(00:22):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Man.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Hope you're having a great day. The Doug Gottlieb Show
broadcast live every single day, same bad time, same bat channel.
And we think, and based upon the feedback Jay stew
and Dan Byer that we got from yesterday's Tuesday Morning Quarterback,
we're doing a good job. Enough people say like that
was that was good radio? I got something of it

(00:46):
Tuesday Morning Quarterback. You can hear on Tuesday's here on
the show. What does it signify? It signifies the fact
that we during that segment of the show, we talk
about things that everybody else, ourselves included missed. We'll miss
stuff because there's thirty two teams, we have two hours

(01:06):
live and one hour of a live podcast. It helps.
So I do think sometimes we've got to show off
that we're all sports fans. We pay attention to the
entirety of the sports world is a good thing. Case
in point, I feel like we talk about baseball and
nobody else does. Although there are times in which I'll
have a day with like, I didn't really watch that
much baseball, you know, Sam, I'll actually point out I've

(01:31):
been watching. I've been caught watching some WNBA playoffs, and
it's honestly because as we're implementing our offensive and defensive schemes,
a couple of teams in the w play the way
that I want to play. All right, We're like, so
you get ideas, and there you go again. Here's here's
the full disclosure. The part that it's a lot the

(01:54):
spacing is the same. Obviously, they have no ability to
be vertical above the rim, so you have to kind
of change in some of the angles. The skill is
very good, but it's also slower and so they can
be a little bit more precise and you can see
a little bit what they're doing. Whereas and it's like
the NBA, it's stupid physical in the playoffs. So some
of it is just really hard to watch because there's

(02:16):
so much grabbing and holding, but less so in the
WNBS pause the NBA, where you can run a really
good set, but it gets blown up because they're just
allowed to kind of tackle you to let you get
the ball. And the only way to you know, go
around that is find a mismatch, throw it to somebody
and let them go play anyway. I digress. We got
a big show for you. The midway is midpoint of

(02:38):
our show that's upcoming in one hour. We'll talk about
surprises or things that we just didn't expect to happen
that have happened so far in the NFL season. Sunday Night,
the Cowboys are going to host the Packers. Of course,
there's a lot of things that go along with the
cob with the Cowboys hosting the Packers. Right, one is

(03:00):
des caught it right, it does catch the ball. We
all go back. That was a huge playoff game and
Des Brian caught the ball. But the most recent one
is Micah Parsons recent former Cowboy. We're talking about four
and a half weeks ago, month ago, he was a
Cowboy and now he's a member of the Packers. Here's
Mike talking about his anticipator return to AT and T Stadium.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
For me you know, I accepted my feet weeks ago
when the trade happened. So for me, it's just all
about playing another game and just doing what I do best,
and that's just need to disruptive football player. You know,
I think the media and the fans are trying to
blow it up to be such a big thing. But
you know, I just look at just another game at

(03:42):
at and T.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah, and let's be fair, Okay, Micah Parsons is a pro.
He's an adult. There's a little bit of there's a
little bit of the desire to sound mature, but you
actually sound immature, insane. It makes sense. It's like when
somebody uses a big word that they don't really know

(04:07):
what it means. Again, not saying Parsons does this. I'm
drawing an analogy here, Right. Have you ever been around
somebody who uses a big word and you're like, you
want to say to one of your friend's, like, I
don't think he knows what that means. Right, Here's let
me replay that for you and you understand the case.
He's saying. I don't get it. I don't know why

(04:27):
it's such a big deal. Just another game. I'm just
another guy, right, which sounds mature. It sounds like I'm
saying like, hey, just another game. I moved on. I'm
ready to get on with things. This is post therapy me,
right when the reality is you were a Dallas Cowboy.

(04:48):
It is supposed to and we believed it really meant
something to you. You competed your butt off. The message
should be I love being a Dallas cowboy. I loved it.
I was a Dallas Cowboy. They drafted me in the
first round, and I played my tail off for him.
I gave him everything I had and we couldn't come

(05:08):
to a financial agreement, so they traded me, and now
I'm a Green Bay Packer. Of course I get to
play against the Cowboys in Cowboys Stadium at at and
t like, this is awesome, and I get to you
cheer me, boom me. I'll be a focal point of it.
That's great. I'm excited. But it was an honor to
play for him. It's not to play against him. Like
that's don't undersell it. It's not what he said. He

