Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to sports and Johnny ron Ros he's not
a free agent locked up on a b KR edition.
Glad to have you with us, a day away from
the first round of the n c Double A Tournament,
but really focused on the free agent frenzy of the
National Football League and a big move today in the NFL.
(00:22):
But it has nothing to do with a signing. Instead,
it has to do with a I guess you could
say a resigning. As Joe Thomas has announced his retirement
as the left tackle from the Cleveland Browns, calling it
quits after an eleven year NFL career, my heart pumps
and and I get funny feeling. I get these like
(00:42):
these fields, Dan, these tingles for the NFL offseason. They
just continue to to rip into the heart of another
sports big week and just take all the headlines. I
love the The fact of the matter is is that
Joe Thomas's status is a big question with the Cleveland
Browns heading into the season, and was he going to play?
(01:03):
Was he not going to play? You've got two picks
in the top four of the NFL Draft. You have
already swung a deal to bring in a quarterback in
Tyrod Taylor. You swung another deal to have a wide
receiver Jarvis Landry, you have Damarus Randall likely playing second
safety for the Browns. All these pieces kind of coming
(01:23):
into place, and then you're like, hey, maybe the Browns
could be something in the Only question is is Joe
Thomas coming back as their left tackle now that we
know that he hasn't. There maybe a lot of large
questions that the Browns have to ask. But what a
unique career for one Joe Thomas. Yeah, it's a very
(01:44):
similar to say a Dick Butt Kiss or a gayl
Sayers who just were lost and that's really what their
teams did. They lost, but they were great, great, great players.
He's a Hall of Famer and a great player. But
he's had a tremendous career. I mean he's he's been
at the top of the of offensive of the offensive
tackle game for years and years and years and years.
(02:05):
He dealt with a lot of craft there in Cleveland.
They didn't they didn't surround him with enough talent. He
had opportunities to go somewhere else. The one thing I
I hope it doesn't happen is I hope people don't
look at Joe Thomas and feel sorry for him because
I think he's good man. I think he's good with
where he's at. It would be nice to win more.
But ultimately, he played at a high level doing something
(02:28):
he loved to do for a long long time. He
didn't have to move to any other organization. There were
opportunities to leave. He got to stay where he was at.
He didn't have to uproot his family and and go
someplace else. I think he had a fantastic career. I
don't feel bad for him. I think I think he's
got to be ecstatic at this point. Do you think
and I think that this is a factor that because
(02:49):
Joe Thomas never came close to winning a championship or
like being right on the doorstep, that he can make
this decision a lot easier, because I do think that
there are athletes who get close. They lose a couple
of Super Bowls. Maybe they get into the NFC Championship
game and don't get to go to that Super Bowl,
but they they get a little taste of it, maybe
(03:12):
maybe just once. Remember Tony Gonzalez had that whole time
if he never won a playoff game and then he
ended up winning a playoff game with the Falcons and
then they lose the next week in the NFC cay't
be a chip and then you know, geez, well, gosh,
maybe that's gonna keep you know, Tony Gonzalez around three
or four more years. Like the the Joe Thomas not
even having a taste of the playoffs. He may not
(03:33):
even know what he's missing, you know what I mean,
like like it it may actually in terms of because
the Browns at least, I know, like when you're on
in sixteen, you're only trending upwards, but they are at
least looking like they're maybe going in the right direction
with what they've done so far. And maybe Joe Thomas
just looks at it is he doesn't know the experience
(03:53):
of being close and so why not just call it
quits if you're not into it? And I think some
people just kind of operate in a in a different mindset.
When he got drafted, he was fishing. I mean, this
guy was a top five pick in the NFL draft,
where everybody's in the green room, everybody's waiting around for
their name to get called, and he was out on
a boat catching fish with his family. Like he just
did it's just he's he's always it seems to me
(04:14):
like he's always kind of done his own thing, and
maybe winning a Super Bowl to some people they look
at it and go, man, that's fulfillment. Maybe for him
it's not. And I think there's something to it to
where you know, his ignorance is bliss. He doesn't know
really what's there. He doesn't he doesn't know, as you
pointed out, what the what that feeling is like, So
maybe it doesn't bother him as much. Like I bowled
a two ninety one time true story. I hit at
(04:38):
eight and I picked up the spare and then bowled
eleven straight strikes to ninety. I was on the doorstep
of a perfect game in bowling, which is rarefied air Dan.
I've been trying for about twelve years. Okay, uh, I
can't come close to doing that again. Like I would
rather be have not not happened. I would rather just
bowled a one fifty and gotten hammered it. It tricked
(05:00):
me into thinking, oh, you're right there, You're you're so close,
you're right there. I have blown so much money trying
to chase that three D. I'm never gonna it's never
gonna happen. Yeah, And I think that he looks at
it like, well, all right, this is what it is.
This is as crazy as I mean, he seems as well,
this is a job. Maybe he's ready to go to
a new job. Eleven years in one spot, in a
(05:22):
spot where you can get beat up. Plus he's coming
off of a serious injury that ended his season. It
really is a an amazing career. When you look at
Joe Thomas's accolades, you can't go and go to Pro
Football Reference and look up his stats. Trust me, I tried,
and all they tell you so many fumble recoveries he
had because they're not like pancakes, you know, like there's
(05:43):
by the way they should pancakes should be in a
pH of the NFL. But if you could, you know,
figure out a way snaps the you know, sacks a
lot or however was but anyway, all you can find
for fumble recoveries. When you look at his Wikipedia page,
games played hundred and sixty seven games started seven Like
(06:04):
that Just that says it all, just in that in
that little bit of all right, started every single game
he played in the National Football League in his career
with the Cleveland Browns. That that is, and all of
that in a division against teams that had great defenses.
Think about all the Hall of Fame players he went
up against, whether it's Ray Lewis or Suggs or Troy
(06:27):
Paula Malo, James Harrison, all those great I mean, Cincinnati
had really good defenses and they still have a lot
of talent on defense. He went up against the best,
and he was always undermanned. He was always the best
player on the Cleveland Browns. There were never any off
field issues. He never bitched and moan and called out
the organization. Wasn't there an opportunity a couple of years
(06:50):
ago for him to go to Denver? Like there was
an opportunity for like Denver wanted to try and trade him.
And that's why I say, like you can't feel you
can feel bad for him and say, well know, he
never got to win, and here Cleveland is making all
these moves and he's not going to be here to
see it. I think he's good with where his career
is at. I think he's totally okay with it. I
think when you look at it as well, Jonas, if
(07:11):
he's good with it, maybe fans should be good with it.
But I think fans will sit there and say, what
a waste. And it's not a waste on anything that
Joe Thomas has done, but it is a waste on
what the Cleveland Browns have done and that organization. And
it's it's not Jonas, it's not even just building a
winner around what Joe Thomas has done, but just of
(07:37):
I mean, when you look at the left tackles that
we've gotten the National Football League and where he was taken,
it was from day one that he was a star.
And there there are only a few left tackles in
the NFL that can get to the Joe Thomas level.
They never had a running game behind him, they never
had a passing game behind him. They like there was
no just it's it's like waste on the Cleveland Browns
(07:59):
to be given that golden ticket. It's like winning a
scratcher of a thousand dollars and then just waiting the
hundred and eighty days and not cashing it in. Like,
look up, I won when I never cashed in and
was able to wait the rewards hold on a second,
those expire after days. I don't know the days is
the official expiration. But there is an expiration date on
(08:21):
scratch offs and when you have to turn them in.
I do know that I got I got scratchers for Christmas,
Like not this past Christmas, the year before that. I
haven't scratched off yet. I just haven't had times like
I'll do it all in one day and I'll take
them in there. Gotting What a waste of time, son
of damn it. The Yeah, there is a there is
a deadline to that, but that's how I look at it, Like, yeah,
(08:42):
we won, we want a thousand dollars, Well, we get
to go on the TV show. Look, we got three
TVs on our lottery ticket. You want to cash it
in later on? We missed the deadline. Do you want
to hear from Joe Thomas himself? He went to a Twitter.
Of course, back in the old days they used to
do emotional press conferences. He decided to go to social media.
Here was Joe Thomas announcing his retirement. I just want
(09:03):
to say thank you to all the Browns fans out there.
It's been an amazing ride for the last eleven years.
From the moment I was drafted. You guys had my back.
You guys showed me what it was like to be
a Clevelander. You guys showed me what it means to
be a Cleveland brown and for that, I'm forever grateful.
Jimmy and d thank you so much for everything that
you've done for me and my family. I can't thank
you guys enough. My teammates, my coaches, you guys helped
(09:28):
me become the player that I was able to be
for the last eleven years. And I'll be forever grateful.
One last thing, guys, go Browns. All right, He's out
of the Hall of Fame on that right then and there.
In fact, he should be suspended be for his his
what he decided to do there at the end, that
(09:48):
is embarrassing. I like how Russell Wilson came in at
the end, it was like, go Hawks. I had a
I had a buddy who is a die hard Browns
fan and he never has nothing to do with Cleveland.
The only reason he was a Browns fan is because
they were the worst team on Madden and that's the
team he decided to play with because he thought it
would be funny. He's he grew up in Southern California
(10:11):
group in Calabastas, No no affiliation, what's over to the
Browns to this day, diehard Browns fan. He said to me,
he's like, hey, I'm thinking about getting new jersey. First
jersey got was Josh Cribs. Oops. He's like, well, what's
what's another jersey I should get. I'm like, you know,
it's not the most aesthetically pleasing jersey you should get,
but probably Joe Thomas because I don't think he's gonna
go anywhere man. And he's like, uh, And so he
(10:33):
walked around in this dumb seventy three jersey for years
and as it turns out, damn he got his money
for him. I think I've told you this story about
what I went to a bronze game with my cousin
in two thousand and eight, same exact conversation, what jersey
should I get? It's really and so we're like, well,
(10:54):
let's get one. Let's gonna stick around for a while.
Your boy Brady Quinn number ten locked up from cousins,
there is there is also I recommended a Bernie Kozar
flask that time, but I don't know if they still
make those. Oh that's that's that's a little rough. Okay, sorry,
I thought the micros off all right, Dan Buyer, Jonas

Brown's Left Tackle, retiring after eleven seasons in the NFL,
(12:23):
and Jonas, a good friend of yours and a good
friend of ours and a good friend of Joe Thomas's,
felt the need to join us. Well, yeah, actually reached
out to him and today can you come on? Ye
trust me he would he wouldn't reach out to us far.
Jonas is tag team partner on the weekends here on
Fox Sports Radio. Former Notre Dame in Cleveland Brown's quarterback
(12:44):
Bratty Quinn joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey Brady,
what's up? Not much, guys, just got doing four hours
of radio. Jonas always tries to bother me throughout the
course of the week, but he forgets I've got other
jobs and obligations as well. Yeah, by the way, arts
on way out was someone who slept with Joe Thomas
joins you next. You were his roommate when you were
(13:05):
you guys were rookies. You were in the same draft
class together. The first time you met Joe Thomas, what
did you think? Well, the first time I actually met
Joe Thomas was back in high school. So he was
actually my left tackle back when we played in the
us RV All American Games. So I met him back
down San Antonio, Texas, and I remember thinking like he
(13:27):
reminded me of Paul Buddyen, you know, this big burley
guy from Wisconsin who was really stout and didn't really
have to worry about anything when we played in that
All Star Game against a bunch of the best high
school players from the west part of the country. So
he was a heck of a player. Back then, you
kind of got the sense that that that was the
trajectory he was gonna be on. And then when I
(13:48):
got the chance to, you know, leave New York, the
owner at the time, Randy Lerner, flew out in his
private jet, picked my family and I up. We flew
to with Scotts and we picked up Joe, met him
and his family, and uh then flew to Cleveland together
and and that was basically how the next three years
of my career would be. Joe and I roomed together,
I want to say really for the first uh two
(14:09):
years they would put rookies together, and then in the
end of the second year, they would room together nights
before games and we would kind of sit there and
just kind of talk, share different stories from college, share
different stories about what was going on in our lives
because you know, kind of both going through like a
life changing event not only for you but for your family.
And there's a lot else that comes along with that.
So he's been a good friend and he was, you know,
(14:31):
as I tell people, he's the best player I ever
played against and with, and that you know includes a
lot of other Hall of Famers, guys like against playing
against Ray Lewis and read people like that. But at
the end of the day, Joe Thomas was the best
player I've ever played with. Brandy Quinn joining us here
on Fox Sports already on the Doug Gottlieb Show, he's
Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer in for Doug today. We
(14:53):
joked about it earlier that there's no way to go
for the Browns but up. But why would Joe Thomas
want a step as now when maybe it seems like
things are getting traction in Cleveland to turn things around physically,
it's taken his toll on him. I mean, look that
the triest injuries one thing that's obviously that prevented him
from finishing the last when nine games the season last year.
(15:15):
But he's dealous of back injuries and me and all
sorts of other things. With the shoulders. I mean it's
I think people don't realize just because he played ten
thousand and three three I think of the exact number
consecutive staff People act like he wasn't playing hurt and
there's a lot of things he was fighting through, um
and and so he's a tough guy. And I think
(15:35):
at the end of the day, when you are as
good as he is, and you play at a certain
level and all of a sudden, you realize your body
is just not responding the way you wanted to. Now
he's thirty three years old. UM, I'm sure at some
point in the back of his mind he said, you know,
if I can't play up to the level of my expectations,
then I don't want to do it anymore. And if
it's gonna potentially put push into my happiness later on
(15:58):
in life at risk be as I can't play with
my kids and I can't do the things that I'd
like to be able to do, then it's not worth it.
