I hope you make today an absolutely special special day.
All Right, you know, tonight's Thursday Night Football. We'll have
Jason Stewart and Dan Byer gonna hop on with us
(00:50):
a little bit later on the show live from Buffalo.
But I think there's there's a bigger story here and
it revolves around the quarterbacks, right, and you have two
quarterbacks who Josh Allen, who kind of rose up from
(01:10):
nowhere in terms of obviously football people knew who he was,
but he was lightly recruited and then when he got
ready for the NFL Draft, Now all of a sudden
people were and throughout that year, people were making comments
about a guy they did not have a ton of
knowledge of. To a tongue of I, Loo is different,
incredibly heavily recruited, remarkably well regarded, got hurt in college,
(01:35):
and has had an injury plagued up and down professional career.
But there's there is something that needs to be discussed,
and it's it's very difficult to discuss it because as
a player, I did not check all of the boxes
(01:56):
for what a high major point guard should be or
or maybe was more then than is now. And there's
a special affinity in I think all of our hearts
for people who don't check every box of what something's
supposed to look like, and yet they can still be
successful in the field. That's to a tongue of Iiloa right.
He's not terribly big, he's not terribly fast, he doesn't
(02:18):
have a super strong arm. He's sparked, but let's not
act like he's a rocket scientist. He's good at what
he does and there's a specific way in which the
Miami Dolphins have played that allows him to be successful.
Josh Allen's bigger, stronger, faster, and even to what Tua said,
there's just things he can do that Tua cannot do physically,
(02:41):
unable to do them, unable to do them. So where
does that leave us? That leaves us in this really
interesting place where we're going to watch the Bills take
on the Dolphins and a guy who people thought you
couldn't miss on with the exception of injury, and he
did come in the NFL with an injury, and that's Tua.
(03:02):
And the guy who people were very, very tepid with
in Josh Allen, who now everybody concedes this if he's
not the best quarterback in the NFL, he's one of
the top three. So we do this thing where we
think intangibles is everything, and intangibles are a lot. Right.
(03:26):
It's not like josh Allen doesn't have character, It's not
like Josh Allen isn't a leader. But what we've done
for however long, is think Tua has such intangibles that
it can carry him past his physical limitations. It doesn't
mean that Josh Allen has learned some of these things, right.
(03:48):
Stefan Diggs and him it was an on again, off
again hot and cold relationship and when they move digs
out that officially became Josh Allen's team, and the team's
the better because of it. The bigger part is we
have a tendency to diminish physical traits sometimes we do.
We have a because you know, Joe Montana didn't have
(04:12):
the greatest physical traits, didn't have the greatest arm, could run,
but wasn't super fast, but he was just really, really
good and really smarter football. You can say that about
many positions. Jerry Rice is great. Jerry Rice is not
close to the fastest or quickest wide receiver ever. He's
just the best wide receiver ever. And so oftentimes when
(04:34):
we get ready for the combine, you know, we're so
weary of guys that are physical freaks that came out
of nowhere. But there is something to the physical traits
that it takes to play in the Nation Football League,
in the NBA, in Major League Baseball. I recommended to
my son the book Freakonomics you has ever read for
(04:54):
economics and freakonomics. There's a lot of different parts to it,
but one part is basically, you know, everything you do
or everything that happens to you in your life puts
you in a greater or worse position statistically to be
successful or to be financially destitute. Right, if you don't
go to college, if your parents you know, we're split up.
(05:16):
If you smoke, if you drink, if you do drugs,
if you you know all of these different things. If
you gamble, then you're more likely to be financially destitute. Right.
These are all kind of check marks of it. So
I bring it up because it doesn't mean that every big,
strong quarterback that can throw the football a mile and
(05:37):
that can run a four or five point forty is
worthy of being drafted. I mean, look Richardson with with
with the Indianapolis cults is the perfect example of that.
