Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to sports radio and John Ramos this year
as well. Boom on a Thursday, The John Ramos Show
at John Ramo Show is building on Twitter the fan
bases there. Jonas said, I don't know if you know
this or not, but just recently there's been a change
to the John Ramo Show Twitter handle. I did not know. Yes, yes,

(00:24):
it's not the actual handle. It's in the bio now
he has Ryan Music's name spelled correctly. Okay, it's with
the K at Music reports music with a c K.
Before John just left the K out, it was just
Ryan like music, but now you needed to add the K.
That's up to date. John Ramo Show is coming up.

(00:46):
Never to fear that and a whole lot more. As
we are sitting in for Dugton now for the new audience,
John Ramos does a show in our three a show
within the show. It's quickly become the highest rated segment
in the history of sports talk radio. Now, we don't
have any evidence to prove that, but we don't have
any evidence to not prove that, So we're gonna go
with that. And it's just build momentum and everybody wants

(01:09):
in on it and So John decided, finally yesterday, after
what two years of doing it, that he was going
to create a Twitter account. A lot of confusion. Can
I read to you his bio and you tell me
which part is my favorite? All right? I'm gonna read
you his complete bio John Ramo Show on Twitter, and
you tell me which is which is my favorite part? Right?
And you didn even tell me yours? Right? Here we

(01:30):
go at John Ramo Show, the Show within the b
Key b k R Show on Fox Sports Radio, Best
five minutes of a sports variety variety show on the
air with my sidekick music reports, Ryan Music plus my
wife Suzanne. What is your favorite part of that bio? Um?

(01:52):
The lack of punctuation? Okay, that was mine too. There's
not even a thought at a period, not a thought
of a comma that's gonna happen. We are running on
sentences here, Ramos, periods and commas. F you, says John Ramos.
But but it should be noted he abbreviated with the

(02:13):
WA that was shortened at John Ramo Show Titanic one
hundred and fifteen followers. And the great thing is is
John is spreading the wealth as well with at Music
reports Ryan's Twitter handle in that so it's a great
job forms and he is following none of us back

(02:36):
is correct, he follows, he follows no one right now.
He is a follower of no one. He blazes his
own path and not not uncommon, although that's not an
uncommon move here at Fox Sports Radio, and not follow
your co workers back. Oh, started from the bottom here,

(02:57):
all right, the Utah Jazz. I thought maybe they were
at bottom of the series against the Houston Rockets, and
maybe it's my fault. Jonas. I brought this up yesterday
and I said, realistically, looking at these four conference semifinal series,
which one is truly still up in the air, And
I felt it was really only the seventies sixers in Celtics.
Now the next closest one, I would say, Rockets Jazz.

(03:21):
There was only one game in, but the Rockets had
defended their home court, and I just felt that if
they they got game two, even though it's very difficult
to play in Salt Lake and it is a great
home court for the Jazz, that if the Rockets could
get up too. Oh, they are a very good team
at home, as most good teams are. I just felt
it was gonna be the Rockets series, and that we
were looking ahead to the Conference finals between Golden State

(03:44):
and Houston. But a funny thing happened along the way.
The Utah Jazz took it to the Houston Rockets last
night and winning game to one, sixteen to one oh
eight in a game jonas that Utah led by nineteen
only that I have Houston come all the way back
in Hyatt and I didn't get the sense that it
was a Houston team that was out of gas because

(04:04):
of the comeback that they had. I just got the
sense that Utah was just a better team last night
in so many different ways. And not to make it general,
but the fact is Utah had guys step up that
you didn't necessarily expect to and the Rockets just didn't
step up last night. Well, you don't get the impression
that if it gets down to a grind it out,

(04:26):
tough type of game or tough, stipe type of style
of play, that Utah is gonna have the advantage to
where Houston is so dependent on We've got to hit shots,
We've got to hit threes. It's it's what has to
happen for us to win a game. Utah goes out
there and they'll grind you. I mean, Donovan Mitchell didn't
play that great. I mean didn't have that good of
a game, but Joe Ingles, wherever the hell that guy

(04:47):
came from, had seven threes and Donovan Mitchell had to
put back dunk to where he just wanted it more
than anybody else at that time. And it was just
one of those games to where I I no matter
what Houston was going to do, I just trusted that
that game was gonna get dirty late. Houston wasn't seeing
shots fall, and Utah was gonna win that game. Houston

(05:08):
at a tough time knocking down shot something that Joe
Ingles didn't. Quinn Snyder, the Utah Jazz coach, on the
great performance by his guard last night. I was getting
Joe hard time. You know, he started last year probably
as our fifth wing. He wasn't that for long. But
I've mentioned it before. I think every time that Joe's
needed to step up his game, he's been able to

(05:28):
do that. I'm not surprised, but it's certainly very timely
performance given the situation, and this is a well rounded
Utah team that is playing without Ricky Rubio and to
see what Utah has Jonas I look at it and
this is this has been my argument with the Philadelphia
seventy sixers before, because it wasn't just Joe Ingles last night.

(05:48):
It was Alec Burke's coming in and having a great
first half. It was Dante Exam at the end of
the game making some big place for Utah to really
hold off the Houston Rockets. You can have a great
player and Donovan Mitchell on your team. Many NBA teams,
oddly enough, have really good or great players, but it's
the pieces around them that will limit how good they

(06:13):
can get. And I look at the seventies sixers. For
as much as people want to go crazy about Joel
Embiide and Ben Simmons and what he's been doing this season,
it also helps to have a J. J. Reddick, Robert Covington,
Marco Bellonelli, a T. J. Mcconnald to have those guys
play alongside with you that can play at a high level.

(06:33):
Utah got that last night. Is Donovan Mitchell want just
six one from the floor. Also that the Rockets didn't
hit shots, but Utah on the way that they filled
out their team and how that that team is constructed
got production in places that we've wondered if the Cavaliers
would ever get production from anybody outside of Lebron. Utah
is doing it with their pieces and Utah sort of
as and this has been an issue that Boston has

(06:55):
had up until the last couple of years to where
they've actually landed a couple of free agents. Unless you
do well in the draft or unless you do well
in trades, it's tough for Utah to bring in top
tier talent to Salt Lake be a free agency. Guys
would just rather go somewhere else. And that's not a
knock in the city. Beautiful place, a good organization with

(07:16):
good history, despite what Russell Westbrook says, good fans, all
the all of that that goes with it. But this
just goes to show that as an organization, they've identified
guys that are going to play for Quinn Snyder. By
the way, Quickside note, Quinn Stenter, Are we sure he's
not Patrick Bateman from American Psycho? Are we are? We are?
We absolutely sure? Because I I Am not quite sure

(07:37):
whether or not Quinn Snyder is not Patrick Bateman from
American Side. That is the Christian Bale character. Yeah, they
kind of do have the same kind of a look.
Probably should have gone over that before the show, before
I realized nobody else has seen that movie knew it.
Yeah that's well, I mean, look it's that's John um.
But in all seriousness, you look at Utah and they've
just done a better job than most teams in the

(07:59):
league identifying play as they want. They wanted Jay Crowder
for a couple of years now, like they they identified
as a guy that could play in that system and
could play well. And I'm telling you you get into
these games to where that's that. I think that's the
biggest difference between Golden State in Houston. When Golden State
shot isn't falling, they have got other pitches to their arsenal.

(08:20):
You know, they're not just reliant on a fastball. They've
got something else that they can go to if they're
not feeling it that day. With Houston, what what else
do you got? I mean there was a point there
to where um, p J. Tucker was trying to to
to rough up Donovan Mitchell and in a loose ball
tie up, and it was like they needed p J.
Tucker to spark them to get them going somehow, because

(08:43):
it's almost like they know how to play one style.
They don't have another option. There is no there is
no off speed pitch to go along with their fastball,
and it's not working. It helps, I mean, obviously with
Golden State in the caliber of players that Kevin Durant,
Steph Curry and Clay Thompson are, that how to have
those top top tier players at your disposal. But the

(09:05):
point that I agree with and that you're making is
if if James Harden isn't having a great night like
last night where he was off, there is there is
no one there to maybe pick up any slack. Eric
Gordon's not gonna say, you know what, I got this
even though he had fifteen off the bench last night.
It's not going to be hey, I'm gonna take this over,

(09:27):
or Trevor Riesa is gonna say hold on. What makes
Houston deadly is when Harden is on and then other
teams try to stop him, and then everybody else gets
there is at a much easier at a much easier pace.
So when they're rolling, they are rolling and they are
very very difficult to beat. But when you stop James hard,
which is extremely difficult to do with the soon to

(09:49):
be m v P. Or if he has an off
night like he did last night, those other pieces aren't
there necessarily to pick up the slack like you would
have at Golden States? Is Joe Engle? Is he your
favorite left handed basketball player of allton? You know you're
a Kenny Anderson guy. You really like Kenny Anderson? What
about Calbert Cheney? No, couldn't stand Calbert Cheney because he
was from Indiana. Okay, but Joe Angeles has got to

(10:11):
be in the top three left handed basketball players of
all Yeah? Sure, why not? Absolutely would be up there. Okay, yeah? Yeah.
Do you like how I'm pretending like I know who
that is? That's the John John Mouth someone who did
you say? Chris mull? Yeah? How could we forget Chrisma?
John John? Did you not? Is a first down away

(10:32):
from me, ten yards away from me, and he mouthed
something to me like I was to understanding what read
those lips to the guy at the bus stop over there?
What is what is he saying? Right now? I'm just curious,
I'm John. Can you let me know? Oh, he said
it'll be here in three minutes. That's uh so, Yeah,

(10:53):
But now are you calling this series? Is it over? Dan?
Is it now? Is all momentum? I think Houston will
win a game in Salt Lake, So I think I
still think that the Rockets will win this series. Now,
will Utah make the biggest mistake of their life and
go to those creamsicle bar jerseys whatever? Those things that

(11:14):
with like the Southern Utah like horizon with a jersey. Guy,
I like those and I like this. I like the
different looks that they've provided, whether it be the gold,
whether it be the the sun and the red rocks jersey,
or whether it just be the simple white with purple.
I love what Utah has done. I don't like. I
love what Utah has done in this playoffs. I have

(11:36):
one jersey requirement when it comes to Utah. Does the
name oster tag look good next to it? If it doesn't,
you got to toss those Those need to get the
heav ho. You gotta go back to the arange. Remember
this is the team that had a mountain range on
their uniforms at one time during the Heyday. The the
NBA final seasons with Stockton them alone arguably one of

(11:57):
the worst jerseys A lot a lot jazz playing in
the mountains. You know, it makes a lot of sense.
Oh it was. Those were atrocious. I don't know how
certain logos end up getting past what they do. Yeah, John,
I remember the alex English uniforms with like the city
skyline of Denver. They're like, you know, like pixels right, yes, yes,

(12:19):
ye were those were great. This was an actual like
drawing of the Wasatch mountains the jersey. Yeah. It was
like it was like whose kid it can draw the
best mountain range with their offhand and it's like, yeah,
you win. Alright. So Dan Buyer Jonas knocks him for
Doug oot Leep here on Fox Sports Radio. You can
get Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. By

(12:39):
the way, tweet Dan all throughout the show. He will
tell you whether or not your favorite team's jersey sucks
at Dan Buyer on Fox. That's where you can find him.
Coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio. There is
so some games coming up could determine the entire league
next year. We'll tell you who that is next on
Fox Sports Radio. I'm Dan, Why are that's? Jonas knocks

(13:01):
John Ramos is here as well as we are, sitting
in for Doug getting ready for a double dose of
playoff action tonight in the NBA in Jonas you gotta
you gotta be careful about this one six o'clock Eastern
times start with the Calves and Raptors. So for us,
I'm on the West coast, that's like afternoon hoops starting
at three o'clock. Then after that Sixers in Boston playing

(13:23):
in bean Town at eight thirty Eastern. It's like the
first year they did the college football playoff when that
start out here like one in the afternoon. And by
the way, the College Football Playoff this year Saturday, December
twenty nights. Mark your calendars, as the schedule was released recently.
Looking back at what happened last night in Houston and
what else is happening around the NBA, specifically in the playoffs.
He covers the NBA for USA Today. Sam Ammick joins

(13:45):
us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Hey, Sam, are
you doing guys? Doing great? Thank you for having me,
appreciate it, so glad to have you on. And let's
take a look back at last night and how Utah
ended up getting this win in Houston. If you're a
Rockets fan, what concerns you about last night's lost the most.
I think two things come to mind. For one, when

(14:05):
it comes to the Superstar front, I think the somewhat
inconsistent play of James Harden and Chris Paul. James numbers
across the board in totality in the playoffs are really
really good. Chris is not nearly as much. But there's
an inconsistency with both guys that I think is concerning.
And the qualifier on James would be a guy like

(14:27):
that obviously is going to get held to a higher standard.
He had big time numbers last night. But when he
shoots two of ten from beyond the arc on a
night when the Rockets end up with only ten threes,
the average fifteam led the NBA during the regular season, Uh,
you know, that would worry me. The other thing is,
you know, this is the time of year when the
cream and the crop comes to the surface when it

(14:49):
comes to coaching, and so Mike Antoni has done a
fantastic job last couple of years. But you know, Quinn Snyder,
you gotta tip your hat to him. He made adjustment
in game too. Uh. And I think one that is
then overlooked a little bit is that a lot of
focus on Donovan Mitchell's shooting struggles for the first three quarters,
but they obviously made a real concerted effort to turn
him into a point guard and a playmaker. Had five