(05:30):
was trying to sound mature. Hey I moved on, But
there's no possible way that anybody thinks you truly moved on.
In its month and this was you know, what's it
called when he bounce back in relationship? You know, it's
that next relationship after the one ends. What is it?
Are you a rebobt? There's a little bit of rebound
relationship there right here is uh Michael Parsons talking about, uh,

(05:57):
what it'll be like if he sacks Dak Prescott?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Be painful? You know what I mean? That's my guy.
You know, he was always like a good mentor for me.
But you know it is he I always talking about.
I have faced him that. You know, it'll be a
It'll be a great matchup. So I'm excited to see
what Sunday it brings yourself.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Uh Uh that now that sounded real. That did not
sound for me, Laic just sounded real. Where's the other stuff?
Sounded like somebody told him to say that. Here's Jerry Jones,
one of the Dallas Cowboys, talking about the game.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Jerry, do you feel any extra competitive drive to win
this week with Michael Parsons coming back?

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yes, yes I do, and uh uh I think that
of course I have said this time and time again.
I think the world of Micah and Uh as an individual,
and of course know him well. But and then mind
say I wish him well, except it's obvious I don't

(07:01):
this weekend in terms of Green Bay winning, winning the
ball games, and so it makes for an exciting time
and I'm anxious to see if over the years, when
I saw Michaels mitigated, when I saw teams playing pretty well,

(07:21):
which it's he's going to make some plays no matter
how you played. But when I saw people play us
well with Micah in the game and it did happen,
then obviously it will be looking to try to run
those kinds of plays.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
I love what Jerry Jones said, like, it's a big game. Yeah,
the guy just left, whatever happened with the contract. We
offered him a contract extension, he chose to not be
a Dallas Cowboy. So yeah, it's a big game, and
it's the Packers and they're good, and they're coming off loss,
and we haven't played well yet. I don't know why

(07:59):
persons would try and down play it. There's no way
to downplay what took place. When you remember the Cowboys,
it was awesome. Now you're playing against the Cowboys, it's
equally awesome. Every guy who leaves the place. I told
people this all the time. Notre Dame did nothing wrong.
When I had to leave Notre Dame zero, they didn't
do anything wrong, but I still wanted. I almost went

(08:21):
to Marquette because one I thought it was cool, a
small school, you know, in Milwaukee where I was born
and did they played an NBA arena and Mike Dan
at the time I really liked. But the bigger one,
big motivator was I could play against Notre Dame every year.

(08:43):
I'm like, don't, so I don't. I just don't know why.
Michael Parsons can't be real about it, And then he
was when he started to talking about Dak. It'll be hard,
but Dak's my guy. But man can't wait to compete
against him. Sure, that's what natural competitors do. Uh this,
here's a game where the Cowboys, whose defense is struggled

(09:06):
can step up and show, hey, we're not that bad.
I don't know what the Cowboys do offensively where now
they've lost one of their go to guys in a
CD LAMB So a team that hasn't stopped anybody, and
obviously without Michael Parsons, is not designed to put pressure
on the quarterback and an offense that loses one of

(09:28):
its two big time wide receivers. I just it feels
like they're out of talent disparity. But that's where emotion
energy may be. Fighting for the star makes them more competitive.
We'll see, we'll see. But I don't know anybody who
no matter how you live on good terms, you live

(09:49):
on bad terms. I just think competitive people are going
to be competitive. So I don't buy the Micah Parsons
It's just another game, do you? I sure don't.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
That's the Doug Gottlieb Show. That's Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
I want you to listen to something. This is amazing,
This is amazing. Okay, we have sound of Chad Wiberg.
Who's I consider Chad a friend, Okay, Like his brother
was my teammate, Jared was my teammate. His brother tragically

(10:37):
died as a He was the head manager because he
was a walk on my junior year together as a
junior college transfer. Then he became like a team manager
his senior year because he wanted to go into coaching,
and then he had a position with the team the
next year, and then there's plane crash. So I mean
and his dad, who is a former Ocali State assistant,

(10:58):
and now and and my dad, and then he was
a legendary junior college coach. We're friends. His brother U
is a Division two coach in Oklahoma. So so Chadweiberg
and I are our friends, like you know, like we don't.
We don't go out or go on vacations together. But
I mean, I genuinely liked I think he's a very

(11:19):
good human being. You'll hear his explanation for why they
fired my Gundy in a second. First, this isn't just
a game. It's a once in a generation event, the
Harlem Globe Trotter's one hundred year Tour. Come be part
of the legacy that never stops, The Harlem Globetrotter's one
hundred year Tour. Get your tickets to day at Harlem
Globetrotters Dot Come. Okay, So this is Chadweiberg yesterday on

(11:43):
why they fired my Gundy.

