batter's
box of a real spring training game for the Yankees today,
but went down swinging pinch hitting for Aaron Judge bottom
of the fifth today. By the way, worked at two
two count and then struck out on a fastball. He's
(40:03):
been with the Yankees all week, taking BP, fielding groundballs
at second base. I knew that he didn't hit a
double because if Russell Westbrook was running, he would probably
run away from second base like he was trying to
avoid defenders. Is game time on the duck? Got leave show?
You missed Steve Hutchinson, Yes, Yes, I do, Yes, Sam,
(40:26):
and Walter Jones. By the way, Dan, the only thing
colder than winner is the thought of being stranded in it.
That's why auto Zone offers free battery testing in a

Real News and Johnny Ramos, Yeah, we're calling him on
(40:46):
a BKR edition here on Fox Sports Radio. Rolling along
this afternoon is getting into the weekend. We've got Arch
Madness from St. Louis and of course the Big Ten
Tournament rolling on from Addison Square Garden. And this is
really the start of Championship week in college basketball. And
with all the scandals that have been going on, Jonas,
(41:07):
it is interesting because this is the most we've cared
about college basketball in the last ten years. So we've
got that. Um. Look, let's let's just say what it
is in the regular season in college basketball. The three
biggest stories in the last two years in the regular season,
we're one in college basketball LaVar ball, uh, the scandal
(41:30):
where recruits are being paid, and Grace and Allen tripping
people really what it is? So I mean, I'm sorry, man,
Like I'm just not gonna get worked up over college basketball.
Just fill my bracket out and win me some money.
That's it. I want different story when it comes to
college football and college football in the NFL. Uh mending
(41:51):
worlds at the NFL Combine as the best in college
who are hoping to make it to the next level
continue to work out in Indianapolis, and the big story
today centers around former Penn State running backs se Kwon
Barkley and I guess Jonas. It's from the tweet sent
out by NFL Research taking in sae Kwon Barkley's numbers
that he had today at the NFL Combine, breaking down
(42:14):
his numbers at the bench press, the ten yard split,
the forty yard dash, and the vertical jump. This from
NFL Research about an hour ago, saying that sae Kwon
Barkley is stronger than Joe Thomas, the Brown's tackle, quicker
than the Seawan Jackson, the Buccaneers wide receiver, faster than
Devin Hester, the recently retired All Pro kick returner and
(42:36):
punt returner, and he jumps higher than Julio Jones. Who
could be headed to Canton right now. As a member
of the Atlanta Falcons. Sae Kwon Barkley tested better than
those four athletes did in specific events at the NFL Combine.
So the buzz today is all about the Penn State
running back and how well he has performed so far
in his tights in tank top. Well, first of all,
(42:58):
let's don't throw those to add a details in because
I'd like to continue the rest of the show. And
I almost just fainted. Let's glass ice water. Good god,
there's there's nothing like bike short Olympics. I mean it
it is. I don't know what it is, man, but
here's so. I'm hearing all those those stats and I'm
hearing all those numbers being put up, and I mean,
(43:21):
that does it Dan, Because when I hear those, I
think Mike Mamula. And we know Mike Mullah had a
fifteen year NFL career and he turned into a Hall
of Famer, So I mean, you know those kind of
freak workout abilities, Like I'm gonna go, Mike Mamula, that's
my comp Just like we've been warning people to not
jump and change your opinion about college basketball or Sean
(43:41):
Miller or the FBI investigation, don't change your opinion or
jump to conclusions based on a couple of first round
running backs that have had success in the NFL, and
specifically Jonas, we look at Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard four Nett. Now,
Ezekiel Elliott being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys fourth over
all lead to him being a great NFL rookie leading
(44:04):
the Cowboys or helping the Cowboys that season to the
best record of the NFC. Then we see Leonard Fournette
and go to Jacksonville and help them get to the
a f C Championship games. So now as people want
to look at what Sae Kwon Barkley could bring to
the NFL, you immediately think, and this is what I
what I'm afraid is out there, is that Sae Kwon
(44:24):
Barkley is going to be the difference for a team
in being a has been or an also ran, or
a team that can contend for a Super Bowl and
be in the playoffs. And I just think, Jonas that
it is a road that you've got to be very
very careful to travel on if you're trying to compare
Sae Kwon Barkley to Ezekiel Elliott and to Leonard Fournette
(44:46):
because the numbers may match up, and that may be
running bench press, but the fact is, I'm not sure
that the actual scenarios match up when it comes to
Sae Kwon Barkley. I really think that people try and
do these these comparisons to what happened recently and just
assume that that's gonna work every time, and not realizing
that sometimes there's just anomalies and the whole thing, and
(45:09):
Ezekiel Elliott being a success at number four for the
Dallas Cowboys and people assuming all right, well that's your move.
You take a running back that high, that's an anomaly.
Let's not forget that same offensive line the year before that,
Darren McFadden had a thousand yards Okay, like that was
a whole different situation to where that old line was
(45:30):
ready to go and a top two to three offensive
line already in the NFL. You insert Ezekiel Elliott there,
and all of a sudden, you've got a superstar running
back that you took number four. But let's not forget
that Ezekiel Elliott wasn't their first choice. Their first choice
was Carson Wentz. They didn't they Ezekiel. They took him
only because Carson Wentz was already off the board. So
(45:52):
I just think that people look at it because it
happened so recently and they assume, oh, there it is,
that's that's the guy we should be thinking about. I
can is for you. Man like Jordan Howard was what
a fifth round pick. He's had as good of a
career as a heel plaid so far, with no off
field issues whatsoever, and he's won the same number of
playoff games. I just I don't I mean, I don't know.
(46:13):
I just think this is like taking a running back
this high, unless you're the Browns and you've got a
second top five pick. I just don't see it. I
personally wouldn't do it, Dan, And that's clearly why we
are doing daytime rading. Well, the fact is there are
people who still think that Ezekiel Elliott was the wrong
pick for the Dallas Cowboys, not because of the six
(46:34):
games that he missed this past year, but just for
the simple fact of the value. And you mentioned Jordan
Howard and what Dallas maybe could have gotten at that
fourth spot. You also talk about that offensive line. And
when you're talking about success in the NFL, if you're
trying to figure out how you become successful offensively in
the National Football League, don't look to the Jacksonville Jaguars
(46:55):
as being the reason. Don't try to bring Leonard four
Nett in his situation and into the equation in the
National Football League. Jonas. Take the Philadelphia Eagles for the
team that just won the Super Bowl, just for the
simple fact of NBC. NBC had the Super Bowl this
past year, and Chris collins Worth and and his ownership
(47:16):
or shares of of Pro Football Focus, they will put
on the screen where each player ranks in their position
according to Pro Football Focus. And when you go across
the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line, you had Jason Kelsey the
number one rated center. You had Lane Johnson one of
the top three right tackles in all of football. You
(47:36):
did have Jason Peters at one time when he was
healthy as one of the top left tackles in all
of football. And it's the same thing with the Dallas
Cowboys as you alluded to, when you have Zack Martin
Tyrn Smith. I mean, when you have got players at
the positions that you need of that that are all
pro players, you're gonna have an easier time running the football.
(47:59):
And so when se Kuon Barkley would be drafted in
the NFL and you break down those teams that have it,
whether it's Cleveland one, the Giants to the Colts, three,
the Browns again at four in Denver five the Giants
said arguably one of the worst offensive lines in football
last year. The Colts don't have much. You are not
a running back away from winning in Indianapolis, and Denver
(48:23):
still can't get their offensive line correctly, even after addressing
it in the draft and in the off season last
year via free agency. So when you when you look
at those situations, sa Kuon Barkley isn't gonna take either
of those teams and lift them. And I do think
that Cleveland would likely be the best spot for him.
And I think Cleveland's offensive line is better than the
(48:43):
other three teams that I've mentioned, but it isn't the fixxal.
