Doug discusses the Raiders getting blown out by the Rams and why fans should be mad at QB Derek Carr, not Jon Gruden. He also thinks Sam Darnold proved once again that the Browns and Giants will regret passing on him. Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL Network joins the show to breakdown Darnold's regular season debut and Ben Roethlisberger's early season struggles.

(00:28):
Doug gottleib Show, Fox Sports Radio come into you from
the sunny city of Angels. We'll get to football in
a second. Manish Meta from the New York Daily News
will join us. We'll talk about Sam Donald's big day
after a really awkward beginning for the j E. T
S Jets. Jets Jets. But uh, I just I want

(00:53):
to start with with this in remembrance of seventeen years
ago September eleven, because there are two parts to it
which do in fact relate to sports. The first is
I was filling in. I was filling in the Sports
Animal in Oklahoma City. Um, this is seventeen years ago,
filling in for a guy named Jim Traber who still

(01:15):
does afternoon drive there. Traber, at the time was the
color analyst for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and so there'd be
a substantial number of shows late in the summer and
the early fall which he wouldn't be able to do,
and I would fill in for him. I had played
my first year of professional basketball overseas, and we had

(01:39):
an apartment in still Water, Oklahoma, And I remember getting
in my car and I was in my father in
laws like ford truck like we had when when we
went to Russia, we sold our cars, and I think
we had one car when I got back, and I
remember I used my father in law. He had like
a backup forward pick up truck and all it had

(02:01):
was like a cassette deck and a radio. And it's
like an hour drive from still Water to northwest Oklahoma
City where the radio station was located, and I turned
it on. I turned on the radio and I thought
it was like a remake of War of the World,
and so I had no interest in it, and I

(02:22):
turned it off and I was kind of lost in
thought on the way down to Oklahoma City. When I
got there, I realized and turning on sports radio, that
it wasn't actually War of the World's it was actually
War on our turf went upstairs and right when I
got upstairs into the kind of the newsroom, that's when

(02:45):
the first tower fell. And ah it it for obviously
forever shook kind of the foundation underneath me. Um in
a figurative sense, and um, if you're not old enough
to remember, here's my memory. I was scared. Everyone was scared.

(03:10):
We had to go on the radio every fifteen minutes
or so, and while we were running ABC News is
feed and remind people to stay calm that we'd be
back and have local programming when we thought it was necessary.
And we urged local owners of gas stations not to
gouge the prices because the price of gas went from

(03:31):
like dollar fifty a gallon to like seven bucks eight
bucks agoun because we didn't know, no one knew what
was next, no one knew it was next. I remember
that weekend where there were no sports, no sports that
we can everything was canceled. And I was at my
in laws house in drum Right, Oklahoma, and uh, we

(03:52):
don't have anything to do except talk and kind of
be scared and wonder if, like if this is it
going to war? And uh, I got a chance to
hang out my in laws A bunch of my wife
a bunch, and it was life without sports. Didn't feel
like America, didn't feel like who we are. Right, There's

(04:16):
a lot of things that make us who we are.
And look, some cultures don't understand how important sports are
as an aside and a celebration of all that we have,
not just in the diversity, but the freedom to disconnect
from reality and cheer for a football team. You fast

(04:37):
forward to the very next weekend. I went to the
Oklahoma Kansas State game and it was the biggest flag
I've ever seen. And then I flew to ESPN and
I guest hosted for Todd right all night. And that Sunday,
so a week and a couple of days removed, was
when Tom Brady first got inserted because Drew bled so

(04:59):
who joined us? Yeah, yesterday got hit against the Jets
and knocked out of the game. Like all of these things,
but here's my strongest memory. In addition to the terror
and fear that I and I think most of America felt,
I remember getting onto a plane in Oaklahand City and

(05:20):
there's only three people on my Delta flight that stopped
in Cincinnati. Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Airport used to be a hub.
There are only three people. And I remember landing in
that airport. This is like a week later, and there
was you know, police dogs everywhere and very few passengers.
But I remember for that short period of time we
were actually really really nice to each other. What we

(05:42):
we when we went through T s A and they
were checking every part of our body for anything that
could possibly do anything wrong to someone else on the
plane or to a plane. You didn't take offense to it.
You knew it was for safety and for our country,
because another attack would be just devastating to our pride,

(06:04):
to our country's ego, to our morale. And so look,
I can give you a bunch of different takeaways and
talk about the real heroes that have stuff that I'm
not even made of. Right, the the the ability for
a first responder to run into a burning building with
the only thing in mind, how many people can I save,

(06:25):
not even concerned with my own well being? Like that,
that's the stuff that true heroes are in fact made up.
Even though I don't have the ability to truly relate
that to you, I can tell you that, being alive
seventeen years ago, I was scared. I did, in fact
then and believe now we still are the best place

(06:47):
on earth to live. And I remember distinctly how nice
we were to each other, how we looked each other
in the eye. When we didn't have sports on TV,
we had meaningful conversations about it could be next after death.
Why we enjoy living where we live, the freedoms that
are special to us, But more than anything, the things

(07:09):
that things on a daily basis, somebody's swooping in and
taking your parking spot, somebody accidentally bumping into you when
you're walking down the sidewalk, those things didn't matter as much.
Take that with you for for the day. All right,
let's get to sports. Stug got the show here on
Fox Sports Radio. John Gruden's the bad guy because of

(07:30):
last night, right, He, like the six other new coaches,
all lost their inaugural game as a head coach in
the NFL. We saw Matt Patricia, another Patriots assistant, looking
overwhelmed to being a head coach. I'm beginning to think
that Patriots assistants are a lot like Guinness beer. And
if you know this good friend of mine, Dave Revson,

(07:52):
he once lived abroad in Ireland, and the Irish will
tell you that Guinness beer. The further it gets from
the brewery, the worst the beer is. That's what Patriots
assistants tend to be. The further they get from Foxboro,
the worst they get. But John Gruden is the bad
guy because because he trade away Khalil Mack and then

(08:13):
they had no pass rush and they couldn't get to
Jared Goffin. People like say, I told you. No one's
arguing that they wouldn't be demonstratly better defensively with killil Mac.
That's a stupid argument, like, well, they just obviously they
miss clip. Of course they do. No one's arguing that

(08:34):
clil Mack is awesome? Is he ninety million dollars guaranteed
awesome and two first round draft picks awesome? Right, They're
going to get worse defensively when you take one of
the best players in the league off of their team.
So if you're making that argument, congratulations in the short term,
you're gonna win that argument ten times in ten. The

(08:57):
question becomes in the long term, were the Raiders better off?
And by John Gruden's estimation, a guy who has built
a winner in Oakland before, a guy who's been a
part of a of a winner in Tampa and a
guy who's evaluated the NFL for the decade he's been
out of the league. He's betting on yes. But what

(09:18):
you're not what you don't realize, is that Jon Cruden's gamble,
if you will, was because he had Derek Carr under
contract making franchise quarterback money. And the big takeaway from
last night is, you know, I don't know if Derek

(09:39):
Carr has it. It's not that you could have traded
Derek Carr and got two first round draft picks back
in return to take that contract off. It's not that
you didn't think, hey, maybe you could. You know, John Gruden,
like any guy, thinks I can fix him, I can
fix any quarterback. I had four quarterbacks in Tampa, and
I tried to make them all kind of work. But

(10:02):
I'm not surprised that the Raiders didn't have a pass
rush when they trade away Khalil MC for two first
round trafficks and cap flexibility in the long term future.
What I am surprised about is Derek Carr may not
be who he thought he was, the guy of two
years ago. The miracle finishes, the fourth down conversions, all

(10:25):
the upside, all the all the hope that may have
been the exception and the rule might be what we
saw last night, which was panic at times under pressure,
and inability, an inability to step up and make the
big throw, and a couple of just bizarre interceptions. They
were in that game at the half when they were
on schedule and they were on script, when he was

(10:47):
left to his own devices and just had to make
plays he couldn't. Of course, they stunk at pass rush.
They lost one of the best players in the league.
More surprising us the ineffectiveness and inefficiency at the quarterback position,
one that they had chosen to invest in and I've

(11:09):
decided to build their entire team around. Speaking of quarterback,
coming up next, we'll get to um, we'll get to
the preliminary game, the Jets versus the Lions. You want
to start talking about starting off with a thud and
ending with a bang. That's Sam Donald, But that bang

(11:31):
was heard in other parts of the league. Share with
you where that was up coming next? But first, you
know it's not smart. Um, It's not smart to make
the lottery the centerpiece of your retirement. Just like there
are a lot of job sites that make you wait
for the right candidates to apply for your job. Not smart.

Those guys do a great job. So just keep right
here on Fox Sports Radio. Incredible content as we react
to Week one of the Nation Football League and get
you ready for a week to Thursday night games of
course upcoming this Thursday night and a good one. Um.

(13:42):
In addition to that, you got college football and some
of these games being postponed because of the hurricane which
appears to be bearing down on the Carolinas. Uh. I
told you so you know. Now, Look, is there some
confirmation bias in it right, like I leave Sam Donald
was the best quarterback prospect. Sure did I have some

(14:05):
helpful hints and tips from my NFL sources, absolutely, But
there's just a sense around Donald that you get that
he's he's built for this sort of job. He's built
for this sort of job. Just guys. People just believe
in him. He covers weaknesses, he overcomes his own mistakes.

(14:29):
He's got an awe shucks, I don't know everything sort
of personality. But in addition to the Jets fans feeling
like we finally found a guy who's capable of getting
us back to the playoffs and being a consistent, solid
starting quarterback, how do you feel of here? The New

(14:50):
York Giants Like Sakon Barkley is good, he's not a
bad player, but taking se Kwon Barkley at number two
and you could have had a yet starting quarterback. A
passing of the torch. Everyone knew the torch needed to
be passed. Everyone everyone knew, the owner, the Jerry Reese,

(15:14):
the old gentlemanager, the head coach, Ben McAdoo. There's a
lot of things that he was not, but one of
the things he was he was brought in to save
Eli Manning's career, and even he couldn't save Eli Manning's career,
it was time to look for the next guy. He
gotta look for the next guy. And because of fear

(15:38):
of ramification, anyone who had come at Eli Manning in
the past had gotten stomped. That's that's the first family
in football all that. They didn't even want to bench
him this whole They wanted to bench, No, they didn't.
They wanted to use other players when the game was
out of hand in the second half and the season

(15:59):
that was going nowhere with no wide receivers, a limited
offensive line, and yeah, maybe, as Ben mcadoos said, maybe
his bedside manner could have been better, But the truth
is that he was as upfront as any human being
could ever be in the National Football League called you
lie in and said, hey, man, look you're great. We
still think you're great, but we got to see what

(16:20):
else we got on this on this roster. And they
cowered to public pressure after one game of starting Geno Smith.
And the only reason they started Gino Smith was it
was probably the right thing to do. Right, They're trying
to get some value to potentially trade Geno Smith because
Geno is in New York, and Giants fans think that

(16:43):
because he stunk with the Jets, he would stink with them,
And he might have stunk with them anyway, he did
stink with them anyway, not understanding what all was at play.
You watched last night, and you're a Giants fan, you
are sick to your stomach, sick to your stuff, just
like if you're a Bills fan, you gotta be sick

(17:04):
watching Pat mahomes s throw around right good at him,
the year before, good at him. It's not even about
whether or not say Kuan would be good. Will a
great running back ever be as valuable as a great quarterback?
And the answer is no, don't believe me. It's not

(17:27):
just watching the Jets play last night, it's watching the
Packers play the night before. If you have a great quarterback,
you always got a chance. You got a great running back,
you got a great running back. So and you know,
I like, I think if Girly is the best guy
in the league, he's important. But what's more important is

(17:50):
can Jared Golf play? So I if I'm Cleveland, I'm
sick to my stomach. Not because Baker Mayfield is not
good that everyone's told you Donald's better, and Donald has
that ability to to compartmentalize that. You have to have
Rosa pick his first play. Imagine if you throw a

(18:11):
pick your first play Monday night football. You're the youngest
quarterback to start in NFL history, and you roll out,
you run the play that was called, You hold on
a little bit too long, you throw it across your body,
and they don't just pick it off. They run back
and score six on you here down seven and nothing.
Or you ever batted an eye your first pass from scrimmage, well,

(18:34):
let you do. He dusted himself off. He had himself
an ice ballgame. Do I think he's Jesus and Cleats?
Not yet? But I thought, and I think he's the
best quarterback prospect, and he's built for the type of
situations he would have assumed in Cleveland, or even being
a backup and waiting his chance with the Giants. Instead,

(18:58):
the Jets that made a horrible trade to put themselves
third in the pecking order end up the beneficiary. And
you know what good for the Jets? But is it
the meek shall inherit the earth? The Jets have been
the meek for a long time. Reverberations around the league

(19:18):
because Mahomes looks like he's the real deal, and so
too to Sam Donald, whereas Mitchell Trobinsky once it went
off script, doesn't have it. It doesn't seem to have.
Derek Carr when it went off script, I'm not sure
he has it. You can just tell. Watch the game

(19:41):
closely enough and you can just tell, let's get to
Steve to sacrifice out what else is going on in
the world of sports. Steve what he got well a
lot of football, of course. Panthers tight end Greg Olsen
rebroke his foot. He was on crutches after Sunday's opener.
He's opting not to have surgery on like last year
Carolina tackled Darryl Williams, will have knee surgery. Can we

(20:03):
go back to Olson for a second, So he's not.
He had surgery last year. And how many weeks was
he out? Uh? Nine games? I believe he missed two months.
So by not having surgery, you could go on I
r and missed two months and avoid the surgery and
try and rehab it. And remember last year he called
a game for Fox during that controversially, because you have
production meetings with the opposing teams. Yes, and he was

(20:24):
still an active player essentially. Uh so, Yeah. For now,
he's rehabbing it and trying to avoid surgery. Depressed as
all get out as you might expect because things were
going well and the foot was responding, and here on
opening day for he's on crutches. After the game, Steelers
say quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is dealing with a minor elbow injury.
He may be limited in practice to start the week.