Speaker 6 (11:44):
I fully expected to beat the University of Tulsa. You know,
I expected the results of this season to be different
than they've been so far. Again, that goes back to
the expectation level that coach Gundhy has set for this program.
We have higher expectations than that, and so when and
had just appeared that that was not going to be met,
I felt like, for the good of the program, it

(12:07):
was time to make this decision so that we could
start the process of getting the program where we want
it to be.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah, all you did was burn the program to the ground. Okay,
it sounds really good. Hey, this is not the expectations.
Of course, it's not the expectations. So because you lost
the Tulsa you're like, all right, well that we're done here.

(12:38):
What was the whole point of having the guy redo
his staff? Because for people who are paying attention, here's
what happened. Okay, last year this time, they were ranked
fourteenth in the country. They beat Arkansas at home. Okay,
when they beat Arkansas at home, they had several injuries
to difference makers and their season fell apart and they

(12:58):
didn't win a game after that. So at the end
of the season, there's a bit of a coupd atad.
They tried to get rid of Mike Gundy, but he
had this twenty five million dollar buy out a rollover contract,
and Frankly was like, I'm not quitting. Why would they quit?
Like we had a bad year. We just won ten
games the year before, so they had to redo their roster.

(13:19):
They had to get them some money because they didn't
have money, and they had him redo his staff. He
redid his staff entirely, new staff. They go ahead and
bring in I've heard sixty five. I thought sixty three
was the number. Sixty three new players and a new staff,
and three games in at one and two when they

(13:41):
lose to Tulsa, they're like, yeah, we're not going where
we want to go again, news slash, and I don't
think they'll get They would get would have gotten there.
Two years ago, same program lost at home to South Alabama. Happened,
They turned around one ten games, went to the big
twelve two game. It happened. So you lose to Tulsa

(14:03):
because you're mad because Tulsa has been a bad football program, underfunded.
They come in and beat it at your place. Lead
you know from after your first drive when Oklahoma say
look good, lead the rest. They come back when it
score a touchdown, lead the whole rest of the way
with Stan to come back and win the game. Like
that makes you want to fire your coach. That is
fans stuff. That's not adult stuff. Hey, it's just not

(14:28):
that stuff. That's TV stuff. How it's supposed to work
is you're Chad Wiberg. You're running. Listen. If it keeps
going this way, I'm gonna have to make a change.
So you start to make a change. And I understand
He's like, I don't want to go looking at other
coaches until we've made a coaching change. Well, guess what
the job is to look at other coaches while you
still have a coach? Supposed to have a list of five,
and then a lot of list of five, and then

(14:49):
at the list of five, none of the list of five.
That's what you're supposed to do, all right, But what
was what's the point? And if you say, hey, we're starting,
this is starting the process. No, it's not. Because for
the next thirty days, any player at Oklahoma State's roster
can transfer free and clear. And the schools in the

(15:10):
quarter system haven't started class yet. I think they start
today or tomorrow, so you can still in roll guys.
But regardless of which they're all gone, your recruiting class
all gone. So what you've done is you've lit a
match to the program. And the only thing that puts

(15:31):
out the fire is when you hire a new coach.
You're not going to hire a new coach until the
season is over. So during this entire time in which
you are having games conducted by a staff that now
has lost its leader and has never worked together except
for three games, every player on that roster is going

(15:52):
to be poached. Every recruit you've committed to is going
to be poached. You have zero program. None. Well, it's
not to the standards. No, no, d it's not to
the standards. Again, I'm not saying you can't fire Gundy,
but you made the statement of well, last week we
didn't think we'd be here. This week, we are because
you lost the game. Brett McMurphy joins me. He's covered

(16:16):
college football for a long time. He too, is in
Oklahoma State alone. Uh, Brett, what's your reaction to what
Chad Weiberg said yesterday?

Speaker 6 (16:29):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (16:33):
Not surprised, I guess. I mean I didn't think Mike
would be able to coast the rest of the season.
I was surprised at I just heard the tail end
of you there. I was surprised they did it this early.
I mean they haven't played a conference game. I mean,
mathematically they could go nine to zero in league play.

