(00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What Up America.
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to you from
beautiful sunny southern California. Cannot wait to get to our
first guest, Scott Frost has come back home. We'll ask
him about the terrible news. Is home was broken into?
(00:44):
Do they actually get his Nebraska National Championship ring or not? Uh,
we're gonna get to that. He'll join us in about
fifteen minutes or so. Uh, we'll, we'll, we'll give you
something we read there's a timeline of events in regards
to Ohio State and why uh look, I'm not gonna
let two fans speak for an entire fan base, but man,
(01:06):
there was some I mean moronic idiotic signs. But why
it is in fact par for the course all that
upcoming on the Doug Gotlic show, let me kind of
dive in here today. Um, Colin coward at me on
his show on most of our affiliates. Of course, you
can hear the Herd on Fox Sports Radio. And I
found the topic at first to be a little bit
(01:26):
odd because Colin is, you know, it's sometimes hard to
sit in his chair as a fill in host because
there's a Lebron James pomp pomps in him right. Um,
but look, Colin is a huge Lebron fan, and even
Colin is starting to say, hey, hold on a second,
this is a little bit much. I'm not sure if
you're aware, but last night it was announced that there'd
(01:49):
be a three part doc docuseries on Showtime called Shut
Up in Dribble. It's gonna debut in October, the same
month that Lebron James gonna suit up for the Eliott Manikers.
The series is gonna look at the changing role of
athletes and the current political culture and the cultural climate
against the backdrop of the NBA. James is the executive
(02:12):
producer of the series, along with Maverick Carter and his
agent Rich Paul Gotham Chopra, who did Kobe Bryant's Mused
in two thousand fifteen. Also, that was the Showtime show
will direct the series, so like, look they got like legit,
a legit guy doing this thing. There's also an HBO
show called The Shop. That's the barbershop deal, right that
(02:35):
he had He had previously had and argued with people
that somehow he invented this barbershop talk thing. Remember that. Uh.
Then apparently there's a CBS show called Million Dollar a Mile.
He's the executive producer of a competition series that has
been ordered by CBS. Yeah, a million Dollar Mile. Contestants
(02:58):
will have a chance to win one million dollars time
they run the million dollar miles. Standing in their way
is a challenging course and group of elite athletes with
one mission stopped the contestants from winning money at all
court costs. Right, So it's gonna come from the executive producers,
a big Brother, etcetera, etcetera. Oh yeah, and apparently there's
(03:18):
some other show that's gonna be on Netflix. Yeah, he's
got another one on Netflix. Like Lebron James is going
to be have a show on Netflix, have a show
on CBS, have a show on Showtime, have a show
on HBO. To those of you not paying attention to
(03:39):
have a show on Showtime and HBO albeit different once
that docuseries, you know, the other one is uh, the
other one is is a kind of different type of show,
and then the one uh Netflix is going to be uh,
it's gonna be like a situation comedy, not a rom
coma situation comedy. And then have a a game show
(04:01):
essentially every type of show, every type of show he's
gonna have with a different network that would be like, hey, look,
yes I wear Nike shoes, but I wear Adidas shorts,
I wear Stant socks, and my headband is provided by
somebody altogether different. So Lebron takes l a is really amazing.
(04:25):
And by the way, it does fit into the narrative
that people have said, you know what, basketball is not
the most important thing to him. I am more. Think
about even what Lebron James is saying himself, I'm more
than an athlete. Companies have done this before and they
have failed. For example, if you get away from your
(04:48):
core audience, your core audience well will sometimes lose interest.
The two most prominent examples of that the NHL and NASCAR.
How popular is the NHL and NASCAR. Look, they were
on fire in the nineties, on fire. Of course, Los
Angeles was helped out. But the fact that they got
(05:09):
Wayne Gretzky once the great One came to town. All
of a sudden, l a for some reason, cared about hockey.
The Kings have won two Stanley Cups, but they are
not even a blip on the sports radar in Los Angeles.
Remember the Atlanta Thrashers. Think about the disaster that Phoenix
has been in the National Hockey League. They departed cities
(05:29):
like Winnipeg and others in Canada suddenly were not important
to the league. Now, look, the NHL has done a
really nice job of getting back to their core audience
as they've kind of retracked, and they're back in Winnipeg
and and and they're they're doing well on you know, uh,
(05:51):
they have their own NHL network on NBCSN and you know,
they have some they got the outdoor game every year
right around Christmas time. But the fact is that the
NHL got away from their core audience. And even though
we like hockey, we don't know hockey, we know anything
about it. Why because nobody plays hockey growing up. Nobody
talks about hockey. The too many players, too many players
(06:14):
that we didn't watch growing up. We can't see their faces,
we can only see their numbers. It's not that hockey
isn't a cool sport. It is just Look, I've been
doing this for fifteen years. Nobody gives a damn about hockey.
The same thing with NASCAR. NASCAR was big in the South,
big in the Midwest. Then they go to Fontana on
California Speedway, which is awesome. And don't get me wrong,
(06:36):
there's just as many rednecks that love race car, love
racing in Fontana as there are are in Talladega. But
what you do is same thing as the NHL. You
end up taking off your core audience. They're like, yo,
you've forgotten us, You've gone Hollywood, You've gone to all
these other stops instead of paying attention to what's important.
And NASCAR has seen their ratings plummet even as they
(07:00):
try and get back to what their core is now. Look,
there are other factors that play for the NHL over
expansion um. The fact is that it's just a hard
watch on TV. It's hard to pick up the puck,
it's hard to know what's going on. We didn't grow
up watching the sport. Like there's some other factors, but
the fact is that the NHL got away from their
core audience and over expanded into markets that weren't familiar
(07:20):
and that weren't part of that core audience. And one
of the reason is that the There's a bunch of
reasons the NHL is far more healthy now. One is
they've set their salary scale, salary structure a lot more soundly.
But I think the biggest part is they've gotten back
to their core audience. NASCAR essentially will do the same.
And that's the danger of what Lebron James is doing.
(07:44):
It's not that he can't do a movie here space
GM two. It's not that he can't produce a show there.
It's once you start producing multiple shows, once you start
doing appearances and movies and movie premieres. Plus your father,
and he is an engaged, eached father. I'm not being
critical the fact that he shows up at his son's games,
but there's a reason. There's there's more than one reason
(08:07):
that he doesn't want to practice. He only wants to
do his personal workouts like he is time regimented. Look, dude,
I got two hours hour to work out our to
work on my game, and then I'm out, and then
I'm a corporation. I got all this other stuff, So
all of those things that some people have been even
what Charles Barkley said, Charles Barkley says it, and you
(08:27):
think he's a hater, he's old school. Was he wrong?
What's more important to him winning basketball games or being
a mogul? I mean, look, you said, Colins said, oh
year long, he wants to be a mogul. He wants
to be a mogul. Now you are a mogul. Can
you satisfy your core audience? Because what makes Lebron James what?
(08:49):
What validated Lebron James calling himself the king at a
very young age was winning NBA championships, right? And the
more things she's throw on somebody's plate, the less you
pay attention to the basketball team. He's already gone to
an organization which is not a perfect fit for a
coach who has not coached the team into the playoffs yet,
(09:12):
who wasn't hired by the front office. He got this
isle of misfit toys that you've collected, Lance Stevenson and
um shoot re Gen Rondo, and others on that bench.
Then you got the starters, you got LaVar ball, you
got all this other stuff which is your core, which
has made you what you are. Look, say what you
(09:34):
want about Michael Jordan's. It's really cool to be critical
of Michael Jordan's. Michael Jordan did have been his business interests.
Michael Jordan did play golf, he did smoke cigars, he
did play poker, He did always something. But you know
what else he did. He did the breakfast club every day,
he had the guys over his house where he had
a gym and he worked out. He did go to practice.
He never lost track of what the core of what
(09:57):
he was is right, never lost sight of that. And
maybe the reason that he retired was he was ticked
at the bulls. Maybe it was because he was done,
or maybe it was because he knew that was the
last time he could give all of his attention or
the most important part of his attention to his sport.
Because part of the Lord to Jordan was never lost
(10:19):
in the finals. Now, maybe Lebron, it doesn't matter to
some he never gets back. We can make the excuse
that it's in the west. If he never gets back,
we can make the excuse that he was coached by
Luke Walton and it was magic in Rob Polinka is
in about to put a team around him. But the
idea that anyone who says Lebron James he is going
(10:43):
to the Lakers for basketball reasons. All of these announcements Showtime, HBO, Netflix,
CBS in succession. Even the interview after he opens a
school and Acronto which he says maybe I'll run for
president only feeds into the narrative and makes it more
(11:03):
believable when he says I'm more than a basketball player.
Maybe you don't want to play basketball anymore. These people
that say, well, basketball is not who I am. It
isn't I'm not saying that doesn't diminut it diminishes you
as a human being. To see you're a great basketball player,
but that's what made you, That's what made you. Snug
(11:27):
Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um Man, I can't

(12:56):
Sports Radio. And it's been heck, it's been over a
year since our next guest lost a football game. Remember
last year head coach if UCF the Central Florida UH nights,
they did not lose a game, beat Auburn in the
ball game. And of course, uh it was amazing how
they handled it in terms of leaving his staff, leaving
Central Florida coaching the bowl game, but living everybody feeling
(13:19):
like with good feelings, usually there's negativity. I want to
talk to about that about turning home to Nebraska. The
challenge in the Big Ten especially is loaded as the
Big Ten is and uh and and what's what's different
now as opposed to what it was like when when
he was in school. Scott Frost joins just on the
Doug Outlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Coach, how
are you doing well? How are you good? Man? Um? Look,
(13:41):
I I mean being a head coach in Nebraska's obviously
anybody's dream that that plays there. But has it? Do
you have to wait till your first Saturday on the
field at Memorial Stadium to really to let it sink
in or has it sunk in already? No? I think
it's sunk in. You know, it sinks in when I'm
around so many people that I know and care about,
how many people that care about me and our staff
(14:02):
and our team and our program. And this is home
for me. Um. Just yesterday at practice, Uh, my brother's
in town visit and brought his family. My parents were there,
Coach Osborne was there, some friends from Junior High and
mccok Nebraska were at practice. And uh, we get to
do a special job and it's very rewarding because because
we get to try to help young people be better,
(14:24):
and it's even more rewarding when you're doing it around
friends and family. What was it like as you know coaching,
you know, going back to coaching Oregon or even at
at Central Florida. You pay attention to what's going on
back home, but you also you have a job to
do and you lock in and whatever program you work
for becomes your program. Um, was when when did the
(14:45):
When did the possibility of being the head coach in
Nebraska really start to maybe become a reality, you know,
not until really late. Um you know, some people might
not believe it, but um, I told everybody all along,
I wasn't thinking about any other job while I was
at UCF, and and we were loyal to that uh
(15:05):
standard as a coaching staff because we want to do
everything we could for the kids that were working hard
for us. And the bad part about that was right
at the end of the season when decisions had to
be made. It kind of kind of just landed on
us at the end because we hadn't spent any time
thinking about it. Um. You know, Nebraska was always a
program that I watched, but um, you know, I kind
(15:26):
of felt, uh disconnected from it for a long time
because there weren't people in the building at Nebraska that
I knew, and weren't a lot of people there that
had been there when I was playing. Um, we we
kind of felt apart from a little bit. And uh,
you know, I've said this publicly a lot, but I
don't think i'd be back here if if the leadership
(15:47):
hadn't changed and there were some people working on campus
that had our best interest at heart, and some people
I wanted to work with. Uh. Recently, your your home
was broken into, and I know you guys are doing
work on it, and that's always I got work being
down to my home, and you know, there's the trust factor.
Did somebody lock something up? And but but considering like
(16:08):
this is your home, it's a huge thing for you
to turn back to end you to be the head
coach like guy like that. Doesn't that go against like
everything this whole thing is about that somebody break in
and steal your stuff. Well, what got reported was worse
than what it actually was. We're living in a rental
house right now. So the house that got broken into
is one we weren't even in, which makes it a
(16:28):
lot better that my wife and son weren't in the home. Um,
when we first got in there, every single one of
our boxes was cut open and everything was in a
huge pile on the floor. And the police asked me
what I didn't see, and I gave him a big list.
As we were digging through the rubble, we found most
of this stuff. And um, ironically, um, they left almost
(16:50):
everything and they took every uh, every piece of work
and everything that I had, um, which kind of makes
sense because I don't I don't. I would have been
surprised if Nebraska fan would have done that to my
house at this point in time. So it probably wasn't
an Abraska fan that did it, and I was happy
that I didn't lose as much as were initially thought.
Did they did they take the Nebraska rings though? No,
(17:11):
there was two boxes they didn't get opened, and um,
all my rings were in one of those boxes. Um.
