(00:29):
Ramos is here as well as we are in for today.
I only thought five nothing games happened in soccer matches
coached by John Ramos, but no, apparently they happened in
the NFL, and usually John is on one side of
the scoreboard with that. However, that's what we had last
night in the NFL preseason kicking off Eagles and Browns.
(00:53):
What a dandy it was five nothing, the Browns walk
away with the the You know, sometimes you walk around
and you just start to get this feeling some people
will talk about they just get a bad feeling when
something's about to happen, or just like at certain points
you'll smell something, it will take you back to that
time in your childhood where you smelled it again and
you go God, that brings back such memories like when
(01:15):
you go back home to Wisconsin, you probably smell like
a drive through or a golf course and you just
remember where you were when that happened. I'll be headed
there tonight, by the way, so I can't wait till tomorrow. Yes,
at least you not headed to Waii. Good luck getting there. Um.
I was watching that game last night and I smelled something, damn,
(01:36):
and it brought up these romas. Yeah, I'm smelling it,
and I'm like, gosh, five nothing. You know that smells
like Dan, smells like Thursday night football every other year.
That's what that smells like. Dan. It's bad. Yeah, I
got a taste of it last night. That's what's your appetite.
That's what it did. Oh man, let's be honest. Here
(01:59):
new network here, no new network. And great job by
Joe Buck and Troy Ankman for calling that vombit bomb
that they got last night. But good christ, was that
a bad football game. It's still amazing though, Jonas for
how awful that the game ended up being that, I
found myself late in the third quarter saying I'm still
watching a five nothing preseason NFL game, even with Jersey
(02:21):
shore back. Yeah, it's d v RD. We we got
twenty minutes in. It doesn't I don't know. Ronnie right
now seems like a good dad's getting really good juicy,
but he's only twenty minutes into me seeing him be
a father. Then we had to move on to other things.
But yeah, five nothing at the end of the third quarter,
and I'm sitting there watching it, and it's because of
(02:42):
Baker Mayfield. It's because of probably a little bit of
Hard Knocks. You're seeing guys that you're familiar in seeing
on the TV show, and the Browns have been the
story this preseason. But in the last night's game, the
biggest story wasn't Baker Mayfield or could you bost or
Hugh Jackson. It was actually Tyrod Taylor. This did not
(03:04):
look good for Tyrod Taylor. Keep an eye on his
left wrist when he goes down, meaning right away that
then he was in pain and somehow able to just
get up and get over the sideline. I don't know
how you can watch Hard Knocks and not love this guy. Yeah,
you knew something was wrong when his wrist was backwards
for a second, because that was an ankle sprain twist
(03:27):
on his wrist last night and of course Jonas. When
you see Tyrod Taylor by the way, Fox and Joe
Buck with that call there, when you see Tyrod Taylor
walking off with the trainers, I thought to myself, a,
this could be the start of the Baker Mayfield era
and be what are these next two weeks gonna be
like for the Cleveland Browns to try to get Tyrod
(03:48):
Taylor ready for Week one? Little did I know that
ten minutes later, Tyrod Taylor would be back on the
field playing for the Cleveland Browns after his wrist was
backwards for about a second last night. Yeah, there, for
a moment there, I thought he turned into Jamie Lanister
off Game of Thrones and lost his arms, you know
what I mean, Like, what's happening here? Yeah, it's oh yeah,
sorry about that for those Game of Thrones. Um, he
(04:11):
can't give you a double high five anymore. I'll just
go ahead and put it that way. Um it would
it looked bad. But I get the idea of why
he wanted to come back in. But the other part
of that, because it's a two man thing, all right,
So Tyrod Taylor wants to come back in, and then
his coach has got to want him to come back in.
I understand why Tyrod Taylor wanted back in. I get it.
(04:32):
This is his shot. He doesn't want to give up
any playing time. He wants to be at there out
on the field. The Hugh Jackson conversation is a more
interesting one because there's other things that play when it
comes to Hugh Jackson. Tyrod Taylor is in Cleveland as
their veteran starter. But in in my mind and and
I think in in yours as well as that, Tyrod
Taylor is there to help Hugh Jackson save his job.
(04:55):
And the only way that Hugh Jackson saves his job
this year is to not just win a couple of games.
It's win a bunch of games and have a successful season.
And that may Jonas, that may mean that Baker Mayfield
doesn't play this season. If Tyrod Taylor continues to win
and the Browns are a winning team or a team
that is hovering around five hundred, you can you can
(05:16):
really show progress. But Hugh Jackson doesn't save his job
if an under prepared and not saying not prepared, but
an underprepared or not ready Baker Mayfield takes over and
they only win five games, this year. That is that
is not going to save Hugh Jackson his job. Tyrod
Taylor is there to be the security blanket for Hugh Jackson,
(05:38):
and I think that's why he was in the game
last night, because Hugh Jackson wasn't ready to risk his
job on the first overall pick being a rookie and
starting in week one for the Cleveland Browns. It was
all about optics. It was all about getting him back
in there. And if Baker Mayfield has tons of success
last night in place of the injured quarterback, guess what
you gotta go with Baker Mayfield week one. This was
(05:58):
a job saving move by Hugh Jackson to put Tyrod
Taylor back in a meaningless preseason game where now we
find out he's got a dislocated pinky. Yeah. Um, Hugh
Jackson's got his own interests um in at play here,
and I understand it because if Hugh Jackson flames out
here in Cleveland, and I'd be willing to bet that
he does, He's never going to get another head coaching job.
(06:19):
It's just the reality of the way the business is.
Um Rex Ryan had a lot of success in New
York early on, but he flamed out there and then
he went to Buffalo and that was a disaster. Rex
Ryan will never be a head coach in the NFL again.
You get two opportunities, and if you get those two
opportunities and you don't fail, it's over for you. That's it.
So Hugh Jackson wants to hold onto this for as
(06:39):
long as possible, but it just goes back to look
at the totality of what it is here all right now.
Unless there's been one organization that has stood by a
head coach who's been a bad head coach and had
a bad record, and that organization with Jacksonville because they
stuck by Gus Bradley over and over and over again,
and he continued to cheer and out awful seasons, but
(07:01):
they still stuck by him until finally they said, listen,
we have developed these guys as long as we can.
We need to move in a different direction. I don't
get the feeling that Cleveland is that same organization, all right,
And I don't know if it's because of all the
other head coaches and quarterbacks that they've had over the
past decade that they've burned or or you know, and
just gotten rid of because they felt like they had underperformed.
(07:23):
So I feel like Hugh Jackson is sort of swimming
upstream against the future of the organization. The future of
the organization is John Dorsey and Baker Mayfield, well, Hugh
Jackson and Tyrod Taylor the ones going upstream. They're trying
to fight back against their success so that they can
keep their jobs, and I just think it's an awkward
(07:44):
situation to be in. This was Hugh Jackson last night
after that five nothing victory against the Eagles, not talking
about the win, but talking about why Tyrod Taylor was
put back in the game. I wasn't sure. Anytime you
have starting quarterback goes into locker room, you're not sure.
But he came back, obviously went back in the game.
So we'll continue to to look at it and see
where we are as we head in the next week.
(08:06):
I was aware of it, but I mean, obviously the
our medical people said he was fine and he could
be out there, and we wouldn't have put him back
out there if he wasn't. So again, we'll check everything
uh tonight and see where he is. But I think
hopefully everything will be okay. Jared Goff is fine, for
the Los Angeles Rams. He's not gonna play a snap
in the preseason. There are quarterbacks who are fine. We
(08:26):
we don't know how much Aaron Rodgers is going to
even play the rest of the season for the preseason
for the Green Bay Packers. He's coming back off of
of an injury that cost him a good part of
last season. Those quarterbacks are fine. Tom Brady's fine. Tyrod
Taylor was fine. There was no reason to put him
back in the game last night. The the the play
that he got injured on. Jonas I understand. I almost
(08:48):
think every fourth down, just go for it if you
want another snap that you want. There's no point in
kicking a field goal fourth down at the one yard line.
I totally get going for it, But you have to
tell your quarterback as well, like, this is the route
we're looking at, and this is the read we're looking at,
and there's no reason to extend a play like he
did on the play that he got injured on. In fact,
(09:11):
once he rolled out of the pocket, there it was.
It was. It was a free for all. So there's
nothing that you can learn from it. So then to
say Tyrod Taylor is okay and we're gonna put him
back in the game, where Tyrod Taylor could do the
same exact thing. It makes zero sense whatsoever. I don't
care if he was okay. Quarterbacks are okay right now
and they're not playing. I just I didn't get it. Yeah,
(09:32):
it's it was a little bit curious unless maybe they
didn't feel like unless they didn't I did. I feel
like huge Hugh Jackson and Tyrod Taylor are kind of
in the same spot because both these guys want to
play because they're looking at their futures, and and I
think Tyrod Taylor knows my future isn't here in Cleveland.
(09:53):
One thing Cleveland's not gonna do is what they did
about ten years ago where they drafted a rookie quarterback
in Brady Quinn. But Derrick Anderson had this anomaly season,
and so Cleveland just overthought the whole situation and said, hey,
you know what, here's three years, twenty seven million. We'll
keep Derek Anderson. And I've talked to Brady about this,
and Brady is looking around, going, why am I here?
(10:14):
You know what I mean, Like, I don't think Cleveland's
gonna go down that road again, because so this is
Tyrod Taylor's only shot in Cleveland, which goes back to
something that we've talked about. If if he's not so
much significantly better than Baker Mayfield, what are you waiting for?
Like if there was an opportunity to deal Tyrod Taylor
(10:35):
for a second or a third round pick to a
Miami or somebody like that who doesn't think they can
get Teddy Bridgewater out of New York. If you're Cleveland,
what are you waiting for? Because the only the only
reason you're playing Tyrod Taylor. There's two reasons. Either Tyrod
Taylor demanded to go back in because he wanted to
show leadership in that situation and show his team that
(10:55):
he would fight through the injuries. Or you want to
get more Tyrod Taylor film on tape because you want
him to look good so that if you deal him,
you can get more form. Other than that, I don't
get and and and even that doesn't make sense for
the simple fact of now he's got a dislocated, pinky,
bruised hand, and why you want to put him out
there somewhat limited, None of it makes sense. It's your
(11:16):
point of of Tyrod having to be significantly better than
Baker Mayfield. I think he is right now heading into
the regular season. Whether he's going to be that in
Week eight or week fifteen as Baker Mayfield gets more involved,
I don't know. I'm not sure what the case is,
but I just know that Cleveland wasn't ready to start
the Baker Mayfield era last night, and it's showed by
(11:39):
putting Tyrod Taylor at risk again after leaving the game.
You if you're the Cleveland Browns, you escaped, You got
lucky because he wasn't seriously injured, and now you end
up saying, hey, watch these die, and then you rolled
them to see if he would stay. Hell, it's just
there isn't a good explanation. Even as I said, Jared
(12:01):
Goff is perfectly healthy and he's not gonna play a
snap in the NFL preseason. He's fine. That's what they
should have done with Tyrod Taylor, who, in my mind,
is there to save you Jackson's you know, Dan, maybe
we should have done a lazy segment or a lazy
take on Twitter last night and go Brown's being Browns Man,
same old groans, same old things, same old story. Miles Garrett, Wow,
(12:23):
that guy's a Monster. Yeah, he's good. Dan Buyer, Jonas

the NFL that's next year on Fox Sports Radio. He's
Jonas Knox, that's Gen Ramos. I'm Dan Buyer. We are

One football game last night, a bunch more coming this
(13:09):
weekend in the NFL, probably the last time we'll see
the stars of the National Football A good handful of
games this evening. Joining us now to talk about what's
ahead in the NFL and really look back at what
happened last night. Good buddy, Jeff Schwartz form more NFL
player NFL analysts, and you can hear him from time
to time to time on Outkicked the Coverage with Clay
Travis mornings here on Fox Sports Radio. Hey Jeff, how
(13:31):
you doing? Oh glad to be in You're right, man,
we got we got six games tonight, a couple more
tomorrow and maybe one Sunday, and then, uh, the season
will be here before we know it. What were your
impressions when Tyrod Taylor went back into the game last
night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Uh, just more in confidence
by the Browns. I mean there's no other way to
stay what they're doing. I mean hard knocks typically shows
(13:56):
your franchise, your program in a good way. I don't
think it's been very helpful for Huge Action. Um, he
looked completely lost last night. You know, they've done out
of their way to tell us as much as they
can that Tyrod Taylor is going to be their starter.