(16:54):
You know that's not gonna happen. But a couple of
years ago they lost to South Alabama and one I
think with the Big twelve that year. So I think
the Tulsa game is the last straw. I think the
hope and still water was after the Oregon game, is well,
maybe Oregon's really really, really good and we're not. We're

(17:14):
not that bad. But then after the Tulsa game, I
think the realization set in that you know, in the
past two years, you know, Oklahoma State has not been competitive,
and you can say whatever reason that is, but bottom
line is they haven't been competitive and they needed to
make a change. And I think you were mentioned in

(17:34):
the transfer portal and it's not just an Oklahoma State thing,
it's everybody. I mean, Virginia Tech and UCLA made that decision.
But why in the world would you get rid of
a coach just early in the season, when you basically
open the floodgates to your portal for the next thirty
days and your kids can can have a massive exodus.
I don't understand that. It's if I was in that position,

(17:55):
I hate admitted I probably want to hold hold the
coach hostage and went back end of the season so
you have a chance to retain some players and not
just open the flood gates.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Yeah, I mean, look, there's a bunch of different things
because it's three games in the season. Also, players who
don't want to leave, they can not play and maintain
a red shirt year. Like that's a real thing. Yeah,
so you said that, this is what you said. The
season is over. That's what they've said. The season is
over light, a match start from scratch, that's what they've said.

(18:29):
It makes Brett. I'm just telling you, it makes zero sense.
And while I disagree, like Deshaun Foster it wasn't going well.
But three games in the year two is a joke. Okay,
it's a joke. Okay, Virginia Tech it was year four.
I don't know. I don't know enough details. I do
think that when you're there for twenty one years and

(18:51):
nineteen of them are pretty amazing, and when you redo
your staff in the offseason, you go like, hey, let's
give the guy a chance to coach his way out
of it, go out with some dignity, and they took
away any sort of dignity, and they burned the program
to the ground with the idea that we can start over.
And I'm gonna tell you why. I think they've done
it because you have people who are very powerful there

(19:13):
with a lot of money, who look down the street
at Oklahoma and see how quickly they fixed that disaster
of two years ago, and they say that can be us.
And you and I both know I love my alma mater.
It is not Oklahoma football. It will never be Oklahoma football,
especially with the way this thing is trending financially. And again,

(19:34):
I think they think it's pretty easy and it's really really,
really hard, and I think I made it harder. I
think they made it harder yesterday.

Speaker 7 (19:42):
I agree with everything you're saying, and you're right. I
don't know the reasons for pointing the trigger after three games.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
I do, Brett, You want to you want to know
what it is. Okay, you had guys that want they
had guys that wanted him fired. Last year. They couldn't
do it. They couldn't do it, So this was their chance.
And they called Chad Weiberg because this is this is
how it works in college sports, called Chadweiberg, and they say,
if you don't fire him right now, I won't give
you another penny. And you either have to have the

(20:11):
big kajones to go like, hey, listen, we'll take care
of it at the right time when it plays out,
so we don't destroy the program for this season. We
keep it together, we do, or you acquiesce. And Chad
Weiberg doesn't have a contract currently or a contract extension currently,
and he felt, I'm sure he felt like he had
to acquiesce and do it now otherwise he'd be out
of a job. That's a very likely scenario from from

(20:33):
And again, this is not talking to anybody, This is
not inside information. This is just how the world works
in my opinion, right.

Speaker 7 (20:41):
And it's and when you say that they wanted him
fired last year, there's probably there's probably people in power
that wanted him fire five years ago. Sure that the
issue was Gundy wouldn't lose, so they couldn't they couldn't
get rid of him. And then what you know, if
you've been somewhere that long, Yeah, you mentioned twenty one years.
You know, after a while, you know people some people

(21:01):
like you, other people don't like you. Well, you don't
hear about you, don't hear anything from the people that
don't like you, because you're putting together eighteen consecutive winning seasons,
the ninth longest streak and NCAA history for one coach
at one school. So those people kind of sit in
the background and they don't really say anything. But then
you have one season go down the toilet, and now

(21:21):
suddenly they're singing at the top of their lungs. We
got to get rid of this guy. We got to
get rid of this guy. Yeah, it's it's it's unfortunate.
It sucks. I did like what Mason Rudolph tweeted out about,
you know, thanks to coach Gundhy. And I can't wait
to see when they erect the statue for you. And
I think they will do that. I think they will