(15:11):
assist at the first quarter. I think that through the
rockets off a little bit, they thought the offense was
gonna go through Joe Ingles, and sure enough they get
out to that really good start, and that kind of
game my foundation going forward. Uh, Sam mc NBA inside
of USA today with us here on Fox Sports Radio. Sam, Now,
this is looking way too far ahead, but that's what
we do here. We're just reacting to what happened last night.
Say Houston comes up short and say they lose this

(15:33):
series to Utah again, just a big hypothetical whose reputation
takes a bigger hit Mike D'Antoni, James Harden or Chris Paul. Yes,
you know, I really don't know which one to pick,
to be honest, I mean, Mike's Mike's I think has
probably Mike is at the bottom of the list in
terms of he would be the safest. I think that

(15:55):
that the illis would follow mostly on the players. He
would certainly take criticism, but you know, he's already impacted
a game in a pretty indelible kind of way when
it comes to his entire story in his career. With
James and Chris, you have this thing where, you know,
Chris obviously never been at the conference finals. I mean,
that would be disastrous for him to not get there

(16:16):
again with this roster, and then with James, you then
would have the immediate connection in the public between his
playoff performan's last year connected to that kind of a
you know, a faltering this time around, I think James
and Chris would probably be one in one a Sammy
make tuy to case here on the Duck Gottlip Show
on Fox Sports Radio. We were talking about this a

(16:37):
little bit earlier. I don't mean to put you on
the spot to try to narrow it down immediately, but
we were trying to think of who is the best
supporting casts around their superstars, because last night it seemed
like Utah really had their non star and non star
step up, whether it be Exam Late or Alec Burks

(16:57):
or Jake Crowder. What supporting cast these teams remaining of
these eight outside of the superstars do you like best
in these NBA playoffs. I mean, this is the easy answer.
And sorry, guys, I hope that a report not to
loud in the background. Uh. You know, the Warriors supporting
cast and tremendous, and we just saw with Steph Curry

(17:17):
out how incredible it is, you know what I mean,
they were able to keep rolling. They have the best
defense in the NBA. In the playoffs so far, I
believe they have the best net rating in terms of
point differential and STEP's only been back for one game,
so you know, maybe they shouldn't be in the debate
because it's not a supporting cast so much as it
is an all star cast. But even when you get

(17:40):
past Clay and Draymond and Kevin Durant, you know, right
now you have guys like Andrea Goddala and Sean Livingston
and youngsters like Kevon Looney doing things that are very
important for what they do. And you know, Andre and
Sean are known commodities. But I think under the radar
nationally is the storyline that they were not that good

(18:00):
during the regular season. They were paying a lot of
money last summer. I think there was a lot of scrutiny. Uh,
you know, intern even internally debate about that we make
the right move and in paying these guys, and now
we're figuring out that they were laying in the weeds
a little bit and they're playing their best basketball. So
I probably have to do with the Warriors, Sam. Is
there a result and just switching over to the Calves series,
Is there a result that would need to be or

(18:23):
is there something that would need to be done by
the Calves this postseason to convince Lebron to stay. Yeah,
I think for sure. I think honestly, I think you've
got to get back to the finals. Um, you know,
and I'm leaning towards feeling as if, you know, he's
likely headed elsewhere if he doesn't get back to the finals.
I just think it's a situation where he's got good

(18:45):
options elsewhere. He's got a you know, a supporting cast
right now. That it looked terrible in the first round
up until the last game, and you know, I still
just I think TYLERU and that Tristan Thompson move was
so far probably the best one of the postseasons by
any coach. And you know, but but if they fall short,
and if you're looking around, I don't think that Jordan's

(19:06):
Clarkson and Larry Nan Jr. And Roddy Hood are the
types of young players that are gonna get I mean,
it's nothing against him. I don't think that's gonna pull
him back. Um, And I think that, you know, they've
got to get to the finals. That's how I see it,
because the East, all of a sudden, is so tough
that if he doesn't get back to the finals, that
he's going to know that not only is it a

(19:26):
tough road to ho this year with this cast and
that side of the NBA in that conference, but then
going forward you're gonna have to contend with the Boston's
and the Phillies and the Torontos and things like that.
So I think they gotta keep surviving. Here, Sammy make
of the USA today joining us here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer in for Doug Gottlieb.
So let's focus then on tonight's game. Calves Interraptors in Toronto.

(19:50):
Toronto bounce back after what happened in Game one where
they had opportunities to close it out, opportunities to make
shots and they didn't go down. How much is this
team one gonna be in Toronto's head. We'll see. I mean,
you know, I think I'm probably handicapping the Calves, you know,
certainly for the series. But you know, there's gonna be

(20:11):
pride on the Raptors side. You're still at home, you know,
the narratives and on the one hand, yes, they're in
your head. On the other hand, I mean, if you
don't have thick skin by now when it comes to people,
especially blocking you for not being able to get over
on a certain opponent, then you're never gonna have thick skin.
I think they have enough thick skin to pull off
a game too. Uh. You know again, I don't think

(20:31):
they can pull off the series at this point, but yeah,
I can see him taking this game. For one. You know,
I still think so highly of their roster, and in
that second unit that is, you know, one of the
best in the NBA, if not the best. And you
look back at Game one and moment, you know, little
moments when the Calves got the ball out of the
market Rose and his hands a couple of times late,

(20:52):
which in years past that would have been the death knew. Well,
now they've got guys like Fred van Leet, you know,
on the perimeter and he didn't knock on that one shot,
and that's something I'm sure that kept him up that night.
But he's still the same guy, and so tonight maybe
those let's go down and maybe that death pays off.
You know, there's part of me that would be handing

(21:12):
Cap in the raptors to win this particular one, just
because you know, just getting swept on your home floor
to start the series will be pretty inconceivable. Sam, last
one for me before we let you go. Here. On
the Boston Celtic front, there's a lot of talk about
the job Brad Stevens is then he's done a hell
of a job, the play off, Terry Rogier, Al Horford
and those guys, But I haven't heard a lot of
people discuss what the last couple of years have meant

(21:36):
to Danny Inge's reputation around the league. From people you
talk to, what what do you make of the job
he has done via the draft, free agency and in
trades over the last couple of years. Yeah, I mean
it's incredible. You know Danny and you know on his
right hand man, Mike Zarins, their assistant GM. You know,
they've been there a long time. With lifelong Celtics fan
whose father is still sits up in the second deck

(21:58):
watching these games. So I mean, they just from Danny's
history as a player, uh, you know, to Mike and
the fact that he was born and bred in Boston. Uh,
they've had incredible work and you can maybe argue the
best work in the NBA the last couple of years.
I mean it seems like yesterday that Doc Rivers was
essentially deciding that this rebuilding thing is not for me,

(22:19):
and he was hitting for the exits. And I think
it's fair to say now that Doc would probably even admit,
you know, I was selling my guys short in terms
of how long it would take them to turn things around. Uh.
And so they you know, I remember when they hired
Brad Stephens in such an outside the box. Hired not
because Brad wasn't widely considered a really good coach at
bother but they not only hired the guy in the

(22:40):
dark and night because they remember, they broke their own news.
They tweeted it out, nobody broke it. Uh. And they
not only hired Brad, but they gave him this four
year contract five years whatever it was like, really long
term deal. So they the sixth board. Yeah, yeah, that's right.
And I still can't wrap my head around just how
long it was. You don't see six year deal. So
but stability was important to them. And then from there,

(23:04):
I mean, I can't get over how they continue to
hit in the draft. Uh. You know, now we're looking
at Terry Rozier and Jaylen Brown and Jameson Tatum and
all these guys that are just doing incredible works, plus
their free agency decisions that have spent fantastic you know,
to get out Horford who was just showing the whole
world yet again what he can do right now. Pretty

(23:24):
incredible couple of years from Boston. Sam Ammi covering the
NBA for the USA Today. Find them on Twitter at
Sam Underscore Amck. We appreciated, Tam. We know you're busy
going here, there and everywhere, so we appreciate the time
and enjoy the doubleheader tonight. Thanksfull I's appreciate it. Dan Buyer,
Jonas Knox and for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio.

(23:44):
You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox.
You can get me at the Jonas and I've got
a quick story when Brad Stevens was hired. I believe
it was on a Friday. Yes, sound about right, because
we have a change off with anchors where when I'm
at the anchor desk in the same studio, so you
allow time for the other anchor to move in. But

(24:04):
it was Friday, Let's be honest. I'm like, all right,
I want to get out of you know, let's start
the weekend. And Looney was probably late, no, and so
I may have exited the chair a few minutes early,
then went upstairs to wrap up some stuff because guess what,
let's start the weekend, and all of a sudden, Celtics
named Brad Stevens, head coach, just out as he said,

(24:26):
I didn't know where oh jeez, ran back downstairs. Rap yeah,
and had working on on a weekend thanks a lot
Celtics listen. Uh and then uh and it was a Friday,
so burnt tips no burn tips at night probably ends. Yeah,
it sounds better than bird tips and burn tips. His
hair burnt ends at me? Category I had to wait,

(24:48):
you know. Unfortunately they were then out because they already
ran out because I had to sticker on and cover
the Brad Stevens. Yeah, Danny and screwed you, all right,
Dan Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb here Fox
Sports Radio up next. There was a big story out
of the NFL. But how big is it really? We'll
talk about that next year on Fox Sports Radio for
all the latest, though, it's step Carson. Well, guys. Jason

(25:10):
Witten entered the building at Frisco, the training facility for
the Cowboys, about twenty five minutes ago, and in a
receiving line longer than most society weddings, Witten greeted hundreds
seemingly of people there. He's just now begun his retirement
speech as he'll announce he's retiring from the Cowboys after
fifteen years in the NFL. He'll join Monday Night Football

(25:30):
as an analyst. He's the franchises all time leader in
receptions and receiving yards, also the second all time for
a tight end in NFL history and receptions and yards,
behind only Tony Gonzalez. And your fun fact of the day,
Terrell Suggs and Terence Newman will now be the only
remaining players from that two thousand three draft remaining in
the NFL. Former Cardinals head coach Bruce arians will become

(25:52):
an analyst on CBS as a number three broadcast team.
College Football News Georgia has extended the contract of head
coach Kirby's Smart through two. Miami extended the contract of
Mark Rick through three, and engulfed Tiger Woods, currently one
under par through nine holes of the Wells Fargo Championship.
He's among those three behind the leaders. Rory McElroy is

(26:13):
one back at three underpar. Thigs a lot, deb you
bet this is the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. I didn't. Deb is a Cowboys fan, and
she is not gonna want to hear what we are
about to say about Jason Witten. This a little too much,
by the Way's Jodas knocks out Dan Buyer. We're in
for Doug Gottlieb. Is this retired? ESPN is having a

(26:34):
sports center special for Jason Witten's retirement. I'm I'm just wondering,
are we going overboard a little bit with Jason Witten's retirement? Yeah,
a little bit? Is this is this fair? Or is
this overboard? Well, here's the deal. ESPN obviously has a
dual purpose. They're celebrating a Witten's former career and they're

(26:55):
trying to launch his next career. Um, as a Cowboys fan,
I mean, to me, he's one of the all time grades.
He's definitely a Hall of famer. I'm hearing first ballot.
I don't know about that, but he's a Hall of Famer.
But um, I think because he has been a media darling,
he and Tony Romo, you know, the duo forever who
never could win the Big One or even get to

(27:15):
the conference championship for that matter. Um, we may be
going a little overboard. As a Cowboys fan, I don't
mind it, but yeah, I think so. Well, then I
will add this because this is going to set up
with Jonas and I are going to dive into Do
you feel the let's just call it the Romo Witten
Dez era. Do you wish more would have come out
of that? Of course? Yes, I mean look at the
potential even up until, um, you know, the the last

(27:39):
couple of seasons, even you know with Witten with Dak
Prescott as as a quarterback. But no, I think when
Romo was there, he was like finally the first seemingly
franchise quarterbacks since Troy Aitman for that matter, you know,
most of us lived through Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson
and all kinds of random oh my gosh, Brandon Weedon

(28:00):
during the absence of Tony Romo. So I think there
was just so much hope. And you guys know, I mean,
the NFL Cowboys fans were either gonna win the Super
Bowl this year or we're gonna stink this year. There's
no fifty fifty at the beginning of the season. So
I think there was just so much hope and uh
and and and with that defense, you know, with DeMarcus
where for there there for a while, Jay Ratliff, you know,

(28:22):
they had a solid looking defense for a while. Yeah,
it was a colossal disappointment as far as I'm concerned.
And that then Jonas falls on the shoulder of shoulders
of well Jerry Jones. But here's and he would be
easy to blame. But I will say this about Jerry Jones.
For a team that has done nothing in almost what

(28:43):
we're talking to twenty years, like what so so almost
almost a quarter of a century, they've done They've done nothing.
They're the biggest thing in the NFL, and it's not close. Man,
Like these guys Romo never won a Super Bowl, Witten
never won a Super Bowl, get top broadcasting jobs. The

(29:04):
second day walk out of the NFL like that doesn't
happen a lot of places like you look at like
some of these stories. Dez Bryant was a big story.
Des Bryant getting released by the Cowboys was a big story.
We talked about it on the air. There was no
point during des Bryant's career where you would have taken
him over every single wide receiver in the league. He
was never the best player at his position in the

(29:25):
league at any point in his career. But it was
a big story because he's a Cowboy. So Jerry Jones
may not have delivered a lot of wins over the
last twenty five years, but that dude's delivered a ton
of relics. Well. And let's let's start before Jerry Jones
bought the team too. I mean, anything with the star
on that helmet, starting from the seventies on has been
the national story of the National Football League. I mean,

(29:46):
going back to dry I mean, it's it's just the
it's a legendary franchise. And yes, some of it has
earned obviously, and some of it is just because these
guys have stars on their helmet. What I just I
look back and I look at this team, and I
even look at the team and how it's constructed now,
because honestly, they fell into deck, but they didn't fall
into what they did with that offensive line. And if

(30:08):
at some point during that time, with Tony Romo and
with Jason Witten and with as Brian at the top
of the game, if their needs would have been addressed
this team. We look at the one season where they
beat the Lions and lost to the Packers as the
opportunity for Dallas to break that's one season. Yeah, exactly.