He's their guy. Right. They've gone out of their way
to make sure banks To Mayfield takes up with the ones,
which is absolutely ridiculous. Every other rookie quarterback was in
(14:18):
the first round, comes down some reps with the ones, Um,
and then done have their way to prove to everyone
that tyl rodders their guy, and then their guy gets
hurt in the preseason, and um, it looked bad and
obviously is not. And I said, just letting him sit out,
and given you know, Mayfield some reps and getting Mayfield
some extra work, they put him back in to risk
(14:40):
further injury and many further damage to his hand in
his risk. So, uh, it just it makes no sense
to me. Um they seem to never have a plan
with with with what they're doing last season. Go back
the last season. I know that was sixteen, and a
lot of reason for that was Hugh Jackie had no
planet quarterback. He started kaiser. I think the fifteen game,
I'd be hard pressed to find maybe seven or eight
(15:03):
of those when where he actually finished the game he
put you put Hogan in in rotate, he didn't know
what he was doing. And it's back to this again already,
and so I just think it's incompetence and um, I
it made no sense to me if you just if
he's just starting quarter to put him back in that game.
Jeff Schwartz, former NFL offensive lineman NFL analysts with us
Year on Fox Sports Radio. Dan Buyer Jonas knocks here
(15:25):
on fs ARE it feels like there's a divide um
the four most important people in the conversation are Dorsey,
Baker Mayfield, Hugh Jackson, and Tyrod Taylor, And it feels
like John Dorsey and Baker Mayfield are going forward while
Hugh Jackson and Tyrod Taylor kind of swimming against the
stream because they're they're trying to look out for their
(15:47):
own futures. But Dorsey and Mayfield are clearly the future
of the franchise. How do you think that plays in
the locker room. It's a great question. Um, it's a
very young locker room. There's probably they're probably not gonna
be very opinionated about who plays quarterback. I would imagine
that the younger players, um maybe style with Baker Mayfield
(16:08):
in this, but they might not know, you know, they
might not really know any better. Um, you know old
if there were older players there, like a Joe Comus
and if he was going there, I think he would
probably Um, you know, I want the best guy to
win now, which which would be TYRONN Taylor. I mean
it's clearly it's clear what's happening. Uh, Hugh Jackson's trying
to win early to avoid getting fired if he rolls
(16:30):
out with Baker Mayfield early on in Baker Struggles since
things happened one, obviously he can lead to Hugh Jackson fired.
And because once you put Baker Mayfield in there, he's
in there. You're not taking him out. I mean, the
Jets are probably gonna start. Sam Donald jests played to night.
You know, if he starts a week one, he's your quarterback.
If he plays bad for two weeks, he's still your
(16:51):
quarterback and you can't remove him. And so I think
that he feels some pressure to win early. And also
he doesn't want to have to poll Mayfield if he struggles. Look,
Tyrod is doing his you know, just doing his job.
I mean, I don't think that he Um is pushing
to start because he wants to get raps and he
(17:11):
wants to play. He's this is what he's always been.
He led a Bill's roster last year that wasn't very
good at the playoffs. You know, he can play. Um.
I don't think he's as good as people want him
to be, and he's definitely not as bad as you
want him to be. Um, So there is a little
struggle there. I think John Dorsey's just letting Hugh Jackson
figure it out, and this might be more able to
fire him. Eventually, I guess, and and and one more
(17:33):
on this, at least for me, is I guess that's
why we heard Drew Stanton being the number two quarterback,
because that, to me it seemed a way of of
Hugh Jackson trying to delay possibly the inevitable of Baker
Mayfield taking over. Was that just it of saying Drew
Stanton could be our number two. I mean, Drew takes
(17:53):
no raps this season. Um. I just can't imagine a
world where big in Mayfield, who has looked at least
confident and I think last night we saw with the
ones though that gems a little faster with the ones, um,
but that he has looked relatively competent um, that he
would be the third string quarterback and not dressed, it
(18:14):
just blows my mind. You know, there people are gonna
make parallels to what John Dorsey did when he was
with the Packers, who was not the general manager, both
Aaron Rodgers and and Brett Farvell. That's a Hall of
Fame quarterback, right, so you defer to the Hall of
Fame quarterback um. And last year with Alex Smith and
Pat Mahon was on, Dorsey didn't make it through the season. Um,
but they were going to the playoffs. The Browns are
(18:35):
doing or that they have no hall oftime quarterback on
the loss, they're not making the playoffs this year. So
you drafted the kid number one, he's looked like he
can play. Um, we'll have ups and downs. Sure, but
put him in the game. I don't I don't get this.
Uh this need to to uh you know, make sure
that he's protected and he gets the perfect opportunity to play.
Put him in the game. Jeff Schwartz, former NFL offensive
(18:58):
lineman NFL analysts with this year in Fox Sports Radio,
the preseason is most beneficial for who? Well, I think
that's a good question. I think it depends on a
position is I think it depends on what your position
is on the team. I mean, if we look the
Browns for example. You know, people last night were saying, well,
Tyrod shouldn't even playing that game. No, he's in a
(19:20):
new offense, he got a new teammates, he's gotta play
a little bit. I think there's a growing sense of people.
I think the presidents should just go away because guys
get hurt. But there there are opportunities for guys to
make rosters there are opportunities for guys that have to
use to new play colors and new systems, and you
have to get in a rhythm. We we see many
new offense corners as your many new play colors with
(19:42):
new quarterbacks and have to figure things out. And you
get that done in the preseason. You don't do it
in week one, two, three, four. I mean you have
to you, but you try to work some of those
things out in the preseason. So they're definitely the need
for the preseason. I wish there weren't so many injuries,
but Tyrod Taylor because it easily done that in practice.
He could have done it in week one. Um, you
have to play a little bit of football, you know,
(20:03):
if you are a guy you Aaron Rodgers not playing
for example tonight, Um, he didn't need to play right.
He's got to put the same offense he's been in
for eleven twelve years, however long he's been the NFL. Um,
he doesn't have to play right. He knows what he's doing.
He's a veteran. But there are some situations where guys
have to play just get comfortable with new schemes, new sits,
and new teammates. Okay, Jeff, Why then is Jared Goff
(20:25):
not playing in Is that a smart move? It's not
gonna take a snap in the preseason apparently for the Rams.
Is that smart for them? That I'm I'm fascinated by
the Rams situation. Um. You know, they're one of the
teams that I've kind of sold a little bit this year.
And I don't think they're going to be awful. But
you know, as far as win totals this year, I
have them and Jacksonville too, you know, two teams of
(20:45):
people kind of like his underwin totals. You know, the
Rams seem a little bit full themselves, a little bit
it's too good to be true, right, Yeah, Like you
have to play a little bit in the preseas third season, Um,
And I don't understand. Look, I get why they didn't
play last week. They're playing the Raiders, They're playing them
in a couple of weeks. Um. I don't know who
(21:06):
the Lambs are even playing this weekend. Um. But to
not give him any reps it seems, um like a
little a little foolish. Um. You won't even get to
feel what playing in the game or the speed of
the game is until it actually happens. But I even
part of the reason I think I saw it yesterday
is I think his left tackle is not going to
play Andrew litt Worth. And it's a pretty kind of
(21:28):
firm rule in the NFL if your left tackle is
not playing in the preseason, your starters not playing in
the cre season. Starting quarterbacks should say so that might
play a little bit too this and his left tackle
is a little beat up, then, um, you know they're
not putting your friends on this quarterback. And it was
a backup left tackle in the preseason. Uh. Quickly they
play the Texans and you can get in for two bucks,
all right, Yeah, so there you go at the police.
And I'm not surprised by that at all. So you
(21:52):
only have to pay two bucks to sitting in Andy Gumps.
That's great, But what a beautiful place that is. By
the way, Jeff, before we let you go, Hawaii plus
fourteen and a half against Colorado State. Thoughts under under
the Colorado State. I actually I covered this this morning
from my gambra should I'll take that bet it should
be out and he's spent plus in about two hours. Uh,
(22:13):
eight new starters on offense for Colorado state, new quarterback,
running back, wide receiver, three offensive linemen. UM in Hawaii
is UM. But the new offense, same same thing, a
bunch of new starters. The lines come down like three
and a half points as well. So I'm saying Under,
there's nothing he can't do. Man, he's like cold trickle.
(22:34):
Nothing he can't do in a race car. Dan, Yeah,
with other places that you work, Jeff, you could have
like a NASCAR vehicle or with all the with all
the cogos on it, on the jump suit. It's pretty much.
I know. And I live in Charlotte. I should go
down to the race track and get me one logo
sit in front of my house tonight. By the way,
I like, uh first half under Jets Giants, the first
(22:55):
half under in a preseason game. That's that is and
that's new for me. That's good. Honestly, that's all I
want to watch is the first half. We appreciate it, alright.
Former NFL line and found him on Twitter at Jeff
Schwartz and that's j G E O F F. Do
you know, do you know how many first half over
(23:16):
under beets I've placed on an NFL preseason game before?
How many a bunch. To be honest, I love gambling stories,
and my my favorite one involves a buddy of mine
who I called and he was mad because he was
watching the game cast on his phone of a college
(23:37):
basketball game between two on ranked teams because it wasn't
on TV. So he's just sitting at his phone on
his phone watching it. And then I called and I
interrupted him watching change. He's like, yeah, I gotta get
off the phone. That's like, well, that's all the fun
is watching. I don't know how people used to do
back in the day when the betting lines would come
(23:58):
out in the newspaper and you'd have to listen on
the rad you to see whether or not you want money,
like how do you? How do you? How much fun
with that? And this wasn't even watching the game. He
was watching the box score change, so all he saw
was like, you know, twenty and then to lay up
by you know John mccalist. Yeah, then you're like TV
time out and you can put the phone down for
(24:18):
four minutes and come back as it resumes. Um. Yeah,
I would never partake in never, never at all Dan
by Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks him for Doug Gottlieb here
on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, we could have
a major trade in the NFL sooner rather than later.
Find out who it involves next year on Fox Sports Radio.
But for all the latest from around the world of sports.

Pay your respects and shut up in this a to
the great Steve to Seger Good afternoon, Jed, when your
discussion reminds me of the people who are following games
(25:03):
on their phone at a wedding and it's all quiet
around them, and then they suddenly blurred out. Plus, I
hope the video was rolling. You can get the five
thousand under your TV show. By the way, also the
talk of the offensive lineman injured, you won't see the quarterback,
Jerry Jones has said in Dallas there's a good chance
we won't see quarterback Dak Prescott in any of these
(25:25):
last couple of preseason games. He currently has four starting
offensive linemen battling injury. We've missed him in regular season
games before, though the Cowboys have Yes Card's rookie quarterback
Josh Rosen with a thumb injury as a game time
decision for Sunday's exhibition, although he did throw at practice today.
The Cardinals gave injured center a Q Shipley a one
year extension for next year. He suffered a torn a
(25:46):
c l early this month. Raven's first round tight end
Hayden Hurst, with a foot injury, could miss three to
four weeks. Six NFL exhibitions tonight, including the Patriots at
Panthers game New England. Still being cautious with running back
Rex Wirkhead's knee injury, he is practicing this week. Alabama
gave its athletic director Greg Byrne a three year extension
and to pay raise. He'll make nearly one million dollars
(26:09):
in base salary this year. In golf, starting the p
g A Tours postseason this weekend in New Jersey, Phil
Mickelson has shot another sixty eight. He was three shots
back at the moment. Fact Michaelson at minus six now
five back. Because the leader is Jamie love Bark has
just gained another shot, still four holes to go in
his second round. The dreaded Jamie Lovemark is up four strokes.
(26:32):
I know Jonas knocks you are a golf expert in
the building the career of Jamie love Mark for everybody. Well,
here's and I've said this because I watched him playing
when he was young. I've always said this. If he
if he listened, and and I don't, I don't appreciate
my analysis being mocked here. But I have said this
about Jamie. I have said that if he shoots a
(26:53):
lower score than everybody else, it's gonna have success. There
we go shut that down here for a moment. Red
are up one nothing over the Cubs in the bottom
of the fifth inning. Brewers reliever Jwaukee Sorya is off
the disabled list. Yesterday they sent X closure Corey Knable
to triple A. By the way, the Brown say quarterback
to Rod Taylor should not miss any practice time. He
(27:14):
had a dislocated pinky and has a sore bruised hand
from last night. And guys, I have read with the
hurricane around Hawaii, the Big Island as of this morning
had already seen over thirty inches of rain. Good thing,
I don't have tickets to that place. Man, he does?
Is it is it one week from today that you
(27:34):
leave that one week from yesterday, one week from yesterday.
All right, so you can say Thursday you had the Hawaii.
You're not sailing over there, I hope, yeah, yeah, you
may not find land. The way things are going, I
don't really have a good track record when it comes
to vacations. I've realized, Uh, like the last significant vacations
I've taken. I was in South Carolina a few years
(27:56):
back and the South Carolina Georgia game was almost canceled
because of severe lightning. Did you have a flat tire
as well? Flat tire going to the game in a
in a rental car, stopped off at a place that
I don't know how I'm still alive to get it
fixed for twenty bucks. But I threw the guy a beer,
so he was good with it. And then Chicago was
out there for the It was the Aaron water Show
(28:19):
they do it like every year in August, and one
of the jumpers crashed into a building and died. That
was in Chicago. And now Hurricane Lane, right, so I'm
getting ready to go to Hawaii. So I should just
go ahead and not not planned vacations anymore or alert
your destination in advance. I mean, it's ridiculous. Man, you
should book two vacations and then just go oh yeah
(28:41):
it's deacon. Yeah, it's like I got options. I was
going to go to Hawaii instead. Yeah, just I'll book
one to to Mexico and they go, uh hey, let
me go where are you? Oh? I meant New Mexico. Pal.
