(00:21):
you're listening to Fox Sports Radio Boom on Up America.
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Coming to you from
the beautiful overcast city of Los Angeles, California, side of
Thursday Night football on Fox. And I think the story
(00:44):
for that game is not gonna be who will be
there because there'll be a lot of dignitaries from Fox.
There a lot of celebrities. There is uh l a
looking to get on the bandwagon of the Rams, best
team in football so far, maybe the best roster when
healthy in football. But it's more about who's not going
to be there. Everson Griffin and his agent uh told
(01:05):
the Vikings last week the defensive end would not be
allowed back on the team until he underwent the mental
health evaluation. Scary scary stuff, uh coming out of Minnesota.
On the other hand, this is two thousand eighteen, where
at least we're aware of mental health issues and there's
not the taboo taboo of of previous years. You combine
that with both of the cornerback starting cornerbacks and the
(01:25):
the offseason acquisitions of the Rams being out Andrew Whitworth
being out, and again the Rams, I told they opened
as a seven point favorite load up on the Vikings,
although the Vikings are without Everson Griffin, so more on
that to come. Also, we will um, we'll dive into
(01:46):
some of what's going on in the NBA with you know,
media days and media days in the NBA or no
different than media days in the NFL or media days
in college sports, the only differences in college sports. We
talked about how great the recruiting classes now, good the
young guys are. I'm getting getting up to speed. Everyone
had the greatest summer ever. Let's go back to last night, though,
(02:08):
where the Pittsburgh Steelers go in and get a win
in Tampa, a much needed win in Tampa. There is
a lot to get to. There's the roughing, the passer penalties,
and will kind of discuss all the different implications of it.
(02:28):
But I mean, look, a blind man could sit there
and say not watch the game and see in the
second quarter. Wait, the Steelers scored twenty four points in
the second quarter. And remember the Steelers missed an extra
point and missed a field goal. They left points on
the field and still had thirty at the half. They
were helped in no small part by Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fits
(02:51):
Magic had three picks, three picks, and although he nearly
put out the fire that he's started, he did in
fact start the fire. The number one determinant in wins
and losses in the National Football League is turnovers. And
when you're veteran IVY league quarterback throws three interceptions, you
(03:17):
are more more than more likely to lose the game.
And that's exactly what happened. Exactly what happened. And so
I know that Tampa is likely to stick with Ryan Fitzpatrick.
I'm guessing that we're all gonna buy into hey play
out the hot streak. But if we only could have
(03:37):
had somebody, just somebody out there who had the foresight
to Ryan Fitzpatrick's amazing start somehow fizzling out. Ryan Fitzpatrick
is the backup quarterback, a really good backup quarterback for
a reason. Spots starts start a couple of games. He's great,
(03:59):
but long term doesn't work. You have all the history,
all the data on your side to support hey. Fits
in short doses is awesome. And you know what if
a team is not prepared for Fits and the way
he can pick a part of defense with this skill group,
if we have to call on him, we can because
he's the backup quarterback. He's exactly what you think he is.
(04:22):
He's fold, He's Terry Rogier. He's picked the backup who
comes in and sets the world on fire, but eventually
water finds its level. That's what I said a week ago,
That's what I said today. We'll see if if Tampa
takes debait and decides to continue to start Ryan Fitzpatrick
running the risk of of taking away from the growth
(04:45):
of Jamis Winston. Jamis wasn't great at all times last year,
but he was a better version of Jamis Winston than
we had seen consistently in the NFL. And he has
a darn good team to work with, between Mike Evans
and O. J. Howard and John Jackson who still has
get up and go speed. Even ja Quiz Rodgers still
still in the league. Cameron Braid. You got a good
(05:07):
group of guys to throw the football too, so fits
Magic's magic is started to run out, and we'll see
when Tampa finally realizes it. But it is amazing to watch.
It's amazing to watch how much people when when you
have a taste of something really good, how you want
to believe that that's exactly what it's like. This is
(05:29):
the Tampa Buccaneers. To me, I've never been to a
restaurant when you're really really hungry. The first time you go, right,
the first time you go, you're like, man, that place
is amazing, amazing. You come back and he's just go
on a date night, Like, look, I love this place.
Let's go there. Last time I eighty there was incredible.
You're the exact same food, it's preferred, the exact same
way like, and it doesn't. It's not that great because
(05:51):
your your expectations, your desire to have something great. Remember
Tampa coming off a disastrous finish to their season last year.
All of those things built it up as such, or
as built it up as little as possible. And he
had Fitzpatrick's starting Remember last time he was a starter
heading into the season was the Jets after the holdout
(06:14):
and that didn't work out well. So I'm the one
who called it. I will stand by it. Jamis Winston
is a better quarterback, don't believe me. The Buccaneers are
paying him twenty million dollars this year to be the
better quarterback. Then the only question is are they willing
to Are they willing to let it organically play out,
(06:35):
or are they gonna artificially just get ahead of it
and say, we know right who Ryan Fitzpatrick is. He's
great if we need him, but Jamis is, in fact
our guy Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. There's also
the contel all the penalties that we saw with the
roughing the pastor. I don't want to go through each
individual penalty. I don't, and I'm guessing that there's going
(07:02):
to be some sort of adjustment. But we discussed this
with with the helmet rules in the preseason and early
on the season. The NFL knows exactly what they're doing
league wide. All of the following are tracking a figures
that would be record highs for the entire season. Completions, percentage,
(07:23):
completions per game, passing, yards per game passing, attempts passing
TVs per game. This was this is planned. This is
baseball on steroids. This is a way one to keep
quarterbacks upright and in the game. The more their upright
(07:44):
and in the game, the more you have a chance
your team has a chance of winning and up putting
up big numbers. It's easier to sell than the face
of the franchise are worth all that money. You gotta
protect him a little bit more like the league knows
exactly what they're doing. And while it's really really hard
to judge, and we'll probably dial it back. You know, look,
(08:05):
when you had Aaron Aaron Rodgers, we had Aaron Rodgers
break his collar bone last year. When he had Tony
Romo break his collar bone the year before, these are
two of the five best and most popular players in
the NFL. You can't have it. I mean, like, look,
it was bad enough that Teddy Bridgewater and Deshaun Watson
(08:27):
they tore their knee up on non contact stuff. Same
thing happened with Jimmy Garoppolo. Those are not preventable. Good
Garoppolos could have been prevent if he just ran out
of bounds. But they're not preventable. But you prevent what
you can prevent. This is no different than what the
airlines did after the shoe bomber Dude Rank. The guy
(08:49):
tries to put a bunch of explosives in his shoes,
and now all of a sudden, now we gotta take
off of all of our shoes and run through the
X ray machine. And for a while there it was
really beat Well, now you have t S a pre check,
and you'll notice t S a pre check. They don't
have to run their shoes. Old people, super young, little kids,
(09:10):
they don't have to. It's everybody in kind of that
middle aged demo. We gotta run our shoes, which is
what they're gonna do with the NFL. Oh, we gotta
get we gotta keep it away from guys using their
weight and landing on people so that we don't have
another Aaron Rodgers, another Tony Romo. A season cut short,
a career cut short. And eventually, and maybe shorter than eventually.
(09:35):
Maybe it'll happen sooner rather than later. They'll make an adjustment.
There'll be a t S A pre check, there'll be
a special rule for old people, a special rule for kids.
But the the constant discussion over the rules. Look, this
is what they're trying to get away from there. Trying
to figure out a way in which you can keep
(09:55):
football football but keep the quarterbacks on the field and
eat is not easy. It's no different than the folks.
I feel bad for the t s A folks, right,
Like everybody wants that line to move a lot faster.
On the other hand, you wanted to be really really
safe and and some sometimes those two things. Oftentimes those
(10:18):
two two things counteract each other. Man, I can't believe
along the security line, would you prefer we just wing
it right, let's just go, let's just go. I mean,
ask somebody at t s A, like, all right, forget
all time. What's the craziest thing you found today? They
(10:39):
be like, well, I got some numb chucks off a guy.
You know, this guy had a Samurai sword. Was I
not allowed to bring that on the right, Like the
idea of like just let's just go, No, No, we
can't just go. Hey, back in the day, we used
to just I mean, they didn't have all this stuff,
all this phantom machinery and planes were safe. Now you
thought you were safe, You thought you were safe. You
(11:03):
forgot about t w A. Being hijacked. I forget which
foreign land that that thing was hijacked and moved to
t w A. There's a name for the past. Doug
Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. I think they'll
figure it out. No, no, no, I know they'll figure
it out, but I also know that it's gonna take
some time. I want to give a shout out to
our new affiliate, Altitude Sports Radio AM nine fifty in Denver.
(11:28):
We did pick against the Broncos last week. That's because
we saw that they're a little bit inflated based upon
their schedule early on the season and playing at home.
Although big home game this weekend for the Broncos are
thanks to Altitude Sports Radio nine five a m. In
Denver for making a smart choice to making us part
of your daily lineup. College football is turning into the
(11:49):
NBA to the n b A, I will tell you
why next. Be sure to catch live editions of the

Save more at Progressive dot Com or called on Progressive
Doug Olives show Fox Sports Radio. Look, I'll sit here
and tell you I'm not gonna disagree that some of
those calls are dumb. And then Ben Roethlisberger flopping like
he's James Harden. Not great for not great for sports.
But I mean, look, they changed rules in the NBA
(12:36):
and it's helped trigger ridiculous offensive numbers. And that's what
they're doing in the NFL. And last night was a
really watchable football game. Sorry, just it just was just
was um speaking of the NBA with with camps kicking
off around the association, I was thinking about how it
(12:56):
relates to college football, right, Like you cannot pay attention
to the NBA and not know a ton about I
don't know. There's thirty teams in the NBA, about eighteen
or nineteen of them. And if I told you, if
I asked Ramos, and I know you pay attention more
than the the mythological person that I was just building up.
(13:21):
But if I had to say warriors or the field,
who would you take? Warriors? Okay, Ryan Music, Warriors of
the field, Warriors? All right? If I wasna say John
Ramo's Alabama or the field. Who would you take Alabama?
Music Gonna go with John there? Okay, Now, I do
(13:43):
think that there's a couple of other teams in both
the discussions. Like I believe the Celtics are closer to
the Warriors than anyone has been since Kevin Durant got
to the Warriors. So I said the Celtics are closer,
and I think the thunder have made some leaps. I'm
not sure. If not, I'm not sure. I don't think
(14:05):
that Houston is as good as they previously were. But man,
do they have some offensive weaponry. Offensive weaponry they got,
they got, they got guys that can go and get
buckets and so. But but the correlation between college football
(14:25):
and the NBA is this, Ohio State's been good since
urban Meyer got there. What they haven't had since urban
Meyer got there was a consistent passing game. They haven't
had a Dwayne Haskins Like Dwayne Haskins through what three games,
(14:45):
eleven hundred and ninety four yards, sixteen touchdowns in one reception.
And this is not the the JT. Barrett, the Tim
Tebow sort of inflated number. Excuse me. Through four games
through four games, and by the way, those four games,
Rutger stinks, but two Lane from the American is the
(15:08):
worst team they've played. TCU is legit top fifteen, top
twenty type team. I know they lost to Texas. You
play Ohio State in Texas back to back. They're still
all right. Maybe their top twenty five. Rutger stinks, but
they're still in the Big ten sort of. Oregan State stinks,
but they're still in the Pack twelve. And of course
they go to Penn State this upcoming weekend. The difference
for Ohio State, the difference for Clemson, who has had
(15:32):
tremendous talent in the past at quarterback with Deshaun Watson,
but hasn't had that hasn't had you know, I wouldn't
say consistently great quarterback play going back to last year
with Kelly Bryant. Kelly Bryant has now been usurped by
Trevor Lawrence. I don't know if you guys have seen
this Trevor Lawrence kuld play. He's a six ft five
two five pound freshman from Cartersville, Georgia, and man can
(15:53):
he spin. He's got long hair. He kind of looks
like sunshine from remember the Titans. So you got Trevor Lawrence,
you have you, you go through what Alabama has now
with ta Heck, you go to George. George's got too
damn good quarterbacks with Justin Fields and Jake from and
(16:17):
then we already talked to you about Haskins. I feel
like if I had to say those four teams or
the field for college football, and frankly for Alabama, you know,
like like, look, Louisville is not what they used to
be to beat Louisville old Mrs going through porrobation, but
they had beaten him too of the last four years
to beat him sixty two to seven. And the Texas
(16:38):
and m game may have been closer than the final score,
but the final score still was forty five to three.
I mean, are you kidding me? I feel like college
football has become like the NBA this year to which
regular seasons as much as I get in on the
regular season, Stanford Notre Dame and Stanford's comeback win over Oregon, man,
(16:58):
that should be good. That Auburn ellis You game couple
weeks ago, that was awesome. This is a big college
football weekend. When you look at at West Virginia taken
on Texas Tech. We had Cliff Kingsbury on yesterday. Hell,
Oklahoma almost lost to Army. They're a team that if
they win the Big Twelve, could fight their way in
(17:19):
if you know, because Clemson has lost a game already,
Ohio State Penn State, the loser you would think is
close to being out, but still because of the size,
the immense immensity of that game, it ain't over just yet.