And shoot, I told people that my helmet from my
senior year of college at Nebraska was opened and laying
on the floor and still there. And I ran out
on the field on the last play of the nineties
seven Orange Bowl of our national championship game and grabbed
(17:32):
the ball from Coach Osborne's last play and had it
in a big display case and they left that. Um,
all they took was all my Oregon Jordan's and a
couple of helmets. Has had to Coach Frost, thanks for everything,
Marcus Mariota. Uh So, I think it might have been
an Oregon fan or a sneaker head that did it,
But I didn't lose that much. Doug out there show
Fox Sports Radio. Okay, let's let's talk about the job
(17:55):
of rebuilding Nebraska football. What I've always always it's it's
kind of interesting how the world kind of comes full circle.
You know, back when coach Osbourne was there, when you
guys were there, Uh look, you guys were guys are
an option team. Um, and it wasn't that you know,
you you could throw the football, but you you threw
it kind of out of out of option looks. And
that's but but as much as the spread has become
(18:16):
synonymous with college football, people I think, and you tell
me if I'm wrong, they misassociate some types of the
spread because like, look what what Baylor does. That's just
the veer and then you got one on one on
the outside. Like that's there's a lot of option looks.
It's kind of like option football has just evolved a
two thousand fifteen. So whereas when Bill Callahan tried to
come in and scrap the whole thing and become a
(18:38):
pro passing game, or even the Mike Riley comes in
and tries to have a pro passing game, there is
a way to to link the old and the new.
Is that is that a fair assessment of some of
the things that you've done everywhere you've been and comparing
it to when coach Osborne was winning national championships. Yeah, well,
first of all, I want to thank you for saying
that I could throw the ball, because there be a
(18:59):
lot of people who are dissagre with a. Um. Dude,
I saw the and I saw the flicker. I was
sitting in my I was sitting in my door room
back like my sister. Remember enough that that the run
game work, and that's about it. But now you know,
college football evolves, offenses evolved, and to be honest, so
if you're getting back here and getting in the weeds
of it, a lot of um, what hasn't been right
(19:20):
with Nebrasque football, it's been self inflicted. Uh. It's been
decisions to to go different directions than what had worked
in Nebraska for a long time. And what we do
on offense certainly doesn't look like what I ran an
offense when I was in college, but there's a lot
of similarities schematically, just like you said, between a spread
(19:40):
option offense and a power option offense. And the biggest
one that we got to get back is the grittiness,
the toughness, the work ethic, the physicality. You can be
physical in any type of offense. You don't have to
have a fullback in the back field to do that.
And um, you know, we're taking our first few steps,
but I can't wait to have a really physical football
(20:01):
field on on the field again. Uh, a Nebraska looking
football team out there. Okay, so you mentioned Nebraska looking
football team. So the couple of things you always had
was right. Uh. In addition to the running backs and
the fullbacks and athletic quarterbacks, you had a great offensive line.
But you also have the black shirts on defense. How
how difficult is it going to be to rebuild on
the defensive side of the ball, especially considering, you know,
(20:24):
the move to the Big Ten. While financially it's a windfall,
it does take you out of the state of Texas,
you know, on a weekly basis, it does kind of
change have you recruit and again, going back to when
you were in school, you guys were great in the
Northeast Big and Jersey and recruiting, and even that's changed,
not just with Penn State being in the Big Ten,
but but also you know, Big East teams becoming a
(20:46):
CC teams. How difficult is it going to be to
get the level of athleticism in that defensive backfield that
you guys had when Nebraska was great. I don't think
it's really difficult at all. A lot of the things
that you're saying, I've heard a bunch, and to be
honest with you, I think they're excuses. Um. We we
went through this last recruiting cycle and I only had
about two weeks to work for the first signing day
(21:07):
in six weeks before the second. Uh, and I love
where we finished and a lot of those kids are
on the field and and doing great things already. UM.
We recruited kids from Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, New Jersey, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, California. UM,
people are gonna want to come, especially if we do
things the right way, which we're going to do things
(21:29):
the way that we're going to UM, kids are gonna
want to come. And which league we're playing in isn't
gonna make a difference. UM, we just have to make
sure that we're functioning the right way. And you said
building rebuilding, but to me, it's more about building. UM.
We got to build the roster. We gotta build each
individual kid. When you looked at Nebraska teams. Back when
(21:52):
Nebraska was great, there was a hallmark, and that was
we were bigger and stronger and better for the physical
condition than everybody else. And and a lot of that
we're in the weight room hasn't been there in recent years. Um,
we're going to do more with kids once we get
to campus than almost anybody else in the country. We
have the people and the resources set up to do that,
and we just need some time to get it done.
(22:13):
You know. It's interesting. I interviewed for my mother. Going
back was like a year, a year ago, year and
a half ago. And my wife's hesitance was She's like, look,
they love you back there, but what if it doesn't
work right? Like what if it doesn't work? Like? Can
you go home again? Has that did that ever creep
into your conversations with Nebraska, or at least into into
(22:35):
your mindset and your your conversation with your wife in
returning home. Yeah, it's definitely more of a fish bowl here,
and we definitely thought about that. If if things go
the way that we're planning on going, it's gonna be, uh,
one of the best experiences of my life. But it's
a little scary not to not to succeed, UM, especially
(22:56):
when you're in your hometown. UM, all we can do
put our down, heads down, and work and make sure
that that doesn't happen. And I love what we've done
already in the progress that we've made. UM. And also
tell you that you know, any any thought about that
was far outweighed by the opportunity to be in the
same hometown as my parents and and coach Osborne and
(23:17):
people that I care about. UM, that outweighs any potential negative. Okay,
So Matt Davidson has made basically a career out of
that one catch, right. I mean like he has, he
played basketball, he played out of that one right He's
made And for people don't know Matt Davidson, he's a
color commentator I think on football and basketball, and like, look,
you threw for over a thousand yards, but you guys
(23:38):
didn't throw it a ton. He makes this one incredible
catch where he hit off a Nebrasky kids foot. I'll
never forget where I was. I'm in my dorm room
at Oaklahoma State Bennett Hall, and it's a Saturday, and
I'm like streaming around running and I wasn't a brass.
It was just a super super exciting, exciting football game. UM. Okay,
so in how do you how have you been able
(24:00):
to kind of convey what it's going to be like
if in fact you get to where you want to
get to to your current group, because you know, like, look,
they've only seen kind of the negativity, and though even
though people show up and it's a big thing, they
don't know what it's like when it's what it was
like when you were there. Have you been able to
craft a message so that they can understand it? We're
(24:22):
getting there. I think it's lessons that we all have
to learn and that we have to keep teaching. Uh.
You brought up Matt Davidson. He's a perfect example of
a Nebraska kid that came here and worked became a
great player. Uh is known throughout the State's popular because
of who he is and what he accomplished. UM, Nebraska
is a fish bowl that because it's the only show
(24:43):
in town, the entire states behind it. Um. You know,
we sold out a spring game in thirty six hours,
seven thousand sets because people are excited about what's going on.
But we're trying to get Nebraska looking and feeling like
it used to and a lot of that's our responsibility
to educate and improve on the football program and the
(25:05):
football players. UM. But I'll tell you this. Wherever I
go around the country, I see other fans and they
talk about how how great Nebraska fans are, that they
cheer for the other team as they're coming off the field,
that they're polite, that they're listen, it's uncomfortable, how nice
they are. What is going It's uncomfortable, how polite, how
how how much they pay attention. I remember, and I
(25:25):
think this is before you went Yes, before you went there.
Maybe when you were at Stanford. Remember when Washington came
in and Don James team kicked their ass and the
Nebraska fans game a standing ovation when they ran off
the field, I was like, what is the matter with
you people? It's I was at that game. I was
sitting in the south south end zone. Um, listen, I
want Nebraska looked like it did before in all areas.
(25:47):
And I think maybe even the fan base has gotten
a little away from that. And just in the last
few years, UM, as a fan base, as a football team,
as a football program. UM, you talked about polite Nebraska
people are. If I was a recruits parent, this is
where I want to send them because of factors like that,
They're not going to get booted in their own stadium,
(26:08):
even if you're a visiting player. UM. There's so many
things special about in Nebraska, but it's best asset is
it's people. And I want the game game day Saturdays
to to look like the game day Saturdays that I remember.
There's there's no doubt that I think college football needs
College football needs Nebraska to be back back to where
it was, especially the Big Ten. That side of the
(26:28):
Big Ten. You said, hey, next year, we think we
can compete for the Big Ten champions or for the
Big Ten West? Right? Was that the was that what
you said? I think it's gonna be a steady build.
I really do. UM. I love the progress that I'm
seeing already on the field. I love how our team
looks completely different physically than they did in January. UM,
(26:50):
but I'm not kicking the can down the road to
next year. We got too many competitive people that want
to prove something and I can't wait for this year
because I think people are gonna cognize the strides that
that this program has made, and I think we're gonna
have a team that's not gonna not just gonna lay
down and look for next year. Um. I can't wait
to start competing this year. But however good we are
(27:12):
this year, we better be better than that the next
year and even better the following. Yeah, did you see
what Tanner said? Tanner Farmer said at at the media
session I think was yesterday said I don't just want
to win a Big ten championship. I don't win the championship.
That's my goal. A lot of people saying winning a
national championship isn't a realistic goal. I'm not about being realistic.
I wanted all go bigger, go home. And then he
dropped the mic, it's not bad. Well, you don't want
(27:34):
any kids playing for you? They don't feel that way. Um,
So I love that he says that. I love that spirit.
We had a whole team full of those guys when
I was playing, and anything short of of the things
that he's talking about wasn't good enough. So if I
can have a hundred fifty kids thinking that way, I'll
take them. Well, listen, we wish you the best of luck.
(27:54):
The schedule makers, did you know favors for people who
haven't been paying attention. You know, of the top teams,
you play Mr Getting on the road. He played Wisconsin
on the road, You play Ohio State in the road,
you play Iowa on the road. This year, you do
you don't get Penn State, uh this year. But man,
that's a there's all sorts of do that's a that's
a doozy. Um. I can't wait for the day when
(28:15):
people are saying, oh, the schedulemakers did us bad. We
have to play in the breath. Great stuff, Scott, thanks
so much for joining us. Look forward to talking to
during the year and can't wait to see your your
football team on September one against Accharin. Appreciate being our guest,
Appreciate it. Thanks Scott Frost, head coach of Nebraska. Great player,
good dude, and I love the there there's you can
(28:38):
tell when somebody's just super confident and focused and not
arrogant and just he knows he's there to do a job.
And that's that's the way I come away from talking
to him feeling, let's get to Dan Buyer, find out
Dan Buyers more on the Errogan side. You know, he's
confident focused, but just kind of like sorry, oh sorry,
I'll try to instruct my stuff during this. The Braves
(29:00):
the Nationals playing a double header today. Nationals right now
up eight two in Game one in the seventh innings,
Bryce Harper as home run number twenty seven on the season.
National starting the day five and a half games back
of the Phillies for first place in the NL East,
while the Braves are just a game back again game
one of a double header. Astros and Giants gonna play
in a little bit in San Francisco. So news from
(29:21):
the NFL and what do you know? An injury at
Chargers camp. Defensive and Joey Bosa suffered a left foot
injury and practice today did not return. He walked off
on his own power, but is expected to be re evaluated.
Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is expected to return to
practice from a quad injury after they face the Eagles
in their preseason opener, while Colts quarterback Andrew Luck could
play the entire first quarter in their preseason opener Thursday
(29:44):
against the Seahawks, And speaking of the Seahawks, head coach
Pete Carroll believes wide receiver Doug Baldwin will play a
week one of the regular season, despite being hampered by
a swordine in camp, des Bryant isn't in camp. That's
because the free age of wide receiver hasn't signed with anyone.
Apparently he's not going to sign with the Cleveland Brown's.
ESPN reports the Browns get the sense that Bryant doesn't
have serious interest. The report adds the team's move to
(30:06):
trade Corey Coleman had nothing to do with Bryant's possible status.
One more for you, Dug. The lawyer for the ex
wife a former Ohio state coach Jack Smith says her
client was never contacted by the school to investigate claims
that the coach abused Courtney Smiths attorney Julia LeVert says
her client never heard from the school after she made
allegations of abuse against her then husband. Leverage editor client
(30:27):
would cooperate with the school's current investigation into the matter.