I'm gonna fall for that one. Seeing Albuquerque. Oh, thank
you very much, if we appreciate it and keep us
(29:01):
up to date on the weather situation. It is. It
is serious. It is a serious situation. But Jonas has
got to uh yeah, what do they wait? Oh, ask
for a high floor at your hotel. That's probably best
for the Monorai said, yeah, they were doing a weather report. Um,
(29:22):
and they're like, yeah, these are the hotels were concerned about.
Yeah yeah, as a matter of fact, right there, the
Honolulu in Yeah, right, so much fun. Do they still
get free HBO at that hotel? I as long as
they get free Weather Channel? Who cares? At this point, Listen,
I just want to land, that's it. And and just
(29:44):
don't ruin the ConA Brewery. That's all I ask. I'm
not asking for a lot here, that's it's It's just
the little things. That's all I can. I am going
to the beautiful state of Wisconsin has four vacation there.
You go, maybe some thunderstorms. Ever been there before, dann As,
you know, it's a it's a nice spot. The first
(30:04):
twenty eight years of my life in about two to
three times a year. You know what they say about
Wisconsin in August, don't you, Dan? What's that they say?
You're going? Hey? Do they do Fantasy football draft tomorrow?
I go home often enough that my family doesn't care
when I go home, Like usually you're like all the
relatives in the town from Blank, nobody cares when I
go home. That's where it's gotten. Uh. Do you care
(30:25):
about the Raiders? Let me care about the Raiders? John
ros interesting? You know, I know Robert Gara our executive raiser,
but Brian Cushing at his best. The Raiders are still
waiting for Khalil Mack. Maybe they're not waiting at all,
but the Uprea linebacker has yet to report to training camp,
(30:47):
wanting a contract that would pay him on average twenty
million dollars a season. And what do you know? The
New York Jets did what every other team in the
National Football League should do. And that is reach out
to the Raiders to gauge their interest in possibly trading
the linebacker. Now, it's amazing when you look at how
(31:08):
contracts have been reached throughout different teams, the different players
in the NFL, where Khalil mac Jonas is considered one
of the best, if not the best, at the position
and they can't come to terms. To me, it seems
like it's a magic number of the twenty million dollar mark.
And it's the same thing with Aaron Donald in the Rams.
For some reason, if you're not a quarterback, NFL teams
(31:29):
don't want to pay a twenty million dollars per year. Yeah. Well,
this one is interesting because John Gruden just got there
and already one of your best players. Now, I don't
I don't buy the story that came out that John
Gruden hasn't talked to Khalil Mack at all since he
got the job. I just there's certain things that come
up and they're just not believable if you're a head
coach and you're just getting back into the league. And
(31:49):
John Gruden has been around the NFL, so he knows
what a premium pass rushers are and how important they are.
For a defense. I find it hard to believe that
he's got one of the best young past rushers in
the league and doesn't at least reach out to him
to say, hey man, what's going on? That I find
hard to believe. But it's they're they're sort of caught
in this wanting to set a precedence situation because the
(32:14):
organization wants to set a precedence that we're not going
to reward players that hold out. They said the same
thing to Donald Penn a year ago. Donald Penn wanted
a new contract. They said, we're not talking contract until
you report. So the organization wants to set a precedence
that we're not going to reward a guy who doesn't
who doesn't show up to practice or training camp. Well,
John Gruden also wants to set a precedence that he's
(32:36):
not that this is an organization and that we reward
our own and this is an organization where you want
to come play for and you want to come get paid.
So they're kind of caught between the two, and it's
it's it's McKenzie versus Gruden again. It feels like I
would if I'm the New York Jets, I offer whatever,
and it's the same the same way. I looked at
the Kawhi Leonard situation with the Spurs, and I know
he was coming off of an injury, but players like
(32:57):
this just don't become available. And if if you're the
New York Jets and there is some I don't know
that disgruntled nous. If you will, I'll make up that
word between Mac and the Raiders. Maybe if you give
them a an offer that they can't refuse, maybe they'll
take it. A couple of first round picks seems like
(33:18):
a lot. You know what, if you can bring in
Khalil Mack and for a team like the Jets that
could really use a guy on the edge to to
rush the passer, to have that, to me, is is
great value. I I think it's great that the Jets
at least reached out. I think that any other team
in the National Football League that has the ability to
pay a linebacker twenty million dollars should do so. And
(33:40):
the Jets have a lot of money, Hey give them
three first round picks. Because the likelihood of hitting and
getting an All Pro or best at your position, which
is one of the most important positions there is in football,
those opportunities just don't come along, and it's worth whatever
you end up getting giving up if you're able to
bring Khalil mackie. Yeah, there's been other teams that have
been rumored out there. The Bears are one of um
(34:00):
um obviously, the Jets, the Packers were another one. The Giants.
I saw floaded out there. He is worth a first
round pick and then some to any team in the NFL.
And you've got to look at the teams because he's
gonna want to get paid that that have the cap
space to to want to pay him. You put him
in Chicago opposite of Leonard Floyd. You filled maybe the
(34:22):
only hole they have on that defense, because that defense
was the top tier, their top half of the league
defense a year ago. With backups and a bunch of
injured players and Big Fangio coming back. You think Fangio
wouldn't want to get his hands on a guy like
Khalil mack Uh. Todd Bowles wouldn't want to get his
hands on a guy like Khalil McK in New York.
It's just the problem is if you're the Raiders and
(34:43):
you're John Gruden and you trade away and in his
prime player. Like this, you are setting a precedence that
nobody is safe, and it creates sort of a negative
vibe around the organization because no fan of the Oakland
Raiders wants to part with Khalil Macy. He's he's maybe
the best player on the team outside of Derek Carr.
(35:05):
And I would even say at this point he's better
than Derek Carr. And if you trade him right when
you get back, you're gonna look out of touch. You're
gonna look like you don't get the fan base, even
though you threw a party at some bar before training
camp in Oakland somewhere. It would be a bad look.
But the Raiders also go back to this, we're not
gonna pay you unless you show up to camp. Well,
something's got to give, and nothing's given so far. So
(35:27):
it just makes me wonder how long it's gonna happen
they would treat Kilil Mack. It even would further, uh
moved to the point of that they're gonna pay Levian
Bell whatever they want once he gets free agency next year,
because I think he will. There's no way that the
Steelers are gonna want to pay him million dollars. Whoa
hold on a second, is Dan Buyer predicting Levian Bell
to go to Oakland? Did Yeah? I did this. I
did this summer. I felt like it just when he
(35:49):
was holding out that didn't come to a long term deal.
It sets it up Raiders and Jets really because of
the money and if you don't want to pay killil mack.
They moving to Las Vegas and having Levian Belt. Yeah,
I think it's I think you'll be on the silver
and black UniFormat and now, now, which one of the
rats that work on our business or the rats that
are listening, are going to hear this audio going to
(36:10):
cut it together and send it to UH freezing ice
cold takes or what are the what are they called
like icy hot takes? Or yeah? Whatever is the nerds
that run that Twitter account? Um? Which which one who's
going to send that out to UH? To one of
the nerds that run that Twitter account? Do you think
that if they're listening, Dan Buyer says it Laby on
(36:31):
Belt to the Raiders. All right, Dan Buyer, Jonas X
and for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio, get
Dan on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox you can
get me at the Jonas Knocks coming up next, though,
there is a we have got some information, all right,
We've got some information that we would like to share
with you. We've also got some predictions because we're going
(36:52):
to look in the future and we're going to tell
you what is going to happen in sports. Right, this
is tough to do. We're going to put our heads
together there, make it happen next year on FSR. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Doug got Leap
Show weekdays at noon Eastern three pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app on Fox Sports.
(37:14):
He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer. That is John Ramos,
and new John Ramos Show will come later on. In
the show wrapping up your Friday, Steve de Sagers now
to I don't know here to play a game? Okay,
this is game time on The Doug got Leap Show. Hello, Steve,
(37:35):
Good afternoon. Once again John Ramos of The John Ramo Show.
At John Ramos, do we have a name for the game? Psychic? Psychic? Hell?
Is somebody messing with my Okay? One more time, John,
I'm sorry, Hey, hey, he and will three more times.
I'm sure in the same segment. I'll give you an
item from the world of sports, and then you psychics
(37:56):
give me your prediction. Number one, The Atlanta Falcons will
be selling craft beer for just five dollars this season
at every home game. Of course they've had. They've been
known for the low food prices, food and drinks at
the new stadium. In fact, three dollar pizzas and bottom
less soda for two dollars at the place. Now five
dollar craft beer. How many weeks into the season until
they start regretting this decision? Oh, that's a good question.
(38:19):
Anytime I've eaten the three dollar pizza I've regretted, it's yes,
that is usually I will pay the extra buck just
to make sure we're getting quality. Oh yeah, you go
into a seven eleven. Some of the pizza they have
in a little um like that little container yesterday, like
last week, lamp. I walked in there to a seven
eleven recently, and I swear to God, the thing waved
at me. It is not not edible at all, but
(38:41):
cheap beer at a major league sporting of it. Well,
here's why, here's why the Falcons are kind of screwed
because they so they put a Chick fil A in
the stadium. But yeah, but but chick Chick fil A
is closed on Sundays, so it's closed on game Day Sunday.
So they need some extra revenue and they need a bargain.
And here's your bargain. They did this last year where
(39:02):
they did some cheap prices, but I think they'll regretting.
They're gonna regret it. I think, Steve, sometime between Week
one in Week seventeen, I think the faccults have been
good this year. So yeah, the Dodgers are currently four
and a half games back in the Diamondbacks in the
n L West. They're trailing in the wild card race
(39:23):
as well. But to the point good yes, because because
yeah go Brewers. Oh I see wild card race. Will
the Dodgers be winning the NLS with this ownership group?
They have won the nl West five straight years? Now? Well,
the West was one way. Yeah, this isn't out the West.
(39:48):
I feel like, um, I feel like we're being baited
into something here, Dan, Okay, Steve, So Steve, you know what, Steve,
I know what you want us to do, So we'll
go ahead and we'll abide you. What do you think, Steve?
Come on. He already asked this yesterday, seeing the answer
is no, this is your chance to air your grievances
over the organization on the air. Come on, Steve, let
(40:10):
her rip the team that is dead last with runners
in scoring position, two outs and leaving the amount of
men on base that they're not going anywhere. So ESPN
has in their standings the percentage of chances that this
team is going to make the playoffs. The Dodgers have
a fifty four point seven percent chance. The Rockies, who
are ahead of them by three and a half games
of the standings, seven point three per cent. Interesting, Dodgers
(40:35):
do get the worst team in the National leagual weekend,
the Padres. So I thought they were playing themselves. Come on,
Y Bellinger is in here today, so let's see, you know,
let's get it fired. Though, we like Cody Belinger. He
was really nice man. Yeah, he was awesome, really really nice,
(40:55):
and and it almost I know he didn't want to
say I didn't want to make the excuse for fatigue,
but he didn't exactly shoot it down. He did. He
did acknowledge that they were a little bit exhausted from
that gag job in Game seven last exhausted on the
Philadelphia Eagles, and John Ramos is here as well. John
Ramos is appearing in the preseason, but some of the
(41:16):
NFL's biggest stars, good luck with that until Week one
of the NFL regular season. That's what we are facing
in the NFL, and it is interesting to me that
I do think that this NFL preseason has provided a
lot more storylines and things to watch than in previous years.
It used to be that we were just trying to
get through the preseason, getting ready for Week one. We
(41:38):
were counting down to we had the Thirst Night opener.
But this year we've had rookie quarterbacks appearing in games. Guys,
We've had the helmet rule being an issue, the catch
rule is new, so there's been a lot of stuff
like in this preseason that we've been watching in the
NFL that is new. But one of the other things
that we haven't seen in the NFL is a lot
(41:59):
of the stars so far are in preseason action. Well,
I wonder if maybe the NFL preseason is going to
become a bigger deal as this goes on and on,
because college football is only getting more popular every year,
and it sort of is It's kind of a falls
in succession. High school recruiting becomes more of a big
deal because college football becomes more of a big deal.