But there is something to the physical attributes are needed
(05:57):
in order to just do the job, and especially when
you talk about doing the job in outdoor air, in
natural conditions. Right. TUA has been up and down and
at times very good in Miami, but more so when
they're in Miami and when they're in a dome and
more stadiums. Buffalo's new stadiums, not one of them will
(06:18):
be in domes as we move forward, because you can
just make more money having the dome closed in winter months,
being able to do more. So, maybe the smaller quarterbacks.
Baker Mayfield is not huge, Kyler Murray's really small to
a tongue of Biolo is not tiny, but also not big,
not a crazy athlete. Maybe those guys will still have
(06:39):
homes in the NFL. But the percentage of quarterbacks that
don't have freaky athleticism or freaky size, or freaky strength
or a freaky ability to throw the ball with incredible
force and velocity, those guys are shrinking away. And what's
amazing about it is, you know, we talk about guys
(07:03):
the NFL missed on. This was a guy in Tua,
and again, I don't know how much better he would
be had he not gotten the concussions, you know, had
he not had some of the intries he's had as
an NFL player. I know he had that massive hip
injury when he was in college, but he did recover
and ultimately he's played and been fine because of it.
(07:26):
But he's a miss not as a quarterback. Like look,
as the first round pick. He's been fine, he's been good.
He's been very good in some instances. Do I think
ultimately the Dolphins will have to move on from him
in order to try and really take that next step
and be consistently successful. Yes, okay, but if you get
five six years out of a guy and he and
(07:46):
if he can stay healthy, it's a big gift. He's
been fine as a quarterback, probably slightly overpaid. He'll be
overpaid here in this second contract. He's not a complete bust.
He's not to get him out after a year. He's
not somebody who can't play the position. He's just not
as good as most people's presumption of what he would
be when he got to the NFL. You know, because
(08:10):
we got Jalen Hurts and he beat out Jalen Hurts,
how many NFL teams would have taken him ahead of
Justin Herbert. And yet Herbert is far away, far, and
away the better pro quarterback, not just because of injury,
but because of physical traits. So when you watch tonight,
know that it doesn't mean that the undersized, understrength, more
(08:35):
accuracy quarterback is completely dead. But there is a logical
reason why guys fall on the side of eh. He's bigger,
he's stronger, faster, he throws the football harder, it's more
likely to work. That's what freaking outous saying it's more
likely to be successful when you have those physical traits
and some of the character traits and some of the
(09:00):
character traits. That's the general belief system and it's proven
out over time. Walk up on an NFL quarterback, they're
way bigger, stronger, and also and that this goes with
the shador Sanders. Most of them are guys that everybody
loves and when you meet them, you're just drawn into them.
All of these things are general attbustess. It doesn't mean
(09:22):
you can't be your own person. You can't be a
quasi celeb, you can't have a cameraman following around and
a guy holding your bag. And you can try it,
but generally the guys that have been successful haven't done
it that way. And to us, struggles outside when they
get him off his first read, when they make it move,
(09:46):
those struggles are of a quarterback who is not crazy athletic,
is not that big and strong, doesn't have that strong
end arm. Thanks for listening to The Gottlieb Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Stug Gotleib show here on Foxsports Radio. Adam Kaplan joined
Jesse's our Fox Sports Radio NFL. Inside Else has the
Inside the Birds podcast. Adam, obviously being a guy who
does the Eagles podcast, you watch that game every stamp
of that game. Chiefs are missing their top two wide
receivers Kelsey aged. But assuming those top two wide receivers
(11:03):
come back healthy, what are your thoughts on the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Well, and also East tight end Dallas Godder didn't play,
but yeah, they're gonna be much better now. The question
is by the time both are back and Worthy may
play this week you're talk about Xavier Worthy, the second
year receiver first round from Texas, and then Racie Rice
after he serves the six game suspension. Yeah, look, Mahomes,
this is what I'm told With Mahomes, it's a little
(11:28):
bit of last year where holding on the ball, holding
the ball and not being decisive. And what you're going
to see this week against the Giants is I will
guarantee you they get the ball out of his hands quickly.
