Doug thinks the Warriors are still the team to beat in the NBA but they will probably make some moves in the off season. He points out that fans and athletes ask for loyalty but then crush Jerry Jones for being "too loyal". Ryan Burr from the Golf Channel joins the show to tell Doug what happened to Tiger Woods in the 2nd round of the Masters.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the best of the Dog Got Leep Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Boom one Up America, Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio, coming to you from the beautiful sunny
city of the Old Sungeles, California. Uh, if you're a
weekend plans center around Eldrick Tiger Woods winning the Masters,

(00:25):
might be free this weekend. Just want to point out, Um, yeah,
not going as I think we would have planned if
we wanted you to watch golf this weekend. Tiger is
one over for the day. A lot of people struggling
on the day, but Tiger need to put up some

(00:46):
good numbers and he has well, he has not done
it yet. He is only through four, so there's still
plenty of time. But you meanwhile, Patrick Reid three under
for the day through three, six under for the tournament.
So Tiger working the wrong way, Patrick read working the
right way. Rory McElroy steering still near the top. Um, look,

(01:10):
Jordan's speed went three is three over through thirteen, so
it's not like Tiger is the only one who's struggling.
But Tiger was just okay yesterday, which maybe leads us
to believe this is what Tiger is going to be right.
Tiger was the most dominant golfer we had ever seen,
and then Tiger was terrible, and now Tiger's back, but

(01:33):
he's also forty two years old, and so there's this
up There's this h song that I like to call
on every once in a while. That's by Toby Keith,
and it goes like this, I ain't as good as
I once was, but I'm as good once as I
ever was. You ever heard of those those those words? Right,

(01:55):
as good as that once was. Tiger is as good
as he once was, but he's good once he ever was.
They'll be times in which you're like, man, Tiger Woods,
but for the most part, like there's a reason dudes
at forty two don't win every day, and golf is
super super hard and it's really competitive. Maybe this is
who Tiger He's not, He's not the disaster he has been,

(02:19):
but the Tiger Woods taking the world by storm, lapping
the field, laughing on his way to winning a green
jacket duty one of Jackison's two thousand five. Maybe this
is actually who Tiger Woods two three, four whatever point,
oh he is actually is. Let's get you to the

(02:39):
story of last night, which was the NBA where it's
really hard to tell who's trying to win who's not
trying to win. The Warriors were probably trying to win,
although seating is set against the Pacers who really really
needed to win, and the Pacers played like they needed
to win. That kind of sense and feel of not

(03:01):
necessarily desperation, but competitiveness which was lacking with the Warriors.
The Warriors surrender a hundred and twenty six points six
points k D is just eight of twenty three from
the floor. Remember the playing with Quinn Cook as their
starting point guard, Javel McGee started as their center. They

(03:23):
still do not have their full boat of It's not
just that Steph Curries not back. That's a big part
of it. You take a two time m V peple,
you know, off the floor. Clay Thompson still getting back healthy,
played thirty minutes on the night, and they were disappointing,

(03:43):
absolutely disappointing. Any time you give up what would they
give up sixty four points in the fourth, in the
in the second half, your coach Steve Kerr is gonna
say something like this, caring in general, probably just trying iving,
gonna be boxing out once in a while, just in general,

(04:04):
it's hard to win an NBA game if if you
don't put forth an effort at all. Yeah's embarrassed. I'm embarrassed.
I mean, I know that this game doesn't mean anything
in the seating. The playoffs start next week. It's an
embarrassing effort, fetic effort, an embarrassing effort. So look, here's

(04:25):
the you want the bold, the hot take, you want
the prediction. Do I still think the Warriors are going
to care once it starts to matter. I do do.
I think they still should be and will be the
favorite to win an NBA title. I do. But one
thing you have to you better be ready to realize

(04:45):
is there's gonna be I believe some changes outside of
maybe the top four. That's the way it usually works. Hell.
In uh Fresh Prince of bel Air, they changed the
mom out. You guys, remember that this this happens in
cheers and cheers. Remember they changed the star female lead. Yeah,

(05:13):
I mean, people forget cheers. Was that that's my show? Okay?
Diane Chambers was the female lead, played by Shelley Long.
Halfway through they changed her out and it was Christie
Kirsty Alley. So that's what happens. Look back at any
other dynasty. Look at the Michael Jordan's first NBA title, right,