(42:21):
And as college football becomes more of a big deal,
the first chance to get to see these college football
players is that the NFL Draft, and then afterwards is
that the NFL preseason. I actually wonder if this is
just the beginning of the NFL preseason. For as much
as we joke about it, for as much as we
complain about it, I wonder if it's as long as
these games are being played, if it's going to become
(42:42):
a bigger deal. See I I think it's strictly based
on the rookie quarterbacks, number one, specifically with teams like
the Browns and the Jets and the Cardinals and the Ravens,
and in the Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen, I think
that those guys are a reason to watch. I also
believe that now with this, with this helmet issue, I mean,
(43:03):
how many clips did we see from last week? There
were more than a couple that we're making the rounds
on Twitter of this is a penalty that is now
a penalty. How in the world can we figure out
what actually is is is real and what's legal and
what is not legal in the National Football League And now,
so you're watching a game last night to see if
there are any egregious calls or if there's anything that
(43:24):
knew that you need to see. I think that's something
that is pulling us in that we have never had
before in the NFL preseason. I find those Twitter numbers
to be a little bit funny to me, though, because
I put out a video of a roughing the passer
call on like a seventeen second video on Jacksonville that
I saw and I got like fourteen thousand views on
(43:45):
that video. I don't even have that many followers. So
who are twitters rounding up to make me feel better? Hey,
you can't give me a blue checkmark, but you round
up my view numbers. They're watching, They're saying, I want
to see this again. I'm gonna watching this again, and
a funny get your phone, let's go. Let's go on
double barrel on this. Hey, John, did you see this
clip here on the Jonas Knocks Twitter page. I want
(44:06):
to show you again. Refresh. How do I see this again? Yeah?
It is. There's been a lot of interesting things happening.
Um I also remember this is how far removed we are,
and this is how fast the game has changed. Remember
a few years ago when EJ. Manuel was the only
quarterback taken in the first round of the draft. That's
never gonna happen again. You're never gonna have one quarterback
(44:29):
taken in the first round of the draft unless you're
drafting from an eight man football team. Um. I just
it's it's changed. And I know it's like when we
talk about preseason and what's the point and the stadiums
are half empty and they're charging full price and nobody
cares about these games. I just I feel like if
(44:51):
you give the NFL and you give the NFL fans
football on television even in August, I just I don't
see in going away anywhere. I don't. It's like why
the NBA playoffs are always going to stay seven games
because you can make money. The NFL is still making
money on the preseason, regardless of how bad the play is,
and when the storylines are interesting to your point, it's
(45:13):
still gonna be a money maker and it's gonna do
great ratings. I think when you see just some of
the names, I don't know week four what we're gonna
get coming up on Thursday, which will be the final
night when a lot of the stars are sitting. I
don't know if you can even pull ratings. He probably
local ratings if you will, because I'm not sure there's
a national TV broadcast next week. But I just know
that the conversation of people watching games has gone up.
(45:33):
Now when you're watching games, you're not seeing stars, specifically
with the Los Angeles Rams, for example, they aren't playing
Jared Goff this preseason. I get it. With the running backs,
I mean, I really do like the less amount of hits.
I mean now we're even tracking carries in college to
see how much trended guy actually has on his tire,
(45:54):
how much has been worn out through throughout his college career.
We're looking at how many times he touched the ball
in college before he ever enters the NFL in hopes
that you'll have a long NFL career. I get it
with the running backs. Quarterbacks little interesting to me. Not
in the case of of Aaron Rodgers, Jonas or a
Tom Brady, who is going to play tonight against Carolina
after playing last week and making his debut against the Eagles.
(46:16):
But it's the younger guys that I still think that
that need to have some of the the rust taken off,
if you will, or to be able to get familiar
with their surroundings. I'm surprised you're seeing a lot of
the younger quarterbacks just maybe not get snaps like Jared
Gard Yeah, and especially and this is gonna sound you
know like I'm not concerned about injuries or whatnot. But
(46:39):
back in the day when you would have to pay
rookie quarterbacks the fifty million dollar signing bonus, to me,
that would be when you justify not wanting to risk
getting your big time investment injured. But if they're not
as expensive now, it's not as much of a financial
hit should something happen, because regardless, you're still gonna take
your lumps in the reak other season. I just I
(47:03):
feel like like almost like maybe coaches are overthinking this thing.
And I know we're gonna have Doug Peterson on and
Doug Peterson they even talked about, you know, with Nick
Foles dealing with the shoulder injury, was there any thought about,
you know, not putting him in there because he banged
up his shoulder A little bit, and Doug Peterson said, no,
he's got to play better, like we've got to get
a rhythm going. Unless you feel totally confident that that
(47:25):
quarterback is such a pro at your system, like a
Brady or a Rodgers or Drew Brees, then yeah, you
gotta play man like I do. I don't know how
you how you get better or knock the rust off
without playing. Jared Goff has had one good season and
one bad season in the NFL and his two that
are there. We asked Jeff Schwartz, former NFL lineman, on
(47:46):
Jared Goff taking off the preseason as he enters his
third year and whether that's a good idea for the Rams.
Signal caller I say, by the Rams situation, um is,
they're one of the teams that I've kind of sold
a little bit this year and I don't think they're
going to be awful. But you know, as far as
wind totals this year, I have them and Jacksonville to
you know, two teams of people kind of like is
under win totals. The Rams seem a little bit full themselves,
(48:11):
a little bit it's too good to be true, right, Yeah,
Like you have to play a little bit in the
previous third season. Yeah, and that's you have to play
a little bit, at least a couple of snaps and
for the Rams to be so worried that Jared Goff
is going to be hurt in one series or two series,
even the optics, even for the fans that actually show
(48:31):
up to pay the four dollars or whatever it could
coust two dollars to go to the Rams Texans game
coming up on Saturday, at least to see Jared Goff
maybe take a snap, I think would be worthwhile. Yeah,
it's um, but maybe Sean mcfhail. Look Sean mcfaced on
a lot of things that that have really really worked
within that organization, the Rams as a whole, to just
point when he says they're fascinating, because it doesn't normally
(48:53):
work when you when you have a team and you
have a ton of success and then you go out
and you continue to add controversial players all around to
try and load up and go chase championships. It usually
never works out, and it never works out. We saw
it with the Eagles after the NFL strike or the lockout,
whatever it was, back in two thousand and eleven. Went
(49:13):
out and loaded up and got Namdi awesome, won all
these guys and they were an eight and eight football team.
This never works out, So to me, I would want
to get as many reps for these guys. I I
understand the Todd Gurley, the wear and tear. I mean,
what do you have like almost eight hundred receiving yards
last year? Like he is the center point in the
focal point of that offense. But Sean McVeigh must really
(49:34):
have a ton of confidence in Jared Goff that he's
going to step back in and just continue on from
what he had last year. But this is going into
year three, and we've got two examples of Jared Goff's
career last year, which was really good, and the first
year he was awful. So it's not like he's a
shoeing to have a great year again. You just gave
Brandon Cooks a long contract extension worth a lot of money,
(49:56):
and yeah, and he's going to enter the first regular
season game never having been thrown a ball by his
starting quarterback in a game. So think about that. I'm
trying to of trying to maybe I'll make that note
for fantasy this Sunday at nine o'clock Eastern time, Sunday morning,
A fantasy football preview my Carmon and myself. But when
(50:18):
you think about it, when Brandon Cooks and Jared Goff
line up on the same field in Oakland on Monday
night of Week one, it is going to be the
first time that they are lining up on the field
together on the same team. Now, are are you? Are
you saying here, and I don't want to put words
in your mouth, but I am. Are you saying here,
Dan that you like the Raiders in that game on
(50:41):
Monday night? I'm saying this is I really like Cooper
Cup as a fantasy sleeper. I really, I mean he was.
He was Goff's favorite target last year in Todd Gurley.
I think that the team in receptions, but Cup was second.
Robert Woods obviously back healthy as well. But I really
like Cooper Cup. I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
Go to the guy that Jared Goff is familiar with.
(51:02):
There it is. Yeah, there's your fantasy And how about that? John?
What do you want that your rams? Baby? I agree
with that. By the way, last night, I hit Cooper
Cup on an eighteen yard slant in Madden eighteen for
a touchdown. All right, I think that one you get
the new game, sticking with last year. I gotta finish
that one off first. So who who was the quarterback?
Was it Sean mannon? So it felt like real life?
(51:25):
Make it realistic? And Sean man was Jared Goffee? Jared Jared?
All right? Interesting? All right? Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks in
for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Spars Radio. Get Dan
on Twitter at Dan Buyer on Fox you can get
me a de Jonas knocks and John playing in his
maddened season head Mark Bulger hooking up with Ozhigh. Yeah, yeah, yes,
(51:50):
not that. Yeah. Now is it? What was it the
Edward James Dome or what is it Edward? We're at
the Colosseum? Yeah? Interesting Madden? Now is it? Is the
game so realistic that you can see all the fights
in the crowd? Is not part of it? All right?
John has taken his front office budget, zero security, all
(52:12):
in the candy, Yes, all right? Coming up next here
on Fox Sports Radio, a Super Bowl champion head coach
Doug Peterson, coach of the Eagles, joins you next here
on FSR, he's Jonas Knox. I'm Dan buyer. That is
John Ramos and John Ramos Show comes up in about
(52:34):
ten minutes or so. Today's Doug Gottlim Show is brought
to you by n H T s A. Everyone knows
about the risks of driving drunk. People could get hurt
or killed. You could get arrested and kur huge legal expenses,
or even lose your job. If you think drunk driving
is no big deal, you couldn't be more wrong. Drive
sober or get pulled over. It is crazy to think
that we are less than two weeks away from real football.
(52:57):
It's it's it's exciting, it's the The preseason has gone
a little bit quicker than I usually imagined. Usually it
kind of dregs on a bit, but but we are
less than two weeks away. Thank god. I'm so sick
of talking about the NBA. Johnny Yes, Now he's the
Super Bowl champion head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, coming
off the heels of last night's gaming Cleveland. He's also
(53:19):
got a new book out, Fearless, How an Underdog Becomes
a Champion. Doug Peterson joins this year on Fox Sports Radio. Coach,
thanks so much for taking the time today. We appreciate
you coming on. Hey, well, thank you guys for having me.
And then uh, you know you talked about the book
a little bit. It's uh it was a nice little
project for me, and I appreciate you having me. No, now,
let me ask you this. And I don't know if
this isn't in the book, because I may have missed it,
(53:41):
but if you ever been in a game that didn't
involve a glove that ended five zero before last night? Yeah, yeah,
that's what I was thinking. Softball game, maybe a high
school baseball game. I know, I know it was. It
was a very very odd, odd scoring game him and
just just odd doing a general but yeah, five nutton
(54:03):
is not your typical NFL football game. Coach, How important
is the preseason with with safety being such an issue
and wanting to make sure players are are healthy when
you get to the regular season. Is it Is it
as important as it used to be? I think it's
I think it's becoming uh more prevalent now with you know,
(54:23):
resting guys and getting guys ready for for the regular season.
I think even with the cut down uh time in
the spring, uh you know, uh trying to get guys
prepared in the spring and then obviously in training camp
getting getting your starter is prepared as Uh, there's a
little bit of a fine line because I definitely don't
want to don't want to risk injury. And right now
(54:45):
we've got a number of guys offensively that are that
are nicked up and and have been out of a
couple of these games. So it's still a little difficult
and then a little bit of a rhythm, but uh,
it's been good for some of them players too, you know,
to get a lot of time and and show us
what the what the doing the Eagles that coach Doug
Peterson joining us at Fox Sports Radio, has got a
(55:06):
new book out, Fearless, How an Underdog Becomes a Champion.
When did you make the decision to not have nick
full start in your preseason finale on Thursday? Typically go
into the last game and and and you know not
have not have either the starter the backup type quarterback
you know, play in in in that fourth game. And
(55:29):
and we've got a couple other guys in Nate steps
failed and of course now we have you know, Joe
Callahan and Christian Hackerberg who we want to see in
this last game. So we got enough enough enough decided
to to keep you know, to keep our our normal
players out of out of that last out of that
(55:49):
last game. UM. Fans and media Doug Peterson, head coach
of the Philadelphia Eagles, with us here on Fox Sports Radio.
Fans and media sometimes will overreact, knee jerk reaction. It's
part of the NFL. You being a coach, somebody who
is there in the locker room around these guys. How
concerned are you with the play of Nick Foles in
that offense? You know, I'm not because I go back
(56:12):
to last year and you know, people were concerned about
his play, you know, towards the end of the year,
prior to the postseason, and and obviously things got things
that turned around in a her and things got fixed,
and and uh, you know, it's it's why, that's why
with the coaches hats as, I've got to get him
prepared and and and you know, put put a plan
together going going forward that it is conducive to his
(56:36):
strengths and at all our quarterbacks strengths, and and uh,
you know, so I'm not concerned, and and it's you know,
he's a professional. And then he's gonna learn from from
the good and the bad and and we're gonna fix it.
We're gonna move forward. Doug Peterson, head coach of the Eagles,
joining us on Fox Sports Radio. He's Jonas Knocks, I'm
Dan Buyer, I'm I'm assuming you reached out to other
(56:56):
coaches for advice on how to prevent a hangover from
a Super Bowl win. And with that advice, what's the
most common piece of advice you've heard when talking to
others who have experienced it. You know, the biggest thing,
I think the common, the common and what everybody would
would would I think kind of go oh, that makes sense.