That strikes me as incredibly odd. Expect you the same. Yeah,
for sure, absolutely, because if you're gonna do it, he said,
she said, you can find out what. Yes, exactly exactly
Why do you think that is? I mean hypothesized for
me for a second. Um, I don't know, maybe they
(30:50):
just didn't want to if they felt that they would
be in the clear and didn't want to face the
reality of it. Maybe that's oh, oh the cops. So
I just thought you meant yeah, or the school, but
the school not call or the cops not call. Um
I believe it was the uh to school. Yeah, yeah,
the school didn't follow up. Um. I there, there's there's
(31:14):
just a lot we don't know. I don't know the
school protocol, right, I don't know whether or not when
a guy is not charged with something, if the school
has to follow you know what I mean? Yeah, Well
that and there was there was some discrepancy to dug
about that police report. You know, so the police were
because there was a question about whether he was arrested
or not arrested, because Brett McMurphy had one piece of
(31:34):
paper that says that he was, and then there was
another report that says that he wasn't. But it was
the school that didn't reach out to her. Look, my
guess this is just a guess. My guess is there's
still some of this will be made more clear. When
we talked, we kind of joked about estdays in fourteen
days and fourteen business days, fourteen days, it'll be made
(31:57):
more clear as to what's what right, as to who
was called, who knew, what do they know? What do
they do about it? Because because look, some of the
things that the school can't do something there there are
privacy laws to which they can't share. There are things
that they're not allowed to investigate on their own and
(32:18):
based upon their own protocol. Sometimes lawyers actually kind of
get in the way. In an effort to make everybody
look good, they make everybody look bad. That said, that
just strikes me as odd. Strikes me as odd that
that the school never followed up, That the school didn't say, Hey,
what do you think? School just took one person's you know,
(32:40):
they just took as you said that he said from
he said, she said, Now, a lot of it depends
upon what they you know, what were the if the
police were called? Do you do the police have to
report to the school? Does he have to report to
the school. There's a lot there's something else here which
it doesn't make I just I find it weird. Something
(33:00):
doesn't make sense, because otherwise it looks like a pattern
of abuse which went completely ignored even though she was
reaching out and asking other coaches wise for help, which
maybe that's what it is, right, Maybe that's what it is,
or maybe there's something else. Maybe there is a boy
who cried wolf element to it to which they could
(33:22):
never seemingly find what she had said had happened to her.
And at some point everybody just started saying, she just
keeps calling the police even if she had a legitimate beef.
But something feels like it doesn't totally makes sense. We've
all had a bad day in the golf course. Sadly,
it's not always easy to fix your golf game, but
it is easy to find a fix for your check
(33:42):
engine light at auto zone. The free Auto Zone Fixed
Finder tool will find the likely issue, saving you money
down the road. Get in the zone Auto Zone. Coming
up next, we'll get into game time. UM. I think
it's just fascinating. Pittsburgh Steelers got a bun you money
locked into two players and one's hurt. How important is
(34:04):
the Steelers offense to their overall success? We'll discuss next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Doug got
Leap Show weekdays at noon Eastern three pm Pacific Doug
got Leap Show, Fox Sports Radio every day. This time
we like to find a way to catch up on
as many things in sports as possible. We call it
(34:25):
this is game time side on the Doug gott Leap Show,
Mr Dan, my friends Doug. Today we have got a
game oh of game of rank okay, a little quick
rankum uh. The of games rankum is actually one of
my one of my favorites. I like big deal, little deal,
No deal like one rank Big Deal, Little Deal, No
(34:49):
Deals Number one rank coms too. What's three? Um? Guess
who who? I don't know? I don't know. Third base
our right rank them. That's where we just rank stuff,
including possible destinations. For one, does Bryant because a report
from ESPN said today that Bryant is not interested in
(35:11):
joining the Cleveland Brown So Doug ranked the top three
landing spots that you think would be good for Des
Bryant or maybe even that team. M I'll go Green
Bay Packers. I have a logic behind that. I'll share
that with you in a second. I'll go Green Bay Packers.
(35:34):
What about New England? New England? Sorry, come on, dude,
New England. Well, the problem with I'll tell you the
problem New England a second and I would say, also
the uh um m hmm. The other one would be
the Seattle Seahawks. Well, look, Seattle Seahawks. Doug Baldwin don't
(35:55):
know how how he's gonna be as far as his
knee is concerned. Um, New England Patriots. The problem there
is is football. Like you you know, Chad Johnson was
a good freelancer, so is Dez Bryant, but he's not
a route runner. Tom Brady's got nowhere he's gonna be.
The reason the Packers makes sense is there's nobody better
throwing a back, back, shoulder or throwing a jump ball
(36:17):
than Aaron Rodgers. And they kind of do have every
other thing. They might just want a competitive dog and
he's you know, they could potentially pay the Cowboys in
the playoffs. That's why I think the Packers being all right, Doug.
I don't think you can go to a team without
a dominant quarterback. I don't think the personalities mixing. At
least two of those teams super Bowl contenders, Green Bay,
New England, Seattle just hoping to make the playoffs. Levy
(36:41):
on Bell is a holdout for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Antonio
Brown has got a quad injury should return to practice
after their preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. So Doug,
let's rank the most important Pittsburgh Steelers on offense. Okay,
Big Ben is three. Levy on Bella's to Antonio Brown.
Oh oh, I actually thought it was gonna be the
(37:01):
opposite order. No, Antonio Brown's best players position in the NFL.
He demands a double team and he still gets open.
He's the best. He's just he's the best. Livian bell
is really really good. Needs a lot of other things
to help him. But and then I think Ben Roethlisberger
is right there. Interest think Ben Roethlisberger number three on
this list. All right, Doug. Tomorrow the NBA schedule will
reportedly be released. Rank the top three NBA games matchups
(37:26):
if you will that you are looking forward to watching
next season. A lot of storylines to follow. Okay, I'm
gonna go, uh well, I'd go Lakers Celtics one, I
go Thunder Warriors too, and then I'd go Warriors, Rockets three.
(37:47):
Oh no, Spurs Raptors for no. I mean, I think
it's a cool story, but no, I mean comparison to
Lakers Celtics, Lebron versus Kyrie Pluses. The two most two
greatest story franchises in the sport Rockets Warriors probably too.
You know, two best teams in the West, Um Warrior Celtics,
by the way, did not make the list somehow. Those
(38:08):
are just options for for you know, just to bring
up ideas. Yeah, actually, you know what I would do,
Warrior Celtics one. Those are the two best teams. I
would do, uh, Rockets Warriors too, and then I would
do Lakers Celtics three. Okay, all right, all right, uh
final one, Doug, since you've never had Mountain dew. We
(38:30):
found that out yesterday at Dallas Cowboys training camp. Rank
your top three soft drinks that you have tasted. Number
one is really easy. Number two is very easy. Number
three is a little harder. There's a list of Cactus
Cooler delicious, um, dr Brown's cell Ray delicious, A and
(38:50):
W root Beer delicious alicious. I'm gonna go a little
a M W root Beer is three root beer. Three,
Poke is number two Classic coke, thank you very much.
And number one? What's number one? Ramoste. If you can
get this, it's not really close for you, I would say, anybody,
any human being any human being. You always said coke, right, Uh? Dad,
(39:14):
if you like coke, you probably like PEPSI I'd say
maybe seven up fire. You want to help in, I
would say diet coke? Man? Is that what it is? Bob?
You want to help out here? Anything? Huh? Best soft
drink you guys? Have you mentioned yet, Run Rupier? No,
I already said you'd like to have both sides and
(39:34):
no and tab soda. By the way, Dr Pepper, I
was going to add something, Dr Pepper? What what? What
are you add? Mr? Pepper or something fake? Now? No, No,
Dr Pepper doesn't have a period after the doctor. Have
you ever noticed that that? Yeah? I didn't know that.
(39:57):
I didn't, Dan, I that is that feel. It's like
it spent it. When did that epiphany come to you?
It's just in you know. And one of those things
where probably a slide show where they said, you know,
these are the hidden things and logos that may have
popped up, but there was no there's no period after
doctor and Dr Pepper. Okay, of the change, the major change.
(40:17):
Where do you get a hamburger from? Oh gosh, I've
been on a five guys kick lately. My wife is
big on five, she's like, and then she hits me
with the you know, I really wanted an outbreaker. I
was like, you can't do both. You can't. This is
this is like mixing Nike and underarm or clothing. All right,
where do you get fries from? If you go five guys,
you fries from five years? Yeah? Yeah, I think that
(40:38):
there are the best. Yeah, there's the best. McDonald's. I
know everybody loves it, but it is pure gut rot
for me. An hour later. Really, the mcdald's fries. I
think you would like McDonald's fries. You used have to.
I want them hot. I will wait and I want
them hot hot. McDonald's fries. Proper amount of salt, and
if you're gonna're you gonna go with like less salt
(40:58):
or more salt. More salt is always the answer. There,
I go there. Um. I mean in terms of burger, yeah,
I'm in and out guy, or I'll do it Carl's JR. Burger.
I like any kind of I'm kind of like wimpy.
I always I like Burger kings Burgers too. Burger kings
Burgers are fantastic. Wendy's Burgers underrated, underrated, Wendy is one
of those like, Wow, I didn't you know what. I
(41:20):
won't turn down a square patty from Wendy's. Although I
don't love their fries. I don't Burger Kings try to
rework their fries ten times over and I don't none
of None of them I'm in love with. But their
burgers are very, very good. It's not uncommon for people
in the press to overreact to a very small group
of idiots. Even still, they were idiots yesterday, full idiotcy
(41:41):
on displaying Columbus. But what does it mean? I'll tell
you next in the Doug Gottlieb Show right here on
Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports
talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows
at Fox sports Radio dot com and within the I
Heart Radio app. Search f s R to listen live.
What Up Tug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to
(42:05):
you from beautiful, sunny southern California. We'll talk about urban
Meyer in Ohio state and the faux protest yesterday in
a moment. First, let me just get down and something
I've seen other people talk about, and I'll just crush
it really quick. I've I've heard this. I've seen it.
I'm actually watching sports station, which I shouldn't do um
(42:28):
to where they're actually asking the question whether or not
it's wrong to suspend players North Carolina from University of
North Carolina for selling their shoes because this is the
we gotta pay players group, to which somehow there is
this misconception that if you give players more money, then
(42:53):
they won't want any more money. Right Like, if you
a fifty dollars a year, but somebody says I'm gonna
give you a sixty, you're not supposed to take it,
But do you take it, I'll give you ten more.
Somehow there's this thought in mind that we're somehow going
(43:14):
to compensate players to the point where they're not going
to want more money unless dumb. Secondly, everybody knows the rules,
and I'm actually more offended. Like North Carolina players get
these sick special Air Jordan threes. They're awesome. First of all,
those are the best Air Jordan's. We can fight if
(43:36):
you want. There are the patent leather ones that I love.
The Air Jordans ones are still classic, but the Air
Jordan three's are widely considered to be the greatest shoe
ever made. And I'm a sneak your head, okay, and
I would I would agree with like, these are things
you can't argue with. Jerry Rice the greatest wide receiver ever. Okay,
(43:57):
Jerry Rice the greatest wide receiver ever. Any lots the
greatest safety ever. Don't argue with me. Dion Sanders the
greatest cover corner ever, and the Air Jordan threes are
the best sneaker ever. And Vince Carter is the greatest
dunker ever. We are not arguing about any of these things.
Please don't start you. I will shut you down with it.
(44:17):
There is no argument to it. You b ba, no no.
Jarrright is the greatest wide receiver every like Okay, Ryan
lets okay, Dion Sanders is the greatest cover corner in
the history of the sport. End of story. Okay, okay,
And oh yeah, by the way, Vince Carter is the
(44:38):
greatest dunker, and the Air Jordan threes are the best
sneakers it. It offends me to my soul, Like, if
you want to have a discussion about whether or not
players should be able to get compensated by having an
autograph session, first of all, to me, there's nothing more
douche than oh I want to get paid for signing
(45:00):
my name. I just I've never liked it. I never
liked it. I know. Yeah. By the way, right now,
autographs have basically gone the way of the dodo. They
have no real value. They just don't. It's better. You're
better off now, taking as somebody would rather have a
selfie now than an autograph, because an autograph was the
selfie before selfies were possible, right, I don't have a
(45:21):
camera signed this piece of paper, so it shows I
met you once upon a time. Truth is, I've always
thought that a handshake is better. Dude, I you know what,
and I shook one time. I actually shook Michael Jordan's
hand and had a conversation with him. I have a
a Michael Jordan's authenticated poster that I got for working
his camp. This goes back over twenty years ago. I
(45:44):
worked as camp at U see Santa Barbara and Michael
Jordan's flight a cat flight school, and I have a
picture next to him. Neither of those has any particular
value to me in all honesty. What does is the
memory of playing a pickup game on the same floor
as Michael Jordan's. The other part is I remember his
rookie year. My dad had worked for text Winner at
(46:06):
Long Beach State, Texas coach of the Bulls, and I
get to meet Michael Jordan's and he told me that
there was nothing in his nothing in the the walkman
that he had, even though he wore headphones everywhere he went,
because that way people would leave him alone. Like that,
I remember more, and it's more meaningful than some autograph.
But I digress. It's one thing to say that you
(46:29):
should have some value which you don't actually have. That's true.