And I think in the end, for him, you know,
turning down, I think he was over like thirteen million
this year, and really the chance just to not to
end the way it did being on that o and
sixteen season. I think just for him, it was a
personal decision. I think his body just you know, couldn't
(16:20):
take it anymore. What's a Joe Thomas story that you
can share? Keep it clean, your favorite Joe Thomas story
from the time in Cleveland when you guys were teammates.
This is probably more I have to do with me
than him. So, um, I was, you know, I really
hadn't had a roommate since my freshman year of I's
(16:41):
not sure my senior of college had a roommate, but
I grew up with him. I knew him for a
long time, and we are schedule was so different. I
didn't really see him that much besides practice and football stuff. Um,
So you know, my first concern was like, man, I
gotta I gotta sleep, and I would tell him night
before the game, or you want to have that good
rest with another guy, like I hope he doesn't snore.
(17:03):
So I had made like a big deal about it.
I was like, Joe, you don't snore, do you. I
was like, you know, because you're like a big lineman.
Typically guys who are like bigger than it's supposed to
be snoring out of sort of issue. Your teammate. Well done, man,
that wasn't that. But it's like, I don't I don't
know that any human things you supposed to be as
as big as some of these offensive littleman are. I mean,
(17:23):
come on, man. So anyway, I kind of say that
to him, and I kind of make a big deal
about it. And so we wake up the next day
and he's just kind of shaking his head and keeps
kind of looking at me as we're packing up, and
he's like, you were about be storing. He's like, you're
the worst snore I've ever been around. He was I
(17:45):
rate with me and the fact that we had to
spend the next the rest of the season rooming together
at home and even on the road, and all that
he had to deal with, apparently my snoring, which you know,
I don't really had a roommate, so I I didn't
know if I snore that bad or anything. So anyway,
that's kind of one. Um. I guess we'll call it
PG story about Joe and I are our first time
(18:06):
actually having to, you know, share the same room before
a first game of that season. Brandy Quinn joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio. He teams up with Jonas
on Sundays here on FSR. What's eight o'clock Eastern time,
five Pacific? Correct at eight to eleven Eastern time, two
to five in Hawaiian. Alright, perfect, perfect Jonas. I'm Dan Buyer.
John Ramos here as well in for Doug on The
(18:27):
Doug Gottlieb Show. Did the Brown's waste Jill Thomas? No,
come on, I mean, at the end of the day,
you know, everything has always made about the quarterback position, right, Um,
you know, because there's no one's worked out, No one's
been the franchise guy besides Joe Thomas, who's been a
franchise guy in Cleveland? Like what coach has been the
saving grace there? Where anything has been the saving grace there? Like, that's,
(18:51):
to me is the most assinine argument. And you know,
it's fun to talk about everyone always throws out the
jersey with all the different names, but you can do
that for basically any stition beside left tackle. Um, so
it wasn't a waste. It's just the fact that, you know,
I think most players need a fair amount of development
when they get to the NFL. Most players aren't ready
(19:12):
physically and mentally and aren't good enough to be able to, um,
go into a situation that's a bad situation and be
able to survive it. Joe Thomas was just that great.
He could survive through all the different regimes, all the
different schemes, all the different you know things that he
was given to try to execute. He was good enough.
He was good enough right away. He was good enough physically,
(19:32):
mentally and everything technically. Um and and that's something that
I think it's hard to do in the NFL. And
that's so I wouldn't call that a waste at all.
I think you know, Phil Savage was our general manager,
got already took him number three overall, um and, and
he told me that day, he said, look, he goes.
I felt it was most important to if we're gonna
take a quarterback, to get someone who I think was
(19:53):
gonna be able to protect your blind side. And and
I know this the three years that I played there,
I never had to worry about anyone coming up blind thought.
Joe Thomas had my bag, um And you know I
could I could say that to this day. Brady Quinn
with us here on Fox Sports Trade all right, as
a fellow quarterback, what do you make of how Kirk
Cousins has handled his career um just the contracts, the
(20:15):
length of this new contract. It's a three year deal,
which means he's going to be a free agent again
in just a couple of years. It seems like there's
a lot of like you're hearing a lot of back
bad talk about Kirk Cousins in Washington, But from a
business standpoint, has he just has he outsmart at everybody
in this whole thing. I don't know that he's out
smarter than everyone. I think the best way to put
it is this, he's dissected what the franchise tag is
(20:39):
and I understood leverage and understood how to kind of
play his cards, right. I mean, the guy was going
to be a doctor if he wasn't gonna play football
in the NFL. And I think he's demonstrated the ability
of how to dissect, you know, some of these organizations,
in particular Washington, to be able to capitalize and make
the most of his opportunity. And I think when it's
all said and done, he's been to play it. Paid
up at this point forty four million guaranteed he's gonna
(21:01):
get another what eighty four million, So if you're looking
at the you know, the first let's say, the last
five years, you know, last two years, the next three
years of his deal. I mean, the guy's making almost
a hundred and thirty million guaranteed if you look. He's
one in the business of football. I know that much.
I mean, and he's played pretty darnwell too. Um So,
I don't want to necessarily get away from that portion
(21:22):
of it, but I just think he's he's kind of
had a plan of what he wanted to do, and
he's been able to capitalize off that with his execution
on the field and been able to then kind of
take advantage of unannept organization that is the Washington Redskins.
Why do you think he's not liked by some people?
I don't know, honestly know anyone who doesn't like him
personally as far as players and all that, I really
(21:43):
don't like. I'm not sure if there's media people who
he's been distant with or more you know, kind of
you know, tight lits with certain things about I'm not
sure what it is. I mean, as far as you
know where that rumor comes from, I think it's something
that's sensationalized that you know, media outlet. Some people need
stuff to talk about, and then then they have to
talk about, you know, him saying you like that and
(22:04):
all that kind of stuff. I mean, look, he's a
guy who I think is going to be beloved by
all the people in Minnesota. Who are you know about
here to make them they're starting quarterback and they're gonna
be excited about it. I guarantee, you know, if there's
gonna have a bad word to say about him, any
player I've played with excuse any player that's played with
him that I've talked to, has never had a bad
word to say about him. Jonas was alluding to John
(22:26):
Ramos are Technical pretty doesn't like him at all. I
don't know, you know, you know what the thing is,
people people don't like the fact that he's making so
much money because they're jealous. I mean, that's ultimately what
it comes down to. You know, anyone who complains about
how much a football player makes or how much Kirk
Cousins is making, all that, to me, it's just kind
of dumb. It's like, Okay, do you not understand economics,
(22:48):
Like this is the value of a franchise quarterback. There's
a thing called scarcity, like some like There's were willing
to pay Sam Bradford or a one year deal fifteen
million guaranteed. The guy's got a chronic the issue, but
they look, they needed a quarterback. They needed a guy
who's demonstrated at some point in his career the ability
to play at a high level. And you know, Sam
Bradford has done that at points in time in his career,
(23:11):
and so Arizona Silence had that deal. Like people who
are upset about that probably don't get it. You know
that they probably make the same recurring mistakes that keep
them from being more successful in other portions of their life.
And a series don't actually think it was maybe just
the Redskins were the only ones who just didn't like
her cousins. Well, I mean that Bruce Allen that could
I think it was, honestly, you know what it was.
(23:31):
I think it comes down to Dan Snyder and Bruce
Allen and them just not like it was. He wasn't Bruce,
He wasn't Dan Snyder's pick. That was r G three
and r G three didn't work out. So I think
Dan Snyder probably had a hard time admitting that. You know, look,
Kirk Cousins was the right guy all along, and you
just didn't want to have to pay him, and Bruce
Allen to some degree to may may have felt that way,
(23:51):
or maybe the negotiations got so contentious that you know,
at some point there was there's no there's nothing that
you could do to wreck if by the situation, just
because of how things were handled. And Bruce Allen's got
a big ego and I'm sure Kirk Cousins kind of
wore that chip on his shoulder and there was probably
nothing that you could do to really keep him in.
It could have been the corpse. Like talking with Bruce
(24:12):
Allen as well. I mean, that's awesome. We've got to
point that out. The Redskins too, are the only team
that hates their quarterback or that hated their quarterback. Like
everybody's willing to overpay and love their guy and try
to I mean, like you know, stand in the batter's
box for their quarterback and they're like, you know, I
don't know, our guys just kind of there. It's just
that's why I don't think it's gonna happen often, because
(24:33):
I just don't think other teams the league are going
to dislike their quarterback as much as the Washington Redskins
for some reason did well. The best part was Dangelo
Hall coming out and saying like he didn't feel like
he was like fully committed last year and all this stuff,
and I was like, it sounds like he's starting from
the team perspective, which one I believe is a free agent.
So it's like, if you feel that way, man, why
(24:53):
don't you go play for the league minimum for the
Washington Redskin to do them a good deal. On top
of that, Oh, oh, you mean the quarterback didn't want
to fully commit to a team that wasn't willing to
commit to him. Shocking to hear that that's the case.
But but I didn't see that at all on his play.
If you thinking about it, the guys talking for over
four thousand yards in the last three years or whatever
it's been. I mean, he's played at a high level.
He's a franchise quarterback, and I think he gives the
(25:15):
Vikings a great chance of being able to go to
the Super Bowl this year. Well, you can hear them
with Jonas Knox eight o'clock Eastern times Sundays here on
Fox Sports Radio. He's pretty Quinn, former notre name in
the NFL quarterback. Thanks pretty appreciate it. Thanks guys, thanks
for it to be on a date with him during
(25:36):
the week. It is, uh, yeah, I feel like I
don't feel a little dirty. Sounds like I need a shower.
I don't. I don't know if that was appropriate. I
was about to give his Twitter handle up, but I
didn't want to mess it up because I didn't have
it in front of me at third underscore goal. Yes, yes,
he and he loves getting tweets. He's a big fan
of that, all right, Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for
Doug Gottlie Pierre Fox Sports Radio. I do want to
tell you about Farmers as conditions on the field change,
(25:58):
so can your insurance. He needs talk with the Armors
agent today so you can assess whether your policy is
game ready. Find an agent at Farmers dot com. AMers
up next. It is something that has never been done
on sports radio. We hope, all right, find out what
we're talking about next year on Fox Sports Radio. But
for all the latest from around the world of sports,
(26:18):
It's deb Carson, Hey Jonas. The NFL's new league year
gets underway. Top of the Hour, four pm Easter, and
one guy who won't be playing at next year Brown's
tackle in future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas. He announced
his retirement from the NFL. Ten time pro bowler played
his entire eleven year NFL career with Cleveland and had
the active consecutive snap streak until he was injured back
(26:40):
in October heard his left arm in all. Former Eagles
cornerback Patrick Robinson will return to the Saints on a
four year, twenty million dollar deal. Giants have agreed to
a four year, sixty two million dollar do with former
Patriots left tackle Nate Soldier, and the Arizona Cardinals release
safety Tehron Matthew after he declined to restructure his contract
and take a pay cut. Teddy bridge Water will reportedly
(27:01):
sign a one year deal with the New York Jets.
Titans signed former Patriots running back Dean Lewis to a
four year, twenty three million dollar contract. A couple of
notes from the NBA. The Warriors will be without Clay
Thompson for the next two weeks due to an injured
right thumb. Steph Curry will also miss at least another
week because of an ankle injury. And I know bracketology
is in full effect. Of course, the first four of
(27:21):
the n C Double A Tournament continues tonight in Dayton
six for Eastern Tip for Texas Southern facing North Carolina
Central for the right to face West Region top seed Xavier,
and following that, Syracuse and Arizona State duke it out
for the Midwest Region eleven seed, and the winner will
advance to face six seed TCU. Thank you very much, Deb.
I'm glad, she said bracketology, because we've got a little
(27:43):
serving coming up in just a little bit. But I
want to let you know that today's Doug got Leap
Show is brought to you by True Car. Online car
shopping can't be confusing, not anymore. With True Price of
truecr now you can on the exact price you'll pay
for your next car. So as a True Car to
enjoy a more confident car buying experience, I'm dan buyer.
That's shown us knocks. John Ramos is here as well
as word for Doug on a b k R edition
of The Doug Gottlieb Show. It is bracket season, there
(28:06):
is no doubt about that. But it is also, as
Jonas pointed out, free agent frenzy season in the National
Football League, So why not guys combined the two. Let's
make way too early predictions on what the NFL playoffs
will look like after not even twenty four hours of
(28:31):
free agency. Where's Billy Packer? That's a good question. Oh man,
you're one of the few. You are one of the few.
Let's reveal the six teams that are making up the
n f C bracket, thanks in part to our friends
(28:54):
at True Car, who sponsored this bracket reveal. Are you
guys ready to find out the NFC playoff picture after
free agency? I'm ready? I'm ready? Johnny Ready? Sure? Ryan Music?
Are you ready? So ready? Dan? And Jonas deb Carson?
Are you ready? Who? All right? Let's reveal the team's
(29:19):
first a three seed in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles.