(57:18):
It's you know, it's complacency made about complacent feel a
little bit and feeling that. But you know, I think
the biggest thing I've heard with these guys is how
success can can contrain your football team, meaning, um, you know,
another autograph session, or another radio show or you know,
(57:39):
another television show. It takes it away from your job,
takes away my workout. That's those are the things that
begin to creep in and and can can you know, uh,
kind of the fabric of your team a little bit
and pull you away from you know what got you
to the Super Bowl, and that's hard work. So, um,
those are things that we're guarding against. Those are things
that I openly talked to her team about and want
(58:01):
to make sure that they understand that, Uh, you know,
there's no substitution for preparation and hard work and the
things that got us to the game last year, and
we've got to move forward in the same direction. He's
Doug Peterson, head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, with us
here on Fox Sports Radio, Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox in
for Doug Gottlieb. I remember talking to Brian Billick about
this to where he said he had planned about he
(58:22):
had planned on when he became a head coach. He
was going to do this, and he had this set
up and all of that, and then he finally became
a head coach and he thought got him I even
ready for this because it was so much more than
he realized. I know, you touch on getting hired in
the book, was it was it more than than what
you realized it was when you finally became a head
coach in the NFL, you know, it's it's always more. Um.
(58:46):
I don't think you ever um totally want to prepared
for for what you're stepping into, because you know, a
lot of times you're stepping into a situation that's that's
not very good and and any time under coach hired,
it's usually the situation using the case and and so
you know, my biggest thing was just having to change
(59:06):
the culture of the of the organization of the game
and coming in and you know, getting back to hard,
hard training camp practices and and uh, you know, talking
to the team in a certain way and building character
with amongst the players and trust and and all the
things that you know, we talked about with with our guys.
(59:26):
I had to I had to do that. And you know,
sometimes you're uh, you know, I just don't think you're
fully capable to understand that until you're in it. And
then you just you work through it and you sort
it out and and you know, for me, it was
it was a one day of the time mentality, and
that's that's what we were able to do. And you know,
(59:47):
seven and nine, our first year, the thirteen and three
and just just continuing to work hard and and uh
getting our players to play with every single weekend ego,
said Couch. Doug Peterson with this on Fox Sports RADI
you know, what was your first impression when you met
Brett Farve Country come to town. Um, you know, just
(01:00:10):
a just a good old boy, you know, and and
someone that uh loved ball, loved competition, loved you know,
maybe not so much practice, but loved games and just
the competition that competes in them was one of the
things that really stood out when I first met Bratton
and uh, you know for eight years and green pay
(01:00:31):
that that that never wavered with him. What what do
you take from him as a teammate or a friend
that you use as a coach now with the Eagles.
You know, I think I think the way he approaches
the game. One, uh, he puts into hard work, he
puts in the time, but at the same time, he
loves that fun and enjoying the process. And I think
(01:00:52):
that's something that that I've tried to do, you know
my first two years. Is it still get to work
in and and and all the all the things that
go and you know, uh day's work of practice and
corporation to to lead to a game, but at the
same time, remember to enjoy it, you know, remember to
have fun during the whole process because you never you
(01:01:13):
never know what it's going to be, the last game,
the last year, and you want to make sure that
you've you've enjoyed up in movement along the way. Eagle
Side coach Doug Peterson with us here on Fox Sports Radio.
Last one for Me, Coach, Um, you talked about this
in the book. You had a pretty good feeling before
the Super Bowl when you met with Bill Belichick at midfield.
Take us through that. You know, it was just a
(01:01:34):
feeling that I had based on how our team handled
the two weeks leading up to leading up to the
to the game, and there was just there was just
a calm presence with that guys in the investing room,
and and you know, I think sometimes you go out
on the field and and uh, you know, there might
be a little doubt that creeps in that you might
(01:01:56):
might struggle with business game or you know, he quite
uncertain that maybe a game plan is is the right one,
and you know, but we walked out on that field
which is a just sort of a quiet column, a
quiet confidence, and the guys just uh just sort of
relished in the moment. They were having fun, they were loose.
(01:02:16):
It was exciting to see him in pre game, and
and uh I just felt like that, uh maybe at
the time, you know, um we we it might be
all time, you know, and there might be a time
that that team was gonna gonna play well, and and
sure enough they did. So then how long did you
enjoy it for the Super Bowl? The Super Bowl win? Yeah,
(01:02:37):
it was it a couple of days, a couple of weeks.
When did you start looking at the season. So basically
after the parade was over. So we played the game
on Sunday before us we had the parade the following Thursday,
and on Friday we were doing our player evaluation. So
on Friday that week, we were always flipping the page
and flipping the script. Less than a week, less than
(01:02:58):
a week. The book is yearless. How an underdog becomes
a champion. I guess that's how you become a champion.
Don't celebrate for too long. Doug Peterson the head coach
of the Philadelphia Eagles. The book is out now. We
appreciate a coach. Good luck in repeating and good luck
of the season. Doug Peterson had coached the Philadelphia Eagles
(01:03:19):
Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here on
Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next here on fs are
we are going to do something we have never done
on the show before, all right, a first time in
sports radio history. If you want to be a part
of it, don't go anywhere. That's coming up next. But
for all the latest from around the world of sports.
A man who's always historic, ladies and gentlemen, Stephen Sea,
(01:03:42):
thank you. And last night's Eagles Brown's matchup on Fox
was a game people were looking forward to despite being
an exhibition. Is join us pointed out to me it
was the best meter market rating for Fox for a
preseason game since two over and it was five nothing.
That's five thing final And the NFL could roll out
(01:04:05):
a dog turn, tell you it was a Snickers bar
and you and you go for it like it's unbelievable.
As I mentioned yesterday, it's the biggest scam in professional
sports in this country. Is the full price is paid
Forget the ratings and the fact that we're not on
TV seeing that, but there are full prices being paid
for all of this month's NFL games. It's just amazing
to me. Green Bay at Oakland, for example, is one
(01:04:26):
of the six exhibitions tonight. Most of the Packers offensive
starters are expected to sit. There was some report from
NFL Network yesterday wouldn't even be making the trip to
Northern California. Ex Dolphins tight end Julius Thomas retired. He'll
pursue a doctorate in psychology and study. Ct Raven's first
round tight end Hayden Hurst, with a foot injury, could
(01:04:47):
miss three to four weeks. Alabama gave its athletic director
Greg Byrne a three year extension and a pay raise.
As for MLB, there is one game going on right
now Wrigley Field, Chicago. The Cubs are tied one with
the Cincinnati Reds in the top of the eighth. Matt
Harvey went five and a third as the Red starter.
He will not be traded to the Brewers. The Red
say they couldn't come up with an agreement that made
(01:05:09):
sense for them. Milwaukee had put in a waiver claim.
Boston at Tampa Bay tonight, Yankees at Baltimore. The Boston
Red Sox best overall record ninety and thirty nine so
far this season. That's kind of good. And golf starting
the PGA Tours postseason, Phil Mickelson with another sixty eight today,
so he's four back of the leader Jamie Lovemark, who
(01:05:31):
has a two stroke lead over Adam Scott, who still
has a couple holes to go in his second round.
Tiger Woods likely to make the cut. He's now two
under par through thirteen holes and still she holes go
second round, but the cut line about even par. And guys,
even without Tiger Woods. B g A Tour ratings were
still up last Sunday for the final round of the
Windham two point six million viewers, while the baseball got
(01:05:53):
one point six million. The Sunday night game at Williamsport
the Little League Classic with the Mets and the Phillies,
and one of the leftover questions from last hour at
the Psychic Game, Guys, Yeah, I specifically wanted to you
to get this question because Tiger Woods won't say yet
how much that pay per view match with Phil Mickelson's
gonna cost Thanksgiving weekend? For whatever, it's worth less than
(01:06:16):
a UFC pay per view. How much do you think
they're going to charge for this thing in November? Jonas,
I thought, I thought ten bucks. You win both showcases.
You know what they say, Steve, you win you lose something. Yes,
there you go. I also I also I also had
(01:06:41):
a you mentioned Phil Mickelson. Bill Michaelson joined Twitter yesterday
and right now is one and sixty nine thousand followers.
Guaranteed he already follows Bovada, so he's following forty two people.
Let's see what we've got your Jack Nicholas, Gary Player,
John rom j s Ramo zero six, The John Ramos Show,
(01:07:03):
Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Unter Mahan, Ian Poulter, Straight out
of Vegas, Paintason Duffner, Yeah, Paint Insider, Vegas Insider. Yeah,
I've see it all right now there it is. Yeah,
all right, that's that's who it is. And producer r G.
The producer r G. There we go a sman. That's
(01:07:24):
where you can find Robert. Thank you very much, Steve.
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Dan Buyer, that's Jonas Knox. He is John Ramos,
and it is a new part of the show coming
up here on Fox Sports Radio. As we unveil right after,
John Yawns, Sorry, John, Yeah, maybe it's nerves when I'm
nervous at yawn As well, so I can get that.
(01:07:48):
John will be playing the game. Seats or streets. We
use our deal or no deal music for this. John
Ramos will have to decipher what is worth more? Are
the seats at a particular game or something that you
can get on the streets? All right, simple enough? Right? Yeah,
all right, Johnny you're ready to play? Yes, guys, I'm
(01:08:09):
always ready to play. Thank you for having me again.
Seats or streets. So all you have to do is
take the seat at the game or what you're gonna
find on the streets. Now, Dan can I is he
allowed to go to Steve to Seger for one of
these lifeline Steve, please, as we do during the Millionaire games.
He's always somebody I could count on everybody. Alright, Sure,
(01:08:30):
we've got eight scenarios for you, John, only in games.
I understand. Seats are street Jonas. Do you want to start?
Should I get it going? I can start? Dan? All right, John,
ready for this? John? Tell me this? What is more
expensive between the two? A ticket to this weekend's Texans
Rams preseason game or a bottle of vizine? What's more expensive?
(01:08:59):
I say the Rams Texans game? That is incorrect? Do
you say seats or streets? John's seats or streets? Yes?
Would you like the seats or the vizine on the streets?
I would say street. And you know, we actually referenced
the cost of the Texans Rams game earlier in the show.
(01:09:19):
So artist price here John wasn't listening. What is the
tickets to that outhouse in downtown? Maybe John doesn't want
to blow all of his money at the Rams game
because he wants to take in the Dodgers game tonight
as they host the San Diego Padres. John, would you
(01:09:42):
like to pick seats or streets as what is I
don't know worth more so it's the cheapest ticket or
the or streets than the combo at Popeye's the number
seven combo copy. They finally found this part of this
a So, seats or streets would you like to see
(01:10:03):
that the Dodgers game or the number seven combo at Popeyes, which,
by the way is a five piece tender mild or spicy,
one side, one drink and biscuits, oh and biscuit John. Yes,
And this, by the way, by the way, is the
Popeyes two miles up on Pa San where they know me.
(01:10:25):
You know what they say Dan when you're driving into work,
biscuit or click it biscuit or click it's why biscuit?
Why biscuit? Well, after too many biscuits, you can't click it.
Seats or streets? What is more expensive? Well, eeapest ticket
at the Dodger game tonight against the Padres of the
number seven combo at Popeyes early in the show. Earlier
(01:10:46):
in this show, Steve mentioned the Padres not having a
great season. So I'm gonna say that it's the street
that the cost war to get the number seven at
the Popeyes down the street. That is correct, plus tax.
We don't include the tax, but the nine dollar game
ticket is what you can get on the secondary market
(01:11:07):
right now, so the combo would actually cost you more
before taxes. And interestingly, guys, the number seven also the
number of men left on base by Jack Peterson Win John,
are you ready y? Yes see? Or street you are
(01:11:30):
one and one? So far? Here we go, John? Which
is more expensive a ticket to the forty Niners Colts
preseason game or a big mac John Cedar Street? Well,
I hope the forty Niners would pay me to go
(01:11:52):
see him, but I would say it would be the
street that is incorrect, John, this is a close call.
We're not including taxes here because a big Mac is three.
A ticket to get into forty Niners Colts four dollars
by a penny, John Ramos, do you lose? Well, bet
(01:12:14):
it's four dollars plus fees, so you you really lose? Yeah,
that's true. Way to go, John, Tonight's in Major League Baseball.
The Mets are home to the Washington Nationals. Would a
game ticket to that game costs more than a subway
ticket from the World Trade Center to Times Square. I'm
(01:12:35):
gonna sound town to Midtown. I'm gonna say seat Dan.
That is correct to see the Nats and Mets to
for the subway ride. He's staying alive, Washington, still in it, guys?
All right, Johnny? You ready for this? All right? Seed
or street? Which is more expensive a ticket to the
(01:13:00):
Bengals Bills preseason game or an eighteen pack of bud Light? Yeah?
I don't drink, so I'm gonna use Steve on this one,
who also doesn't go. Well, why don't you check your lifeline?
Go to Tim Tebow at it? John god Stevens. Stevens
(01:13:20):
is one of the one guys in the Billy who
doesn't have a drinking problem, and John goes to him.
I would still go with Steve. People are excited for Buffalo, right,
so it's uh, what regular season? Preseason? So what is
your answer? I would say the street. So even though
(01:13:45):
he just broke it down for you, you're still going
to take the street, John Cedar Street Street, You're still
going with Streets. That seat seat notice you're going. Yes,
that is incorrect. Pack of bud Light is more expensive
(01:14:07):
than the sixteen dollars to get into Bengals bills. By
the way, yeah, can I get the yeah this music,
this tell me this this hit a second hold. I
went to wait to the my favorite part of this
song because it goes through. But just is this is
the incredible theme. It's so bad. You know what this is?