Can anyone name any North Carolina football player? You can't
name ten. I love college football. I can't name ten
college football players off the top of my head. I
had to really think about. You know, but people will
still watch, You'll still go to the games. They still
have season tickets. Do you know why? Because of their jerseys,
(46:53):
because the logos, because the schools. What are we doing
all these people that have in discussion, it's a dumb
discussion because they're lying to you. No one goes to
a game because of a kid. They go to a
game because their school, and maybe the number by the
ranking of that school. And then they learn about the kids.
It's actually the opposite. The truth is that players should
(47:15):
pay for all of the broadcasting we do of their
name and likeness and make them into something that they
previously weren't. We don't just a fair trade anyway. Somebody
gives you a gift, it's one thing to re gift
a gift. It's a whole other thing to sell a gift,
(47:40):
right like you get gifts re gifting. Okay, generally I
don't like to re gift. I'm not gonna sit here
and tell you I haven't re gifted. But the one
thing I will not do is I will not sell
something that you've given to me. That's a complete no no,
regardless of the weather. The fact regards to the fact
that they have been violated and see rules which everyone
knows the rules to be right. Forget the fact that
(48:02):
they get cost of attendants already. They're collecting per diem
daily already, even though most of their meals already provided.
When they eat on campus, if they eat uh at
the training table, it's usually the best place to eat
many of these college towns. Unbelievable food, the best training,
the best way, it's the best gear, the best dorms,
the best of everything. Forget about the fact that we
(48:24):
roll all over themselves already give them money to have
money in their pocket and you get per D money.
Forget about all that for a second. And they're getting
into a school like football players and basket players couldn't
get into North Carolina on their own. North Carolina is
a borderline Ivy League school. It's that good. And nobody
says that it ticks me off, but you know it
takes me off even more. They were given a gift
(48:46):
Nike Air Jordan threes special Carolina Blue on them and
it's one thing to read, gift him, it's nothing to
sell them. How dare any media members somehow caught the
n C A for a rule that has been written
and has been held up for a long time, And
these guys are selling gifts that were given to them
for their use. Dumb argument? All right, speaking of dumb,
(49:11):
they're only like two D people. But this is the
way it works in two in two thousand eighteen, when
there's a small brut protest but it gets put on Facebook,
or it gets put on Twitter or gets put on TV,
we all of a sudden freak out. So The first
thing is this is a There's a hundred thousand plus
fans at Ohio State games on Saturdays, and there's only
(49:33):
like somewhere around a hundred to two hundred people at
this protest rally yesterday. Um, I'm not going to criticize
Ezeki Elliott's dad for showing up and supporting urban Meyer
because Ezeki Elliott has had off the field issues. I'm
not I think you're looking at We're being way. There's
(49:57):
just way too many steps to get to that. What
I am going to be critical of ezekiel It's dad
is the reason why he's showing up and supporting urban Meyer.
Take a listen, Well, anybody abuses a woman is not right,
first and foremost, and I know ierban Meyer would never
condone a woman being abused, So those who abuse women
(50:19):
need to stop right now. But the truth of the matter,
based on what we all know, he handled the situation
according to how his job required him too. So the
whole him in this situation where he gotta deal with
his emotions not being with his boys and representing his
university with the utmost integrity is wrong. Yeah, the problem
(50:43):
is that he's right. Everyone believes that domestic violence is wrong.
And if he definitely went through the proper channels, I
think I could understand some support. But the idea that
Ezeki Elliott's father knows what urban Meyer did is laughable.
(51:04):
That's the problem with it. We don't know. That's why
they're conducting an investigation. Also, the idea is, even if
he did go through the proper channels twofold one, he
allowed a guy to be around the program that had
multiple calls from his wife. Like, that's just a bad look.
Just is like when there's that much smoke, you think
(51:26):
there's some fire. But okay, let's say he didn't do
what we what the pictures and the digital evidence links
him be doing, okay, or maybe he did but urban
Meyer kicked it up the food chain or whatever. Um,
How come irban Meyer doesn't get criticized for blatantly and
(51:47):
obviously lying to the media and walking himself into this corner.
These wounds are self inflicted. I mean, look the idiocy
of having fake news signs and ESPN a s and
didn't even break the story right. Brett McMurphy was let
go from ESPN and works for Satellite Now and a
Stadium Now excuse me and put the story out on Facebook.
(52:12):
So the the idea that ESPN somehow is fake news.
By the way, ESPN conduct an interview. But I'm defending
a company I used to work for. And to the
idiot who put the hashtag me too and then had
it about football, I don't like who creates these these
(52:32):
It's not that if you know everything and you want
to support your coach, that's fine, but you don't know,
so you're blindly supporting based upon what you think and
what you want, not what you know. The crazy part
about it is this is more the right. This is
(52:54):
more of the people who are you know, anti me too,
anti you know, and they think, look, this is nothing
but lynch mob mentality, and we're going after anybody associated
with anything ever. H But they're going with their feelings,
not with the facts. Right, Isn't that their argument always?
(53:16):
Isn't that the rights argument for the left of the
left always goes with feelings, not with facts. That's what
the right is doing. That's what these people are doing.
They go with feelings. I think I know you don't
know anything. You think you know rban Meyer, Why because
he recruited your son and coach your son for three years.
You don't know anything nothing. Did you know that Zack
(53:36):
Smith was accused of these things erban Meyer did and
apparently didn't do anything about it. Even if Zack Smith
didn't do what he's accused of doing, the fact that
he was still around the program not getting therapy, that
Ermier didn't step in and say at the pointy and said, look,
I knew this is a toxic relationship. I urged Zach
(53:56):
time and again to get out of it because ultimately
it would him to a head, and he did not
now that he lost his job. Instead, he told us
he didn't know anything about it, which he obviously did
if we're to believe his story. So a man who
can lie to the country at Big ten media Day
can't lie to you because you've coached his son. Okay, sure,
(54:24):
sure stuck out the show. Fox Sports Radio Online car
shopping can be confusing. Not a more true price from

more confident car buying experience. Daniel Jeremiah joins us up
coming next he's expecting big things. Big things, uh from
(54:48):
from the Chargers. But the Chargers are the Chargers, and
Joey Bosa left practice with a foot injury today, Will
the Chargers be the Chargers or will they be something else?
By out next be sure to catch live editions of
the Doug got Leap Show weekdays at noon Eastern three
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
(55:10):
Radio app Doug Gotlip Show Fox Sports Radio as part
of their broadcast team for the Chargers. You also see
him in the NFL Network. I bring it up because
it feels like Groundhog Day when we hear Joey Bosa
goes down with an injury of foot injury a practice
day for the Chargers. Outside of an important missfield goal,
(55:34):
the other thing you can count on with the Chargers
is a really important injury in the preseason. You got
any word on how bad this deal is with the
NFL network this morning doing some work and we're just
driving home and kind of found out about it just
within the last fifteen or twenty minutes, so I had
a chance to make a phone call. I hopefully it's uh,
hopefully it's it's no big deal and just gonna get
(55:56):
get some get some rest, and get healed up. But
the foot thing, I mean, your automa actually goes to
some places that aren't good. Yeah, no, no. I I
reached out via text and the response I got was,
I think it's gonna be okay, but don't know for sure.
So uh who knows? Um okay? If let's say Bosa
is fine. Yeah, but they did lose Hunter Henry. There's
(56:18):
been a lot of talk about the Chargers. How good
could this team? Bell? I think when you look at
the a FC, you know you've still got the Patriots
there at the very top of that. When you start
looking at who's the competitors for the throne, I e.
The Charges are in that mix of teams, you know
you probably got Jacksonville Pittsburgh in there as well as
the teams that come right to mind. But the way
the Charges finished up the year last year, after starting
(56:40):
off and four, they were playing as well as anybody
in the league. They've got pass rushers and they've got
a veteran quarterback that can play at a high level.
That's usually a pretty good recipe. Dana Jeremiah joining us
in the Doug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
A lot of talk about Odell Beckham Jr. Potentially Signing
the biggest contract in the history of sport for a
wide receive before the season ever starts. Let me just
(57:02):
get your thoughts on the Giants. You know, they chose
to go running back for immediate help as opposed to
quarterback for long term security. Um and they and they
fixed they try to fix their offensive line. Did they
Did they accomplish those goals in terms of of stabilizing
themselves and making themselves competitive in the nfcas well? I
definitely they're gonna be competitive. I mean, when you look
(57:24):
at every roster in the league, you kind of find
your what your concern is. And I still look at
their offensive line and there's still issues to me. I mean,
I like Will Hernandez, who they brought into like Nate Soldier,
but when you go centered all the way out to
right tackle, there's some concerns there. And especially when you're
in a division with the Eagles and and all the
defensive line talent they can throw at you. That would
be my my reservation. The only thing you know, I
(57:47):
had s Kwon Barkley, is that my top player in
the draft. But I would have probably still taken a
quarterback there and Sam Donald, who I felt strongly about.
So uh that to me, we're gonna have to wait
and see how Sam Donald plays and then eventually how
to wait and see what Davis Webb ever becomes to
find out if that was the right decision or not.
Do you do you start Sam dal right away? I
(58:10):
think so as long as as long as it's close.
Everything I've heard of there from training camp is that
has been positive. I mean, even when he makes a mistake,
he's incredibly resilient. He goes right back out there and he's, uh,
he's fine. So he's made some big time throws. He's athletic,
he can create some plays with his legs. And to me,
just the young quarterbacks, to me, if you feel comfortable
(58:30):
with their mental toughness, that they're gonna be able to
survive some of the rocky road they're gonna have, then
I say you can put them out there. And everything
I hear seems like that's what Sam Donald's been showing.
It doesn't feel like you get the same vibe from Cleveland.
Do you think it's that they're a little disappointed and
how good he is, uh Baker Mayfield is or do
you think it's John Dorsey comes from Kansas City. Kansas
(58:51):
City redshirted Pat Mahomes for sixteen weeks, played in a
week seventeen, and then handed him the team. Is it
trying to recreate them home situation or the little discipline
into Baker. Well, look, there's a million different ways to win,
there's a million different ways to developed players. But you
always go back to what's comfortable. And with Dorsey you gotta,
I mean, you go back to Green Bay when he
was there with Aaron Rodgers. He had a front row
(59:11):
seat to see the benefits of sitting uh in developing there,
and you saw it with Mahomes. My thing is, though,
man Baker Mayfields played a ton of football. Um, so
there shouldn't be I know, it's a it's a it's
a jump from college NFL. But when you look at
all these quarterbacks, you kind of know what you've got
with him more than anybody else. So the fact that
he's not even not even mentioned as a competitor for
(59:32):
the job, this is Tyrod Taylor's job and that's it.
Um for the first overall pick, that's just it's kind
of unusual. And then they got Myles Garrett, who had
he had to take a VET day like the second
day of camp. Not just that's that's last year's number one.
I was actually I was, you know, with the chargest thing.
I was out there at their practice the other day
and I asked Casey Hayward. I said, so you're getting
(59:55):
a VET day every now and then? He's not yet. Man,
you've been in seven years, like that should get you
a VET. He goes, Now, I think I gotta get
to ten. So apparently there's different rules for vettings depending
on what team you're with. Yeah, I guess are you
with the Browns Doug Otie Show here on Fox Sports Radio? Um,
give me, give me your sins. Here's a team that
I don't think enough people are talking about Tampa. You know,
(01:00:15):
your quarterbacks just spent in first three weeks of this season.
They got Ryan Fitzpatrick that remade their defense. How do
we how do we view Tampa team that had a
massive kind of let down year last year? Well, I mean,
you can't talk about Tampa without figuring out what's gonna
happen with Jamis when he comes back off this is mentioned?
Does he get that job back? Uh? You know they
have a brutal stretch their first three games or against
(01:00:37):
three outstanding teams, So they could very easily start out
oh and three and then be kind of real and
trying to recover from that. But you know, the Jamis
things got to sort itself out. I do think defensively,
they're gonna be a lot better. You know, Jason Pierre
Paul is one of the elite pass rushers and one
of the elite defensive players in the league, and it
seems like nobody's You're right, nobody has talked about them,
and they haven't talked about him specifically either. When you
(01:00:58):
look at that defensive line, they've re made the whole thing.
They've got some nice young pieces in the secondary. I
think they'll be much improved on that side of the ball.
It's just again gonna come down to, you know, can Fitzpatrick.
If Fitzpatrick can get one win out of those first
three games, I would be uh. I'd expect that he
starts week four even when Jamis comes back. What's you're
taking the aeron donald situation. It feels like, you know,
(01:01:22):
there's all this optimism. It'll get done, you know, once
we get to the UH, once we get closer to
week one. I just think right now, the motivation for
each party to to kind of cave or to give
in isn't there because Donald has shown he can show
up right before the season starts and play at a
high level. So there's no there's no pressure on him
that he feels like he has to give in order
to get something done right now in the club doesn't
(01:01:44):
feel any pressure either because you know they can get
him out there, get it done right before the season starts.