If you're say the New York Giants, the last thing
the New York Giants need, in my mind, is someone
else who would need to dominate the ball where you
would then take it out of the playmakers that you've
surrounded Eli Manning with the New Orleans dark one wing
gall in backfield, in my mind, would suit the Giants
just fine if you could just address the issues that
(49:05):
you have at the offensive line and like, and that's
the other thing you want to talk about, Like if
people actually want to sit here and go, okay, well,
let's let's really let's really break this down, all right,
Let's let's break this down here. All right. So so
you know, the Indianapolis coach, you know you need some
stars there, all right. You know, we believe in this.
It's about surrounding Andrew Luck with some talent. Let's surround
(49:26):
Andrew Luck with some talent, all right, Yeah, so get
him a running back, you know, because by the way,
you want to know how good that Indianapolis offensive line is.
Their offensive line is so good that Andrew Luck spent
time in like effing is stanbol to do some weird
treatment where they bring out a Uiji board and some
blood capsules to try and see if that can heal
his body because he's basically a crash test dummy and
(49:48):
his career might be permanently ruined because of the offensive
line he played behind. It doesn't make sense, Like, it
doesn't make sense to take a guy that high in
the draft the only team there are two team hims
in the top ten who have good offensive lines. One
of them is the Bears and the other is the Raiders.
The Bears ain't taking him at eight because he probably
(50:10):
won't be there and the Raiders aren't going. Maybe the
Raiders would take him at ten if he was sitting
on the board, But other than that, I just I
don't know how it makes. It makes any sense, and
especially at a position where you know those guys break
down before every other position that you rely on in football.
Like if you Dan, if you knew you weren't walked
onto a car lot and the dealer told you, I
(50:32):
think this is the one you should pay top dollar
four because it's gonna break down after twenty thousand miles.
You say, get out of here. I'm gonna pay top dollar.
I want to get my money's worth. Why are you
paying top dollar for a position that you know is
going to break down sooner than everybody else. Doesn't make sense. Yeah,
in Oakland, they've run his own blocking scheme for the
last two years. When you brought in um Glacio, smile
(50:52):
you have Donald Penn as a left tackle, and you've
got guys who are malers, and yet you're using them
in a different It just it. There are a lot
of things that have to go right if you're in
the NFL and making a running game go well, and
Jacksonville had the defense to back it up, Dallas had
an offensive line that allowed them to lean on Ezekiel Elliott.
(51:12):
Those are those are more exceptions to the rule of
what we've seen in the NFL. And and when when
you're pointing about any of the teams in the top
ten of really needing a guy, you said, the Bears,
they're set with Jordan how different for for what he
has done in their offensive line. Wherever Sae Kwon Barkley goes.
We could drool all over the numbers. He was gonna
be a top five pick likely anyway, whether we believe
(51:33):
he should be or not. Today, I guess it's just
a a hype day because there really wasn't anything that
came out except when you're comparing the numbers that how
how well that he did that would change his draft stock. Like,
I don't think that if you're Cleveland. Cleveland, you're now
thinking about him at number one when you have been
searching for a franchise quarterback for twenty years. I don't
think that changed now if sae Kwon Barkley turns out
(51:55):
to be a Hall of Famer twenty years from now,
I want what's called stale old Takes or what's that
lame website called dork Takes or whatever. They don't know,
the nerds that run that website, uh like uh icy
hot Takes or whatever they're called. I want them to
know that Dan and I were only doing this to
(52:16):
try and see if anybody was listening. That's it, all right,
So if we are completely wrong, we will we will
accept the punishment, but just know that we're doing this
is sort of a reverse I called. Well, this is
what you're going to get over the next couple of
weeks quickly is now you're gonna get mock drafts because
of how wellse Kuon Barkley did in the combine. And
you're going to see drafts mock that se Kwon Barkley
is going to go number one overall, thinking that the
(52:36):
Browns instead would get their quarterback at number four. Well,
if the Giants ended up taking a quarterback at number
two that could take one of them off the board,
and you never know, the Colts could be up for
sale for their third overall. Big for a team to
jump up and try to draft the quarterback, but I
think you're going to see people over react to see
Kwon Barkley and put human number one in mock drafts,
which would be read absolutely ridiculous. I don't care. I
(52:59):
don't care if you don't know who your number one
quarterback is going to be, whether it be Donald, whether
it be Rosen or Baker Mayfield, whoever it is. You
cannot take a running back number one overall, and I
guarantee it, mark my words. Sometime in the next week
you will see a mock draft with someone having sake
Kwan Barkley going number one. I haven't heard anything of
that bad since somebody here Fox Sports Radio predicted that
Carson Wentz wouldn't even go in the first round. Today's

Your Twitter handle is well guys. Last week I was sick,
I was under the weather. That took a good time
for me to kind of look at my life and
see what I can do better for the future, for
my children and for my wife. And so today at J. S.
(55:13):
Ramos zero six, if that is amazing. It's different. It's different,
and John likes to mix it up to keep you
on your toes. That's that's exactly what he does. So
today J. S. Ramos zero six sickness will do that
for you under the weather all the way, John looks
good today. We had to get that on. Maybe that
should be your ten second sports stand. Maybe a ten
(55:35):
second sports at John's outfit. He's got glasses, he's got
he looked. You know, you look like Edward James almost,
except you're not ugly. Okay, like that, like seriously and
then like he's got a beanie on. That's very fashion forward.
I'm into it, man. Hey, I guys, I gotta get
something off my chest here. Okay, I just I really
have to get something talking on. Our new segment here
(56:00):
on Fox Sports Radio is called talking. Hey, Nebraska, you're
losing in the Big Ten tournament. On don't you go
back to Nebraska start picking some corn? Hey, Russell Wilson, No, no,
no talking, Hey, Russell Wilson, want you just stick the football?
You suck at baseball? Talking? Hey, Steve de Seger, why
(56:23):
don't you lay your hands off my sanitizer wipes? Racist talking?
Steph Curry, what are you doing golfing in the hotel room? Bro? Talking?
Hey Johnny, your Dodgers they've won like two games in
spring training. You're ready for a long season, Blue Boys? Hey,
Milwaukee Brewers, why don't you have a hat that doesn't
(56:44):
have an emine being it? Talking? That's our new segment
we came up with. Yeah, yeah, there it is. You
can you can you can talk with us, Yeah, at
Dan Buyer on Fox the Jonah Knocks or at J.
S Ramo Serial six. Sorry, Steve to Boost talking just
(57:05):
talking trash and not many people are talking good things
about the Seattle Seahawks. And you know, I'll call him
my Seahawks. But it's been an offseason of change with
the coaching staff. Pretty much everybody has gone of note
and there are some old faces in new places. Ken
Norton Jr. Brought back now is the team's defensive coordinator.
Brian Schottenheimer's the offensive coordinator. But it's not the only
(57:28):
change that is happening in Seattle. Is now there's talk
the Seahawks are shopping defensive lineman Michael Bennett and John Schneider,
the Seahawks GM saying that no one on that roster
is untouchable, making those comments to the Seattle Times, not
even Russell Wilson. Huh. It shouldn't be a surprise that
(57:48):
these comments are coming out today. And I don't think
that every player is available. I think Russell Russell Wilson
is safe and I think that Bobby Wagner is safe.
But as they were trying to trade Richard Sherman. Last year,
it should show you that the Seahawks knew that, you
know what, maybe now is the time where we need
to start looking ahead. This window of success that they
(58:11):
had really starting in the year that they before they
won Super Bowl forty eight, they ended up losing to
the Falcons in the playoff that in the playoffs at
that time. That window is now closed, and I think
the Seahawks realized it last year. What they are now
dealing with now is they don't have guys with any value.
With the the Michael Bennett being available, I don't think
(58:32):
that there are many teams wanting a defensive end who
is over thirty. That his play is dropped in the
last couple of years, and it's also making a certain
amount of money that that he would expect. There's no
trade value in that. Plus, if you think that Seattle
is going to release Michael Bennett anyway, the only reason
you would trade something is you would think that there
would be a market with other teams, and you want
(58:53):
to get your hands on the player before other teams would.