B y U surprising b y U and Washington Oregon
having to lick their wounds and go and take on
Cal and like these are all big games, but it
(17:41):
feels like Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia and then Clemson
will probably get a pass and get in there. It's
it's like you'd be more surprised if three of those
four teams weren't in it, then you would of most
anything else. So Hm, anyway, I just that's one of
(18:11):
the things that's hurting this college football season. And maybe
and music you and I had this discussion earlier today.
Maybe it's being in southern California, but I don't think so. Like, look,
I'm a huge college football fan. It's not because SCS
lost two in U C l A hasn't won a game,
and I don't get caught in the regionality. I still
sit down on my couch and every you know, every Saturday,
(18:32):
at the same time, I turned on CBS for the
SEC Game of the Week and I watched Fox, and
we have an unbelievable list of games. And I do
know Ohio State, Penn State and all these huge Big
ten games are gonna be big this year. And we'll
see if Michigan is in fact the real deal. They
take on Northwestern as they've moved to three and one,
But the the assumption is at least the Big three Georgia, Obama,
(19:00):
in Ohio State, throw in Clemson against the field, you
would take those Big four. You would take those Big four.
Two of Tavai logo has twelve touchdowns, no inter steptions.
I mean think about that, twelve touchdowns, no interceptions. He's
(19:20):
thrown for a thousand and thirty three yards. Those passing numbers,
those passing numbers more than Penn State has. Passing Ohio State,
we mentioned they have fourteen sixty three. Bama's right behind.
This is always the question, what would happen if Alabama
had a legit stud quarterback because they haven't really had one,
(19:43):
like a G. Mccarren's the only guy they got still
playing in the league. This is your answer, It's it's
what would you know, what would happen to the Golden
State Warriors if they could add a legit one on
one scoring weapon at the wing. They already had stay
half and they had Clay and they had Draymond and
they could play small ball. What would happen if you
(20:05):
could add like another great player to spread them out?
Two championships later, everyone I know is taking them against
the field. Alabama toa is the Warriors with Durant and
watching college football is a lot like watching the NBA
the last two years or so, where you're like, yeah,
he knew it's gonna be Kavs and Warriors. Where is
(20:26):
this year? It looks like it's gonna be Warriors in Celtics.
Let's get to damn buy or find out what else
is going on in the world of sports here on
the Doug got Limp Show on Fox Sports Radio, What
do you got damn A lot of talk Doug about
the roughing the passer penalty in the National Football League.
In fact, the camp or the competition committee from the
league expected to hold a conference call next week, according
(20:47):
to the NFL Network, to discuss the penalties that have
been called in the first three weeks of the season.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones weighing hand on his thoughts about
the roughing the passer calls. When it comes to pro football,
to use a boxing term, that's when you put the
six ounce club, so you don't fight with those ten ounts,
or you don't fight with those headgears. Everybody's being really
(21:09):
paid to go out and incur those type situations that
have more risk at the quarterbacks included. According to the
Cowboys owner Vikings, defensive and Everson Griffin won't play against
the Rams on Thursday night. He's dealing with mental health issues.
Griffin was approached by police on Saturday after erratic behavior
at a Minneapolis hotel, and reports say a short time later,
(21:30):
tried to break into the home of teammate Trey Wayne.
It was revealed the Vikings just last week ordered Griffin
to stay away from the team until the underwent a
mental health evaluation. Vikings said coach Mike simmer. Zimmer did
say there's a possibility running back Dalvin Cook returns from
a hamstring injury to play against the Rams on Thursday.
Forty Niners are working out Tom Savage, Matt Sims, and
Kellvin Clemens at their quarterback position, looking for a spot
(21:54):
to replace the injured Jimmy Garoppolo. Titans reportedly are going
to sign quarterback Austin Davis is Blayne Gabbert suffered that
concussion against the Jaguars, and Marcus Mariota still dealing with
his elbow injury, and the Mets activated third baseman David
Right from the sixty day d L and finally, Doug
Ryder Cup is this week. Tiger Woods is in France,
and in one of these social media posts sent out
(22:16):
by the United States Ryder Cup team, Tiger Woods was asked,
what is all time? Mount Rushmore of golf would be here?
Was his answer? All time US? Okay, well as far
as sneed Jones, Nicholas me there it is from Tiger Woods. What.
(22:36):
No one has any problem with him putting himself in there. No,
it just sounds awesome though, I think I think that's me.
And it does help that he just won the Players Championship, right, yeah,
it does. It helps the argument a bit should should
should Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones. Bobby Jones was on there.
Palmer wasn't, Hogan wasn't. Those were like the two that
(22:58):
I think a lot of people would say, Okay, um,
but you've only got room for four. Okay, so if
you go your mount you want to do Mount Rushmore day,
we can do Mount Rushmore of everything? How about Mount
Rushmore of the Doug Gottlieb Show crew. I don't have
John Ramos on it this time. Hold on weight, this
(23:22):
is all the time. Okay, yeah, this is this thing
has been this like you guys are not the first
incarnation of it. I hate to hate to hate to
break it with hate to break it to you. You know, yeah,
go ahead and no go all time. I mean listen,
I used to there were times when weich I to
have the Duke Dan Davis over at the other place
before he retired. Like the Duke was pretty Christine, uh
(23:42):
Christine leesy was She always brought baked goods on Fridays
and then um who was to do but Rich uh
Rich Ackerman. He bought pizza every Friday there whereas you know, buyer,
you always have a smile and you have great knowledge
and you're good at what you do, but what food
do you bring for the rest of the crew? Now, Ramos,
(24:04):
your Ramos is amazing, and he brings a smile to
everyone's face. But I will point out the upper trajectory
of the chair in which you sit. Jeremiah Crow, for example,
began in your chair and now I believe he's running
can be r in um uh in northern California and
where Ryan Ryan Music sits. Adam Cluge used to sit.
(24:28):
Now he actually did the job of your job and
Cindy Catt's job, and now he's the program director at
nineties point three are affiliate in San Diego. So so
they had those those people had high ceilings, high ceilings.
So I I'm gonna have to take a time and
think about it. I will tell you this, if we
do the amount Rushmore of Doug Gottlief Show, I will
(24:49):
definitely be on it. I was gonna say that. I
think you also just sports sports radio, sports radio all
the top Mount Rushmore's. Oh jeez, that's interesting. Um, you'd
have to have Mike and the mad Dog on there,
wouldn't you, Ah, would that be? Would be a Mike
and the Dog. That's a hard one. Wow, that is
(25:13):
a really really hard one because you do Mike, Mike
and the Dog? That does that take up two sponsors
that one show? Right? Then do you do? Do you
do Mike and Mike? I would put cow Hurd on there?
But do I put Cowherd on there? Like? What do
I do with Dan Patrick? What do I do with
Jim Rome? Like? I don't think Jim Rome is what
it used to be at all? I mean it would
you go back? But if you go back fifteen years ago?
(25:33):
That show was that was a groundbreaking show. Yeah, I
actually had Roman mine. If I thought you would, you
would have Roman yours? Okay? And then would you do
you do show? You do four shows? You didn't do
four shows? Yeah? Yeah probably Who would the other three be? Well,
you'd have to put Mike and Mike on there as well.
(25:55):
I think you'd have Mike and the Mad Dog, So
that would be three and then that fourth one is
the big one. Yeah, it's a hard one. Do you
go Dan Patrick, Patrick and cow Herd? Is there? Is
there anybody else? And I'm I'm forgetting uh Jason Smith
and Mike Harmon. If you're on Fox Sports radios, Good
(26:17):
Sun my Sunday morning partner on the Fantasy Football Show,
and I was just giving them a shout out. I
would probably go, you know what, I would go with
Colin Why for the simple fact of how he made
a name for himself because he wasn't a name when
(26:38):
he came onto the scene. What Cornheiser, by the way,
could have been on the Corneheiser used to have a
great show. Colin replaced him over the other place, and um,
and I think Cornheiser is even better. He now has
his podcast and does PT I think he's even better
in that and better in written form. Um, Yeah, I
(27:00):
would probably, I would probably. I don't know, man, they're
they're they're both so different. I would probably go Cowherd,
but it would be a Dan Patrick has been doing
a long time. Patrick a better interviewer, cow heard a
better ranter. Oh that's a tough one. Music would you
like to hop in on this discussion? I mean to
(27:21):
be honest, I don't really have a large gathering of
different sports radio shows that I've listened to over the years.
So really like Dan Patrick, Colin Cowherd, those have sort
of been my staples. So I like like Mike and
the mad Dog. That's before my time, so I can't
really talk to talk show. It was a local show,
(27:44):
but it was I mean, it was really the first
of its kind. And um yeah, I mean and and
like look Mike and Mike is a is a copy
of it. In many ways, it was a national show.
And it's so it's hard like, yes, you could easily
take my can the Dog off and put that as
the amount Rushmore of locals. But because it was kind
(28:05):
of the first, the first to kind of you know,
break through, I'd probably put it on the all time
sports radio Mount Rushmore. And I know there's been a
lot of really talented local guys that have just stuck
to do in their you know, been the guy afternoon
drive your local Mark in Chicago and yeah, yeah, um, anyway, yeah,
I have no problem. No one has any problem with it.
(28:25):
I don't know enough about golf historically. I did think
that the curious omission of Arnold Palmer, especially as many
Arnold Palmers as I drink, that that I would That's
where I would kind of that's where I would. I
I would struggle. Online car shopping can be confusing, not
any more true price from true car. Now you know
(28:47):
the exact price you'll pay for your next vehicle, so
if it's the True Car, you enjoy more confident car
buying experience. What's the most interesting storyline so far in
the NFL season. I'll tell you what I think it is. Next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Doug Dot
Leaps Show week days at noon Eastern three pm Pacific.
(29:08):
Car shopping can be confusing with terms like dealer price,
list price, an invoice price. True Car shows what other
people paid for the car you want, so you can
recognize a good price when you're ready to buy a
new or used car. Visit True Car and they enjoy
more confident car buying experience. Doug got leave show here
on the Fox Sports Radio. Here we are three weeks
(29:31):
in the NFL season. You know I was thinking about something, guys.
Do you remember one of the big reasons we said
that the Giants should draft a quarterback like Sam Donald.
Do you guys remember what it was? Um rommost you
remember why we were in addition to the fact he
was number one on people's boards, one of the things
that people said about the Giants having chance to draft him,
I don't well, it was it was the idea that, hey,
(29:54):
the Giants don't draft in the top five often, right, listen,
and Giants are great Frenchise Giants degree Frenchies. They don't
draft in the top five often. So when you're there
and he lies at thirty seven, you gotta take a quarterback.
That's how people would say. Music. You heard some of
that discussion, correct, Yeah, So the point is this, we
(30:19):
came into the season thinking the Giants blew it, though
not for this year, not for this year, but for
the long term future because they don't draft in the
top five that often. And I know that they look.
I I understand the Giants are coming up their first
win of the season. But have we started to think
of the possibility of the Giants drafting the top the
(30:41):
season two, right, it's not out of the roma possibility,
or or that their top five to top seven, and
that they may have a shot at Justin Herbert, who
was probably the number one prospect. Because some of these
other teams, whether it's the Buffaloes or the Arizonas of
the world, these other teams that are in rebuild mode,
they already have their quarterback. Uh, there's lots of good
(31:01):
in terms of the good stories. There's the weird, there's
the Earl Thomas who put an I G Somebody's gonna
pay the money. There's Levy on Bell. Steelers won their
first game with Adam. Steelers are one one and one.
We have all sorts of different storylines. The Dolphins being
three and oh, the Bills looking like they don't have
the town to compete until they go out and blow
(31:23):
out the Vikings in Minnesota. You have Andrew luck who,
let's be honest, he may not look great, but he
looks a lot better than you thought he would look.
And both of their losses were games in which they
were competitive in and could have won. Both could have
beaten the Eagles on the road last week. Just does
not have yet the team around him. But he looks
(31:45):
like as he gets healthier that Indie, uh Indie will
be back in the playoffs, probably going forward till next year,
you know, injury. Notwithstanding um the Pat Mahomes Show and
the thirteen touchdowns and interceptions. But I would challenge you
to find a more interesting story in the NFL this
season than the Dallas Cowboys. They changed all their they
(32:11):
changed there. There are many of their offensive coaches. Some
have said hey, Jason Garrett and not all that. Not
a lot of creativity, but doesn't appear that they have
a coaching problem as much as a personnel problem. Jason
Garrett said, We're not going down that road right now.
He told tard Archer, this covers the team. I have
a lot of confidence in Scotland Ahan. He's been an
(32:33):
outstanding coordinator in this league for a long time. He's
been an outstanding coordinator for US, an outstanding play color.
We saw this that earlier today. This is a good
one over his last thirteen games as a starter. Quarterback A. Okay,
quarterback A and buyer. I don't know if you've seen
the stat If you have, um, maybe you don't have
(32:54):
to play long. But Quarterback A has six yards, eleven touchdown,
twelve interceptions. Quarterback B has nine six passing yards, ten touchdowns,
eleven interceptions. By you want to take a guess at
who any of these quarterbackshar was talking about the Cowboys,
(33:16):
So one of them is kind of a giveaway, right, okay, Um,
one would be oh gosh, Dak. Yes, one is Dak,
and the other I'm just guessing just from the the
tone of it. Troy Hickman. No, no, not a not
a cowboy, never been a cowboy. Although there were some
(33:38):
that believe that the Cowboys wanted to they want to
move up to get him. Maybe they want to get
them up to get him. Now, Paxton Lynch was the quarterback.