This is what Matt Nagio and Andy Reid have done
over the years. And he still calls the plays, but
one Mahomes is indecisive, they call shorter routes and they
get the ball out of his hands. Now, you're absolutely right,
(11:49):
Kelsey's not the same player. He's clearly near the end.
That's part of it. And they just don't have much
speed at receiver right now. That's why Tae Kwon Thornton,
who was a former second round receiver for the Patriots,
is playing a lot cause they just don't have anybody else.
Jujus Smister should just run well anymore. So that that's
not that's a problem. I don't Another part of this
is Doug Isay Pacheco. They're starting running back has not
(12:09):
been the same since he broke his leg last year,
and they just don't run it well and that's why
their offense is bogged down and their defenses had to
carry them.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Outside of that, Missus Lincoln was the show. Doug Gown.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Yeah, they got a lot of problems.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
H Doug got Liab show here on Fox Sports Radio tonight.
We're going to see the Dolphins take on the Bills.
How bad is it in Miami?
Speaker 3 (12:30):
It's not good? Look, it's not good. This is the
one where when I do when I put together my
notes for the season, I was like, this is this
team's going to be on watch because not a good roster.
They had no identity offensive line. They've Chris Greer, the
GM has never really built a quality offensive line. It's
always been a problem. There's always issues with their offensive line.
(12:51):
He said he's hit on some picks on both sides
of the football, but miss Badley on the offensive line.
And then how well to the players respond to Mike McDaniel.
Their defense does not look good the first two weeks,
really exciting game last week. Somehow they found a way
to lose that one. Now the Bills are without Matt Mulano,
their best linebacker and at Oliver the best defensive tackle.
That does mean something. But this defense of the Dolphins,
(13:14):
which over the years has been competitive, it just it's
not looked good. And this is a game that obviously
the Bill should have no problem winning. And look, you go,
oh in three. You know you've got less than two
percent chance since nineteen ninety to make the playoffs. So
they're gonna be questions around the league whether Mike McDaniel
will make it through the season. That's there's no question
about it. And after his hot start, there are a
(13:36):
lot of people are in the league have questioned what's
going on there?
Speaker 1 (13:40):
They rightfully should ask what's going on there? This is
the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. You know,
I haven't watched every snapper of the All twenty two.
I did watch some, and I thought there were signs
where Kayleb Williams was better. But you know, they got
ran out of the building in Detroit, and there were
some there were some things inaccuracies which he's really struggling.
(14:02):
What are people in Chicago really saying about their second
year of quarterback?
Speaker 3 (14:05):
So Basically, they know he's a work in progress. It's
going to take time. This is a Ben Johnson runs
more of a West Coast offense. It's not easy to learn.
This is completely different than what he had at USC.
It's a little similar to what he had last year
with the Bears. It's going to take time. And I
will tell you there are people on the league who
who watched that game last week who kind of know
(14:26):
what's going on. Felt that the lines ran the score up.
They were kind of surprised that the line starters were
in the game late. I mean, when they scored their
last point, the starters ran. I'm on Ross Saint Brown
scored the fifty he was response for the last touchdown
when they won fifty two to twenty one. I would
agree with that. Based on the people I spoke with,
they kind of they felt that the lines didn't have
(14:47):
to do that. And one coach told me that this
is interesting. He goes, listen, if you're Ben Johnson, you're
not going to forget this. He may not believe they did,
but when you're a big time should have pulled their
starters midway four the fourth quarter, and they did not,
and that that was interesting. So they're in the same division,
and I'm very interested what happens in the second time
(15:09):
they play in Chicago.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. That's the
voice of the one and only, I mean only Adam
Kaplan Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider. Another year, another two
and oh start for the Eagles. But you know, again,
the numbers aren't great, and so people are.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Like, well here they're killing them. Dug over all the offense,
the fans are out of, going out of their minds.