(20:46):
By the way, Carolina tackled Darry Williams will have knee
surgery at a torn mc L in camp. The Eagles
are expected to name Nick Foles is this week's starting
quarterback tomorrow. Monday night football ratings were down slightly for
last night's doubleheader on ESPN, but reportedly they were still
the highest rated TV shows of the night. North Carolina
and NC State have canceled their games for this Saturday
due to the hurricane. NC State was due to host

(21:08):
number fourteen West Virginia. Both Virginia and Virginia Tech are
scheduled for rainy home games this weekend. As he is
South Carolina, Virginia could move it's game to Nashville. That's
one report. Wake Forest Thursday night game has been moved
up two hours to five thirty Eastern time against Boston College.
Georgia Tech running back Kervante Benson out for the year

(21:28):
with a knee injury. He rushed for over a thousand
yards last season in the NHL. Steve Oishman is stepping
down as Tampa Bay general manager. And there is a
double header started in Philadelphia after last night's rain out
national scoreless bottom of the first at Philly again the
first of two. Back to you. You know. One of
the things lost in last night's game is, uh, you know,

(21:48):
Todd Bowles has done exceptional job. Of course his first
year there ten wins, Ryan Fitzpatrick's quarterback, and then fitz
holds out last year. Uh see me, the fitz holds out.
Surely they're afterwards. And obviously the Jets were a mess

(22:08):
the following year five and eleven, and last year they
tried to be bad. They were trying to tank. But
it's hard to tell a coach who's fighting for his
job you need to tank five games, five wins with
that talent group. And kind of interesting here is Sheldon
Richardson gone Mohammed Wilkerson gone, and everybody's I've heard this

(22:33):
narrative of you know, you don't trade Khalil Mack or
get rid of Khalil Mack in his prime. Okay, other
teams have in an effort to rebuild. You know, Dolphins
did it. You know, Titans aren't w world beaters, but

(22:53):
they've done it. Of course. You know, the Newham Patriots
did it with Jamie Collins. They've done several times. So
Richard Seymour was jettison to the Raiders. So I'm I
think it's it's really foolish to point out and just
sit there and go like in the immediacy, it wasn't
a it's not a trade player for player, right. This
isn't like watching the Calves against the Celtics the second

(23:16):
week of the season going like, hey, Cavs got the better, Like,
it's not you traded a player for cap space and
two first round picks. Of course you're not going to
be better in terms of personnel on the football field.
An idiot could tell you that. But we repeat this
moronic narrative that somehow like Gruden didn't know they would

(23:38):
be immediately worse having trade trade him away like Yeah,
I get it. He wasn't showing up unless we showed
him the money, and we didn't have the money to
nor did we want to spend that sort of money
on a player anyway. Bowls winning five games last year
showed that he could get the guys to fight, and

(24:01):
the way in which they played yesterday with a patchwork
offensive line, no name wide receivers, a tight end that
you you couldn't pick out of a lineup, and a
defense that played their tails off. It should be pointed
out that when Todd Bowles was in Arizona as their

(24:22):
defensive coordinator, he was the assistant coach of the year.
Look at the defense of the Cardinals the second he
got there to the second he left. Hey, guys terrific
And sure you've got to figure out about being a
head coach and they've had to kind of work on

(24:43):
the fly. I mean, think about who his quarterbacks have been,
Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick, right, and Ryan Fitzpatrick only
filled in for Geno Smith because Gino got hurt. And
the only reason that he got hurt was because he
got punched by another teammate because he no showed for

(25:04):
his charity event that happened. He won ten games with Fits,
then Fits held out because he wanted crazy starting quarterback money.
They met him in the middle and Ryan Fitzpatrick. The
air was let out of the balloon. They came back
down to earth. Then last year they tanked and actually
won two to three times more games than anybody thought
possible with that talent. I think the winner last night

(25:30):
was Todd Bowles, Like, damn, that guy can coach. Yeah,
he can't coach. Whereas McDermott up in It's always fascinating
to me. Sean McDermot is up in Buffalo, Like that
was the guy who took over for Jim Jim Johnson
in Philadelphia as their defensive coordinator when Jim Johnson got
sick and he was awful, and then he was good

(25:52):
for a year in Carolina when they went to a
Super Bowl, and bad the next year, and he gets
the Buffalo job. Dude, I everyone's talking about the and
rightfully so the Giant screwed up, the Brown screwed up.
The Jets have their quarterback. They might also have their
head coach. But he's meta knows a lot more about
this than I do. That's because he covers the Jets

(26:14):
and has done so for living for years. He worked
for The New York Daily News, joining us on the
Doug gat Lip Show on Fox Sports Radio. What was
your honest reaction when Donald rolls out to his right,
throws across his body, and throws a touchdown pass for
the for the Lions on his first first pass? Wow?
Well I didn't expect that. Yeah, I would have been surprised, frankly,

(26:35):
Doug if if he caved and kind of crumbled after
that moment. He clearly did not look like the Sam
Donald that I saw over the last several months, and
you can kind of tell even in real time that
he didn't want to throw that pass. Something looked a
little bit off. Afterwards, he did admit that he was
nervous prior to that play, which is understandable, you know,

(26:56):
twenty one year old kid. But I didn't think, you know,
at that moment at you know, things were going can
continue to go south and he was gonna fall apart.
That's just not who he is. It's not what I've seen.
And he clearly showed for the remainder of the game
that he kind of returned to that poison guy that
we've seen for the last four months. Yeah, I mean

(27:16):
pretty impressive concerning the line he's working behind the expectations
of them. Um, what have they done to allow him
to be so so, so comfortable so early. Well, look,
a lot of that is him, of course, that's his makeup,
and a lot of that is Jeremy Bates. And this
is a guy who has not been a play caller
since two thousand and ten when he was in Seattle

(27:39):
for a year, and uh, he put him in some
interesting situations. I think the situations that Bates put Donald
in really proves how much he trusts the guy. Even
based off of that first play call, it would have
been much easier to hand the ball off the Baal
pal and kind of let his young quarterback settle in.
But you know, they went for it. They have an
aggressive mindset it. They have a trust and a belief

(28:01):
in each other, and I think for the long haul
that's certainly going to serve not only each of them
well but the team as well. So the fact that
you've got a creative play caller that Jeremy Bates doesn't.
You know, he's not a household name to a lot
of people, but he does come from that Mike Shanahan school.
Those guys are typically very creative and typically very aggressive,
and I think you'll see a lot of the playbook

(28:23):
even open up more as Sam Donald gets more games
under his belt, more experience under his belt. But even
less the last night, when he looked at the different
personnel groupings, the different play calls that he designed for Donald,
it really looked like he was designing play calls for
a veteran quarterback. And that's only because Sam Donald has
really comported himself in so many ways like a guy

(28:43):
who is not a rookie. The Detroit Lions, I mean, look,
you get that kind of shot in the arm of
getting to pick six, you feel good about yourself. But
they can never get their offense going. They ran for
thirty nine yards, only run at thirty nine times. Obviously
some of that is being behind um and then even
more troubling is Matt Stafford's four interceptions. Um, How how

(29:05):
the Jets been able to do this? I mentioned before
you joined us that you know, uh, Richardson gone, Wilkerson gone,
like some of those big name guys, obviously some of
the some of the older players as well. But this
has been a team that's more preparing for next year.
How's Todd Bowl has been able to rebuild this defense
and make them so effective last night? So younger, they're faster,

(29:26):
more athletic. He saw a much more aggressive, like free
flowing type of defense than you had in the first
three years under Balls. And part of that was because
you had some older players on that defense. So uh.
And the other part actually is their preparedness. To be
quite honest with you, and I know that, Look it's
week one, you have an extended amount of time to

(29:46):
prepare for your week one a point opponent. But everything
that I gathered after the game and today is that
these guys really want to see. These guys, I mean,
the individual defensive players really were honed into what Matthew
Stafford and Jim Bob Cooder were doing on that offense.
And look, if you have a lot of guys who
are putting in the time to prepare, and you hear

(30:07):
that across the league, well, we put in a lot
of time. Most of the time. That's a lot of talk.
But if you really do put the time and effort
into prepare and study and communicate on game day, you
can have a successful defense. I would say more than
half of the breakdowns in the NFL on defense, it's
not because of a lack of talent. It's probably because
of a lack of communication or a miscommunication, busted assignments.

(30:29):
You hear that all the time from coaches. And what
happened last night was that if somebody saw something they
recognized pre snap, they were not afraid afraid to share
that information. And it seems like a simple concept, but
you'd be surprised how often that does not happen across
the league. Uh. That in that ultimately results in big
plays by the offense. So you know, if they continue
to prepare this way, they've got enough athletic players. Maybe

(30:51):
not the Moe Wilkerson's in his heyday, Sheldon Richardson's plays
of players like that, but they've got enough good players
and quality players, uh and vast athletic players to be
a really good defense. Not an elite defense, I would say,
but you know, to be a top half, perhaps top
ten defense. They knew the hand signals, didn't they. They
knew some of the the the line of scrimmage audibles,

(31:11):
didn't they. Well, look, you know, Todd Bolz was asked
about that about a half hour ago, and maybe that
was a little bit overblown. I think it was more
about formation recognition and the lack of disguise on Detroit's end.
A lot of the stuff they ran yesterday was very
similar to what the Jet saw on film from last season.
And if you're not gonna change things up and throw

(31:32):
new wrinkles at a defensive coordinator like Todd Bowls and
Casey Rogers, you're probably gonna get beat because you got
a fool him somehow. And evidently the stuff that Matt
Stafford was rolling out yesterday was very similar, if not
exactly the same, to what they did a year ago.
How much credit should we give Josh McCown, Well, he

(31:54):
deserved a lot of credit. You know, it's tough to
define exactly know what his act is, but it's been
significant in that he has been a sounding board for
Sam Donald. He has helped out Sam Donald coaching points
on the field, you know, how to handle things off
the field. I think he's an invaluable resource for Donald

(32:15):
this year. Uh, you know, I think Donald's talent ultimately, again,
Doug is going to carry the day, but it certainly
helps having a guy like uh, having guy like Josh McCown.
He not only helps Donald, he really does help everybody
on this team offense, defense, young old Uh. He's a
player coach for lack of a better phrase. And and
he could not uh, Sam Donald, I mean, could not

(32:36):
have picked a better guy to be in that quarterback
room with him. And there's a lot of things, a
lot of intricacies during the course of the week that
get hashed out and and again to have a veteran,
reliable presence there who has been through everything. This guy
has been, you know, on whatever, a million teams. I
can't even remember how many over fifteen sixteen years. I mean,
it's extremely important. Uh, I don't want to discount that,

(32:58):
very very important. Ultimately, however, Sam Donald is going to
be Sam Donald because of his town and his ability.
Great stuff. Miniche met from the New York Day of

Golden Tate's gonna join us later on the show? Is
that correct? Good? Daniel Jeremiah joins us next hour from
the NFL Network. Also, he calls Charger Games what went
wrong for the Olsen will get his impression on Pat

(34:02):
Mahomes having watched him in person. First, let's get to
a game. This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Before we get to the game, just real quick, Steve
to say I see my guy Danny canell together at
it again, and I like DK. But uh yeah, why
don't they wait longer before canceling these weekend college football games?