I don't think that there's a market for him. But
the Seahawks and what they have done and how their
team has been constructed, not only Jonas. Is it time
to reload. It's really a time to rebuild because their
entire defensive line is likely to change over with Bennett leaving,
with Cliff Avrol having his neck injury, there is there's
just not a lot there for the Seahawks. And it's
(59:16):
just one of those times where guess what, the window
is closed, and now the Seattle cs are gonna have
to deal with maybe holding onto some of these guys
a little bit too long. And if you were holding
out hope that that Michael Bennett was going to be
a member of the Raiders when they went to Las Vegas,
I wouldn't hold that hoping. I just think there's some
all field incident. Incident probably would lead me to believe
that the Raiders when they moved to Vegas wouldn't be
(59:37):
a team in the market for Michael Bennett. Here's here's
what I was thinking, Mary. We were talking about this
a year or so ago, about how you can only
run hot for so long and where it's just go, go, go, go,
go go at a certain point like that just does
not like the the staying power doesn't work. And we
(59:58):
made the compared We were talking at the time about
Jim Harbaugh, how he's a constant go, go go, and
that's why he burns out so quick at every stop,
to where either he gets tired of the place he's
at or the place gets tired of him. And so
the idea of Jim harbab being this long tenured coach
at Michigan and all that stuff, that's that's that's not
just not even possible. As Rex Ryan would say, it's
(01:00:19):
not accurate. But when it comes to the Seattle Seahawks,
they just ran so hot for so long and it
was so in your face for so long. Just I mean,
the shelf life of that just isn't long. Man. I mean,
you got a Super Bowl, you should have had a
second one. I think it's been a total success. But
I'm really fascinated to see what now, because now you've
(01:00:40):
got to come up with a second act. You've got
to come up with a CounterPunch now, and I and
I don't know where they start. This is where the
NFL party really comes into play, because when you try
to think of how do you become a successful NFL team,
and when you look at how the NFL has been
the last few years, and really, let's just take it
back the last six years or so, I've argued and
(01:01:02):
others have as well. It's not new that you don't
need a eight in elite quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Now,
it's very nice to have Tom Brady, but Tom Brady
is the exception to the rule, really, Jonas when you
look at it of the quarterbacks that have won. And
this goes to the point of, well, okay, how do
we build a winning team. Well, let's draft, well, we'll
get a bunch of young guys in, we'll give ourselves
(01:01:24):
some salary cap flexibility, will put together a team and
then it can win for the next five or ten years.
Well that's not accurate, as Rex Ryan would say as well,
because because if you do draft well, there actually is
a penalty to drafting well, and that is having to
sign all of these guys. And when you get value
in the lower rounds, they are not under contracts where
(01:01:46):
you can lock them up for a fifth year. So
you have got you have got guys who are on
shorter contracts for their rookie year that you have to
pay a year sooner than maybe hitting on a first
round pick. So while it may seem great that you
drafted well and that you have set your foundation for
the next ten years. Maybe it's only five years. Maybe
(01:02:08):
it's only four years because the NFL parody doesn't allow you,
and it's and it's not so much of a lot
is man about the Seahawks offensive line and how they
are the worst in the NFL in the in the
investment that they put in them. Some of that's true
and some of that isn't. The Seahawks have actually had
not a lot of luck in drafting offensive lineman. Early on,
(01:02:28):
Justin britt was a second round pick. Um even Postage
from LSU was a second round pick. They took Jermaine
ef Fetti in the first round. These are guys that
you would think that you would bring in and not
to geek out on the Seahawks, but the fact is, Jonas,
they missed on first and second round guys, so it's
not like they left that. Where they were really hurt
is back to this defensive line part. Because they lost
(01:02:50):
a lot of their defensive tackles, they didn't have depth
at the position, and they were hurting the running game.
So while the defense was great and overall really well,
there was some deterioration that you didn't allies, and now
all of a sudden you've got some of these older
guys or these star players getting older, and then you realize, wow,
we just don't have a lot on this front because
we've also then had to pay Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner,
(01:03:12):
Cam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, all those guys, and Russell Wilson.
It's all a domino effect. But it's really interesting to
just see how the NFL. It's there's no easy solution
to win. There's no easy solution to just tear it
all down, build it up and have success for ten years.
That the parody is so amazing because there is no
one right way to do it, and the right way
to do it Jonas may not even guarantee long term success.
(01:03:35):
Rex Ryan. When you hear people talk about rebuilding in
the NFL like it's just an easy quick fix, what
is your thoughts? It's not accurate. It's not accurate. Listen
theah The fact ism when people say the Seahawks haven't
invested in their offensive line not true at all, because
they did with draft picks and they haven't worked out.
(01:03:57):
They really actually took a hit in the middle of
their defensive line. That's that's the true story. Uh Dan
Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox
Sports Radio. As conditions on the field change, so can
your insurance needs? Talk with a farmer's agent today so
you can assess whether your policy is game ready. Find
an agent at Farmers dot com. Are Farmers? That is accurate? Now?
(01:04:20):
I I I believe it is. By the way, you
know what else is accurate. What we have next for you,
do not go anywhere, because we've got next for you
is really really accurate and you may not ever hear
it on another show again. That's next on the sports radio.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports,
Steve de Seger guys Nebraska playing in its conference tournament
right now. One college basketball writer last week said Nebraska
(01:04:42):
finishing thirteen and five in the Big Ten Conference this
year was a sign of how bad the Big Ten
was in basketball this year. Nebraska had started overall seven
and five on the season, including losses to St. John's
and Central Florida, and yet they wind up with the
same conference record as Michigan, which is fifteenth in the country.
They face each other head to head in a quarterfinal
(01:05:03):
right now at Madison Square Garden, and with two minutes left,
Michigan is up sixty nine fifty four and in fact,
Nebraska is shooting only twenty eight percent from the floor.
Number two Michigan State edge Wisconsin sixty three to sixty.
Ten NBA games coming up tonight, Tiger Woods will play
in two more p g A Tour events, both near
as Florida home before next month's Masters. Woods did not
(01:05:24):
qualify for this week's tournament, which is w GC event.
He's ranked three hundred sixty nine in the world. In
Mexico City, Jordan's Beef and Dustin Johnson each at minus
five four strokes, back of the co leaders in Mexico
right now, Xanders Shockley the US one of those co leaders.
He has a couple holes still to go in his
second round. The forty Niners want a coin toss today.
They will select ninth overall. In next month's NFL draft,
(01:05:47):
the Raiders will choose tenth, and the Yankees gape better
in first baseman Adam Lynn the minor league deal. Back
to you, thanks Stephen again. It would be actually better
if they were like the forty Niners one Paper Rock
Scissors against the Raiders today for the ninth Overall, there
were ways to do it, they could have, but the
the coin toss is the way to go. He's Jonas Knox.
I'm Dan Buyer. That is Jon Romos. We are in
(01:06:07):
for Dug Today on the Doug gott Leaps Show. I'm
a Dan Buyer on Fox Jonas. They can get you
at at the Jonas Knox and John Ramos. Your Twitter
handle is what's today Friday? Yes Friday, Yes at j S.
Ramos six six zero six h. The NFL Combine is
(01:06:27):
rolling on. I just have a question for you on
Rock Paper scissor. It's really important. I just thought of it.
Isn't there one that trumps everything? Like if you go
to this, it takes out everybody. Because I was always
taught that if you give a middle finger, you win
the entire game, Like even if you're down to to
nothing at the best of five, like you win the
entire game if you go on middle fingers. That true.
(01:06:49):
There was a bit on a TV show that said,
like what beats rock? Nothing beats rock because rock flies
right through paper. But the joke and I forget the
TV show, And I'm not trying to steal it from
from anyone, but that was always the joke, and I
always gotta yeah. One beats rock, nothing beats rock. So
then it was constantly one to three rock, one to
three rock. Speaking of rock, let's check Todd Marinovitch his
(01:07:11):
back pocket. Come on, Jonas, come on, Oh you know
what you're doing right there talking? Yeah, Pittsburgh Pirates, you
got one wind so far in Grapefruit play? How sweet
is that? Not talking? Hey? Eric Hosper, why don't you
just stay in Kansas City? The Patres are horrible? You
(01:07:33):
suck talking? Hey, Montreal, nice baseball team talking? Hey, Jonas,
have fun with Jarvis Landry. He stinks talking. Hey, Missouri
Valley Conference and arch madness. Uh, Bradley Braves, you ain't
looking too tough right now, losing to Drake talking. Oh
(01:07:54):
there's it. Okay, that's it. Sorry, Cooper, Cooper, our intern
goes to Bradley and his him is down eight right
now at the half. I didn't mean to I'm sorry, Cooper.