(21:43):
name There's no inside information either, but I think they'll
name in the field after him. You know, they'll let
some time pass by and let you know, some some
tempers cool off a little bit. But yeah, I think
he'll be recognized like he should be. But yeah, it's
and Doug. Look at this is not just an Oklamba
State thing either. I mean there's a laundry list of

(22:05):
coaches that couldn't go out on their own terms. You know,
Bobby Ballad and you know, the list is on and on.
Like Nick Saban, probably one of the most impressive things
that he did is he got to go out on
his terms. You know, nobody forced him out, nobody shoved
him out. He said, you know what, guys, I'm out
of here. That's a very very small list for a

(22:25):
lot of very successful coaches that get to a point
where they're not having the same success, and then somebody
with more money, with more power wants to make a
statement say hey, yeah, that's great what you did in
the past two decades, but we need we need some
fresh meat in here. You're out of here?

Speaker 1 (22:42):
What stug Gottlieb show here? On Fox Sports Tradio, Breton
Murphy joins us covering college football. Is there any way
that Clemson moves on from Dabbo? I mean, I've seen
I've seen the buy out numbers. It's like fifty forty six.
It's crazy, crazy money. But is there any way that

(23:02):
they part company?

Speaker 7 (23:05):
Is there any way today's environment. Yes, realistically, Doug, I
can't see it happen. I really can't. I mean, now, look,
let's let's talk in a month, and if they're one
and six or two and five, then certainly, certainly that
would change things. I mean, but no, if they go
eight and four, seven and five, absolutely they're not going

(23:27):
to get rid of him. I mean, you look at
what he's done. You know, it's similar but even more
impressive than what Gundy's done. I mean, they have national championships.
You've got, he's got multiple College Football Playoff appearances. The
thing is, when I talk to a lot of people
about about different things involving college athletics, and Clemson comes
up and obviously realignments down the road in like four

(23:48):
or five years, a question with Clemson is, you know,
and this is a testament to how successful Dablos Sweeney
is kind of answering your question. I think he's fine.
There a lot a lot of people wonder, is Clemson
without Davos Swingey the same as Butler without Brad Stevens,
the same with the same as maybe Bob Indiana without

(24:10):
Bobby Knight. And so there's a real fear that once
Davo's not there, then maybe the program goes back to
how it was before Davo, where there was, you know,
no playoff games. Obviously there was, there was a rare
major bowl game, mostly losing seasons, five hundred seasons. So no,

(24:32):
Dabo's fine, He's frustrated because like every fan base Oklahoma
States is saying, Clemson's is saying, once you reach a
specific level, once you win a national championship, at Clemson's
if you don't win a national championship, then it's a disappointment.
You know, you have to reach that high level mark
every year. Obviously that's not going to happen for anybody.

(24:52):
But also what's more frustrating is, you know a lot
of people that I really respect their opinion, that are
really smart. They picked Clemson in in the national title
this year. They were their trendy, you know, sneaky pick.
They were favorite, overwhelming favorite to win the ACC. They were,
you know, overwhelming favorite to make the College football playoffs.

(25:13):
And now, Doug, you know they're gonna end up you know,
seven and four, eight and five playing in a bowl
game and in Tennessee or Florida or Carolina or somewhere
but Dado's fine. Now, now this happens a couple more years,
you know, we'll see what happens. But no, he's built
up a ton more equity than probably any coach not

(25:36):
named Nick Saban out there, and I can't I can't
see them. I mean, look, like I said, in today's environment,
anything can happen, but I would be I would be
stunned if that happened with him. I mean, he's been
ranked in the AP Paul every year for the last
fourteen fifteen years. They're having a bad season, you know,

(25:57):
it happens. They've had a double digit one season every
year but one since twenty eleven. So like, what, you
don't have a double digit win season? All right, thanks,
you're out the door. I can't see that happening.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. How much
does the football landscape shift with John Mattier out for
at least a couple of weeks.

Speaker 7 (26:20):
It's huge. I actually thought, I actually thought he had
a legitimate chance to win the Heisman Trophy, and I
still think he might. But you know, he's definitely their off.
This week they have Kent State. That's an awfully suit
so he's gonna miss Kent State. You know, early reports
are they're hoping to get him back for Texas on
October eleventh. Whether that's possible or not, I don't know.