(34:44):
I think it's what he tweeted. Yeah, which, look, this
goes back to last year when they canceled a game
the University of Florida Think against l s U and
it became all of that mess. There was a bunch
of different computers last year that put the hurricane in
a bunch of different directions, right, And I I am uh,
I am not a meteorologist, nor do I play one

(35:07):
on radio, nor did I stay to Holiday expressed last night.
But um, every computer model has this one hitting somewhere
between Charleston and Cape Hatteras a fair amount of college
football in those areas this weekend. Well, I mean like,
it's not like there's a computer model that hasn't missing.
All of them had of it hitting land. So like, look,

(35:27):
if we're on Tuesday and we can cancel, you get
ahead of it. Why not you can always play another week.
That's a little different than the computer models that had
the Bears winning by third quarter on Sunday night. Yes, yes,
they're very much different. Yes, I like that. I like
the computer models go ahead, which brings us John to
our game. We had, as you mentioned, an O N

(35:48):
seven record with the new NFL coaches this past weekend.
One of those games was the Bears gagging the twenty
point lead third quarter and losing at the end at
Green Bay. Matt Naggie was not alone. Can you love it? Host?
And you're implying that our producer is going negatively in
this segment? Can you rank the worst coaching performance? Give
me the top three worst of the weekend, including say,

(36:10):
John Gruden's team, whatever that was in the second half
last night, or the Lions not exactly a great third quarter,
Cardinals had an awful second quarter. It's a list. Titans, Colts,
and Giants also had new coaches go three to top
three top three worst of the weekend. Um Among the
new coach I'll go with Gruden at three one because

(36:31):
I didn't think the Raiders were good to begin with,
but the fact is in the second half they got
completely undressed, embarrassed by the by the adjustments I thought
the Rams made. UM, I'll do Steve Wilkes at two. Arizona.
That's Arizona. They looked awful. They just looked awful. They
didn't look like they had a plan at all. And

(36:53):
then I'll do the lines with Matt Patricia at home
to get beaten seventeen into the New York Jets, Like
who the last two games? You go back when he
was defensive coordinator for the Patriots. He got a job
with a team that allowed more yardage than anybody else
in the league, and one that that allowed what six

(37:16):
yards of offense to the Eagles and their backup quarterback. Like, yeah,
I'm not really sure the Matt Patricia thing is gonna work.
You mentioned Matt Patricia odd that the Patriots assistant is
getting the signal stolen from him. I love it onto
the most. Yes, a lot of smare set reference right.
The most disappointing quarterback performances of the weekend A top

(37:39):
five worst among Nathan Peterman, Derek Carr, Last Night, Matt Ryan,
and the Thursday opener to Rod Taylor in the tie
I'll do look, I'll do Roethlisberger one. The only thing
that saves Roethlisberger from being an outright he could be
a two is that they played outdoors in bad weather. Right,
but Roth's bodder five turnovers, bad Stafford the second most disappointing.

(38:04):
And then I'll put I'll put Derek Carr not top five. No,
because I knew Nathan Peterman sucked. Most people knew Nathan,
So not disappointing therefrom No, Uh, Matt Ryan wasn't good.
We'll put him at four, and I'll put I'll put
Deshaun Watson at five. He was inaccurate. He didn't he

(38:25):
didn't play great by his own estimation, didn't play well.
So um five Watson four, Ryan three, Derek card To
met Stafford one, Ben Roethlsberger. Roethlisberger. Most disappointing of your weekend. Well,
some good quarterback play, some from unexpected areas. So rank
the most impressive quarterback performance. Give me a top three

(38:46):
for the weekend. You mentioned Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers Sunday night,
maybe Sam Donald last night Joe Flacco had a blowout win. Uh,
Ryan Fitzpatrick. Certainly with that duel, I'm gonna put Ryan
Fitzpatrick in one because he's Ryan fitz Magic. I mean,
he was unbelievable. Not just the fact that he had
seventy completion, four touchdowns, down receptions point one QBR, but

(39:10):
his average completion was fourteen yards. It was the opposite
of what he normally does. It was over four hundred
yards passing with only twenty eight attempts. So that there
there's that um and then i will put two, I'll
put Aaron Rodgers coming back off the knee, and three
I'll put I'll put Pat Mahomes. Pat Mahomes was as
good as advertise. Pat Mahomes. I know you're gonna talk

(39:33):
to Daniels chair my next hour, who was at the
Charger game as well. But Mahomes had one play where
he rolled out and you think he'll just throw it
to the bench. He flicked it forty yards down. Crazy arm.
That arm that we saw in pre it is just crazy.
And finally some of the impressive team performances. Can you
give me your top five teams from Week one of
the NFL? Number five the Eagles. The only reason they're

(39:54):
so low is because Nick Foles is still their quarterback.
Number four is the Ravens. Uh think calling our other
the number two. It's hard because they played the Bills,
who are basically a high school team in comparison. Ouch
Number three is the Pats, mostly because they have Tom
Brady and Bill Belichick. Number two is the Rams really
good in the second half and they choke off the
rust of not playing the preseason. The number one is

(40:14):
the Vikings. I think the Vikings talent wise are at
the same level, maybe even a slightly higher level than
the Rams. They're definitely better at quarterback than the Rams are.
This is game time on the Duck Gottlieb Show, Bryant Music.
What he got? Can I share with you the most
impressive stat, maybe shocking stat from Week one in the NFL? Yeah,

(40:39):
Drew Brees threw the ball forty five times and had
an eighty two completion percentage and they lost. Is that
not remarkable? I mean, like because you normally when the
average was the average yards, I mean he had nine
and three quarters nine point seven six, So not like
he's totally dinking and dunking me, and that's pretty significant.

(41:01):
Usually think things that are more like in the six
or seven yards an attempt range is more You're gonna
be a little bit critical. But the idea that he
threw the ball forty five times and still completed over them,
it's quite shocking. And the staff that we had a
seven hour NFL game at Miami yeah, you know, I'm
doing an NFL sideline game in Miami. I love the

(41:22):
fact that Miami completely redid their stadium and they're like,
you guys want to put a roof on it, Like, nah,
just on the corners, just on the side. Does it
rain that much in Miami? Like not really? On the
other hand, like, look, I actually like I actually like
having real grass and rain, Like I think that's kind
of football. But yeah, lightning will kind of ruled the day.

(41:44):
Mother Nature flex flex her muscles. Jerry Jones is realizing

(42:29):
to you from the City of Angels on a September eleven,
sevent anniversary of September eleven. What do you think Ramos
Ramas were about the same age? I think you're a
little bit older than I am, um, But of the
transcendent moments in your life in your lifetime, I'm gonna

(42:54):
go with when the when the Challenger blew up? Remember
when the Challenger exploded? Um? I don't think I remember
where I was when the Berlin Wall came down, but
I remember where I was obviously all of nine eleven,
even though I was seventeen years ago. Trying to think
there's any other probably frankly when Obama was elected as well,

(43:15):
though that'd probably the other one. Those would be the
three most transcendent moments um in in my lifetime. Music?
Where were you music? You're obviously much younger, you were
at eleven at the time. Yes, what was the experience
like for you as an eleven year old? I just

(43:37):
remember like waking up to go to school, um, and
not fully understanding everything that was going on and trying
to put together and gain proper context on what was
going on, and just looking towards my parents for guidance.
I guess Katrina. I think also was was a big
one for me, just because I remember, Oh, I got

(43:58):
another one kind of one the first day of the
first Iraq War. I was in eighth grade, remember, because
it was that was like the first time I actually
saw war on TV and it was like like a
laser light show and you started realize like, oh, that's
really war, like that that them shooting in our planes.
I don't know. Um, I remember Katrina and watching people
be stranded and having a pickup truck and calling my

(44:21):
friends like should we just go down there? Of course
we did, nothing like a bunch of losers anyway, Ramos,
would you is that the mix of I would agree. Um.
I was in high school with challengers, so that was interesting.
I was already working in radio with nine eleven in
a in a news department outlet, so that was very extensively.

(44:44):
I don't even remember it that much because I was
working constantly that day and it was very very It
kind of takes you away from what's happening and you
kind of have to come home that later that day
and kind of sit down and go, Wow, what just happened.
So yeah, I would agree with you on those two.
I think nine eleven definitely is number one. Though I look, look,
I've said this and thankfully there's not an NFL game

(45:07):
today from this perspective, Look, I I don't think Colin
Kaepernick is the perfect guy to be leading this protest
for a myriad of reasons, and me personally, I would
never kneel before the flag. I understand that you do
have a freedom of expression in this country, and it's
not what I want to get into. But what I
have stated since this started is the one day that

(45:29):
you do not no one should take a knee. And
there's a different level of respect for what the flag,
the anthem, and all that it means. Is September eleven,
and if you're not old enough to know to understand
what that was like, usually you should ask somebody. But
it's also different for you guys because you're on the

(45:49):
West coast, if you're in the Midwest, where I've spent
time in the East Coast, especially if you've been to
Ground zero to the New World Trade Area, there's a
different sort of different sort of feeling. Thankfully, there's a
different sort of feeling in New York because it feels
like they have their quarterback. And I understand it's only

(46:11):
one game in and it was just the Lions. It's
there's a reason there was a coaching change made in Detroit,
and it's it's the Jets. We've seen this from Geno Smith.
We've seen this from Mark Sanchez. We've seen the Star
is Born headlines on New York City papers. But this
one feels different, doesn't It feels different. On the other hand,

(46:35):
you have the Dallas Cowboys. Now, if we want to
track back two years ago, I was telling everyone who
would listened that when Tony Romo comes back, he's the
better option. So some of this is confirmation bias. Some
of it is me telling you something two years ago,

(46:55):
knowing the league, knowing that most people at the time,
most people in the league thought that Romo by fans
was underrated, My fans was underrated, and fans felt like
Jerry Jones overrated him. But Romo took some bad teams
to becoming playoff teams. He really did. And when he

(47:18):
had a viable defense, when he had a defend decent offensive,
when he had a good offensive line. They were a
really good team. When he got hurt, they were not
very good. And then and then Dak Prescott replaced him
two years ago led them to a thirty and three record.
They had a tremendous offensive line, tremendous running back in

(47:39):
Zekeie Elliott, a fairly simple game plan in which he
would look for usually for Dez, occasionally for other guys.
He would have Jason Witten as his safety blanket. Or
he's a really good athlete, really smart guy as far
as tucking the ball and running it. But at some
point you have to evolve into being a franchise quarterback,

(48:01):
making players better than what they are on their own.
And I don't think Dak has that in him. He's fine.
Look at the quarterbacks from that class, and there's a
reason that he was evaluated at the level he was evaluated.
Carson Wentz was the top guy because Carson Wentz is

(48:23):
a dude. He's an m v P. You would have
won the MVP had not gotten hurt. Right, here's Jerry
Jones ruler today on one of five point three the
fan in Dallas. We've got a quarterback that is somewhere
between the one that you saw with the Rams last
night and somewhere and Cam Newton. He can do some

(48:44):
of what both of those guys did. There's an old
laggage in uh looking and evaluating a player. If you've
seen them do it a few times, they can do it.
And if you've seen them do it well. Frankly, all
of our fans have seen Dak do it well. You
know what. There, you know he's got it. So there's
a certain sense of hey, I think he's got more

(49:07):
in him than he's shown in him, and hey, I
think he's got some Cam Newton to him. Now saying
he's like Cam Newton will will sound like the term
of complete respect because Cam Newton has been the m
v P of the league. But Cam Newton is a
little bit of a loaded name. And I don't even
mean the Cam Newton in terms of dancing or um,

(49:29):
you know, any of the distractions that sometimes he can
cause with the things that he can say, like look,
Cam Newton is not crazy accurate. He is better running
um during times of stress, and the offense has to
be simplified because of his lack of intricate accuracy. Like

(49:52):
saying you're like like a kind of a poor man's
Cam Newton would sound like like you could make that
into a cop been like, Hey, Cam Newton's m v P.
Poor Man's Cam Newton is not exactly a slam. On
the other hand, it's not like he said, Look, he's
the top five quarterback in any league anywhere in the world.
He's as good as Brady, he's as good as Rogers,
he's as good as Breeze, he's as good as pick

(50:15):
your guy. But that's not what Jerry Jones said. Jerry
Jones had to be moved over to the side of Hey,
let's let's part ways with Tony Romo. Let's figure out
a way to move on from Romo because we got Dak.
He makes less money and he's gonna be really good.
He just hasn't improved that much, just hasn't presented. I

(50:38):
think he's coming around to where I've always been on deck,
which is when everything is right, he's Daniel Jeremiah was joining.
His next calls him a trailer. Right, He's not a tractor.
He's not gonna pull things along, but when everything's pulling
in the right direction, he goes along quite smoothly. Their
problem becomes they don't have a team full of enough dudes,