Go ahead, you're on the right plat.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Okay, So so what again, what's the real What do
the Eagles think of what they have?
Speaker 3 (15:41):
I believe they're concerned from the look it's only two games.
The first half of the first game, Dallas looked great.
Second half you remember that was the hour delay, the
lightning storm, so both Dallas and Phillies offenses bogged down,
and then a very conservative approach against the Chiefs. He
almost blew that game. As you know watching it. Their
defense has played very well. Their defense is really good
(16:03):
last week in Kansas City. But when you're paying aj
Brown what they're paying in Devonte Smith, now I know
Dallas Goddter was out, and that does mean something is
a really good today. And plus he really blocks well
for the run game. The underdiscussed part of their offense
so far, Doug is their their running game has not
been very good at all. And that's you know, they
have not been able to rely on the running game.
And that's that's part of why that. People are like, wow,
(16:26):
they're very lucky to be too, and no, that's really
the way the reality of it.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Okay, what about what about Indy?
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yeah all right, yeah, I'm all over that one. So
here's the thing they they now, that was ridiculous game
last week, great game, and what week one was kind
of boring. Last week was incredible. Daniel Jones has played
great football, you know, not to this degree. We've seen
him play well before. Then he implodes, Doug. The word
around the league and Daniel Jones is he typically implodes
because he makes bad decisions with football fumbles. It read,
(17:00):
he just does something that he shouldn't do and then
he winds up getting hurt. But he's looked great so far. Now,
both games were at home. It's a divisional game at Tennessee.
I know Tennessee is not very good but they got
to prove they can win outdoors. That's part of believe
it or not, that's part of winning in the national
football If you go out in different conditions, can you
win where you have to travel? Go outdoors? Their defense
(17:21):
is played respectable football. But yeah, oh my top three surprises,
they're definitely one of them. There's no good part. Maybe
the top one. But again they've only played two games.
We have a small sample size. And look that division
because of what's happened to Houston one of my other surprises,
they look bad. The reality is right now that division
is completely up for grabs.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
The AFC South, it is completely up for grabs. And
I think Jonathan Taylor makes the Colts so much better. Yes,
makes Danny Dimes so much better. So much better? Are
how long until people are willing to buy into the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Well, look, there's a ton of respect for Jim Harball.
If you remember Brandon Staley, Anthony Lynn and other coach
head coaches, the blown leads in the fourth quarter and
they're not blown leads. That's the first thing. Now there
are questions around the league, Doug how good is really
their defense? Jesse Minter, who Harball brought over from Michigan
with them, who was his defense coordinator there, and he's
(18:22):
done a phenomenal job. The great scheme, great execution. They're
not very talent. They just lost Khalil Mack for a while,
Who's going to go to the Hall of Fame someday,
one of their best ed rushers. That's definitely a problem.
You know, It's one of these things, Doug. You look
at it and you go, how in the worldre they
winning with this cornerback group. But now this is a
huge game for them. Dever had a terrible loss last week,
one of those ones You're like, how did this happen?
(18:44):
Now the Chargers have to prove now that they could
continue this a divisional game against Denver, and that's another
division now, because what's happened with the Chiefs, Doug, that
is also up for grap It's pretty good, it really is.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
It's come completely up for I don't know, completely up
for grabs. I yeah, I mean Denver losing was a
surprise the Raiders. I do think that people give Geno
this pass because now he's become so likable, but he's
just that who he is. He's just okay, you know.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Gay manager. I mean, it's he's better on average, but
that's it.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Yeah, And and you're not going to win that division
with an average to better than average quarterback.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
You just plus there's not a lot of talent on
that team either. But no, but no, here's they play
hard though they're competitive now and last year they were not.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
That that's that's completely, completely, completely fair. Adam Kaplan is
our guest Jaguars. Right. Yeah, so you have a young
wide receiver who I mean, listen, everybody in Jacksonville is
talking about. Wait, you know, last year we had the
hopes that this guy was uh was going to be
(19:55):
such a major factor and then you know, now he's
really ducky out of any sort of contact in catching
the football. I'm talking about Brian Thomas. Yeah, Brian Thomas Junior.