They now it wasn't Paxton Lynch, but it is a
former Bronco quarterback, brock Osweiler. I mean the numbers, listen,
Dak Prescott last thirteen games, twenty three nine six yards,
(34:00):
brock Oswilder last three teen games to start, twenty six yards.
Dak Prescott ten tds, eleven interceptions, brock Oswilder eleven TDS,
twelve interceptions. Now, do I think they're play calling lacks creativity?
Of course? Do I think they don't have a number
one or maybe even number two wide receiver? Yes, we
point that out. We we were. I was very I
(34:23):
don't know tepid is the right word. But you know, Dan,
we all went up there and watched the Cowboys of
camp and they were all like, listen, it's an ensemble thing.
You talked to their coaches like, well, you know, we're
gonna try and find mismatched and spread people out and
run shallow roots and really try some creativity or whatever.
And nobody's open. Now he doesn't throw them open, but
(34:44):
they're also not open. They're not great. Like it's it's
at both They got a personnel problem. Some of it's
at quarterback, but a lot of it's at wide receiver.
And you can tell me that they thought Witten was staying,
but they cut Daz and they didn't seem if Alan
Hearnes was legitimately the plan B and des is the
plan A man. That was a bad plan. B man,
(35:07):
that's bad. I mean when you're when your numbers are
essentially the same as Brox over thirteen games, Now that's
that's almost an entire season. I don't think anybody wants
to be compared to brock Oswilder. It's not the guy
that's that's we're talking about Cowherd. Last segment. I get
I get tweets some times like yes, sound like Cowherd.
(35:27):
Thank you, thank you. He makes a lot of money
and he does a really good job. Thank you. Appreciate that.
Appreciate that. Let's get to Dan Byron play games, shall we.
This is game time side I like this game. Bro

All loans made by web bank member f d i
CE Equal Housing lender buyer. I need to first apologize
to Troy Aikman for like other Cowboys and maybe well,
(36:11):
well listen, there's a point to be made, and maybe
we'll make that later on the show. But that is
that's one of those things to which this is, we're
getting this. I get this with Nick right. Oftentimes he's
comparing like basketball numbers from fifteen years ago. Like, look,
the sports have changed. You can't compare Troy Aikman's numbers
to anybody's numbers today. It's just it's silly to do. So.
It's a completely different sport, how it's played, different number
(36:34):
of stats. To your point, to your point, uh. Troy
Aikman's last full season is starting quarterback with Dallas Cowboys.
Full season, he started fourteen games. He threw seventeen touchdowns,
twelve interceptions through nine hundred sixty four yards. All right,
not maybe it wasn't that far off. They were seven
and seven. You weren't that far off? All right? The
(36:56):
game today is all right? Doug, let's rank the top
three storyline so far in the NFL season. There have
been there have been a bunch. You've got Heck roughing
the passer if it's magic, Antonio Brown drama, Levian Bell drama,
Khalil Mack trade, Chiefs and Rams hot start, Earl Thomas
Brown's winning game. Top three storylines so far in the
NFL this season. I would say number one is that
(37:19):
is people wondering if the Patriots are done right, like
we've wondered before, and we've all and the Patriots have
kind of clapped back. But now it feel manned as
it feels it feels over. It feels over, it just does. UM.
Number two would be I would say the adjustments in
(37:41):
the officiating UM and number three would probably be the
all the contract UH standoffs, hold off holdouts, and the
trade of Khalil Mack. I would lump those all together,
all right. I mean, Gruden being winless is in there,
(38:03):
Pat mahomes Be and and the Kansas City Chiefs, and
people say the Chiefs get off to hot start. They
got the dot started last year, two previous years that
they didn't get off to incredibly hot starts. Um, but
I would. I would. I would conjoin a bunch of
the contract stories Levy on Earl Thomas, uh, Aaron Donald
who got his deal done, and the Khalil Mack who
(38:24):
didn't and ultimately got trade. I would make that all
one story. Doug, Let's move to college football. Right now,
the top three conferences in college football, I'll say the
SEC is one. I'm gonna go Big ten too, Big
twelve three interesting. I figured that the a SEC would
(38:45):
be left off and was curious on where you put
the Big ten in the Big twelve, So I think
I think at the top. Obviously the Big Big ten
has been disappointing in the middle of the bottom in
Michigan losing the Notre Dame doesn't help my argument. But
if I said Hio State, Penn State, and Michigan, you know,
(39:05):
against anybody in the Big twelve, it's like, Look, Oklahoma
State lost home, Oklahoma almost lost home to Army. And
as much as I love what Cliff did at Oklahoma State,
they did get run out of Jerry's world, right TCU
did get beat by Ohio State in the state of Texas.
You know, so I would. I'm gonna go sec big
ten in big twelve. All right, Doug, let's let's do this.
(39:28):
How about top three most memorable winds of Tiger Woods career. Yes,
there's oh eight, Um, he beat Rocko on one leg
in the playoff. That was the final uh major win
right now, that was number fourteen for Tiger. I'm gonna
say I think the two thousand US Open because he
(39:50):
won by fifteen strokes, and it was at Pebble That
one's hard to you that or n and then and
then I would say eighteen Tour Championship, first win in
five years. The Emir could love to come back the
throngs of fans. I would those to be my three.
What would your three? B um? I would yeah, the
I think the win at Pebble Beach because it was
(40:11):
so dominant. One masters too, and then oh eight on
the broken leg. Gosh, that sounds awful that that got
a bronze medal. But the win at Pebble, beat of anyone,
as he said, by fifteen shots. Um, yeah, that was
that was dominant at his best. This is game time
(40:31):
on the Duck Godly Show and the PGA's at Pebble
next year, isn't it open? Yeah? The US opens at
Pebbles in May. Yes, the change of the date so
it will be in May. Yeah. And then of course Augusta,
where I think I think he'll win. I think he'll
win a major there um. Coming up next, we'll get
back to the NFL. Brian Baldinger is going to join
(40:53):
the show. We'll ask him if the reps have gone
too far, but we'll also ask him about some of
his Baldy break downs. Sure seems like the Eagles aren't
yet hitting on all cylinders. He watches and covers every
Eagles game. What's up with the defending champs? And are
we willing to think that Father Time's caught up to
the Patriots? We discussed next in the Doug Gotlip Show

Good for you, Sirius xm if Now, if it's only

the meantime, you can always download the Doug Gotlip Show podcast.
You can also download the All Ball podcast, which we
will have another one dropping sometime tomorrow. Tomorrow. Um, we
have so much to get to today, man, but let's
(42:00):
turn back to the Nation Football League. The story of
last night was the early interceptions, three of them in
fact at the hands of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Not all his fault.
One was tipped at the line of scrimmage, one appeared
to be a miscommunication with one of his wide receivers,
and the other one was well he was under duress,
but still three yearly picks and look, the Steelers left
(42:22):
points out in the field. Steelers missed the field goal,
missed an extra point. It could have been worse. It
allowed though, allowed the Tampay Buccaneers to come back and
still have a shot late in the game. But ultimately
Big Ben end up doing just enough. Found Juju Smith
Schuster I believe nine times for over a hundred yards
receiving as the pittsburghs Dealers get their first win of
(42:43):
the year and Tampare Buccaneers get their first loss of
the year. There's a lot to dig into, and I
don't think anyone works harder or makes you smarter when
you follow him or watch his work on on the
NFL network or follow him on social media. He also
worked for Compass Media Network sets on radio and college football,
and Foxy Brian Baldinger he joins us in the Doug
(43:04):
Glip Show. I encourage you to follow him on Twitter
at bald the NFL for his Baldy breakdowns. Let's start
last night, Baldi. Look, I have no animus towards Ryan Fitzpatrick, none,
but I came in the season knowing Jamis came off
of his best season as a pro. He may not
be what he was thought to be coming out of college,
but he came off his best season. And he suspended
(43:27):
three games. And I've seen these, uh, these spikes from
fits in the past, and they're always followed by a
drop three first half interceptions. He does throw for over
four hundred yards. Am I wrong to think I get momentum?
But that kind of went out the door with last night.
Let's go back to Jamis because he's ultimately our guy. Yeah,
(43:48):
I don't think they're gonna do that, so I really don't.
I think despite the a couple of mischiefs there in
the first half, they had a real good chance for
me to Shaun Jackson's pumper isn't called back for a call.
I mean, they might find a way to win that game.
He start a love of touchdown passes year. It's hard
to dispute what he's done in the first three weeks
(44:10):
this season. They've never won the first two games in
a row in the Dirt Cotter since he's been than
four years. I would just right mind fits Patrick right now,
there's no reason to go to Jamis right now. I mean,
James Is gonna be in there, probably before the season's over.
I don't know when, but I would I'd give him
another week for sure. Jameis Winson get in the shape
(44:30):
at least. I mean, I haven't played in a month,
barely played in the preseason. I just don't think you
need to rush him and throw him out there right now.
I'm not sure Jameis Winson has been in shaving a
long time because completely completely gaining with you, Um, what
about the Steelers. Have they fixed what ails them? Yeah?
You know, I mean, I've seen these teams kind of
struggle to start d seasons. I mean, everybody's got to
(44:52):
kind of find a way right now. In September, you've
got to kind of address what's not working and uh
and then work to fix it. And that's with September
is all about right now. So you know, I mean
they're gonna be They're gonna be there at the end
of the season. They're just they've got too much talent
and they know how to do it. And I don't
know what's gonna happen to the running back position right now,
but they got a lot of young players. I mean,
(45:14):
they got a rookie safety and young corners, and I mean,
he's gotta let these guys play and figure this stuff
out a little bit here. But I think you know,
you saw what Ben can be and what he is
and how tough he is, how hard he is to
bring to the ground, and you know, I just think
the Steeler is gonna be fine. I mean, I don't
think there's any cause for panic. I know everybody is
(45:34):
talking about the coach and the locker room and all
that stuff. And look, Antonio Brown has done some things
that has rankled that organization before, and he's gonna do
some more things. He's a receiver, He's got some diva
in him. He likes the ball a lot. He's been
the most target receiver in the league, and when he
doesn't get his targets, he kind of throws a little
(45:55):
hissy fit. It's not uncommon. He's not alone. He it's
what he does. But he does change the game when
the ball is in his hands. He did it last night.
So I think Mike is just fine, and I think
the Steelers are gonna be fine. What should they do
with well, I mean, the idea of that he's not
getting paid is ridiculous. He's getting paid on the average
(46:16):
of the top five running backs in the league. He's
gonna make a lot of money. Now, it's not the
guaranteed money that he wants, but every day that has
gone by has made him less valuable to the organization
for this season. And it's all about this season. So,
I mean, I understand what people are saying, pay and
pay and pay well. They want to pay him, They
want to pay him really good. They just are not
(46:38):
prepared to give them guaranteed money. It has backfired in
a lot of cases. In the history of this game.
When you pay these guys, you can give the guaranteed
money at that position. So I think the Steelers are
not going to change their stands. I don't think they're
gonna give them just a big upfront bonus and and basically,
(46:58):
you know, uh, advertize it over a number of years.
I don't believe they're gonna do that. So do you
do you trade? Do you trade him? Well? I don't
know how tradeable he is right now. I mean, you
tell me if somebody is gonna pay that kind of
money to him right now, We're already four weeks into
the season. Who's gonna pull me up that kind of up.
I mean, it's one thing you're tradeful, and it's the
other thing to try to sign him. You might be
(47:19):
in the same situation as Steelers are roam. So he's
not that tradeable right now, to be honest with them,
I mean, I think there's some teams that would love
to have them. A lot of teams would love to
have his ability. He's gotta learn an offense, you's gotta
show that he's in shape, and then you've got to
sign them to a long term deal. And I don't
think there's a lot of teams out there that are
willing to do that. Right now, Brian Balding, you're joining
us in the Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, Fox
(47:41):
coverage of the of college football as well as uh,
the NFL Network and bald these breakdowns. What what's your
reaction to some of these roughing calls? Well, I was
doing the redskin in Green Bay Package game on Sunday
and Clay Matthews was like he was fit to be tied,
and everybody watching the game wasn't because it's just an
(48:01):
impossible play to really officiate because the language is ambiguous
to begin with, body weight on the on the quarterback,
you know. And I just got slammed to the ground
by Drawn Payne and nobody said a word. Um, and
Aaron Rodgers looking at Craig roll Stock the referee, going
what is this rule about? You're killing my my outside
(48:22):
linebacker Clay Matthews on these hits and then I'm being
slammed to the turf here and nothing. So it's just
it's just very difficult to officiate. But I'll say this, Doug,
They're not going to back off this. This is here,
and the league is going to enforce this. So while
we may not like it, and it may look god
(48:43):
and it may not look like pro football, it is
here to stay. They are not going to change what
they're doing right now. In fact, I think it's gonna
be enforced even more going forward. You know, it's interesting,
I said, Brian Balding. You're joining us two things, and
you feel free if I'm If I'm wrong at all,
you can call me on it. Yeah, esterday I said,
people said, well, this is a textbook tackling. It is.