(30:28):
We look at that point and point to it and say, oh,
what could have been? But that was the only season
that we can really do that with that core. And and
and I'll even put the Marcus where in to that,
you know, part of the conversation of they had pieces
that they just did not take advantage of, or it's
it's I hate to say it's a waste because it's
not fair to the individual efforts of what Jason Witton

(30:51):
did or what de Marcus ware did. But as a
whole and as a Cowboy fan, yeah, it was a
waste because they just didn't accomplish anything during that time
with talent that I think other teams would have loved
to have had. Well. And here's the thing to a
lot of people are like, how can he not come
back and try for another Super Bowl? If the team
that went thirteen and three two seasons ago loses the

(31:13):
first game they play in the playoffs, how is Witten
supposed to think, Yeah, I'll stick it out with you know,
why why put his body through that. He's got, you know,
four kids, He's got this opportunity that most people don't
have a chance to get. His name wasn't even the
conversation a month ago for this gig. Everybody was talking
Peyton Manning or you know, then bred Farv and you

(31:34):
know all of these other names. Uh some coaches, Why
would Witten stick around and continue this, uh this effort
of futility? I mean, I hate to say that as
a Cowboys fan, but there has always, you know, for
good or or or not so much lately, there's always
been drama surrounding it to whether it was with tarall
Owens and then with Dez Bryant and now with Ezekiel Elliott.

(31:55):
There's always an element of drama, and that's also what
draws the eyeballs to this team. Yeah, and I also
think that what who was his good buddy on the
Cowboys for years and years is best from his Tony Romo.
And so Tony Romo got out of the game did
the broadcasting thing. A lot of people really liked his style.
He had a lot of fun doing it, and they
probably had conversations. The first time I started even thinking

(32:17):
about the idea of Witten retiring is do you remember
those rumors that came out when Tennessee was looking for
a head coach. All of a sudden, Jason Witten's name
popped up. I'm like, what, let's say, this guy isn't
even retired. Why is that happening? I wonder if he,
after talking with Romo, said if there's opportunities, I want
to try and pursue something else, because his deb said,
you know, why come back if it's not going to
be for a really, really really good opportunity to chase

(32:40):
the Super Bowl. And so when this opportunity comes up,
you can't turn that down. You just can't do it.
It is amazing like growing up watching the NFL in
the nineties, and I know, so many of my friends
or people that I that I grew up with that
are still Cowboy fans because of those teams in the nineties.
And it's not just because of the time, because you

(33:01):
remember the other team that was really good back then.
I I don't mean there there that was another option,
but everybody sided with the Cowboys. That was always the
team everybody went to, whether they were more popular or
more fun to watch, or whatever the case may be.
And the fact that that is carried on twenty plus years,
and to Deb's point, even further than that, back to

(33:22):
the Tom Landry days, that's incredible marketing and an incredible
job by Jerry Jones. It's amazing. And you mentioned Tony Romo.
He's gonna throw Jason Witten a pass and then witness
Anna immediately gonna lie down. But you know, just like
you could take like five baby steps and then he
would fall down. That's that's he would always do that

(33:45):
thing where he would back up into it. But this guy,
he missed one game with a broken jaw in his
entire career. He came from he had a spleen that
was a rupture. And remember in the preseason and he
played Yeah, it's tough guy and in his blocking is
is something that now at the tight end position you
don't see as much. Jason Witten was a blocking tight

(34:07):
end that could catch the ball. He is in the
line of the the Greg Olsen type, the the Gronk,
not the Jimmy Graham New Age titan that you see
in the NFL today. Uh, Dan Buyer, Jonas ko In
for deug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio. You can get,
by the way, if you disagree with Deb Carson uh
summary of the Dallas Cowboys, It's at Deb Carson on Twitter.

(34:30):
Deb Right, I'll send I'll send all the angry cow
there is um. Alright, So coming up next year on
Fox Sports Radio, somebody in sports is really really mad.
They are mad that they don't get enough days off.
Find out who we're talking about next on FSR. That's
Jonas Knocks John Ramos here as well. I'm Dan Buyer.

(34:52):
You can always listen to the show on the I
Heart Radio app and sirius XM channel three. Find me
on Twitter. I'm at Dan by a on Fox Jonas
they can get you as at the Jonas Knocks and John.
Your Twitter handle is It's Thursday, and that's usually when
I mixed things up a little bit. Get crazy at
j S Romos zero six. Dan, you can get Ryan

(35:13):
Music at Music Reports, but that's m U S I
c K. And get Deb Carson at Deb Carson. Okay,
this is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show, as
we play a game with Deb. Hello, dep Hello, Dan,
Hello Jonas. What game do we got today? Guess who rides? Alright,

(35:37):
starting with number one, guess who in the NFL can
no longer go skydiving, racing of any kind, including as
a driver or a passenger, be a professional professional wrestler,
or go surfing. I know this one. Do you want
to take a crack? I'll tell you. Okay, Okay, Colin Kaepernick, No,
what close? He's close? Jimmy Garoppolo it is. And there

(36:01):
are actually two answers to this one, Jimmy Garoppolo and
Richard Sherman. And this in their new contract. This story,
by the way, courtesy of Ben Villin of The Boston Globe,
to contracts prohibit them from not only those things, but
also jet skiing, bungee jumping, and snow or water skiing.

(36:22):
No TV, no luck, in the dolls. Don't go to
the dolls. He can't go water skiing. There's no point
and no firearms. Okay, alright, alright, alright. Number two guests
who believes Aaron Rodgers will get a new contracts soon.
Oh this is let me see who believes I'm gonna

(36:42):
go Brett Farve. I'm gonna say, I don't know this one. No, No,
I have an answer Aaron Rodgers. It's actually New Packers GM.
Brian Goodikins, who told NBC Sports he believes new contract
will get done soon, said quote, both sides are working

(37:04):
towards it and we're confident will come to an agreement soon.
There are no rush though. He's under contract for the
next two seasons and the Packers could still franchise tag
him the following two seasons. But but he says it
won't be long. I love the fake outrage or people.
Oh no, errand's not happy with what's happening in Green Bay. No,

(37:24):
he's he's not going anywhere. Yeah, he's so unhappy that
he's now part owner of the box. Hey. Oh, and
he said, yeah, it's it's more than just a mutual interest.
He said, on both sides alright, next, guess who is
upset about their current schedule in the NBA playoffs. Oh,
I thought you were gonna say who's upset for losing
with dancing at the Dancing with the Star. That was

(37:46):
Johnny Damon from yesterday. Who would be upset at the
sched I'm gonna go with Kyrie Irving. No, I am
going to go how about this, I'm gonna go off
the board. I'm going to say t N T No, No,
it would be Lebron. There is kind of weird series

(38:08):
that does not get two days in between games, and
that's kind of weird. But that's why I'm going gets
efficient with my energy is possible in between days. I
was able to get a lot of rest yesterday and
go for the chleng night is Mr Passive Aggressive? Good
to see you against sir. I'll tell you why it's
weird because your series went seven games, can win a

(38:28):
full two weeks in the first round. You would have
had a little bit more time to rest up for
Game one against the Raptors. If you would have closed
out the Pacers, I don't know, saying maybe five games
instead of going the full seven. That's why he's you know.
He reminds me. Ever you ever dated somebody who instead
of just coming out and saying what's bothering them, they'll
just respond with something, Oh, I guess we don't have

(38:50):
to go. I mean, I guess, I mean, I guess.
And it's just like we just say, are you unhappy
we're not going? Did you really want to go? Just
say they? Lebron is that guy, and he doesn't at
least once a playoff. He does this every year. Our job,
our job in sports is to follow sports. I have
to check each day what games are going on that night.

(39:12):
Yet Lebron knows the entire conference semifinal schedules for all
four series. What do you mean he's off social media? Dan,
everybody Jesus sticking with the NBA. Guess who was reportedly
gaining serious traction is the next head coach of the Knicks? Bad?

(39:32):
I hope I know that he. I know that he
I know that he interviewed for the job. But I
hope it's not Kenny Smith because okay, good, because I
don't want to lose him off t NTA. It would
be David Fizdale, my friends, gaining serious tractions as the
front as the front runner according to Yahoo's Sports. The
coaches who have been interviewed already have been, of course Fizdale,

(39:55):
David Blatt, Mark Jackson, Mike Budenholzer. So again, so Fisdale
could be the next head coach. Get out there and
pressed that game game? Where is? This is game time?
On the Duck Gottlieb Show. We do want to let
you know we are brought to you by True Car.
Car shopping can be confusing with terms like dealer price, list, price,

(40:18):
and invoics. True Car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want, so you can recognize a
good price when you're ready to buy a new or
used car. Visit Truecar to enjoy more confident car buying experience.
It's funny because a lot of the names that Dev
mentioned for the NIXT job are also in consideration for
the Milwaukee Bucks job, and a lot of the reports
about the Bucks job head coaches with previous coaching experience.

(40:40):
Here's the name to watch for the Milwaukee Bucks for
their next head coach, and John Ramos is here as well.
Rolling along on this Thursday, getting set for an NBA doubleheader,
which I don't want to throw you off, but it
actually begins in two hours, yes, six o'clock Eastern time.
Those Raptors and Calves playing tonight a little bit early
are than expected because he got another game on the

(41:02):
East Coast in Boston with his Sixers taking on the Celtics.
Still looking back at what happened last night, though, in Houston,
is the Utah Jazz much more than just making it
a series. Jonas getting that eight point win against the
Houston Rockets last night, Joe Ingles gives us hope, doesn't
he All you gotta do is just be abnormally tall

(41:25):
and not jump when you shoot a three, and he
just gives you hope that that is a It is
a key thing if you use too much legs on
a jump shot. And I know I'm not the expert.
Doug would be more of an expert to tell you
about this. Too much legs is too much inconsistency. It
also tires you out more if you could just do

(41:45):
a little, you know, sleepy Sam Perkins shot something, Yes,
yes Perkins, you don't need a lot of legs to
shoot those three and then those threes, and then you're
not tired out as much. He's the Australian Sam Perkins.
And by the way, did you know he's only like
thirty years old. Yeah, he looks. I remember when he

(42:06):
and Jerry Sloan, Um. You know we're kind of a
coach player together on the court. You know, you think
the Clippers wouldn't mind having him back. Uh, Clippers, Butcher
that one pretty good? Uh No. And there by the way,
you know it's bad for you when the best thing
about your team is that a player's mom hit it
big on the price is right. That's what the Patrick

(42:29):
Beverley like, his mom won big on the price is right.
And that's the only thing you've heard good about the
Clippers in the last four months. Yeah, let's go ahead
and we'll we'll we'll pull the curtain back a little
bit here and let's get to the real root of
the comment Dan just made. All right, because Dan stay,
he wants to be a professional. But here's the real
reason Dan brought up that Patrick Beverley's mom won on
the prices, Right, Dan, And I am telling this for

(42:51):
anybody out there. Is the best game show host that
isn't currently hosting a game show, all right, And I
don't want to don't don't at me with your other
who I have a buddy who has this, and I
have a buddy who can do that. Stop. Dan Buyer
is the best game show host who's not currently hosting
a game show. Dan Buyer also loves daytime TV, which

(43:12):
means Dan Buyer loves and grew up on game shows.
The fact that Patrick Beverley's mom won that much, not
even the fact that she won, but she was a
guest and is now being known for what she did
on The Prices Right pisses Dan Buyer off to no end.
I'm glad that somebody at least knows how to play
the games, because now that I seemed to be the
least of importance when calling contestants down to contestants row.

(43:35):
In fact, I feel that The Price Is Right actually
takes the dumbest contestants they can find while lining up
for the show and brings them down because they know
them they're not gonna have to give away three cars
in an episode. By the way, there's usually never three
cars given away in an episode. If you'll notice this.
The first three games that you play, what you'll get

(43:56):
is you'll get like a a bigger game, like a
car or cash, and then the next game will be
something like, um, I don't know, let's just say danger Price,
where you can win like a table, some bags, maybe
a scooter, and a refrigerator. They're not going to give
you three cars in the first three games. That's something
that you have to realize. But also if you have

(44:17):
stupid contestants they don't know how to play games, then
you can just keep on trying to give that car
away episode after episode because people don't know how to play.
She apparently knows how to play. She played let him
Roll and then did well on the wheel and also
in the showcase showed out and that is your l
A Clippers season review. Back to the Jazz and Rockets,

(44:38):
Utah was up nineteen, only to see the Rockets come
back and take the lead. Yet Utah pulls away late
and wins by eight to even up their Western Conference
semifinal series. The tip of the cat cap credits Jonas.
According to Sam Ammick of USA Today, who joined US earlier,
goes to Jazz head coach Quinn Snyder, you gotta tip
your hat to him. You made a justice in game too.

