(00:46):

We do have the press. We got a lot of stuff.
I think you'll like it. But one of my favorite
things we do all week is right now, this is
the middle of the week. It's a Wednesday. And and
by the way, I always I know when it's Wednesday out.
Wednesday's my trash day. I become that guy. I've become

(01:08):
that guy where getting through a workout. My guys ran
a hill a hill today, Beard's Creek Hill where getting
through and I only did it a couple of times,
but you're just like, Okay, just make sure I can
get through and not get hurt. I've got to that point.
I've also gotten to I sent my I know what
day the week it is based on when I take
the trash out, I become that guy as well. Garby, Yep,

(01:32):
that's that's where I am. I'm just going Garby. But
it is a Wednesday. That's the middle of the week.
It's one o'clock on the West. That's relatively middle of
the day. And with our podcast that follows the show,
it's the middle of the show. That's why we call
this part of the show the midway.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
It's not getting the mid it's time for the midway.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
All right there, Jay Stu, what's the midway time?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Now?

Speaker 3 (01:59):
You don't, I'll take it from here. I've got Sam Iowa.
Sam has never been more outside here.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Tank you, Doug I'll take it from here.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
IOA.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Sam has never been more excited about a midway topic.
He's like he was jumping through the phone to agree
with this group text message today. I want to know
from each of you what is the one storyline? Just one?
Because I want to I want to drill down on
the one. No need to be like, yeah, there's like
ten or fifteen I'm looking forward. It's just one, the

(02:31):
one that you were looking forward to the most, the
college football storyline this season that you are most looking
forward to seeing him play out. I will give Iowa
Sam the four only because he was so anxious to
talk about this.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
Sam, I mean, it's got to be the AP's preseason
number one team. It's got to be Texas. Can they
do it? I think it's the first time that Texas
has ever been number one entering the season in the AP.
I could be wrong, but I where I heard that somewhere,
And if I'm wrong, we'll take it out of the podcast.
To borrow an old joke from Jonas Knox, Like they

(03:07):
listen this, they always they have the money, they have
the boosters, they have the you.

Speaker 6 (03:10):
Know, million dollars and invested into their their roster.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
They got college football royalty in arch Manning, and you
know he is a little.

Speaker 6 (03:21):
Experienced, He's got to play a little bit last year.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
But people have wondered why did he sit so long
and why why is finally now he's the starter when
someone you know wasn't injured in front of him?

Speaker 6 (03:32):
Why is he the starter now?

Speaker 5 (03:33):
But if if all goes to plan, Texas should be
raising that College Football Playoff National Championship trophy. If the
rankings are what they are now at the end of
the season.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Could we drive down on that one? Because I think
the obviously the subcategory there, if not the main category,
is arch Manning as.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
A college football casual.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
This is how I see it. If college sports or
sports in general is the ultimate meritocracy, why are we
just seeing him starting in a college football game? And
if we're just now seeing him starting a college football game,
why is he like the consensus number one draft pick?

(04:18):
If he comes out like that? To me that that's
a lot of hype for someone who has taken so
long to actually get on a college football field as
a starter.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Anyway, Uh, can I take this one? Oh yeah, okay,
do you remember when? And again I'm not a big
Justin Fields guy. Okay, but do you remember when Justin
Fields was at Georgia?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Vaguely?

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Okay, Sam, you remember Justin Fields at Georgia?

Speaker 6 (04:48):
I don't. I don't. I only remember I don't either,
I don't.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
I don't really did he.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
Play for Georgia at all?

Speaker 1 (04:58):
He was the backup?

Speaker 6 (04:59):
Okay, all right? Like Burrow?

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Yeah, well Burrow Burrows up, Burrows a backup who was
a starter when he was at Ohio State.