(49:03):
But just like textbooks, kids don't use textbooks anymore. Textbooks change,
they evolve. Secondly, I today I said, hey, this is
remember when there was a guy that had a bomb
in his shoe right and all of a sudden, now
we gotta take our shoes off. Well, last two years,
two years ago we had Romo whose career ended because
of repeated UH breaks to his collar bone. Last year
(49:24):
we lost Aaron Rodgers, and the league's like, look, these
guys are the lifeblood of our league, their lifeblood of
fantasy football. They make football exciting, offense, wins in ratings.
Look at the NBA. The NBA changed things to make
it a more offense, more perimeter friendly game, it's way
more exciting. The stats are like stats on steroids. Everybody
knows it's about offense. That's when baseball was that. It's
(49:45):
it's most popular times when guys are hitting balls out
of the yard because actually of steroids. And so, Yeah,
they may ultimately have a pre check line right like T.
S A Does, but we still gotta take our shoes off.
And this for the most part, is here to stay. Well,
you know, you're right, Doug. I mean, look, if you
want to just phrase it here, it is a cultural
change the way that we have watched football, enjoyed football,
(50:08):
played football. Even to a guy like Clay Matthew has
been doing it for a long time. It's gonna change.
It's just gonna change, and it's gonna be it's gonna favor.
You know, these quarterback ratings right now are off the charts.
They're all on steroids. Touchdowns, I mean, all these records
are going to be broken this year. Scoring records, touchdown records,
all this stuff is gonna be broken in large part
(50:30):
because the quarterback mine as well. Just where you know
RP practice jersey out there right now, that's where it's
gonna be and it's not. It's it is not going
to change. Are the Kancie Chief's gonna change? I mean,
Mahomes is light in the world on fire. They seem
to be built for just this type of play, right.
I mean they got speed everywhere, not much in in
(50:51):
in the form of defense, but that doesn't seem to
matter because they get out the fast starts. Will will
the league catch up to them? Well, I'd like to
see how they're going to do that. People say, well,
they's gotta get game tape on Patrick Mahomes. All right,
there's three games out there on them right now. You
tell me who the key on, You tell me who
you want to take away. I mean, the one thing
(51:13):
that you have to look at in this game right
now that Andy Reid is so far ahead of the
curve on is you cannot line up and run a
static offense anymore. You can't line up in eye formation
with no ship and no motion. Defense has got you.
You you watch Kansas City or on offense right now,
there's a motion on every single play, and a lot
(51:34):
of times it's Tyreek Hill and it's where the hell
is the treated going right now? And all the eyes
go to him, and then they just do so much
street card money with them. And it's not just him,
but it's it's it's all this pre stuff, pre staff movement.
Right now that he's getting these defenses just completely tangled
up and all of a sudden, guys are breaking free
(51:55):
and the quarterback is rare. He's just got unbelievable on
town it. I mean, if he was a baseball pitcher,
he's doc good the first year with the Mets and
he's just throwing strips. And I don't think that no
matter how much takee you get on him, that he's
gonna stop throwing strips. I don't want to freak out
about the Patriots, but I'm kind of freaking out about
(52:17):
the Patriots. I know they're gonna get Ediman back, and
if anybody can figure out how to use Josh Gordon,
it's them. But there's there's a lack of team speed
defend playmakers. Defensively, there's not much in terms of pass rush,
and they just they just look okay on offense. That
may be enough. Dolphins are three and oh now what
we've seen three games now of the New England Patriots.
(52:40):
Is it time to panic yet? I wouldn't panic yet.
We're not out of September yet. I mean September is
sort of when they kind of trying to figure things
out who they are and what they want to be
and what they can be. We got to see if
Josh Gordon sits into that culture, if he changes, if
he can, if he can fit in, that will give
him a deep speed threat that they have not. We
(53:00):
know what Edelman is, the offense goes through him. We
know what Grant can be. So I don't think you
can panic yet. But I mean, this is the weekend.
I mean, does you know is the a f C East?
Does it change this weekend? Because if the Patriots beat
the Dolphins this weekend, then it's just the same old
Patriots and the same old a f C. East. But
(53:22):
somehow the Dolphins find the gadgets and the turnovers and
all the things that they're doing right now to get
to three. Now they do that again, then you can say,
all right, there's a little minute, legitimate chance of the
changing of the guard. And while the Dolphins are not
a great team by any stretch, maybe the Patriots are
gonna start to trumble. Here. I want to ask you
(53:43):
about the Dallas Cowboys. Uh, Dax numbers over the last
thirteen starts are almost the same as brock Osweller. Some
have come out and said this lack of creativity. Some
of come out and said, hey, not only is Alan
Herne's not a number one, I'm not sure they have
a number two wide receiver. And then some of the
comme outsy, you know, Dak is just not that great.
When you watch the Dallas Cowboys on tape, what do
(54:05):
you think is wrong with them? Well, I think it's
the worst around the cast of any quarterback in the
league right now, and that would include Buffalo. Outside of
the running back, I mean, there's not anybody, including Tavon Austin,
that scares you. Um, they can make a play every
once in a while to Tavan, but there's just nobody
that scares you tight end at any of the receiver positions,
(54:28):
there's just not much there to work with, and you
just wonder. We all said it throughout the preseason, but
how do you go into the season with that core
around Dak Prescott. The idea of a franchise quarterback, if
you think that is, is once you identify that guy,
all you do is surround them with talent. That's what
(54:48):
the Eagles are doing with Carson Wentz. That's what the
Bills will do with Josh Allen. That's what Cleveland will
do with Baker. That's the plan. That's what the Rams
have done with Jared Goff. The Cowboys haven't done anything
like that. So it's just a mystery to me that
they could go into the season when everybody said, there's
funeral questions here about what you're putting on the field
(55:10):
around Dak Prescott. And look, you lose the center, you
lose a ton. But it's more than that. There is
just not much there to work with. How do you
explain Gruden's teams failures in the fourth quarter? I mean,
like Rams, it's a talent as a talent mismatched in
the fourth quarter with the Rams, But I mean they
had the game in Denver, and they had control of
(55:31):
the game in Miami until you hit the fourth quarter.
How do you explain it? Well, I mean, how does
what is going on between Derek Carr and Martvis Bryant
in the end zone last week? It it's a horrible
route by Martavis Bryant. He doesn't look like he's expecting
the ball Xavien Howard basically runs him right out of bounds.
The throw is terrible. We saw that same throw the
(55:52):
first week of the season against the Rams when he's
trying to hit his tight end in the end zone
and he leaves it short. You know, you could put
it all on John Gruden. John Gruden is a big
man and he makes a lot of money. You can
handle it, but at some point your players have got
to make plays for you, and they're just simply not
making plays to finish the game. They played really well
(56:12):
in stretches and then they completely fall apart in other
parts of the game. So you can see real definitive
improvement in that team at times, and then you say, well,
how did they make these kind of mistakes? They couldn't run,
they couldn't gain a yard last week, two weeks ago
in Denver, could have made a big difference in that
game where Denver came back. Last week, you feel a
(56:34):
horrible interception that's the go ahead score right there against
the Dolphins, and the Dolphins were only going to score
with a gadget plays the only way they could score
against so no, look, they executed the gadgets just great
fly sweeps and reverse passes for you know, touchdowns and
and all that kind of stuff. But until they stopped
making critical mistakes in critical times of the game, then
(56:57):
I think the Raiders are going to continue to do
with the doing. Brian Balding. Brian Baldinger, you gotta follow
him on Twitter, great Baldy breakdowns, and of course watches
work in the NFL network, or let's do him on
Compass Media networks, or watch the stuff with Fox discoverage
of college football. Baldy. Appreciate your time, really appreciate, all right.

We'll talk some Rams. Football Rams, by most people's accounts,
(59:06):
best team in football. I think they're gonna lose on
Thursday night to the Minnesota Vikings. Uh not because I
don't think the Rams are good. I think they're very,
very good, but they're they're not gonna have either they're
two starting cornerbacks, nor will they have their best offensive lineman.
Outside of that, they should be fully healthy. So um,
I I do think it matters. But man, did Jared
(59:28):
Goff look good? But part of the reason Jared Goff
look good is he's surrounded by great town. He's got
a really good play color, and the offensive line gave
him protection where he's stepping into every throw. He's not
that good, but he's made to look that good because
everything else is just clicking. We'll see what happens when
the Vikings off an embarrassing performance, come in on Thursday
night on Fox. Yesterday around the NBA was media Days
(59:52):
for most teams. Today they started the long process of
preparing for the season. Preseason camps are underway. Here was
Lebron James yesterday at Lakers Media Day when he was
asked their level of competitiveness with the defending champion Warriors.
We're picking up from scratch, so we have a long
way to go. We can't worry about what Gold State
is doing. Gold State is Gold State, and there the champions,
(01:00:13):
and you know, we put that to the side. We
can only focus on what we can do to get
better every day as a Lakers franchise, and you know,
hopefully someday we can put ourselves in a position where
we can compete for a championship. Look, I think it's
reasonable and and I think what happens is our expectations
of Lebron. Our expectations Lebron are different than his expectations Lebron.
(01:00:38):
Let's start. Look, I consider myself. If you have Nick
right on here with us, he would say, I'm a
Lebron hater. If you had Skip bayliss on Is, he
would say, I'm a it's a Lebron LoveFest. I actually
think if you ask anybody in basketball, I've nit the
nail right on the head. Buns great. Um. I do
(01:00:59):
think that Kevin and has in many ways past him. Uh,
he's Durants a better score. Durant say, when he is
an active defender, he's a better active defender now than
Lebron at this point in time. Lebron shooting has actually
gotten much better with age, but he takes a lot
more place off than he used to, and he was
playing in an inferior conference. Here's how the inferior the
(01:01:21):
conference is. If you took this Lakers team and put
them in the East, they would probably be what the
second favorite to reach the finals with going I mean,
I understand there was some incredible individual efforts to get
his team there for so many of these years. But
(01:01:43):
when they formed the when they formed the Miami Heat,
he destroyed the Raptors in the process, and he joined
the Heat that had already won a championship a couple
of years previous. In the process, and he destroyed the
Calves in the process. He took away two playoff teams
and combined with two other star ours to form a
super team. When he went back to Cleveland, obviously, he
(01:02:07):
destroyed the Miami Heats. Chances also remember Chris bosh at
the Blood Cloud shortly thereafter, but him leaving Miami eliminated Miami.
Boston had aged and had hit hit the reset button.
Toronto had started to reset and started to rebuild, and uh,
they had to take down the Pacers, like that was
the toughest challenge in their way. Now you're in the
(01:02:30):
West and the West is stacked and loaded, and I
think what he's saying is, Look, I'm like, we're not
gonna go and say we're gonna beat the Warriors. We're
gonna play all these young guys and find out what
they have, find out how much they've improved because they're
still in the improvement phase of their career, which is
new for Lebron. Luke Walton has gotten to be a
(01:02:51):
better coach during his two years being a coach because
he's in an improvement phrase a Lonzo Balls got to
get better. Of course he will, twenty years old. Brandon
Ingram should get better. He's twenty years old. Josh Hart's
gotten immensely about as it has improved has been immense
(01:03:14):
um And then you get Kyle Kuzma, who had a
great year on a bad team but did so in
just his rookie year in the NBA, Like he's got
some pieces, but Lebron's not setting his sights lower. He's
just being reasonable, which is how I've always approached Lebron.
It's awesome, and he has taken a new tact of
(01:03:36):
being willing to take and make big shots and being
willing to be an outspoken leader more so than in
the past, kind of letting other people do his dirty
work for him. But I don't think anybody would argue
with his assessment their champions. They have their own stuff
to work through. They don't have DeMarcus Cousins until later
in the year. They gotta fix their bench. We're not
(01:03:57):
even in that discussion yet. It's been five years since
they've been in the playoffs. Being mildly competitive. Daniel Jeremiah
just around the corner. But let's check in with Dan Buyer.
By the way, I cannot take give enough phrase Dan
vir Less to a show every Sunday on Fox Sports
Radio six to eight Pacific Coast time, nine to eleven
(01:04:18):
East Coast time. Dan, when he got we got some
news from the National Football League and some interesting news
from Minnesota. You mentioned that Vikings Rams game coming up
on Thursday. Well, Vikings defense eve vent Ever since Griffin
has been ruled out of that game. He's dealing with
mental health issues. It was an interesting string of events
on Saturday. Griffin was approached by police Saturday after he
(01:04:39):
was acting in a distribute I should say, showing erratic
behavior if you will, at a Minneapolis hotel on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called. He then went with a friend and
tried to break into Trey Wayne's, his own teammates house.
After that. Now, the Vikings we found out today Doug
actually ordered Griffin to have a mental health evaluation last
(01:05:02):
week and was ordered to stay away from the team
until that evaluation took place. His wife has had said
that he had been going through problems as of late,
bits fits of rage, if you will, And now Everson
Griffin is going through that mental healthy valuation. So just
a just a strange situation involving one of the Minnesota
Vikings better players. On defense, Everson Griffin's not gonna play
(01:05:24):
on Thursday, Vikings said coach Mike Zimmer did say there's
a possibility running back Dalvin Cook returns from a hamstring
injury to play against the Rams on Thursday. Titans are
gonna send quarterback Austin Davis, while the Niners are working
out Tom Savage, Matt Sims, and Kellen Clements looking for
some depth a quarterback after Jimmy Garoppolo tore his a.