(45:00):
And I think one that has been overlooked a little
bit is that a lot of focus on Donovan Mitchell's
shooting struggles for the first three quarters, but they obviously
made a real concerted effort to turn him into a
point guard and a playmaker. Had five assist at the
first quarter. I think that through the Rockets off a
little bit. They thought the offense was going to go
through Joe Ingles, and sure enough they get out to
that really good start and that kind of game the

(45:21):
foundation going forward. That was Sam Amock earlier on the
show here on The Doug Gottlieb Show. So, Quinn Snyder
the big winner. Houston Rockets were losers last night, but
is he? Is he truly the biggest loser from last
night's game or maybe from these semi conference semifinal playoffs.

(45:41):
So the biggest loser being they lost a home game.
You know, it's a game games one, or games too well.
But this is where the NBA playoff format you can
get away with stuff like this. I mean, I feel
like this would be a bigger deal in another sport.
Um Toronto Cleveland is a different story because Toronto Cleveland
there's history they where there's a mental block. It seems like,

(46:02):
so if you lose that one game, that seems like
a big deal. If Philly goes in and beats Boston tonight,
that's a big deal. I still think, like you said,
you still think Houston's gonna can you know, can get
a game in Utah. But it's just it is, it
does feel like there's a certain It does feel like
there's a certain style that Houston has to play at,

(46:23):
and if they don't play at that style, they're not
going to win. As opposed to other teams in the
playoffs who can swim in the mud, Like if you
look around the playoffs that the team's remaining, they can
all get down in dirty and win a playoff game.
I don't feel like Houston can. I just I feel
like they've got one style they can go to. Golden
Steak can get down in dirty and win a playoff game.

(46:45):
That's why Draymond Green's there. Uh, Boston, you know, can
do it. Philadelphia I feel I can probably do it.
Cleveland for sure can do it because they're not winning
outside of Lebron James that they've got to figure out
other ways to play. I think maybe Toronto could do it.
And when you look at Houston, they've got one style
of play It's why p J. Tucker was trying to
talk and get into physical altercations because he felt like

(47:08):
they needed that, like they were being out toughed by Utah,
and it played out in the game. Yes, still, I
still think Houston wins this series. I think they go
to Utah and get at least a split in games
three and four. I don't think that there's anything to
panic with the Rockets team. But truly, the Rockets team
is built to try to take down the Golden State Warriors.
So it's just a game that the Houston Rockets ended

(47:28):
up losing last night. But I think they get one
back in Utah. Let me ask you a question, Dan,
if I were to say to you, anybody in the
n B A who's had the worst season in the NBA, Like, like,
if you were to listen, you could list off a
couple of guys that you would look back on and
go like, of course, people would look at maybe, uh,

(47:48):
Carmelo Anthony kind of a bad season, you know, not
not a real good look for him. But who's somebody
else that you would think would have the worst season
in the NBA? Ah, jeez, h I it's if you
just think about like team, maybe somebody that had a
little bit of a letdown, somebody to where they were
expecting to to do something. And I was going to

(48:09):
give you a team, I mean, obviously the Phoenix suns.
Um Can I throw one at you, Gordon Hayward, Think
about what this guy is currently dealing with. Two minutes
into the regular season, his leg almost falls off, all right,
He's out for the year. The team he's on is

(48:29):
better without him and leading in their series in the
semifinals of the Eastern Conference. His old team that he
was on and left is better without him and now
tied in the semifinals of the Western Conference playoffs. And
there ain't nothing he can do about it except hope
I get healthy and hope I can come back next year.

(48:51):
What do you think that guy's emotions are like right now?
I looked at when the UTAW was beating Oklahoma City,
and you saw the energy that was in Salt Lake,
and you saw that arena be so alive. I thought
to myself, you know, ten months ago this fan base
was was heartbroken because of Gordon Hayward leaving to now

(49:13):
not only to not only be over that and now
be with a new girlfriend or boyfriend. That's ten times
better than than what they they had and and just
like wow, that relationship maybe wasn't as great. I'm so
glad that I was dumped because now I have a

(49:34):
much better, much better relationship. I actually feel bad for
him in this regard. Well, I'm glad that he got paid,
he got his money before he got hurt, and so
I'm always I'm always feel good for guys that that.
It's not the other way around. So I'm glad that
he got paid and all that, But it's not like
I mean, you tah, no, no doubt about. It is

(49:56):
better without him than they were with him. And that's
Donna and Mitchell, and right now Donovan Mitchell is a
better player period. And then Boston has figured this out
to where I mean, now next year you have to
have an honest, like a conversation with yourself. I mean,
is is he going to be able to give us
what Jalen Brown or Jayson Tatum has been able to
give us. I don't know how you how you work

(50:17):
him back in. It's just an uncomfortable spot to be in.
And then your coach, the guy who recruited you in college,
the one who you showed up and wanted to play for.
Is now getting all the headlines at being what a
phenomenal coach he is. He can take these players and
make him do amazing things. I think there's something to
the fact that Kyrie irvings on the bench. I don't

(50:37):
see Gordon Hayward anywhere, and and I don't want to
read too much into it, but I just wonder if
part of that is that it eats him up so
much to just be around everybody else's success that he
could have been a part of Michael Scott's in an
episode of the Office, calling it a lose, lose, lose
situation for Gordon Hayward because that's what this season has been.
Looks like it could be a winning situation with a

(50:59):
quarterback in the NFL With some breaking news breaking news
from Fox Sports, deb Carson has the latest of what's
going on in the NFL. Deb that's right, We've got
breaking news. The NFL has its first thirty million dollar
a year quarterback. Matt Ryan has agreed to a five
year extension with the Falcons, making him the first thirty

(51:19):
million dollar a year quarterback. One hundred million bucks of
this deal is guaranteed. Guys again, Matt Ryan getting a
new five year extension A hundred million of that guaranteed. Wow,
there's yeah, there there. I think there's a lot going
on in Atlanta, and I don't think that the Julio
Jones stuff that was reported last week was coincidence. I'm

(51:40):
just I think there's a lot going on in Atlanta,
and I think that this contract tells us a couple
of different things. And the fact that they drafted Calvin
Ridley when I don't want to give it all away
right now, you know, like, yeah, I'm just listen. I mean,
look and I say Calvin Ridley. Did I say Calvin Ridley?
I met that guy's fourth round? You're hearing things, Dan. Oh.

(52:04):
The fact is is when you look at the way
that the Falcons, and if you if you actually watch
the Falcons play, you really know what their strengths are.
And I think that the timing of this, the personnel
that they have where they are in the division, I
think it's something that is very intriguing for the Falcons.
Um So, are you saying that you would like to

(52:24):
pay off your tease coming up next? Yeah, we can,
we can do that. I'm gonna I'm gonna overseell this
to no end. Right here we go, So a Dan Buyer,
Jonas knocks in for Doug got Leeper on Fox Sports. Rade.
You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox.
You can get me at the Jonas Knocks. Coming up next,
Dan Buyer has a shocking discovery involving one NFL team

(52:46):
that nearly won a Super Bowl. That's next, I'm Dan Buyer.
That's Jonas Knocks. John Ramos here as well as it.
John Amos Show comes up in a little over an hour,
And of course the new Twitter handle wasn't veiled yesterday
at John Ramos Show. If you would like to weigh

(53:08):
in there. But we've got breaking news in the National
Football League. Deb Carson breaking it earlier that Matt Ryan
has agreed to a five year extension. Chris Mortenson of
ESPN the first with the numbers, makes him the first
quarterback getting thirty million dollars a season in the National
Football League gets one million dollars guaranteed. So now Matt

(53:31):
Ryan is the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. And
as we talk about every single time, Jonas, when a
quarterback gets paid, it's not necessarily about that quarterback. It's
about okay, who is next? And it only seemed fitting
that Matt Ryan, at least for what he has led
the Atlanta Falcons to in his m v P season,

(53:54):
that because he was next in line for a contract extension,
would get that contract extension. So I'm not surprised is
that Matt Ryan got his extension and that he's getting
thirty million dollars gearant in his dollars annually, excuse me,
and a hundred million dollars guaranteed, because that just seems
to fall in line with everything else with quarterbacks. The
price is doing business at that position. That's the way

(54:15):
it goes, and it's in the especially when you see
other players get deals like that. Rogers is the next one, right,
He's going to be the next one to get paid.
So you think Rogers is upset Matt Ryan just got
that money. You're kidding. Rogers is gonna get paid a
grip based on what Matt Ryan just got because now
you've set the bar at a certain level. So it's

(54:37):
just it's the way it goes. I mean, you can
argue back and forth about whether or not you think
he's I mean, I think Matt Ryan's a pretty good quarterback.
I don't. I don't put him in an elite class
or anything like that, But I also understand what the
business is like, and at that position, it's that price
four quarterbacks. He was just next in line, and that's

(54:58):
the way it goes. When you look at the Falcons
and where they really had success, I think it's running
the football. And while it's great that Julio Jones is
such a main target of Matt Ryan, I don't think
that their success is tied with Julio Jones. And if

(55:21):
you're the Falcons and you see how last year ended
up playing out, remember when they didn't beat the Eagles
in the divisional playoff game. We talked about that that
last play on the fourth down play, the one option
Julio Jones in the red zone was not is not

(55:41):
the sure bet that maybe some people would casually think
Julio Jones and the red zone has actually been a
problem throughout his career of actually being a main target
and go to situations Matt Ryan, in my mind, in
those clutch situations, Jonas look for Mohammedson you or he
would look for Tevin Coleman to make a play out

(56:03):
of the backfield. And while Julio Jones is one of
the top five receivers and big playmakers in the game
when it really came down to it, and when it
really when when it came down to it, for the
Atlanta Falcons, they're really a running team on the shoulders
of Davante Freeman and Tevin Coleman. And you mentioned that
Matt Ryan being you don't think he's the top to

(56:25):
your quarterback. I agree with that assessment. He's good enough
to get to the Falcons to where they need to be.
But it doesn't make any sense for them to have
Julio Jones making the what you know, fifteen million dollars
a year that that he's gonna make twelve thirteen million
dollars a year that you would make as a wide receiver,
because their success doesn't rely in that spot. I think

(56:48):
that this is this is locking up their quarterback. They've
also locked up Desmond Truffont to a deal, so they're
trying to do stuff on defense as well. But I
just look at this as being like, Okay, you mentioned
bringing in Calvin Ridley with that first round pick. We
have a lot of the talk with Julio Jones on
following the Falcons on his Instagram page. The Falcons are

(57:09):
a better team when they're not relying on Julio Jones.
And it's evident. Sure he made the great catch in
the Super Bowl and four catches in that Super Bowl. Yeah.
So so when you look at really what Atlanta has done,
I just don't see that their future is with Julio
Jones being that star guy. And I think that this
signing locks up Matt Ryan, but it also means, you
know what, maybe it doesn't doesn't make sense for us

(57:32):
to be paying a wide receiver of Julio Jones caliber.
Great and all that amount of money since now we're
giving so much to the quarterback and now to the
cornerback and now we've got a first round pick. A
lot of these signs, I say, look to Julio Jones
maybe being elsewhere. And the conversation during the draft when
the selection of Calvin Ridley came in, the conversation at

(57:53):
the desk of NFL Network Slash Fox was well, it
makes a lot of sense. You know, you lost Taylor
Gabriel and in the off season, and uh, you know this,
first of all, you're not drafting a guy with the
first round pick because you're really hoping he can replace
Taylor effing Gabriel. Okay, let's stop. All right, you're drafting
a guy because you're expecting more out of him than

(58:14):
Taylor Gabriel. And so if this means that this is
Julio Jones and they've had an interesting offseason, didn't need
delete all of his any reference to the Falcons on
his social media or something like that. Okay, so yeah,
so off his Instagram and and there's been like there's
another conversation where they the organization talked with Julio Jones.

(58:36):
They said that he's in a really good place or
something like that. Just sort of sort of an interesting
situation there with Jones. But this whole the NFL is
a copycat league. And the New Orleans Saints had a
lot of success last year, and the reason they had
a lot of success was the emergence of Alvin Kamara
and mark Ingram and all of a sudden, that two

(58:57):
backs set really set New Orleans up to be a
different offense than maybe even what they were before. Now
it was no longer just and Drew Brees. To your point,
this two back set Tevin Coleman, DeVante Freeman. Atlanta has
been doing it for a couple of years. That's maybe
more of a reason why they were in a Super
Bowl than Julio. So the idea that you know, I

(59:18):
don't know if you can get like you could, I
wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta decided within the next year
or so. All right, let's you know, maybe even this offseason.
If things don't go the way that that we think
it's gonna go and we feel like we've got something here,
they wait to see how Calvin Ridley performs in in
the off season in training camp, and maybe they look
around and go, hey, if we get a decent enough offer,

(59:39):
what are we waiting for? I mean, let's unload. And
and you know, if we've talked about it before, who's
the best wide receiver to win a Super Bowl recently?
Like like Damarius Thomas, what did he? What did he do? So, yeah,
it happened to be on the team that actually won.
There's a lot to what you're saying. And I think
there's a team out there, there's probably teams out there

(01:00:00):
would that would overpay for There is also something that
that we have heard throughout the season, and Atlanta really
caught their stride in the final quarter of last year.
But there was a lot of talk. Remember this team
lost to the Dolphins at home in a game where
I believe they were up seventeen nothing in halftime this
past season, and that's where a lot of the talks

(01:00:23):
started to come up of Steve Sarkisian as the offensive
coordinator of not making adjustments and teams were taking the
Falcons to the wood shed in the second half of
those games. Steve Sarkisian, I think if you were to
rank the offensive coordinators in the National Football Rank, rank them,
I don't think. I think it's pretty safe to say

(01:00:43):
he wouldn't be in the top sixteen, the top half
of the NFL. But you know, what's a lot what
makes the job of an offensive coordinator a lot easier
to do is to just be able to run the
ball and then using the run to set up play
action or to set up different plays. And so Steve
star Sarksian does like to run the ball, so that

(01:01:04):
works out well for dan Quinn and what they want
to do on defense. It's he may not be the
top offensive coordinator, and I'm gonna compare it to Seattle
because Darryl Bevel wasn't the top offensive coordinator in the
National Football League, but the defense picked up a lot
of the slack that the offense couldn't do. But when
the offense was rolling with Marshawn Lynch, it worked well
in concert with each other. That's all the Falcons need.