(01:14:31):
At the other one quarter of play here on the
Mountain West Network, Colorado State seventeen zero, second quarter action,
it sounds like a college football network song. Jonas familiar
with that score. Steve still being so mean. I had
a great time playing the game, guys, you're well, you're
still playing. I've got one more A's at Twins tonight
(01:14:52):
in the beautiful city of Minneapolis. Cedar Street. What is
worth more a ticket to this game? Or the blue
luberry rhubarb cobbler at the Minnesota State Fair that's going
on right now. The State Fair is one of the
biggest things. I think I'm gonna say the cobbler. I'm
gonna say Street. John's three for three with me, you
(01:15:13):
can see a seven and Dad, damn, we need a
tiebreaker quickly? Should we do one? It's the seventh game,
the seventh game here on Cedar Street with John Ramos
starring Steve to say, here we go Cedar Street, John,
more expensive a ticket to the Ravens Dolphins preseason game
this weekend or a one month subscription to Mike Frances's
(01:15:37):
new app, Cedar Street. What's more expensive? Right? We just
changed the rules to the game. We decided to make
it even more confusing, Like the seventh game of the
NBA Finals. They play bocci ball? But what's the most expensive?
(01:15:58):
I would say that the um it would be the street. No,
it would be the street. Yeah, the street. Mike Frances
is happy think is more expensive for one month than
than a ticket to an NFL preseason game? Is that
your final answers? You are correct? Seven dollars. A lot
of people were complaining about that when that price came
(01:16:21):
out yesterday. You can also see us on the streets
after this segment was totally confusing. It will be better
next time with graphics man. You'll see us with seats
saying I need tickets. Yeah. By the way, if we
ever go simulcast, we are screwed. Yes, that's them twice
(01:16:42):
a month, all right, Dan Buyer jonasknock him for Doug
gott Leevier on Fox Boards Radio. Coming up next, there
is an NFL player who many of you dislike, but
according to one of the most recognizable voices in all
of sports, he is going to get paid. We'll tell
you who that is next on Fox Sports Radio, and
(01:17:08):
today's show is brought to you by True Car. Car
shopping can't be confusing with terms like dealer, price, list, price,
and invoice. True Car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want, so you can recognize a
good price when you're ready to buy a new or
use car versus True Car to enjoy a more confident
car buying experience. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer in
for Doug. John Rama show comes up in about forty minutes.
(01:17:28):
But right now, we like to take something interesting from
Fox Sports Radio or Fox Sports One and play it
back to you in a segment called a Good Buddy.
Rob Parker today was on Fox Sports One hanging out
with the guys on Undisputed and at this to say about, oh,
b J, Hey the man, Hey the man, skip your
(01:17:51):
hand in a big apple. This is gonna be the
big cheddar. He should get every dime he can get.
He's that dynamic of a player. He's done nothing were
produced since right third in receptions on average, third in
yards on average per game, total touchdowns, he's second. So
he's done all those things with Antonio Brown and Julio Jones,
(01:18:14):
so he he um matches up with those guys. So
I have no issue. Sure, would you have liked him
to be healthy and not coming off an injury, I
get it, Yes, if I'm the Giants, I would. But
you're watching him practice and you're watching him through everything,
so you have to feel confident that he's good. He's back,
and you know he's one of those dynamic players who's
(01:18:37):
just bigger than the team that he's on. You know,
there's not a lot of guys like that, who are who?
He's just a star And that was Rob Parker earlier today.
Rob's last point maybe the most silients of them all.
I think he's going to get paid no matter what.
You're not gonna let him go. But he is the
star with New York. And if the Jets are going
to pass the Giants for as good as Sam Donald,
(01:19:00):
and we don't know what's next for the Jets. For
the Giants, you've got Odell Beckham Jr. And that's it
right now for for star power in trying to win
that city. He's gonna get paid. But it may be
a celebrity. That maybe the reason why he's so valuable
to the Giants. How good have they been with Odell
Beckham Jr. Because they don't have any playoff wins? They
made the playoffs once? Right? Um? Because yeah? And uh?
(01:19:23):
And he missed the majority of last season or all
of last season with the injury. I I don't I
understand the idea. He's a star and you don't want
to lose stars. Um with that kind of star power
in New York. And I get all that because you
want to win that part of the debate there in
New York. But at the same time, you don't you
don't have to sign him now like there there's no
(01:19:45):
it's not a demand that you sign him now. You
are you really have control over the next two years
to see whether or not a he can figure it
out off the field and be he can stay healthy.
What's are big, big questions And it's not trying to
uh go go on the cheap with Odell Beckham. It's
wanting to make sure that your investment is going to
(01:20:05):
the right place and that he has shown you something.
So if I'm the Giants, I'm in no rush to
sign him now unless you're confident he's going to be
healthy and behave off the field. I don't get the rush.
You think all positions should be handled like Levy on
Belts has both the Steelers in the franchise tag. Yeah,
(01:20:27):
I like if you have the ability, But that's also
a two year deal to where they've offered him contracts,
They've tried to get it done, he's continuing to hold
out more. Who knows whether he's friends with Kirk Cousins,
maybe wants guaranteed money. I just think the Giants need
to see more from Odell Beckham. Jr. Health wise and
also from an off the field standpoint, before they can
(01:20:48):
commit to him. That's the big question that the The
counterpoint of that would be give him the contract now
and if it falls apart um, maybe you're only you know,
two years or three years. You're hoping that he comes
back and would at least have this year and if
something would happen in the next offseason, then maybe then
maybe you can cut bait without losing as much. A
(01:21:09):
lot of options out there, a lot of money out
there in the NFL, but players aren't getting paid. We'll
talk about it next and John Rolis is here as well.
There's Ramos there. Yeah, he's getting ready the bottom of
the hour. John Ramos showed to wrap up your week
here on Fox Sports Radio. No Doug today, so you've
(01:21:31):
got Jonas, John and myself hanging out. We had Doug
Peterson head go to the Philadelphia Eagles on the show earlier.
We'll hear from him in a sect. But coming off
the heels of a five nothing game last night that
they dropped to the Cleveland Browns defensively, he could say, hey,
al right, good good work guys offensively. Maybe a little
(01:21:53):
different story from a team. And by the way, I'll
admit it, I didn't bring it up with Doug Peterson
saying that I just I don't get a good from
the Eagles. It's probably my fault. But yeah, this offseason
hasn't been great for the Philadelphia Eagles and last night's
five nothing defeat at the hands of the Browns kind
of goes along with that theory. Yeah, Nick Foles stunk period.
They haven't scored with Nick Foles at quarterback. No scoring
(01:22:17):
drives with Nick Foles as the starting quarterback um this offseason.
And I know that for those you and I don't
mean to give away any secrets here on the air,
but if you really want to get a rise out
of Dan Buyer and you want to make sure that
you bother him and piss him off while he's on
Twitter when a game like that happens last night, all
(01:22:37):
you have to do is tweet Indians over the Phillies
five nothing. I guess, Hey, check out this baseball score
man always there. There was one last night prominent NFL
insider name rhymes with dadam beefter. Oh yeah, got the win?
(01:22:59):
Come one bad comedy out, oh man? Like what was
worse the game, or the jokes about the game on Twitter.
That's close? That was that was closer than last night's game.
Actually was was it good? Back and forth? Everybody's like
doing their open mic practice at the ha ha. They're
(01:23:21):
just doing practicing on Twitter. The Eagles off season has
been interesting, to say the least, and it really started
with the parade and has already gone through the preseason
with Carson Wentz status. Yeah you forgot about the guy
eating a horse? Crap? Yeah, I was gonna put that
into the parade portion? Was that the celebration after it?
Was that? That was the night after the Super Bowl?
Also the guy punched the horse? Yeah, there was. There
(01:23:42):
was all of that. So there's a lot to be
intrigued about this Eagles offseason, but there may not be
a lot to be excited about, considering we really don't
know when Carson Wentz is going to be back at
quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles. But there are signs that
you can take that I think will tell you that
Carson Wents won't play week one. I felt that way
(01:24:02):
for a while. I think you have as well. That
there's just you're not gonna see Carson Wentzon week one.
And one of the reasons I thought that you wouldn't
see Carson Wentz in Week one recently was that Nick
Foles was starting last night against the Cleveland Browns. And
this was a game, the third preseason game, which a
lot of people feel as your dress rehearsal. This was
a week after he injured his shoulder in a preseason
(01:24:24):
game against the New England Patriots. So it was surprising,
even though he was cleared and returned to practice that
you would take a risk to say, all right, let's
put our potential Week one starter into Harm's way and
play him last night. But you have to get some continuity.
You've got to get things on the same page. Also,
and Jeffrey is injured. He's not gonna be with you
for a while. Maybe the first six weeks of the season,
(01:24:46):
you lost Legarrett Blunt, You're still You're doing a lot
of different things, and Nick Foles being ready to start
Week one is a big thing. We had Doug Peterson
on earlier in the show in the Super Bowl Head
coach ast if he was concerned with Nick Foles with
that shoulder injury, and after throwing two picks last night,
you know, I'm not because I go back to last year,
(01:25:06):
and you know, people were concerned about his play, you know,
towards the end of the year, prior to the postseason,
and and obviously things got things that turned around in
a hood and things got fixed, and and uh, you know,
it's it's why, that's why with the coaches had as,
I've got to get him prepared and and and you know,
put put a plan together going going forward that it
(01:25:28):
is conducive to his stakes. And you know, so I'm
not concerned and and it's you know, he's a professional,
and then he's gonna learn from from the good and
the bad and and we're gonna fix it. We're gonna
move forward. Interesting stuff from Doug Peterson. I mean, here's
but here's the reality about Nick Foles. He's a backup
for a reason. And I'm not trying to do I mean,
(01:25:48):
he's he had a ton of success and he wanted
Super Bowl. But he's good in short spurts. And so
when people now have seen film on him or or
have seen what he does in that offense, and they
can study and get prepared and it's not one of
these Cardale Jones type situations at Ohio State where he
steps into big games and he performs well, but it's
also because nobody knows what he can do, and then
(01:26:10):
you get a little bit of film on him and
it's a different player altogether. I just think the conversation
should go back to listen, look at it the totality
of his career, not three games in which he played
lights out and won a Super Bowl. And if you
look at the totality of his career, he's not a
guy you can depend on to be an elite level
quarterback all season long. And so if he's still playing
(01:26:35):
in last night's game and you didn't go to Carson Wentz,
that that tells you that he's going to at least
be the starter for Week one, and you don't, I mean,
you get in. You're playing Atlanta. They're gonna be out
for revenge. Um first game of the season to open up.
It's at home. The place is going to be jumping.
I think their defense is good enough that's gonna keep
(01:26:55):
him in games the entire season. But I I don't.
I would be inncern with what I saw, I really
would with. We also asked Doug Peterson in the phone
kind of broke up of when he decided that they
weren't going to play Nick Foles in that final preseason game.
He mentioned that they wanted to look at Nate Sudfeld
and Joe Callahan and Christian Hackenburg. Well, Nate Sudfeld played
(01:27:18):
almost the entire game against the New England Patriots because
of Nick Fole's shoulder injury, So what more do you
have to see from him that you haven't already seen?
And to me, it's just like, all right, this is
what we've got with Nick Foles. Let's hold him out
because we can't risk an injury heading into that Week
one game against the Atlanta Falcons. It's it's it's it's
(01:27:40):
how you've used it. And we talked about Tyrod Taylor,
excuse me, Trod Taylor coming back with the Cleveland Brown's
last item on the motives and what you can read
between the lines, and it's Hugh Jackson wants to save
his job and how the egos and Doug Peterson have
handled Nick Foles in this preseason tells you everything you
need to know about Carson Wentz. When you lose Week
one in the NFL, Week two becomes almost a must win,
(01:28:02):
and the numbers prove it. Less than eleven percent of
teams in the last decade who starting two in the
season go on to make the playoffs. So when you
lose week one, week two becomes a pretty damn important game.
Now you you're at Tampa Bay and it's Ryan Fitzpatrick,
but it's still a road game, so it's not like
it's a total guarantee that you're gonna go in there
(01:28:23):
and you're gonna win that game. So that makes Week
one that much more important. I just I here would
be my concern if they feel like, all right, is
Carson Wentz at least close enough that we would be
comfortable with it, and let's get him back in there.
To me, if he's your franchise quarterback, you can't play
(01:28:44):
that game. You've got to go with Nick Foles. And
what you've seen so far of Nick Foles has been terrible,
Like he's he's been not been good at all. You
can make the argument Stutfeld has been better than Nick
Foles in these games. I know he's playing different defenses,
but I don't know, man. I just I have not
to your point, and we've talked about this before. I've
not had a good feeling about this uh, Doug Peterson.