(26:46):
I don't. I mean, oklahoma schedule is one of the toughest,
if not the toughest, in the country. But they had
a chance to kind of survive that. I thought Oklahoma,
if there was any team in the country that could
lose three games and make the call football playoffs, isn't
a large team. Oklahoma had a legitimate shot because of
that strength to schedule. You lose John Matteir and now

(27:09):
that totally changes the dynamic of that offense, you know,
hopefully for oh you you know, if he can't get
back for Texas, he can get back for the back
half of the season start without South South Carolina and
actually if he doesn't play against Texas, they lose to Texas.
You know, supposedly the College Football Playoffs Committee WI takes
that into consideration like they do the NCAA basketball tournament

(27:31):
when key players are out for significant stretches during the season.
So that necessarily obviously it's not going to help owe you,
but maybe it wouldn't it wouldn't hurt owe you as
much as if he was in there playing. But as
far as people that like to play, you know, make
a little pizza money wager on who's going to win
the Heisman, I always say, don't do it. It's a

(27:52):
waste of money. You might as well light your money
on fire. But I actually thought Matteer had a good chance.
And now the biggest issue for him is history. He
will now try to become the first Heisman Trophy winner
that did not play in every game since nineteen ninety
three and that's when Charlie Ward won the Heisman at
Florida State after missing one game with some rib injury.

(28:16):
So but for Oklahoma, you know, the playoff is in
front of him, which going into this season, I know
they would have loved to have that with the questions
about Venables, was he the guy? And certainly they have.
They have lived up to it right now, even though
they had to cheat to score the winning touchdown against.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
Any Stell Gottlieb Show Here on Fox Sports Radio. That's
the voice of Brett McMurphy. Last one Brett here is
as we get ready for the college football weekend, you
look at the games this weekend, and there's one that
absolutely jumps out, or actually two that jumps at you,
Penn State. Right, we all know about how good a

(28:58):
program James Franklin has built, and yet he do unbeat
ranked teams. Right, That's always been the thing against him.
Probably unfair when he's at Vanderbilt, more fair when he's
at Penn State. How big is this weekend with Oregon
coming to state College?

Speaker 7 (29:15):
It's obviously huge, Doug. But because of the twelfteen playoffs,
you know, we can go back to the good old
days from what two years ago when there was a
fourteen playoff. If there was a fourteen playoff, think of
how big this game would be. Think of how big
Alabama and Georgia would be. But now the loser of
both of those games is still in great position to

(29:35):
get to a college football playoffs. It's obviously bigger for
Franklin and his inability to beat top five ranked opponents,
top ten ranked opponents at Penn State. And yeah, I
know his record as one in eighteen one in nineteen,
whatever the number is against top five, top ten teams,
that goes all the way back to Vanderbilt. Okay, well,
let's not go all the way back to Vanderbilt. Let's

(29:57):
go back three years. He's one in five or zero
and six in all in off, all six of those games,
the spread was they were worse a field goals underdogs.
So these aren't games that they're supposed to lose by
two touchdowns. These are winnable games. They haven't won those games.
So until big game, James can actually win a big game.

(30:19):
I don't have any faith in Penn State winning the
national title, but I do actually think they may be
the most talented team in the country. But have they
just been playing possum these first three weeks? Because when
you play the likes in the bad at FIU and Villanova,
certainly you're not going to show everything for those first
three games. And now you've got an open day before Oregon.
But this if look, if Franklin loses this game, you're

(30:43):
gonna hear the same stuff you heard last year when
they lost Ohio State and they lost you know, everybody
else that was ranked highly. The good news, though, they
can lose that and they can still get to the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
He's Brett McMurphy. Check them out on the Action Network.
It does a great job. Fall on social media as
well for any of your college football updates that you
possibly could have. Brett crazy times there, am and monitor.
We'll see who they hire next. Appreciate you being our
guest on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 7 (31:10):
I'm guessing you won't be contributing to the new football
coach hiring.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Uh, well, I contribute. I got two kids in school there,
so I'm I'm I'm one one way or the other.
You know, I still I still love my school I did.
I greatly disagree with the way in which they made
this decision. That's it. That's how.

Speaker 7 (31:26):
That's how I agree too, I agree to.

Speaker 1 (31:29):

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Swung on base hit left field tallow rounding firm.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Here coachs calls throw on the plane. Do the fus one?

Speaker 2 (32:01):
What a game?