I didn't mean to angle it towards the Bradley Braves.
Let's just change topics. It's better to do that. NFL
combine today and Lamar Jackson again the topic of conversation.
(01:08:14):
And it's funny because with the Sean Miller n C
double A thing, I hear, I hear two things about
about that. The n C double A is going to
nail all these colleges and Arizona is innocent. Those are
the two things that here there. And then I hear
Lamar Jackson is going to be a star in the NFL,
and Lamar Jackson should switch to wide receiver. And it's
(01:08:36):
this narrative, the Lamar Jackson And for some reason, Jonas,
I don't get why people don't get how it would
be offensive for Lamar Jackson to be asked to play
wide receiver, because I don't understand. I've seen and I
don't want to be broad about this, but I've seen
(01:08:58):
this today off people saying like, well, it's a Legit
questioned if he's going if he could play wide receiver,
Why in the most important position in the National Football
League would you want a guy to change positions? And
the comparisons that we have seen from well, hey, Tim
Tebow could have been a tight end. Tim Tebow A
(01:09:19):
never would refuse, never would never would turn in his
quarterback card to be a tight end. He refused to
play any other position but quarterback, and Tim Tebow was
given chance after chance after chance to prove that he's
a quarterback. But somehow it's all right to not give
Lamar Jackson any opportunity to become a quarterback in the NFL.
(01:09:39):
And that's the problem that I just I don't see
how people can think, like, well, it's not a really
big deal if they ask him to be quarterback, are
you Are you kidding? You haven't even given him a
chance to succeed on an NFL field, whether you think
his accuracy is good, bad, or mediocre, He hasn't even
been given the opportunity because you already want to make
him switch positions. That is absurd to me. Well, and
(01:10:01):
people making the comparison to Matt Jones, the Arkansas quarterback
who is a converted wide receiver in Jacksonville, Like people,
are you know making those comparisons? Like you know, what's wrong?
Are those compares? Oh? That's right, because Matt Jones is
a cokehead. Sorry, that's what's wrong with those comparisons. I
I apologize. I would slipped away from me for a minute, here,
but Albert Brier. This is something of note because there's
(01:10:23):
been this report the several teams had asked Lamar Jackson
about playing wide receiver. Albert Breer just put a quote
out from Lamar Jackson that said, quote, no teams have
asked me to play receiver. I don't even know where
that's coming from. I'm strictly a quarterback. Whoever likes me
a quarterback, That's where I'm going. So again another media
spin to start a race war in the media has
(01:10:44):
again turned into this, and who knows if that's even true.
It's not. It's amazing. Well, I just I look at it.
I look at it as the simple fact of if
you look at the quarterbacks that you have in the
NFL draft, the quarterbacks with mobility and guys who are
going to move around are Baker Mayfield in the Marja Xon.
If I've got a junk offensive line and one that
isn't gonna be able to protect anyone, I may want
(01:11:06):
to put those guys under center if everything is equal,
compared to as Sam Donald or a Josh Rosen when
you're when you're thinking about a Jonas for just to
be able to have your quarterbacks survive playing against a
porous offensive line. Those are some of the strengths of
Lamar Jackson. I just the the fact is we're not
asking white quarterbacks to change without even giving them an opportunity.
(01:11:28):
Terrell Prior actually ended up making the switch from quarterback
to wide receiver in the NFL, and there was a
time at Ohio State, even during a Fiesta bole early
on in his career, where they utilized him in packages
in the wide receiver in the wide receiver position. He
was given an opportunity to play quarterback in the NFL,
multiple opportunities, and it ended up not working out. But
the fact of just Lamar Jackson specific situation, I just
(01:11:51):
think it's so absurd and I do think it is
a little ridiculous, and maybe we're taking shots at London's
and calumnists and people who react to this of of
of what the conversation really is. If NFL people are
apparently sold as you just said that they are on
Lamar Jackson from Albert Brewers quote, this is a non
issue and this is us just drumming it up in
(01:12:12):
the media of being a conversation because he should get
the opportunity to do it and Apparently all thirty two
teams in the NFL seemed to agree. There is, though,
when you do these comp things where I do believe
that there's a race element to it. Like everyone was
instantly the immediate comparison that Baker Mayfield got was Johnny Manziel.
(01:12:33):
Like it's it's actually not even close. First of all,
the guy who physically is closer to a Baker Mayfield
is Russell Wilson, because Baker Mayfield's a bigger guy. He's
he's a thicker guy. He did different things in college
than than Johnny Manziel did. And his accuracy, Sorry, Rex,
but this is accurate. His accuracy was off the chart.
(01:12:53):
He completed seventy percent of his balls, I think his
last two years. So that's that's crazy good and crazy talented.
And you know, whatever conference or whatever you think of
the Big twelve and all that. But like it's like
I was talking to so David Anderson is a friend
of mine. He comes on the show. He played in
the NFL for like seven years, and he was talking
about how he was a slot receiver and he was like, yeah,
(01:13:16):
you know, you know West Welker was a comparable and
and you know, this and that, and people were comparing me.
I'm like, hey, dude, why don't people just come out
and say, yeah, it's because you're white, like you know, well,
you know what, Dave, you know you probably never heard
from anybody. Hey, you remind me a lot of Eddie
Royal like that. Those comparisons never came up. But you
won't to know why because you're white. Like so much
(01:13:37):
of this stuff is, well, who's the comp for this guy? Okay, well,
Lamar Jackson war what number eight in college? All right,
Rex Grossman, I'm going with it. Why not? That's what
I'm doing from now on. From now on, I don't
I'm I'm going to go completely opposite of the race,
completely opposite. Well, this is and this is where I think, like,
it's it's so ridiculous, and you bring up wide receivers
(01:13:58):
and why I think it's it is ace based And
anybody who makes the argument that he should consider changing
positions is just a complete idiot and tool. If you
were really to change Lamar Jackson's position, have you watched
him run away from defenders? Wouldn't you want him, say,
in a backfield or some sort of hybrid role that
(01:14:18):
is becoming more and more I don't want to say
the norm in the National Football League, but at least
being used more once you put him in a backfield
to figure out a way where he would be able
to break away and put the ball in his hands
then and try to figure out a different way to
like It's it's absurd to me to think about that.
Braxton Miller at Ohio State made the transition just because
(01:14:39):
he wasn't gonna be able to throw in the National
Football League And it had nothing to do about his
with his skin color. And it wasn't that he's an
outside wide receiver flying past guys on the field. He's
a slot receiver with the Texans that hopefully he can
use his agility and get open. It's just the conversation,
as you said, you can you try to just put
these things in a box and try to make comparisons,
whether it be to Tim Tebow and are not comparable
(01:15:00):
at all. They're not comparable in certain situations. And you say,
just comparing guys based on their skin color and their number.
Also another ridiculous notion of the NFL. Combos are a
perfect example justin Blackman, remember him at Oklahoma State. You
know what his comp is, Gary Busey. Oh it's I said,
all right, Dan Buyer. Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb
(01:15:22):
here Fox Sports Radio. Um, do you want to tell
you again, Dan, I'm serious about this, Okay, I gotta
tell you about Hooters. All right. You've got to get
to Hooters and try the new smoked wings. It's a
whole new way to crave wings. And with all the
taste and half the calories, you can eat twice as
many at Hooters. Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieber,
Fox Sports Radio. Get Dan on Twitter, at Dan Buyer
on Fox, and get me at the Jonas knocks up next, though,
(01:15:46):
could one of the great players of this era be
stepping away? Find out who we're talking about next on FSR,
do do Jerome's gonna inbound. He's got Hunter out their hall,
guy and Wilkins looking for somebody, anybody since it the Hunter.
Hunter catches fires from three for the winds hell, it's

(01:16:09):
prayer answered. Here in Louisville, Kentucky, it's a dog pile.