(01:01:26):
The defense is improving and improving, and we saw heck,
they were the only ones to really shut down the
Eagles in the postseason. The dan Quinn team is really
really taking form. And I don't think that he minds
Steve sarkisian Is as his offensive coordinator despite the fact
that other people think that he isn't as good, because
it helps out what his defense does, and what Steve
Sarkesian does in the air doesn't necessarily benefit Julio Jones.

(01:01:50):
And I'll give dan Quinn credit. Man, how many times
have we seen a team lose a gut wrenching championship
game in the in the manner that the Falcons not
historically NFL wise, but in other sports you lose a
game seven, or you lose a big game, and you
go out like that and then the next year you
fold and Atlanta didn't, and there were several chances for

(01:02:10):
them to fold, and not only did they play well
down the end, but when they got to the postseason,
they exposed the Rams at home in the Colosseum. They
moved on and they probably should have won that game
against Philadelphia. So they were a play away from being
back in the NFC title game after they lost the
Super Bowl and the most horrific fashion that anybody's ever
lost in historic in the league. So psychologically dan Quinn's

(01:02:34):
got him set up for success like they're they are
set up just based on those results last year. And and
and I like the fact as well, is that what
the Falcons didn't do that cost them that Super Bowl
was running late, and a lot of that blame goes
on Kyle Shanahan calling the offensive plays at that time.
Dan Quinn's gonna make darn well sure they don't make
that mistake again. And there's where the commitment to the

(01:02:57):
run goes. It's great to have Julio Jones I your team,
no doubt about that. But when you really look at
the value, and you really look at the price, and
now you're paying Matt Ryan thirty million dollars to just
be the guy that is a good enough quarterback to
lead you. I I think this almost says more about
the future of the Falcons and Julio Jones than it
does anything else. With Mett Ryan getting his extension, Dan

(01:03:17):
Buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox
Sports Radio. Do you want to let you know we
were brought to you by a True Car? Car shopping
could be confusing with terms like dealer, price, list, price,
and invoice. True car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want to see. You can recognize
a good price when you're ready to buy a new
or used car. Visit True Car to enjoy a more
confident car buying experience. Up next, another big story out

(01:03:40):
of the NFL that's way, way, way too overhyped. We'll
tell you what that is next, but for all the
latest deb Carson, We'll got some breaking news. The NFL
has its first thirty million dollar a year quarterback. It
would be Falcons met Ryan. The Falcons and the quarterback
are agreed one who five year, one fifty million dollar extension,

(01:04:01):
including a hundred million of that guaranteed. Those numbers courtesy
of NFL Media. I mean while it's an end of
an era in Dallas. After much self reflection, prayer and faith,
today I've decided that his time has come me to
pass it towards so the next generation of Dallas Cowboys
and retired from the National Football League. Cowboys tight end
Jason Witten retiring after fifteen years in the NFL to

(01:04:24):
join Monday Night Football as an analyst. College Football Georgia
has extended Kirby Smart seven years forty nine million bucks.
He'll be the fifth highest paid coach in college football.
Miami has extended the contract of head coach Mark Rick
through three and Tiger Woods is playing at the Wells
Fargo Championship. Just Bogie's Bogie. He is now even through

(01:04:45):
twelve first round holes, five off the lead. Rory McElroy's
just two back at three under part Phil Micholson having
a rough first round. He is one over par. Guys,
Thanks Dev, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. He's Jonas Knocks,
I'm Dan Buyer. John Ramos here is well. You heard
Dev play some audio of Jason Witten retiring as the
Cowboys ten end, calling it quits as he has now

(01:05:07):
headed to the broadcast Booth gonna be the analyst for
ESPNS Monday Night Football. A long, great career for Jason Witten,
thirty five years old, calling it quits, where he appeared
in two hundred and thirty nine games with two hundred
and twenty nine starts. His eleven and fifty two career
catches our fourth in NFL history. He's second behind Tony

(01:05:31):
Gonzalez in Pro Bowl appearances by a tight end and
in career receiving yards. I believe he's twenty first all
time in receiving yards. But Jason Witten one of the
best tight ends that the NFL has had over the
last couple of years. But just as we were saying
Jonas that the earlier in the program, and if you
may have missed it, ESPN obviously with their connections of

(01:05:53):
bringing in Witten as an analyst, we're ready to hype
up this retirement so much so that there was an
EESPN Sports Center special. I don't ever remember a Sports
Center special, and I could be wrong, I'm not. I
may not have the information, but I just don't recall
Jonas of a player in the National Football League retiring

(01:06:15):
that got their own ESPN Sports Center special. I'm surprised
Tom Ronaldi didn't do the eulogy. I mean, come on, guys,
it was it was quite They had they had a
panel of four people talking about it, and then Dev
described it earlier of him walking down a long hallway
with cowboy employees and players snapping pictures and shaking hands.

(01:06:36):
And it was for for a retirement of of a
player of Jason Witten's caliber. I get it. I I
get it for what he meant to that building, and
I get for what he meant to that team. But
I just wonder, does Sports Center does ESPN have this
sort of layout if he A isn't an analyst and
B let's just say, I don't know. He's a member

(01:06:57):
of the Atlanta Falcons and had the same career. Did
they do the for Tony Gonzalez who was leaving to
them take a job for CBS. No, they didn't. It
was our teammate on Fox. Here. Yeah, here's the other one.
Remember when Fox hired Jay Cutler for like two weeks? Yes,
what did you do? One interview on the network? One
interview like nobody even talked about it was like, oh,
I'd be it'd be interesting to see, like they he

(01:07:19):
Jason went and just walked through that the back hallway
like he was making an end, Like he was entry
at number thirty at the Royal Rumble and everybody was
high fiving him on the way down to the ring.
The hell's going on here? Like this is almost as
bad as when Steve Bushati uh last offseason they were
talking about the Colin Kaepernick stuff came up and and
Bashatti gave this press conference or he was like talking

(01:07:41):
to a group of people there that were assembled and
he just uh, he finished it. Obviously. You know we're
going to talk about Colin, you know, just sort of
the drawbacks of bringing him in with the organization. So, um,
pray for us. What why for? What? What are we
talking about here? Jason Witten, come on the the the

(01:08:03):
fact of the matter is you and Dev hit the
nail on the head. I mean, this brand of of
the Dallas Cowboys is just it's huge. But it also
then you have to say that if it wasn't a
Cowboys brand, we aren't doing this. NFL dot Com And
I get that it's early May and the draft is

(01:08:24):
now in the rear view mirror and there's only so
many things that you can go back and talk about
what happened last weekend. But for a while this morning,
before Matt Ryan got his contract extension, Jason Witton retiring
was the the top story. I get that it's the
top story of the NFL on the league website, but Jonas,
what they ended up having them was the discussion on

(01:08:46):
is Jason Wittney first ballot Hall of Famer? And I
feel that we elevate these players because of this that
star on their helmet. And I'll just use Tony Romo
as an example. There's no way Tony Romo is ever
getting into the Hall of Fame. It is, It is
not going to happen. However, he ain't get into the

(01:09:08):
broadcaster Hall of Fame. You're not a fan. I I
don't mind it as much. After the play needs to improve.
Preplay is where he's making his cash. After the play,
That's all right. But the point is we are now
making up discussions because of who he is. If Antonio

(01:09:30):
Gates doesn't find a team in do we have an
article asking seven panelists if Antonio Gates is a first
ballot Hall of Fame And by the way, if if
you wanted to know where Tony the names around Tony
Romo for the for all time passing yards in the
National National Football League. These are a couple of the

(01:09:51):
names around Tony Romo inc. Steve de Berg. Yeah, he
had the mandible claw hand for a while because he
had does he had like his hand fell a party.
Look at Edwards cis hand he had. In fact, I
think he had a trading card with that on it.
I believe maybe in maybe by the way Tops, I
think it could have been. I think that could he

(01:10:14):
is he is in that in that I don't know neighborhood.
How about this name, Matthew Stafford. Matthew Stafford actually ahead
of Tony Romo. Tony Romo also just edged out Phil Simms,
even though Phil Simms had a longer career, you know,
played most seasons. But those are the names that we're

(01:10:37):
talking about. How far ahead of Simms is Romo two spots?
About seven yards? Okay, So think about that. Not only
did he beat Phil Simms by seven yards in his
playing career, but then he stole his job from him
after his during his broadcasting career. Think about that. Everything
is bigger in Texas. I get that, but boy, do

(01:10:58):
we blow stuff out of portion when it comes to Cowboys,
I mean, it really is. And I may have been
guilty of it with Dez Bryant because I know you're
not as high on des Brian or weren't not as
high on him as I was. I felt that he
was a physical freak and could dominate at that position.
It just didn't work out for him. But it didn't
turn out like that, I should say. But when you

(01:11:19):
look at these names that we end up, Jason Witten
is going into the Hall of Fame first ballot, and
you're having a debate with seven players on it. Greg
Olsen has got a a similar career to Jason Witten.
Maybe not as many one yard games is what greg
Olsen has, but he's a guy that blocks, that plays

(01:11:40):
every game. Not only that, greg Olsen plays every single play.
We aren't having that conversation with greg Olsen what we
are with Jason Witten, and it's it's that star that's
the magnifying glass and making everything with Dallas is bigger
and better, and I'm not sure that it should be
when we're looking at where these former Cowboys end up

(01:12:01):
in their career. Well, Jason Garrett's been with the Cowboys
eight years, Dan, he's got three winning seasons. There's not
a peep about that guy losing his job. I have
no one. There's not even a conversation about that guy
losing his job. So yeah, it's just there's there's something.
But you've got a credit Jerry Jones. Remember a couple
of years ago, and we always got we had fun

(01:12:23):
with this a couple of years ago where Jerry Jones
would go on one oh five three the Fan. At
first of all, the fact that we even know the
number of that station based on Jerry Jones appearances ought
to tell you what a big deal Jerry Jones is.
I've never listened to the station. All I know is
that they got sick of Arnie Spanier. That's all I
know about that station because he pissed everybody off. But

(01:12:45):
one oh five three the Fan in Dallas or one
of three five, whatever it is, Jerry Jones had a
weekly appearance there a couple of times a week when
they were the four win team, I mean a bad
football team. Nobody talked about how bad they were as
a football team. That was the year that every time
he went on, he talked about I'm a monkey fan
I want me some glory hole. All these random drops

(01:13:08):
that we were pulling, and that was the only thing
people talked about. You didn't hear about, Hey, should Tony
Romo retire? Hey? This team's only won four games? What
a disappointment after Dez Bryant got paid? Uh, Jason Garrett,
is this job in trouble? You are none of that.
All you heard was Man, that Jerry guy, he's funny.

(01:13:29):
Hey keeps making these appearances. No one's talking about how
bad the team was on the field. That was never
the conversation. So credit to Jerry Jones for whatever the
hell he's doing. A great game of three card Monty
maybe slight of hands. Tyler and Ronnie tweet in that
they don't remember these Sports Center specials for Jade Nova
Check or Alge Crumpler. Yes, by the way, I still
have it on the DVR, so don't tell me how

(01:13:51):
it happens. So well, listen, I gotta find this this
Steve the Bird card. It's it's gotta be it's I
I thought that I thought that it was. I thought
that it was in his trading card. I honestly did.
I've got to find it up. Yeah, listen, Uh, if
you want to go look up a quarterback playing through pain,
just look up Steve DeBerg cast alright, it looks like

(01:14:14):
they put that together with some windex Elmer's glue and
like a couple of hot dog buns and said, all right, man,
just don't get hit while you're out there, and let's
see if we can figure this out. It. Steve de
Bergh's hand was mangled that one season. That's all I
remember from him. Insult to injury. If you will when
I type Steve de Bergh, I get more results of

(01:14:35):
Steve Young his his replacement, Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in
for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio. Get Dan
on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. You can get
me at the Jonas Knox Coming up next, though, we
are going to uh to hear from one of the
all time great players who has got a great story

(01:14:55):
about a trash talker you wouldn't expect. That's next on
Fox Sports Radio. That's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer. John
Ramos of The John Ramos Show comes up in about
forty minutes or so, and just clarification on an error
that I made earlier. The Steve de Bergh band, what
did you call it? On his hand? He's got it's

(01:15:16):
Elmer's glue, um and a couple of hot dog buns.
The card is from the upper deck set, as Roy
Combs tweeted in the card, I don't know why I
thought it was eighty seven tops. Maybe because of the
white border. That's what kind of threw me, because eighty
seven tops NFL and the deck also had a white border.

(01:15:40):
But yeah, that thing was enormous. Something the left hand,
I think it looks like an even Mitts like like
part of that I would use, like as a grill,
something to grill with. That's what was on Steve de
Bergh's hand back in the early nineteen nights. Descriptive things
we could say about it, but probably not the time
or the place. This is the Doug Gottlieb showing Doug today.