(51:04):
so that he has to become a tractor, not a trailer.
Romo is one of those guys that's forever going to
be known as what could have been if he could
have won the playoffs. He didn't hold onto the ball
in Seattle and Parcels was his coach, and Dez didn't
hold onto the ball when he appears to have caught

(51:25):
it in Green Bay. He got hurt two different years
and costs his team a lot. Neither was his fault,
but it did in fact get hurt. It is his body,
so on some level there's, you know, some level of accountability.
I guess duck or get out of the way. But
boy do you miss him because he was a better quarterback,

(51:45):
a better throw of the football, made more magical thing
through guys open, kept plays and drives alive with his
feet within and out of the pocket. And Doc is
yeah somewhere kind of poor man's cam Newton can be inaccurate,
can be a good runner, has a strong enough arm,
is a good enough leader if everything is right, but
right now it ain't right. Daniel Jeremiah joins the show

Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, Let's welcome in. Daniel

(52:50):
Jeremiah works for the NFL Network, also the voice color
voice of the l A Chargers who lost the Kansas
City chiefs. Um well, I want I want to work
ackwards because I don't understand why so many people want
to continue to dig at Jon Gruden. Right like you
might not have liked the decision to trade away Cleil Mac,

(53:10):
but it wasn't a decision that would pay immediate dividends.
Right like you trade away a great pass rusher of question,
pass rush give me crummy, but you did so to
get some cash, face in the future, a bunch cas
space in the future, and to get two first found picks.
My big takeaway that people are missing on is Derek
Carr sucked once they got off script in the second half.
How alarm should I be if I'm a Raiders fan. Well,

(53:33):
let's let's look at both those issues. The first one, Uh,
you're right, we're gonna have to wait a couple of
years before we realize, you know, what they've done with
the money that they have now because of clear Mac
and what they've done with the selections in the draft
that they'll get from this. What what it did to
me is just shows you that John Gruden didn't think
this roster was good enough to win right now, to
win big right now, So you got to sacrifice some

(53:55):
of that, you know, for the short term, and hopefully
it pays off for you there in the long term
and you get the pieces you want. But yeah, I
would be a little bit alarmed by what you saw
from Derek, you know, And that was some of the
things that showed up last night, and we've seen some
of this during his his time in the NFL. Were
the things that bothered me and I bothered a lot
of people when you're watching at Fresno State, which was

(54:15):
you know, you go to that USC game and you
see his eyes dropped against the rush a little bit
and got a little bit skittish. Um when he came
out his first year and was you know, was was
on fire and it looked like he had kind of
pushed past some of those issues. But they show up
every now and then. They definitely showed up in the
second half last night. Um, okay, we go to the
Rams and look, the Rams seemed to figure some stuff

(54:38):
out and make some adjustments. But are you how sure
are you that that that Jared Goff is going to
be good like his Some of his weaknesses got exposed
in big games last year, most notably in the playoffs.
Has he evolved since last season? I think he looked
at that game last night. I don't even what he
ended up throwing forward. Was it two thirty or something

(54:59):
something around two thirty fifty, But they had four four
or five deep shots that he just missed him and
he was a foot away from hitting them, and he
hit half of those. And we're talking about what a
huge game he had, and he's being mentioned as kind
of a m v P type candidate in this offense.
With all they have around him, you know, Gurley is
going to draw the attention each and every week. I

(55:19):
always look at it from the standpoint if you're doing
an advanced scouting report against the Rams, it starts with
Todd Gurley. What are you gonna do? Try and slow
him down? And Jared's going to be the benefactor of that,
because you know you're gonna definitely teams, even as Jared
has shown he can do it, they're going to continue
to put the ball in his hands and try and
do something to slow down Gurley, which is a It's
a good place to be in when you're a quarterback.

(55:40):
Daniel Jeremiah joining us in the Doug Gotlib Show on
Fox Sports Radio. Many people salivating at Sam Donald's first
appearance as a Jets starting quarterback. I kind of feel
like I told you so, And it's not that he's
the world's greatest pastor. It's just like that that game
is a great reason why I think he's gonna be
good for a long time. He's got the arm strength,

(56:02):
he's got the mobility, but he also doesn't get rattled
by throwing a pick six on his first pick. What
was your takeaway watching Sam Donald? What's what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna ask you to be my accountability partner because
it's everything in my power because I got so much
grief when I came through the to the draft process
and I said he I had a hired grade on
Sam Donald to any of the quarterbacks in the last

(56:23):
three years. And I got crushed because of you know,
the turnovers, this, that and the other, and and and
I would go through it. Look, he's he can do
everything you want to do on schedule, off schedule, the turnovers.
Early in the year at USC, they were breaking in
new wide receivers. It got better and better as a
year one along. He carried that team to a Rose
Bowl win over Pins. They carried him to a Pack
twelve title. This is not the same old USC that

(56:45):
was littered with all this talent. Like he's a legit dude.
But I always am I always want to just be careful. Okay,
so far, so good, Doug Gottlie, But you and me
we both look good right now. But I need you
to be my accountability partner so that we just we
do slow down and let's just wait. We'll get to
the year three mark before we accept our congratulations fair enough.
I'm I'm, I'm with you on that one, Daniel Jeremiah

(57:06):
joining us. On the other side, you saw Jim Bob
Cooter's offense like some of the Jets apparently knew the
hand signals, like should Matt Stafford be a little bit
better than he was last night? That was ugly. I
was actually having a talk with the coach in the
league last night about Stafford and I've always appreciated what

(57:26):
he does throwing the football and just the talent that
he has. And I were talking about I said, you know,
when it's all said and done, when his career is over,
well we well we remember Matt Stafford is an all
time great thrower, but overall and average quarterback. You know,
I just wonder if that's what it's gonna end up
coming down to. It feels like it feels that way. Um,
how much of the Giants kicking themselves because Eli just

(57:49):
doesn't have it anymore? And now they watched Donald. Yeah,
I mean that was what I struggle with because you know,
in just terms of a grade, how they great at
their position. A Kwon Barkley for me, carried a little
bit higher grade than Sam Donald. But I've said, look,
if you don't have a quarterback, or you have an
aging quarterback, you have to take the quarterback if it's close,

(58:09):
And it was close with those grades. So to me,
I thought the right decision would have been to take
the twenty one year old quarterback that can take that
position for you know, fifteen to twenty years you can
man that spot. I thought that would have been the move.
But you know, stay Kwon Barkley is a unique talent
and special player. Had had a solid game, you know,
capped off by that big sixty yeard touchdown run. So

(58:30):
I'm not worried about him, you know, being not being
a great player. He will be a great player. It's just, man,
the quarterback positions where it all starts and ends. Okay,
you saw Mahomes in person. I know in talking to
the Chargers people, they were like, he's special. Talking to
people around the league, he's special. And that's hard because
a your Reid has been so good with so many
other quarterbacks. How much of it is Mahomes and how
much of it is reading that coaching staff? Well, I

(58:52):
mean yeah, I Mahomes has got incredible skill. I mean,
he is a very talented thrower. He's a good athlete.
But I on a they think of just being there
in that stadium and watching that game. That game started
and ended with Tyreek Hill. I mean that he was
that was the game. I mean he and Pat had
four touchdown passes. One was on a slant that won
about you know, ten yards that Tyreek took fifty uh

(59:16):
two were on those uh I've been calling at the
Clemson shovel pass and somebody rightfully corrected me on on
social media. It was actually that that was the West
Virginia table and Austin. That's where that whole thing started
with Holgersson. They ran that thing twice. Those are so
those are three of the four touchdowns, two of those
little shovel passes and then the slant. So Tyreek Hill
is the one that scares the tar out of you

(59:36):
when you watched them. But Pat he played well and
when he had opportunities a little fullback down the field,
he laid up a beautiful ball um And that's a
that is a as talented an offensive football team as
I've seen a while. And they are loaded the Chargers.
I mean you got four drop touchdown passes. J J.
Jones drops a punt when it seemed like they still
had a chance to get back in and plus he
returns two kicks he didn't have to return um. But

(01:00:00):
you know, like part of me says, look, I think
they're really good and they'll figure it out. Part of
me says, same old Chargers, which is it. There's too
many good players, uh for them not to have a
good year, you know, and just just having a front
row seat to that, Doug Rivers could have thrown you mentioned,
let's drop past even thrown for darn her six hundred
yards against the Chiefs if they if they catch football.

(01:00:20):
So I thought offensively they matched firepower for firepower with
the Chiefs. Even as good as the Chiefs were, the
Charges offense was right there. Defensively, they were able to
they couldn't corral Tyreek Kill. They were able to slow
down that run game with Kareem Hunt, which they couldn't
do a year ago. So there's some positivity there. They
lost the game on special teams. You give up a
ninety yard punt return for a touchdown and you drop

(01:00:42):
a punt at the two yard line on the doorstep. Uh,
you know that's fourteen points and Hemus fielgal Yeah, and
you missed the field. I mean there's and there's so
much like they had one play and we remember if
he saw it, but where they said that Keenan Allen
had stepped out of bounds and didn't re establish himself,
which I thought was that was kind of a ticky
called that's a big play that gets called back. They
ran the ball and went over almost five yards to

(01:01:05):
carry running the ball with two backs. Eckler at eighty
seven receiving yards. Gordon had over a hundred receiving yards. Uh.
So you know, hey, let's let's just let's let's wait,
let's season unfold a little bit. I will say, Man,
Julie Bosa not having him on that front, you know
you definitely noticed that. Yeah, and he might be out
for a couple of weeks with with that foot. Uh.
Seemed like Deshaun Watson lacked some of the accuracy I

(01:01:29):
thought he had cleaned up last last year. Am I
misremembering who who Deshaun Watson is? Is this who he is?
He's he's not that accurate? Or did he just have
a bad day. Well, it was interesting. I was one
of the tapes I was looking forward to watching, and
when I sat down and studied it, it was okay.
You know, coming off the injury, you expect some rust
there with the time that he's missed. But I wanted

(01:01:50):
to see more than anything else, how how they're going
to send him. You know what, what is the what
is the game plan here? Defensively in New England as
good as anybody in terms of scheme and what they're
gonna do. And Doug, they rushed. I think I counted
three or four times if they rushed five the rest
of the game, they rushed for they had a middle
linebacker waiting for what for Watson you can call him
a spy or if he's just hanging at home, but

(01:02:12):
they had a middle linebacker assigned to him in the
middle of the field. They dropped in coverage. So that's
what they're gonna do there. You know, you blitz him.
He's he is smart, He's gonna get the ball out quick.
He can make that. He can throw slants and fades
all day long on that if you want to blitz him,
and they just didn't do it. They just sat back
in coverage and see if he could throw through windows
and throw the ball accurately down the field. And he

(01:02:33):
struggled a little bit. Yea, how do you move? Can
move around fine? I mean he wasn't to think about
descon if he's always been a smooth a smooth athlete,
a smooth mover. He's not as explosive as somebody like
Lamar Jackson. Um so you know you weren't gonna see that.
He's not. He's not as explosive as Asmart Zoda. He's
just a real smooth athlete. So I thought he looked
very similar movement wise what we saw last year. Daniel

(01:02:53):
Jeremiah NFL Network joining us in the Doug Gotlip Show.
Jimmy Garoppolo throws some picks. I thought the parts. I again,
I didn't watch the game tape A pards I watched.
It felt like his offensive line was a little overwhelmed,
and he didn't have the weaponry going against Minnesota, who
won faster and better when they play at home and
to really really talented. Am I giving Jimmy Garoppolo too

(01:03:14):
much of a pass? No, And it sounds like a
hot take, but you you even took it from me,
but it's true. I watched that tape. I broke it down.
Jimmy Garoppolo played really well. I don't care what the
stat sheet says, um with what he was up against.
And you gotta remember they had injuries to two guards,
so they had to kick McGlinchey inside the guard on
two of the three picks. You had an issue with

(01:03:34):
McGlinchey there. One he just got cleanly beaaten by Sheldon
Richardson and you got pressure right in his face. Another
one he was kind of laid the pass off a twist,
which you would expect. He'd never played guard before in
his life before this game, so that there was that
he was dealing with. You had a receiver run a
wrong route on the pick six. You had a long
drop pass would have been a fifty plush yards to Kittle,

(01:03:55):
which was on the money. You had Pettis that dropped
a touchdown, and uh, and he was going up against
you know, one of the one or two. It's either
defense number one, defense number two. However you want to
look at it. On the road man, it was it
was not in his environment. He he made some incredible throws,
so he's gonna be just fine. When I popped in
the tape on that, I thought, man, maybe maybe we
all overhyped this guy. Then I watched it and I said,