C L some notes from baseball to pass along Mets
activating third Basement. David Right from the sixty day d L.
(01:05:46):
Cincinnati Enquirer reports at former Red Sox skipper John Farrell
will interview for the Reds managerial vacancy. Back to you,
Thanks so much, Dan. You know the uh um. There's
that story out of out of Ball Austin people. You know.
One of the things. Jabari Bird of course arrested for
domestic violence, and there's additional stories that I talked about
(01:06:07):
in the All Ball podcast. It's been reported by Mark
Spears of ESPN that even before the incident, the Celtics
were investigating when they're not Jabari Parker, it had some
mental health issues. My brother recruited Jabari Parker at Sweet
Jari Parker job by Bird at cal Dad played a
cow and my my brother's like, it's impossible, has to
be a setup, has to be something wrong. Jabari Bird
(01:06:29):
is the nicest kid I've ever recruited, and yet the
it's scary when somebody's brain just stops functioning in the
way in which it was designed to function. So we'll
see what happens with Everson Griffin. Let's welcome in Daniel Jeremiah.
He works for the NFL Network. He also calls Chargers
games on the weekend. That's his weekend job. He joined
(01:06:50):
us in the Doug Gotlip Show on Fox Sports Radio.
You played you analyze for a front office, and now
you work for the NFL network. Uh, what are your
thoughts on the tackle rule, the the the roughing the
past rules. Well, I I understand protecting quarterbacks. Um So
I don't want to sound like I'm I'm for the
(01:07:11):
free for all. Let's go back to the good old days,
you know the way it was. But um I prefer,
you know, having the rule and say, hey we protect
the legs, stay off the legs, stay away from the head.
You've got the strike zone in there, and then nothing malicious.
I mean, you're not gonna be able to dump truck.
Guy's not gonna just scoop them up and then and
then plow them into the ground. But just the regular
tackle and landing on top of them, that's I think
(01:07:33):
it's darning impossible. We've seen it with these penalties dug
on the midsize quarterbacks. To my question is if if
you're worried about trying to land on top of somebody,
you're not gonna be able to get Ben Roethlisberger, Cam
Newton and Josh Allen on the ground unless you use
your weight to try and get them there. There's a
certain level of irony that it's Clay Matthews who has
(01:07:54):
been called for a couple of these things, whereas one
of the guys the rule is designed to protect is
Aaron Drews broke his collar bone last year, right, Like again,
I just I think it's ironic. And then yeah, no, no,
there is. And that's why I think it's, you know, hey,
you gotta you gotta protect them from the egregious stuff.
And and even on that one, even on the Anthony
(01:08:16):
bar one that that injured Rogers, I mean, it's not
like he completely scooped him up, you know, three ft
off the ground. It's just there's gonna be injuries that happened. Um,
So I don't know. It's it's a tricky one for
me because I think there's a balance in there. We
just haven't found it. It's like the porridge, you know
it's too hot, that it was too cold. We're just
trying to find the one right in the middle. And
(01:08:36):
fortunately they did figure it out with the catch. Hopefully
they figure out a way to get it all settled
in here with the tackle. The l a Rams have
been just right, just right, not too hot, not too cold.
You saw him. Uh, they kind of dumb Trump the
Chargers this past weekend. Um, I think they're gonna lose
Thursday because their injuries, right, like you, Marcus Peters out
(01:08:57):
keep to leave out Whitworth out. Vikings looked awful Sunday,
but you know you can't freak out over one week
in the NFL. But when hell, when healthy, when healthy,
he'll go. The Rams they're just so darn efficient. I mean,
I haven't seen now the Chiefs in person and seeing
the Rams in person. The difference to me is, you know,
the Rams is just surgical. I mean a lot of
(01:09:18):
these throws that golf was making yesterday, they were they
were just are on Sunday. They were tight window throws.
They were well designed, but the degree of difficulty was
high and he still was making it happen. Whereas with
with the Chiefs of Homes. You watch the tape, though,
you kind of buckle up. Man. It is like it
is just one explosive play after another. Everything is deep
down the field. The guys are wide open um, and
(01:09:41):
I know that that's not going to sustain as much
as the Rams and what they're doing. I think it's
a little bit more sustainable um with what they're doing
offensively and then defensively. You know, I thought the Chargers
actually did a pretty good job against their defense even
when the starting corners were out there. They moved the ball,
beat Peters for a touchdown, And I thought the offensive
line a decent job until until they had injury at
(01:10:02):
left tackle. Then Sue got a sack. But uh, you know,
it's a pretty complete roster, that's for sure. Yeah. Well,
Andrew Whitworth had like a little minor procedure done. What
are your thoughts, Like, Am I crazy to call my
shot and think the Vike Viking is gonna come beat him? No?
I mean, here's the thing. It comes down to this.
I don't think in seeing the backup corners of closing
(01:10:23):
personal last week, their backup corner should Sam Shields the
moment they're not gonna be able to check Diggs and
feeling that that's not gonna happen now. But the other
side of it is, I don't think Minnesota scary. It's
scary bad Now. It looks like they're gonna get their
center OFLF line back, which will help. But that's gonna
be that's gonna be fascinating to watch. Can they get
(01:10:44):
home before cousins can expose their corners because that's that's
the that's the key matchup right there. Well, I should
be pointing out that Andrew wood with point out to
tweet out that he did not have surgery. You know,
sometimes there's a difference surgery and a procedure or whatever.
John Clayton knew, Uh, we're for seven ten ESPN s
that he had surgery. Regardless of which, um where that
offensive line was super super impressive. All right, from the good,
(01:11:07):
let's go to the bad. Um Is the Patriots fixable? Yeah?
I think it is. I mean, look that we all
say it, right, you know, don't I never doubt them.
I just don't. And when you look at getting Edelman back,
you can't vice. You can't put a vice on Rob
ground Counseky like they were doing in that game, where
you're dedicating two bodies to one dude. You can't do
(01:11:28):
that when Edelman's on the other side. You just can't.
Or Tom Brady will just deal, just deal. Throw ed
him at twenty balls the first time somebody tries to
do that to grown. He has nowhere else to go
with the football right now. Um, so you can't understate
the importance of getting him back in the mix. I
don't know what you're gonna get from Josh Gordon. It's
a wild card. I don't have the highest three of
confidence he's gonna end up being a big time dude
for him. But I do think that Edelman makes a
(01:11:50):
world of difference. And you're gonna see as they get
Sony Michelle more comfortable using him more in the past
game and they always find a way. They always do.
Danna Jeremiah joining us in the Doug Gottlives Show here
on Fox Sports Radio. Somewhere from the back of a motorcycle,
I believe is where he's I'm on my way to
a volleyball game. Bro, I'm on my way to a
little high school volleyball game. Very nice. I want to
(01:12:13):
ask about Ryan Fitzpatrick. I have warned people that the
I feel like I'm the guy in the corner passing
out the pamphlets going the end is dear, the end
is dear, and people are blowing me off, going like, yeah,
heard heard that one before. What would you do if
you're Tampa. Well, you know, I understand both sides of
the argument, but here's the facts. I mean, this is
(01:12:34):
this is what it is. What it is, and that
is you've got a head coach who's coaching for his job,
and you've got a quarterback who we all know and
anticipate is gonna the regression is coming. But while he's
still hot, and even though he had some turnovers, he
still made a bunch of big plays, And I don't
think long term is the play right now. I think
you've got Dirk Cutter who's coaching for his job, and
(01:12:55):
wins are all that matters right now. So I think
they're gonna ride and it might be one game, two games,
it might be a half until they see that old
Fits emerged. I believe that's what's gonna happen. We're gonna
see Fits until he loses a little bit of his
mojo and then that'll be it. What do you do
with Levian Bell if you're the Steelers? Oh man, you know,
(01:13:17):
And maybe it's just a prisoner of the moment and
kind of seeing what's going on over the last week.
But I look at the Dolphins and and they just
kind of they eliminated any distractions they could potentially have
and and got the right the guys. They felt like,
we're they're right guys going forward. Um and uh, and
they're off to a hot start right now. I just
kind of look at the Steeler situation and his Connor
as good as belt. No he's not, but he's not.
(01:13:39):
He's not. He's not a bad player. They're they're okay,
they're they're not special there, and it just seems like
this thing just continues to be kind of a drain
on the entire organization. I think I would explore trade. Yeah,
I think that's right. You know, you want to get
the right thing in return for him. UM help me
out with what Jimmy Garoppolo is doing. It feels like
a quarterback who still new to the team, still trying.
(01:14:02):
It felt like a raw rab moment, felt like a
kind of football guy. I'm gonna show how tough. I am,
I could go out of bounds, but that's soft. I'm
gonna show him not soft, and he and his knee
buckles when he plans. That's what it felt like to me.
Am I crazy to think so well. I could say
I agree with you, and then he's he's not, you know,
trying to show his medal and how tough he is.
(01:14:22):
But I also say, almost every great quarterback shares that
exact same trait. And you can go watch Carson Wentz
in his first game starting coming off that injury. There's
a play where he wheels out the back door on
a third and six and he full on lays out
Pete Rose style for the for the for the first
down going out of bounds, which is probably something that
had the people in Philadelphia a little bit on edge.
(01:14:44):
But the ultra competitive guys they're just they're they're they're
wired like that. So it's it's often in their benefit
and every now and then it's in their detriment. We
saw it in speaking of Wentz, that was his injury
last year. Um, you know, and you saw it with
Garoppolo here trying to do a little bit more than
you need to. Uh. Last thing you mentioned the Chargers here,
we are the same old Chargers, right. I mean, you know,
(01:15:06):
you get a black punt and you got a couple
of fumbles and a game which you know, look, I
don't know if it was winnable, but you can't if
you turn the ball over like that, you can't even derwin. James,
who's a rookie, gets interception, runs out of bound in
the one yard line. That helped with with the black punt.
How do the Chargers, who I think everyone around the
league would say that's a talented, top five, top seven
(01:15:29):
league talent wise team, how do they get away from
me in the same old Chargers. Well, I'll give you
three I'll give you three reasons for optimism here. I'll
be the sunshine pumper when you when you watch that game.
A couple of things especial teams have got to get fixed.
You missed an extra point block punt for a touchdown.
That's eight points right there, and that's fixable. That's something
that you can fix. Um. You look at red zone
(01:15:50):
had had an issue late in the second half. They
had two trips inside the red zone. They end up
having to kick a field goal on one and they
come up a yard short on another one, which is
one of those fumbles that your referenced, but you know
Eler was just trying to get that extra yard, So
you're you're moving the ball up and down the field.
That's encouraging. Now. The third thing, which is the most
important thing, is they've got to find a pass rush
and you're gonna get arguably the best pass rusher, if
(01:16:12):
not the best, one of the three best in the
league back at some point in time to help solve
that problem. So while they're all there are issues, I
think a lot of people would sign up for those
issues because I think they are fixable. Great stuff, Daniel,
enjoy the back of that motorcycle and the volleyball game.
Thanks so much for joining us in the Doug Gotlip Shows,
Daniel Jeremiah. Now it's fantastic time to buy a new

(01:16:54):
He's head coach of Old Dominion. What you say to
them to make them believe that they could accomplish what
they accomplished. It's started last Sunday with what I've presented
to him. I called it the anatomy of an upset,
and we went through some of the great upsets. I
used the example from the United States hockey team in
Night the Miracle when we beat the Soviet Union when
we had no shot, and we talked about how it
(01:17:16):
happens and what I had said and was number one,
we hadn't played very good football. All due respect to
the teams we played, we hadn't played good football at
Old Dominion. Number two. This was an historic game. We
don't have professional sports Doug in Virginia, so Virginia Tech
football is it. And I said, here comes the nationally
ranked team into Old Dominion. We've never been a Power five,
(01:17:37):
we've never beat a ranked team. We haven't beat Virginia Tech.
They beat us thirty eight to nothing last year. So
the number one thing we've got to do is believe
we can do it. Then we talked about Doug. Something
significant has to happen at the start of the game.
That gives us energy and gets our fans into it.
And that happened. We scored early, and then I think
one of the biggest players of the game, Doug. Right
(01:17:57):
before the half, we're down fourteen to seven, and our
freshman corner Geronda Hall, intercepts a pass and we go
eighty yards and score with four seconds to go before
the half. So now it's fourteen fourteen. The places going crazy.
Our kids are are running off the field into the
locker room thinking we can do this. If you missed

(01:18:42):
Doug Gotlieb Show on Fox Sports Trade and we like
to play for you a portion of something we heard
you early on Fox Sports Tradio or on Fox Sports one,
we call it. And now the Fox here's Dan Patrick
Gurler today with the theory about all the roughing the
passer calls. Here's just something. It's not a conspiracy theory,
but it was floated to me. And this is somebody
(01:19:02):
who's involved with the NFL. Is this the officials way,
the NFL referees way of getting back at the NFL.
Maybe you just start calling all the because this is
all about the NFL. This isn't about the officials. The
officials are saying, Hey, this is what we're told to do.