Speaker 6 (05:07):
Uh it was, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
You guess anybody, ilo, I mean, I want you to
think back for a second. Okay, So what happened with
Joe Burrow was J T. Barrett was there? Oh yeah,
and you're like j T. Barrett now j T Barrett
in college Joe Burrows last year had thirty five touchdowns,

(05:32):
nine interceptions. Great college quarterback. And it's a lot like
the presidency. It's really hard to beat out an incumbent.
It just is, you know. And so what happens is
like you sit there and you're like, well, he's replacing
a guy who wasn't a good pro quarterback. Okay, but

(05:53):
that has nothing to do with whether or not they're
a good college quarterback literally zero literally zero. So again,
go back, same period of time, Go back and use
Georgia as your guide, because Georgia's quarterback at the time
is a guy who I don't think he's stuck on

(06:14):
a college roster's Jake From. Okay, Jake From also thirty touchdowns,
six interceptions, and Jake From is a you know, he's
the consummate college quarterback you know there four years could
basically be governor just not a pro. So Justin Field's
transferred and played, Joe Burrow transferred and played. In this case,

(06:37):
arch Manning didn't transfer. He sat waited his turn behind
a guy who's a really good, highly recruited college quarterback,
and now he'll get his time. But the biggest thing
is it's hard to beat out and incumbent. And there's
been plenty of these cases where the star quarterback was
waiting the Wings' like, if he's so good, why is
he sitting? It's the other guy looks better in practice.

(07:00):
The other guy does, knows the system, seeing everything, and
so you're sitting there as a coach going like, I
could play the young guy who's got more talent, but
I probably lose a game or two just because he
doesn't what he's doing, whereas this other guy, this Jake
prom guy, or this JT. Perritt guy, they do everything
I asked him to do and nothing more, nothing less,

(07:21):
And that's how it works. So anyway, I hope that
answers your question. Jase too, that's my opinion.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
That makes sense. I wanted to talk about. Coach Prime
is my most intriguing story.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
When the news surface recently that he had been dealing
with cancer, I remember in the speculation leading up to
that news that he was definitely going to take advantage
of this situation to step down to do something else.
The timing with his sons moving on to the NFL
and all that, it just made sense because all of

(07:54):
us that have grown up with a youth sports dad coach,
as soon as the sun is out of the picture,
you lose the attention of the dad. I thought Coach
Prime was kind of in that ilk. So I'm gonna
see how it goes for him this season, how the
team does. If the report's out of Colorado, or that

(08:16):
his focus on the detail is a little off, maybe
he's a little distracted, and I want to see how
things play out.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Like that.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
I what do you guys think? Do you think coach
Prime will be a fully attentive to his team this year?

Speaker 1 (08:29):
I have no idea. I'm with you. I think it's fascinating.
What do you guys think? No idea, no idea.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
I mean that you know, Shoulder, we can get all
the get into all the reasons why he slipped to
the fifth round. But I mean, as far as I know,
Dion is he's recruiting great players of Colorado and he's
got great staff members.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
So what they topped out at nine to four last year?

Speaker 1 (08:59):
They can't who's the great staff rivers that he is?

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Uh, well he's got was it Warren stuff?

Speaker 1 (09:07):
He does have Warren Stapp. Again, I don't know if
Warren step is a great step. I don't know if
he's a bad one or a good but whatever. I
just know he's a huge name.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
Patrick, but he's always been.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Pat Trivers good.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
Had Marshall Faulton assistant coach running backs.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
Yeah, so yeah, they got NFL stars. Usually I think
those guys know what they're doing.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
They do, but and again a lot of this is
I don't know, I don't know their level of grind
college coaching is a grinder's job. Coaching football is a
grinder's job.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
And here's another dimension to it. Let's say, hypothetically speaking,
that Colorado winds up having a terrific first couple of
months of the season and the Cleveland Browns do not. Now,
last year, it wasn't to this extent, but it was, oh,
would the Cowboys hired Dion Standers as their head coach? Well,