(01:04:16):
you know, I don't care what the box score says.
He was really good. Ben Roethlisberger. Five turnovers, But part
of me wants to give him a pass because well
there was there was weather and to Rod Taylor didn't
have much pop on his ball because of weather. What
were your thoughts on what happened with Roethlisberger. Well, I
was just sloppy. You know, it was sloppy. He wasn't

(01:04:37):
on the same page. He had the one deep ball. Um,
you know, he just was not at the angle taken
by Antonio Brown. It was just it wasn't what Roethlisberg
was anticipating there. But then just some sloppy play on
the move, being reckless with the football. Um. Now he
wasn't good. Now that that Brown's defense got a chance
to be really good, Miles Garrett, I think the legitimate
defensive player that you're candidate, he's that good. Um. But

(01:04:58):
you know, it's been a couple of years now with
all that he has around him, where you almost left
just a little bit underwhelmed. By Ben I don't take
away from his greatness, but it just it seems like
you're always expecting a little bit more with what he's
got to work with, no question about it, no, no
question about it. Last thing, Ravens looked incredible against the Bills. Bills,
by most people's estimation, worst talent in the league. And look,

(01:05:20):
no one thinks Peterman. Peterman is the guy ultimately and
probably won't be the guy for long. So with that
in mind, am I wrong to get excited about how
the Ravens look? No, you're You're not wrong. I mean
they have they have the formula. You know. One of
the things early in the season, I always like to see,
what's the formula? What what's the formula? How is this
team gonna win games? And the Ravens, you know, having

(01:05:40):
veteran receivers again for Joe Flacco. The issues they've had
developing receivers is well known. But they've hit on so
many veterans and it looked like they hit on all
three of those guys with the way they played, and
Flacco looked comfortable. And they have waves of guys in
the front seven they can throw at you, and they
just overwhelmed Buffalo Daniel Jeremiah. You can hear him called
Chargers Games or listen or or watch him on the

(01:06:01):
NFL Network or listen to the um Move the Sticks podcast.
He and Bucky Brooks do a great job. You can
also see that on the NFL Network. DJ, You're a
busy man. We appreciate you spend some time with us.
Thank alright, you two will that we should get Danager
my i MG plays modern day in high school football.
That you talk about prospects upon prospects of the future.

(01:06:27):
Let's get to Steve A. Seger and figure out what
else is going on. Steve well a lot in college football.
For the schedule, of course, this weekend. North Carolina and
NC State have canceled their football games for this Saturday
due to the hurricane. Virginia has now moved it's game
to Nashville against Ohio. You Wake Forest. Thursday night game
was moved up two hours to five thirty Eastern time
against Boston College. Stanford running back Bryce Love is out

(01:06:49):
this week with an undisclosed injury. Georgia Tech running back
er Vante Benson out for the year with a knee injury.
He rushed for over a thousand yards Last season, Panthers
tight end Greg Olsen rebroke his foot. He was on
crutches after Sunday's opener. He'd had surgery on it last
year and missed two months. Olsen's opting not to have
surgery at this time. Carolina tackled Darryl Williams will have

(01:07:09):
knee surgery at a torn mc l and camp. The
Patriots side wide receivers Corey Coleman and Benny Fowler. Julian
Edelman is still serving a four game suspension. Falcons linebacker
Dion Jones goes on i R with a foot injury,
so he'll miss at least two months. The Steelers say
quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is dealing with a minor elbow injury.
He may be limited in practice to start the week.

(01:07:30):
In the NHL, Steve Eiserman is stepping down as Tampa
Bay general manager. He'll head home to Detroit reportedly, but
we'll stay with Tampa Bay as an advisor. Hockey's preseason
games start this weekend for some clubs. Us Men Soccer
plays an exhibition against Mexico tonight in Nashville Women's World
Cup qualifying. His next month on Fox. In baseball, Chris
Sale gets the start for the Red Sox in Boston tonight,

(01:07:51):
hosting Toronto. He's finally off the d L after shoulder inflammation.
He'll likely only pitch about two innings. He's had one
start since late July. There is a game going on
right now, first of a double header at Philadelphia after
the rainout last night. Nationals lead one nothing at Philly,
top of the fifth nitting. Almost nobody in the stands
for this makeup game right now. Nobody in the stands.

(01:08:12):
I mean, would you go? I mean, I guess you
get off, you get off work. Let's welcome in, Golden
take Detroit Lions, fresh off of disappointing night on Monday
Night football. But he's joining us. Some behalf of Call
of Duty Black Ops four. I want to talk about that,
but let's start with last night. If if we would,
thanks so much for joining us, Golden, You've got a
chance to reflect. How would you describe what exactly happened?

(01:08:34):
You know, we just did we didn't put our best
product on the field. Um, you know we worked so
hard this all season trying to get ready for the season.
We just didn't put put a good product on the field. Um,
So we're just gonna look in at the mirror and
reflect and come back out and make sure that that
happen again. You know, we know we have a good team,
no doubt about that. We just need to put that
product on the field insistently. Um. I think we got

(01:08:56):
us yesterday. It turnovers and I'm freaking men, Miles though
it was. I think we're gonna be just fine. So, um,
good news is we have a bunch of more games,
and one game doesn't define anyone's season. So we're just
gonna have a great week of work this week and
and get back out there to San Francisco and try
to handle business the way we know how to. No question,
no question that things can start out poorly and and

(01:09:17):
and great. Um, but the mix of emotions when your
defense get to pick six on a rookie quarterback's first
throw from screaming, You're like, that's it, this is a rap.
What what changed? How did you guys lose momentum? I mean,
obviously the turnovers are a huge factor, but how did
how did you lose that momentum so quickly? You know,
I'm really anxious to get back in there and watch it,

(01:09:39):
watch the film and figure that out of a staff.
But you know, it's just things just didn't feel I
feel like what I've you know, felt over the last
four years. It's just so different. But we can never
really get into a groove. Um, we just go so
slow out there. So we know we're gonna watch the

(01:09:59):
film and and figure us all out and get back
to business. I'm I'm excited to get back on the field,
feel because I would get that taste out of my mouth. Man,
I don't like this filling. Yeah. The crazy thing is
like fantasy owners are like, hey, dude, you have a
touchdown you know? Is that do you get that where
you you like? Personally, You're like, we got beat. I
hate losing. I'm a super competitive guy. And fantasy owners like, hey,

(01:10:20):
don't worry about it. Gold you still kind of touchdown pass?
You're still good with me? How do you? How do you?
How do you handle that? Yeah, I'm not I'm not
the biggest fan of that. You know. A lot of
like you said, a lot of people tweeted at me
and say, hey, you got me these points. I'm like, man,
I'm in the business of winning. I need to win,
so Um, you know, you know, we just gotta get

(01:10:43):
back to work. But I'm just ready to get back
out in the field and get this taste out of
my mouth. Golden take joining us on the Dug Out
Lip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Um, that aside, what
is the new coaching staff? Like? What is the new regime? Like?
What has this been like from this is not your
first tour of duty if you will to take them
call of duty? What what what has this preseason now

(01:11:05):
obviously one game in been like for you? It's been different. Um.
You know this is in nine years, this is only
my third head coach, which, like you said, as a
as a blessing. Um, And we're just all trying to learn.
Uh you know what what to expect from coach Patrician?
Was he? What do you expect from us? So you
know it's it's a learning curve for everybody. He's trying

(01:11:27):
to learn about us as well. So, UM, you know,
I'm not worried by any means, and I'm excited for
what the future holds for us. But we're just we're
trying to learn from each other right now. Golden Tate
joining us. Tell me about tell me about call of Duty, Like,
are you old school first gen I played Call of
Duty since it launched, or are you kind of a

(01:11:48):
Johnny come lately. I probably started a Call of Duty
when I was back in I guess probably oh eight
is why I first got turned onto it was a
Halo guy to start off. But then once I you know,
once I guys looked down to it. I buy it
every year. Um, I try to even get it early.

(01:12:08):
I'm a full blown addict. And the fact that they've added,
um it's blackout mode, I think they're just about to
take take the game to a whole another level. What's
what's the way? What's the black for? People don't know
what what's what's the blackout mode? So black out motors,
I don't know if if you are familiar with your
style of playing Fortnite and and pub G, where it's
you know a bunch of people landing on the island

(01:12:31):
and you get to choose wherever you want to land
and you have opportunity of looting, um for a gun,
um grenades, medical ump flies, um. But what separates I
think Calls Do from these other games is that you know,
you can you can swim, you can fly, you can

(01:12:51):
get on the boat. You can do practically anything you want.
And That's what I'm loving about it so far. Um,
Like I said, I think this is the future style
of gaming. I'm glad Paul Duty is introducing it this year.
And you know, just by playing the bat Debata for
a few hours, I'm already in love with it. I
love I love all the things that allows me to do.

(01:13:12):
Colden Tate joining us on the on the Doug Gotlip Show.
When do you know on a young quarterback? Right? Like
you were in Seattle with Russell? Uh, you know obviously
in Detroit here with with Stafford? Like when do you
last night you saw Donald? But it's only one game.
A lot of us as fans, we fall in love
or or we we completely dismissed guys based upon their
early performances. But some guys their first year awesome and

(01:13:34):
then everybody figures them out. Some guys like like Jared Goff,
he was terrible his first year, but he's been obviously
surrounded by a really good team, but much better ever since.
I I always operated on the assumption players know, like
you guys know way more than we could ever possibly
because you see it as a guy who has been
a super talented wide receiver in this league for nine years.

(01:13:54):
When do you know a quarterback's got it? I think
you kind of know, and you kind of contented in
April and May, and then you know, usually it's solidified
in camp. Um. You know, because just spending every single
day with the quarterback and you're just seeing all the
throws and all the calls he's making. But I say,

(01:14:14):
in order for a quarterback to be elite and be good,
you have to have other pieces to the puzzle. Um.
I think I think so many times, you know, these
number one to three overall picks have so much pressure
and like people from the outside just think, oh, that
he's going to be the reason why this organization turns around.

(01:14:35):
But you know, if he doesn't have all the line
to protect him, or receivers that can get open versus
man or running back or defense, that's gonna be solid
enough where he doesn't feel like he needs to go
out there and and and be aggressive every single drive.
It can you know, it can make it tough. So um,

(01:14:55):
like I said, a lot goes into it. But um,
I was impressed with samm You know, after that first play,
I think he showed up. Um. He handled the game
very well and kept it under control. And you know
their defense, they're a great job with us, you know,
taking you know five, you think five turnovers from us
or four turnovers from us, and just kind of took

(01:15:16):
the pressure off of them. Um, so you know the tree.
We're still out, Um, still more games to be played,
and you know, we'll see what happens. But I wish,
wish nothing but the best one you have a if
you have a group of three other need three other
dudes to play C O D with you on the
Detroit Lions? Who are they on the Detroit lines man? Well,

(01:15:38):
if we were all the same system, I would say
I'll go with Marquez Bradley, noted um, one of my
young guys, Brandon Powe, and then who gets the last call?
The same system is big? Probably there Slay Um, we'll

(01:15:59):
be you will be my my next one. But the
guys that I play with now are Er de Bron,
Andre Roberts and Jermaine Cursy. Get out there a little
bit with us. Yeah, so old old Seattle, old old
Lion teammate. Um that that makes that makes sense? Call
of duty Black Ops four and our thanks for them
helping us bring Golden Tate Golden. Thanks so much for

(01:16:21):
being stand up joining us today after I lost. A
lot of guys would have ducked out on interviews. That's
not who you are. That's why I love having you on.
Thanks me our guest on Fox Sports Tradio. Absolutely my
pleasure pleasures are Golden Tate joining us on the Doug
got Leap Show. Apparently Collin Coward thinks uh he has
a thing against guys wear their hat backwards. This old

make sense in this world, I want you to use

(01:17:04):
these two words. Okay, Ramos, got it, Here we go.
That's baseball. That's baseball, all right. The Colorado Rockies are
seventy nine and sixty four. They're fifteen games, about five hundred.
Give me more runs. They've scored in their opponent, not
a single one. They've scored the exact same number of
runs as their opponents for for the entirety of their

(01:17:27):
of their season. That's a hundred and uh, how's my
math here? A hundred and forty three games in they've
scored the exact same number six hundred eighty as their
opponent Los Doyer's. The l A Dodgers have scored one
hight more runs than their opponents. They have two more

(01:17:48):
losses and one fewer wins. They're a game and a
half back. Even the Arizona Diamonbacks, who the Rockies lamb
based did yesterday, and their two and eight over their
last ten, they've lost three in a row. The Diamondbacks
have scored seventy more runs than their opponents, and they're
just seventy six and three and a half back. Do
you know why? That's baseball, which, of course you can

(01:18:11):
use in life. Your wife ever says, uh, honey, I
thought you went to Jimmy's house to watch the game
on Saturday night. I did. It's funny because, um, Jimmy's
wife's was there, and she said you weren't there. There's
a hotel room key and lipstick on your collar. And
not only did you not come home, but there's a

(01:18:32):
charge for overnight parking at that hotel. Honey, trust me,
I was there. You know why why? That's baseball. And

their hat backwards in positions of power. He said it
about Tony Romo romanout a franchise quarterback, because he had

(01:19:16):
his hat on backwards. And he said this about Matt Patricia,
new head coach and Alliance today. But there are generals
and there are soldiers, and appearance matters. It does. You
don't want to look like a frat boy, especially when
you've never accomplished anything, especially when all of Bill Belichick's

(01:19:36):
assistants flame out, but Colin Bill Belichick wears on the
sideline it doesn't matter. He's the greatest coach ever. Certain
guys can come to work, they have the corner office.
They don't have to wear a tie. You're an intern, champ,
do better. Matt Patricia on the sidelines look like a chump.