What's going on there that suddenly now people are paying
attention to Brian Thomas stopping instead of going over the
middle out hit.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
That was a little weird. But let me just tell
you about Brian Thomas. Brian Thomas last year talking to
the Jaguars, he was so far ahead of schedule. They
they thought he was a project. You know, he's kind
of wiry not He's got good length, but he's just
not real strong. And he had a great season, phenomenal
rookie season. Now last week, their passing game is all
over the place. You know, they blew that game at Cincinnati.
(20:35):
I'm sure they would tell you that they thought they
should have won it. And give Jake Brown and credit,
who's a gun slinger. And we can get to that
the Bengals in a second. But yeah, look and Travis Hunter,
by the way, I'm gonna repeat what I said after
he was drafted. Eventually he'll only played one side of
the football. It's not sustainable. We're going to play offensive defense.
That's just not right. And the value to them is
way better, way better corner than his receiver. That's just
(20:59):
the reality of the To be clear, they've not made
a decision yet when this is going to happen, but
for the totality of his career, he's going to be
He's got to be one side or the other. Can't
be both, no question.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
But did they pick the wrong side.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Well, right now they think it's manageable for him playing
more at wide receiver. That's fine. Now, besides Brian Thomas,
they're not They've got Damy Brown and came over from Washington,
who they're paying decent coin for a short term contract.
He's more of a he'd be better as a backup,
you know Hunter on offense. Once Lawrence and Hunter get
(21:38):
on the same page, it could look really good like
they're going to be able to score points. But the
problem with the Jaguar for so many years is they're
not good enough defensively. They're just they were terrible last season.
They've been a little bit better this season, but overall
it's really I don't worry about their offense, by the way,
Travis Etianna's looked great after a bad season last year,
but their defense is the problem with them. But that
(21:58):
that game was another one anyone's game went down to
the wire, and I give Jake Brown and credit. I
know he turned it over, but he's gonna be a starter.
And realistically, by the way, we've probably seen the last
of Joe Burrow this season. That is an awful injury
he had that you can't come back before three months
with with with to ligaments in your in your toe,
It's it's tough. That turf the grade three turf toe
(22:20):
is really bad I've covered the century before. Now let's
say it's late Deceummer and they're still in it. That's
a different story. But realistically, uh, we've probably seen the
last of Burrow this season.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
That's crazy. It sucks.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
I mean, yeah, I feel bad for the Bengals and
you know they they look they're too and zero. This
is a fun game this week for the Bengals. We'll
see if they could keep it going. And uh, look
I didn't think they'd come back and win that. But
how about this one? The backup ball, it's it's uh,
it's brown and versus Carson Wentz in Minneapolis.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Yeah, do do the Bengals go out and add a quarterback?
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Well, they've added a couple. They've added a couple. So
Mike White who you know what, he looked pretty good
for a little bit with the Jets, but it did
work out for him in Miami Brett Rippon, who's the
nephew of Mark Rippin, and they signed another quarterback. So
but look, it's Browning. He's been there for a number
of years. He has been much better than people in
the league thought he would be. He was an undrafted
(23:16):
free agent, not much as thought of him it's done
a good job. He's a very aggressive throw and as
we saw last week, you got it. You You just
have to deal with the turnovers. I mean he did
throw three picks, but he brought them back to win it.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
You just have to deal turnovers. The number one determination.
Who wins it.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
I got a live with it Mann. He's very aggressive, like
you see, Doug. Here's the thing, there's there's a coach
a term called stinger. You don't want to take it away.
Not that he's Brett Farr, but he's super aggressive. And yeah,
the more you coach and the longer they go along. Here,
Zach Taylor calls the plays the head coach. I mean,
he knows, he knows that Kitty's been with him for
a while. But they're super loaded in offense. You know,
(23:53):
it's gonna sound crazy. I'm not really worried about him.