(01:16:01):
I'm Dan Buyer, that's Jonah Stocks. We are in for Doug.
You can always listen to the show on the I
Heart Radio app or check it out on Sirius XM
channel Lady three. And just because Doug is out doesn't
mean we don't do what Doug likes to do, and
that is check in with and now we check in

(01:16:21):
on the Dan Patrick Show. Usually what Doug likes to
do is like to take something from Fox Sports Radio show,
Fox Sports One Show, take something they've said and bring
it to Dougs platform. And that's what he did today
with the Dan Patrick Show. That had earlier today on
Fox Sports Radio is DP chatted with jazz great, former
jazz great John Stockton. Remember as a rookie, he came in,

(01:16:47):
hold on, hold on E Dan. John Stockton was talking
about Larry Bird because Dan Patrick likes to talk about
by Larry Bird trash talk stories. So that's E me,
That's what John Stockton's talking about. I remember as a
rookie he came in. He walked by our bench at
the Salt Palace and said, I feel like and he

(01:17:12):
came out. He scored forty three in the third quarter
and checked checked himself out with a twenty point victory,
and uh, I was fairly impressed without one. So I
had his forty three by the third. Don't you wish
you were that good at anything? Like I wish I
was that good at anything to where I could just
call my shot and say, you know, I'm gonna do
this I'm not. There's nothing I can do that's that

(01:17:33):
good at any Nothing I can do that that's that good.
Larry Bird in a professional basketball game can call his
shot against good players and then just exit and say
I'm good with that. Not only that, I wish I
was good at something, because I'm still trying to find it.
In fact, putting furniture together, I thought I finally put
a piece of furniture together without making a mistake until

(01:17:56):
I put the wrong door on the wrong side of
the table and it messed everything up. But I was
almost there. I would just like to do something good,
let alone be amazing at it's I would just like
to be good at something. You know what you're good at.
Thank you very much, John Ramos, he's a right husband.

(01:18:20):
I want a quick bring up this point because you
have a lot of memories from childhood, and as John
Stockton was just saying, Larry Bird said that he had
forty three in them. The forty three came in two
and a half quarters. I remember as a kid, my
cousin and I'll name his name because he sometimes listens
to the show Mike. We were in little league. Mike

(01:18:42):
was a huge Kirby Buck. I heard about him. He's
the guy with the big drinking problem. Like Mike was
a big Kirby Pucket fan. And Kirby Puckett had four
doubles in a game for the Twins earlier that week,
so in a little league game, my cousin had three.

(01:19:04):
And usually in the later innings of little league, it's
the outfield is a who's who have can't play well,
trust me, I've I've been back there fifth inning, when
you can only play your three innings, they put you
in left field because nobody hits in the left field.
He could have had a triple or inside the park
home run. Uh no, if Kirby Puckets getting four doubles,

(01:19:24):
he just stopped that second while in the because you
wanted to do what Kirby Pucket did. Good. Yeah, nothing like,
uh you know, trying to follow. Although, but I will
say that it's funny. John Ramos and I were actually
talking about it during the break. How so there's a
guy who gets in. Baseball is one of those sports
that you try and emulate the most because there's so

(01:19:44):
much time to sit and watch one player, similar to
free throws, like I used to be able to re
enact anybody's free throw shot the weight with the way
guys shot free throws when I was a kid. When
you watch baseball growing up, I mean, there's a guy
that makes millions of dollars any is batting stance guy
I think is his name, like John, You were doing
that at ten years old. You were saying that we

(01:20:05):
did that with ten, but it was mostly amulating like
the stars of the game at the time. Yeah, so
I can remember I knew how to do Andre Dawson's stance,
and that would be my stance. Every time I went up.
I was like, well, you know, he's really good. I
better do Andre dawson stance. I was the worst, absolutely
the worst. Like you don't realize that they can do
it because that's what feels natural to them, and you

(01:20:27):
torking your leg inside and trying to get to swing
around a bat, you're just gonna rip your back outs.
Here's the thing about you mentioned Andre Dawson. There are
some of the worst batting stances of anybody that were
in the late eighties and nineties. And when you're our age,
Will Clark like standing right, Yes, that's what some of
my friends would try to do. It was. It was

(01:20:49):
such an inefficient stance for us at twelve years old.
But you talk about Dawson stance, heck is a Brewer
fans Cecil Cooper leaning back. Mark McGuire had a weird
one where his his knees bent inwards. I think Moises A.
Loo had that same one where his knees bent inwards.
And you go all though that, But I don't make
me hit a home run. I know I wanted to
make you rip your a c L A party you

(01:21:10):
had of your mind. You show up to a little
league park in nine and nine, you know who the
Julio Franco fans are because that bad is way the
heck up there and swinging at the strike three and
John Ramos getting prep for at John Ramo Show at
the bottom of the hour. Also gonna chat with former
Major League Baseball player World Series champ and now co

(01:21:32):
host of The Great Show on MLB Network. Intentional Talk
Kevin Miller. Coming up here on the Doug gott Leap Show.
As we are in for Doug today. Some big news
from the NFL. May have heard it in the latest
but Matt Ryan is now the highest baid quarterback in
the National Football League on an average salary basis, Jonas
getting more than thirty million dollars per season getting that

(01:21:56):
extension from the Falcons today, Remember when that Andy Dalton
con tract was so huge. What was he getting like
fourteen million a year? And I we're talking like they
that we were dying with thirty million dollars a year.
That's crazy, man. At one point, when does Brady, when
does Tom Brady actually hold the Patriots hostage with a contract?

(01:22:19):
Do you think he ever goes that route or do
you think there's some secret deal there that they've got
something behind uh, you know, behind the scenes, some sort
of maybe part ownership deal or something like that with Kraft.
I don't think that he can get that amount because
I don't think Belichick would pay him that amount. And
I just it's one thing there. So you're then you

(01:22:39):
would say, well, then why did they trade Jimmy Garoppolo. Well,
they ended up trading Jimmy Garoppolo because Bill Belichick realized
that the writing was on the wall, so they had
to get some value to it. However, I think that
Bill Belichick would rather retire than to pay Tom Brady
thirty million dollars a year at quarterback, don't you. I mean,

(01:23:00):
it just doesn't seem like it would be in his
d n A to do something like that. It's just
like I understand that Brady had taken a discount in
years past, now makes about twenty million dollars annually, but
to pay him thirty million dollars year, I think Bill
Belichick would rather retire than to pay Tom Brady that
much money. This is also part of the reason why
the l A. Rams have been so aggressive in this offseason,

(01:23:23):
because it is a boomer bust year for the Rams.
The guys that they brought in have they brought him
in on you know, one year deals or their contracts
are coming up in a year or two, and they
brought in a lot of these big personalities. Part of
the reason they've done that and brought in these expensive
players on these one year deals is because they acknowledge

(01:23:44):
that the one that's really going to sink them financially
is if they have to extend Jared Goff after his
rookie deal. So while you have him on his rookie deal,
now you go and you splurge on some of these
other players. Similar to Russell Wilson in Seattle when they
went out and paid and extended Richard Sherman and all
that they could do that once when Russell Wilson was

(01:24:05):
on his rookie deal. Once they had to pay Russell Wilson,
you couldn't really have that sort of leverage to to
pay everybody else. So that's why teams like the Rams
try and maximize the rookie deal for the quarterback and
bringing talent around them and overpay for that while that
quarterback is still making the lower rate that they're making current.
If you're the Rams and in a couple of years,
you're gonna have to pay Jared Goff, who's only wrapped

(01:24:27):
up his second year, was a first round pick, so
you'll have a fifth year option, but that option will
be worth a significant amount of money. So you've got
these next couple of years of the amount of discount
Jonas even if if if the Rams were okay, if
the Rams were decent, I think if I and this
is just just the guests and just a sense of
what I've seen, I don't think golf would be in

(01:24:50):
the conversation of car Stafford and Cousins where they are.
They are considered the franchise quarterback. I know Jared Goff is,
but I think more of what the Rams successes is
Todd Gurley and and I think that you didn't have

(01:25:11):
that with those quarterbacks. So as that you're looking at it,
and you're right, you're gonna have to pay no matter what.
But I think the Rams, if they were to do
a deal, is we try to really go ahead and
you're trying to look look at contracts. I think they
try to offer him sort of an Alex Smith sort
of deal where you get you give him what maybe
the going rate is, but you can't make him the

(01:25:31):
highest paid quarterback in the national football especially if I
mean he's gonna be good. But I still think that
that team like runs through through Todd Gurley and so
when you're talking about like like Stafford and car and
Cousins were really good situations because there wasn't a lot
on those teams for other teams to or other for

(01:25:52):
that team to hang their hat on, so they had
to be paid, so they got that high month. I'm
not sure if I'm not sure if Jamis Winston or
Jared Goff or Mark Mariota are going to get those
contraents well, and it's the split the difference rule in sports,
if you have a team that goes from a really
really bad year to a really really good year, are
they as bad as their worst or are they as

(01:26:14):
good as their best? And usually split the difference. That's
why you know, we're talking about the Cowboys with this
Jason went and stuff and him retiring and the Cowboys
and whether or not they've been a disappointment. A couple
of years ago, the Cowboys were four and twelve. The
next year they were thirteen and three. So you acknowledge,
all right, well they weren't really as bad as four
and twelve and they weren't as good as thirteen and three,

(01:26:35):
so you kind of split the difference and you put
them in about nine wins, and sure enough, last year
they were nine and seven. If Jared Goffs probably not
as bad as his rookie year, and maybe he's not
as good as his second year, you split the difference.
And when you split the difference, that's not thirty million
dollars a year. So that's that's why they are pursuing

(01:26:58):
these the and taking a chance these big contracts, and
that's why less Sneed has been as aggressive as he's
been and you see all the pieces around Jared Goff.
I mean, they had to bring in a new coach,
a coach that could work with Jared Goff. They they've
already made a lot of concessions for him to try
and make it work because of the price they paid
number one overall. But they're not gonna pay an extra

(01:27:20):
price when his contract comes up unless he produces again.
You know, in the Seahawks when they made those deals
of of of extending Camp Chancer and extending Richard Sherman
and Michael Bennett, they're actually four year deals. Like when
they when they brought in Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril
as free agents early on, they were on shorter deals,
but they also didn't give them seven year contracts. So

(01:27:41):
it's funny like Cam Chancellor played through one of his
good contracts. Richard Sherman, you know, was playing, ended up
getting his his deal that he wanted. But they they
weren't making them albatross is in the sense of that
they were going to be just handcuffed with what they
could do. Plus in addition to having to play to
pay Russell Wilson, so and the Seahawks ended up having

(01:28:03):
to take a lot from there. Really, the defensive line
in the middle was where they were really hurt. Offensive line, yeah,
was a spot, but when you actually look at what
the Seahawks tried to do in the draft on the
offensive line. Sure, they were maybe putting an undrafted guy
at left tackle and hoping that that he would selve things.
But they did try to invest some of their you know,

(01:28:24):
capital in first and second round picks on offensive line.
But it's got to come from somewhere. And so when
you're yeah, you're right with the Rams, not only are
you gonna have to pay you know, you can't pay everybody, No,
you gotta pay Todd Gurley, and you gotta pay You're
gonna have to pay both of those, both Donald and Girly,
top line money because they are are I mean, Donald

(01:28:45):
is the best at his position. Todd Gurley, if he
has another season like he did last year, will probably
be the best at his position as well. So you're
gonna have to pay those guys top dollar. And then again,
and this turned into Rams talk because it's it's an exam.
But looking down the road, like this contract, Matt Ryan's
contract is going to dictate terms of other contracts to

(01:29:06):
come afterwards. That's why this stuff is. It's the old
Al Davis Tommy Kelly move that that piste off so
many executives around the NFL. When Tommy Kelly was a
defensive tackle came up for free agency, al Davis way
over he overpaid by a lot, and people around the
league were piste off, and the thought was that was
Al Davis sticking it to the rest of the NFL

(01:29:28):
like he's done, like he did so many times in
his career, because he wanted to increase the average price
tag for defensive tackle. So now other teams are gonna
have to overpay because look what Al Davis gave Tommy Kelly.
So when you see a quarterback at one of these deals,
it's noteworthy because the next one up is Aaron Rodgers.
He's gonna want more and he should get more. And

(01:29:50):
then when it's Goffs turn or Whence or some of
these other younger quarterbacks, teams are going to have to
make decisions. When when the Seahawks had to pay Russell Wilson,
like what suffered the trenches right, the offensive line was
was not the same thing defense. The gut of their
defense is actually where it was really really, you know, hurt.
They had the highest paid offensive line when they won

(01:30:11):
the Super Bowl against Denver. People don't realize that. Then
they traded Max Anger. Russell o'cuon left in free agency.
But yeah, and the Trenjans, Yeah it hurts. And that's
why like the the NFL almost and I know in
the NBA they'll make with with shoe deals and there's
so much other money you can make on the outside.
But the NFL is all about what did so and
so get and can I get more? And what do

(01:30:32):
you deserve more? And so it's it's when contracts like
this happen, I just wonder what the commentary is around
the lake. Aaron Rodgers has got to be kicking his
feet up, going, oh, thank you, because now I'm gonna
really get paid. Yeah, he'll get I think he could
get thirty five million a year. It's not going to
be I just topped Matt Ryan. It's going to be
all right, let's get some let's get some breathing room.

(01:30:54):
But it also that goes to the fact too when
you see teams last weekend who took a quarterback number one,
like the Browns, or you see the Jets taking Sam
Donald third overall of their win now aspect, just because
of how quickly those four rookie years can go by.
I mean, the Rams are probably kicking themselves and saying, geez,
why do we have Jeff Fisher when you know we

(01:31:15):
could have maybe have turned things around so quickly and
had another year to win. Because now, really you've got
just a couple of years before Jared Goffin is going
to have to be paid. You see teams like the
Browns and Jets now with those young quarterbacks, and all right,
maybe it is time to win now, which is why
you hate Julio Jones. Dan buy If you're just tuning
into the show, Dan Buyer does not like Julio Jones.