We're just calling it. You know, they want us to
protect the quarterbacks. We're just calling the heats on the NFL.
Right now, nobody's mad at the referees because it feels
(01:19:24):
like this is sent down from from up high that hey,
we got to protect the quarterbacks. And maybe these referees
are saying, all right, you want to protect him, didn't.
We have the moment in the Vikings game against the
Packers where one of the defensive backs in Dajo, says
to Mike Zimmer that the official told him you you
did what you're supposed to do on your tackle in
(01:19:45):
Davante Adams but I have to throw the flag. Isn't
that further evidence that maybe this is the officials saying,
all right, you guys. The whole lockout that you had
with the officials and maybe it's their way of just saying,
all right, we'll do what you want us to do.
How does it feel? It feels more like a hypothesis
than the theory, to be honest with you, hypothesizing that
(01:20:07):
guys are going above and beyond just to make the
NFL look bad when they're also being graded as to
whether or not they're doing the right thing so they
get the right assignment in the future. Remember the only
twenty four full time NFL officials, and I think most
people in the NFL think that allows them to, you know,
cut off the gristle if you will, as the season
(01:20:29):
runs on. I just I do think they're trying to
be overprotective of of the quarterback. I would say that
the that the referees are a little bit lost as
to exactly how to do it because most of them
have been around the sport and some of it is
bordered on ridiculous. And I do think that they'll make
some adjustments and then the football feels different but it's
(01:20:50):
it's really amazing to football guys are amazing to me,
Like their lack of awareness is insane. Right, Remember they
used to have the what was it um not um
when when you when they have the hard hits, what
was that segment called? It was like you just got
(01:21:10):
not knocked out, you just got what was it? They
had a segment on it on Monday Night Football back
when Chris Carter was doing the pregame a halftime for
Monday Night Football, and or they used to do it
on Sunday Primetime and NFL players like, man, we went
from that to this, like, don't you realize that you
settled a lawsuit for you know, just south of a
billion dollars and that other former players are still suing
(01:21:34):
the NFL for brain damage, and yet you have a
problem with the way the helmet rule was changed. Don't
you realize that no one wants to watch backup quarterbacks play.
We don't want to see Brett Hunley play in Green Bay.
That's what we want to protect Aaron Rodgers, but they
don't because they fall back on it. It's not football.
I got it, okay, but guys didn't used to be
(01:21:55):
three pounds and run of four six forty say deels
more like a hypotheses in the greatest conclusions of your
careers of all time? Do you realize today is the
anniversary of Derek Jeter doing this? Meet deals, Bakes, It's
(01:22:17):
a right deal, comes Richardson, here's the troll football Cakes, Richardson.
The sake Derek Teeter, it's his final kid. Who's the
walkoff single? Derek Jeeter? Well, fantasy he comes reality? Did
you know? Daddy tells? I mean, I want you to
think about this, Like, look, Kobe dropped sixty in a
(01:22:39):
meaningless game, but it was sixty. It was incredible. Michael
Jordan's you know, he did come back and play for
the Wizards. So even though I want to believe that
the last time he shot a basketball was to win

What Up Doug god Leave Show, Fox Sports Radio, M
M M. Last year they didn't panic, so I guess
this year there was no need to panic either, right,
Saints getting lit up first game in the season, Cam
Jordan Jonas in moments, we'll talk about fits magic, he
(01:24:08):
saw it firsthand. We'll also talk about what so far.
I would guess. Does anybody have a problem with me
saying that the Saints Falcons this past Sunday was game
of the year to this point, Ramos, can you think
of a better game to this point? Now? The offense
being was was obviously prominently on display, and Matt Ryan
put up some crazy numbers. Although Cam had that big
(01:24:29):
sack in the red zone. Um, but I think that's
game of the year so far in the NFL. Can
you think of a game that was better? It was?
It was a fun game. I can tell you that
music you have one that comes to your mind that said,
that was a better football game Packers Bears just because
of the Rodgers coming back off that he was on
his deathbed and then all of a sudden he was
(01:24:50):
back correct. Uh. Um, alright, Cam Jordan is never I
mean smart guy, never minced his words. He he mocked
the end, fell over their pass or roughing the past rules.
He joins us in the Doug Gottlip Show here on
Fox Board Trader, careful how quick how close you get
to the telephone camp because you could be called for roughing? Um,
(01:25:11):
What's what? What's this like to your job is to
tackle the quarterback? What is it like to try and
do your job the way the NFL has officiated so
far through weeks in the season. I mean, luckily, my
my phone has no ability to throw the throw the ball,
so I feel safe, Um if I have to toss
it around a little bit. Um. But when you talk,
(01:25:32):
just talk about the the calls that there have been
the flagrancy of the calls that have been have been happening.
And now you add in, you know, you add in
things like Clay Matthews being called roughing pastor three times
in three weeks? Um, was it really in two weeks?
Because you've got two calls in one game? Um, and
then the last one where we had a clean shot
(01:25:54):
in the quarterback. I don't know how you're supposed to
hit the quarterback if you're coming downhill the way he was. Um,
I mean he kept his head out of it. I
mean so then then you also bring in the what
is the Willie Hayes accident? Now you know he was
trying to do trying to lay off the quarterback and
ends up hurting himself and he's out for a season. Um. Yeah,
without without missing the words too much, you know, something's
(01:26:16):
gotta change. There's gotta be a clear depiction of what
can happen. The only thing about the Willie Hayes thing
is I know his coach said he was trying to avoid,
but I mean it was just it was just awkward
the way he was coming down to begin with. And
it's just it feels like bad luck. I'm not sitting
here telling you the rule doesn't impair to make your
job really difficult to do. But I do think that
(01:26:38):
we're making it out Like Willie Hayes, was you stop
mid you know, mid fall? Was like, oh my god,
and that's all of a sudden he shut it up
his knee. I mean it was, it was. It's hard
to okay, So I guess here's the question. You've done it.
We haven't. When you're sacking Matt Ryan the other day,
can you consciously think, oh, I can't put my weight
on a guy. Oh, yeah, no doubt. As I'm hitting him,
(01:26:58):
I'm like, please, please, please, don't go to the ground
too hard. Try and catch on what feet? Um, I
popped up faster than you know. I'll almost praying my wrist.
Try to pop up as fast as I did a mixture.
Make sure you don't put your body weight on them.
You know, it's like after you hit them, and it's like,
you know, you're you're doing your best to beat a
tackle who's in front of you that to then rush
(01:27:18):
capable you know, mobile quarterback, and then oh, by the way,
after contact, now you've gotta have your wits about you,
like this is this is how I should land. Um,
you know, try and spread you, try and spread your
body out so you can try and catch his fall. Um.
It's way too much to think about after you had
to work too hard to get there. Um, and and
then and then you've got Marcus Davenport taking your sacks right, like, hey,
(01:27:41):
it's I mean, in addition to the fact they're hard
to get there to begin with, the guys are getting
rid of the ball quicker than ever. And once you
get there, cannon below the knee, above the neck, and
you can't drive them into the ground and land body weight.
And then you got some rookie coming in and stealing
one of your sex. What's going on? I mean when
we talk about, you know, just getting there, I'm me
and the d line laughs. It's like we're at a race. Um,
(01:28:03):
we're at a dead ends race, the rights race of
trying to get their first. Um. And you know, he
did a phenomenal job of pushing Alex macbuy and uh
getting the sack. I mean, I'd like to say I
also got there first, but um, you know that's just
a disclaimer there. When you talked about I was, I
was super excited for him to come join the race.
(01:28:24):
Um and just for him to have a first act
against a divisional opponent, overly excited for him. Um yeah,
I mean, I mean, can we talk about that sack situation.
It can be a lot like Mike daniels sack. You
know he had, uh, he had a court, he had
what who was that the Vikings game? I believe he
had wrapped up the quarterback and then ended up letting
him go because he thought the ball had gone and
(01:28:45):
was trying to avoid roughing and passibility. I mean, these
are the conscientious things that now we have to be
aware of. Um. You know this is not like you know,
the Chris Domans of old or the Reggie Whites or
you know, this is this is the new era, a
day and age where we're protecting the the line. We
get it. Cam Jordan, Cam Jordan to join us in
the Doug Outlers Show on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, So
(01:29:05):
how do you if I put you in charge of
it and you know that they don't want any Rodgers
to break his collar bone. They don't want Tony Romo
to break his college you don't want Drew Brees to
to break his his collar bone, how do you how
do you write the rule from a guy who's actually
performed the task. Yeah, I don't know. At some point,
you know, this is a physical game. You know what
you signed up for. Now, when the ball is clearly
(01:29:27):
thrown and you know, you guys, you have a guy
who who still hits him, you know that's that's clear cut.
But when you have somebody like a middle linebacker on
the blitz doing his job and he, you know, gets
a clean shot of the quarterback, that's something that you
know that's on that's on the opposite line to pick
up that's on the quarterback to assess the situation. That's
a part of the game. Um, that's what makes the
(01:29:47):
game sort of fun. You go ahead and you're able
to hit a quarterback on the blind side. You know,
you know, no longer in the LT rule. You know
you're no longer to hit him down low. Um, unless
you're pushed into him. You can't hit him up high.
So now you've got this gay either where you can
hit him. You hit Cam Newton in the chest and
he's still able to rock at a ball forty five
yards out. You had been Roster's burger in the chest
(01:30:08):
or in the stomach and He's still able to sling
this ball thirty five yards perfectly to you know, juju
or a b um. These are things that you know
have have clearly affected the game. Now, you know, you
got a quarterback who rolls out and you gotta worry
about running full speed and hitting him, and after you
hit him, you have to like disengage and roll out
of out of his way. I don't know, Um, these
(01:30:30):
are things that I'd like to say have to change,
but clearly they're set for a reason, right, I don't
I don't know. I've been trying to figure that out.
Cam Jordan joining us in the Doug Gallup Show on
Fox Sports Radio. What happened to Drew Brees? Now, all
of a sudden, Drew Brees running his own read. You
know he's keeping the ball and then to win the game,
he's going Barry Sanders or Walter Payton and jumping over
(01:30:51):
the pile. Yeah, I mean you saw that right to
wresting touchdowns. I don't know the last time Drew has
had to wresting touchdowns. I keep dubbed him easily the
King of the Air. But now now all sudden we're
here for the ground and pound. Um, to spin off
of a pretty solid you know, it would have been
a pretty solid hit. Uh, you know you can argue
both ways. Um, you know he made he made a
(01:31:13):
hell of a play for the touchdown, and I'll take it.
Um defensively wise, you look back at it, like, you know,
if rules were different, maybe you know, somebody would try
and but we won't go there. I like the way
he's playing. Love it. Yeah, no, no, I mean you
had to think it when he's rolling out is guys,
guys change the way well the way they approach it.
Let me just ask you about your defense. What did
you guys fixed since the Tampa game. Um, you know,
(01:31:37):
we try to eliminate the explosive plays Tampa game. I
think we had two explosive runs that uh Atlanta game.
We we were fixated on on focusing and improving on
our run defense. I think we did just that. Um.
I don't know what their average per carry was, but
it wasn't high. There wasn't any run that really sticks
out other than maybe like a twelve yard game, which
he still wouldn't mind that happened. I mean, um, I
(01:32:00):
think we did a great job of playing on the
back on their side. Of the backfield, and uh really
made it our game. Um, in terms of in the air,
I think you know they clearly have. I was preaching
it all week, like you know, they've got Julio Jones,
we gotta we gotta shut down Julio Jones. Um. Decordinator
made that emphasis. We gotta, you know, keep our eye
on Mohammedan new because he catches anything and everything in
(01:32:21):
his radius. And then like, hey, this Calvin Realley kid
is a flyer. Um. But at the same time, we
were worried about taking away number leven. You take a
number eleven, and we sat down the running game, we're
gonna win this game, and I think we we ended
up doing just that. It was an absolute shoot out
and it was a good one. Now you got the
now you get the New York Giants on the road.
How much you know there's a lot made of your
(01:32:42):
team's ability to play outside of the dome. Uh. Now, look,
it's New York, it's September, so it's not like you're
playing the cold and snow. But how much different is
the get off? How much different is it for you
guys when you're playing outdoors as opposed indoors? Um? I
mean it's still it will still be September, right, It's
(01:33:04):
still gonna be pretty nice over there. I mean, Um
and Drews played in every weather possible. Our defense is
played in every weather possible. The gutten wins and every
weather possible. Um, anytime you play in the NFL team,
I mean, when you're comprised of what is the best
fifty three man you know active on the game day,
you know what you're gonna be going up again. So
(01:33:24):
at some point, uh, you gotta come with the right mentality.
You get this win. That's all that really matters. Well,
Cam listening, congrats on the wind. We appreciate your honest
thoughts on the officiating, which you're a guy who actually knows,
actually performs, and actually has the ability to convey all
the different stuff going on in your mind both watching
it and playing it. Thanks so much for being our
(01:33:45):
guest on Fox Sports Radio. Oh much appreciated. Thanks for
having me. All right, it's Cam Jordan's super talented defensive
end for the two in one New Orleans Saints. That's
the most competitive Vision football. It's not really close. I mean,
you know, look, Atlanta loses the game there one and
two on the year. But they're losing overtime to New
Orleans when Matt Ryan's five touchdowns no interceptions, and they
(01:34:09):
lose at the very last second to Philadelphia. Granted Nick
Foles was the quarterback and all Sean didn't play, but
still that's those are their two losses on the year.