It's just their defense. Their defense was horrendous last season.
Al goll In, the former Miami and Temple head coach,
is their defensive coordinator doing a good job so far.
They're pretty competitive so far, and that's side of the football.
In the end, I mean, they're not gonna win the division.
Baltimore well be, but they do. They can hang in
for a wild card that in that AFC.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
All right, he's the one and only Adam Kaplan, Fox
Sports Radio, NFL Insider, Inside the Birds podcast. Download it,
listen to it wherever you listen to your pods. You're
the best cap. Thanks for joining us next week.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
I do want to talk about the Brady situations.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Well, let's talk about right, we have a little time.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
All right, Well, so, so I just want to tell
you that this is we don't have enough time to
really get in the weeds. But and I know you
did talking about I heard you, I heard you on
your show. I saw one of your videos on social media.
It seemed really poorly around the league. It's just the
rules are very clunky. You can't have both. There are
a lot of people who believe that, you know what,
(24:47):
if you want to be a broadcaster, that's fine. You know,
that's fine, but you should you should not be able
to do anything leading up to the game at all.
That that's really the way people see that I've spoken with,
he gets limited access. It's still clunky. There's a mistrust
on the situation. I could tell you from people I've
spoken with them I haven't spoken to fifteen people. I've
talked to three so far, but one high wrecking personnel
(25:07):
guy who actually reached out to me and wanted to
know what what other people thought. I said, it's not good.
And then this guy called. He actually called me from
the road and we talked about it. He said, it's
just ridiculous. And he said his team is not playing
the Raiders, but if they did, or or if now
he did, he is not sure if his team will
be having Brady's broadcasting with him. But he's look, he
(25:30):
goes this is he had no problem with Brady, think
he likes him personally, but he said he's talked to before,
but he just the people around the league dugged it
to move this along here. They just don't think that
this is kosher, so to speak. It's just kind of weird.
And I know that they've tried to limit his access,
but it's not comfortable that that's and he obviously you
saw him in the coaching booth on Monday night, which
(25:51):
is crazy. That was really wild in a suit. That
was wild.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Yeah, why is he wearing a suit? Why is in
the coach.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Coach?
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Why doesn't he put like you know, the pullover on
the Riders pullover. Yeah, in fact, why is any on
the bench helping call plays? You know he's he oversees
a lot like the real story, Doug. Just so you know,
he's heavily involved in everything that they do. And that's
the reality of it. And look, look, he really would
have been a Raider as a quarterback. Am I reporting
(26:21):
on this? It was Grood for some reason. I don't
know why. He didn't want him as a quarterback. Mark
Mark Davis wanted this to happen and it grew him back.
Then decided like it was it was going to work.
But the bottom line is it's definitely where We'll get
more into the weeds next week. I have more stuff
on it. But it's just not it's not people are
not comfortable with it. That's the bottom line.
Speaker 1 (26:43):

(27:04):
what up with you? Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio
coming to you from beautiful Green Bay, Wisconsin. Got a
big Thursday night, Thursday night football game for you. Got
traditional rivalry right in that traditional rival Bill's Dolphins. Good
(27:28):
right now? Sean Merriman will join us, and twenty five
minutes you'll here for Ben Johnson. We got the press.
We've got a good show for you. But this is
kind of cool. It's not kind of cool, it's really cool.
I what I love about our show is that we
have legitimate sports fans on our show. And while you
(27:49):
may say to yourself, like what do you mean, like
everybody who does sports radio is are a legitimate sports fan?
Like somewhat, you know, do you go to events? Do
you go to golf golf tournaments? Do you go to
baseball games? Do you go to NBA games? Do you
go to NFL? Do you go to college football games?