(05:39):
they beat the l A Lakers in five games. Jordan's Pippen,
Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, John Paxson, that was their starting five.
They brought b J. Armstrong, Stacy Kame More known for
waving his towel coming out the bench. Will Purdue Cliff Livingston,
Uh that that's that's what came off the bench. I
mean the genius to that is first. Anyone who ever

(06:02):
says that Phil Jackson isn't the greatest coach of all
time not paying attention the fact that he's been able
to have dynasties in Chicago twice over three three titles.
Jordan takes, goes away, comes back, three more titles, comes
to l A three piece in l A. He's the
only one who come with Kobe and with Shack and
then a couple of years away comes back, wins titles

(06:25):
with with the Lakers and with Kobe. His ability to
at the right time of the year, get his team
to play hard and played together is what everyone is.
The model that everyone's been trying to copy. Again, you
look at Jordan's second year, same starting lineup. B. G.
Armstrong played a little bit more the third year of

(06:48):
their three p Now it starts to get a little
bit a little bit dicey. Hey, Bill Cartwright's got a
little bit long in the tooth, al right. He's playing
fewer minutes. Scott Williams plays more of minutes. B. J.
Armstrong becomes the starting point guard the second time around.
For Jordan's they had Dennis Rodman, they had Tony Coo

(07:09):
coach the other You're not gonna change out Jordan. You
weren't gonna change out Pippen. You're always gonna have a
shooting point guard. And that's basically what you're gonna get
from the Warriors. You're always going to have Durant. You're
probably always gonna have Steph Curry. There's a chance you
move off of a Clay Thompson order to get some
some some new life. I don't think you replaced Raymond,

(07:32):
but I don't think it's crazy to think you think
about moving one of those two other pieces. And you
definitely got your bench. And they've been trying to do this,
they've been trying to use these younger players. But Pat
McCaw got hurt and Cavon Looney is a little bit
too young. But the idea is this, you have to
here's the home building analogy. Al right, So right now,

(07:55):
I still think white is generally in in read doing homes.
All right, Like you go in uh and your white kitchens.
You go into a new home, they're all farmhouse style,
ship lap, ship lap, ship lap, and you have a
white kitchen. You have some sort of light white cabinetry,

(08:17):
and you've got some sort of light granite or corean
or whatever on the countertops. You just walk in. It's like, oh,
it looks cleaner, it looks brighter. It makes you feel happier.
And remember the kitchen sells the home. But you you
if you're if you're redoing a house now, or you're
starting to think about redoing a house, you probably shouldn't

(08:38):
think about redoing it with a white kitchen because by
the time you get the project done, white kitchens have
been going now for three, four or five years. You
need to know what the next step is. We're going
into more natural woods, a darker tone. I don't think
we're ever going back to tusking. The point is that
that trends at some point hit a limit. It doesn't
mean that bright kitchens don't work. But do you paint

(09:01):
the cabinetry, do you paint the center, uh, the island?
Do you find what the next thing is? And that's
what the Take a listen to Kevin Durant and what
he said after the game. I thought we cared tonight.
They played a better basketball game. They came out with

(09:23):
better strategy. They're more aggressive than us. I think you care.
I mean, I think everybody's flat about playing ball, so
I disagree with that. But I'm stuffing there's something weird there.
Did you did you hear what he said? Okay? The
coach said we didn't care enough. We got a box
out just every now and again. The players said they

(09:46):
came out with a better strategy. He said they outplayed us,
but he also said they came out with the better strategy.
All right, that's Kevin Durant saying, hey, we cared you
you didn't do that good a job and preparing us.
We cared. They just outplayed us. There's been something weird
with Kevin Durant the entire year, trying to be this

(10:07):
tough guy, which he's not. Now he has bought into
trying to play better defense. He might be the defensive
player of the year. I still think the Warriors win
the title. I still think the Warriors have a chance
to win two or three more titles. But I'm guessing,
just guessing, guessing that they're going to change what their

(10:34):
kitchen looks like in the offseason. They may change a bathroom,
they may change some color tones. Because he can't. He
can't stay the same forever. Right. The Bulls in year
three changed out point guards John Paxston for b. J. Armstrong,
They switched places, They changed out bench players. Scott Williams
became their first player off the bench. The only way