(10:02):
now you know, they hire Schotteneimer out of the blue,
and that wasn't exactly a marquee higher. But I just wonder,
knowing sports media and especially social media as I do,
if the Browns have a rough couple of months and
Colorado has a great couple of months, I just wonder.
That's all I'm saying, because I know social media and I.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Know you knows. What's interesting about that is most franchises, oh.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
We go, no way.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
But the Browns yep, and the Cowboys those are the two.
But I just don't think he's healthy enough to do
it anyways. Yeah, Okay, my most intriguing team is Alabama.
Is Alabama. I mean, it's a job that you have
to take, but you really shouldn't. Is replacing allegen, you know,

(10:54):
is replacing allegend and Nick Saban is an absolute legend, absolutely, so.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Well, I want to start there though when you say
it's a job, you absolutely have to take the line
of thinking is you don't want to be the guy
that follows the guy you want to be right, right,
but again as a coach in your opinion, from your perspective,
more as a coach than as a host.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I just like, are you really going to turn down Alabama? Right?

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Like?

Speaker 1 (11:29):
So Bill Self? And I think Bill Self, with his health,
who knows this maybe his last year and we have
two more years. It looks like Jock Vaughn is the
heir parent to get it right, played their coach in
the played in the NBA, coach in the NBA. That
that seems to fit, okay, But you know, if Kansas
comes open, you're trying to place Bill Self the most

(11:51):
successful coach over the last twenty years in college basketball,
the most successful, So do you want to replace him?
Like guy one? How many straight Big twelve titles like
fifteen or something, thirteen or something, crazy consecutive Big twelve titles? Incredible? Right,
won two National championips, multiple final fours, the whole thing.

(12:12):
So somebody calls me is like, do you want to replay?
Do you want to follow Bill self?

Speaker 2 (12:16):
No?

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Do you want to be head coach of Kansas? Yes,
well you can't do one without the other. Okay, calein
de boor right, he's at Washington. They're winning, but you
can't win consistently at Washington. That's generally the thought. Where's
it Alabama? You know, an unbelievable job and they've been
able to be unbelievably successful and that name is synonymous

(12:36):
with winning. Granted, most of it tied to Saban. What's
the thinking? I mean, I think there's some ego involved.
I also think there's the you don't get to pick
timing of getting that job. You got to take it
when you get the opportunity. It's so different than me
taking this job like it was it was it perfect
timing for my family? No, you know it wasn't. But

(12:59):
my calcul relation was how often am I get to
get an opportunity before I'm fifty years old to take
a shot of being a division I head coach and
at a place that needs to be built?

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Right?

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Actually part of the calculation. So my point is that
Kalen de boor it's year two. Most people have very
little patience. I thought he did a heck of a
job last year. It for year ones are hard. I
frankly thought they should have been in the College Wall Playoff. Obviously,
the one loss went to Oklahoma late in the year
probably undid them.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 6 (13:31):
And then they lost their bowl game. They lost their
bowl game to Mission.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
There was the first time they won under ten games,
maybe even under eleven games in a long time, a
long time. I think it, Yeah, saved it first year.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
So and like, let's also be honest, Okay, the days
of teams going undefeated are close to over with the
SEC right, Like it's just it doesn't feel like that
will be something that happens. So this, this is what
I've said this on Oklahoma radio stations. Like a good

(14:03):
year for Oklahoma with that schedule might be eight wins.
And yet for Oklahoma, there's never a good year that
has eight wins. So you have to adjust to that,
you have to adjust to not having Saban. I think
Alabama is my program that I'm most intrigued by this year.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
Well, they have probably the best offensive alignement in all
of college football. Caden Proctor protecting their what program man's
Simpson drawing a blank on his first name, Bart, Yeah,
I was thinking Bart Simpson. But yeah, so they have
They certainly had the guys, but the SEC.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
What you're Samon Grindach.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Well, I opened up with Texas, but I also actually
want to run back real quick though. I am interested
in seeing how Michigan does under Sharon Moore and Bryce
Underwood taking over. He was just named QB one a
few days ago, so they're an interesting thing. Everyone's talking
about Penn State and Ohio State. Michigan though, king in
the what I think fourteenth fourteenth Yeah, and they have

(15:03):
Bryce Underwood who came in as a highly tied of prospect,
so it should be interesting. Big ten SEC are going
to be really interesting and uh, you know yeah, Isaac,
what do you got there?