After a super Bowl winning Super Bowl fifty two, the
Eagles were still able to keep their momentum, but a
bit of a Super Bowl hangover allowed them to fall
to number three in the NFC playoff picture. In who
will the Eagles be facing in their wild card game
(29:41):
in Philadelphia? It's Jimmy Garoppolo Niners. Yes, the addition of
Jerick McKinnon in that back field. Richard Sherman playing the
second half of the season has helped the forty Niners
get a wild card berth Let's go to our four
five matchup in New Orleans as the Saints, winners of
(30:02):
the NFC South, get the automatic beat to the wild
Guard where they will face Jonas his former favorite team,
the Chicago Bears. Chicago Bears the big winners of free
agency with Alan Robinson and Heck Chase Daniel and Tony
Parky's They're all of these editions for the Cleveland for
(30:23):
the Chicago Bears allow the Bears to move up to
get into a wild guard spot in the NFC. Guys,
these brackets so far, anything stand out to you in
the NFC, Well, I mean, you know it's about storylines, damn.
We've got to sell the storyline. You know, like when
when John Calipari and Rick Pattino face off in the
n c A tournament that won't happen anymore because there
(30:44):
were hookers on campus at Louisville, But when they face
off in the tournament, you know, it's always the Louisville
Kentucky thing, and then always the the rivalry going back
with the guys, they used to be friends and all
that stuff. How about in New Orleans the return of
in pace to New Orleans and Chase Dan committee knows,
(31:05):
the committee knows what they are doing. How about Chase
Daniel if Trabisky goes down a Chase Daniel Drew Brees
matchup in the playoffs former teammate, Yes, please, yes, let
me say yes please. Let's go to the live shot
of John Ramo sitting with the Los Angeles Rams as
they await their fates and if they're gonna make NFC playoffs? John,
(31:28):
are you nervous not seeing your team up on the
board as of yet? Wow? It's early, Dan, which gives
me some hope. But I am a little nervous. I
do have to admit. Could you do me a favor?
Could you tell Sarah to get off her phone during
the selection process? You know, I told her that she
would be the one in charge of getting that first call,
so that's why she's on the phone. I can tell
(31:48):
her if you'd like. Okay, sure, Well, let's reveal the
second seed in the NFC playoffs is the Minnesota with
Kirk Cousins a difficult schedule, will face the Vikings this season.
So despite the addition of the quarterback, Minnesota sits in
the number two spots for the second straight year. Can
(32:09):
we give a little credit to John Ramos being able
to somehow play this cassette tape sound of CBS's music
on the I don't I didn't even know he had
a cassette tape in the building and John found it
and we're listening to it here on Fox Sports Radio.
Are you ready for the number one seed in the
NFC playoff pixture? In it is the Los Angeles seed.
(32:34):
Additions additions atens, at quarterback or at cornerback. Yes, as defense,
as John Ramo said, But the Rams and their wind
now mode a top the NFC and the playoff picture.
Let's go to John Ramos for comment. John, now that
you know that you're a number one seed in the
NFC and playoffs, how do you feel? Dan? My theory
has always been, why wait for the new stadium. Let's
(32:56):
just play in a crappy place and win there. Oh
that is that is great? Wow? John, I'm happy for you, man.
Number one seed. Those don't come along often, they don't.
You did it? Yeah, considering we were in the dumps
about two years ago. People don't even talk about the
right you know what. They might even have a sellout
at one of their games if that keeps up. I'm
telling you, look at the look at the this man.
(33:19):
Look on the green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers. They
did not make the playoffs for the second straight year.
Disappointment in green Bay. Three initials, Dan and I t okay,
t everybody. Maybe they'll face the Atlanta Falcons, who also
missed out on the playoff picture. Um, all right, so
we've got the a f C coming up. I I
(33:40):
clearly was prepared for mine. That's why I let you
go first, because I just wanted to make you wait,
oh no, that's a HiT's I think there's more drama
in the definitely because I clearly got the email on time,
so that as I I was fully prepared, Dan fully prepared.
Here all right, Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for Doug
gott Leave here on Fox Sports Radio. If you have
some complaints you'd like to throw a Dan fire on
(34:00):
his seating for our our way too early NFC playoff brackets,
you can get him at Dan Buyer on Fox. Um
up next here on Fox Sports Radio, there's a really
good player in the world of sports who hates his teammates.
Now find out who we're talking about next on FSR.
This is the Doug Godlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
(34:23):
I'm Dan Buyer. That's Jonas Knox. John Ramos is here
as well as we are filling in for Doug. You
can always tweet us. I'm at Dan Buyer on Fox.
You can get Jonas at the Jonas Knox and get
John at J. S. Ramos zero six. You gotta get
to Hooters and try the new smoked Wings. It's a
whole new way to crave wings with all the taste
in half the calories. You can eat twice as many Hooters. Hooters,
(34:46):
lets us play a little game. This is game time
on the Doug Godlieb Show. Deb Carson is here today.
Hello Deb, after noon Dan, Hello Jonas. And the game
we get to play is real news fake news? All right?
(35:07):
That's right, So I'll give you the scoop. You let
me know whether you think it's real news or fake news. So,
starting with the NBA Warriors, guard Clay Thompson has expected
to miss up to two weeks after fracturing his right thumb.
Oh jeez, I've had a thumb injury before, and it
can't be just a two week injury. I think there's
I think there's just something a little wrong with that.
(35:29):
I'm gonna say, fake news, Jonas, where do you want
to go as somebody who wears a thumb ring, I'm
gonna go fake news to That's right it is. It's
a slight fracture in his right thumb. He suffered the
injury during the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the
Tea Wolves. He continued to play through it, but the
team has ruled him out for the next couple of weeks. Also,
(35:51):
they're going to be without Steph Curry, still dealing with
the right ankle sprain. Draymond Green also sitting out tonight
with right shoulder soreness. They should say, still do with
the hangover from Steph Curry's thirtieth birthday party. Come on,
Dan's fair to judge people. You know, hey, they canceled
practice yesterday. I do have it. I did uh injure
my thumb. I can't bend it right here. Yeah, like
(36:12):
Marcus smart As, that torn tendon and thumb out indefinitely fracture.
Brett five played through a broken thumb. Apparently, when you
when you get a cab, do you still do the
thumb thing because a lot of people just wave. I
still go old school thumb. Yeah. It just feels better.
I feel like I feel like like an adult, like
I've really come a long way. I only do that
when I hitch hike. Alright. Staying in the n B
(36:36):
A T wolves Ford Andrew Wiggins has whispered to teammates
he's unhappy about being the third option now behind Karl
Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler. Jonas, you don't take this on.
I'm gonna say it's uh, it's NBA, so you gotta
include pettiness. I'm gonna go real Okay, yeah, I'll go
(36:56):
with that. I think being the third wheel is is difficult.
We've talked to the chrisper Starred about this. I'll go
with real news as well. With you. Yeah, that's right.
Well he ain't that five year on five and a
half million dollar max extension back in October. Was hoping
to be the main guy, but the team is continuing
to build around not just him, but also all stars,
(37:18):
Towns and Butler. There is something there. There's something that
I like actually about it because he already got paid.
It's not like he's worried about a future contract and
is looking ahead saying like I'm not going to get
my money. I want to get my shots up. There
is actually something that I like about you know what,
this is kind of tough for me to take a
(37:39):
back seat to two guys, even though I'm getting an
enormous paycheck every other week. I mean, the fact is
is there's something that I like. At least that's it
shows a little competitiveness, I would say. Well, and also
Jimmy Butler. I wonder what was the conversation like when
Jimmy Butler came over, because everybody just you know, automatically
assumed somebody had to concede something, right, Like there had
(38:01):
to have been a conversation, Wow, this is your team,
this is you know, when Duane Wade took a backseat
to Lebron James when he came over and sort of
conceded all these you know, like made all these concessions
for Lebron James, and his points per game went down
because the whole goal was winning. I wonder if they
even had that conversation, like I wonder if Jimmy Butler
and them ever spoke about all right, so what does
(38:21):
this do for the dynamic here? Like who's whose team
is this? I think the Butler did it? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
there you go. John didn't hear that. He's going over
the John Ramo. So I'm moving on to the NFL.
The Cardinals cut Torn Matthew a few hours before the deadline.
Of course that's coming up just moments from now. But
(38:42):
Hisen and twenty nineteen salaries were both set to become
fully guaranteed. Is that real news or fake news? It's
gotta be real. I don't think he was gonna be
back next year. I'll support Dan here. I'm gonna stay real.
They're real all right, Yeah, that's right. They trying to
reach a deal to you know, restructure the contract, give
(39:03):
him a pay cut. He said thanks, but no thanks,
so honey badger moving on. When he came into the
NFL after the problems at L s U, he was like, wow,
they they've really found a spot for him. But once
he suffered the knee injury, I think two knee injuries, right,
I mean, yeah, there's that. That just stinks that it
cut that career short. You know, it reminds me. I
remember Mike Brown and in Nebraska the say for the
(39:25):
Bears who always was around the ball, always made plays,
was I mean scoring touchdowns like forcing turnovers. He was
so crucial for the Bears defense during the Lovey Smith
time there with erlak Or and Tilman and Briggs and
all those guys. Could never stay healthy like could He
had the worst luck with injuries. It's kind of like
(39:45):
them and some guys just a are a snake bit
by it and they just are never the same. Speaking
of snake bit, Cleveland Browns have reportedly removed Sae Kwon
Barkley from their draft board after signing former forty Niners
running back Carlos Hied to a three year, fifteen million
dollar contracts. I want to say fake, but it's the Browns,
so I could see them doing that. Um you want
(40:07):
to go fake, Dan, Yeah, I'll go fake. Yes, Yes,
that's right. The Browns say, quote nobody is ruled out
end quote. They just want to add hide does not
eliminate Barkley from their draft board. Is game time on
the Duck Gottlieb Show. It is the Gottlip Show. He's
(40:30):
Jonas knocks. I'm dan buyer, that is John Ramos. I
think the brown should come out and just be like,
we've eliminated quarterback, running back, and um, defensive end from
number one. We'll take all the other positions, but those
three we are not going to pick. I don't know.
I'm a little loss right now because somebody just yelled
thirty and ten in my ears loudest they possibly could.
Who do you think the Browns will take at number one? Oh? Well,
(40:52):
this is a lock. I've been trying to say this
boom and there are Bears. Johnny Ramos rolling along on
is Wednesday, glad to have you with us NFL free
agency grabbing the headlines. But one man really stealing the
show is Joe Thomas. Announced he's retiring after eleven seasons
in the National Football League, a career where he played
(41:15):
one hundred and sixty seven games and started one hundred
and sixty seven games. The third overall pick of the
two thousand seven draft, Joe Thomas calling it quits with
the Cleveland Browns today. Hell of a career man, And
I know that he dealt with the injuries, UM and
and sort of that that happened last year, but he
never really like there is something to where And I
(41:36):
would totally be one of these guys who would hang
on too long like I I know I would, because
I would just assume all I don't want to get
back healthy, I want to do you know, I would
just hang on too long. I would be Joe Nameth
in a Chargers jersey, um, like I would be that
guy Jerry Rice in a in a Sea Hawks jersey
like I would. I would beat that guy Steve Large
a lot more. Eight. Yeah, there and there's something. But
(41:57):
if you could walk away and your health team and
he's gonna have a broadcasting career and he's made a
ton of money and he's already done his thing and
he's going to the Hall of Fame, he's got to
feel good about where he stacks up. I played Emmett
Smith as an RB two with the Arizona Cardinals. Yeah, yes,
I have put him in there, maybe maybe even as
a wild card flex at times. That's, you know what
(42:20):
an underrated backfield in NFL history. Let me go ahead
and give you this too, because everyone talks about oh
Emmett Smith, Troy Aikman and and uh Michael Irv in
the Big Three. Here was the Big three Emmett Smith,
Larry Centers and Stony Case in Arizona. A right, that
is a big three, the three headed monster. That's what. Yeah, yeah, no,
(42:42):
I think it's a very good point. It's an underrated
big three. And Rod Tidwell on the outside. Sure, I
thought there's gonna be like a Frank Sanders reference, but
I don't know if that's if Frank Sanders crossed the Yes. Yeah, man,
nobody knows college football man. Hey, let's be rank. Joe
Thomas had a great career earlier on this show. Earlier
(43:05):
on the show. By the way, we've got Deshaun Watson
coming up in like fifteen minutes and they are promoting
just Cracking Egg. It's a new egg product by Orrida.
Let's see how many egg references we can make in
the interview, just nonchalant. I want you to count how
many times maybe we try to make an egg reference.
(43:27):
See if the shan catches on it all. I almost
cracked during the break. Hey, I gotta crossed that one
off on my list. Shawn Watson is no yoke man.
No he is. He is not. Neither is Joe Thomas.
But earlier on the show, Brady Quinn didn't tell any jokes,
but he did tell a funny story about his former
teammate and Joe Thomas, as they were both drafted by
(43:48):
the Browns first round picks in two thousand seven. Of course,
Brady Quinn Jonas is Tag Team Partners Sundays at eight
o'clock Eastern Time here on Fox Sports Radio, former Brown's quarterback.
Earlier today here on Fox Sports Radio's the Player I
Ever played against and with, and that you know includes
a lot of other Hall of Famers, guys like against
playing against ray Lewis ed read people like that. But
(44:09):
at the end of the day, Joe Thomas was the
best player I've ever played with. That's high praise. Yeah,
And because again they played against so many of those
great defenders, whether the Ravens teams, the Steelers teams, Like
how many Super Bowl champion teams did Joe Thomas play
against just in his division at least two? Right, because
the Ravens won one in two thousand twelve. The Steelers
(44:31):
won that before, and they were always perennial deep playoff
teams and contenders, and then the Bengals were in the
playoffs every single year, and that he always played against
good teams all the time, and he was all that
they had consistently and he never missed a start. It's amazing.