(10:55):
to elongate dynasties is you gotta change some stuff up.
He got to continue to freshen things up. You gotta
get a guy or two who's excited to be there
more so than a guy that's constantly done the same
thing over and over again. It becomes Monday. I'm not
picking against the Warriors, because, like Kansas in the Big Twelve,
until further notice, they're my team. But I do think

(11:20):
that there's going to be a refresh button hit, maybe
not at the top, but probably in the middle, because
that's how dynasties get elongated. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Doug gott Leaps Show weekdays at three
p m. Eastern noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app. What do people say we
lack nowadays? I think some people like empathy. That's fair.

(11:46):
But there's one thing that's lacking from players from owners.
Players say this all the time. Players say, you know what,
no such thing as loyalty in the NFL. Yeah, he's guaranteed,
contract got take contris? What radio guys, let's got't take?
Contracts are worth the paper, the predatorde because the owners

(12:09):
have no loyalty towards the players, right you here, You've
heard that before, haven't you sure? And by and large
there's some truth to it. Right We're we're what is it?
Chris Rock says? The man is only as faithful as
his options are. Okay, But while we sit here and

(12:31):
decry that owners aren't loyal and fans, fantasy players aren't loyal,
coaches aren't loyal, owners aren't loyal. Nobody, nobody believes in
building players that are gonna last. I want to. I
hate going to my watch my favorite team because I
can't identify the player. Because there's so much turnover in
the n b A, Major League Baseball, the NFL. What

(12:57):
if there's one guy who is loyal and is loyal
apparently will fault and even his own coaching staff doesn't
like him for it. It's Jerry Jones, right, Jerry Jones,
the same guy that people say they don't like because
he wants his players to stand for the national anthem.
Now does he want to stand for national anthem because

(13:18):
he's a Trump guy? Or does he want to stand
for national anthem because he just wants to just heard
from his heard from his consumers, and the customer is
always right, and he's just trying to please everybody. This
from Albert Brier of the MMQB. There's no delicate way
to put this. It's a good thing that Bryant has

(13:39):
that Dez Bryant has two very powerful sponsors in the
Cowboys facility, Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett. Because where the
staff sees him right now justifying the twelve point five
million dollars he's doing the fall sixteen point five million
dollar cap hit, it's gotten difficult for the team. Maybe
they'll be able to compromise remember in two thousand fifteen
he signed a five years, seventy million dollar deal. That's

(14:02):
when he had the foot injury, the broken foot he
came back from and broke it again. Since then, he
hadn't been the same one. Stafford said, based on last year,
he does very few things really well, very few things
really well. You've watched, and I've watched. I watched every
Cowboys game. I'm a Dez Brian fan. But this accurate
is accurate. Does lacks explosion, not doesn't have the same

(14:25):
vertical and he's never been a great route runner, but
he's been able to get away with it due to
his competitiveness and his explosiveness, which is sorely lacking. Last year,
Tony Romo was in the booth and Tony Romo was like, hey,
you gotta throw it up to Dez Bryant yesterday who

(14:45):
joined us yesterday music who said the exact same thing.
You know what you gotta do is Chris Simms like, man,
you know what they gotta get back to doing throwing
the ball up to Dez Bryan hoping he makes a play.
Maybe there's a reason Dak Prescott doesn't throw it up
to des Brian anymore because Dez Bryant doesn't out jump
people anymore, doesn't outrun people anymore. He ain't open. He

(15:07):
still thinks he's that guy of a couple of years ago.
He's still being compensated. And Jerry Jones is loyal to
a fault, right, Jerry Jones is doing the thing that
we all say no one does in the NFL. He's
loyal as an owner to a player, and he shouldn't be.