(01:29:04):
Peterson even alluded to it that where you asked him
that you've talked to coaches, what do they say about
a hangover effect? And they've all said, you know, complacency,
you know, fatigue, you're out doing this, You're not You're
not doing that. Meanwhile, he's doing a book tour like
all that, Like that was the most ironic part of
it all. And so I just if I were an
Eagle fan, I would have reservations about this season. And
(01:29:25):
that book is Fearless How an underdog becomes a good
and in store now. Doug Peterson head coach of the Philadelphiagles.
So we appreciated his time and his answers and and
telling us about, you know, what's what's happening with the
Eagles and how he feels coming into the season. But
when you look at at the moves that were that
were made and how they've dealt with them, it's an
interesting point. It's also about an interesting point how the
(01:29:47):
Rams have dealt with their star players, how the Patriots
have dealt with their star players, ow the Packers are
gonna deal with their star players. Each team are on
the National Football League doing different things with veterans. The
Packers gonna play Aaron Rodgers may not lay again in
the preseason after playing a little bit in week to
Tom Brady played an entire half last week and is
gonna play against the Panthers tonight. Well, Jared Goff in
(01:30:07):
the Rams, you're not gonna see golf at all this preseason.
You're not gonna see Todd Gurley at all this preseason
for the Rams, wanting to keep them safe and ready
to go for Week one of the regular season. It's
intriguing and I think it's gonna be more of the
norm now, Jonas, You're going to see NFL teams handled
the preseason like they do the way that the Rams
have been. I don't think you're gonna see more and
(01:30:29):
more stars. I think you're gonna see less and less
of them. Yeah, that I guy would. I would completely
buy into that, except for the idea that Jared Goff's
had one good year as a quarterback in the NFL.
Like this, this from my I remember this back in
the day, um two thousand five. I remember this. Rex
Grossman was the quarterback of the Bears. He was going
(01:30:51):
to be their starter. He gets hurt in the preseason,
so they go to Kyle Orton, and Kyle Orton played
okay as a rookie quarterback of fourth round pick, I believe,
and they were in position to make the playoffs and
they were going to go on and have success in
the playoffs because the defense was so good. This is
the year before they went to the Super Bowl. Well,
on a Sunday night game, Kyle Rton was playing so
(01:31:13):
bad against Atlanta. I believe that at halftime, Lovey Smith
benched him and put in Rex Grossman for the first
time of the season. And it was the second to
last game of the season, so Grossman played one half,
and then week seventeen, Lovey Smith sat Rex Grossman so
he could keep them healthy for the playoff game. He
gets played one half the entire year. I guess what happened.
(01:31:36):
They hosted a playoff game and they got bombed. It's
just like, I don't to me, reps matter man. I
know we can all pretend like now he's totally comfortable
in the offense. Anybody I've talked to, you're not fully
prepared when the season starts. Well, that's that's where I
think we've come to this day and age is you
are going to get more backlash if your starter is
(01:31:58):
hurting the preseason and instead of maybe your starter not
having success in the regular season because he didn't get
reps in the preseason. I think the risk that coaches
are going to want to take is we're not gonna
win if we don't have our star player. But if
we don't have a star player, it's because he's not
playing well, not because we lost him to injury in
(01:32:18):
a game that was meaningless. That's how I think these
coaches are now starting to think, and I think that's
how the Rams are starting to think with Sean McVeigh,
because it just doesn't make sense that you give all
this money to Brandon Cooks and now Jared Goff is
not gonna have any reps outside of practice, throwing to
him like that's it's mind boggling. But I think it's
gonna be a trend in the NFL because these coaches
(01:32:40):
are gonna get more flak if there's an injury than
if their player doesn't play well in the regular So
I couldn't imagine, like our boss, Scott Shapiro, Hey you
want to you want to work this up coming week?
I got a day open. You want to work, No,
I think I got this thing. I'll just save it
for the weekend. Have you heard my show? I need
all the reps I can get. Let me come on,
man like, put me in there, coach. We're gonna have
(01:33:01):
John Ramos host eighteen hours. Yes on the John Ramos Show.
There you go. He doesn't need any reps. He's ready
to go. Week one of the regular season. Dan Buyer,
Jonas Knox in for Doug gott Leave here on Fox
Sport Trade. You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan
Buyer on Fox. You can get me at the Jonas
Knox coming up next. There is a big event, all right,
a big event and a champion to be crowned. Find
(01:33:24):
out what we're talking about next year on Fox Sports Trade.
And John Rolos is here as well. There's Ramos there
is Yeah, he's getting ready. The bottom of the hour,
John Ramos showed to wrap up your week here on
Fox Sports Radio. No Doug today, So you've got Jonas,
John and myself hanging out. We had Doug Peterson, head
coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, on the show earlier. We'll
(01:33:46):

had Baron Davis on, so I'm all about Threes, Three's Company.
I'm all about that. I could get with Try States,
I can get with the Killer Threes. But it's something
(01:46:21):
about the Power nickname, Like, was there a reason why
they were just Power and all these other ones have
connections to three or basketball? Can you shed any light
on this nickname because it does bother me a little? Well,
I'm sorry that it bothers you. Magnificent coach, team, magnificently coach.
Maybe maybe think of it this way and it will
make you a little more comfortable. Remember in math, when
(01:46:43):
we were kids, we learned and I think you call
him exponents. And here I am embarrassing myself with maps,
which means when we get off, I will have a
message from my father. My father will give me a
message from him saying I've once again messed up my math.
But remember something to the third power or something to
the fifth let. Yeah that's good, that's good. Yeah, I
could get along. That works. And I got a question
(01:47:06):
for which ones didn't make the cut? Is there a
name out there of a team that was thrown around
that didn't make the cut for the Big Three that
you kind of liked? Boy? Um, I can't recall any
off the top of my head, but there were a
couple that I liked. And you know, man, we may
well be having more teams next year. Beaut We have
(01:47:28):
a whole little kind of bucket of names for when
we grow. Is that because of guys wanting into the league?
Is that because of the response that you've gotten throughout
going from city to city? What is the reasoning behind
the expansionible? How about yes, yes, and yes the threefold
(01:47:51):
number one. You're absolutely right, more and more and more
men want in this league, and this year at our
combine on our draft, far more players wanted in then
roster spots available, and that's quite an accomplishment, and it
was something to behold and ice Cube and Jeff Quantin.
It's the co founders and co CEOs of the league
(01:48:12):
are getting called every single week for men who say
we want in, we want in, and their responses, well,
if you're good enough, you can get in. But it's
a competition. The next reason is, of course the business
growth and and that has been tremendous and it's very,
very exciting. And the third reason is we have tremendous
(01:48:33):
opportunities for international growth. When I joined Big Three, I
certainly was well aware of the popularity of three on
three basketball in this country. What I have since and
very quickly learned, is how popular this game is around
the world. And we are being courted like crazy. That's
kind of a double entendre, courted to get it court.
(01:48:56):
We are being quoted in China and Brazil and throughout
the Middle eas East and other parts of the world.
So there's a lot of room for growth. What sold
you on the Big Three The quality of individuals with
whom I'm working was it just the first meeting their energy,
their enthusiasm. What were the conversations like to where you said,
I want to be a part of this. Well, the
(01:49:17):
first conversation was, I don't want to be a part
of this. I don't want to be a part of this.
Go away, leave me alone. I had spent almost thirty
years in the National Football League. I made the decision
to walk away from that. I'd recently joined CBS Sports
as a football analyst and was happy. As the proverbia
little clan. I don't really know that clams are happy,
(01:49:37):
but I was happy. Is that proverbia little clan? And
Ice Cuban. Jeff made a very very compelling pitch. They
are amazing recruiters. And here I am Amy Trash joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio, chairman of the board
for the Big Three. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm Dan Buyer
in for Doug Gottlieb. How different is I guess being
in the front office, if you will love the Big
(01:49:58):
Three compared to what you had to deal with doing
your time in the NFL and with the Raiders, Well,
I'll give you two stark differences in my National Football
League life. I you know, I had one interest the Raiders,
you know, the other thirty one teams not my headache
culture in the business sense, they were. Now, as as
(01:50:21):
the chairman of the board of a league, I have
to try to not pick favorites. I mean, for almost
thirty years, my rooting interests we all know what that was.
Now my rooting interest is the success of the league,
no particular team. And that's a very odd dynamic for
me on game day to realize I don't and can't
and shouldn't have an allegiance with one particular team. The
(01:50:44):
other is this, and this is just spectacular from a
business standpoint. In the NFL, if we wanted to make
a change, whether to a rule or a policy or
a business matter, it went to committee and then committee
and then committee, and the committees had committees who had committees,
and then there were meetings of the committees, and then
it went to a vote of the ownership. Now, if
(01:51:06):
we want to change something, Ice Cube, Jeff quanton As,
Clyde Drexler and I sit down, we bring in the
Board of Directors when appropriate, and we make a change
and it's done and there's not pump team committee meetings.
Amy Trask with us here on Fox Sports Radio, CBS
Sports NFL analysts also the chairman of the board with
the Big Three here on Fox Sports Radio. Aby was there?
(01:51:27):
You mentioned your rooting interest and working and being affiliated
with the Raiders for as many years as you were.
Is there one loss that to this day still breaks
your heart when you think about it? You know, every
loss broke my heart, but you know, to state one
that's I would think fairly obvious. It was our Super
Bowl and I cried myself to sleep that night. We
(01:51:48):
lost the game, and you know, some very difficult circumstances
surrounding the playing of the game with our center and
playing without Barrett Robbins. And you know when I learned
that we would be playing without him, I learned it
that morning. I turned to my husband and told him
what I thought that would do to our game plan.
And I was right, because Tampa's weakness was directly up
(01:52:10):
the middle. And well, anyway, I'm gonna make myself try again. Okay,
I'm sitting here on the radio, and I'm gonna be
crying all over again. At least it's not TV. I mean,
it's not TV. Was there was there any did you
get any sense um following that game because it was
such such lean times for the organization for so long
until recently. Did you get any sense after that that
(01:52:32):
that was going to have the lingering effect that it
did on the Raiders organization as a whole. Well, it
certainly had an effect. Any number of my friends in
the media at the time said to me, you know,
and there's a thing called the Super Bowl hangover, and
you need to be aware of it because teams that
lose a Super Bowl it seems to loom. And you know,
you know, no, no, no, no, it won't happen to us, No, no, no,
(01:52:53):
no no. And there is an element of truth to that.
But something I will share with you by way of
explanation on certainly not to say it's an excuse, but
an explanation. People ask me what happened in those waning
years of our life and the decisions that he made
for the team and not in the long term best
interest to to help the organization be set up for
(01:53:16):
long term success. They seemed very too many people very
shortsighted in my answers. Again, by way of explanation, not excuse.
I would like anyone among us who when we are
much much older and we are confronting our own mortality,
and we know that we have very very few years
(01:53:37):
left to live. Raise our hand if we think we'll
always be looking long term rather than short terms. He
certainly made some decision in those waning years that were
short term, which he believed to be in the best
short term interests, Um And I understand that when you
know you don't have many years left to live, you
don't define long term in the a manner you would
(01:54:00):
define it ten or fifteen or twenty years earlier. And
those decisions hurt. And I understand why they were made.
And I'm going to say again, that's an explanation, it's
not an excuse. He wanted to win, and he wanted
to win before well, obviously to state the obvious, while
he was still with us. So he made decisions he
thought were best, and not all of them were Big
(01:54:22):
Three Championship. Tonight named Brooklyn eight o'clock Eastern time on Fox.
Amy Trask joins us one more on the Raiders. I honestly,
when you started your answer to Jonas's question, I thought
you were going to say tuck rule, but it was
the Super Bowl. What are my thoughts on not to
not to try to bring up these old wounds. But
I thought it was interesting that it wasn't Tuck Rule
because I thought that was the obvious answer. Well, thanks,
(01:54:43):
this is really a memory, so sorry. Had you asked
me for multiple games, I would have said that one
as well. I mean, obviously, and there were others that
broke my heart for differing reasons. But you know, I
don't remember precisely how you asked the question. The Tuck
(01:55:04):
Rule game was infuriating, the super Bowl was just devastating.
The tech ro alone was devastating too, But I guess
I gravitated towards super Bowl because of the way you
phrased the question. But yeah, that's another happy little bit.
So sorry, Amy Trask. Probably joining us for the last time.
You'll never want to talk to us again. But no
(01:55:25):
big things tonight. What about the job Nancy Lieberman has
done with that that power team this season Coach of
the Year in the league. Just an amazing story with
what she's done. How has she been able to do
I guess be so successful with this power team because
she's a hell of a coach and she is watching
game tape and having her team watch tape, and she
(01:55:45):
is I mean, we've had Nancy miked up, as those
of you with Fox. No, we've had Nancy miked up
on some of our telecasts, and listening to her coach
is an absolute thrill And the thing that excited me
the most when we brought Nancy on. I was in
a meeting with ice Cube, the Jeff Quantin Its and
Clyde Drexler, and I said, we and and the reason
for those of your listeners who don't know, we were
(01:56:06):
down a coach because Clyde had been a coach and
we named him commissioner, so now we needed a coach.