It's an amazing career. Yeah, and and always had most
of January off unfortunately, because the Brons just couldn't put
(44:54):
together a winner around well, like a personal shot at him,
Like I asked Brady if they wasted him, and Brady said, no,
that's ridiculous to think because it's not all about the quarterbacks.
And that's that's actually the point. They didn't put anything around,
so it's not like it's not all about not getting
a quarterback. They couldn't get a running game going. There
wasn't a defense. I mean, there was just there was
(45:17):
nothing around him except maybe what one bright season with
Derrick Anderson and in Braylon Edwards like that was it? Yeah, Um,
one of the things that that I didn't even I
didn't put it. Yes, sometimes people will say things and
they'll say it to you and for some reason it
resonates differently, like you know it, but when you hear
somebody else kind of kind of vocalize it, you know,
you'll go, oh, now, I kind of understand when Brady
(45:40):
was talking and he said, listen, you know the fact
that he didn't win a game last year. I'm sure,
but he wanted to go out in his own terms.
And I literally stopped me in my tracks because I
was like, you know, and how I think about it.
If I was a player in my final year, we
didn't win an effing game all season long. Man, that's
a rough way to go out. Yeah, good price, That
(46:00):
is terrible, Like, didn't win a single game. He won
one game in his final thirty two. That's unbelievable, man,
it's I mean, yeah, I mean it's at least at
least he could say he wasn't around for half of
the losses this past year. At least they were on
his shoulders. Yeah, I mean that that's that's just a
(46:23):
terrible thing. But it goes like, here's the question I
was thinking about, because, like before the show, is kind
of thinking about Joe Thomas in his career and all
this stuff. And I remember Eric Dickerson saying years ago
in an interview that he wouldn't trade in his Hall
of Fame credentials for a Super Bowl. Ring never won
a super Bowl, but he wouldn't trade in that for
(46:44):
a super Bowl, And he got kind of some heat
from people because they looked at us at all. You know,
it's kind of a selfish thing to say, But if
you really think about it, like if somebody said to you,
would you rather have a Hall of Fame career or
would you rather have won a super Bowl in your career,
the norm and perceived right answer you'll get is all,
I'd rather win a super Bowl because you know it's
(47:04):
team successful. I have that ring and you But the
honest answer is I'd rather be a Hall of Famer.
And I don't know if Joe Thomas looks around and says,
you know, I trade my career with that offensive lineman
or that guy over there, because you know what, man,
he's gonna go down is maybe the best tackle of
all time. If you just look at where what he
(47:24):
did and what he the team he did it on,
and the guys that he played against year in and
year out. I don't know that he would trade in
his career for anybody that's won a Super Bowl. I'm serious,
because I don't think I would. If you ask me, hey,
you're gonna play in the NFL for for ten or
eleven years. You're gonna be on a losing team every
single year, but you're going to the Hall of Fame
because you were that good at your job. I will
(47:45):
take that over a super Bowl every day. You can't
control everybody else, like, all you can do is take
care of what you have done. The Joe Thomas by
the way, that Joe Thomas leaderboard, if you will, um
since October eleven they beat the Rave that day. Between
then and now there were two wins unbelieved too amazing.
(48:07):
That's quite quickly, Mike Frances How many wins did Joe
Thomas have from that? Dan just mentioned all the way
to today to thank you? Interesting? How many tackles did
Joe Thomas have in his career as an NFL player? Six? Uh? Actually, Mike,
it's a couple of higher. It's it's uh, it's eight,
(48:32):
it's eight. Six. Six was close. If you're on the
prices right, you didn't go over, so that was good.
He will here, no, but but you guys are missing
the point here. He just gave two and he gave six.
Two plus six is eight. Oh there it is there.
That's that's how it puts together because it definitely wasn't
that John misread the number of fingers that you were
holding up through the class? It definitely wasn't that that
(48:52):
just happened. No, No, not at all, John, with glasses squinting.
Is I try to figure out a way to hold
up eight fingers and I went to Jonas. Instead of
doing four and four, I went a five and three.
So I went all on one hand and three on
the other, when I probably should have just gone four
and four. All right, John, I'm holding up a finger
right now? What is my That's that's there. It is
(49:17):
the better late than never, love it better late than ever.
It's funny because you bring up the aspect of if
you're looking if you're a player, would you either be
a Hall of Famer or a Super Bowl champ? When
you look at how the NFL and off free agency
is shaped out, looking ahead is always exciting. And the
(49:39):
Minnesota Vikings are looking at and now with Kirk Cousins,
and there's a lot to be excited about in the future.
But Jonas, this is a franchise that just lost in
the NFC Championship Game on four career and Super bowls,
never won the big game. Take a take an organization
like the Denver Broncos three super Bowl championships, but now
you don't have a quarterback. You really don't know direction.
(50:02):
And as you're trying to like weigh it, where would
you rather be as a fan? Would you rather be
on the team that maybe hasn't accomplished much in the past,
but now has this future going Would you rather be
the Denver Broncos, who you know, maybe you have the
Super Bowl wins of the past, but right now there
isn't much of a plan going on. It's where would
you rather be as a fan? If you're if you're
looking at, let's say the Broncos and Vikings, Well, I'd
(50:23):
rather be a Vikings fan because my organization has already
shown me multiple years in a row that they're willing
to go for it, and they do. They do a
couple of things that are smart, because this is what
gets lost in the free agency frenzy of all this.
The best players don't hit free agency, like teams don't
let them go like that. That's normally how this works. Like,
they don't hit free agency. So Minnesota has signed so
(50:46):
many of their own guys, They've brought back so many
of their own guys, and that's a credit to Rix Spielman.
But this is now the second time where they've gone
all in at the most important position on the field.
Because a couple of years ago, when teddy Bridge's leg
almost fell off and they needed a quarterback and they
knew they had a team that they could compete with,
he went out and traded a one and a four
(51:08):
for Sam Bradford. Okay, and you can say, oh, he
overpaid for that, because that the people forget the fourth
round pick, had they made the Super Bowl, would have
turned into a second round pick. So we're talking about
a first in a second round pick for a guy
with a history of injuries. But you know what, at
least he went for it. He swung for the fences
and said, I'm gonna try and make this work. And
(51:28):
then here they are again a couple of years later,
and they're saying, all right, we're gonna have to give
up a lot of money for this. Uh, he's only
gonna We only given him a three year contract, so
it's not like it's a long term deal, and who knows,
he could be a free agent in three years and
maybe we have to franchise him or address that situation later,
but you know what we're going for it. If I'm
a Viking fan, that's all you can ask for. Like, like,
(51:48):
at least my organizations trying man like, they're not sitting
on their hands, going, well, let's hope our players developed. No,
you have a clear need and you're chasing it, and
and you're not settling for a B level or Sea
level quarterback like some teams around the league have. You're
chasing and your gunning for your guy, and I commend
him for it. I also think that the Cousins contract
matches up well with the Vikings because the Seahawks have
(52:10):
been a topic of conversation for the last week, whether
it be the Sherman release or the Michael Bennett trade.
You've only got so long with that defense, and so
if you're Minnesota, to think that that defense is gonna
remain intact in four years is not realistic. So everything
with Minnesota at least lines up in a good wage
jonas where you're like, Okay, well our defense is here,
(52:33):
now let's do it with our quarterback. Now we're not
Hamstrong with a bad contract with extra years. I don't
actually think it fits with Minnesota doing that deal. Dan
Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox

joins us here on the Dug Gottlieb Show. Hey to Sean,
(53:40):
thanks so much for coming on. Let's let's start out.
First of all, you're coming to us thanks to just
crack an egg from or Ida. It has everything you
need to make a hot egg scrambling under two minutes
just by adding a fresh egg. How does Deshaud Watson
team up with a Rida and how how good are
(54:00):
these just cracking egg meals that you can get? Uh,
He's just a egg and it was a very good
um is uh uh good time actually trying and they
want to try it. Um they share that I got there,
con miss and and stay in touch because you definitely
something I want that. Um, you know, just something that
(54:23):
me and and the um the house got a connected
with and um, it was a good team to do that.
It work with partnership died and we had had a
great time. Hey Deshan, how's your rehab going? Man? How
healthy are you? Are you gonna be ready for the
start of the season. Yeah, I'm I'm not sure that
you know fully that to before the season Star de Sean.
(54:48):
Did you hurt your knee when you scrambled against the Seahawks?
Was that the play or or when did the injury
actually occur? I think the injury prayer in the Seattle game.
And it's just trying to completely tear a tour in
the in the press that we had Texans quarterback to
(55:10):
Shaun Watson with us here on Fox Sports Radio Dan
Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb. Um, I've always
wondered this and and I'm gonna ask you, and it's
not to bring up a bad moment, but I had
a knee injury. But I didn't do an a c L.
I just cracked something. When you suffered your knee injury,
How did it feel? What does it feel like? And
did you know right away something was wrong? Um? Until
(55:35):
I did it, so I felt normal. Um, I just
found to the ground, like I get that's from the
from the ground and then he hopped up and up
to do it. Just a weird situation. Um, but they
have turned you know, so keep you check my knee
and checked out in and he felt that a news
(56:00):
had a loose and Houston Texas quarterback to Shaun Watson
joining us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show. He's Jonas knocks.
I'm Dan Buyer. I know your season didn't end like
you wanted with the injury, and the Texans season didn't either,
but are things looking up? Is it like a sunny
side up sort of feel with the Houston Texans coming
into team. Oh yeah, I mean the pill yes, and
(56:27):
it's something that you know we were going tam that
you've grown from last year. But also just make sure
that a filling is and that motivation is different than
what we wanted for starting small things and a good
things will come. De Sean, you seem like a pretty
cool customer. Like you don't seem to get rattled too much.
(56:48):
How like how often do defenders try and egg you
on and get you to to sort of you know,
talk trash back and go at it with him? Um,
you have some guys that kind of talk back and forth.
But definitely, I'm just coming to I like to have fun.
(57:08):
I like to make sure the game is fun and
I get to up in the hype and now the
stuff taking Scratton, so you know it's time to time.
It's fun to talk like to certain people, um because
they only sometimes I don't take it personal, just knna
include the into the game. But um, sometimes you just um,
(57:30):
it's better to be quid and bought up. Deshaun Watson
of the Houston Texans joining us here on Fox Sports
Radio helping celebrate the launch of Just Cracking Egg with
alright A, you challenged your teammate DeAndre Hopkins taking the
egg toss challenge? What kind of guy is DeAndre? Is
he laid back? Is he an over easy kind of guy? What?
(57:52):
What kind of guy is DeAndre Hopkins? And tell us
about the egg toss challenge? No, so be up, just
lay bet Um, he loves he loves your vibe worked. Um,
he loved that front and he always had a smile
on his face whenever you meet him. And the dad
(58:14):
pussy was just is cool something that we could pass up.
Good opportunity to uh. Deshaun Watson, Texans quarterback with us
here on Fox Sports Radio, Dan Buyer Jonas stocks in
for Doug Gottlieb. Your teammate J J. Watt obviously very
active on social media. He has already sent a tweet
out to uh the Honey Badger Tyrone Matthew about joining
(58:37):
the Texans. Your thoughts on j. J. Watt trying to
poach the Honey Badger off free agency. I mean it's
always good to know good guys that you said, I
can't have to team up, you know, Um, you know,
if you want to be as strong as you can.
And I mean, I'm gonna used to have been a
big stan of Hunt of Badgers since he's the l
(58:57):
s U when I never seven, um man, I feel
like you should have wanted to know the topic. Um.
But honestly, I mean he's a guy that can be
plugged into our defense. That know. Bet you the guy
in his bank for wow. But I can come in
and produce very well. And you can check out the
video of Deshaun and DeAndre on YouTube and they're just
(59:20):
cracked the egg egg toss great stuff that you can see.
What I'm curious to Sean, Let's talk about the highs
of a win and a low of a loss, Like
what sticks with you more? Is it a great win?
Is it a bad loss? Maybe loss? You guys just
lay an egg. You don't have a great game. What
sticks with you more? The the highs of a win
or the lows of a loss? Um, I would probably
(59:47):
say the winnings just because, um, you know, it's it's
hard to win it. It's really hard to do that.
So you never want to know would have lost him?
It's kind of haven in your mintage in the end again,
Vibe that your branch for practice in this thing isn't
a you know, humbling and really worthy of you know
(01:00:09):
kind of one in put in work that you in
and you continue to win and have fun with it.
You don't want to get a press and to the
lab and you know with the with the teammates and
of fun and wearing again. Un sorry, you're so You're
entering a year two of your career, and I know
you had the injury last year, of course, but quarterbacks
(01:00:31):
always talked about developing and and sort of getting their
body in shape. Are we going Should we expect to
see a more yoked up Deshaun Watson entering year two?
Or you're just gonna focus on on the fundamentals and
try and get better and and more focus on the
team leadership aspect. Now, I'm gonna get stronger, but I'm
not gonna be too big. Uh. You know, I'll leave
(01:00:53):
that for you know, the running backs and my serious
and trying to take it. I'm trying to take your
good Let's hit that as they can so uh you know,
for me, Uh, fundamentals do they make sure that the
maintenance of the body is healthy And you know, I
give best young and trying to prevent injury so I
stay on the field and producing some games. The Just

So all you have to do is add a fresh
egg stirred up a microwave for a fresh, quick and
hot breakfast for any day of the week before we
let you go. Jean, looking at how is this offense
gonna take off? Are you guys gonna be you know,
hatching new schemes, do different things to get this offense
(01:01:39):
running on all cylinders? How do you look forward to
this offense? In uh that thing I said, he's off
He is young, fresh, and and it's gonna be very exciting.