(01:31:37):
That is not and I can I don't know, I
don't know what. No, no, no, that's not at all.
I'm just saying I don't think he is in the
future plans of the Atlanta Falcons, and I think that
what we have seen and if you just watch them
play and you really realize how they win football games,
it's not because of Julio Jones. And I think the

(01:31:58):
front office realizes that Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in for
Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio. You can get
Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox. You can
get me at the Jonas Knocks. Also a reminder the

there's a Twitter handle out at John Ramo Show, right,

(01:32:20):
and the following has been crazy, right, I mean it's
it's been it's been a whirlwind over these last twenty
four hours of just seeing the following and how everyone
has developed. It has been crazy. Yeah, And John Ramos
twenty minutes from now we'll have another edition of the
John Ramo Show. He's got his new Twitter account out.

(01:32:41):
It's now do we know for so it's at John
Ramo Show. That's the name of the Twitter account is correct,
John Ramos Show. And it's been flooded with follows because
it started out the show with a hundred and eleven
people following the account. It's now one nineteen. So clearly
we're picking up on pace like three and a quarter
an hour. I believe I'm not mistaken of my math

(01:33:01):
is correct there, so hopefully we can get a little
bit of traction there. But um coming up next year
on Fox Sports Radio, somebody on this show yesterday made
a lot of noise for the wrong reasons. We are
going to ask his former teammate his thoughts of some
complaints made on the show yesterday, and we'll do that

(01:33:24):

(01:34:33):
That is John Ramos, glad to have you with us again.
In less than an hour. Game two of the NBA
playoff series between the Cavaliers and Raptors will be played
in Toronto and then tonight eight Eastern time in Boston
Sixers and Celtics. I know John's getting ready for the
John Ramos Show, Jonas, But did you hear about like

(01:34:53):
what the city of the Raptors were doing because of
the early start time? What's that what they sent out
A le don't like a one of those funny letters, John?
Was that it that they sent out to like, hey,
let us out of work early, which I don't know
who it was from. I just saw it. It was
a letter saying, hey, let's get everybody together, let's Toronto,
Let's let's let's rise and come together. And to do

(01:35:15):
that can you let out the fans a little early
today for whatever, we can all get there on time. Yep,
the admit one permission to leave work early. Yes, this
is this is what you So let's leave work early.
It's also leave downtown, so it's not a mess. I
would assume that that's probably. I've never been to Toronto.

(01:35:37):
I don't know where Er Canada Center is, but I
would also think, like, yeah, just leave early so you
don't have to deal with game day traffic that's gonna
start a little bit earlier traffic. It's not there's a
maple leaves game to watch. Little a little dig to
the rib cage. Huh take that? Take that leaves right, Yeah,

(01:35:58):
just run into their rented to their sides, the gut punch.
It's not like the Blue Jays are worth watching or anything.
If the Raptors are down at halftime by double digits,
is it over. Yes? Yes. Even in the NBA, where
there's it's all about runs and you see these crazy

(01:36:21):
runs and teams will hit four three's in a row,
and you know, at ten point lead is only three
possessions or four possessions. I think that the Cavaliers would
see blood in the water, they would know that this
could Heck, Lebron's complaining about rest. What better way to
get rest than to sweep through Toronto. So I'm thinking
that he is like, all right, we put the pedal

(01:36:43):
to the metal here we we we win both games
in Toronto. If it's at the half, yeah, I think.
I think at that point then it's it's over. Do
you think Lebron takes it as a personal slight that
he's not the primetime game and Celtic sixers is you know?
He does? Come on, so Bron James, he's not getting
the primetime spot. He's playing it. Listen to This is

(01:37:04):
Lebron James's life right now. For his fans in Hawaii,
you'll get to see Lebron play at lunch in a
playoff game. While you're on your lunch break, okay, drinking
along board and having a fish taco. Lebron James is
playing in a playoff game during your lunch break. Do

(01:37:25):
you know that in Hawaii instead of day baseball, they
have don baseball. It's if it's a new Eastern Times start.
It's like, hey, let's let's wake up and watch the
uh the Tribe and Blue Jays play. That's what you
get when you got a lot of different time zones.
Baseball great one going on right now between the Yankees
and Astros. Let's talk some baseball. Is the one and

(01:37:48):
only host of Intentional Talk on the MLB Network with
Chris Rose and World Series champ. Kevin Millard joins his
thanks to seek. Kevin, thanks so much for the time today, boys.
Thanks for having me. I appreciate it is. I'm gonna
I'm not even gonna start out with baseball. What you
and Chris Rose do on MLB Network is amazing, And
as a broadcaster, we know how difficult it can be

(01:38:09):
to put on a show with someone else that is
not in the same studio. How you guys do it
on TV? First of all, it's just a compliment because
it's so flawless. But were there any hiccups early on
and doing I just find it amazing how you guys
can pull off a show like that and not be
in the same space. It's truly amazing. Yes, it was hiccups.

(01:38:30):
I get playing all of a sudden, we're like, yeah,
we'd like to try a new show here Intentional Talking,
Like okay, and where's the earpiece? And Uh, what do
I do from here? And then we did it from home,
So now you're sitting in the garage with with the
camera and heck, I went to l A City and
Lamar University, so you're not talking our roades, scholar. Thank
goodness for roll help me out big time. And uh,

(01:38:52):
you know what, We've had a lot of fun. And
once you start the brand and the trust with the players,
it's been a blast. Because our show if you can't
laugh yourself, and it's not the show for you. So
once players know that they can sit here ragging each
other and ragging other teammates teammates, it's really been fun
that way. And we don't care if you're hitting four's
just come on and have some fun for about eight
or nine months and let's do it. Kevin Millar with

(01:39:14):
us here on Fox Sports Radio. Kevin, I want to
ask you this because we had your former teammate Johnny
Damon on the show yesterday and he just recently had
been eliminated off Dancing with the Stars, and we did
not expect this sort of reaction to being eliminated off
Dancing with the Stars. I want to play it back
for you and you tell me if this is the
Johnny Damon you remember, this was good to get getting

(01:39:37):
me out there. I actually thought we should have advanced,
but you know, they're they're trying to run a TV show.
It's and it's a great TV show. But there was
so much more that America and the world could have
seen from me. But you know, they're the ones that
losing out right now because we we had such a

(01:39:59):
great dance for week two. Are you surprised he had
that much of a red ass about getting eliminated off
Dancing at the Stars. You know what, We had him
on our podcast that that Monday night before. Uh you know,
we taped the podcast that Monday before. He was dancing
that day and I'll tell you his whole thing was
we we want to try to win this. And he

(01:40:20):
told me strip because I wanted to vote for me,
get this out there, but only vote for me if
you believe in me. And I'll tell you what, that's
the toughest thing to do once we're out of our element.
But yeah, he was upset because he felt that, you know,
we had our first two dances the first two weeks,
but I gotta get by this week one and uh,
you know, Emma. His dance partner is awesome, and that

(01:40:40):
was Michael Waltrip's partner a couple of years ago, and
we're all friends of Mike, So it was one of
those things. It was a bummer. They voted two guys,
you know, two couples off, and I felt terribul for him.
I really did. I was like, man, all that little
hard work and he's walking off, and uh, there there
is more. Let listen. It's it's it's it's a great show.
Uh to you know, depend on where you kind of dance,

(01:41:02):
because then you only think about if you're Josh Norman.
I mean, did he moved on? But he only got
like ten minutes to vote for him. If you're you know,
if you're dancing, dance, so it's kind of like if
you dance first, you've got more time for votes and stuff.
And but it was cool. I'm sure he had a
great experience, and yeah, it's probably a bouma. Voting closed
as soon as the music stopped for his dance. So
so Johnny Damon was screwed. Kevin are joining us here

(01:41:23):
on Fox Sports Radio on the Doug Gottlieb Show. He's
Jonas Knocks I'm Dan Buyer. Astros and Yankees are playing
a series, just wrapping up their their four games set,
and this is I mean, this is the series we
knew a lot to expect from from the Astros, obviously
being World Series champs. Are you surprised that things have
gone I guess so well for the Yankees? Maybe so
early in the season, even with the the the adjustment

(01:41:46):
period with John Carlos Stanton and not maybe getting on
tracks as soon as they would have hooped. Yeah. You
know what's funny is that this game, I mean, we
play so many games in a year and it really
and everything, everything in the beginning is so magnified. Right
if you go to for you know, you see that scoreboard,
seeing a hundred out there and you're like, oh my goodness,
or start up a little slow. We know the Yankees

(01:42:08):
didn't get up to a great start, but you know
that the damage they have in that line up, and
with or withoutstanding, they were good last year, the last
six weeks a year I thought they turned into the
best club in the big leagues coming down the postseason,
and they asked he did a great job of eliminating them,
And you know, you think this guy to understand this
is the Yankees. They're they're different than what we've seen,
the old guys, veteran guys, the Paul O'Neills, the statos

(01:42:31):
that Bernie Williams, the Jeters. They have a lot of
young energy now. And I'll tell you being around him
and I we did the show on the field on Tuesday,
being around him, just a lot of young studs. They're
all big and strong and handsome, and Judge, you couldn't
have been a nicer human being in your life. And
he's just using attorney. He's made offensively. But that that
astill starting pitching, Holy Cannoli, and you saw some good

(01:42:52):
baseball those first few games, and uh, you know, tip
your hats the Yankees. These two teams are beasts, and uh,
Severn Renos really turned the corner, you know for the Yankees,
you know, with the game making through the last night.
Also Kevin Millar, MLB network host of Intentional Talk, also
World Series Series Champion with US year on Fox Sports Radio.
UM So, I know there's a hundred and thirty games

(01:43:15):
left and I don't want to overreact to what is
happening with the Dodgers, but it feels like an injury here.
Now Reused got the injury. He's gonna be out until
I'm hearing the second half of the season. Corey Seeker
with the Tommy John surgery. Bellinger got bench for not hustling.
What was the earliest into a season as a player

(01:43:35):
that you felt like you guys were just snake bit
like it wasn't it wasn't gonna be your year. This
is too early to feel that. I think when you
kind of go through the All Star break and you
get halfway in the season and you kind of look
at it. Now, look at the No. Four. We were
about five when we won the World Series of the
Red Sox, and so you know, there's a there's just

(01:43:55):
like you saw the Cubs last year. They didn't play
well at all the first half, second half they went
out one whatever, it was twenty something. So there's just
two halfs of the season. But I would say I'm
not getting up on the Dodgers. Finding means that they
have not sowing the beast. Well. They start out with
without Justin Turner, they lose Corey Sea Cigarette, everybody you
know puts all the pressure on Clake Kershaw. But the

(01:44:15):
one thing about Dave Roberts and being his teammate and
known him, he's got a calmness about him. They have
a great staff, they have a ton of money, They
have a great front office. Was Freeman and all those
boys up there. So they'll figure this out. They just
have not played well in Arizona is better this first month.
They're very complete team who also have gone through injuries.
You know, let's Taiwan Walker and Robbie Ray and Jacob

(01:44:36):
Lam and then you know, you look at SUSA early on,
so every team battles the injury seeing it's just about
being deep and who can overta But I'm not getting
up on the doctor's finding means. But they just they
need to start kicking it in gear. At some point,

(01:44:58):
lot of waves were made when we find about the
stat that for the first time ever, there were more
strikeouts than hits in a Major League Baseball month. Does
that concern you as a former player. Seeing that sort
of number, it does it concerns me that players don't
care about striking out anymore. You know, it's all about
hitting home runs and getting paid. Which I understand all
that stuff, but what bothers me is that cat and

(01:45:20):
mouse game when you step in the batter's bots and
you versus the picture it was when you want to
dig in and let's go. If you popped up the
first base or strike out, it's the same thing, but
it's not the same thing. You know, he got me.
And when you when you know, when you're only two
of these days, you see players they're swinging like it's
that you seem uh four seemed basketball down the middle,
like there's no more of that battle. And and there's

(01:45:41):
players are so strong and so like, you know, the
bigger and stronger and doing their thing. But I just
I just think that the hitters, at the end of
the day, where's the Wade Boggs and the Tony Gwin's
and the high average and choking up and taking the
ball left field or whatever it is to getting the
hitters count and then you know, go from there. That's
disturbing the average just down to forty the average are

(01:46:02):
usually is about two sixty in the big leagues, but
we've had a ton of strikeouts and obviously more than hits,
and uh, it's kind of like where where we're at
with all this launch angles and on the lift up
on the ball, and we have so many numbers, but
we're losing that gut feeling of the game. And so
I just hope that you know this is uh, this
is uh, you know, going to change at some point.
I'm gonna I'm just gonna wrap it up with this,

(01:46:23):
and I want to get your thoughts on my opinion.
While we are getting all of these home runs and
we mentioned that the strikeouts are up, I do think
something has to be said. And I know it's a
different way from when you played, but we're now concerned.
We are interested as a fan in the strikeout. And
I used two examples. James Paxton last night for the
Mariners struck out sixteen follow a lot of people from Seattle.

(01:46:46):
They were drawn into that game against the Oakland A's
in May. I think that's a good thing. Josh Hater
of the Milwaukee Brewers isn't even their closer and is
is now must watch TV. So while I understand like
the opinion of it, Kevin, of people being like, man,
there's just way too many strikeouts. I actually think it's
brought in a different sort of aspect that fans can
gravitate too, of actually wanting to watch certain pictures. And

(01:47:10):
I just have a tough time thinking that that's a
bad thing. No, you make a great point. At the
end of the day, it's entertainment and when you know,
you bring up a point like Joss Hayter, I mean,
this is like a poor man's Chris Sale, as footy
as there is. And the game's all power now, like
the velocity. There's no more Greg Maddox, Tommy Glavin's. You know,
where's the Jamie Moyers. It. It's like now it's about power.