(15:30):
It should be bye bye, because that's what everybody else does.
And there's there's this whole like, hey, he should be Larry.
I thought he should be Larry Fitzgerald. Larry Fitzgerald member
a couple five years ago, moved into the slot, became
a better blocker. He was always a good route runner,
became the arguably the best most efficient route runner in
the league. Hines Ward did this right. Hines Ward Man,

(15:57):
He raised a pregnant woman, came in third late in
his career with the Steelers. But he's a great blocker,
good leader, sure handed, slot out wide, didn't matter, didn't
get the ball, didn't complain des is des is. Kobe Bryant,
instead of evolving into a secondary or tertiary option instead

(16:21):
of becoming more efficient and refined and being willing to
take smarter, better shots instead of all that stuff. He's
just trying to be the same Des Bryant, and he ain't. Dude,
when you're twenty nine in the NFL coming off of
multiple foot injuries, that's like when you get in your
forties as a dude, you've gotta change, You gotta body

(16:44):
is not the same or movement's not the same. But
while it should speak well for Jerry Jones, right, Jerry
Jones should be beloved for this, um, he's not. He's clowned.

(17:06):
You know, He's clowned, absolutely clowned. Fox Sports Radio has

a huge fan of following him on Twitter because he

(17:28):
too short to not be able to look at Twitter
and laugh often. Uh. He joins us now on the
Doug Gallip Show. Also check out his appearance on the
All Ball Podcast to drop after the show, have you
have you gotten a chance? To see Colin Section or
Trey and or Trey Young. Yeah, I've seen him both,
so I actually saw them against each other, and then
I've I've seen both in individual games. And what do

(17:48):
you think? Um, I like the idea of sex in
a lot, it's just with the point guard position so saturated,
I wonder, like what is his peak right? Like how
like could he be a top ten point guard in
the league. I'm just not sure. And that shooting motion
is so weird that it really throws me off. I
like everything else he does. And then we Trey Young. Um,
you know he can shoot the ball, and I know

(18:09):
he struggled the second half of the year, but he like,
he can really shoot the ball. It's just can you
get a shot off in the n b A. I
know we had the same questions about Steff and people
want to make that comparison, and certainly there are some
validations that comparison, but he's not as athletic for as
quick as stuff, he's not as strongest stuff. And grant
he's still very young. But until he can show that,
I just I'm gonna have questions about him. Yeah, I
just I don't know if you can guard anybody. I

(18:31):
don't think he's the athlete of Steff. Granted he's younger
than Stuff was when he came out. Um, I just
my issue is, like, look what happened at Oklahoma could
very well happen in the NBA, which is you start
shooting those shots and not making him not guarding anybody.
Guys will not play for you in the NBA. They'd
be like you kidding me? Now? Could he Could he

(18:51):
go to in Orlando where you got a bunch of
young guys and they don't care. Possibly, But I just
it's it's a there's a very is a higher higher
likelihood of a massive swing and miss, massive swing and miss,
Whereas Sexton might not be great, but I think you
could be really good. And I think that's the smarter play,

(19:12):
right And I mean, and to your point on on young, like,
that's the thing is is he going to be able
to go to a place where he gets to play
his style of ball and gets to be comfortable in
that And if so, does that place do a good
job of developing talent? Because if he went to Orlando, yeah,
he gets to play the way he wants most likely
to depend on you know what the who the coaches
their long term, but they don't do a good job

(19:33):
of developing young talents. So what you know, where is
that tippy point with him? That's a weird one at
Talk Hoops is his is his Twitter handle. Check out
his work on fan rack Sports. Let'sen to his podcast
back to Back. He's Zach Carper. He joins us on
the Doug Gottlieb Show. Um, something weird with Golden State Warriors, right,
I know that you don't have Steph. I know that

(19:55):
they're not quite clicking, but I want I'm gonna play
for you back to back cuts here, Okay, I want
to play for you Steve Kerr And then I've played
for you Kevin Durant, and and and then you tell
me if you hear kind of what I hear in
regards to the two of them, because it lost last
night to the Indiana Pacers, and they gave up a

(20:16):
lot of the sixty four points in the second half.
This is Steve Kerry after the game, caring in general,
whats the mead? Probably just trying driving. I'll be boxing
out once in a while. Just in general, it's hard
to win an NBA game if if you don't put
forth an effort at all. Yeah. Man, embarrassed, I'm embarrassed.