Tampa loses last night there two and one, but they've
beaten New Orleans obviously on the road, Carolina two and
one and New Orleans two and one, and for losing
the Tampa first game of the season, it's a big
stretch here for the for the St. Saints. I don't
(01:34:31):
know if people have watched. They have Falcons that was
a win, Giants on the road, Redskins at home. Then
they go to Baltimore take on the Ravens after their
bye week, and then they played the Minnesota Vikings. Uh
that one is a Sunday night game, I believe. So
four of five on the road after starting the first
two games at home, they finish up at home as well. Alright,
(01:34:55):

on Fox Sports Radio. Do do done done, Dune done,
(01:35:39):
dune dune dune june. What do you do with the
discriunpo employee, especially when you you own their rights. That's
really that's the case for the Pittsburgh Steelers here. You know,
the Steelers, you get a win last night, and there
were a lot of things that went in their favor
in spite of the fact um in spite of the
fact that here the Pittsburgh Steelers missed the miss the
(01:36:03):
field goal missed, an extra point left points on the field.
Now should be point out Tampa kick to field go
at the three. He could well have gone for it,
but uh, Pittsburgh now moves the record to one. One
and one gets out of the gets out of the
spot alone. In the basement. And I don't think anyone's
sitting there saying, hey, James Conner is he's a superstar,
(01:36:27):
He's a levy On Bell. He's an incredible story and
he's had a couple of good games, but no one's
put him in that conversation. But the question becomes, is
it one the distraction to he's not gonna be around
next year? And three he can't get into practice and
he can just show up and sign that paperwork and well,
now you now you're locked into that franchise tag deal.
(01:36:48):
What do you do with Levyan Bell? It's a really
good question. Ma heck, what do you do of your
seattle with Earl Thomas? He don't want to be there,
he's posting about it, but he's still playing even though
he's not practice, he's still playing in at level James Conner,
let's not go crazy now. I mean five catches thirty
four yards, fifteen carries sixty one yards, and um, I think, look,
(01:37:13):
you could look at the you can look at the
carries and go, there's only only ran the ball twenty
two times, only played fifty They only had fifty two
offensive plays. So normally when you have a thirty to
ten lead at the half, you have a chance to
really kind of grind, grind the game. But what do
you do with Levy on Bell? James Connor is a
(01:37:33):
good running back. He's fine. No one I think considers
him Levian Bell. But if Levian doesn't want to show up,
what do you do? Gary Dulock covers the Steelers for
the Pittsburgh Post Casette. You can also hear him on
steel Steeler Radio Network. Follow him on Twitter at Jerry
that's g e r R Y Dulock is d u
(01:37:54):
l A c um Jerry. Let me let me just
ask you, um, what are your what's a reaction to
last night's game in Tampa? Well, good afternoon, I I
you know, it's it's kind of two reactions. Is just
kind of like the game, which is, uh, what they
did in the first half. You know, when they finally
take the ball away. Four takeaways in the first half,
(01:38:16):
double what they had in the first two games. You
know they're inability to do that. Even last year they
didn't do it a lot, um, but they're inability to
do that. Hurts when you're turning the ball over as
much as they had. But to finally get ahead in
the turnover battle and then capitalize it on on you know,
(01:38:37):
with their offense and the way Ben Roethlisberg has been playing. Um,
you know, I didn't expect thirty to ten, but that's
what obviously, that's what can happen. And then you know,
not surprisingly, I mean, Brian Fitzpatrick's been hot. He has
weapons to throw too. We've seen that before, you know,
in the first two weeks, and they have to throw
throw throw to catch up. Um, you know, you start,
(01:38:58):
you start frittering away that lead. After you blow a
fourteen point leading Cleveland two weeks earlier for that tie,
you know, a fourteen point leading the fourth quarter, and
now you're watching a twenty point lead for it or away.
You know, you sit there and think, you know, as
a defense, going to do that again. So obviously that
part of it was was disappointing. I don't think anybody
(01:39:18):
was in the locker room high five of each other.
But they were satisfied with that first half and disappointed
obviously that they did finish it off maybe a little
bit more soundly. Jerry, do you like joining us he
covers the Steelers for the Pittsburgh Post, Because that you
can hear on Steelers Radio Network, following on Twitter at
Jerry do you like? Uh, okay, let's let's get to
lavy on Um. There's been talk that there's not a
(01:39:39):
ton of interest, But you don't have to find a
bunch of training partners. You only need one, right, somebody
like the Jets that has a ton of cap room.
You could sign them up for long term future. It's
the middle. We're starting to get to the middle of
the season, and the Steelers do have an immense amount
of town. He makes them better and they would have
him for the rest of the year. But he's got
to want to show up. Where are they in the
process of trying to figure out what to do with
(01:40:00):
Lean Bell? Well, you know, first off, Doug, I think
you know, you know we we have to understand the
same with the same with general managers, and same with
the Steelers. This isn't mid season Levian Bell that's going
to be showing up. This is Levian Bell who's missed
two training camps in a row and now has missed
three weeks of the season. And based on the pictures
(01:40:22):
that we have seen him jet skiing and in the nightclubs,
looks like a guy who's put on about fifteen or
twenty pounds. Um, I don't think he's doing his image. Uh,
you know it's not. He's not helping his image by
pictures of him on social media goofing off while his
teammates are are grinding and working and trying to win
(01:40:43):
football games. So from that perspective, that has hurt him
as well. The Steelers are looking at this. They're not
sitting there waiting for Levian Bell. They're almost treating this
dog like he's on injured reserve and he's not going
to be here. And then if later in the year,
if he shows up and they're struggling and they have
injuries and he looks like he might be able to
to help, then maybe maybe maybe you see him play
(01:41:07):
for the Steelers and get into games. But don't forget,
they're gonna be paying this guy on nearly one million
dollars eight hundred fifty three thousand per week. Uh, if
he shows and that's a lot of money to invest
in a guy, pay a guy who you don't know
if he can if he can even help you based
on what you're seeing, based on what you're hearing. So um,
(01:41:27):
but I'm with you on this. In this regard, I
think a lot of people around the league general managers
have to be turned off by what they're seeing. But
as you known, as you said, it only takes one. Yeah,
it does only it does only take one. One of
the Antonio Brown mess from last week. How much of
that is just normal diva wide receiver? How much of
it is Hey, this is a little bit different. Now
(01:41:49):
he's got all that money in this pocket. Um and
and he's upsetting the bails on practice. Yeah, no, douget
um um. You know, he bailed on a meeting and look,
he didn't show up for work, whether it was practiced
or or you know, a day after a game. Um
and and and not that this makes it okay because
it doesn't. Um, But that's you know that this is
(01:42:10):
Antonio Brown. His apology was I don't I'm hesitant to
call it disingenuous, but it was somewhat contentious. And when
I somebody asked me my reaction to his apology, I go,
nothing's changed. It's the same Antonio Brown. He's you know,
things are going to come up. He's gonna do what
he wants. Not that he's had a habit of skipping
work because he hasn't. Um, and I do believe that
(01:42:33):
will be an isolated incident. But to think that uh,
Antonio Brown is now going to be uh, you know,
a model citizen, uh you know on the field or
maybe in the locker room. Um, I don't think anything
is going to change from his diva status. That being said, Doug,
I I will point up, UM, the guys like Antonio
(01:42:53):
Brown is not a cancer in the locker room or
anything like that. Is he is? Is? Can he be
annoying his sect? Absolutely? Is he disruptive to the team, No, Um,
But I think they've just come to learn to somewhat
expected from him and and and roll their eyes at
his behavior. I'm talking about his teammates. Um. But you know,
(01:43:14):
I don't. I don't know that you see anything really
changed with Antonio Brown. A couple of huge games. You
got the Ravens o arch rival coming in on Sunday night.
Then then you got the Falcons game, uh shortly thereafter.
Who I know, the Falcons have two losses, but you know,
one to the Eagles and then a shootout with the
Saints at home and in overtime where they never touched
the football. Then they got to go back to Since then,
(01:43:35):
I take on the Bengals, who appear to be probably
along with the Ravens, like their number one challengers in division.
So they gotta get themselves right. What's the feelings like
with Mike Tomlin Thomas never had a losing season, um,
and the players generally like him. He seems to be good,
at least with the national media. I don't know about
local media nearly as much, but there's been a lot
(01:43:56):
of whispers that hey, maybe two player friends, Hey, maybe
made too much on the side of the players. And
you see the thirteen penalties last night. Some of that
is a lack of discipline. What's what's the from from
the city of Pittsburgh's perspective? How do you stand on
Mike Tomlin? Well, I think his reputation locally is um,
(01:44:18):
you know, a whole lot worse than it is nationally. Um.
And and and you know that doesn't mean that um,
you know he's on any type of hot seat, or
that he's a bad coach. There's no question he is
a good football coach. You know the Antonio Brown situation.
I think I will tell you there are a couple
(01:44:39):
of players on that team who probably not probably who
who thought that Antonio Brown should be suspended. I mean
they need to take a harsher stance with him. Mike
Tomlin does, and just doesn't. My opinion too dog is
Antonio is Because we're talking about Antonio Brown. Some of
his missteps, while not egregious, are our our public nuisanceance
(01:45:02):
and public matters on social media or whatever. And I
think Mike Tomlin needs to take a puffer a tougher
public stance to let people know here that he's not
going to tolerate it. So anything that Antonio Brown does,
they say they handle it internally, well, I think I
think from from the people here, and I'm talking more
(01:45:23):
among you know about the fans and the populace, they
would like to see a very public rebuke from Mike
Tomlin to to let them know that he means business.
And I think that's where a lot of the perception
it's that you know, he's too buddy buddy with the players,
uh comes from um, but you know he's uh, he's
(01:45:45):
weathered some tough starts before. They were owing for a
number of years ago and they finished eight and eight
and um, you know they have they have a Super
Bowl roster on that team, with or without Levian Bell,
you know, out and inform in shape. Lebon Bell helps
the team even more. But even without Levon Bell, I
(01:46:07):
think whatever they think they can do or they want
to do, I think it doesn't change it a whole lot,
so long as they don't have like a ton of
injuries are running back. Jerry do that great stuff. Jerry

Tampa Bay Bucketeers who lost those Steelers last night are
(01:46:51):
now getting ready for a week four showed out with
the Chicago Bears. But Bears are going to have to
figure out what quarterback to plan for. That's because Buccaneers
that go to Dirk Cutter said today, they have made
up their mind who's going to start Week four. Jameis
Winston knows, so does Ryan Fitzpatrick, but apparently no one
else because they're not gonna tip their hand and allow
the Bears to get that information. So we'll just have
(01:47:13):
to wait and see if word leaks or if we'll
just find out Sunday morning who's gonna start for the Buccaneers.
But Dirk Cutter saying that decision has at least been made.
Quarterbacks obviously in the headlines for a lot of reasons,
one of which how they're being protected in the roughing
the passer cause that we've seen through the first three
weeks of the NFL season. Well, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones,
that is weekly radio hit in Dallas and one h
(01:47:35):
five point three the fan, well address the quarterbacks in
this manner. But when it comes to pro football, to
use a boxing term, that's when you put the six

or you don't fight with those head gears. Everybody's being
really paid to go out and incur those type situations
(01:47:56):
that have more risk at them. That was the Cowboys
owner earlier to day. Titans signed quarterback. I wish somebody
would ask him on his radio show. Hey, Jerry, I
give me telling Romo back. Would you like these rules?
Jerry Yeah, very good point, very good point. Forty Niners
(01:48:17):
working out Tom Savage, Kellen Clemens, and Matt Sims. Titans
going to sign quarterback Austin David Spills swing a deal.
They tried to tackle Marshall Newhouse to the Carolina Panthers,
who are dinged up on the offensive line. Sincinnati Enquirers
is former Red sex S gepper John Farrell gonna interview
for the Reds manager real vacancy Reds Man. Yeah, John
Farrell's manager the Blue Jays and the Red Sox. I
(01:48:40):
wish you would do it like a tour of duty
in the American League East, right, Like he like this
se me to the Orioles and I'm just gonna want
to work my way or he'd have worked my way around.
He'd have like a wall hanging that would show his
collection of teams that he's managed and he's got pins, Yeah,
trying to pee on the map, pins on pins on
the map. Um, can we do that? Let's do the
baseball update, shall we? Right? So, the Rockies are a
(01:49:03):
half game out of the NL wild Card, and the
Rockies they get the benefit of of not playing playing
what the Philadelphia Phillies who are out of it, whereas
the Cardinals are taken on the Brewers, um, who of
course are trying to eliminate them. The Brewers. Brewers are
trying to eliminate them from contention, not just in the
(01:49:24):
in the wild carpet, also in the NNL Central So, um,
it looks like the Rocky thing is gonna come down,
come very much down to the wire. Do the Dodgers?
Are we willing to call the NLS yet? Can we
call the NLS yet? Or not yet? Even they swept
the Colorado Rockies? Nope, I wouldn't call it. Yeah. Here's
the thing, though, John is and how many I don't know?