(01:19:58):
That's a mess. Hat on ackwards guy. First gig had
on backwards guy. In the last two games, Matt Patricia
has been shredded by Nick Foles and the youngest rookie
quarterback ever. I mean that just that there was nothing
about Ma Patricia. I know what you're saying. Colin looks,
don't I Do you ever see Sean McMann a sideline
dude look sharp? You ever see Kyle Shanahan and shide line?

(01:20:21):
He he looks sharp. That's fine. But Matt Patricia is
exactly what he purported him to be put himself to
being before, and that act has worked. So I do
I think image matters in a boardroom. I do, But
I also think it matters in football. And when you're
fake two players they see through it. You know. It's like, uh,

(01:20:45):
remember when Ed straight Arrow Gennaro got got sick, had
what he thought was a heart attack, but it was
really gas in necessary roughness. Do you remember that romist?
You're looking at me like, I don't remember the movie.
I don't remember the actual that particular part of the movie.
You don't. That was one with Cathie Ireland, Right, Cathy
Ireland was the kicker, was the first female kicker. You
don't remember this. Scott Bacula was the was the court,

(01:21:07):
was the quarterback. Right, Okay, I'll take you back into
that movie. There was a scene where Ed ed Gennaro
was played by Hector Eliza No, right, okay. His assistant coach,
coach Wally rigg was played by Robert what was it Loggia?
How do you say his last name? Loggia? And famous
kind of character actor. Anyway, when Ed Gennaro had what

(01:21:32):
he thought was a heart attack, Loggia got dressed in
the suit and tie and he was scratched himself, and
he just he's a football guy. He was uncomfortable, so
by halftime he changed right out of that suit. That's
how I view Matt Patricia. Whether or not Matt Patricia
works or doesn't work in Detroit, Will have nothing to
do with his attire. NFL coaches are judged strictly based

(01:21:53):
upon wins and losses. Colling years ago, UH had a number.
I think it was like half the coach in the
NFL have must had must stashes at the time, whereas
in college football there were like three head coaches in
Division one that had mustaches. The reason is because in
college football you have to recruit, so you've gotta look
business like, and people don't necessarily trust adults to come

(01:22:14):
into their house with a mustache. You just don't. This
isn't about recruiting, it's about coaching ball. He's got to
be better, but it doesn't come down to his dress.
Sinbad was on that team, all right, you guys remember Sinbad.
Rob Schneider was there both their play by play and
their color man. Jason Bateman was on that team. And

(01:22:34):
then there's a featherstone, Duane Davis, don't throw it to
stone ends. Here's what I want us to collectively stop doing.
We need to stop blaming John Gordon. Doesn't mean there's
not blame to go around in Oakland, but we need
to stop pointing the finger at Chucky. Oh, Chucky makes

(01:22:57):
all this money. He's not the only one that makes money,
and he's out the one who sticks at the blame.
They who is upcoming next in The Doug Gotlip Show

shirt out? I gotta ask him about I put it
on his Instagram, Denzel Award. We'll be We'll be joining us.
Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do Do

(01:23:43):
Do Dode's fascinating to see. I put on my top
ten teams in the National Football League last night, and uh,
guys are freaking out because I think the Bengals are
pretty good. I think the Ravens are pretty good. I
had Vikings one Ram to my logic behind the Vikings
ahead of the Rams. Both teams loaded with talent um.

(01:24:06):
I like the wide receiving corps of the Vikings better,
Theeeling and Stefan Diggs. I like that wide receiving corps
better than that of the Rams, even if I like
Todd Gurley more than Dalvin Cook. I like Dalvin Cook,
but he's not as good as that is as proven
as Todd Gurley, but it's more Kirk Cousins. I think
is is better than Jared goff Um. I think the

(01:24:29):
overall defense is probably better, even if some individual pieces
are better for for the Rams. So I got Vikings one,
Rams two. I put the Pads three. That's a really
hard one. I don't think they're super talented. They're not
healthy at widers. They signed two more wide receivers today,
but they still got Tom Brady, and the defense on
some level appears to be better and they can just
outscheme you. But the Ravens at four, I can't tell

(01:24:52):
whether it's the Bills are that bad, which I think
they are, the Ravens are a lot better than people think,
which I think they are. But the Eagles at five.
My logic behind the Eagles being five is that defensive
line won them the game. They have two good running backs,
they're playing without al Sean Jeffrey based on their current roster.
Five is maybe a little bit generous. Could have lost

(01:25:13):
at home to Atlanta Falcons, but they do have a
dynamic pass rush and eventually they're gonna get Carson Wentz back.
But the Eagles at five, the Carolina Panthers with their
defense some of their playmakers at six, Green Bay at seven,
Kansas City at eight, Cincinnati nine, in Atlanta ten. Why No,
Denver not a big buyern in case Keenum, not a

(01:25:37):
big Byron in that offense. It's really what it comes
down to. But Denver is gonna start to and oh
because they get the Raiders on their home turf. Raiders
on a short turnaround week, playing late into the night
on a Monday night, which means today is recovery day Wednesday. Uh,
they come back to work and they start to implement

(01:25:57):
a game plan as opposed to the Broncos, who played Sunday,
got a chance to rest yesterday and watched the game
take place. I think the Broncos are gonna be two
and oh, But I'm not a huge buyer. It's more
about the Raiders, and it's it's look, I'm not gonna
say it's unfair too to hold Gruden accountable for the

(01:26:20):
moves that he's made, including including trading away a dynamic
pass rusher. But we need to stop with you. They
had no path. No one thought they would have a
pass rush without clil Mac. If you remember Gruden's comments,
and they are accurate. Hey, that defense two years ago

(01:26:41):
they made the playoffs wasn't good and cleil Max statistically
was spectacular. So why would anyone believe that suddenly the
defense was gonna be better when you took the best
defensive player off of it. How does that logic work?
I almost feel you gotta stop laming Gruden because Gruman's
Gruden's play is the long term play. But part of

(01:27:04):
that long term play is, Hey, we can't afford to
pay two superstars. We gotta pay one, and that's got
to be the quarterback. You can blame Derek Carr. Derek
Carr was flat out crumby in the second half yesterday.
And you know, one of the things that led one

(01:27:25):
of the things that led to Derek Carr falling in
the draft is not just that he's the brother of
David Carr, but he had one of the same flaws
or perceived flaws that David Carr had John Ramos. Do
you remember the flaw or the supposed flaw that David
Carr had. Ah, maybe he threw too quick or he

(01:27:52):
didn't he didn't look look off his main receiver at all. No,
David Carr um was sacked his rookie year a record
number of times. Seventy six times, oh my god, seventies
six times. Um was it? And there wasn't Johnny Utah? Right?

(01:28:12):
Who was that? Who was that? What was that? Was? Replacements? Right? Utah? No?
Ut Johnny Utah was was Johnny Utah was point break?
Shane Falco. Shane Falco was basically David Carr. It's called footsteps.
They called him footsteps because he heard footsteps because he
got sacked so much during his rookie year. By the way,

(01:28:37):
just just so you know, one year, I think his
rookie year, Rayno Cunningham got sacked seventy two times. But
David Carr some of it was he held on the
ball too long. David Carr had a season with seventy
two sacks allowed. Another one was sixty eight. So he
held on the ball too long or sometimes panicked when
he saw a pressure in his face. And Derek Carr

(01:28:57):
many people believe has some of that, some of those
same issues where he just freaks out when he gets
pressure in his face and then holds onto it when
he can't see it and takes a while the process things.
I personally think he can't. I can't point the finger
at Gruten. Gruden didn't think he was taking over a

(01:29:18):
finished product. It's not like he was claiming We're gonna
win a Super Bowl this year or else. He knew
they had to fix it. He knew they had to
get cap room for the future, and he did not
believe that investing in Khalil Mac for eight years was
a smart way to do so. But I do think
that Gruden in the future could accept some blame. But

(01:29:40):
right now, don't blame Gruden. He did a good job
of putting Derek Carr in good position the first half.
When they go off script in the second half, oh
that was bad. Was not good. I mean, look at
the second half box scores, second half team stats, and
I mean just alarming on paper. The Raiders got eleven

(01:30:05):
passing first downs as opposed to thirteen for the Rams,
seven running rushing as opposed to eight for the Rams.
The turnovers are a big problem. They had three. You
lose the turnover battle, you generally lose the game. They
also had more penalties. They also had more penalties, But
the bigger issue, even though oakland one time of possession

(01:30:26):
is the second half, second half was completely and thoroughly
and totally totally dominated by the l A rams. Some
of that was turnovers, some of that was just an
inability to matriculate the ball down the football field. There
were two where he freaked out. One where he looked
like somebody on Twitter said, when you kind of pressed

(01:30:47):
the pass button twice and you throw a little lob
in Madden. That was one interception, and another one he
threw it to Jared Cook, who might have been sitting
down against his own and he panic because he saw
pressure in his face. It is totally fair in the
future to blame Gruden if they can't make the salary
cap room and the draft picks work. But in the
short term, that one Gruden's fault. Derek Car's full alright.

(01:31:14):
Denzel Ward joins the show up coming next. He picked
up Big Ben twice on Sunday in his first game
as an NFL player. I'll ask him if a tie
is actually a win for the Browns. I said yesterday,
I felt like the Steelers lost in the Browns one,
even though they had the same score on the scoreboard.
We'll ask him if he feels the same. That's upcoming

(01:31:37):
next in The Doug got Lip Show Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Dot
Leap Show week days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
Car shopping can be confusing with terms like dealer price,
list price, an invoice price. True Car shows what other
people paid for the car you want, so you can
recognize a good price when you're ready to buy a

(01:31:57):
new or used car. Visit True Car and enjoy more
confident car buying experience. You guys know, my everyone in
my family outside of me plays the piano. I feel
like such a loser. I really do. UM, And we
have a piano at my house. And so when my
daughters were taking piano lessons, um, they're taking piano lessons,

(01:32:21):
we started looking for a piano and my buddy was like, look, dude,
don't buy a brand new piano. Plenty of people are
trying to ditch there. They're they're grand or I don't
know what the baby grand pianos. And so he turned
me on to someone who was trying to sell an old,
like nineteen fifties piano, and they had owned a shop

(01:32:46):
in Boston, Massachusetts, an old couple. And he's like, look,
I was at this auction in Boston and this thing
is not going to meet it's um, it's the baseline limit.
Whatever it is, the lowest possible bit. Call them off
from some money for it. So I actually put in
a bid that was below that of the normal price,

(01:33:10):
and they called me back and said, do you want
this piano? I said yes, but you know, they said
it's a ten thousand dollar piano. I was like, well,
the reserve wastred and no one offered you the reserve,
So I'll give you two thousand for it, because then
I gotta move it and I gotta tune it. So

(01:33:30):
the owner and old man he called me, was very
very nice. So I've owned the shop in London and
we're tiring or moving to Florida, and this is a
this is a fifteen thousand dollar piano if it's redone,
and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. I said, sir,
I'm not trying to disrespect you. I'm not trying to
disrespect your wife, and I'm definitely not trying to disrespect
your piano. I want to buy it, but it's gonna

(01:33:52):
cost me a thousand hours to ship at a couple
hundred dollars to tune it, and no one's offered the reserve.
He said it's worth ten dollars. I said, sir, In business,
you're worth what somebody's willing to pay you, and something's
worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So

(01:34:12):
I got the piano for two grand, gifted to me.
We still have it to this day and it's it's
really cool, um, and my kids played all the time.
I bring that up because the market dictates what your
value is. You can say I'm worth X, but at
the market says why you're worth Why? And Dez Bryant

(01:34:35):
sitting out there and I'm sure he thinks that he
should have a job, Sure he does, but the New
England Patriots or a team that he tweeted about playing on,
and that doesn't mean that the Paths are sitting there
reading their Twitter mentions saying, well, you know, Dez Bryant

(01:34:55):
wants to play for us, so we're going to sign him. No, no, no, no,
that's that's that's not the way it works. What I'm
saying is that everyone knows that des Bryant wants to play.
Everyone knows that des Bryant seems to want to play
for the knowing the Patriots. The Patriots signed two different

(01:35:16):
free agent wide receivers, only had three wide receivers on
their roster for today. He signed Corey Coleman, who was
going to be released by the Browns. They pulled off
one of the great trades this year early in season,
as he asked to be and was traded right there
on hard knocks and uh. They signed two wide receivers today.