(20:38):
I mean, I know that this game doesn't mean anything
in the seating. The playoffs start next week. It's an
embarrassing effort, pathetic every Okay, Now take a listen to
Kevin Durant. I thought we cared tonight. Care games. I
say they played a better basketball game if they came
out better strategy, being more aggressive than us. I think

(21:02):
you care. I mean, I think everybody's starting cares about
playing poll. I disagree with that, but I'm standing. Fine.
You know what that keyword was strategy. That strategy out.
That was a little shot at at the coaching staff,
which which made which maybe is a good thing. I
actually think the idea you would want them to be

(21:23):
a little at odds to kind of fire each other up.
Now there's a there's a tipping point with that as well.
But um but yeah, of course they're complacent. Three straight
final They wannant two of the years. It should have
wanted the third year. Um and and they and they're
the team they're supposed to dominate, yet they're not dominating
the way they have in the past. Kurse should be
very that we're done for not for not taking more

(21:43):
seriously and they and I don't mind Durant saying like, oh,
I don't know about the strategy we're supposed to do. Yeah,
I don't like it. There's something weird with KD, Like
Katie can't get along with the revs. Katie's now all
of a sudden along with anybody. Who does he get
along with I I don't know. I think he gets
along best honestly, um with um with Raymond Green. Yeah,

(22:05):
it's like it's like like two people who get along
with the best. It's like Draymond, that's it. That's the list.
That is an odd combination. Raymond Dreen, Bill Simmons and
Kevin Durant walk into a bar. That that is a
that is an interesting combination. Okay. So I don't think
it affects them this year. I think that a little
bit of that is Okay. I think Steph coming back.

(22:28):
I still think they're fine. But I do think that
they change a bunch of other pieces in the off season.
I went back and looked at the Bulls year three.
They changed out you know, b J. Armstrong became the
starting point guard and John Paxson came off the bench.
They changed something. Scott Williams became their sixth man off
the bench. Like you look, year three, the third year

(22:50):
of Dynasties. A lot of pieces. I even point out
Cheers changed out, changed out, Uh you know, Shelley Long
for Kirsty Alley and fresh Prince of bel Air. They
changed out the moms. People still don't forgive them for
changing out the moms. But they changed out the moms.
Like you're not going to change out your stars. Will
Smith started all of them, right, say Dad, same Will Smith,

(23:12):
Sam Carlton, But you change some other pieces. Is that
what you're like to believe would happen? Is that smart
of what might happen in Golden State? Yeah? Maybe? I mean,
And also to your point, they'll stay by the bell
into a whole another reality still is Zach Borris and
a see Slater. But they went to they brought in Tori.
It was this weird thing. Where did Kelly and Jesse does?
I mean that was a whole weird thing as well.
So you do have to switch some things out for
the warriors. The most natural thing is like, all right,

(23:34):
we'll just get a new center, right, we had focus,
and we'll bring it in new center and maybe that
brings enough life into it. Um. But I also think
it's a little weird that they haven't been able to
just go get cheap veterans who want to help them win, right,
Like they've had to settles like oh mccaffee and and
make young and sure and sure they got like they
got David West and they've been able to keep living

(23:55):
in and you know, they have a couple of guys,
but they haven't been able to just go get whatever
I wants to go win a title now. So that's
a little weird to me. Um. But yeah, like at
a certain point it will just be complacent and then
and there's so much talent that they can still win
the title with complacency, but they're so sloppy with the ball.
They're still sloppy with their defensive rotations right now. One
step gets back, that'll fix a lot of it. But yeah,

(24:17):
I agree, like there may have to be some kind
of major change that still has the core intact if
that makes sense for them to keep this, you know,
dynasty rolling. Okay, so makes sense of the Western Conference playoffs,
Like how is this thing going to end? Have you
seen that fight scene in uh in Anchorman. Yes, that's

(24:39):
pretty much what we've got going on right now. Who
is Brick with the trident? I want to say, I
don't know what he's doing. He's making all these weird
gestures and say weird things. I think I think he
might be Brick. But I love by the way. I
loved his postgame interviews, like I wanted to things the
fans and my coaches because I was I could not
make a shot tonight. That just could not could not

(25:01):
make shot. But we win game and needs grade like
I just love. I love the honesty like I was bad.
It wouldn't go in. I thought, did go in? It
wouldn't go in. I loved his interview last night. I
could not make shot. I love lamp. I stabbed Andrew Wiggins?
Trim did did? Did? Was Andrew Wiggins on the floor
during the fourth quarter last night? I think I think
he wandered onto the floor. At one point security rushed