And I said, how about Nancy Lieberman. Not one of
those men, not ice Cube, not Jeff Quantin, It's not
Clyde Drexler, and oh, by the way, not one of
the men on power with whom Clyde ran Nancy's name
up the proverbial flagpole, raised gender as an issue. Not
(01:56:31):
one of those men even considered her gender. Nancy is
not a woman coach. Nancy is not a female coach.
Nancy's a coach. That's the way we knew her. And
oh yeah, by the way, coach of the year, number
one seed in the playoffs, playing for the championship tonight,
(01:56:51):
and people say to me all the time, Wow, you know, Aim,
it's really really spectacular that the Big Three has hired
you know, we're the first major sports league to hire
a woman as a head coach. And I said, fair enough.
But what's going to be spectacular is when it's no
longer a story. Tonight, Nancy Lieberman and that Power team
(01:57:12):
take on Three's Company, led by Michael Cooper. You'll see
it on Fox eight o'clock Eastern time. Amy, we appreciate
the time. And uh, Hi, thanks so much, thank you
for that. Hi to you, and remember to the third Power,
to the fifth Power, you can get comfortable. And Amy,
sorry about that. That was Dan that had me ask
all those Raiders questions. I fologuys there was his idea.
(01:57:34):
Excuse me. We appreciate it, Amy, thanks a lot, Amy Trask.

thought Kobe Day was April twenty nine. From the floor, Ah,
come on, Dan, I thought Jonas would have come back
with that. Unbelieve it was quick, but a good day
for a Cubs fan because they were tied bottom of
the tent, the lone day game in the Majors today,
going up against the Reds. It was too too bottom
of the tent. David Body at the player comes the

So the Cubs with the best record in the NL,

what's that for over Milwaukee? If I can update the

He says exactly what Suzanne tells him to say. Shut up, John, Yes,
take it all right, Friday, all right, let's do this
(02:00:50):
right could even everybody? We have a Craig show for
you tonight. It's Fat Finger Friday. You ever had a
time hard time singing the text because your fingers too fat?
You pushed too many buttons at once. Lord knows I do. Sorry,
Susanne every day Tyrod Rod Taylor disimplarded his peaky last night,
so I'll bet he has a fat finger today. Remember,
(02:01:12):
if you want to get on the show, just use
those little pork sausages on your hand and tweet us
using the hashtag the John Ramos Show. By the way,
Today's National Parking Garage day. My favorite parking garage is
the one in the l A Mall. They have the
best speed buns. Jonas, what's your favorite parking garage. That's
a tough one. Almost sidekick Ryan is out today, so
I have my friend Robert here with me. Robert, let's
(02:01:33):
get started a little basketball. Let's do it, John, Look,
I thought this was interesting. Did you see Kyrie Irving
was honored at a Native American naming ceremony? Really no,
I didn't see that. Yeah, his new lacoda name is
get this Little Mountain. That's cool. Yeah, but I think
they should have went with disabled list ball. He played baseball.
(02:02:01):
Do you really need to watch the football game to
talk about it on radio? Find out next on the
John Romald Show. Let's do a quick recap here. Huh.
He fat changed people's hands and he offended Native Americans. Hey,
(02:02:29):
before we get to our artists of the night, I
wanna wish happy birthday to King Alexandra the Second of Scotland.
He would have been seven hundred and six nine years old. Alright, Yes,
there you go at fat figure, fat Finger Friday. It's
meat loaf. You know, he's a distant relative the King
of Scotland that John just named his birthday King Alexander
(02:02:54):
the see not at all. Hey, don't forget. Big Meat
will join me here up on stage either on for
an in depth inde of view where I planed asking
him what's the thing that you won't do for love? Also,
we have a general Roberto exclusive, something you won't hear
on any of the show in the country radio TVs.
Here on any blog, Doug Peterson will stop by to
(02:03:18):
talk about an exclusive that right in the house. Sports fans,
it's time for you got it? Yes, fans, give meeting
that school little week. Here's the place of the week
(02:04:00):
is what's your play of the week? Oh? How dumb
do you have to beat a book a vacation in
the middle of a hurricane? Find out next on the
Growl Show by Champion Flights by another, let's hear it
(02:04:24):
from Meat Loaf. I will do anything for a coke.
I know everyone on social media is going crazy right
now for the Loaf anyway, don't forget to stick around
his hit depth interview with me later on to the show.
Also coming up, I know you've been waiting on this
and on her Fat Finger Friday, I will give you
(02:04:45):
my top ten NFC West left guards to come out
of the Whack Conference in the early two thousand's. Trust me,
there's some stars there. But right now, just for all
you degenerate gamblers, it's no matter what. If you're ready
(02:05:07):
to win, it's time to call Johnny. Yes, yeah, all
I do is win everybody. Hey, the Seahawks are in
town to play the Vikings. Minnesota has six sacks the
last weekends to Jags. They just signed the star safety
George That defense is tough. Having said that, I do
(02:05:30):
love the oceans and things that fly, give me the
Seahawks plus three. That makes sense. That's why you're typing
all caps. This doesn't happen, and half the Steelers will
we Who's do the Titans tomorrow? Pittsburgh is averaging over
three hundred and fifty yards per game during the preseason.
The Titans can't stop a nosebleed. But I still don't
know what the three diamond thing means on the Steelers helmet.
(02:05:50):
So give me Tennessee. In the under the Bengals will
be traveling to Buffalo to pay to play the Bills.
Josh Allen has locked great, looked great so far. He's
throwing two touchdown passes no interceptions. He looks like the
real deal everybody. However, my son lucas eight frosted flakes
this morning for breakfast. I think that's a sign at
the Bengals plus one and a half A right good.
(02:06:14):
That's all the time we have for tonight. A big
thanks to everyone who tweeted using hashtag the John Almas Show.
Also thanks to Meet Loaf and his Fat Fingers for
being tonight's special musical guests. Sorry, Meat, we'll have to
get to you next time. And Robert, I'll catch you
and I'll catch you again on your backside. Interesting, Yes Friday,
(02:06:34):
Happy Friday, everybody. When when you when, One of the
things that I learned earlier in my broadcasting career is
when you type, you type in all caps because sometimes
when we have capitalist capitalized letters a lower case letters,
you don't know what's an iron l. Just like when
John faced the daunting task of pronouncing George ilokas name,
where he just left it as George because the eye
(02:06:56):
was capitalized in the end was lowercase, so I don't
know John thought it was George Loca or George. He
just went options see and didn't say it. Yeah. Dan
always told me that. By the way, the hashtag John
the John Ramos Show. Dan always told me that, UM
(02:07:17):
like doing updates because he was really good at him
and I was average to below average at best. That listen,
you got to write the stuff down because you never know.
You can't trust the computers here. And I'm thinking, I
don't even worry about it. Dance. It's all capitals, just
like Dan said. And then this one time I was like, nad,
I got this, and then the screen refreshed in the
middle of the update and I started with uh and
with a three shot lead. It's John's daily Oh man,
(02:07:43):
hey is meat Loaf would say today's show two out
of three and bad? So two out of the three
segments weren't bad. That was that was really good, John.
Thank you. Happy Friday, everybody, Happy Friday, John, Happy Friday.
Hurricane go that way, just keep going out stop by
the way, Can we talk about by come on? Can
(02:08:04):
we talk about the scam the Weather Channel just try
to pull Dan and I noticed it during one of
the breaks. The Weather Channel has Jim Cantori out there
Waikiki Beach, and Jim Cantori happens to be standing in
front of a tree branch that's fallen on the ground,
and you think, man, that's awful. Yet Jim Cantori is
wearing a T shirt, a hat, a hat that's not
(02:08:25):
being blown off his head, and he's wearing pants, thank god.
And then behind him you've got a bunch of little
kids in the water sand castles. They made it seem
like it's the scene out of Jaws where everybody's running
on the shore because some kids got bit in half.
But were we talking about here? It's like it's this
is a hurricane or not a hurricane? Man? And the
Weather Channel, why not spice it up for a little
(02:08:47):
bit more drama? But I would all right, um. By
the way, if you would like to provide John Ramos
with some show content, ideas or some feedback as to
what you thought of today's John Ramo show, just tweet
him at j S Ramo zero six and what's the
hashtag again, John Ramos? The John Ramos Show coming out
(02:09:08):
next here on fs R. There are pressing needs in
the world of sports. We have got him for you
don't go anywhere. That's next. Yeah, this is the Doug
Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Yes, it is no
(02:09:31):
Doug today. You got me Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox, and
John Ramos hanging out instead. And right now Steve de
Sager hangs out with us as well. Steve gives us
the latest of what is happening in the world of sports.
Hello Steve, Hello. Potentially good news for Tiger Woods despite
a poor finished second round another seventy one for him
(02:09:53):
today at the Northern Trust in New Jersey. It looks
like he will barely make the cut, which is currently
even par, which is currently where it's tiger Wood sits.
I do have one question for you to golf experts.
We uh, we have a cut line here at this tournament,
and yet don't the top one hundred advanced to the
next round of playoffs in Boston one hundred in the rankings.
(02:10:13):
So like rankings will adjust with the results of this tournament.
So tiger Woods finishing say seventie place this weekend and
not making the cut, it all depends on where he
is in the in the FedEx Cup standings. Not in
the top one hundred of this tournament, okay, but that
can only kill him by not golfing Saturday and Sunday. Yeah,
I mean you would you like, if you're the number
(02:10:35):
one golfer and you don't make the cut, you're going
to play the next week because you had a pre
existing great ranking. Could I answer one of these questions? Please,
expert to the golf expert Jonas, please uh the Tiger
Woods making the cut but seventy place? Don't the top
one hundred advanced for next week? Totally Baseball tonight at Anaheim,
(02:10:58):
it's the Angels will be sting defending champion Houston. That
means Justin Verlander is back in southern California. He had
lunch today at the Beverly Hills Hotel and tweeted a
photo of his receipt. Here it is Cranberry juice ten dollars,
pancakes thirty dollars, salad forty two and it also lists
miscellaneous Dodger Killer one million dollar charge. That is a
(02:11:22):
fact they put that on the receipts. He had a
good time with it, tweeted the photo. No, he says,
l A has not forgotten about that World Series. Do
you think he was a jerk to the waiter like
he was a jerk to me at the All Star
Gamely finally, tell the story Dan, I showed up at
the All Star Game because my luggage was lost, our
(02:11:42):
plane was delayed. We showed up about two hours before
the home run derby, had no player availabilities leading up
to that. I had to acquire sound for the next
day's All Star Games, so the only time to do
that was after the home run derby, and so I
was running around. Two different players saw Justin Verlander sitting there,
asked him a couple of questions about because the Tigers
were the World Series and home field advantage, and after
(02:12:04):
the second or third question, he responded, boy, these are
real original questions. Yeah, and didn't he say to you?
Because it took a couple of times to try and
get ahold of him, He said, Wow, you really wanted
this interview, didn't you. Um, No, that wasn't me. But
that was was that? Did that happened to? No? That
was it happened with somebody? And I thought it was Verlander? O.
(02:12:25):
That was that was? Oh gosh, Grady size More Yes,
All Star Game, Yes, but he was cool. He was
he was cool. But but yeah, Verlander was by your
killer guys from Cleveland whose name right with Grady? In
Sunday night to Sports Radio. We have an item from
the Little League World Series is that is concluding shortly
(02:12:48):
and after two losses, Australia is out. Nonetheless, every parents
of an Australian Little leaguer actually made the trip flight
from Brisbane to l A l A to New York,
three hour bus ride to Williams Sport to watch their
little guys play and lose a couple of times. Darren
ravel says, that's a sixteen thousand charge per family. That
(02:13:11):
doesn't include all the money and travel and entry fees
in Australia. Just qualifying to be the representative to go
to Williamsport, man, I mean it's a long travel. It
would take a whole like good day to get there.
That is outstanding. Quickly On Car brings you today's show
(02:13:32):
car shopping Cabby confusing with terms like dealer price, list, price,
and invoics. True Car shows you what other people paid
for the car you want so you could recognize a
good price. What are you ready to buy a new
or used car? Visit True Car to enjoy a more
confident car buying experience. Take us home, Steve with one more?
Do we have time for one more? Okay? The French
Open has put out a new dress code specifically aimed
(02:13:55):
at Serena Williams, who was wearing what was called a
black cat suit at this Summer's Term tournament. They say
quote that will no longer be accepted. One must respect
the game and the place. We've gone too far. Oh well,
we had to put in a dress code when John
Ramo stopped wearing pants to come out there and press
the press. By the way, Dan and I we do
(02:14:18):
weekends here at Fox Sports Radio, strict dress code. We
have to dress like slobs. That is the only way
to go. You got some big shows this weekend. Huge.
I've got the Fantasy Football Special with Mike harmon Sunday morning,
So tune in nine o'clock Eastern time right here on
Fox Sports Radio. Have a great weekend, guys,