(01:35:39):
Neither are named des Bryant. Neither. They also signed John
Barner earlier today as well. And so what's interesting to
me is des Bryant may think his value is X.
I I should be wanted by the Matriots. They want

(01:36:01):
to win. I've played in the playoffs. I'm worth X
When his value is why? And I don't think it
has anything to do with how much money he wants.
It's more that when a winning team that has taken
on veteran players that have been released. Needs a guy
at your position, and they go and sign not one,

(01:36:23):
but two two different wide receivers and a running back
who frankly can play wide receiver. He signed Benny Fowler
and Corey Coleman earlier today because they don't have Julian
Edelman and Chris Hogan, Philip dors Set and Cordelle Patterson
is not really a wide receiver when they need that
type of depth, especially after Riley McCarron muffed a punt

(01:36:47):
and they don't call Dez Bryant. It's telling you that
Dez Bryant's toxic, that people don't want to sign him.
He went into Cleveland and thought he was too good
for the Browns. He wasn't even returning their phone calls
because he thought, Hey, the Package are gonna need me,
and they may well need him. The Patriots are gonna

(01:37:08):
need me, and they may well need him. But to
this point, and we're now a game into the season,
which is supposedly when we thought he would be signed.
Because you don't have to guarantee his contract, he's still
out there in the market. The market is dictating what
his value is. If there's any value at all. Anyway,
I thought it's interesting that does seem to blow off

(01:37:31):
that Cleveland Brown's interview on Hard Knocks Lessen, I got
no problem, like I'm wearing a shirt with cut off sleeves.
I'd wear headphones around, but I'm not going for a
job interview, he did and didn't seem really prepared to
talk to the Browns about actually joining the team. I
guess it's big news of the Browns did not lose,

(01:37:52):
but did they actually win? Right? Coming back from fourteen
down and having a field goal to win the game.
Did it feel like a win in Cleveland. Let's catch
up with the PEPSI Rookie of the Week. You can
check him out on Twitter at Denzel Award to see
his new shirt he's selling, with the proceeds going to
communities across Ohio. Rookie Sensation two interceptions in his first

(01:38:13):
game going against Antonio Brown. Denzel Ward joins us on
the Doug Gottler Show. Denzel, congrats on the PEPSI Rookie
of the Week. I'm sorry you're up for the award.
My bad. I just handed you. I handed you the
award anyway, Um, all right, Well, what give me the set?
You run onto the field, It's not your first game,
even in Ohio in a big stadium, in the games

(01:38:36):
played at the Shoe are equally as big or bigger.
But to run on the field as a pro, as
a top as a top five draft pick, and you
know you're playing against Pittsburgh Steelers, what was it like
to to run on the field the first time as
an official NFL player? It was just really exciting, filler.
It's always been my dream as a kid to make

(01:38:56):
it in an NFL and playing uh meaningful NFL games.
So it was always my dream to do that. And
then I was just looking forward to how I meshed
up against those guys. So you match up against a
b what are you thinking? Like, what's what's processing in
your mind as you're matching up against for many people,
the best wide receiver in the game. Yeah, really, I'm

(01:39:18):
I'm very confident who I am as a player and
as a man. I mean, yeah, he's definitely a great player,
great receiver. But um, I just trusted my technique, trusted
of my film and what I studied, and just really
went out there and play ball. That it's uh first
intent at the Cleveland eight team. They're marching down the
field zero zero game. Ben Roethlisberger drops back and wants

(01:39:43):
to throw a ball to Antonio Brown. What happened on
the first interception? Yeah, first interception, I was kind of
taking away to receiver that was most outside of the flat.
And then I kind of got my eyes back to
uh Ben Roethlisberger and kind of singing his eyes where
he wanted to go with and I jumped the rope.
All right, let's go to the second interception. Now you

(01:40:03):
guys are down seven nothing again, marching down the field
in your territory, big bend. Second and ten. Uh, he's
in the shotgun. Who is he was looking for? He
was looking for Jesse James. I think going over going
over the middle. What do you see that time? Yeah?
I was actually a man of man, but I kind
of got my eyes back on the quarterback end that
was really just right place, right tom and of the

(01:40:27):
ball had splitts out of the receiver's hands and I
was just in the right place and I was able
to take the ball away and uh, you know, off
the ball be So what are you gonna do with
the two footballs? What are you gonna do with two footballs,
you know, like if you got one, like now you're like,
oh what, but now you've got you've got two interceptions.
I know at least the equipment managers like, dude, you
gotta hold on those your first your first interceptions, and

(01:40:47):
you got him in one game. What are you can
do with the balls? Yeah, definitely, I'm definitely gonna put
it in the showcase or shaw off. Don'twhere in my place?
So it's over time. The weather's nasty. It's been a
crazy game. Steelers have turned it over five times. You
guys have turned over a couple of times. You're lining
up for what would be the game winning field goal,

(01:41:08):
and this is a franchise that you know, only won
one game in the past two years. What were you
doing during that field goal? It was just on the
fill hours of watching the waiting the out from the game.
What's the feeling like when you saw it Gift blocked? Uh?
It was. It was a little frustrating, Uh disappointing, But

(01:41:29):
I mean you gotta just be ready for the next
games though, just because because the Browns and you weren't
part of it, but because the Browns didn't win a
game last year and because the Steelers were are are
one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl. There
by some people's estimation, there's a sense, Hey, the Browns
didn't not only they didn't lose, but you guys actually won.

(01:41:49):
Where is the Steelers? Well they didn't, they didn't win,
but they actually lost that game. Is that the feeling
that you guys had that it's a win because you
tied the Steelers. You know, that's definitely not our minds set.
Our mindset, we lost the game. If we didn't win,
we lost, So a tie is not a win. We
don't don't go in the game hoping for a tie

(01:42:10):
or to move the game. You're always go into a game, uh,
focusing on winning and that's the main goal. But we
didn't get that goal done. So we just hope to
do that next week. Denzel Ward joining us in the
Doug Gottlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. What'd you
personally learn? You said, what I learned? Yeah, I mean,
you play a game, you're matching up against a couple
of you know, one of the best offensive football you

(01:42:33):
match up against a be a bunch. What you what
you learned that you didn't previously know are really definitely
just like the temple of the game and the various
routes to you who get out of formations, and just
a lot of things like that, a lot of in
game scenarios. Now you gotta you gotta clean. Strew Brees
is like, all right, hey, good news is you survive

(01:42:53):
the Pittsburgh Steels. Now you get Drew Brees. Um the
feeling of going from playing at home on the road
against another high powered offense. How much does the prep
change if any? Yeah, I'm looking forward to The prep
doesn't really change. Contact the mindsets every game, just given
a playbook, study, watching film on those guys there, and

(01:43:14):
going to the next game, focus on. Want tell about
this T shirt that I know the proceeds are going
to communities across Ohio. Um, first, let me first, let
me let me play a highlight for you. Tell you
see how this feels. Slaughter to the sideline calls stop
what hits out? Lord? You got barbecue back there and

(01:43:38):
you didn't even fight me my failing. Uh that was
the call on Fox? That was that that's the that's
the hit that the shirt embodies. How did you like
the only that's that's gus Johnson on the call. Had
you heard that call yet? Yes? I heard that call.
It feels pretty good, Dinna. Yeah, definitely. He did a

(01:43:59):
great job of calling it. And so the T shirt
says hurt period, my period feelings, Denzel. Denzel Ward, who
came up with the design, really was inspired by Gus
Johnson and his call on that place. It's pretty cool. Man.
Do you have on your own? Are you simply selling
them preferred for the process. Yeah, I have one of

(01:44:20):
my own, but I'm also selling them around the Cleveland
anyone else who would like to purchase one there. There
there's this sense that what we saw on Hard Knocks
from some people we watch on Hard Knocks, you like, man,
what's real and what's guys playing, you know, playing a
character that they want to be on TV? How much

(01:44:40):
of when you were around those cameras were people acting
different because the cameras run, I'm not I'm not really sure. Everybody.
Everybody's seemed pretty um focused and I don't think they
were legit how they were, they didn't come across this
being out the ordinary. I know you I everybody loves
JT at Ohio State, but I'm sure you've been watching

(01:45:04):
the Buckeyes put up some serious numbers. Dwayne Haskins is
having an unbelievable start, not just throwing the football, but
throwing it deep down the field. Check out these numbers,
nine touchdowns, one interception. You guys lost a bunch but
a bunch of super young guys around you, and now
you have, I think, a better weapon in terms of
a deep throw with Dwayne. What's your feelings on Ohio

(01:45:24):
State in terms of are they actually better this year
than they were last year? Uh? Definitely. It's some great
guys still there, Like once once, the guys leaving up
to the draft of Coach Meyer and all those guys
do a great job of getting the players that may
not have been the starters prepared. They're ready to go
out there and play. So, like you said, Dwayne Haskins,
he's a great quarterback and I'm looking forward to watching

(01:45:45):
their next game. All right, Well, listen, safe travels down
to New Orleans and we'll help you hawk some of
these shirts because it is for a good cause. Plus
it was an awesome hit. You had an incredible first game.
Best of luck. In the PEPSI Rookie of the Week voting,
I'm guessing you. I mean, I don't know other rookies.
Got two interceptions. The other one could be Sam Arnold
maybe because Donald was so good uh last night, But otherwise,
great stuff and thanks for joining us. Thank you. I

(01:46:06):
appreciated that Denzel Ward follow him on Twitter. At It's
at Denzel a Ward on Instagram. Just make sure I
get on Twitter, right, it's uh at Denzil a Ward
on Twitter. I believe is um did that King of
the Fall? That his? Is it somebody else? No, that's
not his. So's at Denzel ward on on Instagram and
they'll take you to his. He's got a bunch, got

(01:46:29):
a bunch at Denzel Ward on Twitter as well, got
on it early. Steve de segar Seger, what's your Twitter handle?
I only follow. I don't tweet, so I'm a bad follow.
Put it that way, a person who doesn't tweet, it's
a bad fallow. Wait if you have a Twitter handle though, right?
I do, But it's worthless to follow because I don't tweet.
How many times you don't ever tweet? Nope, not not once? Noop,

(01:46:54):
And I don't know tweets. And now on a day
I'm not working, I don't normally spend twenty minutes scre
link through others either as a human being, known as
a day off. You might remember the name Sean Maniah
threw a no hitter for the A's in April against Boston.
He will have shoulder surgery for Oakland next week, and
the team just said they expect the picture to miss

(01:47:15):
all of next year. The A's are shockingly good this season,
eighty seven and fifty seven the record, only three games
back at defending champion Houston in the Division race. Oakland's
won four in a row, and they get to play
at Baltimore tonight. The Orioles, the worst team in the Majors. Boston,
the best team in the Major Leagues, host Toronto tonight,
and Chris sale gets the start for the Red Sox,
finally off the d L after shoulder inflammation. He'll likely

(01:47:38):
pitch only about two innings. He's had one start since
late July, in a double header after last night's rain
out at Philadelphia in the first of two in front
of apparently friends and family only, Nationals lead to nothing
over the fills in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Cleveland's at Tampa Bay tonight, the Indians activated third baseman
Josh Donaldson. He hasn't played in the Major since late
May due to injuries. Panthers tight end Greg Olsen rebroke

(01:48:02):
his foot. He was on crutches after Sunday's opener. He'd
had surgery on it last year and missed two months.
Olsen's opting not to have surgery at this time. Carolina
tackled Darryl Williams will have knee surgery at a torn
m C L and camp. The Patriots signed wide receivers
Corey Coleman and Bennie Fowler. Julian Edelman is still serving
a four game suspension. New England will sign running back
Kenyan Barner as well. Falcon's linebacker Dion Jones goes on

(01:48:25):
i R with a foot injury, so he'll miss at
least two months, and Virginia Tech not playing its home
game due to weather this weekend. North Carolina, North Carolina
State as well. Back to you, great stuff, Steve, I
don't tweet, I just followed Segar. That's that's one of those.
There's a lot of guys like Steve Seger who had

(01:48:45):
they have a good, good balance about the rest of us.
We kind of we get into it. We're like, oh man,
how do I get off of? I mean, not tweet today.
I can't stop tweeting today. Romis, you're happy your lifelong
Rams fan? Yes, very The first half is a little
bit down, but then they turned on the burners and
just kind of walked away from the Raiders. They did.

