(00:21):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What Up America, Doug
Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. I believe we're coming to
you from the most beautiful, gorgeous city in the world.
There you go, Southern California, Los Angeles. Hey, we got
a big football game. Not just tonight USC playing at

(00:43):
home against Wazoo rematch of last year's sc loss up
in the Polue, but Sunday charges Ams. No, no, I
didn't say raiders, and I know it's more of a
raider town really fast. And oh yeah, by the way,
the best rookie in the National Football League so far
plays in that game. Game and yet not being discussed
all part of the discussion today. Man, we got a

(01:04):
lot to get to. Uh. Michael Lombardi will join us
NFL insider and author of Gridiron Genius, which is available now,
we'll get his thoughts on last night, most notably Baker
Mayfield being put into the fire after Tyrod Taylor suffers
what we believe to be a concussion, and then of
course Sam Donald who through two picks they're late and

(01:27):
sealed the deal, so the Browns get their first win
since two thousands sixteen. Rick Bucko join us later on
the show from Bleacher Report would ask him if this
is just posturing that the Minnesota Timberwolves really uh really
don't intend tend to trade Jimmy Butler, or it's just
posturing and they're trying to drive up the price. We'll
get to that. Scott mcclewin for the Redskins GM will

(01:50):
join us. He also, by the way, told us that
if there's one player he would draft in last year's
NFL Draft, it would be Baker Mayfield. And Joel Clatt
will preview for us with Wisconsin Iowa great rivalry in
the Big Ten East, although the Big Ten East took
another big hit with Wisconsin losing at home. We got
TCU Texas this weekend. We got games School or Joe

(02:11):
Klatti was doing it. So we have a jam packed,
loaded show. There are some of you that are Browns
fans that want me to come on here and may
a copa. I guess I don't really know what I'm
supposed to make a copa four Like, this is what
happens when you say you want the Browns to lose.
You want the Browns to lose only because I don't
care about the Browns. I don't really care about the Jets, don't.

(02:35):
I just love futility streaks. I love when teams find
a way to lose. You like, no way they lose
this game, and then they do, and it happened forever
with the Browns. It happened this year with the Browns
first two games, and it almost happened last night. Let's
be honest. When when Hugh decides to punt the ball late, okay,
a field goal would give him a seven point lead

(02:55):
or fourth and one, Just get the damn first down,
run a little zone read, hey, give Baker Mayfield some options,
and Ronald's all you need one yard the game is over. Instead,
he punts it and you're like, oh boy. I mean
they've been panting to people hugging in the stands, and
all I can think of was all of these dudes
who thought the streak was over, crying because somehow Sam

(03:19):
Donald let him miraculous come back. It would be for
not Donald would throw it just kind of bizarre, throw
it up to Robby Anderson the interception, and that would
be with that. UM. Look, I don't think there's anyone
who will argue that Baker Mayfield is going to be
the starting quarterback, right, like good luck putting Tyrod Taylor,

(03:40):
who sucked who he has just not been good like?
Could they beat the Pittsburgh Dealers, Yeah, they probably could
have been the Pittsburgh Dealers. They should have beaten the
New Orleans Saints. They did not. They did not. Um
and he was awful last night. He was just awful.
And so Baker comes in and he lights a fire.

(04:01):
They win the game, the first win since December of
two thousand sixteen. And that is essentially that. I mean,
I take the National Guard to get Baker out of it.
Here's Hugh Jackson being wishy washy after the game. Obviously
I like to watch the tape. Obviously Baker did some
great things. I mean, again, we don't play until next Sunday.
We got some days. Let's not get into those debates. Tonight.

(04:24):
You know, obviously what he did tonight was outstanding. Uh
for the football team and force teammates and just the
way he competed. But again, I have to watch the
tape and uh, and we'll go from there. We're doing
the same thing we did with the John Gruden cut,
aren't we right? People said, oh, you have to watch tape. Oh, man, Hugh,
it's just he's just so it's such so lame. He said,

(04:46):
I have to watch the tape, but he obviously played great.
Just actually listened to the We did this exact same
thing with John Gruden. John Gruden said pass pass rushes
are hard to find. Great pass rush especially really hard
to find. And then he went into a further sentence
about you know, you've got to develop guys. College football
is just different from the NFL, and it takes time
to adjust. It takes and we have a couple of guys.

(05:08):
It was like a much more thoughtful answer, which is
the same thing is Hugh Jackson. But Banker is going
to be the guy. And part of this is he's
the number one overall pick. He was going to be
the guy. Regardless, this process got sped up and it
ends up being perfect, like the perfect team, the perfect time,
and you get the perfect amount of time for him
to prepare for a much more difficult schedule. But you know,

(05:28):
just because you're bad in your first game doesn't mean
you'll be great. And just because you're great in your
first game doesn't mean you'll be great. Is Marcus Mariotta awesome?
I don't know. His first game was against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Another one to remember. Match them up, match them up
with Jamis Winston right, and in that game, and remember

(05:49):
tamp Bay much like the Jets terrible and Marcus Mariota
four touchdowns, known receptions, si point seven passed rating, they
win forty two to four. Team You're like, wow, Tampa
made such a mistake. Not Tampa may have made a mistake.
They could. It's very possible that at the end of
his they picked up the fifth year option. At the

(06:10):
end of his fifth year, they may move on from
Jameis Winston. Should be pointing out that James Winston's coming
off statistically his best year of his career and Mariotta,
though his team went to the playoffs, Let's be honest,
they were so happy with how Mariota was doing they
fired the coaching staff. They backed their way into the
playoffs in a division to which Deshaun Watson got hurt,

(06:30):
um Andrew Luck was hurt, and the Jaguars tried to
make us believe that they liked Blake Bortles last year.
Like the Titans, they moon walked their way into the playoffs.
It's it's still yet to be determined. If Marcus Mariota
is good, is great, is bad? He's fine right now,
but if you take his first game and and and
if you don't believe me on the argument of the

(06:51):
first time you see somebody should not be the determinant
of whether or not they're great. Just look at Sam Donald.
Sam Donald Monday Night Football against the Detroit lines like, man,
is he awesome? Me? And cow heard like see hold
you so well? We had to remember about Baker Mayfield.
No one was saying Baker Mayfield sucked. People were saying

(07:12):
Josh Allen sucks. Okay, there was no one saying Baker
Mayfield sucked. But they said was Look, he's really developed
because he's played with two unbelievable offensive minds when he
played for Cliff uh At at Texas Tech, and then
the entire group, but especially Lincoln Riley. At Oklahoma, he
played for two of the best quarterback minds offensive minds

(07:35):
in college football. Plus he has a high football like you.
Plus he's played. He played as a freshman, started as
a sophomore, junior, senior at Oklahoma, played to college football playoffs,
was in three hot time Heisman Trophy finalists and one
the damn thing like He's played a ton of football,
super hight football, like you. Better arm than taste Keenum
in the same style, probably better arm than Menzel. Not

(07:58):
as good an athlete as a Russell Wilson, Probably not
as good an arm as Russell Wilson. But there's some
similarities there to where people wanted you to believe that
he was that guy. But the matchup was would you
rather have Sam Donald for the next ten years or
Baker Mayfield for the next ten years? And every GM
I've talked to, in most GM's in the nation football legue,

(08:18):
with the exception of Cleveland, said rather have Sam Donald.
It wasn't It wasn't papooing what Baker Mayfield had. So look,
if you're Cleveland, enjoy the win. Couldn't have happened to
a more deserving fan base, And it's pretty obvious they
have dudes in the defensive side of the ball. When

(08:40):
you drafted the top five every year for what seems
like the past fifteen years, Eventually you're gonna figure some
stuff out. Even the dysfunctional Browns organization that has fired
GM after GM and coach after coach and quarterback after quarterback.
Event it's like the Jaguars, right, Like the Jaguars are
good now play Mortals is played. His best game is probb.

(09:00):
But the truth is they're good. They're competitive because they've
drafted so high so many years. Eventually you figure it out.
Pass rush's dynamic. But if you want me to buy
in on Baker is better than Sam Donald because of
one half of football. I everyone knew the Jets sucked
their offensive lines bad. The Brown's defensive line is uh

(09:22):
is awesome. And oh yeah, by the way, everything you're
saying about Baker now, we said about Sam Donald week one,
and we had a whole game against Detroit Lions, who
knew he was coming as opposed to um as opposed
to the Jets who didn't know they were gonna see Baker.
So people will game plan the schedule get more difficult,

(09:45):
and only time will tell. It doesn't mean you didn't
get a good quarterback. I just don't believe you got
the best quarterback. Everything you saw from Baker Mayfield last
night was what we assumed you would see leadership, which
I taught He's not Manzel. Manzel was always about himself,

(10:06):
and some guys liked it and some guys did not. Baker,
guys loved at Oklahoma loved. Baker does have a very
good arm. Baker does have a tremendous football like you,
he does process things super quickly. The questions about him
are size, ultimately, arm strength, and bad weather, which is
coming in Cleveland, coming in the a f C North,

(10:28):
And time will tell as people adjust to what they're
doing and who Baker Mayfield is. But my desire to
see the Browns lose had nothing to do with Cleveland.
I could not possibly care any less. It was more
I love futility streaks and we almost saw it last night.
And I'm guessing if you search your heart, you're probably like, no,

(10:51):
I really want Cleveland to win. Nate, didn't you really
want to see him losing? You're like, oh, they always lose.
Kind of in that same way, which you like, you
want to see Notre Dame losing it. Notre Dame like
Vanderbilt last week, I can find a way to win,
like eight one. Notre Dame finds a way to win.
But they do all right, a lot to get to.
I mean, I'm I'm looking at some of these stats

(11:12):
from first starts. Andrew Luck one touchdown, three interceptions, completion percentage,
Carson Wench. It was okay. Remember they beat the Browns,
the terrible Browns team ten two touchdowns, don receptions. There
isn't necessarily a correlation. Deshaun Watson trashed by the Jacksonville

(11:35):
Jaguars last year, one touchdown, one reception, point four quarterback rating. Then,
if you remember, they adjusted the offense, made it more
college like, and all of a sudden he took off.
So I thought Mayfield was great. The energy was awesome.
He enjoyed the moment. Browns fans enjoyed the moment. They
drank up their bud light, and the Jets looked exactly

(11:58):
like I thought they would look. And I said, you
might think about sitting Sam Donald because he would be
under so much dress, so much pressure. But the Jets
have determined they've they've weighed that and determined, Hey, it's
better for him to take his licks this year. He's
gonna take a lot of them, all right. Michael Lombardi
joins us. Up coming, next, we'll get his thoughts on Mayfield,
his thoughts on Donald and there's a quarterback matchup this

(12:22):
weekend in Houston, Deshaun Watson and the Texans O and two,
what happens if they're owing three? And why aren't the
New York Giants? Better find out next in The Doug

Red Sox. Then to the A L. East Yankee Stadium
last night. Uh, it actually will bring us back to

(13:05):
why the Warriors winning seventy three games a couple of
years ago? Does it actually matter? I'll explain upcoming. Let's
welcome in Michael Lombardi, former gentleal manager in the NAH
Football League. Pick up his new book. It's called Gridiron Genius,
A master class and winning championships and building dynasties in
the NFL. It's on sale now wherever you purchase new books. Michael,

(13:27):
let's let's start with Baker Mayfield. He sets the world
on fire coming in replacing Tyrod Taylor. How close to
your expectations were was his play? You know? I thought
he looked sensational. I I thought it was remarkable, especially
considering the fact Doug that on Thursday, when you play
a Thursday game, there's no practice, there's walk cruis and
so as you're the backup quarterback, you're gotta take a

(13:49):
lot of mental reps and you've got to take a
lot of time to prepare yourself. And his preparation was
really very good. And now, look, I think the Jets
were tired in the second half. There was no pass rush.
Taylor got concussed in the first half because there was
so much pressure. You couldn't find that pressure in the
second half, partly because Mayfield got rid of the ball quickly.
He was accurate. But I think he's done a good

(14:09):
enough job now the challenge is going to be people
know he's going to be in the game, They're going
to study him, they're gonna game plan against him. It
will be a little different. Michael Lombardi joining us in
the Doug Gotlips Show. Sam Donald was under that same
site sort of duress for the most part. I mean
that that Cleveland defensive front is very, very athletic, and

(14:30):
they got after him. Has he regressed after that his
initial solid start against the Lions. No, Look, I think
the problem that Sam Donald has is the Jets rushing
offense on first down has been atrocious. You know, the
average to going into that game, they were averaging two
point eight yards per on first down. They don't have
good first down passes. They haven't been able to keep

(14:50):
him off balance. They have the most zero to two
yard runs in the NFL. So when you hear have
a lot of negative plays, and if you go to
look at through Sam's third and tens, you know, and
after week three, I'm sure he's gonna be leading the
league in too many third and tens. That's not a
good recipe for quarterback, especially a young quarterback. So they
gotta figure it out. They got to get back to
you know where they can get some good throws on

(15:12):
first down. I mean Jared goth averages over eleven yards
throwing the ball in first down. Now, the Jets don't
have the offense that the Rams have in terms of
their skill, but you can make the game a little
simpler for for Donald and I think that's what they
need to do. Michael Lombardi joining us on the Doug
Ot Lip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. What's wrong
with the Houston Texans? Well, you know, you talk about

(15:35):
the team that leads the league and shooting themselves in
the foot to hear the Houston Texans. I mean it's
first and twenty, it's first and fifteen. They can't get
anything going. They can't do anything really productively, false starts,
too many penalties, they don't operate on first down. I mean,
this game here in Houston versus New York, it should
be the battle of who's the worst team on first down?