So I do think it'll get done. I don't think
it will happen until probably the week of the first game.
Daniel Jeremiah joining us from the NFL Network. Of course,
Move the Sticks is the podcast kind of spending time
with this year on the Doug Gottlief Show on Fox Sports. Ready,
we're a big Cowboys camp yesterday, and you know, look,
(01:02:07):
any camp you go to, they're gonna be optimistic. But
it appears as though they've done gone away from having
the alpha true number one wide receiver and trying to
do an ensemble cast, changing tight ends as belt like
Blake Jarwins much younger, Rico Gathers is younger. But are
they as can their athleticism make up for the football
(01:02:28):
like you of of Jason Witten. Let's let's just start
with the offensive side of the football. What are your
thoughts on what they choose chosen to do in terms
of the targets, the vasty of targets for Dak Prescott,
I think it's a I think it's a grab bag
of Okay, I just I think about it from the
other side. If you're playing the Dallas Cowboys, obviously you
(01:02:50):
know you gotta try and stop the run. But then
after you start talking about that, okay, we're gonna get
in some obvious passing situations. I guess you can spin
it and say it's a positive because there's no you know,
primary target, but that to me is a major negative.
I just don't have anything I can grab onto in
this in this offense. Is when you look at this
passing game, there's just there's nothing that scares me from
(01:03:11):
the defensive side, that's for sure. Yeah, it's it's really
weird that way, is it that that that that uh,
that just doesn't it seems to just be a bunch
of dudes. I don't know. If I don't know I'm
expressing it the right way. Is that a fair way
to express it. No. After that's that, I talked to
a buddy that was, uh, you know it's in the
media that that that rolled through there, that has has
the history and and and knows the game really really well,
(01:03:33):
and he just said, man, it's just it's just blah,
like there's just nothing out there that excites you that
in terms of the passing game. And that's to me,
that's kind of the way it looks like from the outside,
and let's get him out there on the field and maybe,
you know, we'll see some of these young guys pop.
It'll kind of jump out of the pile. It's happened before.
But just when you know what you know about these
guys going into the season right now, it doesn't get
you very excited. I'm not a huge Lamar Jackson guy.
(01:03:55):
Everybody says Flacco looks great. I do think you lose
use Lamar Jackson as a lash uh just Flacco. Do
you think Flacco can keep his job all season? I
think as long as they're as long as they're competitive,
and as long as they're winning enough to stay in
the hunt. Here that as of right now, it looks
like Flacco it since you know he's got the keys
to the car. I seen that switching based off everything
(01:04:17):
we've seen and heard so far, would be if the
season gets away from him and now you're sitting there saying, hey,
I'm John hardball. Have them been in the playoffs and
four in the last five years, I've got to sell
something for how why I should come back and heard
another year here? And usually that's when you go with
a young quarterback and try and sell that. Dannya Jeremiah
joining us on the Doug Gottlib Show here on Fox
(01:04:37):
Sports Radio. I don't know. Um, I feel like the
Falcons figured it out late last year, like they just
hit all of a sudden started to click. Am I
Am I wrong to think they're a team that more
people should discuss as super Bowl caliber, where Like, look,
I I know it wasn't Uh, it wasn't the starting quote.
You know, you didn't have the starting quarterback of the
(01:04:59):
Philadelphia Goes. But I mean, hell, they're one play away
from beating Eagles in Philadelphia. Are people underselling Atlanta cares?
You should be nervous about with that? With that prediction
is that I had to go through and put records
on every team in the league, and I had the
Falcons going thirteen and three, which means there's no chance
they're going to go thirteen and three. So that would
(01:05:20):
be why it won't happen, because look at my paper,
I'm like, how good is this team? These guys are loaded?
How do they not win twelve thirteen games? I know that,
I know the division stuff, I get it, but man,
they are loaded right now. So to me, I think
they should have a great year. But usually when I
try and pick one of these teams like this and
put a huge record prediction on it like that, uh,
(01:05:41):
it comes back to fight me. So that's I would
just I would urge some caution there. All right, how
about this one, Um, Kirk Cousins has never had this
type of weaponry and they have a really good defense.
Uh does does does Kirk Cousins you know, give the
finger to Washington finally by achieving something in the playoffs
because of that surrounding weapon ry, I think Kirk Cousins
(01:06:01):
is gonna have a huge year. Uh. And to me,
I I was kind of laugh at this because there's
been people saying, oh, you know, the pressure, you know,
I don't know Kirk Cuttin's never gonna have won thirteen
games last year. That's a lot of pressure. I'm like,
let's not make this more complicated than it is. This
team he's joining is infinitely more talented than any team
he's ever had the opportunity to play with. If you
(01:06:21):
want pressure, pressures last year, when you're playing the Saints
and he's meeting some of his offensive teammates are going
to start in that game twenty four hours before the
game is played, that's pressure. Playing with a bunch of
Pro bowlers and a great defense and the Tower and
running backs, that's not pressure. Daniel Jeremiah joining us somewhere
from the carpool lane, I believe on this way headed
home to San Diego. Is the is the fire out?
(01:06:43):
Did you pass the Tributal Canyon fire? Dude? I saw.
I saw a lot of fire, a lot of smoke,
uh driving up to uh the Culver City this morning,
and then in my room view mirror, I don't know.
I couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was, but the sky
was was definitely smoking. Yeah, Mother nature was very very angry.
Let's get together soon. Be a Charger camp on Thursday.
On Thursday will be out there. I'll give you my report,
(01:07:04):
to give you my text report you my thought. Thanks
so much for me, d J. I appreciate you, all right.
That's Daniel Jeremiah Moved the Sticks. Is the podcast checking
on the NFL network or downloaded? Um, it's a really
really good pod. Hey, who else is really good? Dan
Buyer has his own show on the weekends. It's awesome.
Hey Dan, what he got? Hey Doug? How about a
really good baseball player? Some may want to argue, but
(01:07:26):
I still think Bryce Harper is pretty good. Here's the pitch,
so we're gonna line drive left field. That's a big
sit one up to a Conia Turner will score. Suto
holds a second, and Bryce Harper, with a fist pump
at first base, rockets another base hit to the opposite field.
He's got seventy r bis. So the Nationals lead six
to two. R B I s R r B I
(01:07:46):
I go both ways. Excuse me? We had that recorded,
rom I believe did you hear what Dan just said?
He goes both ways? John knows it well. He Bryce Harper.
By the way, in the highlight there are the Nationals
radio network also hit home run number twenty seven earlier
in the game. Nationals beat the Braves today eight to
(01:08:07):
three in game one of a double header. Big for
the Gnats because they can gain some ground taking care
of the Braves. Right now, they're five back of the
Phillies after today's win, three and a half back of
the Braves for second in the NL East. Giants are
routed out the Astros one nothing in the fourth inning
in San Francisco while in the NFL Chargers defense event.
Joey Bosa suffering a left foot injury and practice today,
(01:08:29):
didn't return, but did walk off on his own power.
Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is expected to return to
practice from a quad injury after they faced the Eagles
in their preseason opener. The lawyer for the ex wife
of fullbor Ohio state coach Jack Smith sissor client was
never contacted by the school to investigate claims that the
coach abused her in Julia Leverage, did say your client
would cooperate with the school's current investigation into the matter.
(01:08:51):
And the nine NBA schedule set to be released tomorrows
we'll find some of the matchups or all of the
matchups for the upcoming season actually bought two front row
seats to the Celtics. It's kind of game of your
choice type of deal at a charity auction. So I'm
fired up to see the Celtics schedule because I'm gonna
me and my guy are gonna go out there. You know,
(01:09:11):
we're gonna go out there when you go see the
Celtics front row. Like, if you could see the Celtics,
who would you want to see them against Warriors Lakers? Yeah,
to see a Celtics Lakers game is I think that's
that's the one that you'd want to go. That's the one,
especially with Lebron there. Now, Yeah, what if we go
(01:09:33):
in Lebron doesn't play, you know, don't play right, I remember,
remember he helped two years ago. He didn't, he didn't.
He didn't play like ten games when he went to Memphis,
you know. And my thing was always like, I don't
care if you skip a home game or if you
skip a game against the team you play like ten times,
but skipping like the one time you go to Memphis.
Plus it's like Memphis, right, correct didn't feel it, didn't
(01:09:54):
feel great about it. All Right, I have a little
game I want to play with you guys. Okay, I'm
gonna say a guy's name and you tell me if
you can tell me anything about it, anything about it. Okay,
these are all college football players, college football players, and
we all work in sports. Daniel hosted You have Dan
(01:10:16):
has a great memory. All right. So Jared Stidham, Auburn
quarterback transferred from Baylor. Nice, very nice. Trace McSorley Penn State.
Feels like he's been there for a long time, doesn't he?
Trace McSorley feels like he feels like the who does?
He feel like, who's the guy who's been in a
(01:10:37):
what's the what's who's synonymous with being in a place?
Perry Ellis, He feels like a Peri Ellis type of guy.
Rashan Gary m hm Okay, Jonathan Taylor, you should know
John Nick Bosa? You know Nick Bosis? Right, Dexter Lawrence
anything Clemson, Clemson? Right? Christian Wilkins um, Will Greer, West
(01:11:06):
Virginia right from transfer from Florida? Why do you transfer? Um?
Didn't everybody transfer was? Oh yeah, that's right. He was
really good. Then he has steroid suspension. His brothers are
like YouTube sensations. Yes, and he's I mean like he'll
have a chance the Heisman, Bryce Love, we know who
that is. And at Oliver Yeah, Houston. Yeah. My point
(01:11:27):
is that those the ten biggest name college football players
in the country, and we know them because right like
I want to my my My point is really and
and uh to to buy a logo. By the way,
is number eleven on this list, which he probably is
number one or number two in terms of most known,
(01:11:49):
even though he's known basically for one pass or one half.
But I mean, you start digging deep in this and
I say, Damien Harris, people are like heard of it,
don't know Justin Herbert, remember Justin Herbert. Oregon quarterback Jake
Browning is one of those guys. Feels like he's been
there forever for Washington. He's a pere Elois guy. Nick
Fitzgerald Fitzgerald, I think he's a juniors quarterback. Sorry, sorry
(01:12:14):
Mississippi State, my sincere apologies. Khalil Tate, I know, but
I know because I'm a I stay up late watched
not to throw it, but to run it. He can
really really run it. I'll be interested to see how
he works with Kevin Summon. My point is that there's
a there's a several there's so many misconceptions in sports,
(01:12:34):
and that if you say it enough, somehow it becomes fact. Right.
It's that's basically what the president has has figured out.
Like you say, fake news, fake news, fake news, fake news.
People like, you know what, it's all fake new. He's like, well,
that's not even close to being the true true. But
if you say it enough, somehow it becomes true. Right.
(01:12:55):
So if you say, hey, all these guys names and
likeness are valuable, people are coming to see them play. Like, dude,
you ask anybody us of college football fans you fired
up to see Will Greer play? They're like, who oh,
the guy went to Florida. Where do you go West Virginia?
Are they any good? Yeah, they're pretty good. Okay, Like
(01:13:18):
would you really are you gonna spend money to go
see Will Greer play? Probably not until he's five six
seven and oh he gets promoted with the Heisman Trophy
campaign and then you're like, okay, now I'll watch him
so some My My point is not to diminish any
of these super talented college will players, who many of
whom will be NFL players. My point is more to
(01:13:43):
point out like those are the biggest names in college football,
and me and buy are showing off what we know.
One shows up how big geeks we are, but two
only points out that I think many of you are.
I have no idea who these guys are. That's because
that's what college sports does, That's what television does. We
are a promotional unit for the players and their schools.
(01:14:07):
You tune in to see laundry, and you learn about
the players. You learned about the players. Alright, Doug Gotlip
Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next. Skip
Bayliss says Baker Mayfield reminds him of Tim Tebow, just
not the way you think. That's next. Be sure to

(01:14:50):
Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. M m m uh,
there's a lot to get to today. Tell you what
we found every day. This time we find for you
a portion of a TV show, radio show, Fox Sports Radio,
Fox Sports One. We call it the Fox Say. Um.
(01:15:15):
This was Skip Bayliss earlier today as Uh. He was
talking about Baker Mayfield and he had a comparison between
Baker Mayfield and Tim Tebow. Take a listen. Baker Mayfield
in a way reminds me of Tim Tebow, just in intangibles,
not tangibles, but intangibles. Baker Mayfield is a force of nature,
(01:15:38):
which is what I always called Tim Tebow. But Baker
Mayfield has a whip of an arm right which Tim
Tebow did not have. Baker Mayfield is deadly accurate, which
Tim never was until the last four or five minutes
of those games in Denver. Baker Mayfield is a ball
of leadership fire. People follow him into battle, and the
(01:15:58):
tougher the task, the greater the battle, the crazier, great
crazy he gets. So as Tebow would go kind of
psycho Tebow, as we saw occasionally in college and sometimes
in pro football, Brady's got that psycho Tom thing. Baker
Mayfield has that thing going on. So I don't think
you can knock him down where he can't get up.