Oh my goodness, Virginia has just ripped the heart out
of the Louisville Cardinals. Virginia wins It sixties seven to
sixties six around the World, a thrilling finish last night
(01:16:33):
on the Virginia Sports Network. Thrilling Movie in Theaters Now.
Bruce Willis stars and Eli Ross reimagination of the original
action film Death Wish. After a devastating home invasion, a
family man morphs into a badass revenge machine when the
system fails him, so he decides to take matters into
his own hands to protect his family. The big question
(01:16:55):
is whether the audience views him as a hero or
villain based on half far he'll go to tech his family.
Bruce Willis becomes both a force to reckon with and
deeply human, full of swagger with a bit of that
classic Willis charm. Don't miss this action trailer, Death Wish
in theaters now and now. It is the Doug Gottlips
(01:17:16):
Show on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm Dan Buyer.
That is John Ramos. Earlier on The Herd on Fox
Sports Radio with Colin Cowherd. The topic of discussion was
Lebron James. Cavaliers lost last night to the Philadelphia seventy sixers,
Colin giving his advice, advice that is about Lebron in
(01:17:37):
his future, and want to throw this out there. This
will sound crazy, but I want you to just think
about it for a second because it's happened before and
it almost always works out. The advantage to be in
a really, really, really rich person is time and options.
Lebron James trading deadline. They built him a new team.
(01:18:00):
It's basically c plus players Lebron James and an injured
Kevin Love that should come back in a month. He
knows he has no chance to win a championship, and
he's on the back nine of his career. And Lebron
sitting around and looking and he's the best basketball player
in the world. Regardless of who wins M v P.
He's the best basketball player in the world. And Philadelphia
(01:18:22):
and the Lakers are still too young. And I'm sitting
here thinking this will sound crazy, but it's really not.
Michael Jordan did it, Phil Jackson did it. Chip Kelly
did it. Why doesn't Lebron James retire until next year's
trading deadline? I quit? Yeah, that'll that'll do it. That'll
that will be the answer, let's just let's quit and
(01:18:45):
then come back when no team has any salary that
would be able to pay you the amount that you
would feel you would deserve to be paid. That makes
total sense. Here's where I would be willing to entertain
the idea because Lebron James is an attention hog. He
(01:19:07):
wants attention. It's why he does his social media posts,
like if you announce on social media that you're stepping
away from social media right then and there. Every time
he does zero dark twenty three or whatever that dumb
hashtag is he does before the playoffs right then and there,
that ought to tell you get over yourself. But if
he did that and just walked away from the game,
(01:19:30):
he's doing two three two things. One he's trying to see.
It's it's like getting the It's like faking your own
death so you can go to your funeral and see
who actually showed up on what they said because you're
so self absorbed. But then it also you then become
the hottest topic in the n b A throughout the
entire year, even when you're not even there. So if
(01:19:50):
he wants his you know what's washed, and he wants
him washed constantly by NBA fanboys like he already gets
that's the movie he would make. Will it happen? Dan shot, Yeah,
there's absolutely no way. And and to the feed the
ego aspect, I can understand what you're saying, but I
also think if you're talking about ego that Lebron James realizes,
(01:20:14):
what do we see Lebron James and this uber commercial
with Kevin Durant and courage maybe and driving him around
talking about Lebron James knows what happened when Kevin Durant
went and took the easy way out of a championship.
We are already having the argument of Lebron being the
greatest ever when he doesn't even match the number of
finals the the NBA Championships that Jordan's He's got three. Okay,
(01:20:36):
we're still putting him in the conversation of a guy
who went six and oh so for Lebron to sit
back and wait and see his options and then try
to gravy train. You mentioned the barnacle of Damon Jones
and Jowan Howard. It would be the same thing with Lebron,
let alone. Taking out the equation of his ego getting
in the way because no one would have thirty million
dollars to pay him or whatever they would need to
(01:20:57):
do under the salary cap. By the way, if I
if my Hooper driver drove as slow as carry champion
doesn't know, I don't care, get some chains on the car,
on the wheels. Come on, man, I'm paying good money
for this. Get me to where I need to go
before last call? Are we on? By the way, the
only thing colder than winner is the thought of being
(01:21:18):
stranded in it. That's why Auto Zone offers free battery
testing in a wide selection of proven tough deer Last
batteries so you can start your car with confidence. Get
in the zone, Auto Zone. More hoops talk coming up next,
and why not dive into more NFL combine. Yeah, my
forty speed was and John Ramos say, as well as
(01:21:40):
we roll on on this Friday, I'm just coming to
realize that I just maybe can't stand on when people
don't have the same opinion as me. Maybe maybe that's
the fact of the matter, Jonas, when it comes to
Lamar Jackson, or it comes to Sean Miller and the
n C double A. Maybe that's just the reason. I
don't know, Just you know, somebody on Twitter. No, No,
not at all. I just I don't understand how people
can flip flop on and one day feel that Arizona
(01:22:02):
is just in complete hot water in the programs over
with then here Sean Miller for four minutes. I don't
understand why people want to take Lamar Jackson and make
him be a wide receiver or put him in a
wide receiver category when now we're hearing the NFL coaches
aren't even bothering asking him the question because it's not
on their radar. Just I don't know, just get you know,
gets under my skin. Listen, Lamar Jackson is a quarterback
(01:22:24):
at the NFL level. Okay, he is a quarterback at
the NFL level. Dan, I draft him as a receiver,
though it would be that would be so so on
the fence. Let's check in with the NFL Combine. He's
a former NFL scout, now host of the new podcast
Three and Out with John Middlecoff that you can find
on the HERD podcast Network on my Heart Radio. John
(01:22:46):
Middlecoff joins us here on the Doug gott Leap Show.
Hey John, thanks so much for taking the time today.
What's going on, fellas let's let's start with Lamar Jackson. Okay,
because we now hear that he isn't even being asked
by NFL personnel about being a wide receiver, that it
seems that he is locked in as a quarterback. So John,
then tell me how the heck does this conversation even
(01:23:08):
come about about Lamar Jackson maybe needing to play wide
receiver at the next level. Well, I do think that
there's a possibility. I just got out of the shower
and saw that before you guys called, so I was.
I haven't text anyone in the league yet. I think
you have to ask, like there was reports this morning
the combine, you don't necessarily ask the player, and then
(01:23:29):
the combine is kind of the intermediary that would ask him.
So to me, it's is possible that they asked him
to also work out at wide receiver. You just don't
have to ask him personally. Obviously, it sounded like just
hearing him talk that he was gonna turn it down.
I just think the teams don't think he's very accurate,
and obviously neither is Josh Allen, but he is just
(01:23:50):
he is an elite athlete, you know, So, uh, this
all kind of got started when and I know social
media went into a tizzy about it, but the guy
that eginally said it is in the Hall of Fame
for picking football players. So and I think it gets
dismissed really quickly. And I'm writing something for the Athletic tomorrow.
(01:24:11):
And one thing I heard and listen right or wrong
in the combine, it's a short sample size for a
guy to meet with. Teams usually only get fifteen minutes
on those interviews, and a guy like Lamar Jackson, every
team that's interested is going to bring him in for
a personal visit, which is you know, twenty four plus hours,
you go to dinner when when I worked in the league.
(01:24:31):
You know, it's just it's very extensive. You get to
do a lot of different things. So this is not
the end all be all, but part of being a quarterback,
right is in that little fifteen minute meeting they'll show
place and then they'll like take the play down and
ask him to describe the play and then like redraw
the play. I mean, like cognitive stuff for quarterbacks, uh,
and the memory it's just difficult. I mean it would
(01:24:53):
be difficult for anyone, but the standard for quarterbacks really high.
And I've heard last night teams that had him in
struggled with that. Now again, this this was something that
was building though before the combine, not necessarily teams that
I think he's a wide receiver, but like Terrell Pryor
several years back, now Lamar Jackson was a better UH
(01:25:13):
college player, but thought he has trade that could become
a really good wide receiver too. And you know he's
got to get the chance to play quarterback. I I
really don't think it's that big a deal, to be
honest with you. John Middlecoff, former NFL Scott also part
of the Herd podcast network with us here on Fox
Sports Radio. UM, I want to ask you about Baker Mayfield.