Speaker 4 (15:16):
Well, first of all, I'd like to publicly.

Speaker 6 (15:18):
Cla something UCLA actually not this song USC.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
I would at this time, first of all, like to
publicly thank Fox Sports Radios Doug Gottlieb for taking my
selection of Alabama, which was I was totally gonna go with.
But that being said, I'm going to perhaps not surprisingly
go with North Carolina because as much publicity as there

(15:44):
has kind of been on a different wavelength. It seems
like no one really knows what to expect from them
this year. Whether they're going to be all of a
sudden world beaters from the very start, or an elite
team from the very start because of you know, Belichick
and his program coming in, or whether it be something

(16:05):
like a case of on the job retirement the way
that it goes for them during the regular season. So personally,
I really don't know what we're going to get from
North Carolina in twenty twenty five. I suppose it could
be some sort of disaster, or it could be really
really really good right out of the box. I would

(16:27):
personally think it would be much closer to trending better
than worse. But I think we're gonna find out right away,
obviously on on Monday against TCU, which I think is
gonna be a great spectacle. But it just I don't
think there's a ton of height for the actual football yet.
I think it's gonna hit probably on Monday, but I

(16:49):
don't I don't know. I just I think it's a
huge unknown about which direction this this thing's gonna go
this year.

Speaker 6 (16:56):
Eight and four all right, I'll get the job done.

Speaker 1 (16:59):

(17:53):
who is an avid Padres fan, thanked us last week
for not discussing Padres. But he also, you know, that's
like his side hustle, his real job. He has moved
the sticks. Plus he has the Chargers analysis job, NFL Network,
the whole shebang. Can we start with Shador Sanders. Let's

(18:14):
go back to the weekend. How bad was the tape
when you watched it?

Speaker 7 (18:20):
Oh, it's just the same works, you know. The way
I explain it is, if you're watching a kid in college,
the things he does well and the things he does
poorly show up in the NFL. And what determines whether
they're going to be successful is whether they which one
of those do they maximize? You know, do they end
up doing more of the good stuff or more of

(18:40):
the bad stuff. And in that game, it was pretty
pronounced it was a lot more of the bad stuff,
which was him holding the ball forever, him drifting, him
not playing with a shot clock, not you know, just
not playing fast, playing really really slow. And that was Yeah,
that was what you saw when you watched it on
the TV copy, And that's what you saw you watch
the tape.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
How hard is that to fix?

Speaker 7 (19:03):
I think that's one of the things that's difficult to fix.
And to me, it was more alarming just because you
saw this in college and it was like, okay, let's
see you know, that's the number one area of focus.
Like we're gonna start anywhere. That's right there. Like if
we missed some throws, you know, if we if we
take off too early, those types of things, Okay, that's fine.

(19:26):
But like this was number one, This was number one
on the list. Got to get rid of the drifting,
gotta get rid of the hold on the ball forever,
got to get rid of the retreating. And that showed
up in a big way.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
So yeah, that was that was a concern, all right, Dylan,
Dylan Gabriel to the naked eye, look good. What about
to the to the analyst eye.

Speaker 7 (19:45):
Yeah, that's what it was.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
I mean, he he did.

Speaker 7 (19:48):
He was the opposite. Like he accentuated all of his
good stuff. So you know there's times where if you
look at him from a negative standpoint, oh maybe he
gets swallowed in the pocket. He can play small and
you know, is he gonna need some room to operate.
He's not going to be his efficient operating when everything's
real snug around him. But what he does really, really well,

(20:08):
he's a point guard. He plays fast, he can see it,
get the ball out of his hands, make quick decisions.
And so with him, he accentuated all the good stuff,
minimize the bad stuff.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
You know.