(01:49:06):
That's that's the old boat race. They boat raced the
Raiders in the second half. That was a really impressive
second half. They had most of the weapons. Didn't see
and Dominicans sue Aaron Donald didn't get credit. But Aaron
Donald did provide some pressure and Derek Carr got rid
of the football. Twenty three nothing in the second half. Wow,
twenty three nothing. Rams end up winning thirty three to

(01:49:29):
the Jets winning seventeen. I do get credit, right, we
did both Ramos and I picked the Rams to win
and the Rams to cover. And so that's a four
and two weekend for your boy in the NFL, A
three and two weekend for your boy in college football.
We'll take it. In the money. Seven and four is
good living, right, not if you do the parlay, but

(01:49:50):
it's good living. No, But we did not say we
did not say parley mall um. College football this week,
NFL football this week. Remember we do have games on Thursday,
and we do have a pretty good NFL game on Thursday.
The college games on Thursday not much in terms of interest.
H b C. Wake Forest which is on Thursday, which

(01:50:11):
I believe will get in just before that storm hits.
That's why they still are going to have it. The
NFL game is good because it gives us um uh,
it gives us I think what in Division Ravens Bengals
two teams that I'm higher on than everybody else is
high on. And the Ravens kind of had the half
of the week off. They shut it down a little
bit of at halftime. But Andy Dalton was really good.

(01:50:32):
Mixing was really good, so too is A. J. Green.
The Bengals a one point favorite in an a f
C North tilt. The winner of this one is not
only two and oh, but they get that Sunday off,
and if you're the Ravens, they got the Broncos coming
in the following week and that would be staring at
three and oh with the win. Whereas the Bengals they
need it bad because they go to Carolina and then

(01:50:54):
to Atlanta before they get the Dolphins at home. Dallas
Cowboys are interesting. We went up to camp up there,
and having talked to several of the players off air.
Obviously we talked to a bunch of them on air,
but having talked to several of Dallas Cowboy players off air,

(01:51:15):
they all said a little bit different. You know, there's
we're trying an ensemble cast at wide receiver and the
idea is spread people out. Cole Beasley probably the go
to guy, and Cole Beasley get a good game. Eight targets,
seven catches, seventy three yards ten ten yards a catch,
but without really a go to tight end. You know,

(01:51:38):
you're using Jeff Swain, Michael Gallups just a rookie. You're
really dependent upon two guys to make things happen, as
Zeke Elliott to put another guy in the box, and
Zeke only had sixty nine yards rushing, and you're dependent
upon Dak Prescott to make plays. And I'm not going
to tell you that there's we want pass or fail, right,

(01:52:04):
that's kind of what we want with our quarterbacks, pass
or fail. Is he good or is he bad? Is
he great? Or is he crumbing? Is he our guy?
Or do we needed a guy. There's a lot of
life is lead in. Life has lived in the gray area. Right,
it's in the gray area. No, do you believe that

(01:52:28):
we should lower taxes? Yes? I do? All right? What
if we cut school funding? No, we should not. What
if I said that two? Okay, we cut the police?
No no, no, no no no no no no no
no no. But I want but you want me to
cut taxes. Yes, there's a gray area there. We gotta
cut some We got those raised tax lower taxes there.

(01:52:49):
Make sure we lower my tax bracketing order about everybody
else's tax bracket. Life is lived truly in the gray area.
TV pushes us to the fringes. Right. We know that
in politics, and that's how it becomes in sports. What
if I told you that Dak Prescott is gonna fail.
He's not a pass Somewhere in the middle. Everything is

(01:53:12):
not a r F. There's other letter B, C or D,
and he's kind of a C. Take a listen with
Jerry Jones said on the Dallas radio station. We've got
a quarterback that is somewhere between the one that you
saw with the Rams last night and somewhere and Cam Newton.
He can do some of what both of those guys do.

(01:53:32):
There's an old laddage in uh looking and evaluating a player.
If you've seen them do it a few times, they
can do it. And if you've seen them do it well. Frankly,
all of our fans have seen Dak do it well.
You know it's there, you know he's got it. Yeah,
I don't see him being a Jared Goff, and I

(01:53:52):
don't I don't see him totally being a Cam Newton.
Cam Newton has been an m v P and I
guess he's saying that's his c link. The golf thing.
A lot of people think golf is product of system
and a really good play calling, an great surrounding talent.
You know, the issue they're running into is they don't

(01:54:13):
have wide receivers who create a ton of separation, and
they don't have a quarterback who throws them open. That's
a bad combination, right, this is a bad combination. And
so I think I think the Camp comparison is he's
a big body. He can run it. If we're playing,

(01:54:33):
you know, we're on time, and where he's running downhill,
he's a big old body. He can also throw. He's
got a big arm might not be the most accurate world.
He's he's somewhere in between pass and fail, somewhere between passing.
Whereas Tony Romo was a B plus a minus, it

(01:54:55):
feels like Dak Prescott is somewhere in the neighborhood of
a C plus maybe sometimes to see capable, as he said,
of being a B. But as much as he wants
to say, we've seen him, do it? Have we? How
many times did Dak Prescott? I want you, I want

(01:55:18):
you to guess here, how many times did Dak Prescott
throw for over three hundred yards last year? How many
times do you want to guess? I'll say twice? Twice? Okay,
music over under under it's under one time against the
Giants when they scored thirty points. And and normally quarterbacks

(01:55:42):
that are on teams that are losing, and remember they
were what five hundred last year, on losing teams, they
throw for more yards because they're behind. He only threw
for three hundred yards one time, one time. A matter
of fact, he threw for less than two less than

(01:56:03):
two hundred yards, less than two hundred nine times in
his second year in the nash Football So you can
sit here and tell me our fans have seen him
do it? Have they? He's thrown for over three hundred
yards three times in his career total total. Sure they've

(01:56:23):
seen him do it, but they've also seen him be fine.
Dak Prescott's a sea. Your wide receivers are collectively a C,
and so your offense is a C or C plus
and at best to be minus. If you go against
a team that can't stop as you kill it. Levan
Bell and the Steelers are headed for a divorce. I'll

(01:56:43):
prove it. Next. Be sure to catch live editions of

In the Meantime All Ball podcastle Drop think what tomorrow
or Thursday? I got to figure that one out all
you would definitely doing Thursday, all right, Scott Brooks will

(01:57:06):
be on that one. Still. Time to download the j
billis uh discussion with me? We got two parts to it.
It's really really good. Let's get to the press, the press.
Steve Disger, what you got good afternoon? Once again? Did
you see the photo from the basketball arena at George Washington.
Did I did? And I aren't. They supposed to have

(01:57:28):
a w n B A apparently if there's damage on
the court. No, they were going to be at George
Mason tomorrow for the w NBA Finals. I have read,
but the GW Twitter account says their scoreboard and the
basketball arena was undergoing maintenance today and from its lowered
position just above center court, it unexpectedly dropped. And so

(01:57:48):
there's a photo of one side of the JumboTron down
on the W and GW at center court. They say
nobody was injured, thankfully. The scene is being assessed for
any damage. But an odd photo to see. It is
an odd photo to see. I guess they had a
game USA against the US women's basketball team. Yeah. Yeah,
against Japan. They played in their real last night. Wow. Yeah,

(01:58:11):
that would have been bad, very bad. Meanwhile, we've mentioned
about how the Jets players have said that the defense
was calling out the Lions plays when Matthew Stafford brought
the Detroit offense to the line last night, and the team,
the team's hand signals were known and we were in
Stafford's head. As a defense well, of course, the coach,
Todd Bowles, meets media today. His quote is, no, we

(01:58:34):
didn't know any audibles. We didn't know any plays last night.
Those guys of mine did a good job following out
their assignments that the coach has taught him. They were
anticipating certain things. But no, I don't think we knew
the plays. End quote. Okay, Um, it just looked like it.
I guess it just looked like it. You know. No,
that's that's like the guy. That's like the guy who

(01:58:57):
who cheated on the test. It's like, now I didn't
have the answers the questions, but did not have the answer.
It's odd. But of course, the second game of the
night was John Gruden, whose team essentially did know the
plays of that Tampa Bay Super Bowl, right against his
old team in Oakland. They were also they were calling
out the audibles because they hadn't hadn't changed it. Uh well.
Brett McMurphy, longtime college football writer, has retweeted out the

(01:59:21):
Forbes list of ten most valuable college football programs? Can
you name the five most valuable? This is based on
average revenue of the three year span through most valuable
college football programs and taking in the dough. Let me
take a shot at it. Um Texas Ohio State, Yes,
and yes, Texas Ohio State, Alabama. Yes, I'll go with Michigan. Yes,

(01:59:48):
also in the top five. Last one is gonna be hard.
Last one is actually number one for that three year span,
even more than Texas, even more than Texas A and M.
Texas A and M is correct. Wow, five for five
pretty good? Right, Yeah, that's great. Unfortunately, you don't even

(02:00:10):
get a slice of the hundred forty eight million dollars
that Texas A and m's football program reportedly is value.
And the biggest misconception is like, well, yeah, Johnny Manzel
is the reason people showed up. Yeah, there's the reason
people shut up, Like, no, no, no, they weren't even good.
They weren't even good. They fired they paid Kevin Summlan
twenty million dollars to not coach anymore. They weren't even good. Well,

(02:00:33):
it's because it's Texas A and M. They want to
be good, so bad, so bad. We have talked about
the college football for this weekend. Doug and Virginia Tech
is not going to have the home game because of
the weather and NC State's not gonna have their game,
and North Carolina is not gonna have theirs. And also
Virginia is moving its home game to Nashville. And this
is coming out from Virginia Tech in East Carolina. VA

(02:00:56):
Tex says we were waiting until tomorrow before making a
determinate sation on the status of our home game Saturday,
waiting to see more information on the coming storm. Meanwhile,
the opponent East Carolina just said we're not going and
they informed Virginia Tech We're not gonna be there Saturday,
and we hope to reschedule as at a later date,

(02:01:16):
but we've got a storm coming to our area in
North Carolina as well. But the A d from Virginia
Tech says, we'll do what's best for us moving forward
as it relates to rescheduling this game with them, we
need understand the need for safety. We just felt that
tomorrow making a decision tomorrow would have been more responsible.
This all comes from last year Florida versus l s U.

(02:01:37):
But it's also a lot like me and my wife
and dinner plans with friends, you know, like we should
get an out of the dinner. How about like the
twenty second of October like, sure, sounds great. Then you
get to like the twenty October, like, you know, we
don't have a sitter. I don't know, let's do it
another time. This was clearly jumping the gun in in
Virginia text perspective, So I would not expect that game

(02:02:00):
to get rescheduled. In fact, as the a D put it,
we informed ECU of this multiple times. We can wait
till tomorrow. They didn't wait till tomorrow. They're just not
making the trade for Blacksburg, that's for sure. And the
Steelers have removed levy on Bell's name from their depth chart.
They do hold exclusive rights to enter into a contract
with him, there is no contract. He's not an employee
of the team. Levi On Bell is not on the

(02:02:22):
depth charts. And by the way, James Conner was great
levy on Bell's new name Baltimore. He who should not
be meant yeah until there's a pen to paper. One
other NFL item from Lamar Jackson, of course he got
to play. Is such a blowout for the Ravens over
the Bills over the weekend, Jackson says, the opponents never

(02:02:43):
know what's gonna happen. When I'm gonna be in there.
It keeps the defense guessing. His head coach has made
it clear though, that young Lamar Jackson needs to do
more than just keep him guessing. He needs to move
the bull quote. We wanted to establish him as a
threat quickly Sunday, not just as a possible threat. We
want Jackson to go out there, make plays, generate place
for the whole idea is to generate offense. Yeah, they

(02:03:05):
lined him up a bunch in the first half as
not a wide receiver, just not a quarterback. Don't call him,
don't call him a wide receiver. It does feel like
the Steelers in the Levan Bell kind of headed for
a divorce. The team likes James Conner, and James Conner,
as you pointed out, Steve was really really productive. The

(02:03:28):
issues weren't James Carner. By the way, Ben Roethlisberger apparently
banged and bruised and limited in practice somehow, somehow. Don't worry, guys,
I'm guessing Ben Roethlisberger will find a way to play miraculously.
Jerry Rice Tomorrow, Terry Bradshaw Tomorrow, It's Doug out Lip Show.