White and trying to put out a lot of clints.
Do the best we can be U as individuals and
(01:02:02):
be as you can be at the offense and every
team and um, you know, disclosed many points as you
can they have to do so and make sure that
the team we're saying again, word about again. Deshaun Watson
the Houston Texans joining us. Go to YouTube check out
they just Cracked the Egg Egg toss video with DeAndre Hopkins.
Hey to Sean, good luck of the rest of the rehab,
(01:02:23):
good luck in and thinks so much for the time.
Appreciate it. Thank you. Deshaun Watson, the Houston Texans. I'm
watching this just cracking egg thing. I was telling you
about it before the show that I've seen the commercial twice.
I don't get it. How does it so? You just
you put an egg inside and it just automatically. Yes,
(01:02:43):
it's the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life.
I'm watching it on YouTube right now and I don't
it's the most amazing they've ever seen in my life.
I don't get it. The the multiple there's a bunch
of ingredients. They just they come in individually wrapped packages. Cheese,
breakfast meet. Yeah, it's pretty amazing. Deshaun Watson is pretty amazing,
(01:03:04):
Um Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in for Dug Gottlieb here
on Fox Sports Radio. I want to tell you about Farmers.
As conditions on the field change, so can your insurance needs.
Talk with a farmer's agent today so you can assess
whether your policy is game ready. Find an agent at
farmers dot com. Are Farmers coming up next year on
Fox Sports Radio. It is part two of our way
(01:03:26):
too early NFL Playoff bracket. Okay, part two one half
of the NFL could look drastically different. All right, we
will explain how next, but first we're all the latest
from around the world of sports. Step Carson, guys, I
can officially wish you a happy new year. As the
NFL's new league year has officially begun. Brown's tackle in
Future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas has retired from the NFL.
(01:03:48):
The tend time Pro bowler played his entire eleven year
NFL career with Cleveland Dolphinsive released Pro Bowl defensive tackle
and Dominican Sue, who was just three years into a
monster six year, one million dollar contract with Miami team
is gonna get hit hard as far as a cap
penalty twenty two point to mill nine point one at
mill of that will count against the eighteen salary cap
(01:04:09):
thirteen point one mill against twenty nineteen Cardinals release safety
to Ron Matthew, who declined to restructures contract and take
a pay cut. Teddy Bridgewater headed to the Jets on
a one year deal that could be worth up to
fifteen million bucks. According to NFL media, Titans signed former
Patriots running back Dion Lewis to a four year, twenty
three million dollar contract. Former forty Niners running back Carlos
(01:04:31):
Hide will sign with the Brown San Francisco, bringing in
former Vikings running back Jared McKinnon and finally guys. Green
Bay Packers fans still mourning the loss of receiver at
Jordy Nelson. The receiver, however, has moved on. Nelson has
scheduled visits with the Raiders, Saints, and Dance Seahawks. Hey hey, hey,
although I do think that the Seahawks really should just
(01:04:53):
take a year off, let everybody go, just clean house,
and then you know, used eighteen as a way to
get through it, and then maybe start fresh ten months
from now. That's that's what I think is the real
plan that the Seahawk should do. Whether they listen to
me or not, they haven't for the last thirty plus years.
I don't know how they would start now, but that's
what I would hope they would do. Already given up Dan, already,
(01:05:14):
come on, man, No, I just think that there's there's
it's not an easy fix. There's not one thing that
you can do to change to turn things around. I
just don't think that that's the case. And so signing
a player you need to build the foundation again because
the foundation that you had there for the last six
years on defense has gone away. So you gotta figure
(01:05:35):
out whether you do it on offense, whether you do
it on defense, but you've got to build some sort
of foundation to continue having success in Seattle. UM. Alright,
So Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottliepierre on
Fox Sports Radio. So we Dan last hour. You did
the NFC way too early playoff bracket? All right? All right,
(01:05:55):
so you did did the NFC. Now do you want
to recap the NFC and the seating, So I'll reveal
the bracket. The wild card matchups were Eagles in Niners
in a three six matchup, with Philadelphia being the three seed.
The Saints were the four seed. Win in the NFC South,
they would host the fifth seeded Bears in NFL playoffs,
which actually probably twenty nineteen on the calendar, but you
(01:06:16):
catch my drift. The two seed was the Vikings and
the number one overall seed in the NFC the Los
Angeles Rams. All right, so it's not a time let's brackets.
All right, you're looking live all wrong sport. All right,
here we go. Your three six matchup, Dano, your three
(01:06:40):
six matchup paints a couple of a familiar faces here alright. So,
and you know, I'm all into us storylines. I like
the the interest to this. Your three seed is the
New England Patriots. I don't think we'd see them this
earlier the bracket. I got to be honest and and
(01:07:01):
and look, I didn't have them making the tournament. I
did not have them making it. And then all of
a sudden I happened to go on Twitter, and I
saw that they resigned Rex Burkehead, and I said, boop,
right up to three, you go, right up to three?
You go. Um. And also I think it helps that
you're still in a division with the Dolphins, the Bills,
and the Jets. So right, there is an extra six
(01:07:22):
wins each and every year for the New England Patriots.
So for that, I put the Patriots is my three seed.
They will be facing off the six seed Houston Texas
and the Houston Texans. And ask me, Dan, go ahead
and ask me why the Houston Texans got in as
a six Why are the Texans in as a succeed
(01:07:43):
because we just talked to their starting quarterback, perfect, perfect,
We just talked to him. So they so because of that,
and because of the loyalty to the show and the
fact that he appeared on the show, we give we
give Deshaun Watson a little bit of love. He is
the six seed with the Houston Texans there and the
opening round, all right, you're time for your four five
matchup in the a f C playoffs. The four seed
(01:08:06):
goes to the Kansas City Chiefs Mahmes game. Now, you
may think, well, you're turning the franchise over to a
quarterback who's never never played much, and you know, you're
you're just it looks like a different team. We're not
really sure about what's going on there in Kansas City.
But here's what I will say. I give Andy Reid
(01:08:27):
a lot of credit. He could have continued to do
the same thing and be the same coach and and
have a bunch of regular season success and struggle in
the postseason. But he realized, I've hit the limit here,
I've gone as far as I can with Alex Smith.
So because he had the you know what's to make
the switch at quarterback and to turn it over to
Patrick Mahomes. He gets my four seed in the right.
(01:08:51):
Now you're five seed ready for your five seeds? Well,
I just want to quick get the live shot of
Ryan Music, our executive producer, i'd angles fan. He is
with the Bengals as they are anticipating a bid to
the a f C playoffs. So far, you've seen half
the bracket. Ryan, how do you and the Bengals feel
about what you've seen so far? I'm feeling very strong, Dan,
(01:09:14):
There's no doubt in my mind we're going to get
that number one overall. Well, Ryan, pretend you're on the
set of Woolly Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, not the
new one with Johnny Depp that sucked, but the old
one back in the day with Gene Wilder. Okay, And
you know how you you open up the wrapper and
(01:09:35):
you try and see if there's that golden ticket. There
is a little bit of gold showing in this because
as I opened the wrapper here for your five seed,
I see the letter b Okay, okay for Broncos. Broncos
get your five seed. Uh. And this is strictly because
they're trying to trade Trevor Simeon. That is the only
(01:09:56):
reason they got in. I have no idea what the
hell the Broncos are. I don't know what they're you
on the top of the draft case. Keenum is the quarterback.
But just just the fact that they're no longer trying
to parade out a seventh round draft pick as a
legitimate starter in this league and wasting the careers of
Damarrius Thomas and others on that team. I give Denver
the benefit of the doubt, so they get your five seed.
(01:10:18):
You ready, You're ready for the top two seeds. Just
to recap the bracket wild card matchups, the third seeded
Patriots will host the six seeded Texans. The Chiefs, winners
of the a f C West, will take on the
Denver Broncos. The five seed your two seed. Hey, Ryan Music,
(01:10:40):
don't do this to me. Jonas, peel them back that
rapper again. There's a b showing. Come on for the
Buffalo Bills. The two seed is the Buffalo Bills. I
am all about activity, all right. Just show me some activity,
you know, like if you're a school going a fight,
(01:11:00):
sometimes what they'll do is say, well, you know, who
are you gonna give that round to Well, I'm gonna
give the round to the guy that was more busy.
The Bills have been pretty busy. They've made some moves.
They've already traded up in the draft. They traded away
a tackle like they have been out there, and they
are chasing what they feel is a franchise quarterback in
the draft. They'll probably gonna make another move to try
and creep into the top six or top five to
(01:11:22):
try and secure one of these quarterbacks. Based on that alone,
the Buffalo Bills are my two seed also because it's
the only time they're ever gonna be seated this high anyway,
so may as well do in the offit. This is
amazing because now you've got a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers,
the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Tennessee Titans, all teams that ended
(01:11:44):
up making the postseason this past season. Now only one
spot available. Someone is gonna have their heart broken. Who
will it be? Jonas? As you reveal the number one
seed in the a f C. Hey Ryan music, Oh Jonas,
I'm pulling back that rapper again. I see a nice
(01:12:05):
shiny B for the Browns. Your Cleveland Browns are the
number one seed in the a f C way too
early prediction playoff racket. Your Cleveland Browns, listen, man, I
just told you I'm a big fan of activity. Show
me some activity, and the Browns have been active. I
(01:12:26):
love that they went out and got Jarvis Landry. I
love that the Browns went out and grabbed Tyrod Taylor,
who's a much better quarterback than people give him credit for.
What was the biggest issue in Cleveland last year? Other
than the fact they didn't win a game? What was
the biggest issue in Cleveland last year? The quarterback position? Yeah,
and the number of times he turns the ball over.
That's one less thing Hugh Jackson's gotta worry about with
(01:12:47):
Tyrod Taylor. They're not going to turn the ball over.
I don't love the idea of Joe Thomas deciding you
wanted to retire on the day we decided to do
these A off playoff a f C playoff brackets. But
the fact of the matter is I give credit for
the activity. So your one seat is the Cleveland Browns,
followed by the Bills at two, Patriots at three, Chiefs
at four, Broncos at five, and the Houston Texans at
(01:13:10):
six that it is an amazing bracket. Jon Gruden and
the Raiders didn't crack through the three playoff teams that
I mentioned didn't make it, and UH bolts up not
so much. Sorry not happening Bolts there is. By the way,
Sebastian Janikowski is visiting the Chargers. That is the big
news in UH in Charger camp. Oh you know what's
(01:13:34):
great about doing a part one? In part two of this?
We're not gonna have a part three? Right? I don't
think because because I don't want to hear one shining moment?
I know, I hate that. I hate that Jonas is
the only one. How can you hate one shining moments?
I found out two things today. I'm the only one
who hates one shining moment and apparently I'm the only
one who liked Billy Packer. I don't know what that
(01:13:57):
doesn't about me. Oh, by the way, how many egg
references did we have in the interview? What was the
What was the official number? The official total was nine nine? Wait,
Mike Friends saysa how many egg references did we make
in the Deshaun Watson interview? Three four, five, six, seven,
(01:14:17):
eight nine? There it was nine thanks to a writer
for hooking him up in evidence. Come on, I still
don't know how it works. It doesn't make sense to me.
I still haven't figured out. I said, it's like the
magic trick. You know, the magic trick. I've never figured out.
Where they put the woman in the box and they
put the knives through her. How the hell does that work? Um,
(01:14:40):
I can't reveal my secret. I will not reveal how
they do. It's unbelievable. You can see my magic show
this from alright, Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for Doug
gottliep here on Fox Sports Radio. If you would like
to see Dan Buyer's magic show, you can get details
(01:15:00):
at Dan Buyer on Fox. For all that. Coming up
next though, there is a well known former player who
is actually standing up for a guy that some people dislike.
All right, find out who we're talking about next on
FSR these Jonas knocks, I'm Dan Buyer. That's John Ramos
in fort Doug today. Glad to have you along. Jonas
(01:15:24):
just revealed the a f C tournament bracket for the
NFL playoffs come next winter, and Jonas the top two
seeds Browns and Bills as you made the reveal, and
now we're getting feedback. Um, I'm gonna read this as is,
or read this exactly as it is sent to me.
(01:15:45):
All Right, your idiot, the Patriots cannot be the number
three if the Bills are the number two, they are
in the same division. If you think the Bills when
the a f C East, the Pats cannot be higher
than the number five. Also, the Texans have to be
(01:16:06):
the number three in your bracket if the Chiefs are
number four. Let me get this straight. Like, from all
of that that we did, that's what you took from it.
It's it's an offseason n c A slash NFL playoff,
(01:16:28):
way too early prediction bracket and if you're gonna call
somebody an idiot, don't include the R at the end
of you How did like, how did people actually think
that was a serious think a serious seating. When you
started to say I'm revealing a b I figured something
(01:16:50):
was up. I was like, oh, jeez man, what I'm
ready for a Jaguars and amazing, amazing, But your idiot, Jonas,
your idiot, I'll tell you who's not an idiot, And
now that would be wasn't Stephen Jackson, former NBA player
(01:17:13):
who is sticking up for a current NBA player in
Russell Westbrook. I one of those guys that broken toe
anything that I've dealt with, I played and I played
hard game everything I have. You would never hear me
say anything bad about Russell Westbrook because he shows every
night how much he loves the game. I would love
(01:17:33):
to play with a guy like Russ. Anytime you got
a guy that stuffs the stat she, that does everything
for your team, how can you go against him? You
can't blame him. I think you need to blame those
other guys on the team. They need to pick their
energy level up. They need to play with more passion
and so did they care about the game like Russ doing?