Speaker 7 (20:18):
It's like, I'm sure it's the same you would say
in any any line of work. Right, you all have
your strengths your weaknesses. It's up to you to make
sure you maximize the strengths and minimize the weaknesses. And
those two quarterbacks, that was the exact opposite.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Okay, So I mean, do you agree with what they've
done getting rid of Kenny Pickett and keeping the other two.

Speaker 7 (20:39):
I thought that's what they would do all along. I
mean I had said that before talking to anyone in Cleveland,
and then I actually got some pushback. No, no, No,
they love Kenny Pickett. They won't you know, they thought
he had a chance to win the job. I think
they'll keep four. That was kind of everything coming out
from people in the no there, but from the outside
it was, well, look, when you picked Shador, you your

(21:02):
pot committed on the two rookies. They're making the team black.
It was going to be the starter. So I just think,
can he figures just out of luck?

Speaker 1 (21:10):
You know?

Speaker 7 (21:10):
And then he got hurt on top of that, so
I didn't really see where the home was for him,
and uh, you know, it's kind of one of those
reminders that even when you're you know, you're talking to
people that are connected within, you know, close within or
around that organization. Sometimes, as an analyst, Doug, we're better
off just just trust your gut and your instincts when
you're looking at a situation from the outside.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Yeah, I think it's a It's a great way to
look at it. Should we look anything into Okay, Tom Brady,
obviously I don't know how you are. I'm surprised how
involved he's been with the Raiders stuff, are you.

Speaker 7 (21:48):
I think it's a new toy, so I guess from
that standpoint, no, you know, wanting to be around it
and be involved in it, and it's something new and
fun for him. I think after you, you know, you
lose three or four games in a row and he's
not used to the losing, then that could get old,
you know, that could get old on him real quick.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Well.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
I bring it up because they had a chance to
draft Shad door standers in the draft. They had a
chance to trade for Shad door standers. They chose not
to do on both accounts. And supposedly he's a mentor
to Shador Sanders, right, people, I mentor I'd like to
I'd like to bring to what I'm doing, So I
don't know that one. That that one's it's surprising surprising

(22:27):
to me. Have you heard anything in this on this
Micah Parsons thing. I will granted, I'm in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
People are freaking out because John Kun tweeted out MICHAEH.
Parsons and there was some jet that supposedly left Wisconsin
and went to Dallas. No one has any idea who's
on it. What are you hearing in regards to Michael Parsons,

(22:48):
Nothing other.

Speaker 7 (22:49):
Than I just saw the you know, I just saw
Brian Gudikin's comments where they asked him about that. And
normally the de facto answer from a GM when asked
about someone else's player or a potential trade or potential
move it is, you know, hey, not on our team,
not gonna We're worried about the guys that are here.

(23:09):
And then his answer was something along the line of, hey,
we're always gonna be you know, if there's good players
out there, we're always gonna be interested and you know, explore.
I mean, it was just kind of caught me off
guard a little bit. You know, it's not just the
standard stock answer. So it definitely perked my ears up
a little bit.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
But ultimately he plays for the Cowboys.

Speaker 7 (23:29):
I think that's the most logical thing. You know, that's
kind of the way that Jerry Jones has always done
business is, you know, drag it all the way out,
all the way out, all the way out, and then
at the very end, the player ends up getting just
about everything that he wanted.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Yep, yep, yep. What do you think what the Bengals
did where instead of extending, they end up just kind
of doubling the money of their best pass rusher, but
now they run the risk of losing him at the
end of the season.