(01:25:35):
So you talked about these visits that teams are going
to have with these players, and and how long are
the visits You were saying about fifteen minutes for each
player fi minutes, they blow the horn and then you're
in and out from using your experience, You've been doing
this a long time, you were a scout in the league.
What kind of non football questions is Baker Mayfield going
(01:25:56):
to be asked during those fifteen minutes, like to me
with him and probably be specific stuff. It would be
the incident that he had with the cop in in
Arkansas or the cops, you know, when he got tackled.
It would probably be I mean technically non football stuff,
something like you know, when he grabbed himself, Just stuff
like that. I mean, I think you would be specific
(01:26:17):
what happened, why it happened, didn't think he was right
or wrong, or you know, just to get his take
on everything. I think when there are specific incidents, you know,
with individual players, you spent sometimes less like Lamar Jackson.
Part of this is because you're not talking. He has
no questions off the field, like he's a high character guy.
(01:26:37):
Everyone likes him. It's just football. With some of these
other guys, it's can be football and off the field,
like with Baker, there are some questions on his football ability,
mainly it's height, but off the field, like one thing
I heard the last couple of days was don't take
this the wrong way. I mean, and some people did
and some people don't. Did he rubbed people the long
(01:27:00):
way in in uh at the Senior Bowl. And just
because it's not like he's just going up to most
of us if we were in a job interview setting,
which that's what the Senior Bowl is, and that's what
this is. You're just kind of on your best behavior.
You know, you're extra kind, extra nice to everyone. I
just think that he was pretty locked in. I've heard
(01:27:20):
the word arrogant, think hocky, Like he didn't act like
he had to prove anything to anyone. Like he acts
like he was already an established guy, not necessarily on
a job interview like most of these college prospects too.
So I think he's turned some people off. Now. On
the flip side, some people are gonna like that. So
if they asked him about the confidenceident and he kind
of shrugged it off, you know, who's to say that
John Elway doesn't go that's my type guy, you know,
(01:27:43):
or that or the New York Jets or the Arizona Cardinals.
So just not every you know, not every player, the
way they carry themselves. It's for everyone, and it's for
every organization. Like I've been told that the Giants, and
I mean this is kind of out there now. I
mean part of the reason they are. First off, they
still think Eli is good, which is kind of crazy,
(01:28:05):
but it's open minded enough to pass on. Like I
don't think they're gonna take a quarterback. Uh. And part
of it is if Darnald goes one, they're not that
big on Josh Rosen and they're not sure if Josh Rosen,
you know with in New York. Uh, just his personality.
And again they might be wrong. You know, it's not
necessarily they're right, But that's part of picking players. You
(01:28:27):
just kind of have to take a stance, especially when
you're hiring the draft. That's why I was almost thinking
you could make an argument if if you've already if
the tape, like the game tape is already out there
on Baker Mayfield, you can watch him work out and
throw from the stands. If I only got fifteen minutes
with him, and this guy has a history of losing
his cool and maybe acting out when things don't go
his way, I mean, call me crazy, but if I
(01:28:49):
had fifteen minutes with this guy, I would try and
test him a little bit, see if you could frustrate
I would I would imagine a lot of teams, did
you know you kind of call him out on some
different stuff, because I mean, the NFL is like a
high school. Rumors just go around so fast, and once
you do it to one team. Every team knows you know,
the way you acted or carry yourself. So I've been
(01:29:09):
a lot of the teams, uh, the ones that and
it's not just the ones that are specifically thinking about
drafting him. Part of the reason you bring in every
player during the draft because what if Baker is you know,
not a quote unquote bust and so in like four years,
well he's available, Well, then Team X might be bringing
him into the backup and they may have bite him
in this process, you know, So you evaluate every player
(01:29:32):
as if maybe you won't get him in the draft,
but at one point in time they might become available.
And would you feel comfortable bringing him in if if
you were an NFL team and did not bring him
into your room in these fifteen minutes, even if you
have no shot of drafting, And I think you're doing
a disservice because as we've seen with Case Keenum, who
I might come for Baker Baker Mayfield is the two
(01:29:53):
thousand seventeen Case Keenum who was who was a really
good player, you know, a guy that the team is good,
you can win a lot of games with and had
a lot of really good moments. Now is he a
little flawed physically, yes, and but I mean he led
a team, led a team might be strong. Was the
starting quarterback for a team that was in the NFC Championship,
and I think Baker could become that, probably a lot quicker.
(01:30:16):
But the personality stuff, you guys know, I mean, when
you're a quarterback in the NFL, it's the fire is
always on you. In America, in the media, with the fans.
I mean, it's just it's just a hard job to have.
So you better you better know. And I know Oklahoma
is a big time program, but it's a little insulated
(01:30:37):
relative to a lot of these NFL franchises. John Middlecoff
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, former NFL scouting
host of three and out on the Herd podcast network.
You can find him on Twitter at John Middlecoff. Let's
wrap up with this. Sae Kwon Barkley's numbers today at
the combine have been had people drooling. Is this is
this enough to put him, say a top draft boards
(01:30:58):
all across the NFL and maybe being talk to be
the first overall pick. Yeah, I don't see why. If
you're Cleveland, you know, and let's say you like Baker Mayfield,
let's say his personality, and he just you're like, that's
my guy. Why couldn't you take Sa Kwan at one
and take him at four? You know, because if Sa
Kwon is your number one player, or if you have
(01:31:19):
you know, you like Rosen and Baker the same, well,
you know you're gonna get one of the two of
them at four. Takes Sa Kwan at one. I think
Sa Kwan threw his hat. Now. The one thing is
most NFL scouts he ran at Penn State like a
verified time of four three nine. So the whole entire
scouting community and obviously his tape speaks for himself, knew
(01:31:40):
he was a freak and those lifting videos that have
been coming out on Twitter forever. I really don't think
it was a shock. I mean, it's kind of it's
kind of shocking for us, you know, because I you know,
we don't look at numbers every day, like the scouts knew.
But I think the scouts knew this and then it
was just validated. So I think there might be a
chance who might be already the top player are on
their board. I just think that I'm starting to see
(01:32:02):
a scenario. Maybe some buzz will come out when the
quarter after the quarterbacks throw and we find out how
the interviews went is why couldn't the Browns go one
one s Kwan Barkley and four you know one of
the one of the two l A guys or Baker
Mayfield at four, John Middle Kaffa thirty seconds or last
before I let you go. Biggest surprise of the combine
(01:32:24):
so far for you as what just talking to people,
how bad free agency is gonna be. The players are terrible.
It's a terrible it's a terrible class. And there is
a historic amount of money out there, kind of like
the NBA when they just didn't have any money and
these guys stopped getting paid. I think a lot of
NFL g ms, even though they have the money, are
(01:32:44):
going to give a lot of low ball offers because
there aren't many players that deserves that their play deserves
to be compensated in the nine, ten, eleven, twelve million
dollar range. I mean that there really are not. The
free agent class is atrocious. It might be better if
you're a team like the Niners. Just row your money over.
Make sure to check out his new podcast three and

Out on the Herd Podcast Network. Find him on Twitter
at John Middlkoff. John, thanks so much for the time
and enjoy the combine, have a great weekend. Thanks you too.
You know, solidifying what we talked about earlier there. I
I guarantee there are mock drafts that are gonna have
se Kwon Barkley at number one this week after what
he did at the Combine. And it's it's that instant
(01:33:26):
reaction that we have. I don't know in the end
if Cleveland will have enough guts to do it. I mean,
I think it's would be a bad move if they did.
But if they feel what John said they can do
is get the quarterback that they really like that they
think can drop the four. And again I think the
Giants are gonna take Quenton Nelson. I don't think that
there's the Hall of Fame talk of Dave Gentleman that
he said yesterday. I just I don't know we're gonna
(01:33:47):
see se Kwon Barkley a top mock draft this week.
By the way, Dan, now, before we get to break,

He covers the NBA for Yah Who's sports fund him
on Twitter at Chris Mannox. Yes he is Chris Mantos. Hey, Chris,
how are you doing today? I'm good, guys. How are
you doing? We are we are doing well. Um? Is
there anything to buy with the Cleveland Cavaliers right now?