That team might be better. But when I go, when
you have a guy like Russ, you got a hold
on to him because that passion you can't teach. That
(01:17:54):
was Stephen Jackson on First Things First earlier today on
Fox Sports One. Still ending up for Russell Westbrook, who
became the fourth player in NBA history to record one
triple doubles in his career. You know, if John ever
for almost ever decides, you know, I'm kind of kind
of over this whole technical producer John Ramo's interview podcast
(01:18:17):
thing that I'm doing. He should just be like one
of those like voice guys for like a late night
talk show host, because, um, the way he just screamed
first things first in my ear was alarming, Like it
was like the space shotle landed in the studio and
it was really good. By the way, can you can
(01:18:38):
you guys guess? Can you guess who the other three are? Now?
I was in for Jason Smith last night with Mike Carmen,
and I had to pop up into my head right away,
and then I kind of lost the third one that
not including Russell Westbrook, the other three NBA players with
a career trible doubles? Do you guys know? I yeah,
(01:18:59):
let me let me John, Do you want to take
any guesses? I would say, Can I say Lebron James? Okay,
yeah you can, yeah, but it would be wrong, It
would be wrong. That's okay. I guess what immediately popped
into my head? I'm sorry, well, because I was just thinking,
like um, and I'm just racking my brain. Definitely don't
look at this up or anything, but like like what
(01:19:20):
Oscar Robertson jumped into my head because of the he
averaged a career, you know, a drible double for a season. Yeah,
I mean like that like ends up hopping you here
that all the time when you're trying to argue who
the best. Was the next one that I thought Jason Kidd.
Of course, that's what Jason Kidd's career was made of,
mostly most of his career. And then the third one
(01:19:41):
is the one that kind of stumped me. And then
I was like, oh, yeah, duh, okay, can I guess
Jerry Ceasting? It was not Jerry Ceasting of busted self?
Can okay? Let me? Can I make another guess? Yes,
Troy Hudson, it was not Hudson. Damn it? Um, John,
(01:20:03):
you want to guess again? No, it's not Dino roger
um double double? Is it recently or in the last
like John, Yeah, I'm sure you were right after. Is
it recent or not? He's a Lakers fan, So that's
why I kept going to John, thinking it would Magic Johnson.
(01:20:25):
But yeah, it was Magic Johnson was the other. I
was gonna say Vinn Baker, but I thought we were
talking about barte Man. Come on, but that classes is
pretty pretty rarefying there, I know, but I think it's
kind of a I think it's only a guard staff. Yeah,
(01:20:47):
it's it's a bit of an overrated stay. It's like
the cycle. You know, people people treat the cycle in
baseball as if it's like the greatest accomplishment the word,
Oh my god. It's no, it's like a lot of
things happen, like you you know, it's it's it's more
of a of an oddity than it is a really
cool stat Like what's more impressive is four home runs
in a game or three home runs in a game?
(01:21:10):
Like getting a base hit and a double and a
triple and a home run in the same game. I mean,
it's a great game, but it's it's sort it's not.
It's kind of an oddity. It's not really a place
to catch a great game as Hooters. You gotta get
to Hooters and try the new smoked Wings. It's a
whole new way to crave wings and with all the
taste in half the calorie, so you can eat twice
as many Hooters. This is the Doug Gottlieve Show on
(01:21:31):
Fox Sports Radio. That's John Ramos. He's Jonas Knocks I'm
Dan Buyer coming up next. Did you hear what happened
on the eve of the n C Double A Tournament?
Jonas and John Ramos here as well cracked an egg
with Deshaun Watson earlier a while, Joe Thomas can crack
a bottle as retirement begins, the Browns left tackle, retiring
(01:21:55):
after eleven seasons in the National Football League, calling it
quits today. A career that's all him start every single
game that he played. It was only this past season
where he suffered the injury that cost him half of
the season. But Joe Thomas done after eleven years in
the NFL. You know, Dan Talkers came out with their
top one hundred sports talk radio hosts and shows around
(01:22:19):
the country. Guess who was number one oh one? Me
and you babe, John Ramos as well the John Ramo Show.
Come in on that one oh one point five. That's
usually my temperature when I'm listening to the John Ramo Show,
(01:22:40):
and they gets so hot and bothered by it. Is
there a John Ramo Show today? There is? All right,
you're gonna enjoy it Today's John Ramos Show. I know
you will. You didn't you didn't notice him doing his
dry read earlier. Well I did. I gave a pun
and he was not paying attention at all. But that's
(01:23:00):
the way that it works. So about thirty minutes the
John Ramo Show comes up. But Joe Tomas just one
of the big stories over these last couple of days
in the National Football League as the new league year
is here. Free agency really well underway yesterday with all
of the breaking stuff that we had, but Joe Thomas
the most the latest and maybe Joe to sit away
(01:23:20):
at least in my mind surprising because I just was
of the mindset you don't want to end your career
on an injury. The Bronze have got have made moves
this offseason. Things could be looking up. Maybe it's an
opportunity for Joe Thomas to get a taste of glory
and a taste of heck, maybe a playoff berth who knows,
but at least to give a shot at it. Not
(01:23:42):
gonna happen. Calling me quits after eleven years, Yeah, and
he so. I mean, obviously the injuries have have stacked
up a little bit, but he was still playing at
a high enough level to where if he decided he
wanted to play. He'd be getting calls teams said, oh listen,
we would gladly take him on our team, but he
just listen, you're you're gonna walk away. And these guys
have all you noticed this, especially recently in the last
(01:24:02):
several years, and people try and try and spin it
towards it towards a negative angle on the NFL where
you're seeing guys younger and younger walk away from the game. Um,
Calvin Johnson was one of them. Uh. You see a
lot of these guys to where they could probably still
keep playing a dealt with some injuries, but they decided
to walk away. And the first thing you'll hear is, well, listen,
(01:24:25):
I mean football is a dangerous sport. And now they're
now they're more educated when it comes to concussions. Now
they're more educated. No, they're just more educated period. I
think guys have seen too many stories of players blowing
through their money and not taking care of things and
handling it the right way. It's why you're seeing more
and more players even when they're playing, whether it's in
the off season or even you know during bye weeks,
(01:24:47):
that are doing broadcasting runs. Uh, you know, special playoff
appearances for some of these guys. I think everybody is
just more educated in general to where they realize you're
never gonna make the money that you're going to make
while playing football anywhere else, but you still can set
yourself up for success long term if you just handle
(01:25:09):
things the right way. Joe Thomas already has a podcast
he's doing. He's going to get as many broadcasting opportunities
that are out there they're gonna be offered to him.
I think he's he's looked at this and said, hey,
I can walk away. I don't have to I don't
have to feel pain anymore. I don't have to be
hurting on a Monday or Tuesday. I'm in my early thirties.
He's good. He's had a great run, great career. You
(01:25:30):
mentioned the podcast, it's the Tamahawk podcast that he does
with Andrew Hawkins, and I mentioned earlier that I wondered
if he looked at the Brown's future and maybe said,
maybe that's something I want to be a part of. Well.
Thomas addressed that on his own podcast about the future
in Cleveland. This thing is is going up fast from here.
The moves that John Dorsey has made this offseason We
(01:25:50):
obviously believe in Hugh Jackson. I think this team is
going to be relevant a lot quicker than people realize.
So he does see an upswing for the Cleveland Browns,
it's just he's not going to be a part of it. Well,
and and let's be honest about the division. Um, Pittsburgh's
got a quarterback who's near the end. He's already hinted
at retirement a couple of times after Roethlisberger. Who knows
(01:26:13):
what the hell is there? Uh? The Joe Flacco clearly
not even close to the player he was. A couple
of years ago, there were reports that John Harbaugh might
get fired. Um, you know, the Cincinnati Bengals Marvin Lewis
was quitting, and then forty eight hours later he had
a new two year deal. Like, so you don't, you
have no idea what the hell is happening in Cincinnati.
So this is an opportunity for Cleveland to kinda kind
(01:26:36):
of steal some headlines and and and kind of get
the ball moving in the right direction and spend money
and and be make actual effective moves when it comes
to free agency and all that. And they've already made
a couple of trades. I like Tyrod Taylor a lot
more than than I think a lot of people do.
Jarvis Landry, pairing him up with Josh Gordon, you might
have a top three to five wide receiver combo in
(01:26:56):
the entire league. So yeah, I mean, they're they look
like they're starting to figure things out there in Cleveland.
And those U two top picks that they've gotten in
the first round at number one and number four. Earlier
on the program, we were joined by a former teammate
of Joe Thomas's. In fact, he was in the same
draft classes Thomas, as he was also a first round pick.
Jonas hosts a show with them on Sunday night here
(01:27:17):
on Fox Sports Radio. As Brady Quinn talked about what
it's like to play with Joe Thomas. He's the best
player I ever played against and with, and that you
know includes a lot of other Hall of Famers guys
like against, play against Ray Lewis and read people like that.
But at the end of the day, Joe Thomas was
the best player I've ever played with, as simple as that. Yeah, um,
and and I've heard what's what's funny about Joe Because
(01:27:40):
everyone said all the all the quarterbacks you've played for
all the this and that, Like he just showed up,
did his job, didn't care who the quarterback was. You know,
you hear these stories sometimes to where they'll say, yeah,
well so and so blocked differently for one quarterback than
they did the other. You know, these guys seem to
care more this time that, Like he just showed up
(01:28:01):
every single week. You counted on him every single time
he was out there. Brady even said, I never had
to worry about my backside. I never had get your
minds out of the gunner. I never had to worry
about being sacked from that side because it was just
never gonna happen. Like, like, just think about that. If
you know you can pencil something, it's like your day
is made easier when something goes a certain way and
(01:28:22):
when you can depend on something every single day, Like
a car you get in and you turn the key
and it starts every time, which you've had a beater
of a car, you know what that's like to to
have it not start sometimes, Like every single time you
turned on a Browns game, Joe Thomas was gonna be
there and he was gonna be the best player in
the field. It's amazing. It's really amazing what he did
there in a in a not very not too hot
(01:28:43):
situation as far as competitively and and just some of
the wins that they were not able to put together
while I was it one in the last thirty two Yeah,
not fun. It was. They went a game in October
and since that point they had won two since I believe. Yeah,
(01:29:04):
it's I mean, there are some Olympians with more wins
in the Olympics than the Brons have had over the
last just kidding. You mentioned the Ravens, and earlier on
the show, we did a Broncos Vikings comparison. If you're
a fan, who would you rather whose shoes would you
rather be in? If you're a Browns would you choose
(01:29:25):
to be a Browns or Ravens fan on this day?
Only Jonas only moving forward, not looking back, and putting
in the two Super Bowl wins that Baltimore has. Oh
man um Now to hedge my bets, I would say
(01:29:46):
Ravens because if the Browns get good, you could claim
the Browns because they were the Browns. I would say
the Browns only because there's so much to celebrate, and
that sounds like an odd statement. But when you haven't
won a game, when they do win a game next,
oh my god, you know what a what a what
(01:30:07):
a good feeling that's gonna be Like there's like only
good could come from the Browns because it can't get
any worse. I think they're out of bad. They're out
of the bad. It can't get any worse. Three and
thirteen is a bad season, right, Yes, that's a three
improvement over last year. That's unbelievable. Yeah, hey, anything time
(01:30:28):
zero zero, that's the that's yeah, that's the trouble that
that's when you look at the Ravens and I used
them for an example, just for the fact of you've
got Joe Flacco as a quarterback that how long is
that going to happen? At least the Browns have draft
picks and they've made moves, and it seems that the
Ravens is a French and there are other teams that
(01:30:49):
you could pick. But you when you mentioned that division
on how it just lays out, maybe even do it
with the Bengals. I mean, I was not high on
the Bengals this past year. The faring maybe a little
bit better than than I would have thought. But I
just think that there's a lot to be excited about.
And it's only mars. I mean, obviously it changes, but
(01:31:10):
at least you've got maybe the unknown is better if
you're a fan of those is there? And I was
I just thought of this, now, if you were to
go through division by division, is there a division in
the NFL that's had more coaching security than the a
f C North, Because think about it, Marvin Lewis has
been there forever. Mike Tomlin has been in Pittsburgh a
(01:31:32):
long time now, John Harbaugh has been in Baltimore a
long time now. If you were to go around every
single division, I'll bet you can't find a division that's
got three coaches that have been with their current teams
as long as those guys have, Which which what? Which
is what makes the Browns look that much worse? Like
if if everybody's house on the street is really nice
and and yours looks like it's got cars stacked up
(01:31:55):
in the front yard and you and trash line around,
it makes it look even worse just based on your surroundings,
Like every single team in that division no stability at
least from the coaching position, and two of them know
it from the quarterback position that it just makes the
Browns with that much worse you've got. Yeah, I mean
Bill Belichick is the longest tenured that it's Marvin Lewis second,
(01:32:17):
and I believe, and I'm Tomlin and McCarthy. I believe
we're in the same year. So when Mike McCarthy went
to Green Bay, I know Sean Payton got the job,
this would be twelve years ago with the Saints, but
you wouldn't have that tenure in the NFC South. So
I mean, so you would have Tomlin and Lewis and
(01:32:39):
then add John Harball into that, who I think was after.