I don't think the pressure will be too great, the
(01:16:20):
expectation will be too great, or that the hard knocks
will be too hard on him. I think he will
get back up. Look, all of those things are probably accurate,
probably accurate. And as much as tangibles, intangibles are important.
The intangibles your make up, your leadership, your moxie, these
(01:16:41):
things are important. You know it's important. Tangibles. You gotta
have the goods. And when you're a guy that likes
to move around back there, when you're less less athletic
than many at your position, when you're smaller at many
than people at many many people at your position, and
your arm strength, you here's what you hear about his
arm strength surprising. You don't hear good. You hear surprising. Hey,
(01:17:07):
he's a little bigger than we thought. In other words,
he's still small. He's just bigger than we thought. His
arm strength surprising. That did to me is good. It's
just better than a popcum arm. Look, I think Baker
Mayfield has I agree with all of those things that
Skip had to say, but let's be very very sure
about this thing. You can't have all tangibles but you
(01:17:29):
also can't have all intangibles, and Chad Pennington all intangibles.
But once the tangibles went away when he had the
shoulder problem, couldn't play anymore. I've actually think that's the
that's the comp The difference is Chad Pennton is much bigger,
much bigger, going to be fastening to see how he
plays with the Browns um And then there was this
(01:17:53):
Colin Cowherd and I went back and forth about the
Giants brand. Here's Colin Calherd on Now Odell Beckham Junior
doesn't fit who the Giants are. K Giants for the
last four years have never been comfortable with Odell Beckham.
And there's a reason they've never been comfortable. They like
the idea of being married to Odell Beckham, but they
have been and they've been uncomfortable. The New York Giants
(01:18:17):
in a City of Stars are the most boring great
franchise ever four Super Bowls. They even got the most
boring manning in the family. I mean, if you look
at the history of the New York Giants, look at
their stars, Mark Bovarro, Phil McConkie, David Tyree, Jeff Hoss Stetler,
Phil Simms, anybody, anybody got an espresso. Even your stars
(01:18:41):
are boring. Odell Beckham is everything. The New York Giants
are not flashy, crazy, unpredictable. I mean, if I say
Odell Beckham and you start listing his the things that
come to your mind one hand, catch a boat, blunt
(01:19:03):
model and blow in a hotel room in Paris, being
in an end zone, proposing to a net. That's his brand.
And by the way, the Dallas Cowboys probably comfortable with it.
L A. Ram Is probably comfortable with it. A lot
of teams comfortable. Miami Dolphins comfortable with it. The New
York Giants are an accounting firm in cleats. It is
(01:19:25):
the most boring, conservative great franchise of American sports. But
when they were great, they had Lawrence Taylor. Right. It's
not that they can't, uh, it's not that they can't
have guys who are colorful, who are personalities. It's that
many times they haven't, and some of that is based
upon selection. I would also say this to counter whether
(01:19:47):
or not he fits with their brand. Their brand has
been Eli Manning. Do everything we can to make Eli
look good, and nothing makes you look better than a
guy who can catch everything thrown his way, the guy
that can take a five yard in cut all the
way to the house. I wouldn't give him a long
term deal before the season began. We said this going
(01:20:08):
back to last week. We'll say it now. I'll say
it until they give him. It's not that you, it's
a formality. You'll likely give him an extension. I also
probably wouldn't pay him more than any other player to
play what the wide receiver position. What I would do
is I allowed him to prove it on the field
that all these great things you hear about him in
training camp, they become part of the regular season discussion.
(01:20:30):
How does he handle when Eli Manning plays poorly? How
does he handle when he plays poorly? How does he
handle celebrating touchdowns? How does he handle the trash talk
from other teams? If you can handle all those things
and being his explosive of playmakers he's been during his
first three years as an NFL player, get the money,
but I'm not buying the two months of good behavior
when there's no football games to be played. Somehow makes
(01:20:52):
you a saint. We had a great discussion off air
some on air about favorite SODA's favorite burgers. I had
tacos at home last night. We made great tacos in
my house, but I was just thinking about how good
my burgers are making home. Am I the only guy
that makes the biggest, fattest patty possible? Like so much
(01:21:14):
so that it's like uncomfortable, Like my wife's like, why
are you just why do you? Why don't she just
make two? Or I could just make one? Right? Um,
you have to toast the buns. I feel like that's
a necessity, even the buns are super fresh. I feel
like toasted buns or something you can do on your grill.
It's really really easy. I would never say no to it.
(01:21:35):
Cheese burger the only time you say no to cheese
burger for your lactose intolerant. Really, let's be honest. Cheese
and burger just goes together. Just goes together. Cheese is
Cheese is the dairy products what peanut butter is to
everything else. Right, Cheese makes everything taste better, so does
peanut butter. By the way, you can put peanut butter
in a cheese burger cheese, big fat piece of slice
(01:21:58):
of tomato. A pickle is optional, but a pickle really
good Again, not great by itself in a burger amazing
and yeah, look, catch up, you might do mustard, you
might do mayo. Hungry are you right now? Yeah? So
I'm doing this weekend. Let's think about the barbecue thing
and like, man, I forget the barbecue. I'm just gonna
grill tasty, tasty burgers. Uh. Steve Smith came out and
(01:22:24):
shared some personal details of his playing days in the
National Football League. I almost feel like we're misreporting this.
That plus my thoughts on Lebron James taking over Hollywood.

Up Doug got Leave Show Fox Sports Radio. One of
the smartest men in foot ball speak out in support
of Lebron, but in support of staying away from the President.
(01:23:06):
We'll get to that in a second. Plus I'll give
you my thoughts on Lebron and the massive l A
takeover first though. This is Look, there's no easy way
to talk about this topic, but we're gonna talk about
Steve Smith, like which, Steve Smith. It's a very good question, Steve.
If I say, Steve Smith, Sr. You know what that is? Right?
(01:23:28):
NFL network? Do you still with the endup on network?
I think so. Steve Smith, former wide receiver Carolina Panthers
Baltimore Ravens, came out and said, Hey, look, I struggle
with my mental health late in my career. I went
and got helped. Steve Smith was known as an incredibly
fiery personality, at times hard to deal with. Got into
(01:23:50):
a brutal fight with one of his teammates once in
training camp. In a piece published um I think that
the WAD NFL dot Com, Steve Smith said, quote, despite
all of my achievements, I a routinely felt trapped, inferior
and alone. This overwhelmed me internally and often left me mentally,
(01:24:11):
physically and emotionally broken. He was twice an all pro,
he said, I asked often asked myself, what's wrong with me?
Smith said his final season with the Carolina Panthers, he
was so overwhelmed he didn't know how to handle his emotions,
and he was quote a cynic of everything and everyone.
He began meeting with a counselor, he got treated for depression.
(01:24:35):
He urges others to stop trying to deal with the
serious matters alone. He said. After um in two thousand
threes the Panthers won the NFC championship game, he said
he should have felt elated, but instead he felt upset
because he couldn't get over himself, couldn't get ahold of himself,
excume me, couldn't even get myself to hold the conference trophy.
(01:24:58):
We earned the opportunity to become world champion, but in
that victory, I felt defeated because it didn't play well.
Here's the part to which it's really really hard. Is
a thin line there, the thin line there. So I'll
just be like, what what I suffered from in college
(01:25:21):
was some form of anxiety depression stage fright, which started
with my free throw shooting and end up affecting all
of my shooting. And as I got help for it,
as I saw a counselor, and I'm a better person
because of it, do you know what I've lost? Kind
(01:25:43):
of lost my edge? Like, um, I just I just did.
I was somebody who it was almost solely about winning
and losing. That's it, winning and losing I want to
win everything. I still have the competit of gene, the
competitive fire, but it's not as edgy as before. And
(01:26:04):
I guess my question to Steve Smith, and this would
be an honest question that I would follow up with,
is would he have accomplished all he accomplished in football
if not for his lack of mental health? Does that
make sense? Remember we talked to Cole Beasley yesterday and
I was like, cool, how do you do what you do?
Cole Beasley? Is I think he's listed a five nine
(01:26:27):
or five ten, Yeah, he's he. Look, I'm barely six
ft tall. I'm several inches taller than Cole Beasley. And
I asked him, like, Cole, how do you how do
you line up know when you're gonna get slabber knocked,
line up knowing that you know sometimes you're getting sandwiched
in between two guys? How do you do what you do?
(01:26:48):
When he was undrafted free agent out of SMU, how
do you do that? And he said like, you gotta
be a little bit off to do what I do.
And I actually think that's the same him for Steve Smith.
Then the other question would be if you could go
back and fix your mental health earlier in your career,
(01:27:09):
earlier in your life, but you wouldn't have had the
success that you had. Would you do it? Would you
do it by? What do you think about that one?
Like the the idea that I'm not disputing. Steve Smith
was off right. He wanted to fight everybody, teammates, other
team you know, clearly was not comfortable socially. Um, and
(01:27:32):
we thought it was funny. We don't think it was funny.
And even now with the NFL network, he'll call it
like he sees any calls dudes out, like he's always
been a little bit off. I just wonder if you
asked him, as heart of hearts, hey, if you could
fix it earlier, but it would hurt your career, you
had half the career you had, would you do it?
What do you think his answer would be? I think
you would want to fix it. I think it probably
(01:27:55):
bothered him and and you would take the lesser career,
especially if it was hurting others. You talked about the fight.
I think that there would be regret for it with it, um,
I don't know. I think that would be regret, But
I think that explaining it is is a is a
big thing. It's it's it really is fascinating. And I
also think this this helps some of that argument that
(01:28:18):
that some will make about the safety or lack there
of it in football. Whereas people will say, well, like, look,
these some of these guys are just look they've lost
their mind after they get done playing, like you know,
to play football. A lot of these guys they're not
wired altogether the same as normal human beings. You can't be.
And if you don't get mental health help at a
young age, you know it, it manifests itself in stronger
(01:28:40):
and stronger ways as you age, right, you don't fix
it early. People just go, well, he's a football players
kind of wired a little bit differently. And then you know,
then you kind of spiral down a path and maybe
you sustained a head injury, but you're already off before
the head injury. Does that make any sense in that argument? Yeah,
I just I I understand like it may give them
an and I hate to use this term because I
(01:29:02):
just think it's but give them an edge or they
wouldn't be the player that they are. Um, yeah, I
just I don't think that mental health I well, there
may seem like a parallel. I don't know if if
there is. I think about the twenty one other hours
of the day dug instead of like the three hours
during the game, and I guess I would I know,
like when you try to take one or the other,
(01:29:24):
I'd rather have the other twenty one hours be better
than have just those three, if you know what I mean. Yeah,
that that's that's how I would look at it. Let
me give you a couple of other things here for
I circle back to le Bron do gotlip show. Fox
Sports Radio UM Aaron Rodgers sat down with Mike Silver
from NFL dot Com and he was talking about the
(01:29:45):
anthem and social issues. Rogers said this, following practice yesterday.
Last year was definitely a different year. I think you're
finally seeing a lot of crossover social media in the NFL.
Obviously the league is worried about its ratings everything, but
it seems that with the district shian from the TV
networks that everybody's doing pretty well. But it's interesting to
see how moments like that can be impetuous for guys
(01:30:09):
coming together and getting some perspective. He said this of
Lebron James, he knows he has support of his contemporaries
in his sport and in others. Um Rogers said, when
she love to see one of these NFL owners when
somebody disrespects our flag, say get that s ob on
(01:30:32):
the field right now. He's firefed. He was. He was
quoting Donald Trump. Yeah, I've seen a ton of that
on social media, not really in person. I wouldn't mind
have a conversation about that. In person. I don't shy
away from that stuff, but it definitely a lot online
and I don't need to respond to that. I really don't,
because it's giving credence to an opinion and value to
(01:30:53):
an opinion that's way off base because they've missed the
point about what it's all about. I don't know how
many times times we can say, as a player, as
a group, how much we love and support and appreciate
the troops and the opportunity of the country allows us.
But this is about equality and something bigger than ourselves.
He basically says, like, look, I think that the more
(01:31:18):
we give credence and stuff like this, the more it's
gonna live. And he's talking about about Trump. I think
we learned to ignore and not respond to stuff like that.
I think we can't. It takes away from the power
of statements like that. So his idea is, and this
has always been my thing, that that it's what the
president has done is a little bit of a dog whistle,
(01:31:40):
and it's also trying to incite players to take a need.
That's what he did last year with his s ob comment.