(01:47:32):
And you know, we got Charlie Morton in the five
holes and there in Houston throwing night on our bowling balls,
and you've got guys coming out. You know, this kid
Montgomery leaves the game Tuesday for the Yankees and they
bringing Harman who's throwing ninety seven miles and out of
four straight games. So everybody that comes out of bullpen
now and everybody that comes out, you know, it seems
like start, it's all about velocity and they don't want
to the lion three times and then it's all about

(01:47:53):
the bullpen switch. But we saw the Royals won the
World Series in fourteen fifteen, and you know when they
started that whole six seventh day to night, everybody's throwing
a hard miles an hour and then you've got to
Greg Holland. So the game is shifting right, good or bad.
The rule changes at second base and rule changes at
home play. They're trying to speed up the game. We've
got a certain amount of time when you go up

(01:48:13):
to the picture amount. But you know you're right, you
make a great point strikeouts. You can start watching Austin Paxton,
he's got you know, four team plus strikeouts. You're you're
you're glued to the TV so you can look at anyway.
I just know there is a lot of there are
a lot of swings and missus and I know that.
You know, as a former Big leaguer, you know that's
what you do. You have hand eye coordination, and it's

(01:48:33):
it's the swing and misses. It's just an approach. It's
just given in a little bit with two strikes or
you know, no one have an idea of sitting on
a certain pitch. I know you're no longer a major leaguer,
but you have a new teammate and seat Geek. How
did you hook up with them? Awesome app? Man, I'll
tell you right now. You download this app. It's great
for concerts coming in town. You want tickets to hockey playoffs,
to the baseball games, the football games. What I love

(01:48:55):
about is it tells you if you're getting a good
deal or a bad deal, and you kind of have
a picture of where your seats are. And uh, it's
just a it's it's an awesome app to dues and I,
like I said in Austin, Texas, I live and you've
got Willie Nelson's coming in thirteen to kh May sixteenth,
and it's it's a great app to have. You don't
have to get it. And we'll give you twenty bucks
off your first purchase if you put in the promo
code Millar Yeah M I L L A R. If

(01:49:17):
you don't know, it's twenty bucks off on your first
seat Geek purchase. Kevin, thanks so much, continue to watch
you on Intentional Talk. We appreciate it, and let's do
it again. Soon, boys, appreciate you having me. Thank you,
Kevin Millar from a World Series champ, Dan Buyer Jonas
knocking for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming
up next, it is the moment you've all been waiting for,
The John Ramo Show, the hottest. Well today, it'll be

(01:49:40):
the hottest four minutes in the history of sports talk radio.
Find out the latest on The John Ramo Show next.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports. Elsewhere,
it's Steve Carson. Game two of the Raptors Cavaliers series
tips off at the top of the hour, six Eastern
from Toronto. Cleveland up one zip in the series, and
normally it's the players having to be warned about their

(01:50:00):
pas queues and four letter words, but the NBA is
having to warn Raptors fan and ambassador Drake about the
bad language he used toward Cleveland's Kendrick Perkins during Tuesday's
Game one. NBA Executive VP of Basketball Ops Kikey Vandaway
also discussed the matter with Messiah Ugeri. According to USA
Today Sports NFL News, the Falcons have made Matt Ryan

(01:50:23):
the first thirty million dollar a year quarterback agreeing to
a five year, one hundred fifty million dollar extension, including
a hundred mill guaranteed for Ryan Cowboys tied end. Jason
Witten is retiring after fifteen years in the NFL. He's
joining Monday Night Football as an analyst. And the Jets
clearing some space after taking Sam Donald at number three overall,

(01:50:44):
they now only have four or four quarterbacks on their roster.
They released their twift fourth round pick, quarterback Bryce Petty,
so they've got Donald, incumbent starter Josh McCallen, free agent
edition Teddy Bridgewater, and twenty sixteen second round pick Christian
Hackenburg is still on the austar. That's a petty move
by the Jets today. Thanks. Thanks. This is the Doug

(01:51:07):
Gottlieb Show. Of course, the Baylor alum disagrees with it.
He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer. This is the Doug
Gottlieb Show, and it's that time doesn't get any better
than this. I think it's the John Ramo Show. It's
the John Ramo Show. Ramo Show, this is the John

(01:51:29):
Romino Sports on Box Radio. Here's John Ramos. He says
exactly what Suzanne tells him to say shut up. Yeah,
all right, break, come on, get up, let's do this.
Goad even everybody. We have a great show for you tonight.
It's a trash Thursday. And make sure to always use

(01:51:52):
the hashtag the John Ramo Show and tonight show. I
want you to tell me how you celebrated trash Thursday.
Looks like the Houston Rocket Tomighty celebrated. They're trash Thursday
a day early. Also, today's National Lumpy Rug Day, one
of my favorites. Jonas, do you have a lumpy rug?
Later on in the show, I'll give you my lumpy
rug poper rankings. As always, I have my sidekick Ryan

(01:52:13):
here with you. Ryan, what's up? John's so good to
be here with you. Yes, it is wonderful. Hey, did
you see what Charles Barthley said about Draymond Green? Yeah,
he said he wants to punch him in the face. Yeah,
it's crazy, but I have a lot of respect for
Charles after he said that, why is that? Well? I
wanted to punch you in the face for years, but
I haven't had the guts to tell you. Should the

(01:52:38):
NFL let players use cocaine? I'll tell you. Next to
the John Rogals, show. Part of this nutrition Do you
like cocaine? Have you cocaine? I think I'm high listening
to these commercials. That was smooth. That was smooth commercial.

(01:53:03):
Everybody given up for Bruce Breakstan The boss is in
the house. Who are you bossing around these days? We'll
cover that in our in depth interview coming up later
on in the show. Also, don't forget about tonight's poll question,
who does Jason wenton, look like I have some surprising answers.
Here's a hint Tony Romo didn't make that list. But

(01:53:24):
right now it's time for a brand new segment on
The John Rommel's Show. It's starting for fraud, nonsense, smoke, streater, misdirection.
All right, let's start with Dan Lebron. James has already
told people close to him that he is leaving Cleveland

(01:53:46):
at the end of the next seasons. Fire alarm, that's
a fraud. Oh, that's the one that we have thoughts.

(01:54:06):
Steph Curry is worried. Kevin Durant has taken over as
the leader of the Golden State Warriors. You know, John,
In honor of our pothead friends listening, I'm gonna say
that's a smoke screen. He's a boat leaving. That's misdirection.
Jonas Cod damnit, let's move on a deb Carson dav

(01:54:29):
Tom Brady is going to retire before the start of
season because he hates the Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Definitely nonsense.
Oh that's a fraud, dab Claud. It sounds like Robocopa

(01:54:49):
last Ryan Music, Ryan, the Browns were thinking about training
Baker Mayfield. That's definitely misdirection. John. I don't even think
that's a smoke screen. Ryan, you should have known better.
Should major League Baseball all out five outs instead of three?
Find out? Next on The John Romo Show, why are

(01:55:18):
these commercials so low? Um? Sorry the Boss? Sorry Dan,
Let's hear it for the Boss, Bruce Frankstons. The Boss
is here, ladies and gentlemen. I'm really looking forward to
it in depth interview later on. Don't forget there's still
plenty of time for that. You to vote on that

(01:55:39):
tonight's pool question, and of course make sure to use
the hashtag The John Ramo Show. Also coming up a
John Ramo Show exclusive everyone, Where will Lebron James play
next year? I have some inside sources and the answer
will leave you well speechless. But now it's time to
take a step onto the observation deck. Yeah, Max Weinberg,

(01:56:01):
the Dodgers. Something's not right by me about a little beer.
Digital shows, what are they really? Matt Ryan, someone's about
to go shopping. Julio Jones. Someone's not happy. Jason Witten.

(01:56:24):
It's all over, but then again, it's just beginning. Fence guy,
Dak Prescott. It's now on you, buddy. NBA Playoffs three
pm start time. Sorry, I'm busy for the West Coast Raptors.
Tonight's a big one. Baker Mayfield in Cleveland, Now that's

(01:56:46):
gonna be interesting. The Washington Redskins, they've got some problems.
Matt Harvey. Hey, it looks like the Joker one Infinity
will or Fanos floor iron Man. Okay, that's all the
time we have for tonight. A big thanks to everyone

(01:57:08):
who tweeted and using the hashtag the John Rommels Show.
Also thanks to the Boss Bruce Springsteen for being a
tonight's special musical guest. Sorry, Boss, we'll have to get
to you next time with our interview, and Ryan, I'll
catch you on your backside. Um post show press conference, Um,

(01:57:31):
John Well the entity war from the observation deck. Why
wasn't Golden Sorcerer mentioned? You know, that's a great question,
but I think it all can be answered when you
hashtag the John roml Show. Is by the is aluminum face?
Is that a character in Avengers? What about Man? That

(01:57:55):
was another one? Um, you know, believe it or not, Dan,
This has been brought to you by True Car Car

and invoice. True Car shows what other people paid for
the car you want to. You can recognize a good

(01:58:16):
What a great John Ramo. So it was absolutely all right.
So coming up next here on Fox Sports Radio, we
have got a developing situation in sports. One of the
top franchises in all of sports has made a major
move at the top. Find out what we're talking about
next year on Fox Sports Radio. This is the I'm

(01:58:37):
Dan Buyer. That's Jonas Knocks. We are in for Doug today,
as is John Ramos, and we're gonna get you the
latest stories in the world of sports. But first we
have the latest in breaking from the NBA. Breaking news
from Fox Sports Carson, what's going on in the association.

(01:58:57):
Then breaking news in New York Knicks have reported he
found their man, Nick's reportedly hiring David Fizdale as their
next head coach. That courtesy of Adrian wr Zanowski. So
David Fizdale headed a big apple. Doug said this on
this program earlier this week. He thought it would be
Fizdale for the next job, Doug saying, because of Fizdale's

(01:59:18):
relationship with Lebron James, maybe you shouldn't rule out a
Lebron to New York connection coming up this soft season. Well,
that's why I've always said, Dan, It's all about relationships.
That's exactly. It is all about relationships. That's all I got.
Let's get to the press, the press. I am, by

(01:59:39):
the way, um glad to hear the news because now
Mike Budenholzer can go to the Bucks and coach them
that that's fine with me. That's very selfish. If hey,
Deb Carson has what is going on in the world
of sports? Speaking of relationships, the Falcons, like there's with
Matt Ryan Atlanta keeping the quarterback around, agreeing to a
five year, one fifty billion dollar extension with Matt Ryan

(02:00:01):
one d mill guarantee. The extension makes Ryan the NFL's
first thirty million dollar a year quarterback. I saw the
Falcon sin on a tweet saying fire in ice. Yeah, yeah,
all right, now he could just burn money. He's got
enough of it, all right, Well, Ryan's sticking around. Whitton

(02:00:24):
is not the Cowboys Titan. Jason Whitton announcing his retirement
after fifteen years in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys fans
around the world for fifteen years, I try to represent
you the right way, bring your joy and when you're
a championship. While I leave today falling short of that mark,
I hope that along the way, I'm major proud to
be a Dallas Cowboys fan. And that he did. He

(02:00:46):
leaves the league to join Monday Night Football as an analyst.
He's the Cowboys all time leader in receptions and receiving yards,
but touchdowns not even close to the top. Now that's
what was so surprising. Well, and you also think about us,
assume all these great wide receivers in in Dallas, and
then you actually look at the list and like Miles
Austin's in the top ten, Carol Owens is top ten,

(02:01:08):
and a few categories for all time receivers. So Jason
Witten's got the Marcus catches and yards touchdowns, isn't it? Dez?
I think that is number one? Well. Coach Doug Peterson
earned a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles bank in February.
He now also has an extra year on his contract Philly,
picking up the option keeping Peterson in Philly through. He's

(02:01:30):
also got a memoir coming out, true story two years,
two years as a head coach in the NFL one
Super Bowl win, and now as a memoir coming up,
and and just think about how different things could be
if Philly got the guy they originally run it, Chuck Pogano,
That's who they originally wanted, but because he went back
to Indianapolis, they settled for Peterson. By the way, with

(02:01:52):
that new book promo code Doug. Okay, but you think
people are actually gonna try and punch that in, it's
not out yet, don't worry about it. And Game two
of the Raptors Calves tipping off in just a few minutes,
seven minutes. NBA is warning Raptors fan Drake about bad
language he used towards Cleveland's Kendrick Perkins during Tuesday's Game one.

(02:02:13):
Kike Vanderway at the NBA talked to Messiah Jeri about
the matter as well, so Drake asked to watch his language.
Drake just sang or wrapped it, and then yeah, get
back to the locker room. Getting back to the locker
room room. That was the press. Double dose tonight Jonas

(02:02:38):
Raptors Calves as deb said, coming up in just a
matter of minutes, and then Sixers and Celtics tonight from Boston.
People have been waiting for our picks, Dan, they have
wanted There's people at a betting window in Vegas right now.
They've got cigarette burns all over their body. They've been
waiting for so long, and they want our picks for
the NBA playoff games tonight, Dan, Are you ready to

(02:02:59):
give him the winners? Are you ready? I am ready
to go. Here we go, baby on the first of
all place. Cavs is to thirteen