Speaker 5 (32:02):
We said, try to get to the starters if you can.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
You didn't get to shoh in six innings, but you
never know against this Dodger bullpen and man did they
show up and implose?

Speaker 1 (32:13):
And I'm sure Jason Stewart enjoyed that great. I'm kidding
the Diamondbacks, I didn't even know, like, did anybody know
that they had a chance. They're one game out of
the Mets in the wild card with you know, like
what five six games to play.

Speaker 5 (32:31):

This is game time, Dan on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
All right, Doug, the game today is for better or worse?

Speaker 2 (33:48):
All right?

Speaker 4 (33:48):
For better or worse? We're talking about gigs jobs Fox
lead broadcaster versus limited NFL partner.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
Fox lead broadcaster, Foxley Buck. There's only one Foxley broadcast.
It's better fox lea broadcaster is better. You have to
buy your way in to being a limited partner, right,
and you're limited as partner by terms?

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Right?

Speaker 1 (34:13):
And by the way, how do I know that it's
not good to be a limited partner with raiders? That
sister's ex husband inherited twenty percent of the raiders, right,
they're now out of that business or whatever. But they
had zero power. None al did whatever he wanted, so

(34:34):
it's not close. Fox lead broadcaster is.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
Better for better or worse Packer rival? The matchup is
Cowboys versus Lions. Who's the better rival or worse rival
for the Green Bay Packers?

Speaker 2 (34:52):
Better?

Speaker 4 (34:53):
Sam, you're a Packers fan, maybe you want to weigh
in on this. I would say that the Lions are
a worse rival because I feel like the Packers for
a long time just beat them almost every time. But
now it's a little more even so it's nice.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
I'd say the Cowboys are the better rival, the Lines
are the worst rival, and it's it's the historic significance
of two of the greatest franchise in the history.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Of recional sports, dating back to Ice Bowl Ice Bowl.
Ever wanted to try an Olympic and Paralympic sport, Try fencing.

That's USA Fencing dot org slash try fencing, all right,
Doug for better or Worse? A bigger dead college football
story Arch Manning versus Bill Belichick. Neither of these stories

(35:37):
have lived up to their hype. For the preseason, Bill
Belichick's worse.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
It's worse. It just it looks sad. It looks like
she's manipulating him, and it's hard to recover from what
we've seen. That arch manning better because well he's still
got the Oklahoma game, has got plenty of season, and
he come back for next year and fixed the sure,
but the Belichick thing just seems creepy and does.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
Not all the arch taunting means have been funny this week,
while Belichick is apparently has a piece done on him
and Jordan Hudson and US Weekly, I saw that.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Yeah, so uncomfortable?

Speaker 4 (36:15):
All right, Doug for better or worse? College football playoff format?
Twelve schools versus sixteen schools?

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Twelve is better, sixteen is worse?

Speaker 6 (36:21):
Too many?

Speaker 1 (36:22):
College football has always been about the regular season. If
you keep it at twelve, the regular season matters.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
All right? How about this review format? What's better or worse?
The new ABS and Major League Baseball versus Hawkeye in tennis?

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Well, Hawkey is the best. Yeah, God, Hawkey is the best.

Speaker 4 (36:40):
Hawkey.

Speaker 1 (36:41):
ABS is going to be awesome, be the best of
the major sports. But Hawkey is the best.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
IOWASH should do an alternate helmet with maybe just the
center stripe and like a ball just outside of it.
That would be amazing that anf America needs farmers like
stickers should just be right next to the line, slightly
over it.

Speaker 7 (37:02):
Now do the do the decal for hawk ta.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
I let's move on. We don't want to keep our jobs.
That's for the podcast only.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
This is I think interesting Ryder Cup venue for better
or worse. When the USA is at home or when
the USA is on the road, do you like being
the in the road?

Speaker 1 (37:21):
Yeah, I agree, USA and the road. But also because
you know, the Brits are just so arrogant, so snobby,
like we invented golf and you Americans come over and
you just rebel rouses and whatever. Yeah, we're like Eagles
fans when we go there, like, hey, you don't like us,
we don't care.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
It's been thirty two years since the US is one
on Bidder. It'll be two more because this week they're
at best page black. But she'll be fun and that's
game time.

Speaker 7 (37:47):
Game.

Speaker 5 (37:48):
This is game time on the Godleaf Show.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
All right.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Coming up next, we'll get to the midway. What's the
biggest surprise so far in the NFL? Season, Share our thoughts. Next,