Do you go to those games? You know? Do you
(28:13):
go to those games or not? And if you just
passively watch on TV and make comments, it's really hard
to feel like, you know, it's hard to relate to
the people that are listening to you. I feel like
people that listen to our show are sports fans. That
(28:34):
doesn't mean you have to go to every game, but
you do go to gay games. But even when you don't,
it's like, we have to be able to touch the
people that we're talking about and the people that are
listening just to believe. And you would be surprised at
how few people in my position, in Dan Bayer's position
(28:55):
don't do that. Don't do that. So that Dan Byer course, Uh,
we've been together since I started Fox Sports Radio and
he's a gigantic sports fan, so he some somehow came
up with it. You know, I'd really like to go
to Orchard Park to see the Bills old stadium before
(29:16):
they knock it down and move into the new one.
And Jay Suh's like, you know what, I want to
do that, So they went together. Just can't wait again
on the road again, Buyer. How are you hanging since
(29:36):
that Red Eye?
Speaker 4 (29:38):
We are doing all right? Jay Stu is just out
of his slumber. I took a little bit of a
pregame nap and Doug we are ready to do this
tonight at Highmark stadium. We are ready to go.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
You're you're fired up for this? Okay, First, what's the
weather like?
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Beautiful Chamber of Commerce day, hemps in the high seventies, sunshine,
short sleeve shorts, the whole deal. Beautiful day to be
in Buffalo, in the Buffalo area. So no complaints whatsoever.
Safe to say weather will not be a factor tonight.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
Is it a George day?
Speaker 4 (30:22):
There may have been a pair of Georges at our
first wing stop of our trip.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
That we have seen went to wingstop.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
No, we went to a wing place called so the
wing place that we hit was actually for those that
may follow Barstool and Big Cat and their their travels
to Buffalo. They love a place called wing Nuts, and
wing Nuts is right next to the airport. So it
(30:54):
was perfect for us to hit wing Nuts immediately, Doug,
what I mean immediately? Jason? I walked in at like
ten fifty nine. Our plane landed at ten. We got
our rental car, we got the luggage, everything slid in
and we sat down and it's it's a day. And
you know this for living in Green Bay, everybody is
(31:14):
wearing your Bill's jersey, whether you're at work or just
getting ready for the game tonight. People are already wearing
their bills shirts, their Bill's clothes, so we were ready
to go right as it opened eleven o'clock. That down,
it was magnificent. But truly there are things that are hype, Doug,
but this is like to start off with that for
(31:35):
our trip. I mean, I can't wait for the for
the next twenty four hours for what we're going to have.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Okay, amazing. Just quick question, when you went to wing nuts,
what kind of wings did you get?
Speaker 4 (31:48):
So there are a variety of options. We got the
bone in of course, because that's the big It's no bonus.
We did get some bonus on the side, but we
went there for the main the main lines. They had
their own sweet and savory sauce, their own special signature sauce.
(32:09):
So it wasn't like a true buffalo, very sweet, very tangy,
very delicious. So much so I even bought a bottle
to take home with me.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
That's good sauce.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
This is good suck.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Then it is well vegus. Okay, give me the run
of the day. It's now four h six. Local game
starts at like eight forty. What's the plant?
Speaker 4 (32:34):
So now we are. We are at the hotel, we
are about to venture down to Heimarch Stadium, and we
figure if it's going to take us about hour two
hours to navigate everything, do everything part and then it's
just let's survey the lot. Let's see these parking lots,
let's see this ailgate.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait hour to two
hours to survey, like to get there. How far is
the stadium from where.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
You're staying, So it's about well, because of trap right now,
it's saying about a little over an hour to get
like to where we need to get to just because
of backups. So if we leave now after this call,
we'll get down there at about five fifteen and have
a good two and a half three hours of pregame
of able to check everything out to kick off not
till eight fifteen Eastern. That I'm taking some getting used
(33:19):
to for those of us that don't live in the
Eastern time zone. But that's that's that's the plan right now.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Wait, so, how far outside of downtown is the stadium?
Speaker 4 (33:29):
So it's south of downtown and we're staying we're actually
staying a little north of the city. We're actually staying
more near Niagara Falls, and then tomorrow we're gonna be
doing We're gonna get married tomorrow and at the fall.