(25:22):
the back off the Hey you're not out here for you, okay,
So so look for people who aren't who aren't paying attention,
like AH Warriors, Rockets Portland, like look the Spurs and
the Jazz have forty six wins. I don't know how
the Jazz one four in a row. They beat the
Clippers last night badly. They got forty six wins. They

(25:43):
were in at the four seed as of now. Okay,
the Spurs and Thunder both are forty five and thirty
four with the five and the sixth seed. The Pelicans
and and Timberwolves and Nuggets all have forty four wins,
and the Clippers close to being out but not completely dead.
With four the two wins, there's only eight spots. There's
nine and a half teams for those eight spots. Again,

(26:05):
Zach Harper, how does it end? I think the Clippers
are definitely out. I think they're done. Um, even though
they're within shouting this, I think I think they're done.
The Timbers are actually in a very good spot with
all the tiebreakers, but they have to win that final
game of the season against Denver. Um. Ideally they would
go three and oh. They have the Lakers to the
Lakers tonight, and they have Memphis and then they have Denver.

(26:27):
Those are three very winnable games, especially Jimmy Butler's back.
For all of them, they should be okay, but they're
also the Timberwold. I'm gonna say the Pelicans fall out,
Denver makes it, Minnesota stays in. But I don't feel
any kind of confident in that. All Right, I'm gonna
I'm gonna ask you the exact same question about the
Eastern Conference. Eastern Conference, Uh, not as convoluted. Right, Pacers
are set in the playoffs right now, they're the four,

(26:49):
possibly the five, But for who's gonna play Cleveland. Cleveland
right now is the three, but they could drop to
the four. Let's see what happens with them in Philadelphia.
But then he got Miami, Washington, Milwaukee. They're all in
the playoffs. Everybody else is all out. But how does it?
If I'm Toronto, I'm Toronto, who do I most want
to see out of the heat the Wizards in the box,

(27:11):
and who do I at least want to see? I
think you want to see the Wizards because I don't
know that the Wizards have their stuff together enough. Um,
so I think you want the Wizards fall into eight.
If you're Cleveland, man, cleven, you want to be that.
You want to be the three, regardless of who you're
gonna play, so you can get the Celtics in the
second round, right, definitely, yeah. I mean if the Celtics
make it, right, Yeah, But yeah, if you're and then

(27:34):
if you're taking on the seventh seat, I think you
feel pretty good about that. Um yeah, I guess if
you're Cleveland. It Actually they do them some some good
to to want to face Miami, because Miami doesn't have
a lot of talent, right, but they play so well,
they execute so well, they have such a consistem spose
such a good coach that I think it kind of
it forces them to galvanize into a much more cohesive team.

(27:57):
So I think they actually want to face Miami even
if they get pushed by a team they should get
pushed by. Awesome playoffs are gonna be fun. You should
follow him on Twitter at Talk Hoops, check out his

(28:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug gott
Leap Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app Let's
check in with a friend of mine. Ryan Burr from
the Golf Channel joins us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Um,
coming into the event, what were your expectations of Tiger? Wow,

(28:42):
that's kind of a loaded question because I, like everyone else, Uh,
certainly became intoxicated with the health, the speed, the mannerisms
that the Tiger has shown in the last three months,
and probably UH didn't take into account that ten months ago, Doug,

(29:06):
he was on the side of the road claiming he
was in California when he was really in Florida with
his car up on the curb. Ah. Where he's come
in ten months is one of the all time comebacks
as it stands right now, without him even winning anything,
but to get to this place with this much on

(29:29):
the line. Uh, it probably wasn't realistic to think that
his first major healthy in five six years, with a
healthy mind, healthy body, that he would be able to contend,
And probably should have taken too account everything else that
has happened in the last year. And it's remarkable where

(29:51):
he is right now, even now with the ball in
the water likely missing the cut. Uh, it's still remarkable.
He'll win this year, or Doug he will win this year. Uh,
you can put it in stone. It's going to happen major.
Probably not. Um. I still worry about all the scar
tissue in the brain in majors. But just like Phil

(30:15):
had a hot week in Mexico, Tiger will have a
have a hot week in the next couple of months.
In hill of a victory. I mean, people, forget you still,
I love you, But you still didn't tell me. Do
you think he was winning the tournament before you got there? No? No, no, no.
I had Rory winning the tournament. I had him making
the cut though I had him part of the picture.
I did not anticipate him missing the cut because only
like eighteen guys missed the cut. I understand, yeah, I understand.