After their eleven point loss last night to the Philadelphia
(01:35:32):
seventy is with guests soupgate um going on before that?
Is there anything to buy in with this Cavaliers team
with what we've seen in the last twenty four hours? Oh?
If there's one constant with Cleveland this entire season, it's
been bad defense. I mean they have been consistently one of,
if not at times the worst offensive team in the league.
(01:35:52):
And you know how big a factor that is really
depends on what you think of the contenders that are
around Cleveland. Do do you buy into Boston and what
they are right now? Do you think Toronto is for real?
The way the Raptors have played all season long? Is
there a fourth or fifth team Washington playing good basketball
right now? I don't know that that. You're you're likely
(01:36:13):
to change your opinion of Cleveland too much with you know,
around twenty games to go in the regular season. The
question is going to be do you think these defensive
flaws are enough for someone else in the Eastern competent
knocked them off? I mean, I love the deals they made,
and I think eventually they're going to become a plus
for them, But I don't know that any of these
deals make them a better defensive team. So, you know,
(01:36:36):
the opinion of the Cavaliers really is predicated on what
you think of their defense. We've seen two examples of
Lebron James getting to the finals where he's overwhelmingly the
guy and not much help around him, and that was
his first appearance in a sweep against the San Antonio Spurs,
and then last year when they were done in five
games and he was dominant the last couple of games
of that series. Does anything about this roster um outside
(01:37:00):
of Kevin Love coming back change your opinion about whether
or not they can compete for a title. No, I
don't think they can compete for a title. I think
you would take a massive, significant injury on the part
of one of the teams he's playing in the fun
It's just that there's a pretty considerable gap between the
elite and the Western Conference and everybody in the East. Now,
(01:37:21):
the Elite might just be two teams. Golden State and
Cleveland are Golden State and Houston, And I guess we'll
see what San Antonio looks like if and when Kawhi
Leonard comes back. But all you know, both those teams
and maybe all three of those teams, they're just better.
I mean I I said, I do like the deals
that the Calves made for Deadline. I think they got younger,
more athletic. I think they have guys that fit playing
(01:37:43):
alongside Lebron James better than the guys that they shipped out.
But you know, they're just not on on that level.
I mean, Lebron could play the best, sick, you know,
best four games of his career in the finals, and
this Calves team could still get beat in four games.
This is this is very much even with Kevin Love
of this is very much a two thousand seven type
(01:38:03):
of team where Lebron is gonna have to do a
lot to get this team just a finals. David Jones
was out of that team. Chris Mannox Journy's here on
Fox Sports Radio. Damon Jones was on the team as
a player. I didn't realize that he was a coach.
Is he just Lebron's buddy hanging around the calves or
and no, he's you know, one thing about Damon is
you know, you know, Damon is a bit of a
loud mouth, and I can see Damon being combative with
(01:38:24):
with with some players at times. But I'll give him
credit though he's earned his way up until the spot.
I mean, the guy started as an assistant coach with
I can't charge, so we didn't just show up, you know,
in Cleveland. As as Lebron's guy, I'm sure the relationship
has something to do with his his his ascensial within
the ranks. But he's very tight with Tyron Loeu And
as I said, he started off at extremely low level,
(01:38:46):
so you know he's not just a guy kind of
along for the ride with Lebron. Then how does it
end up that he gets soup thrown at him like that.
That's what I want to know. How does this j R.
Smith thing go along? And how does this reflect on
what's going on in Cleveland? As I said, he's a
bad guy, and you know, I've seen on in numerous occasion.
I Ca'm trying to even think of how many other
times I've seen it, but numerous occasions. Um, him during huddles,
(01:39:10):
you know, going at it with Lebron, going at it
with certain players. Um, he's not afraid to kind of
get in your face. And and that's that's one I
been one of his calling cards, both as a player,
uh and a head coach. And without direct knowledge of
of exactly what happened there, you've got a combative guy
in Damon Jones, a combative guy in j R. Smith.
I don't know how Soup got involved in all this
(01:39:31):
that that certainly needs to be explained, but I can
certainly see, you know, those two guys going at it.
But you know, reports of any reports of dysfunction in Cleveland,
I don't count that too much in in in the
the assessment of where this team is and what they
can be. They've been a team that's existed in a
perpetual state of dysfunction. For the last four years, there's
been combativeness between Lebron and Kevin Love and you know
(01:39:54):
Isaiah in the mix. They're just this has been more
dysfunction every day than than maybe a team the league
over the last four years, and they find their way
to fight through it. It's on the court there with
the bigger issues line. Where does where does Jr. Smith
throwing soup at an assistant coach rank in in one
of the all time locker room TIFFs or fights that
(01:40:15):
you've heard about I've I've heard stories about, and you
spend time around Boston about Region Rondo and Doc Rivers
and all that stuff. But where does this stack up
for you in most bizarre locker room incidents. I mean
it's it's the soup being involved puts it, you know
in the mix, I guess. I mean, I've heard of
guys throwing shoes at each other. Um, you know there's been,
(01:40:35):
you know, certainly, you know, you know, things come to
blows more often than than the story gets told in
the NBA. So fights in the locker room and then
Gilbert Arenas, Gilbert Arenas pulling a gun I think would
probably be considering. Yeah, that that that rises it to
a level I think that nobody ever wants to go
to again. But you know, the disagreements, I mean when
it gets out, they only got out because the cabs
(01:40:55):
got to spending. But stuff like this not uncommon amongst
amongst NBA play as coaches. I mean, these these guys
all at healthy egos, both the coaches and the players,
and stuff like this. Honestly, it happens all the time.
Arenas maybe the cream of the crop, but this was
the cream of the mushroom. Come on, Yes, that's a
soup joke. Jonas, he's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer and
for Doug Gottlieber on Fox Sports Radios, Chris Mannox joins us.
(01:41:18):
I would love to ask a specific question about the
Western Conference, but I have no idea what's going on
between three and ten right now. Um let's I guess
focus on Portland's because they're surging. Are they a legit
top four team in the West, because the standings right
now say they're at that mark. Well, I think they're
in legit top four team, But I think there's a
pretty significant separation, you know, probably between two and everybody else,
(01:41:42):
you know, so so you have to start with that.
But this is what Portland does. I mean, go back
to the last few years. They get to the mid
season point, they're struggling, and it seems like every year
they finished strong. Every year they just wind up rattling
off you know, ten out of twelve and in eighteen
out of twenty or some so absurd number. Now, what
was the key or one of the keys here in
(01:42:03):
additionally the obvious, which is you know, the column and
Lillard tearing it up, but use off nurks, you know,
finding something of a rhythm. I mean, this is a
guy that did not play well for the first few
months of the season. The end of last year, he
was a big reason for their success. Remember the wins
of the playoffs with him injured. That was, you know,
one of the reasons I think they struggled. But they
well they think they struggled in the early part of
the playoffs. But him coming back and him getting into
(01:42:25):
a bit of a groove, I think is is huge
for the trail Plazer. So I think they're you know, uh,
the team in the eighth spot or even the ninth
spot could want the three seed before the end of
the season. Uh in uh in the Western Conference. But again,
it's hard to find a team that's gonna knock off
one and two when you get to the playoffs. Chris,
is Gorton Heyward coming back this season? I don't think so.
(01:42:46):
I mean, I saw the snippet from the Players Tribune,
but you know, I wrote something earlier in the week, um,
you know, kind of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. And
you know, one kind of anecdote I used was, you know,
when I was in Boston a couple of weeks ago,
right before the All Star break, I saw Gordon Heyward,
you know, instinctively looked down at that injured ankle and
he was walking fine on it, but the ankles still
(01:43:06):
look pretty swollen. It looked kind of purplish there, which is,
you know, of course, it's it's not abnormal. Nobody's saying
that that Heyward's had any setbacks, but the calendar right
now is working against him where we're into early March,
and you know, Brad Stevens said a couple of weeks
back that maybe Gordon would be traveling with the team
in early March. I have not heard any kind of
advancement on on that that kind of proclamation there, and
(01:43:29):
Stevens has been pretty consistent in saying, Heyward's not going
to come back. And most importantly, even if he's physically
ready to come back, the mental hurdle is huge. I mean,
he is going to have to really get used to jumping, landing,
doing all the things that made him an All Star player,
and that's going to take longer to get to than
the physical part of him getting back on the court.