Speaker 7 (23:59):
Yeah, I think it was just kind of a a
we're here, it's it's late in the game. Like, we
got a team we feel I can win. It's hard
for us to envision do what we want to do
right now without him. If we were gonna trade him
or if he was going to move on, the time
to do that would have been in the off season
where you could have got something for him that time,
you know failed, you know, a draft pick right now
don't do any good for this year's team. So it

(24:20):
sounds like, hey, let's just run this back one time. Yeah,
give you a little sugar, a little sugar, little extra money,
and then we figured it out after the year. In
terms of where we both go.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Totally agree. You and I are in complete agreement with
with what this looks like. Doug Gottlieb Show Here on
Fox Sports Radio. Daniel Jeremiah, NFL analyst co host of
The Move the Six podcast, joins us for his weekly
visit on this show. Okay, let's let's get to some teams.
We don't talk about. What's the status of Bryce Young

(24:49):
in Carolina? Right? Last year the starter played poorly, got pulled,
came back late in the year and was better. But again,
I don't know how where where is he in your
mind in terms of how solidly implanted is he there?

Speaker 7 (25:05):
I think I think they're happy with him, and I
think the sign that would be good for him is
the fact that they've moved Adam feeling and are basically
surrounding with a bunch of young kids. They are really young,
you know, with uh, with Tedoro McMillan, you've got Xavier Legett,
You've got Coker. Those are all first second year guys,

(25:26):
and normally you don't do that unless you're confident a
quarterback knows how to direct traffic and can orchestrate things,
usually with an inexperienced younger guy, let's put veteran receivers
around him so for them to ship out feeling. I
took that as a sign of confidence in Bryce, that
they thought he was able to kind of get these
young guys up and go on. So I'm excited to
see it. I thought he played well at the end
of the year last year. I'm excited to see if

(25:48):
he can if he can continue to elevate and continue
to improve.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
What are your thoughts on We talked a little bit
about Arch Banning, and I just just so aware the
people who say, well, you can't beat out you know,
a guy who's not a first round pick, Like it's
hard to be on an incumbent in college and a
college quarterback is not an NFL quarterback of prospects is
not a right. We saw with j T. Barrett and
and Joe Burrow couldn't get on the field right that

(26:13):
that's what happens with from and justin fields right, it
does happen. What's your again, He's only started two games,
played in three When you've seen arch Banning. What was
your reaction.

Speaker 7 (26:28):
No, I thought, he's he's everything that you want in
terms of the physical tools. He's got unbelievably, you know,
ideal frame's big, sturdy, strong, fast, he's got he's got
a real pure motion everything about him mechanically sound. I
just I haven't seen him play a significant amount of
snaps versus a quality opponent. You know, the stuff you
went through last year, you just didn't get an opportunity

(26:50):
to see that. You get a little snippet versus Georgia.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
But not much.

Speaker 7 (26:54):
So I'm I mean it's must see TV. I'll be
locked in, you know, nine am here on the West Coast,
that's the Breakfast Brito game. But I'm I'm excited to
see what he looks like against Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
Yeah, that's gonna be gonna be fascinating, gonna be fasting. Hey,
if Micah Parsons hasn't practiced yet, would you play him
against the Eagles?

Speaker 7 (27:20):
I probably would give him some third downs, you know,
I'd probably give him, you know, twelve to fifteen plays.
I don't think i'd want to do more than that.
Just having not done anything. I think you put yourself
in some serious risk at that point in time, but
I think it would be too tempting to have him
out there for some third downs.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
What's your Travis Kelcey engaged? Do you think this elongates
his NFL career or do you think it shortens it?

Speaker 7 (27:48):
Well, you know, we always talk in scouting, Doug that
you always you know, you have player comparisons, and you
have your history, and you always go back and look
at previous situations. I have nothing in my scouting background
that helps me with you know, with marrying a global
superstar icon and how that you know whether shortens or
along ate your career. So I got no clue what

(28:08):
all that means. I just saw that he looked like
he was in good shape, So that's a that's a
good sign because I didn't think he necessarily was in
the best of shape last year, and I thought he
lost his quickness. So you know, a lot of times
players in all sports, as you get older, the key
is you've got to drop weight, you know, and last
year he did went the opposite way. So that's the
that's at least one encouraging sign. But shoot, I'll see
him Friday in Brazil. Man, it's right here.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
So you're so. Brazil would tell me about the Chargers
how they looked. Obviously, you lose star left tackle. He
moved Joe Alt over, Joe all over. Uh, they just
got a really good defensive back.