And when Aaron Rodgers saying is like, look, I understand
that you want to be, you know, an avid supporter
on social media, but it doesn't come across the way
you wanted to come across. And maybe the best thing
(01:32:01):
is to just ignore it and to do what you
want to do and be who you want to be.
I think the problem with that is we're the in
the machismo world of football. Somebody talks trash to you,
you want to back it up right, You want to
come right back at them. You want to clap back
if you will. Actually, here's what I want to do. Well,
(01:32:24):
I guess coming up next? Yeah, we got nixt Swisher, next,
swish her next, all right after Swisher, I think I
got the best comparison for the player who is exactly
like Donald Trump. There's a there's a professional sports athlete
and a great one who is Donald Trump. I'll get
(01:32:47):
to that one, but up coming next, Nick Swisher is
gonna be our guest that that's an aside. Huh huh.
We've all had a bad day in the golf course. Sadly,

ever in the history of professional sports. We'll get Nick
swishers thoughts on how Major League Baseball has got caught
up in the scheduling disaster that's up coming next. Be

Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, Sean says Gottlieb Show is
gonna compare Trump to Tara Owens. Nope, that's not it,
(01:34:18):
not it. I told you before the break. I know
exactly who Donald Trump is as a professional athlete, really
really good one. Nick Swishers calling in a minute. Huh.
So the question be comes, do I tap dance for
a minute and wait for wish or do I give
you this? You'll you'll love this, You'll love this. We've
all had a bad day on the golf course. Sadly,
(01:34:39):
it's not always easy to fix your golf game, but
it is easy to find the fixed for your check
engine light at Auto Zone. The free Auto Zone Fixed
Fighter tool will find the likely issue, saving you money
down the road. Get in the zone autos Zone. By
the way, it is official from Shams sh Uh. How
(01:35:00):
do I say his last name? Shan's Sharania from Yahoo Sports.
Karl Anthony has verbally agreed with the Houston Rockets. So
that is worst kept secret in the history of sports. Um,
here's a really well kept secret in sports because of
uh schedule and ynouns. The Atlanta Braves, who are very
(01:35:23):
much in the playoff chase will play twenty two games
over the next twenty days. Let me repeat that for
a second. The Atlanta Braves will play that they lost
today in the first of a doubleheader to the Washington
Nationals eight to three. The Braves will The Braves will
play twenty two games in twenty days. No one I
(01:35:48):
know who in broadcasting as as much energy is Nick Swisher.
He joins us in the Doug Gotlip Show here on
Fox Sports Trade of course, the Fox MLB analyst Swish
twenty two and twenty days. I know it's baseball, but
that's hardcore. Oh bro, I just I just threw up
a little bit right there. I mean, you don't want
to wish that on anybody, man, not only physical grind
(01:36:10):
that that takes on your body, but also the mental grind.
You gotta remember, this team is in the playoff hunt
right now. This team hasn't been to the playoff for
a minute, and they're fighting for that and this is
a make or break time in the season for them.
There's no doubt about it. What's what's fascinating is they
lost the first of a double dip here with the Nationals.
The Nats have won three in a row. They've won
(01:36:31):
six of their last seven games. Heck, if you go
back to actually won nine to the last twelve. Are
they looking smart for not trading Bryce Harper? Yeah? I
feel like with a guy like that, I mean, what
does that say for Mike Rizzo? If he gets rid
of his best player, then there's absolutely no chances of
you signing him back. So I think for what's going
(01:36:52):
on with them, I I think that by the way, man,
to give up a guy like Bryce Harper, you have
to give a lot, and maybe the price was too high. Um.
You know, I've always heard of Brian Cashman talking about
trades are like dances, and you have to find somebody
to dance with. And and maybe they just couldn't find
the right suitor. Maybe nobody was jazzing up to the
right music. The Yankees got spanked by the Red Sox
(01:37:16):
uh in that three game series, essentially ending any any
thoughts they'll be a race in the Al East. But
what's really important to the Yankees is what are they
gonna do in the playoffs? How do they how do
they fix their pitching swish? Yeah? Right, Uh, you're talking
about the Yankees. I lost it there for a hot second.
(01:37:36):
Yeah it was it was. Yeah, it was a tough series.
There's no doubt about it. Um. I think that, you know,
I think it might be a little early to close
the book on the Division. I understand the Red Sox
are the best team at baseball, there's no doubt about it.
But you gotta remember, man, you know you're you're you're
one injury away from something you know from from a
teammaking a streak. The Yankees potentially have that chance to
(01:37:59):
rattle off twenty out of um so, I don't know.
I feel like Swish Swish their nine games out a right, right,
Like I'm a I'm an optimistic guy man, and and
to help you are and to help your argument out, like, look,
they don't play. Uh, they got two they got two
(01:38:19):
more with the White Sox that they beat last night.
Then they got the Rangers, then they got the Mets,
then they got the Raised. Like this is a really
really soft part of their schedule. They don't see the
Red Sox again until mid September. So and they don't
have the Astros on this They do have the A's,
but they have the astros. They've got Orioles. Marlin's like,
this is a really really soft schedule, very favoring right
(01:38:43):
now for the Yankees, no doubt about that. But I
think just in general, man, the one thing that that
that we've got to look at here is it started
pitching for the Yankees that has has been a trouble spot.
I think they've thrown the second fewest innings out of
any team in baseball, rather than the Tampa Bay Race.
So I think if if if you want to talk
about the Yankees in the playoffs, then Brian Cashman has
(01:39:06):
done his best job to try and almost in a sense,
kind of piece mail a rotation together. Obviously you can
count on Severino, but from there you've got Tanaka, You've
got C. C. Sabathia. He's done a great job bringing
over guys like Jay hab lance Land, who pitched tremendously
last night. But hey, man, it all depends on on
(01:39:27):
how it breaks down the rest of the season, because
it doesn't seem like the rent Socks are slowing down
at all. And the last thing you want to do
is if you're the Yankees, you're gonna win a hundred
games and you're gonna have to play in a one
game playoffs against maybe the Oakland A's or maybe the
Seattle Mariners. And the last thing you want to do
is face a guy like James Paxton up there in
Seattle throwing a hundred miles an hour from the left
(01:39:48):
side in a winner, go home playoff game. Doesn't sound
like fun to me. I mean, the A's thing is
is crazy. I mean it really is crazy. Now they won?
Uh is it six more in a row? Uh? They
had that, They had that disastrous series in Colorado against
the Rockies, but outside of that, they've been amazing. Um,
(01:40:10):
how do you how do you? How do you explain
what's happened with the A's. I thought, well, Billy Bean, Hey,
by this, this man has been doing it for a minute.
You've got to give him the credit he deserves. Man,
he's had a low he's had a low pay roll
for I don't know how many years I got to
see it happen in person, up close and personal, back
when I was with the A's from you know, two
(01:40:31):
thousand and two to two thousand and seven. But Billy
just knows the buttons to push, man. And I think,
on top of that, I even said it last night
in our show, I think we're realizing the Oakland A's
have some ballers. I'm telling you they got chat minute
third base. They got Chris Davis, who's absolutely crushing. They
have one of the best kept secrets in baseball and
trying in at the end of their bullpen closing out days.
(01:40:54):
I'm telling you, man, Oakland's got a little swag going on.
It's the fiftieth anniversary of their organization, and I'm telling you, man,
Billy has made the right move. Brings over fires from um,
where did he? Where'd he come over from Houston? Just
came over the other day? Yep, And so I feel
like Billy knows what he's doing, he knows the team
he has and and anything can happen because if this
(01:41:16):
team keeps rattling off with the swag that they have
and the and the confidence that they have. I mean,
Bob Melvin is an amazing manager. I think it's about
time we give him a little credit to Roberto Sooner
comes in pitches a perfect eighth inning. Obviously, the off
the field stuff leaves everybody queasy, like, dude, do we
cheer for this guy to be clapped for? This guy?
But the Astros back into their bullpen. Right. That's there.
(01:41:39):
That's the only question you have with this team, isn't
it heading into the postseason? Oh? Yeah, absolutely, man, I
mean there's they can do everything you need for them
to do. He fair starting pitching, also with the Cleveland
Indians starting pitching, and with a healthy healthy Boston Red
Sox starting pitching. Best in baseball, man, no doubt. So
Uh does does he have assumed the role of closer?
(01:42:02):
You know what, man? I feel like Ron Done has
done a great job over there. You know what's crazy, man,
is that you know when all of that Osuna stuff
went down. Uh, there were some tweets that came out
from some players on the Houston Astros. So I'm interested
to see kind of how that locker room kind of
meshes because I mean, obviously when something like that goes down,
(01:42:24):
you know, people like to express their opinions. Um, I
don't know. I'm not in that locker room. I think
Ron Done has done a great job over there, and
a j hitch man, he knows his guys. That's the thing. Man.
I got a chance to interview him a couple of
saturdays ago, and I was asking him, how do you
get guys to believe in your system, and he said, Switch, Hey, man,
you have to believe in what you're doing before you
(01:42:45):
have success. You gotta believe in each other before you
can have success as a team. And so I feel
like when you're bringing over a piece like that, who,
regardless of what he's done off the field, is is
a tremendous picture. Uh, It's it's gonna be interesting, in
my opinion, to see how kind of at all shakes
down in that locker room moving forward, because when you
when when you when you address a problem like the
(01:43:05):
bullpen issues that the that the Houston Astros have, and
you bring over somebody like that, obviously you're gonna have
to answer questions. But I think the Houston Astros want
to win and regardless of what's going on, man, I
mean that piece, uh, regardless of whatever is happening in
his personal life, can help you on the field. Switch Switch.
Does it doesn't matter like in the real in the
real world of Major League Baseball, if you don't like
(01:43:28):
a guy, or even if you you don't respect a
guy because of something like domestic violence, obviously, but does
it actually does it actually matter in baseball? You know
what man, I had a I had a teammate of
mine and and I'm not gonna give you his name,
but he told me that when he was playing for
a certain organization, they had a great player on their team,
and he used to tell me all the time. He
(01:43:49):
would say, Hey, it's a good thing you're a great player,
because if you weren't, no one in here would like you.
So it just depends. I think if you go out
and do what when you go out and do what
you're supposed to do, then I think everybody loves you.
But I obviously you've got a lot of things you know,
in your closet, and you know you're you're not getting
the job done on the field, then I think it matters.
(01:44:10):
But I don't know, man, to be brutally honest, I mean,
I've had a few guys along the years that maybe
we haven't gotten along as well as I would have liked.
But if he was helping our team win on the field,
you're right, man. I guess at the end of the day,
it it really matters what you're doing on the field.
Nick Swisher Fox on MLB on Fox analysts swish great stuff,
(01:44:31):
love your energy, which means you can you can do
twenty two interviews the next twenty minutes. Thanks for joining us.
You've got a brother. I'm gonna do a show tonight,
bro trying to bring some fire tonight too, lit whip
around tonight on on Fox. That's Fox Sports One. That's
the great Nick Swisher. Let's get you to Dan Buyer,
then I'll make my comp and everybody's fired up about
(01:44:51):
Go ahead, Dan, all right, let's start with some baseball.
As you were just talking with Nick Swisher. The Giants
are up on the Astros right now, one nothing playing
in the sixth thinging in San Francisco. Madison Bumgarner struck
out six so far for the Giants. Earlier today, the
Nationals best of the Braves eight to three. Bryce Harper
knocked in two, including a solo home run. Is twenty
seven of the season. It's game one of a double
(01:45:12):
header for the Braves and Nats. Doug mentioned it earlier,
but the Vertical reporting that Carmelo Anthony has verbally agreed
to join the Houston Rockets. While NBA Christmas Day schedule,
MLK schedule, and opening week schedules expected released to be
released tomorrow, some news from college football the lawyer for
the ex wife of former Ohio state coach Zack Smith,
(01:45:32):
so sir client was never contacted by the school to
investigate claims that the coach abused her. Courtney Smith's attorney,
Julia LeVert, says her client never heard from the school
and ads her client would cooperate with the school's current
investigation into the matter. Colts and Seahawks will play preseason
football on Thursday. You're gonna see a lot of Andrew
luck Is. The Colts QB could play the entire first
quarter of that game against Seattle. You won't see Doug Baldwin.
(01:45:56):
He's likely to be held out the entire preseason. But
then coach Pete Carroll says the receiver he expects to
be playing in Week one despite a sword need. Finally,
Dug Chargers defensiveman Joey Bosa stuffered the left foot injury
in practice during eleven on elevens, didn't return, going to
be reevaluated, but was able to walk off on his own.
Power was somebody else's power, Doug gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio.
(01:46:19):
All right, here, here's look, um, I'm I understand that
sometimes you hear you think you hear politics on sports video,
and you immediately want to go like, I'm not talking politics, right,
but I'll use a political reference to make a ton
of sense here. Look, I don't care who you voted
(01:46:42):
for or or what your political affiliation, but if you
were if you had any brains at all, and I
do think that a lot of people in power have brains,
or at least people around the people in power have brains.