(15:55):
Because the New York Giants they draft Barkley in the
first round. There throw in the first half. Run Barkley
has got eleven runs where he's gotten less than two
yards and carry He's carried the ball twelve times. On
first down, he's average twenty He's got twenty six yards.
The Giants can't get a running game going, and Houston
is the same way. They can't get anything going. They

(16:16):
shoot themselves in the foot, and they've been inconsistent. They
really let a game last week in Tennessee slip away
from They were the better team. They didn't get a
stop when they needed it with their defense in the
fourth quarter, and I think this week they'll be much better.
Will Fuller helps Deshaun Watson his speed outside. Eli Apple
is not gonna play, Olivier Vernon is not gonna play.
I think that will help the Houston offense. They need

(16:38):
to get things going. They need to buckle down and
get more attention to detail. Too many penalties, too many mistakes.
I I obviously agree. What about the Seahawks. They return
home licking their wounds against the Cowboys team. They did
a good job defensively, had on a big play, explosive
player early and then just kind of hung on for
dear life against that that dysfunctional offensive unit for the Giants,

(16:59):
Cowboys welcoming Seahawks and Seahawks and must win territory. What
are your thoughts in the Seahawks in their home opener. Well,
look when you know see everybody talks about Seattle being
a home field advantage. There were four and four last year.
But the one thing I know for being in the
league as long as I have, the way you went
on the road is through explosive plays. You're not going
to go up there and if you get twelve drives
in a game and you're gonna score twenty eight points,
you score on four of those drives, Right, You've gotta

(17:21):
make big plays. And the Cowboys are in capable making
big plays. So far this year, they're last in the league.
I only made two plays over twenty five yards, So
where are the big plays going to go? I think
it's almost coaching malpractice that Zeke Elliot's got three yards
of carry per reception. That can't happen. This is one
of the best run runners in the league. It's one
of the best catchers in the league. The guy can

(17:42):
do more in the passing game, and the Cowboys have
to find a way to exploit it. I think Seattle,
I think this is a classic Russell Wilson comes back,
plays much better and takes advantage of the Cowboys playing
at home, the Chargers take on the Rams. The Rams
have looked every bit the dominant team people expect him
to be. Should be pointed out, it's against the Raiders,
who are in somewhat of a rebuild and uh and

(18:04):
the Cardinals, who just flat out stink right now, the
Chargers haven't looked as good without Joey Bosi you're defensing,
but they may have the best rookie in football. And
Derwin James, who's been outstanding. He's don't even know what
he's doing. What are your thoughts in the Battle of
l A at the Coliseum this Sunday. Well, as for
as much as the Rams haven't played great competition, the
Chargers haven't played great defenses. I mean, Ken City's defense

(18:25):
flat out stinks. They've given up over five hundred yards
They've given up five hundred yards or more yards after
the catch when receivers catch the ball. So the Chargers
offense have not faced anyone of stellar abilities. So this
will be the best defense they've played all season. That
being said, the Rams I think are just starting to
get into high gear. They didn't practice, they didn't play
in the preseason, and I think each week you can

(18:47):
start to see the Rams offensive line becoming better. You
can see the Rams. I think the Rams coach receivers
better than any team in the league. Their attention to
details really good. They get open, they understand how to
attack coverages. I think this is a game where some
man he wants to be declared the King of l
a and I think the Rams are by far the
better teams. I think I think they are as well.
At this point in the season. Bengals are two and

(19:08):
oh one on the road against the Colts come from
behind win and one where they led and held up
a comeback to the to the Ravens. They got an
extra little time to prepare against the Carolina Panthers. Are
the Bengals for real? Uh? Look, I think it's gonna
be a hard game for the Bengals because without Joe
Mixon they can't attack the Panthers the way you need to.

(19:28):
Last week at Lanta, around the ball on him and
Atlanta did a good job of running the ball. If
this becomes an all pass game for Andy Dalton, he'll
make a mistake and turn the thing over. You gotta
be able to have some balance. I'm not saying you've
got to be able to run it fifty times in
the game. No, but you have to have balance. This
can't be a fifty pass game. And if it is,
the Panthers take advantage. The Panthers struggle in the secondary.
Badberry is their best corner where they're gonna match up.

(19:49):
How they're gonna match up on A J. Green, John
Ross and Tyler Boyd in the slot. That's gonna be fascinating.
Cam Newton to me, hasn't been very good on third down.
He's hasn't conver the third and six all season. And
when you blitz Cam this year and he's quarterback ratings.
So I think this is a really good game. I
think this might be one of the best games on
the docket. I like Carolina to here only because without mixing,

(20:12):
I'm not sure the Bengals will be able to control
the pace of the game. Michael Lombardi joining us in
the Doug Gottlip Show, former GM in the National Football League,
pick up his book, Gridiron Genius, A master Class and
Winning Championships and Building Dynasties in the National Football League.
Adam Gaze's script looks really good, but when they go
off script, suddenly they just seem to be okay offensively

(20:35):
Jon Gruden's team. I mean the improvement Derek Carr week
one a week two was amazing. Some of that is
Gruden scripting. They found a way, though, to continue to
lose football games. This game is in Miami, um uh,
second straight long road trip for the Oakland Raiders. What
are your thoughts on the legitimacy of the two and
oh Miami Dolphins. Well, look the Raiders since two thousand

(20:57):
or two and six when they traveled to South Florida. Now,
they won one game they won their last year, but
that game was in December, so it's a little bit misleading.
When you with those black jerseys on, the heat and
humidity can wear you down. What I like about Miami's
team so far this season is they played really good
run defense. They make the game one dimensional, and they've
done a great job of getting the lead. Miami's defense
has to play from in front. They're not a big

(21:18):
physical team, and they have to be able to rely
on the pass rush, which is what they're very good at,
to win the game. And you can only really start
rushing when you play from in front, and that's what
Miami has done. Miami has done everything to not lose
the game. They haven't done anything to win the game.
They just haven't done anything to lose the game. I
like Oakland. I think Oakland played really good in Denver.
I thought, as you said, car got much better. He

(21:40):
got the ball outside. And if they protect, If Oakland
can protect, and they can play well through the heat
and humidity early in the game and play from in
front and force Tannehill to have to participate in the game.
Make Keith throws on third down. That's not for tannehill strength.
He fumbles the ball too much in the pocket. He
at two fumbles last week against the Jets. One of
them was on the ten yard line of the Jets
turn it over the very next place. So Miami's two

(22:02):
and no, I'm not sure Miami's a really good team.
I like Oakland in this game because I think Oakland
will throw the ball and get the lead and play
from in front. I kind of feel like one of
the most more underrated teams to San Francisco forty Niners. Uh,
you know, they had three big drops against the Vikings,
and so that score was not necessarily indicative of how
close those two teams are. That's in Minnesota first week

(22:23):
of the season, and everybody thinks the Vikings are one
of the most talented teams in the National Football League.
And then you know last week the final score against
the Lions is a lot closer than that actual game
was thirty thirteen in the fourth quarter. How do you
think they fare against that offense heavy Kansas City Chiefs team. Well,
I think Jimmy Garoppolo has gotta play much better. I mean,
I love Jimmy Garoppolo's game, but I think he's gonna

(22:45):
be more accurate. He can't hold the ball. He's got
to get rid of it. I think they miss Marquis
Goodwin very much because he's hold the ball too much.
They've got to get it out. I think Kyle Shanahan
will do a great job. They will move the ball
in Kansas City. Kansas City strength of their defense and
so far they've forced eight punch a seven punts this
year is the fact that they've been able to win
on third down. They only allow on third downs, so

(23:06):
they're able to get off the field. They give up
a ton of yards, but if they can get it
the third down, which they don't often do, they can
get off the field. Now offensively, The Niners have got
their handsful. They can't do what Pittsburgh did last week
and only force five third downs Kansas City, and five
third downs means you're gonna score. They're playing Canadian football.
They're converting in two downs. You gotta force Patrick Mahomes
that thirteen, fourteen or fifteen third downs so that you

(23:28):
can see can he make tight throws in the tight
windows against tight coverage. Let's see how that plays out.
And then their special teams in Cantony is so good.
I think this could be a fast track a b
a type of game, moving the ball up and down
the field. The Niners gotta handle the crowd noise, they
can't get negative situations, and if Garoppolo can play better,
I think they'll hang in the game. The Patriots to
take it on the lines. The Patriots getting lit up

(23:50):
by Blake Borrows. They want to make Blake Borls beat him,
and he did just that. They struggled in man coverage
against the Jaguars. How much of this is personnel issues
and how much of it is just Hey, it's earlier
in the season. The Patriots trying to figure it out. Well,
they gotta get a pastors. Look, the Jaguars lost their
left tackle, Cam Robinson. He got hurt early in the game.
Josh Wells from James Madison, a rookie free agent not

(24:10):
a rookie, went in the game and played and and
Bortles had all day to throw and he had time
to throw against the Really, I would not call the
Jacksonville Jaguars receiver's top shelf. I think that that's why
people are concerned about the Patriots on defense. They're slow
for net. Not playing last week actually help Jacksonville because
it forced Jacksonville to play a style of a game

(24:31):
that gives the Patriots the most trouble. And because of that,
it's it went into the weakness. Same thing with Detroy.
If Detroy comes out and tries to run the ball
with blunt or tries to establish the run, they're gonna
fall behind the Patriots. What they need to do is
spray the ball around, create the matchups, make the Patriots
defend the width of the field and louse Matthew Stafford's

(24:51):
arm and run the ball a little bit just to
keep the team off balance. I think the Patriots are
gonna struggle. I think this will be a higher scoring
game than most people think. I think it'll be a
closer game than most people think. Alex Smith has twenty
four times he's checked down to a running back. That
that's most in the National Football League. They welcome in
the Packers. He hasn't looked terribly comfortable in Jay Gruden's offense.

(25:13):
Is this is this just he needs more snaps, needs
more time, or is this Alex Smith going back to
his default, which is captain checkdown. Well, I think it's
you know, when a quarterback is quick to throw the checkdown,
it's because he doesn't see guy open, he doesn't see color,
he doesn't see what he likes. And I think that's
why the Redskins had assigned two receivers they signed Perriman
and Michael Floyd this week, because the receiver corps hurt
and beat up. They're not quite good there. And so look,

(25:36):
Smith likes to checkdown. He's taken it too much. But
last year we saw him throw it down the field,
and I think that's been the problem. The Redskins are
to me, the ultimate front running team in the NFL.
They'll play at the level of competition. This is a
game that you know they they haven't been able to
sell out a game. I mean, they broke their salad
streak last week. There were very few people in the
stands for FedEx Field at eighty five thousand. I think

(25:57):
it was half filled. This game will generate some juice.
I think that juice will help the Redskins. I think
that juice will help help Washington's offense. And when you
play against Green Bay, I mean last week, Green based
defense got tired, which is fascinating. I mean, this is
one of the most remarkable stats I've seen. Last week,
Green Based Defense played two minutes and twenty seven seconds
in the fourth quarter and gave up twenty two points.

(26:18):
That's hard to do. Yeah, that is that is hard
to do. Andrew Luck appears to be improving. They did
beat those same Redskins on the road. The child to
Philadelphia take on the Eagles that have to be energized
by Carson Wentz returning. What's your evaluation of Andrew Luck
at this point. I think Andrew has been smart with
the ball. I think they I think the Colts have
done a great job protecting Luck for a backup line.

(26:40):
They don't have Costanza. There's the normal left tackle. They're
trying to piece together their offensive line, and I think
Luck's gotten rid of the ball. T Y Hilton has
been really good, and the two backs Hines and Mac
have been effective. Last week, Matt came back and played
and that helped them. So I think that I think
Frank Riik has done a nice job with the offense
and keeping the thing in rhythm and keeping the game close. Look,
we know the Colts have been bad in the fourth quarter.

(27:01):
We know the Colts have blown leads. Last year, they
played effectively for about fifty two minutes, but the last
eight minutes of the game they fell apart. Last week,
they didn't in Washington. That's going to require them to
play their best football. Because the Eagles win with their
defensive front. The Eagles win rush in the pastor the
Eagles don't win in coverage. The Eagles win with creating
turnovers with the defensive line. And this is gonna be

(27:22):
a huge challenge for the Colts offensive line. Could not
possibly agree with you more. Broncos are two and oh,
but they you know, they were outplayed for most of
the game by the Raiders. Tooth and nail at home
against the Seahawks. I haven't been crazily impressed, but you
watch football at a completely different level. The Broncos really
any good. Look, the Broncos are the greatest teas team

(27:43):
in September of all time. They're fifteen and one in
the first two weeks in September. They League office, for
some reason, loves to have Denver play at home to
get him off to a quick start. I think the
league wants Denver to be good because it helps their
TV rais. I'm not sure, but I've never seen the
team have more home games in September than Denver, and
last year they went three and one, and they went
five and eleven for the rest of the season. Now, conversely,

(28:04):
Denvers are really bad, a really bad road team. They
were one in seven last year. That's why they finished
five and eleven. Baltimore is the opposite. Baltimore is a
bad road team but plays really good. So this game
is really good home team playing bad road team. And
what gives you some hope if you're Baltimore is the
fact that your defense has got time to rest and
Joe Flacco needs to figure out how to convert a

(28:25):
third down against the ball against the Denver Broncos. Denver
has not allowed a third down conversion in the red
zone all seasons, so they're gonna have to figure that
out and do that. But I think Baltimore is the
better team here. I'm with you. I'm not sold on Denver.
I'm not buying their two and oh record. I think
they were lucky to win last week. I think case
Keenum has just been an average quarterback. He's won nine
games in his career on the road, five of them

(28:47):
happened last year. I think it'll be hard for him
to win in Baltimore. Michael Lombardi just great stuff. You
want even more intelligent football, then pick up Gridiron Genius,
a masterclass and winning championships and building dynasty's in the NFL.
It's on sale now wherever you pick up your your books.
Thanks so much, Michael. Let's get you to Dan buy
Er find out what else is going on the world sports. Dan. Yeah,

(29:07):
I agree. I think Denverse the worst to an old
team that we've seen in a long time. I'm with
you guys on that one, alright. Some other NFL news
to talk about Packers and Aaron Rodgers going to Washington.
You guys talked about that matchup Green Bay officially listing
quarterback Aaron Rodgers is questionable for that game because of
his knee injury. Titans and Jaguars in an ANFC South tilt.
Titans quarterback Marcus Mariotta, he's listed as questionable, will be

(29:30):
a game time decision because of his elbow injury. Jaguars
running back Leonard four Nett and corner Jalen Ramsey considered
questionable for the game as well. Vikings ruled out Dalvin
Cook for Sunday's game against Buffalo because of a hamstring injury.
Remember they've got a short week facing the Rams coming
up in week four on Thursday. Eagles won't have running
backs j Ji or Darren Sprowls for their Week three
matchup against the Colts. The Cubs play shortstop Edison Russell

(29:53):
on leave after allegations he abused his ex wife, Melissa.
Russell claimed she suffered emotional and physical abuse during their
two year marriage. And White Sox playing at the top
of the hour, Rangers fire manager Jeff Banister today after
her almost four years on the job, the last two
being losing seasons. Good guy, good baseball guy. That sucks.
I mean, their their rosters not took a turn for
the worst anyway, I'm sorry, No, that's all right. Tiger

(30:14):
Woods one shot back at the Tour Championship. He's at
six under part through seven holes on his second round,
one shot back of Ricky Fowler. How much energy is
there at the Remember Ricky wanted a couple of years ago.
That's his biggest win of his career. But how much
juice is there on a Friday at the tournament with
with Tiger one shot off the league? You know, there's

(30:35):
it's it's unique and we'll probably get to this is
just a little bit. But because of the limited field,
with the Ryder Cup on the horizon, it is a
unique field. Plus Doug and this has changed with the
PGA Tour. The PGA Tour hated having someone win the
Tour Championship and then someone else winning the FedEx Cup.
You'd have two different winners essentially celebrating. So this is

(30:55):
gonna be the last time we're gonna see this because
they're gonna go to a different format next year. So
it's a very odd week. Usually at the you know
a lot of times, so maybe the end of the
season it ends on a high note. This is so
unique because you got Ryder Cup next week. You got
a limited field, You've got a unique format. So it's
it's just, uh, it's different. It's very different. It is very,

(31:16):
very different. Think so much, Dan Doug Gotli show, Fox
Sports Radio. Dan obviously cheering. He's a huge Brewer fan
growing up in the state of Wisconsin. Brewers, Seahawks. We've
discussed that in the past. The Red Sox are not
It does not appear that they will catch. They will
win the most games in the history of baseball. It's
a hundred and sixteen wins the Cubs and the two

(31:39):
thousand and one Seattle Mariners. Of course, the Mariners didn't
even get to a World Series that year with with
lu Pinellas as their skipper. But the point is, while
people were freaking out about it, this is really this.
I know that we want to think that Kevin Durant
joined the greatest team of all time, but he joined
the seventy three win team when half the league was

(32:01):
tanking and even some of the best teams weren't really
going for it late in the year, and the Warriors were.
They were going for the all time record. That's why
they're playing their best players in the fourth quarter when
others were sitting there, the Warriors year before it sat there. Guys,
they could have got more wins. Ear four. Let let
me help you make my point. Okay, Red Sox have
a hundred and four wins and we're a hundred and

(32:24):
fifty three games into the season. So the likely that
is they'll end up with a hundred and ten wins.
That's a lot lot. The Yankees, by the way, have
ninety three wins. They do not have the second most
wins in the American League. That's the Houston Astros. The
A's have ninety two wins. Oh yeah, and the Tampa

(32:46):
Bay Rays. You're like, how good are they? Eighty five
and sixty seven. Tampa is not gonna make the playoffs.
They're gonna win over ninety games. How is this possible?
Mariners could also win ninety games this year? They probably will.
We mentioned the Mariners sixty four and eighty eight. That's
a record of The Orioles are forty four and one

(33:08):
oh eight. They are fifty nine and a half games back.
The Royal same thing dumped a bunch of salaries after
winning a World Series and get into the playoffs. They
are fifty two and one oh one the Marlins. We
know they're trying to be bad. Fifty nine wins, Padres.
Padres are playing for the year after next, best farm
system in baseball. Hope is very much on the horizon.

(33:30):
But they've won sixty one games for a reason. Read
same thing, sixty six wins. The point is that they
there are. It's it's a it's a microcosm of of
the economy, right, no middle class. There's nobody in the
middle in sports anymore. You either go for it or
you tank, and anything less you end up as the Angels.
We got the best player in baseball and then you

(33:52):
got the most overpaid former best player in baseball and
a ton of other injuries. I'm not trying to take
away from what the Red Sox are doing. I'm trying
to give context to it in that sports has changed.
Teams at the bottom have decided, who cares what our
record is, Let's get really bad, get good draft picks,
develop our younger players. Don't worry about winning individual games.

(34:14):
It's it that nobody cares if you win seventy or
win fifty. They only care if you will ultimately get
to the playoffs. Coming up next, will we see another
rookie quarterback make his debut this weekend. Next be sure
to catch live editions of The Doug god Leaps Show
week days in noon eastern three pm Pacific. Previously on

(34:34):
The Doug god Leap Show, Edward or a legendary NFL insider.
It's gonna be a really fascinating to see what the
ultimate resolution is was Bell and what the Stevens reaction
will be if they wind up trading him, which ultimately
that may be the best potential solution for the Steelers.
Will we coop something for this great player? What's the
likelihood do you think that happened? Oh? I think there's

(34:55):
every possibility that it happens. I mean, at some point
to especially if the Steelers continue to lose, they're going
to recognize that this season is essentially a throwaway for
them and that Bell is not going to come back
and play for them under almost any circumstances next year.
They've already determined that they can't afford to sign him
to a long term deal, and so why not then
get something of value in return from a team that

(35:16):
he's a running back? Like the forty Niners lost their
starting running back right before the season, but they have
to leave the restaurant football right now. So maybe if
the Indianapolis Gold if they can, you know, hang in
there in the a f C South. If you missed

do you got? Damn the game today? Doug is psychic.
I played psychic last night on Twitter. Twenty six years
to the day yesterday was when five made his debut,

(36:23):
taking over for an injured. Don mccowski, I said, yeah, interesting,
Baker Mayfield's coming into the game. I made it during
the game last night. Yes, you can see it at
Dan Buyer on Fox. If you want to find other
awful tweets. Uh, let's get people forget the magic Man, right,
Don mccowsky. But he also was like one of those

(36:46):
one of those got credit for putting out the fire
that he started sort of quarterback right and yeah, and
it shows you how bad the Packers were that they
were happy with an eight and eight, nine and seven season,
like Forest Creig, I mean they were bad. They were bad. Yeah,
So mccow's he took him to that level, and then
Brett Farve took him to another level. Tyrod Taylor was
that it was at another level last night, psychic. Does

(37:08):
Tyrod Taylor surveys a starting quarterback anywhere else in the
NFL for the rest of his career. He will start
a game, but he will not be the starting quarterback.
Does that make sense? Yes? Okay, I said this yesterday.
This last time he'll be listed as QB one doesn't
mean he doesn't have a long career still ahead of him.
But this is that was That's the that's it you.
I mean he had a chance. People think the Browns

(37:29):
are actually decent, could have won the last two games
that they had a field goal kicker. But he also
did not play particularly well. I do not believe he's
a starting quarterback, but he will start football games later
on his career. Okay, we've seen Josh Allen, we saw
Baker Mayfield last night. We know we've seen Sam Darnald,
then a little bit of Lamar Jackson. So, psychic, is
this the week the Cardinals played Josh Rosen? The answers, Yes, Yes,

(37:52):
this is the week they played Josh Rosen. It's not
just that everyone else is playing. It's that Sam Bradford
is not playing well. You wanna talk about check down
Charlie and having no guts, no nuts to step up
in the pocket and throw the ball downfield. There'll be
some frustration. They're not for David Johnson, who's getting all
these checkdowns, but to fits in some of their wide receivers.
I would say, yes, this is this is the week

(38:13):
we'll see him. Speaking of frustration, psychic, do the Steelers
try to force the ball to Antonio Brown in their
Monday night game against the Buccaneers following is frustrating week. Um,
I don't think that. I mean, then they throw it
to him thirteen times last week. It's really if if
if they if they do so, it's just gonna because

(38:35):
that's what they do. Uh So, No, I don't think
they're gonna pacify him by forcing the ball. I think
that happens because he's that good. Okay, psychic. Do you
see any team signing Colin Kaepernick, like his attorney hinted
at earlier this week, I do not. You know what
the Patriots don't like. The Patriots don't like people sharing
their business. They really don't like people sharing their business.
I think I was a Mark Garrig goes uh letting

(38:56):
the cat out of the bag. Yeah, I don't. I
don't love it. I would say no college football tonight.
Let's touch on maybe a couple of themes. F AU
takes on U c F. Will Wayne Kiffin be a
head coach again for a Power of five school? The
answer is no. There's some other stuff there with Lane Kiffin. Um,
in addition to the how it's gone bad and he's
been fired. Now look Florida Atlantic, I mean you want

(39:18):
to have have at different levels of college football. Annihilated by Oklahoma.
But they turn around beat air Force and then they
beat uh Bethune Cookman who picked up it didn't be
in Bethune Cookman playing like Nebraska pick up another game
eight grand or something like that. Um, they'll get annihilated here.
One of the one of the best, like pure kind
of college players that might be too small to make

(39:38):
it in the Nation Football League. You might well win
the Heisman, might not. I don't know. Uh, if you
haven't seen Mackenzie Milton play, you will really enjoy yourself.
He is incredibly dynamic. You CEF is that much better
I believe than uh than Florida Florida Atlantic. I don't
think that Lane Kiffin is a is a power five
head coach in the near future. All right, well you

(39:59):
might uh at USC taking on Washington State tonight at
the Coliseum. Is Clay Hilton psychic the USC coach for
the long term? What's term? Let's just say in three years, yes, yes,
he will be. Look Clay Hilton. He won the Pack
twelve in the last two years. He's got a quarterback who,
though he'd be an old senior, could be a senior

(40:20):
in high school. Got some dynamic freshman starting with the quarterback.
I think he'll be fine. Yes, he'll be the long term.
Quote coach, This is game time on the Duck Gottlieb Show.
All right, there's a lot of things going on in sports,
right It's end of baseball season, end of golf season,
the beginning of fall. Humidity's cut. But I'll tell you

(40:43):
what this weekend absolutely is exposure weekend. We'll explain next
in the Doug Gotliep Show. Fox Sports Radio has the

to you from the city of Los Angeles, California. Man,
we got great sports. The squeaky in l A Dodgers
look like they're gonna close out their six consecutive NL
West Crown. I'm not even a Dodger fan. I'm not
even mad. It's impressed. Rams, Chargers, s C, Washington State,

(41:32):
all same stadium. You could like camp out. There are
people that camp out. They're called bums at the Colosseum.
Do we still call them bums. No, no, we don't
call them bums anymore. We call them homeless people. Right.
Stewardesses are now flight attendants. All actors and actresses are
now actors. And person without home that sleeps and sometimes

(41:54):
urinates in a place that you like to go to
is no longer a bum. They are a homeless person. Well,
this is one of those weekends to which, if you're
a homeless person, could be a good spot camp out,
camping trip. L A Coliseum. Huh huh? Is there a
soccer game over at the new stadium to on Saturday? Ramos,
I'm not sure you have you been in there yet.

(42:14):
I've seen it from afar. It is very cool. Looks
looks very very very cool. For those of you don't
know what you're talking about we're talking aboutcause we're in
l A and you're not. It's okay, Um, don't worry.
We're paying through the nose to be here, fighting through
traffic to be here. I love it, but I'm from here,
but I totally get if you love where you are.
And congrats to the Browns, Like there is something very
cool about Ohio. You're like people moving out of the

(42:39):
rest belt but following Ohio. Awesome football still matter matters
in Ohio. UM thirteen Division one schools in Ohio could
basketball in Ohio. And you don't have a last place
team in the NFL anymore. You know he's in the
last place in the a f C North. Your Pittsburgh
Steelers take a snapshot. Doesn't happen often. Steelers in the

(43:00):
last place thanks to the Browns getting the first win
in uh since December of two thousand sixteen. But you
know what this weekend is. No, it's not the Browns
finally win a game weekend. I guess it could be.
This weekend to me is exposure weekend. And by exposure,

(43:22):
I don't mean you pay two dollars, you go to
a camp and some coach sees you're not that type
of exposure, and I don't mean full frontal exposure. Missouri
taken on Georgia. This feels like Missouri getting exposed in
the SEC. We've seen this before, Like you go back,
even when Mark Rick was at Georgia, Missouri went to

(43:42):
an SEC championship game. Georgia came in like a real
power in the SEC comes in and just mush is
three and oh Missouri Nebraska likely to be oh in
three at the end of this weekend if you had
oh and three. First of all, almost impossible to take
that bet because well, they weren't supposed to play Michigan

(44:05):
and the third game the first game was canceled. Now
all of a sudden they'll play but then Bethune cook
and pick up a win at the end of the year.
Expose your weekend. I really feel like that's what That's
what this weekend could be termed um exposure weekend. TCU
taking on Texas feels like Texas is gonna get exposed.

(44:27):
I know they. I know Texas beat USC and TCU
had a lead against Ohio State in the third quarter
and gets beat for you to But TCU is still
a good chunk ahead of Texas as a football program.
And I think the same thing is true in National
Football League. I do the same thing is true in

(44:51):
nash Football League. The Denver Broncos are two and oh
uh two and oh Denver puffing out their chess. Say
we went on god case Keenum problem solved. The Raiders
absolutely gave away that game last week, completely gave it away.
And the week before you needed Russell Wilson to spin

(45:12):
right into Von Miller in order to lose to the
Seahawks at home. There is no altitude, there is no
quick get off because you're playing on the road and
the Ravens are a good football team that has had
extra rest. This feels like the beginning of the Denver
Broncos getting a bit exposed. I think the Giants will

(45:34):
get exposed against the Houston Texans. Granted on the road,
maybe not maybe not fair. Hey look at their look
at their schedule. You open up with the Jags and
you gotta go to Dallas then to Houston. Terrible schedule
when you have a new coach and you've got a
new offensive line. But at some point we realize who
you really are. So I look at this weekend and

(45:54):
I think this is exploit. Once you get three four
weeks in, you gotta kind of figure out what's what
quarter pole you got injury? Notwithstanding you absolutely know, but
three four weeks into college football, three weeks in the NFL,
at some point you're gonna get exposed. And I even

(46:15):
think the Miami Dolphins are in danger of that with
the Raiders coming in. People look at the Raiders record,
You're like, man, the Raiders are owing two. They're going
on the road. The Raiders play the Rams, who are awesome,
lead at halftime, and it didn't play well. But the
Rams are just that, they're really, really really good. Rams

(46:36):
are front loaded. They're gonna have contract situations in the future,
but as of now, like Rams are good Man Todd Gurley,
legit defensive line, legit offensive line coming together and healthy.
And the Raiders took a had a dramatic improvement. Like
if your final score watching you're like, oh, the Raiders

(46:58):
lost again. If you watched that game, Raiders were up,
driving down the field and then just a stupid penalty
takes them away from a sure fire win, whether you
don't they don't get lined up right, don't get up
and lined up right, and Jared Cook, who has been
outstanding for them, as what I believe was a procedure penalty,

(47:19):
it sets them back on second down and they have
to punt and the Broncos find a way. But that's
an altitude win. That's a late game comeback, but that's
not truly indicative of who they are. This is exposure weekend.
Some of those records are puffed up. Some of those

(47:40):
records are inflated or deflated based upon schedules, youth, early
season injuries, early season penalties, early season suspensions. Anyway, you
guys see the Stormy Daniel story. It feels like a
Clay Travis story, doesn't it. All Right, I'll bite stuck
the show. Fox Sports Radio. We've got a great hour

(48:02):
for you. Rick Buker's gonna join us. Rick Pukers join us.
Text toy, Yeah, Buker from Bleach Report. We'll ask him. Um,
the Minnesota Timberwolves letting out there. Hey, we're not trading
Jimmy Butler now holding on to him even though he
met with team officials and said I wanted to be traded.
We'll see how that one ends. We know how it
usually ends. Is his posturing or is it really gonna

(48:23):
really hold on to him in the last year of
his deal or to the trade deadlines? He all works.
But there's this, there's a story that's out that Stormy
Daniels claims that Ben Roethlisberger asked her for a kiss
and then hung around the room. This is after the
night which she first met the president now President of
the United States, Donald Trump, and spent let's just say

(48:44):
spent the night in an effort to be is as
uh reasonable as spent the night. So there's a bunch
of things that go into this. Right, this was out
of Lake Tahoe, which is the same I think it's
the same week in and the same it's definitely the
same location where Ben was accused of sexual misconduct. Ben

(49:07):
was prowling that weekend, but he couldn't get a good
night kiss from Stormy Danielson and Donald Trump closed the deal.
Just I just that's how the story reads. That not
how the story reads to you. That is, that is
one of those stories to which that which will never
be discussed during an NFL game, Like, no one's gonna
touch that one, right, we love it on Internet, we'll

(49:27):
love it on on Reddit, We'll love it texting with
our friends, but it will never be discussed on a
Fox broadcast, the CBS broadcast and ESPR. Nobody's ever touching
that one. But man, is he gonna hear it in
the locker room from his voice? Right see, you want
to give you kids good night. Would have been better

(49:48):
if there was a handshake story. I offered to shake
his hand. Man, we have a a lot of football to
get to my picks. Are coming. My NFL picks route
standing last weekend. My college picks not so much. I
promised to bounce back. I'm feeling good, um and I'm
I'm hinting at some of my picks with the bat
with the exposure weekend. I think some of these teams
and their image has been massively inflated based upon their

(50:10):
early season schedule in some early season luck coming up next, Dude,
the Timberwolves really want to trade Jimmy Butler or our
reports true they want to hold onto him. Plus uh,
Elton brand is now a general manager for the Philadelphia
seventies Sixers. Didn't you just get downe playing at Duke like?

(50:32):
Didn't have been again? Did he agree to terms with
the Clippers short lived before taking the Sixers? You got
to know about the NBA to remember that one. That's
upcoming next On The Doug Gotlap Show Fox Sports Radio.

watching the replay of last night, what was like Aiah
Crowel doing what was what are you doing? Scoring a
touchdown and wiping your bottom with the ball, Like, what
are you doing? Like you had an all week to
think of a touchdown celebration, that's what you came up with.
If afterwards you're like, yeah, you know, I kind of
choked on that, Yeah, kind of choked on it. Also

(51:41):
a little Philly special run by the Cleveland Browns. So look,
I'm not saying Cleveland's I've I've thought Cleveland had a
good roster, right, They've obviously got a got some talent
on that roster. But that was one of those perfect,
perfectly aligned setups. You don't know, Bakers coming into play

(52:02):
Tyrod is awful, but it's the Jets. The Jets who, sorry,
I do have the hiccups to do, in fact, have

(53:08):
get to Rick Buker from Bleacher Report as the Jimmy
Butler circus continues on UH Bugle. Let's let's start with
the reason. The real reason Jimmy Butler wants out of
Minnesota is what he wants to be in a bigger market.
He wants to be the central piece to the team.

(53:29):
And he's not particularly fond, which may surprise people because
they credit Tom Thibodeau with creating UH. Jimmy Butler certainly
giving him the opportunity to become the star that he's
become back in Chicago is not nor has ever been
particularly fond of playing for tips. So that combination is

(53:52):
why he wants Okay, does the league think that he's good?
I like, do the Nets, Nicks and Clippers think he's
good enough to be the best player on their team?
And and yeah, I know that's the that's the that's
the difficulty here. And I go back to having a
conversation with David West about this very subject where he

(54:13):
he said, you know, I was I was one of
the key guys in New Orleans. I was one of
the key guys in Indiana and I had to come
to terms of the fact that I was not good
enough to be a key guy on a championship caliber team,
and I had to accept who I was. I feel
as if like I have all the I have all

(54:34):
the respect in the world for what Jimmy Butler has
made himself into as a player. I did a story
when he first blew up in Chicago on where he
came from and how he grew up and the challenges
that he had, how lucky was he had a scholarship
to Marquette, and how he uh, how Buzz Williams and

(54:56):
he had a meeting in the minds to make him
into who he is. But I you know, along with that,
he's very complicated. Dude. I don't think he's good enough
talent wise to be one of your core players. And
he certainly has not demonstrated that he has been leadership
ability to be one of your core players. So what
happens great questions this is uh. I would expect that ultimately, Tips,

(55:23):
even if it's against his wishes, is going to have
to move Butler and get it might be ten cents
on the dollar, but at this point, Minnesota ownership doesn't
want to see Jimmy just walk and Jimmy sure has
health not uh re upping in Minnesota. So I think
ultimately what you're hearing now about we don't we're not

(55:45):
going to trade him is simply trying to regain some
leverage and the market value. You know, it's interesting because
teams that have moved guys have actually done pretty well
in those The other the Calves did not, but the
but the Pacers did. So it's not necessarily, um it's
it's not necessarily getting pennies on the dollar, but you

(56:07):
have to be very smart with it. Am I wrong
to think this is the first time in recent or
maybe NBA history that someone's actually utter the words I
want to be a Clipper. That's a good question. I'm
trying to think who else? Well, if the rumors are true,
it's becoming a trend because Kawhi Leonards killing the thing. Yes, no, no,

(56:28):
listen to the Clippers. Absolutely believe they're getting getting Kawhi
Leonard and lots of people around the NBA deal. I'm
not clowning on the Clippers. I'm just telling you you
and I have been around this, covered it, watched it
long enough like this is what's changed that now all
of a sudden, guys like, you know what, I want
to go play for the Clippers? Is it Jerry West?
Is it? Is it Lee Jenkins? Like? Is that why

(56:50):
Lee Jenkins was hired? I am not. I'm not gonna
credit either one of those. Uh, one of those guys.
I would say it starts with it's l a, it's
Steve Ballmer and we have a generation now when you
think about it, I mean, look, the Clippers still continue

(57:10):
to find ways to be the Clippers, but they're not
the Clippers of the Donald Sterling era. They have been
a playoff team. They are in a big market, and there, uh,
there is the element that first attracted Dwight Howard to
the Brooklyn Nets, which is I can be the guy
that becomes the legend for the Clippers, because they don't

(57:33):
really have one. If I'm the if I'm the guy
who leads them to their first finals appearance, I I
could do something as opposed to the team across town,
whereas you gotta win at least two championships to just
to get your name on the board. Uh. The the
the the legacy of the Lakers, I think in some

(57:55):
ways could be working against it, uh, compared to what
the Clippers have. Now, it's always gonna be a Lakers town.
But as far as guys coming in and have an
opportunity to be the main guy and do it for
a guy who has pepe pockets and in a big market,
the Clippers just don't have. I just don't think that
they have the reputation that you and I know them

(58:18):
to have because we've been seeing them for decades. No, no,
I I I got it. I just I also think
though that the like, look, I've lived in New York
and and you know, I think the Nets are doing
a masterful job of rebuilding this thing after it was
an absolute mess and they abject disaster in terms of
draft picks and cath flexibility and whatever. But it's still
I mean, you're talking, dude. They're not only behind the

(58:41):
Knicks and the Giants and the Jets and the Yankees,
the Vets and maybe even the Rangers. Like it's you
really are it's it really is an uphill fight, even
if from the outside looking in you're like, hey, Brooklyn
is Brooklyn is actually a more expensive place to live
than than Manhattan. Is. It's a great arena and they
have tons of money. It's the same thing with the

(59:02):
Clippers couvers like, Hey, they're going to build a brand
new facility I know, to practice and that's gonna open soon.
They're gonna get out from the Donald Sterling era. Right,
they may build their own arena as well. Their owners
got lots of money. They play in l A. But
it's just not the Lakers, it it really is, really
is an interesting perspective. Um is this any Is this
in any way a reflection of dudes not wanting to

(59:24):
play with Lebron? Oh, there's some of that. It's it's
not so much that they don't want to play with Lebron,
as is they don't want to play in the shadow
of Lebron. They don't want to change because if if
it doesn't work, if they don't win, it's their fault,
and if they do win, it's Lebron. So you really

(59:46):
don't there's there's not a whole lot of redeeming value there.
And I dare say the other part is everybody knows
that Lebron, I mean inside the league, everybody in the
side the league knows that Lebron into l A to
be close to Hollywood, Lebron went there to set up
his next career. It's not I'm going there to win championships.

(01:00:10):
That was the attraction for playing with Lebron and handing
over the keys to the car and and the road
map and everything else and saying, I'll take us desidiary
role because I'm gonna get a ring out of it.
Out now, there is no promise to that. So what's
the redeeming value of playing with Lebron. I'm gonna take
all of you puce if we don't win, and if

(01:00:33):
we do win, I'm supposed to thank my lucky stars
that Lebron got me a championship. And oh, by the way,
we're not going to get a championship. So what am
I doing there? Yeah? Interesting? Elm Brand's name general manager
of the Philadelphia seventies sixers. I've heard really good things.
I've heard they have a good staff that they'll teach

(01:00:53):
that he'll let them teach him what he doesn't already know.
But it is interesting that a guy that just stepped
off the quarter a couple of years of go um
is now the gentlemanager of one of the best franchise
in terms of talent in the NBA, but one that's
also going to have to figure out, you know, who
gets paid and how to pay them in the future.

(01:01:13):
How has the league reacted to this hiring? Uh W
t s has been the league reaction. You have a team,
you have a team that is on You basically have
a rolex and you have a do you have some
things that you need to tweak with this rolex in

(01:01:33):
order for it to be a a perfect watch? And
you bring in a guy who I like Elton Brand,
but he has virtually no experience. If this is a
beginning this this is not a beginner's set. This is
a team that needs to have those final strokes put
to it in order to win a championship. Why you

(01:01:56):
would hand it to a guy who has such little
experience is absolutely beyond me. I don't get it, and
the people and people around the league don't get it.
Um one of the guys that's there. And I don't
know whether it's because she came in with Brian Colangelo,
but Mark Everslee has worked in a number of places.

(01:02:17):
Mark Everslee is a guy I've talked to a lot.
One of the things I respect about him is that
even though we've had a relationship for years. Do you
ever tell me everything that I want to know? He
knows how to keep things close to the best. But
he is smart, he is shrewd, He knows the league,
he knows talent, he has relationships. Why you wouldn't put

(01:02:42):
him in the position of of GM, why you wouldn't
give him a job? To me, is us a an
ownership or a team that is outsmarting itself. It's trying
to look good by taking the guy that's never done
anything and say we discovered it well. By the time
Elton understands the ropes and knows how to work them,

(01:03:05):
the window for this Philadelphia seventy sixers team may have
gone by the board, or you may have blown asset
that you could have otherwise you a lot. But just
there's nothing against Melton. It's just for where this team
is in its evolution. You don't bring in a neophyte
to the job. Rick Buka joined us in the Doug
Gottlip Show from Bleacher Report. Of course, only a dartmouth

(01:03:27):
guy would use the term neophyte here on on the
National sports radio. He is not a neophyte in this
in this business. I want I want to ask you
about christophs Prozingis. I heard Steve Mills yesterday at their
media day say that there's no timetable for his return,
but there's also no extension right now. What's your read

(01:03:48):
on on the plan in New York. Well, they need
to build a relationship with Persingis. They didn't There wasn't one.
They're going back to fill there in the process of
doing at and making him feel good about what they're
building and what they have. That's that's gonna take some time.
I fully believe that Steve Mills and Scott Perry have

(01:04:08):
the ability to do that. But they're gonna slow play this,
and I honestly I feel as if they're not in
a hurry to get Porzingis back because they realize this
is the point of discovery for for Scott in particular,
to see what he has and to let these young
players develop and a little bit like Chicago last year,

(01:04:32):
and that they didn't have a problem putting Zack with
mean on the shelf of bringing him back slowly, I
would expect they're going to slow play bringing Porzingis back
because this really is you don't want to say you're tanking,
you don't want to say that you know, winning is
not important, and so the way around that is just

(01:04:53):
not to bring your biggest gun back any sooner than
you have to. And I believe that that's really a
the heart of this. Everything that I've heard at this
point is Is has been a positive as far as
the relationship with Prezingis and the nick. So I don't
think the fact that you're not hearing about long term

(01:05:14):
plans is a reflection that there's an issue there that
they can't get around. Um Am I wrong to think
it's the Celtics and the Warriors and everybody else, not
necessarily that that order Warriors and Celtics and Warriors and
Celtics and everybody else. I want to that's that's fair.
That's the way I would portray it. I'm I'm really
big on the Celtics that did this is the opportunity.

(01:05:37):
I believe that they can that I favor them. Actually
it's not something like sound a little crazy. I favored
them over the Warriors right now. I believe that the
the Warriors, with the Marcus Cousins not being around until February,
every single one of their key guys getting hurt at
the end of last year, and the fact that we
haven't seen a team win four championships in five runs

(01:06:02):
since the Bill Russell days. I don't think that's by accidents.
It's nothing against what the Warriors are. I just believe
that they needed to replenish troops and that they haven't
had an opportunity to do that, and or or a willingness,
let's say, and the riding the same horses through another run,

(01:06:26):
and we saw how vulnerable there they are if they
lose any one of those. I just feel as if
it's the Celtics time. It's it's a little bit like
with the Warriors were right at the precipice and then
they knocked off San Antonio. I feel like this this
is this is the Celtics time. Yeah, I think it's
It's really amazing how quickly people forgotten how good Gordon

(01:06:47):
Heyward is, right, and he's like, but he was an
all star in a wing in the West, right, and
he has progressively gotten better. He got hurt a couple
of minutes into the first game, and oh yeah, by
the way, you know, Kyrie Irving is in fact a superstar.
And then you'd expect reasonable improvement from Jalen Brown and
from Jayson Tatum that we saw in the playoffs. You

(01:07:08):
won't see that and and they've developed a bench. I'm
I'm with you on that. I am super excited about
the season. Can't wait to continue to talk with you
about it. Rick Butcher Buker, Bleacher Report, thanks so much.
Pleasure is all mine. Way to hear what Jason McIntyre
said on with Cowherd that upcoming plus my picks plus
Joe Clad plus uh, somebody else joined us the end

(01:07:31):
of the hour? Who was it? Just join us the
end the hour? Scott mclun's gonna join us right, former
general manager of the Redskins. He was the one, he said.
Baker reminds him of Brett Farve, I believe before the
NFL draft. Quickly though, Let's get you to Dan Buyer
Tiger Woods at the Tournament Players Championship. How are you doing?
Sorry for the lead right now at six under par
with Justin Rose, Who's Tigers through twelve on a second

(01:07:52):
round shot over John Rom and Ricky Fowler in the
lead more much of the day, but but hit some
poison to drop from seven under two five under par. Cowboy, Yes,
Savery Rose has hit some really well written song by

(01:08:17):
I Love Poison. Yeah. I was listening to some power
ballads last night. Action power BALLA have a little silent
lucidity from Queens Rich Remember that? Wow? Excellent. I like
where you're going with this. That's what's happening in golf.
Tiger's tied for the leading baseball Daniel Murphy a lead
off home run for the Cubs there on top of
the White Sox one nothing heading to the bottom of

(01:08:37):
the second on Chicago's South side. Cubs playing without shortstop
Addison Russell. Major League Baseball place the Cub shortstop on
leave after allegations he abused his ex wife. NFL injury news,
Packers officially listed quarterback here when Rogers as questionable with
a knee injury for Sunday's game against Washington. Titans quarterback
Marcus Mariotta a game time decision for their matchup against

(01:08:58):
the Jaguars because of an elbow injury. No Dalvin Cook
for the Vikings out Sunday against Buffalo because of a
hamstring injury, and Brown said Coacho Jackson gave the team
the weekend off following their win last night. He intends
to name a starting quarterback coming up on Monday. Alright,
make sure you listen to Dan Buyers show. Uh. It's
nine to eleven East Coast time, six to eight am

(01:09:20):
West Coast time, Pacific Coast time, Sunday mornings. It sets
your fantasy lineup. Plus if you listen, you'll pick up
all sorts of nuggets Dan Buyer. Every Sunday here on

Earlier today. Jason McIntire, the Big Lead, which you can
also hear Saturdays on Fox Sports Radio, had this to

(01:10:05):
say about what happens to Pete Carroll if the Seahawks
lose on Sunday. I believe the Cowboys go into Seattle
pull the mild upset and the big headline. When the
Seahawks go oh in three on Monday morning, petering out
Colin it feels like it's the end of Pete Carroll
in Seattle. That dynasty's done, Legion to boom gone. And

(01:10:25):
you know what, Pete Carroll sixt oldest coach in the NFL.
But guess where there could be an opening of a
football coach? Uh, you want to take a guess. Pete
Carroll to USC. If USC plays tonight against Washington State,
they better win this. Washington State throws for five yards
of game. If Washington State beat USC, Clayhalton's done. They

(01:10:46):
won't fire him mid season, but they've made a decision
inside the room, he's done. Pete Carroll has a lot
of equity built up at the school. Everybody loves him.
They would look because there's not a great coach out
there right now. There's not like a hot yet, like
a Chris p person's not right. All the young guys
are scooped up. I don't think they're gonna go for
the guy at Memphis Mike Norvell on fire. But I

(01:11:07):
think Pete Carroll loses his game starts oh and three.
That's why Pete Carroll. Just file us away, Pete Carroll,
maybe USC next year. Whoa file that away? Is? Maybe?
All right? Here's the thing, there is a lot there
to where you're like, you know, I could see them
going on three I can see, I mean not listen.
I live in like USC Booster Headquarters. Get rid of

(01:11:28):
Clay Helton, even though he won the pack twelve last
two years, it was all Sam Donald. Sam Donald did
everything I do, I think, and and Clay Helton had
some weird firing Brimstone not kind of out of his personality.
Meeting with the troops this week. I think they beat Wazoo.
But if they don't, web you know what I'm I'm
willing to listen to that more than mildly hot take.

(01:11:48):
The problem with McIntyre with that take is he he
also had this take one takeaway from Baker and he
was electric last night. Jets had no tape on and
they weren't ready. Did you see after the game he
runs off the field excited. Maybe five minutes later comes
out of the locker room to go on the NFL
network set and he had his phone in his hand. Really,

(01:12:11):
that was the number one thing I looked at. I
was like, what when you look at NFL quarterbacks after
the game, they don't have their phone. Baker Mayfield's first
thought was, man, I got that win. I gotta get
on social media and see what people are saying about me.
I'm telling you it was Oh come was a social
media guy who like favorites all the negative stuff you

(01:12:32):
say about him. That was like your first inclination. What's
what's he supposed to do? Joey, that's a very Levi
on Bell mode. Move okay, and we know where he
send a bird. He's twenty three years old. He just
he just got Sam is not checking his phone after
that season openers last night before that, the week one
his first win, he hugs his parents. He's talking to

(01:12:53):
Josh McCown. I didn't see a phone in his hand. Let.
Let me ask you a lee. When you get up
in the more? Hell? Do years old for thing? And
do you get up in the morning? I turned on
the TV. First thing you do is turn on the TV. Yeah,
Rama's first thing you do and get in the morning.
I am not twenty nine, but I do check my phone.
Ramos gets up and dies. P when when you hit forty?

(01:13:14):
When he hit forty you're like, oh yeah, I gotta
again the hell check. The first thing you do is
check your phone, right, good, Dan Buyer. The first thing
you do when you get up in the morning check
the phone. Correct and when I go to p at
two in the morning as well. For you, you're not
forty yet, there's you don't you don't get in on
this conversation. I'm kidding with it, but you're not forty yet,

(01:13:36):
right me? Yeah? Oh no, I am. I'm forty one.
I didn't know. Yeah, I thought you were talking to you.
Don't really you had good hair, you look really young.
Rama's and I look like we look like senior citizens
Denny's while me while buyers over here getting carded. Yeah,
I didn't even know. I got three times last night
in ninety minutes to go to the john So that's
how I know you're watching the game pounding bevies. I mean, listen,

(01:13:58):
I'm telling you. It's it's one of those things to
which I don't know women. Do women have the same
problem as well? It's definitely yeah, I don't know. Guys.
You get it like you hit forty and I'll say, like,
how do I know how old? Oh yeah, I gotta
pee again in the middle of the night for no re.
I just and I'm I've like gotten to where I've
done this with my kids. Like you do with kids
when they're little. All right, go to peere, you go
to bed. They don't even have to worry about peeing

(01:14:20):
in the middle of the night or pee in your
bed or whatever. Now now they remind me. I'm like, hey, Dad,
you gotta go be you know, to get in the
middle of the night old man. Anyway, my point is,
uh to two things we don't actually watch other NFL quarterbacks.
And if they have their phone, but everybody I know,
the first thing they do is they get up and
they check your phone. That's just what you do. That's

(01:14:42):
your way of communicating with people. He wasn't like check
my mentions. Let's go to I G Let's go to
you know. And look, Baker is a guy who is
very social, very energetic. I'm not taking away anything from
what Aker Mayfield did last night. Did the Jets have
a book on him? No, But I mean the Jets

(01:15:06):
spit the bit in a fourteen nothing lead and and
but it takes away from the more than lukewarm take,
which might have some validity the SC one and Pete
Carroll going back to SC, which I don't see happening,
just don't. I know. John Robinson went back to SC right,
Remember John Robinson was the coaching SC goes to the

(01:15:28):
Rams and it comes back to SC. It didn't really,
it didn't work terribly, but it worked well the second
time around. So there is past it and and and
I think SC should call, but I don't think that
would happen. I don't at sixty seven, I don't see it. Say, uh,
Scott mccluon is a big reason the Browns drafted Baker

(01:15:49):
Mayfield number one overall. Let's let's see if he wants
to beat his chest a little bit. They'll join us
up coming next. Be sure to catch live editions of

three p Pacific, previously on The Doug Gotli Show. Trendell
for joining us in the Doug Gottlip Show here on

(01:16:12):
the Patriots just not very good defensively? A couple of
years ago was unfairly harsh to play and I hunted
him down, and I apologize and I at first forgiveness
and his credit. He gave me a ton of grades
and was fully cool with it, but it led to
a deeper conversation about he admitted to me because yeah,
I was. I mean, my confidence were shattered. It was

(01:16:33):
hard to do easy things. Throwing a football is not easy,
he said. But the end of last year, when my team,
my coaches, my try had my back and believed in
me and said you are our franchise quarterback. We wouldn't
want anybody else. You're our guy. He said, You had
no idea how that's what that's done for my confidence,

(01:16:54):
And you could see it come. You know, he started
to play a lot better Dani last year, especially through
the playoffs. But this year you see, you see freedom,
You see the fullest of Blake Barrels talent, because he's
a very talented guy. Now see Aaron Rodgers. No Blake
Barrels could be as good as Alex Smith. He can
be as good as Kirk Cousins. If you missed anything

Show Fox Sports trader Scott mcluen's our guest. Former gentle

(01:17:37):
manager of the Redskins. He's also the founder of Instinctive Scouting,
was a consultant for the Browns in this year's draft,
part of the reason that the Browns decided to draft
Baker Mayfield number one overall. Are you doing a victory
lap today, Scott? I'm very proud of them though, you
know he uh, it's a rookie, you know, especially off
the bench. Um. But it did in surprise me at all.

(01:18:01):
What's what's maybe most interesting is um. And we had
Michael Lombardion is another former general manager earlier, and he's like, look,
they obviously don't have a book. They didn't have a
book on him. Didn't know he was gonna play. On
the other hand, he didn't know he was gonna play,
and he was prepared for that moment. That that's part
of the understated part of Baker Mayfield, isn't it that
he really is Um. He studies hard. He's a football savant,

(01:18:26):
and he's all in on the mental aspect of the game. True,
no doubt about it. You know what. And the thing
that's really cool about him, and I respect, and I've
been around some really good quarterbacks, is the fact that
you know, he he came in well, once he was drafted,
he wanted to start. You know, he was walking on Texas,
tex he walked on Oklahoma. Started each time started the

(01:18:48):
first game you expected to start, you know, week one
this year, you know, and of course he didn't. But
now he prepares as he's the guy, and and and
that's you know, you can't really each that. That's just
an inner drive, internal fortitude that makes him why he
had a good game and why he was prepared and

(01:19:09):
why he's gonna be good going forward. What do you
think of Donald? I like him. You know, he's talented. Um.
You know, if it's the same thing, teams are only
as good as a supporting cast. You know, you can
have a great quarterback with a few and far between.
You need to have ten guys on offense with you,
and you need to let them guys on defense, let
them guys on special teams and once you get to that,

(01:19:32):
now you're building something. But he's gonna be get I
think all four, you know, with Jackson, I don't know yet,
um just because I don't know if how he's going
to fit the system. But the four they were drafted
before him, I think are all gonna be good NFL quarterbacks. Okay,
so what are you doing? Great? Two will be average?
What do you think the ros And thing? He's sitting there.

(01:19:54):
They're paying Bradford a butt a lot of money, but
Bradford's you know, checking down and doesn't doesn't seem like
he has the fortitude to step up and throw the
ball down the field. That they're out of talent. They
don't appear to have the overall talent to really compete.
They got thump first two games. How would you handle
the rose And thing? Well, the thing about it is
what you gotta approach it is because you drapped him
in the first round for a reason. Um, of course

(01:20:14):
you want them on the field as soon as possible,
but also you've got to realize, what's your line look like,
what's your back situation looking like from the standpoint of
past protection on third downs? Because last year you want
to do because I have a David Carr incident, you
know what he had in Houston where he got beat
up so bad that he lost all his confidence. You know,
That's that's the key thing. But I guaranteed they want

(01:20:35):
Roses on the field as soon as possible, but they
also want to protect him. Scott mcluan joining as former
general manager of the Washington Redskins um Alex Smith has
not been does not seem fully comfortable. Twenty four passes
to his running back so far. We're only two games
into the season. That's number one in the National Football League. Uh,
they had a couple of wide receivers. Is it simply

(01:20:57):
getting more comfortable or is he a tough fit for
j system? Well, I think when if you look at it,
and since Jake has been there, and especially with Kurt,
you know, the last couple of years, it's a lot
underneath stuff, you know, and Alex proud last year that
he can til the deep ball. You know, he had
a heck of a year, you know, of course, you know,
percentage wise down the field was excellent, you know, but

(01:21:19):
the systems the system, and Alex is gonna listen to
whatever the coach has to do. He's not gonna be
bred far for you know, Baker from the standpoint, I'm
I'm just taking a shot to heck with it. You know,
Alex was gonna do exactly what he's told to do
by j in in Kavanaugh, the d O C. And

(01:21:40):
that's just who he is. But that's Jay's system. That's
you know, it's underneath. It's checkdowns and it's a lot
underneath routes. Last thing's kind of got about thirty seconds.
I apologize, I apologize. Uh. Pete Carroll says, Russell Wilson
has to play better. How much is on Russell? How
much is on the line, Lots on the line. Russell

(01:22:00):
Wilson's a really good football player. And if you give
him time and let him improvise how he does stuff,
he's he's he's exceptional. So sorry to cut your short Scott,
thanks for joining us. We'll talk with you very very soon.

Down out down, and Man, there's a lot to a
lot of sports going on. Tiger Woods playing golf at
the Players Championship, the Cleveland Rounds gotta win, Wow. The
New York Yankees clinched the A L East, the A's
still kind of hanging around in the A L Wild Card,
Dodgers very close to Clinton, the NL wild Carpage sweep

(01:23:06):
NL West with a sweep of the Rockies. Man, there's
a lot of sports going on. I love Fault fault
so much better than summer. It just is. Summer is
just like ingrained in you that summer is great. It's not.
It's great in southern California. The problem is southing California
is not the weather. It's amazing here in the summer.

(01:23:28):
You know the problem with that is everybody comes here,
You're like, no, go away, we know it's awesome. Go away.
Then you got people are like they don't know it.
We already have plenty of people who don't know how
to drive. Adding in people don't know where they're going,
makes it makes them even people know how to drive,
it seem like they don't know how to drive. Oh,
it's awful. And then anywhere else you got ridiculous humidity.

(01:23:52):
Everything costs more people traveling with kids. And there's no
good sports on TV that we really care about. Now
all the sports are on that you care about or
getting ready to a right hoop, getting ready to get
in a way college football, heating up, pro football, heating
up baseball, getting to getting ready for fall and for
the for the playoffs and the fall weather. Oh man,

(01:24:12):
I mean, like if you're any other part of the
country in that humidity cutch, like this is the greatest
ever apple picking seasons in in season part of the country.
Pumpkins spice lattes. Don't act like you don't like it, Ramos,
of course you do. You put pumpkin spice in anything.
You put pumpin sice and poop soda, like you know,
I don't like the poop soda, but that pumpkin spice

(01:24:32):
thing is really good. Fall better than summer. And uh,
the the northeastern or whatever or whatever part of Ohio
Cleveland is in their long nightmare is in fact over.
They've won a football game. And uh, it couldn't have
Like you couldn't script it any better. That there's Baker

(01:24:53):
Mayfield not playing, not rumored to play, although we told
you that you'd probably see him, like now, we're not
gonna play him, not gonna play him. Tyrod Taylor terrible,
He comes in all of a sudden, there's some energy,
plays a little bit better, a little bit better. Actually
caught one on a trick play on at their own
little Philly special, and you look up in the Browns

(01:25:15):
win a football game. He wasn't perfect, but he was
better than Tyrod Taylor, and he played pretty damn well,
and he was ready to go. Baker got rid of
it quick. The Jets defense tired, and the Browns come
from fourteen nothing down and win their first football game
since two thousand and sixteen December of two thousand and sixteen.

(01:25:37):
Pretty remarkable. It was like something from a movie. And
I'm not telling you to buy or be aware. I'm
just telling you to be reasonable about it. Being a
great quarterback in the NFL is not nor has it
ever been about one week. It's not even about one season.
It's definitely not about one comeback. The name Scott Mitchell

(01:25:59):
comes to my mind. Scott Mitchell was Tebow before Tebow. Right,
we mentioned that last night was the or Dan Buyer
mentioned that last night was the twenty six anniversary of
Brett Farve replacing Don Mikowski. For people who don't remember
who Don Miikowski was, Don Mikowski was Scott Mitchell before
Scott Mitchell, the magic Man, all right, the magic Man.

(01:26:25):
I don't know if you know this. Don Mikowski led
the NFL in passer yards, pass uh, in passing yards,
in completion, and in attempts. In nine eight threw for
four thousand yards, back when three thousand yards was a
big thing, Like, why haven't I ever heard of Don Miikowski?
They went ten and six that year, and then after
that he kept getting hurt and they stunk, and he

(01:26:47):
got replaced by Farv, who was better. It was better.
I'm not saying anybody can do it one time, but
there have been a lot more guys do it one
time than have done it two times. And once you
get through one season, it's can youa do it? Year
after year after year? The Baker was everything He's built
to beat. He's he's the energizer, Bunny Bunny. He believes
in himself he has enough grasp of the reads of

(01:27:10):
the offense to make it work. He's athletic enough, though
not a great athlete. He's got really good arm strength,
though not the strongest arm in the league. And he
beat the New York Jets, big boy football, the weights.
But for a Thursday night game, which is I believe
the highest rated game that they've ever had on the

(01:27:30):
NFL network, it could you could not have scripted a
better win for the Browns. They actually let the Tyrod
Taylor thing play out. That's how it's supposed to work.
And it also proves that that there's a there's a
saying in football which is the dumbest saying ever. Well,

(01:27:51):
you don't lose your job to injury. Yeah you do. Yeah,
happened to Alex Smith in San Francisco, happened to Drew
bled So in New England, and it happened last night
to ty Rod Taylor in Cleveland. You get hurt, somebody
steps up. It's the reason Jay Leno would never take
a night off. He was afraid somebody would come in

(01:28:13):
and be funnier than jay Leno. Do you know why
he thought that, because there's lots of people that are
funnier than Jay Leno. Nobody goes through the list of
the great comedians goes you know, there's Eddie Murphy, there's
Chris Rock, There's Richard Pryor, there's Jay Letto, there's Jim
gaff Again, there's who did you say, Jay Letto? People

(01:28:34):
don't even go through the night the list of great
late night hosts, right well, there's Johnny Carson, there's David Letterman,
and boy I like Jimmy Fallon, and there's Jay Leno,
and do you say jay Letto? With Johnny Carson. The
point is, you do, in fact lose your job to
injury or to sickness or to illness or whatever, unless

(01:28:54):
you're Chuck Pugano when you get cancer. And then they're like,
we we can't really fire you keep Bruce arians. But
last night was the side of what could be for
the Browns dynamic press rush. They got plenty of athletes
and a quarterback who, when he gets rid of it quickly,
has a strong enough arm, a good enough grass, and
is a good enough athlete to make some plays. And
he is He's got incredible personal kind of energy. He's

(01:29:16):
there's a certain amount of force multiplier to him, right
to you, Like, is beker Mayfield good? Like? I don't know,
but he sure thinks he's good, So I think that
he thinks he's good. And confidence, believe it or not,
is a huge part of making it in professional sports,
huge part because if you don't believe in yourself, what
gives anybody else the thought that they will. So congrats

(01:29:37):
to the Browns. You are off the schneide and the
Pittsburgh Steelers are in the last place in the a
f C North. But it is just one win on
a short week against the rookie quarterback in which he
had to come back from fourteen nothing down. And now
people will get a book and start to prepare for you,
and we'll see how it goes when you're on the
road and you're in more difficult circumstances. That's just real.

(01:29:57):
That's just contextual contextualization of a cool story. All Right,

M Doug Olive Show, Fox Sports Radio. Guess who's leading
at the Players Championship? Mm hmm, Yes, you'll hear from
Dan Buyer in thirteen minutes or so Joe clad his
h Fox Sports college football analysts. He's also an NFL

(01:31:29):
Draft analysts for Fox. He's calling number eighteen Wisconsin at
Iowa in Iowa City. That's tomorrow at five thirty Pacific
time on Big Fox. Um, let me start with last night,
Joel Um. Obviously we get the Fox gets Thursday night,
going to next week with the with the Rams welcoming
in the Vikings. But I know you watched and you've seen,

(01:31:51):
you saw Baker a ton um and then you've seen
Sam Donald a ton Did you like Sam or Baker?
If you were the Browns heading to the draft? You know,
I candidly I was probably more in in the Sam
Donald camp, but it wasn't by much, and it certainly
wasn't because I thought Baker wasn't going to succeed. I

(01:32:12):
think both of them will. I just thought that Sam
was the safer pick um. But shoot, man, every single
time that Baker Mayfield has hit the field, whether it
was as a true freshman walk on in Texas Tech,
or whether it was as a transfer walk on at Oklahoma,
or in his second season at Oklahoma or in his
third season at Oklahoma, every single time this guy has

(01:32:35):
a football in his hand. He exceeds expectations. That's what's
so remarkable, right, Like you keep raising the bar and
he keeps surpassing it. And he certainly did that in
his debut last night. So I I should have known
better right now than to underestimate him. I think he
was I always thought he was going to be a
success in the NFL. But last night it looked like
Oklahoma was playing TCU. I mean, he went out there

(01:32:57):
and playing with the same type of passion, with the
same type of swagger um and it was impressive. Man,
I'll tell you what. He was impressive last night. Deal
on it. I agree with you another it doesn't. It
wouldn't change my feelings and wanting still wanting Donald more
if they thought Darnad was under duress and it was,
you know, knowing he's coming as opposed to not not

(01:33:18):
having a book on Baker Mayfield. But I didn't think
Baker Mayfield stinks. I just think there's probably a limit
there in terms of some physical aspects, but mentally, and
I've never seen a more self confident dude, right, and
a guy who he exudes it, but not in a
way to which you resent it. It's a way in
which I mean like, look, it's still guys in the
locker room, and the guys believe in him. They they

(01:33:40):
want him to help him succeed. I've never seen a quarterback,
and I've been around a lot of a lot of
players and a lot of different sports and that high levels,
but I've never seen a guy that has the loyalty
of his locker room quite like Baker. And and it
was true at Oklahoma, and you're starting to sense that
at Cleveland. I'm you saw those I mean they were

(01:34:01):
they were playing great football around him, in part because
of the energy he was providing out there. So it
was it was fun to watch. I can tell you that. Man.
Let's let's let's hit to college football. Your your day job.
Um is the big is the Big ten stink? Like,
what what happened? Let's start with Wisconsin, right, I get
b y U. You can sit here and say, hey,

(01:34:22):
they have a quarterback that was a super highly rated
quarterback and they got older dudes and they're in there.
They they have kids, you know, they have kids older
than some of the players you know, um on these
other rosters. But you shouldn't lose it home to b
y u, if you're a legit Wisconsin squad, what's going
on with the Big ten specifically Wisconsin. Yeah, so let

(01:34:42):
me let's take a trip down memory lane if you would, uh,
you know, if you would with me, because I think
a lot of people have said, and I even thought
this last week as it was happening, like, oh my gosh,
this is doom and gloom, this is boy, this is
the indictment that everyone else needs to maybe keep the
Big Ten out of the playoffs. And so I went

(01:35:04):
back back and there was a week like this for
this conference the Big Ten, back in two thousand and fourteen,
and so I wanted to dig a little bit deeper
and look at the similarities and look at the differences
between week two and two thousand and fourteen and week
three and two thousand and eighteen. If you go back
to two thousand and fourteen, number seven Michigan State got
beat pretty handily by number three Oregon forty six twenty seven,

(01:35:26):
and Eugene Votec beat number eight Ohio State in the
shoot one and Notre Dame shutout Michigan thirty one nothing.
In that same week, Central Michigan beat per Due Northern
Illinois beat Northwestern. It was like it was a terrible
day for the Big twelve. After that week, Doug, they
only had three ranked teams, none of them in the

(01:35:47):
top ten. Ohio State would fall all the way down
to number twenty two in the country. And what ended
up happening at the end of that year, the High
State won the national championship. So you look at what
happened after last week. Yes, there were seven really bad losses,
and and you can't sugarcoat it, Wisconsin was the worst
one of them all. And yet you look up at

(01:36:08):
the end of the week, there's still five ranked teams,
two in the top ten, and the pre eminent brand
in the conference. Ohio State actually got a resume building
win and TCU. And if we know anything about this
committee era, in the playoff era, it's really more about
your one great team that it is about the depth
of your entire conference. I've argued that it should be

(01:36:28):
about the depth. I think I've I've fallen woefully short
in that argument because everyone just says, well, who's your champion,
who's in the playoff, who's winning the national champion? So
I think I would make the argument that the Big
Ten is just fine because Ohio State is just fine. Um. Now,
maybe that doesn't come to fruition, but at least for
right now, that's kind of the opinion that I hold.
All right, what's the matter with Wisconsin specifically, Wisconsin has

(01:36:49):
too many young guys on defense that just made mistakes.
Their defense has been so good for so long, and
last year they were on the best defenses in the
conference and really in the country. What they did well,
Doug is they were great on first down, so they
would constantly get other teams and imposing teams off schedule.
By off schedule, I mean into obvious down situations. As

(01:37:10):
soon as they were in obvious down situations, meaning took
away the threat of the run game, they got after
the passer. They were able to get creative in their
blitz schematics, they were able to manipulate their coverages in
order to confuse quarterbacks. But now what you're seeing is
that you're seeing a far greater percentage of their snaps
being played and what's called normal down, the threat of
the run is still there. You've got to be in base.

(01:37:32):
You can't manipulate, and what happens, you end up losing.
You give up more third down conversions. Uh, and then
all of a sudden by you pops a run because
they wanted to play a big, physical type of matchup.
You get out of your gap one time and it's
a big run and in a tight game that ends
up getting a beat. And then their offense continues to
turn the ball over and it's been a problem ever

(01:37:53):
since last year. They got away with it last year,
and they did not get away with their last week.
So they've got a lot of things to clean up
as they get ready for a division foe that plays
great at home. Remember I will beat Michigan two years ago. Here.
They took Penn State down the last nap in Kinnock
last year and they beat the doors off of Ohio State,
scoring fifty five points, essentially eliminating the buck Eyes from

(01:38:13):
the playoff discussion because of that loss that the book
I suffered here. How surprised are you Nebraska ze too? Um?
I think if you take it in context, you can
see like, well, maybe we shouldn't be that surprised. I
still have no worries for the Huskers and for Scott
Frost in particular. I think that's gonna be a great higher.

(01:38:34):
He has a true freshman quarterback, Adrian Martinez that is
a special player. He got injured against Colorado. They never
got their warm up game against Akron, which by the way,
beat Northwestern, So all of a sudden, they have to
be in a revamped rivalry game, if you will, against Colorado,
which is a veteran team of the veteran quarterback that
has a great wide receiver that is very motivated this
year that ended up sneaking out to win. And then

(01:38:56):
all of a sudden, you gotta play Troy, who beat
LSU on the road last year. That's a tough beginning
to the schedule, and and contextually you can understand why
Nebraska is struggling early. I still think that they're playing harder.
I still think that they're going to be playing more
sound and ultimately I do believe that it's going to
work with Scott Frosts at Nebraska is just gonna take

(01:39:17):
some time. That's the voice of Joel Clad has joined
us year on the Doug Gottlive Show on Fox Sports Radio.
You got cheat Texas and USC up close and personal.
Well let's start with USC because they play tonight against Wazoo.
That there are some some they're like, hey, look, Clay
hell Nki won the pack twelve the last two years.
That was all Sam Donald. He loses tonight, let's get
rid of him. Let's just let's get rid of him.

(01:39:39):
Um And there are some that say, you know, J
D Danez could still be in high school. His best
wide receiver is also a freshman, Let's give him some time.
What's your thoughts having seen s C up close. Yeah,
probably there's there's probably truths and both of the things
that you said, um And I don't think it has
to be one or the other. Um And let me

(01:39:59):
try to to find both of those. Yes, you're right.
JP Daniels is incredibly young. He also, you know, sat
out essentially a year and redid eighth grade. So yes,
he should technically be in high school. But he also
shouldn't technically be in college this year as well. So
it's it's kind of you know, six and one half
the other dozen in the other um And and they
do have young skill position players that are really banged

(01:40:21):
up and young at safety. They're not great in the
defensive front seven, which they felt like I was going
to be an issue when Rahime Green left for the
NFL last year. So all of those things are true,
and yet you can also say, Doug is probably not
the smartest thing to go on the road in front
of a hundred and three thousand at Texas and your
game plan is I want to have my eighteen year

(01:40:43):
old throughout forty seven times to another eighteen year old,
and that's how we think we're gonna win. Like, you've
got to at some point develop an offensive line, develop
a defensive line, and win the line of scrimmage. You
can't run for minus six yards with a true freshman
quarterback and think you're gonna win. That's just not a
game plan that is going to be successful unless they
get tougher upfront, which is what Pete Carroll's teams were

(01:41:03):
at USC. Everyone always talks about the talent at USC,
and I'm starting to get kind of tired of it.
It's like, yeah, we get it. They've got good skill
position players, so does a lot of other schools. You
know what, great teams have good offensive linement and good
defensive lignement in right now, USC does not have a
lot of those Texas who was not blocking anybody coming
into last week, all of a sudden was winning the

(01:41:24):
line of scrimmage, running the football, owning the clock. And
that's just not a recipe for for a win. So
we'll see tonight. You know what, while Zoo averages like
two d and fifty six, I think pounds on the
defensive line in the too deep. If they can't run
it tonight, that is a serious problem. Speaking at USC,
yeah what what All the sc guys I know think, say,
Clay Hilton is a great dude, but this is just

(01:41:46):
they're just not well coached and everyone seems to know it.
And maybe now it's it's getting exposed. We'll see, we'll see,
we'll see if he can he can turn kind of
the negative momentum. That is a place though that has
negative momentum off and with their alumni base, um all
and men, and hey, listen, you and I are right
in like USC Country, Saron, Orange County were around all

(01:42:08):
of them. They are cutthroat. Man. That lane was on
the tarmac, I mean, Stark was in the middle of
the year. I mean they don't care. Yeah, they do
not care at all. Let me ask you about Texas.
They got TCU coming in. Look, TCU had the lead
but couldn't hold off Ohio State. Uh, you know, I
was kind of impressed with TCU, with their their with
the athletes they put out there. Um, what's your thoughts

(01:42:31):
on TCU matching up against Texas. I've thought TCU came
out of last week's even at last week's loss, um
looking even better than they did going in because there
was questions surrounding their quarterback and whether you know, you know,
how good they were really going to be. They were young,
Garry Patterson was trying to temper expectations coming into the

(01:42:52):
season because of their youth and some of the players
that they were trying to replace. But the fact of
the matter is they're really good. And the reason I
know that is that I think All States one of
the four best teams in the country by a pretty
wide margin, you know, the top four or five at
this point, I've really separated themselves out well, how State
is clearly in that class. They're explosive on offense. I
think they're really good on defense. They're talented everywhere, lines

(01:43:14):
of scrimmage, back in skill positions, everywhere. And PCU was
right there, Doug, I mean eight point lead and if
the shovel pass goes a different direction, it's if it's
just incomplete, you never know how that game is gonna
end up. Meanwhile, I think Texas probably got a little bit,
yeah of a false sense of reality last week because

(01:43:36):
USC played so poorly. So I happen to believe TCU
is going to go in there and beat him pretty handily.
But we'll see. You know, who knows what that momentum
does for Tom Herman and that team, which is talented
and pretty physical. Joel Clatten joining us in the Doug
Gotlant Show. He's got Wisconsin Iowa tomorrow evening on Big Fox.
Georgia traveling in Missouri. Well, we've seen this several times

(01:43:57):
over where Missouri gets a bunch of wins, but when
they step up against the elite competition in the SEC,
they get stomped. They're big time dogs to the dogs
at home. Are you a buyer that Georgia is one
of the true Big three in college football? Yes, I'm
absolutely a buyer. I think that they're They're explosive and
efficient on offense, which is a really dangerous combination. Uh,

(01:44:19):
you know, their quarterbacks only have like six or seven
more in completions than they do. Corter touchdown passes all together.
That's that's a deadly combination. They got three running backs
that can run it, They're playing great defense, they're physical.
They are in that class of of what I would
call the top five in the country, and then everyone
else is chasing them. It starts with Alabama and there's
probably a little bit of a separation, and then there's

(01:44:41):
your Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson in Oklahoma. And I think
those five teams have proven this season to be top
tier teams. I don't think Missouri is gonna be able
to hang. They can score, they can play some offense,
but I don't think it's gonna do much against Georgia.
Georgia is just too good. They're too deep, they're too athletic.
You know, the interesting thing is I and you know, uh,

(01:45:02):
Kelly Bryant, maybe you put in that discussion. You probably don't.
The interesting thing about especially Georgia and Alabama and maybe
even know how State this year Joel is these teams
have always had talent, especially Alabama Ohio State, but now
they have elite quarterback play, and and so the separation
is made even more obvious, isn't it. I I completely agree.

(01:45:24):
I think let me put it to you this way.
If you take the five national championships that Nick Saban
has won and you average out what their offenses were
in those five years, they averaged right around thirty five
and a half points per game, so not great but
pretty good. Um. And then all of a sudden, if
you take a look at what they're doing this year,

(01:45:45):
it's fifty six point Doug. It's twenty one points better
than their national championship offense. It's insane, and they're still
playing top ten defense. So to H gives them the
ability to win with a singular player, which is what
has has always taken to win the national championship outside
of Alabama's great roster. Think about it since on nine

(01:46:07):
when they started winning national championships. Who's it been? That's
actually one of these things you're taking a look and
you're looking around and what do you got? You got
Cam Newton in two thousand and ten, Jamis Winston and
thirteen Cardel and Zeke and that amazing performance that they
had offensively to Shaun Watson. Now, all of a sudden,
you give that type of a player to Alabama, I mean,
this could be lights out. And you're right about the
other teams as well. They're getting great quarterback play as well,

(01:46:29):
and George has got two good quarterbacks. It's pretty pretty remarkable.
Joe Klatt Enjoy, Iowa good people there, obviously. I love
the wave to the children's hospital. Oh my gosh, I'm
gonna cry, man. I mean, it's a it's a that's
a that's an amazing plats an amazing thing that they
do is pretty How about this is real? Quickly? This
is what they tell me. They're like, listen, don't look

(01:46:50):
up at the hospital until the end, because what gets
you is, you know, the stadium is great, but you
look up and you can see little hands waving back,
and I'm gonna cry right now now. It's it's it's tough,
especially with some of the other stuff that's gone on
in the state, to know how many really good people
there are right there. Uh anyway, Joel Enjoy, I will

(01:47:13):
talk to you soon, buddy, You got all right. Joe Clatt,
who's also I've seen him in person at work. He's
good dad too, and all his kids are super good
looking with good hair, and it's just it's kind of
just it's kind of gross. It's kind of gross, really, right,
Guys that are good at their job not supposed to
have that good of hair and that cute of family.
Let's get to Dan Buyer. He's not nearly as cute

(01:47:35):
Dannis Tiger winning. No, he was for a moment and
then a double bogey brought him back tied for the lead.
Right now, what did you do? Drove it into a
bunker at the heck out and then missed a bogey putt.
So Tiger is at six enterpart. Did have a two
shot lead for a moment, but it's time with Justin
Rose for the lead of the Tour Championship. Tiger has

(01:47:55):
got a couple of more holes to play on a
second round. Rose playing the final hole of the daily
Our five eighteen tolls. So Tiger tied for the lead
with Justin Rose, one shot better than Rory McElroy, who's
also finishing up his round. He is at five under par.
In baseball, White Sox are on top of the Cubs
right now, four to one heading to the fifth inning
in Chicago. Another Major League Baseball place Cub shortstop Battison

(01:48:16):
Russell on leave after allegations he abused his ex wife.
The Rangers fired manager Jeff Banister after almost four years
on the job. Bench coach Don Wakamatsu will serve as
the team's interim manager for the rest of the regular series.
What's the point of firing him now? I guess maybe
getting a leg up on potential candidates. That would be
I think the only reason. But maybe to get a

(01:48:38):
week in advance. Yeah, I'm not sure, but I think
that's probably the reason. If it's gonna be the inevitable,
just do it now, right at the string, and end
up maybe starting your work on twenty nine team. That
could be the case. In Texas, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota
game time decision for their matchup with the Jaguars because
of an elbow injury. Packers quarterback erind Roger officially listed

(01:49:01):
as questionable for their game against Washington. Of course, he
has his knee injury. Doug Doug Gotlum show, Fox Sports Radio,
It's that time of week you have been waiting for kids.
It's time to make our picks. It's time to make
our picks. John Ramos, is time to make our picks. Well,

(01:49:23):
we got him five there it is five NFL. Let's
go five five College five for five with Doug Godley,
I won't winner. Well, we got him five NFL five,
College five on three. It's five for five with Doug Godli.

(01:49:46):
Let's go five Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. All Right, Look,
we're all going crazy about about Alabama, and we should
go crazy about Alabama. I mean really really should. But um,
they're taking on Texas A and M at home and
they are the number. It's just like one of those

(01:50:08):
what is it gonna take to get you to bet
on somebody other than Alabama? And the answer is the
line for Texas A and M. That's that's that's really
my my life, all right. I look at this number
and I think it's too big. Points is too many
for A and M? That Uh yeah, I know they're
playing at home and and they've played a game since,

(01:50:30):
but they could have and maybe should have beaten Clemson.
Went for I had to go for two at the end,
didn't get it. I think A and M keeps it
within twenty six points. I think Kelly Mon has been really,
really good. I'm not trying to take anything away from Alabama.
I think they win the game. I think it's a
tougher than he's not Johnny men's l He doesn't go
in there and win, but A and M keeps it
within maybe two touchdowns and two touchdowns you're smiling, I

(01:50:54):
mean really really smiling. All right, So let's take A
and M on the road to Do to Do. George
is going into Missouri. Missouri is a fourteen point dog
at home. Have you guys seen Drew Lock play again?

(01:51:16):
I don't think George. I think George is much better
than Missouri. But they're playing in Columbia, and Drew Lock
can put up some points. The over under on this
one is sixty four and a half. They think there's
gonna be some scoring. I think George is really good,
but I think Missouri will score and keep this thing close,
maybe even score some late. You know, Matthew Stafford style

(01:51:36):
put up some of them dirty points. Give me the
home dogs in the Tigers. Done to done, done done. Uh.
Here's one Virginia has taken on Old Dominion. There, Virginia,
excuse me. Virginia Tech is a twenty eight and a
half point favorite over Old Dominion. Who's lost to Liberty
fifty two to ten, who's lost to Florida National and

(01:52:00):
to Charlotte, who does in fact now have a Charlotte
doesn't have fact have a football program now they lost
to Charlotte. Yeah, I'm taking Virginia Tech in the points.
Virginia Tech, and I know it's been a while since
they beat Florida State, but this is a really good
Virginia Tech team. I think they will handle business. This
will be at one of those fifty to seven type

(01:52:21):
of games. I will take the big dog, will take
the big number. Speaking a big number. West Virginia kicks
off big twelve play. They get Kansas State at home.
They've had some time off. Will Greer is like a
tenth year senior. The transfer from Florida is a Heisman
Trophy candidate. And uh this is this is not one

(01:52:43):
of Bill Steiner's great teams. They struggle with South Dakota.
They were blown out at home by Mississippi State. They
played UT San Antonio. Don't care, I know the number sixteen.
I'm gonna take West Virginia in that big number at home. Plus,
I'd love to hear those guys. I love to hear
the fans sing at the end of a game. All Right,
I got another home dog upset. Indiana has taken on

(01:53:05):
Michigan State not a big buyer into Michigan State, could
have lost at home to Utah State, did lose on
the road to Arizona State. I'm gonna take Indiana straight up,
straight up against Michigan State. They are six point dogs,
so I get six points to still end up winning
the bet. I US three and oh they beat Ball

(01:53:25):
State member Ball State gave Notre Dame a really good game. Uh,
they beat Virginia and they beat Florida National. Um. This
is a huge game for Indiana, it's not for Michigan State.
I just don't think Michigan State is that good this year.
It's really kind of My takeaway has been all season long.
Doom don don don don don don down any one

(01:53:48):
more pick? Don't I done? You want to pick? I
just want to make sure my math is right. It's
been nine nine times, nine consecutive times Oklahoma State has
beat in Texas Tech. Cliff Kingsbury, who played at Texas Tech,
has never beaten Oklahoma State as a head coach. This
line started at eleven and it's already moved to fourteen.

(01:54:13):
Oklahoma State one big last weekends Boise State. Why two
block punts and a great pass rush. You're not gonna
block a punt two weeks in a row against Cliff Kingsbury,
and you're not gonna have a great pass rush because
their quarterbacks don't hold the football. I love Texas Tech.
Now that it's at fourteen and a half points, give
me Texas Tech as a road dog to cover. Those

(01:54:34):
are my five college picks. Let's get to the pros.
Shall add all right? We survived and got a dub
last night for the Browns. All of us picking the
Browns to cover. I believe that somebody picked the Jets.
Somebody picked the Jets to cover. I might have been
rying music. That's why he's not on the show today. Right.
I'm not a buyron to the Dolphins. I do think
the Raiders are getting better. Raiders should have won the

(01:54:56):
road last week. They're getting three points of his three
in a hook. I would love the Raiders right now.
I like the Raiders. I'll take them and the three points.
Vikings are at home against the Buffalo Bills. It's sixteen
and a half and there's one another one of those
what's the number have to be to which you'll pick
the Bills? Not sixteen and a half. I'm gonna take
the Vikings. Don't don't, don't, don't, don't don't. Ravens are

(01:55:19):
taking on the Broncos. People know I'm big on the Ravens.
Now on the Broncos. Broncos are two and oh and
they're five and a half point dogs on the road.
I think reality strikes in as the Ravens blow out
the Broncos. Don't like love the Ravens. M Giants taken
on the Texans. Not a buyer into the Giants at all.

(01:55:40):
Deshaun Watson at home gets chance to settle himself wide
receiving corps getting healthy. Texans will win, Texans will cover
Rams taken on the Chargers. Rams are seven point favorites.
Seven point favorites. But it should be pointed out that

(01:56:02):
even though the Charges are not the same without Joey Bosa,
they're not Derwin James playing at Pro Bowl level, even
though he's just a rookie. Rams d Greg the leg
has been hurt. That hurts them, um, and I think
that's a lot of points. They played the Raiders who
are just okay, and they blew out the They they
blew out the Cardinals. Charges are used to playing on

(01:56:25):
the road. Their home games can be road games. I
think the Chargers covered this thing. I think this is
a really good, hard hitting football games. Still think the
Rams win. I think it's close. Didn't take the Chargers
and the points. Lions take on the Patriots. Patriots are
seven point favorites over the Lions. Done done, done, Dune

(01:56:47):
taking the Patriots and the points. Don't think home field
is an advantage in Detroit. Remember the Jets win in
there and walloped the Lions. No reason to think that
the Patriots won't do the same. And the Seahawks welcome
in the Cowboys. Yes, the Seahawks were four and four
last year at home for a reason. I'm not buying
into the Seahawks. I'm buying into running the football has

(01:57:11):
always remember Romis, your Rams team would beat the Seahawks
by running the football, shortening the game, playing good defense,
getting after the passer. Seahawks aren't healthy. You're not healthy.
You're not that good. I don't care about home until advantage.
Given the Cowboys. Five there it is five NFL. Let's
go five college five for five with Doug Gottley. We

(01:57:35):
have some injury news for your fantasy team that's coming
up in the press. Next on The Doug Gotlip Show.

joins us on The Doug Gotlan Show here on Fox
Sports Radio. How much different is it for you to

(01:57:57):
go to work too? And oh, everybody feeling good, everybody
happy as opposed to years in the past. It feels
a lot better. I'll tell you that. Man. You win
and changes everything, and um, we're playing for something. You know,
early in the in the year, you know everybody's playing
for something. But you know, like when you get to
the middle and you know you you're not gonna make
the playoffs, things like that, it's tough. Of always early

(01:58:20):
on it feels good, but you know, also it's when
those starts as starts that I've been a part of
that I've been in the league. It's been good. Man.
We look forward to the money Light Game, having a
promtom game and hopefully the ball roll. If you missed
anything from The Doug god Leaves Show, you can always

well not anymore. With True Price from True Car, now
you can know the exact price you'll pay for your
next car. So visit True Car and enjoy more confident
car buying experience the press, dan By or let's uh,

(01:59:01):
let's close this thing out with all the stories today.
Go alright, Jets Browns game last night in the NFL Network.
You alluded to it earlier to the highest rating for
the NFL Network only broadcast since with eight point six
million viewers. It was a Vikings Cardinals game way back
when in that drew a higher mark, But that's for
the NFL Network only exclusive window. Aaron Rodgers and Marcus

(01:59:24):
Mariota saw listen to this question, well, Dalvin Cook out
for the Vikings. That could change some people's pick with
the Vikings or not. I just think the Vikings are
that much better than the Bills. I was like the
Vikings next week against the Rams regardless, as long as
they're relatively healthy, because I think that Rams Chargers game
is gonna be a high level game. Get Latavious Murray
and your lineup if you will, If you have, Dalvin

(01:59:45):
Cook on your team, pick him up, hey quickly. Titans
tackled Taylor Lawan, expected to return from a concussion and
play against the Jaguars. L want old reporters today that
head coach Mike Vrabel was really supportive during this most
recent concussion, in fact telling them days before there we
two game against the Texans that he wasn't going to play,
saying it doesn't help a concussion if you're gonna sit

(02:00:05):
there and worry about playing. Said he did not receive
the same treatment when he suffered a concussion. In so
throwing some shade on the old Ken Wizzen Hunts Mike
Malarkey tenure in Tennessee. Uh well, listen to the NFL
obviously is having to evolve on how they deal with
concussions and having a new coach who was a former
player and a more recent player. I think that that

(02:00:26):
that helps, and Mike Rabel obviously a guy who's been
through the rigors. Falcon safety Damante CAZy find ten thousand
dollars for his hit on Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in
Week two. It related news Panthers wide receiver Tory Smith
find the exact same amount for unnecessary roughness after he
retaliated against CAZy following that hit on Cam. Yeah, I
feel like light on. It's the finest light on Casey.

(02:00:48):
And uh, had they had they had they find CAZy
the right amount fifty dollars for example, that's what you
really you wanted to deterrent for a defensive player like that.
Big Games, No, Cam, We're onto college football. Big game
this weekend in Waco, Kansas. Jayhawks two and one enter
Big Twelve play at Baylor. Doug Jayhawks haven't won a

(02:01:11):
Big Twelve road games since October fourth of two thousand
and eight. Does it happen this weekend? I mean this
is rebuild time for Baylor, and Baylor stinks like last night,
but they're playing and they're playing a lot of young players. No,
I do not think it has, Maverick said coach Rick Carliles.
Is forward Dirk Davitski is likely to come off the

(02:01:31):
bench this upcoming season. And you see who he said
he's gonna start at the four, Luca dun Check. How
about that Harrison Barnes and Luca don Chick and as
the three and the four. Uh. The NBA adjusted some
rules for the upcoming season. Love this adjustment, resetting the
shot clock to fourteen on an offensive rebound. It really
speeds the game up that they do it in FIBA basketball.

(02:01:52):
It's a good rules adjustment. And Tiger Woods has an
ego put on eighteen. If he makes it, he'll have
the lead to himself after two rounds of play of
the Tour Championship. Currently at six under, Justin Rose has
the lead at this moment at seven under. Bards who's honey, teen,
He's gonna line this thing up. He's got about for
the eagle. Eagle would give him the lead. He just small,

(02:02:15):
standing in some great trousers and the green shirt, the
wind blowing us so and this is going to go
right and toe to the left of the hole. And
he missed it, bag it out there and pressed. That
was the press dandie Tiger win? Um sure why not? Yeah?
Why not? Yeah? Right? Like if Tiger wins to end

(02:02:35):
the season, that would be pretty pretty amazing considering how
the season starts, right, which is kind of it kind
of speaks to the hip the idiocy of college football
where you lose the game in the first couple of
weeks and suddenly your season's over. What's the purpose of
improving when that's the whole point of being on a team.
Should be a great sports weekend. Hope you enjoy it.