Speaker 7 (28:43):
Your thoughts on on the Bolts, Yeah, I'm I'm excited
for him. You know, it's it's not ideal when you
lose a Pro Bowl left tackle before the season starts.
But Joe Walt has looked very comfortable over there. The
left tackle position is in great shape. He's gonna he's
gonna perform at a high level. Now you worry about
the right the right side over there with Pipkins, but

(29:04):
there's only him, and I would say there's probably eight
to ten really good right tackles in the NFL. Everybody
else has to help those guys out. And the charters
are equipped with a bunch of tight ends that they
can do that with. And they want to run football.
So I don't think everybody has, you know, seen O'maron
Hampton yet. They saw a few carries in the preseason,
not many, but I'm excited to see him get the ball,

(29:25):
you know, eighteen to twenty times. And and Jim Harbaugh,
you know, is going to be committed to the run game,
and it's gonna be it's gonna be fun. You never
everybody always thinks you know what you got and everybody's excited.
But man, until we get out there and start playing games, Doug,
we you know, we're all kind of guessing. So I
can't wait to see what this version looks like.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
I agree with you. Am I wrong that the here's
here's my most interesting team? We did this for college football.
I think the Dolphins are really interesting. I think Dolphins
are you know to last year he didn't get hurt,
right that that wasn't the year he got hurt. Yeah,
but it does feel like it does feel like the

(30:08):
shine is off the star for Mike Mike McDaniel. He
went from this cool hip man. That guy is awesome too,
Like what's really going on there? Uh? They've parted ways
with some talented guys, but guys that I think most
people think hurt their culture. They still do have Tyreek
Hill there fastest guy in the NFL who can make plays.

(30:30):
I don't know, like the Patriots look like they're up
off the mat, the Jets trying to do something. Bills
are like a Super Bowl quasi favorite, and here we
are back with the Dolphins. Feels like they're the most
interesting team in the league.

Speaker 7 (30:42):
Yeah, I mean, I saw Chris Greer, the general manager,
said the other day that they've made an effort to
get younger and faster, and they feel like they accomplished that.
They've got to keep their edge rushers healthy. They have
not been able to do that the last couple of years.
If they can do that, I think that changes the
look of their defense.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
You know.

Speaker 7 (31:00):
I think if Fitzpatrick coming back over, he had not
played well, to be honest, the last couple of years
in Pittsburgh, so you're you're banking on him hopefully regaining
his form as he's back in Miami. And then offensively,
they've got new pieces along the offensive line, and I
know they've been bullish about him. They've played well in
the preseason, but let's let's get to the regular season
and see how that holds up. I think that the

(31:22):
I think they're one of those teams is just a
lot of question marks, you know, And I do think
with the head coach it goes from being you know,
fun and quirky to being odd and uh, you know,
uncomfortable with his personality. It depends on whether you're winning
or you're losing.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
It does. Indeed, DJ, you're the best man. Safe travels well.
I don't know if we'll talk to people, will get
back or whatever, but look forward to your perspective, what
the game is like, what actually happens to the game,
and we get closer and closer to the first week
in the NFL. Thanks for our guest man.

Speaker 7 (31:56):
Thanks Buddy Man.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
This is Game Time Game SI on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
What Up, Isaac, Doug, Travis and Taylor are getting ready
to say these very words.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
For better or worse now as.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
We speak in twenty twenty five, better or worse the
quarterback room of the Cleveland Browns or the quarterback room
of the Indianapolis Colts. I caution you the calculus of
this particular item might be drastically tilted with the earth
shaking news that a short time ago the Browns signed

(33:14):
Bailey Zappi to their practice squad.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
So the brown side Brayley Zappi, yep, right, and then
whore who is the Do we know who the Colts
practice squad quarterback is?