If I was telling the president, all you should do,
if even if you tweet, is just tweet every day,
(01:47:04):
every morning, the economy. Now. Look, the people don't like
Trump can say, look, the tax cuts will ultimately hurt us.
They can say Obama left him the economy in great
shape and rescued it from you know, the greatest collapse
since the Depression, etcetera, etcetera. But if if if I
(01:47:26):
was advising the president, that's a winning topic. There's no fight,
there's there's nothing. Unemployment is like three point nine. This
should be he should be taking victory lapse high fiving people.
Get up and give a speech and just say the
economy and sit back down. Nothing else, nothing else. You're like,
(01:47:52):
no one could ever I know, just stand up and
go The President's here, he's everybody's wedding the economy. That's
it and then walk out. That was the whole idea
of the guy, right was he's a businessman and he
can fix the business. And it's pretty hard to argue
there are there are there factors that have helped it. Sure,
(01:48:15):
are there things that he's doing that might well actually
hurt um, his his core flaw, his some of his success. Sure,
but if you simply if for the next two and
a half years he just said that, he just said
the economy and nothing else, dude would win by a landslide.
(01:48:38):
Matter of fact, um polling last week showed that the
president had made substantial gains in the African American community.
That was before he called out Lebron James and Don Lemon,
called Don Lemon the dumbest guy on TV and said
that he made Lebron James look smart, which is hard
to do. Um. You know, like I'm a Mike guy, right,
(01:49:03):
Donald Trump should be should be congratulated right now. For one,
I've all this is the it's the greatest upset in
the history of political science. Took down fifteen or establishment
Republicans and the Clintons to win the highest office public service. Right,
(01:49:25):
But instead the Republicans, many of them, are fighting for
their lives in midterm elections. Why is that because of
social media? Because of Twitter? Because he can't help himself.
He can't help him. He wants to fight every battle.
He watches TV, see somebody say something negative about him,
and he's got to come back at them. He's got it.
(01:49:45):
What do they call it, He's got a clap back? Correct?
Is that? Is this an accurate assessment? Right? So many
of the things that he does, it's about the tweets
that he sends out. If he simply somebody simply took
away his Twitter, or he only tweeted out the economy
every day, there's really no competition out there for you
(01:50:07):
know who that is. In sports, it's Kevin Durant, Kevin Rant.
Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant has one two straight finals MVP.
He has two NBA championships. He also he also has
a previous league MVP. He's in a He's in one
(01:50:31):
of the top ten cities in the entire world, in
San Francisco. He is revered for his talent. Matter of fact,
his pull up jump shot as a seven footer is
widely regarded as an unstoppable, unblockable shot, the likes of
which we have not seen since you go Jordan Kobe's
fade away, but maybe even Kareem abdul Jabar skyhook. Like
(01:50:56):
I believe that Kevin Durant is the best player in
the NBA. Why isn't he viewed as such? Is it
because he left the Thunder and went to the Warriors
who had won seventy three games and had beaten the
Thunder a little bit? But the truth is that trying
to fight every fight on social media, trying to tell
(01:51:18):
people this is who I really am and clap back
at people, and first he had the Burner accounts and
then it was his own account. There's no difference between
the two. Both should be revered. Both should be celebrated
because if you if you question Kevin Durant and you say, hey,
can you left the Thunder? You did this? All you
(01:51:38):
have to do is go that one but to championship rings,
not one, but two finals. MVP, by the way, who
was guarding him when he hit the game the game
the series clinching shot in both of the past two
NBA finals. That would be Lebron James. So he beat
Lebron in the last two finals. Whether that was a
(01:51:59):
fair fight or not doesn't even matter that it matters.
He won two finals, MVPs, two championships, has an m
v P, and they're likely going to win a third.
But instead of tweeting out rings or finals, MVPs or
all he has to do is a a A. It's
called a gift, a gift of his game winning jump
(01:52:22):
shot in game three of either the past two series.
If he just did that, there's no arguing with it. Well,
I got not I got nothing I can do. You
can throw out me Lebron stats. You're gonna throw out me,
Kobe's rings, you can do this, you can do that.
But as of right now, he is king of the
Hill and there's nobody taking the Warriors down next year? Correct?
(01:52:44):
And any different than Trump. Think about the power of
social media and how it allows so many successful people
to simply self destruct, and I like, look, I've been
just as guilty of it in my lifetime as anybody,
but I haven't seen the success that those guys have,
(01:53:05):
so I haven't had the layup of just actually that's
not true, not true. When I was when I was
at CBS, one of my bosses. He didn't like that
I would I clap back at a couple of people.
I never cursed ever, uh, but that I would engage
in in conversation some to which they just weren't comfortable
(01:53:26):
with because they're super They will even tell you like
we're we're very conservative. We don't even know really what
we're afraid of. We just don't know how something will
spiral out of control. So he said, please don't. We
don't want you to respond to people on Twitter. And
he said people on Twitter. So I would only respond
(01:53:47):
and I would quote tweet for just people in media
on Twitter. Because I didn't think he said people. I
think he meant like civilians. Calls my agent. This is
months later. Months later, it was more on lines of
he didn't didn't bother him, but clearly at a burner
account and something bothered him and he got really mad.
(01:54:12):
And I think that his point should have been, hey, look, dude,
if you just don't tweet, you can do CBS games forever. Now.
My point was like, I think it's really hard to
do sports radio and to do sports television on a
daily basis if you're not engaging with people on social media.
(01:54:33):
I think it's almost impossible, but that's the way you
wanted it done, and I probably couldn't help myself, So
I do understand it. But I also didn't have the
power that either of those two have. I mean, well,
what did I see this? This podas have like forty
(01:54:53):
one million followers something crazy with a million followers, and
and Durant has seventeen point three million million and all
they gotta do is tweet out the economy or the
rings and that's it. Can't help themselves. Who had who
back their head? Durant intern, Chris intern, Chris congratulations into
(01:55:18):
Chris Ramos. Who do you think I was talking about?
I said, Tom Brady? Tom Brady, why because they're both
white guys? Well, um, all right, can I get a
breaking news center? Can I get breaking new center? Is
it breaking news? Yeah? We don't like to do it officially.
(01:55:41):
We don't want to confuse the audience. Doug. It's it's
usually been memos. There's been memos, but I actually have
breaking news. How about this, John, play it and throw
it to me. Okay, okay, please do this. We'll get
a dog. I'll throw it to the course on breaking
(01:56:03):
news from Fox Sports. I'm Dan Buyerd our Los Angeles
studios over the Doug Gottlieb, who's got breaking news. I'm
in Chopper nine here high above Chargers camp. I appreciate it. Uh.
Source close to the situation says that Joey Bosa has
a minor foot injury. He will be okay. It's a
minor foot injury. So anyone who's holding their breath that
(01:56:26):
it was something major because Joey Bosa is a Charger,
stand down, He'll be fine. Minor foot injury. Was that
where they're breaking? Is? It's okay? Right? It was a
story of the day. Schefter at it like five minutes ago.
He did not serious. It was gonna be in the press.
But we'll cross that one off. We won't do that
(01:56:47):
in the press. I'm I'm texting back my boy never
headed five minutes ago. I'm doing this great rand oh Man.
Schefter beat me to it. Damn it, Adam Scheffer. That's
all you do, all right? Coming up back, Carson Wentz
isn't expected to play at all this preseason. Is it
(01:57:08):
caused for concern for Eagles fans? Tell you next be

we're gonna connect us a good price when you're looking

don't know if you heard this Doug Joey Bosa is
gonna be okay the Chargers defensive and heard his left
foot of practice today in training camp. Not expected to
(01:58:34):
be serious. We'll be reevaluated. Oh joke, you know, not
funny here. I thought I had a breaking story in
your defense. You're also doing it live radio show, so
there was there was that. Um, since you already broke
the Bosa news, how about this news on Andrew Luck
(01:58:54):
could play an entire quarter Thursday of their preseason opener
against the Seahawks. This was law at training camps the
time or two where I where I thought I would
not play football again and I didn't think it was
worth worth playing again. Uh. And I'm so glad to
have worked worked through that. Like I said, I've got
I've received a lot of help, you know, teammates, friends, family, uh,
(01:59:17):
fresh helping and also talking to something like contemporaries and
about things that they've gone through and them sharing and
opening up about themselves as it was also very helpful. Yeah. Look,
it's awesome to see that he's back. I hope he's
back to where he was and then he allowed to
grow as a quarterback. I'm who's not an Andrew Luck
fan part of how much guys play is based upon
(01:59:38):
the spacing of the preseason games. Okay, so stick with me.
The they play the Seahawks in two days, so that's
on Friday night, right, and then they don't play again
until the following week, felt following Sunday on the whereas
many of these other teams play either Thursday or Friday
of next week. So it's all about spacing it out.
(02:00:00):
So if you don't see a guy play the first week,
it's because he's gonna play a bunch of the second week.
They just don't want God, they just don't want guys playing,
you know, five five days in between games. Yeah. I
think Seahawks and Colts play Thursday, so even more more. Yeah,
And that was with ESPN, by the way, Andrew Luck
speaking with them NBC Sports Philadelphia reports that don't want
(02:00:22):
to expects quarterback Carson Wentz to play at all this
preseason for the Philadelphia Eagles doesn't surprise me. Why why
would you you have Nick Foles play Nick Foles? And uh?
And then of course you have developed even more depth
in case you want to trade Nick Foles after Carson
Wentz returns. I don't think he'll be back till the
fourth or fifth game of the season if that. How
(02:00:44):
about this or the NFL Bronze water Receiver Antonio o'callaway
started for marijuana possession and driving on a suspended license
early Sunday, fell to the fourth round for a whole
bunch of issues at Florida and even afterwards when he
tested positive from marijuana at the NFL combine. My man
likes weed more than he likes football. It's true. I'm like, look,
all you have to do. I've tell you all you
(02:01:05):
have to do is not smoke weed. You can play
in the NFL. That's all I gotta do, simple as that.
Speaking of the Browns, tonight, the first episode of HBOS
Hard Knocks with the Cleveland Browns premieres. But this is
great for I'm still listening to Dan Patrick show. What's
the likelihood that we'll see a sprinkler scene in the
first sixty seconds? That's very good. What is with them in?
(02:01:26):
There's sprinklers scenes? Getting the grass ready for that turf
gotta water at a piece recently on golf channel dot
com revealed that Tiger would swing speed is slowed down
an average of five miles per hour over the summer. Now,
on the eve of the PGA Championship this week, some
may be concerned Tiger, Well, not really one of them.
(02:01:46):
I know how to play the game of golf. It's
just one of them. My limitation is going to be
and as a year has progressed, I've I've learned some
of those things. I certainly can't do what I used
to do ten fifteen years ago, but you know, I'm
still able to hit much already in my shots, and
I've had to learn a golf swing that is restricted. Yeah,
so look, uh, some of it is club head speed
(02:02:08):
is it can be a little bit overrated, it can, right,
I mean, any of us who've ever swung a golf
club knows that sometimes the harder you just swing, the
worst it actually gets. The problem with Tiger is he's
lost speed and he's also lost accuracy on his driver.
He was hitting the driver great earthen year. We'll see.
It does feel weird. This is PGA Championship week. Doesn't
feel like there's the hype, maybe because he finished so
(02:02:30):
poorly on Sunday. Also, we made Tiger sound even more
like a robot. We took a lot of breaths out
of that cut. Tiger already sounds blind as it is.
That was pretty impressive. By the way. The last PGA
championship to be played in August, it moves to May
next season. Uh Finally, Doug Michigan's men's Michigan men's basketball
coach John Beeline underwent double bypass surgery yesterday. Expects to
(02:02:51):
be ready for the upcoming season. Yes, teams going on
an overseas trip. That stinks, but hopefully he returns to
full health. What a great mentor leader. Just basketball coach
Michigan has it out there that the press Doug gotlib
show here on Fox Sports Radio. All right, so we
have what two days and then there's a whole bunch
of preseason games. Whole bunch And as a couple of
(02:03:14):
you pointed out on Twitter, Hey, Indians played twenty six
games in twenty three days last year, doesn't yees, So
it doesn't mean can mean success can And I pointed
out the whole Yankee thing, like, look, Yankees played the
softest scheduled possibly imagine over the next month. I mean,
they play all the worst teams in the American League.
(02:03:34):
So they got they got a chance, but a nine
game lead at this point, it's not insurmountable. It's surmountable,
but it is hard to surmount them a bullet. Oh,
no one knows, has any idea. Who are having on tomorrow? Right?
All right, we'll figure it out. We'll figure it out.
(02:03:55):
Down to the podcast, The Doug Gotlap Show. Did I
report Joey Boses? Okay, this is Foxford Radio