I mean, they're all top ten and tenure they have
to be, yeah, I mean, I mean Pete Carroll. As
crazy as it is, I believe it's top ten in
tenure NFL coaches being with their current team right now.
It's it's crazy. I just in that one division, like
in a league where stability is such an issue, in
six or seven coaches clipped every year. I mean, there
(01:33:01):
was talks before this past year they were gonna be
upboards of ten coaches losing their job. Like almost a
third of the entire league is going to be out
of a coach and in that one Division three or
four have been. You could just like Joe Thomas, you
could just pencil in consistency from the coaching staff every
single year. It's it's it's actually crazy. And then when
(01:33:22):
you're when you're the Cleveland Browns and you look look
around and it's a reminder six times a year that
the other team is better than you one of the
most important things, which is finding the right head coach.
Like that's a And then there's maybe there's something to
them why they wanted to keep Hugh Jackson. They saw
what what other teams around the division and said, listen,
(01:33:42):
just let's stick with this guy. You know, like, don't
don't just go turn and burn coaches. It's a bad
look comparatively speaking to the competition, Like let's let's stick
with this guy and see if we can turn it around.
But let chick hired in two thousand Marvin Lewis two
thousand three, Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton in two thousand six.
Then it was Tomlin in two thousand seven. That actually
(01:34:02):
makes sense because Kawer went out with that Super Bowl
win against the Seahawks and Super Bowl forty Steelers beat
the Seahawks, and that Super Bowl shut shut Up. Two
thousand eight was when John Harbaugh ended up taking over,
and then after that Jason Garrett and Pete Carroll and
since two thousand and eight the Cleveland Browns have four wins.
So uh, Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for Doug gott
(01:34:27):
Leep here Fox Sports Radio. I want to let you
know about Farmers as conditions on the field change, so
can your insurance needs. Talk with the Farmers agent today
so you can assess whether your policy is game ready.
Find an agent at Farmers dot com. Are Farmers? You
can get Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox
you can get me at the Jonas Knocks. Coming up
next though, we will find out the very latest from
(01:34:48):
around the NFL. Rumors are swirling. We'll get to the
bottom of him next year on Fox Sports Radio. I'm
Dan Buyer. That's Jonas Knocks, John Romos here as well
a b k R edition as we're in for today's show,
brought to you by True Car. I'm like car shopping
can be confusing, not anymore. With True Price of True Car.
Now you can know the exact price you'll pay for
your next car. So if it's a true card to
(01:35:09):
enjoy a more confident car buying experience. Ah, yes, Kenny Loggins,
it's such a great So again it takes thirty seconds
to get into the chorus of the song this. I
saw Top Gun the other night for the first time
in years. That movie stinks. Oh my god, I can't
(01:35:31):
believe people like that movie. It blows my mind how
anybody likes that sweet him at Top Gun Knocks. That's
where you can get Jonas Knocks. You can get our
next guests simply at Alex Marvez covering the NFL for
Sporting News, and of course you can hear him on
Serious x M NFL Radio. Alex Marvez joins us, Hey, Alex,
good to talk to you again, gentlemen. Great and thank
(01:35:52):
you so much for playing all the newest hits are
very very neat. After we let you go, safety dances
on deck. Pat, you could forget Canada's own absolutely, Hey,
who can forget Joe Thomas? I mean retiring today after
eleven years. Were you surprised that he decided to hang
him up? No? No, no, no no, he was down
(01:36:14):
about two and or thirty pounds. You know, after he
got hurt, he just started dropping wait and you know,
and and the thing was too that and if, by
the way, we're not going to forget Joe Thomas, because
he'll be on a TV near you sooner than later.
We know that at some point he's going to be,
you know, doing an announcing gig. And you know, he's
a very colorful guy, great personality and and you know,
you didn't hear a lot of those quotes and things
(01:36:34):
like he's not a self promoter. He wasn't what you know,
during like his first ten years with the Browns, and
then all of a sudden you see him on Twitter
and making statements and being a lot more opinionated and
letting his proverbial hair down. So he'll be announcing, maybe
even at Fox. Who knows how that goes. But you know,
again we've gotta be sensitive and not say that stuff
on the radio. Right, Oh listen, And you know it's
(01:36:57):
a shame and I'll be right in this for Thursday
Morning Sporting News Com. The Browns finally have a direction,
they finally have a plan, They finally have some competency
around them for maybe the first time that you really
feel good about this franchise, you know, and since Joe
Thomas has been with them in Cleveland, so you know,
that's why it's just a shame that he's not going
to be around for it. But listen, this is a
guy so closely tied to the organization. He had the
(01:37:18):
chance to play else where, he didn't take it. He
has been loyal to that team and and there's benefits
to be paid for that, and you know sometimes and
Santonio Holmes to talk to me about this as well.
With the Stelers, his great regret was, you know, doing
not doing the things right off the field to remain
with the Pittsburgh Steilers, because it would have meant a
lot to him to be able to retire He did
retire as a member of the Steelers, but to have
played his entire career there. So even though the grass
(01:37:39):
maybe looks like it's greener somewhere else, there is something
to be said for finishing your career with one team.
Alex Marves, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider, Sporting News, NFL
Reporter with this year on FS are um, what's the next?
I don't know the big moves. I think a lot
of the big names already off the market. Who are
you watching now? That could be an interesting pick up
for a team out there? Justin Pugh? And can you
(01:38:00):
play left tackle? Can the Patriots sign him? I mean,
you know, because this the big thing to me now
is what does New England do at left tackle? I mean,
Tom Brady has always had someone to watch his back,
right and right now with Nate's solder getting to a
contract with the New York Giants, and listen, you know
you can't blame him for taking the money and running.
I mean you're talking reportedly four years, sixty two million dollars,
thirty two point nine million guaranteed. I mean, that's fantastic
(01:38:23):
for Nate's solder. And you know, especially, let's be honest,
your medical bills aren't cheap. And his son has been
battling a condition, and who knows how all that is
going to play out. So one can understand why Nate
had to take this type of situation to try to
set up his family for years to come. But right
now that leaves Tom Brady without a blind side protector,
and there is no obvious answer. Nate's solder was all
of that, and when it came to free agency and
(01:38:45):
you've got other teams in the market for left tackles
as well. Let's not forget about the Houston Texans. They're
desperate for one also. And you know, when you look
at the draft, you know what I mean there, it's
it's not like there's a bunch of blue chip guys
that will probably be a draft once again where you
don't see a left tackle taken in the top and
you're gonna see a guard in Quentin Nelson taken before
you see a tackle come off the board. So I
would look at that, you know, And really though a
(01:39:07):
J mccaren, he's intriguing. Everyone thought to all, Wow, this
guy might be a starter somewhere. Well not so much.
Somehow you get the feeling he might end up in Buffalo,
you know, because they're the only team right now that
has a real question marks to who's going to be
their starting quarterback, at least at the beginning of the preseason.
But yeah, I mean listen that anything with free agency,
it all got done. It actually was all done pretty
(01:39:27):
much at the combine, but then it really got done
wrapped up on Monday. Word started leaking out Tuesday and
just who have led to a very anti climatic beginning
of free agency because we already know who's going where.
This is the Goatli Shaw on Fox Sports Radio that's
showing the stocks. I'm Dan Buyer. Alex Marvez joins the
talking NFL. This is gonna sound like a stupid question, um,
(01:39:48):
but from you, yes, I know, oddly enough, oddly enough,
why do teams? Why are teams active in free agency?
And by asking this, Alex, I see this group of
Green Bay, of Miami, of teams that are you know,
Tennessee makes a couple of signings. We don't see it
from a lot of the extremes, whether it be the
(01:40:10):
top of the top or the bottom of the bottom.
It seems like everybody in the middle. So that's that's
kind of my my view of it. So that's why
I ask our teams doing this to get that one
player to get over the top? Are they doing it
to address needs that they fail in the draft? Why
do you see this middle of the pack be active
in free agency? Well, because here's the deal. I mean
some of these guys, like if you're the Miami Dolphins,
(01:40:32):
I mean, look, you know you're talking about Mike Tannenbaum,
the guy who orchestrated the andonic and Sue debacle, right,
and some of the things that have gone down there.
And Adam Gates who brought in, you know, the ten
million dollar man, Jay Cutler, and used up money that
could have been signed jar to sign Jarvis Landry on
Jay Cutler. I mean, so who are these guys are
on a short lease? Right? You figure if they don't
win this year, there's a very good chance of Stephen
(01:40:54):
Ross may clean everyone out, So why not spend the money?
You see what I mean? It's like that. That's what
you look at here. And for NFL teams this should
be considered monopoly money. It really is. I mean, and
I understand why some family owned teams like the Cincinnati Bengals,
you know, they're counting every penny, you know, and things
like that, I mean literally counting every penny. But but
in this case, you know, with teams, it's all the
(01:41:14):
league is making money. The salary camp is going up.
These franchises that continue to rise in value, so you know, really,
to them, it's just you need players, so you spend
That's it. And that's the whole thing about it. So
you know, if you're given the green light by your
team's management to spend money. You're going to spend money
in most cases. The problem with those that have too
many holes to fill. You start to reach in free
(01:41:35):
agency and it can end up catching up with you.
But when the salary cap continues to leap the way
that it does, I mean it it's you know, you
can make up for some mistakes along the way. Let's
just put it like that. You know, but there are
some teams that have put themselves in a tough spot.
The Dallas Cowboys, for example. You know, you make a
couple of bad decisions. You know, you pay Tyrone Crawford
the money that you did with him. You give Dez
Bryant this money, you know as the number one wide receiver,
(01:41:57):
and he plays like a number two wide receiver because
he's lost so much of his speed. I mean, you
look at things like that and the way you spend
your money, and it can catch up with you. I mean,
the Oakland Raiders a bit hamstrong, right, When four of
your top seven slots on your salary cap are taken
up by offensive lineman, that doesn't leave a whole heck
of a lot for everyone else. Plus, you gotta resign
Khalil Mack and you're already paying your quarterback, Derek Carr.
(01:42:17):
I mean, these are things that you know, again, every
team is different, but this maybe gives you a little
bit of an idea about how teams go about spending.
It's what makes what the New England Patriots do just
so darn't impressive. They developed players, they turn the bottom
of the roster. They're always looking for someone that they
can get, and then once they see that they've got
a pretty good player who's in about year two or
three of their contract, they reach out with an extension.
It's below market, but it guarantee some money for players,
(01:42:39):
many of whom who haven't gotten any money in the
first place. They lock them up there there. I mean,
how much do you think that whole offensive line equals
cumulatively for the New England Patriots right about a ham
sandwich or bowl of chowda? I mean, that's that's what
it is. Alex Parts, Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider, Sporting News,
NFL Reporter with us here on Fox Sports Radio. Alex,
what the hell are the Cardinals doing? That's a great question.
(01:43:01):
You can go to Sporting news dot com and find
out and click on my story, please, because I gotta
feed my family. But you also have you know, I
think that maybe setting themselves up in position for the
number one pick in the twenty NFL Draft. I don't
get the same Bradford thing, especially when you're talking about
this offensive line, which is simply dreadful right now. I mean,
you're looking at some potential cuts here in Jared vel Deer,
also in Mikeya Patti. Both of those guys good free
(01:43:22):
agent signings when they got them, but I've seen better days,
and you know then they just signed Andre Smith from Cincinnati.
I just just shudder at the thought of this man's
sweating and potentially withering like a prune, uh, you know,
out there in the Arizona heat. So I'm just not
you know again, I just don't see it for Sam Bradford.
His mobility is really shot. And but to spend you know,
it's one thing. If you sign them about five million dollars,
four million dollars. I mean, does anyone really believe that
(01:43:45):
Sam Bradford is a twenty million dollar a year quarterback?
Who are you bidding against? If you're the Arizona Cardinals,
who is it that you're in competition with designed Sam Bradford.
It's like the Chicago Bears last year with Mike Lennon
and speaking to Mike Glennon, hey, he's apparently headed the
Arizona as well. A one year type of contract. I
mean again, more guys who can't move behind an offensive line,
the camp block. Good luck. Larry Fitzgerald enjoyed that final season.
(01:44:07):
Maybe could change his mind and retire now. Bradford's contract,
by the way, breaks down to ten million dollars per game.
He's going to play next season. That was cheap. I
know it was. They should They should have looked at
a quarterback last year. They should have been yere before
and year before. And I've talked to Michael Bidwell about
this and listen, you know he said, look, we've got
time number one. This is what he told me last
(01:44:28):
may we have time. Well, no, you don't have time,
but and you know, because Carson the clock was running out.
But then he was optimistic that they could find somebody,
you know, like, look, they got lightning in a bottle
of Kurt Warner, right, you know, scrap heap quarterback, and
you know you got him, and wow, there was still
something in the tank. Scrap heap quarterback and Carson Palmer,
remember what did he cost him? A six or seventh
round pick? I mean that was it and you had success.