So the tomorrow because we're in for you. Tomorrow, we're
(33:50):
gonna be going to one of our great affiliates out
here in broadcasting the show that's near the hotel, so
we'll be able to do that have a lot of fun.
But yeah, about we got about an hour drive to go.
I think we've planned this pretty well. And can we
get in about our two in of the the tail
getting venture and then you'll shit in the magnificent seats
(34:11):
that you were able to score with us. I was
I sat next to a Bills fan on the way
to Buffalo, and I just I didn't want to brag
on where we were sitting and took all of my
might to not ask the person next to me, who
was also going to the game on where there's some twit,
But we will be right behind the Bills bench forty
(34:31):
rows up fifty yard line or some Thursday night football
to kick off Week three.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
I started the show talking about this game, and it's interesting.
It's like we do all love the story of the
guy that doesn't have all the physical traits right, like, well,
you know, we always try and say physical traits are overrated,
but it's kind of what this is a case of,
(34:58):
right Like Josh Allen, he has character, he's a leader,
he's become more accurate, but the physical traits are just
jump off the sheet at you or just jump off
the screen when you're watching it, as opposed to Tua.
And Tua has all the things you want, he just
hasn't had the physical traits. Is that a fair way
of looking at it?
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Yeah, I mean I just think Alan is such a
freak as as he is, and we knew that. We
knew that coming out of college. That was the question.
It's why he fell. And I'm using air quotes, but
why he wasn't the first or second overall pick because
there were questions. But the Rock Allen stuff that you
(35:38):
know you can't coach is obviously there. The great thing
about this and just the sense and the short time
that we've been here is I mean, Doug, I've seen
probably fifteen bills Jersey. Now we've seen a lot of
different shorts, including one Jersey that I just sent out
a tweet, absolutely magnificent. But out of those fifteen bills, jerseys.
(36:03):
I saw one Khalil Sekir and I saw fourteen Josh
Allen jerseys, and so what didn't what I didn't understand
And now I feel I have a little bit of
better understanding of is not only Josh Allen the player
and how he is, but it's like what Josh Allen
means to this community and what he means to this franchise,
(36:26):
what he means to the city, what he means to
this area. Is not every player does that. There's so
like now when we look in the future when we
talk about Buffalo, We're going to be talking about Josh Allen,
just like I think we do with Denver in John Elway. Again,
I don't think you could do that with every single team,
but so Alan with the physical traits, magnificence, but even
(36:47):
just to see like how much of a of a
role he is and who he is and he's their
star and their star player, pretty amazing. And just the
short time that we've been here.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, what
is the what? What is the piece of clothing that
you have to are you? Is it a bobblehead? Is
the jersey? What do you bring it home.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
I'm I'm open to everything. I don't know if it'll
be a bobblehead, but I probably won't be a jersey.
But I'm not opposed to a Bill hat. I'm not
opposed to a Bill's shirt. Jason Stewart, Are you looking
for any sort of gear while we're here at the
game tonight? He says maybe. He says maybe, but probably
(37:31):
it's not as maybe it's you know, they got some
really sharp hoodies, like a Royal blue hoodies, but I
think sometimes royal blues to pull off if they've got
something in red that may be more my style. But
maybe a nice lightweight red hoodie if I if I
can pull one off.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
There you go. He's Dan Byer. You'll see him tonight
Thursday Night Football. If you're Bill's mafia, hit him up
on social media. He'll come over, chug a beard, jump
off the table U during your tailgate. That's that's what
he's say.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Check check out the tweet that I just said, I
take you in It of like, this is the first
jersey that we see within an hour of touching down
in Buffalo again, there were fourteen Josh Allen chick Wig Oh,
it's awesome. I was so excited for tonight.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Ain't no thing but a chicken wing. Uh. Thanks so
thanks so much, Dan, enjoy the night.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
Bud, Thanks Dougs.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
All Right, Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio
