(00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Boom, What Up America,
Doug Gotleave Show, Fox Sports Radio. Man, we got a
lot to get to Huh, Cowboys stink, Texans stink, Patriots stink?

(00:45):
Who Chargers kind of stinky. To be quite honest with you,
rams good. Although I will guarantee right now I have
a pick that I have been sitting on all year,
and those Sunday would lead you to believe that you
should stay away from the pick. It actually reinvigorates this pick.

(01:07):
It is a a first. You are welcome, Pick of
the Year. Welcome in, Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio.
Who do we got to do? We? Uh, we got
a lot to get to. Man um, you know what
I get tired of. I get tired of people saying

(01:27):
and you probably are like this, Well, we do it
that way because that's the way we've always done it, right.
Don't you get tired of that? You know, Listen, we'd
love to change, but this is the way we've always
done it. Times change, viewing habits change, listening habits change.

(01:47):
We're involved or die world. And I think it's amazing
what's happening in the National Football League. The machismo of
the past, the machismo of the sport, does not allow some,
does not allow some to evolve within the sport. And

(02:07):
I compin point to Clay Matthews and Jimmy Garoppolo as
both helping make my point. Jimmy Garoppolo hurt torn a
c L probably m c L m R. I today
out for the year. Clay Matthews second straight game with
a really really hurtful um roughing the pastor called because

(02:30):
he used his weight in some level and landed on
the quarterback. This time had happened against Alex Smith. Here's
Clay Matthews after the game on the roughing call. And
I think a lot of people don't like you know,
I think they're getting soft and you don't know. Anything
hard about this league is the fines that they let
you down on guys like me to play the game ward.

(02:51):
So I don't know. I mean, I'm just gonna keep
playing hard. You know, maybe now pass rushers, guys, you
have the quarterback, you just have to attack the ball,
which is you know, I'm playing this game for over
twenty years. That's how you tackle. So we'll see. I mean,
you know, something's gotta change because you know, at least
not Yeah, here's the thing, Clay Matthews hits both the

(03:13):
past two weeks. We're textbook tackles on the quarterback. The
thing about those textbooks are they're no longer being used
in school. Look, they don't teach cursive in most schools.
Why would you teach cursive when kids aren't going to
write stuff anyway? Everybody just types things. The textbooks that

(03:37):
kids use now are a lot of them are just
available online. This is like, I mean, the newspaper industry,
you know, ultimately was the downfall of the newspaper industry.
Obviously people say the internet, but that's because they think

(03:59):
it's you can get news from some places for free
on the internet, and that's part of the story. The
reason that newspapers became less valuable resources for information wasn't
the quality of print journalism. No, it was not. It
was because of the classified ads. That's what happened classified ads.

(04:21):
When you used to need something, hire somebody, buy something,
trade something, you'd go to the classified ads. This is
in the back of the classified section or sometimes the
business section in the newspaper. Then Craig's List, among other things,
and eBay came along and there was no longer a
need for a class the classified ads. There was no

(04:41):
longer that automatic income, and with people not putting ads there,
there wasn't the same readership. When the readership went down,
the ability to generate sponsorship dollars or ad dollars went
down as well. People read just as much as they
used to. They just get their inform ation from different places.

(05:02):
A lot of us in the media, we use Twitter
not just to converse with you and you and you,
but instead is a news feed and the second you
click on something that's behind the pay while you're like,
I'll find the story somewhere, it's free correct. And that's
where clever organizations that got out of ahead of it
knew how to sell digital stuff, knew how to funnel
traffic to their digital site, and charged based upon the

(05:25):
number of views, which of course has given birth to
some of these aggregate sites that don't actually write anything.
They just find clever stories and then put a link
on their site. You go to their website, you click
on the link, and they get credit for somebody else's work.
The point is that the media is not going away,

(05:47):
it's just evolving. Textbooks aren't going away, they're just evolving.
They're changing. The way we look at stories of the
past continues to evolve. The way we talk about the
the dynamics of different pre World War two, post World
War two conflicts has changed. If you're in a school

(06:08):
district where they're using the same textbook as when we
were kids, you're probably alarmed and you're probably going to
your board of Education saying we need new textbooks. And
that's what the NFL is doing. I'm not saying what
claim Matthews did the last two weeks. Over the last
thirty years in the National Football League aren't characterized as clean,

(06:29):
good football tackle hits. They are absolutely are. The problem
with it, though, is that the textbooks have changed a
cynics to Buddy on a scenic stool. Buddy on Saturday

(06:50):
night and we're watching Organs choke job against Stanford. That
was a choke job. They simply take a knee or
hold on the football. They beat Stanford instead, stay Aford
comes back and beat some miraculous come back at Austin Stadium.
We will talk a lot of college football, most of
it tomorrow, Mark Slaver, it's gonna join us upcoming in
twenty minutes. The biggest upset of the weekend was by
Old Dominion, who started the year losing to Liberty fifty

(07:12):
two to ten. Just beat Virginia Tech by two touchdowns.
I will also talk some Tiger Woods and we'll talk
to some Cliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech head coach had another
at probably I think the biggest road win of the
year in college football, and they beat Oklahoma State boon
Picking Stadium, his first win over Rockland status head coach
Texas texts we got some college football talk about we're

(07:32):
watching and he said, you know, Ford, he's only gonna
sell two cars in five years. I was like, what
do you mean. It's like, what we're gonna sell trucks?
You canna send l s, sell s u v s,
But the they're gonna sell a focus and they're gonna
sell Mustang nothing else. Why is that because the textbooks
for how you make money as an automobile maker in

(07:54):
the United States have changed. People are still buying automobiles,
they're just not buying cars. They're buying trucks. They're buying
things that are considered SUVs or super gas saving some
sort of bubble where you can almost run it back
three times in a row, and then it goes forward.

(08:16):
You need something electric, you need a truck, you need
an suv. That's what you really need to make money
as an automobile. And they're sticking with the Mustang only
because therefore they gotta make the Mustang kind of thing
they gotta do. So you can sit here and tell
me those are textbook tackles, and I'll just tell you
the textbook has changed. And what happens the spinoff from

(08:39):
it is people start to claim that there's safety involved
in avoiding these type of tackles. Take Adam Gaze, who
said this about William Hayes's injury. William Hayes will be
out for the season. He towards a c l on
that on that sack. You're just trying to not put
body weight on their quarterback. So it's look at caught

(09:00):
in the ground. Just tell me what happened. Look, I
think Adam Gates has done an outstanding job with the
Miami Dolphins. They're three and oh that came from behind
again and and beat the Oakland Raiders in Miami this
past weekend. But this goes along with the Jimmy Garoppolo
thing right in the Jimmy, what Jimmy Garoppolo was doing,

(09:22):
he could have just gone out of bounds. But Jimmy
Garoppolo sign the biggest contract anybody'd ever seen, and he
was just trying to show, Hey, I'm a football player
making a football play, trying to show my team that
I'm tough. That dated philosophy is going the way of
the Dodo, just like the dated philosophy of wrap up

(09:45):
tackle a guy, put him into the ground and put
your weight on him. And if he gets hurt, oh well,
if Jimmy Garoppolo gets hurt, oh well, here's the thing.
Jimmy Garoppolo is so valuable, makes so much money that
the Niner season is effectively over. And the truth is that,

(10:09):
much like William Hayes, if your knee tears because you
plant it the wrong way running full speed with no
one else hitting it, the likely it is it probably
would have torn anyway, that's your knee. Your leg probably
wasn't all that sound. I mean, Jimmy Garoppolo, he just
planted and cut and his knee blew out. My guess

(10:31):
is that there was some sort of weakness in that
knee before that play, and blowing it out is more
of a more of a symptom of that weakness. But
instead of football being under attack and I can't believe
these rules, and we're making the NFL soft. Look the

(10:53):
NFL and their evolution of rules, it's like the old B. A.
S F commercials, Remember those. We don't make the things
you have do in life. We make the things you
do in life easier or better because if you consider
the alternative, right, if the alternative is, hey, we don't

(11:13):
call those penalties where you might happen to drop weight
on a guy when you're tackling him. If Alex Smith
was out for the year with the broken collar bone,
if Mitchell Robinski is out with a broken collar bone
or with the broken rib, what's the reaction, Well, that's football,

(11:36):
Sorry now about it. The textbook has changed, all right,
textbook has changed, and this happens constantly in history. Who
was our enemy is now our friend, and who is
our friend is now our enemy. The way we look
at wars has changed now that we have more information.

(11:59):
If you're still using the same text books I twenty
years ago, shame on you, not shame on that old
textbook for being wrong. And the NFL is simply saying, hey, man,
team's entire seasons are wildly dependent upon their starting quarterback
being upright, And if we have to fall, if we

(12:20):
have to, if we have to be on the side
of being a little bit soft as opposed to being
a little bit tough, we'll do that. You know why,
because last year was a disaster when we lost so
many quarterbacks. Mark Slayers will tell me if I'm soft
three times. The Bowl champion is gonna join us upcoming. Plus, man,

(12:42):
we got a great show. Bobby Wilder, who's the old
Dominion head coach? How do you lose to Charlotte last week?
Beat Virginia Tech by two touchdowns? This week, Peter Jacobson's
gonna join us, Tiger freaking Woods. Cliff Kingsbury is gonna
join us, but coming up next, alright, we gotta get too.
Why do the Patriots stink? Did the Cowboys make a

(13:05):
mistake cutting Dez Bryant? And uh, the Rams look great?
But man man, was that a costly win? For arguably
when healthy the best roster in football. That's upcoming. But first,

save Doug Otlip Show Fox Sports Radio. Mark Slayer was
a three time Super Bowl champion. He's also an NFL

(14:50):
on Fox analyst, and yesterday he called the Cardinals and Bears.
The Bears go into Arizona and get their second straight
win of the year. Um stink um, give me your
sense for Mitchell Robinski. I mean, obviously their defense is
dynamic and getting after the passer, but what about quarterback play?

(15:12):
Is it good enough for the Bears to get to
the playoffs with as curly constructor Doug No. I mean,
that's the short answer, um. But I think one of
the things that they wanted to emphasize, you know, and
talking to Matt Maggie and and he's just a really
dynamic there's some young dynamic coaches. Sean McVeigh, Matt Maggie.
I was so impressed with him as well. And everybody

(15:34):
wants to compare the kind of the the um player
arc if you will, Patrick Mahomes to Mitchell Drabinski and
what negge. You know. His whole comment on that comparing
those two is understand that one that Petrick Mahomes had
a year in that offense in Kansas City. He also

(15:54):
had a mentor in Alex Smith that spent a ton
of time with him. Even though Alex Smith knew that
eventually he was going to get usurped vibe Mahomes, he
gave him the time. He really worked on the offense
with Mahomes and everybody else in that offense had been
in for three or four or five years. So you've
got a completely new offense that with a young quarterback

(16:18):
and all the players. This offense is new too, so
it's gonna take some time to progress and um, you know,
I mean it takes time as a player. You don't
know what you don't like until you run it a
couple of times and like, man, I hate that particular
call in that area of the field or in the
red zone there, I hate, you know, getting in this formation.
And until you run it and do it and have

(16:39):
you know, either success with it or failure in that case,
you don't really know what you like and what you
don't like. And so that's the learning curve that's going
on right now. He's got to be better. They all
know that. He knows that Rosen came in, couldn't leave
him to a comeback through a pick late. What's your
read on if they start Rosen week four? Oh they're
they're ready, Um there are ready to start him. And

(17:01):
you know, I think the thing that you look at
in Arizona right now is there's some mistakes of plenty.
You know, there's across the line of scrimmage, there have
been mistakes. There's been mistakes in blitz pick up, there's
been a mistakes in in hot reads and things of
that nature. But I think the biggest thing is Sam
Bradford can't extend to play um if he is not protected,

(17:21):
he has to throw it away. He can't. And the
one play he tried to extend uh Khalil max strip
Sack fumbled him. You know. So I think what they're
looking at right now is we need somebody that can
create off schedule. We need somebody that's dynamic enough to
when things break down, to scramble around by us some
time and see if we can shake somebody loose. So

(17:42):
I think that's what they're looking for. And you know,
ultimately I think they go in that direction. I think
they name Rose in the starter, and I wouldn't frankly,
I wouldn't be surprised to see Sam Bradford get released. UM.
And and you know they have Mike Glennon there as well,
and Mike Glennon become the backup to hum To Rosa,
So you know, I would I wouldn't be surprised to

(18:03):
see that at all. This week, Mark Layris joining us
on the Doug Gottlip Show here on Fox Sports. Trader
just called the Bears win over the Arizona Cardinals yesterday
on Fox. UM, here's what I said about the Clay
Matthews hit. And there's been other hits of its kind.
I understand that those that those are textbook ways to
wrap up a quarterback and take him to the ground.

(18:25):
But uh, you have kids. I have younger kids, and
a lot of kids don't even have textbooks anymore. Right,
textbooks have changed, if they even have the textbook, the
physical textbooks. The idea that what's been good the last
thirty years is still good now it's not. And the
league has made a cognitive and very obvious choice to

(18:47):
protect the quarterback above every other player on the field
and either evolve or or or the punishment for it.
Is that fair? Yeah, I think it's fair. I mean
I don't. I don't like it. I think anybody likes it.
I think sometimes common sense prevails, you know. Um, but
that's the directions they've gone in. They're gonna try to

(19:08):
protect their assets. Come on, look at San Francisco right now.
San Francisco lost Jimmy Garoppolo. Jimmy Garoppolo, and I know that,
you know it was on the sideline, It wasn't from
a hit. But he's gone. And now like everybody in
San Francisco is like, well, seasons over, you know, we
move on. And that's the way the league is constructed,
especially with the way the salary caps are constructed now.

(19:30):
So I get, I get the point, I get the
number one commodity, I get you know, the franchise face,
I get all those things. UM do I like it? No?
But it is the way it is, And you're right,
you're gonna have to adjust. There are some plays though,
I don't know how you adjust to him, you know,
I don't know from what the right answers. I guess
when you hit him, you've got to roll to the
side and and hope that your body lands first. Um.

(19:52):
I suppose that's the way you're gonna have to do
it from this point forward. But I think defensive coordinators,
defensive coaches are gonna have to have a discussion about
this and and you know, hitting and twist kind of
like a rugby tackle, if you will, and they're gonna
have to adjust to that. I'd be fashionate to see
if that's if that's the adjustment, because because you can't
because anybody says, well, you can't go take out you

(20:13):
can't just go take out their legs. You can't touch
him from the neear below, can't touch him neck or above.
Is a very it's a very small and evolving target
area for for the quarterback. Mark Slayers joining us on
the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. I know
you called your own game, and so you gotta kind
of catch your breath before you before you kind of
start to break down other games. But uh, the Patriots

(20:37):
last night forget their defense, right. People have made points
about their defense. Their offense can't get going. You know,
your double team, your double team, Gronk, and there's no
one who seems to be winning now, Josh Gordon, we
would assume at some point in the near future will
be playing. But are are we willing to say maybe
maybe the Patriots are over? I mean, I've I've very

(21:00):
hesten saying it, but boy they were bad last night. Yeah,
they looked awful. UM, And I think you're right in prossessment.
I would tell you the other thing. There's very few
guys that ever were kind of the actuators of offense
that played wide receiver. Um. You know, I can point
to Heinz Warp was kind of the energizer, the actuator

(21:21):
of the offense at Pittsburgh. UM Steve Smith in Baltimore
and Carolina was kind of the attitude provider, you know,
the the guy that got them going, the guy that
the offense kind of flow through. Doesn't happen very often
in New England. It's unquestioned in my mind. It's Julian Edelman,
and when he does make his comeback after a suspension,

(21:44):
I would expect things to settle down a little bit
for that offense. But he is the guy that brings energy,
He's the guy that brings attitude. He's the guy that's always,
you know, picking a fight. He is that guy. And
like I said, it doesn't happen very often from the
receiver position, but you can see that offense misses the
energizer that is Julian Edelman. When they get him back,

(22:07):
I expected to stabilize. One thing about New England is
they've started off slow before. Maybe not this slow, but
they've started off slow before um and figured out their
role in their groove. I expect that to happen at
some point, but I really think that Julian Edelman is
going to be the key cog that gets them rolling
on the offensive side of the ball once he returns.

(22:29):
Dallas Cowboys don't have much of an offense outside of
Ezekiel Elliott. How much of this is on Doc? How
much of this is their personnel? Well, I mean, obviously
obviously their personnel, I think is what you point to. First,
Doc hasn't played well and and you know that's it.
That that is, I mean, that's just a fact. But
I think a lot of it can be pointed the personnel,

(22:50):
and I think a lot of it can be pointed
to the issues they've had up front. You know, losing
Travis Frederick to um yam beret syndrome, um Zack Martin
hurt his knee in preseason. He hasn't been the same
rookie left guard flow Out excuse me there there Smith,
their left tackle, Smith flows Out Adams. That was a

(23:12):
flashback to the back of the day. But you know,
he's had chronic back issues. So that was really the
one group they could count on to say, hey, let's
just go out there and thunder punch somebody in the
face and you know, then we'll set our play action up.
They don't have that key part of their offense right now,
so it is just accentuated the fact that um, you know,

(23:32):
outside the numbers with the receivers, those guys haven't developed
and they can't rely on you know, let's just go
ahead and control line of scrimmage. Let's go ahead and
beat people up and then we'll figure it out along
the way. So they've they've just kind of lost their
identity in my mind. Last thing, the Tampay Buccaneers take
on the Pittsburgh's yours tonight. If you're coaching or you're

(23:54):
in the front office of the Tampay Buccaneers, knowing that
Ryan Fitzpatrick he's had these hot streaks before, generally the
league starts to figure him out. You have Jamis Winston,
who financially is your quarterback for this year and for
next year. What do you do week four? Um, well,
tell me how tell me how Patrick fitz Patrick place

(24:14):
tonight like for me? If he continues to to play
the way he's played, and I think the thing that's
been different for me, Doug is one you know, we've
seen him make mistakes in the past. He has been
is accurate as any quarterback I have ever seen. The
first two weeks with off platform throws. When things break down,

(24:36):
he could be scrambling to the right, he can throw
one back across his body. You know from a side
arm angle with a little flick of the wrist, and
it is money. I mean it is thrown it into
a milk carton. And those were the throws that used
to get picked off. Right now, his accuracy is unearthly,
it is. It is crazy how many off platform, on

(24:58):
target throws he has made to keep drives alive, to
throw touchdown, to make big plays. If he keeps throwing
them like that, and they're awkward looking, go back and
look at them, just incredibly awkward. But they I mean
he couldn't throw them. They are a perfect time. So
as long as he keeps doing that, um, he'll keep
playing well. If he keeps playing well, there's no way

(25:19):
you can go back to Jamis Winston. I don't think.
What do you do if you're Pittsburgh with Levian Bell?
You trade him? Yeah? I think, I mean, I think
that writing is on the wall. You you haven't negotiated,
you haven't gotten anything done. You've got to get rid
of them. See what you can get formed, whatever it is,
and you move on. Mark Layras three times through a
bull Champ. What do you got this week? I have

(25:41):
got the Seattle at Arizona this week. So by Arizona
run continues. We'll see if we have we'll we'll see
we get you get Rosen and of course Seattle coming
off their first win, but they made trade Earl Thomas.
It's all kinds of mess there, so they'll be surprobably
some breaking news in the very in the coming days.
Staying thanks to my If you're joining us, enjoy a
couple of days at home. Thank you, buddy, I appreciate it.

(26:03):
That's stank Mark Slayer at three times Super Bowl champion

It's bringing Dan Buyer, who host the Fantasy Shows Sunday
Sunday Fantasy Show Sunday morning a nine to eleven East

(26:23):
Coast time, six to nine eight West Coast time. What
you got, Dan Dog? Second place in the NFC West
up for grabs, forty Niners confirming the quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
toward the a c L at his left knee. And
now we'll miss the rest of the season of course
that division playing catch up with the l A Rams
you were just talking with, Think about Arizona and Seattle
facing off in week four. Forty Niners in that mix.

(26:46):
Now confirming Jimmy Garoppolo out for the season. Richard Sherman
also out for a couple of weeks with a with
a calf injury. Correct, Yes, same thing with Rams corner
Marcus Peters about two to three weeks because of a
calf strain, according to the NFL Network, Steelers fucking there's
eight fifteen Eastern time tonight. To wrap up Week three,
New York Daily News saying that the Jets reached out
to the Steelers about trading for running back Levian Bell,

(27:09):
who continues to not sign his franchise tender. Packers defensive
Liman Mohammed Wilkerson needed surgery to repair his injured ankle
and could miss the rest of the season. Falcon Safety,
what's up? Yeah, right, Like like this is this is
one of those we finally went out and spent money
and the guy last two games. The significant injury is

(27:30):
the term that Mike McCarthy made, NFL Network saying, though
it's likely one they will cost him the season. Falcon
safety Ricardo Allen done for the year with the ruptured
achilles tended. Some news from college football, the second safety
they've lost this year. Yeah, they've had a tough time
in the secondary. They've actually been Okay. They had Desmonds
or found a couple of years ago, suffered an injury.
They picked up for him. But now losing a couple

(27:51):
of pieces like they have Keian O'Neill and uh now
Ricardo Allen. Yeah, very tough. Ohio State ruled out defensive
en Nick Bosa for their game Saturday at Penn State
following surgery to repair a court injury. The Athletic quoted Boston,
his dad is saying he'll be out until at least November.
And TV ratings for yesterday's final round of the Tour
Championship the highest they've ever been for the event. NBC's
broadcast of Tiger Woods victory came in at five point

(28:13):
to one, which was two hundred percent higher than the
ratings for the events. Okay, let's talk about this that
Dan Buyer, Dan, you know what if you can bring
down to the music, if you would their ramos, Let's
talk about the Tiger thing. Okay, Um, there's a there's
a bunch of parts to it. Let me just start
with the most amazing part that had Rory played decently

(28:35):
yesterday and finished in the top five, Tiger would have
not only won the event, he would have won the
FedEx Cup and won ten million dollars in addition into
the purse that he won. Was the person buyer for
for the Players Championship? That's the biggest I think that's
actually the biggest person, bigger than the majors for the
the Tour Championship yesterday. Yes, well, um, I'm not sure

(28:56):
what Tiger one for his but the ten million dollars
for the FedEx Cup, right, so it's ten million dollars
plus what Tiger won. He I mean, like again, had
Rory played decently one point six millions, yeah, he would
have won eleven point six million dollars Instead, he just
wanted to go were one point six? Now? Does it?

(29:16):
And let me ask you, Buyer, you're much more of
a golf guy. I have my own answer, my own
thoughts on it. Does it take away at all from Tigers?
Come back from the story that they're only thirty golfers
and as you pointed out last week, we got the
Ryder Cup. This was not There was still some very
good players in the field, but it was not as
loaded a field as generally the Players Championship is. I

(29:38):
will say this, I don't think it waters it down
for the simple fact, Doug. It's not a limited field.
It's not chosen. It's a field that needed to qualify.
So if he wasn't good enough, he wouldn't have been
there in the first place. Meaning he's not just getting
there because he's Tiger was No, no no, no, I don't
mean he'm getting there. I mean the competition like look,
Billy Horschell, dj A, Decie Metsi, Yama Webb Simpson, Justin Rose,

(30:03):
Ricky Vaaler, Justin Thomas, Rory McElroy, Tommy Fleetwood has had
a great year, John rom Paul Casey, Tony a Final.
You know, you know who who's had an unbelievable year,
Like look they're right, Jason Day. This was a These
are name players. But you know the thing about golf
is you know when you got it's it's easy to
go against thirty, then it is to go against a hundred,

(30:25):
correct correct, But it was and I and I used
this as the example. Tiger has his tournament in December
where they have eighteen players. They used to play it
out here in southern California. Now they do it like
in the Bahamas, where they just pick eighteen guys and
it's not random. They try to get high names. But
the point, Doug is, you're you don't have to qualify

(30:45):
for that event. This one went from one to one
hundred to seventy five to thirty. So it's not like
Tigers was just out of the blue, and even though
it was thirty players, He's it was almost a longer
process to get to that point. Okay, that's that's that's
that's fair. Um, alright, so then this is the classic.
And I hate doing survey radio and if you want

(31:08):
to know what I like and what I don't like,
there are people who do radio shows who every day go,
is this the greatest comeback ever? Give us the coal
eight seven seven NA NA in facts right, Like, we don't.
We don't do that here, but I do think there's
a discussion for how how incredible are how improbable within
just the context of this year, the comeback is right

(31:32):
like this is to finish second in the FedEx Cup
standings after missing the cut early on and looking like
a complete master. Forget about the fact that you didn't
played last year because of the back second back surgery,
because the back fusion to finish second the FedEx Cup
standing is amazing. Um but do you are we going?

(31:52):
Are we going greatest comeback of all Are we okay
going greatest comeback of all time? Here I put the
I pumped the brakes on that. Okay, So who's who's
comeback was better? Or do you not think this is
a comeback? Considering Teddy Bridgewater's leg almost needed to be
cut off. He's not a starting quarterback in the NFL,

(32:13):
but he made it. But he made you know, he
made at least back to the NFL to play and
to start. Um. I I I just I think that
that it's it's a great story and it was so
great to see yesterday. I don't have a comeback on
top of my head to think about it. I just
think that, you know, it's been just an interesting and

(32:35):
it's all the twists and turns that have made it
so intriguing that maybe we think it's the greatest. I
don't know if that makes any sense. You're going to
Teddy Bridgewater is a greater comeback. Yeah, Tiger one five
times five years ago. It was five years ago for
two years old. He looked awful to start the year.
Last year he had before the additional back surgery. Remember

(32:57):
he had the chipping yips, right, and he his putting
this weekend was unbelievable, unbelievable. Now, part of that is
he was third and driving you know, so when you
drive it well, you're obviously and your second second SHOT's
gonna be closer to the whole, you're gonna put it better.
But puts in regulation one point one point six four
or six puts in regulation that those are ridiculous numbers.

(33:18):
And he was third in driving accuracy, which is which
is usually usually his downfall is his driving accreas. Yeah,
I think I'm just hesitant just because the immediacy of
it to automatically put it number one. I'm with you, Ramos.
Can you think of a better comeback like Agassi was
in the two hundreds and came back to being the
number one ranked player in the world. M His issues

(33:39):
were self self induced, right, he remember he had He
apparently came out in his autobiography and say he was
he was on math actually would you consider suonor Williams
a comeback since she had a child, that's kind of
a comeback. She's had other times. She's had other times
where she's been ranked in the two hundreds. Um, yeah,

(34:00):
I would consider to come back from having from but
uh yeah, but she did not have the sustained issues
the litany of injuries that Tiger has, as as Dan
points out and accurately. So in two thousand thirteen he
won five he was player of the Year, I believe,
and he won five tournaments. But that was five years ago.

(34:22):
He's forty two years old, and we would think older
players would get worse as the arduous season rolls on.
He got better. He went from non competitive early to
nearly winning the p g A Championship, and then won
the Players Championship against a stellar field, and I mean
he dusted the field to where yesterday he was not

(34:43):
taking nearly as many chances. And then he almost won
the FedEx Cup, which is remarkable in and of itself.
So he was consistently a really good player late in
the season. Music, you got anything you want to throw
in great comebacks, I would go with maybe Peyton Manning. Okay,
coming back from neck surgery, the surgery and having the

(35:03):
fifty touchdown year and ultimately winning a Super Bowl when
he was bad. Yep. Um, there were people that wondered
if Peyton Manning was done. There were people that said
Tiger Woods was done, that was that would be the
change there there. It's different in an individual sport than

(35:24):
a team sport. Yes, and there's some that may not
think that Tigers he's even the best in golf because
Ben Hogan was almost run over by a truck and
in a severe car accident. Was he run over by
a truck or was he almost run of he almost?
Was he run over and he almost died. He was
in a in a in a serious car accident, almost

(35:44):
lost his life. Yes, I saw that story yesterday where
people were, um, there's a lot to it. There's so
much to the story. Go ahead, all right, I just
I don't want to take away from what he want.
Breath and pause. That's completely reasonable, dude. I'm not I'm
not getting on you for that because it was awesome.
I mean, and what have we done for the last

(36:05):
you know, six or eight months, even you know, when
he was in contention, it's always just like, yeah, this
was great in that scene yesterday. I know, like Ramos
tweeted out a picture and you were I mean it
was it was crazy. What what a scene? It was
really really incredible. And oh yeah, by the way, to people,
to all those younger golfers are like, I'm not scared
of Tiger Woods anymore. How'd Ricky do yesterday playing with

(36:26):
Tiger Like it's I'm excuse me, I said, Ricky. Rory
Roy shot what a seventy four And Rory who prodigious length?
He was he was playing army golf. Army golf off

of the reason that the Browns decided to draft Baker

(37:07):
Mayfield number one overall. Part of the understated part of
Baker Mayfield. He studies hard. He's a football savant and
he's all in on the mental aspect of the game,
no doubt about it, you know. And the thing that's
really cool about him, and I respect, and I've been
around some really good quarterbacks, is the fact that you know,
he he came in when once he was drafted, he

(37:30):
wanted to start. You know, he was walking on Texas
tax he walked in Oklahoma, started each time, started the
first game you expected to start, you know, week one
this year, you know, and of course he didn't. But
now he prepares as he's the guy. And and and
that's you know, you can't really teach that. That's just
an inner drive in internal fortitude that makes him why

(37:54):
he had a good game and why he was prepared
and why he's gonna be good going forward. If you

The game today is big deal, little deal? No deal?
All right, Doug, Big deal, little deal or no deal?

(38:42):
That Tom Brady just through for one dred and thirty
three yards in there to ten lost to the Lions
last big deal, especially because they were trailing the whole day.
Usually when you're down thirteen nothing, you know, you know,
you start chucking and ducking and there just wasn't anybody
open to throw too. Yeah. When they then when they
did have the ball, was it like five minutes in

(39:03):
the first half as well? Their defense couldn't get off
the field. Awful night last night. A big deal, a
little deal or no deal? That The New York Jets
have reportedly reached out to the Steelers about trading for
running back Levian Bell. This according to the New York
Daily News, that's a big deal because they have a
bunch of cap space where they could they could assume
his current contract or redo his contract and still find
the may to make it work. I don't know if

(39:23):
it makes a ton of sense, uh to you know,
to make him the highest paid running back in football
with that team with because they need to rebuild the
offensive line. But it is a big deal, big deal,
a little deal or no deal that Seahawks safety Earl
Thomas says he will practice when he feels like it
to protect himself, that's a big deal. That's Earl Thomas going, Look,
I'm just gonna keep playing games until you trade me.

(39:45):
Even talking about the Cowboys coaching staff saying they're gonna
trade for him, he just he it's such he's such
an issue for this football team. They should be feeling
good about the win that they had yesterday. Instead they're
answering questions about Earl Tom. Yeah. I just a quick
side don that. I have no problems with veterans sitting
out practice. We see it all the time in the
National Football League. It's just weird that it's coming from

(40:07):
the player. I mean, it's in it's it's just a
different feel anyway. How about some college football big deal,
a little deal and no deal that Clemson has tab
freshman Trevor Lawrence is their starting quarterback, replacing Kelly Bryant.
That's a big deal. He does appear to have a
lot of what anyone would be looking for in a quarterback.
Big deal, a little deal or no deal. That Carmelo

(40:28):
Anthony said this about possibly coming off the bench this
upcoming season with the Houston Rockets. I haven't had that
that that conversation yet, you know, with anybody. But like
I said, everything that I've been talking you know, talking
to people and talked about too. Like I'm I'm very
clear on on on what my role is. I'm very

(40:50):
clear up my role is what do I come out
the bench? I'm not really all that clear on that
because we haven't had that conversation second straight year at
a media day where him coming off the bench because
him is an interesting topic. Last year was pretty funny.
Uh finally, Doug big deal, little deal or no deal
that Timberwolves dead coach Tom Thibodeau is still giving Jimmy
Butler Tom and space to think about his future. This

(41:11):
isn't the first time we've had requests for players to
be traded, so anytime that happens, you know, you you
look at what's available and if it makes sense for
the team, and if it makes sense for the team
we'll do it, but Jimmy needs about a week, and um,
we're gonna give that to him. Does he need a week? No, look,

(41:32):
I think he did. They just don't want it to
be a fire sale to give him away. But the
idea that the owner, Glenn Taylor, wants him gone and
they just redid Carl Anthony Town's contract gave him the
biggest extension the history of the team. The handwriting is
all on the wall, but Tims is trying to play poker,
but he does not have a good hand. This is

(41:54):
game time on the Duck Gottlieb Shows Monday Night Football.
It was Chicago Bears taken on the Arizona Cardinals. Danny
Green was the coach of the Arizona Cardinals and he
uttered the famous words, they are who we thought they were.

(42:15):
They are who we thought they were, and we let
him off the hook. Dak Prescott is exactly who we
thought he was and the Seahawks did not let him
off the hook. That's next in the Doug Gotlip Show.

scanning reports on people? You know? Ramas? Do you believe
in sc When when I came to work here, did
you get a scanning report on me? Uh? Yes, you did? Yes?

(43:03):
And what was it? Hard worker? Likes to get things,
likes to get involved in sports, you know, doesn't want
to go off a tangent and a lot of things,
but wants to talk about the issues of what's going on.
So okay, But I do like scattering reports. I use
it for softball scout. But what about like people scatter

(43:24):
reports on actual people. I kind of like to know
a little bit about somebody before I meet them, if
I can just kind of get a fill bullet points
kind of right, Like, Uh, Susanne, ever set up when
you do a couple's dinner and you don't know the
guy at all, and I mean you go in blind?
Do you say, hey, you know, No, I don't like
to go on blind. I'll tell Susanne, can you tell

(43:45):
a little bit about him? Like, you know, what is
he like? What is you know? Things like that. I
don't want to just sit there and try to guess
at somebody. M Um, I feel like whether it's you're
you're you know when you're dating obviously, if if you're
getting set up with a girl and somebody says she's
got a great personality, right, yeah, what if she actually

(44:06):
has a great personality, Well, that doesn't seem to matter.
It's interesting. I was, I was going back yesterday and
I was what I was reading this. There's a scatter
port here on Dak Prescott from when he when he
came out of Mississippi State got named Charlie Campbelly. Can

(44:28):
go online check out his scatter report. Doesn't mean it's
completely accurate, says um. Strengths flashes, pocket passing, flashes, accuracy, flashes,
field vision, flashes, anticipation. There was a very catchable ball.
Capable arm, can make all the throws, good mobility, can
pick up yards in the ground, has some pocket presents.
Good teammate, great teammate experience against good competition, gritty, strong

(44:50):
leadership skills. Weaknesses inconsistent accuracy, inconsistent field vision. Needs to
get faster with his eyes, needs to learn about working
on center. Needs to develop for pro style offense. College
offense inflated stats. College offense, ran a lot of plays.
He won't run the NFL. He's inconsistent. Comparison Donovan McNabb,

(45:13):
what's a little strong? Some comparisons to Tim Tebow, same
offense that he ran, Dan Mullins, same offense. Right. Um,
if you're starting to date a guy and you're a woman,
and you ask your girl friends and they're like, look,
he's I mean, like, look, he's a good looking dude,

(45:35):
but at some point he'll he does take you for granted,
he's narcissistic. Um. Now, he's good looking, and he knows
he's good looking, and he's kind of a ladies man.
And the first three months, first three months, he's totally
locked in, and then you start to realize that every

(45:56):
conversation becomes about him, And then you start to realize
that he does have a little bit of wandering eye
that when you're at dinner with him, his his phone
does seem to light up with women's names, people texting him,
and you start to wonder. Dak Prescott is exactly who
you thought he was coming out of school. He's a

(46:18):
slightly better version. When he's surrounded by good players. He's
a slightly better version because he's had three years of
good experience in the National Football League's gonna make anybody.
You've been a starting quarterback for three years, you're going
to be a better version of the guy you were previously.
But Deak Prescott to steal from Danny Green, is exactly

(46:43):
who he thought he was. He's not great under center,
He's not terribly accurate. He's got a strong but not
a cannon for an arm. He's athletic, but he's not
a freak. He's good, but he's not great. And he
was drafting the fourth round and maybe he dropped because
he got a d u if the draft, but he
dropped from what a third round draft grade. Now, all

(47:08):
of the Cowboys failures so far a one in two
team and they haven't Man, here's the thing, Like this
is important to point out there one in two and
they hadn't played Panthers are pretty good, but not like
they played the top schedule in the world. Right, It's
like one of the things I would costion you about
the Rams Ramos and they following in love with the Rams,

(47:31):
that the Rams are really really good. But it should
be pointed out that the Rams have three wins over
teams with a combined one win, So anybody beats up
the bottom of the league, plus you get your confidence
going whatever. And I think the Rams just gonna tell
you right now I would pick the night. I would
pick the Vikings straight up on Thursday night. Now, I

(47:55):
thought the Vikings would win a laugher over Buffalo. But
even even the Laws, the embarrassing home loss to Buffalo
makes me think even more of the Vikings. They're gonna
come in. Remember they didn't have Dalvin Cook. I guess
Dalvin Cook plays. The Rams lost both of their cornerbacks
keep the league sprained his ankle and Marcus Peters heard

(48:16):
his calf, and then Andrew Whitworth had some sort of
minor surgery. He ain't playing Thursday night. If you saw
the Rams play, they were helped by the Chargers not
blocking up, you know, not knowing how to block from
punt that was one touchdown. They were domin the offensive
line and where it's a huge reason why. And then
they have to lockdown corners so when you get when

(48:38):
they get a lead, they're gonna get after the passer
and turn you over to their pass rush and their
corners to your top two corners are both out against
Stefon Diggs and Adam Dealing. Yeah, I don't like I
love the Vikings on Thursday night. But anyway, Cowboys haven't
played a great schedule and they're still just one and two.

(49:00):
Dak Prescott is exactly who he thought he was, exactly
who he thought he was. He's a good leader, he's
got a good arm. He shows some flashes, but he's
not consistent. He does not read the entire field. He
does not process well enough to be considered an elite quarterback.

(49:21):
And then you factor in that the offensive line is
not what it should be, and then you factor in
that they don't have a number one or a number
two wide receiver, and this is what you got. This
is what you got. Dak Prescott is exactly who you
thought he was. He might have fooled some of you

(49:44):
his rookie year, he did not fool me. He's thrown
for over three yards three times in his career. Great,
you know, and you can sit there and go like, hey, yesterday,
Russell Wilson didn't nobody's arguing Russell and set the world
on fire. Nobody's you know. You can go through the
league and point to other when you have fewer possessions

(50:07):
teams that But the point is how much do we
have to see Dak Prescott to go? You know, the
Cowboys could be very much in the market for a
quarterback this year. And it's a weird year because the
teams who are are likely to be drafting that at
the top of the draft. I mean, we don't believe
that the Bills, that that's what they did this weekend sustainable, right,

(50:29):
So if it's the Bills and the Jets, the Browns,
the Texans, the Raiders, I mean, only the Giants if
if it, if it holds are in the market for
a quarterback, Atlanta is not, Carolina is not. New Orleans

(50:50):
is not. Arizona is not. And they look like they are,
you know, bottom of the league team, the bottom of
the league. All those teams have quarterbacks. It could be
your which the Cowboys are in the market for a quarterback.
But isn't it fascinating that at some point Gino Smith
had this to remember Gino Smith, now he didn't fool

(51:11):
anybody in the NFL, but Nolan no Rocky came out
with this with a scattered report for Gino Smith and
everybody defended Gino and said, how did Nolan rocky? And
then you watched him play and how he handled and stuff,
You're like, oh, that's exactly who he is. It doesn't
mean they're always correct, but more times than not, you
get a guy whose sole job is to uh is

(51:34):
to find a quarterbacks weaknesses and you're gonna you know,
you're gonna nail it. You're gonna nail it. Speaking of relationships,
can we stop something here. I've heard this on several
other radio shows and on several TV shows. The Hey,

(51:57):
they shouldn't have gotten rid of Dezi Bryant now out.
I think their offense would probably be better with Dez Bryant.
But the league seems to think that Dez Bryant is
not as good as Dez Bryant or you would think
he is. That makes sense. I'm not sure if this

(52:18):
may make sense to you, but but to me, the
league is sitting there going, hey, um, no one's picked
up des Bryant and plenty of teams need to need
a wide receiver. So before we sit there and go,
you know what the Cowboys are missing is Dez Bryant.
The league seems to not be missing Dez Bryant at all.

(52:41):
By the way, Nolan Iraqi's UH draft breakdown, the guy
he said would be a superstar he is. Carson was
Carson Wentz, same draft. So sometimes guys miss on people.
Sometimes sometimes scattering reports are a little bit off. The
scatter of Forard for Dak Prescott seems to be accurate.

(53:03):
Really good leader, pretty good quarterback, pretty good athlete, pretty
good body, pretty good arm. Can be accurate, mostly inaccurate.
Doesn't necessarily read and scan, pick up and throw guys open.
And that's what he is with the Dallas Cowboys. He's
exactly who he thought he was. The biggest upset in

(53:27):
We'll get to the biggest UH the guy who authored
the biggest upset in college football. In the second first
breaking news the national football from Fox Sports or Doug
Morris Starting quarterback news Arizona Cardinals main it official. You
talked with Mark Slur earlier. Now, Steve Wilkes, the Cardinals
head coach, announced that Josh Rosen will start Week four
against the Seattle Seahawks after replacing Sam Bradford Layton Yesterday's

(53:49):
lost to the Chicago Bears. I talked to an NFL
front office guy and said the Bradford tape has been
embarrassing now, maybe because when they played the Rams, he
was getting beat up all all day and you look
in the second half when he should be letting ripped
and he wasn't even reading a defense. He was just
checked down, Charlie. But but I would guess that unless

(54:10):
they can find a taker less of San Francisco Fort
and I should sit there and go, hey, we need
a quarterback and we'll give you something for him. I
would guess that, much like we said about Tyrod Taylor,
Sam Bradford, this is the last time he'll be QB
one heading into a season. Ever. I agree, ever, and

(54:30):
Bradford good guy. And some of it was is because
his body didn't hold up. And look, some of the
animosity towards Bradford was he was the last quarterback onto
the old CBA where he got fifty million dollars up front.
But some of it is just, hey, you know what,
you want to play the position. You gotta have the
fortitude to step up, step in, throw the ball downfield.

(54:53):
How do all the minion go from losing to Liberty

Doug Olive Show, Fox Sports Radio. What a weekend? What
a weekend in college football? I mean he army and

(56:47):
almost beat Oklahoma on the road. That was crazy, went
to went to overtime. They did not. So that means
that the biggest upset, the biggest upset in college football
had to be had to be one that oh just
be honestly, we did not did not think would happen.
This is the Doug Otling Show on Fox Sports Radio.
We got a jam pack show for you. Should be

(57:10):
pointed out that we're gonna get to Cliff Kingsbury, Texas
tech head coach in about one hour. But Bobby Wilder's
our guest, he's the head coach of Old Dominion, and
they took down Virginia Tech, Virginia Tech in their own
home turf, and it was that. It was a huge game,
a huge win for the entire university, but especially Bobby.
I know for you and your football team. What's it

(57:30):
like now on a Monday after that win Saturday night? Yeah, Doug, thanks,
I really appreciate you having me on it. If forty
eight hours later, it still hasn't really sunk in the
magnitude of of what happened. This is being called one
of the biggest upsets in the history of college football.
It's one of the biggest moments in Old Dominion University history,
especially for our sports team. And just something Doug that

(57:52):
when when you're part of it, Uh, it's hard to
explain the emotions and what you feel. When you're looking
at something from the outside you can only imagine, but
to be right in the middle of it, it's just
such a surreal feeling. All right, help me out. Um,
you go back two years ago and you guys had
like a dream season playing the Bahamas Bowl. Last year,
not as much. I look I know it's really difficult

(58:14):
at the Q level, especially you guys stepping up from
FCS to FPS. But what were your expectations of this
team coming into the season. They were really high that
we have twenty two seniors coming back, um, some really
good football players, and we started out the year and
we just could not put it together. Doug we we

(58:35):
we didn't play more than fifteen minutes consecutively in the game.
Early in the year. We lost a couple of really
close games where we we lead. Traditionally, we've been one
of the best one score teams in the nation, were
traditionally very good one score games. We lost a couple
of one score games. So there was a lot of
frustration with this team after three weeks going into this
Virginia Tech football game. Yeah, I mean, like, look, you

(58:58):
lost a Liberty fifty ten eilis to Charlotte. I know
they started up a football program, So how do you,
I mean, how do you how do you walk into
the locker room and every coach I think, looks at
film and looks at their teams. There's a path to
victory here. But give give me your give me your
sense of how you're able to concoct a message to
the team to have them believing. You know, any coach

(59:20):
is gonna sell them we can win every week, but you're, oh,
in three huge home game. What you say to them
to make them believe that they could accomplish what they accomplished. Yeah,
great question, Doug. It started last Sunday with what I
presented to him. I called it the anatomy of an upset,
and we went through some of the great upsets. I
used the example from the United States hockey team in
the Miracle when we beat the Soviet Union when we

(59:43):
had no shot, and we talked about how it happens
and what I had said and was number one, we
hadn't played very good football. All due respect to the
teams we played, we hadn't played good football at Old Dominion.
Number two. This was an historic game. We don't have
professional sports dug in Virginia, so Virginia Tech football is it.
All of our kids look at Virginia Tech football almost

(01:00:04):
in awe of that program and how successful they've been.
I said, here comes a nationally ranked team into Old Dominion.
We've never been a Power five, We've never beat a
ranked team. We haven't beat Virginia Tech. They beat us
thirty eight to nothing last year. So the number one
thing we've got to do is believe we can do it.
Come up with a game plan together all of us
players and coaches. We did that. We had good energy

(01:00:25):
from the start of the week. Then we talked about Doug.
Something significant has to happen at the start of the
game that gives us energy and gets our fans into it,
and that happened. We scored early, so we got that
first touchdown out of the way at seven seven after
the first quarter, and then I think one of the
biggest players of the game, Doug. Right before the half,
we're down fourteen to seven, and our freshman corner Geronda Hall,

(01:00:47):
intercepts a pass and we go eight yards and score
with four seconds to go before the half. So now
it's fourteen fourteen. The places going crazy, Our kids are
are running off the field into the locker room thinking
we can do this. And the last thing I said
to him is we have to be within striking distance
in the fourth quarter, and we were. We were down,

(01:01:08):
and then we were just going to cut it loose
in the fourth quarter. Nothing to lose, probably a little
bit of tension on the other sideline because they're supposed
to beat us badly, and that happened. We outscored them
to seven in the fourth quarter to win. You could
have taken a knee in the fourth quarter. Instead, Jeremy
Cox took that first down carry with one thirty four left.
I think through the line, you forty yards for a touchdown. Um,

(01:01:32):
look like, look, I mean it's not throwing the football, right,
That's kind of what befell them. They gotta lead before
the half. They decided to throw it, you pick it off,
you end up tying the game. But was there a
thought in the side, I'm like, hey, let's just take
a knee, let's win this this thing before you end
up calling that hand off to Cox. No, that was
completely my mistake, Doug. I was looking at my sheet.
I have a sheet that says time out's time left

(01:01:54):
when you can take a knee, and I had it
at one with them having one time out, and what happened.
There was one forty five to go, but they had
just used their time out. So right after that run play,
as soon as he was getting ready to run the ball,
I realized, looking at my sheet, we were going to
take a knee the very next play, and as as
fate would have it, Cox just broke three or four tackles,

(01:02:15):
was running like a beast and scores a touchdown. Uh,
you got you gotta tell me about Blake Larusa. I've
read where he grew up Virginia Tech. You know, Virginia
Tech fan obviously, and uh he had I mean, you
want to talk about a historic night and obviously didn't
play in the Charlotte game. But what did you do
to your offense to allow him to be so successful? Yeah?

(01:02:38):
What we our offensive staff, Doug came up with I
thought just the perfect game plan. We said, the only
way we have an opportunity to have success against this
defense is we've got to come out and throw the
ball early in the game. We have two fifth year
wide receivers, Travis Fulgum and Jonathan Dohard, who both had
nine catches for a combined three hundred and thirty yards
and four touchdowns. They're both infel prospects. We're gonna have

(01:03:01):
to create man demn matchups and we're gonna have to
throw the ball up to him and at six three,
they gotta go get it. Virginia Tech had a couple
of younger corners and we had success early. Now Blake
didn't start. We were going to go in and alternate
the quarterbacks and if somebody got hot, um, we would
go with them. And then all of a sudden, Blake
Larus's right hand was completely on fire this entire football game. Yeah, yeah,

(01:03:24):
I would say that that's what he did signifies being hot,
right coach, like could be Like we had a quarterback
in two thousand twelve, Taylor Heineke, who's now the backup
um quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, throw for seven hundred
and thirty three yards against New Hampshire in a game
set the all time record. LaRussa goes uh for four

(01:03:46):
hundred off the bench. He's now, Doug, if I can
say this to you with a straight face, He's now
the starting quarterback University. But that was the plan was
we had to get the outside throws versus man because
Bud Foster has got so many intricate blitz is that
we were having a hard time picking them up. Blake

(01:04:06):
was getting hit a lot, but our our guys were
making plays and then that allowed us in the second
half when they went to more zone coverage. Then we
had an ability to run the ball. So the plan
work perfectly, throw it as much as we had to
do in the first half and then start mixing the
run in the second half. Um okay, but here's the problem. Now,
no one's gonna want to play you at your place.
I mean, I know you guys are expanding, you guys
expanding the stadium too. Right for you, guys, We are

(01:04:27):
going to do an incredible expansion to this uh, to
the venue. But now you know, good luck getting Virginia
Tech or anybody of their out from the a SEC
to come in and playing on your field. Well that
we have, we have eleven more years in the series
with Virginia Tech, of five more at our place and
six at their place. And for the listeners that might
not know where we're located, we're on We're in coastal Virginia.

(01:04:49):
There's one point seven million people in this area and
this is a hot bed for recruiting Doug. They call
it the seven five seven. So Virginia Tech football was
built on on Michael Vick and at two on that
team that lost to Florida State in the National championship,
and they had so many starters and great players from
this area. They also have a huge alumni base down

(01:05:11):
here and Doug. So that's how this series got started.
We've had We've had series Doug with with North Carolina,
with North Carolina State. We've got a home and home
with Wake Forest coming up. A lot of people want
to come here and play us because of the recruiting
and their alumni basis. So I'm hoping we can keep
that going. Even after this game. I wanted to come
and play. Wanted that's that's that's past, especially Blake having

(01:05:35):
another year of eligibility. All right, Now here's the here's
the big question. How do you how do you get
the kids focus? You gotta go to East Carolina. That's
always a tough trip. It's a league game, but more
more than anything, like you know, they go from they
go from down the dumps to Kings of the Universe.
I'm sure they've watched the highlights over and over and
over again. How do you get them refocused? Yeah, we

(01:05:57):
we talked for after the game. Dug it. It was
such a historical moment that I wanted them to enjoy
it and I wanted them I said to them, try
to try to put this in some different compartments in
your brain, some special things that you remember from tonight.
Don't ever forget this. So when they come back twenty
years from now with their families, they can say, hey,
this is they can say to their sons and daughters,
this is where your dad was part of history. And

(01:06:20):
we said, let's do that for twenty four hours. And
then last night we we flipped the page. We practice
this morning practice on Monday morning, and we had a
great practice. And what I noticed, Doug, was that they
had some confidence in themselves. They felt good about themselves. Imagine,
for three straight weeks, you go to work every day
and you just don't feel good about yourself. And that
was part of it. Now we know East Carolina is

(01:06:41):
a really good team. I mean, they just took South
Florida to the to the wire in a game that
they dominated statistically. So it's gonna be a challenge this weekend.
But at least four right now, we've got some confidence
and we feel good about ourselves as a football team. Well, listen,
congratulation on the win. Uh, it's one that Look, all

(01:07:02):
I was doing was score watching and watching your program.
And I said on Friday, I saw on this story.
I said, no way, and then of course I look
like the dumbest idiot on earth as you guys end
up waiting, how did you lay on Tech? Go ahead?
I I don't actually bet, but I there are there
are listeners that that are searching for my home address,
and and they they're not very happy with Coach Wilder,

(01:07:23):
thanks so much for joins, congrats on the wind and
say travel's best to luck at East Carolina. Thanks. I
really appreciate you having me on. Have a great day.
That's Bobby Wilder, who's the head coach. Re memory, he
took over. He was at Maine for a long time.
It was a Maine and then he took over and
helped take this program from FCS to FBS. They went
to Bahamas Bowl a couple of years ago, but they
were down the oh and three, not really in a

(01:07:44):
couple of early early early season games and they beat
Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech quarterback got hurt. They after the game.
They end up getting rid of their leading pass rusher.
They had some personnel issues. Man crazy Saturday, Let's get
to dann I or find out what else is going
on in the world sports. What you got Dan, I
picked the ODU player a few years back in that

(01:08:05):
Daily Fantasy and College Football. I had to watch the
game ESPN three, you know, on your phone, and I swear, Doug,
they had one camera, like there were no like cuts
to the field. It was just the wide angle of
the field the entire game. I think was that on?
Was that on stadium? I think it might have been.
I've done get I mean, listen, I do games occasionally

(01:08:26):
for Stadium Sports and they do them, they put them
on Facebook, and I think that was one of them.
I really do, and they it's it really is. It's
stripped down. It's like four cameras or whatever. Uh, and
it's a It's a fun thing to do because you
basically get paid to go to a game and then
just talk. There's something, you know what I mean, you
do your boards and all other stuff. Anyway, I think that,
but you're right. I was. I just remember watching the score.

(01:08:48):
I'm like, what in that hell is going on? And
then I realized that it was at o DU. I
was like, well, maybe they got a chance. And then
when they when they ran the football and look it
happened to Oregon. What happened? He ends up scoring a
touchdown with one forty to go in the game. Late
Oregon Dows does the same thing and they got their
their up and they end up fumbling and look and

(01:09:10):
the game goes over time because of it. That Oregon
loss is one that sticks to your ribs for years.
Probably never goes away your Oregon anyway. I do have
some college football news to pass along. Clemson to having
freshman Trevor Lawrence is their starting quarterback. Ohio State ruling
out Nick Bosa for the Penn State game this Saturday.
In fact, Bos's dad told The Athletic Nick Bosa may

(01:09:32):
not return until at least November after having what he
calls major surgery for a core injury. So that's the
latest on Nick Bosa in college football. Lots happening in
the NFL. The Arizona Cardinos just named Josh Rose in
their starting quarterback for Week four against the Seahawks, replacing
Sam Bradford. Baker Mayfield officially named their starter for the

(01:09:52):
Cleveland brown So they got the Raiders in Week four. Well,
the forty nine is no longer have Jimmy Garoppolo is
their starting quarterback toward the a c L and his
left knee, and we'll miss the rest of the season.
TV ratings for yesterday's final round of the Tour Championship
the highest they've ever been for the events. NBC's broadcast
of Tiger Woods victory came in at five point to one,
which was two percent higher than the twenty seventeen ratings

(01:10:15):
for the Tour Championship. Doug back to you, Online car
shopping can't be confusing any more. True Price, fro True Car,
and you can know the exact price you'll pay for
your next vehicle's visit True Car. You'll enjoy more confident
car buying experience. Am I wrong? But did Kawhi Leonards laugh?
Is that that the worst laugh in recent it's do
we have Kawhi Leonards laugh? Yeah? Actually I actually grab
at this point, I just gotta grab it really fast, Okay,

(01:10:37):
John Ron Wilto grab it. There's a bunch of things
to talk about. Fire. You mentioned the rating for for
Tiger Woods, which was what did you say, five point two?
That was was five point two? The just the visual
of all of those thousands of people following Tiger down
eighteen that's basically all of us turning our television sets

(01:10:58):
on a Sunday and Doug there's there's times where there
are events that won't let fans on the course, especially
because if it's tight there could be a playoff. You
don't want to have fans walking on the fairway. But
because he had the league the lead to allow that moment,
Oh what a visual it was. He was. Also he's
also the last group to he's also the final sure.
But if you only had a one shot leader was tied,

(01:11:20):
you're not gonna let the fans walk up. You would
need you'd keep them off the fairway because they may
have to play the eighteenth hole again to have a playoff.
But because he had the lead, they're allowed to at least,
you know, he wasn't gonna triple bogeye. The part five
that was that's that's an unbelievable scene. That's all of
us walking back to golf. We're like, all right, we'll
come back, We're coming back. We'll watch golf now. Thank you.

(01:11:41):
Tiger Woods. Simply a remarkable, remarkable scene. Um, okay, a
couple of things that I wanted to get to. Oh now,
almost do you have the entire KWHI leonor quote quote
or just the laugh, just to laugh. I just grabbed
the laugh, okay, and then maybe grab the entire quote
after we So, Kawhi Leonard was there's media day is
across the NBA, and Kawhi Leonard was asked about what

(01:12:05):
type of guy he was and at the end of
a response to which he said, like, you know, you're
gonna have to ask me more questions than just like
I'm not gonna sit up here and tell you like
I walk, you know, I like pina coladas and and
you know, and getting lost in the rain or whatever
was it was getting caught in the rain, getting lost
in the rain. I forget the words of the song. Anyway,

(01:12:27):
here was his laugh. There's a little jay Z laughed
to it, right, a little jay Z laughed to it.
Um raise your hand if you've ever heard Kawhi Leonard

(01:12:48):
say anything ever before. Everybody's got their hands down here,
Like I didn't know. I thought he was mute. I
thought he did sign. I thought he was a mime.
He was all, wait, wait, Kawhi Leonards in a box.
He's in your box. You're you're you're happy, You're not happy.
I can't. So we're gonna do this again to Kawhi Leonard.

(01:13:10):
We're gonna do to Cowhi Leonard what we did to
John Gruden last week? Um, who else did we do
it to last week? We used half the quote. It
was Gruden. There was somebody else we did it too.
You know. Gruden said, hey, pass rushers are hired a
good great pass rushers are high to find. And it
was like, oh, and then when you listen to the
whole quote, I was like, oh, well, he said a

(01:13:30):
lot of it is college football guys that you can't
get home because they get rid of it so quickly.
We have a couple of guys who we think are developing.
There by the way, they have the worst pass rushing
in football. So um, but we only used half the quote.
Somebody else who had a quote music you don't remember
who was? I'm John a blank. But you weren't here

(01:13:54):
on Friday. I don't remember if it was Friday as well? Well,
we did. We did the exact same thing. We only
only Kauais quote today will be Hey, I'm he was
asked about resigning next year and he's like, look, I'm
gonna take it day by day and so everybody's all
he's out and now he may be out, and that
maybe what he's telling us, But that wasn't all that

(01:14:18):
he said. He said to take it day by day.
I think we're all winners here. My goal is to
win a championship. Win a championship. You gotta do that
day by day. If you if you worry about I
think it was like, if you worry about next week,
you'll trip on tomorrow or something some sort of cliche
like that. So let's let's not do that. Let's not

(01:14:40):
use half the quote. No, he did not say I'm resigning,
but he doesn't have to say that in order to resign.
He's like, look, I just got here. I haven't had
a practice with the team yet. Can we have a practice,
we play a couple of games. How about we play
half of the games, then maybe all of the games,
then the playoffs, and then I can decide what I
want to do. But we're gonna take the quote of hey,

(01:15:06):
I'm taking a day by days. He's out, he's out, out, goodbye, goodbye,
all right, coming next, I want to play for you.
What did the fox say? Man, we have some really
really interesting stuff. Wait until you hear what Colin Cowherd

(01:15:31):
had to say about the Patriots. That's up coming next.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Dot
Leap Show weekdays at noon eastern three pm Pacific. Previously
on The Jug God Leap Show. Check this ouse Rick
Buker from Bleacher Report. What's changed that now all of
a sudden, guys like you know what, I want to
go play for the Clippers. I would say it starts

(01:15:53):
with it's l a, It's Pete Balmer, and we have
a generation now when you think about it, I mean, look,
the Clippers still continue to find ways to be the Clippers,
but they're not the Clippers of the Donald Sterling era.
They have been a playoff team. They aren't a big

(01:16:13):
market in there. There is the element that first attracted
Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets, which is I can
be the guy that becomes the legend for the Clippers,
because they don't really have one. If I'm the if
I'm the guy who leads them to their first finals appearance,

(01:16:34):
I could do something as opposed to the team across town,
whereas you gotta win at least two championships, stetisticates your
name on the board. The legacy of the Lakers. I
think in some ways could be working against it. If
you missed anything from the Doug godlib Show, you can
always podcast by going to Fox Sports Radio dot com. Now,

(01:16:55):
once again, here's Doug Godlieb. Every day. At this time,
we like to for you a portion of a show
earlier on Fox Sports One or Fox Sports Radio. We
call it here's Colin Cowhard talking about the Patriots phone
to one and two. We've never seen this guy AG move.
Josh Gordon was absolute desperation by the Patriots. Pretend for

(01:17:19):
a second you're Tom Brady. You're looking around at your team.
You don't pay anybody, you're taking pay cuts. Is Tom
Brady ever going? Where's the money going here? Anybody thought
about that? The l A Rams are apparently using a
bank in Zurich that prints money, and the Patriots are

(01:17:40):
using a credit union that's tapped. Because Gronk makes pretty
good money, Devin mccordy makes pretty good money, Stefan Gilbert
makes pretty good money. But who are they paying? Josh
Gordon wasn't a CAG move. Josh Gordon was absolute desperation
by the Patriots. I desperate, listen, desperate times, desperate measures. Now,

(01:18:02):
I don't think anyone argues with the talent of Josh Cordin,
it's the ability to to stay right on the straight
and narrow. It should be point out they knew they've
had They've known they've had problems. They've brought in and
cut six otherwide receivers who have had success previously like
these are not surprising problems. And the Patriots have have

(01:18:24):
for the past couple of years used the first month
of the season as a testing ground, let's see what
we got, and right now what they have is not
good enough. I'm not going to dispute that there wasn't
some sort of desperation, but again you have to factor
in that they've made it work with troubled players in
the past. They're dealing with Julian Edelman being suspended. They've

(01:18:46):
had some other issues um in which they've had players
come in that they wanted to take a look at
and they've been injured or haven't been good enough. But
the Patriots have problems. On the other hand, the Patriots,
and in a division to which I don't think right
now the Rodney dangerfield the NFL is the Miami Dolphins.

(01:19:06):
There are three and oh and they get no respect.
The New York Jets don't appear to be anywhere near
that of a playoff team, and there's a reason that
Buffalo as a was a seventeen point dog before dominating
the Minnesota Vikings. I want to so desperately say, hey,
the Patriots are over, but I got fifteen years of

(01:19:27):
data to tell me otherwise. I'm very concerned. But I'm
also intrigued to see if Belichick can make Josh Gordon work,
and if Belichick can make Gordon and Edelman a dynamic
combination to take the pressure off Gronk in the near future.
Then there's Chris Carter, who had this to say about
Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs so far this season, We've

(01:19:48):
never seen this guy do it, so talking about what
he can do into the future, just be careful, like
we've seen this kind of movie before. Do they have
great personnel, Yes they do. Do they have one of
the best play callers and managers of offenses in pro
football history? And Andy Reid? Yes, But if you want
to talk about some NFL numbers, what I believe is

(01:20:08):
gonna hurt him is that defense. What he's been on
to benefit from is because they have such strong personnel,
and they have the second best tight end in the
league and Kelsey. They have a combination of wide receivers
and skilled guys that I believe is the best. But
we don't know what is Pat Mahomes gonna do when
he faces adversity. What is he gonna face when we

(01:20:30):
get halfway through the season. Maybe he's not as mobile
because the wear and tear of every quarterback and this
is first time around the league as a starter. All
those things we don't know. But we do know every
quarterback that's go off to a fast start like this,
there's a correction coming to him. We'll see. I mean, look,
they got Broncos on the road. Uh, then they return

(01:20:51):
home for the Jaguars, a very good defense. Then they
go to the Patriots not a great defense, Bengals Broncos
at home, where they get the Browns. I'll point out
that their ability to start fast is a huge, huge
reason they've been so successful. And the Niners have no
one to blame but themselves. They Uh, they had a

(01:21:12):
big drop on I think it was second down, the
second down of the very first drive of the game,
and the forty Niners end up hunting and then of course,
Kan's City has like eleven play drive and they score.
They're able to stay on script and stay on time.
I'm intrigued to see what Mahomes does when he's faced
with adversity. I'm intrigued to see what he what he

(01:21:34):
does when there's a pass rush that comes up the middle.
I love the creativity and the play calling that they've
been able to accentuate so much of the positive. And yes,
the defense is an issue for Kansas City, but one
of the things one of the deals with that defense
is it gives up points and even if they ever
do get behind, allows them to throw more, which plays

(01:21:55):
again accentuates what Mahomes does. He's really really good, and
they are very good at putting players around him. They
have great speed, and they seem to accentuate all the
things he does well with his arm. Yeah, like if
you're if you're doing an NFL rankings, I haven't been
big on the Denver Broncos, and so I didn't think

(01:22:21):
that the Broncos were going to win in Baltimore. They didn't.
You got Miami, you got the Chiefs, you got Tampa.
We'll see if they remain undefeated. And the Rams, the
Rams feel like the best real team of all of them,
the best team in football, but man to the Rams
take take a beating in terms of of injuries. Yesterday,

(01:22:43):
that offensive line for the Rams was utterly and thoroughly
and completely dominant. And should probably point out that the
Rams have played uh three teams with the combined one
win so far this year. Now they get the Vikings
coming in licking their wounds off their first loss of
the season. Yes, Ramos, I thought the Charges played well
though that win. You don't think they played well. They

(01:23:06):
were really good on third downs. I think the Chargers
should be much better. It's it's hard because they lost
to the Chiefs, who are you know, undefeated lost the
Rams were undefeated, but you know, but they have two fumbles,
they had a missed extra point and they get they get,
they gotta, they gottah punt blocked for a touchdown. So

(01:23:26):
those are major issues. And Derwin James, the rookie, he
had that great interception in the first half, but then
he runs out of bounds of the one yard line,
which led to the plot the punt being blocked. He
simply takes a knee in the end zone. It might
be a completely different game. But that's the problem with
the chargers, right s oc Same old chargers, same old chargers. Yes, music,

(01:23:47):
you grabbed the microphone like you want to jump in
on this because I think you were gonna say same
old chargers. No, Doug, that's the part where I grabbed
the microphone because I'm gonna use that button where I
can talk to you and no one else can hear.
I got it. Got it bad about online car shopping

Oklahoma State. But coming up next Tiger is back on

the Ryder Cup. We'll discuss next in the Doug Gotlip Show.

Not yet, not yet. We got college football to talk about.
This hour with Cliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech head coach win
in Oaklham Stake gotta win. We talked some O d

(01:25:21):
U football as they they beat Virginia Tech by two
touchdowns this past weekend. Wow, Stanford comes back and beats
Oregon on the road. Now they get Notre Dame who
changed quarterbacks tons of college football to get to Pat
Mahomes continues to amaze. Jimmy Garoppolo's out for the year.

(01:25:41):
The Rams win but lose a lot of dudes. The
Bills somehow beat the Vikings. You like that? Yeah, And
the world stopped because Eldrick Tiger Woods. He didn't just
win it. This will didn't win a championship. It wasn't
just like winning at a muni. This this isn't even
the the old greater Hartford Open like he went on

(01:26:04):
one tour championship and could have won if Rory McElroy
doesn't shoot a seventy four shoots up and I even
seven shoots a seventy one. He was a FedEx Cup.
What a remarkable, remarkable turnaround. Man Man, Man Man Man.

(01:26:27):
Peter Jacobson's our guest is a former PGA Tour player
and Golf Channel analyst. He joins us here on the
Doug Gottlip Show on Fox Sports Radio. Uh, Peter, before
we get to what we saw this entire weekend from
Tiger and looking ahead to the Ryder Cup, just your
honest thoughts early in the year when Tiger wasn't making

(01:26:47):
cuts and this is remember you had a year last
year before the back surgery where he had the chipping
yips and then he completely shuts it down. What what
were your reasonable thoughts on what we'd see and Tiger
this golf season. Well, first of all, I've got to say,
I'm a two time Greater Hartford Open champion and I'm

(01:27:09):
and I'm also the champion of the US Open in
the movie Tin Cups, So I got that going for me.
Uh Uh, Tiger, this comeback from Tiger is is. I
think it's a sports story of the year. When we
saw Tiger with the chipping yips, we could we saw

(01:27:31):
him barely being able to walk upstairs, sit in a car,
swing a golf club with with such back pain that
I really questioned whether he would be able to come back.
And to see him now progressed through the year, struggle,
struggle through a lot of bad shots, try to figure

(01:27:53):
out his new body, his new equipment, his new approach
to the game, which is different. It's no longer hour
he used to be the most powerful player on tour.
He's no longer. That's Dustin Johnson and McElroy and Brooks Kepka.
But Tiger is a smarter player now. And if he
wasn't forty two, I might think that he's got another

(01:28:17):
another ten tournament wins in him and possibly a couple
of majors. He's he's gotten so smart at what he's doing.
I think he's a better player now, and he's a
more intelligent player now than he was before he beat
everybody with just pure talent. He still got that talent,
but he's a smarter player. Uh And and it's it's

(01:28:42):
what he as you said, it was a remarkable performance
and a comeback, and he almost won the entire FedEx
Cup championship, and he did win the tour championship. And boy,
the people that were there on on the grounds at
East Lake as I was as I was there sitting
watching the show, it blew my mind. It just goes

(01:29:02):
to show you how as they say, Tiger doesn't move
the needle, he is the needle. Yeah, I mean it's
really crazy. Um. I mean the big thing driving accuracy.
You know, his distance is not what it once was.
But even even that, he still has always struggled, you know,
with with the driver. You mentioned the changes he's made

(01:29:22):
to his body. I mean, I think it's it was
described to those of us, you know, Weekend Duffers as
he's more smooth. But could could you you know, without
the help of you know, the visual the visual learning
tools in the Golf Channel Peter Jacobson joining us on
the Doug Gottlip Show. What's he changed with this wing? Well,
first of all, I think I think earlier this year

(01:29:45):
when he was playing and coming back against the young kids,
he he's abandoned the the aggressive, hard swing trying to
get that distance trying to keep it up with Dustin
Johnson and Brory McIlroy. What he's done now is he's
gotten more rhythm and more tempo in his wing. Make
no mistake, he's still as strong as an ox. He's

(01:30:06):
in great shape, and he's still hits the ball out
there plenty plenty of distance to win golf tournaments, even majors.
But what he's done now is he he's a more
precise player. And I've always said that he's the best
iron player in the game. I think he and Kean
Sergio Garcia from the fairway are two of the best

(01:30:27):
players we've seen in a long long time. But the
first thing to do is to put it in the fairway,
and we've seen Tigers struggle with that. We see we
still see Michelson struggle with putting the ball in the fairway.
But once you put Tiger two hundred yards in the fairway,
nobody beats him. His short game is is as good

(01:30:48):
as anybody in the world. And the way that he's
putting right now, with his with his trust the old putter,
I just I just see so many great things for
him because he's over the hump, He's over the men hump.
He's over the physical hump, and I think he's looking
downhill now and he's pretty excited about it. Now you
get the Ryder Cup and it wasn't he hits a

(01:31:09):
no doubt or that he's on the Ryder Cup team. Um,
what what are your expectations for the for the Wryder Cup. Well,
back in the old days, Tiger was so fit and
so strong and so intimidating that he played every match.
There's there's five sessions, there's two on Friday to on Saturday,
and then the singles on Sunday. I would bet the
Jim Purrek, who is forty eight or forty nine himself.

(01:31:32):
He understands that when you get to your forties, you
don't have the you don't have the energy, and you
don't have the strength you do when you're twenty or
in your thirties. So I think Tiger will probably play
three matches. He's certainly going to play the singles on Sunday,
but I think you're gonna see him one match on
Friday and one match on on Saturday, because I think

(01:31:52):
Purrek wants to help him conserve his energy for the
singles on Sunday. I think Michelson will do the same thing.
Don't forget this. This team is so strong and so
powerful because I mentioned earlier guys like Dustin Johnson and
Brooks Kepta and Patrick Reed and Tony Female. These guys
bomb it. So I think that they're going to be

(01:32:14):
able to use their youth and their strength to uh
to hopefully overpower the European team in the early sessions,
sprinkling in a little experience like Tiger and Phil the
first two days and then letting him loose on Sunday.
You mentioned Brooks kept getting some of the other younger,
super talented players, and how if it wasn't for the
fact that Tiger was forty two, you'd think he could

(01:32:36):
win ten more titles. Now. Forty two now is not
what forty two was fifteen twenty years ago. And he's
of course the picture of it. He brought fitness really
um to you know, to the conversation, a top you know,
a top every leaderboard in golf. But he's also created
this kind of group of younger players that are also
fit and are just younger and and and can can

(01:32:58):
bomb a golf ball. So what what's a reasonable expectation
for Tiger heading forward now that we've seen he could
have won the players, he did win the Tour Championship,
and he's showing the ability to be more consistent than
he's been in a long time. He was the guy
that ushered in fitness and training into the game of golf.
I didn't do it in my era, guys after me Aisinger.

(01:33:19):
He didn't do it in his era, Faldo, But I
think Tiger was the guy. I was still playing out
there at the tail end of my career when Tiger
first joined the tour. He was the guy that really
brought this new generation, the guys that work out in
the morning and they work out at night. The strength,
the fitness, the distance, the power game. Tiger ushered it in.

(01:33:41):
But I would say that let's not forget Tiger's headback surgery.
He's also had knee surgery, so he's a he's a
forty two year old, um I think probably I would
say he's maybe thirty five or thirty six stegically, but
don't forget the injuries are a thing he has to
deal with. It's gonna be fascinating. It's so good for golf.

(01:34:04):
I mean, it's it's good for any sport and good
for anybody who says, I, you know, like you think
they're done and they're and they're not done. Um, look,
you know way more about the history of golf than
I do. Ben Hogan the car accident, is that a
greater comeback than we've seen from Tigers just kind of
different because Tiger's come back has been so public and
and because he was such a much bigger worldwide star. Yeah,

(01:34:24):
I think Hogan's was different because Hogan almost lost his life.
He was he was almost killed in a car crash.
Where Tiger obviously has gone through some some medical issues
that we all go through. But for for where Tiger
has been to where he is now back on the
on the top of the world, I would quote the
who song, won't get fooled again, Meet the new Boss

(01:34:46):
same as the old boss. Right now, I would I
would say that everybody in the world would say that
Tiger right now is in the top five and he's
been away from the game for so long and he's
just now coming back. So yeah, watch out for Tiger.
I think I think we can see more victories out
of Tiger in the next three for four years and

(01:35:08):
maybe a major I didn't think that was possible a
year ago, but I'm a believer now. Great stuff, Peter,
thanks so much for joining us. Really appreciate it. And
look the g h O was was I mean now
it's the Now it's it's at River Highlands. I've played
that course. That's the fun course. My buddy Hunter Mayhan
won that one. The Greater Hartford Open is the fifth major.

(01:35:28):
Yeah it is. It is the fifth. It is the fifth.
NBC Sports analyst Peter Peter Jacobson will be the tower
reporter for the Golf Channel and NBC's live tournament coverage
of the Ryder Cup this week Friday through Sunday should
be outstanding. Thanks so much for joining us. A lot alright.
Coming up next, Texas Tech had an incredible win over
mild moder Oklahoma State. We'll talk to Cliff Kingsbury. Texas

(01:35:51):
Tech had lost nine consecutive times to Oaklahoma State. He
had lost all five times he had faced Oaklahoma State.
And it wasn't just to win, it was a dominating
one at that. Plus we get his thoughts on Pat Mahomes,
who he told us last time he was on with us,
was gonna lie up the world ensure enough he has.
Oh yeah, and he's got a wide receiver. Lighten people
up in Miami. Talk to Cliff Kingsbury. He joins US next.

Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Here's how much equity
the Patriots have? It was. I mean it wasn't until
like two minutes to go in the game. I didn't
think they were come back and winning last night, right,
I mean it was three has forever scarts, forever scarts.

(01:36:57):
And that that's what happens when year after year after
of the same thing seems to happen. I'm sure there
was some of that in college football. Look nine consecutive
times Oklahoma State had beaten Texas Tech. N This goes
back to previous previous coaches. So Cliff Kingsbury five straight
years head coach of his alma mater, they had lost

(01:37:18):
Oklahoma State, and yet, man, it sure felt like I
felt like the defense was dominating the game, felt like
the offense and the play calling, how to how to rhythm.
I just wonder when he thought he looked up at
the scoreboard and said, like, you know what, we got
this thing. We got this thing. Um, let's welcome in
Cliff Kingsbury, head coach of Oklahoma State. Uh Their reward,

(01:37:40):
by the way, for upsetting Oklahoma State on the road
is West Virginia, who's undefeated, and of course coach by
uh By by a guy in In Holgersson, who's an
outstanding coach and spend his own time at Texas Tech.
He joined us on the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Cliff couple of days afterwards, Um, let's let's
let's start going into the Oklahoma State game. You obviously

(01:38:01):
better than anybody know the history. Well you're well, you're
kind of keys to victory that you thought your team
would have to execute in order to win the game. Yeah,
I knew we'd had to, you know, start fast. You
play on the road to that place. It's a phenomenal
college football atmosphere and home field advantage that fans are
right on top of you. It's a beautiful facility. It's rocking.
So I knew we had to kind of weather the

(01:38:22):
storm early, which we did. Um and and winning and
a half time and it was a close game, and
made some nice adjustments to the second half and sound
a way to get it done. But that's Uh, it's
been a long time coming. Coach Gunny then to tremendous
job with that program, and is recruited really well, they
developed players really well, and um, it was a good
win for our program. But the two things that you

(01:38:43):
guys were able to do that previously in previous losses
you had one obviously, now he started not uh he
gets stops, but you got you got got home, you got,
you pressured the past, you got to Taylor Cornelius and
you ran the football exception. Well, let's start with the
off and it felt like there was a different level
of creativity with your play calling. How are you able

(01:39:05):
to create decreases and openings for DeMarcus Felton and and
create the time for Alan Bowman your freshman quarterback. It's
just a mature offensive group. They can handle. Um, you know,
a lot of install and a lot of new stuff
that we're putting in a weekend week out. Alan, for
a true freshman, really has a great football mind and
football i Q and each week works really hard at it.

(01:39:26):
So we've been able to expand the playbook a little
bit and play fast and have a few new wrinkles
every week. You know, people are killing me, I point out.
I thought the Lamar game was super important, you know.
You you mentioned starting fast. You obviously did the opposite
of that against Old Miss. You do it in Jerry's world,
and these are kids, and so all of a sudden,
their confidences down. I know you use that Lamar game

(01:39:49):
as well as the Houston game to figure some things
out about your team. What what did you change? What
did you learn? What do those games allow you to
do that helped you on Saturday? Just build confidence. I
think anytime you play one of those first game of
the years, you know, against an SEC opponent or a
quality opponent, Uh, anything can happen. And it all kind
of went wrong early and I felt like our kids

(01:40:11):
played hard and we battled, which are two things you
can build off of. But execution wasn't there. Focus wasn't there.
We just we weren't what I knew we could be. UM,
So you needed those next to really build yourself back
up and show, hey, this is what we really are
when we take care of the football and we execute
at high level. And so it was good for us
to kind of catch our breath going to the conference
and Houston is a really good opponent. They're gonna win

(01:40:31):
a bunch of games. So to get that one under
a boat built some confidence. And then it led right
into that Oklahoma State game. All Right, the defense is
what everybody is talking about. Um, it's not just it's
not just that you only give up seventeen. You you
blank them donut in the second half. You and I
texted back and forth. Was the season everybody's talking about. Hey, text,
got a defense this year? And obviously, oh mr has

(01:40:54):
got a lot of talent. They just threw it up
to some of their They got amazing wide receivers and
you guys turned it over, gave them extra opportunities. What
what's the ceiling for this defense? We'll see we still
have a long way to go. And you know weekend
week out in this conference. I mean, you have a
great offensive minds and great offensive skill that come at
you in a variety of ways and um so, so

(01:41:14):
we're still work in progress, but we have some veteran presence. Now,
we have some guys who are starting to believe and
building a culture, and so we're excited about where it's heading.
We gotta get a lot better this week. We have
one of the best quarterbacks in the country coming in
and in Greer, and he has one of the best
wide receiving corps, and it'll be a huge challenge on Saturday.
It will be a huge challenge. Last thing on Saturday's game,

(01:41:34):
because I know you're a look ahead guy. When did
you know right? Because you know, going in the fourth quarter,
I was sitting there, I'm watching the game with a
couple buddies, like it's over. I know you didn't feel
that way, right, You're still a little tight. You want
to make sure When did you know all right? I
can almost stop listening in the headset. I know we
got this thing. It was until probably two minutes left,

(01:41:54):
we got that last first down and we could take
a knee. I mean, that's a seventeen year stretch of
our program not winning at that place, and so we
we waited till that clock strug zero to start celebrating.
Its crazy. I remember, I'm a crab tree. Didn't Crabtree
drop one in the He had a post and three
oh five I think it was a post and would

(01:42:16):
have won it. Crazy shootout game. Yeah, and but in
that game he already had about two seventy five at
that point. He did, he did, he did, but the
pirate kept throwing the football when you guys had a
lead instead of just he just kneeled it aad of
the football. King's very our guest. I have the Doug gotage.
I want to get to this weekend in the matchup

(01:42:36):
with Will Greer. But um, you're watching Pat, and I
know you've you've told us, you've told the world about
his talent. But what do you see that they're doing
for Pat that's allowing his immense skill set to be
on display. I mean, it's one thing to be three
and oh, it's nothing to throw a thirteen touchdown pass.
He ain't thrown a pick yet. Three games into the
NFL first off, I remember saying he could throw an

(01:42:58):
eighty five yards and you kind laughs it off. But
you saw the preseason throw right were like falling down
and through at seventy Okay, so we cleared that up.
He is, you know, a coach reads, a phenomenal offensive mind,
quarterback guru. And you can tell he's doing things that
Pat does well. He's playing to his personnel, spreading people out,
letting him, you know, get through his reads and if

(01:43:19):
it's not their move around and make plays. And uh
so it's kind of the perfect storm right now. Defenses,
as you know, make adjustments. People are gonna try to
catch up to him, and so I'll be interested to
see the chess match going on. But he looks very confident,
looks very comfortable out there, and having that type of
weapons around you, you know, definitely help. And then you
got Jachim is doing a great job in my great
job in Miami. He's kind of their Tyreek Hill. They

(01:43:42):
seem to be using him in in really inventive in
smart ways. Yeah they are. I remember when he was
coming out, Coach gaze Um calling me and asking me
about him, and I told him he's the most dynamic
player I've ever seen with the ball in his hands.
You just gotta find in different ways to get it
to him, and they're doing that. You know, he's great
in the kicking game and then offensively, um, have you
got him outside doing some some cool things and and

(01:44:03):
just really proud of him. He is as explosive as
it comes and a tough young man. All Right, Lubbock
on a Saturday, and people now all of a sudden,
guys that were out on you, and now I'm sure
all of a sudden their texts like, hey, you know
what can I get those tickets to the Western game?
You got? You got a bunch of new friends. But
it's an early game. I like Lubbock. Lubbock after dark
is way way better for somebody who hasn't been to

(01:44:24):
Tech for a game. What's it like when you're down
on the field, It's it's a great atmosphere. You know,
we have a unique set ups here where it's a
town of about three hundred thousand, but there's about a
million people within whatever a hundred mile radius and they
all pour into Texas Tech and game day weekends are
a celebration of West Texas, and so it's very unique.
It can be hostile at times, and um, it's a

(01:44:46):
great hometild advantage and it should be pretty fun. You
have the sunglasses rock and I'm sure and uh and
and and the scruff. Now do you with the scruff?
Do you have like a certain you have like a
certain kind of beard strimmer that you use it? Yeah,
I'm just I'm not touching it. As long as we're playing. Well,
I'm I'm going all in. It doesn't look great, but
team player, all right, I like that team player. You
may look like Todd Haley by the end of the

(01:45:07):
year for this thing. Thank you for going. Hey, I
just I want to personally congratulation. That was an ass
whooping on Saturday, and I know how much it meant
to you, and I appreciate you join us. Thanks to
appreciate having all Right. That's Cliff Kingsbury, head coach of
Texas Tech. His guys are playing what Keem Grant course
played there. Came from a real tough upbringing, doing a
great job with the Dolphins. And you know Pat Mahomes

(01:45:27):
who he said he could throw an eighty five yards
in the year and I was like, no way, yeah,
way he can. And then they went in and whipped
the Cowboys. We'll see what they do with Will Greer
this weekend. Let's get you Dan Buyer, find out what's
going on. But he got d Big quarterback news in
the National Football League bad news for the forty Niners.
Jimmy Garoppolo done for the season towards a c L

(01:45:48):
yesterday of that game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and
nine is confirmed it today left a c L injury
for Jimmy Garoppolo done for the year. The Cardinals are
making a change at quarterback. Rookie Josh Osen will get
the starting Week four against the Seahawks, replacing Sam Bradford.
Brown's officially named Baker Mayfield their starting quarterback against the
Raiders coming up in Week four. Some more injury news.

(01:46:10):
Falcon safety Ricardo Allen done for the season with a
rupture a chilles tendon, while Rams corner Marcus Peters gonna
misstu to four weeks because of a calf strain, according
to the NFL Network. Week three wraps up tonight Steelers
and Buccaneers at eight fifteen Eastern time. The New York
Daily News says the Jets reached out to the Steelers
about trading for running back Levian bell. Ohio stated coach
Urban Meyers saying today that they won't have Nick Bosa

(01:46:32):
for their showdown at Penn State on Saturday. The defense
Eve End recently had surgery to repair a core injury.
Boz's dad told The Athletic that his son is likely
to be out at least until November because of what
he called quote major surgery end quote. Trevor Lawrence performed
surgery on Georgia Tech this past Saturday, throwing four touchdown

(01:46:53):
passes for Clemson, and now the freshman's there starting quarterback,
replacing Kelly Bryant. Some baseball news Rocky Scratch Tyler Anderson
from tonight start against the Phillies, John Gray moves up
to make the start and NBA Media days everywhere around
the association today and that includes the Lakers and Lebron
James being introduced today is Lebron met the media for

(01:47:14):
the first time since signing with the Lakers this offseason,
talking about the road the Lakers may have to get
back to the top. We're picking up from scratch, so
we have a long way to go. We can't worry
about what Golden State is doing. Gold State is Gold State,
and they're the champions and you know, we put that
to the side. We can only focus on what we
can do to get better every day as a Lakers franchise,
and you know, hopefully someday we can put ourselves in
a position where we can compete for a championship. Lebron

(01:47:37):
today at Lakers Media Day. Starting from scratch, not not
picking up scratch. I mean they did, they'd be that guy,
but I'll be that guy. Right, it is starting from scratch,
she said, we're picking up from scratch. You pick up
from scratch. Started from scratch, yes, fair for scratch, which
comes from scratch, which is actually making food from scratch
means from nothing, right. And this there's an argument I

(01:48:00):
had with my wife because I can make pancakes with
pancake mix or I can make pancakes from scratch. And
she's like, no, no, you're still making pancakes from scratch.
We're making pancake mix. It's like, no, no, no no, no,
that's pre mixed pancakes stuff. She's like, yeah, but it's
in powder form. You gotta add milk or water and
egg and whatever and beat it up. I was like,
if that's not doing the baking sod in the baking
powder and the flour and all that stuff that's from scratch. Anyway,

(01:48:24):
they're starting from scratch, starting from scratch. Have you guys seen,
I mean none of us are hockey fans. Have you
seen what the Flyers have done? Anybody? All Right? So
what you think of you think of hockey, you think
of toughness, you think of my cheesemo? Righte? Oh, these
are great athletes. Then they fight each other. And so

(01:48:48):
the Philadelphia Flyers, the city of Philadelphia by they love.
But it's also you know, it's a lot of love
about Philip. They decided to invent a mascot. And the
mascot's name is Gritty and uh Gritty has his own
uh Twitter handle and I g account at Gritty NHL.

(01:49:12):
It me Gritty. So in addition to looking like it's
a muppet finding a second job, right and and it
could look like a kid's nightmare, just the idea that
a puppet becomes your mascot like that is a that's
a tough one. I wonder how long this guy, it's
a poor guy. I mean, it's probably a phenomenal skater

(01:49:35):
and entertainer and maybe he's really really funny. But just
the idea that this this is not going to go
over well with hockey fan guy. Hockey fan guys taking
a beating over like, oh man, it me it's the
jar jar Binks of of hockey. That's what it is.

(01:49:57):
Jar Jar Binks, by many people's estimation, almost single handedly
brought down the institution that is Star Wars. Gritty could
bring down the NHL. And he seems to at least
talk our type like a like a French Canadian hit
me gritty. So everybody in the NFL is talking about

(01:50:20):
Clay Matthews being called once again, once again for roughing
the passer after Clay Matthews got a sack on Alex Smith,
let's call for roughing. Here's Clay Matthews after the game. Unfortunately,
this leads going in the direction I think a lot
of people don't like you know, I think again soft
and you don't know anything hard about this league? Or
is the fines that they let you down on guys

(01:50:41):
like me who play the game hard. So I don't know.
I mean, I'm just gonna keep playing hard. You know.
Maybe now pass rushers guys can have the quarterback. You
just have to attack the ball, which is you know,
I'm playing this game for over twenty years. That's how
you tackle. So we'll see. I mean, you know, something's
gotta change because you know, at least not that's how
we used to tackle, right, That's how you used to tackle. Hey, man,

(01:51:08):
we used to have expense expense budgets that were awesome.
We could go out and have drinks and have dinner
and just running on the company card. Guess what, I
can't do that anymore forty today, per diem Right, Hey,
we used to be able to you know, we used
to be able to do car service everywhere in the road.

(01:51:28):
Now no, now we rent a car, find your own parking.
Just the even the use of the term textbook. Hey,
that's a text book tackle. We don't have textbooks anymore.
The perfect example of dated team thinking. So I'm not
gonna sit here and tell you. I'm not going to
try and convince you that I have any problem with

(01:51:50):
what Clay Matthews did when used tackling. I don't because
that's how we were all. If you played football, that's
how you were taught to hit. Right, He's not using
his helmet as a weapon. He's driving into the passer
and driving him into the ground. But the NFL is saying, Hey,
that's not how we're gonna do it anymore. They're protecting

(01:52:13):
their most important asset. And yeah, you're gonna there's there's
going to be some other things. You're gonna lose some
games because of it. Guys are gonna lose some checks
because of it. Heck, the Miami Dolphins think they lost
a pass rusher because of it. I don't think so.
I I don't think it was anybody trying to falling awkwardly.
Just freak injury that happened. But that's what we do

(01:52:36):
in life. Because you you've got to consider the alternative.
There every president, every vice president and all their kids
and their families. You know they have presidential protection right them.

(01:52:56):
What's the service called? Uh that protects the president? Secret
Service protects the president? Why do why do they do it?
You know? Long at mean Jimmy Carter, who of course
just beaten back camp big back melanoma that spread to
his brain, like he still has Secret Service protection? Like why?
Because he's our those that's our most important asset. Because

(01:53:20):
it would be uh embarrassing, humiliating to the United States
if one of our leaders, past or present anything ever
happened to them. Same thing in the NFL. Yes, they
matter more than everybody else matters, matter more than anybody
else matters. That's just all right. If it took you

(01:53:43):
till now to realize that, I don't know what rock
you've been under. We had the exact same complaints in
the NBA with the hand checking. It's and it's not
just the quarterbacks and the quarterbacks themselves, it's everything they're
able to do. It's Pat Mahomes is important, but also
the numbers he puts up. It helps fantasy, it makes

(01:54:06):
the game more watchable. It just makes it better when
they're there. Lead singers are more important than all the
other guys in the group. Be it become a lead singer, right, Sorry,
they just are. I mean, look, we hear this in
baseball all the time with oh god, they're just so

(01:54:29):
soft to these pictures. Yeah, because there's no but there's guys.
Only a couple of guys can throw a hundred miles
an hour and and have late movement that these hitters
can't hit. They're that important. It just are really can't
pitch in the short rest, dude. It's one day you

(01:54:51):
go back and in the nineteen twenties. They Yeah, in
the nineteen twenties, they weren't facing Aaron Judge who's six
ft seven bill like a brick, you know what, house
with lighter wood that's stronger and shorter fences. Every older

(01:55:12):
generation thinks the younger generation is soft, when really the
younger generation is just smarter. We get new information and
men evolved. We don't do this in you know, flying planes.
You don't go up there and go like, you know, guys,
we have air traffic control, we have radar, but that's

(01:55:32):
soft's soft. So we're just gonna wing it all right,
Everybody go with that. We'll just winging, okay, because we're tough.
We're tougher. We're tougher. You know, we're gonna launch a
missile into like enemy territory. Guys, turn off the heat sinkers,

(01:55:55):
turn off the lasers. Let's not use all of that stuff.
It's just way too soft, you know what. Let's get
rid of seat belts. Seat belts are soft. Real real tough.
Real toughness is when your dad used to put the
armbar and keep you from flying through the windshield. Howard
Stellenberger was the coach at Oklahoma for one season. Do

(01:56:15):
you know do you know Howard Stellenberger is one who
originally started the University of Miami program. He also started
really Louisvill's football program. Do you know why lasted one
year at at Oklahoma because in August, in the heat
of Oklahoma during two days, they weren't allowed to get
water because he got to be tougher. So I understand

(01:56:37):
that we all think this is soft football that they were.
They're taking hitting out of football. They kind of are
kind of a Look, there's always gonna be ways around rules.
You can still pop a guy. Just don't drive a
guy into the Just don't drive him in the ground.
You see him come up, see him, pop him and
let him fall and in some ways falling on the

(01:56:58):
hard turf, especially once you get to November and December,
you're gonna wish there was somebody's hand underneath you or
somebody landing on you. Maybe takes away some of the pain.
But this is the way they want to judicata think
is the is the word judicate the NFL. That's the
way we're gonna bit doing. So that's the way it is.

(01:57:23):
The future is now for a few NFL teams we'll
tell you how we know. Next. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Doug god Leap Show weekdays at
noon eastern three pm Pacific. Previously on The Doug god
Leap Show, Michael Lombardi, former general manager in the Nation
Fotball League, What are your thoughts in the Battle of
l A at the Coliseum this Sunday? The Rams, I

(01:57:44):
think are just starting to get into high gear. They
didn't practice, they didn't play in the preseason, and I
think each week you can start to see the Rams
offensive line becoming better. You can see the Rams. I
think the Rams coach receivers better than any team in
the league. Their attention to details really good. They get open,
they understand how to attack coverages. I think this is
a game where somebody wants to be declared the King

(01:58:05):
of l A. And I think the Rams are by
far the better team. If you missed anything from the

we like to run down as many stories of the
day as we possibly can. We call it the press.
The press Dan by what he got, my friends, we

(01:58:48):
got a bit of a different version of the press today.
Seven stories, all including audio. Yes, Baker Mayfield named the
starter for the Browns in week four, Honor, you know,
that's what I wanted to be though, I wanted to
be the starting quarterback, but I wanted to play. He's
just human nature. So I'm happy. But it's just the beginning, Okay.

(01:59:11):
Has anybody surprised by this? Right? Mill And and I
know that we're supposed to be like, well, Tyrod Taylor's
in concussion. They might protocol, Like, dude, Tyrod Taylor had
a chance keep the job for up to a year.
He didn't perform. Well, it's really hard to play with
one eye on the bench, and that's how he played.
But wasn't good enough. Um Now, Baker, Baker is He's solid.

(01:59:34):
I don't think his ceiling is that of Donald That's
what most NFL people think. But he is surrounded by
a good cast and I do think the offense. They
run boats well for him. Their schedule gets much more
difficult in the coming weeks, it should be pointed out.
But he's got some extra time to prepare, so we'll see.
Feature is now for the Browns and four others in
the NFL. Cardinals, said coach Steve Wilkes, is going with

(01:59:57):
rookie Josh Rosen as their starting quarterback this Sunday against Seattle.
Josh plays with a lot of confidence. I think he
gives us the opportunity to be able to be successful.
When you look at the situation when he went into
the game, I'd have a problem putting him in that
time at that time because again, I know he's very
confident in what he's doing, and no one is. No

(02:00:19):
one has ever said Josh Rosen lacks confidence that no
one has ever said that, but he does. He looks too.
If you watched him play in college, he looked the
most NFL ready. His issues are he hadn't been stayed
healthy for an entire season yet since entering college, and
ultimately some leadership, some some questions of leadership. But Josh

(02:00:40):
Rosen is accurate, does process things well, and my guess
is that he'll throw the ball downfield, something they couldn't
get Sam Bradford to do. Lebron James is now a Laker,
holding his first press conference. James a Laker, yes, holding
his first presser since signing with the team this summer,
and today spoke with the media about why he made

(02:01:01):
his decision. My decision was based solely on my family
and the Lakers. I'm a basketball player. I'll play ball.
That's what I do and that's what I live by,
and when I do it at the level, I'll do
it at everything else take care of herself. So you know,
my as far as my business, those things have been
takeing care of herself away before I even came out here, obviously.
I mean we we told you a long time ago

(02:01:23):
once he said family, his family wanted to live here
or live in Cleveland. Um. But I do think that
it's going to as much as he's been able to
take care of business and allow the business side to
be handled by others, especially in season, there's could be
a lot of people pulling at him, you know. And
you live in Brentwood to get to downtown twenty minutes

(02:01:47):
right with no traffic, right, But there's always traffic and
you may having spent an offseason in l A is
not spending a season in l A. So I think
it was interesting that Sunday was the battle for l A. Right,
That's what the Rams and the Raiders. Rams and the
Chargers called it. They're not the two most popular football
teams in l A. The Raiders are SCS probably second,

(02:02:10):
Rams arguably the best team in the NFL, and none
of them are as popular as the Lakers are. It's Lakers,
then probably Dodgers, then SC when they're winning, and then
Rams or actually then Raiders. Then Rams would probably be
the After spending his entire professional career in San Antonio

(02:02:32):
with the Spurs, Kawai Leonard, now a member of the
Toronto Raptors, introduced today prior to training camp, I have
no regrets. I want to focus on this team, uh,
this journey that we have in front of us today,
and just stay in the present time and not look back.

(02:02:54):
Yeah that that that that quote is going to be
used time and again. I want to stay at the
present time and not look back. So people are going
to freak out and sit and say, well, that means
he's definitely leaving. He may be leaving, but wanting to
be present that that's actually something they teach you in yoga.
That's something that teams focus on. Don't or even about

(02:03:15):
the playoffs, let alone next year, unless you take care
business today. The Raptors aren't the only ones happy to
see Kawaii in Toronto, and that may include Spurs forward
LaMarcus Aldridge. If you're gonna ask any questions about that
whole thing, that I'm not gonna answer them. So that's
I mean, how much I'm just saying, like, we're happy
to turn the page. And you know, the mars here
and he's happy, and he's motivated, and you know I

(02:03:37):
play open gym with him, and you know he's gonna
make us better. So you know, you gotta look forward
and you know we have a very talented team that
I'm looking forward to playing with. So that's a positive
for sure. Was that mellow? LaMarcus salters? Marcus alters that
that's it? Sound um, yeah, that's gonna. I think they'll

(02:03:57):
be better. I mean they have to be, right. How
good were they last year and they didn't have Kawai
and Leonard most of the year, and you know they've
they've gone You want to talk about a massive change
that they've gone through. Tony Parker's in Charlotte, I think
he's washed. I don't know if the last season there
uh Danny Green of course in Toronto, I think they'll
miss his leadership, his shooting, and the fact that he

(02:04:17):
doesn't need the basketball. But you add in DeMar de
Rosen to LaMarcus Aldrich. They're both guys that if you
go back fifteen years ago, they would be incredibly dynamic.
Tomorrow a great mid rain shooter and LaMarcus a great
post up player. But no one's been able to work
and make it work like Pok. It'll be interesting to
see if this is the year that the Patriots, you know,

(02:04:37):
finally finally come back to reality, come back to Earth,
and the same thing happens to the Spurs. Antonio, We're
not gonna hear from Melow, We're not gonna hear from
Russell Westbrook. Here. We are going to hear from Nick
Center and his cantor who has his eyes and other
things on the playoffs. This season's before you know it
is the playoffs. Why not think about playoffs? My nipples

(02:04:59):
get sorry, That's the thing, Man's the playoffs. That's what
we play for say something, he just did you get
nothing so good? So good? I mean, and and his
cantor is that he's so much better as a quote
than he is on the defensive end. Get out there

(02:05:20):
and pressed. That was the press. I I uh, I
gotta pick for tonight, but I want yours, give me
yours real quick music. I will go Steelers, Steelers. Okay.
The Steelers, by the way, are one and a half
point favorites on the road. What about you, John Ramos,
I'll take the Steelers as well, What about you? I'm

(02:05:41):
taking the Buccaneers. Buccaneers straight up as one and a
half point talks. I don't think this. I think the
Steelers are a mess. I don't think they're very good
Buccaneers at home. I'm gonna take the Bucks. Stuck got
lip show