(30:39):
Why did not have Did you think he did? You
think ten? Yes? And so what you know, what what
in your mind? If there's one thing that has gone
most wrong for him? Because yesterday was the driver right,
but today he's driven the ball pretty well, it's been

(30:59):
you know, it's been one thing's a mess. He's a
mess today. This is as poorly as he's played anywhere
since the comeback. And listen that it's it's the toughest
thing about sports, right, the toughest thing about sports is
I mean the best picture in baseball. Uh, the guy
that wins the cy Young has three starts during the
year where he can't get out of the third enny.

(31:21):
Doesn't mean he's not the best picture in the baseball
means in that day he can't get out of the
third enny because he doesn't have his stuff. That's kind
of like what we make our stars and judge our
stars by is when the spotlights the biggest, that that
they show up with their stuff when it patters the most.
And what Tiger has in the arsenal today, he doesn't
have anything. I mean, his irons are are as bad

(31:43):
as he hit, as bad as he's hit it the
entire year. He just doesn't have it today. And you
know why, why doesn't he have it today like he
had it, uh three weeks ago in Pampa? Why doesn't
he have it like he had it at Bay Hill
two and a half weeks ago. I Mean, I'd have
to say it's not physical, that's for sure. He's physically

(32:03):
all the way back. He's swinging as good as as
everyone in this field, as fast as everyone in this field.
He's the best putter in the field. Uh, whatever it is.
He's not sharp today, he's bad today, and and because
of it, he's gonna be going home all right. So um,
it does, though give us the chance. And though though
TV sets, uh, you know a good number of mainstream

(32:27):
TV sets in ratings up yesterday. I'm sure they're high
today as he's on ESPN ors yesterday a lot of
it was on Sports Center on ESPN. Uh. But if
he does, it's funny about that. Uh, he wasn't on
TV yesterday. I mean, Golf Channel from eight am to
three pm crushed ESPN and the ratings and uh, and

(32:49):
you said the ratings on TV were up. So you
know the Tiger Woods factor now And we've seen this
each and every week on network TV, whether it's NBC
or CBS. Golf rates are through the roof this year.
And that is even when Tiger is not playing. He
has brought people back. And you're exactly right. I mean,
trust me, things will be very different without him being

(33:11):
in the mix as opposed to whether he was in
the mix. But I'll be interesting to see if we
get a speed. Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas h Rory McElroy
kind of finished. I bet they're up from last year
with Sergio's playoff win over Justin Rose, even with Tiger
not part of the picture, no question, no question. So look,

(33:32):
we have we have a chance to have have speech,
have Rory, have some of those big name young guys
kind of be a part of something special. Um, the
interesting part is you thought Rory before the tournament, Ryan
burr Our, guests from the Golf Channel, Doug Gotli show,
Fox Sports Radio, that was the general consensus, right. Jack
said that he's hitting the ball better than than anybody

(33:53):
on tour. He's he hits the ball better than everyone else.
His his best is better than everybody else. Very week
he just can't put so Rory wins majors putting average.
He's done it a bunch of times. Uh, he had it.
It's kind of like a you know, the correlation of
of heat Win and Brad Factson, who most of your

(34:15):
listeners probably don't know who is, but he's like the
greatest putter of all time. They couldn't hit it straight,
but he was a great putter. On the PGA Tour,
he met with Rory and and said, you know, you're
so technical, you're an athlete. Just go out there being
an athlete. Don't overread it, don't be down on your
knees and trying to look at all the lines and
try to find the curve. Just being an athlete. Go

(34:35):
up there and be athletic. And two weeks ago with
the Arnald Palmer invitation, Rory was athletic and he just
dominated the field. He always hits it as good or
better than anyone else. The question is is he gonna
be able to make five footers when when the money
is on the line, And he showed us a couple
of weeks ago that he was and so far this week.
That's why it was my pick, and I'll stand by it,

(34:57):
especially with him a few out of Lade. I mean
Patrick read as a nice lead. Now I don't anticipate
that holding up. He's never played well in a major.
He doesn't have any top tens in a major. But
this will get the read. But but but speech is
there and when he comes out and look, you drive
for show, putt for dough. Speech with a putter versus