(01:44:49):
Well then you see Sam Bradford and maybe they're thinking
the same thing here, But my goodness, you did know
that Sam Bradford's best season as a starting quarterback is
seven and eight? That is it? Yet it's now gonna
make a hundred thirty six million dollars. No wonder Eric
what I went firing on him on Twitter? Even some
of his peers are like disgusted by this and what's
all like just from a buzz standpoint, everybody in that division,
there's some excitement there San Francisco, the Rams young and
(01:45:12):
and people want to play there. Now improvements on defense Seattle,
you see what you know, they've officially turned it over
to Russell Wilson. There's like you look at Arizona and
it's like, what do they got? There's no buzz, there's
no they're just like sort of left out there alone
in that division. Ampair to the other three, right, and
you wonder when when Tyron Matthew gets approached about restructuring
his contract and taking a pay cut, and then he says,
m We're not gonna win. You're giving Sam Brad for
(01:45:35):
twenty million dollars and you want me to take less cash. Okay,
I'll see you guys later. Yeah, no kidding. He's Alex
Barvez right it for the Sporting News. You can read
his columns there and Sporting News dot com. Also here
I'm on sirious x M NFL radio and here I'm
here is our Fox Sports Radio insider. Thanks Alex, Thank you,
and gentlemen. I'll be back m Eastern time tonight. So
(01:45:55):
if you want more NFL goodness, please yes in or
just playing for this and let me go to street.
I talked to Alex last night, so I had to
come up with new questions today. Good thing enough enough,
thing's changed during that time, crazy stuff, good stuff, guys,
Thanks a good so much, appreciate it. Do you want
to let you know? Dan? We are brought to you
by Farmers as conditions on the field change, so can
your insurance needs? Talk with a farmer's agent today so
(01:46:17):

an agent at Farmers dot com. We are Farmers. He's
Dan Buyer. I am Jonas Knox here on Fox Sports
Radio in for Doug Gottlieb coming up next. It's been
called the best segment in the history of sports talk radio,
and it was called that by the host of that segment.
(01:46:38):
Find Out who we're talking about next time, f I
s Are. But for all the latest, it's step Carson Well.
The latest the retirement of Brown's tackle and future Hall
of Famer Joe Thomas. He's calling it a career after
eleven seasons with Cleveland. Ten time Pro bowler, of course,
had the exact the active consecutive snap streak until he
injured his left arm back in October. NFL's new league
(01:46:59):
years has officially begun. Broncos GM John Elway official announced
the team has signed case Keenum to a two year contract,
Teddy Bridgewater signing a one year contract with the Jets,
which could be worth up to fifteen million bucks, according
to NFL media. Giants agreed to a four year, sixty
two million dollar contract with former Patriots left tackle Nate Solder.
Former Eagles cornerback Patrick Robinson returning to the Saints on
(01:47:21):
a four year, twenty million dollar deal. New Orleans is
also reportedly signing former Jets linebacker Da Mario O'Davis to
a three year, twenty four million dollar contract. Patriots and
running back Rex Burke had have agreed to a new
three year contract. Former Pats running back Dion Lewis headed
to the Titans on a four year, twenty three million
dollar deal. Finally, some cuts. Dolphins released Pro Bowl defensive
(01:47:41):
tackle and Dominican Sue just three years into that six year,
one million dollar contract. Miami also released tight end at
Julius Thomas and the Honey Badger no longer with Arizona.
The Cardinals reliefs safety Tyron Matthew, who declined to restructure
his contract and take a pay cut. Guys, thank you
very much. Deb And there's a report from ESPN. Then
in Domkin, Sue is going to go to ever pay
(01:48:04):
him the most. It doesn't matter the the s tweet was,
doesn't matter, the scheme, doesn't matter, the coaches, whoever wants
to give him the most money. That's where in Dominan
Sue is going to play. Got ourselves a little bit
of a quarterback controversy. Oh where's that? You know in Minnesota?
You see the new quarterback controversy in Minnesota. No, I
(01:48:25):
didn't the According to Ian Rappaport. The Denver Broncos are
trading Trevor Simeon to Minnesota. Simeon's verse cousins. Let's get
a start at everybody. I'll tell you what, Trevor Simeon
was not as bad as people wanted to make him be.
But there were three or four throws a game that
he would throw that I would know what to do
(01:48:46):
better than he did in the situation. There, It was
there there. Listen, He's got a he's got a stronger
arm than the quarterbacks they have had in the past.
But man, sometimes those three or four decisions in the
game are gonna kill you. Okay, who do you hate more, right,
Revor Simeon or the night Stalker Richard Ramirez? Um, probably
the night Stalker. I'd put him last, and then um, yeah,
(01:49:08):
I'd probably Trevor Simeon above him. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm
Dan Buyer. We're in for Doug gottliep here on the
Doug Gottlieb Show, and that is Does it get any
better than this? I think it's the John Ramo Show.
It's the John Ramo Show, Ramo Show, this is the
(01:49:29):

several days, No kidding, some shocking moves from from around
(01:50:35):

actually been traded. Oh no, what happened? John? Well, my
daughter's soccer team traded me because they were tired of losing.

we do that. Next on the John Rama Show, it's
Spider Man, I hope from the Elastic Superhero Collection. I

Everybody give it up for Camilla Tobeo. I hate the
song All My Man because she's not hot or anything. Hey,
(01:51:25):
what kind of wisdom do you want to share with us?
We'll cover that later on in our in depth interview
with her about life, her career, and everything in between.
But coming up later on. Also in the show, it's
that time of year where I ranked the best pro
day performances in the NHL from two thousand and two. Also,
we have a John Romo Show exclusive, something you won't
hear on any other show in the country, radio, TV,
(01:51:45):
some website or blog. I'll give you my winners and
losers from NFL Free Agency. But right now, it's time
to check in with our loyal listener audience. Give them
a chance to speak their minds. Hello, Hello, you've reached
the soapbox. Get all your sports thoughts off your chests

You know Lebron and the Rockets. Ain't nobody ever talking
about that. I'm a sports talk radio I'm talking about
it else. El's going yourself, the best in the business
(01:53:19):
who covered college basketball, join you next on the John
Ramo Show. You know, it's crazy all those recordings sounded
like just like the phone in the editing. It's like,
I don't know what that's odd? Nuts right? The same songs.
(01:53:44):
Let's hear for Camilla Kabaya. I hate this song. I
hate the start of it more than anything. A song
so good we wanted to hear it twice. Play the hits, Baby,
don't forget about our in depth interview later on. Also
want to drink. I see your tweaks and your emails,
and everyone's been asking for it. I'll give you my
full recap of every single spring training game we have
(01:54:06):
seen so far this season. But right now we have
a wonderful panel of experts here to get you ready
for the n C Double A Tournament. Yes. Yeah, she's
an award winning national correspondent here at Fox Sports Radio,
and you've seen here on a number of television shows.
Let's not forget she's a former Miss Claiborne County. She's
(01:54:27):
been called the greatest college of basketball analysts to graduate
from Baylor. Her Big Twelve conference knowledge is second to none.
Deb Carson, Deb, welcome to the show. Thank you. John
Ramos a pleasure to be here. He's host here at
Fox Sports Radio who got his start in broadcasting in Wisconsin. Overall,
I don't know fifteen years ago, but his days as
a college basketball fan go back even further than that.
Nobody covers a Big Twelve quite like this guy. That's
(01:54:49):
Dan Buyer. I also covers the Big Ten, oh and
the Big Twin Twins got a book about it, Danny DeVito,
and Arnold Schwartzenegger coming up now. People refer to him
as Mr South Carolina at basketball. He has over a
decade of college basketball's expertise under his belt. He was
(01:55:11):
the only person to predict South Carolina as a Final
four team last season, so don't even try to test
his knowledge of SEC basketball. Jonas knocks Goo good. He's
the next up and coming insider for one of college
basketball's top conferences. He has connections to some of the
biggest names of the a C C coach k Roy
(01:55:32):
Williams just to name a few. Don't let his age
fool you, because when I have a question about the
a SEC, I talked to this guy, Ryan Music. Yeah,
thanks for having me on, John real pleasure. This is
a paddle that some people will will crave extensively for.
Let's start with you, Dad. I'd like to start with
asking you who's the number one seeded team out of
the Big twelve, and that would be Kansas. That's all
(01:55:56):
the time we have for tonight. A big thanks to
everyone who Twitter didn't using the hashtag the John Rommel's show.
Also thanks to Camila Cabio for being tonight's special musical guest. Sorry, Camila,
we have to get to your interview later on. And Ryan,
I'll catch you on the back side. Yeah, all right, yes,
(01:56:19):
on the Wisdom Wednesday, I learned a lot. I learned
quite a bit. Yeah, I didn't know. First of all,
I didn't know Ralph was from Texas. And then a
curse like that, that's the from l A sure sounded
like Vince. That was Greg from Texas. Yeah, oh yes,
and that was If you want to get my new book,
(01:56:41):
The Lopez Dispensers, Uh, it's on how the Lopez Brothers
had given back to the NBA. You can find it
in hard copy and soft copy. Can I just say
one thing before we keep moving on this section? Oh yeah, absolutely,
John hashtag the John Romals Show. So good? All right,
Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for Dug got Leevi here
(01:57:03):

for John Ramos, who is not even paying attention right
now because he's making gang signs through the glass at
our National Update, Anchor Deb Carson, if you would like
to reach the John Ramo show. For show content ideas,
just tweet at js Ramos zero six, but make sure
(01:57:25):
that you hashtag it the John Ramos Show. Up. Next,
we are going to find out how one of the
most controversial athletes in recent sports history might have changed
his future, and it happened earlier today. Find out who
we're talking about next on FSR. I'm Dan Buyer. That's
(01:57:47):
Jonas Knocks. John Ramos is here as well as we
are in for Doug today. As conditions on the field change,
so can your insurance needs. Talk with the Farmers agent
today so you can ausgest whether your policy is game ready.
Find an age it at Farmers dot com. Rolling on,
as we get the latest of what's happening in the
(01:58:07):
world of sports with the Carson the Press. Hey guys,
Starting with a little college football slash NFL news. Baker Mayfield,
of course, participated in the NFL Combine uh and satisfied
with that performance. He participated in his pro day today
at Oklahoma. Didn't run jump or lifts. He did go
(01:58:28):
through some passing drills for about half an hour, but
he says after today's performance he feels like he's in
a good spot to be considered the best quarterback in
the draft. Said quote, It's kind of interesting to think
before the season people had me at a third or
fourth round grade. End quote. Baker Mayfield. I think through
on the field work in pro days, talking to people
the least important of any combine. Anything that you do,
(01:58:51):
it does like Pro Day doesn't matter. But with all
of the quarterbacks that we have looked at, Baker Mayfield
I believe has had the most rave reviews of any
of the four or five quarterbacks that could go in
the first round. That's why when we're talking about just
the division, the NFC West, everybody's doing their part. Somebody's
(01:59:11):
got a storyline and some interesting going on. If I'm Arizona,
if you can draft Baker Mayfield, I don't know if
I'll watch another game outside of the NFC West next year. Seriously,
every single game, every division game is is a must watch.
Whatever the pairings are, you land Baker Mayfield there, especially
around Scottsdale. Good God. I think I think they'll have
to trade up to do it as well, with the
(01:59:32):
Bill sitting at twelve and likely to move up even more. Um,
you know where he's not gonna go, Baker may Hannah Alright,
how some QB news from the NFL. For you, Vikings
are finalizing a trade to acquire Trevor Simeon from the Broncos.
And Broncos GM John Elway announced the team is side
(01:59:52):
in quarterback Case Keenum to a two year contract. That's
pretty cool, um not. I you're Denver fan. Um Let's said,
Case Keenum is an alright quarterback. I just don't know
what their plan is. If he can't stay up right,
that's that's the issue. And they don't have any running game.
Keep Damarius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders around all you want.
I just don't know how they get it done in
(02:00:12):
the trenches on offense case schemes. A Texas guy, right, yeah, Houston, Okay,
I was geting because deb is deb is the voice
of Texas. So I just want to do to make
sure that I had it. Yes, he said a lot
of records there at Houston. Alright. Sticking with former Vikings
quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, of course, say, ain't the one year
deal with the Jets now? There are reports that say
(02:00:34):
it could be up to fifteen million bucks for Mr Bridgewater,
and by the way, he's played in only one game
since suffering that dislocated knee and the damage to that
knee before the season, I would still go with Josh
mcconne as my starter at least early on. Even't played
that bad this past year, but fifteen million dollars. He
(02:00:57):
always said it was leg amputated, Like, that's not an adjuration.
There were players he throwing up on the field because
the injury was so good. He did get out of
the field this past year. Take some snaps. Yeah, it
did happen. Well after you're yelling, sir, being released by
the Packers. Jordy Nelson not sitting around waiting for anything,
already has three visits set up. He's going to talk
(02:01:19):
to the Raiders, the Seahawks, and the Saints over the
next couple of days. How how much yes, there you go.
People think Jordy Nelson had a down year last year,
But how much of how much of that do you
guys think was just the fact that Rogers wasn't there
the whole year or that his skills are slipping? Yeah,
I think there was a lot of Brett Humley. Yeah
(02:01:39):
about Adams did emerge, but yeah, he may not be
the same player. I'd rank those Seahawks last Saints second option.
I think Raiders would be option number one. Get out
there and pressed. That was the press. This is the
Doug Gottlip Show on Fox Sports. Alreadiot. No. I was
just gonna say, you know where he should think about
going where? No, he should. I actually wondered on the
(02:02:02):
John Ramos Show when we heard the first song, what's
going to be second? Because I didn't know another song
and there wasn't. It was the same song over and
over here, so you get by the way. I got
a tweet earlier Dan Dan Barer Jonas Knox in for
Doug got Um. A listener is checking us out on
the I Heart radio app. Yeah all the Way from
(02:02:22):
Hannah