Chris Mannock shooting us here on Fox Sports Radio. What
(01:43:52):
about the Spurs and you mentioned that, gosh there right
now in the five spot in the West, they could
drop down to eight or nine. We know about the
pop Lebron love fest. Is there any connection to that
or could this be tb beginning of an end with
the San Antonio Spurs. If Kawhi Leonard's future is in
is in question? What about San Antonio right now is
(01:44:13):
a five spot in the West? Well, I am, I am,
like everybody else, kind of fascinated with the Lebron Popovitch dynamic.
I mean Lebron has Lebron's often told people and and
had a comment. Maybe he's even said this publicly about
a sort of desire to to play for an elite
head coach. That's the one thing that's kind of been
missing in his career. And Erik Spoelster has become an
elite head coach, but he wasn't when Lebron got there
(01:44:35):
in ten. I think Lebron's always wanted to play for
one of those basketball luminaries. We know that Phil Jackson
is not gonna happen for all these reasons, but Gregg Popovitch,
you know, has always you know, had Lebron's respect and
and that's huge. So that that's a you know a
potential advantage for Lebron maybe signing with San Antonio after
this summer. Now as far as Kawai goes, I mean, look,
(01:44:57):
there's definitely a disconnector has been a disc connect between
Kauai and the Spurs over this injury. The Spurst clear
to medically weeks ago, and he just hasn't felt completely
comfortable and ready to come back. But now you hear
him telling teammates that he will be back. Uh. That
that I think has kind of thought the ice a
little bit. And you know, I've always said that, you know,
when you have a great player who has never expressed
(01:45:18):
any desire to do anything but win, and you have
an organization that, over the last two decades has been
the winningest organization and all the professional sports. That's not hyperbole.
The numbers backed that up. With san Antonio something has
always told me that they'd find a way to figure
it out before Kauai can become a free agent in ten.
So I don't know what he's gonna be when he
(01:45:39):
comes back this season. He's been out for all nine
games this year, but I'm banking on Kawhi Leonard and
the Spurs figuring out to make a way to make
that relationship, at the very least a long lasting one.
Find him on Twitter at Christi man x y s
as he covers the NBA for y'all who sports. Christian
mannis thanks so much of the time today. We got
a blast. Appreciate it anytime, guys, Dan Buyer, Jonas now Sifer,

just the next ten minutes. Find out why that is next.
But for all the latest from around the Road of sports,
Steve to seger I thought the only thing colder than

(01:46:46):
what there, Wow, we have a trade in the NFL
to report. Of course, none of this official to the
league here starts on the fourteenth, but the Dolphins will
acquire defensive end Robert Quinn from the Rams, for whom
he had eight and a half sacks this past year.
Ian Rappaport NFL Network says they'll swap late round picks
and the Rams will also get a mid rounder in

this deal. The forty Niners want a coin toss today,
they'll select ninth overall. In next month's NFL draft, the

(01:48:36):
threw it at you, Jonas, Steve di Seger did I've
got a little more talking? Oh you think getting rid
of Robert Quinn's gonna make his Super Bowl contender Rams?
I don't think so. Talking Hey j R. Smith, why
don't you pick on some soup your own size? All right? Talking? Hey,
(01:48:57):
Baker Mayfield, grab this talking, Hey, Justin Verlander. Don't like
being lied too. No one likes being lied too. There
was talking, Yeah, you got it here on the Dougo.
Steve's calling me out. Well, I think he did, didn't
he about the Carson Wentz take Wait that was you? No? No,
(01:49:20):
hold on, hold on, you mentioned it earlier in the show. No, No,
that's an unnamed person here in the building. Yes, and
I can't tell you who that was, Okay, I get
I thought like Jonas was like he was doing a
tongue in cheek to himself. I msread. No. I told
everybody Carson Wentz was gonna be an m v P
candidate by year two. And I told everybody who was
(01:49:43):
going to injure his knee against the Rams. Oh amazing. Hey,
I think Bradley has just taken a lead on Drake
in arch Madness in St. Louis and Drake stay three
quarters court shot off the rim. Damn it, Bradley advances
in St. Louis. That's one and a half. I think

farmers dot com. Are Farmers catching us up today on
what's happening the world of sports? Bringing us the press
is Steve to say the press. Hello, Steve Good afternoon
(01:58:11):
once again, gentlemen and c double. A football rules committee
today proposed altering the kickoff rules. What do you think
of this? Not yet approved, but they would allow the
receiving team to fair catch the kickoff inside and have
anything that's fair caught inside the result in a touch back.
In other words, for player safety, a kickoff would not
(01:58:34):
have to travel all the way to the end zone
for it to be a touch back. Why have them? Seriously, like,
why even have them if you're giving them the option
like they've completely First of all, they're taking away jobs
and I'm not even I'm not even joking, Like they're
taking away valuable jobs at the you know, Devin Hester's
(01:58:57):
Devin Hester wouldn't exist if he was born and ten
years later than he was. Like, he literally wouldn't exist
as we know it if he was born a decade later.
He was incredible at Miami. Yeah, but because college football
rule proposed. Yeah, but like they're completely eliminating the return game,
which is a huge part of football. Jonas, don't you
need that ninth offensive lineman on your I forgot about that.
(01:59:21):
All these recommendations still have to be approved with a
conference call with the oversight panel mid April. There are
a couple of proposals the n c A has to
try and keep the game moving. They actually reduced college
football game times by more than four minutes last year.
I believe it's now six hours and two instead of
six hours and six. I have an idea, how about this?
(01:59:42):
How about you, thanks Mike, how about you stop stopping
the clock after every first down? Knock it off? Like, look,
what is this like? Like? And they want to continue
collaborative instant replay, so it's not limited to just the
guy in the press box at the stadium that can
stop and be involved the decision making. They want to
continue that. But as far as proposals to keep the
(02:00:05):
game moving, they say, set the play clock at forty
seconds right after a touchdown, get the extra point going,
set the play clock at forty right after the kickoff,
play ends, restart play more quickly. Actually, they should just
get rid of a quarter. Make three in the third third.
We're tied. The numbers are in from the Friday combine results. Well,
(02:00:27):
let's start with the times. Of course. Running back sa
Kwon Barkley impressed in many categories today, running the forty
in four point four oh offensive tackle from Oklahoma. Orlando
Browns forty time five point eight five, five point eight five,
one of the slowest times of the last fifteen years.
(02:00:50):
The same guy Brown, who possible first rounder yesterday was
dead last in bench press reps among thirty six offensive lineman,
and his vertical was dead last today under twenty inches
high five eight five. Lieutenant Dan could run the Boston Marathon. Hey, hey, hey,
wasn't wasn't he in? That's a raven Brown. He may
(02:01:14):
need a job certainly show hey Otani was an Angels
camp again today, the signy from Japan was pitching and
again hit ninety seven miles per hour on the gun
in a B game against the Brewers. In fact, Otani
got twelve outs, eight by strikeout. Tim Tebow was the
d H for the Mets in a split squad game.
He's been batting about one fifty early in spring, but
(02:01:34):
went one for three today. Mets lost to one to
the Nationals. Backing out there and pressed, that was the
press if you guys knew this or not. But the
only thing colder than winners the thought of being stranded
in it. That's why auto Zone offers free battery testing
in a wide selection of proven, toughter last battery so
you can start your car with confidence. Getting his own
Auto Zone talking, Hey Otani, what is you doing it
(02:01:58):
on the regular season? Who cares about Cactus League? Talking? Hey,
Jeffrey Gorman, give me my damn moneyback, scam artist talking
a Milwaukee Brewers. What do you have an I'm gonna
be on your hat? Are you kidding me? Talking? Sorry? Cooper?
No one cares about Bradley and if they won their
(02:02:20):
tournament game or not. Talking Hey m C double A,
why don't you take your new kickoff rules and shove
them where the sun don't