Speaker 4 (33:30):
As of now? Their third string quarterback is Riley Leonard.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
Out of Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
No Tree Dame, which he was before that he was?
Was he wake Forest or was he somewhere else in
the Apes?

Speaker 6 (33:45):
I believe that is correct?

Speaker 1 (33:46):
Or was he Duke though he was Duke, that is correct?
Doug Yeah, job anyway.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
M.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Flacco or dan da. Honestly, I think that Brown's room
is better because Flacco za Vett. He's been there, He's
done that. He also has that subtle art of not
giving a you know what anymore. I'm gonna go flack out.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
Our next item is a DMV related question better worse
in twenty twenty five, and by the way, not Department
of Motor Vehicles.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Oh, I thought, actually thought that what you're talking about.

Speaker 4 (34:26):
Yeah, the other DMV, although I suppose I could come
up with a DMV one.

Speaker 1 (34:30):
It's okay, GOHD.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
Five better or worse the Baltimore Ravens or the Washington Commanders.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
The Ravens. The Ravens, don't get me wrong. I love
the Commanders and what Cliff was able to do with
offensive coordinator Dan Quinn's a tremendous coach. He did you
know he did this in Atlanta. But I mean the
the Ravens have been good for as long as John
Harbaugh has been their coach. Like they're they're legit, like

(35:01):
you can pencil them in for ten wins. Whereas Commanders
there's still a let's see him do it again.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
Raven's better, better or worse than twenty twenty five. Speaking
of starting quarterbacks in the NFC, Dak Prescott or Matthew
Stafford better or worse than twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
I mean, assuming he's healthy, Stafford Stafford, and if we're
honest with about Stafford is I mean he played really
well in the playoffs, and Dak Prescott has had monumental
struggles in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (35:37):
Now, earlier in the show, you were discussing Tom Brady
and being able to partake and participate in production meetings
this year twenty twenty five as a TV analyst, Better
or Worse Tom Brady or Tony Romo?

Speaker 1 (35:55):
Dam Here we go, Jam, Here we go.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
Jam.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
I think Brady. I think Brady is going to be better.
Maybe a part of me is hoping. I think because
Brady is legit invested in the sport. Granted right now
seems a little bit too much in the Raiders, but
he's legit invested in the sport. Brady wants to be
I think the one of the problems was he wants
to be great and you just kind of have to

(36:21):
let it come to you a little bit. But I
also think that he's put in more work than Romo.
Romo wants to do the every guy thing. Romo probably
a better hang, Brady a better broadcaster this year.

Speaker 6 (36:32):
I feel good.

Speaker 4 (36:34):
And our final item on this edition of Game Time,
better or worse tailgating at a college football stadium or
at an NFL stadium college, I.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
Mean even Green Bay, which is the best tailgating on Earth,
right because you have the houses, the packer houses on
the north in the broad worst great tailgating. But I mean,
have you been to the grove? I mean, been even
a stillwater or Tomorrow night in Madison right where Miami,
Ohio comes in, Like where would you rather be?

Speaker 5 (37:06):
Like, it's got to be the students, right, Like their craziness,
their thirst ooze is what really kind of brings it
up a notch, right, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
I also just think like, look, there's a better ratio
male to female, you know, because female alums come back
as well to games and they come to see their friends,
and it's just better foods, food's better, all, everything's cleaner, better,
nicer when you have women involved, Like who, let's not
kid ourselves. I mean, you know you talk about bills

(37:37):
fans and why they're crazy. I mean I think a
good portion of it is it's cold and there's no
women around.

Speaker 6 (37:41):
They're pent up.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
They all this pent up as they got to get
out from those cold snowfalling Buffalo Knights.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
And you have just heard the word.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
This is game time on the Godlief Show.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Jaster can't play that game because everything would be worse.