(01:49:46):
Even though what the magic number is? I hate magic
number things, right, It's like that. I just feel like,
now magic numbers that the actual games they need to win,
or is that the games that need to win in
order and somebody else needs to lose the combined it
sounds like that. Just tell me how many games I
need to win? Like all of them? Like? Okay? So
the Rockies are are one game back in the lost column,
(01:50:09):
two games back in the win column. Which one is
bigger to you? Lost column is bigger to me? Then
the wind column is? Is that? Buyers? That? How you
look at it? Rama's you good with that? Okay? So look,
the Brewers are three games clear of the Cardinals in
in the wild card. They appear pretty set, but they're
(01:50:30):
also going after the NL Central crown. They're only a
game and a half out from the Chicago Cubs. The
Brewers are still very much going for it. Um all
leads us to what's most likely happened is Braves, of course,
clinched a long time ago. They've won five in a row.
Cubs are going to make the playoffs. The question is
do they make it as a division winner or do
(01:50:52):
they make it as a wild card. They are very
much two games clear in the lost column, puts them
in really really good shape, but they do finish up
with the St. Louis Cardinals, who desperately need to win
games as opposed to the Rockies are sitting there a
game and a half out from the Dodgers after the
Dodgers swept them. Dodgers have one I think seven or
(01:51:13):
last eight. But here's where the Rockies kind of have
a benefit is they got the Phillies. After they beat
the Phillies last night, they swept the Dimebacks, essentially eliminating
the Diamonbacks. I don't know. I mean, look, I don't
think the Rockies make it, but I think it's gonna
be close, and it's gonna be late, right because they
got the Nationals upcoming next m really, really, I guess,
(01:51:38):
I guess interesting and American League. We know it's the Yankees.
They're going to host the a's most likely that's not
yet decided, but feels almost all decided. And then of
course we know who's in the playoffs there. You know,
I've usually usually we reserved Tuesdays for college football. We
actually talked a good amount of college football yesterday. Old
(01:52:00):
Dominion's head coach joined us, so too did Texas Texts
head coach Cliff Kingsbury. They pulled off collectively the two
biggest upsets of the weekend and this weekend. Um, you
got huge games. Notre Dame Stanford is big. I think
the biggest one is Ohio State taken on Penn State.
(01:52:21):
This was when two years ago, is when Penn State
kind of finally broke through and got a huge come
from behind victory against Ohio State. What's what's interesting to
me though, And I've tweeted this out the last two weeks,
and I think I'm gonna tweet it out every weekend
until it comes to fruition. I don't know if you
noticed this, Uh any of you guys on Twitter? Is Alabama, Georgia,
(01:52:46):
Ohio State and someone we're all going to argue about.
That's what it appears to me. Like. It doesn't mean
that Alabama goes undefeated, but it appears that we're headed
that way. Ohio State could very much to lose the game.
And I may look like an idiot, but Ohio State
with Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State, and Alabama and Georgia all
(01:53:08):
collect all having not only quarterbacks but some form of
experienced quarterback. Granted TOA didn't play until the National Championship Game,
but he does have the National Championship Game experience, did
win it, and was competing for the job, and now
he has games under his belt. He's not a true freshman.
Dwayne Haskins, of course, not a true freshman there from
(01:53:30):
played in the National Championship Game last year all the
way into overtime. So I I do I feel like
those teams are and Clemson has they have more talent
than everybody else and now the only thing that would
go against them in the past. You know, in the past,
you could have a Vince Young at Texas, although that
Texas team was loaded. You could have a one quarterback,
(01:53:50):
a Johnny Manzel carry a team in college football. The
problem is that those quarterbacks are now at three or
four of the powerhouses, and so it it almost feels
like a formality that they'll be there. What's interesting is
when you had Danny Cannell on recently, I think within
the last week, and you you made a joke with
him about his SEC bias or his his his hatred
(01:54:14):
for the SEC and his point, at least towards Alabama
was they get the benefit of the doubt under your scenario,
like Ohio State wouldn't get the benefit of the doubt
that an Alabama. That's where that's where Danny's wrong. Though, right,
I mean they got to benefit of doubt a couple
of years ago when they had a loss and TCU
was ranked ahead of them, and then they beat Wisconsin.
(01:54:36):
But in your scenario of having Alabama and Georgia both in,
one of those teams is going to get the benefit
of the doubt because they lost, because there's no way
that I mean if they if they went out, they're
gonna face each other in the SEC title game and
then you're looking at in the Alabama and Georgia. But
Ohio State would have to run the table. Maybe the
(01:54:58):
same thing with Clemson. Probably the same thing with Clemson
in the A c C because of how week it is.
But well, bus they already lost, right the who Clemson? Clemson?
When they beat they beat A and M. What am
I talking about? The beat A and M? Uh they
beat an dam when A and M didn't fail that
two point conversion um. But you know it's the it's
the question of is like you look at Ohio State,
(01:55:19):
who has been really good, and have that good win
against tc By the way, that lost the TCU out
of Texas. You could have seen it a mile away
because tc you put everything in that Ohio State game,
and yeah, and then their their tanks seemed to be
empty least. But I would also point out that that's
part of that's part of um what SEC East teams
(01:55:40):
have said for a long time what I think Big
ten West teams uh say as opposed to Big ten
East teams, which is, do you know how hard is
to play Ohio State and then play Texas and then
tc play somebody pretty good? I think this week as well,
like TCU, Allison is like unranked. They go from they
(01:56:00):
had a lead on Ohio State in the third quarter
to hey, we're not going to rank them. Um, but
you know, it's it's really interesting to me. They play
they play Iowa State, but then they started the the
idea of playing on back to back to back weeks
playing top level competition. TCU for example, Okay, here's there.
They played at SMU, which I know SMU is not good,
(01:56:22):
but that's a rivalry game, the Methodist versus the Christians
s m US in Dallas, TCUs in Fort Worth. TCU
got in the Big twelve. SMU did not. Okay, Then
they played Ohio State, then they play in in Dallas,
then they played Texas on the road, Iowa stayed at home.
Then they got Texas Tech at and at Oklahoma. Right,
(01:56:43):
those are like those type of back to back to
back that's hard. That's what you don't get in the
Big ten East. You don't get in some parts of
the A C C. WE your schedule, some parts of
the Pack twelve with the schedule. So yeah, I I
do give some of them a pass because of reputation. Um,
but I also do it because if you watch enough football,
you generally like by if I'm gonna ask you the
(01:57:04):
top five ranked teams in the country, you're gonna put
those four. We already listened then l s U, aren't you?
Um yeah yeah, and Oklahoma would be in the conversation,
but yeah probably And like like Oklahoma, here's how big
that went to just beat Army was. You lose that
game and I think that's unrecoverable. Now you get Baylor,
(01:57:25):
which is kind of like a respite, Texas in Dallas
and at TCU. They finish up the year at West Virginia,
who they might have to play twice. The You know,
the tricky thing with with with what the Big Tennis
to deal with is one loss in the SEC doesn't
kill you because you can bounce back with an SEC
title game like that will help you in the Big
(01:57:47):
Ten because the powerhouses are all in the East, at
least of the Big three Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State.
If you lose, you're not going to win your division
and you may not get into that you know, title game,
you know what I mean? Like at least if Alabama
would lose a game, they could come back and win
the SEC because they end up playing a pretty good
(01:58:07):
Georgia team, you would think. And in the Big Ten
the way that it's playing out this year, and I
know Alabama lost Auburn last year and still made the playoff,
but this year with Penn State and Michigan or maybe
not Michigan but in Ohio State. Yeah, like just getting
to that game is the one loss puts you more
behind the eight ball than maybe about what about the
what about the Big twelve where you have to beat
(01:58:28):
everybody and they had beat a team again? Hey yeah, well,
at least you get that opportunity. His game is getting
his job back, you'll find out next. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Doug Got Leap Show week
days at noon Eastern three PM Pacific Previously on The
Doug god Leap Show. Let's welcome in Cliff Kingsbury. You're
(01:58:51):
watching Pat and I know you've you've told us, you've
told the world about his talent. But what do you
see that they're doing for Pat that's allowing his immense
Gil said to be on this plan, I mean to
it's one thing to be three and oh it's nothing
to throw a thirteen touchdown pass. He ain't throw a
pick yet. First off, I remember saying he could throw
an eighty five yards and you kind of laugh it off.
But you saw the preseason throw right were like falling
(01:59:13):
down and through at seventy Okay, so we cleared that up.
He is, you know, a coach read the phenomenal offensive
mind quarterback guru, and you can tell he's doing things
that Pat does well. He's playing to his personnel, spreading
people out, letting him, you know, get through his reads
and if it's not there, to move around and make plays.
And so it's kind of the perfect storm right now. Defenses,
(01:59:34):
as you know, make adjustments. People are gonna try to
catch up to him, and so I'll be interested to
see the chess match going on. But He looks very company,
looks very comfortable out there, and having that type of
weapons around you, you know, definitely helped. If you missed

once again, here's Doug god Leaves. Online shopping can be confusing,

well not anymore. With True Price from True Car, now
you can know the exact price you'll pay for your

car buying experience. How much would you have to get
paid to spend thirty hours in a coffin? We'll get
to that after we get to the press. The press,
(02:00:22):
Dan Bayer, what he got my friend, well, Doug. Buccaneers
head coach Dirk Cutter, he touched a little bit on
this in the update, but has made up his mind.
Who's going to start a quarterback against the Bears? Says
that Jamis Winston knows, says that Ryan Fitzpatrick knows that.
Just want to keep the Bears guessing, so they are.
I'm not gonna tell you that's no, it's not cool.
(02:00:44):
It's not Charles Barkley. That is not cool. You should
tell us. But who do you think it is, Ryan Fitzpatrick,
I think it is too. It's a mistake, but I
think it is too. I think that if the decision
was made now, like you, at least have to see
how Jamis Winston's performed for a day instead of you know.
If so they already know, then the decisions already made. Um.
(02:01:06):
I don't know if Jamis Winston does, but we'll find
out on Sunday. Vikings defensive end Everson Griffin's not gonna
play against the Rams on Thursday. Touched on this earlier.
Dealing with mental health issues, it was revealed the Vikings
just last week ordered Griffin to stay away from the
team until the underwent a mental healthy valuation. I do
want to correct something I said earlier. If you'd listened earlier,
and I mentioned that Griffin tried to go over to
(02:01:26):
the home of Trey Waynes and break in. That was
an erroneous report. Waynes actually released a statement saying that
that never occurred, that his family and him were home
at the time, that they were safe and everything was good,
except though Griffin shown erratic behavior as his wife had
to call police twice on Saturday. But he's not gonna
play for the Vikings. Really really scary, really sad. I mean,
I guess the good news is that he seems to
(02:01:48):
be getting help. I'd good news. Yes, The Alliance of
American Football revealed the nicknames of the final four teams
to their eight team league. Remember they were somewhere revealed
last week. The Memphis Express in the Birmingham Iron. Well, welcome,
Arizona hot Shots, the Salt Lake Stallions, the San Antonio Commanders,
(02:02:10):
and the San Diego Fleets round out the four other teams.
Do you like those nicknames? No? I like the hot Shots,
I like Go Go Again. Okay, Sandy of Fleet, No,
I know it's because they got the naval There was
hot Shots for those who fight fires. The Salt Lake
Stallions and the San Antonio Commanders. Yeah, those are awful. Yeah,
(02:02:37):
they're all awful. Don't worry. Those teams won't be around
long anyway. Hey, how about an m v P award
for Bryce Harper. Let's give him around of applause. I
don't know if it was deserved, but the Washington Nationals
named them their offensive m v P. Here. Maybe that's
a sad sign of the Washington Nationals. He is on
base a bunch of leads of league in walks, but
he's hitting below two fifty year I wondered if it
(02:02:59):
was more of like a sticker, you know, maybe maybe
this will warm your heart to stick around that Tom
Brady can't get paid you the week. But but Bryce
Harvard gets the m v p uh no practice this
afternoon for Alonzo ball, but expected to practice tonight coming
back from that arthroscopic knee surgery for did you see
Genrondo his name starting point guard of the Lakers? All right,
(02:03:21):
that that that's gonna end well. And uh, finally the
big news, Bill Cosby sentenced the three to ten years
in jail after he was found guilty of sexual assault. Today.
Cosby was immediately taken to a Pennsylvania jail. He'll be
where he will spend the next three years. Should say
he was taken into custody. They're gonna have to find
out what prison they're gonna take him to, but yeah,
(02:03:43):
for the next three years, that's where he'll be before
becoming eligible for supervised release. I mean it, I mean
the most stunning turn around. You know, he was like
America's father on The Cosby Show, and now he's going
to spend uh three years and he was his health
not well in jail. This is um a more unlikely
(02:04:04):
turnaround than the sports analogy would be then Tiger coming
back to province in golf right and get out there
and pressed that the press six Flags is offering to
pay people three hundred dollars if they'll spend thirty hours
in a cough in the thirty hour coughing Challenge, you
get a six minute break bathroom break each hour. Would
(02:04:25):
you do it? Ramos Nope, music, no buyer. Yeah, I
think I could, Yeah, some chip, some some snacks and
can I get an iPad? And if my kids had
an iPad, they could stay in there for days and
just wet themselves. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio.