(35:17):
Rory with a putter, I mean, that's that's that's a
that's a mismatch, right, So I I agree with and
not anymore. Truthfully, Rory is a better putter than Jordan,
believe it or not. But uh, I get your point.
But on Sunday at Augusta, who do you believe would
be a better putter, Spee or Rory? Stats be damned, yeah,

(35:41):
I think Rory would be this particular sound I think, yeah, yeah,
Jordan's a mess right now. But uh, speech is it's
it's actually everything everything is turned around this year. Speech
is actually hitting the ball better than he's ever hit
it by a mile. He just can't make a putt. Uh,
he finished, He's a hundred. Not to go all inside
baseball on you, but there's two hundred players that get

(36:03):
ranked on the p G A Tour. Jordan's speeds is
one eight five in putty? How is that possible? But
but but that thinking, how is that possible? We've had people,
we've had analysts on the air say he has the
putty nips, that that he I mean, he's a hundred
eighty five out of two hundred. It's been bad this

(36:24):
year and that's why I didn't I didn't pick Jordan
to win. Uh, he's looked good. So far. I mean,
he's got up to a horrible start today, but he's
right where he needs to be. Ricky Fowler's rate where
he needs I want I want to ask you about
I want to ask you about about about Ricky and
then about Dustin in a second. Um, Look, Ricky is
the best player, the best young player to not have
one a big one. I know he won the players

(36:46):
a couple of years ago, but he hasn't won one
one a major. Um. He hadn't been great either day. Right,
he's two under, he was even today, he was two
under yesterday. I actually look at that as a good thing. Right,
that he's not right? And do you do you sense
that he's ready for Sunday Augusta? I don't. Uh. Ricky
Fowler is a guy that when he wins, every single

(37:10):
time he wins, he comes from three or four back
on Sunday to do it. He gets in the zone
and gets hot. The five, six, seven times he's had
the lead on Sunday, he's shot eighty and self destructed.
So he could get hot and come from behind to
win on Sunday. But if if he's anywhere near the top,
I don't trust him. Um. In the big spot. I

(37:34):
do trust Dustin Johnson. I do trust John Rom, I
do trust Justin Thomas. I trust speak to a certain
amountl though the whole putting thing is a concern, and
I trust Rory the most. Um. You mentioned that you
don't think he'll win a major. Is it because of
these particular majors? Is because you know the opens played
in the Lynxy style of course, and he's gonna what

(37:54):
are you talking about talking about Tiger? Sorry, getting back
getting back to Tigger. You mentioned no major. Is it
be because of the courses or because the course is
set up great for him? I just think there's too
many he's going to have to win first. Uh. Like
it's all mental with him right now. I mean really,
when you look physically at where he is, it's a

(38:16):
miracle with the six back surgeries, but he his swing
speed and everything else is I mean, there's he does
not look like a forty two year old. I mean
he even looks younger in person. I mean he just
he is h He's all the way back. It's just
that the mental side of it. Um. And I think
the rehab that he went to following U the d

(38:38):
U I has really changed his life because to a man,
any person you talked to, he is different towards the media,
he is different towards the people on tour, he is
different towards everyone. He smiles. It's almost like he's forgiven
himself for all these transgressions and is happy to be
alive and happy to try to get another shot at
this thing. But in a may jury, Boy, it's it's

(39:02):
the pressure to major. It is. It is so suffocated.
You can't for people that you can't even imagine compared
to other sports, how suffocating the pressure is in golf
when you're by yourself and the game is so tough
to begin with. It's just it's so suffocating. And the
whole Tiger trying to track jown Jack. I just I

(39:22):
think he's gonna have to get over a few other
hurdles before a major is in the cards for Woods,
all right, you know you're gonna have to You're gonna
have to go watch the shot that Bubba just hit.
I think on eleven. It was unbelievable from the pine straw.
Another guy completely in the mix around, you know, and
he's he's obviously one there twice um he has not

(39:43):
yet fired as caddy and h but but there's still
two and a half more round. But he just but
he just hit an unbelievable shot on eleven. Enjoy Augusta.
Let's catch up again soon. Thanks for joining us, Ryan, alright.
